Youtube Sensation MrBeast Gets Engaged To Cape Town-Born Girlfriend Thea Booysen

Globally renowned YouTuber MrBeast, real name Jimmy Donaldson, has revealed that he is engaged to Thea Booysen, a South African. The 26-year-old internet star proposed to his 27-year-old partner on Christmas Day, sharing heartwarming photos of the occasion with his followers.

MrBeast, who boasts a record-breaking 340 million subscribers, posted images on January 1, capturing the moment he knelt before a beaming group of family members. Alongside the photos, he shared a lighthearted caption:
“So I kinda did a thing…”

An Intimate Celebration
According to Donaldson, the proposal was intentionally low-key and personal, despite his usual penchant for grand gestures. He described the moment in an interview, explaining how he surprised Thea during a Christmas gift exchange with both of their families present.

“I pretended to drop a large box to draw her attention before presenting the real gift – the ring,” MrBeast shared. “Then I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me.”

Thea, overwhelmed with joy, immediately said yes. She later revealed her family had been part of the planning process, making the moment even more special.

Meet Thea Booysen
Originally from Cape Town, Booysen is no stranger to the online world. She creates content under the name TheaBeasty on platforms like YouTube and Twitch, where she streams gaming content to her growing audience. Additionally, she’s a published author, releasing her debut novel, The Marked Children, in 2022.

Booysen is also highly educated, holding a law degree and an honors degree in psychology from Stellenbosch University. She further pursued a master’s degree in neuropsychology at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in late 2024.

The Love Story
The couple’s story began in 2022 when MrBeast visited South Africa. A cancelled video shoot left him with extra time in the country, where he met Booysen through mutual friends. Their initial meeting sparked a deep connection, with both noting their mutual intellectual curiosity as a key factor in their chemistry.

After their first encounter, Donaldson returned to South Africa for just one day to spend time with Booysen again. Their long-distance romance blossomed, culminating in their first public appearance as a couple at the 2022 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. By 2024, they had moved in together, though Booysen continues to divide her time between South Africa and the US due to visa restrictions.

Who Is MrBeast?
Jimmy Donaldson, known worldwide as MrBeast, launched his YouTube career in 2012 and has since become a digital icon. Known for his extravagant challenges and philanthropic endeavours, Donaldson has given away millions of dollars in cash, cars, houses, and even medical assistance to those in need.

His latest project, a Prime Video series titled Beast Games, offers contestants the chance to win over $5 million and their private island. The show draws inspiration from Netflix’s Squid Game, featuring high-stakes competition and mind-blowing rewards.

Manchester United to use Marcus Rashford in swap deal for Victor Osimhen

0

Marcus Rashford’s potential exit from Manchester United could open the door to Victor Osimhen making the move to Old Trafford, according to a new report.

The 27-year-old has been dropped from the side in recent weeks by head coach Ruben Amorim. In fact, he has not featured in a minute of football since his side’s 3-2 loss to Nottingham Forest on 7 December.

Reports by Goal.com suggested on Thursday, December 2 that Rashford is keen to see out his career in Europe, having turned down three offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia. He reportedly turned down the chance to secure a contract worth £ 675,000 per week in a bid to reclaim a spot back in the England side.

As such, a move to Napoli has now been mooted according to several media agencies in the UK and Italy. Antonio Conte’s men are currently in second place in the Italian top flight and are looking to bring in another forward to secure the league title, reports The Sun.

They are keen on Rashford and it’s thought that this could open the door for the Red Devils to sign Victor Osimhen, as part of a sensational swap deal.

Osimhen was close to making a move to Chelsea during the summer window, but the proposed move collapsed as they could not agree personal terms. During the window, the striker instead made the loan move to Galatasaray for the 2024/25 season. So far in Turkey, he has scored 12 goals and made five assists in 15 outings.

Osimhen netted 76 times for Napoli in 133 appearances, even helping them win a scudetto during the 2022/23 season.

United have scored just 21 league goals this season, with Rasmus Hojlund, particularly Joshua Zirkzee, particularly under-fire. It could be that the Old Trafford club is looking to bring in another forward in the winter window ahead of the second half of the season.

Osimhen reportedly has a £62 million release clause in his contract and any move involving Rashford would see the Manchester-born attacker reunited with former United player Scott McTominay at the Italian city.

Zimbabwe Outdrinks the World: Tops Global Alcohol Consumption Rankings – South Africa in Top Ten

Zimbabwe Leads World in Drinking, South Africa Not Far Behind

Zimbabwe has been named the world’s top consumer of alcohol per capita, according to a study by Wisevoter.com. The country recorded an average of 62.8 litres of alcohol consumed per person annually, dwarfing the global average of 16 litres. South Africa came in seventh, with an average of 29.9 litres per capita.

Wisevoter’s Insights
The study revealed the stark differences in alcohol consumption worldwide, stating, “Alcoholic beverages, those which go through the process of fermentation, have been a staple of human society as far back as records go.”

Wisevoter standardised its findings by measuring alcohol consumption in litres of pure alcohol. Heavy consumption, the study noted, carries significant risks, including liver failure and cancer.

Zimbabwe topped the list by a wide margin, with Tunisia ranking second at 36.6 litres per capita. Other countries in the top ten included Eswatini (third), Namibia (sixth), and South Africa (seventh). The prevalence of alcohol dependence in South Africa was listed at 2.4%, slightly higher than Zimbabwe’s 2.2%.

Zimbabwe Outdrinks the World: Tops Global Alcohol Consumption Rankings – South Africa in Top Ten

South Africans and Zimbabweans React
The findings sparked mixed reactions on social media. Many were surprised by Zimbabwe’s ranking and commented on South Africa’s position.

Soshangane ka Zikode (@sm_chauke) expressed doubt, tweeting, “No way Zimbabweans can beat South Africans in imbibing toxicants.”

Blessing B Chiripanhura (@SaChiri__) questioned the methodology of the study, writing, “Is it free of confounding variables? As a country, normal ways of measuring things don’t really apply thanks to how our economy is run.”

In South Africa, alcohol affordability was a focal point. Silverback (@TavonGo) noted, “The only commodity that remains stable price-wise alongside soda drinks.”

Regional Issues Highlighted
Concerns over unregulated alcohol production were raised in the broader discussion. Ndino (@CeeeClef) shared alarming details about the situation in Zimbabwe, stating, “Currently, anyone can go buy a drum of ethanol, mix it with water, add colour and flavouring, and call it brandy or gin. It’s too cheap and destroying the youth.”

South Africa, which has a legal drinking age of 18, has long grappled with the societal impact of alcohol. Analysts have pointed out the challenges of balancing cultural norms with public health policies.

Wisevoter encouraged readers to examine the full dataset, concluding, “Learn for yourself how alcohol consumption compares by country by exploring the charts.”

The study places Southern Africa in the spotlight, sparking conversations about drinking habits, economic factors, and public health across the region.

Woman alleges Diddy hired men to recruit young women for private encounters

A woman has come forward with new allegations against Sean “Diddy” Combs, claiming he hired men to scout his parties and recruit young women for private encounters, framing the invitations as an “honor.”

The woman, identified only as Lisa, shared her experience from Diddy’s high-profile “Vote or Die” Fourth of July event in 2004, which was held in partnership with Sony to promote voter registration. Speaking to The New York Post, Lisa alleged that a group of men approached select women during the party, extending offers to spend personal time with Diddy once the event concluded.

“I was there because my husband worked for Sony,” Lisa recalled. “A man approached me and another woman, saying, ‘Hey, Diddy saw you guys and wants to know if you want to hang out after this is all done.’”

Initially flattered, Lisa said her feelings shifted when the man clarified that the meeting would be “intimate.”

“That was my clue that this wasn’t just a casual invite,” she said. When she mentioned her husband, the man dismissed her and moved on. However, Lisa’s friend accepted the invitation and later expressed regret about the experience. “She never talked about it in detail but said it wasn’t a good experience.”

While it remains unclear if these alleged invitations involved Diddy’s infamous “Freak Off” parties, the rapper’s reputation for hosting wild, late-night orgies during his career peak has been widely documented.

These new claims echo allegations made by former Diddy employee Phillip Pines, who sued the rapper for sexual harassment, sexual battery, and sex trafficking. Pines alleged that between 2019 and 2021, he was tasked with preparing lavish, days-long “Wild King Nights” events, which included procuring drugs, alcohol, and sex toys, as well as cleaning up bodily fluids and other evidence afterward.

Pines’ lawsuit further detailed demands to supply “power banger sex machines” and other items for the gatherings, which he described as debauched and exploitative.

Diddy, currently jailed at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn on charges of racketeering and sex trafficking, has denied all accusations. His legal team issued a statement to TMZ, saying, “Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted or sex trafficked anyone — man or woman, adult or minor.”

For Lisa, the mounting lawsuits and criminal charges validate her decision to decline the alleged 2004 invitation. “I hear these stories, and it terrifies me. That could’ve been me. Thank God it wasn’t,” she said.

Diddy Allegedly Stalls Legal Proceedings By Refusing to Leave Jail Cell

Bad Boy Records founder Diddy, currently incarcerated on sex trafficking charges, is reportedly delaying legal proceedings in two sexual assault lawsuits.

The music mogul is accused of refusing to leave his jail cell to formally accept service of the lawsuits, according to legal filings submitted on Monday, December 30.

The claims, brought forward by attorney Tony Buzbee’s co-counsel, allege that this refusal is causing significant delays in the legal process.

The attorney has requested a postponement of scheduled court conferences originally set for January 10, proposing they be pushed back to February. Reports suggest that an agreement between the legal teams on how to proceed with the cases might be on the horizon.

While Diddy and his legal team have not addressed the allegations about his refusal to leave his cell, the lawsuits against him continue to pile up.

Among the most recent is a claim filed by a former assistant, Phillip Pines, who worked for the music mogul between 2019 and 2021. Pines alleges that during his employment, he was forced to participate in and clean up after extravagant parties, referred to as ‘Wild King Nights,’ which allegedly involved illicit activities.

The lawsuit accuses Diddy of sexual battery, sexual harassment, and sex trafficking. Pines alleges he was tasked with stocking hotel rooms with alcohol, libido enhancers, and other questionable items.

He claims these parties sometimes lasted for days and that he was responsible for cleaning up disturbing remnants, including bodily fluids, drug residue, and other explicit materials.

Pines also alleges that he was coerced into non-consensual sexual acts during these events. He claims Diddy closely monitored these encounters, adding another troubling layer to the allegations.

In addition to these civil lawsuits, Diddy faces criminal charges of racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution, with his trial scheduled for May 2025. As the cases unfold, the legal battles surrounding the embattled music mogul continue to attract widespread attention.

Mnangagwa Removes Energy Minister Amid Worsening Loadshedding

President Emmerson Mnangagwa Removes Energy Minister Amid Worsening Loadshedding

In an unexpected development, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has removed the Minister of Energy and Power Development Edgar Moyo and replaced him with July Moyo amid prolonged load shedding.

Edgar Moyo has taken over as Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, a position that was held by July Moyo.

The changes come at a time when Zimbabwe is facing severe electricity problems with households and companies going up to 20 hours or days without electricity.

President Mnangagwa Removes Energy Minister
Edgar Moyo had been appointed Minister of Energy in September 2023, taking over from Soda Zhemu, who transitioned to lead the Ministry of Mines. Now, in another strategic shift, President Mnangagwa hopes the reassignments will address the pressing electricity issues and boost overall government performance.

Announcing the changes, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya, stated they were made under subsection 1 of section 104 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

“In terms of Subsection 1 of Section 104 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, His Excellency the President, Cde. Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has reassigned the under-list. Ministers as follows:

Hon. J.G. Moyo, M.P. Minister of Energy and Power Development.

Hon. E. Moyo, M.P.: Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare.

The re-assignments are with immediate effect,” the statement read.

President Mnangagwa Hints At Cabinet Reshuffle in 2025
These reappointments come just a week after President Mnangagwa hinted at a broader cabinet reshuffle in 2025. Speaking during a Christmas Day interview with the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), the President underscored the need for reflection and evaluation among leaders.

“This is the season to reflect, not just on personal matters, but on professional performance. Those entrusted with leadership must evaluate their contributions to the people of Zimbabwe,” he said.

He hinted at further cabinet adjustments, suggesting a more comprehensive reshuffle could follow in 2025. However, he emphasised the importance of careful consideration and timing for such decisions.

“We must look at that and say this was my team, this is the team that has delivered our vision. Or does it require interrogating it? And are you going forward with that team like you were saying? No, I can’t release it now, I’ll make my statement after January 1, 2025. This is because, at this moment, everybody is celebrating Christmas. Without me, how shall we? I said don’t go and do what I will be doing. We reflect on how we’ve worked as a team and what weaknesses have I identified, what is necessary for me to strengthen, to execute government work,” he added.

Angel Reese deletes Instagram account following backlash over New Year’s Day outfit

The Chicago Sky forward appeared to have taken down her account after she made her New Year post showcasing her in a cut-out animal-print dress with a tulle halter top.

The posts went on to spark online criticism from lots of fans who were displeased with her outfit and deemed it ‘too revealing.’

The posts remained visible on her TikTok account as of Thursday.

However, Angel Reese’s Instagram handle (@angelreese5) was no longer accessible, and it left fans speculating about what really led to that action.

“What y’all done did to my girl Angel Reese to make her deactivate her Instagram?” one user wrote on X.

Others stood behind her despite the backlash and questioned the point of fans criticizing the WNBA star’s outfit preference.

”Why are yall mad at Angel Reese for looking good as fuck? Lmao”, one user wrote on X.

”Angel Reese bothers people because she doesn’t fit the stereotypical tomboy dressed basketball players. She literally isn’t doing anything but having media visibility and being cute dressed like a normal woman her age”, another said.

The 22-year-old WNBA All-Star is yet to comment publicly on the deactivation, and it remains unclear how Reese celebrated the New Year.

Just last week, Reese shared her ambitious goals for 2025 in a video where she unveiled her 2024 vision board. One of her biggest aspirations is to become a billionaire.

“I’m not a billionaire yet, but we’re still working on that. My mind is on billions, so I’m still on that,” she said.

She also reflected on her accomplishments in 2024, which included attaining millionaire status.

Angel Reese is a key figure in the WNBA and continues to inspire fans with her confidence and ambition despite the backlash.

Arsenal Need To Show Consistency To Win Premier League Title – Arteta

0

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has revealed that the team must show more consistency in order to end their Premier League title drought ahead of the clash against Brighton on Saturday.

The Gunners are currently six points behind table-toppers Liverpool as they bid to win their first Premier League title since 2004.

Arsenal finished second behind Manchester City in the last two seasons, but Arteta has called on his players to improve their standards to beat Liverpool to the title.

He said: “We have to show the same level of consistency and a bit more, because last year we have been the best team in the league, broken various records and still haven’t won a major trophy, so something is missing.

“It’s going to be very thin, small details, you can pick up certain games and situations. But in the end, we’re so close and we just have to flip that coin to the other side to make it happen.

“That’s only going to happen if we do what we have to do and what we can control. The rest is out of our hands.

Arsenal are bidding to win their first Premier League title since 2004 but are set to be without Bukayo Saka until March after the England winger suffered a hamstring injury against Crystal Palace last month.

The Gunners are expected to be without Bukayo Saka, who has been ruled out of action for two months. Arteta has opened up on how he intends to replace the English star.

He said: “There’s not one player that’s going to play nine games in a row in that position, it’s impossible.

“We need more threat, we need more players fit and rotation in that unit. In relation to that, we will make decisions and as well, players’ performances, that’s simple.

The Arsenal boss said he was unsure whether the club would strengthen in the January transfer window.

“The focus is on the players that we have,” he said. “When something is in the market that we can afford and believe is going to have a real impact on the team, we have to be open to that possibility.

“We have the ability to change the squad in the windows, but at the moment the focus is on what we have.”

Arteta also confirmed that Kai Havertz is expected to return for the clash against Brighton on Saturday.

He said: “I think so, yes. The ones with illness, I think are going to be OK. They will train today and if everybody is fine then they will be available.

“(Raheem Sterling) is starting to do some stuff on the pitch so that is great news. Let’s see how he progresses next week and we will see if he is available for the following week.

“Ben (White) is still a few weeks away and (Takehiro) Tomiyasu has done some stuff on the pitch but we have to see. It has been a long-term injury and we have to see how quick he progresses and how he reacts.”

R440 000 Fraud: Zimbabwean Man Who Scammed SA Mining Company, Skips Court Judgement

Zimbabwean Man Who Scammed SA-Based Mining Company Of R440 000 Flees Court Judgement
A Zimbabwean man accused of defrauding a South African mining company of R440 000 has fled justice. Calton Mudiwiwa (39), who was facing fraud charges, failed to appear in court for judgement.

As a result, Harare Magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje issued a warrant of arrest for Mudiwiwa after he did not show up. The case stems from a deal in 2021, where Mudiwiwa allegedly swindled Davure Mining.

Masimba Mukarati, the company’s manager, said,

“We entrusted him to assist in importing a Toyota Hilux Legend 50 double-cab. Funds were transferred to a South African account based on his advice.”

R440 000 Vehicle Deal Goes Wrong
Davure Mining, which operates in South Africa and Zimbabwe, transferred the money to Wish Worthy Investments. Mudiwiwa had assured the company that he would handle the purchase and delivery of the vehicle.

However, after the payment was made, the vehicle never arrived.

“He kept telling us the car was on the way,” Mukarati testified. “We provided proof of payment for his reference, but nothing materialised.”

The court heard that Mudiwiwa became evasive when questioned about the delay. Mukarati eventually reported the matter to the police, leading to Mudiwiwa’s arrest.

Warrant of Arrest Issued
Mudiwiwa’s absence from court on judgement day has raised suspicions about his intentions. “A warrant of arrest has been issued after his failure to attend court proceedings,” Magistrate Mambanje confirmed.

Prosecutors allege that Mudiwiwa deliberately misled the company to gain access to the funds. The authorities are now actively searching for him.

Police have appealed to the public for assistance.

“If anyone has information about his whereabouts, they should report to the nearest station,” a spokesperson stated.

Davure Mining, which has interests in mining, agriculture, and cattle ranching, is seeking justice for the financial loss caused by the alleged fraud.

Mnangagwa announces a significant Cabinet reshuffle

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has announced significant changes to his Cabinet and the leadership of the Central Intelligence Organisation. Two Cabinet Ministers have been reassigned, and a new Director-General for the President’s Department has been appointed.

Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister July Moyo has been reassigned to lead the Ministry of Energy and Power Development. Edgar Moyo, the former Minister of Energy and Power Development, will now take over as the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare. These changes are effective immediately.

Additionally, Dr. Fulton Mangwanya has been appointed as the new Director-General of the Central Intelligence Organisation. This announcement was made by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr. Martin Rushwaya, in two separate statements issued yesterday evening.

“In terms of Subsection 1 of Section 104 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, His Excellency the President, Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has reassigned the under-listed Ministers as follows: Hon. J.G. Moyo, M.P. Minister of Energy and Power Development (and) Hon. E. Moyo, M.P: Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare,” said Dr. Rushwaya. “The re-assignments are with immediate effect.”

Minister July Moyo, who had served as the Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister since 2023, assumes the Energy Ministry at a time when Zimbabwe is grappling with power supply challenges. These issues are primarily due to low water levels at Kariba Dam caused by the El-Nino phenomenon, which severely impacted Southern Africa last year.

Despite these challenges, the new Energy Minister takes charge at an optimistic moment. Zimbabwe has embarked on 18 electricity generation projects projected to deliver up to 4,000 megawatts (MW) of power within the next two years. These initiatives aim to make the country self-sufficient in electricity and potentially allow for surplus exports. Currently, Zimbabwe generates 935MW of electricity—700MW from Hwange, 185MW from Kariba, and 50MW from Independent Power Producers—against a national demand of approximately 1,800MW.

In the intelligence sector, Dr. Fulton Mangwanya has been appointed as the Director-General of the President’s Department, replacing Ambassador Isaac Moyo. Ambassador Moyo had held the position since December 8, 2017, after serving as Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to South Africa and the United Kingdom of Lesotho.

Dr. Mangwanya brings extensive experience to his new role, having served as the Director-General of Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority since August 2017. He succeeded Edson Chidziya in that position. Known for his commitment, adaptability to evolving technologies, and results-driven approach, Dr. Mangwanya has been described as a dedicated team player.

Born on January 13, 1967, Dr. Mangwanya began his career as a farm manager in the 1980s before joining the President’s Department in January 1988. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to enhance the operations of the Central Intelligence Organisation.

These changes underscore President Mnangagwa’s commitment to addressing pressing national issues and optimizing government efficiency.

Ja Rule: Fans React To Singer’s Resolve To Be Petty In 2025

Top star Ja Rule says he plans to be “petty” in the year 2025. This is one of his New Year resolutions, shared on social media recently.

Fans have since reacted to the post on his official X (Twitter) account, reminding the rapper of his age and why he must stop acting childish.

The musician responded to one of the comments by saying: “I’m technically 12 I can be as petty as I want…” referring to his birthday falling on February 29.

Another user told him to be “petty” with 50 Cent, who allegedly bought all tickets to one of Ja Rule’s concerts so the show could be “empty.”

The Always On Time hitmaker responded to the allegation, asking the user to prove that 50 Cent indeed bought all tickets to the show.

Meanwhile, Ja Rule would, this year, go on a tour dubbed Where the Party At Tour with Nelly to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Hot in Herre rapper’s debut album, Country Grammar.

A host of artists including Eve, are set to be part of the event on selected dates.

Earlier this year, Ja Rule was denied entry to the UK due to his criminal record, leading him to cancel his scheduled gigs in the country.

In March, he expressed sympathy for Diddy, who is facing many lawsuits from different personalities.

In November, he made significant strides in his mission to enhance education in Ghana. He shared photos on Instagram, pointing to the progress of work on a school structure he had started.

The project is a collaboration with Pencils of Promise, a non-profit dedicated to improving educational infrastructure in underserved areas.

He is constructing a six-unit classroom block at Nuaso Anglican Primary School to improve the learning environments of Ghanaian children.

He first announced the initiative when he visited Ghana in April to break ground, expressing his excitement about contributing to education in the country.

The project adds to the rapper’s history of philanthropic efforts, particularly in education. In 2002, he co-founded L.I.F.E. (Love Ignites Freedom & Education), a nonprofit focused on empowering young people through learning opportunities.

We are 14 months away and you are still waiting for a mysterious “Plan B”, get real- Chilufya Tayali

EEP President Chilufya Tayali

WHEN I WILL BE READY FOR PRESIDENCY, THIS IS HOW I WILL LINE UP MY CAMPAIGN EQUIPMENT

Some damn people will already start arguing with me that, this is not Zambia, well… yeah… I am just showing an example.
Don’t fool yourselves with a few numbers you see on social media that you can win Presidency in Zambia. You need much more than vuvuzelas on social media. They are important to create a perception, but the real work is on the ground.

Zambia’s ICT population is just about 2.5 million of which only about 10 percent (250,000) are eligible voters, so if you want take all of them as your voters, you would still be very far from 3 million votes target if you want to beat the 50%+1 mark.

Votes are not on social media but they are spacely scattered over 752,000km square with over 12,000 polling stations.
Electorates in Zambia are physically and materially persuaded to vote for a candidate, which means, one has to come up with means to reach out (connect with Voters) for them to cast that vote for you.

Rigging is very much part of our electoral practices, so, good planning must take it into account and budget adequately for it.
This means preparing electoral agents to about 20 people per polling station to protect the votes. If you multiply 12,000 by 20 you are talking about over 240,000 people fully registered, committed and paid for this exercise.

You need to invest in security (real security people) with training and equipped to respond to state machinery when they want to rig.
Anyway, I am not here to give you free consultancy on preparing and executing an effective campaign and winning an election, but just to show you that, I am not stupid, I know what I am doing.

I don’t bother to contest Presidential elections, because I need more than social media presence to turn around things.
This is also to open the minds of those who think, we still have time to prepare for 2026 elections and defeat President Hichilema.
We are 14 months away and you are still waiting for a mysterious “Plan B”, get real🤷

Yet again, It’s not enough to have an endorsement from whoever, you need proper planning and resources to pull it off, otherwise we might be late already.

As for me, don’t think I am damn, I am preparing for my time and I know it may take time, but I will be there.

ALICK BANDA SHUNS STATE HOUSE MEETING
…as mingalato goes to the Vatican

By Mast Reporter

The Mast has established that the much-publicised end-of-the-year meeting that President Hakainde Hichilema held with the Apostolic Nuncio to Zambia on Tuesday this week was supposed to be attended by the Archbishop of Lusaka Archdiocese Alick Banda, but the outspoken prelate refused to honour the request to do so.

Meanwhile, State House sources have revealed that following the exclusion of former president Edgar Lungu from the 2026 election, President Hichilema’s next priority is the ousting of Archbishop Banda from his position using the current Nuncio.

According to well-placed sources at both foreign affairs and State House, the Tuesday meeting was organised by Minister of Foreign Affairs Mulambo Haimbe.

“What happened is that sometime back, the Apostolic Nuncio to Zambia, Archbishop Gian Luca Perici, wrote to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Hon. Haimbe requesting for a meeting over the possible establishment of the Order of Malte. As you know, the Nuncio is the Holy See’s diplomatic representative in Zambia and diplomats must go through the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations whenever they want to address an issue. Instead of providing a written response, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations went to meet the Nuncio at the Nunciature on two separate occasions, the 18th of December and on Monday this week, the 30th of December, when the two had lunch together. Now this is unusual in diplomatic circles because it should be the other way round where the Nuncio goes to see the Minister at the Ministry,” the sources observed. “When they met, Hon Haimbe, who is a practising Catholic, stated that the government has no problems with the establishment of the Order of Malta, but it had a problem with the Archbishop of Lusaka Dr Alick Banda. The Nuncio promised the Minister to do something about it. The Minister also informed the Nuncio that President Hichilema had specifically requested that Archbishop Perici should come to State House with Archbishop Banda so that the Nuncio could reconcile the two.”

The source stated that Archbishop Banda refused to accompany the Nuncio to State House for a variety of reasons.

“When they met for the second time on 30 December this week, the Apostolic Nuncio told Hon. Haimbe that he had tried his best to persuade Dr Banda to accompany him to deliver the letter to President Hichilema, but the Archbishop of Lusaka refused for a number of reasons. One was that the government was yet to apologise for calling him the Lucifer of Zambia. Two was that the government is yet to apologise for the recent cordoning of the Cathedral of the Child Jesus by the Zambia Police Service during the 10th memorial service of late president Michael Satac,” the sources said. “If you remember, both concerns have been raised by the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops, but the government has to date not addressed them. Because of these and other outstanding or unresolved issues, Archbishop Banda shunned the meeting at State House.”

The sources added that the desire to have Archbishop Banda present at the State House meeting was to create an impression that relations between the Catholic Church and the government were excellent.

“President Hichilema was very disappointed that Archbishop Banda snubbed the meeting. The Nuncio told the government that ‘I really tried my best to bring him along, but he refused’. The whole event had been planned on the premise that Archbishop Banda would attend the meeting. That is why you guys from the media were invited because the event was meant to create an impression of excellent relations between the State and the Catholic Church in Zambia. And what better way to show this than a meeting featuring President Hichilema and Archbishop Banda,” the sources said.

“In the morning, my colleague Clayson [Hamasaka] even phoned some journalists at private media houses asking them to not only send reporters to cover the very important event but also preserve the front-page headline for the President. So, when Archbishop Banda did not show up, everyone here [at State House] was disappointed because it affected the script we had planned. You could even tell from the body language of the President when he addressed the press before you guys were excused from the meeting that he was downcast”, the source said.

Meanwhile, sources who attended the closed-door meeting disclosed that President Hichilema bitterly complained to the Nuncio that Archbishop Banda does not like him.

“In the closed-door meeting, Archbishop Banda was the main subject. First, the President complained that Archbishop Banda had in May 2024 refused him to speak at a funeral mass for the late cabinet minister Aaron Milner.  Although he acknowledged that the archbishop was away at the time, the President felt that Dr Banda must have instructed the priest in charge to refuse the president to speak during the funeral mass of Mr Milner,” the sources said.

The sources said the Nuncio promised to see what he could do about Archbishop Banda.

“After ECL [former president Edgar Lungu] was disqualified from the 2026 election, President Hichilema was so happy. He even mentioned that his next priority is to lobby the Holy See to remove or transfer Archbishop Banda and then we will be home and dry. I don’t know if you are aware that he had even sent some cabinet ministers to go and lobby the Catholic Bishop of Mongu and two other dioceses to confidentially petition the current Nuncio to ask the Holy See to remove Archbishop Banda or have him transferred to Rome,” said the sources. “During the meeting on Tuesday, the new Nuncio, who drank more wine and listened more than he spoke, promised to see what he can do to help ensure that Archbishop Banda is removed. He said he is going back to Rome in January for an operation but will submit a report to Rome covering the misgivings the President has expressed against Archbishop Banda. He also pledged to seek audience with the Pope once he is back in Italy so that he can brief him in person.”

Rhodesia wasn’t better, but Zimbabweans are asking why their lives are worse

The ongoing debate on social media, where many Zimbabweans express nostalgia for Rhodesia, is as controversial as it is revealing.

For a nation born out of a protracted liberation struggle that promised emancipation and prosperity, the sentiment that “Rhodesia was better” is both unsettling and deeply tragic.

However, a closer examination of these statements reveals that they are not about yearning for the return of colonialism, nor are they romanticizing life under Rhodesia, which was undeniably oppressive.

Instead, these sentiments are a scathing indictment of the ZANU-PF government, the self-proclaimed liberators, who have spectacularly failed to deliver on their promises of freedom and prosperity.

This phenomenon draws uncanny parallels to George Orwell’s Animal Farm.

In Orwell’s allegorical novel, the animals overthrow their human oppressors, only for the new leaders—the pigs—to become indistinguishable from the humans they replaced.

Zimbabwe’s post-independence trajectory mirrors this betrayal of revolutionary ideals.

The promises to end oppression, foster equality, and deliver prosperity have been replaced by inequality, corruption, and repression.

Frantz Fanon, in his seminal work The Wretched of the Earth, foresaw this tragic irony.

He observed that “the liberation of the nation is one thing, and the liberation of the people is another.”

Zimbabwe gained independence in 1980, but the economic liberation of its people remains elusive.

Fanon also issued a stark warning, noting that “the bourgeoisie, which is the inheritor of colonial power, will seek to maintain its privileged position and thus become an obstacle to the development of the nation.”

This has played out in Zimbabwe, where the ruling elite has not only maintained but expanded its privileges, amassing unimaginable wealth while the majority of citizens languish in poverty.

These realities were also foreseen by Dr. Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo, affectionately known as “Father Zimbabwe,” who lamented in his autobiography The Story of My Life: “The hardest lesson of my life has come to me late. It is that a nation can win freedom without its people becoming free.”

Zimbabwe’s current state is a far cry from the optimistic promise of independence, when the country was described as the “jewel of Africa.”

With its fertile land, well-educated populace, and vibrant industries, Zimbabwe seemed poised for greatness.

Yet today, over 70 percent of the population lives below the poverty datum line, with half earning less than $2.50 a day—a figure classified by the United Nations as extreme poverty.

The nostalgia for Rhodesia among some Zimbabweans stems not from an affection for colonial rule, but from a sense of betrayal and relative deprivation.

During Rhodesia, the colonial government ensured functional infrastructure, healthcare, and education—though these services were limited to a privileged minority.

One could have never dreamt of anyone, whether Black or White, sleeping on the floor in a public hospital due to a shortage of bedding.

Today, over 2,000 women die annually from cervical cancer, in a country with no functional cancer machines, while another 2,500 perish during childbirth due to inadequate facilities.

Zimbabwe’s largest hospital still operates with a single maternity theater built in 1977 during the Ian Smith regime.

The economy was stable, and jobs were available even to a significant population of Black Zimbabweans.

My own mother and father were a general nurse and school teacher, respectively, whose salaries afforded them a very decent livelihood.

In stark contrast, our nurses and teachers today cannot even afford to buy a house and have been reduced to renting a couple of rooms.

Zimbabwe’s roads today are riddled with potholes and the industrial sector has collapsed.

This comparison is not about justifying Rhodesia’s racial oppression, but about questioning why life for ordinary Zimbabweans has become so unbearable under their supposed liberators.

The root cause of Zimbabwe’s decline lies in the corruption and mismanagement of the ruling elite.

Despite the nation’s vast natural resources—including minerals, fertile land, and wildlife—these assets have been plundered rather than utilized for the public good.

Scandals such as the missing US$15 billion in diamond revenue and billions of dollars unaccounted for in public funds, as revealed in Auditor-General’s reports, illustrate the scale of the problem.

Today, communities residing in regions with vast mineral deposits are wallowing in abject poverty, yet billions of dollars being earned through the sale of diamonds, black granite, gold, platinum, and lithium, amongst many others.

At least during Rhodesia, such communities thrived, where mining companies developed these areas by establishing well-resourced towns with decent housing for workers, good hospitals and schools as well as numerous amenities as sports facilities.

Today, once-thriving towns like Redcliff have been turned into ghost towns as a direct result of the looting and mismanagement at state-owned enterprises, such as ZiscoSteel, which were run into the ground.

Corruption at state-owned enterprises like ZESA has also crippled essential services such as electricity supply, plunging the country into nearly daily power outages lasting up to 18 hours.

The corruption and mismanagement surrounding Zimbabwe’s land reform program stand as one of the most damning indictments of the betrayal of the liberation struggle’s ideals.

At the core of the war for independence was the equitable redistribution of land—a promise that resonated deeply with a population that had suffered decades of colonial dispossession.

However, rather than fulfilling this noble objective, the program became yet another tool for enriching the political elite at the expense of the masses it was meant to uplift.

Millions of British pounds pledged under the Lancaster House Agreement to fund an orderly and fair redistribution of land were misused, with little accountability for how these funds were allocated.

Instead of creating a broad-based agricultural revolution that could benefit the majority, the most fertile and productive land ended up in the hands of top government officials, ZANU-PF loyalists, and military personnel.

A stark example is the reported ownership of 21 farms by Bona Mugabe, the daughter of the late President Robert Mugabe.

If the offspring of a president could amass such an extraordinary number of farms, one can only imagine the extent of land hoarding by other members of the ruling elite.

The broader statistics paint an even grimmer picture.

Out of the controversial land redistribution program of the 2000s, only 23,500 Zimbabweans benefited from A2 commercial farms, while 360,000 were resettled on smaller A1 smallholder plots.

When measured against an estimated rural population of 5 million, this means a mere 7.12% of Zimbabweans received land, leaving 92.88% landless and confined to the overcrowded and under-resourced communal areas that had been their colonial inheritance.

This glaring disparity underscores how the program was manipulated to serve the interests of the elite while neglecting the overwhelming majority of ordinary citizens.

This gross inequity reflects a betrayal of the liberation struggle’s fundamental goals.

The revolution was fought to dismantle the structural injustices of colonialism, but the outcomes of an independent Zimbabwe suggest that the new political class merely replicated the oppressive systems they overthrew.

The dreams of equitable distribution of resources, rural development, and national prosperity remain unfulfilled, with the majority of Zimbabweans left to struggle in poverty while the ruling elite thrive on ill-gotten wealth.

This tragic irony serves as a stark reminder of how far Zimbabwe has strayed from the ideals that inspired its fight for freedom.

These failures have eroded public trust in the government and left many Zimbabweans questioning how a nation so rich in resources can be so poor.

Beyond economic hardships, the psychological toll on Zimbabweans has been devastating.

In the 1980s and 1990s, young people aspired to become doctors, engineers, and business magnates.

Today, many dream only of affording basic necessities like school fees and meals.

This shift represents not just economic decline, but a stunting of the collective imagination.

When people grow up in an environment where poverty and failure are normalized, they lose the ability to envision a better future.

Fanon noted that colonialism stunts the imagination, but post-independence misrule has had a similar effect.

The ruling elite in Zimbabwe has become indistinguishable from the colonial oppressors they replaced.

They live in mansions, drive luxury cars, and enjoy overseas vacations, while ordinary citizens queue for water, and struggle to afford basic essentials.

This betrayal is encapsulated in the government’s recent actions, such as spending millions on luxury vehicles for officials while civil servants are expected to survive on below poverty salaries.

The contrast between the lives of the elite and the suffering of the masses underscores the tragic reality that the liberation struggle’s promises have been abandoned.

For Zimbabweans to reclaim their country, they must first reclaim their ability to dream big.

This begins with recognizing that the current state of the nation is not inevitable—it is the result of deliberate choices made by those in power.

The liberation struggle was not fought for the benefit of a select few but for the freedom and prosperity of all Zimbabweans.

Achieving this requires a second revolution—not one fought with guns, but one grounded in unity, courage, and an unwavering commitment to justice and accountability.

The ongoing debate about whether Rhodesia was better is not a call for the return of colonialism.

It is a desperate plea for the promises of independence to be fulfilled.

Dr. Joshua Nkomo, Frantz Fanon, and George Orwell have all warned us about the dangers of unaccountable leadership.

Zimbabweans must take these lessons to heart and demand a nation where every citizen—not just the elite—can live with dignity, hope, and the ability to dream big.

This is not a call to romanticize Rhodesia, but a call to question why the sacrifices of the liberation struggle have not translated into better lives for the people.

Zimbabweans must remember what independence was for and hold their leaders accountable to the ideals of justice, equality, and prosperity that inspired the struggle for freedom.

Only then can Zimbabwe rise from its current state and reclaim its place as the true “jewel of Africa.”

UNHCR: 3,000 flee poll violence in Mozambique

0

The UN refugee agency, UNHCR, and the Government of Malawi say they have recorded around 2,000 people who crossed the border from Mozambique, and another 1,000 who entered Eswatini in the past week fleeing the post-election chaos in the neighbouring country.

UNHCR said Tuesday that it was deeply alarmed by the situation in Mozambique, where post-election unrest has forced thousands to flee their homes, especially after the country’s Constitutional Counsel (CC) confirmed on December 23 that the ruling Frelimo party won the disputed presidential election held in October.

Presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane, supported by the Podemos party, rejected the results proclaimed by the highest court in the land, and his supporters, along with other opposition parties, have been organising protests that are violently thwarted by the police.

Decide Electoral Platform, an NGO, says some 277 have been killed since October 21, 2024, and another 586 have gunshot wounds from the protests.

The UN agency said some camps for the internally displaced are overcrowded, with 1,000 people sharing a single latrine, sparking fears of disease outbreak and spread.

In Eswatini, the Malindza refugee reception centre, originally designed for 250 people, is now housing more than 1,000.

According to Chansa Kapaya, UNHCR’s regional director for Southern Africa, the refugees and civilians are facing immense risks, losing their livelihoods and relying on humanitarian assistance.

“While we are grateful for the generosity of Malawi and Eswatini, immediate support is crucial to tackle the worsening crisis and prevent further suffering,” she said.

On Monday, outgoing President Filipe Nyusi ruled out possible foreign mediation to resolve the post-election crisis in the country, advocating dialogue and local solutions without “schemes, arrangements and interests.”

During a meeting with leaders of the political parties with representation in the next parliament, President Nyusi said that “the solutions for Mozambique can only be found by us Mozambicans.”

Nyusi met with the leader of the Mozambican National Resistance (Renamo) Ossufo Momade, president of the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM) Lutero Simango, and Frelimo’s Daniel Chapo, the declared winner of the presidential vote.

The Optimist Party for the Development of Mozambique (Podemos), which backed Mondlane, was represented by Albino Forquilha, while the extra-parliamentary New Democracy (ND) was represented by Salomão Muchanga.

According to the CC, Mr Chapo won the presidential contest with 65.17 percent of the votes, followed by Mr Mondlane with 24.19 percent of the votes. Renamo’s Momade got 6.62 percent and MDM leader Lutero Simango managed 4.02 percent of the vote.

Last week, UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed concern about the post-election violence, which has resulted in the loss of lives, and the destruction of property, and called all Mozambicans to seek a peaceful resolution, in a constructive manner.

Man who k!lled 14 in New Orleans new year attack discussed plans to k!ll his family and join ISIS

The suspect in the deadly New Orleans attack on New Year’s Day “proclaimed his support for ISIS” and made chilling threats to kill his family in videos recorded ahead of the massacre, the FBI confirmed.

Christopher Raia, the FBI’s deputy assistant director of its counter-terrorism division, said at a press conference on Thursday, January 2 that they are reviewing disturbing videos of the suspect, 42-year-old Army veteran Shamsud-Din Jabbar, where he discussed plans to kill his family in recordings made before the attack.

New Year’s celebrations in New Orleans ended in tragedy when the suspected terrorist drove into a crowd of revellers, killing at least 14 innocent people and injuring more than 30 others. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene after a shoot-out with police.

Raia shared a timeline of the suspect’s movements before carrying out the attack, detailing how he planted two IED devices in coolers in the bustling area before he rammed into the crowd in a pickup truck on Bourbon Street at around 3:15 a.m.

Man who k!lled 14 in New Orleans new year attack discussed plans to k!ll his family and join ISIS in chilling recordings

The FBI in its statement confirmed he had an ISIS flag in his truck as he plowed into the crowd.

Raia said there was “no definitive link” between the New Orleans attack and the Tesla Cybertruck blast in Las Vegas after earlier reports that investigators were probing a possible connection. He also updated that investigators no longer believe the suspect had accomplices.

The suspect, 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar, was a U.S. citizen from Texas who was “100 percent inspired by ISIS,” Raia told the press conference on Thursday, adding that Jabbar said in video footage that he joined the terror group before this summer.

A timeline of the suspect’s whereabouts was given by Raia at the press conference, where he confirmed Jabbar collected the rented pickup truck on December 30 and drove from his home in Houston, Texas on the evening of December 31 to New Orleans in Louisiana.

Sometime between New Year’s Eve and the early hours of New Year’s Day, the suspect planted two IED devices in coolers which were both functional. They were later rendered safe, Raia confirmed.

The suspect exhibited “very intentional behaviour” when he ploughed into the crowd on Canal and Bourbon Street, New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said at a press conference

“This man was trying to run over as many people as he could,” she said.

This particular terrorist drove around onto the sidewalk and got around the hard target. We did have a car there. We had barriers there. We had officers there. And they still got around,” she said later in the day.

After crashing into the crowd, he exited his vehicle and fired at police officers, striking two. Both officers are in stable condition, Kirkpatrick said.

Law enforcement returned fire and the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene, the FBI said.

FBI Investigators on Thursday said they are reviewing a series of disturbing footage where the suspect revealed plans to kill his family and “proclaimed his support for ISIS”, Raia confirmed at the press conference.

The footage was filmed at night while the suspect was driving from his home in Houston to New Orleans.

Videos were time-stamped at 1:29 a.m. and again at 3:02 a.m. on January 1, Raia said. In the footage, Jabbar explained how he originally planned to harm his family and friends, but worried the news headlines would not focus on the “war between the believers and disbelievers,” Raia added.

In the videos Jabbar referred to dreams that he had about becoming inspired to join the terror group, officials told CNN.

According to ABC News, Jabbar served in human resources and information technology roles in the Army from 2007 to 2015, during which he deployed to Afghanistan from February 2009 to January 2010.

He continued to work as an IT specialist in the Army Reserve from 2015 to 2020, the spokesperson said. His listed jobs were not direct combat roles.

Jabbar was honourably discharged from the Army after he was caught drunk-driving on base, the Washington Post reported. He was charged in February 2015 and pleaded guilty.

The suspect had earlier enlisted in the Navy, in August 2024, though he never went to boot camp and was discharged from the delayed entry program one month later, according to a Navy spokesperson.

In a resurfaced YouTube video posted in 2020, Jabbar says he was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas, and spent a decade working in the U.S. military before becoming a Realtor in the Houston area.

Chivayo says he gave ex-wife US$200k for Christmas holiday and shopping

Controversial tenderpreneur Wicknell Chivayo says he gave his ex-wife Sonja Madzikanda US$100 000 to fund her Christmas holiday to Vietnam and Japan and another US$100 000 “for their shopping and for her to share with her family.”

Chivayo was responding to a Facebook post by the Bloom Wellness Community page which threw a word of caution at him saying although he had moved on with new girlfriend Lucy “Lulu” Muteke;

“Remember, your children, Munana and her brother, are watching, and they need their father’s love and stability.

“I believe that your beautiful ex-wife was an amazing partner to you, and I’m willing to offer advice on how to co-parent and maintain a healthy relationship with her for the sake of Munana and her brother,” the post read.

Chivayo responded to the post with his own lengthy write up suggesting that “Women are good at playing victim and will never publicly acknowledge a man’s efforts.”

“Thank you for your open letter, which I have received and sincerely appreciate. It is always heartwarming to know that there are people out there who also care and take their time to offer such advice,” he began.

“Life is a journey filled with TOUGH decisions and while I strive to do what’s best for myself and my family, I understand how my CHOICES may raise questions or concerns. Let me take this opportunity to address them and provide CLARITY.

“Leaving my ex-wife was undoubtedly one of the MOST DIFFICULT decisions I have ever had to make in my life. Not only because I was used to her presence, but I love my children John and Minana INCREDIBLY.

“However, our marriage faced IRRECONCILABLE differences that made it impossible to continue. She struggled to get along with my family, including my DEAR late mother and all my 6 sisters, and the constant fighting became too overwhelming for me.

“It reached a point where I felt that the person I was fighting for was not making an effort to support me when the world had turned its back on me.

“This made the marriage IRRETRIEVABLY broken down. Despite these challenges, she remains a GREAT mother and a good person, and I continue to look after her exceptionally well and respect her as such.

“We now co-parent very well and I ensure that my children are well taken care of. Women are good at playing victim and will never publicly acknowledge a man’s efforts.

“For instance, I recently paid TWO MILLION rand for their Christmas holiday, where they traveled to Vietnam and Japan and on top of that, I gave her an additional ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS USD cash for their shopping and for her to share with her family.

“I know my kids are having a WONDERFUL time with their mother, and this brings me great PEACE and joy. I try speak to them every single day through video calls to ensure they always feel my LOVE and presence, no matter the distance.

“Ngaambo bvunza vamwe Vakadzi vakarambana ne varume kunze uku kuti vakambonzwawo mari dzakadai kwavo here…🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

“That said, I CANNOT remain single forever. As a man, I long for peace and love in my home—a place where I can come back to someone who supports me, COOKS for me, and offers companionship.

“While I respect and cherish the relationship I share with my ex-wife as co-parents, my new partner is someone who i feel aligns with my values and brings joy and PEACE into my life. She is VERY BEAUTIFUL in my eyes, with no negative history.

“I will ignore all the blatant lies that she was friends with my ex-wife or used to buy cakes from her. After all said and done it’s inevitable ma USD cash ne MOMBE dzinotsika dziri kuenda kwa MUTEKE ku farm kwa Baba vake ku MARONDERA.

“Ndichatsvaga ari ma pedigree ma BRAHMAN chaiwo. Vamwe vachiti KWETE iye JESU achiti HONGU so let’s see who wins…

“MORE IMPORTANTLY, she has embraced my FAITH semupostori weMASOWE, which is very pivotal to me. We have a shared vision for the future and judging from our relationship so far, we headed towards nothing else than MARRIAGE because we truly understand and complement each other.

“My decision was made consciously and WITHOUT any external influence and now with God’s grace I hope i have chosen someone who I believe will stand by me and be my partner in every sense of the word.

“I hope this response adequately addresses your concerns and offers you the clarity you sought. Once again, thank you for your kind words and advice—it is always appreciated. Happy Holidays !!!!!” Chivayo ended the post.

The source of Chivayo’s wealth though remains a source of great debate with accusations he is exploiting his proximity to President Emmerson Mnangagwa to loot the state run parastatals and commissions.

Chivayo was for example was corruptly awarded a US$40 million tender for the supply of election materials to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

He was also accused of defrauding the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) of US$5,6 million in the controversial Gwanda Solar Project which has failed to take off.

Although he was later cleared by the courts there is lingering suspicion his closeness to the president played a part.

Fireworks in Hawaii home spark deadly explosion, killing at least three

0

An explosion set off by fireworks has killed at least three people in a residential neighbourhood in Honolulu, Hawaii, marking a tragic start to the new year on the island of Oahu. Two were pronounced dead on the scene.

The blast happened just after midnight local time (10:00 GMT) on Wednesday, as revellers celebrated the arrival of New Year’s Day. As many as 20 others were injured.

The explosion took place at a house, and drone footage of the blast shows a profusion of fireworks erupting into a column of smoke against the night sky.

Jim Ireland, the director of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department, said he saw many burns and “blast-type injuries” when he arrived at the site of the explosion, including from shrapnel.

“I’ve been in the EMS [emergency medical services] for over 30 years, and this is probably the worst call I’ve ever been on, as far as just the immense tragedy and amount of patients and the severity of the injuries,” Ireland said.

He explained that the injuries required a “massive response”. Ireland’s department deployed 10 ambulances, and he noted the presence of ambulances from the federal fire department as well.

The explosion took place not far from a joint base for the United States Air Force and Navy. Fire engines from nearby Pearl Harbor responded to the scene.

At a news conference, Justin Brownfield, a representative for the Honolulu Fire Department, said his agency also sent eight units and two battalion chiefs. He described “massive wreckage” at the site.

“The initial units on scene were confronted by dozens of victims, including many who were critical,” Ireland said, describing his initial impressions of the scene.

The US government frequently warns about the risks associated with amateur firework use during the holiday season.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission, a government agency, reports that eight deaths and an estimated 9,700 injuries were attributed to firework use in 2023 alone.

No details have been revealed about the cause of Wednesday’s fireworks explosion in Honolulu.

But Hawaii Governor Josh Green called out the use of unpermitted fireworks in a statement responding to the blast.

The use of aerial fireworks, as well as ground-based fireworks like sparklers and fountains, are considered illegal in Oahu.

“Because combating illegal fireworks has been a priority, we established the Illegal Fireworks Task Force last year to identify and disrupt supply chains,” Governor Green said in Wednesday’s statement.

“It has seized 227,000 pounds [103,000kg] of illegal fireworks to date, but incidents like this remind us of the ongoing challenges we face.”

The mayor of Honolulu, Rick Blangiardi, likewise issued a press release to local media pledging to pursue stiffer penalties against those who use fireworks illegally.

“This incident is a painful reminder of the danger posed by illegal fireworks, which put lives at risk, drain our first responder resources, and disrupt our communities,” Blangiardi said in the statement.

“Year after year, a minority of individuals recklessly endanger us all. This is absurd and unacceptable. My administration remains committed to working with federal and state agencies to shut down this illegal firework trade once and for all.”

Tonse Alliance Govt to pardon and promote police officer who  freed detainees to celebrate New Year- Peter Sinkamba

By Peter Sinkamba

Zambia Police Needs More Courageous Officers Like Titus Phiri

As the People’s Pact-Tonse Grand Alliance, if the Police officer who released detainees on New Year’s eve at Kanyama Police will be punished by his superiors, when we form Government in 2026, we shall pardon and promote him for heroism and respecting authority of the President and the Constitution.

The Constitution of Zambia provides that no person shall be deprived of his liberty without due cause, and that if warranted to do so, that person must be taken to court promptly.

President Hakainde Hichilema has on several occasions directed the police to take detainees to court promptly or otherwise release them. However, the Police Command has ignored the directives of their Commander in Chief with impunity. Citizens like “Why Me” and several others have remained in police custody for almost one year without being brought before court. It is probably the first time in living memory in Zambia that the Police Command has publicly defied directives of the President with impunity in this manner.

In the case of Titus Phiri, it is clear that the detainees were mostly ‘shishita’ and other ‘petty crimes’ suspects. For, if they were dangerous crimes suspects, the Police Command would have issued a warning to the public to take extra care.

Considering that the following day was New Year, it is also clear that the suspects concerned were going to spend more than statutory period in custody because the Police hardly release suspects on holidays.

Every defender of the Constitution must commend and support the actions of Titus Phiri. The country needs more officers like him in the police, with courage to defy unconstitutional behaviour of their colleagues and seniors.

We implore other officers to follow suit. If they are punished for such gallant acts, we will reprieve and honour them next year when we form government.
Well done Titus Phiri.

There Is No Hope In President Lungu. The Best He Can Do Is Save Himself Before He Faces Even More Trouble- Chilufya Tayali

By Chilufya Tayali

PEOPLE NEED HOPE, BUT IT HAS TO BE #REAL HOPE NOT #FALSE HOPE

As we come to the end of the year 2024, I would like us to thank God and look forward to 2025 with hope, but we have to hold on to hope that will materialize into something, not the illusions we have had since 2021 when some people believed that President Lungu will win the general elections but lost like no any other President ever lost, especially to the opposition.

Today, a number of people are calling me names for stating the truth that most of you know but are scared to say it.

PRESIDENT EDGAR LUNGU WILL NOT BE ON THE BALLOT UNLESS A MIRACLE HAPPENS. THE ELIGIBILITY CASE SEALED THAT AND IT IS NOT EASY TO UNDO IT.

This is exactly what happened in May of 2021 when I said that President Lungu was digging his own political grave by supporting hooliganism after the clash of cadres at the PF secretariat.

Because PF was in power, then, they arrested me and treated me like a common criminal. Thanks to Mutembo Nchito who put up a spirited fight to have me released. I am also grateful to my friends at News Diggers, I will never forget, and I will live to appreciate you.

I am very sure, today if PF were in power, they would have been looking for me to jail me for stating the facts.

UPND is no exception in this; when I state facts as they are, they unleash the police on me, which has rendered me a refugee.

Make no mistake, NO ONE CAN USE ME, I AM AN INDEPENDENT THINKER AND I SPEAK FROM MY CONSCIENCE.

Yes, I restored the Alebwelepo agenda because President Hichilema did not deliver on his promises (AND I STILL STAND BY THAT).

The Alebwelepo agenda needed serious resolve and input from various circles starting with President Lungu himself. I recognize and appreciate many young people, especially on social media, who jumped on this crusade. I apologize to those who are disappointed with the current state of affairs.

WHO IS TO BLAME FOR THE FAILURE OF ALEBWELELAPO AGENDA?

I really wish I could freely speak about this issue but out of respect, allow me to just say, I wish President Lungu acted more decisive and clinical, but he has always been running from behind.

Trust me, I am more frustrated than most of you because this agenda, rendered me a refugee and the prospect of coming back home sooner looks very bleak.

I know some of you might blame President Hichilema and his UPND Govt, but let’s not forget that, “Politics Teyabano iyoo”. Mind you, President Lungu himself played his own “Mingalato” when he had the instruments of power.

I am not encouraging dictatorship, but let’s be honest, politics anywhere, including in America, involve “Imingalato”. The challenge is for the opposition to fight and win.

Unfortunately, so far we are losing hands down. And if the status quo remains like this, we should forgot about change of Govt in 2026.

A lot of you have hope in President Lungu, that he can do something to change things, but I am sorry I have my doubts because at the moment he is at the weakest point.

Yes, I also had hope, but I can write a book on how things have failed to happen due to attitude, selfishness, tribalism, lack of resources, cowardice, lack of planning, indecisiveness and mediocrity.

I know some of you don’t want to hear this, but at least I don’t want to pretend that, I am with you in your false hopes. I am not a two faced person like many of those giving you false hopes.

Whether you hate me or like me, I want to be clear: there is no hope in President Lungu. The best he can do is save himself before he faces even more trouble.

Some of you are saying, let President Lungu endorse someone, but the last time ECL had to pick someone to run with him for Presidency, he brought Prof. Nkandu Luo and the results of that are common to many of us. How sure are you that, he will bring out a person that will be viable to win 2026 elections against President Hichilema?

It is also not just a matter of endorsing someone, a good leader must first prepare the ground and do it at the right time, not when it is too late.

Honestly, how will whoever President Lungu chooses campaign 16 months before elections? When will resources be raised? Who will be around this person? Who will be his MPs and the entire electoral structure to ensure that, votes are not just cast in their favor but protected?

Currently, there are no resources or a clear plan, yet President Lungu is discussing Plan B. When will it be implemented, and how effective can it be, considering President Lungu’s way of doing things, even when he was in power.

I am sorry, I know I am hurting a lot of people’s feelings and I am risking a lot, because the people that help me are President Lungu’s friends and I know some of them might even withdraw their support, but my God will not let me down, because what I am saying here is the truth.

Whatever I am saying here, must not be misconstrued that I am supporting UPND, or I have gotten anything from them (I am actually very broke right now and this article might just render me cashless). I am just giving you facts so that, you don’t live in false hope.

I apologize to President Lungu and all those who feel offended about what I have said here, however, you must appreciate me for being honest with you. Besides, I am not calling out your weaknesses personally, which would be damaging, so even as you scheme things against me, think twice.

Some people might say, why not talk in private, well…. some people don’t like to be challenged face to face, if anything they cut you when they think you have dissenting views.

SO WHAT IS THE SOLUTION?

This is what I will be discussing tomorrow at 20:00hrs

I WISH YOU A PROSPEROUS 2025!!!

The UPND Government: A Legacy of Compromising Institutions and Silencing Dissent- Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

The UPND Government: A Legacy of Compromising Institutions and Silencing Dissent

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

Under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, the United Party for National Development (UPND) government has systematically undermined Zambia’s democratic foundations. The judiciary, police service, parliament, and the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) have been subjected to political interference, eroding the checks and balances essential to good governance. Worse still, the government has now turned its sights on the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB), specifically targeting Archbishop Alick Banda of the Lusaka Diocese. These are not the actions of a democracy—they are the hallmarks of a dictatorship in the making.

The Judiciary Under Siege

The judiciary, a cornerstone of democracy, has suffered from blatant interference by the executive. The establishment of an Economic Crimes Court by directive of President Hichilema exemplifies this troubling trend. While addressing corruption is laudable, the manner in which this court was created flouts constitutional processes.

Zambia’s Constitution mandates that the creation of new courts requires parliamentary approval and broad consultation, none of which occurred. The president’s unilateral action undermines the judiciary’s independence, violating Article 91(2) of the Constitution, which explicitly prohibits executive interference.

Moreover, the judiciary’s handling of politically sensitive cases has been inconsistent and deeply troubling. The Constitutional Court’s reversal of its earlier rulings on former President Edgar Lungu’s eligibility, despite a lack of new evidence, reeks of political manipulation. Such capricious decisions undermine public confidence in the courts and erode the rule of law.

The Zambia Police: Enforcers of Oppression

The Zambia Police Service, once tasked with safeguarding the rights of all citizens, has devolved into a tool for political repression under UPND rule.

Arbitrary Arrests and Intimidation

Opposition leaders, activists, and journalists are regularly arrested without cause, sending a clear message: dissent will not be tolerated. Investigative journalist Thomas Zgambo, youth activist Jason Mwanza, and the Kaumba brothers are just a few examples of individuals detained for their critical views. These arrests are not isolated incidents—they are part of a broader strategy to silence critics and stifle dissent.

Suppression of Political Opposition

The police routinely block opposition parties from holding rallies, citing dubious security concerns, while UPND events proceed unhindered. This blatant double standard undermines the constitutional right to assembly and freedom of expression. The Patriotic Front (PF), Socialist Party, New Heritage Party, EFF party and Citizens First Party have been particularly targeted, with their events frequently disrupted or denied permits.

Excessive Force

The police’s heavy-handed response to peaceful protests, including the use of tear gas and baton charges, reveals a disturbing pattern of state-sponsored violence. These tactics are designed to intimidate citizens into submission, discouraging public participation in democratic processes.

A Dysfunctional Parliament

Under Speaker Nelly Mutti, the National Assembly has become a partisan tool rather than a platform for democratic debate. Her selective enforcement of parliamentary rules has deepened divisions within the legislature and undermined its credibility.

Rubber-Stamping Executive Decisions

Instead of holding the executive accountable, parliament has become a rubber-stamp institution, approving controversial policies without meaningful scrutiny. The lack of legislative oversight over the creation of the Economic Crimes Court is just one example of this dereliction of duty.

Silencing Opposition Voices

Opposition MPs frequently face bias and exclusion, further eroding the legislature’s role as a check on executive power. Parliament should be the voice of the people, but under UPND rule, it has become an echo chamber for the ruling party.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia: A Tool for Political Interests

The ECZ, an institution meant to ensure free and fair elections, has lost public trust due to its partisan behavior.

Disregard for Judicial Authority

The ECZ’s decision to proceed with the Kawambwa by-election despite a court order staying the process was a flagrant violation of judicial authority. Such actions undermine the credibility of Zambia’s electoral system and raise serious questions about the ECZ’s impartiality.

Partisan Allegiances

Under its current leadership, the ECZ has demonstrated a worrying alignment with the UPND, making decisions that disproportionately benefit the ruling party. This bias threatens the integrity of Zambia’s electoral processes, casting doubt on the fairness of future elections.

Targeting Religious Leaders

The UPND’s targeting of Archbishop Alick Banda and the ZCCB marks a dangerous escalation in its campaign against dissent. Religious leaders have historically played a critical role in promoting accountability and justice in Zambia. By attempting to silence the Church, the UPND is attacking one of the few remaining independent voices advocating for the people.

Undermining the Church’s Role

The ZCCB’s criticism of government policies has made it a target for UPND reprisals. Efforts to remove or transfer Archbishop Banda are not just attacks on an individual but on the Church’s broader role as a moral compass and advocate for social justice.

A Clear and Present Danger

The UPND’s systematic erosion of Zambia’s democratic institutions reveals a government more focused on consolidating power than serving the people. The judiciary, police, parliament, and ECZ have been co-opted, and even the Church is not spared.

These actions are not isolated missteps—they are deliberate moves to establish authoritarian rule. If left unchecked, the UPND’s authoritarian tendencies will extinguish Zambia’s hard-won democracy.

A Rallying Cry for Democracy

Zambia’s democratic future hangs in the balance. The time to act is now. If Zambians do not rise to the challenge, there may soon be no democratic Zambia left to defend. The power lies with the people—let us use it to protect our nation and secure a brighter future for generations to come.

Why Bafokeng & Bakgatla Ba Kgafela In  Are Richest Tribes In Africa

By Peter Sinkamba

1️⃣ BAFOKENG are the richest tribe in Africa with assets valued at P56 billion, R31 billion Sovereign Wealth Fund, 40% of JSE Listed Royal Bafokeng Platinum, Receives R870m Mining royalties annually, Built R450m Private Combined School, Has TVET Education Centre, Refurbished Phokeng Mall, Owns a Stadium

2️⃣ BAKGATLA BA KGAFELA are the second richest tribe in Africa valued at P32 billion. Bakgatla have lot of land with minerals and leased land to Sun City resort. They also own stadium, malls, television station and lot of valuable infrastructure

These tribes are the richest in Africa not because they hold more land than any other tribe from Botswana, Lesotho, South Africa, Namibia and Zambia. They are the richest because their chiefs negotiated with developers on their land (mining and other developments) deals that bring about widespread benefit to their people, including but not limited to 50℅ equity in those investments.

After we took Zambian chiefs (late Senior Chief Chiwala, Chief Nkana, Chiefteness Malembeka and Chief Lumpuma) in 2007 to meet the Bafokeng King in Rusternburg, on return the chiefs and we worked closely with the then Attorney General (now His Lordship Chief Justice Mumba Malila); the House of Chiefs; and the late President Mwanawasa, to enact Section 136 of the Mines and Minerals Development Act 2008. Section 136 provided for mineral royalty tax sharing.

Mwanawasa died soon after the enactment of the Mines Act. Sadly, his successors refused to implement the law, and actually repealed Section 136 in 2015.

Since 2008, more than 13 million tonnes of copper worth US$100 billion have been produced. By refusing to implement Section 136, and subsequently repealing it, tribes in mining areas have been robbed of their royalties or inheritance running in billions of dollars.

After the repeal, we embarked on a campaign to legalize cannabis and industrial hemp for medicinal, industrial and economic benefits. The campaign was successful leading to the enactment of the Cannabis Act No. 33 of 2021 and Industrial Hemp Act No. 34 of 2021. The cannabis and industrial hemp laws would have assisted central government, the chiefs, and their subjects, generate in excess of US$36 billion per year. Sadly, the two laws have not been implemented by successive governments- the PF and UPND. In similar fashion, the tribes of Zambia that own arable land have been deprived of billions of dollars.

The elections are due on 13th August next year. Like the Bafokeng and Bakgatla, tribes in mining and arable areas of Zambia have an opportunity to elect a president who has proven ideas of widespread enrichment.

The People’s Pact and Green Party, with a leader with proven widespread ideas of community enrichment will launch Plan C. The plan is rooted in the green economy agenda for widespread enrichment, to grow the economy, heal the nation, and end poverty.

Vying for leadership without viable economic ideas has proven disastrous to our country. You have tried the rest. The year 2026 must be time to entrust the country in the hands of leaders with the best ideas for widespread enrichment.

Go green!
Go Plan C!
Go for the People’s Power!
Go for widespread enrichment!

Panama’s Ambassador Eloy Alfaro de Alba said, “the Security Council played a crucial role in our national history when it held a formal meeting for the second time out of its headquarters in Panama City in 1973, under the able stewardship of our then ambassador to the United Nations, Aquilino Boyd.”

Somalia’s Ambassador Abukar Dahir Osman for his part said, “as a proud member State of African Union, the Arab League and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, we are profoundly conscious of the sacred trust placed in our nation and the weight of responsibility that accompany this mandate.”

HOW DONCHI KUBEBA INSPIRED THE CHIPOLOPOLO TO AFCON VICTORY

HOW DONCHI KUBEBA INSPIRED THE CHIPOLOPOLO TO AFCON VICTORY

Written by; Puncherello Chama

Dandy Crazy was a legend of Zambian music, with numerous hits over the years.

Some Zambians may not know that Dandy was also a huge football fan and, if I’m not mistaken, a Power Dynamos supporter (stand to be corrected).

One of the indelible marks that Dandy Crazy left on Zambian football is that his hit song  Donchi Kubeba ( Don’t Tell Them) was used as an informal theme song for the Chipolopolo players during their 2012 AFCON campaign.

To understand why this is so, we have to go back in time to 2012.

Before the 2012 AFCON, few Zambians believed the Chipolopolo could win the tournament, despite the fact that Chris Katongo and his teammates were one of the most experienced squads, second only to Ivory Coast and Ghana.

Many international media outlets dismissed Zambia’s chances, not even ranking the Chipolopolo among the dark horses.

At the same time, back in Zambia, Donchi Kubeba dominated the airwaves and public spaces, becoming a cultural phenomenon.

A number of Chipolopolo players were fans of Dandy Crazy and adopted the Donchi Kubeba dance for their goal celebrations and giving it a football twist. However, the song carried a deeper meaning for the team and became an integral part of their AFCON campaign.

It was a clear message among the players: Don’t Tell Them —Zambia would silently but surely win the 2012 AFCON.

Zambia wasted no time in showcasing this connection. Within 12 minutes of their opening game against a star-studded Senegal side, eight Chipolopolo players celebrated the first goal by dancing the Donchi Kubeba dance together.

The finger to the lips at the end of the celebration signifying “Shhhh” became a signature for the players and was used throughout the campaign.

The Chipolopolo went all the way to the final, lifting the trophy in a poetic moment that saw Dandy Crazy himself traveling to watch the match.

I vividly recall coming out of the house after the final and seeing people on the streets and cars passing by, with some blasting the Donchi

Kubeba anthem.

We sang along in unison, celebrating Zambia’s historic AFCON victory.

What a song, and what a musical icon.

RIP Dandy Crazy.

Somizi Mhlongo Faces Backlash After His Cozy Picture With Former Big Brother Housemate Mich Mazibuko Goes Viral

South African media personality Somizi Mhlongo has found himself in the spotlight once again after a video of him sharing a cosy moment with Mich Mazibuko, a former contestant from Big Brother Mzansi season 4, went viral.

The footage has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many accusing Somizi of inappropriate behaviour.

Somizi, who had a highly publicized and contentious breakup with his ex-husband Mohale Motaung, is now facing allegations of targeting younger men. The 24-year-old Mich Mazibuko appeared alongside Somizi in the video, with the duo seemingly enjoying drinks and each other’s company. The video has ignited rumours of a potential romantic relationship between the two, dividing social media users. Many online commentators have criticized Somizi, accusing him of exploiting his position to pursue younger individuals. Public Reactions on Social Media

The video has triggered a wave of mixed reactions on social media platforms and below are some of the comments:

@Abuti_Milli

@Temptingtony

Honestly, he didn’t put a Gun on their head and forced him to be his new flame?

“Dating Somizi right after Big Brother screams social climbing, not victimhood. Both know what they’re doing—they’re using each other.”

@moesuttle

“Somizi’s inner circle needs to confront him about grooming younger men. He’s nearing 60 but pursuing someone born in the 2000s? Disgusting!”

@tebogosthza:

“Not excusing Somizi’s actions, but let’s not ignore how many young gay men prefer older partners.”

This incident has ignited discussions about power dynamics in relationships, especially when one party is significantly older and more influential than the other. While some argue that both individuals are consenting adults capable of making their own choices, others believe that the power imbalance cannot be ignored.

Tanzania: More relief for motorists as fuel prices drop further in January

0

Fuel prices have continued their downward trend into January 2025 in Tanzania
Fuel prices have continued their downward trend into January 2025, marking a significant reduction compared to December 2024, with the main factor being a favourable shift in foreign exchange rates.

According to a statement from the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (Ewura), fuel prices at major ports in Tanzania have fallen.

Starting from Wednesday, January 1, 2025, the price of petrol at the Dar es Salaam Port dropped from Sh 2,898 per litre in December to Sh 2,793 per litre this month.

Similarly, petrol prices at the Tanga Port saw a reduction, from Sh 2,905 per litre in December to Sh 2,800 per litre in January. In Mtwara, the price of petrol also decreased, from Sh 2,908 in December to Sh 2,866 per litre this month.

On the diesel front, the prices have also dropped. The price of diesel at the Dar es Salaam Port has fallen from Sh 2,779 per litre in December to Sh 2,644 in January.

At Tanga Port, diesel prices dropped from Sh 2,792 in December to Sh 2,656 in January, while at the Mtwara Port, the price fell from Sh 2,851 in December to Sh 2,716 in January per litre.

Ewura’s Director General, Dr James Mwainyekule, explained in the statement that the fluctuation in prices is linked to changes in foreign exchange rates and import costs.

“The cost of fuel (FOB) and premiums are paid using foreign currencies, including the US Dollar. For January 2025, the average exchange rate has decreased by 11.27 percent,” the statement read.

Dr Mwainyekule also noted that while the import costs for fuels have risen slightly in some areas, this increase has been outweighed by the reduction in foreign exchange rates.

Specifically, import premiums for petrol rose by 5.45 percent, diesel by 13.01 percent, and kerosene by 8.82 percent at Dar es Salaam Port.

However, at Tanga and Mtwara ports, premiums have decreased by 6.67 percent for petrol and by as much as 10.33 percent for diesel.

These price changes reflect a combination of global market factors and local adjustments in the fuel supply chain.

Pleasure P Claims He Co-Wrote Lil Wayne’s ‘Lollipop’ With the Late Static Major; Says He Deserve $28 Million

leasure P, a popular member of the group, The Pretty Ricky, has claimed that he played a key role in the production, release, and success of Lil Wayne’s 2008 hit single “Lollipop.”

This, he noted, was before the release of his solo debut the following year.

The singer recently held an Instagram Live session while taking a drive, and told the person next to him to turn on “Lollipop,” which was No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for five non-consecutive weeks.

“I wrote that,” Pleasure P, real name Marcus Cooper, declared before mentioning the song’s co-writers, including Wayne, Rex Zamor, Mack Maine, and Jim Jonsin. “I need my f*g plaque for this song, bro … Y’all can do something about this shit but nobody care about me no more.”

The singer then claimed that Rex has his publishing and “name” on the chart-topping hit, which appeared on Lil Wayne’s sixth studio album, “Tha Carter III.”

Pleasure P then went on to say that he is owed $28 million for that project and therefore expects to be given what he deserves.
“And I can’t get my just due,” Pleasure continued. “Before my first album came out, I wrote this song with Static [Major].”

Major, who died in February 2008 from medical complications, reportedly mentored Pretty Ricky and wrote songs like “Your Body” and “Juicy,” which he was featured on.

After congratulating Wayne for his reunion with legendary New Orleans rap group Hot Boyz, Pleasure declared he’s “part of his biggest record.”

In May 2024, Pleasure P appeared on the podcast “R&B Money,” where, around the 1:18:00 mark of the video, he claimed that he and Static were at Miami’s Circle House Studios and wrote “Lollipop” to a beat CD that Jonsin sent them.

The singer chose “Did You Wrong” as the lead single of his 2009 debut album “The Introduction of Marcus Cooper.”

Many netizens fail to comprehend how the same act can invoke two different responses from the same artist.

The Fine Line Between Performance and Safety
What was meant to be a night of music and celebration has now become a focal point for conversations about artist safety and professionalism. The Greater Lagos Countdown 2025, initially envisioned as a grand celebration to ring in the New Year, highlights the increasing need for robust security measures at large-scale events to ensure both performers and attendees can enjoy the festivities without incident.

Who Is Vybz Kartel’s Fiancée? Everything To Know About Sidem Ozturk

With Vybz Kartel back home, there have been several questions surrounding his next moves. We know that he got engaged from behind bars, popping the question to Sidem Öztürk, a 32-year-old woman with an impressive academic background. Since the two began dating, Öztürk has been behind the scenes, helping Kartel with his social media, uplifting his spirits, and holding him down personally and professionally. However, there have been plenty of questions surrounding who she is.

Sidem Öztürk, a 32-year-old woman of Kurdish descent, was born in Turkey. She moved to the UK at a young age and has lived in London for over 29 years. Öztürk pursued her education in psychology, sociology, and philosophy and reportedly worked as a social worker with vulnerable adults and children, according to Fox 5 News.

Öztürk’s relationship with Vybz Kartel began in an unconventional manner. While she’s been a fan of his music, the two began corresponding in 2015. However, they finally met in 2019 once she traveled to Jamaica. The relationship blossomed, and eventually, he popped the question. “How it happened was. we were just calling each other ‘hubby’ and ‘wifey” and he was like, ‘We’re heading toward marriage so you calling me hubby, or me calling you wifey is not serious enough. So you’re my fiancée, we’re going to get married,’” she said.

https://twitter.com/Vybz_Official/status/1744665283007058268?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1744665283007058268%7Ctwgr%5Ea9c14e55035f0d927300da4e0f98fed006037de5%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fd-2727939630384365322.ampproject.net%2F2410292120000%2Fframe.html

The couple’s relationship has faced significant challenges due to Kartel’s imprisonment, though that’s clearly changed now that he’s been released. She explained how they weren’t able to have any physical contact when she visited him as a barrier separated them.

“Well, there’s glass between us so we don’t get to touch each other. We just look and talk through some little holes that are in the wood beneath the glass, so it’s not perfect, but we’re making the most of what we can,” she told Lisa Evers. “Oh the man I love, he’s so witty, even when you’re angry or you’re upset about something, he knows how to turn that around, and he can just make you laugh, and make you see the brighter side of things.”

Despite these obstacles, Öztürk remains devoted to Kartel and has even relocated to Jamaica to be closer to him. As he was away, she managed Kartel’s Instagram account and handled various business transactions on his behalf.

Public Attention & Criticism

Öztürk’s engagement with Kartel has attracted both support and criticism from the public. While some fans of Kartel have expressed their approval, others have been harsh and even hateful towards her. Öztürk, however, remains unfazed by the negativity and stays focused on her relationship. She has expressed her belief in the authenticity of their bond and dismissed accusations that their relationship is a publicity stunt. Furthermore, she was the muse for Kartel’s EP, True Religion.

Vybz Kartel and Öztürk can finally be together, now that he’s home. Following a decision by the UK Privy Council, Vybz Kartel was released from custody after his conviction was overturned. Justice Marva McDonald-Bishop of Jamaica’s Court of Appeal and two other judges decided against a retrial. Their decision highlighted procedural issues in Kartel’s original trial.

Immediately after he was freed, he shared videos of himself and Öztürk celebrating his freedom. They’re clearly making up for lost time. No word on when they will be getting married but his release could indicate that it could happen in the near future.

CCC Backs Zanu-PF Bid to Extend President Mnangagwa’s Term to 2030?: Charlton Hwende Clarifies

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Member of Parliament for Kuwadzana East, Charlton Hwende, has refuted allegations that opposition legislators, including himself, are supporting Zanu-PF’s push to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term in office to 2030.

Zanu-PF recently announced plans to amend the Constitution to allow President Mnangagwa to remain in power beyond 2028, despite the president’s public reluctance.

CCC Backs Zanu-PF Bid to Extend President Mnangagwa’s Term to 2030?
Former Chivi South legislator Killer Zivhu added fuel to the fire by claiming on X (formerly Twitter) that all opposition MPs have agreed to this proposal. Zivhu posted a picture of Hwende alongside a caption that read:

“Good news for the nation: all opposition MPs have reached a consensus, agreeing to support the president’s extended term in office until 2030. Furthermore, they have proposed extending the term of office for MPs to up to 8 years. This development is to foster continuity.”

Hwende Denies Allegations
Hwende quickly responded, calling Zivhu’s claims outright lies. He also demanded that Zivhu stop using his image to spread misinformation.

“What do you get from spreading such lies? Stop using my picture you can support the 2030 Agenda on your own without abusing my picture. Thank you,” Hwende wrote.

Hwende Reveals If He’ll Run For President
In further comments, Hwende clarified his position on running for higher office. Responding to a question about a potential presidential bid, he candidly stated:

“I have no capacity to win a Presidential Election. Zvoto Zvinemazera kwangu ndokuhu MP ikoko”

The debate over whether opposition MPs are supporting Zanu-PF’s term extension plans remains unresolved, with both Hwende and Zivhu holding conflicting positions. Only time will reveal where the truth lies.

Giuliani pleads for judge to excuse missed court deadline — because he didn’t check email

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani said he missed a deadline in a civil judgment against him because he didn’t check his email.

Business Insider’s legal correspondent Jacob Shamsian posted a recent electronic submission to the judge from Giuliani on X showing the excuse.

According to Giuliani, he missed important correspondence involving the civil case against him because emails were going into a folder which he rarely checks. He had been sued by a grocery worker who claimed false accusations made by the former New York City mayor got him arrested.

“I write to seek leave from the Court to accept the attached answer even though it was filed after the Court-allotted deadline,” he wrote.

“I have a reasonable excuse for the untimeliness of my answer, and it certainly was not intentional.

“On Nov. 21, 2023, I filed my reply in further support of my motion to dismiss the Amended Complaint. The case remained completely dormant for a full year, and then a year later, on Nov. 21, 2021, the Court decided the aforementioned motion to dismiss,” he continued.

“The matter was not on my radar,” Giuliani pleaded with the judge, “and I did not receive the Court’s decision and order on the motion to dismiss, and its subsequent order for initial conference to be held on Dec. 12, 2024. I had not been checking the email address assigned to this case as frequently during that time period, and the ECF filings were being sent to another folder, apart from my main inbox.”

He promised that the issue had been corrected.

The judge had asked Giuliani to file a motion for default judgment, said Shamsian.

Giuliani, who is struggling with more than one legal matter, was sued by Daniel Gill, a grocery store worker who patted the ex-Mayor on the back during a media appearance and, according to court documents, said, “What’s up, scumbag?”

Giuliani alleged he was attacked and assaulted by Gill, leading to his arrest.

Gill then sued in civil court, saying Giuliani “participated in an unlawful conspiracy … to deprive [Gill] of his right to liberty, to his right to speak freely without retribution, and to be free from unreasonable seizures, in violation of his rights under the first, fourth and 14th amendments to the constitution of the United States”.

Retired Commissioner General Godwin Matanga Defy President Mnangagwa & Returns to Work? ZRP Clears the Air

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has responded to claims that former Commissioner General Godwin Tandabantu Matanga reported for duty on Thursday, insisting he had not received a dismissal letter.

Retired Commissioner General Godwin Matanga Returns to Work?
The allegation, shared by COZWA on X (formerly Twitter), suggested that Matanga showed up at the office despite being officially retired by President Emmerson Mnangagwa as of December 31, 2024.

The report alleged that Matanga showed up at his office in uniform, insisting he hadn’t received an official letter of dismissal. According to the post, Matanga claimed to have only learned about his retirement from social media. COZWA also claimed that ZRP’s Support Unit, Romeo Troop, was on standby to forcibly remove him if necessary.

“Breaking News:- CGP Matanga reported to his office today in his police uniform, his argument is that he wasn’t served with a letter of dismal, he only saw the letter on social media.Police support unit, Romeo troop on standby now planning to remove him from the office by force,” the post which has since been deleted read.

ZRP Debunks Rumours Ex-Commissioner General Matanga Returning to Work
In a statement released later on Thursday evening, the ZRP dismissed the claims as baseless and urged the public to disregard them.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police dismisses social media postings attributed to COZWA and other sites alleging that Retired Commissioner-General of Police Tandabantu Godwin Matanga reported to his office today in police uniform claiming that he was not served with a letter of dismissal. The post is totally false and should be dismissed with the contempt it deserves,” part of the statement reads.

The ZRP confirmed that Matanga’s successor, Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba, has seamlessly taken over the reins of the police force.

“The new Commissioner-General of Police Stephen Mutamba has effectively taken the full command of the Zimbabwe Republic Police in its entirety with no hurdles. Contrary to the allegations, there is no Support Unit, Romeo Troop on standby,” the statement further reads.

Tory Lanez Responds To Megan Thee Stallion’s Restraining Order Petition

Tory Lanez has responded to a petition filed by Megan Thee Stallion seeking to place a restraining order on him in prison.

Representatives for Lanez (aka Daystar Peterson), in their response, said Megan and her legal team were “inappropriately” using the justice system.

The reply was reportedly filed with the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County on December 24, 2024.

t would be recalled that Megan filed a restraining order on Tuesday, December 17, requesting the Los Angeles Superior Court to prevent Tory Lanez (aka Daystar Peterson) from “orchestrating harassment” against her through third parties while in prison.

Court documents, available to some news outlets, alleged that Tory Lanez had been harassing Megan from prison through social media and utilizing third parties.

However, lawyers for Lanez have downplayed the motion, describing it as “a frivolous request” when Lanez had “zero direct contact” with the Cobra singer.

“When celebrity with millions of dollars and backed by large corporation disagrees with free speech or opinions, they weaponize the justice system, failing to understand that they are public figures, who voluntarily catapulted themselves into the limelight, unable to deal with the controversy and public opinions,” part of the motion cited by some outlets read.

Lanez is set to appear in court on January 9, 2025, regarding the restraining order.

Meanwhile, the court documents filed by lawyers said Megan’s restraining order request was responding to ridicule rather than “seeking actual protection.”

“Rather than rebut the commentary or debate the issues raised by Defendant’s comments so people can make up their own minds, Plaintiff has succumbed to the current trend of using the legal system in an attempt to cancel those opinions she disagrees with,” Lanez response said.

“He [Tory Lanez] does not have possession of a firearm and is unable to leave his current residence. Therefore, the incident alleged (which occurred 4.5 years ago) is no longer any form of current or future threat to the person seeking protection,” it stated.

South Korea Bans Jeju Air CEO From Travelling Amid Crash Probe

South Korea on Thursday announced a travel ban on the Chief Executive Officer of Jeju Air, Kim E-bae, following the airline’s recent crash that claimed 179 lives.

According to the police in South Jeolla Province, Muan city, “the investigation team imposed a travel ban on two individuals, including Jeju Air CEO Kim E-bae.

Investigations have been ongoing to ascertain the cause of the crash while the airline said pre-flight inspection of its Boeing 737-800 “showed nothing abnormal”

The flight carrying 181 people from Thailand to South Korea on Sunday veered off the runway during landing and collided with a concrete fence, before bursting into flames killing everyone on board except two crew members.

Authorities had on Thursday carried out search and seizure operations at the Muan airport where the incident occurred.

The investigation team, which included South Korean, U.S investigators and Boeing staff, also searched a regional aviation office in the southwestern city and Jeju Air’s office in the capital Seoul.

Also, the plane’s two black boxes, the cockpit tabs flight data recorder have also been recovered and are being investigated.

“In relation to the plane accident… a search and seizure operation is being conducted from 9 am (0000 GMT) on January 2 at three locations,” police said in a statement sent to AFP.

“The police plan to swiftly and rigorously determine the cause and responsibility for this accident in accordance with the law and principles,” the police said.

The search warrant was issued and approved on charges of professional negligence resulting in death, Yonhap News Agency reported, citing officials.

The South Korean government also launched a nationwide inspection of all Boeing 737-800 aircraft operated by South Korean airlines, with a focus on the landing gear, which is believed to have malfunctioned during the crash.

Acting President Choi Sang-mok vowed to take swift action against anyone responsible for the crash, following the investigation.

“With significant public concern surrounding this aircraft model, all relevant agencies must ensure comprehensive inspections,” Choi said

“If any issues arise, immediate corrective actions must follow,” he added.

Lusambo asks EFCC to suspend his sentence

Lusambo asks EFCC to suspend his sentence

JAILED former Lusaka province minister Bowman Lusambo has pleaded with the Economic and Financial Crimes Court to admit him to bail so that he can hustle for his wife’s medical fees and fend for his children.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19oWGncTCq/?mibextid=oFDknk

Lusambo is in the alternative requesting the EFCC (High Court Division) to suspend his sentence.

The Bulldozer in his renewed bail application promised not to threaten peace if he was granted bail.

On November 8, 2024, Lusambo was jailed for four years with hard labor for Corrupt  acquisition of public property, tax evasion and possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.

He was also fined K9,000 in default nine months imprisonment and he is currently remanded at Mwembeshi Maximum Correctional Facility.

In his affidavit in support of renewed bail application, Lusambo said having been dissatisfied with the Judgment, he appealed against the same.

He said his appeal has high prospects of success as outlined in the grounds of appeal, more particularly in relation to the grounds raising issue on whether tax evasion can be occasioned for failure by the seller to pay property transfer tax in the presence of an agreement that the purchaser would pay the same: and in relation to the evaluation of evidence in relation to matters arising out of the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act, which issues are novel and would benefit the public.

Lusambo said his appeal raises issues of law and fact in relation to how the Court below analysed the evidence in an unbalanced manner, preferring the evidence of  the Anti-Corruption Commission while excluding his, overlooking the flaws of one side and not the other, disregarding his evidence and produced exhibits as to the nature of ownership of the properties.

“I am the breadwinner of my family and as such  my family requires my financial support especially in view of my wife’s medical  needs which makes it difficult  for her not provide  for the family, especially for the younger children of the family,” Lusambo said.

He said he will provide traceable and credible sureties and attend Court whenever required to do so .

Lusambo said his application is not friviilous, vexatious and is not in any way  intended to abuse the Court process, but has been made to enable him get admission to bail pending appeal because if bail is not granted he would have served  the substantial sentence  by the time the appeal is heard.

“The state will not in any way be prejudiced if I am granted bail pending Appeal, as I verily believe l am wiling to adhere to all the bail conditions set out by the Court should I be granted bail pending appeal,” said Lusambo.

“Should I be granted bail pening appeal I shall not pose any threat to society, more especially as the offences I am convicted of related to my personal property and as such, I verily believe as advised by my advocates, that the said offences I am convicted of are not offences likely to threaten the peace and or safety of society.”

2025 had better be the start of good years to come. We have suffered; it is enough!

By Azwell Banda

By and large, we Zambians are a good natured, polite and generally happy people, no matter what our circumstances may be.

We enjoy a good laugh at ourselves, our families, and even neighbours! We respect authority and I think we generally fear government, especially the police, particularly the paramilitary police. We go a long way to avoid making our friends unhappy: unless it is someone we know very well and whom we usually freely differ with, we normally would rather skirt around a disagreement, and let it pass. We do all this to politicians, all the time. We laugh behind their backs and show them fake respect when they are looking!

It is how we behave as individuals and inside our political parties as supporters, members and leaders which bothers me. Our dictators since 1964 have also been manufactured inside their political parties and by their praise singers. UNIP under Kenneth Kaunda went as far as proclaiming that God ruled the Heavens and Kaunda ruled on Earth. “Kaunda, forever, no change” was a chant UNIP leaders, members, its zealots and Kaunda’s praise singers used to taut and intimidate their opponents, and send their leader to sleep.

Even the “One Zambia, One Nation Motto” had a dubious ending! “One Zambia, One Nation! One Nation, One Leader! And that Leader: Dr Kenneth Kaunda, Forever, No Change” thundered in all UNIP meetings, especially towards the end of Kaunda’s political life as president of Zambia. No country can have only one leader, all sane UNIP members (and all UNIP “leaders” of course) understood this! And yet they all lied to Kaunda that Zambia then had only one leader – Kaunda. As for being a leader “forever” and without being replaced, only little children play such games, in life. Adults know that things change all the time and leaders come and go; always.

This type of lying – telling a loved one, a friend and a politician a lie to make them feel good about themselves, to smooth over their errors, to defend their indefensible behaviours, to cover up their physical, social and political ugliness and so on – is a bad mistake we make all the time, most of us, Zambians. Politicians have turned this type of lie into a political staple food: the consequences are deadly as the majority of Zambians pay the price of enduring political mediocrity, liars, corruption, thieving, fraud, incompetence, authoritarian and dictatorial leadership, in Zambian governments.

Zambians die for want of food and medicines in hospitals, while ruling party politicians are showered with praises and their corrupt and other errant ways are smoothed over, by their praise singers. It is hard to tell who is worse or more evil: the politician in government who is corrupt, a thief, a fraud, a liar, an incompetent nincompoop, an authoritarian figure and a dictator or his or her praise singers? Both act in tandem to defraud Zambians and they send thousands of Zambians to their early graves. To fail to acknowledge that it is immoral and a mistake to cover up for bad and criminal behaviour by our politicians makes us accomplices in the punishment, suffering and deaths which such politicians unleash on the majority of Zambians. When “our” political party is in government, most of us are guilty of this mistake.

Even the most hard-bitten poor Zambian, young, male or female, educated or uneducated, generally thinks very highly of himself or herself. Funny, our material and cultural poverty notwithstanding, we Zambians are generally extremely opinionated, assume we know a lot about everything, are nowadays too impatient to read, think, discuss with others, learn, before jumping headlong into mindless action. We are a very proud people, you see. We have now reached a stage in our political life when most of us think we too can be the president of Zambia. Political parties have mushroomed all over the place, all of them formed solely to provide a vehicle for the founder, the owner of the political party, to contest elections for president of Zambia.

Zambia is saturated with potential presidents and yet there are no clear solutions to the problems now killing Zambians every day, coming from any of them, including from the politician now in power. They all are competing at manufacturing the most convincing lies to win elections if they are in the opposition, or to fool us, if they are in government. None of them are talking about transferring economic and political power from our elite politicians to the mass of the Zambian people who, for 60 years now, have been victims of lies, false promises, corruption, theft, fraud incompetence, authoritarianism and dictatorship, from all our elite politicians. In their chests, all the presidential hopefuls have contempt for the one currently in office, just as he had contempt for whoever was in office when he was in the opposition! This kind of empty-headedness-pride is a bad character we Zambians need to urgently attend to.

We are in a hurry to get somewhere, very fast, without a vision, a mission, all inspired by a programme from which objectives, strategies and tactics are beaten into a costed, timebound, measurable plan. A particular, and very unique ignorant arrogance motivates us, pushes us, to act mindlessly as if we somehow have all the controls of the world at our fingertips. There is no substitute to hard, long, bruising hard mental labour learning about the world we want to change, what change we want to make, how such change can be made, before jumping into the fray for the scramble for the office of the president of Zambia. Such a one, no matter how long they spend in the opposition, from day one, all things simply fall apart, including the little accidental good work his predecessors left. In the absence of a scientific plan to transfer economic and political power to the Zambian masses, the looting, plundering and corruption quickly take over, for personal enrichment. This mistake has brought us to where we are, as a country: we are on our knees, begging, while our natural wealth powers the development of other countries.

We all pretend to hate corruption, stealing public money, lying, and so on. And yet Zambia is a very corrupt country, with thieving politicians who lie their way into government. If we all truly hated corruption and acted upon it, if we hated the abuse and theft of public resources and acted upon it, if we all demanded the truth from ourselves and our politicians, lying would not be the main political currency our politicians use to defraud us of our votes. We are corrupt, and so our politicians are corrupt. We are thieves, and so our politicians are thieves. We lie easily, even when there is no need, and so our politicians lie too, and so it goes on. This is another bad mistake we make: we want a corruption, thieving, lying free political ecosystem and yet we are thoroughly corrupt, thieves and liars, most of us!

Most of us want every one we know, those we are related to or we love to jump when we are in trouble, and come to our rescue. And yet we do not really know, respect, take responsibility and care for others, for our relatives and those we pretend we love. Above all, we want our politicians “to work for us” when they are in government, and yes, so too must the opposition! We long lost the humane touch, human solidarity, genuine empathy and sympathy for others, we no longer actually know how to feel compassion for anyone – and yet we want society to jump when life grabs us by our throats! This is an unforgivable mistake: we all need each other, we are social beings, we humans! We must always “do unto others as we would have them do unto us”! Money and greed have replaced human solidarity, kindness, compassion, caring and love for others. We are thus the walking dead; empty, soulless, human shells.

We want to have more than anyone else. We are greedy for money, for things. We hurt very badly whenever anyone prevents us from acquiring things – and we go for them, we fight them to revenge! We gossip and say bad things about almost everyone. We are so slimy and slippery, so untrustworthy we long lost the ability to voice out our true thoughts and feelings to those around us. Politicians know all this all too well: you cannot trust anyone any more, not even your wife or husband, in politics in Zambia today! We thus no longer “commune” (relate humanly) with others; we transact, we trade, we exchange “value” for “value”. We are zombies, long dead inside and a cold selfish stone now lodges where our heart should be. This is horrible. It is a mistake, a grave mistake, to be driven by these evil things.

In our families, churches, schools, businesses and political parties – we are witnesses to many injustices but we do nothing about them. We try very hard to stay clear of such troubles. In political parties, we see and hear bad things done by our leaders against others, and we keep quiet, and sometimes even compete and pray for the opportunity to take over the positions left by those unjustly treated by our politicians.

We all know that Israel has normalised genocide as a state response to real or perceived threats to the state; we say and do nothing, about this. We hear about civil war in the DRC, Sudan and many other parts of Africa. We hear about rumours of war in neighbour, Mozambique. We are quiet. When these things will happen to us, the world will be quiet too. This is a horrible mistake we frequently make, and yet soon it will be our turn to suffer similar or worse injustices. Meanwhile, our politicians have turned our government into a sjambok for whipping their opposition.

For 60 years now, we have suffered because most of us, Zambians, make these and many similar mistakes. The past three years have been particularly horrible, worsened of course, also by the drought. Going forward, in 2025 and beyond, if we want to end our national suffering, we must confront these personal and collective mistakes, and deal with them, frankly and brutally. The choice really, is ours. Happy New Year!

PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ON THE OUTBURSTS OF EDUCATION MINISTER DOUGLAS SIAKALIMA

PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ON THE OUTBURSTS OF EDUCATION MINISTER DOUGLAS SIAKALIMA

Lusaka, January 2 – Education Minister Mr. Douglas Siakalima must desist from lowering the decorum of the office he occupies by engaging himself in cheap political propaganda and fanning hate speech that has the potential to hurt the popularity of the UPND Government.

To say the UPND has achieved more in 3 years compared to what President Kaunda did in 27 years, is an insult to the memories of our founding father who fought for regional liberation, built the University Teaching Hospital, the University of Zambia and Copperbelt University, the Kariba Dam, Tazama pipeline and many other key legacy infrastructure projects that have continued to sustain the Zambian economy.

I challenge Mr. Siakalima to point at what the UPND has done apart from placing mines in the hands of their friends, running down the economy and increasing the prices of essential commodities including mealie meal, eggs, cooking oil and fuel.

The teachers and health workers that this government claims to have employed are suffering from the unprecedented high cost of living as their meager salaries cannot buy basic commodities under a terribly managed economy by those who claimed to have superior quality of vision.

Mr. Siakalima as a senior member of the ruling party and a minister for that matter, should also desist from using hate speech against fellow Citizens.

Under no circumstances should he be calling other citizens as monkeys. It’s immoral, insulting, cheap politicking and downright lack of inspirational leadership qualities for someone called minister of education.

It’s even more disturbing and troubling that this is not the first time Mr. Siakalima is engaging himself in hate speech.

When he called those of us from the north as suffering from the poverty of the mind, we gave him the benefit of doubt but it is very clear now that the man must be tamed as a matter of urgency. In fact, in a serious Government, Mr. Siakalima should have lost his job a long time ago.

I urge President Hakainde Hichilema to manage Mr. Siakalima as we will not stand by and watch him continue to insult, bully and humiliate other citizens. Failure to discipline a senior cabinet member who is wantonly using and promoting hate speech will mean he represents the views of his appointing authority.

HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION DISMISSES CLAIMS OF NEGLIGENCE IN “WHY ME” HATE SPEECH CASE

HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION DISMISSES CLAIMS OF NEGLIGENCE IN “WHY ME” HATE SPEECH CASE

The Human Rights Commission- Zambia (HRC) has refuted social media allegations suggesting it has been unresponsive to the case of Francis Kapwepwe, popularly known as “Why Me,” a TikTok personality on trial for alleged hate speech.

In a detailed statement issued by HRC Spokesperson Mweelwa Muleya, the Commission outlined its extensive efforts to uphold Kapwepwe’s rights since his arrest on April 19, 2024, dismissing claims of inaction as baseless.

Support Provided by HRC from the time of Kapwepwe’s detention at Kabwata Police Station, the Commission engaged the Zambia Police Service to secure bond for him, as guaranteed under Article 13 of the Constitution of Zambia. Despite securing police agreement to grant bond, the process was hindered by the failure to provide sureties.

The HRC also intervened with the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) to expedite the case, resulting in Kapwepwe being granted cash bail by the Livingstone Magistrate Court on May 29, 2024. However, attempts to facilitate his bail conditions through his legal counsel were unsuccessful, leading to his remand at the Livingstone Correctional Facility.

Visits to Assess Rights and Welfare. The Commission has consistently visited Kapwepwe in detention to ensure his rights are upheld, including its latest visit on December 31, 2024. According to the HRC, Kapwepwe has not reported or exhibited any human rights violations, and correctional officers confirmed he has been receiving visits from friends and well-wishers during official visiting hours.

HRC advised those visiting Kapwepwe to comply with correctional facility rules, including refraining from bringing cameras or engaging in activities aimed at creating social media publicity.

Trial Update, Kapwepwe is scheduled to appear for his fortnightly mention on January 3, 2025, with a ruling on whether he has a case to answer set for January 10, 2025. The Commission reiterated its commitment to monitoring the case to ensure Kapwepwe’s right to legal protection under Article 18 of the Constitution is upheld.

Appeal for Accuracy the HRC urged stakeholders to verify facts through the Commission or Kapwepwe’s legal counsel to avoid misleading the public with incorrect information.

“The Commission continues to collaborate with institutions in the justice delivery sector to execute its constitutional mandate effectively,” stated Muleya.
