Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson ‘agrees personal terms with Bayern Munich

German club, Bayern Munich have reached an agreement to sign Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.

The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in recent weeks.

Jackson, who joined Chelsea from Villarreal in 2023, has slipped down the pecking order following the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap this summer.

According to German outlet Bild, personal terms have been sorted between both parties, but Bayern Munich still needs to reach an agreement with Chelsea for the Senegalese’s signature.

The Bundesliga champions are considering a loan move for Jackson as the club’s sporting directors, Max Eberl and Christoph Freund, are “not allowed” to buy an offensive player this summer.

That would pave the way for the Blues to make a late push to sign Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United and Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig.

Like Jackson, Christopher Nkunku is also expected to leave Chelsea before the transfer deadline.

Head coach Enzo Maresca said last week: “Christo is with us like Nico, but it’s the same answer as Nico. We’ll see if they’re going to be here.

“It’s always better if they find a solution, as they are going to be more happy — and the club the same.

“But you need someone that is going to buy you. It’s not so easy.”

Trump signals willingness to meet Kim Jong Un this year

0

U.S. President Donald Trump expressed openness to meeting North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during a White House summit with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on Monday, August 25.

The meeting focused on reducing tensions on the Korean Peninsula and addressing Pyongyang’s expanding nuclear weapons program. Lee, who took office in June, praised Trump’s prior diplomatic efforts with North Korea, suggesting that his administration brought “more stability” to the region compared to recent years.

“I think you are the first president to have so much interest in the world’s peace issues and actually made achievements,” Lee said. “I hope you would make peace on the Korean Peninsula … and meet with Kim Jong Un.”

Trump responded positively, stating, “I will do that, and we’ll have talks. He’d like to meet with me. We look forward to meeting with him, and we’ll make relations better. You’ll help that.”

The visit was also a high-profile test for Lee, whose administration is navigating Trump’s “America First” trade stance while deepening U.S.-South Korea economic ties.

Major business announcements accompanied the summit, include:

1.Korean Air’s $50 billion deal to purchase aircraft and engines from Boeing, GE Aerospace, and CFM International.
2.Hyundai Motor Group’s increased U.S. investment from $21 billion to $26 billion.
3.Total South Korean investments in the U.S. are expected to reach $150 billion, Lee said.

In a symbolic exchange, Lee gifted Trump two embroidered MAGA cowboy hats, a custom golf putter, and a model of a Korean turtle warship. Lee quipped about building a Trump Tower in North Korea so he could “play golf in Pyongyang.”

However, whether a Trump-Kim meeting will materialize remains uncertain. North Korea’s state media recently denounced U.S.-South Korea military drills, calling them evidence of Washington’s intent to “occupy” the peninsula.

Lee warned that North Korea now has the capacity to produce 10–20 nuclear weapons annually, citing increased uranium enrichment—though independent verification is lacking. Analysts note Pyongyang’s missile tests have resumed, and ties with Russia are reportedly strengthening, with North Korean troops reportedly sent to support Moscow’s war in Ukraine.

Trump previously met Kim in 2018 and 2019, becoming the first sitting U.S. president to step into North Korea at the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). However, talks collapsed in Hanoi without a deal, and diplomatic efforts stalled afterward.

Since then, Kim has pledged to increase North Korea’s nuclear arsenal “exponentially” while advancing missile capabilities, including hypersonic and intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs).

Two g@y men are brutally whipped 76 times each in public over same-s£x relationship

Two g@y men were brutally whipped in public over their same-s£x relations in Aceh, Indonesia.

The lovers were flogged 76 times each in the conservative province after they were found guilty of s£xual relations by a court operating under strict Islamic law.

The men were part of a group of 10 who were flogged on Tuesday at a park in the provincial capital for a range of alleged crimes.

The pair were flogged separately with a rattan stick as a small crowd watched, according to an AFP journalist present.

Their initial sentences of 80 lashes each were reduced by four for four months spent in detention.

In April, local sharia police found the two men together at a public toilet in the same park where they were later flogged, said Roslina A. Djalil, head of Banda Aceh sharia police’s law enforcement.

‘A member of the public saw suspicious people and reported it,’ Roslina said.

Amnesty International condemned the punishment.

In a statement, its regional research director, Montse Ferrer, said: ‘This public flogging of two young men under Aceh’s Islamic Criminal Code for consensual s£x is a disturbing act of state-sanctioned discrimination and cruelty.

G@y s£x is outlawed in Aceh, which imposes a version of sharia, the Islamic legal code, but it is not illegal elsewhere in the world’s most populous Muslim majority country.

Elon Musk’s xAI sues Apple and OpenAI

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence startup, xAI, has filed a lawsuit against Apple and ChatGPT creator OpenAI in U.S. federal court in Texas, alleging an illegal conspiracy to block competition in the AI sector.

According to the lawsuit, Apple and OpenAI have “locked up markets to maintain their monopolies and prevent innovators like X and xAI from competing.” Apple, in partnership with OpenAI, has integrated ChatGPT into its devices, including iPhones, iPads, and Macs. xAI claims that without this exclusive deal, Apple would have no reason to limit the visibility of the X app and xAI’s Grok app in its App Store.

The company is seeking billions of dollars in alleged damages. Musk reinforced the claims on his social media platform X, stating, “A million reviews with 4.9 average for @Grok and still Apple refuses to mention Grok on any lists.” Musk had previously threatened to sue Apple, claiming that its App Store practices “make it impossible for any AI company besides OpenAI to reach #1 in the App Store.”

OpenAI described the filing as part of “Mr. Musk’s ongoing pattern of harassment,” while Apple has yet to comment.

xAI, launched less than two years ago, competes with Microsoft-backed OpenAI and Chinese startup DeepSeek. The company acquired X in March for $33 billion to enhance chatbot training capabilities and has integrated its Grok chatbot into Tesla vehicles.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT became the fastest-growing consumer application in history shortly after its launch in late 2022. Musk co-founded OpenAI with Sam Altman in 2015 as a nonprofit, and he is separately suing OpenAI and Altman in federal court in California over its conversion from a nonprofit to a for-profit business.

Apple’s App Store practices have faced scrutiny in other lawsuits, including an ongoing case by Fortnite maker Epic Games, in which a judge ordered Apple to allow greater competition for app payment options. The latest xAI lawsuit represents the tech billionaire’s growing pushback against what he sees as anti-competitive behaviour in the AI market.

Scientists say they have found the strongest sign yet of possible life beyond the solar system

Scientists say they have found the strongest sign yet of possible life beyond the solar system after detecting chemical compounds on a distant exoplanet that on Earth are produced almost exclusively by living organisms.

Using the James Webb Space Telescope, researchers identified traces of dimethyl sulfide (DMS) and dimethyl disulfide (DMDS) in the atmosphere of K2-18b, a planet 124 light-years from Earth and roughly two-and-a-half times the size of our planet. The telescope can analyse the composition of the planet’s atmosphere by studying the light that passes through it from its small red sun.

On Earth, DMS and DMDS are primarily generated by microbial life, such as marine phytoplankton. While scientists caution that unknown chemical processes could produce the molecules, their presence on K2-18b, which lies within its star’s habitable zone, is seen as a potential indicator of life.

Professor Nikku Madhusudhan of Cambridge University’s Institute of Astronomy said: “This is the strongest evidence yet there is possibly life out there. I can realistically say that we can confirm this signal within one to two years. The amount we estimate of this gas in the atmosphere is thousands of times higher than what we have on Earth. So, if the association with life is real, then this planet will be teeming with life.”

The findings have led some researchers to speculate that K2-18b could even be covered with an ocean. Dr David Clements, an astrophysicist at Imperial College London who was not involved in the study, urged caution, noting that “while it does not yet represent a clear detection of Dimethyl Sulfide and Dimethyl Disulfide, it is a step in the right direction.”

Earlier this year, other analyses of Webb data using different statistical models found no strong evidence for DMS or DMDS. Madhusudhan’s team later reanalysed the data and reported being “more confident” that DMS best explains the observations. Meanwhile, Dr Renyu Hu at the California Institute of Technology and colleagues found that while some models including DMS fit the data slightly better, the results did not meet the statistical threshold required for a definitive detection.

The discovery has sparked excitement in the scientific community, highlighting both the potential for life on exoplanets and the challenges of confirming such findings.

France returns skull of beheaded king to Madagascar

0

France on Tuesday returned three colonial-era skulls to Madagascar, including one believed to be that of a Malagasy king decapitated by French troops during a 19th-century massacre.

The skull, believed to belong to King Toera, was handed over in the first restitution of human remains since France passed a law facilitating their return in 2023, along with those of two other members of the Sakalava ethnic group

.

France returns skull of beheaded king to Madagascar after 128 years

French troops beheaded King Toera in 1897, with his skull then taken as a trophy to France.

It was placed in Paris’s national history museum alongside hundreds of other remains from the Indian Ocean island.

“These skulls entered the national collections in circumstances that clearly violated human dignity and in a context of colonial violence,” said French Culture Minister Rachida Dati.

Her Madagascar counterpart, Volamiranty Donna Mara, praised the handover as “an immensely significant gesture” that marked “a new era of cooperation” between the two countries.

“Their absence has been, for more than a century, 128 years, an open wound in the heart of our island,” she said.

A joint scientific committee confirmed the skulls were from the Sakalava people but said it could only “presume” that one belonged to King Toera, Dati said.

Michael Strahan’s New Wife Is Hands Down The Most Beautiful Woman In The World

Rapper Lil Nas X has broken his silence after spending four days in jail for stripping n*de on a busy Los Angeles street and allegedly assaulting police officers.

The 26-year-old star, real name Montero Hill, posted a video on Instagram where he told fans the experience was “terrifying” but assured them he would be fine.

“Your girl is gonna be OK, y’all,” he said in the clip, filmed outdoors while wearing a lime green cardigan. Moments later, his eyes widened as he added, “S. That was fing terrifying! That was a terrifying last four days.”

He ended by repeating, “Your girl’s gonna be all right.”

Lil Nas X was arraigned a day earlier after being hit with four felony charges, including three counts of battery with injury on a peace officer. If convicted, he faces up to five years in state prison.

The Atlanta-born artist was arrested after officers reportedly saw him walking naked down Ventura Avenue in Studio City. TMZ reported that police used a Taser to subdue him after a confrontation.

He was released on $75,000 bail and seen leaving court in a blue prison jumpsuit.

LUNGU FAMILY DENIES BURIAL TALKS WITH GOVERNMENT

LUNGU FAMILY DENIES BURIAL TALKS WITH GOVERNMENT

Spokesperson for the family of former President Edgar Lungu, Makebi Zulu, says there are no ongoing talks with the Zambian government regarding Mr. Lungu’s burial site.

Mr. Zulu explained that the family is instead awaiting the Pretoria High Court’s decision on their application for leave to appeal its ruling ordering the repatriation of Mr. Lungu’s body for a state funeral in Zambia.

He added that the Constitutional Court advised the family to take their direct appeal to the Supreme Court.

This comes after President Hakainde Hichilema announced on Monday, August 25, 2025, that government officials were still engaging with members of the former First Family in South Africa over the matter.

Constitutional Court Refuses ECL Appeal….”don’t appeal to us directly”

Breaking; Constitutional Court Refuses ECL Appeal….”don’t appeal to us directly”

The Constitutional Court of South Africa has ruled;

“Constitutional Court has considered the application for leave to appeal directly to it and has concluded that no case has been made out for a direct appeal. Consequently, leave to appeal must be refused.”

Order:
“Leave to appeal directly to this Court is refused.”

A matter  remains in the Gauteng High Court for leave of appeal, and hearing was adjourned sine die awaiting determination by Constitutional Court.

What Does this Ruling by Constitution Court

It means the Constitutional Court (CC), South Africa’s highest court, has closed a shortcut that the applicant (likely the State) was trying to take. The applicant’s case has been stopped at the first hurdle and must now follow the normal, longer path through the court system, if it can.

Detailed Explanation

1. The “Direct Appeal” They Requested

Normally, a case travels up through the court hierarchy:
1.High Court (the first court to hear a major case)

2.Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) (hears appeals from the High Court)

3.Constitutional Court (the highest court for constitutional matters)

A “direct appeal” (or “leapfrog appeal”) is a request to skip the Supreme Court of Appeal entirely and go straight from the High Court to the Constitutional Court. This is very rare.

2. Why the Court Refused It

The Constitutional Court only allows a direct appeal under exceptional circumstances. The applicant must prove that:
It is in the interests of justice to hear the matter directly.
The case raises a novel and important point of law of general public importance that only the CC can resolve. There is a reasonable prospect of success on the merits of the appeal.

By saying “no case has been made out for a direct appeal,” the CC is declaring:
The applicant failed to convince them that this case is so urgent or unique that it justifies skipping the SCA.
The normal appeals process should be followed.

3.What Happens Next

The High Court’s original decision stands for now.If the applicant lost in the High Court and was trying to appeal that loss directly to the CC, that loss remains in effect.

The applicant’s main option now is to appeal to the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) in Bloemfontein. They must start that process from the beginning.
If they lose at the SCA, they could then try to appeal to the Constitutional Court, but they would have to prove the case involves a constitutional matter.

Update from Secretary to the Cabinet

The Government of the Republic of Zambia has taken note of the Constitutional Court of South Africa’s ruling concerning the burial of the Sixth President, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu. On behalf of the government, we want to thank the court for its timely consideration of the matter.

While the government respects the court’s decision, it remains committed to working with Dr. Lungu’s family to reach an arrangement that takes into consideration their wishes and interests, but taking into account the rights of government.

Our position is unchanged. The late President deserves a dignified funeral in keeping with the stature of his office.

We want to thank citizens for their understanding at this time and avoiding inflammatory comments. Now is the time for all of us to keep the Lungu family in our thoughts and prayers as we mourn the loss of the former President.

SOUTH AFRICA’S TOP COURT REFUSES LUNGU FAMILY DIRECT APPEAL OVER BURIAL DISPUTE

SOUTH AFRICA’S TOP COURT REFUSES LUNGU FAMILY DIRECT APPEAL OVER BURIAL DISPUTE

By Brian Matambo – Lusaka, Zambia

SOUTH AFRICA’S CONSTITUTIONAL COURT has rejected an urgent application by the family of former Zambian President Edgar Chagwa Lungu to appeal directly against a Pretoria High Court order requiring the surrender and repatriation of his remains to Lusaka for a state funeral. The ruling is the latest twist in a legal and political battle that has exposed deep tensions between the Lungu family and President Hakainde Hichilema’s government.

In a decision dated *26 AUGUST 2025*, the CONSTITUTIONAL COURT held that “no case has been made out for a direct appeal,” formally refusing the family’s request to bypass the Supreme Court of Appeal. The order, signed by Acting Registrar Dunisani Mathiba, means the matter will not be heard immediately by South Africa’s highest court.

THE ROOT OF THE DISPUTE
The family of the late president has consistently maintained that they were willing to repatriate his body to Zambia on the condition that President Hichilema would not attend the funeral. They argued that this was in line with Mr. Lungu’s personal wishes, citing his deep estrangement from his successor.

When the Zambian government refused to guarantee that condition, the family announced that the burial would proceed privately in Johannesburg, where Mr. Lungu died. But on the very day of the planned funeral, the government launched urgent proceedings in the Gauteng High Court, demanding that the widow, Esther Lungu, surrender the body for state repatriation. The High Court ruled in favor of the state, setting off the appeal process.

CONSTITUTIONAL COURT DRAWS A LINE
South African law places a high bar on direct access to the Constitutional Court. Appeals are expected to follow the established route from the High Court to the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA), before ultimately reaching the apex court. Direct appeals are granted only in cases that present urgent constitutional questions of public importance and where it is in the interests of justice to bypass the intermediate stage.

By refusing the Lungu family’s application, the court reaffirmed its longstanding position that contested matters involving both factual and constitutional elements should first be ventilated in the SCA.

NEXT STEPS FOR THE FAMILY
The refusal does not end the family’s legal battle. They now have the option of approaching the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein. If successful, the case could later return to the Constitutional Court. For now, however, the High Court’s ruling in favor of repatriation technically stands.

The dispute underscores both the personal grief of a family and the political symbolism attached to the burial of a former head of state. For the Lungu family, the matter centers on dignity, safety, and respect for the late president’s wishes. For the Zambian government, it is about state protocol and national honor.

A DISPUTE THAT RESONATES BEYOND THE COURTROOM
The controversy has resonated far beyond South Africa’s courts. Mr. Lungu, who served as Zambia’s sixth president from 2015 to 2021, remains a polarizing figure. His death and contested funeral arrangements have reignited debates about political rivalry, national unity, and the treatment of former leaders.

As the case advances through South Africa’s appellate system, the question of where and how Edgar Lungu will finally be laid to rest remains unresolved. What began as a private family decision has become a test of law, diplomacy, and political culture in both South Africa and Zambia.

LAWYER SAYS PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S DECISION TO WITHHOLD SON’S ZNS SALARY ILLEGAL

LAWYER SAYS PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S DECISION TO WITHHOLD SON’S ZNS SALARY ILLEGAL

By Nelson Zulu

Lawyer Isaac Simbeye says President Hakainde Hichilema’s statement that his son Lieutenant Habwela Hichilema, who was recently commissioned as a Zambia National Service -ZNS-officer will not receive a salary from the service, is an illegality and political.

Mr. Simbeye tells Phoenix News that the President lacks the legal authority to suspend or withhold pay for a defence force officer outside the procedures set by law, pointing to provisions in the defence act and subsidiary regulations that govern officers’ remuneration.

He explains that section 154 of the defence act prohibits forfeiture or deductions from an officer’s pay unless expressly authorized by the act, other service law or regulations, and that section 155 set out salary rates and conditions for payment such as first schedule annual pay scales for officers by rank and years of service.

Mr. Simbeye says, under the act, commissioned officers at lieutenant and comparable ranks are mandated to specific annual salaries and related allowances, and that any step to deprive an officer of those entitlements must follow the statutory framework and that a unilateral presidential announcement is without legal backing.

But Defence Minister Ambrose Lufuma has argued that an entitlement is not a right and Lieutenant Hichilema not receiving a salary will help fiscal returns to the treasury.

On Sunday, President Hichilema disclosed that his son’s role in ZNS is for discipline purposes, not for financial gain.

KWACHA MP BLAMES PAID INDIVIDUALS FOR CHURCH SERVICE COMMOTION AND REMAINS CONFIDENT OF RE-ADOPTION IN 2026

By Joseph Kaputula

Kwacha Constituency Member of Parliament Charles Mulenga says some unknown elements paid a few individuals to cause commotion during a church service where President Hakainde Hichilema was in attendance.

Mr. Mulenga endured an awkward moment on Sunday when congregants at the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Kwacha East congregation jeered at him during President Hakainde Hichilema’s visit, with some worshippers sarcastically denying that they knew him.

Mr. Mulenga has told Phoenix News that despite the incident, he is confident that the UPND will readopt him for the 2026 general elections, citing his achievements in the constituency, including clinics, market shelters, and classroom blocks, as evidence of his effectiveness.

He believes that it is unfair to conclude that he is unpopular based on one incident, noting that many churches in the constituency recognize him.

UK BASED ZAMBIANS REPORT ZAMBIAN DIPLOMAT TO UK FOREIGN OFFICE

UK BASED ZAMBIANS REPORT ZAMBIAN DIPLOMAT TO UK FOREIGN OFFICE

A group of Zambians has finally reported a diplomat, Mulilo Morgan, to UKs Foreign Office, maybe declared person non-grata

WHO LEAKED Lily Mutamz Tv Passport?

We are gravely concerned by reports implicating Mr. Morgan Mulilo, currently serving as First Secretary at the Zambian High Commission in London, in the leaking of private documents and the harassment of Zambian citizens residing in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Mulilo, a former immigration officer in Mufulira, is alleged to have leaked confidential documents belonging to social blogger, Ms. Lillian Mutambo, to Clayson Hamasaka at State House, in clear violation of diplomatic ethics, privacy rights, and international law. He is also reportedly boasting about compiling a “list of dissidents” in the UK who are critical of President Hakainde Hichilema’s government.

Grave Concerns
1. Breach of Privacy and Data Security
If true, the leaking of Ms. Mutambo’s documents represents a serious abuse of trust. Zambians abroad submit their personal documents to embassies in good faith, expecting the highest level of confidentiality.

2. Political Targeting of Citizens Abroad
The alleged compilation of lists of Zambians critical of the government smacks of surveillance and intimidation. Such conduct is inconsistent with the duties of diplomatic staff and undermines the rights of Zambian citizens to freely express their views.

3. Diplomatic Consequences
If the Zambian High Commission in London is being used as a tool for political victimization, this not only violates the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations but also risks straining Zambia’s bilateral relations with the United Kingdom.

Action Being Taken

We have learned that members of the Zambian community in the UK have begun the process of formally reporting Mr. Mulilo’s actions to the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). These are serious allegations that warrant immediate investigation by both the Zambian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UK government.

Call for Accountability

We demand:
• A full investigation by the Zambian government into the conduct of Mr. Mulilo.
• An immediate review of data protection protocols at Zambian embassies to ensure citizens’ private information is not politicized.
• Assurance from the Zambian government that embassies remain neutral and professional institutions, not instruments of political harassment.

Zambians abroad must feel safe and protected when engaging with their embassies. The leaking of private information and targeting of critics is not only unethical—it is criminal and unacceptable.

UPND HAS  DELIVERED REAL CHANGE- ITEZHI TEZHI MP TWAAMBO MUTINTA

UPND HAS  DELIVERED REAL CHANGE- ITEZHI TEZHI MP TWAAMBO MUTINTA

Itezh Tezhi Member of Parliament, Twaambo Mutinta, has commended the United Party for National Development (UPND) for what he described as transformative efforts in his constituency since the party assumed office.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka, Mr. Mutinta expressed gratitude for the increased attention and resources being directed toward rural development, contrasting it with what he called years of neglect under previous administrations.

He highlighted the impact of the enhanced Constituency Development Fund (CDF), noting that it has facilitated the construction of new schools and is being managed effectively. According to Mr. Mutinta, over 500 teachers have been recruited, contributing to a noticeable improvement in literacy levels across the area.

The lawmaker also pointed to empowerment programs targeting women and youth, revealing that more than 200 individuals have benefited through CDF initiatives.

He added that women are now being awarded contracts to participate in government infrastructure projects, a move he said promotes inclusivity and economic independence.

Among the major infrastructure developments, Mr. Mutinta cited the construction of a hospital and the establishment of 29 clinics, which he said have significantly boosted access to healthcare services.

He further disclosed that 123 boreholes have been drilled to improve water supply, and efforts to expand electricity connectivity are gradually taking shape.

Mr. Mutinta concluded by reaffirming his support for the UPND’s development agenda, emphasizing that the visible progress in Itezh Tezhi is a testament to the government’s commitment to uplifting rural communities.

BOOED KWACHA MP CHARLES MULENGA SHOULD JUST HAVE SHUT UP

BOOED KWACHA MP CHARLES MULENGA SHOULD JUST HAVE SHUT UP

It is now even more embarrassing that Charles Mulenga, apparently unpopular member of parliament, booed by some members of a church congregation thinks the act was stage managed.

With his kind of thinking, it is no wonder he got that reaction during a church service attended by Presisent Hakainde Hichilema in the constituency recently.

Here is why his claim is woeful, hare-brained. That episode of booing could only have been stage-managed if Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo was part of the scheme. For it was he who thought of the idea of introducing other leaders who accompanied President Hichilema.

The question is why would Matambo cooked up such a thing to embarrassing an MP, who was, is and probably will remain anonymous after 2021, who owes his election to the President and the UPND, than his own personality or achievements?

After Mulenga’s lame claim that the booing was stage-managed, the leadership of the UPND must have taken note and are now more convinced they should find a replacement to contest for that seat in 2021.

Silence could have won MP Mulenga some sympathy. His puny fight-back has just exposed him to more attention and greater scrutiny.

Bye bye!

SIWILA DEMANDS PUBLIC APOLOGY FROM KWACHA MP AFTER EMBARRASSING REJECTION INCIDENT

SIWILA DEMANDS PUBLIC APOLOGY FROM KWACHA MP AFTER EMBARRASSING REJECTION INCIDENT

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

Former civic leader Manase Siwila has called on Kwacha Constituency Member of Parliament to issue a public apology and reconcile with his constituents following a recent incident that he described as deeply embarrassing.

The MP was reportedly rejected by members of his community during a public event attended by Republican President Hakainde Hichilema, a moment Mr. Siwila said exposed the growing disconnect between elected officials and the people they serve.

According to Mr. Siwila, the rejection was not merely symbolic but a reflection of the community’s frustration over the lack of tangible development and poor engagement from their representative.

He emphasized that such incidents should serve as a wake-up call for all political stakeholders to return to their constituencies and prioritize service delivery, warning that continued neglect could lead to further public
humiliation.

PF ROUSES ITS PROVINCIAL STRUCTURES, SETS EARLY CONFERENCE DATE TO BE READY FOR 2026 POLLS

PF ROUSES ITS PROVINCIAL STRUCTURES, SETS EARLY CONFERENCE DATE TO BE READY FOR 2026 POLLS

Despite still mourning late President Edgar Lungu, the main opposition Patriotic Front (PF) has set a timetable for elections in all its structures, leading up to the crucial conference to elect its new leader.

The PF has also delivered a scathing review of the state of the nation after fours years of the United Party for National Development (UPND) in power with President Hakainde Hichilema.

PF Secretary General Raphael Nakachinda has told a press briefing that a circular has already been sent for elections in all its sections to begin, with each structure instructed to beef up their strength from the current 24, to 72 members.

Following the expediting of this process in the structures countrywide, the Secretary General will attend to elections of provincial executives, in order to renew the mandates of these structures.

These activities will pave way for the conference that will elections a new Central Committee, and thr new President of the party.

He dispelled news that the conference would be held in April, saying the current Central Committee is actually set to meet in September, and the collective wisdom of the highest policy making organ will set the date for the conference shortly after that.

Nakachinda appealed to other opposition parties not to aid the UPND government in destroying the PF, by not involving themselves in its internal affairs.

“The destruction of the PF will not benefit anyone in opposition. All the opposition formation will benefit from the survival of the PF ” Nakachinda said.

Speaking earlier, leader of PF leader of the opposition in parliament, whom the Speaker of the National Assembly has refused to recognise, Miles Sampa delivered a critical review of the UPND four years in government.

He said the state of the nation, economically, was such that all  key aspects of the cost of living have worsened, as President Hichilema has failed to fulfil specific benefits he promised in 2021.

He said fuel prices are currently still double what they were when the PF left power, and now the country is experiencing a shortage of diesel despite the hype that Open Access System on utilisation of Tazama pipeline would bring both stability of supply and competitive and lower pricing of the commodity.

Sampa also reminded the nation that the promise by Hichilema to bring mealie meal prices down to K50 per 25 kilogramme bag have not materialised, despite government intervention in the market through Zambia National Service (ZNS).

“Even the fact of bumper harvest of maize has failed to bring down the prices of the staple because the government was more interested in exporting maize and mealie meal to neighbouring countries,” Sampa said.

Load shedding was another flaring failure of the UPND four years. Even under drought conditions, the PF government was able to ensure load shedding did not go beyond eight hours daily. But under the UPND, load shedding schedules now are giving residential customers only five hours of electricity daily.

“In fact I came across a saying in one district in Eastern Province that the one hour of actual electricity supply they are getting, after midnight daily is called view once, because it just flashes once and is gone.”

Sampa also highlighted rampant abuse of state institutions by the UPND government, citing parliament,  the judiciary and the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), and others.

He noted the issue of interference by the government, through parliament, in the choice of leader of the opposition by the PF, which has been ignored.

The PF never interfered with UPND choice of its leaders while in opposition in parliament. Even the cases involving PF, which are in courts, and need only a ruling, are stuck. The ECZ is also preventing the PF from participating in by-elections, thus denying citizens their right to choose representatives.

He said political parties in Zambia are recognised as constitutional institutions, therefore, cooperating partners must take keen interest in the breaches of hindering the free participation of the PF in the democratic process by ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis.

Before ending his address, Sampa joked that events of the past week had proved that even public complaints on this issue are indeed “the voice of the people, being the voice of God”.

He said there must be some explanation for what has happened to one Zaloumis.

ISSUING FAKE NATIONAL IDS A SERIOUS CONSTITUTIONAL BREACH- SINKAMBA

This reported scandal of UPND-Led government issuing fake ID in Northern Zambia is a very serious governance and constitutional breach.

No citizen deserves to be issued with a fake official document.

No citizen deserves to be defranchised or denied access to services through a fake scheme of government.

And finaly, no person deserves to run affairs of the country by ascending to power through fake schemes.

Mulemutika?

Why should UPND-led government issue fake official documents in northern part of Zambia? Why not Southwestern Zambia?

Why should this happen in the election year?

What other fake official documents are being issued by this government, and what is the motivation?

What impact will these fake documents have on the outcome of elections in 2026?

As a member of the Tonse Grand Alliance, we  will urgently call for a united opposition front joint meeting to discuss this serious scandalous constitutional breach, so that collectively, we map out immediate remedial action.

There is urgent need to call upon cooperating partners supporting our country’s governance programmes to urgentlt provide funds to audit all NRCs and voters cards that have been issued by the UPND-led government since 2021.

In view of this scandal, there is need to put in place remedial measures to verify the authenticity of all voters cards that ECZ plans to issue starting next month.

Additionally, there is need for the opposition to denand verify the authenticity of the equipment ECZ intends to procure for verification of the voters cards and NRCs.

Addressing the Nigerian Bar Association’s Annual General Conference, Malema said colonial-era borders continue to divide Africans and weaken the continent’s strength.

He demanded a borderless Africa, insisting that unity would empower the continent to rival global powers and break free from dependence on international lenders.

Malema also denounced xenophobia, describing it as a betrayal of African solidarity, and praised Nigeria’s role in supporting South Africa’s liberation struggle.

His bold call for a unified, borderless Africa has drawn both support and criticism, sparking debate across the continent.

PF LEADERSHIP ADVISED TO INFORM FORMER FIRST LADY ESTHER LUNGU ON THE NEED TO ELECT NEW PRESIDENT WITHOUT WAITING FOR EDGAR  LUNGU BURIAL

PF LEADERSHIP ADVISED TO INFORM FORMER FIRST LADY ESTHER LUNGU ON THE NEED TO ELECT NEW PRESIDENT WITHOUT WAITING FOR ECL BURIAL

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

Patriotic Front (PF) member Chanoda Ngwira has called on acting party president Given Lubinda and secretary general Raphael Nakachinda to inform former first lady Esther Lungu that the party intends to hold a convention to elect its leader without waiting for the burial of late former president Edgar Lungu.

Mr. Ngwira warned that delaying the election of a new leader until the burial, whose date remains uncertain due to ongoing legal matters in court, risks further weakening the PF.

Speaking in an interview with Sun FM TV News, Mr. Ngwira said the continued wait will be a window of disorganization not only within the PF but also in the Tonse Alliance.

He further advised Mr. Lubinda to refrain from issuing statements that do not contribute to unity, stressing the importance of distinguishing a party from an alliance.

Mr. Ngwira maintained that within an alliance, no law mandates a partner to resign from their party and join another in order to become president.

The Rejection  was stage managed by my political enemies within the ruling party and the opposition- Kwacha MP Charles Mulenga

KWACHA Member of Parliament Charles Mulenga has dismissed the jeering he faced during President Hakainde Hichilema’s church visit in Kitwe, claiming the incident was stage-managed by political rivals within and outside the United Party for National Development (UPND).

Mr Mulenga endured an awkward moment on Sunday in full view of the head of state when congregants at the United Church of Zambia Kwacha East congregation sarcastically denied knowing him as he was introduced during the service.

“That whole process was stage managed, it was well planned and calculated by my enemies,” Mr Mulenga has revealed, “you know in every political party, especially the positions that we hold, we have enemies. Almost in every constituency you go, we are being fought left, right and centre. Kwacha is not an exception,”

He said when he appeared on SUNFM that both ruling party officials seeking his seat and members of the opposition were behind the disruption.

“Already investigations have been carried out and it has been proved beyond reasonable doubt that we had some elements that were paid off and they quickly rushed to the church as early as 07:00 hours, taking seats that were made for real church members,” he said. “In a nutshell, it all goes to show that it was pre-arranged, some people were paid to go and behave in the manner that they behaved.”

Mr Mulenga defended his record, pointing to development projects in his constituency and questioning the logic of those who shouted that they did not know him.

“From the same people that were saying we don’t know him, those are the same people who voted for me to be where I am as an MP,” he argued. “How do they say they don’t know me then who voted for me?”

The Kwacha MP added that he is happy that President Hichilema cannot be swayed by a stage-managed incident.

“I am happy that we have a head of state who is a very intelligent man and I am sure he saw between the lines what was there…not that I was rejected, it was something that was pre-managed,” he said.

Declaring confidence about his political future, Mr Mulenga said he is ready to re-contest the seat in 2026 insisting, that he has not lost popularity.

“I am popular, and I will be popular in 2026. I was popular even before I was elected,” he said.

GOVERNMENT ENGAGING THE LUNGU FAMILY OVER BURIAL OF THE FORMER PRESIDENT

GOVERNMENT ENGAGING THE LUNGU FAMILY OVER BURIAL OF THE FORMER PRESIDENT

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says government is engaging the family of former President EDGAR LUNGU regarding the burial of the sixth president.

President HICHILEMA says a government team is in South Africa holding discussions with the family.

Speaking when he met Zimbabwean Second Vice President KEMBO MOHADI at State House this afternoon, President HICHILEMA said Zambia is open to any support from Zimbabwe that may help bring the matter to closure.

The President said the Zambian people want their former President to be laid to rest in his home country, alongside the other five Presidents.

And, President HICHILEMA has called for the speedy conclusion of discussions to elevate bilateral relations between Zambia and Zimbabwe from the Joint Permanent Commission -JPC- to a Bi-National Commission -BNC-.

He said the elevation will allow better management of common assets such as the Kariba  Dam and help both countries implement joint projects to improve their economies for the benefit of their citizens.

President HICHILEMA further called for urgent development of Clean Coal Power Stations to respond to the energy deficit, create jobs, and open up business opportunities that will uplift livelihoods.

And, Colonel MOHADI, retired who is in Zambia to inspect sites where Zimbabwean liberation heroes are buried, said the elevation of relations to a BNC will accelerate the implementation of joint projects.

He said this will also promote Value addition, feeding into the African Union Agenda  and the African Continental Free Trade Area -AfCFTA.

And, Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister MULAMBO HAIMBE said technical teams from the two countries are finalising work towards the establishment of the BNC, which will soon transition into the holding of a full commission meeting.

UCZ BISHOPS AND REVERENDS MUST BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES- Prof Proud Moonga

UCZ BISHOPS AND REVERENDS MUST BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES

By Prof Proud Moonga, PhD, Lecturer, University of Michigan, United States of America

The Church in Zambia was once a fearless moral compass, boldly condemning injustice, corruption, and oppression. But today, as the country reels from unprecedented suffering, the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) leadership has shamefully abandoned this sacred responsibility.

Zambia is in crisis. Poverty and unemployment are skyrocketing, inflation is devouring families’ meager earnings, and basic services like healthcare and education are crumbling. Corruption and maladministration have become the norm, bleeding the nation dry while the voices of ordinary citizens are silenced by an ever-shrinking democratic space. The rule of law is eroding, political intimidation is rampant, and ethnic divisions threaten to tear communities apart. To make matters worse, the country is plagued by crippling loadshedding that disrupts daily life, businesses, and essential services, deepening the economic misery for millions.

In this dark moment, when the Church should roar against injustice and stand shoulder to shoulder with the suffering, UCZ bishops and reverends have chosen silence and worse, complicity. On August 25, 2025, President Hakainde Hichilema donated K1.3 million to UCZ. That’s nearly 25 times his own monthly salary of K53,000. The money was split between Kwacha East UCZ, Mindolo UCZ, and the church choir. While millions of Zambians go hungry, struggle with power outages, and grapple with deteriorating public services, the UCZ leadership accepted this donation without hesitation, raising serious questions about whose side they are really on.

Contrast this with the Catholic Diocese of Mansa in Luapula Province, which boldly rejected a K800,000 donation from the President and other politicians, refusing to compromise their moral integrity. Across the border, the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi in Kenya also turned down financial gifts from President William Ruto, making it clear that the Church must remain a neutral guardian of justice, not a political pawn.

Remember your sacred legacy and the crucial role the Church played in Zambia’s democratic transformations, in 1991, 2011, and 2021. Each of these milestones was shaped by the Church’s fearless stand against oppression and injustice. The prophetic voice of the Church inspired hope, empowered citizens, and demanded accountability from those in power.

Today, as Zambia faces its darkest hour, the Church’s voice must rise again with the same courage and conviction. Your members and the entire nation need leaders who will stand boldly with the people, not silence themselves in the face of corruption and suffering.

UCZ bishops and reverends: you must ask yourselves, are you shepherds of your flock, or puppets of political power? Your congregants are drowning in poverty, betrayed by bad governance, and desperate for leadership that speaks truth. Instead, you have chosen to line your pockets and stay silent.

Zambia’s democracy is gasping for breath. Its people cry out for justice, dignity, and hope. The Church’s prophetic voice is not just needed, it is urgent. If the UCZ leadership continues down this path of silence and complicity, they risk becoming irrelevant, and worse, accomplices in the nation’s decline.

According to Nakachinda, the electoral process will begin at the grassroots level, starting with sections, branches, wards, constituencies, and districts before moving up to provincial structures.

Nakachinda described the exercise as a critical step in strengthening the democratic credentials of the Patriotic Front, which he referred to as “the people’s and mighty party.”

ERNEST MWANSA CALLS FOR INSTITUTIONAL POLITICS AND OPPOSITION UNITY

EMV TONIGHT: ERNEST MWANSA CALLS FOR INSTITUTIONAL POLITICS AND OPPOSITION UNITY

On Monday evening’s edition of Emmanuel Mwamba Verified, Ambassador Emmanuel Mwamba hosted constitutional lawyer and former Chifunabuli MP, Hon. Ernest Mwansa, now interim leader of the Zambia We Want (ZWW) party. The discussion probed the role of the opposition ahead of Zambia’s 2026 elections, the credibility of national institutions, and the urgent need to build politics around ideas rather than personalities.

FROM MOVEMENT TO PARTY
Mwansa traced ZWW’s origins from civil society activism into a registered political party. Its central philosophy, he said, is institutional politics: building parties around manifestos, systems, and teamwork rather than the cult of a single leader. “Every government since the MMD has personalized politics. We want to return to the idea that it is the manifesto—not an individual—that must define a party,” Mwansa said.

He outlined ZWW’s proposals for a devolved system of government, stronger accountability mechanisms, and a culture of open internal criticism within political organizations. “A person who criticizes you is a friend. An enemy will never criticize you,” Mwansa noted, emphasizing that the party’s leadership structure is deliberately collective.

ECONOMIC FAULT LINES
Turning to economic issues, Mwansa lamented Zambia’s continued export of raw copper, the neglect of value addition, and the marginalization of small-scale miners in favor of foreign corporations. Agriculture, he argued, remains dangerously mono-crop, while energy insecurity cripples industry despite the country’s abundant potential.

“This is the only country where even making bricks must be in foreign hands. We can’t even produce a toothpick,” Mwansa charged. He called for investment in silos, renewable and nuclear energy, and industrial policy that prioritizes Zambian ownership and skills.

DEMOCRATIC BACKSLIDING AND THE ECZ
Both Mwansa and Mwamba raised sharp concerns about the Electoral Commission of Zambia’s independence. Listeners phoned in to accuse the ECZ of partisanship and exclusionary practices, citing blocked PF candidates, questionable voter ID processes, and the perception that the chairperson is aligned to the ruling UPND.

“If people don’t trust the process before elections happen, how will they trust the outcome?” Mwansa warned. He suggested that, if independence cannot be guaranteed, the ECZ leadership should consider resigning. Mwamba added that democracy itself is at risk if institutions tilt toward one side.

CALLS FOR UNITY AND A SECOND INDEPENDENCE
Callers pressed Mwansa on whether opposition parties can unite behind a single leader and a common platform. He admitted that “at the top we may have difficulties,” but urged citizens to build unity from the grassroots up, just as Zambians did in 1991.

In closing, Mwansa argued that Zambia is at a crossroads, what one caller described as “a second independence.” The future president, he suggested, must embody the best traits of past leaders: Kaunda’s patriotism, Chiluba’s communication skills, Mwanawasa’s accountability, Banda’s humility, Sata’s delivery, and Lungu’s groundedness.

“This country needs a revolutionary approach to development,” Mwansa said. “Politics must not be about me. It must be about service to the nation.”

A Closer Look at Zambia’s Economy: Separating Pledges from Progress

3

A Closer Look at Zambia’s Economy: Separating Pledges from Progress

While State House highlights a narrative of strong economic growth and unprecedented success under the UPND leadership, a deeper analysis of the available economic data and on-the-ground realities reveals a more nuanced and challenging picture. The government’s achievements, though notable in some areas, have yet to translate into tangible relief for many Zambians facing a persistent cost of living crisis and other economic pressures. The celebratory tone of the official statement often overlooks significant hurdles that remain.

Debt Restructuring: The Start, Not the Finish Line.
The landmark debt restructuring agreement is a crucial first step in restoring Zambia’s economic credibility. It provides much-needed fiscal space by lowering the immediate debt burden, which is a significant achievement. This space is essential for the government to redirect funds toward critical sectors. However, it is a fallacy to present this agreement as an automatic catalyst for widespread prosperity. The deal itself does not create jobs or reduce the price of food; it simply gives the government the tools to do so. The true test lies in the effective and transparent use of these resources.

  • Lingering Debt Challenges: Despite the progress with official creditors and Eurobond holders, Zambia’s debt situation is far from resolved. The country still faces the task of finalizing agreements with all its commercial creditors. Furthermore, the overall debt stock remains substantial, and a low credit rating continues to signal a high-risk environment for potential investors. The restructuring process, while successful so far, has been prolonged and complex, highlighting the fragility of the economic recovery.
  • The Squeeze of High Inflation: The positive narrative around economic growth stands in stark contrast to the daily struggles of ordinary citizens. The Kwacha has experienced a significant depreciation against major currencies, contributing to an unrelenting rise in the cost of living. High inflation has eroded the purchasing power of households, making it increasingly difficult for families to afford essential goods like food, fuel, and electricity. Economic growth figures, while important, are abstract to a family that cannot afford the basic necessities.

Investment Pledges: A Tale of Two Numbers
The announcement of a staggering $86 billion in investment pledges is undoubtedly a bold statement of confidence in Zambia. However, it is critical to differentiate between a promise and its fulfillment. The government’s own figures reveal that only about $12 billion of these pledges have been realized. This significant gap is a critical indicator that pledges do not necessarily equate to actual, on-the-ground investment.

  • Translating Promises into Action: The disparity between pledged and realized investment raises questions about the government’s ability to create a business environment that encourages investors to follow through. While the debt restructuring deal has improved investor sentiment, other factors, such as a volatile currency, high operational costs, and bureaucratic red tape, may still be deterring capital from flowing into the country. Genuine, sustainable economic growth is driven by realized investment that creates jobs, not by impressive but unfulfilled promises.

Challenging the “Historic Maize Harvest” Claim.
The claim that Zambia has achieved its “largest maize harvest in history” is a strong assertion that is not supported by recent agricultural data. The 2023/2024 agricultural season was ravaged by a historic and devastating drought linked to the El Niño weather pattern. The drought was so severe that the government declared it a national disaster, a move that directly contradicts any claim of a record harvest.

  • The Reality of the Harvest: Official data from organizations like the Zambia Statistics Agency and the Ministry of Agriculture show a dramatic decrease in maize production for the 2023/2024 season. The poor harvest has created serious concerns about national food security, leading to the need for large-scale importation and humanitarian aid. The claim of a historic harvest not only misrepresents the facts but also downplays the severe challenges facing millions of farmers and citizens struggling with food shortages.

While the UPND government has made commendable progress in areas like debt management and has worked to restore international confidence, its public pronouncements on economic growth and agricultural output must be viewed with a critical eye. The true measure of success is not in the size of investment pledges or optimistic projections, but in the tangible improvements to the lives of Zambians. The persistent high cost of living, the gap between pledged and realized investment, and the undeniable impact of a severe drought on food security paint a picture that is far more complex and challenging than the one presented by State House. Acknowledging these realities is crucial for effective policymaking and for building a resilient economy that benefits all citizens, not just a select few.

Njobvu Leads Humanitarian Outreach in Chunga Compound

Njobvu Leads Humanitarian Outreach in Chunga Compound

Democratic Union (DU) president Ackim Antony Njobvu has called for unity and compassion during Zambia’s economic hardships, after leading a humanitarian outreach in Chunga Compound under the banner of the KIM Community Friends Foundation.

Speaking during the donation, Njobvu emphasized that the initiative was not about politics but about humanity. “We need to spread love, especially during these hard economic times. This is not about politics, but it is about humanity,” he said.

The foundation, together with its partners, donated mealie-meal, cooking essentials, and other household items to women under the leadership of Pastor Barbara Matamba, who is spearheading a strategic mission in the community.

“We shared the little we could with the women, and we are grateful to our friends who freely gave us these items, which we also distributed freely to our friends in Chunga,” Njobvu explained.

He stressed that the goal of the foundation is to touch lives positively, regardless of political affiliation or social background. “As a foundation, we remain committed to helping one another in a way that impacts people positively,” he said.

Njobvu further described the KIM Community Friends Foundation as a passionate and dedicated group rooted in collaboration and compassion. “Founded on the principles of collaboration and compassion, we aim to empower individuals, strengthen connections, and create lasting positive change,” he noted.

Community members expressed gratitude for the gesture, saying the donations had brought relief to families struggling under the weight of high living costs. Pastor Matamba praised the foundation’s effort, saying it demonstrated true Christian values of love and giving.

Observers note that while Njobvu is a political figure, his involvement in humanitarian activities reflects a growing trend among leaders who are stepping beyond politics to address the immediate needs of vulnerable communities.

As the country continues to grapple with rising food prices and economic challenges, the DU leader’s message of compassion resonates strongly, placing emphasis on unity and shared responsibility in overcoming hardships.

HAMAUNDU DEFENDS TRANSPARENCY OF ZNS RECRUITMENT AMID MPS’ COMPLAINTS

HAMAUNDU DEFENDS TRANSPARENCY OF ZNS RECRUITMENT AMID MPS’ COMPLAINTS

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

The Ministry of Defense has dismissed as unhealthy and unfortunate allegations that the 2025 Zambia National Service (ZNS) recruitment was not transparent, following complaints from some Members of Parliament that their constituencies were excluded.

Speaking to Sun FM TV News, Ministry of Defense Permanent Secretary Mambo Hamaundu explained that the recruitment process was inclusive and followed a clear structure that began with Ward Development Committees and Constituency Development Fund (CDF) teams.

He added that names were submitted to district administrations, then forwarded to provincial offices before reaching the Ministry of Defense.

Mr. Hamaundu stressed that all constituencies were equally represented in the recruitment, which targeted 1,092 individuals nationwide, with each constituency allocated 7 slots — 4 males and 3 females.

The Permanent Secretary described suggestions that some constituencies had only two candidates selected as mischievous, urging aggrieved MPs to engage the ministry directly rather than resorting to social media.

His comment comes after Matero Member of Parliament Miles Sampa described the ZNS recruitment list as a joke, unfair, segregative, and an act of corruption.

BANK OF ZAMBIA UNVEILS NEW SECURITY FEATURES TO PROTECT THE KWACHA

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

The Bank of Zambia has unveiled a series of enhancements to the security features of the Zambian currency, responding to growing concerns over the vulnerability of existing banknotes to counterfeiting.

In a public notice issued, the central bank announced that the new banknotes will incorporate state-of-the-art innovations designed to strengthen the integrity of the Kwacha and restore public confidence in the national currency.

BOZ assistant director of communications, Besnat Mwanza, explained that the upgraded notes feature refreshed designs embedded with advanced security elements aimed at deterring counterfeiters that have increasingly adopted sophisticated techniques.

She emphasized that the move was both timely and necessary to stay ahead of emerging threats to the financial system.

To support public awareness, the bank has launched a mobile application called Zambian Banknotes, which provides users with detailed information on how to identify the new security features. The app is part of a broader effort to empower citizens to verify the authenticity of their currency and reduce the circulation of fake notes.

Ms. Mwanza urged the public to remain vigilant by routinely checking for security markers on their banknotes and to ignore misinformation that could erode trust in the Kwacha.

She reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of currency security and protecting the integrity of Zambia’s financial
system.

Experts alarmed media ‘ill-equipped’ to withstand Trump’s new threats

As President Donald Trump late on Sunday lashed out against the American media and threatened to pull broadcasting licenses from networks for their alleged “biased” coverage of him, media experts said the danger to the news media lies partially in corporate outlets’ potential capitulation to the Trump administration.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, the president railed against NBC and ABC, which he called “two of the absolute worst and most biased networks anywhere in the world.”

He then said the networks should “lose their licenses for their unfair coverage of Republicans and/or conservatives, but at a minimum, they should pay up BIG for having the privilege of using the most valuable airwaves anywhere at anytime!!!”

The president concluded his angry rant by declaring that “crooked ‘journalism’ should not be rewarded, it should be terminated!!!”

Trump did not point to any specifics regarding his claim that the networks’ coverage of him is unfair, but asserted that they “give [him] 97% bad stories.”

This is not the first time that Trump has called on the Federal Communications Commission to strip broadcasters’ licenses for producing news he doesn’t like, although so far, no network has had its license revoked by the Federal Communications Commission.

Even so, some experts were alarmed at Trump’s latest attacks, which they feared could lead to more capitulation from major media corporations similar to the $16 million settlement that CBS parent company Paramount agreed to earlier this summer, which stemmed from what experts called a meritless lawsuits over a “60 Minutes” interview with 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

Victor Pickard, professor of media policy and political economy at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School for Communication, described the president’s angry rants as “yet more worrying signs that Trump knows no limits in exerting dictatorial power over our news media.”

“The commercial news media, which helped elevate Trump to power, have proven repeatedly that they are ill-equipped to withstand such pressures since they typically privilege their profit motives over democratic needs,” he said. “Some individual journalists have shown much courage despite Trump’s attacks, but the corporate media institutions themselves too often capitulate.”

Tim Karr, senior director of strategy and communications at Free Press, echoed Pickard’s point about the media being responsible for the president’s political rise, and he singled out NBC’s decision to air Trump’s reality TV show, “The Apprentice,” which he said gave Americans the false impression that he was a “successful and decisive businessman.”

He also expressed concerns that broadcasters would offer the president more concessions in an attempt to avoid retaliation.

“What should be more worrying to anyone who appreciates a free press is the degrees to which these massive media conglomerates are capitulating before the president,” he said. “If we’ve learned anything about the media from the past eight months, it’s that massive media companies are far too beholden to the political elite to speak truth to power.”

He then accused the major networks of cowering before Trump despite having the First Amendment clearly on their side.

“NBC and ABC are protected under the First Amendment from the sort of government meddling proposed here by Trump—and enacted by his obsequious FCC chairman, Brendan Carr,” he said. “The problem is that big media conglomerates like these two would rather cave to the president than stand up for their constitutional rights.”

ANC veteran Naledi Pandor warns of South Africa’s deepening crises

ANC veteran Naledi Pandor warns of South Africa’s deepening crises

African National Congress (ANC) veteran and former cabinet minister Dr. Naledi Pandor has sounded the alarm over South Africa’s escalating national and geopolitical challenges.

Speaking at a recent public lecture, Pandor described the country as confronting its “most testing national and geopolitical stresses,” citing both domestic policy struggles and international pressures.

Pandor emphasized the need for strong, principled leadership within the ANC to navigate the country through these turbulent times. She highlighted issues such as corruption and declining public trust as key factors undermining governance and called for a recommitment to the party’s founding values.

Despite acknowledging progress in areas like education, science, and trade, Pandor warned that South Africa’s future depends on urgent reforms and national unity. Her remarks come amid growing public concern over the country’s political and economic trajectory.

“I am not a schoolboy”, Cele dismisses questions over calls to Cat Matlala

“I am not a schoolboy”, Cele dismisses questions over calls to Cat Matlala

Former Police Minister Bheki Cele has come under fresh scrutiny after News24 revealed he made ten unanswered calls to tender tycoon Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala just days before the businessman’s dramatic arrest.

According to the report, all the calls were either rejected or ignored. When pressed for clarity on why he had tried so persistently to reach Matlala, Cele brushed off the question with a curt response, “I am not a schoolboy.” He refused to elaborate further.

Matlala, a well-connected businessman, is facing multiple corruption and fraud charges linked to multimillion-rand police tenders. His company had controversially secured a R360 million SAPS health services contract, which was later cancelled after investigators flagged serious irregularities.

As News24’s 9 Lives investigation revealed earlier this year, Cele had previously stayed at Matlala’s luxury penthouse in Pretoria in the weeks leading up to the tender award an arrangement never officially declared through state channels.

Cele has consistently denied being close to Matlala, insisting they are not friends and that their encounters were coincidental. But the unanswered calls, combined with his cryptic dismissal of legitimate questions, have only deepened public suspicion.

Analysts suggest the attempts to reach Matlala in the days before his arrest could point to political ties behind the scenes, while others argue Cele’s silence is a strategic move to avoid legal or reputational damage.

The revelations place further pressure on Cele and other senior figures, including his successor Senzo Mchunu, who are both expected to appear before the ANC Integrity Commission over allegations of interference in police matters.

Malema Calls for United Africa, Rejects Trump’s Influence

South African opposition leader Julius Malema has urged African nations to unite and resist external influences, particularly from US President Donald Trump, whom he accused of undermining the continent’s sovereignty.

Speaking at the Nigerian Bar Association’s annual conference in Enugu on 24 August, Malema addressed legal practitioners, policymakers, judges, academics, and international guests. He cautioned against bowing to foreign pressures, stating: “We must refuse to be subjects of Trump.” He added: “We must stand together as the world changes and show them that Africa is one and that Africa is equal to all nations, to China, to Russia, to America.”

Malema criticised Trump’s attempts to influence African policies, highlighting Washington’s use of trade tariffs to interfere in South Africa’s race laws and foreign policy. He described such actions as attacks on African sovereignty, emphasising the need for the continent to assert its independence.

Advocating for greater unity, Malema called for a “borderless Africa” with shared institutions. “We demand one Africa, we demand a borderless Africa, we demand an Africa with one president, with one currency, with one military command, with one parliament because we know the currency of Africa will be much more stronger than the American currency,” he said. He argued that a divided continent would continue to lose out, but a united Africa could harness its resource wealth for self-reliance, including processing its own minerals and advancing economic integration through mechanisms like the African Continental Free Trade Area.

In a related address at the same conference, Malema accused global legal institutions of Western bias, disadvantaging the global south. He specifically criticised the International Court of Justice for its slow handling of South Africa’s genocide case against Israel. “International law is swift and ruthless when prosecuting leaders of the global south and yet hesitant and cautious when dealing with crimes committed by Western powers and their allies. This is hypocrisy we must name without fear,” he stated.

Malema urged African legal organisations to reject double standards in international law and to establish their own courts and tribunals. “If the so-called international community is unwilling to deliver justice in real time, then Africa must advance its own court, its own tribunals, its own instruments of solidarity and protection,” he added.

The conference, hosted by the largest professional body of lawyers in Africa with over 120,000 members, serves as a key platform for discussing legal and policy issues. Prior to his speech, Malema paid a courtesy visit to Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah. No specific details on audience reactions were reported.

Malema, has long championed pan-Africanism and economic transformation, often clashing with Western influences in his rhetoric.
