HH INTENSIFIES CALLS FOR MORE FOOD PRODUCTION

HH INTENSIFIES CALLS FOR MORE FOOD PRODUCTION

President Hakainde Hichilema writes …

Fellow citizens.

Today, with wife Mutinta, we launched and witnessed the harvesting of our maize at our Ibamba farm in Namwala district, Southern Province.

We made a commitment to continue being part of the solution towards increased food security in the country.

Most of this land was previously used as cattle ranches but is now also being utilised for crop production.

With the unpredictable weather patterns due to climate change, it is important that we invest in alternative farming activities such as irrigation agriculture.

Our target is to reach levels where, as a country, we can be food secure for at least 3 years, even with drought situations like we experienced last season.

We keep urging citizens to priorise food security at household levels before considering selling the surplus.

As we are harvesting maize now, we have equally planted wheat for this season.

Eaten today! Thank the farmer! Let’s be food producers and not only consumers.

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA TOASTS TO CEC’S $1 BILLION MILESTONE

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA TOASTS TO CEC’S $1 BILLION MILESTONE

President Hakainde Hichilema was today represented by Mines Minister Paul Kabuswe in Kitwe at the ringing of the traditional bell, as LuSE officially celebrated Copperbelt Energy Corporation’s milestone of becoming the first listed company to be valued at US $1 billion.

Commerce Minister Chipoka Mulenga rang the bell of the Lusaka Securities Exchange (LuSE) on the sidelines of the Copperbelt Agricultural Mining Industrial Networking Expo in Kitwe, as investors, customers, regulators, employees, and other stakeholders toasted to the landmark achievement.

“Let us applaud what CEC has done – I am sure you can see this is a Zambian company, and it’s the Zambians who are running it. Part of the US $1 billion is due to what is happening in the mining sector,” Mr. Kabuswe said.

CEC Acting Chief Executive Officer Mutale Mukuka thanked investors, employees, customers, and other key actors for buying into the company’s vision, which has seen its value increase exponentially at a time when the country faces an acute power deficit.

As the biggest independent power utility in Zambia, which also owns the only transmission line that connects the Democratic Republic of Congo and Southern Africa, CEC has been instrumental in maintaining the power balance despite the acute deficit.

“As we ring the bell, we mark not only the market milestone but, more importantly, we believe this is a powerful symbol of our journey that has shaped the business by its vision, resilience, and the strong partnerships that we have had with each of our stakeholders,” Mr. Mukuka said.

“Now that we have crossed this milestone of US $1 billion, this is not the end but shall be the beginning of our actions to continue to build the business into the future, especially now that, as a sector and as a country, we are challenged—we have these power shortages.”

He said attaining a market capitalisation of US $1 billion would help CEC’s ability to fund future projects.

And Mr. Mulenga praised the ingenious manner in which the CEC top leadership has steered the company to reach the US $1 billion valuation.

“CEC is an iconic company that is leading the way for everybody, and we should be very proud as a country and take a leaf from what CEC has done and say that ‘we can do it; we can achieve it,’” Mr. Mulenga said.

ECONOMIST URGES STAKEHOLDERS TO ENSURE FARMERS BENEFIT FROM THEIR MAIZE AMID PROJECTED DROP IN PRICES

ECONOMIST, Dr Lubinda Haabazoka has urged the Government and various stakeholders to ensure  as the prices of maize are projected to drop, the farmers need to make profit off their produce as they were purchasing the inputs at a higher price.

Speaking in an interview, Dr Haabazoka says that there should be a balance between so as not to discourage farmers, not to plant more maize in fear of lower prices the next farming season.

He also adds that with the surplus of the maize the Government should  consider trading with other regional neighbours who had assisted Zambia during the the drought.

Dr Haazoka has further advised the general citizenry to also diversify in terms of the stable food to have food security.

Recently, ZAMSTATS announced that the country is expected to harvest about  3,655, 645 metric tonnes of maize this year as compared to 1.5 million in 2024.

‘Illegal to Mention God’: Cuban Pastor and Wife Detained, Facing 8 Years in Prison

By: CBN News

Cuban authorities are seeking to imprison a pastor and his wife for eight years simply because they invoked their religious beliefs during a military tribunal, according to a religious freedom watchdog group.

Pastor Luis Guillermo Borjas and his wife, Roxana Rojas, were detained last week in a Cuban jail after they were charged with the crimes of disrespect and disobeying the authorities, according to the U.K.-based group Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW).

The couple, who are affiliated with the Assemblies of God denomination which has legal approval to operate in Cuba, initially appeared in court after being summoned for a military tribunal for their son.

Two female Secret Service officers suspended after fighting outside Obama’s home

Two female U.S. Secret Service officers have been suspended after footage showed them fighting outside former President Barack Obama’s Washington, D.C. residence.

Per Fox News, the May 21 incident happened around 2:30 a.m., and the suspended officers were in uniform at the time. In an audio recording that was shared online, one of the female officers is heard requesting for a supervisor to immediately respond to scene before “I whoop this girl’s a**.”

“I need a supervisor out here… immediately before I whoop this girl’s a**,” the female officer is heard saying in the call. Footage of the incident also shows the two female officers seemingly engaging in a shoving contest before their physical altercation breaks up.

Responding to the incident in a statement, a Secret Service spokesperson said that the two female agents in question have been suspended pending the outcome of an investigation.

“The individuals involved were suspended from duty and this matter is the subject of an internal investigation. The Secret Service has a very strict code of conduct for all employees and any behavior that violates that code is unacceptable,” the spokesperson said. “Given this is a personnel matter, we are not in a position to comment further.”

This isn’t the first time the Secret Service has had to investigate the actions of officers stationed at the Obamas’ homes. In November 2024, Face2Face Africa reported that a released memoir claimed that a senior Secret Service agent who was part of Obama’s security detail intentionally violated his duties on multiple occasions while he attempted to establish a romantic relationship with his former girlfriend.

Per ABC News, the book, titled Undercover Heartbreak: a Memoir of Trust and Trauma, was written by the former agent’s girlfriend Koryeah Dwanyen, and released in October 2024.

The memoir makes mention of occasions where the former agent, who is given the pseudonym “Dale”, committed possible security breaches while guarding the Obamas’ Hawaii beachfront home. Dwanyen says that in one instance in 2022, the former agent arranged for her to come over to the beach house while the former president and his family were not around.

The Secret Service ultimately launched an investigation into the former agent’s actions after they became aware of the alleged security breaches.

Elon Musk is leaving the Trump administration after leading effort to slash federal government

By: AP

Elon Musk is leaving his government role as a top adviser to President Donald Trump after spearheading efforts to reduce and overhaul the federal bureaucracy.

His departure, announced Wednesday evening, marks the end of a turbulent chapter that included thousands of layoffs, the evisceration of government agencies and reams of litigation. Despite the upheaval, the billionaire entrepreneur struggled in the unfamiliar environment of Washington, and he accomplished far less than he hoped.

He dramatically reduced his target for cutting spending — from $2 trillion to $1 trillion to $150 billion — and increasingly expressed frustration about resistance to his goals. Sometimes he clashed with other top members of Trump’s administration, who chafed at the newcomer’s efforts to reshape their departments, and he faced fierce political blowback for his efforts.

SARAFINA  DEFENDS TRADEMARKING OF ‘KOPALA QUEEN’  AS PROTECTION OF HER LEGACY

SARAFINA  DEFENDS TRADEMARKING OF ‘KOPALA QUEEN’  AS PROTECTION OF HER LEGACY

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

Copperbelt-based social media personality Sarafina Nthenga has defended her decision to trademark the names Kopala Queen and Ba Kopala Laka, stating it is a move to preserve her legacy and protect what is rightfully hers for her children.

Speaking on Sun FM TV’s Business Snapshot, Ms. Nthenga clarified that the tags Kopala Queen and Ba Kopala Laka originated with her and will be incorporated into her businesses, which include clothing, car hire, and other brands.

Contrary to social media assertions suggesting she had “snatched” the Kopala Queen tagline from Xaven, Ms. Nthenga insisted that her intentions were public and that affected individuals had the opportunity to contest her application with the Patents and Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) before final authentication.

Ms Nthenga has also expressed disappointment over the cyberbullying she has faced, including being misgendered as male, but maintained that her move to trademark the terms was simply to protect her brand and ensure her intellectual property remains within her family’s legacy.

MPALI MADE ME A HOUSEHOLD NAME, I’M A FOOL IF I’M NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THAT – COSMAS NG’ANDWE ON LEAVING MPALI

MPALI MADE ME A HOUSEHOLD NAME, I’M A FOOL IF I’M NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THAT – COSMAS NG’ANDWE ON LEAVING MPALI

Speaking to Edna of ZMB Talks, actor and filmmaker Cosmas Ng’andwe revealed his transition into film 15 years ago.

A tale of working in factories folding tissues in which he faced exploitation from big industry names that used his acting services without pay but acknowledged other people that gave him a spotlight like Frank Sibbuku.

Cosmas Ng’andwe, who left the top Zambian telenovela Mpali officially in July of 2024, responded to his host Edna, who queried if he was still friends with the telenovela’s producer Frank Sibbuku.

He said, “Too much! Why are we supposed to be enemies? Just because Edna, you and I are not working together, it does not mean it’s the end of our… I need you. You need me. We don’t know what the future holds.”

“So I’ve learned so much from him to let him just go,” he added. The filmmaker who declined to state whether he was fired or he left on his own accord did not hide for a second that he missed the show and being on set, further adding, “I was so attached to the show.”

■ In an interview with News Diggers earlier this month the filmmaker reviewed that he was fired and refused the offer to return back on telenovela and further citing a pivot moment in his career when he received 10,000 US dollars.

The filmmaker continued to give praise to the opportunity he had playing Logic in Mpali as he said it facilitated for his movie Mwizukanji to win Best Indigenous Language Southern Africa movie 2025 and for people to want to watch it – showing gratitude for people who paved a way for him, a tradition he embraces.

“So Mpali made me a household name. There’s no office I can walk in where people don’t know me. And if I’m not acknowledging that, then I’m a fool,” said Cosmas Ng’andwe.

Cosmas Ng’andwe who revealed that his drop from Mpali was recieved with skepticism and backlash from many people close to him said he was proud of his individual award similar to what his previous job won, an AMVCA.

Regardless of leaving the telenovela, he still advocates and a firm believer in not burning bridges, highlighting a strong bond with his previous employers, gratitude, and cherishes the opportunity.

Trump appears to set Putin ‘two-week’ deadline on Ukraine

Trump appears to set Putin ‘two-week’ deadline on Ukraine

(BBC) US President Donald Trump has appeared to set a two-week deadline for Vladimir Putin, threatening a different response if the Russian counterpart was still stringing him along.

As the Kremlin escalated its attacks on Ukraine, Trump was asked in the Oval Office on Wednesday if he thought Putin wanted to end the war.

“I can’t tell you that, but I’ll let you know in about two weeks,” Trump told reporters, the latest amid a string of critical public remarks made by Trump about Putin.

Since Sunday, Trump has written multiple posts on social media saying that Putin has gone “absolutely crazy” and is “playing with fire” after Russia intensified its attacks on Ukraine.

The bombardments by Russia are said to have been some of the largest and deadliest attacks since the start of the war, now in its fourth year.

Russian strikes in Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, killed at least 13 people and injured dozens more, including children, over the weekend.

And by Wednesday, the attacks had shown no signs of slowing down.

In Trump’s remarks about the escalation of violence and whether he thinks Putin is serious about ending the war, Trump said: “I’ll let you know in about two weeks.

“Within two weeks. We’re gonna find out whether or not (Putin is) tapping us along or not.

“And if he is, we’ll respond a little bit differently.”

The comments are a sign of Trump’s growing frustration, as the White House’s repeated efforts to negotiate a deal between Russia and Ukraine appear ever more futile.

This includes a recent two-hour phone call between Trump and Putin, after which the US president said the discussions went “very well”.

Putin walked away from the call saying he was ready to work with Ukraine on a “memorandum on a possible future peace agreement”.

That call was one week before Russia launched hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles towards Ukraine’s capital, according to Ukraine’s air force.

And a memorandum has yet to be produced by Russia.

NEW FAZ LEADERSHIP TO END FASHION SAKALA’S ‘FORCED’ ABSENCE: Keith Mweemba Is Working Round The Clock To Bring Harmony & Tranquility To Chipolopolo Set-UP

NEW FAZ LEADERSHIP TO END FASHION SAKALA’S ‘FORCED’ ABSENCE: Keith Mweemba Is Working Round The Clock To Bring Harmony & Tranquility To Chipolopolo Set-UP

FAZ president Keith Mweemba and his Executive Committee are alive to the raging discontentment on the absence of striker Fashion Sakala.

The matter is being addressed expeditiously to the benefit of Zambian football.

In the meantime, one soccer fan posted on Kumba Ntinda and Kateule Ntinda’s page.

URGENT APPEAL TO THE NEW FAZ LEADERSHIP:

Resolve the Fashion Sakala Issue without delay.

The unresolved issue surrounding Fashion Sakala has left fans disappointed, and concerned about why Fashion Sakala is not called

It’s not just about Fashion Sakala. It’s also about transparency. It’s about respect both for the player and the fans. The silence around Sakala’s exclusion has created frustration and division among supporters. Some accuse FAZ of favoritism or politics. Others question the technical judgment of the coaching staff. Either way, the situation is damaging.

I think this is the perfect moment to resolve the issue with Fashion Sakala respectfully, professionally, and publicly. If there are matters to clarify, let them be clarified. If bridges must be built, let them be built.

Zambian fans are calling for Sakala’s return. They want the best team on the pitch. They want unity in the locker room and pride in the jersey. Most importantly, they want to believe that every player is treated fairly, and that national selection is based on merit not politics.

Football is a unifier. But when key figures are sidelined without explanation, unity suffers. It’s time for the new FAZ leadership to resolve Fashion Sakala’s issue quickly and honestly.

Delay only deepens division, let the healing begin, Let the football speak, we do not need drama. We need dialogue, we do not need grudges , we need growth.

Cassie welcomes baby No. 3 with husband Alex Fine

Cassie Ventura is officially a mom of three.

The American singer and her husband, Alex Fine, reportedly welcomed their third child, a baby boy, on May 27, according to E News.

The couple, who have been married since 2019, are also parents to daughters Frankie, 5, and Sunny, 4.

Ventura, 38, and Fine, 32, announced they were expecting a third child together in February with a post on Instagram. The announcement included black and white photographs of Ventura and her growing belly as she posed alongside her daughters.

In March, Ventura confirmed on Instagram that she and Fine were expecting a son.

“You’re hands down the best girl dad and I’m SO excited to see you now become a father to OUR SON!” Ventura wrote in her post at the time.

The birth of Ventura’s third child comes two weeks after she concluded her testimony against former partner Sean “Diddy” Combs, whom she accused of rape and abuse in a civil lawsuit filed in November 2023.

Combs faces five criminal counts: one count of racketeering conspiracy; two counts of s£x trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion; and two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. The trial is ongoing, and he has denied all of the allegations against him.

Cassie once joked about dating Jay-Z

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ former assistant, Capricorn Clark, told jurors during recent testimony that singer Cassie Ventura once jokingly mentioned the idea of dating Jay-Z — a longtime friend and collaborator of Diddy. The comment, according to Clark, was likely made in jest.

Clark took the stand as part of ongoing legal proceedings related to multiple allegations against Combs, including accusations of abuse and misconduct from Cassie, his former longtime partner. Cassie filed a lawsuit in late 2023, accusing Combs of years of physical and emotional abuse, which he has denied.

During cross-examination, Combs’ attorney, Marc Agnifilo, questioned Clark about a conversation she had with Cassie regarding her toxic relationship with Diddy.

“You told Cassie… ‘You should move away from him and date other people,’ right?” Agnifilo asked.“And she said to you that Jay-Z was taken, who would she date?” he continued.Clark confirmed the exchange: “True.”

When pressed further, she reiterated, “She did,” acknowledging that Cassie made the remark during their conversation.

Jay-Z, who has been married to superstar Beyoncé since 2008, has shared a decades-long professional relationship with Diddy. Both moguls were prominent figures in shaping the hip-hop landscape of the late 1990s and early 2000s, often seen together at industry events and collaborating on business ventures.

The brief mention of Jay-Z came at the end of Clark’s testimony, with Combs’ lawyer using the name-drop as his final question before she left the witness stand.

The trial, which continues to unfold, is one of several legal challenges facing Combs amid a wave of allegations from former associates, employees, and partners.

South Africa denies easing Black ownership rules to favor Elon Musk’s Starlink

South Africa’s Communications Minister, Solly Malatsi, has rejected claims that a draft policy relaxing Black ownership requirements for foreign tech firms was crafted to benefit Elon Musk’s Starlink venture.

The minister, according to an AP report, faced questions in Parliament on Tuesday after proposing changes to the current licensing rules, which critics argue could dilute South Africa’s economic empowerment agenda. Malatsi, a member of the Democratic Alliance party, firmly denied that the proposal was designed with Starlink in mind.

“We are not attempting to open a special dispensation for Starlink or any other company or an individual,” Malatsi told lawmakers. “There is no conspiracy on our part with regard to this policy direction.”

Under current legislation, foreign-owned companies must sell 30% of their local subsidiaries to Black South Africans or members of other historically disadvantaged groups to qualify for operating licenses. The proposed amendment would allow companies to meet empowerment criteria through alternative means, such as investment in skills development, job creation, and partnerships with local suppliers.

The timing of the directive has sparked criticism, especially from political opponents. It came just days after President Cyril Ramaphosa met former U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, a meeting that stirred controversy after Trump made unfounded claims that white South African farmers were being systematically killed.

A senior African National Congress (ANC) lawmaker, Khusela Diko, questioned the motivations behind the policy shift, asking whether the country was “bending over backward” to accommodate Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service.

Musk has repeatedly criticized South Africa’s Black ownership laws, claiming on social media that Starlink had been blocked from operating in the country because of his race. South African officials, however, assert that Starlink has not formally applied for a license.

Despite this, the debate has intensified as the Starlink website shows the service is already available in multiple neighboring countries, including Eswatini, Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Kenya, and Madagascar.

Meanwhile, reports indicate the Trump administration lobbied on Starlink’s behalf in several African nations, including Gambia and Lesotho. In one instance, after Trump threatened Lesotho with tariffs, the country issued Starlink a 10-year operating license just a week later.

Industry stakeholders have reacted with cautious optimism. The Association of Communications and Technology (ACT), a prominent industry body, acknowledged the draft policy’s potential to reshape the sector.

“We advocate for smarter, scalable approaches that deliver meaningful impact and restore policy clarity, consistency, and investor confidence,” ACT said in a statement, adding that consistent and transparent implementation would be key.

Malatsi emphasized that the directive was not targeting a single company and said the broader goal was to create space for multiple new entrants into the market, thereby increasing competition. He noted that groundwork on the policy began as far back as September and was not influenced by recent international meetings.

Public feedback will play a crucial role in shaping the final framework. Stakeholders, industry players, and the general public have been given 30 days to submit comments before the policy is finalized.

Namibia takes control: Govt cancels US oil and gas contracts

In a bold move to assert its national sovereignty, the Namibian government has cancelled its oil and gas contracts with the United States, effective immediately.

This decision marks a significant shift towards full state ownership and control of the country’s natural resources, including oil and gas.

The government’s new policy prioritizes state-led development and national interests, ensuring that Namibia benefits directly from its resource wealth.

According to reports, foreign companies will no longer dominate the extraction of Namibia’s natural resources. Instead, the government will take the reins, overseeing the development and management of the sector.

This move is expected to have far-reaching implications for the country’s economy and its relationship with foreign investors.

The decision comes as a strategic effort to boost Namibia’s economic independence and self-determination. By controlling its natural resources, the government aims to maximize the benefits for its citizens and drive economic growth.

This move is also likely to impact the country’s partnership with international companies, such as Chevron, which recently acquired an 80% participating interest in Namibia’s PEL 82 oil block.

The government’s commitment to transparency and accountability will be essential in ensuring that the country’s resources are managed effectively for the benefit of all Namibians.

As the Namibian government embarks on this new path, it will be crucial to monitor the impact of this decision on the country’s economy and its relationships with international partners. Namibia is taking bold steps to assert its sovereignty and control over its natural resources.

Dangote could have been $120 billion richer if he had invested in big tech

Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote could have been $120 billion richer if he had invested the billions of dollars used in building his refinery in big tech, according to the Nigerian government.

The country’s vice president, Kashim Shettima, said that the business magnate could have opted to put his resources into lucrative international companies like Microsoft, Amazon, or Google. He however chose to build his country by investing as much as $19 billion in the Dangote Refinery.

The Dangote Refinery is reportedly the largest single-train facility in the world and Africa’s biggest, and it is Dangote’s most ambitious project helping in Nigeria’s economic transformation.

“I want to celebrate the greatest black man in the last 300 years, who single-handedly established the largest single train refinery in the world,” Shettima said of Dangote at the opening of the Taraba International Investment Summit 2025 in Jalingo last week.

“He [Dangote] started this project in 2007/2008. If he had invested the $19 billion that it took him to set up the Dangote Refinery in Microsoft, in Amazon, in Google, he is going to be worth $120 billion now.”

“But he decided to invest in his own country. Alhaji Aliko Dangote, we are mightily proud of you,” the vice president said.

Even though it delayed for some years, the Dangote Refinery started producing diesel, naphtha, and jet fuel in January last year, with petrol production also beginning in September, the Insider reported.

The refinery is designed to process 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day and this should help reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products, experts say.

Dangote’s net worth surged from $13.9 billion last year to $23.9 billion in 2025, largely due to the inclusion of the Dangote Refinery’s valuation in Forbes’ calculations.

Dangote has been making his money largely from Dangote Cement, one of Africa’s most successful and recognizable brands. In addition to his cement factory, Dangote is also into the production of sugar and until recently, fertilizer and oil refinery.

What is more, he is also into the assembling of cars under the name Dangote Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria Limited (DPAN).

COSMAS NG’ANDWE SAYS IT WAS OFFENSIVE FOR OWAS RAY MWAPE TO INCLUDE PAST AMVCA WINNERS IN HIS CONGRATULATORY POST

COSMAS NG’ANDWE SAYS IT WAS OFFENSIVE FOR OWAS RAY MWAPE TO INCLUDE PAST AMVCA WINNERS IN HIS CONGRATULATORY POST

Filmmaker and actor Cosmas Ng’andwe expressed displeasure in the manner veteran filmmaker Owas Ray Mwape congratulated him after he won an African Magic Viewer’s Choice Award(AMVCA) for his film Mwizukanji earlier this month.

Talking to Edna of ZMB Talks, Cosmas Ng’andwe said the veteran actor’s inclusion of all past Zambian film projects that have won an AMVCA in a post meant to congratulate him was offensive and made with wrong timing.

“Why now? When we are still celebrating something big. Look, the timing, right? For me, I find this a bit offensive because you are basically telling me that don’t celebrate you are not the first one to win. Let me give you a list of people that have won,”  Cosmas Ng’andwe vented in displeasure.

The filmmaker, who said he, like everyone else, celebrated past winners when they won and respects other people’s work, including Mr. Owas Ray Mwape’s work and accolades – said the veteran filmmaker could have waited for dust to settle before making the post which listed past winner.

He further added that the veteran filmmaker who he regards as an elder (abafyashi) shared a similar message in a “NAMA” group which said in part, “As we said, dear Nama, as you celebrate this… remember to acknowledge the people that also… to re-celebrate the people.”

“So that what? So that I should feel less of a winner? No. I was very offended, and I genuinely, honestly, don’t care,” said Cosmas Ng’andwe.

The filmmaker who says he faces his struggles alone and the congratulatory message didn’t sit well with him shared his strong conviction, “Even without the support of people who have been before us, we are going to penetrate.”

Owas Ray Mwape’s remarks have sparked conversation about timing and recognition in the film industry, with Cosmas Ng’andwe feeling overshadowed.

Despite the filmmaker living by his late director’s words, “If the old are not doing what is right, let them be taught by us the young ones,” still, the focus remains on unity and celebrating Zambia’s continued success at the AMVCAs.

ICASA probes Starlink for alleged illegal operations in South Africa

ICASA probes Starlink for alleged illegal operations in South Africa

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has launched an investigation into whether SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet service is being used illegally in the country.

The probe follows allegations that Starlink equipment is circulating through grey market channels, bypassing South Africa’s strict licensing requirements.

ICASA confirmed it has formally contacted SpaceX for clarification and is awaiting a response. The regulator has deployed inspection teams for on-the-ground verifications and is coordinating with other state entities. “Should the investigation reveal any breaches of regulatory or legislative frameworks, ICASA will take appropriate enforcement action,” the authority stated, hinting at a possible complaint to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The investigation was sparked by claims, including those from MP Nhlamulo Ndhlela, that Starlink’s services are being accessed via resellers, despite the company lacking an operating license in South Africa.

Local regulations require telecom providers to allocate 30% equity to historically disadvantaged groups, a condition Starlink has not met. Meanwhile, Starlink operates legally in several neighboring countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, and Zambia.

ICASA’s move underscores South Africa’s commitment to enforcing its telecommunications regulations, even as demand for high-speed internet grows. The outcome of the investigation could set a precedent for how global satellite providers navigate the country’s regulatory landscape.

EFF MPs face disciplinary action after Parliament disruption

EFF MPs face disciplinary action after Parliament disruption

Several Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MPs face disciplinary action after clashing with National Assembly Deputy Speaker Annelie Lotriet during a chaotic session with President Cyril Ramaphosa yesterday.

The EFF, led by Julius Malema, disrupted proceedings by challenging Lotriet’s rulings and questioning Ramaphosa’s bodyguards in the Chamber, leading to their eviction from both physical and virtual platforms.

Lotriet announced she would refer the MPs’ conduct to Speaker Thoko Didiza for a potential hearing, citing contempt for parliamentary rules.

The matter may escalate to the Powers and Privileges Committee. The EFF defended their actions, accusing the ANC of protecting Ramaphosa and vowing to continue their fight.

This is not the first clash for the EFF, who faced suspensions in 2023 and hearings in 2022 for similar disruptions.

The outcome of this disciplinary process could further strain tensions in South Africa’s legislature.

Manyi denies MK Party exit rumors after Chief Whip removal

Manyi denies MK Party exit rumors after Chief Whip removal

Mzwanele Manyi has firmly dismissed speculation that he will leave the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party following his removal as Chief Whip of Parliament.

In a statement Manyi declared, “I’m not going anywhere,” reaffirming his commitment to the party and his role as a Member of Parliament.

The announcement comes a day after National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza confirmed Manyi’s replacement by former Johannesburg council speaker Colleen Makhubele on May 27.

Manyi’s removal as Chief Whip, after serving since August 2024, has sparked rumors of internal discord within the MK Party. Sources suggest his removal may stem from a combination of factors, including perceptions of an ineffective leadership style and internal tensions. Reports from Mail & Guardian earlier this year described Manyi as “arrogant” and “out of his depth,” with some party members accusing him of failing to unify the caucus or counter opposition voices like the EFF’s Julius Malema. An alleged physical altercation with party deputy president John Hlophe during a caucus meeting also fueled narratives of disarray.

Despite these challenges, Manyi remains defiant, emphasizing his loyalty to the MK Party. His public rebuttal aims to quash speculation of a defection, signaling his intent to continue contributing to the party’s parliamentary efforts.

As the MK Party navigates ongoing leadership changes Manyi being the second Chief Whip removed since August 2024 attention now turns to whether Makhubele’s appointment can stabilize the party’s volatile internal dynamics.

US Freezes Student and Exchange Visitor Visa Interviews Amid New Social Media Vetting

The Trump administration has put a sudden halt to student visa interviews at U.S. embassies around the world, as it prepares to introduce a sweeping new policy that will involve screening the social media of all foreign student applicants.

US Freezes New Student and Exchange Visitor Visa Interviews
A cable sent out by the State Department on Tuesday instructed U.S. consulates to stop adding new visa appointment slots for student and exchange visitors — those applying under F, M, and J visa categories — until further notice. Officials say detailed guidance will follow in the coming days.

The move could create major delays in visa processing and deal a serious blow to U.S. colleges and universities that depend on international students for both financial and academic contributions.

Expanded Social Media Screening Underway
In the internal message, the department explained that it’s reviewing how it handles visa applications and plans to roll out stricter rules that include “expanded social media vetting” for all student and exchange visitors.

This step builds on a previous policy introduced in March, which focused mainly on students involved in pro-Palestinian protests. At the time, consular officers were ordered to check students’ social media for signs of support for terrorism — a broad criterion that some believed included expressions of solidarity with the Palestinian cause. Officers were told to save screenshots of any “potentially derogatory” content, even if it was deleted later.

Keyshawn Johnson files $1 million lawsuit against NFL agent over finder’s fees

Former NFL wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson has filed a lawsuit against sports agent Chris Ellison, accusing him of failing to pay nearly $1 million allegedly owed from a long-standing agreement to refer players to Ellison for representation.

According to the suit, filed last week in Los Angeles and obtained by TMZ Sports, Johnson claims he and Ellison struck a deal approximately ten years ago. Under the alleged agreement, Johnson would direct NFL prospects toward Ellison in exchange for a share of the commissions Ellison earned from their contracts. Specifically, Johnson says he was entitled to one-third of Ellison’s standard three percent agent fee on the players’ salaries.

Johnson asserts that Ellison has not honored the deal in at least four instances, citing players he says he referred—San Francisco 49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir, Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson, Atlanta Falcons cornerback Mike Hughes, and Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs.

The lawsuit states Ellison owes him a total of $962,335 from commissions linked to those players. Johnson is now seeking full repayment through the court.

Ellison, however, has denied the allegations. Speaking to TMZ Sports, he refuted all claims made by Johnson in the suit and did not elaborate further on his defense.

Johnson, who played in the NFL from 1996 to 2006 and won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has remained active in football through media work and mentorship, guiding both high school and college athletes in their careers.

Iran has executed a man convicted of spying for Israel, according to a report by state media

Iran has executed a man convicted of spying for Israel, according to a report by state media.

The man, identified as Pedram Madani, was accused of travelling to Israel and meeting with Mossad officers to pass on classified information about locations where infrastructure equipment was installed, Iran’s official IRNA news agency reported.

The report stated that Madani received payments in foreign currency and cryptocurrency in exchange for the intelligence. It also claimed he met Mossad officers at Israel’s embassy in Belgium.

Madani was executed after Iran’s Supreme Court upheld a death sentence handed down by a lower court. Israel’s security agency has not issued a statement in response.

Madani had recently been named by Human Rights Watch as a prisoner at “imminent risk of execution.” The organisation condemned what it described as a “horrific execution spree” by Iranian authorities.

According to the Oslo-based group, Iran has carried out at least 478 executions so far in 2025 — a 75 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

In April, Iran also executed Mohsen Langarneshin, another man convicted of collaborating with Mossad and of involvement in the 2022 assassination of a Revolutionary Guard colonel in Tehran.

Trump claims Canada is considering becoming 51st USA state in exchange for free Golden Dome protection

U.S. leader, Donald Trump, has claimed that Canada is considering becoming the 51st state of the United States in exchange for free inclusion in his proposed Golden Dome missile defence system.

Trump made the claim on his TruthSocial platform shortly after King Charles addressed the opening of Canada’s parliament, where the monarch acknowledged the country’s “unprecedented challenges” and emphasised the government’s commitment to protecting Canada’s sovereignty.

“I told Canada, which very much wants to be part of our fabulous Golden Dome System, that it will cost $61 billion dollars if they remain a separate, but unequal, nation, but will cost zero dollars if they become our cherished 51st State. They are considering the offer!” Trump wrote, providing no evidence to support his assertion.

Canada’s Prime Minister, Mark Carney, has consistently rejected Trump’s proposals.

In a statement to CTV News, the prime minister’s office reaffirmed Canada’s position: “The prime minister has been clear at every opportunity, including in his conversations with President Trump, that Canada is an independent, sovereign nation, and it will remain one.”

Last week, Trump unveiled his Golden Dome plan—a missile defence system designed to protect the U.S. from ballistic, hypersonic, and even space-based missile threats. He claimed the architecture for the system was finalised and that it would deploy advanced technologies across land, sea, and space, including satellite-based interceptors. He projected the system would be fully operational by January 2029 and could cost as much as $500 billion.

While Trump suggested Canada’s participation in the Golden Dome would depend on its statehood, Canada has expressed interest in broader security cooperation. The prime minister’s office confirmed that Carney’s government, empowered by a recent election victory, is negotiating a comprehensive new security and economic relationship with the United States. These talks include strengthening the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD) and related initiatives like the Golden Dome.

King Charles, addressing Canada’s parliament before Trump’s remarks, delivered pointed comments emphasising Canada’s sovereignty and independence. While acknowledging efforts to redefine the country’s economic and security ties with the U.S. based on “mutual respect,” he also stressed that Canada is seeking to deepen partnerships with reliable allies around the world.

Although the King’s speech is written by the Canadian government, Charles added personal remarks reinforcing Canada’s commitment to self-determination—statements widely interpreted as a subtle response to Trump’s overtures.

Russia threatens Trump with World War 3 after he criticised Putin

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has issued a stark warning to U.S. President Donald Trump, invoking the threat of World War III following Trump’s criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The warning came after Trump stated he would “absolutely” consider new sanctions against Moscow, amid continued missile and drone attacks in Ukraine that have left many dead.

In a post on X, Medvedev wrote:
“Regarding Trump’s words about Putin ‘playing with fire’ and ‘really bad things’ happening to Russia — I only know of one REALLY BAD thing: WWIII. I hope Trump understands this!”

Medvedev served as Russia’s president from 2008 to 2012 and as prime minister from 2012 to 2020.

Trump’s frustration over his inability to end the war, which he once claimed he could resolve within 24 hours, intensified over the weekend following a Russian drone strike that killed at least 13 people in Ukraine.

Diplomatic efforts to end the war have ramped up in recent weeks, but Putin has been accused of stalling peace negotiations.

Speaking on Tuesday, Trump warned of “serious consequences,” saying: “What Vladimir Putin doesn’t realise is that if it weren’t for me, lots of really bad things would have already happened to Russia — and I mean REALLY BAD. He’s playing with fire!”

While Trump did not elaborate on the nature of the consequences, The Wall Street Journal and CNN reported that new U.S. sanctions on Russia could be announced as early as this week. On Sunday, Trump told reporters he was “absolutely” considering the move.

Russia, which invaded Ukraine in February 2022, has yet to respond directly to Trump’s latest comments. However, earlier statements from Moscow blamed Ukraine for escalating tensions and claimed it was responding to increased attacks on Russian civilians.

Russian authorities reported intercepting nearly 150 Ukrainian drones in recent days, including 33 that were heading toward Moscow.

Elon Musk slams Trump’s spending bill for ‘undermining’ DOGE

Musk’s friendship with U.S. President Donald Trump has taken a hit after the tech billionaire blasted the White House for “undermining” him and treating DOGE like “whipping boys.”

The billionaire Tesla CEO spoke to the press before launching a SpaceX Starship into the stratosphere on Tuesday night, May 27, and unleashed on Trump’s $3.8 trillion spending bill.

“It undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing,” Musk bluntly told CBS.

“I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decreases it.”

Musk, who spoke to multiple outlets about the White House betrayal, went on to decry the treatment he and his DOGE henchmen had received.

“DOGE is just becoming the whipping boy for everything,” he told the Washington Post.

“Something bad would happen anywhere, and we would get blamed for it even if we had nothing to do with it.”

Musk, who helped Trump win the election, had great presence in the White House for the first several months of Trump’s second term.

However, his arrival ruffled feathers both within the political establishment and among governmental employees, particularly when he set about mercilessly slashing jobs in an effort to root out wasteful spending.

This led to protests at Tesla showrooms and people burning Teslas. Subsequently, Tesla stock prices nosedived and reports emerged that the board was seriously considering replacing Musk.

“I think I probably did spend a bit too much time on politics,” Musk admitted in a separate interview with ARS Technica.

“It’s not like I left the companies. It was just relative time allocation that probably was a little too high on the government side, and I’ve reduced that significantly in recent weeks.”

Musk then took aim at Trump by criticising the President’s “Big, Beautiful Bill.”

“I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful, but I don’t know if it can be both,” he said. “My personal opinion.”

The bill is estimated to add another $3.8 trillion to the national debt which currently stands at a monstrous $36 trillion.

“The federal bureaucracy situation is much worse than I realized,” he said.

“I thought there were problems, but it sure is an uphill battle trying to improve things in D.C., to say the least.”

The “Big Beautiful Bill” is intended to be an encompassing piece of legislation to allow Trump to move forward with much of his agenda, with policies ranging from tax cuts to immigration.

Netanyahu has announced that the Hamas Gaza chief, Mohammad Sinwar has been eliminated

Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that the Hamas Gaza chief, Mohammad Sinwar, has been eliminated.

Sinwar was one of Israel’s most wanted and the younger brother of the militant group’s former leader, Yahya Sinwar, who was killed in October 2024.

Speaking to parliament this afternoon, Netanyahu said: ‘We have eliminated Mohammed Deif, Yahya Sinwar, and Mohammed Sinwar’.

Israeli media had reported that Sinwar, nicknamed The Shadow, was targeted in Israeli air strikes in southern Gaza earlier this month.

According to reports, Sinwar was killed on May 13 after the IDF dropped a large number of bombs on a tunnel hideout under a hospital in Gaza.

Multiple airstrikes pounded the European hospital in southern Gaza where the IDF claimed it had found ‘Hamas terrorists in a command and control centre’ underground.

Footage showed huge clouds of smoke billowing out of the facility in Khan Younis following one of the biggest strikes on the Strip in weeks.

It was unclear how many civilians were killed, but medics said it was a ‘catastrophe’ with bodies left trapped under the rubble.

Arab media also reported earlier this month that the body of Sinwar was found in the ruins of a Hamas tunnel complex in Khan Younis, five days after it was bombed by the IDF.

Sources revealed it is also believed Sinwar had broken strict Hamas protocol by meeting with ten other Hamas kingpins.

Sinwar has been the leader of Hamas since his brother was assassinated, and therefore, in control of the remaining 58 Israeli hostages, around 21 of which are believed to be alive.

His death comes seven months after former Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was killed by a single gunshot to his head after an hour-long firefight between trainee soldiers on a routine operation in the Rafah area of the Gaza Strip.

Yahya, known as the architect of the October 7 massacre, was killed after being hunted by intelligence services and the Israeli Defence Forces for over a year.

Shocking surveillance footage has revealed the horrifying moment Tory Lanez was st@bbed 14 times

Shocking surveillance footage has revealed the horrifying moment Tory Lanez was st@bbed 14 times inside a California prison.

The 32-year-old Canadian rapper, currently serving a 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion nearly five years ago, was brutally ambushed by another inmate on May 12 at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi.

In the 39-second video obtained by The Shade Room, Lanez is seen stepping out of a cell when the attacker, identified by the outlet as Santino Casio, attacks him.

As Lanez collapses to the floor, Casio is seen towering over the rapper, repeatedly jabbing down as Lanez kicks and makes a desperate attempt to escape.

Luckily for him, Lanez manages to break away and flee down the stairs, disappearing from the camera’s view just before the clip ends.

Shocking images also show the blood-soaked scene that followed.

Shortly after Monday’s attack, Lanez’s team released a statement confirming, ‘Tory was stabbed 14 times — including 7 wounds to his back, 4 to his torso, 2 to the back of his head, and 1 to the left side of his face.’

They added that he ‘is now breathing on his own’ after ‘both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus.’

Reps for Lanez said that ‘despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through.

‘He also wants to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support.’

Vladimir Putin has issued a list of conditions for ending the war in Ukraine

Russian President, Vladimir Putin has issued a list of conditions for ending the war in Ukraine, including a written pledge from Western leaders to halt NATO’s eastward expansion and a partial lifting of sanctions on Russia, according to three Russian sources familiar with ongoing negotiations.

U.S. President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly vowed to end the conflict—the deadliest in Europe since World War II—has recently grown frustrated with Putin. On Tuesday, Trump warned that the Russian leader was “playing with fire” by refusing to engage in ceasefire talks, despite Russian gains on the battlefield.

According to the sources, following a two-hour phone conversation with Trump last week, Putin agreed to work on a memorandum with Ukraine outlining the framework for a potential peace agreement, including a timeline for a ceasefire. Russia is reportedly drafting its version of the document but has not given a timeframe for completion.

Western and Ukrainian officials have accused Moscow of stalling negotiations while continuing its military offensive in eastern Ukraine.

“Putin is ready to make peace—but not at any price,” said a senior Russian source close to the Kremlin, who requested anonymity.

According to the sources, Russia’s demands include:

1.A written commitment by Western powers not to expand NATO to include Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, or other former Soviet states.

2.Ukrainian neutrality.

3.Lifting of certain Western sanctions.

4.Resolution of the issue of frozen Russian sovereign assets.

5.Guarantees for the protection of Russian-speaking populations in Ukraine.

One source said that if Putin fails to secure peace on his terms, he will attempt to demonstrate to Ukraine and European allies that further military action would result in even greater costs for them.

Neither the Kremlin nor Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office responded to the demands. NATO also declined to comment, though the alliance has previously stated that it will not abandon its “open door” policy for new members in response to Russian demands.

Putin launched the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, following years of tension and a simmering conflict in eastern Ukraine. As of now, Russia controls just under 20% of Ukrainian territory, including large parts of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions, in addition to Crimea, which it annexed in 2014.

Though Russia has made territorial gains over the past year, both sides continue to suffer heavy losses, and the economic toll on Russia is mounting. Reuters previously reported Putin’s growing concern over labor shortages, rising inflation, and declining oil revenues, which are key to Russia’s economy.

A second source said Putin has become increasingly inflexible on territorial issues and is now demanding full control of the four eastern regions claimed by Russia.“Putin has toughened his position,” the source noted.

Putin has long viewed NATO’s expansion as a threat to Russian security. He has repeatedly claimed that the West broke verbal promises made at the end of the Cold War to limit NATO’s reach.

In 2008, NATO declared Ukraine and Georgia would eventually become members. Ukraine later enshrined its ambition to join NATO and the European Union in its constitution in 2019.

In a draft agreement proposed in 2021, Moscow sought written guarantees from NATO to halt further expansion, including Ukrainian accession. Western officials rejected the proposal, arguing that Russia could not dictate NATO policy.

Putin reportedly wants the current peace terms in writing, believing that verbal assurances in the 1990s—such as those allegedly made by then-U.S. Secretary of State James Baker to Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev—were misleading and ultimately disregarded.

Russia’s invasion has had significant geopolitical consequences. Finland joined NATO in 2023, followed by Sweden in 2024, citing security concerns.

Western leaders have repeatedly warned that a Russian victory in Ukraine could embolden Moscow to attack NATO members, potentially sparking a wider war. Moscow has dismissed such warnings as scaremongering, while simultaneously cautioning that the conflict could escalate into a broader confrontation if not resolved.

Meanwhile, President Trump has warned that failure to reach a deal could result in fresh sanctions. On social media, he recently accused Putin of going “absolutely CRAZY” following a large-scale aerial attack on Ukraine.

Meghan Markle is opening up about her complicated relationship with money.

Meghan Markle is opening up about her complicated relationship with money.

In a rare and candid moment on her Confessions of a Female Founder podcast, the Duchess of Sussex spoke with Spanx founder Sara Blakely about the guilt and scarcity mindset that often accompany financial success, especially for women.

“There’s a lot of guilt mentality surrounding having a lot,” Markle said. “And at the same time, there’s a scarcity mindset. It’s easy to attach to the idea of, like, ‘I’ll never have enough.’”

The former Suits actress admitted she’s working toward developing a healthier approach to money but acknowledged how ingrained the discomfort is — particularly among women. “Women especially are taught to not even talk about [money],” she noted.

Despite being one of the most recognizable couples in the world, Meghan and her husband Prince Harry have not been immune to public scrutiny over their wealth. The couple, who reside in a $14 million mansion in Montecito, California, reportedly have a combined net worth of $60 million. In addition, Prince Harry and his brother Prince William are believed to have inherited over $10 million each from Queen Elizabeth II.

Their luxurious lifestyle — from flying on private jets to staying in multimillion-dollar homes owned by celebrity friends — has frequently made headlines. Critics have accused them of relying on their connections rather than their own finances, with one insider claiming, “It’s always other people’s money.”

Still, Markle has been building her own entrepreneurial path. She spoke about the “incredibly lonely” but “liberating” process of launching solo ventures before eventually partnering with Netflix for her lifestyle brand As Ever. That collaboration, she said, marked a “U-turn moment” in her business journey.

Since then, she’s rolled out a number of projects, including a Netflix series titled With Love, Meghan, which debuted in March. In April, she launched her first line of As Ever products and also began streaming her podcast through Lemonada Media.

Markle and Prince Harry share two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, and have continued to navigate life away from royal duties while carving out their own space in media and business.

The Duchess’s comments offer a glimpse into the internal challenges of balancing public wealth with private insecurities — a topic that resonates beyond royalty.

Brad Pitt has finally spoken out about finalising his long-running divorce from Angelina Jolie

Brad Pitt has finally spoken out about finalising his long-running divorce from Angelina Jolie, marking the end of one of Hollywood’s most high-profile splits.

In a recent interview with GQ, the actor was asked if he felt any relief when their divorce was legally settled in December 2024, more than eight years after Jolie initially filed.

“No, I don’t think it was that major of a thing,” Pitt said casually. “Just something coming to fruition. Legally.”

The comment comes six months after Pitt and Jolie officially ended the legal process of their divorce, which began in 2016 when Jolie filed to dissolve their marriage. The couple, who were declared legally single in 2019, share six children together.

At the time of the settlement, Jolie’s attorney stated, “More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family. This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”

According to court documents, Jolie waived any right to receive spousal support from Pitt permanently.

Despite their legal closure, the emotional distance between Pitt and his children remains wide. The couple’s six children — Maddox (23), Pax (21), Zahara (20), Shiloh (19), and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne — are reportedly not in contact with their father. Several of them have even dropped his last name.

Last year, reports emerged that Shiloh had legally removed “Pitt” from her surname, a decision that deeply affected the actor. “He’s never felt more joy than when she was born,” a source said at the time. “He always wanted a daughter.”

Another source added, “The reminders that he’s lost his children is, of course, not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad.”

The strained relationship between Pitt and his children reportedly stems from a 2016 incident aboard a private jet, during which he was accused of being verbally abusive and physical. His son Pax once referred to Pitt as a “world-class a–hole” in a 2020 Father’s Day post, claiming his younger siblings were fearful in his presence.

While the legal divorce is behind them, the emotional wounds in the Jolie-Pitt family remain raw, with reconciliation appearing unlikely in the near future.

Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have been charged with r@pe and other offences in the UK

Controversial influner, Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have been charged with r@pe and other offences in the UK.

The brothers have been charged with a string of offences including r@pe, human trafficking, controlling prost!tution, and actual bodily harm against three women, according to Mail Online.

Andrew, 38, faces 10 charges connected to three alleged victims including r@pe, actual bodily harm, human trafficking, and controlling prost!tution for gain.

Meanwhile, Tristan, 36, faces 11 charges connected to one alleged victim including r@pe, actual bodily harm, and human trafficking.

An international arrest warrant was issued by Bedfordshire Police for the siblings over allegations dating back to between 2012 and 2015, which they deny.

The charges were authorised in January 2024 but full details have only been released now as the CPS wanted to clarify the position of the proceedings.

The brothers are already facing prosecution in Romania over allegations of trafficking minors, s£xual intercourse with a minor and money laundering, which must be settled before they can be extradited to the UK, the CPS said.

A separate case against them, in which they are accused of human trafficking and forming a criminal gang to s£xually exploit women, has been sent back to prosecutors.

A CPS spokesman said: ‘We can confirm that we have authorised charges against Andrew and Tristan Tate for offences including rape, human trafficking, controlling prostitution, and actual bodily harm against three women.

‘These charging decisions followed receipt of a file of evidence from Bedfordshire Police.

‘A European Arrest Warrant was issued in England in 2024, and as a result the Romanian courts ordered the extradition to the UK of Andrew and Tristan Tate.

‘However, the domestic criminal matters in Romania must be settled first.

‘The Crown Prosecution Service reminds everyone that criminal proceedings are active, and the defendants have the right to a fair trial.

‘It is extremely important that there be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.’

The women are being represented by lawyer Matt Jury, who said: ‘We welcome the clarity from the Crown Prosecution Service that our authorities are working to ensure the Tates face justice here in the UK – they cannot be allowed to escape extradition.

‘At the same time, we ask once more that CPS admit its mistake in failing to prosecute Tate when he lived in the UK and finally charge him for the rape and assault of the other three women, our clients, who originally filed criminal complaints against him as long ago as 2014 but were failed by the system. They deserve justice, too.’

Their allegations were subject to a Hertfordshire Police investigation, which was closed in 2019.

Diddy loses mistrial bid in s333x trafficking trial

Sean “Diddy” Combs has lost a bid for a mistrial in his s£x-trafficking case after his lawyers argued that prosecutors were improperly trying to suggest that the hip-hop mogul had evidence tied to an alleged arson incident destroyed.

Combs, 55, has pleaded not guilty to five counts including racketeering and s£x trafficking.

Last week, Scott Mescudi – the rapper known as Kid Cudi – testified that his car was set on fire in 2012, shortly after Combs learned that Mescudi had a romantic relationship with Combs’ on-and-off girlfriend, Casandra Ventura.

Alexandra Shapiro, a lawyer for Combs, said on Wednesday outside the jurors’ presence that prosecutors’ questions to a Los Angeles arson investigator who probed the fire implied that Combs had a role in the destruction of fingerprint evidence.

U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian swiftly denied Shapiro’s request for a mistrial.

“There was absolutely no testimony from the witness that was prejudicial in any way, shape or form,” Subramanian said.

The judge told jurors that arson investigator Lance Jimenez’s testimony about the destruction of fingerprints was not relevant to the case and instructed them to disregard it.

Testimony in Combs’ trial in Manhattan federal court is in its third week. Prosecutors say Combs, the founder of Bad Boy Records, coerced women, including Ventura, over two decades to take part in days-long, drug-fueled sexual performances with male sex workers known as “Freak Offs.”

They say the alleged arson of Mescudi’s car was one of several violent or illegal acts that Combs or his associates undertook to prevent women from leaving his orbit and keep his abuse quiet.

Mescudi testified that although no one had seen Combs near his car at the time of the incident, “I knew he had something to do with it.”

Combs’ defense lawyer Teny Geragos told jurors in her May 12 opening statement that Combs “simply was not involved in the alleged arson.”

His lawyers have acknowledged that Combs was at times abusive in domestic relationships, but said the women who participated in “Freak Offs” did so consensually.

Laura Miti punches more holes in Hichilema’s constitutional bill

Laura punches more holes in Hichilema’s constitutional bill

She writes:

Why has the government released a Constitution Amendment Bill, that significantly changes numbers in Parliament, without releasing the delimitation report those changes are based on?

Why is the delimitation report secret? Does it not belong to us? What’s the idea – to have the increased numbers passed and then tell us where those new seats are going to be?

Very disrespectful of citizens right to information and informed engagement. Treating the whole nation like children – decisions made kuchipinda and announced to children who can’t ask why and how.

She writes  again:

To understand why constitutional amendments should not be done in a hurry, consider this major contradiction in one of the proposals made in the recently published Constitutional Amendment Bill.

The current constitution says  in Article 58 (6) – a part not being amended – that any changes made by delimitation will come into effect at the next dissolution of Parliament.

Then Bill 7 says in 81(3) that Parliament will be dissolved a day before elections.

Does this mean the changes being proposed, as in the coming into effect of the 55 new constituencies, will take place in 2031. I ask because, a day before elections, voter registration will have been finalised and ballots printed?

If 2031 is the target, why the rush for these amendments, or is it the very rush causing such fundamental contradictions?

EFF REJECTS BILL 7, PLEDGES LEGAL ACTIONS TO STOP IT!

EFF REJECTS BILL 7, PLEDGES LEGAL ACTIONS TO STOP IT!

Fellow Zambians,
As President of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), I am compelled to address the nation on the grave threat posed by the so-called constitutional “reforms” now before Parliament. The proposed amendments, published in the 2025 Government Gazette, represent not the will of the people, but a desperately calculated scheme by the United Party for National Development (UPND) to entrench its power, dismantle our democracy, silence the voice of the opposition and ultimately replace our democracy with  an Autocratic One party system in the face of an eminent departure from power.

1. Autocratic and Untransparent Increase of Constituencies from 165 to 211

Amendment of the Constitution of Zambia Article 68 to increase constituencies from 156 to 211 while hiding from the people the Electoral Commission of Zambia Delimitation Reports upon which this increase is premised is Autocratic and  goes against the Constitutional provisions as well as the recommendations of European Union
Election Follow-up Mission ZAMBIA 2024 Final Report which recommended that “periodic delimitation of electoral boundaries be through an independent, inclusive and transparent process …” The UPND government has refused to make public both the 2019 and 2025  ECZ Delimitation Reports.

The proposed increase in constituency seats from 156 to 211, under the guise of “population growth,” is a textbook case of gerrymandering. The redrawing of boundaries will create safe seats for the ruling party, marginalizing opposition strongholds and rigging the system before a single vote is cast. The so-called “mixed-member proportional representation” for women, youth, and persons with disabilities is a smokescreen—these seats are allocated by party vote share, which only cements the UPND’s dominance.

2. By-Elections Abolished for fired MPs: No More Second Chances for the People

This is the amendment of Article 72(8)(b) of the Zambian Constitution to allow for political parties to replace members of parliament without subjecting them to an election.

By eliminating by-elections and allowing parties to simply appoint replacements, the UPND is closing off one of the last avenues for accountability between elections. This means the ruling party can fill Parliament with loyalists, even as it loses the people’s confidence. Democracy is not just about elections every five years—it is about the constant ability of the people to hold their leaders to account. Unfortunately this doesn’t even solve the problem of by-elections because the same will still be held in cases of death and court convictions etc of MPs. This is not reform—it is the death of parliamentary independence. With this unchecked authority, the executive can manufacture a supermajority, bulldozing through any law or constitutional change, including the removal of presidential term limits. This is a direct path to one-party rule and the erosion of democratic checks and balances.

3. Abuse of State Resources and Media Blackout

The amendment of Article 81(3) the Zambian Constitution so that the term of parliament be dissolved a day preceding the date of the next General election as opposed to 90 days before the general election as it were.

This amendment promotes rampant abuse of government resources during campaigns or to guarantee fair media access for all parties. Instead, they entrench the uneven playing field that has allowed the UPND to use public funds and state media to its advantage, while opposition voices are muzzled and civic space is squeezed.

4. A Process Without the People

This entire process has been rushed, secretive, and elite-driven. Civil society, the Law Association of Zambia, and ordinary citizens have been sidelined. There has been no genuine consultation, only token gestures. The government’s promises of inclusivity ring hollow when the outcome is already predetermined in favour of the ruling party.

5. A Distraction from Zambia’s Real Problems

While Zambians are suffering from record inflation, a collapsing kwacha, skyrocketing fuel prices, and a cost-of-living crisis, the UPND is focused on manipulating the Constitution for its own survival. These amendments are a distraction from the urgent issues of unemployment, hunger, and failing public services.

EFF’s Position and Call to Action

We, the Economic Freedom Fighters, categorically reject these amendments. We demand:
• An immediate halt to the constitutional amendment process.
• A truly inclusive, transparent, and nationwide consultation involving all stakeholders—political parties, civil society, churches, and the ordinary people of Zambia.
• A focus on holistic constitutional reform, not piecemeal changes designed to benefit the ruling elite.
• Immediate prioritisation of economic recovery, job creation, and the restoration of social services.

Let it be clear: Zambia’s democracy is not for sale. We will not stand by as our hard-won freedoms are dismantled for the sake of political expediency. The EFF will mobilise every peaceful, legal means to resist this assault on our Constitution and our future.

Let the will of the people—not the will of the President—determine the destiny of our great nation.

Judge HH on how he’s navigated country, rather than just infrastructure development – Haabazoka

By Jane Chanda

Former Economics Association of Zambia (EAZ) president Lubinda Haabazoka has rated President Hakainde Hichilema at 95 percent in terms of reforming public finances, with debt restructuring almost complete and government meeting its obligations to suppliers.

Speaking when he featured on the Hot Seat program on Hot FM Radio yesterday, Haabazoka highlighted the progress made by the government in managing public finances.

He noted that the monetary and fiscal policy being pursued by the government was squeezing out liquidity, resulting in less money in circulation.

“I think he’s performed 95 percent in terms of reforming public finances because debt restructuring is almost done,” Haabazoka said. “When you look at government being able to meet its obligations, suppliers

M’MEMBE SENDS MESSAGE TO MILENGE IN VIEW OF BY-ELECTION

M’MEMBE SENDS MESSAGE TO MILENGE IN VIEW OF BY-ELECTION

Milenge… Wednesday May 28, 2025 – Socialist Party (SP) President Dr. Fred M’membe has extended “warm revolutionary greetings” to the people of Milenge District in Luapula Province and to the wider Zambian nation.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Epu9qquTw/?mibextid=wwXIfr

His message, delivered in view of the crucial June 26 by-election in Fibalala Ward, called on residents to rally behind opposition candidate Thomas Mulenga.

Dr. M’membe urged the electorate to seize a historic opportunity to vote for Mulenga, describing him as a man of integrity, deep commitment, and a true representative of the people.

He emphasized that Mulenga stood as a beacon for a community eager to shape a new future.

He asserted that the upcoming by-election was more than a local contest, calling it a reflection of “the winds of change” sweeping across Zambia.

According to Dr. M’membe, this shift signifies that a unified opposition is not only plausible but already taking form and gaining strength.

The opposition leader has also condemned the ruling UPND for failing the Zambian people.

He emphasized that the government had delivered “empty slogans,” while citizens continue to grapple with increasing poverty, worsening inequality, and mounting political repression.

Dr. M’membe called on other regions, including Sikongo and Lumezi, to take the lead in embracing change.

He said the people of Milenge, Sikongo and Lumezi had the power to send a decisive message to the rest of the country-that Zambians are awake, united, and ready for true transformation.

Meanwhile, Dr. M’membe declared that the journey to the 2026 general elections had already begun.

He expressed confidence that with collective resolve, the opposition would reclaim the nation, restore justice, and build an inclusive Zambia where no one is left behind.

He writes:

I wish to extend warm revolutionary greetings to the resilient and hardworking people of Milenge District in Luapula province and the great nation of Zambia.

Today, I urge the people of Fibalala Ward to seize the opportunity before them on June 26 – an opportunity to vote for Comrade Thomas Mulenga, a man of the people and your representative under the opposition united front. Mulenga stands as a symbol of integrity, commitment, and the collective spirit of a people determined to chart a new course for their community

This by-election is not just about Fibalala. It is a reflection of the winds of change blowing across our country. It is a sign that a united opposition is not only possible – it is here, it is growing, and it will endure. Together, we are building a people – powered movement that will liberate Zambia from the misrule of the UPND.

The people of Zambia deserve leadership that listens, leadership that delivers, and leadership that respects the dignity of every citizen. What we have today under UPND is a betrayal of the promises made to our people – empty slogans, rising poverty, deepening inequality, and growing repression.

Let Milenge, Sikongo and Lumezi lead the way. Let Fibalala Ward send a strong message to the rest of Zambia – that we are awake, we are united, and we are ready for genuine transformation. The journey to 2026 starts now. Together, we will take back our country, restore justice, and build a Zambia where no one is left behind.
