NKANDU SAYS KASAMA VICTORY ENDORSES HH

🔷 NKANDU SAYS KASAMA VICTORY ENDORSES HH

UPND Deputy Spokesperson and Kasama mayoral election campaign manager Elvis Nkandu has described the party’s victory in the Kasama mayoral by-election as an endorsement of President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership and the UPND government’s policy direction. His remarks followed the declaration of UPND candidate Bywell Simposya as the winner after he polled 17,647 votes in Thursday’s contest.

The report states that Simposya defeated his closest rival from the Forum for Democracy and Development, Peter Yuda, who received 14,302 votes across Kasama Central and Lukashya constituencies. Nkandu is quoted crediting President Hichilema’s “visionary leadership” for the victory and for the inroads UPND has made in Northern Province.

UPND Media Director Mark Simuuwe is also quoted describing the result as a reflection of the party’s sustained work to position itself positively in the region since the 2021 general elections. The report connects Nkandu’s comments to government programmes and policy focus, including the Constituency Development Fund and free education.

100% PF Leadership Failure – Kafwaya

100% PF Leadership Failure – Kafwaya

Lusaka — In a notable departure from the Patriotic Front’s long-standing narrative, Lunte Member of Parliament and PF Presidential Aspirant, Hon. Mutotwe Kafwaya has squarely blamed PF’s ongoing turmoil on internal leadership failures, conspicuously avoiding accusations of external interference by the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND), a party frequently cited by PF leaders as the source of its woes.

In a detailed statement on the state of the opposition party, Kafwaya argued that PF members have remained remarkably loyal despite sustained instability, while party leaders have repeatedly failed to exercise responsibility and authority. He described the crisis as self-inflicted and rooted in poor leadership decisions rather than political persecution.

“The support of PF members has been second to none,” Kafwaya said, adding that the current situation reflects “deliberate failure” by those at the helm. He stressed that the problems facing the former ruling party cannot be attributed to external forces but to internal mismanagement.

Kafwaya noted that the late former president Edgar Chagwa Lungu left behind a united and functioning party, which later fractured under the watch of the current leadership. He pointed to the leadership’s failure to stop what many within PF viewed as an illegal conference convened by Miles Sampa as a pivotal moment in the party’s decline, suggesting that some leaders may have quietly enabled the process.

Political observers have interpreted Kafwaya’s remarks as an implicit rejection of the narrative advanced by sections of PF leadership that have previously blamed the ruling United Party for National Development for internal court battles, injunctions, and factional disputes. Notably, Kafwaya made no reference to state interference, infiltration, or manipulation by political opponents.

Instead, he argued that President Lungu’s decision to return to active politics before his death amounted to a vote of no confidence in the leadership he had appointed. According to Kafwaya, Lungu intervened after party leaders failed to convene an extraordinary general conference to elect a substantive leader, a delay that disappointed members across the country and fueled factionalism.

He further described the continued failure to hold a lawful conference — both before and after Lungu’s death — as a “colossal leadership failure.” Kafwaya said the legal injunctions currently paralysing parts of the party were the result of internal power struggles, rather than persecution by external actors.

The MP also questioned the legitimacy of rival leadership claims within PF, including those involving Robert Chabinga, arguing that constitutional provisions had been ignored in favour of expedient political manoeuvres.

With general elections fast approaching, Kafwaya warned that PF remains without an elected leader, despite repeated opportunities to resolve the crisis. He criticised the decision to expand the list of presidential applicants instead of holding a conference, suggesting the move only deepened confusion within the party.

He recalled that President Lungu had anticipated political challenges and sought to mitigate them through alliances such as UKA and Tonse Alliance, but warned that both formations were now being weakened from within. According to Kafwaya, the erosion of these alliances was being driven by leadership failures rather than actions by rival political parties.

The seriousness of the situation, he said, prompted intervention by national elders who offered guidance on restoring order within PF. However, Kafwaya lamented that the advice was not acted upon, describing it as a failure that extended beyond party structures to the broader moral authority of the elders.

Kafwaya concluded by cautioning that political schemes have limits, warning that time would ultimately reveal the consequences of leadership decisions — a message that stands in contrast to past PF narratives centred on external blame.

GODAZA PRAISES PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S IMF DEAL

GODAZA PRAISES PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S IMF DEAL.

By Pride Nyirenda

GOVERNANCE and Development Advocates Zambia (GODAZA) has praised President Hakainde Hichilema for securing Zambia’s agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), describing it as a critical step towards economic stability.

The commendation follows the IMF Executive Board’s completion of the sixth and final review of Zambia’s Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme in January 2026, which unlocked about US$190 million and brings total IMF support since 2022 to approximately US$1.7 billion.

In a statement issued to RoanFM News, GODAZA Executive Director Elias Mulenga expressed admiration for President Hichilema’s leadership, noting that the IMF deal marks a turning point in the country’s economic recovery efforts. He said the agreement has strengthened Zambia’s financial credibility on the international stage.

Mr Mulenga explained that the programme opens avenues for debt restructuring and renewed investor confidence, which are essential for stabilising the economy. He added that the deal is expected to contribute to easing the cost of living, stimulate job creation, and improve the delivery of social services through better management of public resources.

He further affirmed that GODAZA stands firmly behind President Hichilema’s vision for national development, expressing confidence that the IMF-supported programme will help place Zambia on a sustainable path to growth as the country enters a new economic chapter.

MWEETWA MUST MIND HIS LANGUAGE: PRESIDENT HARRY KALABA IS A STATESMAN, NOT A POLITICAL LIGHTWEIGHT

MWEETWA MUST MIND HIS LANGUAGE: PRESIDENT HARRY KALABA IS A STATESMAN, NOT A POLITICAL LIGHTWEIGHT

The Citizens First (CF) Youth Wing has noted with concern the recent remarks by Hon. Cornelius Mweetwa directed at President Harry Kalaba.

With due respect, the tone and content of Hon. Mweetwa’s statements fall short of the maturity expected from a senior government official, UPND Spokesperson, and Member of Parliament for Choma Central. Political competition must be anchored in mutual respect, not personal belittlement.

President Harry Kalaba is not Hon. Mweetwa’s political junior, nor is he a figure to be spoken about casually. He is a seasoned statesman who has served Zambia at the highest levels of government, including as Minister of Foreign Affairs, where he represented the nation on the global stage and strengthened Zambia’s diplomatic relations. He has also served as Member of Parliament for Bahati Constituency and continues to engage regional and international institutions on matters of diplomacy, trade, and development.

These credentials are earned through service, discipline, and commitment not rhetoric.

To dismiss such a leader as having “no future” in national leadership is not only disrespectful but also dismissive of the many Zambians who believe in his vision. In a democracy, it is not government spokespersons who determine political futures; it is the people.

President Harry Kalaba’s vision for Zambia is grounded in accountable and transparent governance, a pro-poor economic agenda, industrialisation and job creation, economic independence that is felt in people’s pockets, and inclusive national leadership rooted in unity and dignity.

If the UPND government maintains that it is “doing nothing wrong,” then it must be prepared to account for the daily hardships Zambians are facing.

Under UPND, the cost of living continues to rise, with mealie meal, fuel, electricity, and basic necessities increasingly unaffordable. Youth unemployment remains unacceptably high.

Small businesses are struggling under high taxes, unstable energy supply, and limited access to affordable credit. Farmers continue to face challenges in input delivery, pricing, and market access.

Public confidence has also been weakened by selective accountability and growing perceptions that anti-corruption efforts are applied inconsistently.

These are not imagined concerns; they are lived realities for millions of Zambians.

Before dismissing alternative leaders and visions, Hon. Mweetwa must account for his own record in Choma Central. What tangible development has been delivered? Where are the sustainable jobs? Where is the measurable improvement in livelihoods?

Politics must remain a contest of ideas, policies, and solutions  not insults and condescension. If the UPND is confident in its performance, it should welcome scrutiny and competitive leadership rather than seek to belittle opponents.

President Harry Kalaba deserves engagement on policy and vision, not dismissive commentary.

Zambia’s democracy is strongest when leaders debate respectfully and allow citizens to freely choose who they believe is best suited to lead.
Respect in leadership is not optional. It is essential.

WHY WE SHOULD VOTE HOWARD KUNDA AS 8TH PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA

WHY WE SHOULD VOTE HOWARD KUNDA AS 8TH PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA

Hon. Howard M. Kunda’s potential as a presidential candidate in Zambia stems from his:

– Leadership Experience: As the President of the Zambia Wake-Up Party (ZAWAPA), Kunda has demonstrated leadership skills, evident in his critiques of the New Dawn administration’s handling of national issues, such as poverty, power deficits, and unstable fuel prices.

– Advocacy for the People: Kunda has shown commitment to addressing the challenges faced by Zambians, emphasizing the need for government accountability and action to alleviate suffering. He has also championed cultural respect and tradition, as seen in his efforts to repatriate the remains of Crown Prince Samuwana Jollick Kazanda.

– Criticisms of the Current Government: Kunda’s vocal criticism of the UPND administration’s failures, such as worsening poverty and power deficits, positions him as a strong opposition leader. His warnings about the government’s complacency ahead of the 2026 general elections demonstrate his engagement with current issues.

– Vision for Zambia’s Future: Kunda’s emphasis on putting God first and promoting collective leadership suggests a value-driven approach to governance.

Some key areas that might shape his presidential campaign include:
– Economic Strategies: Developing solutions to address poverty, unemployment, and resource mismanagement.

– Energy and Infrastructure: Tackling power deficits and promoting stable fuel prices.

– Cultural Heritage: Continuing to advocate for respect and preservation of Zambian traditions and customs.

Kunda is by far the best candidate and Zambians should give him a chance as he has proven to be a servant for the people.

FORMER AIDE BACKS PRESIDENT’S CALL FOR BOOSTED AFRICAN TRADE

FORMER AIDE BACKS PRESIDENT’S CALL FOR BOOSTED AFRICAN TRADE

FORMER Presidential Assistant and United Party for National Development (UPND) media official Amos Chanda has endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema’s push for stronger intra-African trade, stating that increased trade among African nations is crucial for value addition, job creation and sustainable economic growth on the continent.

Mr Chanda notes that many of Africa’s resources are exported in raw form to regions such as Asia, Europe, America and Australia, where value addition occurs, resulting in Africa exporting jobs and losing out on the full value of its resources.

He explains that increasing processing and manufacturing within Africa would retain value on the continent and create employment opportunities for local communities.

Mr Chanda has emphasized the need to actualise existing reforms within AU institutions responsible for trade, mining, labour, customs and related sectors, so that policies translate into real benefits for ordinary citizens.

Kasama By-Election: A Lesson the Opposition Must Finally Learn

Kasama By-Election: A Lesson the Opposition Must Finally Learn.
By Francis Musonda ll.
Sun Tzu teaches us that “strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory, and tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.”
The Kasama by-election offered the opposition yet another painful illustration of this timeless truth.

Immediately the by-election was announced, my young brother called to inform me that Citizens First, the Socialist Party, and the FDD had each fielded their own candidates. My instant reaction was one of concern. In warfare—as in politics—dividing one’s forces in the face of a common opponent is not bravery; it is folly. What followed was a textbook case of vote-splitting.

Personally, I found myself in a difficult position. I could not openly rally behind a single candidate without a conflict of conscience. The Citizens First candidate, my young brother Aaron Zimba , is someone I have treasured and remained close to for a long time. Equally, Ba Peter Chikweti Yuda of the FDD is a person I hold in high regard, more so because my very own young brother was deeply involved in architecting and vigorously driving his campaign.

Supporting one meant wounding the other, and that personal dilemma mirrored the broader strategic confusion within the opposition.
From the outset, it was evident that this contest would fracture opposition strength. Both the Citizens First and FDD candidates hail from the Patriotic Front tradition. In Sun Tzu’s words, “When you engage the enemy with divided forces, you will be defeated in detail.” These candidates were competing for the same voter base, the same political numbers on the ground. The damage was therefore not accidental—it was inevitable.

What we continue to hear from opposition parties are eloquent calls for unity, well-sung and emotionally stirring, but rarely translated into action. “The general who wins the battle, makes many calculations in his temple before the battle is fought.” Sun Tzu.
In Kasama, unity was invoked after the battle, not secured before it. At the ballot, unity was preached, but abandoned.

To you my guy, Musonda Musonda Angel , credit must be given where it is due. While the loss of this election is undeniably painful—more so amid allegations of irregularities, you must equally recognize where victory was secured on the other front. The constituency you serve as Councillor for Busoko Ward stood firmly behind the candidate you supported. That loyalty did not happen by chance. It was earned. In strategy, Sun Tzu says, “Treat your soldiers as your own beloved sons, and they will follow you into the deepest valley.” Your people stood with you, and through you, they stood with your candidate. That grassroots support made a decisive difference.

The reality remains simple and unforgiving: had the Socialist Party, Citizens First, and FDD agreed on a single opposition candidate, the outcome would likely have been very different. When opposition votes are combined, the margin between victory and defeat is strikingly minimal. Moreover, many voters—unable to divide their loyalty between Citizens First and FDD—likely chose abstention.

Sun Tzu warns that “opportunities multiply as they are seized,” but in Kasama, opportunity was diluted through indecision.
For now do not assume that my relatives will one day start voting like other provinces. Do your homework.

ARMY OFFICER ‘PUNCHED’ BY HIS WIFE’S SIDE DUDE

ARMY OFFICER ‘PUNCHED’ BY HIS WIFE’S SIDE DUDE

COURT heard how a daring Lusaka physicist, allegedly punched his girlfriend’s husband, an army officer.

This was during an altercation after Dickson Musopelo, of Chelston, was found in the victim’s bedroom with the army officer’s wife.

The army officer, who will only be reffered to as officer Kay, to avoid stigma, later reported his wife’s boyfriend to police for assault.

He told police how he discovered Mr Musupelo in a wardrobe where he hid after he found him with his wife Melody Kuliwa, in their matrimonial home.

Evidence is that on September 26, 2025, the accused allegedly assaulted officer Kay at his material home.

Musopelo denied the charge before Lusaka magistrate Victora Mututwa.

Evidence is that on the material day, officer Kay, a father of three, was working out of town.

When he made an impromptu return home at night, he found his wife, Ms Kuliwa with Musopelo in his matrimonial bedroom, and saw semen on the bed.

This discovery led to altercation, which left the complainant with injuries allegedly inflicted by the accused.

Magistrate Mututwa heard that officer Kay painstakingly restrained himself to avoid doing the unthinkable to his wife and her lover.

But in his defence , the accused said he acted in self defence because officer Kay was aggressive.

He narrated that on the material day, he went to “rest” at his girlfriend’s place.

Musopelo said his girlfriend, Kuliwa, had informed him that she was on separation with officer Kay.

“Around 22:30, she [Ms Kuliwa] woke me up and said that officer Kay is here, I went to hide in the wardrobe, just to avoid conflict”.

He said when officer Kay walked into the bedroom, the couple greeted each other.

“But he(victim) noticed that there was someone else in the room. He came to open the door of the wardrobe, he saw me…it was near the bathroom”.

The accused said he tried to sneak out of the room but the victim pulled him from the trousers.

“He grabbed my belt and Kuliwa came in between to restrain us but as she was trying that, the complainant started throwing punches, the first punch was not aimed at me but her, so I pulled her out”.

Musopelo said the victim repeatedly punched him.

“I fell into the bath tub, he hit me on the head, water started filling the tub and I was almost drowning”.

“…as he was punching me while I was on the ground, I punched him just once with my left hand”.

The accused, who said he became unconscious at some point due to the beating, later managed to flee with Kuliwa, who is his former college mate.

In cross examination, the accused said he had no proof to show that he was assaulted by officer Kay.

“You were found having sex in their matrimonial bedroom, did you challenge that evidence?” a prosecutor asked Musopelo who said “We never had sex”.

UKRAINE SEES QUIETER NIGHT AS TRUMP SAYS PUTIN WILL NOT ATTACK IT’S CITIES

UKRAINE SEES QUIETER NIGHT AS TRUMP SAYS PUTIN WILL NOT ATTACK IT’S CITIES

THE US president said Ukrainians were “struggling badly” in freezing weather
Ukraine has seen a relatively quiet night after Donald Trump said his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin had agreed not to attack Kyiv and “various towns” during a cold snap.

The Kremlin confirmed it had agreed to cease attacks on Kyiv until Sunday to “create favourable conditions” for peace talks.

While the US president did not say when the pause would begin, air raid alerts sounded in just eight Ukrainian regions overnight into Friday, with two minor injuries recorded in Zaporizhzhia.

Temperatures in the capital, Kyiv, are due to plummet to -24C (-11F) over the coming days. Russia has recently intensified attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, as it has during cold periods since its invasion began.

Ukrainian officials had been expecting a major attack this weekend ahead of the current cold spell – if that does not take place, it could mark a significant step in US-led efforts to bring the war to a close.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday that Putin had called a halt to strikes on Kyiv “for a week until 1 February” at the personal request of Trump. That date is just two days away.

He made no mention of the cold weather and refused to be drawn on whether Russia would refrain from targeting energy infrastructure, instead portraying the agreement as an effort to facilitate US-mediated peace negotiations.

While the last few nights have been quiet for the capital, there have been 530 air raid alerts in Kyiv this week, according to one monitor.

Ukraine’s air force said more than 100 drones and a ballistic missile were fired at regions near the front line overnight.

But, as of Friday morning, there have been no fresh attacks on electricity or heating infrastructure crucial for keeping people warm.

‘It’s 2C in our flat’: Inside Kyiv apartment as Russia targets power and heating
Trump told a televised cabinet meeting in Washington DC on Thursday: “I personally asked President Putin not to fire into Kyiv and the various towns for a week, and he agreed to do that.”

He added: “It was very nice. A lot of people said, ‘Don’t waste the call, you’re not going to get that.’ And he [Putin] did it.”

The US president said of the Ukrainians: “Almost they didn’t believe it, but they were very happy about it because they are struggling badly.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky later wrote on social media that Trump had made an “important statement” about “the possibility of providing security for Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities during this extreme winter period”.

He told reporters on Friday that there had been no “direct dialogue or agreement” with Russia to pause attacks on energy infrastructure, but that Kyiv would act in kind if Moscow did so.

Ukraine has targeted oil depots and refineries within Russia in a bid to limit its ability to finance its invasion.

Meanwhile, residents of Kyiv who spoke to the BBC expressed scepticism about the deal between Trump and Putin.

“I don’t believe that Putin will stop even for a week,” said Olena. “We have seen so many talks and deals but, nevertheless, he continues to do what he wants.”

She added: “We have survived -20C recently, and if air strikes decrease even a little, then we’ll overcome the next week as well.”

Meanwhile, Hennadiy said he too did not believe Russia would stop targeting Kyiv’s energy infrastructure, but expressed hope that it would.

“If we get a one-week respite, it will be good,” he said. “These days, -30C is a catastrophe for us. Before it was OK and we could cope.”

Russian, Ukrainian and US negotiators met in the United Arab Emirates last week for the first trilateral talks since the war began in 2022.

All sides described the talks as constructive, but while Zelensky said Russia pausing its attacks for the duration of the cold snap had been discussed, no agreement was announced.

Instead, attacks continued, crippling the power supply to major Ukrainian cities, leaving millions without heating or electricity.

Kyiv’s Mayor Vitaly Klitschko has said 378 apartment blocks in the capital remain without heating.

Electrical companies have been carrying out round-the-clock repairs, but their work can be quickly undone by Russian air attacks.

Even when power is restored, the supply only lasts a few hours – enough to charge appliances but not to substantially warm up homes.

A second round of peace talks was scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, but may now be postponed and relocated due to “what’s happening between America and Iran”, Zelensky said.

Trump has threatened Tehran with military action over a crackdown on nationwide protests that human rights monitors say have led to thousands of deaths, as well as its nuclear programme.

Negotiations on a peace plan have been mediated by the US for months, with a key sticking point being Ukraine ceding territory to Russia.

Moscow currently controls around a fifth of Ukraine, including most of the eastern Donbas region. It wants Kyiv to hand over the areas of the Donbas it has not yet taken by force, while Ukraine reportedly wants Russia to hand back control of its largest nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia.

“We are not ready for compromises that violate territorial integrity,” Zelensky said on Friday. “We will not hand Donbas or the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant to the Russians without a fight.”

In her letter of acceptance to PF Central Committee, the daughter of 6th president says the PF party shall endeavour to work in accordance with the desires of Zambians who are yearning for a better life.

“The spirit of the PF’s Founding Father, H.E. President Michael Chilufya Sata and his successor H.E. President Edgar Chagwa Lungu remain strong, and we shall endeavour to work in accordance with the desire of Zambians who continue to yearn for a better life.”

Mrs. Mwansa expressed gratitude and thanked acting president Given Lubinda for the opportunity to serve as a member of the Central Committee.

“It is an honour and a privilege to be recognized and entrusted with such an important role as that of a member of the Patriotic Front’s Central Committee by our Leaders.”

“It is with great humility that I accept this new function on behalf of our wonderful Chawama Family and the wider Party nationwide.”

“I receive the responsibility with immense gratitude and promise to work diligently in my new role.”

Prior to her appointment, Ms. Tasila was serving as Member of parliament for Chawama before her seat was declared vacant by Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti, following a vote by Members of Parliament, citing Article 72 (2) (c) of the Constitution of Zambia.

The decision stemed from Ms. Lungu’s prolonged absence, deemed indefinite, amid delays in burying her father, former President Edgar Lungu, leaving Chawama constituents without representation.

S333X FOR GRADES IN ZAMBIAN UNIVERSITIES REACH ALARMING LEVELS – PHIRI

S333X FOR GRADES IN ZAMBIAN UNIVERSITIES REACH ALARMING LEVELS – PHIRI

ZAMBIAN engineer Xhuzwayo Phiri has described the alleged conduct as an abuse of authority that turns universities into spaces of sexual exploitation rather than learning.

Allegations that some university lecturers are demanding sexual favours from students in exchange for grades have sparked serious concern over safety and academic integrity in Zambia’s higher learning institutions.

“When lecturers use their power to sexually manipulate students, universities stop being centres of learning and become environments of exploitation,” Phiri said.

Phiri cited a case involving a final-year female student who allegedly faces threats of failing grades after refusing a lecturer’s sexual advances, noting that many victims remain silent due to fear of retaliation and lack of protection.

“In such situations, consent becomes meaningless because a grade represents a student’s future,” he said.

Beyond the personal trauma suffered by students, Phiri has warned that the practice undermines national education standards by rewarding grades based on sexual compliance rather than merit.

“When grades can be sold, qualifications lose credibility and the country pays the price,” Phiri said.

He calls on government and university authorities to take firm action through secure reporting systems, victim protection and strict disciplinary measures against offenders, warning that failure to act risks long-term damage to the education system.

$70 Million U.S. Expansion of Kenya’s Manda Bay Military Base — Will This Finally Stop Al-Shabaab Terror or Make Kenya a Bigger Target?

$70 Million U.S. Expansion of Kenya’s Manda Bay Military Base — Will This Finally Stop Al-Shabaab Terror or Make Kenya a Bigger Target?

The United States is investing $70 million to massively expand Kenya’s Manda Bay military base, near the Somali border, turning it into a state-of-the-art hub for fighter jets, transport aircraft, and rapid military operations. The goal: fight al-Shabaab terrorism and strengthen regional security.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau called it a “tangible commitment” to shared defense, showing how far the U.S. is willing to go to protect Kenya and the East African region. The upgraded base will allow quick deployment of troops, enhanced air patrols, and stronger logistics — giving both Kenya and the U.S. the edge in responding to threats.

Kenya is no stranger to security challenges. Al-Shabaab has carried out deadly attacks inside the country in the past, exposing vulnerabilities at Manda Bay and highlighting the urgent need for modernization. Beyond counter-terrorism, Kenya continues to play a major role in international peacekeeping, including missions in Haiti, making it a key partner on the global stage.

But this raises a big question for the region: Will turning Manda Bay into one of East Africa’s most advanced military bases finally secure Kenya, or could it make the country a bigger target for extremist attacks?

This project also signals a growing U.S. presence in Africa, reflecting Kenya’s strategic importance and its role as a regional security anchor. The expansion is expected to be completed by mid-2027, potentially reshaping East African security for years to come.

💬 What do you think — is this the right move to fight terrorism, or could it bring more danger to Kenya?

By Chilufya Tayali

ABA BATATU NGA BAKWINGILILA MU TERRITORY, JUST KNOW THAT YOU ARE GONE, BUT  IN AUGUST, EACH WILL HAVE TO STAND ALONE

===================
Some have suggested that I am unhappy with the outcome in Kasama. That is not true. I have watched events unfold closely, and I have many thoughts. Still, there are moments when silence feels more responsible than speech.

If I am honest, I find myself conflicted. Figures such as Brian Mundubile, Chishimba Kambwili, Stephen Kampyongo, and, most painfully for me, #SOME members of the Catholic clergy whom I deeply respect, placed their weight behind the opposition candidate. That reality sits heavily with me.

I have made my position clear:

I support President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND. Logically, that would mean unreserved support for the party’s candidate. Yet politics is not always that simple. There are times when one must pause, reflect, and resist the urge to react.

However, what Kasama has revealed is something I have spoken about for some time, the real nature of the opposition’s chances against President Hichilema and the UPND. The lesson is there for anyone willing to look beyond the celebrations.

Some people are just talking about opposition unity, but there is much more needed than just coming together of the opposition.

I am tempted to offer a full analysis of what transpired, but I hesitate. Not because there is nothing to say, but because honesty, in this moment, may wound people who are still holding onto comforting illusions.

One thing I am convinced of, however, is this:

August will be different. Beyond the presidency, the political terrain will change significantly. At lower levels, candidates on all sides will be forced to fight their own battles, without the heavy machinery and concentrated forces that define by-elections.

For now, I choose reflection over reaction. I will pray on this matter, and perhaps speak more openly tomorrow at 20:00hrs.

My struggle is simple but real, I want to be truthful, yet I know that truth often comes at the cost of friendships and at times being arrested and you end up in exile.

The wise say, when you are in a hole, stop digging.

US Approves Nearly $16 Billion in New Arms Sales to Israel and Saudi Arabia

US Approves Nearly $16 Billion in New Arms Sales to Israel and Saudi Arabia

The Trump administration has approved a new round of major U.S. arms sales to key Middle Eastern allies, announcing deals worth $6.67 billion for Israel and $9 billion for Saudi Arabia. The approvals were disclosed by the U.S. State Department on Friday after notifying Congress of the proposed sales.

The sale to Israel includes a series of military packages designed to strengthen the country’s defence capabilities.

According to U.S. officials, the largest elements involve Apache attack helicopters, thousands of light tactical vehicles, power packs for armoured carriers, and additional utility helicopters.

The State Department said the equipment is intended to help Israel “meet current and future threats” and defend its borders and infrastructure.

For Saudi Arabia, the approved sale focuses on advanced air-defence systems, including 730 Patriot PAC-3 missiles and related equipment, aimed at bolstering Riyadh’s capacity to counter aerial and missile threats. The Pentagon has stated the transaction will contribute to regional security without undermining U.S. defence readiness.

The announcements come amid mounting tensions in the Middle East, particularly around Iran, and as the United States pursues diplomatic efforts connected to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. While U.S. officials argue the sales are vital to supporting allies and stabilising the region, the move has drawn scrutiny. Some members of Congress have criticised the timing and process, arguing that notifying lawmakers late on a Friday limits oversight and debate.

Administration spokesperson emphasised that these potential sales require further congressional review under U.S. law, giving lawmakers an opportunity to object within a statutory period before contracts are finalised.

Surgeons banned after billionaire diamond dealer Ehud Arye Laniado d!es during p3n!s enlargement surgery

Two surgeons have been banned from practicing plastic surgery after a billionaire patient d!ed during a pen!s enlargement procedure.

Belgian-Israeli diamond dealer, Ehud Arye Laniado, 65, d!ed of a heart attack during the procedure to enlarge his pen!s at the Saint-Honore-Ponthieu aesthetic clinic in Paris.

His surgeon, known as Guy H, was known for operating on wealthy clients, and he treated Ehud two to four times a year in procedures costing tens of thousands of euros.

Wealthy Omega Diamonds owner Ehud had been having injections into his penis to make it appear larger.

An investigation was swiftly opened into potential manslaughter charges following his de@th, though it soon shifted to charges of failing to assist a person in danger, drug offences, and practicing medicine without a licence.

A Paris court on Wednesday suspended Guy H’s licence and sentenced him to 15 months behind bars. His surgeon, who had been standing in for him on the evening of Ehud’s de@th, was handed a 12-month suspended sentence.

They have been permanently banned from practicing medicine and must pay €50,000 (£43,323) and €20,000 (£17,329) respectively, reports Le Parisien.

A source told the outlet: “When investigators looked into the cause of death, the injection into the penis was quickly ruled out. The question remained why the surgeon had made an initial call for help at 8pm, before a second call, this time to the fire department, two hours later.”

The defendant’s initially claimed the first call had been made due to Ehud’s irritable behaviour and him insisting to have the injections, despite complaining of abdominal pain.

The source continued: “It’s easy to say in hindsight that the heart attack started there, but since the patient had an ulcer, it was impossible to consider a heart problem, and emergency services wouldn’t have been called out for such a minor issue.”

The surgeon attempted CPR but it was not enough to save Ehud’s life. His lawyer Martin Reynaud added: “This cardiac incident could have happened anywhere, even in a pizzeria. Would the pizza maker have been prosecuted in that case?”

While the de@th occurred in shocking circumstances, an unnamed Parisian practitioner said the incident did not come as a surprise. They said: “This will still cause a stir in a clinic that relies on its name, its techniques, and where the entire family works. But this affair will surprise no one; in these upper echelons of cosmetic surgery, they often bend the rules.”

Murder suspect eats fertilizer to avoid arrest after travelling from South Africa to Zim to kill ex-lover

A man suspected of travelling from South Africa to murd3r his ex-lover in Nkayi has been arrested following a dramatic police chase that ended near the Shangani River, with the situation further complicated by an alleged suicide attempt.

Police identified the suspect as Sicelinkosi Masuku, who was apprehended on the evening of Thursday, January 29, 2026, days after the killing of Princess Janet Magonya Dakamela at a guest house in Nkayi on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. The arrest was first reported by veteran broadcaster Ezra Tshisa Sibanda, who said Masuku was tracked down after an intensive manhunt supported by tips from members of the public in both Zimbabwe and South Africa.

“Acting on information received from members of the public, police tracked him to the Shangani River area,” Sibanda reported.

However, the arrest did not end quietly. According to the update, officers discovered that Masuku had attempted to take his own life after ingesting fertiliser, which he allegedly believed to be pesticide.

“Upon his arrest, police found Masuku attempting to take his own life after ingesting fertiliser,” Sibanda said.

Masuku was immediately rushed to Nkayi Hospital, where he remains under police guard while receiving medical treatment. Sibanda expressed appreciation to the public for their role in the arrest, noting: “We received so many calls last evening from people in SA and some in Nkayi which assisted the police in locating and arresting the suspect.”

Investigators said the case stemmed from a relationship that began in South Africa and ended after the victim discovered Masuku was married. She subsequently returned to Zimbabwe, but police allege that Masuku followed her and subjected her to threats and stalking in the days leading up to her death.

One of the messages allegedly sent to the victim was quoted by investigators as saying: “If I don’t have you, no one will have you.”

According to a police statement, “It is alleged that the suspect tracked the victim to a guest house at Nkayi Centre, where he brutally attacked and killed her before fleeing the area.” The case was registered under CR 67/01/26.

Police had earlier warned that the suspect might attempt to flee back to South Africa, where his last known address was in Ivory Park, Thembisa, and noted that he has a twin brother, which initially complicated the search.

With Masuku now in custody, authorities say he will be formally charged once he is medically stable. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing are ongoing.

Billionaire Bill Gates reacts to claims Epstein made that he caught STD from s3£x with Russian girls

Billionaire Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has strongly denied claims contained in a draft email by Jeffrey Epstein that he had asked for medicine to treat an STD picked up from “s£x with Russian girls.”

In a rare statement, a spokesperson for the Microsoft billionaire told the Daily Mail: “These claims are absolutely absurd and completely false.

“The only thing these documents demonstrate is Epstein’s frustration that he did not have an ongoing relationship with Gates and the lengths he would go to entrap and defame.”

Epstein made the astonishing claims about the Microsoft billionaire in emails he sent to himself on July 18, 2013.

The emails were among the hundreds of thousands of Epstein files released by the Department of Justice on Friday morning, Jan. 30.

Friday’s release also includes multiple new undated images of Epstein and Gates together in various locations.

Gates has previously said he regrets his friendship with the late billionaire financier, who di£d in a New York City jail in 2019, but has long denied any impropriety.

Over the years, Gates has sought to downplay his yearslong relationship with Epstein, claiming they did not have a “business relationship or friendship” and alleging all of their meetings were in group settings. He also previously denied attending any of Epstein’s parties or going to his various residences.

Senegal coach Pape Thiaw rejects crowdfunding from Senegalese fans over AFCON fine

AFCON-winning coach, Pape Thiaw, has politely rejected a crowdfunding campaign launched by Senegalese fans to help pay a fine imposed on him following the Africa Cup of Nations final.

Pape was banned for five Confederation of African Football (CAF) matches after a chaotic Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final against Morocco this month. He was also handed a $100,000 fine.

Supporters had earlier mobilised online, raising funds in solidarity for the coach after reports emerged that he was fined over comments and actions linked to the tense aftermath of the AFCON final.

However, in a statement attributed to the coach, Thiaw expressed deep gratitude to the fans but made it clear that he would not accept the donations. He thanked supporters for their love and concern, stressing that their backing meant more to him than any financial contribution.

“People of Senegal, my family, your solidarity since the announcement of the sanctions has touched me deeply. Thank you for the love you show me every day,” Thiaw wrote in a social media post.

“However, I humbly ask you not to organise fundraising campaigns in my name. While I understand and appreciate this generosity, I encourage you to redirect those funds to more urgent causes, to help those who truly need them.”

In total, CAF fined the Senegalese federation a combined $615,000, with Morocco fined $415,000. Thiaw’s five-match ban will be served in upcoming CAF competitions but will not affect his presence at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he is expected to lead the Teranga Lions from the sidelines as they compete on the global stage.

The Stonebwoy collaboration cost me over K600,000 – Yo Maps

The Stonebwoy collaboration cost me over K600,000 – Yo Maps

MULTI-award winning Zambian artiste Elton Mulenga, whose stage name is Yo Maps has lifted the curtain on the high cost of stardom, revealing that his collaboration with Ghanaian heavyweight Stonebwoy, swallowed over K600,000 from his pocket to produce.

Yo Maps said what fans see as a four-minute masterpiece is actually a long, expensive journey.

From flights and accommodation in South Africa to paying dancers, models and the full production crew, the project became a major investment, one he admits cannot be recovered overnight through music alone.

Appearing on Phoenix FM yesterday, Yo Maps explained that in Zambia, music revenue flows like a narrow stream, not a river.

According to him, even charging about K250,000 per performance, he would need three to four shows just to recover what was spent, underlining why many artists struggle to reinvest in their brands.

He highlighted how difficult it is for artistes to rely solely on shows and streams to fund big productions.

The superstar noted that many of his music videos are not financed by music income, but by other business ventures, stressing that about 70 percent of his earnings come from outside music.

The ‘I wanna eat’ hitmaker stated that talent may open the door, but business sense keeps the lights on.

“Most of us Zambian artistes don’t know how to invest in our music, we need to understand music business. You can be one of the biggest artiste in the country but the money we get from shows is not sustainable, there are few artistes that invest in their brands,” he said.

“We should create business away from music so that the business can be able to support and sustain us.”

He warned that many artistes shine on stage but struggle behind the scenes because they fail to invest in their craft and branding.

“If I say am charging k250,000 to perform at your event, and if you give me that money after the performance, that money isn’t entirely for Yo Maps, I have a team that I need to pay,” he added.

“Music is my passion, but I’m also a hustler. I own more than 16 plots and often buy and sell land. When you buy a plot, it means your money is working for you, because land appreciates over time and that’s the kind of business I focus on.”

Yo Maps emphasised that true hardwork always comes with sacrifice.

The singer further urged his fellow artistes to plant their roots beyond the studio, saying the industry demands both creativity and strategy to survive.

BURKINA FASO MILITARY GOVERNMENT DISSOLVES 100 POLITICAL PARTIES

BURKINA FASO MILITARY GOVERNMENT DISSOLVES 100 POLITICAL PARTIES

BURKINA Faso’s military government dissolved all political parties on Thursday, whose activities had been suspended since the military rulers seized power in 2022.

Captain Ibrahim Traore took over in a September 2022 coup after toppling another junta and has since sharply muzzled dissenting voices.

Parties were previously banned from holding public gatherings but still allowed to operate internally.

“The government believes that the proliferation of political parties has led to abuses, fuelled divisions among citizens and weakened the social fabric,” the presidency said in a readout of a cabinet meeting.

A draft law dissolving political parties will now be “sent to the Transitional Legislative Assembly as soon as possible” said territorial administration minister Emile Zerbo.

The assets of dissolved parties would be transferred to the state, he added.

The decision, he continued, aims to “preserve national unity, strengthen the coherence of government action and pave the way for reforming political governance”.

The decision has phased out 100 political parties, 15 of which have representatives in the parliament.

Traore’s 2022 coup ousted Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, who had taken power only nine months earlier.

After going into exile in Togo, Damiba was regularly accused by Burkina’s military rulers of planning coup plots and assassination attempts the latest earlier this month.

Togo extradited him this month back to Burkina Faso.

34-Year-Old Man Arrested After Pretending to Be a Baby to Get Free Kisses from Unsuspecting Moms

34-Year-Old Man Arrested After Pretending to Be a Baby to Get Free Kisses from Unsuspecting Moms

A 34-year-old man was arrested this week after allegedly pretending to be a baby in order to receive free kisses from unsuspecting mothers in public spaces.

According to witnesses, the fully grown man—measuring a suspicious 1.8 meters tall and sporting a beard that screamed tax-paying adult—was found lying in a stroller at a local mall, wrapped in a blanket and making aggressive “goo-goo ga-ga” noises.

“He was very convincing at first,” said one mother. “Until the baby asked for a Wi-Fi password and complained about inflation.”

Police reports state that the suspect would roll up to moms, stare intensely, then extend his arms while puckering his lips—classic baby behaviour, except for the fact that he also asked if they were “single” in between naps.

Shoppers became suspicious when the so-called infant rejected mashed banana, demanded a double cheeseburger, and complained that his lower back was “acting up again.”

“He cried like a baby, yes,” said a security guard. “But real babies don’t cry about unpaid car insurance.”

Authorities say the man carried multiple disguises, including oversized diapers, a pacifier connected to a Bluetooth device, and a onesie labeled ‘Mama’s Little Tax Deduction’. Investigators also found anti-wrinkle cream and a gym membership card hidden inside the stroller.

When confronted, the suspect allegedly defended himself, saying, “A kiss is a kiss. Love has no age limit. Also, babies don’t pay rent.”

Psychologists have described the case as “a cry for help” and “the strongest argument yet for ID checks at stroller level.”

The man now faces multiple charges, including Impersonating an Infant, Crimes Against Common Sense, and Unlawful Use of ‘Baby Voice’ After Puberty.

At press time, lawmakers were reportedly considering new legislation requiring all babies over six months old to show proof of birth certificate, soft skull, and inability to pronounce the word “responsibility.”

As for the unsuspecting moms, many say they are recovering well—though some admit they now look at real babies with suspicion.

“If a baby asks me for my number again,” one mother said, “I’m calling the police immediately.”

18-year-old South African Teen Develops Earring That Records Attackers and Alerts Police

18-year-old South African Teen Develops Earring That Records Attackers and Alerts Police

An 18-year-old South African innovator Bohlale Mphahlele has developed a wearable earrings device designed to help victims of violent attacks.

The earring, which she calls Alerting Earring, captures photo and video evidence and alert authorities instantly.

It is equipped with a hidden camera and emergency alert system.

When activated during an attack, the earring can take photographs or record video of the perpetrator, transmit the wearer’s location, and send real-time alerts to emergency contacts and law enforcement.

Mphahlele, age 18, began working on the idea while still in school.

She says her invention was motivated by the growing crisis of violence against women and girls in South Africa.

The device is currently at prototype stage and not yet available for sale.

Mphahlele’s company, Mphahlele Alerts, is still refining the technology and seeking production partners and investors to scale manufacturing.

The Opposition Carelessly Gave Away Kasama Seat – Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

The Opposition Carelessly Gave Away the Seat

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba Wrote;

Preening from the Chawama Constituency by-election electoral victory, the Opposition moved into Kasama with overwhelming confidence and hope that it would score a double.

But as matters quickly unfolded, the Opposition learnt nothing from Chawama.

Citizen First, Socialist Party along with United Prosperous and Peaceful Party (UPPZ), New Focus Party (NFP) competed alongside the Patriotic Front’s candidate standing under Tonse Alliance on the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) and the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND).

Like the Chawama race, this was expected to be a two-horse race between the UPND and the PF or its derivative as the mayoral seat was held by the Patriotic Front.

But the ranking of the Opposition choose to use the by-elections to test the depth of the waters, try out their own system and to sell their presodential candidates.

It became clear, that the Patriotic Front, expected to win theough its surrogates, was engaged in acts of self sabotaged.

The campaign in Chawama exposed the deepening rift within the former ruling party.

While Acting President Given Lubinda led a strong comprising; Matero MP, Miles Sampa and former Ministers, Chishimba Kambwili and Lawrence Sichalwe, Mporokoso MP, Brian Mundubile and his loyal team of MPs conspicously stayed away from the campaigns.

At the height of the campaigns in Chawama, news filtered through that the Lubinda led Patriotic Front was expelled from the Tonse Alliance, a political alliance where the Party had drawn Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) National Cingress Party (NCP) and now Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD).

The political alliance is an electoral pact to enable the PF to participate in elections following President Hakainde Hichilema’s determined quest and schemes to ban and prevent the former ruling party from participating in elections, and has engaged in schemes to diminish its past political influence on order to stop it from reclaiming its past political fortunes and control.

The meeting to expel the PF was strangely attended apparently, by senior Members of the Central Committee that included among othersbBrian Mundubile and Mutotwe Kafwaya.

When this broke out, the media defence of the unprecedented action to expel the PF announced by Tonse Alliance National Coordinator, Zumani Zimba and Vice Chairperson Apostle Dan Pule, were never denied or denounced by both Mundubile and Kafwaya.

The PF immediately declared this meeting illegal as it was not chaired by Lubinda and threatened any PF member associating with the break-away entity with stern disciplinary action inclusing ultimate expulsion.

Lubinda also convened his own Tonse Alliance Meeting that attracted 13 new political parties and some civil society groupings.

When the Chawama win came, it only went to emphasise the deepening divisions in the former ruling party.

Lubinda’s team celebrated the electoral victory with an impromptu drive through into Chawama that was joined by the excited residents while the Mundubile camp only issued a terse and dry congratulatory statement to the winner Brightwell Nundwe.

Instead, Mundubile and his team took the glory to Kasama and appeared in a show of self-promotional force.

Earlier, before the break-up, Lubinda proposed that Tonse Alliance should use the PF adopted candidate, Peter Yuda Chikweti, on the Socialist Party as Special Purpose Vehicle for Kasama Mayoral Election as a quid-pro-quo, or reward to the Fed M’membe organisations that had campaigned with the Alliance in Chawama and had deployed support resources into the campaigns.

This proposal from Lubinda and the PF attracted anger, mistrust and recriminations from the Mundubile camp in Tonse Alliance as  Socialist Party was not a formal member of the Alliance and was a source of earlier contraversial botched disciplinary actions against Lubinda and Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda driven by Spokesperson Sean Tembo and Zumani Zimba.

When Lubinda’s team announced a trip into Kasama to beef up the camapign, it was met with a dangerous and threatening leaked viral audio attributed to former Northern Province Chairperson, Chipili Chomba, that warmed that if Lubinda stepped into Kasama, he would be met by unkown consequences.

Chipili was among the six Member of the Central Committee removed at the eve of the scheduled November 2025 party’s General Conference which Lubinda postponed once again.

Clearly the mayoral campaigns in Kasama had unfprtunately become a mere side-show to the deepening divisions in the Party.

While the Chawama win acted as a hopeful trigger to a despairing nation,if successful, may tilt the outcome of the August 2026 General Elections against the UPND, but the Patriotic Front was, instead, steeped into tit-for-tat political battles.

All national eyes were turned to Kasama.

Kasama has 138,000 registered voters, 19 wards, two Constituencies(Kasama and Lukashya) and 218 polling stations.

Therefore the work needed in Kasama was immense and required extensive resources such as many vehicles, over 440 polling party agents and man power to set up a strong command centre and ward campaign centres.

Instead the nation was greeted by the continous wrangling in the PF that culminated with a shock Conference in Lusaka, comprising almost the entire senior team withdrawn from Kasama to purport to elect Mundubile as President of the break-away Tonse Alliance.

On the other hand, the UPND, intensively covered in electoral disgrace from Chawama, were not going to experience another electoral set back.

The UPND deployed in Kasama, a strong team led by Commerce Minister Chipoka Mulenga, Mines Minister, Paul Kabuswe and Sports Minister, Elvis Nkandu who were joined by over ten ministers, reguonal district commissioners and horde of cadres transported from Lusaka and Choma.

The ruling Party placed at the centre of the campaign, Kasama PF MP, Sibongile Mwamba who did not spare time to buy members of the PF structures and Ward Councillors in the two constituencies.

The UPND proceeded to spend huge amounts in buying voters and stakeholders.
At the last day, the Electoral Commission of Zambia brought in teo Zambia Airforce Helicopters demonstrating the vastness of the district and expanse of work ahead.

Instead the Patriotic Front was consumed in its own macabre of self-anhilation.

On yhe eve of the election, Archbishop Ignatius Chama from the Atchdiocese of Kasama issued a pre-election message of hope, urging a mostly devout catholic  voter population to turn up in large numbers to express themselves and despite the bounty corrupt gifts openly being given (by the UPND) to vote wisely.

This was a clear bonus message for the Opposition that bolstered the last mile campaign.

And the early vote results showed quickly that this seat would be won by the Opposition.

The votes in the urban areas of Kasama were clunted before many witnesses and Tonse Alliance Patrick Chikweti Yuda opened what appeared to be unassailable lead.

It was not.

Kasama and the nation woke up to a rude shock that the votes from far flung polling staions in rural areas, where the despair and disgruntledness of unpaid farmers, poor feeder roads, lack of boreholes, apparently voted overhwelmingly for the UPND.

Recognising that the skeptical identified this as manipulation of electoral results, the UPND, began to sing CDF and FISP as reason the rural community could have given them such a generous vote.

The UPND had also unleashed violence with over 5 people from the Opposition injured and admitted to Kasama General Hospital while the public damage caused so vehicles belonging to Mpika MP, Francis Kapyanga and Lukashy MP, George Chisanga extensively damaged.

In the end, the ECZ announced that the UPND’s Bryson Simposya had won the by-election with 17,647 votes, while the PF/FDD Candidate Peter Chikweti Yuda who polled 14,302.

This is an election victory squandered by the Patriotic Front by its careless and continued in-fighting thereby causing self-harm.

The electoral outcome also brought new perspectives and insights on both the Citizen First and Socialist Party, who performed unexpectedly poorly, that this development raise fresh urgent questions, but this a debate for another day.

CONGRATULATIONS UPND, OPPOSITION HAVE EYES BUT THEY CAN’T SEE- KBN TV EDITORIAL

CONGRATULATIONS UPND, OPPOSITION HAVE EYES BUT THEY CAN’T SEE

A KBN TV EDITORIAL

Say or believe what you want, but the ruling party out numbered and out performed the opposition in the just ended Kasama Mayoral by-election.

Failure has many fathers. Some pundits have already come up a theory to try and blame northerners for failing to retain the Mayoral seat previously held by the opposition.

To the contrary, numbers show that Kasama voters delivered an opposition victory which was merely fragmented!

A combined top three opposition tally (FDD: 14,302 representing 34.03%, CF: 4,405 representing 10.48% and UPPZ: 2,988 representing 7.11%) would have collectively handed a united opposition win with 21,695 votes against UPND Alliance’s 17,647 votes which put them in front to win the highly contested Mayoral seat in Kasama.

Essentially, the picture above demonstrates that had the opposition worked together as a coalition, UPND would have lost in Kasama.

A fragmented opposition now licking its own wounds, was no match for the UPND.

The UPND was in it to win. The Chawama Parliamentary by-election loss was too bitter to be repeated. They needed to have reason to believe that they were still loved by the  masses and Kasama was the litmus test.

Therefore, they took the assignment seriously. They had presence, they deployed their best available arsenal. An army of branded and well equipped cadres was present.

Sibongile Mwamba as serving Member of Parliament, campaigned against her sponsoring party.  Elvis Nkandu, Chipoka Mulenga, Frank Tayali, Levy Ngoma, District Commissioners, to mention but a few, were all present till the last whistle.

To the contrary, a fragmented and resource starved opposition went into Kasama, each trying to prove a devastating and costly miscalculation of their own relevance.

The result of Kasama, instead of strengthening the opposition’s disposition, is a resounding hollow slap in their faces collectively, and a mockery to their narrow partisan interests that are devoid of a national character.

Opposition figures casually strolled into Kasama, showed face and took the next available flight back to Lusaka while leaving a hungry and victory starved ruling party machinery intact on the ground.

The ruling party took Kasama as a proof of concept and it worked. It gave them insights on what they need to do even if it means winning by a narrow margin in August.

They plucked a template: deploy, motivate cadres, dominate, spend, capitalise on rural hunger and desperation, stay on the ground and defend the vote until the last day.

https://youtu.be/hwoW3uDFsJg?si=d2lzMYgThCdrt0bU

If Kasama were the results of the August 2026 general elections, UPND would have won by a slender margin or at most forced a rerun.

The 17,647 final tally they harvested only represents 41.99% which is below the 50+1 threshold required to secure a win.

On the flip side, a combined top three opposition tally (FDD: 14,302 representing 34.03%, CF: 4,405 representing 10.48% and UPPZ: 2,988 representing 7.11%) would collectively have handed a united opposition win of  21,695 in Kasama.

Essentially, what this means is that had the opposition worked together, UPND would have lost Kasama.

We therefore disagree with those who want to launder the opposition malaise and blame northerners for a UNPD win in Kasama

Northerners turned up and voted for the opposition, but a fragmented opposition squandered the win. Stop blaming the northerners. Leave them alone and blame the inconsistent, fragmented and self-serving opposition.

The job has been cutout for Levy Ngoma and UPND: divide the opposition, fragment their vote and win  the August 2026 elections.

Fire on the Ground, Ice at the Top: The PF’s Path to 2026

Fire on the Ground, Ice at the Top: The PF’s Path to 2026

The Patriotic Front (PF) currently exists in a state of paradox. At the grassroots, the party is a furnace, fueled by a loyal base and a “fire” that refuses to be extinguished despite the 2021 electoral loss. However, at the summit, the party is frozen in “ice”, stiffened by leadership fragmentation, legal battles, and a chilling lack of cohesion.

As the 2026 General Election approaches, the PF finds itself at a crossroads. The choice is stark: unify or be labeled the “traitor” of the opposition, the party that dashed the hopes of a change-seeking electorate because it couldn’t conquer its own internal egos.

The current state of the PF is characterized by defragmentation. While the grassroots remain a potent political force, the top-tier leadership is bogged down by:
* Multiple centers of power claiming legitimacy.
* Individual ambitions superseding the collective survival of the party.
* A culture of suspicion that prevents the formation of a united front among themselves.
.If these “wrangles” persist, the “PF” will not only lose the 2026 bid but will also be historically blamed for splitting the opposition vote, effectively handing a “free pass” to the ruling party.

To thaw the ice and harness the fire, the PF must adopt a radical, disciplined approach to reconciliation:

1.The party must move away from being a “personality cult” and return to its constitutional roots. Success is not about who is “stronger,” but about which structure is more legal and transparent. A credible General Conference is the only “reset button” available to settle the legitimacy question once and for all.

2. Leadership contestants must realize that 100% of nothing is still nothing. A fragmented PF gets 0% of the power in 2026. The factions must negotiate a “Grand Bargain” where losers of internal contests are guaranteed influential roles in a shadow cabinet or party structure, ensuring no one is “left out” to rot.

3. Unity does not mean silence; it means order. The party must enforce strict internal discipline. Public “washing of dirty linen” on social media should be penalized. A unified communication channel is essential to project unity rather than a “party-in-crisis.”

4. The PF is currently perceived as the “big brother” of the opposition. If it fails to unite internally, it becomes a liability to broader alliances. To avoid the “traitor” label, the PF must prioritize the collective goal of the opposition over individual party dominance.

5. Leaders must ask themselves: “Is my ambition worth the disappointment of millions of Zambians?” If the 2026 bid fails due to internal greed, the electorate will never forgive the current leadership. The “traitor” tag will be a permanent stain on their political legacies.

The PF has the “fire” of the people, but the “ice” of the leadership is putting it out. 2026 will not be won by the most vocal faction, but by the most united one. The party must choose between the short-term gratification of individual egos and the long-term survival of their political movement.
Unity is no longer a choice; it is a survival manual.

Given the oddes, “PF” should, Lead, Follow, or Get out of the way. The clock is ticking toward 2026. If the Patriotic Front continues to trade its massive grassroots potential for the petty currency of internal squabbles, it will commit political suicide in full view of the nation.

Zambians are looking for a lifeboat, not a sinking ship occupied by captains fighting over the steering wheel. History is a harsh judge: you will either be remembered as the architects of a democratic comeback or the “Judas” of the opposition who traded the people’s hope for thirty pieces of silver and a bruised ego. Unite or perish; there is no third option.

PF LACK MORAL AUTHORITY TO CRITICISE OUR PERFORMANCE — HARRY KALABA

PF LACK MORAL AUTHORITY TO CRITICISE OUR PERFORMANCE — HARRY KALABA

Harry Kalaba has said that the Patriotic Front (PF) has no moral authority to mock his party’s performance, arguing that their political relevance ended a long time ago.

He stated that PF is now busy promoting other political parties, while his party continues to move forward with growing popularity across the country.

Kalaba further expressed confidence that his party is firmly positioned to contest the upcoming General Elections, unlike PF, which he described as being in a state of uncertainty and political limbo.

He added that PF is still mourning its political decline, even more than the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD), which participated in the recent elections.

ANALYSIS: Kasama’s Flip is not an Accident But Arithmetic

🇿🇲 ANALYSIS: Kasama’s Flip is not an Accident But Arithmetic

Kasama has now produced the headline many thought would take longer: the ruling United Party for National Development has taken the mayoral seat for the first time. Predictably, the loss has triggered rigging claims from sections of the opposition, including online messaging from figures such as Emmanuel Mwamba.

Those claims are only logical when matched with evidence, not emotion. A competitive election, supervised and declared by the Electoral Commission of Zambia, does not become theft simply because a stronghold has been breached.

The numbers tell a cleaner story than the noise. Facts first, in 2021, the PF candidate Theresa Kolala won with 57,613 votes, 66.45 percent, while Bywell Simposya got 25,011 votes, 28.85 percent, out of 86,680 total votes cast.

Fast forward, in 2026 by-election, the same Bywell Simposya has won with 17,647 votes, while the Forum for Democracy and Development candidate has polled 14,303, with a total of 42,929 votes cast out of 138,286 registered voters. Turnout fell hard, and low turnout always re-writes old maps. A party can “lose votes” in raw numbers yet still gain in political share and positioning.

UPND’s real gain is not just the win. It is the share. Using the official totals in public domain, UPND’s vote is about 41 percent of ballots cast. In 2021, it sat around 29 percent. This is growth in a place often described as locked. Even critics who do not like the ruling party have to concede the direction of travel. Rural and peri-urban penetration is now translating into a win, not just “acceptability” talk.

The opposition, meanwhile, is trapped in a pattern it keeps refusing to treat as a problem. Fragmentation. Add up the non-UPND vote in this by-election and the scale becomes obvious: FDD 14,303 plus Citizens First 4,405 plus United Progressive People’s Party 2,988 plus Socialist Party 2,211 plus NFP 472. This combined opposition pool is 24,379, well above UPND’s 17,647. This is the blunt lesson. A united front would likely have carried the day. Six banners competing in the same lane is how ruling parties survive even when the ground is angry.

Kasama also tested a second opposition habit: grievance mobilisation as a campaign substitute. Chishimba Kambwili tried to turn funeral attendance into a voting instruction, building regional grievance around who showed up and who did not, with President Hakainde Hichilema and Vice President Mutale Nalumango as the targets. Voters heard it. Voters still voted. That does not mean people did not feel the sting of the moment. It means they did not accept grievance as a ballot paper.

Claims of a stolen vote also run into an uncomfortable fact: the same government has publicly accepted losses. President Hichilema congratulated opponents after Chawama, and the by-elections have largely been peaceful and procedurally concluded.

This does not prove perfection, but it weakens the lazy habit of calling every defeat “rigging” before the ink dries. If the opposition wants the rigging argument to land nationally in August, it has to stop burning the credibility of the claim on every by-election.

The deeper issue sits inside opposition strategy, not inside ECZ tallies. Loud online parties keep discovering, late, that Facebook is not a polling station. Kasama’s result reads like a warning to groups that campaign through press briefings, tribal heat, or constant funeral politics. It also reads like a warning to UPND: the margin is not a landslide, turnout is low, and Northern Province is contested territory, not conquered land.

Bottom line: Kasama flipped because the opposition vote split, turnout collapsed, and UPND’s ground game has matured since 2021. If the opposition wants to stop the red advance, it needs one candidate, one message, and one structure. If it wants to keep producing excuses, it will keep producing defeats.

KASAMA FLIPS RED – THE ELVIS NKANDU POLITICAL ENIGMA

KASAMA FLIPS RED – THE ELVIS NKANDU POLITICAL ENIGMA

Every by-election Elvis Nkandu, the Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts, touches turns red.

He must be, like they say in law-enforcement, a person of interest.

In football, he would be that dangerous striker that gets to be marked heavily.

There must be something he is doing right that turns every by-election he participates in red.

To answer this question, someone must unpack the person of Elvis Nkandu.

What are his campaign methods? What are his organizational skills?

What kind of resources are at his disposal – human and material? How does he apply them?

How much time does he put into the campaigns?

These and many other questions must be asked to ascertain patterns that may be studied and if found to possess scientific value,  adapted and applied elsewhere.

This may be done by the ruling party itself for purposes of being methodical and maintain the winning trajectory.

It may equally be done by the opposition as well.

Knowledge of the opponent’s strategies and tactics is an indispensable resource if the counter-attack is to be effective.

Research is needed to inform electoral campaign designs.

Critical thinking skills must be applied. Who assumes the leadership and management role of the electoral machinery, the resources put together and the methodology adopted must all reflect careful thought.

It’s knowledge management.

Without this approach, you will be flying blind like when the instrument panel of the plane blacks out completely thousands of feet above sea level.

If that scenario is dangerous in aviation, it’s equally dangerous to go into a campaign without careful thought.

So, pay attention to Elvis Nkandu and see if you can crack his electoral campaign enigma.

REFLECTIONS FROM MWIKA ROYAL VILLAGE, NKULUNGWE, CHINSALI!

January 31, 2026

Fellow citizens and opposition political leaders, the time for division is over. We called for an opposition electoral pact in the Chawama and Kasama by-elections.

We achieved some unity in Chawama, and the opposition won. It was rejected by some elements in PF and Tonse, who are opposed to Given Lubinda in the Kasama mayoral by-election and the opposition lost. Let’s learn something from this!

Our nation is yearning for hope, and that hope rests on our ability to stand together. We must swallow our individual pride, rise above personal ambition, and form a strong united pact.

Let us choose collaboration over fragmentation and unite our structures to build a formidable opposition force. Together, we can build a nation that is more just, fair, humane, equitable, and prosperous for all. Let’s unite for August 13, 2026!

Brian Mundubile: The bald Pot-belly Prophet, ‘Bald Black Moses’…is BM8 marching towards State House?

Brian Mundubile: The bald Pot-belly Prophet, ‘Bald Black Moses’✍️

…is BM8 marching towards State House?

Amb. AM 29 Jan. 26.

Hot FM Review

If you had told a random Zambian on Cairo Road last year that Brian Mundubile, affectionately known as BM8, would rise from the shadows of parliamentary benches to stand toe-to-toe with President Hakainde Hichilema, the laughter would have been deafening.

Someone might even have handed you a steaming cup of katubi brew to sober you up from such political hallucinations.

Yet here we are, BM8, bald as a polished gourd and pot-bellied like every favourite uncle at a family gathering, now stands at the gates of State House as the newly minted leader of the opposition alliance.

He is the David to President Hichilema’s Goliath, the unwilling but determined humble hero poised for a showdown on 13 August.

Brian’s potbelly is no ordinary belly; it is a national symbol, a rolling drum of humility, a reminder that leadership is not about six-pack abs but about carrying the weight of the people.

His bald head gleams like a beacon of honesty, reflecting the light of a man who has nothing to hide, just like his soft measured laugh.

He is the uncle who arrives at every wedding with a booming laugh, a pocket full of wisdom, and a baritone voice that could calm a restless crowd in Soweto Market.

I recall him bringing these unifying calming qualities to my late mother Elizabeth Milupi Mukwita’s funeral back in the day, when he could have been somewhere else.

BM8 is not just a politician; he is a family man of five, a ‘bashimpundu’—father of twins—whose Christian faith anchors him like a rock in turbulent waters.

In a land where leaders often forget their roots, Brian wears his faith and family like a badge of honour. He prays before speeches, blesses his children before rallies, and reminds Zambians that leadership without morality is a hollow drum.

What Happened today?

Today, Zambia’s most popular private radio station, Hot FM 87.7, trembled under the weight of BM8’s baritone.

Neither too loud nor too soft, his voice sliced through the static like a machete through tall grass or hot knife through butter.

Callers buzzed in like bees to honey, chanting the hashtag #BM8 as if it were a new gospel hymn. “Poverty levels above 80 percent are unacceptable in a mineral-rich nation like Zambia,” BM8 thundered. “Power must be used to lift people out of poverty, not punish them.”

https://youtu.be/hwoW3uDFsJg?si=tFDgih5dSJmDR6n1

Words are cheap in politics, but BM8’s words carried the weight of scripture. Even hardened critics found themselves nodding involuntarily, as if hypnotized by the uncle’s sermon

“How can we be Africa’s second-largest producer of copper and still be poor?” he asked. The question hung in the air like incense in a cathedral, impossible to ignore.

Hon. Brian Mundubile is no ordinary challenger; he is dubbed a Black Moses, bald head shining like Mount Sinai, potbelly leading the way through Zambia’s political wilderness.

He promises to part the Zambezi River of poverty and lead his people to the promised land of jobs, unity, and dignity. That’s what he said on radio Hot today.

Fuel prices may be sky-high, mealie meal more expensive than second-hand shoes, and load-shedding the only reliable service—but BM8 insists the story can change.

Inflation may dance in double digits, but Brian dances harder, with humility as his rhythm and faith as his drumbeat.

How does President HH counter BM8?

President HH enters the race battered by economic woes and haunted by the ghost of Edgar Chagwa Lungu, whose grave remains empty eight months after his passing.

Madam Esther Lungu still cannot lay ECL to rest, and whispers of spiritual warfare hover over Zambian politics like a persistent cough.

Against this back-drop, BM8 rises like a phoenix. African politics loves an under-dog, especially one with a potbelly and humility.

Côte d’Ivoire had Ouattara, Kenya had Kibaki, and now Zambia has Mundubile—the uncle who refuses to be written off.

On Hot FM, callers unleashed their frustrations, and BM8, ever the constitutional lawyer and construction mogul, answered each with measured respect.

When asked about regionalism, he invoked the gospel of Kaunda: “One Zambia, One Nation.” “A president should not speak divisions,” he declared.

“People from Northern Province must work in Western and Southern Province, not just their own provinces.

That is how we build unity.” His message was clear: unity, not division; empowerment, not marginalization.

BM8’s economic vision sparkles with satire and sincerity. “Out of every $5 billion that enters HOT FM Zambia our national, my government will ensure at least $2 billion goes to Zambians,” he promised. “I want Zambian billionaires in chitenge, not a system that salutes foreigners and scorns locals.”

It was a statement that made even sceptics pause. Imagine billionaires in chitenge suits, potbellies proudly displayed, humility intact. That is BM8’s Zambia.

As the program ended, BM8 displayed none of the braggadocio of a man basking in fresh victory. Instead, he extended olive branches.
“Reverend Dan Pule is a great man. We will work together. He is my big brother.”

BM8 called for unity with Makebi Zulu, Greyford Monde etc, and even those who disagree with him. For BM8, politics is not personal—it is pastoral.

BM8’s mission is to reduce poverty, create jobs, and stop the theft of resources and hand them to foreigners.

As I write, BM8 faces a mighty Goliath in President HH. But armed with wit, humility, and that lovable uncle aura, he stands a good chance in my humble education.

The battlelines are drawn, and Zambians prepare to choose who will walk into the sunset with the best chick called Zambia on Independence Avenue.

Perhaps the restless spirit of sixth President Edgar Lungu, who anointed Brian before his death in Pretoria, will watch over this duel.

Perhaps Zambia will finally embrace its apparent Black Moses, the ‘bashimpundu’ with a potbelly, bald head, and baritone voice.

As the French say, Tout vient à point à qui sait attendre—’everything comes in time to those who wait’. And Zambia, weary of waiting, may just find its humble hero in BM8.
Let the Game of Thrones BM8.

A group purorting to be People’s Party oust Dr. Sebastian Kopulande, elect Mwape Mandona as its President

PEOPLE’S PARTY IN CRISIS, PURPORTED MEMBERS ELECT NEW PRESIDENT TO REPLACE DR. SEBASTIAN KOPULANDE

Purported members of the People’s Party have gathered at Melsim Lodge on Alick Nkhata Road to hold an Extraordinary Conference to oust its leader, Dr. Sebastian Kopulande.

This is a hashed process by former members, Carlson Chingwengwezi and Agness Kawandami who were recently expelled.

The Party learnt of the schemes and the National Executive Management Committee held a meeting and expelled the duo.

But the duo have gathered a motley crowd, accomodated them at Melsim Lodge, given them t-shirts to purport that they are members of the People’s Party and will hold an Extraordinary General Conference to expel Sebastian C. Kopulande.

The crowd has since elected a Mandona Mwape as the new flag bearer for the People’s Party.

The.Registrar of Societies recently changed office bearers from former Minister of Information, Mike Mulongoti, who was founder of the Party after a lengthy process that has taken over one year.

The schemes are being attributed to State House and its Special Assistant for Politics, Levy Ngoma.

Kopulande has been a recent vocal critic and has reported Speaker of the National Assembly to the SADC and Commonwealth Parliamentary Forums for misconduct and abrogating the Republican Constitution.

The action to oust Kopulande appears to stem from this report and other critical matters he has been raising.

In October 2023, Matero .ember of Parliament Miles Sampa held a purported Extraordinary Conference and took over the reigns of the Party.

In December 2023, a faction of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) supported by Ministry of Home Affairs, Joseph Akafumba, held a general conference in Kabwe, which resulted in the purported removal of Saboi Imboela as party president.

Similarly Phumulo Situmbeko, founder and sponsor of the New Era Democratic Party was ousted by a group led by Exilda Mwenya who now purports to be President and the Registrar of Societies have changed Office Bearers to reflect her team as the owners of the Party.

The earliest of these schemes was Citizen First President, Harry Kalaba who in October 2021, Harry Kalaba was embroiled in a staged leadership dispute within the Democratic Party (DP) and his Vice President Judith Kabemba proceeded to remove him and expel him. The action was quickly supported the Party and Kalaba lost control.

UNIP Predident, Bishop Trevor Mwamba also suffered similar attacks when he was removed as UNIP President. It took the intervention of the Lusaka High Court to reaffirm that Bishop Mwamba eas the legitimate leader of UNIP.

The court ordered a rival faction led by Col. Henry Muyoba to cease interfering in party affairs and reinstated the Secretary-General appointed by Mwamba’s Central Committee.

Earlier in the day, Kopulande issued the statement below;

30 January 2026
PEOPLE’S PARTY ANNOUNCES EXPULSION OF MS. AGNESS
KAWANDAMI AND MR. CARLSON CHINGWENGWEZI FOR GROSS
MISCONDUCT

The People’s Party wishes to formally inform the Zambian public, its members, supporters, and all stakeholders that Ms. Agness Kawandami and Mr. Carlson  Chingwengwezi have been expelled from the People’s Party with immediate effect, following findings of gross misconduct that are demonstrably prejudicial to the unity, discipline, constitutional order, and reputation of the Party.

The decision was taken on 29 January 2026 by members of the Party’s National Executive Committee led by the Party President, Dr. Sebastian C. Kopulande, acting in accordance with the authority vested in his office under Articles 14 and 25 of the People’s Party Constitution, after conclusive findings that
the two individuals jointly and individually engaged in serious violations of Party
rules and leadership authority.

GROUNDS FOR EXPULSION

The expulsions arise from established findings that Ms. Kawandami and Mr.
Chingwengwezi engaged in the following acts:
1. Organisation of an Unauthorised Assembly
The two were involved in planning and organising a gathering purporting to be an official People’s Party National Conference scheduled for 31 January 2026, without the knowledge, approval, or authority of the
Office of the Party President or the National Executive Committee.

2. Defiance of Party Leadership and Lack of Financial Accountability

When formally questioned regarding the sources of funding for their activities, they refused to provide the required information, displaying open insubordination. This raises very serious concerns about transparency,
accountability, and the existence of parallel or unauthorised funding sources within the Party whose purpose is to destabilize the Party and undermine its capacity to put up a strong showing in the forthcoming general elections.

3. Usurpation of Constitutional Authority
Without mandate, consultation, or approval from the Party’s lawful organs, they participated in drafting and proposing amendments to the Party Constitution, constituting a direct attempt to subvert established constitutional processes and undermine legitimate Party leadership.

4. Systematic Undermining of Party Unity and Structure

Their actions, taken collectively, amounted to a sustained pattern of conduct intended to foment factionalism, erode central authority, and destabilise the Party’s organisational structure, contrary to the letter and spirit of the Party Constitution

EFFECT OF THE DECISION
As a result of their expulsion:
• Ms. Agness Kawandami and Mr. Carlson Chingwengwezi cease to
be members of the People’s Party;
• They are stripped of all Party positions, titles, or committee memberships, if any;
• They are prohibited from representing themselves as members, officials, or agents of the People’s Party in any capacity whatsoever;
• They are barred from convening, attending, or participating in any Party meetings, functions, or activities, including any gathering purporting to be an official Party conference;
• Any breach of these directives will result in appropriate legal action, which may include civil or criminal proceedings.

PARTY POSITION

The People’s Party wishes to emphasise that this action is taken to protect the
Party’s unity. It reflects the Party’s unwavering commitment to:
• Constitutionalism and internal democracy;
• Organisational discipline and unity of purpose;
• Transparency, accountability, and respect for lawful authority;
• Protecting the integrity and credibility of the Party, especially at a critical
moment in Zambia’s democratic process.
The Party remains firmly focused on its national mission of restoring dignity,
unity, and economic empowerment for all Zambians, as articulated in its
Manifesto.

PUBLIC NOTICE

The general public and the Office of the Registrar of Societies are hereby formally notified that Ms. Agness Kawandami and Mr. Carlson Chingwengwezi do not represent the People’s Party in any capacity whatsoever, effective 29 January 2026.

Issued by:
People’s Party

MAKEBI ZULU SAYS ZAMBIA WILL NOT HAVE FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS WITHOUT PF ON THE BALLOT

MAKEBI ZULU SAYS ZAMBIA WILL NOT HAVE FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS WITHOUT PF ON THE BALLOT

By: Thomas Afroman Mwale
Patriotic Front (PF) presidential hopeful Makebi Zulu has declared that Zambia will not hold free and fair elections on August 13, 2026, unless the PF appears on the ballot.

Mr Zulu accused President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration of interfering in the internal affairs of the PF and urged government to restore the party to its original leadership.

He stressed that credible elections must not only be guaranteed on election day but that the entire build-up to the polls should inspire public confidence and ensure a level political playing field.

Reacting to President Hichilema’s reaffirmation of holding credible, peaceful, and transparent elections ahead of the 2026 general elections, Mr Zulu argued that there is currently no level playing field in Zambian politics, further appealing to government to allow competition to thrive freely.

Meanwhile, Mr Zulu declared his readiness to contest the presidency, citing his governance experience as a member of Parliament, cabinet minister, and holder of various government portfolios.

He made the remarks on Phoenix FM’s “Let the People Talk” programme.

KAFWAYA’S REVISIONISM WON’T HIDE THE REAL AGENDA – PF WAS SABOTAGED, NOT FAILED BY ITS LEADERSHIP

KAFWAYA’S REVISIONISM WON’T HIDE THE REAL AGENDA – PF WAS SABOTAGED, NOT FAILED BY ITS LEADERSHIP
Hon. Mutotwe Kafwaya’s lengthy lecture on PF’s challenges is a classic case of political hypocrisy mixed with selective amnesia.

While he pretends to sympathise with PF members, he carefully avoids mentioning the elephant in the room — the systematic interference, manipulation and weaponisation of state institutions aimed at destroying the Patriotic Front.

PF was not destroyed by its leadership.
PF was deliberately destabilised.
To suggest that the party collapsed on its own is an insult to the intelligence of Zambians who have witnessed:

• Illegal recognition of rogue leadership by the Speaker
• Court injunctions selectively applied
• Government silence when PF was hijacked
• Open protection of splinter factions
Hon. Miles Sampa’s so-called “conference” did not happen in a vacuum. It happened in an environment where law enforcement and state machinery conveniently looked the other way.

If this was mere “leadership failure,” why was one faction instantly recognised while the legitimate one was blocked at every turn?

Why were party processes frustrated through courts the moment PF attempted to reorganise?
That is not failure.
That is sabotage.

Hon. Kafwaya also twists the return of late President Edgar Lungu to active politics to suit his storyline. President Lungu did not return because of incompetence of PF leadership — he returned because democracy itself was under threat and PF was under siege.

He returned to defend the party and the people from a hostile political environment.
And history proved him right.
On the matter of injunctions, let it be clear:
It is not PF leadership fighting PF.
It is politically sponsored factions being used as tools to cripple the main opposition.

Hon. Chabinga’s circus — from illegal appointments to self-declaration as president — is the clearest evidence of external engineering, not organic party confusion.

To now blame PF leaders for refusing to bow to an imposed structure is dishonest.
As for conferences, how does one hold a democratic convention when:

• Party offices are locked
• Leaders are restrained by court orders
• Party identity is frozen
Is Hon. Kafwaya suggesting PF should violate court orders just to please commentators?

PF has remained lawful, disciplined and committed to constitutionalism — unlike those benefiting from chaos.
The so-called “elders’ advice” was not rejected. It was made impossible to implement because PF was legally suffocated.

One cannot run a race with both legs tied and then be accused of refusing to move.
Let us be clear:

PF members have not abandoned the party.
PF structures have not collapsed.
PF remains the strongest opposition force in Zambia.
What has happened is a calculated attempt to weaken PF ahead of elections.

Those now singing songs of “leadership failure” are either beneficiaries of this scheme or useful cheerleaders.
PF will not be lectured by those who watched silently — or applauded — as the party was undermined.

History will judge harshly those who dressed political sabotage as concern.
PF is rebuilding.
PF is standing firm.
PF will rise stronger.
No amount of propaganda will erase the will of the people.

ZAMBIA WILL NOT BE DRAGGED INTO GLOBAL GEOPOLITICS — HICHILEMA

ZAMBIA WILL NOT BE DRAGGED INTO GLOBAL GEOPOLITICS — HICHILEMA

President Hakainde Hichilema has said he understands the geopolitics among powerful nations but warned that Zambia should not be drawn into their disputes.

He stated that Zambia is too small to be entangled in global power struggles and only seeks partnerships based on mutual benefit, without being forced to choose sides.

Speaking during the 2026 Presidential Annual Greetings for members of the Diplomatic Corps in Lusaka, President Hichilema explained that visiting a particular country does not imply hostility toward others.

He emphasized that Zambia is open to cooperating with any nation, regardless of disagreements between global powers.

“When we are in Beijing, it does not mean we are against Washington. We do not want to be dragged into your geopolitics; we are too small. We are busy ensuring that schoolchildren sit on desks instead of the floor. Please do not draw us into those issuesvjust keep our world peaceful,” he said.

He further urged diplomats from powerful nations to work toward promoting global peace, security, and stability.

“You are the big players who should guarantee global peace, security, and stability so that we can all benefit. But when you drag us into your disputes, you create unnecessary pressure on us. So if I am in Beijing, it does not mean we are against Washington, London, Brussels, Rome, or Berlin,” he added.

The President reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to attracting investment and strengthening the economy

“We want to bring business back home to create opportunities for our people and reduce the cost of doing business. We understand the differences among you, but make our world safer,” he said.

President Hichilema also noted that Zambia remains committed to a rules-based international order that protects small countries and benefits the global community.
