Dr. Nevers Mumba Selling his birthright for a morsel of Bread and Lentil Stew+ Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Dr. Nevers Mumba Selling his birthright for a morsel of Bread and Lentil Stew

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba Wrote;

Former Vice  President, Dr. Nevers Mumba moves with mouthful of scriptures, yet  displays utter hate and bitterness harboring in his heart.

By these actions, he pervades Christianity.

His recent statement in a quest to support President Hakainde Hichilema on the concerning state of human rights practices in Zambia, is shocking and demonstrates how low his integrity has sunk.

He deliberately ignores the torture, inhuman treatment, restricted rights and freedoms, harrasment, exclusion because of tribe or region, and other humiliating treatment Zambians have suffered.

He is but deeply obsessed with the ills and mistakes of the former ruling party and yet ignores the ills being repeated by the UPND Government.

Zambians gave the former ruling party an ultimate punishment- the PF was voted out of power.

It goes without saying that Zambia has never experienced war or civil conflict or civil strife and has an admirable record of democracy, peace and security.

Yet today we have the USA Country Report on Human Rights Practices, the Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and others expressing serious concerns about the abuse of human rights, and the rapid emergency of a tyrannical government.

Yet today, we have the United Nations personnel in the country investigating human rights practices in Zambia.

That’s how concerning the extent of misrule of President Hakainde Hichilema is, that matters associated with failed States and nations at war such as; abuse of human rights, break-down of the independence of democratic institutions, obliteration of seperation of power, oppressions of critics and members of the Opposition, and break-down in the Rule of Law, are in full display in Zambia.

Unless we halt this downward spiral,we may be at the cusp of something ominous foreshadowing our nation.

Dr. Mumba knows that the Lord Jesus Christ came to heal the broken-hearted, preach deliverance to captives, and set free those who are oppressed.

“Love thy neighbour”, Jesus commanded.

Dr. Mumba knows that as Christians we are identified NOT by our nice or kind words, but by the fruits we bear; “You will know them by their fruits” Mathew 7;16

If politics or religion is coming between me and my neighbour, I will choose my neighbour.

We cannot abandon who we are as Christians for purposes of fulfilling political loyalties, even when our nationhood is threatened.

Mumba’s recent statements are diabolical, unchristian and promote hatred and bitterness in our nation.

Don’t be like hypocrites who love to pray publicly, Christ admonished us.

In Matthew 6:6: “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen; then yo

ur Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

Faith without works is dead.

I call upon my elder brother that as we call ourselves Christians, walk as Christians, let us be like Christ in our both speech and our deeds.

Let us be the light in politics and not be the diabolical.

Refusal to Prosecute Mumbi Phiri on Aggravated Robbery Charges by DPP: A Disturbing Sign of Abuse of Power- ULP

Refusal to Prosecute Mumbi Phiri on Aggravated Robbery Charges by DPP: A Disturbing Sign of Abuse of Power

The refusal by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to prosecute Hon. Mumbi Phiri, the former Deputy Secretary-General of the Patriotic Front (PF), on charges of aggravated robbery involving a phone and K20,000 in cash due to insufficient evidence is in principle welcome.

It has however raised significant concerns about the integrity of state institutions under the New Dawn Government, led by President Hakainde Hichilema. The DPP’s decision came just a day after the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Opinion and Expression, Irene Khan, and her team arrived in Zambia. This deepens suspicions of political influence and bias within the justice system. Was the DPP merely ordered to do so in order to look good to the UN delegation?

This refusal to move forward with prosecution stands as a stark reminder of the worrying trend of power abuse by government institutions, particularly those tasked with upholding justice. It seems to reflect a broader pattern of disregard for due process and the rule of law under the current administration. The fact that such serious charges, including those involving a significant sum of money and property led to Swift denial of someone’s liberty only to be dismissed so abruptly without a thorough investigation raises serious questions about the competence of the Zambia Police Service and the DPP’s office. Why arrest before adequate and proper investigations in the first place?

One pressing question we must all consider is how many innocent Zambians have suffered as a result of similar failures by the police, arising from incomplete investigations, rushed arrests, and wrongful detentions. The case of Mumbi Phiri is far from an isolated incident but rather a symptom of a much larger problem. The Zambia Police Service has repeatedly been accused of mishandling cases, with individuals being wrongfully incarcerated due to poorly conducted investigations. This pattern reflects an alarming lack of professionalism and accountability within state institutions.

Moreover, the current government’s obsession with targeting political opponents and individuals with opposing viewpoints is a serious cause for concern. The harassment and intimidation of opposition members, as well as the silencing of dissenting voices, sets a dangerous precedent that could destabilize the country. It is critical for the stability and progress of Zambia that all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, are afforded the same rights and protections under the law. This systematic attempt to silence critics, combined with selective prosecution, undermines the democratic values Zambia claims to uphold.

Such a trajectory, if left unchecked, can only lead to further division, increased hostility, and eventual anarchy. Hatred and bitterness will never build a prosperous nation; instead, they will breed only destruction and discontent. It is imperative that we, as a society, recognize the importance of justice, fairness, and inclusivity in moving forward. If Zambia continues down this path of selective justice, the consequences will be dire.

The widespread abuse of power and the flagrant disregard for the rule of law exhibited by the current administration highlight a critical flaw in our collective mindset: an ingrained culture of softness and forgiveness that allows those in power to act with impunity. While forgiveness is an essential part of our cultural identity, it must not come at the cost of justice and accountability. If we are to truly rise above our past mistakes and heal as a nation, we must learn to recognize when enough is enough. Accountability must be the cornerstone of our future.

In light of these developments, it is crucial that Hon. Mumbi Phiri takes legal action to seek redress for the harm caused by her false incarceration. She should pursue a lawsuit against the state for wrongful imprisonment and demand compensation for the damage to her reputation and personal well-being. In addition, those who falsely accused her and caused undue harm to her should be held accountable for their actions. Allowing individuals to make baseless accusations without consequence sets a dangerous precedence and erodes the trust that citizens have in the justice system.

The decision by the DPP to drop charges against Mumbi Phiri is not just a matter of legal procedure it is a clear reflection of the current administration’s disregard for fairness, justice, and accountability. As Zambians, we must continue to demand transparency, integrity, and fairness from our leaders and state institutions. The pursuit of justice must always remain blind to political affiliation and bias. We cannot allow false accusations and political persecution to define the future of our great nation.

I’m not quiet but just working in the background – Hamududu

I’m not quiet but just working in the background – Hamududu

PARTY of National Unity and Progress (PNUP) leader Highvie Hamududu says he has not been quiet over national matters but has been working and offering checks and balances in the background.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BLmovhY8M/?mibextid=oFDknk

In an interview with Kalemba yesterday, Hamududu stated that the public should not expect him and his party to do politics the usual way of criticising government policies anymore as he is now part of the UPND alliance.

The opposition leader disclosed that his purported silence is as a result of his party’s partnership with the ruling party of which a memorandum of understanding (MoU) is yet to be signed between the two parties.

He however stated that just because his cristicism is never aired or communicated all over social media doesn’t mean he doesn’t criticise government in the background.

“We are concluding our alliance partnership with the UPND. I’m not quiet. There’s a structure within the alliance and soon there will be an official way to sign a memorandum of understanding. We won’t be doing politics the way we have been doing.”

“If there is a problem, we will be talking in the background because you can’t criticise an alliance in the public. You have to work in the background, you can’t provide checks and balances in the public. An alliance operates in a way that it cannot criticise its own alliance,” said Hamududu.

He added that citizens will soon see the value that the PNUP will provide to the UPND stating that the party is happy to make the decision of officially joining the ruling party.

“You will see the value we will create in the alliance and we are very happy to make that decision,” he added.

Meanwhile, Hamududu stated that the economy cannot change overnight, urging Zambians to be patient with the UPND administration as it works on rebuilding the economy.

Just last November, Hamududu was part of President Hakainde Hichilema’s entourage to Chief Matanda’s area in Mansa where he declared his support for President Hichilema’s candidature in the incoming 2026 general election.

NO HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS IN ZAMBIA – ANDERSON BANDA

January 22, 2025

LUSAKA – UPND Lusaka Province Youth Chairman, Anderson Banda says assertions being driven by the opposition that there is increased human rights abuses under UPND Government must not be tolerated.

Mr Banda said it is unfortunate that the opposition are misleading the public that UN Human Rights Council Special Rapporteur, Irene Khan, is in the country to investigate human rights abuses.

SOCIALIST PARTY CALLS FOR ACCOUNTABILITY…as Loadshedding Hits Bank of Zambia

SOCIALIST PARTY CALLS FOR ACCOUNTABILITY

…as Loadshedding Hits Bank of Zambia

Petauke… Wednesday January 22, 2025

The Socialist Party (SP) has expressed deep concern over the recent power outage at the Bank of Zambia (BoZ), describing it as a grave reflection of Zambia’s worsening energy crisis.

In a statement, SP President Dr Fred M’membe highlighted the critical nature of the incident, which occurred on January 16, 2025, disrupting interbank fund transfers and raising serious questions about the country’s preparedness to manage key infrastructure under such conditions.

Dr M’membe labeled the power disruption at the Central Bank as a “serious and sensitive security issue” and criticized the government for failing to shield vital institutions from the impact of loadshedding.

He questioned how dire the situation must become before the nation demands accountability from those entrusted with managing the country’s affairs.

“The business community is already depressed because loadshedding has enormously impacted almost all sectors such as mining, agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, the commercial property industry, and so on and so forth,” Dr M’membe stated.

“This has subsequently contributed to inflationary pressures owing to interruptions in the supply chain. Therefore, cutting power or loadshedding the Central Bank and creating disruptions of inter-banking fund transfers is double disadvantage for the business sector.”

Dr M’membe further cautioned that continued negligence in addressing Zambia’s energy crisis could have devastating effects on the financial sector and the broader economy.

He urged the government and ZESCO to recognize the potential risks power outages pose to financial stability and to prioritize safeguarding sensitive institutions like the Bank of Zambia.

The Socialist Party leader also called for robust contingency measures at the Central Bank, emphasizing the need for reliable backup power systems to ensure uninterrupted financial operations.

He stressed that the Bank of Zambia must take proactive steps to guarantee the continuous provision of financial services, even during periods of loadshedding.

Dr M’membe urged the country to reject mediocrity and commit to securing Zambia’s financial systems.

He stated that the government and key institutions must act decisively to mitigate the impact of loadshedding and protect the nation’s economy from further deterioration.

Kalaba calls on UN Rapporteur to get firsthand information Instead of boardrooms

Kalaba calls on UN Rapporteur to get firsthand information Instead of boardrooms

CITIZENS First President, Harry Kalaba has called on the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights, Irene Khan not to dwell on the information that will be provided in the boardrooms but find out what is on the ground by getting first hand information.

Khan is in Zambia at the invitation of the Zambian government to conduct a 10 day assessment on issues related to the right to freedom of opinion and expression.

During a press conference on Tuesday,
Kalaba expressed strong support Khan’s visit to this Nation.

Kalaba criticised the government for what he described as a “repressive” administration, alleging that the true scale of human rights abuses is being concealed behind official reports and statistics.

“Don’t listen to those ones in the boardrooms, telling you and giving you graphs of how they have been managing these issues, its total lies,” he claimed.

He urged Khan to visit various political detainees across the country, highlighting the conditions faced by opposition leaders and activists.

“I would recommend she goes and visits comrade GBM in Mwembeshi, it’s not far from here. She goes and sees how GBM is still being detained under very deteriorating conditions.”

“She should go and see how colleagues are being kept in Chimbokaila , how colleagues are being kept in the various prison cells. And not only these ones who are know, even these ones who are not known. They should take time to go and visit them and appreciate the real situations,” stated Kalaba.

He called for Khan to engage with political opposition leaders and visit detention centers to witness the situation firsthand.

Meanwhile, the opposition leader called for change in leadership ahead of the 2026 elections citing the nation’s ongoing crises, including rising poverty, energy shortages, food insecurity, and escalating corruption.

Kalaba condemned the government’s handling of Zambia’s mineral resources, claiming that local small-scale miners were being sidelined in favour of foreign investors.

He also criticised the country’s energy sector, alleging mismanagement and corruption, particularly regarding fuel shortages and electricity supply issues.

Kalaba also claimed the government’s policies had crippled businesses and deepened poverty, with inflation and unemployment on the rise.

The Citizens First leader also addressed governance issues, accusing the UPND of political favoritism in civil service appointments and diplomatic posts, which he argued undermined Zambia’s foreign policy.

Following his allegations and claims, Kalaba vowed that his party would prioritise economic reform, particularly in the mining and energy sectors, if elected.

He promised to restore Zambia’s growth, improve public services, and end corruption.

POLICE IN LUNDAZI RECOVER STOLEN FERTILIZER

Lundazi, Jan 22, 2025, ZANIS—Police in Lundazi district of Eastern Province have recovered all the 36 bags of fertilizer valued at K44,100 that were stolen by some unscrupulous members of the community.

The fertilizer belongs to the Department of Community Development under the Farmer Support Programme (FSP).

The commodity was meant to benefit 9 farmers on the FSP programme, a government social protection programme aimed at assisting vulnerable but viable farmers.

According to the Eastern Province Commissioner of Police, Robertson Mweemba,  the fertilizer was stolen on January 13, 2024, around 18:00 hours at Chanyondo Primary School during the input distribution exercise.

Mr Mweemba said in a statement that Diana Kawanda 42, an Assistant Community Development Officer at the Lundazi office reported that while she was distributing 79 packs to beneficiaries at the named school, a mob looted the last 9 packs which belonged to beneficiaries who did not turn up to receive the inputs at the time.

The looted farming inputs comprised 18 X 50 kilograms of  D-Compound fertilizer, 18 X 50 kilograms of Urea fertilizer and 9 X10 kilograms of maize seed.

Police preliminary investigations established that before officers went to distribute the farming inputs, two people went round collecting money from farmers who were not on the FSP beneficiary list under the pretext that they were going to receive the inputs.

Mr Mweemba has named the two suspects as Morgan Mwale 45, of Mutanila Village in  Kapichila chiefdom in Lundazi district who managed to collect K33,100 from unsuspecting farmers.

Meanwhile, Lameck Nyirongo 49 of Lwanda Village in Kapichila chiefdom is alleged to have collected K800 from farmers, a situation which forced the duo to steal the farming  inputs following pressure from the farmers from whom money was obtained.

Police further picked Emmanuel Mabuka 47 of Kalulu Village in Kapichila chiefdom and Grandson Manda 28 of the same area after some looted farming inputs were found in their possession.

“Kindly be informed that the said farming inputs were recovered in full and were on January 17, 2025 disposed of by the court by handing them to the intended 9 beneficiaries while the four suspects were arrested and later released on police bond and are awaiting court appearance,” the police East Chief stated.

REVIEW OF ANTI-CORRUPTION LAW TOOL FOR NATIONAL TRANSFORMATION – JUSTICE MINISTER

Government has expressed confidence that the review of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012 is not just a legal instrument, but a tool for national transformation.

Speaking at the National Stakeholder Consultative Workshop on the Review of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012, Acting Minister of Justice Honourable Collins Nzovu said that the review of the Anti-Corruption legal framework will help safeguard the nations  integrity and ensure that future generations inherit a society founded on good governance, on the rule of law, and  transparency.

Hon. Nzovu noted that the review of the Anti-Corruption law demonstrates Governments commitment to good governance, and the protection of public resources

He said that Government is committed to engaging all relevant stakeholders in the consultation process to ensure that the revised Act is comprehensive and inclusive

Meanwhile, Anti-Corruption Commission Acting Director General Mrs. Monica Chipanta Mwansa has commended the various stakeholders that have collaborated with the Commission in reviewing the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.

“On this journey of reviewing the Anti-Corruption law, we have partnered with various stakeholders. Together, we seek to address the evolving landscape of anti-corruption efforts, responding not only to the challenges of today but also anticipating those of tomorrow,” she said.

And Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice Ambassador Isabelle Lemba noted that the National Consultative Meeting is expected to  ensure that Governments policy direction in fighting corruption meets the needs and expectations of the people of Zambia.

GOVERNMENT ACCELERATES PROCUREMENT OF THE 156 CDF-FUNDED AMBULANCES

GOVERNMENT ACCELERATES PROCUREMENT OF THE 156 CDF-FUNDED AMBULANCES

Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary (Technical services) Mr. Nicholas Phiri updates the Nation on the procurement of Ambulances.

Here are the highlights;

✅Eighteen more Ambulances have arrived in the country and this is the second consignment, bringing the total to 29 out of the 156 procured under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

✅Six more ambulances are currently at the port, while 12 are en route and expected to arrive by mid-February 2025.

✅The process to deliver all the 156 procured ambulances remain on schedule, affirming that the remaining consignments would be delivered by March this year.

✅Attributed the delay in delivering the ambulances to the situation that had developed in one of the neighboring countries through which Government shipped the ambulances and the disruption of the festival season where most of the firms, including the shipping companies, had gone on recess.

✅Government will not wait until all the 156 ambulances are received before they can be flagged off or distributed to the respective areas.

✅Once the other 18 ambulances are received in the next two weeks or so, arrangements for distribution to respective constituencies will be made.

✅Government will first consider the vulnerability of some Constituencies in terms of outbreak of diseases and the ministry of health will guide on the levels of vulnerability.

✅Areas like Nakonde for example had experienced an outbreak of chlorella just a few weeks ago and that makes that area a priority and of course Lusaka is always an epicenter of diseases.

✅The Ambulances come with well-stocked first aid kits to respond to emergencies immediately.

✅Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary further updated the nation on the implementation of the Cash for Work program, revealing that a total number of 1,418,435 beneficiaries were engaged under the program.

✅Out of 1,418,435 beneficiaries that were engaged from November to December 2024, Government has paid a sum of K452,851,505. 89 to 1,024,970 beneficiaries, reflecting a payment performance of 60 percent.

✅Government faced some challenges in processing the payments and among them;
i. The mismatch between the names registered in the SIM cards as well as the names on the NRC.
ii. Some areas are completely cut off from mobile network, and even where the mobile network existed hence the financial inclusion was poor.

Munir Zulu to present 50 witnesses before court

Munir Zulu to present 50 witnesses before court

LUMEZI Independent member of parliament, Munir Zulu is this week expected to present a crowd of 50 witnesses as he tries to weave himself out of a possible trip to jail over seditious practices for which he has already been found with a case to answer.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1D4yKDEtkn/?mibextid=oFDknk

After being put on his defence by Senior Resident Magistrate Faides Hamaundu, the you parliamentarian left everyone saucer-eyed when he said fugitive former former lawmaker Emmanuel Jay Banda would also be on list of the 50 witnesses testifying in his favour

The court court then gave Zulu the whole week to bring all his witnesses and conclude his defence.

When he opened his defence yesterday, Zulu denied the allegations stating the Banda would also be on the witness list.

Zulu’s legal troubles stem from the remarks attributed to him in the wake of Banda’s purported abduction last May.

When the matter came up yesterday for continued defence, Milenge Member of Parliament, Gystave Chonde Saka told the court that words uttered by Zulu were not seditious.

He said Zulu did not incite people to rise against a sitting Government, it was a sombre mood that day and members of Parliament were trying to address the issue.

Saka said it was very clear that Zulu in his address was appealing to the President to act on the disappearance of Banda.

“The interest in which the press conference was raised was to get or air the concerns to the President for action on the  disappearance of Banda and the mood of the conference was Sombre and an appeal,” he said.

In this matter, Zulu pleaded not guilty to three counts of seditious practices contrary to Section 57 sub section 1 part b as read with Section 60 subsection 1 part e and f of the Penal Code Act Chapter 87 of the Laws of  Zambia.

Particulars of the offence allege that Zulu on unknown dates but between May 25 and 27 uttered seditious words to raise discontent or disaffection among the people of Zambia.

Zulu is also alleged to have uttered seditious words to promote feelings of ill will or hostility between different communities or different parts of a community.

Further allegations are that Zulu on a date unknown but between May 26 and 27, 2024 in Lusaka uttered seditious words to which he said”… The worst of the Patriotic Front we never witnessed a Member of Parliament being abducted. The worst of the Patriotic Front we never saw a Member of Parliament’s residence being burnt down. You at your best a Member of Parliament has disappeared. At your best, at your methodical, a house has been burnt down. And we know there is a list. Mr. President in case you do not know, the people you give instructions to have families and information is filtering.

Dr. Nevers Mumba, your allegiance to UPND regime will not shield you from the judgment of history-  Tonse Alliance

Dear Dr. Mumba,

Your statement is nothing short of a self-serving charade, a testament to the betrayal of Zambians who look to opposition leaders for accountability, not opportunistic praise-singing. Your desperate attempt to defend the indefensible exposes the true motivation behind your newfound allegiance to the UPND government—a betrayal of principle for personal gain.

While you pontificate about the abuses of the PF regime—a tired and predictable deflection—the truth is that the UN Special Rapporteur is not here to discuss the past. They are here to scrutinize the current regime, your political benefactors, for their ongoing and escalating human rights violations. The Zambian people are not fools. We see through this smokescreen, crafted to shield your allies from accountability while pretending to uphold justice.

Your dismissal of concerns about human rights abuses as “insincere tears of offenders” is an insult to the victims of this regime’s brutality. Peaceful protesters being arrested, opposition members facing harassment, and dissenting voices being silenced are not “stories.” They are lived realities. The very freedoms you claim are flourishing under the UPND are being systematically undermined, and your convenient silence on these issues betrays your hypocrisy.

You extol the government’s anti-corruption drive as if it were a paragon of fairness, yet the selective prosecution of opposition members while shielding those within the ruling party reeks of political vindictiveness. This is not justice—it is a sham. You, Dr. Mumba, know better. Your willingness to participate in this charade suggests complicity, if not active endorsement, of this blatant abuse of power.

Your role as an opposition leader is to hold the government accountable, yet you have become a mere echo chamber for their propaganda. What benefits have you secured for this silence, Dr. Mumba? What price did you place on the principles you once claimed to hold? Your transformation from a leader to a puppet is a tragic indictment of your character and integrity.

The Zambian people are watching. No amount of polished statements or deflection will obscure the reality of the UPND’s failures. The UN Rapporteur’s presence in Zambia is a stark reminder that the world is watching, too. Your attempt to downplay these concerns in favor of partisan loyalty will not erase the growing evidence of oppression and selective justice under this government.

Dr. Mumba, your allegiance to this regime will not shield you from the judgment of history. You have abandoned the fight for justice and democracy in favor of personal convenience. If you cannot rise above self-interest to genuinely advocate for the Zambian people, then step aside. Zambia deserves leaders who stand for the truth, not opportunists who trade their voice for scraps from the government’s table.

We will not forget.

THE DESPERATE PLOT BY OFFENDERS TO PAINT ZAMBIA AS AN ABUSER OF HUMAN RIGHTS- Dr Nevers Mumba

THE DESPERATE PLOT BY OFFENDERS TO PAINT ZAMBIA AS AN ABUSER OF HUMAN RIGHTS:

By Dr Nevers Mumba, President
Movement for Multiparty Democracy, MMD
21st January 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE……

The chorus that we are hearing that the Zambian government is abusing human rights is being sang by political leaders facing the law on corruption charges.

The UPND led government has taken huge steps in improving the human rights index for Zambia over the past three years.

By removing political cadres and violence from the political space, the UPND government has created a new political environment of peace, progress and potential prosperity for the nation.

Under the previous Patriotic Party(PF) regime, Zambia was known as a lawless nation which was governed by political cadres from the ranks and file of the then ruling party.

As president of the opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy, I can attest to the brutality of the previous regime. Political violence which mostly ended in loss of life was the order of the day in every election cycle. As opposition parties, we were not allowed to campaign freely. Rallies and any special political meetings were not allowed. Access to public media was a preserve of the PF party.

The MMD has documented evidence of arbitrary arrests. We were publicly tear gassed out of meetings. By the use of the Public Order Act(POA), our party did not receive any police permits to hold political party meetings between 2012 and 2021 outside the official campaign seasons.

It was Zambia’s darkest season in our democratic journey.

In the short three years that the UPND has been in government, violent cadres are off the streets and bus stations. Campaigns are violent free. Freedom of expression is available to all as evidenced in print media, radio and television. One just needs to turn to both public and social media to attest to these freedoms. To show commitment to these values, the UPND government repealed the law and removed the defamation of the president clause. This allows opponents to freely criticize the president without any legal implications.

The claim by the former ruling party members that the UPND government is abusing human rights is a battle strategy to deflect the fight against corruption. Many leaders of the previous regime are being challenged in the courts of law to account for their unexplainable wealth.

The arrests of those suspected of corruption are done in accordance with the rule of law. They are arrested, charged, committed to court and granted bail depending on the nature of the case. We do not consider such a process as abuse of human rights.

We urge the UPND government not to cower or be intimidated. Corruption MUST be fought and won.

The PF party just officially launched a misinformation crusade across the country to paint the current government as an abuser of human rights by creating stories and scenarios that are non existent. They have further decided to tarnish the image of Zambia abroad all in a bid to get themselves off the hook of prosecution for their abuse of power.
The rule of law is at work and no Zambian should be deceived by the insincere tears of offenders of the law.

We however urge the police to ensure that they use even handedness in dealing with any citizen who is found to be on the wrong side of the law. There should not be any sacred cows in the fight against corruption. Past, present and future offenders should all be held to the same standards.

I thank you.

Chabinga challenges Lungu’s PF to show the country what he benefited from them

PF faction leader who also happens to be Mafinga Member of Parliament and leader of the opposition in the national assembly Robert Chabinga has challenged the Edgar Lungu led PF to show the country the money they gave him the time he was supporting Lungu if at all there was any.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1HAQ2Z1Hgd/?mibextid=oFDknk

In an interview with Kalemba yesterday, Chabinga stated that just because he is now supporting President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership doesn’t mean he is being paid by the UPND.

He said supporting the ruling party is as a result of the many developmental projects that have so far benefited his constituents.

“I want to make the record straight, my support to President Hakainde Hichilema is on developmental agendas. In Mafinga where there was no road, there’s a road, hospitals that didn’t have equipment now have equipment, children that were sitting on the floor in class are no longer sitting on the floor because desks have been bought. If you go to Mafinga now, the shape of the district is changing because of the development taking place there,” said Chabinga

Chabinga said he has never been paid by the UPND for supporting President Hichilema’s policies just like he was never paid by anyone when he was supporting Lungu.

“We have emergency social cash transfer doing a great job in Mafinga. We have FISP in agriculture so when people say it’s personal gain, they must state clearly if when I supported them I had any personal gain. I supported president Lungu even when he was supposed to be impeached, ask them if they gave me any money from State House, I paid my own legal fees for stopping of the impeachment motion of president Lungu so what was my personal gain?” he wondered.

He accused the PF from the Edgar Lungu camp of being jealous of him simply because they have no access to the ruling party like him.

Chabinga also claimed that his rival Miles Sampa who also claims to be PF president was bought by a different camp within the PF to cause havoc in the party.

The opposition leader reiterated that those thinking that his support for the UPND is due to personal gain must refrain from thinking like that as he was devoted to serving the interests of the people of Zambia.

“Let them leave me alone, let them concentrate on what they are doing, I have never collected any single ngwe to support me from UPND. I’m just doing it for my people because the UPND is developing the whole country,” said Chabinga…https://kalemba.news/local/2025/01/22/chabinga-challenges-lungus-pf-to-show-the-country-what-he-benefited-from-them/

I will be a present MP who won’t move to Lusaka after elections – UPND Petauke candidate

UPND Petauke Central aspiring candidate Severian Lungu has assured the people of Petauke that unlike many Members of Parliament that abandon their constituencies after being elected to represent their people in the august house, he won’t leave his constituency to go and live in Lusaka.

In an interview with Kalemba yesterday, Lungu stated that the only time he will be seen in Lusaka is when he is doing his parliamentary duties.

He also shared that he has made an informed decision to settle in Petauke for the rest of his life as most of his businesses are based in his home town, making it easy for him to attend to the needs of his constituents.

“I have seven businesss here, it’s not possible for me to leave Petauke and start a new life in Lusaka. I will only be going to Lusaka for work. I have made an informed decision to be a resident of Petauke for the rest of my life, I can assure the people of Petauke that they will have a present MP who will not only listen to their problems but also attend to them because I will be on the ground seeing and checking what is needed,” said Lungu.

The ruling party’s aspiring candidate added that in order to deliver quality development to his constituency, he will ensure that the UPND and other political party members unite.

He said development in that manner shall be easy to distribute equally without segregation or looking at one’s political affiliation.

“I will also unite PF and UPND so that development is given equally to all residents of Petauke. UPND and PF and any other political party members must be treated equally in order for development to take place,” he said.

Lungu said the ruling party had been sending the necessary amenities to develop the constituency but the development could not reach every part of Petauke Central because people were divided.

“There are so many amenities that the government provides and I want them to reach everyone in my constituency. CDF, infrastructure, education, safe water and many others shall be my top priorities to ensure that everyone gets their share,” he said.

The Petauke Central seat which was held by fugitive former MP, Emmanuel Jay Banda fell vacant after Banda failed to show up in the house under the seven day ultimatum he was given by the speaker Nelly Mutti.

In November last year, Mutti notified the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) of a vacant seat in Petauke Central of which the ECZ later set the date for the by election which takes place next month on the sixth.

HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES IN ZAMBIA WORSEN UNDER HICHILEMA  – ZAWAPA

HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES IN ZAMBIA WORSEN UNDER HICHILEMA  –  ZAMBIA WAKE UP

By Fox Reporter
ZAMBIA Wake Up (ZAWAPA)  leader, Howard Kunda says the human rights situation in Zambia is worsening under President Hakainde Hichilema amid the visit by the United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur Ireen Khan.

Khan is in Zambia to meet and discuss issues of freedoms with the Government, political parties, the civil society, media and other stakeholders.

Kunda, the immediate past Muchinga Member of Parliament, said the UN Special Rapporteur’s visit signals a red flag against Zambia regarding the human rights situation and escalating cases of rights abuse.

He says there was no doubt that human rights are being abused in Zambia under President Hichilema’s watch.

Kunda noted with sadness that people’s freedom of expression is  being gagged as evidenced by arrests of several people with divergent views especially opposition political party leaders.

He insisted that the opposition should be allowed to freely check the Government in the best interest of democracy and rights that are enshrined in the republican constitution.

Kunda emphasised that the UPND regime won’t manage to return Zambia to a one-party state and demanded that the Government levels the playing field for all players.

“As we have heard the international community has now raised a red flag against Zambia over the human rights situation and that is why they are sending a representative to come and get the facts on the ground so that they can have a correct position. I think it is a welcome move by the Human Rights Council of the United Nations to send a representative so that they can come and hear facts on the ground regarding the human rights situation for themselves,” Kunda said.

“We have talked about these issues many times. We have been stopped from holding rallies, to speaking and giving divergent views. Do they want all of us to be UPND? We know that this is a free society that we chose for ourselves and enshrined human rights and freedoms in our republican constitution so that we can have a balanced society.”

“We can’t have a one-sided nation where the ruling party takes everything. This will be retrogressive to our nation. I think that this government has a duty to level the playing field for all political parties. Political players should be free so that we can have this Government checked and that is why we exist as opposition political parties,” said Kunda.

GOVERNMENT ISSUES A 10-DAY ULTIMATUM FOR LOCAL AUTHORITIES TO DISBURSE CASH-FOR-WORK FUNDS

GOVERNMENT ISSUES A 10-DAY ULTIMATUM FOR LOCAL AUTHORITIES TO DISBURSE CASH-FOR-WORK FUNDS

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has issued a 10-day ultimatum, effective 21st January, 2025, to all 87 Local Authorities involved in the Cash for Work (C4W) program, directing them to disburse the funds allocated for the program’s implementation.

This directive was announced following a meeting chaired by the Secretary to the Cabinet, Mr. Patrick Kangwa, to review the implementation of Phase 1 of the Cash for Work Programme for the period September to December 2024, held on Monday, 20t January h, 2025.

The Secretary to the Cabinet emphasized that delays in the implementation of Government programs, including Cash for Work, were unacceptable, particularly as the program is intended to secure livelihoods for households affected by the drought situation that was faced in the 2023/2024 farming season.

Mr. Kangwa directed the Ministry of Local Government, through the office of the Permanent Secretary – Technical Services, to ensure that the Local Authorities disburse the funds to beneficiaries within 10 working days. He further called on the Local Authorities to ensure value for money in the scale of the Cash for Work and other Public Works.

During the meeting the Permanent Secretary Technical Services Mr. Nicholas Phiri reported that Local Authorities have been authorized to open mobile payment accounts through Mobile Service Providers, in accordance with Section 141 of the Public Finance Management Act No. 1 of 2018 and Treasury Finance Management Circular No. 1 of 2024, Section 3.9.

The Authority to open accounts with Mobile Service Providers will allow Local Authorities to provide Cash- in-transit services in order to service areas where Mobile Network and Banking services may not be available.

Further, as part of the solution to challenges in verifying beneficiary details, network providers have committed to distribute free SIM cards to ensure accurate data collection and registration. This initiative is expected to streamline the verification process and minimize mismatched details between SIM cards and National Registration Cards (NRCs), which previously led to payment delays.

Local Authorities are expected to act swiftly within the stipulated timeframe to comply with this directive. The Ministry will closely monitor the disbursement process and take appropriate action against any authority that fails to comply.

Chawama deserves more,  cries Morgan Muunda

Chawama deserves more,  cries Morgan Muunda

Hellen Bwalya and Fulman Mukobeko

Lusaka business mogul Morgan Muunda is confident that he will scoop the Chawama Constituency seat he is aspiring for under the United Party for National  Development (UPND) in view of the looming by-election.

There is a looming by-election, evidently so because of its Member of Parliament Tasila,  beloved daughter of sixth Zambian leader Edgar Lunga who has prolonged her absence from the august House with her continued stay in the United States of America, seemly for medical attention.

Mr  Muunda says he has resorted to jump back into the murky waters of politics to redeem the people of Chawama whom he said have been deprived and betrayed by the Lungus; naming former President  Lungu and his daughter Tasila.

And Mr Muunda said he was never defeated by Mr Lungu in the 2011Chawama Parliamentantry  Election but that the latter won the election by deceit.

He complained that Mr Lungu abandoned Chawama which put him in the lime light and opted to side with Kabwata Constituency  which has no real history of his background.

Speaking in an interview,  Mr Muunda said the people of Chawama where he hailed from have been denied the much needed benefits of the Community Development Fund(CDF) because their leader who was supposed to spearhead the developmental agenda had chickened out and serving her own interests in the United States of America (by press time).

Echoewing Lusaka Province Chairperson Obvious  Mwaliteta’s remarks,  Mr Muunda  stated that Chawama needed a leader that understands the suffering the people go through unlike the  one who whenever they developed a headache they fly out of the country to seek medical attention as though the country does not have credible Health facilities to attend to her health needs.

“The current Member of Parliament,
Tasila Lungu has taken a prolonged absence from representing the people of Chawama in the august house and has not indicated the time she will come back,” he noted.

Pointing out a myriad of constraints  afflicting just Chawama compatriots,  Mr Muunda said people in the constituency deserves better more so from the noble UPND Administration policies centred largely on Community Development  Fund(CDF) project alas,  they were still living in mediocrity because their MP was neither here nor there.

Mentioning one by one areas and wards that needed urgent attention, Mr Muunda lamented that Chawama Constituency has lagged  in terms of economic development because it has no representation in Parliament.

Mr Muunda added that Chawama has been receiving Constituency Development Fund  but have nothing to show for in terms of investment and wondered where the money goes.

He said  most markets in Chawama Constituency needed to be modernized so that they become attractive and that could only be done by proper utilization of the CDF funds .

“Schools and Universities need to be constructed in Chawama so that residents can have access to quality education.

The business man disclosed that Primary Health Care is also lagging in Chawama as the major hospital in the Constituency lack proper medical facilities.

‘Something’ led me to sleep with my underage daughter- Man tells court

Bernard Ndumbula without wasting the court’s time, boldly accepted the charge stating that he slept with his daughter on October 5, 2024.

He told the court he saw ‘something’ and later realised he was having carnal Knowledge with his daughter.

Ndumbula is charged with Incest Contrary to Section 159 (1) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

It is reported that on October 5, 2024 in Lusaka, the accused person had unlawful carnal knowledge of a female namely JD knowing the same to be his biological daughter.

And according to the record, the victim around 23:00 hours on October 5, 2024 was at her neighbour’s house sleeping when her father called her to go and sleep at his house telling her that he bought her books she wanted.

The defendant told her not to be scared to sleep in the house and that she should be free around him when her mother is not around.

The girl said she went to sleep in her bedroom, and as she was about to sleep, her father entered while holding a green knife in his hands threatening to kill her if she screams.

She said Ndumbula told her she shouldn’t tell anyone about what he was going to do.

“That is how he locked the door and covered me with a blanket. He undressed me and had carnal knowledge of me,” the young girl was quoted in the court document.

She said while everything was happening, her mother was not at home.

The young girl reported the issue to her neighbour the following morning who told her to tell his elder sister. And they decided to report the matter to the police.

Thieves behind stolen 1000 iPhones possess advanced techniques to unlock devices regardless of security
WHILE a person in panic after losing an iPhone can go straight to activate “Lost Mode”, thieves on the other end are said to grin with excitement exploiting the situation to access personal information in the phone to commit further damage.

Six men who were apprehended by the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) Cybersecurity Task Force in connection to 10,000 stolen iPhones, revealed that When users activate “Lost Mode” on their devices, the suspects see this as an advantage.
“Activating Lost Mode displays the owner’s mobile number, which they exploit to gain access to accounts by impersonating the victim and claiming identities stored on the device,” the suspect disclosed after they were caught.

It is reported that Leonard Kasonde, John Phiri, Lewis Daka, Ephraim Bwalya, Stanley Banda, and Mike Mwanza who were apprehended in Kabanana while driving an unregistered silver Lexus for committing cyber crimes.
According to authorities, the six are accused of stealing phones and selling them primarily in Zimbabwe and other neighbouring countries.
This came to light following an investigation into the theft of an iPhone 14 Pro Max, which led to unauthorised access to a victim’s bank account and social media accounts.

The investigation ignited an operation by authorities who recovered three iPhone 14 Pro Max devices, four Tecno Fortune phones, 30 Airtel SIM cards, and 25 MTN SIM cards.
It was further revealed that the suspects are linked to over 10,000 stolen iPhones, selling them primarily in Zimbabwe and other neighbouring countries.
According to sources, the suspects possess advanced techniques to unlock devices, including those protected by fingerprint or face ID, making it difficult to track them using IMEI numbers.

An analysis by authorities of the recovered SIM cards and devices linked the suspects to a K900,000 unauthorised access case in Choma, indicating their involvement in a broader network targeting electronic devices and financial accounts.
Authorities advised the public to report stolen phones and SIM cards to ZICTA immediately by dialing *707#.
They said one must avoid activating “Lost Mode” unless absolutely necessary.

Embrace eSIMs: Switch to eSIM technology to enhance security and reduce the risk of SIM card theft.
Furthermore, authorities said People should be informed about scams related to stolen phones and educate their contacts.

The investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of the suspects’ operations and identify other individuals involved in this criminal network…https://kalemba.news/…/thieves-behind-stolen-1000…/

Married Doctor Skips Traditional Court After Forcing Girlfriend To Abort And Offering Two Goats As Compensation

A married medical doctor has been taken to traditional courts by his girlfriend after forcing her to abort her pregnancy and offering two goats as compensation.

Well-known Bindura medical doctor Dr Tonderai Chiwawa has come under intense scrutiny following accusations from his girlfriend, Karen Tandanguni, that he abandoned her during pregnancy and offered an unusual compensation of two goats.

Despite being summoned to Chief Chipadze’s traditional court on multiple occasions, the 40-year-old doctor failed to appear for the hearing on Sunday.
Karen says this marks the third time Dr Chiwawa has avoided the court proceedings. Before this, he missed hearings at Chief Masembura’s court and even proposed transferring the case to Chief Chipadze’s jurisdiction—only to fail to attend again.

Evidence Submitted Against the Doctor
Karen, 25, shared that she had presented extensive evidence against Dr Chiwawa to Chief Chipadze. The evidence included text messages and audio recordings in which the doctor allegedly instructed her to terminate her three-month pregnancy. Frustrated by his repeated absence, Karen now considers escalating the matter to the police.

This is the third time he has stood me up, he did it twice at Chief Masembura’s court and never came for the hearing. He is the one who had suggested a change of courts to Chief Chipadze but still he never showed up.

According to Karen, the doctor proposed reconciliation as a contingent for withdrawing the claim against him at the traditional court.
However, Karen claims the doctor’s actions go beyond mere abandonment. She accuses him of making threats to harm her, for refusing to terminate the pregnancy, and for pursuing justice. She has since filed a separate report at Bindura Police Station, which includes allegations of theft after her mobile phone was stolen.

A Relationship Gone Sour
Karen revealed that her relationship with Dr Chiwawa began in November 2022. She claims the doctor initially promised to marry her, only to deny responsibility for the pregnancy later.

“He promised marriage, but now he’s refusing to acknowledge the child. He even told me he wants me to suffer for bringing this issue to the chief’s court.”

Karen also expressed fear for her safety, citing the doctor’s alleged threats.

“He said he’s prepared to harm me if I keep the child. I’m scared, but I won’t back down”

Allegations of Manipulation and a Troubled Past
According to Karen, the doctor’s family warned her about his troubling history.

“His relatives told me to be cautious. He’s already on his third marriage and has children with his first two wives and one with a former maid”

Despite this, Karen claims the doctor pressured her to terminate her pregnancy while simultaneously trying to discredit her publicly.

“He’s trying to frustrate me into giving up, but I won’t. He lied about marrying me, and I ended up pregnant. Now, he’s playing games.”

Doctor Denies Allegations
When contacted by H-Metro for his side of the story, Dr Chiwawa denied Karen’s claims, dismissing her as someone seeking attention.

“I know her from around the neighborhood, and I don’t care what she says. You can write whatever she tells you,” the doctor stated.

He further accused Karen of attempting to tarnish his reputation without merit.

Zimbabweans unite as resistance grows against Mnangagwa’s power grab

HARARE – Resistance to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s alleged plan to extend his term in office beyond the constitutional limit of 2028 is growing, with Zimbabweans taking to the streets and social media to express their opposition.

The proposed extension, which would allow Mnangagwa to remain in office until 2030, has been met with widespread criticism and concern.

Videos are circulating on social media showing a group of youths aligned to former opposition leader Nelson Chamisa, running in the streets, chanting the slogan, “2030 taramba (We resist 2030 plan)”.

The resistance movement has also taken to social media, with the hashtag #NoToVision2030Nonsense gaining traction. Zimbabweans are using the hashtag to express their opposition to the plan and to call for Mnangagwa to respect the constitutional limit on his term in office.

The proposed extension has also been criticised by human rights organizations, who argue that it would undermine Zimbabwe’s democracy and the rule of law.

The Zim for All Foundation, a non-governmental pro-democracy organisation has strongly condemned the plan to amend the Constitution to extend Mnangagwa’s term, calling it an affront to democracy and a blatant disregard for constitutional governance.

In a statement, the foundation argued that this move would further erode public trust in institutions, deepen political and economic instability, and silence the voices of millions of Zimbabweans who yearn for true democratic governance.

The Zim for All Foundation has urged the international community to stand in solidarity with the people of Zimbabwe in rejecting this proposed amendment, and has called on all Zimbabweans to unite in defending their constitutional rights and democratic freedoms.

Another group of young people calling itself the National Youth Taskforce, have come out strongly against the plan to extend Mnangagwa’s term of office.

In a statement, the task force argued that Mnangagwa’s government has been marked by “rampant corruption, violation of human rights, unemployment, and a broken educational system” and that the people of Zimbabwe “wholesomely rejected” him in the 2023 elections.

“Mnangagwa’s government has been characterized by rampant corruption, violation of human rights, unemployment, and a broken educational system in Zimbabwe – nothing is working.

“This is why the people of Zimbabwe wholesomely rejected Mnangagwa and his outfit in August 2023 and confidently voted for President Chamisa with an intention to form a People’s Government, a desired government by all.

“We will not stand idly-by while an illegitimate president who does not have a social contract with the people, attempts to extend the suffering of our nation.

“We will not watch as he seeks to prolong the looting of public resources, the poor health system, capture of state institutions, and a dead economic system that have plagued our country. We will not fold our hands when our future is at stake.

“We therefore call on all progressive forces to join us in rejecting this shameful agenda in its entirety and to work together towards a better future for our country, A New and Great Zimbabwe for Everyone,” the task force noted.

Critics further point out that Mnangagwa himself has previously stated that he would not seek a third term, and that this plan is a betrayal of that promise.

The resistance against Mnangagwa’s plan is not limited to the opposition. Some members of the ruling Zanu-PF party have also expressed concerns about the plan.

The party’s secretary for legal affairs, Patrick Chinamasa, recently clashed with fellow party members when he claimed that Mnangagwa was involved in the drafting of the current Constitution hence he would not want to violate it.

Former Zanu-PF political commissar and minister Saviour Kasukuwere has been vocal in his opposition to the plan, calling on Zimbabweans to unite against it. Kasukuwere described the plan as a “grave threat to Zimbabwe’s democracy, constitutionalism, and the rule of law”.

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, the frontrunner in the race to succeed Mnangagwa, is opposed to the 2030 agenda. The rivalry between the two powerful Zanu-PF leaders has resulted in massive factionalism within the party.

ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula Speaks on Mbuyiseni Ndlozi Joining the ANC

Fikile Mbalula Speaks on Mbuyiseni Ndlozi Joining the ANC

ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has weighed in on the potential political future of former EFF MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, suggesting that the door is open for him to join the African National Congress (ANC).

This comes after Mbuyiseni Ndlozi’s resignation as an EFF Member of Parliament two weeks ago.

Fikile Mbalula Welcomes the Idea of Mbuyiseni Ndlozi Joining ANC

Speaking to the media, Fikile Mbalula expressed admiration for Ndlozi’s political capabilities and hinted at the possibility of discussions between the former EFF member and the ANC.

“Mbuyiseni, are we talking to him? I don’t know; it is possible. It’s only him and him only that can speak for himself but I would not be shocked if the ANC can talk to him because he is a good member of society, and in the realm of politics, he is a good politician, so why not talk to him?,” Mbalula said.

He emphasized that Ndlozi is welcome in the ANC, particularly if he decides to continue his political career.

If he leaves his party, why not talk to him and join the ANC and contribute to the South African body politic of the country? It looks like he was kicked out; he was shown he was of no value to his party. If he decides to be a politician and wants to remain in politics and pursue the agenda of transformation, the liberation of our people, we in the ANC are open to that he can come,” Mbalula remarked.

Criticism of the EFF and Malema
Fikile Mbalula did not hold back in his criticism of EFF leader Julius Malema, accusing him of mistreating Ndlozi.

“When his party ejects him like that, just kicking somebody like Mbuyiseni out, it means Malema is powerful and he is overconfident in himself.”

Mbalula likened Ndlozi to a “glass palace.”

“Mbuyiseni is a glass palace; he is not just a small boy, but if you are powerful, you are powerful, and if you think a glass palace like Mbuyiseni can just be kicked out like that. So there is nothing wrong for ANC members and anyone to talk to Mbuyiseni.”

Ndlozi’s Next Move
While Mbalula left the door open for Ndlozi to join the ANC, he clarified that no formal discussions have taken place yet.

Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has not yet commented on his future plans or Mbalula’s remarks. However, the ANC’s interest in him has fueled speculation about whether he will align himself with the ruling party or take a different path in South African politics.

Here are some of the reactions;

@BBK29_;

Imagine Ndlozi leaving the EFF just to go and be led by Fikile who always say things like this 😩😩😩😩😩🥹🥹🥹🥹🤭🤭🤭🤭💀💀💀💀💀

That will be the end of Ndlozi in politics 🤞💯

premier
We all know we can’t take decisions for him but believe it or not, Ndlozi must remain in the EFF and take a break from the public to come back stronger 💯🤞

@MbuyiseloMafil1;

Ndlozi is a great activist that couldn’t be boxed in by Malema,a real revolutionary, I hope ANC will be his next political home ✊🏿✊🏿

@JoyLethabo8;

If we are being honest @MbuyiseniNdlozi must look for a job as a lecturer and wait for the best moment to make a huge come in politics. Any other move contrary to that will prove desperate and be the end of him

@drcnoxzondo;

Ndlozi deserves better than ANC. It would be a downgrade for him.

@ntokozo_eff;

It’s not like you saving him but avoiding to see him joining MKP

Scotland bans the use of terms like ‘slaves’ and ‘slave trade’ from its curriculum

Scotland’s exam authority, the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), has replaced terms like “slaves” and “slave trade” with “enslaved people” and “the trade in enslaved African people” as part of efforts to “decolonize” the curriculum.

The change, introduced last summer, comes after education leaders in England called for the award-winning TV series Roots, which depicts slavery in America, to be banned from history lessons.

The Scottish Qualifications Authority’s move to replace terms like “slaves” with “enslaved people” aligns with broader efforts to “decolonize” the curriculum, including sidelining national Bard Robert Burns in favor of modern writers in schools.

Supporters argue the new language emphasizes the forced nature of slavery, while critics, including historian Chris McGovern, accuse education chiefs of “distorting” history, according to Daily Mail.

“Of course children need to know the great evil of the slave trade, but this suggests it was only white people enslaving black people. It is immensely damaging.”

Director of the Free Speech Union in Scotland Fraser Hudghton said: “We have a country bursting at the seams with quangos obsessed with ‘white privilege’ and ‘unconscious bias’, which are diversions from the clear problems in our classrooms which need dealt with as a priority.”

Scottish Tory education spokesman Miles Briggs said: “The SQA has been embroiled in a series of high-profile failures. It ought to be concentrating on getting its own house in order, rather than spending resources on issues like this.”

Documents obtained through freedom of information requests reveal that the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) has formed a History Qualifications Working Group to help “decolonize” the curriculum and incorporate anti-racism into lessons.

The concept of “decolonizing the curriculum,” introduced in 2015, focuses on challenging established historical narratives tied to colonial powers.

Documents reveal that in June of last year, the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) updated its language in history, geography, and classical studies exams, shifting from terms like “slavery” and “slaves” to focus on “enslavement of people.”

This change marked the beginning of the SQA’s efforts to incorporate anti-racism and decolonized approaches into exam content.

The SQA is set to be replaced by Qualifications Scotland this year following multiple controversies, including Education Secretary Jenny Gilruth’s apology for causing “undue stress” after blank emails were sent to students on results day last summer.

An SQA spokesman said: “The SQA has updated language in our course specifications to reflect modern understanding of enslavement, colonialism and race.”

Outrage as Chinese Company “Forces” Family to Accept US$2 000 After Breadwinner Dies in Deadly Mine Accident

A tragic accident at Sino Africa Huijin Holdings Gold Mine in Old Mutare has sparked outrage after the family of Taurai Dozva, a 39-year-old mine worker, was allegedly forced to accept inadequate compensation for his death.

Dozva was killed on 10 January 2025 while working as a spotter, directing the movement of heavy mining vehicles. A 40-tonne tipper truck struck him, crushing him fatally. His employer provided $3,500 for burial costs and then offered $2,000 as final compensation to his grieving family.

“Coerced to Accept Compensation”
The Centre for Natural Resource Governance (CNRG) issued a statement condemning the company’s actions.

“After initially providing $3,500 for burial expenses, they then offered a mere $2,000 as compensation to his grieving family,” CNRG said. “The mine owners forced the bereaved wife and family representatives to sign a document acknowledging the US$2,000 as sufficient compensation, despite their clear disagreement.”

CNRG further highlighted the tragic impact on Dozva’s family, including his wife, Modester Samunda, and their three children. The youngest is only nine months old.

“This family has been left devastated and without their primary breadwinner. The sum offered is entirely inadequate given that Dozva was the sole provider for his wife and children.”

CNRG has called on the mining company to offer fair compensation, arguing that $20,000 would be more appropriate.

“This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for stronger regulations and enforcement to protect the rights of workers in Zimbabwe’s mining industry. CNRG will continue to advocate for improved safety standards, fair labour practices, and accountability measures,” the organisation stated.

The group also criticised the government’s failure to act on a previous petition filed in November 2023, which sought oversight on unsafe practices at the mine.

“Had the government acted on the petition, Taurai Dozva would not have died such a cruel death,” CNRG said.

CNRG has urged the public, civil society, and relevant authorities to demand justice.

“We stand in solidarity with Taurai Dozva’s family and call for proper compensation,” the statement concluded.

Judge Orders Minister to Pay Her Lawyers $100,000 In Legal Fees After Her Highly Publicized Divorce

Marian Chombo, the Minister of State for Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution, has been ordered by the High Court to pay an outstanding US$100,000 in legal fees.

These fees were incurred during her divorce proceedings with former cabinet minister Ignatius Chombo, a case that dates back to 2011. The High Court ruling came after a prolonged legal dispute over the unpaid amount.

Marian Chombo’s divorce proceedings
The minister had initially hired the Harare-based law firm Nyambirai and Mtetwa to handle her divorce case. Despite receiving extensive legal representation, Chombo contested the fee, arguing that US$100,000 was exorbitant. She proposed a reduced payment of US$50,000, which she deemed fair compensation for the services rendered.

Chombo also claimed to have made efforts to settle the debt by offering residential stands she obtained from the divorce settlement. However, upon investigation, the law firm discovered that the provided stand numbers did not correspond to existing properties, casting doubt on her claims.

High Court ruling for Chombo to pay her lawyers

High Court Judge Joel Mambara dismissed Chombo’s defences, ruling that they lacked merit and were inconsistent with her prior admissions and actions. He emphasized that Chombo’s signed acknowledgement of debt was binding and could not be disregarded.

“The defendant’s defenses lack merit and are inconsistent with her own admissions and actions,” stated Judge Mambara. “The acknowledgment of debt remains binding, and the court disregards the belatedly raised defenses.”

In his judgment, the judge ordered Chombo to pay the full US$100,000 or its equivalent in Zimbabwean dollars at the prevailing exchange rate. Additionally, she was instructed to pay interest from the summons date until full payment, along with covering the legal costs incurred by the law firm.

Background of the Legal Proceedings
The legal conflict dates back to June 2011, when Chombo engaged Nyambirai and Mtetwa to represent her in divorce proceedings already underway in the High Court under case number HC 4409/09. The law firm took over the case and provided comprehensive legal services, which included filing multiple applications and attending pre-trial conferences.

One notable achievement by the firm was the successful rescission of an order that had initially struck out Chombo’s plea and dismissed her counterclaim in the divorce action. This allowed for negotiations with her ex-husband, leading to a partial settlement of property disputes, finalized through a consent order on 31 August 2012.

War veteran warns against Constitutional amendments to extend Mnangagwa term

Outspoken war veteran Andrew Ndlovu has issued a strong warning to the government against attempts to amend the Constitution, arguing that such actions will lead to chaos and negatively impact future generations.

Ndlovu’s comments come in the wake of growing efforts by Zanu-PF loyalists pushing for the extension of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term beyond 2028. Despite Mnangagwa’s insistence that he has no intention to remain in office beyond his constitutionally-mandated two terms, the government has indicated that the process for constitutional amendments is underway.

In an interview with Southern Eye, Ndlovu expressed his concerns, stating that veterans of the liberation struggle fought for democracy to ensure that citizens enjoy their rights through a people-centred Constitution.

“It is wrong for anyone to violate the country’s Constitution to serve the interests of a few individuals; we fought for democracy so that people enjoy their rights. Those who are intending to change the Constitution will cause anarchy in the country and are setting a wrong precedent for generations to come,” Ndlovu said.

He added that the proposed amendments would not benefit the public and dismissed the idea of a referendum as a waste of resources.

“Those opposition party members who are joining Zanu-PF in the 2030 agenda have betrayed the name and are birds of the same feather with the ruling party. Those who want to stay in power forever end up being forced out violently; we saw this during Mugabe’s era,” he said.

Matabeleland North-based political analyst Mudenda Chilumbo echoed Ndlovu’s concerns, threatening mass mobilization if constitutional changes are pursued.

“We do not support Tshabangu [CCC interim secretary-general], he does not represent us even if he is a PR legislator for Matabeleland and he is an impostor and serving his own interests. We are mobilising on the ground, we will lead people to the streets. Any attempt to change the Constitution is a declaration of war,” Chilumbo said.

Political analyst Effie Ncube also expressed concern over the divisive nature of the issue, noting that even within Zanu-PF, the proposed amendments have caused internal strife.

“Even if opposition parties want to join, which side are they joining? President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said he is a constitutionalist and would not be there in 2030. Then those who want to extend the term of office, whose term do they want to extend? Let us hold the President accountable to his words, and he must be heard repeating them because he has said this on international platforms,” Ncube said.

The Zanu-PF National People’s Conference passed a resolution to amend the Constitution, which has divided not only the party but also the general public, as concerns continue to mount over the implications of such a move.

LIBERAL ECONOMY VERSUS PRICE CONTROL: CASE OF ZNS MEALIE MEAL- Fred M’membe

LIBERAL ECONOMY VERSUS PRICE CONTROL: CASE OF ZNS MEALIE MEAL

Economic liberalism opposes government intervention in the economy when it leads to inefficient outcomes. They are supportive of a strong state that protects the right to property and enforces contracts. They may also support government interventions to resolve market failures.

In this sense, market liberalism depicts a political ideology, combining a market economy with personal liberty and human rights in contrast to social liberalism, which combines personal liberty and human rights along with a mixed economy and welfare state

Further, Zambia is a free market economy with no price controls. Now, the issue of ZNS imposing a price for retailing in their mealie meal, does this not contradict a free market policy?

If I open a corner shop and buy my supplies from ShopRite, can ShopRite compel me to sell at a price dictated by them?

Each retailers fixed overhead costs, such as rentals, transportation costs, labour, etc, will vary from one location to the other, so is it sensible to apply uniform pricing under such circumstances?

Is there a statutory instrument or regulation that has been issued to control ZNS mealie meal pricing? If not, is the confiscation of ZNS mealie meal priced above ZNS recommended price, not an illegality?

Traders in ZNS mealie meal need clear guidance backed by the law. We ask the Minister of SMEs/ Minister of Commerce Trade and Industry to provide clear guidance on this matter.

Simply put, can ZNS impose a uniform national retail price for their mealie meal and which legal instrument are they using? Where is ZNS deriving its authority to harass small retailers trading in their mealie meal?

A good example of acceptable national uniform pricing is fuel, which is legally regulated by ERB. Do we have a similar regulation with ZNS mealie meal pricing?

“UPND Has Betrayed Zambians”- Harry Kalaba

“UPND Has Betrayed Zambians”: Harry Kalaba Tears Into Government’s Failures

In a scathing critique of the UPND government, Citizens First President Harry Kalaba has accused President Hakainde Hichilema and his administration of abandoning the people’s interests in favor of foreign investors and policies that have worsened the plight of ordinary Zambians. Speaking at a press briefing, Kalaba did not hold back in his condemnation, describing the UPND’s governance as a betrayal of the promises that brought them into power.

“They promised to fix Zambia, but instead, they have fixed themselves with luxury while the people are suffering,” Kalaba said. “What kind of leadership prioritizes giving tax holidays to foreign mining companies while taxing its own citizens into poverty? This government has sold out, and it’s clear they are more loyal to foreigners than to the Zambians who voted for them.”

Kalaba highlighted the controversial decision to reduce mineral royalties from 6% to 3% for foreign mining firms, labeling it as economic sabotage. He questioned why Zambian entrepreneurs, especially small business owners, are left to bear the brunt of heavy taxes, including the mobile money tax, while multinational corporations enjoy incentives. “We have Zambians struggling to feed their families, yet this government is busy giving handouts to foreign investors who are already taking our minerals for next to nothing. Where is the fairness?” he asked.

The Citizens First leader also took aim at the government’s handling of the energy crisis, citing the persistent load-shedding as a major failure. He argued that the lack of reliable electricity is crippling businesses and exacerbating unemployment, particularly among the youth. “This is a government that promised economic stability and job creation, yet the youths are languishing without opportunities. How can businesses create jobs when they can’t even keep the lights on?” Kalaba questioned.

Kalaba further criticized the government for the rising cost of living, which he attributed to poor economic policies and misplaced priorities. “Food prices are soaring, fuel is unaffordable, and electricity tariffs keep going up, yet they want us to believe they are managing the economy well. Zambians are not blind—we see the suffering. This government has failed,” he said. He added that the administration’s focus on dividing Zambians along tribal and regional lines was worsening the situation, calling for unity and a government that prioritizes the people.

Concluding his remarks, Kalaba warned the UPND that their days in power are numbered if they do not change course. “The people are tired of lies, tired of excuses, and tired of being told to tighten their belts while those in government are loosening theirs. Come next year, the UPND will face the wrath of the people. Zambia deserves better than this,” he said. Kalaba’s remarks reflect growing frustration among citizens who feel abandoned by the very leaders they entrusted to bring change.

MOZAMBIQUE OPPOSITION LEADER OPEN TO SERVING IN RIVAL’S  GOVERNMENT

MOZAMBIQUE OPPOSITION LEADER OPEN TO SERVING IN RIVAL’S  GOVERNMENT

January 21, 2025

(BBC) Mozambique’s main opposition leader Venâncio Mondlane has told the BBC he is prepared to serve in the government if President Daniel Chapo meets his demands to end the political crisis that has hit the country following disputed elections.

Chapo said he had set up a team that was “considering” whether his rival should be invited to join a new “inclusive” government.

The two men outlined their positions in separate interviews with the BBC, giving the impression that they were open to rapprochement after the deaths of about 300 people in post-election unrest.

Mondlane rejected his defeat in October’s election, saying the result was rigged – something that Chapo denied.

Mozambique’s highest court declared Chapo the winner with 65% of the vote to Mondlane’s 24%.

Chapo was the candidate of the ruling Frelimo party, as his predecessor, Filipe Nyusi, had to step down after serving two terms in office.

Chapo was officially sworn in as president on 15 January, about a week after Mondlane held his own inauguration to declare himself the “people’s president”.

Mondlane told the BBC that Chapo was “forced” on the nation, and was the “president of the defence force”.

Mondlane said that he had, nevertheless, decided to suspend protests for the first 100 days of his rival’s term on condition he did the following:

unconditionally release about 5,000 people detained for participating in demonstrations against the election result

pay financial compensation to the families of people killed by police during the protests and

offer free medical treatment for about 200 people injured by the police.

Mondlane said that if Chapo agreed to this, he would “open a window” for negotiations or else he would call on his supporters to renew protests.

Asked whether he was prepared to work in Chapo’s government, Mondlane replied: “Yes, if he has a genuine interest to work with me. He’s got a chance to invite me to the table of dialogue.”

In his interview with the BBC, Chapo said he wanted to “govern in an inclusive way”, and to introduce reforms to address concerns about the electoral law, human rights and freedom of expression.

He said talks were currently taking place with opposition parties represented in the new parliament, and they would later be widened to include “all segments of society”.

Chapo added that wanted to form a government that was “open to all Mozambicans”, but he wanted to stress that “the profile of the people is very important”.

Asked whether he believed Mondlane qualified to serve in government, Chapo replied: “It will depend… because there is a team that is right now considering that, on the profile of the people, their competencies, their meritocracy, the patriotism – all these pre-requisites that I’m alluding to.

“If the team reaches the conclusion that these people have the right profile, they will be part of the government. Those who do not have that profile, will not take part.”

Aged 47, Chapo was chosen by Frelimo, which has been in power since independence 49 years ago, as its candidate to rally young voters affected by high unemployment, and fed up with the party’s decades-long rule.

He told the BBC that he wanted both local and foreign investment to increase in Mozambique in order to make the economy “more dynamic”.

This would help create jobs for young people so that they could “build their homes, establish their families and stabilize their lives”.

Mondlane, 50, was seen to have considerable support among young people after he rallied them during the election campaign with the slogan “Save Mozambique – this country is ours”.

He contested the poll as an independent after breaking away from the main opposition Renamo party.

A small party that backed his candidacy won a few parliamentary seats in the election.

PAMBASHE VILLAGE HEADMEN ENDORSE UPND CANDIDATE AHEAD OF PARLIAMENTARY BY-ELECTIONS

January 21, 2025

PAMBASHE- Over 900 village headmen in Pambashe have pledged their support for UPND candidate Justin Kapema in the upcoming parliamentary by-election set for February 6, 2025.

Speaking during a stakeholder engagement organized by President Hakainde Hichilema’s Special Assistant for Political Affairs, Levy Ngoma, Chief Representative Headman Maombe expressed confidence in the government’s commitment to rural development.

“As traditional leaders, we encourage our people to vote for the UPND candidate so that we can continue receiving the much-needed development here in Pambashe,” said Headman Maombe.

Headman Chisoko, Chairperson of the headmen, praised the government for its introduction of free education, which has significantly improved access to learning in rural communities.

“We are grateful for the timely distribution of farming inputs, which has greatly benefited the people of Pambashe,” said Headman Chisoko, who also urged the government to prioritize road rehabilitation and bridge construction to connect two chiefdoms.

Levy Ngoma, Special Assistant to the President for Political Affairs, thanked the headmen for aligning themselves with President Hichilema’s vision of equitable and inclusive development.

“The New Dawn government has prioritized equal resource distribution, unlike past administrations that practiced favoritism,” said Mr. Ngoma.

Mr. Ngoma explained how the UPND government has transformed the country by implementing policies that uplift rural communities, citing free education as a game-changer for vulnerable households.

He also pointed out that the government’s approach to development focuses on ensuring no community is left behind, with an emphasis on infrastructure, health services, and economic opportunities.

“The leadership of President Hichilema is built on integrity, transparency, and a genuine commitment to improving the lives of all Zambians,” said Mr. Ngoma.

He urged traditional leaders to reject propaganda and misinformation propagated by the opposition, reiterating that the government is guided by the rule of law in all its actions.

Charles Kaisala, Chairperson for Energy, echoed Mr. Ngoma’s sentiments and emphasized the need for Pambashe to elect a representative with strong ties to the ruling government.

“Pambashe needs a leader who can directly connect the constituency to the corridors of development,” said Mr. Kaisala, urging traditional leaders to support the UPND’s agenda of unity and progress.

The village headmen collectively pledged to mobilize their communities to vote for Justin Kapema, ensuring continued development and improved livelihoods in Pambashe.

WHERE IS ZNS DERIVING ITS AUTHORITY TO HARASS RETAILERS?

WHERE IS ZNS DERIVING ITS AUTHORITY TO HARASS RETAILERS?

….asks Dr M’membe, as he reechoes that Zambia is a free market economy with no price controls

Petauke… Tuesday January 21, 2025

A debate has emerged regarding the Zambia National Service’s (ZNS) imposition of a uniform retail price on their mealie meal, raising questions about the policy’s alignment with Zambia’s free-market principles.

Dr Fred M’membe, President of the Socialist Party (SP), has called on the government to provide clarity and legal backing on the matter.
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/15e3JnfuxV/?mibextid=wwXIfr

In a statement, M’membe expressed concerns that the current approach contradicts the country’s liberal economic policies.

He explained that economic liberalism generally opposes government interventions that lead to inefficiencies, though it supports state action in protecting property rights and enforcing contracts.

“Zambia is a free market economy with no price controls,” Dr M’membe noted, questioning whether ZNS’s pricing policy undermines this principle.

Dr M’membe compared ZNS’s actions to hypothetical scenarios involving private retailers.

He asked whether ShopRite, for instance, could compel a small shop owner to sell products at a specific price despite varying overhead costs such as rent, transportation, and labor.

He argued that imposing a uniform price ignores these differences and may lead to unfair practices.

Highlighting the confiscation of ZNS mealie meal sold above the recommended price, M’membe questioned the legality of such actions.

He asked whether a statutory instrument or regulation exists to support price control in this instance.

“Is there a statutory instrument or regulation that has been issued to control ZNS mealie meal pricing? If not, is the confiscation of ZNS mealie meal priced above ZNS recommended price, not an illegality?” He questioned.

Calling for guidance, M’membe urged the Ministers of SMEs and Commerce, Trade, and Industry to address the issue.

“Traders need clear direction backed by the law,” he said, adding that transparency is essential to avoid confusion and harassment of small-scale retailers.

Dr M’membe pointed out that, unlike the fuel sector, where pricing is regulated by the Energy Regulation Board (ERB), no similar legal framework appears to exist for ZNS mealie meal pricing.

He challenged the government to clarify the legal authority under which ZNS enforces uniform pricing.

Tanker driver that overturned at Munali Roundabout was under alcohol influence – Police

POLICE in Lusaka have arrested the driver who blocked the Great East Road at the Munali traffic circle on Sunday evening after he lost control of the fuel tanker he was driving.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1FoPagH24H/?mibextid=oFDknk

According to police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, the driver, Humphrey Musonda of Emmasdale compound was still under the influence of alcohol when he was driving the Renault Tanker belonging to Horizon Haulage and loaded with diesel.

The tanker, bearing registration number CAE 4179, overturned after the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a pavement at excessive speed.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Musonda was under the influence of alcohol at the time the accident occurred, therefore, impairing his judgment and ability to control the vehicle.

The suspect sustained minor injuries and was treated at Levy Mwanawasa Hospital before being discharged and taken into police custody.

He has since been charged with two offenses under the Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2002 which are, dangerous driving, under Section 155, and driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, under Section 157.

Hamoonga said Musonda is expected to appear in court soon.

Further, Hamoonga reminded motorists that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offense that endangers lives and is punishable by law.

“The Zambia Police Service is committed to ensuring the safety of all road users and will continue to enforce traffic laws rigorously,” Hamoonga stated.

He further urged members of the public to report any incidents of reckless or impaired driving to their nearest police station or through the toll-free line 991.

Albino Grave Desecration Shocks Monze Community

0

Albino Grave Desecration Shocks Monze Community.

A horrifying incident of grave desecration has sent shockwaves through Monze District, Southern Province, as police unravel a chilling case involving the exhumation of an albino’s grave. The grave, belonging to Mr. Martin McDonald Wash, an albino who died in 2000, was discovered tampered with on October 4, 2024, at Chimpati Village under Chief Choongo. Villagers are reeling from the macabre act, which has unearthed fears of ritualistic practices in the area.

The gruesome discovery was made by Mr. Mabuto Charles, a 71-year-old resident of Chimpati Village. According to the police, Mr. Charles stumbled upon the grave with its contents exposed, including clothes and blankets. Authorities confirmed that the grave had been forcefully exhumed, leaving the skeletal remains vulnerable to theft. Investigators have since launched an in-depth probe into the incident, leaving a trail of unease among local residents who fear the involvement of dark occult practices.

In a startling turn of events, police in Chilenje, Lusaka, apprehended a suspect on January 5, 2025. Mr. Nicholas Habeenzu, a 49-year-old man from a neighboring village, was found in possession of a human arm bone. Upon questioning, he admitted that the bone was taken from Mr. Wash’s grave. Habeenzu’s confession has intensified suspicions of the crime being linked to superstitious beliefs about albino body parts being used in witchcraft rituals.

Further investigations revealed that Habeenzu did not act alone. He implicated another man, Mr. Rayford Hanyawa, a resident of the same area who is currently on the run. The duo allegedly conspired to exhume the grave for reasons yet to be fully uncovered. As Habeenzu remains in custody, police continue their search for Hanyawa, whose whereabouts remain unknown. Meanwhile, the community has been gripped by fear and outrage over the desecration of a sacred burial site.

The stolen human bone has been secured as evidence, and authorities are planning to conduct DNA tests to confirm its origin. Southern Province Deputy Police Commissioner Moono Faula Namalongo assured the public that no stone would be left unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice. However, villagers remain skeptical, with many questioning how such a heinous act could occur undetected in a tightly-knit rural community.

This disturbing case has reignited debates on the safety of burial sites in Zambia, particularly for vulnerable groups like albinos who often fall prey to ritual killings. Advocacy groups are calling for stringent measures to protect burial places and address harmful superstitions fueling such crimes. “This is not just an act of theft; it’s an attack on our culture and humanity,” said one activist.

As the investigation unfolds, the community of Chimpati is left grappling with an overwhelming sense of betrayal and grief. The desecration of Mr. Wash’s grave has not only reopened old wounds but also exposed the dark undercurrents of superstition and greed that continue to plague society.

Two witchdoctors accused of being hired to bewitch President Hichilema have been denied bail

THE two witchdoctors accused of being hired to bewitch President Hakainde Hichilema have been denied bail pending trial and they will remain in prison.

https://www.facebook.com/100064560977290/posts/1044654511029905/

Lusaka Magistrate Fine Mayambu refused to grant them bail after he heard that Jasten Mabulesse Candunde, 42, and Leonard Phiri, 43, once tried to escape lawful custody the time they were detained.

This is in a case Candunde, a Mozambican and Phiri, a Zambian, both residents of Kafewa Village, Sinda, Eastern Province, are charged professing knowledge of witchcraft and possession of charms.

They are accused of having been allegedly hired by fugitive Petauke Central lawmaker Emmanuel Jay Banda’s brother, Nelson Banda, to bewitch Mr Hichilema.

When the case came up for trial yesterday, State prosecutor Frank Kachingwe said the prosecution team was ready to proceed into trial with four witnesses but that the accused can only understand the proceedings in Chewa language.

“We will not force the accused persons a language they are not comfortable with.

“So, we will have to make sure that we find a Chewa interpreter. The master interpreter must provide a Chewa interpreter,” magistrate Mayambu said.

At this point, Mr Phiri informed the court he is unwell as he had a headache and a cough.

When asked if he had been taken to the hospital, the accused admitted before he applied for bail pending trial.

But the prosecution objected the application for bail because during investigations, the accused had not complied with police orders.

“There were difficulties, at a certain point, he was wanted to escape from custody of officers. He is not a Lusaka resident, he is based on Sinda,” Mr Sinyangwe said as the magistrate sustained the objection.

“Accused, unfortunately, your bail application can’t be granted given the reason that you stay in Eastern Province and the State has some concerns that during investigations, you made attempts to escape. So, you will remain in custody till the matter is disposed off,” magistrate Mayambu said.

Candunde also applied for bail and claimed that allegations that the duo attempted to flee are false.

But the magistrate told the accused there was no police officer in court to confirm that he never attempted to flee.

“Nevertheless, the application for bail is denied”.

The matter was adjourned to next month February 4 and 18 for mention and trial, respectively.

Magistrate Mayumbu urged the prosecution to ensure that a Chewa interpreter is availed next time.

Stop your evil plans, UPND strongman tells PF

STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

_Stop your evil plans, UPND strongman tells PF_

…says opposition party scheming to paint government black to the nation and the international community

Monday 20 January, 2025

LUSAKA – THE United Party for National Development (UPND) has information that the Edgar Lungu-aligned Patriotic Front is scheming to paint Government black in the hope of boosting its moribund political fortunes.

We are aware that the PF has assigned all its structures and influencers to scale up disinformation and misinformation on the status of human rights in Zambia. They are pushing a narrative that democratic space in Zambia is shrinking. What a blatant lie.

Such an approach to politics is regrettably deceitful, fraudulent and retrogressive, and an attempt to take us back to the dark years of Mr Lungu”s autocratic rulership.

The UPND cherishes and practises genuine democracy anchored not only on plurality of parties but also on the rule of law. These are the ideals by which we lived as an opposition political party and, which is our bedrock even as a party in government.

There is and shall never be any departure from this.

The UPND is the chief defender of human rights in Zambia, especially that it suffered the worst form of abuse when in opposition. Our members were arbitrarily arrested, some were maimed and others even killed during the cruelest  form of human rights abuse in Zambia under Mr Lungu. Zambians are still living with these scars which are freshened by every careless statement or plan by the PF. There was flagrant abuse of the law. These abuses are well-documented. That is why Zambians, in their millions, elected to change government, ushering in a new dawn full of hope and, where everyone is treated equally.

The many development and people-centred programmes being implemented by the UPND speak to our desire for a better Zambia.

Our governance is based on the respect for human rights. President of the Republic of Zambia, His Excellency Mr Hakainde Hichilema, has emphasized the need for all law enforcement agencies to respect the rule of law. This, too, is on record.

While we are not averse to criticism, we find talk of human rights abuse unfair because it is totally unfounded. It is just an abuse of the freedom of expression.

We realize that the opposition has consciously decided not to draw a line between human rights and criminality. When some members of the previous ruling party are arrested for having stolen people’s money, they deem it human rights abuse. When they involve themselves in criminal activities and are arrested, they cry wolf.

We implore Zambians to ignore the false lamentations of the opposition PF and urge them to support the UPND which has their interest at heart.

Do not be deceived, Zambia is in safe hands under the leadership of President Hichilema.

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S ADMINISTRATION WORKS TO STABILIZE ECONOMY ADMITS GLOBAL CRISIS – FRANK BWALYA

By pumulo mubita
20th January,2025.

In a recent telephone interview with Luswepo Radio FM, Frank Bwalya, Media Director General of the UPND Presidential Support Program, shed light on the government’s efforts to tackle the high cost of living in Zambia. According to Bwalya, the root cause of the expensive living conditions is the foreign exchange rate, which is earned through exports.

To address this issue, the UPND government, led by President Hakainde Hichilema, is opening more mines to export copper and earn foreign exchange. This move aims to increase the value of the kwacha and ultimately reduce the cost of living. Some of the mines being opened include Shaft 28 Dewatering, Mopani, KCM Kalengwa Mine, and others.

Bwalya also attributed the high cost of living to the drought experienced in the country, which resulted in low maize production. However, with the current rainfall, there are hopes for a better maize harvest this year.

To mitigate the effects of the drought, President Hichilema’s administration has implemented several measures, including an increment on social cash transfer and emergency social cash transfer of K800. Additionally, the government has introduced food for work programs and cash for work initiatives to support vulnerable citizens.

Bwalya emphasized that the UPND government is doing everything possible to ensure that no one dies from hunger. He also acknowledged that the high cost of living is a global crisis, affecting not only Zambia but many other countries.

The UPND government’s efforts to address the cost of living crisis are part of its broader commitment to improving the economy and the lives of Zambian citizens. As noted by Dr. Noel Chisebe, a governance and human rights activist, the government’s policy interventions have helped mitigate the economic challenges facing the country.

These initiatives include the free education policy, employment programs, Constituency Development Fund (CDF), and social cash transfers. Mr Bwalya emphasized that without these measures, the country would be facing severe issues, including increased poverty, reduced economic mobility, and decreased access to education and healthcare.

Overall, the UPND government’s efforts to address the cost of living crisis demonstrate its commitment to improving the lives of Zambian citizens and promoting economic growth and development.

CRISIS AT MINISTRY OF HEALTH:

MINISTRY OF HEALTH PERMANENT SECRETARY TECHNICAL SERVICES DR KENNEDY LISHIMPI AND OTHERS SUMMONED BY DEC FOR THEFT, FRAUD AND MONEY LAUNDERING INVOLVING GLOBAL FUND AS OTHERS ARE IN.

Drama has erupted at Ministry of Health as the famous Dr Lishimpi Kennedy Permanent Secretary Technical Services and others are summoned tomorrow by Drug Enforcement Commission over theft of money dubbed money laundering and fraud. 4 others from global fund are already nabbed and now Ministry of Health has been invaded to follow more culprits. Those summoned on the list include the following

1. Dr Kennedy Lishimpi Permanent Secretary Technical Services.
2. Dr Tambatamba Director Public Health (the one who vowed to bring down CIC with her friends).
3. Dr Wubita Lisulo Director Clinical Care.
4. Mr Raphael simfunkwe Director Finance.

Global funds director Finance Mr Patrick Nsenje  was picked on Friday with other unknown people in same related issue. The people in total are coming to about 18.

CIC has established that these people acting together with other unknown people have been siphoning money from government treasury to their private accounts to which one of the Directors has agreed. DEC will tomorrow be expecting the aforementioned individuals to appear for questioning.

Ministry of Health has been rocked with corruption and bad politics of late affecting the operations of the Ministry. As the president said the Ministry is more sick than  the people its meant to cure. We posted here last year in detail how Dr Kennedy Lishimpi is involved with dramatic affairs trying cease power and be in control. The man has been calling shots instigating transfers in favour of PF aligned individuals. We also highlighted how he reversed transfers of certain individuals removed from Ndeke House for the purpose of serving his agenda. Numerous Doctors from UTH where transfers others even today are at home in favour of his own cartels. Dr Lishimpi almost became the controlling officer had it not been for CIC exposing him after all was cooked to implicate Permanent Secretary Administration Prof Simoonga to be fired on allegations that don’t exist.

Of paramount interest are PF known individuals who publicly defame the president he assembled them to make sure they are on the list of World Bank project Coordination that involves about $50 million dollars. The going of Prof Simoonga was meant to be the jackpot for the Ministry of Health Cartel alas the celebration was shortlived more drama involving global fund has linked him as summoned by DEC we are yet to hear more.
