Why Makebi Zulu Emerges as the True Winner

THE REAL SIGNAL BENEATH THE NOISE

Why Makebi Zulu Emerges as the True Winner

By Brian Matambo | Sandton, South Africa

Dear Reader,

You will agree with me that Ambassador Emmanuel Mwamba held many of us Zambians, both at home and abroad, in suspense as he carried out these polls. There was drama, of course. That is inevitable considering that politics is involved. Nevertheless, there was also a fair level of transparency that made the exercise worth observing closely.

https://web.facebook.com/share/p/1CiF7KTLrQ/

Let me say, I understand media at a very deep level. And what we saw across the three polls is something every presidential candidate in Zambia should pay careful attention to. There are lessons in it. I will leave it there.

Back to the matter at hand. In politics, numbers matter. The rest is mere noise. And the polls on EMV presented the opportunity to cut through the noise to the numbers that matter.

You see, President Hakainde Hichilema emerged the winner on the Facebook Poll, getting 51.27%. But this is the poll with the lowest-integrity instrument among the three.

A Facebook reaction poll requires almost no effort. Anyone scrolling past can click. Multiple accounts can click. Organised digital teams can click. Even automated systems can click. The barrier to participation is essentially zero.

It is therefore not surprising that President Hichilema recorded 51.27% in that poll. An incumbent naturally enjoys enormous name recognition and a wide digital footprint. When participation requires no effort, visibility alone can dominate the results. Needless to say, HH has been in politics for over 20 years, and he has been republican President for the last 4 and a half years. He has over 2 million followers on Facebook.

Elections are not decided by casual reactions on a timeline. They are decided by people who are willing to act.

The moment we shift our attention to the two polls that required deliberate action, the picture changes sharply.

In the Call-In Poll, voters had to pick up a phone and dial in. That simple requirement filters out the casual observer and leaves only those motivated enough to take a step. In that poll, Harry Kalaba led with 44.2%, while Makebi Zulu followed closely with 40.1%, just four percentage points behind.

Then came the Comment Poll, where each vote required a written comment tied to a real Facebook account. This format significantly raises the cost of manipulation and requires a conscious decision by the voter.

Here, the outcome was decisive. Makebi Zulu won the poll outright with 43.5%, nearly double the 24.4% recorded by Harry Kalaba.

Meanwhile, the incumbent’s support dropped dramatically once participation required effort. President Hichilema registered 4.4% in the call-in poll and 11.3% in the comment poll.

The pattern is unmistakable. Where effort is zero, President Hichilema leads. Where effort is required, his support collapses.

Makebi Zulu shows the opposite trend. His support strengthens as the voting mechanism demands more commitment from the voter. And that distinction matters.

A political base that merely reacts is not the same as a political base that mobilises. One reflects visibility. The other reflects conviction. If the polls are examined not merely by volume but by voter integrity, the conclusion becomes clear.

The Facebook reaction poll measures reach. The call-in and comment polls measure commitment. Measured by that standard, the signal beneath the noise becomes unmistakable.

You also want to observe that Makebi Zulu stepped back into active politics barely 3 and a half months ago. He his facebook page has merely got over 109,000 followers. And it was started on 23 October, 2025. Makebi Zulu was basically having a Gideon moment in those polls.

And that is the reason Makebi Zulu emerges as the real winner.

John Sangwa’s MNR Project and the Challenge of Breaking into Zambia’s Populist Politics

🇿🇲 EXPLAINER | Sangwa’s MNR Project and the Challenge of Breaking into Zambia’s Populist Politics

The Movement for National Renewal (MNR), led by prominent lawyer John Sangwa, has formally begun its transition from a civic platform into a political party ahead of Zambia’s August 13 general elections. Sangwa says the move follows the completion of a mobilisation phase in which the movement sought to gather one million citizen endorsements before entering partisan politics.

Speaking hours ago, he said the transition marks the shift from civic advocacy to what he calls a “constitutional political undertaking,” a project meant to translate legal philosophy and governance reform into electoral politics.

At the centre of Sangwa’s message is a vision anchored in institutional restoration rather than simple political replacement. He argues that Zambia’s political culture has drifted toward patronage, privilege and transactional leadership, and that the task ahead is to rebuild governance around discipline, competence and constitutional respect. Sangwa insists the country’s failures stem less from flaws in the constitution and more from a persistent disregard for its principles.

His argument is essentially institutionalist: the rules are adequate, but the political class has not honoured them.

To operationalise that philosophy, Sangwa outlined four “standards of governance” he says would guide the movement. These include protecting the independence of the judiciary and constitutional oversight institutions, enforcing fiscal discipline and debt transparency, treating public office as a constitutional trust rather than a reward system, and creating space for generational renewal by bringing capable young leaders into public administration.

The movement has also proposed a citizen-funded political model, capping individual contributions at 20,000 Kwacha per month to prevent donor dominance and encourage broader public participation.

But the Sangwa project faces structural realities that have humbled many reformist political movements before it. Sangwa is widely regarded as an elite constitutional lawyer, respected in legal and policy circles but operating in a political environment driven less by institutional arguments and more by populist narratives, cadre mobilisation, propaganda machinery and entrenched regional voting blocs.

Zambian politics rarely rewards intellectual purity alone. It rewards ground structures, slogans that travel easily through townships, and the ability to mobilise loyal political networks across provinces.

This reality places the MNR at a strategic disadvantage in the early stages of its political life. Unlike major parties, it currently lacks a defined regional stronghold or traditional base. The ruling UPND maintains deep red zones across Southern, Western and North-Western provinces while retaining influence in large parts of Central Province. The opposition Patriotic Front still commands loyalty in several of its former strongholds and remains competitive in urban Copperbelt and Lusaka politics.

By contrast, the MNR is attempting to carve out space largely within cosmopolitan voting blocs and contested political terrain where larger parties already possess organisation, money and established voter loyalty.

Simply put, Sangwa’s transition from courtroom influence to ballot box politics will test whether a reformist, institution-focused campaign can gain traction in a system historically shaped by populist mobilisation and regional arithmetic.

The coming months will reveal whether the Movement for National Renewal can transform elite credibility into mass political currency or whether Zambia’s electoral battlefield will once again favour parties with deeper grassroots machinery.

ECZ WARNS AGAINST CAMPAIGNING IN NON-EXISTENT CONSTITUENCIES

ECZ WARNS AGAINST CAMPAIGNING IN NON-EXISTENT CONSTITUENCIES

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has warned that it is illegal for any person to campaign in non-existent constituencies, as the delimitation exercise has not yet been concluded.

ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis said the Commission is aware that some individuals have begun conducting campaigns in areas they assume will be delimited, stressing that such actions are unlawful.

She emphasized that the campaign period has not officially opened, and any individual or political party engaging in premature campaigns risks facing legal action.

Ms. Zaloumis made the remarks during the opening of the Lusaka Province delimitation sittings, where she also dismissed social media reports claiming that all provinces have already been delimitated.

Meanwhile, Lusaka District Electoral Officer Liftery Ndaba assured that all submissions made during the sittings will receive equal attention.

I AM STILL NCP PRESIDENT – PETER CHANDA

I AM STILL NCP PRESIDENT – PETER CHANDA

Embattled National Congress Party -NCP President Pastor Peter Chanda has rubbished his expulsion from the party by the National Executive Committee -NEC.

Pastor Chanda says he remains the legitimate President of NCP according to the official records held by the Registrar of Societies.

This morning, NCP Vice President Daniel Nyati announced that Pastor Chanda has been expelled from the party for gross misconduct and that the NEC has appointed him to act as president for administrative purposes until a substantive president is elected in line with the party constitution.

But in a statement to KBN TV news, Pastor Chanda said the purported move by Mr. Nyati to expel him from the party is therefore illegal, null, and void.

“Mr. Nyati should be reminded that he is not the Vice President for Administration of the New Congress Party and therefore has no authority to make such a decision on behalf of the party,” Pastor Chanda said.

He has challenged Mr. Nyati to also show the nation whether he possesses any legitimate letter confirming his appointment as Vice President for Administration.

Pastor Chanda states that to date, no such appointment has been recognized within the official party structures.

Pastor Chanda has further revealed that the so called Sam Habeenzu, whom Mr. Nyati unveiled as NCP Vice Presiden this morning, is in fact a known and active member of the UPND who is aspiring to contest the Chilanga seat on the ruling party ticket.

“I therefore wish to assure the Zambian people that the NCP remains intact and stable under the leadership recognized by the Registrar of Societies,” Pastor Chanda added. “Any statements or actions by Mr. Nyati should be treated as those of an individual acting outside the authority and structures of the party.”

MNR BEGINS TRANSITION INTO POLITICAL PARTY AHEAD OF 2026 ELECTIONS

MNR BEGINS TRANSITION INTO POLITICAL PARTY AHEAD OF 2026 ELECTIONS

The Movement for National Renewal (MNR), founded by prominent lawyer John Sangwa, has formally begun its transition from a civic movement into a political party as it prepares to participate in Zambia’s August 13 general elections. The development marks a significant step for the organisation, which has in recent years positioned itself as a platform for citizen-driven governance reforms.

Speaking during the announcement, Mr Sangwa described the transition as the start of a new political undertaking aimed at raising governance standards and promoting a people-centered agenda.

He said the movement believes the country needs fresh leadership approaches grounded in accountability, institutional strength and active citizen participation in national affairs.

Mr Sangwa explained that the next phase for the organisation will involve developing what he termed a “people’s manifesto,” a policy framework designed to capture the aspirations and priorities of citizens across Zambia.

According to him, the manifesto will be shaped through engagement with communities and stakeholders to ensure that the party’s policy direction reflects the needs of ordinary citizens.

Meanwhile, MNR partner Dolika Banda said the decision to transform the movement into a political party follows strong public support. She noted that the organisation has already reached a milestone of engaging one million citizens who have shown interest in its governance reform agenda.

Ms Banda explained that the initiative initially began as a civic movement focused on encouraging greater citizen participation in national issues. However, she said growing momentum and national interest made it clear that the platform had the potential to evolve into a political force capable of contesting elections and contributing directly to the country’s democratic process.

Internal Rift Erupts in NCP as Rival Factions Claim Leadership Authority

🇿🇲 BRIEFING | Internal Rift Erupts in NCP as Rival Factions Claim Leadership Authority

The New Congress Party (NCP), once positioned as a potential vehicle within the Tonse Alliance opposition structure, is now facing a public internal dispute over its leadership following conflicting announcements regarding the status of party president Peter Chanda.

In a press statement issued by the Office of the President of the New Congress Party, the party leadership dismissed reports suggesting Mr. Chanda had been expelled. The statement described the announcement attributed to Daniel Nyati, who claimed to be acting as Vice President for Administration, as “illegal, unconstitutional and null and void.”

“For the avoidance of doubt, Mr. Peter Chanda remains the duly elected President and leader of the New Congress Party, and the party’s leadership structure remains intact,” the statement said.

The party further argued that Mr. Nyati does not hold the position he claims within the NCP hierarchy and therefore lacks the authority to expel any member of the party.

However, in a competing declaration, Mr. Nyati announced that Peter Chanda had been expelled, alleging the decision was based on amendments to the party constitution and Chanda’s move to endorse PF presidential aspirant Makebi Zulu without approval from the party’s National Executive Committee.

The development exposes deep divisions within the small opposition party, which previously gained attention after inviting Makebi Zulu to contest the presidency using the NCP platform. At the time, the party was viewed by some observers as a potential special-purpose political vehicle within the broader Tonse
opposition arrangement.

In its response, the Chanda-led office suggested the attempted expulsion forms part of a broader effort to destabilise opposition political parties.

“This development appears to be part of a broader pattern where opposition political parties are subjected to internal disruptions through proxy actors,” the statement said.

The unfolding dispute comes as Zambia’s opposition landscape grows increasingly fluid ahead of the August 2026 general elections, with several parties experiencing internal factional battles over leadership, alliances and presidential endorsements.

Political analysts say such internal disputes, particularly within smaller parties, often emerge when parties attempt to reposition themselves within larger coalition politics or around influential presidential candidates.

ZAMBIANS LIVING IN FEAR…arrest of Dr Fred M’membe is evidence of shrinking democratic space – Akashambatwa Mbikusita-Lewanika

ZAMBIANS LIVING IN FEAR

…arrest of Dr Fred M’membe is evidence of shrinking democratic space – Aka

By Adrian Mwanza and Charles Musonda

COUNCIL of Elders member Dr Akashambatwa Mbikusita-Lewanika says Zambians are living in constant fear under the United Party for National Development (UPND) government.

And Patriotic Front (PF) acting national chairperson Jean Kapata says hostility against the opposition has grown so intense that most mobilisation activities, including the former ruling party’s upcoming elective General Conference will be held in secret.

Speaking when he featured on the Emmanuel Mwamba Verified (EMV) podcast on Monday night, Dr Mbikusita-Lewanika warned Zambians not to allow anyone to trample on their civil rights.

“A number of citizens are living in fear because law enforcement agencies are undermining our people’s civil rights. Our civil rights are second to none, and there should be no human being whose human rights are more respected than his own,” Dr Mbikusita-Lewanika said- The Mast

CLAIM ABOUT PRESIDENT CYRIL RAMAPHOSA CALLING FOR ISRAEL TO BE DECLARED A “TERRORIST STATE” BY THE AFRICAN UNION SPARKS MASSIVE ONLINE DEBATE AND CONFUSION

CLAIM ABOUT PRESIDENT CYRIL RAMAPHOSA CALLING FOR ISRAEL TO BE DECLARED A “TERRORIST STATE” BY THE AFRICAN UNION SPARKS MASSIVE ONLINE DEBATE AND CONFUSION 🇿🇦🇮🇱

A controversial claim spreading rapidly across social media has triggered intense discussion after posts alleged that Cyril Ramaphosa, the President of South Africa, promised that the country would push the African Union to officially designate Israel as a “terrorist state.”

The alleged statement has been widely shared on platforms such as X (Twitter), with posts including photos of Ramaphosa speaking at a podium alongside images of the Israeli flag. The posts quickly went viral, receiving thousands of likes, shares, and comments from users around the world.

However, despite the claim gaining significant attention online, there is currently no confirmed video, official transcript, or government statement verifying that Ramaphosa made those exact remarks.

Searches through official South African government channels and major news outlets have not produced clear evidence that the president publicly said South Africa would pressure the African Union to classify Israel as a terrorist state.

Background: South Africa’s Strong Position on the Gaza Conflict

Although the specific quote remains unverified, South Africa has been one of the most vocal critics of Israel’s actions during the ongoing conflict linked to the Israel–Hamas War.

In a major diplomatic move that attracted global attention, South Africa filed a case against Israel at the International Court of Justice, accusing the Israeli government of committing acts of genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The case has positioned South Africa as one of the leading voices internationally calling for accountability and stronger action regarding the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Members of the ruling African National Congress government have repeatedly expressed solidarity with Palestinians and called for an immediate ceasefire, humanitarian aid access, and renewed diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.

Why the Viral Claim Is Being Questioned

The main concern surrounding the viral posts is the lack of verified evidence supporting the statement.

While images of Ramaphosa speaking publicly are being used alongside the quote, none of the posts provide a full speech, official recording, or documented source confirming the claim.

Experts warn that social media can sometimes amplify misleading or out-of-context statements, especially when political issues are involved.

Because of South Africa’s known stance on the Gaza crisis and its legal challenge against Israel at the International Court of Justice, many people online found the quote believable — even though no confirmed source has yet verified it.

Mixed Reactions Across Social Media

The viral claim has triggered strong reactions across different communities:

🔹 Pro-Palestinian supporters praised the alleged statement and called on African leaders to take a stronger collective stance against Israel.

🔹 Critics and analysts questioned the credibility of the quote and warned that spreading unverified information could worsen already sensitive international tensions.

🔹 Some observers also pointed out that the lack of immediate clarification from the presidency has allowed speculation and debate to grow online.

The Bigger Picture

The situation highlights how quickly information — whether accurate or not — can spread across social media platforms and shape global conversations before it is fully verified.

For now, while South Africa continues to play an active diplomatic role regarding the Gaza conflict through the International Court of Justice and international forums, the specific viral quote attributed to President Ramaphosa remains unconfirmed.

Observers say the issue may only be resolved once official statements or verified recordings emerge clarifying whether the president ever made the remarks currently circulating online.

💬 What do you think about this situation?
Should African nations take a stronger united position on the Israel–Gaza conflict, or should diplomatic negotiations remain the main path forward?

IRAN INTRODUCES BIG GUNS TO THE SHOW AS KHORRAMSHAHHR-4 ESCORTED BY CLUSTER BOMBS AND DRONES DECIMATE ISRAEL CITIES.

World at the age as World War 3 rage
Iran Fires Cluster Missiles at Israel, Scattering Bombs over Cities across Israel saturating their strained defense systems. Iran is said to have fired hypersonic Missiles that first went into space, separated and rammed Israel cities at insane speeds that rendered all their defense systems useless.

Khorramshahr-4 is one of Iran’s most advanced weapons, a roughly 13-metre missile with a boost weight of nearly 30 tonnes and a maneuverable re-entry vehicle warhead (MaRV) capable of carrying over 1,000 kilograms of explosive payload separated as it entered

It said the strategic salvo was preceded by attack drones and that the strike package penetrated “seven layers” of regional and domestic air defenses to reach its objectives.

The targets of the strike were central Tel Aviv, Ben-Gurion Airport and Squadron 27 of the Israeli Air Force at the airport, according to the statement.
The IRGC statement also said that in the previous wave its forces had successfully struck some 20 US military targets across Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.

The statement described the strikes as part of coordinated, multi-axis action by Iran’s armed forces that exceeded US and Israeli expectations and had altered the operational calculus of the ongoing war imposed on the Islamic Republic.

In the statement, the IRGC further said American troops were fleeing regional bases and seeking shelter in hotels in host countries, while decrying the US military for using civilian facilities in Persian Gulf states as cover for military activity.

The statement also warned that such movements are under constant intelligence surveillance and that Iranian forces remain prepared to target aggressor troops.

The IRGC says at least 560 American troops have been killed in retaliatory operations and many more injured since Saturday. Iran has stood it’s ground facing Israel and American military mights on two fronts confrontations alone with over 14 countries in the 3rd front targeting US bases as it weighs in adding Israel embassies too. Tehran says it is well prepared for a long war not weeks but years and it can be firing daily until America bleeds and leave middle East.

Trump Issues Ultimatum – Iran Must Surrender Unconditionally Or Face Total Defeat In Seven-day war!

Breaking News : Trump Issues Ultimatum – Iran Must Surrender Unconditionally Or Face Total Defeat In Seven-day war!

In a fiery Truth Social post today, U.S. President Donald J. Trump has escalated his rhetoric against Iran, declaring “No deal with Iran except UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!” as joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes continue to hammer Tehran and key military sites.

Trump, claiming “complete and total control of the skies over Iran,” outlined a post-surrender vision: after capitulation and the installation of “GREAT & ACCEPTABLE Leader(s),” America and its allies would rebuild the nation “economically bigger, better, and stronger than ever before” — signing off with the provocative slogan “MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN (MIGA)!”

This demand arrives on Day 7 of the blistering conflict, triggered by Israel’s preemptive strikes and Iran’s missile barrages. Reports confirm Israeli forces have targeted leadership bunkers linked to the late Supreme Leader, while Iranian drones have struck Gulf oil facilities, spiking Brent crude to nearly $90 per barrel and rattling global markets. Trump also extended an olive branch to Iranian defectors, offering immunity, but warned holdouts face “guaranteed de∆th.”

Iran’s response? Defiant rejection. Officials vow no surrender and “total resistance” to foreign interference, with Supreme Leader proxies labeling Trump’s terms a “humiliating fantasy.”

As tensions boil, former U.S. officials warn of “no clear plan” from the White House, raising fears of a broader regional inferno.

The world holds its breath: Is this the endgame for the Iranian regime, or the spark for World War III? Stay tuned for updates.

Peter Chanda threatens to report Daniel Nyati to the police for impersonation, claiming that he is not the New Congress Party (NCP) Vice President and therefore cannot effect an expulsion.

In an interview with Sun FM TV News, Pastor Chanda challenged Mr. Nyati to produce a document indicating that he was appointed Vice President, failure to  which he will initiate criminal proceedings against Nyati for allegedly expelling him from the NCP over the amendment of the party constitution and the endorsement of Makebi Zulu without the ratification of the National Executive Committee.

Mike Mposha has explained his decision to shift from Munali to contest in the newly created Malambo East Constituency in Eastern Province

I AM YEARNING FOR DEVELOPMENT IN MY HOME VILLAGE – MPOSHA

March 06-2026

Munali United Party for National Development (UPND) Area Member of Parliament Mike Mposha has explained his decision to shift from Munali to contest in the newly created Malambo East Constituency in Eastern Province, saying the move is motivated by his strong desire to bring development to his home village.

Mposha said it has always been his personal aspiration to deliver meaningful and sustainable development to his rural community, noting that his decision to contest in the area is driven by a deep commitment to uplift the lives of his people.

Speaking during an engagement meeting with political stakeholders in Chimdima and Msoro Central Wards, Mposha stated that many rural communities continue to face serious developmental challenges that require deliberate and focused leadership.

He explained that his home area is yearning for basic development such as access to clean and safe drinking water, improved road infrastructure and other essential social services that can significantly improve the quality of life for residents.

Mposha, who also serves as Minister of Green Economy and Environment, emphasized that rural development is a critical pillar of Zambia’s national development agenda and must be prioritized to ensure that no community is left behind.

He further expressed gratitude to the government for successfully passing Bill 7 into law, describing the reform as progressive because it has facilitated the creation and delimitation of new constituencies in order to promote equality and effective representation in Parliament.

According to Mposha, the delimitation process will help enhance service delivery by enabling Members of Parliament to effectively attend to the needs of smaller and more manageable constituencies.

He also commended the current Area Member of Parliament Peter Simon Phiri for the prudent and swift utilization of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), noting that the initiative has played a significant role in delivering development projects despite the constituency being vast.

Mposha added that the CDF has become a powerful instrument for grassroot development as it empowers communities to identify and implement projects that directly address their local needs.

Meanwhile, he challenged residents in the constituency to continue supporting the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, whose administration has introduced transformative policies aimed at improving the livelihoods of citizens across the country

He cited key government initiatives such as Free Education and the School Feeding Programme, stating that the policies are designed to expand access to education, reduce poverty and create a strong foundation for Zambia’s sustainable economic development.

Mposha further encouraged parents across the constituency to take advantage of these opportunities by ensuring that all school-going children are enrolled in school so that they can fully benefit from the government’s education reforms.

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE NEWS DIGGERS: STOP PEDDLING FALSEHOODS—THE LEGAL FACTS BEHIND THE LUNGU BURIAL CASE

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE NEWS DIGGERS: STOP PEDDLING FALSEHOODS—THE LEGAL FACTS BEHIND THE LUNGU BURIAL CASE

Tagline: When Propaganda Masquerades as Journalism, the Public Deserves the Truth

By: Ghost-Writers Media Watch

To the Editor, Ivy Mwansa, and Dr. Mbita Chitala,

Enough of Demagoguery Propaganda.

There comes a point when shoddy journalism transcends mere incompetence and enters the realm of deliberate disinformation. Your recent article, “People are now afraid to speak because of cyber laws – Mbita,” is not just another opinion piece—it is a carefully crafted vehicle for public confusion, designed to shift blame onto the Government of Zambia for a legal impasse that the Lungu family alone has the power to resolve.

Let us be clear: Dr. Chitala’s suggestion that Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha should “discontinue the court matter” is either a display of profound legal illiteracy or a calculated deception. Given his stature as a “veteran politician,” we must assume the latter.

For the sake of the gullible and naive citizens you are deliberately misleading, and for the record of history, here is the complete, chronological, and legally verified timeline of events. We invite you to point out a single inaccuracy.

THE COMPLETE CHRONOLOGY: FROM DEATH TO DELAY

PHASE 1: The Death and Initial Response (June 2025)

5 June 2025 – Former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu dies at Mediclinic Medforum Hospital in Pretoria, South Africa, where he was receiving medical treatment . His daughter, Tasila Lungu-Mwansa, announces his passing in a video statement .

Immediate Aftermath – President Hakainde Hichilema cuts short a development tour in Northern Province, issues a statement of condolence, and orders flags to fly at half-mast for seven days . The government announces plans for a state funeral befitting a former head of state and begins coordination with the family for repatriation .

PHASE 2: The Family’s Change of Course (June 2025)

Mid-June 2025 – The Lungu family abruptly cancels plans to repatriate the body to Zambia, disrupting the national mourning programme declared by the President . They announce intentions to bury the former President privately in South Africa, citing claims that the late President did not want his successor “anywhere near his body” .

24 June 2025 – With burial in South Africa imminent, Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha urgently approaches the Pretoria High Court. The government secures an interdict (injunction) stopping the burial, arguing that: (a) the late President is entitled to a state funeral with full military honours in his homeland; (b) precedent from Zambian law (the Kenneth Kaunda case) establishes the state’s interest in such matters; and (c) public interest demands a dignified repatriation .

PHASE 3: The SAPS Forensic Protocol Consideration

A Critical Legal Note on Autopsy Requirements – Under South African law, when a death occurs under circumstances that may be unnatural, like poisoning allegations by PF Secretary General Mr Nakachinda, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has a statutory mandate. According to the Regulations relating to the provision of Forensic Pathology Service:

A person in charge of a health establishment where a person has died of unnatural causes must immediately notify SAPS.

A post-mortem examination may only be conducted with the express request of the Investigating Officer investigating the death, or authorization from a magistrate.

In all instances where foul play is suspected or causes are unknown, deaths are immediately reported to SAPS for investigation under the Inquests Act, 1959 .

Given the family’s public statements suggesting the late President “may have been eliminated by actors linked to the State” , such allegations—if formally raised—would trigger mandatory SAPS forensic protocols.
This legal reality further complicates any suggestion of a “simple” release of the body.

PHASE 4: The High Court Trial and Judgment (June–August 2025)

24 June – August 2025 – The matter proceeds to trial in the Pretoria High Court. The family argues that the late President’s alleged wishes justify a foreign burial. The government maintains that the presidency as an institution—not political rivalry—demands repatriation .

8 August 2025 – The full bench of the Pretoria High Court unanimously rules in favour of the Zambian government. The Court orders that:

The former President’s remains be repatriated to Zambia

The body be handed over to the Zambian High Commission in Pretoria

Burial proceed with full state honours

The Court explicitly rejects the family’s claims, finding no credible evidence to support assertions that the late President did not want President Hichilema near his funeral .

PHASE 5: The Family’s Multi-Track Legal Resistance (August–December 2025)

26 August 2025 – The family attempts to appeal directly to South Africa’s Constitutional Court, bypassing the Supreme Court of Appeal. Judges reject this irregular approach and direct them back to the proper procedural channels .

16 September 2025 – The family files an application for leave to appeal with the Pretoria High Court. The High Court dismisses the application, ruling there is “no reasonable prospect of success” .

23 December 2025 – The family finally follows correct procedure and petitions the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA). The SCA grants them leave to appeal the High Court’s decision .

CRITICAL POINT: At this stage, the family has been granted permission to appeal—but they have not yet filed their actual appeal. The clock is ticking. The SCA gives them until February 2026 to file their formal notice and arguments .

PHASE 6: Silence, Then Sudden Action—The Asset Forfeiture Connection (February 2026)

December 2025 – January 2026 – For nearly two months after being granted leave to appeal, the family takes no action. The body remains in a Johannesburg morgue. The public is left wondering why the family, having fought so hard for the right to appeal, simply sits on its hands.

8 February 2026 – Zambia’s Economic and Financial Crimes Court (EFCC) orders the forfeiture of 79 vehicles and 23 properties, including a filling station and luxury apartments allegedly gifted by the late President to his son, Dalitso Lungu .

9 February 2026 – COINCIDENCE?
The very next day, the Lungu family finally files its formal appeal with the Supreme Court of Appeal—just one day after the asset forfeiture order, and just days before the February 16 deadline .

PHASE 7: The Current Impasse (Present Day)

Current Status – The matter is now pending before the South African Supreme Court of Appeal. The family has filed its notice of appeal. The government will be required to respond. Legal analysts note that even after the SCA rules, the losing party could potentially appeal further to the Constitutional Court, meaning “the resolution of Lungu’s burial is far from over” .

Who Holds the Power? – Let us be absolutely clear: The active legal instrument preventing burial is the FAMILY’S APPEAL. The government won its case. The government secured a court order for repatriation. The government is ready to receive the body and conduct a state funeral. The only thing standing in the way is the legal action initiated and maintained by the Lungu family .

THE PROPAGANDA TACTICS: A DISSECTION

Now, Ms. Mwansa and Dr. Chitala, let us examine the techniques you are employing to mislead the public:

Tactic #1: Omission of Critical Context

You present Dr. Chitala’s statement that the Attorney General should “discontinue the court matter” without explaining that the government already won its case. You omit that the active case is the family’s appeal. This is not journalism; it is editing the truth to fit a narrative.

Tactic #2: Creating a False Equivalence

By suggesting the government is “holding the burial process,” you imply that the Attorney General has the power to end this by simply walking away. This is legally nonsensical. The government cannot “discontinue” a case it already won. The winner cannot withdraw from a race the loser is still running.

Tactic #3: Weaponizing Public Grief

You exploit the natural desire of Zambians to see their former leader buried with dignity. You use this emotional response to manufacture outrage against the government, when the factual target of that outrage should be the party actively maintaining the litigation.

Tactic #4: The Timing Dodge

The timing of the family’s appeal filing—one day after a massive asset forfeiture order—has raised “serious questions about motive” among political and legal analysts . The appeal is now “widely viewed not as a fight for dignity—but as a last legal front in a collapsing political and financial empire” . Yet your reporting conveniently ignores this context.

Tactic #5: The “Alleged Wishes” Gambit

The family claims the late President did not want President Hichilema near his funeral. The South African High Court rejected this claim for lack of credible evidence . Yet you continue to platform this assertion as fact, allowing the family to have its day in the court of public opinion after losing in the court of law.

THE LEGAL REALITY: WHO CAN END THIS?

For the avoidance of doubt, let us state the legal position in simple terms:

The Government won a court order for repatriation. It is legally and practically ready to implement that order. It cannot unilaterally “withdraw” from a case it already concluded successfully.

The Lungu family lost at the High Court, was denied leave to appeal by the High Court, and only secured leave from the SCA after following proper procedure. They then delayed filing their actual appeal for nearly two months, only doing so after significant asset forfeitures in Zambia.

The Power to End the Legal Process rests with:

The Family, if they withdraw their appeal

The Supreme Court of Appeal, if it rules against the family and no further appeal is pursued

The Constitutional Court, if the matter proceeds to that level

The Attorney General cannot “discontinue” what the family has actively appealed. To suggest otherwise is either ignorance or intentional deception.

A DIRECT CHALLENGE TO THE DIGGERS

Ms. Mwansa, your publication has a “propensity for disinforming the public through carefully selected news sources who mislead without challenge.” This is not an accusation; it is an observation of your established pattern.

You had a responsibility to ask Dr. Chitala the obvious follow-up questions:

“Dr. Chitala, on what legal basis can the Attorney General withdraw from a case he has already won?”

“Is it not the family’s appeal that is currently preventing burial?”

“Why did the family wait until after major asset forfeitures to file their appeal?”

Your failure to ask these questions is not an oversight. It is complicity in a disinformation campaign.

CONCLUSION: THE BALL IS IN ONE COURT

The Zambian people deserve better. They deserve journalists who will tell them, clearly and simply: the Lungu family holds the keys to this legal prison. They filed the appeal. They maintain the appeal. They alone can end the appeal.

Every day that Dr. Chitala appears on your platform to blame the government, every day you publish headlines suggesting the Attorney General is the obstacle, you are actively participating in the deception of the Zambian public.

The facts are on the record. The chronology is undeniable. The legal principle is clear.

The only question remaining is whether The News Diggers will continue its propaganda campaign or finally do what journalism requires: report the truth, even when it is inconvenient for your preferred narrative.

We await your correction with bated breathing.

WHEN IS THE UPND 2026 -2031 MANIFESTO COMING OUT?- Kellys Kaunda

WHEN IS THE UPND 2026 -2031 MANIFESTO COMING OUT?

By Kellys Kaunda

The current UPND manifesto dating back to 2021 comes to its end this August 2026.

The policies that underpinned this time in office emerged from this document.

Those of you that bother to read manifestos and take them seriously must have noticed convergence of declarations therein with policy developments.

As the UPND seeks a new mandate, logically, it needs to do so based on a new manifesto.

A product of its party members to direct the policies that must be pursued by their government, the process of making the new manifesto must be characterized by honest evaluations of performance over the past five years.

Understandably, the ruling party has been supportive of their leaders in government and defending them against attacks by opponents.

However, behind the scenes, as the new manifesto is under construction, gloves must be off.

Be frank and brutal with each other pointing out shortcomings with no fear of retribution.

Over the past five years, you have enough feedback from your political opponents and critics scattered allover social and traditional media.

For instance, in the treatment of your critics and opposition figures, you are no different from PF.

You have arrested, convicted and sent them to jail using the same justifications as PF did.

Like PF, you have taken comfort in diplomatically-worded UN reports on the Human Rights situation in Zambia.

What matters is how Zambians experience how their government treats them and their fellow citizens.

On the economic front, you need to confront the ugly reality that government’s initiatives have been too few and far between to impact the social complexion of the country that has remained as ugly as ever before.

Do not take comfort in the tranquilizing drug of gradualism by saying your labor of today will bear fruits in the near future.

That refrain is so familiar, it is now known for what it is – a euphemism for merely begging for another mandate for the sake of it.

It’s typical of governments that simply keep the status quo while watching for the lid placed on people’s emotions to ensure they don’t erupt out of frustration and impatience.

I know this is a lot to require from political entities that are often more concerned about temporal things such as winning an election rather than winning prosperity for all.

But, may someone break the ranks for the first time and apply themselves to what truly transforms the lives of the ordinary folks who happen to be in the majority.

As you embark on the manifesto, be sure to separate the image you have created of yourselves through strategic communication from reality.

You may be in danger of believing your own words and your own constructed images.

You have watched yourselves so many times on ZNBC, you have began to believe that that is the reality of life.

Like other political parties before, you may have politically engineered student support and endorsements and began to believe that  as reality.

You may have done the same with Councilors, and some MPs as well as some traditional leaders.

Be honest among yourselves so that the new manifesto becomes a product of the party’s true self.

If Zambians vote for you back based on a manifesto produced thus, you have a much better chance of giving Zambians a new policy direction where benefits are not promises lying far in the distant future but in a tomorrow they can realistically look forward to.

KELVIN KAUNDA URGES HH TO CONSIDER REAPPOINTING DR. CHILUFYA AS HEALTH MINISTER

KELVIN KAUNDA URGES HH TO CONSIDER REAPPOINTING DR. CHILUFYA AS HEALTH MINISTER

By Favourite Chisi

Former Socialist National Youth Chairperson Kelvin Kaunda has proposed that if President Hakainde Hichilema does not have a suitable Member of Parliament to appoint as Health Minister following the dismissal of Elijah Muchima, he should consider reappointing former Health Minister Dr. Chitalu Chilufya.

Mr. Kaunda says Dr. Chilufya would gladly accept the position, adding that such a move could also reduce the number of presidential candidates within the Patriotic Front.

He has described Dr. Chilufya as one of the best Health Ministers the country has had, stating that he remains capable of making a meaningful contribution.

Mr. Kaunda says Dr. Chilufya is experienced and that the President does not have the luxury of time, urging him to quickly consider the reappointment.

He has explained that his proposal is based on the need to avoid appointing someone who would still be learning on the job.

According to Mr. Kaunda, the country needs a minister who can hit the ground running, and he believes Dr. Chilufya fits that description.

Mr. Kaunda further praised Dr. Chilufya’s performance during the pandemic period, saying he did very well.

He is of the view that with limited time remaining before the general election, nothing prevents the President from appointing

Dr. Chilufya, saying there should never be a leadership vacuum, even if only a short period remains before elections.

Mr. Kaunda says apart from the transition period prescribed by law, leadership is required at all times, especially between now and August a period he says is too long to allow a vacancy at the Ministry of Health.

Mr. Kaunda says he expected the President to appoint a replacement on the same day the former minister was dismissed, emphasizing that health is critical to the country’s wellbeing.

He has stated that the nation’s wealth depends on the health of its people and that the absence of key leadership at the Ministry of Health is unacceptable.

He has also pointed out that several institutions under the Ministry of Health currently do not have boards in place, making it difficult for them to make key decisions, as some decisions can only be made by duly constituted boards.

Mr. Kaunda has warned that waiting several months to fill these leadership gaps could delay important strategic decisions, reiterating that there must be no vacuum when it comes to leadership.

WHY IS FORMER & LATE PRESIDENT, ECL NOT BURIED? WHO’S THE PROBLEM? IS IT THE FAMILY? THE GOVERNMENT OR THE SA COURTs/LAW ENFORCERS?

WHY IS FORMER & LATE PRESIDENT, ECL NOT BURIED? WHO’S THE PROBLEM? IS IT THE FAMILY? THE GOVERNMENT OR THE SA COURTs/LAW ENFORCERS?

Nine (9) months is a long period please, yet someone with a former president status has not been buried due to unknown facts.

1). If the family chooses to bury ECL in South Africa, then why a private funeral?

2). If the government of Zambia wants ECL to be buried in Zambia at the Embassy Park where all the late Presidents were buried from what does the law says after the late President dies ?

3). If he died in Zambia, which country would they have chosen to bury him?

4). What are the demands of the family for this chapter to be concluded and of course to have ECL buried rightfully?

5). Why can’t the government just leave ECL family case in South Africa?

5). Must we forget about this funeral and come back to it after August elections or what?

My heart is bleeding 💔 iam not siding with the government or ECL family and I know iam not a lawyer to understand this issue but my heart is not at peace because Edgar Chagwa Lungu was our own President, the President for the whole Zambia 😭.

Even if is Embassy Park, Chifwema or South Africa Please ECL must be put to rest the world will laugh at us Zambians and Africans.

HOUSE OF CHIEFS TO CONVENE NEXT MONTH FOR POSSIBLE FORMATION OF COMMITTEE TO HANDLE SUCCESSION DISPUTES

HOUSE OF CHIEFS TO CONVENE NEXT MONTH FOR POSSIBLE FORMATION OF COMMITTEE TO HANDLE SUCCESSION DISPUTES

House of Chiefs Chairperson Chief Choongo has disclosed that the House is expected to convene next month to discuss the formation of a committee mandated to oversee succession wrangles in chiefdoms across the country.

The traditional leader says the meeting aims to establish a structured approach to resolving disputes that often arise during the selection of traditional leaders following a death after a challenge by government last year, urging traditional leaders to create an internal mechanism specifically tasked with handling succession matters.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Chief Choongo explained that the move is intended to reduce the number of cases taken to courts, allowing traditional authorities to resolve such disputes within their established governance systems.

He said that it is not appropriate for succession wrangles to be handled by the courts when most issues, including family lineage and royal family trees, are well understood within their respective chiefdoms.

Meanwhile, Chief Choongo has revealed that traditional leaders are proposing that the formation of the committee be enshrined in the country’s constitution, saying such a provision would ensure succession wrangles are handled in a clear and consistent manner, ultimately providing lasting solutions to disputes affecting traditional leadership in Zambia.

Fuel Markets, War Risks and Zambia’s Thin Margin of Safety

🇿🇲 VIEWPOINT | Fuel Markets, War Risks and Zambia’s Thin Margin of Safety

Government’s warning to fuel suppliers against hoarding reflects more than routine market discipline. It signals concern about speculation in a volatile global energy environment. Middle East tensions have already unsettled oil markets. Zambia sits far from the battlefield, yet the pump price remains the first place the shock will land.

Yesterday, Energy Minister Makozo Chikote moved quickly to calm the market. Zambia’s petroleum supply remains stable for now. Diesel stocks stand at 326 million litres, equal to about 60 days of cover. Petrol reserves sit at 32.8 million litres, roughly 19 days. Kerosene holds 14 days of supply, while Jet A-1 aviation fuel covers about nine days. Existing stocks were purchased at lower international prices. Immediate shortages remain unlikely.

The minister also warned filling stations against engineering artificial scarcity. Hoarding during geopolitical tension often precedes price spikes. Markets react quickly to perception. Panic buying or restricted retail supply can trigger shortages even when national reserves remain healthy.

But the global backdrop remains fragile.

The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway linking the Persian Gulf to the open ocean, handles over 20 percent of global crude flows. War in the region threatens shipping routes, insurance premiums and freight costs. Economist Kelvin Chisanga notes the corridor’s strategic importance.

“The Middle East has a very important corridor which supplies about 30 percent of oil to the global market,” he said, warning fuel-importing economies such as Zambia remain exposed.

Oil markets have already moved. Prices swung sharply following US-Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and retaliatory missile attacks across the Gulf. Washington reports more than 1,250 targets hit in early phases of the campaign. Iran responded with strikes against US-linked installations in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Energy infrastructure and shipping lanes now operate under heightened risk.

Local pump prices had just begun easing before the conflict escalated. Petrol fell from K29.92 in January to K27.88 in February and K26.61 this month. Diesel dropped from K25.11 in January to K23.25 currently. A strengthening kwacha helped drive the reductions. Global instability now threatens to reverse those gains.

Chisanga warns fuel inflation moves quickly through the economy. Transport costs rise first. Food distribution follows. Manufacturing and agriculture absorb higher energy input costs. “Fuel contributed about 0.3 percent to inflation in February alone,” he said.

A sustained oil shock could lift inflation across multiple sectors.

Exchange-rate pressure adds another layer of risk. Zambia imports petroleum in foreign currency. Higher fuel bills raise demand for dollars. Rising import costs ripple through production and consumption, tightening liquidity in the foreign-exchange market. Strong copper prices provide some relief, though commodity gains rarely offset oil shocks immediately.

Government is exploring contingency routes. Talks with Dangote supply networks and alternative corridors such as Walvis Bay or regional sourcing from Angola remain on the table. Diversification reduces reliance on a single maritime corridor. Energy logistics now form part of national economic security.

Zambia holds one advantage: improved reserves. Foreign-exchange reserves stand near US$5.5 billion. Those reserves offer breathing space in the short term. They cannot permanently shield the economy from prolonged energy shocks.

Fuel prices often behave like an economic nerve. Small movements ripple across transport, food, industry and household budgets. War in the Gulf may feel distant. Economic transmission arrives quickly. Markets already show early tremors. Policy strategy and supply diversification will determine whether those tremors evolve into a full inflation wave.

FRED M’MEMBE’S ARREST – A PAINFUL REMINDER OF A STAIN THAT REFUSES TO GO

FRED M’MEMBE’S ARREST – A PAINFUL REMINDER OF A STAIN THAT REFUSES TO GO

People change governments because they want some things to change.

One of the things Zambians wanted to see changed is the arresting of opposition figures.

While in the opposition Hichilema was arrested more than ten times!

His detention at Mukobeko took the intervention of the Commonwealth Secretariate.

Before that, his arrest was a matter of spirited debate at the EU Parliament where it was seen as harassment of a political opponent.

We have seen compensations done in respect of those that feel they had been unlawfully detained during the time of PF in office.

But, in a shocking turn of events, the UPND is committing exactly the same sins for which the Zambian people punished PF by voting them out of office!

Logically, the question is: what makes UPND think that they can go back to the same voters and ask them to retain them in office when they are committing the same sins they punished their predecessors for?

This kind of reasoning beats me. It’s no different from a Bemba saying that the adultery of a man never breaks a home.

This is to assume that it is only adultery when it’s a married woman who has committed it.

In a Christian nation, I expect better reasoning. Christ confirmed wrongdoing is wrongdoing no matter the gender in question.

He did this when He refused to condemn a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery.

Going by this logic, the arrests of politicians under PF are just as wrong as their arrests under UPND.

During that time,   PF would go to greater lengths to justify the arrests.

Today, UPND similarly goes to greater lengths to justify the same deeds.

Whether they think we as citizens are so dimwitted we can’t see that there’s no difference, I don’t get it.

UPND is the ‘New Dawn’ government which must signify a new day and a fresh start.

It must signify a break from the past while unveiling new heights of freedom to scale.

How hard can this be?

Whatever Fred M’membe said could ably be responded to and countered by the communication and media team of both government and the ruling party.

There was no need for the intervention of the criminal justice system.

This, unfairly, tilts the scale in favor of the ruling party.

Remember that this is happening barely a few months before elections.

Without much thought, the arrest can easily be interpreted as Hichilema intimidating his opponents even when it may not be the case.

If we go into the forthcoming election with arrests of opposition figures continuing, others appearing in court and in prison, the political environment can hardly be free and fair.

And if Hichilema emerges the winner, his legitimacy will carry a huge question mark for the rest of his life.

How hard can it be to clean the stain of arrests of political opponents off our political system?

Frozen King, Fractured Kingdom…the Edgar Lungu mystery

Frozen King, Fractured Kingdom
…the Edgar Lungu mystery

5 Mar 26

Nine months since Zambia’s sixth President, Edgar Lungu, breathed his last, he remains entombed not in soil but in a Pretoria fridge, an icy purgatory imposed by a court action that barred his widow from laying him to rest.

The Attorney General’s writ has turned grief into grotesque theatre, where mourning is paused like a bad Netflix stream.

Yet the stage is not silent. Dr. Fred M’membe of the Socialist Party and Hon. Hon. Brian Mundubile have fought a spirited duel for dignity, demanding that the curtain fall properly on this chapter.

For eight months, I have penned at least two articles per week—pleas, laments, and satirical cries—for a burial befitting a man who once held the sceptre of state.  Lest we forget.

But alas, Zambia now resembles Macbeth’s Scotland, where “fair is foul and foul is fair,” and Hamlet’s Denmark, where the ghost of the king wanders, restless, demanding justice.

How long shall we keep a President on ice, as if waiting for a political thaw? “La justicia tarda, pero llega”—justice may be delayed, but it arrives. Or so we hope.

This is not just tragedy; it is farce. A nation that cannot bury its leader is a nation rehearsing sorrow in perpetuity. Tomorrow, I sharpen the quill once more, for satire is the only sword left when dignity is denied.

Me myself personally, I can only pray and beg our beloved President HH to order Kabesha to drop the court action once he gets a stroke of inspiration, and I know he is a good man and he is capable of burying this matter bt then who am I, nothing.

Catch Mukwita on Point this Friday in the Daily Nation, where sorrow dances with wit, and frozen kings remind us that justice delayed is dignity denied. In image, the sixth President and I when I visited him juts five months before he passed away at his retirement home in Chifwema east of Lusaka near the multi facility economy zone. Smart Eagles

Peddling Falsehoods About the Legal Reality of the Lungu Burial Case

When Propaganda Disguises Itself as Journalism, the Public Deserves the Truth

Enough of the demagoguery. Enough of the propaganda.

There comes a point when sloppy journalism stops being mere incompetence and becomes something far more troubling—deliberate public deception. The recent article published by News Diggers titled “People are now afraid to speak because of cyber laws – Mbita” is not simply another misguided opinion piece. It is a carefully constructed narrative designed to mislead the public and falsely shift responsibility onto the Government of Zambia for a legal deadlock that the Lungu family themselves created and continue to maintain.

Let us be absolutely clear.

The claim by Mbita Chitala that the Attorney General, Mulilo Kabesha, should simply “discontinue the court matter” is either breathtaking legal ignorance or a calculated attempt to mislead the public. Considering Chitala’s long career in politics, one is forced to conclude it is the latter.

For the benefit of the citizens being deliberately misled—and for the historical record—the facts are straightforward and verifiable.

THE ACTUAL CHRONOLOGY: FROM DEATH TO LEGAL DEADLOCK

Phase 1: Death and National Response

On June 5, 2025, former Zambian President Edgar Chagwa Lungu died at Mediclinic Medforum Hospital in Pretoria, South Africa while receiving medical treatment. His daughter, Tasila Lungu-Mwansa, publicly confirmed his passing.

Immediately afterward, President Hakainde Hichilema cut short a tour of Northern Province, declared national mourning, ordered flags flown at half-mast, and announced that the government would organize a state funeral befitting a former head of state.

Preparations began to repatriate the body to Zambia.

Phase 2: The Family Changes Course

In mid-June 2025, the Lungu family abruptly reversed course, canceling plans to return the body to Zambia and instead announcing plans to bury the former president privately in South Africa.

They claimed the late president allegedly did not want President Hichilema near his funeral.

This claim would later be tested in court.

Phase 3: The Government Goes to Court

With burial in South Africa imminent, Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha filed an urgent application in the Pretoria High Court on June 24, 2025.

The government argued three key points:
1. A former head of state is entitled to a state funeral in his homeland.
2. Zambian precedent—including the burial arrangements for Kenneth Kaunda—established the state’s legitimate interest in such matters.
3. National interest demanded a dignified repatriation.

The court issued an interdict preventing burial in South Africa.

Phase 4: The High Court Ruling

After full proceedings, the Pretoria High Court delivered a unanimous ruling on August 8, 2025.

The court ordered that:
• The body of Edgar Lungu be repatriated to Zambia
• The remains be handed to the Zambian High Commission
• Burial proceed with full state honors

Crucially, the court rejected the family’s claim that the late president had barred Hichilema from attending his funeral, citing a lack of credible evidence.

In simple terms:

The Government of Zambia won the case.

Phase 5: The Family’s Legal Resistance

The family then embarked on a series of legal maneuvers:
• August 26, 2025: Attempted to bypass procedure and appeal directly to South Africa’s Constitutional Court. The court rejected the attempt.
• September 16, 2025: Sought leave to appeal from the High Court. The court dismissed it, ruling there was no reasonable prospect of success.
• December 23, 2025: Petitioned the Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa, which granted them permission to appeal.

But permission to appeal is not the appeal itself.

The family still had to file the actual appeal.

Phase 6: Months of Silence

After securing leave to appeal, the family did nothing for nearly two months.

The body remained in a Johannesburg morgue while the public was left wondering why those who claimed to be fighting for burial were not actually pursuing their appeal.

Then something changed.

Phase 7: The Asset Forfeiture Trigger

On February 8, 2026, Zambia’s Economic and Financial Crimes Court ordered the forfeiture of 79 vehicles and 23 properties linked to Dalitso Lungu.

The very next day—February 9, 2026—the Lungu family suddenly filed their appeal with the Supreme Court of Appeal.

After two months of inactivity.

Just one day after the asset seizure.

The timing raised obvious questions.

THE CURRENT REALITY

Today, the case sits before the Supreme Court of Appeal.

And here is the critical fact that publications like News Diggers refuse to tell the public:

The active legal barrier preventing burial is the family’s appeal.

Not the government.

Not the Attorney General.

The family’s appeal.

The government already won its case and stands ready to implement the court order.

THE PROPAGANDA PLAYBOOK

The reporting by News Diggers relies on several familiar propaganda tactics.

1. Omission of Context

The article repeats Chitala’s claim that the Attorney General should withdraw the case—but conveniently fails to explain that the government already won the case.

The only active case is the family’s appeal.

That is not journalism.

That is narrative manipulation.

2. False Equivalence

Readers are led to believe the government is blocking burial.

This is legally absurd.

A party cannot “withdraw” from litigation it already won.

3. Exploiting Public Emotion

The grief of Zambians is weaponized to manufacture outrage against the government.

But the legal delay exists because the family chose to continue litigation.

4. Ignoring Suspicious Timing

The appeal was filed one day after a major asset forfeiture ruling.

Yet News Diggers conveniently ignored that context entirely.

THE SIMPLE LEGAL TRUTH

Let us strip away the propaganda.

The burial can be resolved in only three ways:
1. The Lungu family withdraws the appeal
2. The Supreme Court of Appeal dismisses the appeal
3. The matter goes to the Constitutional Court

The Attorney General cannot discontinue an appeal filed by the opposing party.

Anyone claiming otherwise is either profoundly ignorant of the law—or deliberately lying.

A DIRECT CHALLENGE TO NEWS DIGGERS

Ms. Mwansa, responsible journalism requires asking basic questions.

You should have asked:
• On what legal basis can the Attorney General withdraw from a case he already won?
• Is it not the family’s appeal currently preventing burial?
• Why did the family wait until after asset forfeitures to file the appeal?

You asked none of them.

That is not oversight.

That is complicity in spreading misinformation.

FINAL WORD

The Zambian people deserve the truth.

The legal record is clear.

The timeline is documented.

The law is unambiguous.

The Lungu family filed the appeal.
The Lungu family maintains the appeal.
The Lungu family alone has the power to withdraw the appeal.

Every headline pretending otherwise is not journalism—it is propaganda.

And until News Diggers corrects the record, it will remain part of the very misinformation machine it claims to oppose.

Over 600 PF Members in Lundazi Defect to Citizens First

Over 600 PF Members in Lundazi Defect to Citizens First

As momentum builds towards the August elections, more than 600 members of the former ruling Patriotic Front (PF) from four wards in eastern Lundazi District have resigned from their positions and joined the Harry Kalaba-led Citizens First (CF) Party.

According to CF, this signals a notable shift in the district’s political dynamics ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Lundazi has traditionally been considered a stronghold of the PF, but the prevailing political mood suggests a splitting ground.

IMF WARNS OF INFLATION RISKS AS OIL PRICES RISE

IMF WARNS OF INFLATION RISKS AS OIL PRICES RISE

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned that rising global oil prices and geopolitical tensions could fuel inflation and pressure Zambia’s exchange rate.

The Fund said domestic price adjustments reflecting higher international oil costs could help protect fuel tax revenues, while maintaining policy discipline and building economic buffers remains vital.

The IMF highlighted Zambia’s progress in fiscal discipline and debt restructuring, which is helping stabilize the economy.

Recovery in mining and agriculture, improvements in electricity generation, and structural reforms support a cautiously optimistic outlook.

Zambia is also exploring a successor programme with the IMF. An IMF team led by Edward Gemayel recently held talks with President Hakainde Hichilema, Finance Minister Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, and Bank of Zambia Governor Denny Kalyalya, with preliminary discussions expected from April and full policy talks after the elections.

Netanyahu Slams Israel’s President: Pardon Benjamin Netanyahu NOW or Face the Consequences

Trump Slams Israel’s President: Pardon Bibi NOW or Face the Consequences

President Donald Trump isn’t mincing words. In a fiery phone interview, he demanded that Israeli President Isaac Herzog grant Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu an immediate pardon for his long-running domestic corruption charges—today.

Trump’s blunt message: Netanyahu needs to focus 100% on crushing the Iranian threat amid escalating regional conflict, not waste time in court on what Trump calls a politically motivated “witch hunt.”

“Every day I talk to Bibi about the war,” Trump declared. “I want him to focus on the war and not on the f*cking court case. I want the only pressure on Bibi to be fighting Iran.”

He didn’t hold back on Herzog either, branding him “a disgrace” for dragging his feet and claiming the Israeli president had “promised me five times” to issue the pardon—only to backtrack.

This isn’t new. Trump has pushed hard for Netanyahu’s exoneration since returning to office, from off-script Knesset calls to formal letters, arguing a strong, undistracted Israeli leader is essential to America’s interests and Middle East stability.

Critics whine about interference. Supporters see it clearly: Wartime demands bold action. A distracted ally fighting for survival helps no one—least of all the free world staring down radical Iran.

Trump’s bottom line? Pardon Bibi, unite Israel, and finish the job against Tehran. Anything less is weakness when strength is needed most. 

HUMILITY OVER FORMALITY: WESTERN CAPE PREMIER ALAN WINDE ARRIVES AT LEGISLATURE IN CYCLING SHORTS AND PINK SOCKS – A LEADER WHO IS NOT AFRAID TO BE HUMAN AND CONNECT WITH ORDINARY PEOPLE

HUMILITY OVER FORMALITY: WESTERN CAPE PREMIER ALAN WINDE ARRIVES AT LEGISLATURE IN CYCLING SHORTS AND PINK SOCKS – A LEADER WHO IS NOT AFRAID TO BE HUMAN AND CONNECT WITH ORDINARY PEOPLE

Alan Winde surprised many people when he arrived at the Western Cape Legislature dressed not in a formal suit, but in cycling shorts and bright pink socks. Instead of the usual political attire, the premier showed up in the same gear many ordinary citizens wear when they are exercising or commuting by bicycle.

The moment quickly caught the attention of those present because it broke away from the stiff and highly formal image often associated with political leaders. Rather than presenting himself as distant or overly polished, Winde appeared relaxed, approachable, and comfortable being himself.

For many observers, the gesture symbolised humility. It showed a leader who is not afraid to step away from rigid traditions and present himself just like any other person who enjoys cycling and healthy living. In a time when politicians are often criticised for being disconnected from everyday people, such moments can remind the public that leaders are also human.

Cycling is something the premier has openly supported as part of promoting a healthier lifestyle and environmentally friendly transport. By arriving in cycling gear, he also reinforced the message that physical activity and sustainable transport should be encouraged in communities across the province.

Some people laughed, others were surprised, but many praised the move as refreshing. It demonstrated confidence, authenticity and a willingness to lead without always hiding behind formality.

Leadership is not always about suits and ties. Sometimes it is about showing the public that you are comfortable in your own skin and willing to break the stereotype of what a politician should look like.

“We are not guns for hire.” Iraq’s first lady tells US and Iran to “leave the Kurds alone”

1

Iraq’s First Lady Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed released a strongly-worded open letter on Thursday urging all sides involved in the war with Iran to “leave the Kurds alone.”

The letter comes amid reports that the CIA is encouraging Iranian Kurdish fighters in Iraq to challenge Iran. It also follows an Iranian attack on what Iranian media referred to as “separatist terrorist groups” in Iraqi Kurdistan on Wednesday.

Ahmed’s letter recounts how the US urged Iraqi Kurds to “rise up against the regime of Saddam Hussein” in 1991, only for the Kurds “to be abandoned when priorities changed.”

The Iraqi first lady, who is Kurdish herself, also notes that the US ended its alliance with Kurdish forces in Syria in January after several years of close coordination, allowing the Syrian government to seize swathes of Kurdish-held territory.

“Too often, the Kurds are remembered only when their strength or sacrifice is needed,” Ahmed concluded. “For that reason, I appeal to all sides involved in this conflict. Leave the Kurds alone. We are not guns for hire.”

Ahmed’s letter is only the latest statement from Kurdish leaders in Iraq distancing themselves from the reported CIA plan to deploy Iranian Kurds.

Earlier Thursday, the Kurdistan Regional Government said it was “not part of any campaign to expand the war and tensions in the region,” calling reports of Iraqi involvement with the CIA plan to support an invasion “completely unfounded.”- CNN

He chooses the ‘easy path’ designed for cherry picking,, low impact, lazy, uncreative and untalented beings.

They’re easy to spot. They hide their incompetence by escaping or never actually applying themselves in the practical world.

A perfect cave for them; universities!  Being perpetual mature students well into retirement age and then smoothly attaching to academia without any impact in the actual craft or industry in the real world.

Unlike some of their more practical peers in academia, who manouver inbetween public service or high impact application of their craft in the real world and then go back in and out periodically to contribute from first hand practical relevant experience.

This special kind are specialists in spewing hate and malice from their lofty ‘no risk’ life position as armchair critics.

Their easy targets? Actual contributors and shapers. They use the ‘cover’ of their obscure unusable thesis, subjective intellectualism  and academic titling that only serves to buffer or placate their inferiority complex. They pander to power and imagined audiences that mainly ignores them or forgets about them at best.

They can only pop back into our focus for a few minutes at a time, by launching assaults on our attention when they sporadically pen such lengthy “pull-him-down” articles about societal heroes, pioneers and contributors.

Their periodic relevance is ironically tied to targeting or mentioning their nermesis or the subjects of their venom. They scavange the authentic  following, audience, support base and influence garnered by their targets.

The ‘provocked’ audience that has been earned through the subjects legacy, grit, talent or ‘hands on’ work and quantifiable practice (and sometimes favor.)

All such attributes that seem illusive to such haters and their envious kind hence the ‘escape’ to permanent varsity life. Whatever the case, the provocked audience is click baited to spare a few minutes in their attention to respond to these inconsequential ‘thinkers’ or once-upon-a-time, has-beens, in defence of our respespected or reveered ‘victims’ (like Im doing right now lol!).

Long live General Miyanda who I believe also needs to get his flowers. He stood for democracy, selfless service and intergrity before we even knew how to spell those words! We know your true story and honor you sir!

KANGWA SAFELY RETURNS HOME AMID MIDDLE EAST TENSIONS

KANGWA SAFELY RETURNS HOME AMID MIDDLE EAST TENSIONS

Chipolopolo midfielder Klings Kangwa has confirmed that he has safely returned to Zambia after leaving Israel amid the escalating conflict involving Iran and the United States.

Kangwa, who plays for Hapoel Be’er Sheva in the Israeli Premier League, announced his safe return through a social media post.

His return has brought relief to many Zambian football fans who had been worried about the safety of players based in Israel following the intensifying military exchanges in the region.

However, several Zambian players are still believed to be in Israel, including Chipyoka Songa, Kennedy Musonda and Evarine Susan Katongo.

With commercial travel options limited, the most viable exit route for those still stranded is believed to be through neighbouring Egypt, prompting calls for the Zambian government to help facilitate transit visas.

ZAMBIA LIKELY TO FACE HIGHER FUEL PRICES – ECONOMIST

ZAMBIA LIKELY TO FACE HIGHER FUEL PRICES – ECONOMIST

Economist Kelvin Chisanga says Zambia is likely to experience increased fuel costs in the coming weeks due to global supply disruptions and limited domestic stocks.

Chisanga explained that diesel reserves remain strong at about 300 million litres, enough to sustain operations for 60 days, offering some stability to transport and industry.

He noted that petrol, kerosene and aviation fuel are more vulnerable, with coverage of only 19, 14 and 9 days respectively, which makes the market highly sensitive to shocks.

The Economist emphasised that government has introduced a statutory levy as a reserve measure to safeguard fuel availability and cushion against international price movements.

Chisanga pointed out that despite this intervention, households, businesses and transport operators are expected to feel the burden of rising costs.

He stressed that diversification of import sources is essential to reduce reliance on a few suppliers and strengthen domestic reserves.

The Economist highlighted that energy efficiency, extended storage capacity and investment in alternative energy solutions will be vital to mitigate demand pressures and protect consumers.

ARMY NABS ZESCO EMPLOYEE POSING AS AN ARMY OFFICER

ARMY NABS ZESCO EMPLOYEE POSING AS AN ARMY OFFICER

The Zambia Army has apprehended  a 32-year-old ZESCO employee, identified as Amutike Simunji, in Chongwe District for allegedly impersonating an Army Officer and unlawfully possessing military uniforms and tactical equipment.

The arrest was made this afternoon during routine patrols conducted by the Army Military Police as part of the Zambia Army’s continued efforts to ensure that military uniforms are not misused for criminal activities, in line with the provisions of the Security Act.

Mr Simunji was apprehended at the ZESCO offices in Chongwe, where he was found with an Army combat uniform inside his Mercedes-Benz vehicle, registration number CAJ 225.

Following the arrest, a joint search operation conducted by the Zambia Army Military Police and the Zambia Police Service at Mr Simunji’s residence in Dam area of Chongwe District led to the discovery of several military regalia.

The items recovered included two pairs of combat uniforms, an Army jersey pullover, tactical knee and elbow pads, a pair of desert boots, black military boots, a camouflage bag, two jungle combat hats, and rank insignia for a Second Lieutenant.

Additionally, the search uncovered ZESCO service cables measuring 20 metres, 26 metres, and 65 metres respectively.

The Zambia Army is once again warning industries, manufacturers, and tailors to refrain from producing military uniforms and related attire without authorisation.

The Army reiterates that it will not tolerate the misuse of military attire by members of the public for criminal purposes and to this effect, it will not relent but intensify its operations to stop the vice.

The Zambia Army has also expressed gratitude to members of the public who continue to cooperate with security agencies by providing information to the Military Police about individuals posing as military officers in society.

Trump and Pete Hegseth sank a defenseless Iranian ship and then left the survivors to DROWN in violation of the Geneva Convention and basic human decency

BREAKING: Trump and Pete Hegseth sank a defenseless Iranian ship and then left the survivors to DROWN in violation of the Geneva Convention and basic human decency!

Kanwal Sibal, a very distinguished Indian statesman and former Foreign Secretary, called out Trump and Pete Hegseth for war crimes in the sinking of the IRIS Dena, an Iranian warship that was in India for joint exercises.

“I am told that as per protocol for this exercise, ships cannot carry any ammunition. It was defenceless,” said Sibal. “The attack by the US submarine was premeditated as the US was aware of the Iranian ship’s presence in the exercise to which the US navy was invited but withdrew from participation at the last minute, presumably with this operation in mind.”

“The US has ignored India’s sensitivities as the ship was in these waters because of India’s invitation.

The attack, which has been championed as a great victory by Trump and Hegseth, killed 87 sailors and left 32 survivors, who the Americans left to drown. Sri Lanka was forced to step in and rescue them.

This is a shocking display of the cruelty and depravity of Pete Hegseth’s military. Helping survivors is one of the most important unspoken rules of the sea; even the Nazis were known for helping rescue the survivors of their U-Boat attacks in World War 2.

Far from being a huge win for America, it was yet another display of the Trump administration’s cowardice: sinking a defenseless ship and then leaving brown people to die.

Human life means nothing to these monsters.

IRANIAN SENIOR MILITARY GENERAL SAYS THE WAR WON’T BE ABANDONED UNTIL AMERICA BLEEDS DIRECT OR INDIRECT FROM IT.

IRANIAN SENIOR MILITARY GENERAL SAYS THE WAR WON’T BE ABANDONED UNTIL AMERICA BLEEDS DIRECT OR INDIRECT FROM IT.

According to a report by Al-Jazeera, Iranian Brigadier General Kioumars Heydari, a senior military commander, issued a defiant statement declaring that Iran “will not abandon this war” until it fully achieves its objectives and inflicts severe blows on the United States.

Heydari’s pledge came as explosions rocked Tehran and other parts of Iran, with reports of ongoing strikes targeting military infrastructure. Despite fire power disadvantage in the game, Iran has brought to the table biggest surprise that keeps the contest attritional by launching Missiles and drones and taking out US positions in the middle East as well as landing Iranian missiles right in the heart of Israel over 2,000 KM away from it’s soils. The military precision and constituency is leaving analysts and experts wondering where and how Iran is managing to keep fighting despite the deadliest onslaught from Israel and USA.

He said. “We Will Not Abandon This War Until America Bleeds”.

The conflict, which has widened to include Israeli operations in Lebanon, has pushed the death toll above 1,000, according to regional sources, and sent global energy prices surging amid fears of broader disruption in the Middle East.

The US Senate recently backed expanded presidential authority for military actions against Iran, rejecting efforts to limit the scope of operations under President Trump.

Joint US-Israeli assaults have reportedly degraded significant portions of Iran’s missile capabilities, naval assets, and command structure, with some Iranian warships and drone carriers destroyed in recent days.

Heydari’s remarks underscore Tehran’s resolve despite mounting losses. Iranian officials have repeatedly warned that any aggression would trigger asymmetric responses, including potential strikes on US bases across the region.

Earlier statements from Heydari and other commanders emphasized that Iran would not tolerate insecurity on its soil while allowing stability elsewhere, vowing harsh retaliation against perceived threats from the US and its allies.

The escalating war has drawn international concern, with energy markets volatile and calls for de-escalation growing. Iran has launched counterattacks, including missile barrages and operations against perceived separatist elements in neighboring Iraq.

Analysts warn that continued bombardment could prolong the conflict, risking a prolonged regional conflagration involving proxies and allies on multiple fronts.

As strikes persist, Heydari’s statement signals no immediate retreat from Iran’s position, framing the fight as existential and aimed at delivering decisive setbacks to American involvement in the region.

CENTCOM Signals Long Haul: Iran Campaign Could Drag Through September

CENTCOM Signals Long Haul: Iran Campaign Could Drag Through September

U.S. Central Command is quietly preparing for the long fight. An internal Pentagon notification reveals CENTCOM has requested additional military intelligence officers to support operations against Iran for at least 100 days—potentially stretching all the way to September 2026.

This comes just days into Operation Epic Fury, the decisive campaign launched under President Trump’s direction to dismantle Iran’s terrorist regime, destroy its missile arsenal, cripple its navy, and eliminate the nuclear threat once and for all.

The request directly contradicts the initial four-week timeline floated by the administration. Instead, it shows the Pentagon is already reallocating resources for a sustained effort to finish the job right.

Iran’s ability to strike back is crumbling fast—thousands of targets hit, command centers obliterated, air defenses shredded—but the mullahs won’t go quietly. CENTCOM knows a quick knockout isn’t realistic against a regime that’s spent decades building proxies and fortifications.

Bottom line: America is committed to victory, not half-measures. If it takes longer to neutralize the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism and prevent a nuclear-armed Iran, so be it. Better a longer, decisive campaign than endless appeasement and future wars.

President Trump promised to end threats—not manage them. Operation Epic Fury is delivering. Stay the course.

BEZEN, BEZEN!” (HIT THEM, HIT THEM!): Iranians Cheer from Rooftops as the Regime Crumbles

🇺🇸🇮🇷 “BEZEN, BEZEN!” (HIT THEM, HIT THEM!): Iranians Cheer from Rooftops as the Regime Crumbles 🦅🔥

In a stunning display of “liberation in real-time,” viral footage is emerging from across Iran showing citizens gathered on their rooftops—not in fear, but in celebration. As U.S. and Israeli precision strikes light up the night sky over Tehran and beyond, the very people the regime claims to represent are cheering for its destruction.

The video captures a moment of pure, unfiltered joy that mainstream media rarely shows. Instead of running for shelters, Iranians are pointing at the sky, laughing, and urging the coalition forces to keep going.

In the clip, one person can be heard reassuring their friend, “Baba natars, natars!” (Man, don’t be afraid!). There is a profound sense of security because the people know that President Trump and the coalition are targeting the IRGC’s “War Machine,” not the Iranian citizens.

The excitement reaches a fever pitch as they watch the regime’s hardware get neutralized. “Bezen, bezen!” (Hit them, hit them!) they shout as explosions rock the horizon. For these families, the “shock and awe” isn’t a threat—it’s the sound of a rescue mission.

Iran Hammers Key U.S. Air Base in Kuwait – Another Blow in Escalating Conflict

Iran Hammers Key U.S. Air Base in Kuwait – Another Blow in Escalating Conflict

Tehran has struck again. Fresh Iranian missile and drone attacks targeted Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait overnight into March 5, 2026 – a critical hub for American air operations across the Gulf.

Nighttime footage shows massive explosions and raging fires lighting up the base, with eyewitness videos and Al Jazeera clips confirming a projectile detonation near U.S. facilities.

This latest hit follows repeated Iranian barrages since early March, when satellite imagery already revealed collapsed roofs, damaged structures, and at least four confirmed impact sites – including a fuel depot sending up thick black smoke plumes visible from space.

The base, home to the U.S. 386th Air Expeditionary Wing and Kuwaiti air forces, has taken serious punishment. Prior strikes claimed American lives – six service members killed in a drone attack on a lightly protected ops center – exposing glaring defensive vulnerabilities as Iran’s arsenal continues to outpace interceptor replenishment.

With the U.S.-Israel campaign against Iranian nuclear sites now in its second week, Tehran shows no sign of backing down. Gulf allies feel the heat, U.S. forces absorb the blows, and the region edges closer to wider war.

America’s enemies smell blood. Time to hit back harder.

HOW DID PERSIA “BECOME” IRAN? THE STORY MOST PEOPLE NEVER HEARD

HOW DID PERSIA “BECOME” IRAN? THE STORY MOST PEOPLE NEVER HEARD

For thousands of years the world knew this land by one name: Persia.

It was the empire of Cyrus the Great, Darius, and Xerxes — a civilization so powerful it once ruled from the Mediterranean to India. Persia built roads, legal systems, massive cities, and one of the first true global empires in history.

So what happened?

How did Persia suddenly become “Iran”?

And why do some Western leaders still speak about Iran as if its downfall was written in prophecy centuries ago?

The answer is a story of identity, politics, religion, and global power.

🔥 THE EMPIRE THAT SHAPED THE WORLD

Long before Rome dominated Europe, Persia was already a superpower.

In 550 BC, Cyrus the Great founded the Achaemenid Empire, creating the largest empire the world had ever seen at that time.

Persia controlled:
• Egypt
• Babylon
• Parts of Greece
• Central Asia
• The Middle East

What made Persia unique was its tolerance of different cultures and religions. Cyrus even allowed the Jews to return to Jerusalem after the Babylonian exile — a decision still remembered in biblical history.

For centuries, Persia remained one of the most influential civilizations on Earth.

But empires rise… and eventually they fall.

⚔️ WHEN PERSIA STARTED TO CHANGE

Persia faced waves of conquest over the centuries.

First came Alexander the Great, who defeated the Persian Empire in 330 BC.

Later came:
• Arab Islamic conquests in the 7th century
• Mongol invasions in the 1200s
• Various regional dynasties fighting for control

Despite all this, the Persian culture and identity survived.

Even under Islamic rule, the people still spoke Persian, wrote Persian poetry, and maintained their ancient heritage.

Persia was wounded many times… but it never disappeared.

🧭 THE MOMENT “PERSIA” BECAME “IRAN”

The name Iran was not actually new.

For centuries, Persians themselves had used the word “Iran”, which comes from the ancient phrase “Aryanam” — meaning “Land of the Aryans.”

But the outside world continued to call the country Persia, mostly because Greek historians had popularized the name.

That changed in 1935.

Iran’s ruler at the time, Reza Shah Pahlavi, officially asked foreign governments to stop using the name Persia and start calling the country Iran.

Why?

Several reasons:
• He wanted to modernize the country
• He wanted to emphasize national identity
• He wanted Iran to be seen as a modern state rather than an ancient empire

From that moment on, the international community adopted the name Iran.

Persia didn’t disappear.

It simply became the historical name of a civilization that evolved into the modern Iranian state.

🛢️ WHERE THE UNITED STATES ENTERED THE STORY

Iran’s relationship with the United States became complicated in the 20th century, especially because of oil and geopolitics.

In 1953, the U.S. and Britain supported a coup that removed Iran’s elected prime minister after he tried to nationalize the country’s oil industry.

The Shah — a pro-Western monarch — was restored to power.

For decades Iran remained a key American ally in the Middle East.

But everything changed in 1979.

The Iranian Revolution overthrew the Shah and replaced him with an Islamic government led by Ayatollah Khomeini.

The new regime became deeply hostile toward the United States.

Since then, tensions between the two countries have defined much of Middle Eastern geopolitics.

📜 WHY SOME AMERICAN LEADERS TALK ABOUT “PROPHECY”

Occasionally, you’ll hear politicians or commentators say that Iran’s fall is “prophesied.”

Where does that idea come from?

It mainly comes from biblical interpretations used by some religious groups in the United States.

Certain passages in the Bible — particularly in the Books of Daniel and Ezekiel — mention ancient Persia as a major power involved in future global conflicts.

Some modern interpreters believe these passages refer symbolically to modern Iran.

Because the United States has a large population of evangelical Christians, these interpretations sometimes influence political rhetoric.

However, it’s important to understand that these are religious interpretations, not official government policy or confirmed predictions of the future.

Many scholars disagree on what those texts actually mean.

Still, the idea that Persia (modern Iran) plays a role in future global events continues to appear in political conversations.

🌍 THE REALITY TODAY

Modern Iran is both ancient and modern at the same time.

It carries:
• A civilization more than 2,500 years old
• A powerful cultural identity rooted in Persian history
• A modern political system shaped by revolution and geopolitics

So when people ask “What happened to Persia?”

The real answer is simple.

Persia never truly disappeared.

It evolved.

And today, the legacy of that ancient empire still shapes the country we now call Iran.

History didn’t erase Persia.

It renamed it.
