ABOUT THE USA TRAVEL BAN FOR ORDINALLY ZAMBIA
…..Avoidable Consequences of grande corruption under the UPND government.

August 6th, 2025

The moment I saw the USA Ambassador to Zambia literally cry over the theft or abuse of the USA  funds at the Ministry of Health , I knew ati kalepuka. It was going to be wild for us Zambians thereon.

They don’t take kindly to public funds corruption and worse off when it’s funds from their own tax payers. A few months later, boom. Come 29th August Zambians will be about banned from entering the USA unless they pay $15,000 as collateral for the trip . The truth is that nearly 99.99% of Zambians can not afford to have that kind of money to deposit with the USA embassy.

Ironic that the only other Country that has received a similar ban is Malawi who are going to the polls next 2 months. In Zambia it will be exactly a year later. A small coincidence here but tells a lot.

Careless government Corruption yatuletelela. When we form government after the 2026 elections, we shall diplomatically engage and convince the USA to reverse this unprecedented restriction on the majority ordinary Zambians.

CLERGY CALL FOR CALM AHEAD OF COURT VERDICT ON LUNGU’S BURIAL

CLERGY CALL FOR CALM AHEAD OF COURT VERDICT ON LUNGU’S BURIAL

Some members of the clergy in Livingstone District have appealed to the Government and the family of the late former Republican President Edgar Lungu to accept the verdict expected to be delivered by the South African courts this week.

Presiding Bishop of the International Coalition of Fellowship (ICOF) Zambia, Crever Nyambe, emphasized the importance of both parties honoring the ruling so that the former Head of State may be laid to rest with dignity.

In a separate interview, Church of God Presiding Pastor Charles Musonda stated that accepting the court’s decision would bring healing to the family, the Government, and the nation as a whole.

Reverend Musonda also urged politicians to respect the verdict and refrain from making statements that could fuel confusion surrounding the burial of the late President.

August 5 marked exactly two months since the passing of President Edgar Lungu, Zambia’s sixth Head of State, who died in South Africa.

NFF SLAMS U.S. VISA BOND POLICY AS “NE0-C0L0NIAL ARR0GANCE”

NFF SLAMS U.S. VISA BOND POLICY AS “NE0-C0L0NIAL ARR0GANCE”

…..this policy treats African citizens not as partners, but as suspects

Lusaka, Zambia – August 6, 2025 (SMART EAGLES)

The National Freedom Front (NFF) has sharply criticized the United States government over its recent decision to impose pun\tive visa bond requirements on Zambian and Malawian citizens applying for visitor visas, calling the move discrim.inat0ry and emblematic of neo-c0l0nial attitudes.

Under the new policy, Zambian and Malawian applicants could be required to pay bonds of up to $15,000 as a condition for entry into the United States.

NFF Secretary General Harry Simuntala has condemned the policy as a “blatant display of ne0-c0l0nial arr0gance” and an “ins.ult to the dignity” of the Zambian people and the broader African continent.

“This policy treats African citizens not as partners, but as suspects,” Mr Simuntala stated, adding that the move undermines the principles of mutual respect and cooperation that the U.S. claims to uphold.

The NFF Secretary General expressed particular concern over the timing and political context of the decision, accusing Washington of showing disregard for Zambia’s diplomatic alignment with U.S. foreign interests.

He noted that despite the current Zambian government’s silence on global injustices—including alleged human rights vi0l.ati0ns by U.S. allies like Israel—its loyalty had been met not with respect, but with “humili.ation.”

“Africa is not a continent of desperation,” he continued. “Our lands are rich in critical minerals, agricultural abundance, and youthful innovation. We do not need to beg for acceptance or bow to foreign conditions.”

Mr Simuntala also called on African governments to treat the visa bond policy as a wake-up call and urged them to take concrete steps toward continental unity and independence.

The NFF also reiterated its long-standing support for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the swift implementation of a unified African Passport, arguing that such mechanisms are essential to defending African sovereignty in the face of what it described as “imperialist forces.”

According to Mr Simuntala, Zambia’s growing importance in the global green energy transition—due to its deposits of copper, cobalt, and other critical minerals—may be one reason for the increased U.S. pressure.

He suggested that the visa restrictions could be part of a broader geopolitical strategy aimed at coercing the Zambian government into submission.

Mr Simuntala concluded by urging the Zambian government, the African Union, and other Pan-African forces to respond collectively and decisively to what it called a “diplomatic ins.ult.”

UPND “Angels” Convert Lundazi Civic Centre into Holy Ground – Dr. Mwansa Denied Entry Without Spiritual Clearance

UPND “Angels” Convert Lundazi Civic Centre into Holy Ground – Dr. Mwansa Denied Entry Without Spiritual Clearance

In a theatrical display that blurred the lines between politics and prophecy, a group of UPND cadres now self-styled as the “Angels of Democracy” descended upon the Lundazi Civic Centre, declaring it sacred territory and placing an unholy embargo on Council Secretary Dr. Mfula Mwansa.

Clad in fiery red party regalia that could rival the robes of Old Testament prophets, the cadres blocked the main gate with divine fervor chanting slogans⁷ as though casting out demons, or perhaps just civil servants.

“Only two things can allow Dr. Mwansa to pass,” one cadre shouted, “a letter of dismissal… or a baptism certificate signed by the President himself!”

Witnesses say the Civic Centre has since been transformed into a quasi-spiritual battleground with cadres speaking in tongues of governance and shouting holy decrees of transparency, accountability, and dismissal.

“This place is now holy ground,” declared another. “Dr. Mwansa must either repent… or resign. Preferably both. But we accept deliverance in instalments.”

Lusaka Thieves “Celebrate” Agricultural Show With Own Harvest – Loot Property Worth K343,990

Lusaka Thieves “Celebrate” Agricultural Show With Own Harvest – Loot Property Worth K343,990

Police Recover a Whopping K16,105 as Investigations Drag On

While thousands flocked to the Lusaka Agricultural and Commercial Show to showcase Zambia’s development and innovation, a group of cunning thieves decided to hold their own “exhibition” a grand showcase of crime looting property worth a staggering K343,990.00 during the week-long event.

According to police, the thieves made off with the goods in what can only be described as a heist disguised as a trade fair, taking full advantage of the bustling crowds and distracted exhibitors.

However, the long arm of the law has come through in flying colours, heroically recovering about 5% of the stolen properties, about K16,105.00, investigations are ongoing,” police stated and have reassured the public that efforts are being made to recover the rest, presumably one coin at a time.

While some came to see tractors, livestock, and local innovations, others clearly saw the event as a chance to reap where they didn’t sow quite literally.

Police have urged citizens to remain calm and continue cooperating with investigators, adding that they’re confident more breakthroughs will come possibly before the next show, if we’re lucky.

MAOMA HAILS MFUWE PEOPLE FOR ACCEPTING UPND

MAOMA HAILS MFUWE PEOPLE FOR ACCEPTING UPND

August 6,2025

UPND National Chairman Collins Maoma has commended the people of Mfuwe constituency in Lavushimanda for their overwhelming turnout during the party’s recent community engagements.

He said the massive attendance is a clear reflection that the people of Mfuwe have now embraced the United Party for National Development (UPND) and the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema.

Mr. Maoma explained that holding public meetings in the area was once a challenge when UPND was in the opposition, but the situation has changed significantly.

“The energy and acceptance we are witnessing in Mfuwe today is a sign of the trust people now have in our government,” he said.

He noted that the ongoing developmental projects in the constituency have won the hearts of many residents.

Mr. Maoma applauded President Hichilema for fostering national unity, which has seen even some opposition councillors aligning themselves with the ruling party.

He expressed disappointment that some opposition Members of Parliament are underutilizing the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

He said where the CDF is being used effectively, the results are visible and transformative.

“I want to urge all citizens to support the President and help him take development to every corner of the country,” he said.

Mr. Maoma called on Zambians to rally behind President Hichilema to ensure that development reaches every part of the nation.

Toxic Spill Triggers United States Evacuation in Kitwe….as Arsenic, Cyanide, and Uranium Detected

Toxic Spill Triggers U.S. Evacuation in Kitwe
……….as Arsenic, Cyanide, and Uranium Detected

The United States government has issued a high-level health alert and ordered the immediate withdrawal of all U.S. personnel from Kitwe and surrounding areas following a hazardous tailings dam spill at Sino Metals Leach Mine in Chambishi. The development has sparked widespread alarm, placing a spotlight on the environmental and public health crisis unfolding on the Copperbelt.

According to an official alert issued by the U.S. Embassy in Lusaka, newly confirmed data reveals the presence of carcinogenic substances in the spill, including arsenic, cyanide, uranium, and other toxic heavy metals. The contaminants, experts warn, pose both short-term and long-term health risks, not just through contaminated water and soil but also via airborne particles that can be inhaled.

As a precautionary measure, all U.S. government personnel have been pulled out of Chambishi, Kitwe, and areas along the Chambishi Stream and Mwambashi River extending downstream to the Mwambashi-Kafue River confluence. U.S. citizens in Zambia have been strongly advised to avoid the affected regions and to refrain from consuming local water or food cooked using municipal sources in Kitwe.

The U.S. alert points to the potential for widespread environmental exposure, highlighting the risk not only to residents in immediate proximity to the spill but also to downstream communities. “This is not an isolated incident,” one environmental scientist in Ndola warned. “Heavy metals like arsenic and uranium can persist in ecosystems for decades.”

While the Zambian government has yet to issue a full public report, pressure is mounting for an urgent response. Environmental activists have demanded that Sino Metals be held accountable for the spill, calling for independent testing, public disclosure of contamination zones, and medical support for exposed populations.

“This is a wake-up call about the hidden costs of unregulated mining,” said Gloria Mwansa, a local water rights campaigner. “We need immediate cleanup efforts and long-term monitoring not silence and evacuation orders.”

Kitwe, Zambia’s second-largest city and the economic heartbeat of the Copperbelt, now finds itself at the center of a public health emergency. With many residents relying on local water sources, the spill threatens livelihoods, agriculture, and food security in the area. Local health facilities have reportedly begun receiving patients with symptoms consistent with heavy metal exposure, though official confirmation remains pending.

The U.S. Embassy’s decision to evacuate its personnel underscores the severity and urgency of the crisis. “This isn’t just a diplomatic move it’s a signal to the world that the situation is dangerous and worsening,” said a former ZEMA official who asked to remain anonymous.

EMMANUEL MWAMBA’S LIES NOW MAKE HIM TWIST WHAT HAPPENED TO A ZAMBIA ARMY GENERAL

EMMANUEL MWAMBA’S LIES NOW MAKE HIM TWIST WHAT HAPPENED TO A ZAMBIA ARMY GENERAL

By Shalala Oliver Sepiso

The speed at which I have to point out lies that Emmanuel Mwamba writes in each day is frightening. Even a story where he can contact the Zambia Police for facts, even from the diaspora, the man decides to concoct a story and make it seem like the army general was being forced out of the army and was shot by state agents.

This evening, Emmanuel Mwamba wrote: “Last week, gunmen stormed his house, shot him in the head and leg and left him for dead. He is admitted to Maina Soko Medical Centre ICU, battling for his life. Strangely, in a twist of events, the Zambia Police has picked his wife and detained her at Woodlands Police Station.”

Just here -within these three short sentences – we can find many lies.

The shooting of the general didn’t happen at his home. Unconfirmed but reliable witness reports say it happened at Crossroad Mall. Anything else by Mwamba on the location is a figment of his imagination and a product of his rich but shameless lies.

The wife has not been arrested by the Zambia Police. And the woman who was with the general at the time of his shooting wasn’t the wife. Anything else by Mwamba on the wife being arrested is a figment of his imagination and a product of his rich but shameless lies.

The general is not currently at Maina Soko. He is at UTH. Anything else by Mwamba on the location of the patient is a figment of his imagination and a product of his rich but shameless lies.

The shooting of the general happened two weeks ago and not last week as he wrote. Anything else by Mwamba on the timing is a figment of his imagination and a product of his rich but shameless lies.

If Mwamba cared for the family of the general and indeed for the rest of the nation, he would not use such a solemn and tragic event for his political appetite to attack the government even in a straight-forward case that the police is handling and everyone around the case knows very well.

In addressing Emmanuel Mwamba, big brother, these stories you are concocting will come to haunt you one day. It’s not possible that you can weave all these webs and manage to extricate yourself from them all. You haven’t been smart at all by trying to be a champion on everything and everyone.

You will injure so many people who you can’t keep track of. This is just wrong to always accuse the government even if you have seen a sharp rise in cases of service personnel shooting spouses or being shot. We heard of a police office killing his wife and brother-in-law this past week. Even General Shikapwasha was – not so long ago – shoot. If it was now you, Emmanuel Mwamba, would have said Shikapwasha was trailed by UPND members or state agents and they shot him for this and that.

“ZAMBIA HELD HOSTAGE BY ONE MAN’S EGO”: LUBINDA BLASTS STATE OVER LUNGU FUNERAL, CALLS FOR OPPOSITION UNITY

“ZAMBIA HELD HOSTAGE BY ONE MAN’S EGO”: LUBINDA BLASTS STATE OVER LUNGU FUNERAL, CALLS FOR OPPOSITION UNITY

By Brian Matambo- Sandton, South Africa

In a searing interview on Emmanuel Mwamba Verified, Acting President of the Patriotic Front and the Tonse Alliance, Hon. Given Lubinda, issued a sweeping indictment of President Hakainde Hichilema’s government, accusing it of vendetta politics, tribal domination, and deliberate destabilization of Zambia’s democracy.

The episode, hosted by Emmanuel Mwamba, broadcasting from the United States, featured Lubinda live from South Africa, where he was providing solidarity to the Lungu family during an ongoing legal dispute with the Zambian state over the burial of the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

“To keep the remains of a former president in a morgue for 60 days, just so one man can preside over a funeral, is not a matter of protocol. It’s a matter of cruelty,” Lubinda said. “This is no longer about statecraft. This is about one man’s insatiable appetite for pain.”

*“THE STATE WAS SILENT; WE WERE FORCED TO LEAD”*
Lubinda detailed how news of President Lungu’s passing broke not from the government, but from the family, under pressure and without support.

“From 6 AM we waited. By 11, it was confirmed. But by 3 PM, it was his daughter, not the Head of State, who had to speak to the nation. That was the first betrayal.”

In the vacuum of leadership, Lubinda convened an emergency PF NEC meeting and declared a period of mourning. Provincial PF offices became the centers for national grief, as government remained conspicuously absent.

“Our people gathered peacefully. They mourned with dignity. They led where the government failed.”

*A FUNERAL TURNED BATTLEFIELD*
Lubinda exposed how earlier agreements with the family were violated by the state, including attempts to impose a closed church service at the airport and the exclusion of PF leaders from receiving the body. T-shirts bearing Lungu’s face were printed without family or party authorization.

“This wasn’t about honoring a former president. This was a power grab, dressed in black,” Lubinda said. “When the family refused to surrender the remains to the state, the government sued them. Sued a grieving widow. In a foreign court.”

Lubinda applauded the legal defense mounted by family lawyer Makebi Zulu, emphasizing that no Zambian law dictates burial arrangements for former heads of state.

*“ONE MAN’S TYRANNY”*
Lubinda pointed the finger squarely at President Hichilema.

“No Cabinet resolution. No national consensus. This is not government policy, it is one man’s obsession,” he said. “Hakainde is enjoying their suffering. That’s the only way to explain this cruelty.”

He also warned that Zambia’s international standing is now in question, with interventions from South African and regional leaders failing to persuade the government to relent.

*THE QUESTION OF TRIBE*
The show took a sharp turn when a Catholic priest, Father Pombo, criticised prominent political figures from Luapula, Northern and Eastern who have been gullible to be used by the UPND to destabilise the opposition. A female caller then phoned in, attacking the priest and suggesting he was himself being tribal.

Let’s be honest: it is not Zambians who are tribal. It is the political elites, especially the UPND, who have used tribal identity as a weapon since Mapatizya in 2006.

They have shamelessly leaned on regionalism while portraying themselves as victims. President Hichilema’s pattern of appointments, heavily skewed along ethnic and regional lines, is evidence enough. Yet the same voices who jumped to call out Father Pombo are silent when it comes to HH’s blatant tribal favoritism.

The lady who called in should go and reprimand Hakainde Hichilema, not Father Pombo. Let us not pretend.

A CAPTURED STATE: PARLIAMENT, JUDICIARY, AND THE MEDIA

Lubinda described Zambia’s Parliament as a shadow of democracy.

“MPs are suspended for speaking the truth. One was abducted and vanished. The Speaker now answers questions before ministers do. Parliament is no longer independent. It’s an appendage of State House.”

He warned that the judiciary is also falling in line, citing the rushed creation of a Financial Crimes Court upon a mere presidential pronouncement.

“Zambia is now ruled by decree, not law.”

“UNITY OR BETRAYAL”

Lubinda closed with a firm declaration: there is no other path to 2026 except unity.

“The PF will not go it alone,” he said. “Any political party or movement that goes solo in 2026 will be betraying the people of Zambia.”

He recommitted the Patriotic Front and the Tonse Alliance to building a unified, credible opposition front.

“We can only defeat tyranny together. We don’t have the luxury of ego. We have a country to rescue.”

As Lubinda ended the interview, his voice steadied with purpose:

“They feared Edgar Lungu in life. They fear him even more in death. But no matter how long they delay it, his remains will return home. And so will the hope he stood for.”

Zambia Caught in a Visa Bond Trap: Is the American Dream Worth $15,000?- Amb. Anthony Mukwita

Zambia Caught in a Visa Bond Trap: Is the American Dream Worth $15,000?

Amb. Anthony Mukwita wrote-

6 Aug 25

Starting August 20, 2025, Zambians hoping to visit the United States for business or leisure will need to post a refundable visa bond of up to $15,000. That’s not just a steep price, it’s a mountain.
Let’s break it down:

At today’s exchange rate of ZK22.52 per dollar, that’s ZK337, 800. For most Zambians, whose median daily income hovers around ZK45, this bond is not just unaffordable, and it’s laughable. Or tragic. Or both.

Now ask yourself: what could ZK337, 800 do for you here at home? Build a small house yes!
• It could build a classroom block for 70 students.

• It could drill a borehole to bring clean water to an entire village.
• It could fund local entrepreneurship and create jobs.
Instead, it’s being used to buy a chance at the American dream, a dream that’s increasingly looking like a gated community with a very expensive entry fee.

易 Why Zambia?
The U.S. says it’s about visa overstays. In FY2023, 388 out of 3,493 Zambian visitors overstayed, that’s 11.1%. High ratio, low volume. But still, Zambia made the list.
Other reasons cited include:
• Weak passport vetting systems
• Limited cooperation on deportations
• Foreign policy concerns, including corruption

But here’s the kicker: countries with higher overstay volumes, like Brazil and Colombia, aren’t on the list. So is this really about security, or selective scrutiny? Think about bro!
Rights groups like Amnesty International call it a “legalized shakedown.” I call it a wake-up call, like the plug off USAID.

 Do We Still Need Uncle Sam?

Zambia is rich, not just in minerals, but in potential.
• We’ve got vast land ripe for agriculture.
• We’ve got copper, cobalt, and gold beneath our feet.
• We’ve got youthful energy waiting to be unleashed.
• Youthful population name it.

So why are we still chasing visas like they’re golden tickets?
Let’s flip the narrative. Instead of exporting our dreams, let’s build them here. Let’s make Zambia the destination, not the departure lounge.

 Quotable Reality Check

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, build a borehole.”

A Zambian proverb I just made up.
“The American dream for Africans is now a $15,000 gamble.”
– Reality, 2025 edition

“Paradise isn’t a place you flee from. It’s a place you build.”
– Let’s start building Zambia. It’s a potential paradise.

 Make Paradise Home
The visa bond is more than a policy, it’s a mirror. It reflects how we’re seen, and how we see ourselves.
So let’s ask the hard question:
Is it worth it?
Or better yet:

What if we made Zambia the place people dream of going to?
Not for much but as an international relations scholar and author I just find myself trying to make sense out of international news. Here below are some stats you might find useful and speak intelligently about this matter beyond speculation.

As of August 2025, the U.S. visa bond pilot program affects the following African countries, either directly or through related restrictions:
 Countries with Full Visa Suspensions
These nations face complete bans on certain visa categories:
• Libya
• Somalia
• Sudan

 Countries with Partial Visa Suspensions
These face restrictions on specific visa types or categories:
• Eritrea
• South Sudan
• Sierra Leone
 Countries under Review or Facing Visa Bonds
These countries are either part of the visa bond pilot or may be added based on overstay rates and vetting concerns:
• Zambia  (confirmed: $5,000–$15,000 bond required)
• Malawi  (confirmed: $5,000–$15,000 bond required)

• Nigeria
• Angola
• Liberia
• Mauritania
• Burkina Faso
• Cabo Verde
• Cameroon
• Chad
• DR Congo
• Equatorial Guinea
• Gambia
• Benin
• Mali
• Republic of Congo
• Sao Tome and Principe
• Zimbabwe

These countries were flagged due to:
• High visa overstay rates (often above 10%)
• Weak passport vetting systems
• Limited cooperation on deportations
• Foreign policy concerns, including corruption and governance issues.

US Makes It Harder and Expensive for Malawi and Zambia Travellers: US$15,000 Visa Bond Imposed Under New Rules

US Slaps $15,000 Visa Bond on Malawi and Zambia Travellers

Travelling to the United States is about to get tougher and more expensive for some African visitors.

US Slaps $15,000 Visa Bond on Malawi and Zambia Travellers
Starting August 20, citizens of Malawi and Zambia applying for US tourist or business visas (B-1/B-2) will be required to pay a visa bond of up to $15,000 before being issued a visa. This is part of a new pilot programme rolled out by the US State Department to curb visa overstays.

According to a notice on the State Department website, only those deemed “otherwise eligible” for the visa will be asked to post a bond. The amount—$5,000, $10,000, or $15,000—will be decided during the visa interview.

The US says this move targets travellers from countries with high rates of overstaying, weak screening systems, or those offering citizenship without residency requirements. Officials say it’s also influenced by foreign policy considerations.

A spokesperson explained that the list of countries could change over time, depending on data and evolving concerns. For now, Malawi and Zambia are first on the chopping block.

The bond isn’t a fee—it’s a refundable deposit. If the traveller leaves the US on time and follows all visa rules, the money will be repaid in full.

But it’s not all smooth sailing.

Limited Airports Only; Fly Elsewhere and Risk Trouble
Travellers who post a visa bond must enter and exit the United States via only three airports:

Boston Logan International Airport

New York’s JFK International Airport

Washington Dulles International Airport

Anyone arriving or departing from a different US port of entry may be denied access or have issues with registering their departure.

This move is part of former President Donald Trump’s hardline stance on immigration, which included a travel ban on 19 countries and calls for stricter border control.

Data from 2023 shows that several African countries—Burundi, Djibouti, and Togo, among others, also had high visa overstay rates, raising speculation that more names might be added to the bond list soon.

The visa bond policy is expected to cause serious concern among those planning to travel to the US from affected regions, especially for families, students, and small business owners who may struggle to raise such large sums upfront.

Respect the Presidency, Emmanuel Mwamba Must Uphold National Decorum

Respect the Presidency, Emmanuel Mwamba Must Uphold National Decorum

In any democracy, freedom of speech is protected,  but it must be exercised with responsibility, especially when addressing the Head of State.

Former Ambassador Emmanuel Mwamba’s recent remarks and tone towards President Hakainde Hichilema have crossed the line from fair criticism into disrespect.

As a senior citizen and public figure, Mr. Emmanuel Mwamba should know that mocking the presidency does not strengthen democracy, it weakens it.

President Hakainde Hichilema was elected by the Zambian people and holds a constitutional mandate to lead the nation.

Whether one agrees with his policies or not, the office he occupies deserves the utmost respect. Reducing every national matter to humour or ridicule not only disrespects the President but also undermines the dignity of the Zambian people who voted him into power.

We must never allow political differences to breed personal contempt. Zambia needs a mature and issue-based political culture, not a circus of mockery. Criticism must remain constructive, respectful, and grounded in facts, not insults or satire. Let us remind Mr. Mwamba and others in public life that patriotism begins with respect, and President Hichilema deserves nothing less.

Hypocrisy at Its Peak: Why President Hichilema’s Attempt to Paint Edgar Lungu as a National Figure of National Importance Rings Hollow

Hypocrisy at Its Peak: Why President Hichilema’s Attempt to Paint Edgar Lungu as a National Figure of National Importance Rings Hollow- Thandiwe Ketiš Ngoma

By Thandiwe Ketiš Ngoma

In a stunning display of political doublespeak, President Hakainde Hichilema’s legal team has gone before the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria to declare that former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu “deserves a State funeral” because he was “a national figure of national importance.” This is not just ironic; it is outright hypocrisy, and the Zambian people deserve better than this theatrical posturing from a government that for years failed to show even the slightest respect to the man in question.

Let us not pretend history started yesterday.

From the onset of his presidency, Hichilema made it his mission to humiliate and erase Edgar Lungu from the national conscience. His government actively harassed the former president, withdrew his security, blocked his travels, and openly mocked him through both official channels and party surrogates. He sent cadres to insult him publicly, to humiliate him before the very people he once led, and to paint him as a villain. Where was the “national importance” then? When President Hichilema allowed the systematic destruction of his predecessor’s image and dignity, did he forget that this same man had once been head of state?

What kind of twisted hypocrisy allows you to strip a man of all dignity in life only to demand that he be honored in death? That is not compassion. That is not justice. That is witchcraft, a macabre theater where dignity is weaponized for show after being denied in substance.

The current rhetoric from Hichilema’s government reeks of insincerity. State funerals are meant to celebrate legacies and recognize service to the nation. But how can the President pretend to be the guardian of national unity and respect when he effectively wished his predecessor dead by denying him access to timely medical treatment? Reports that President Lungu was blocked from seeking medical attention abroad, despite clear signs of failing health, are not only disturbing. They are cruel. And now the same man wants to preside over the funeral of someone whose death he may have accelerated through negligence or deliberate obstruction?

If there is any decency left in State House, President Hichilema should recuse himself from any role in the funeral of Edgar Chagwa Lungu. That would be the first truly respectful gesture he has ever offered toward his predecessor.

The legal circus surrounding the funeral arrangements only adds salt to the wound. That Hichilema’s administration took a grieving family to court and then sought permission to send a government official to “identify and authenticate” the body is an act of cold-hearted bureaucracy and stunning arrogance. This was never about honor. It was about control, about political positioning, not personal respect.

Leadership is not about burying your opponents with fanfare. It is about how you treat them when they stand before you, vulnerable, out of power, yet still human. On this test, President Hichilema has failed disgracefully. He cannot claim to value President Lungu now without also acknowledging his own role in trying to destroy him while he lived.

Zambians are not blind. We remember the public insults, the personal vendettas, the deliberate exclusions from national events, and the complete erasure of Lungu’s legacy from state narratives. We remember the harassment, the travel restrictions, and the thinly veiled threats against his family and allies. And now the same government that made it its mission to erase him wants to wrap his coffin in a flag and pretend to mourn?

This is not reconciliation. This is not dignity. This is political theater, a cynical performance staged by those who showed no mercy in life but now seek credit in death.

President Hichilema, if you truly believe in dignity, then you should have practiced it while Edgar Lungu could still hear your words and feel your actions. You cannot bury your hypocrisy under a state funeral. The Zambian people see it for what it is.

MORGAN MUUNDA URGES TO SET ASIDE POLITICS, EMPHASIZES UNITY AHEAD OF PRESIDENT LUNGU’S FUNERAL

MORGAN MUUNDA URGES TO SET ASIDE POLITICS, EMPHASIZES UNITY AHEAD OF PRESIDENT LUNGU’S FUNERAL

By Wagon Media

5th August, 2025 – Lusaka, Zambia 

Morgan Muunda, aspiring Member of Parliament for Chawama under the United Party for National Development (UPND), has appealed for national unity and respect as the country prepares for the return and burial of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

Addressing journalists in Lusaka, Mr. Muunda voiced his disapproval of what he termed attempts by certain opposition leaders to use the late President’s funeral for political gain. He stressed the importance of maintaining dignity and honoring the former leader without division or controversy.

“Those pushing for President Lungu to be buried in South Africa are not only politicizing the funeral but denying Zambians a chance to mourn a former head of state appropriately,” said Mr. Muunda. “This behavior is clearly politically motivated. If there’s a hidden agenda, it should be made public — not masked behind national mourning.”

The event also saw participation from senior religious leaders in Chawama, who stood in solidarity with Mr. Muunda in calling for peace, reconciliation, and national healing.

On development, Mr. Muunda commended President Hakainde Hichilema and the New Dawn government for driving tangible progress across various sectors. He pointed to improvements in agriculture, infrastructure, mining, health, and green energy as signs of the administration’s dedication.

“With a vision to increase copper production to 3 million metric tonnes annually, we are setting the stage for a stronger Kwacha, with potential to match the US dollar,” he noted.

“In the agricultural sector, the push to produce 10 million tonnes of maize, along with one million tonnes each of soya and wheat, is a bold step towards ensuring food security and reducing the cost of mealie meal.”

Mr. Muunda encouraged all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, to unite behind national development goals. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing Zambia’s future over partisan interests.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to listening to grassroots voices and thanked the people of Chawama for their growing support and trust.

“Now is the time to look beyond political differences and come together to create a peaceful, prosperous, and self-reliant Zambia,” he concluded.

DAVID KAKOMA PAYS TRIBUTE TO MRS. ESTHER LUNGU AND THE LUNGU FAMILY

DAVID KAKOMA PAYS TRIBUTE TO MRS. ESTHER LUNGU AND THE LUNGU FAMILY

“You Carry Unspoken Grace That We All Envy”

Aspiring Member of Parliament for Matero Constituency, Mr. David Kakoma, has extended a heartfelt message of sympathy and encouragement to Mrs. Esther Lungu and the entire Lungu family, as the nation marks two months since the passing of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

In his statement, Mr. Kakoma described Mrs. Lungu as a woman of “unspoken grace that we all envy,” noting her remarkable strength and dignity both during and after her husband’s time in office. He acknowledged the heavy burden the family continues to bear, saying the loss of President Lungu was not only a national tragedy but a deeply personal sorrow for those closest to him.

“It is often said that behind every great leader stands a source of quiet strength,” Mr. Kakoma observed. “Mrs. Lungu was, and remains, that strength. Throughout President Lungu’s years of public service, she served with grace, dignity, and an unshakeable sense of duty to her family and to the nation.”

He further recognised that the Lungu family had carried both the public weight of national leadership and the private pain of personal grief. Their fortitude, composure, and unity, he noted, have been an inspiration to many Zambians during this difficult period.

Mr. Kakoma encouraged Mrs. Lungu to find comfort in the enduring legacy of her late husband. “His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, in the peace he preserved, and in the nation he faithfully served,” he said.

He assured the Lungu family of continued prayers and support, adding that the nation stands with them in remembrance, honour, and profound respect.

“May the Lord strengthen you, console you, and grant you peace in the days ahead,” Mr. Kakoma concluded. “You are not alone; the nation stands with you. May President Lungu’s soul rest in eternal peace.”

GOVERNMENT EXTENDS IMF PROGRAMME BY ONE YEAR TO CONSOLIDATE ECONOMIC RECOVERY

GOVERNMENT EXTENDS IMF PROGRAMME BY ONE YEAR TO CONSOLIDATE ECONOMIC RECOVERY

Government has extended the International Monetary Fund (IMF) supported economic reform program by one year, stating that this decision is essential to maintain confidence among lenders, investors, and development partners as Zambia recovers from its debt crisis.

Finance and National Planning Minister Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, at a media briefing today, underscored the importance of preserving the  progress achieved under the program since 2022.

He emphasized that the continued involvement of the IMF reassures both external and domestic creditors that Zambia is dedicated to prudent financial management and reform.

Mr. Musokotwane says the extension will unlock an additional US$145 million in IMF funding and protect over K4 billion in donor support intended for the 2026 national budget.

The Minister further  noted that while progress has been made in restructuring external debt, the country is now facing increasing pressure from maturing domestic debt instruments such as treasury bills and bonds.

ZAMBIA’S ECONOMIC FORTUNES IMPROVE AS RESERVES RISE, KWACHA STRENGTHENS, AND BOND MARKET REBOUNDS

ZAMBIA’S ECONOMIC FORTUNES IMPROVE AS RESERVES RISE, KWACHA STRENGTHENS, AND BOND MARKET REBOUNDS

…..Gross international reserves increased to US$4.5 billion equivalent to 4.6 months of import cover at end March 2025

Lusaka… August 5, 2025 (SMART EAGLES)

The Ministry of Finance has disclosed that the Gross international reserves increased to US$4.5 billion (equivalent to 4.6 months of import cover) at end March 2025 from US$4.3 billion at end – December 2024.

Secretary to the Treasury Felix Nkulukusa says this was mostly due to net Bank of Zambia forex purchases from the mines, non-tax foreign exchange revenue and project receipts largely underpinned the rise in the reserves.

Meanwhile, Mr Nkulukusa disclosed that after depreciating 8% in 2022, 30% in 2023 and 8% last year, the kwacha is stronger by 19% against the dollar in 2025.

He said this during the Town Hall Forum on the First Half of 2025 Budget Performance and Economic Developments meeting in Lusaka today.

He also said after restructuring Zambia’s bonds in July 2024, they have become a top performer in some of the riskiest parts of the global debt market.

He said bond holders of Zambian bonds are now reaping a bonanza.

“For example, as at 20th June 2025, a US$100 million investment in a Zambian bond had swelled to US$121 million in less than a year as lenders to emerging markets and high-yield borrowers in general turned the same amount into much less, US$109 million and US$112 million, respectively,” he said.

“Zambia has made significant progress with its debt restructuring, having achieved over 92% Agreement In Principal with its creditors amounting to US$12.4 billion. Of this amount, US$4.01 billion was restructured in 2024,US$2.70 billion in 2025. The balance of US$5.7 billion is yet to be concluded. We continue to engage with the remaining 7.8%,of whom are private creditors, not yet agreed in Principle, in good faith.”

Mr Nkulukusa further said the debt service to revenue ratio is currently calculated at 24.2 % in 2025 and not 14% which is the target, mainly on account of PDI accrued in 2023 and 2024, as well as the fuel liability management operation.

“Accordingly, to resolve the breach, we would need about $3,054 million (about K84 billion) in new revenue measures to meet the DSA programme parameters. Discounting one offs (PDIs and fuel arears payments) leaves us with a debt service to revenue ratio at 15%. (US $943.7 million debt service vs a total of US $6.29 billion revenues), implying a breach of about 1% which requires revenue efforts of about $450 million (about K12.6 billion) in additional revenues to meet the 14 percent threshold (US $943.7 million Vs US $6.74 billion). We thus need more revenue effort in 2025 and the medium term,” he added.

“The developments in the first half of 2025 reflect both Zambia’s resilience and the impact of the reforms that the New Dawn Government has continued to implement under the 8NDP. The developments have also shown that Government’s commitments under the economic reform programme have started bearing fruits.

However, as Government, we are cognizant of challenges that we must operate under, such as increasingly uncertain global economic environment, and improving our livelihoods. Even with global uncertainty, we remain confident that through implementation of sound policy, prudent fiscal management, and close collaboration with our stakeholders, we will build a stronger and more inclusive economy.”

UPND MEDIA TEAM MEMBER NABBED BY POLICE FOR THEFT, IMPERSONATION AND ALTERING OF DOCUMENTS

UPND MEDIA TEAM MEMBER NABBED BY POLICE FOR THEFT, IMPERSONATION AND ALTERING OF DOCUMENTS

A member of the United Party for National Development Media team, Kelvin Chifokolo has been arrested by police in Lusaka.

This is in line with investigations on allegations of Theft, Impersonation and Altering of documents.

Chifokolo who is also a former Prime Television employee had resigned in December of 2024 after facing displinary charges,

Allegations are that Chifokolo collected money amounting to k116,000 in July of 2025 from a named church meant for adverts on pretext that he was doing it for and on behalf of Prime Television.

And only remitted k60,000 to Prime Television head of marketing manager Charity Banda.

And the said Banda was also interrogated by police and stated that she only received k60,000 from Chifokolo, and expressed ignorance over the remainder of the money from the k116,000.

Further allegations are that Chifokolo altered old Prime Television receipts that had came in his possession during the time that he worked for the company, changing the dates and issued them to the said church as proof of payment for the transaction of the k116,000.

And Police assistant public relations officer Godfrey Chilabi in a statement issued to the press has confirmed the arrest of Chifokolo stating that he is currently in police custody awaiting to appear before the courts of law.

It is the conduct of your boss on this matter that is shameful and truly embarrassing- Sishuwa Sishuwa

It is the conduct of your boss on this matter that is shameful and truly embarrassing.

Sishuwa Sishuwa writes;

First, your boss fast-tracked Lungu’s death by preventing the former president from seeking and accessing timely medical care. The right to life is EVERYTHING. By denying Lungu his legal entitlement – a point that the Attorney General admitted in court – your boss sent a clear message: he, in effect, wanted Lungu to die. Well, your boss got his wish.

Second, after Lungu died, your boss swore to attend the funeral of his predecessor – as if to mock him even in death – even when the family made it explicitly clear that he was unwelcome, appointed himself as the chief mourner, and declared that no member of the public must view the corpse before he does.

Third, following your boss’s refusal to stay away from Lungu’s funeral, the grieving family decided to bury the deceased in South Africa, but your boss – in an astonishing show of petty animosity, callousness, and cruelty – moved to halt a funeral that was underway! As a result of this action by your boss, Lungu remains in a refrigerator two months after his death. The plight of his grieving family is of little consequence to you and your boss.

Fourth, and more recently, your boss, through his lawyers, demanded access to the body so that he could “identify and authenticate” it because doing so was, to him, of “personal importance”.

Fifth, only yesterday, after the court hearing, rogue media outlets run from State House and several supporters of your boss started celebrating that “It is coming home” as though Lungu’s body is a trophy.

I can go on, Elias, but I believe you have got the point: you and your boss should be the last people to talk about shame and embarrassment because you have consistently demonstrated, through your disgusting conduct on several occasions including this specific one, that you enjoy immunity from such emotion and lack empathy.

Brazilian Supreme Court judge has placed former president Jair Bolsonaro under house arrest

A Brazilian Supreme Court judge has placed former president Jair Bolsonaro under house arrest, accusing him of violating a court-ordered social media ban during his ongoing trial for allegedly plotting a coup after losing the 2022 election.

The dramatic move escalates tensions between the country’s judiciary and the embattled right-wing politician, who is accused of conspiring with allies to remain in power after his defeat to current President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who is overseeing the trial, said Bolsonaro had shown a “repeated failure” to obey court orders. The former army captain is prohibited from using social media and from having third parties share his public remarks during the proceedings.

However, on Sunday, Bolsonaro’s supporters circulated online footage of a video call between him and his son, Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, made during a pro-Bolsonaro rally in Rio de Janeiro. The act was deemed a direct violation of the court’s restrictions.

Reacting to the incident, Moraes said the court “would not allow a defendant to treat it like a fool” due to “political and economic power.” As a result, Bolsonaro was placed under house arrest at his residence in Brasília, barred from receiving visitors except his lawyers, and prohibited from using mobile phones. Authorities also confirmed that multiple phones were seized from his home.

Bolsonaro, 70, who served as Brazil’s president from 2019 to 2022, had already been ordered last month to wear an electronic ankle monitor and abide by a nighttime and weekend curfew as part of the pre-trial conditions.

The United States swiftly condemned the new restrictions. The State Department’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs wrote on X: “Minister Alexandre de Moraes, already sanctioned by the United States for human rights violations, continues to use Brazilian institutions to silence the opposition and threaten democracy. Let Bolsonaro speak!”

The post was amplified by Bolsonaro’s son, Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro, who has lobbied Washington to take punitive measures against Brazil’s judiciary. “Brazil is no longer a democracy,” he wrote, calling Moraes an “out-of-control psychopath.”

The U.S. under President Donald Trump, who returned to power in 2024, has already imposed personal sanctions on Moraes, banning him from entering the country and freezing his U.S. assets. Moraes has styled himself as a defender of Brazilian democracy amid growing concerns about the far-right’s influence.

Bolsonaro’s legal troubles stem from an alleged plot, hatched with seven co-defendants, to overturn the 2022 election results. Prosecutors claim the conspiracy only failed because the military refused to participate. If convicted, Bolsonaro could face up to 40 years in prison. The trial is expected to conclude in the coming weeks.

Following Lula’s inauguration in January 2023, Bolsonaro supporters stormed Brazil’s Congress, attacking police and vandalizing the chambers, events that drew comparisons to the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot by Trump’s supporters.

Despite being banned from seeking office, Bolsonaro is aiming for a Trump-style political comeback in Brazil’s 2026 election. His conservative base remains loyal, with weekend rallies in Rio, São Paulo, and Brasília featuring U.S. flags and signs reading “Thank you Trump.”

President Lula, 79, has suggested he may seek re-election in 2026, health permitting. He was hospitalized last year after suffering a brain hemorrhage following a bathroom fall.

Brig.  Gen.  Timothy Kazembe – the death of an officer and a gentleman

GUEST ARTICLE: Brig.Gen. Timothy Kazembe – the death of an officer and a gentleman

By Kellys Kaunda

The period was November 1993 and November 1994. Exactly one year.

Zambia hosted Angola Peace Talks. The Unita Rebel delegation camped at Pamodzi Hotel.

The MPLA delegation at the Holiday Inn now Southern Sun.

The UN secretariat which served as the mediator was at the Intercontinental Hotels.

The mediator was Blondine Beye, a former Malian Foreign Minister.

The secretariat was staffed by Zambian security personnel of which Brig. Gen. Kazembe was a key officer.

I was covering the talks for the Voice of America, VOA.

It was a complex and challenging assignment to cover because the parties to the talks rarely made public statements.

This was a delicate negotiation of a civil war that had been going on since the mid seventies claiming thousands of lives and producing thousands more as refugees.

I learnt about the art of negotiations and what is known as shuttle diplomacy.

It was thus called because the mediator literally shuttled between the Pamodzi Hotel and the Holiday Inn to convey positions and responses until the atmosphere was ripe for face-to-face talks.

I needed to report every day what was going on. It was not easy.

Then, by a stroke of luck, I came to know and gained the confidence of Brig.Gen. Kazembe.

Careful not to compromise his ethical position, he would delicately and gingerly guide me through important developments of the negotiations.

Throughout the duration of the talks, he was my anchor and my guide.

I learnt every technical term associated with the talks and reported them with the accuracy of a security pro.

I fell in love with security issues so much so that when I was in foreign service, I decided, among other things, to study for a masters degree in International Security Studies.

My editor at the VOA gained my confidence because my reporting of the peace talks was not only accurate but timely.

Brig.Gen. Kazembe treated me fondly like his younger brother.

Often he referred to me as “mwaice”, meaning “young man”.

I liked it. It meant that our relationship had passed the test for confidentiality which was necessary for both of us.

Sometimes, we talked about things unrelated to the peace talks.

I learnt of his tour of duty as a Consul General in Lubumbashi (if my memory serves me right. I stand to be corrected).

He showed me a book he had written based on his tour of duty there.

I would want one day to see that book reprinted as literature on diplomacy in Zambia is scanty.

Through my interaction with Brig.General Kazembe, the myth I held about men and women in uniform that the only education they had was the one offered at military training camps was cleared.

A good number of them hold the same qualifications that we civilians have from the same universities we attend.

Their military titles are the only reason they don’t use academic titles.

Contrary to popular views that associate them with brute force, our men and women in uniform are in essence, like Brig.Gen. Kazembe, Officers, gentlemen and women.

Farewell Dr. Kazembe until the trumpet sounds signaling the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on that glorious resurrection morning.

Zambian conman who stole £3.5million in elaborate mortgage scam is finally being deported after losing 25-year battle to stay in UK

Zambian conman who stole £3.5million in elaborate mortgage scam is finally being deported after losing 25-year battle to stay in UK!

A conman with a string of convictions including identity fraud to steal people’s homes has finally lost a 25-year legal fight against deportation to his native Zambia.

Alick Kapikanya, now 57, has been fighting deportation since his first conviction in 1992, when he was warned he could be removed from Britain.

His crimes began with attempted fraud and theft, then he progressed into being part of a gang which stole elderly people’s identities to take ownership of their homes, remortgage them and pocket the cash.

While his crimes caused misery – with victims having to mount court fights to regain their properties – Kapikanya travelled in chauffeur-driven limousines, stayed in luxury West End hotels and gambled away £170,000 in a single night.

After challenging five deportation orders, most recently from 2016, via immigration tribunals, the criminal’s luck has now finally run out.

In a ruling at the end of July, Appeal Court judges Lord Justice Bean, Lord Justice Peter Jackson and Lord Justice Baker ordered Kapikanya be deported.

They wrote: ‘[Kapikanya] has been the subject of five decisions that he should be deported over a period of a quarter of a century.

‘The system of appeals and orders for reconsideration has served him well in enabling him to remain in the UK throughout that period.’

Kapikanya was first warned he was at risk of being sent back to his native Zambia in February 1992 after he was convicted of attempted fraud.

In March 2000, after serving a prison sentence for theft, he lost an appeal against deportation, but no order to remove him from the country was ever made.

The conman was then convicted of dishonesty in 2008 and again notified of his liability to deportation.

On 12 March 2013, then Home Secretary Teresa May made a decision to deport him but he successfully appealed and was granted leave to remain until 15 April 2016.

In the meantime, Kapikanya was convicted of conspiracy to defraud in 2014, in relation to the £3.5m housing scam, and jailed for six years.

Manchester Crown Court heard he led a gang of con artists that stole the identities of elderly people across Greater Manchester and the north west. The gang secretly seized ownership of their houses and then repeatedly re-mortgaged them, the court was told.

Horrified homeowners had to fight to reclaim legal ownership of their own houses whilst Kapikanya, then of Stretford, Greater Manchester, splashed the cash on a luxury lifestyle.

Four homes were targeted in Worsley, Greater Manchester, one each in the villages of Hale and Malpas, Cheshire, and three properties owned by a couple in Sleaford, Lincolnshire. It was the eleventh time Kapikanya had been convicted of a crime in this country.

Yet another deportation order was made on 3 February 2016 – but he challenged removal via the Court of Appeal and his case was returned to a First-tier Tribunal.

It took another seven years for the case to be heard and Kapikanya was allowed him to remain in January 2023 based on the ‘unduly harsh and very compelling’ impact on his son, who was 17 at the time.

The Home Office successfully challenged the decision in the Upper Tier tribunal, leading to Kapikanya to go to the Court of Appeal.

In the latest hearing, the Appeal Court heard he came to the UK in April 1983, aged 14, to be adopted. The adoption fell through and, the court heard, Kapikanya was ‘assimilated into a religious cult’.

Now married with a 20-year-old son, at an earlier appeal hearing Kapikanya argued he was in remission from stomach cancer and was suffering from anxiety. He was described as being ‘socially and culturally integrated into the United Kingdom’ with ‘no familial or social links with Zambia’.
Barrister Zane Malik KC argued deportation would be ‘unduly harsh’ on Kapikanya’s son. Mr Malik added ‘over and above’ that the fact Kapikanya has lived in the UK for 42 years also constituted ‘very compelling circumstances’.

But the panel of judges said Home Secretary Yvette Cooper ‘should now, at last, be allowed to put the November 2016 deportation order into effect.’

Describing the impact of the property fraud at the time Kapikanya was sentenced, Ben Southam, senior crown prosecutor, said: ‘The mortgages and loans were obtained against houses they did not own, and without the knowledge of the real homeowners.’

The true owners ‘knew nothing about the loans’ and were caused ‘considerable distress and inconvenience’, he added.

UPND REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT AHEAD OF MFUWE BY-ELECTION.

UPND REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT AHEAD OF MFUWE BY-ELECTION.

Lavushimanda, August 5, 2025 – The United Party for National Development (UPND) has reiterated its commitment to educating citizens about government development programs and promoting its vision of inclusive national progress.

Speaking during a community engagement in Lavushimanda ahead of the August 7 parliamentary by-election in Mfuwe Constituency, UPND Deputy Spokesperson Elvis Akatuntulu Nkandu said the party is working to deepen its presence in the region, despite past challenges.

Mr. Nkandu noted that the UPND had previously struggled to establish a strong foothold in Mfuwe due to political hostility, but stressed that the party remained focused on building unity and delivering tangible development.

“President Hakainde Hichilema has rolled out a robust development program aimed at transforming lives across Zambia, without ethnic or regional bias,” Nkandu said. “Old learning and health facilities are being upgraded through increased Constituency Development Funds (CDF), and since we formed government, no child has been paying school fees.”

He dismissed the misinformation spread by some political opponents during the 2021 general elections, which claimed that electing President Hichilema would cause division.

Mr. Nkandu said the opposite has proven true, with the President prioritizing unity, equity, and national cohesion through the equitable distribution of resources.

“Programs such as the Social Cash Transfer, Cash for Work, and the timely delivery of farming inputs are being implemented nationwide without any form of segregation,” he added.

Mr. Nkandu also called on the people of Mfuwe to vote for the UPND parliamentary candidate Malama Mfunelo in the upcoming by-election, saying the candidate embodies the party’s commitment to inclusive development and grassroots empowerment.

“The UPND is here to stay and work with the people of Mfuwe. We are not just asking for votes, we are offering a long-term partnership built on development, accountability, and service,” he said.

‘Set our husbands free’, Barberton community pleads for release of arrested 500 illegal miners

‘Set our husbands free’, Barberton community pleads for release of arrested 500 illegal miners

The community of Barberton in Mpumalanga is calling on authorities to release about 500 illegal miners arrested at Sheba Mine on Friday, saying their husbands were only trying to provide for their families.

Many of the detained are believed to be undocumented foreign nationals who had turned to illegal mining in a desperate attempt to earn a living. Now, their wives and families say they are left without support.

“These men are our husbands, our brothers. They are not criminals they were just trying to put food on the table,” said one woman outside the police station. “We don’t have money for lawyers or bail. All we want is for them to come home.”

The mass arrests were part of SAPS’ Operation Vala Umgodi, a crackdown on illegal mining that has drawn both praise and criticism. Meanwhile, 28 more miners surfaced from underground shafts on Monday, further complicating the situation.

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA PAYS GLOWING TRIBUTE TO LATE ACKSON SEJANI

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA PAYS GLOWING TRIBUTE TO LATE ACKSON SEJANI

LUSAKA, Tuesday, August 5, 2025 —
President Hakainde Hichilema has paid glowing tribute to the late Local Government Service Commission Chairperson, Ackson Sejani, describing him as a principled and consistent leader whose commitment to democracy never wavered, even in the face of adversity.

Speaking during the Funeral Church Service held at the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka, President Hichilema praised Mr. Sejani’s legacy of selfless public service and unwavering dedication to Zambia’s democratic journey.

“His consistency amidst adversity was outstanding,” President Hichilema said. “I remember sharing a police cell with him when we were falsely accused of murder.”

The President recounted a moment during a by-election in Livingstone when both he and Mr. Sejani were wrongfully accused of a crime. At the time, they had been participating in a live radio programme when a body was allegedly dumped near their the place where they were residing during a by-election. Despite the fabricated charges, the two leaders remained resilient.

President Hichilema went on to reflect on Sejani’s long-standing commitment to democracy, dating back to Zambia’s one-party state era. He noted that Mr. Sejani was among the freedom fighters advocating for multi-party democracy and was part of the generation that challenged the status quo in the early 1990s.

Elected as Member of Parliament for Mapatizya Constituency in 1991, Mr. Sejani went on to serve in Cabinet under President Frederick Chiluba, alongside leaders such as General Christon Tembo and General Godfrey Miyanda. President Hichilema highlighted Sejani’s role in opposing the controversial third-term bid by President Chiluba, a stance that led to the formation of opposition parties like the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) and the Heritage Party.

“He and others worked hard to deliver over 90 per cent of the votes under President Chiluba’s government to signify our One Zambia,  One Nation, and yet he remained humble and dedicated to the people,” President Hichilema said.

The President also remembered the late UPND founding President Anderson Kambela Mazoka, who died in March 2006 ahead of that year’s general elections. He recalled how Mr. Sejani had contested again in Mapatizya and won as Member of Parliament. Despite his popularity, Mr. Sejani chose not to seek re-election in 2011, demonstrating what President Hichilema called “a mark of selflessness.”

“He was a true democrat, a perfectionist who believed in building others. In 2021, we again selected Clive Muyenga together, a sign of the confidence we had in Mr. Sejani’s judgment,” he added.

President Hichilema also praised Mr. Sejani’s role in guiding UPND Members of Parliament during a controversial constitutional review process while the party was still in opposition. He recalled how Mr. Sejani provided direction and helped clarify the party’s position publicly when questions arose about their participation.

In his closing remarks, President Hichilema offered heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, urging them to remain strong during this difficult period. He described Sejani as a pillar not only in politics but also in his family and community.

The President then led mourners in singing a hymn, creating a solemn and unified moment of reflection in honour of the late statesman.

police officer gun down his ex-girlfriend and her friend before committing su!cide

Two friends, Lisakhanya Labi, 21, and Monalisa Ojoni, 20, who were shot d3ad by a police officer have been laid to rest last weekend in South Africa.

The off-duty police officer Godfrey Tholane Seleke, 31, shot and k!lled his ex-girlfriend Lisakhanya and her friend before taking his own life in what authorities are calling a domestic dispute turned d3adly.

Advocacy group, Women For Change, in a statement on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 said the incident occurred in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape

On the evening of July 18, 2025, Seleke arrived at the residence of his ex-girlfriend in Central.

Witnesses reported that Seleke, who had been struggling to accept the end of their relationship, opened fire, k!lling Labi and Ojoni on the spot.

He then turned the gun on himself, dying shortly afterward from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The brutal incident sent shockwaves through the Bay, with residents expressing anger, fear, and disbelief that a law enforcement officer could commit such a heinous act.

Community leader Thando Mbeki stated, “This is a betrayal of the worst kind. We demand accountability and urgent reforms to prevent such tragedies from happening again.”

Authorities confirmed that Seleke and Labi had been in a relationship, which she recently ended.

Witnesses revealed that Seleke had grown increasingly possessive and emotionally unstable, refusing to accept the breakup. Despite his erratic behavior, no formal complaints had been filed against him before the shooting.

Colleagues described him as having been “volatile” in recent weeks, raising concerns about whether warning signs were overlooked. The fact that he used his service weapon in the attack has intensified scrutiny over firearm control within the police force.

Domestic violence experts warn that this case is not an isolated incident but part of South Africa’s ongoing epidemic of gender-based violence (GBV).

Donald Trump’s idea to have tourists post bonds for their visit to the United States received sharp criticism

President Donald Trump’s idea to have tourists post bonds for their visit to the United States received sharp criticism from an analyst on Tuesday.

Trump’s idea would require visa applicants to post a bond between $5,000 and $15,000 as part of their application. Tourists from countries with “high overstay rates” would be required to pay more than tourists from wealthier European countries, The Associated Press reported.

Zeeshan Aleem, an opinion writer for MSNBC Daily, wrote in a new op-ed that the idea would be a “loss for potential visitors and the U.S.”

ALSO READ: ‘Terrorized’ Republicans fume to Dem about ‘stupid damage’ done by Trump

“It’s a terrible idea that could further accelerate the already sharp decline in tourism to the U.S.— and hurt an economy showing warning signs of a potential recession,” Aleem wrote.

Trump’s policies have been a major factor in the decline of tourism in the United States, according to multiple reports. Forbes estimates that the United States will lose up to $29 billion in revenue from lost tourism. America was also the only country to have a decline in international travelers year-over-year, Forbes reported.

As Aleem noted, Trump’s visa bond idea could further disincentivize people from traveling to the United States.

“Even if one gets the money back upon departure, the bond amount is likely to be prohibitive for huge shares of the people who come from countries that tend to skew low-income,” he wrote. “Rather than find a way to come up with the money, some will undoubtedly be discouraged and opt to travel elsewhere.”

Epstein accuser blasts Trump DOJ in new court letter

On Tuesday, a Jeffrey Epstein accuser issued a letter to the court supporting the release of the Epstein grand jury documents.

The letter sent to Judges Richard Berman and Paul Engelmayer from Annie Farmer’s lawyer cites the government claim that there are “over one thousand victims” who suffered under the abuse of Epstein and accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell.

“To date, however, the combined forces of our country’s law enforcement agencies have only ever arrested these two individuals in connection with crimes committed against countless young women and girls, and the Government’s recent suggestion that no further criminal investigations are forthcoming is a cowardly abdication of its duties to protect and serve,” the letter says.

Farmer and her sister were first recruited by Maxwell, with Farmer testifying against Maxwell in the trial. According to the accusations, Maxwell fondled her breasts when she was 16 years old while at the Zorro Ranch in New Mexico. At the time, Epstein was dreaming of turning the ranch into a place to breed children, the New York Times reported in 2019.

The letter from the lawyers also says in a footnote, ” Epstein escaped justice through his apparent suicide, and Maxwell is now, to the victims’ horror, herself attempting to escape justice by negotiating for herself a potential pardon.”

“Transparency is critical to justice, and the public has a legitimate interest in understanding the full scope of Epstein’s and Maxwell’s crimes, particularly where those actions caused lasting harm to others,” said Farmer’s lawyer. “While it was not the victims’ decision to seek disclosure of the grand jury transcripts alone (as opposed to the much larger volume of information available in the ‘more than 300 gigabytes of data and physical evidence’ in the Government’s possession that should be disclosed as well), the instant motion for unsealing will help expose the magnitude and abhorrence of Epstein’s and Maxwell’s crimes.”

Farmer’s name adds to the list of Epstein and Maxwell survivors, holding the line and demanding accountability. Top officials in the Trump administration spent years advocating that the documents from the Epstein investigations be released to the public.

Fivio Foreign has reportedly been released from jail after spending 196 days behind bars

Fivio Foreign received a time served and probation sentence following his January arrest for pulling a gun on a woman in New Jersey.
Fivio Foreign has release a few 2025 tracks such as “HELLO” with Kota The Friend, but most of his year took place behind bars. He went to prison in January for an alleged altercation in New Jersey on New Year’s Day in which he allegedly threatened a woman with a gun over a parking dispute.

But according to TMZ and The Shade Room on Instagram, the New York rapper left jail on August 1. He received a time served and three-year probation sentence after 196 days of incarceration.

Fivio Foreign’s lawyer Adam Lustberg revealed news of this January 18 arrest on five charges back in March. The charges included unlawful possession of a weapon, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and two more charges.

However, Fivio Foreign’s guilty plea to third-degree terroristic threats allowed him to avoid the aggravated assault and gun possession charges. As such, this lined up with what Lustberg already expected with this case. But we’ll see if Fivio says anything else about it or if this storyline dies down. It hasn’t stopped him from dropping music, so we’ll see if more releases follow soon.

Before this legal trouble emerged, fans had more to say about Fivio Foreign’s streamer beefs than anything else. You may remember a conflict with PlaqueBoyMax which stemmed from a livestream in which Max asked the Brooklyn drill MC and Lil Tjay to not smoke in the Airbnb.

Diss tracks, social media callouts, and a whole lot of unnecessary drama and debate followed. But like many other Internet narratives, it didn’t take long to die down. Needless to say, we don’t expect Fivio to collaborate with another streamer anytime soon.

At least this conviction is behind him now and he can return to his career in full. While we don’t have any news about a future project or other next moves, that could change very quickly.

Meanwhile, we will see if there’s anything left over from this legal situation to address or if Fivio Foreign can fully put it behind him. Probation can be tough to deal with, but this is still a win for him given the circumstances.

Manchester United lift Premier League Summer Series 2025 trophy

Manchester United have been crowned champions of the Premier League Summer Series 2025, wrapping up their U.S. pre-season tour unbeaten with two wins and a draw.

The triumph also marks Rúben Amorim’s first trophy since taking charge at Old Trafford on November 2024.

The Red Devils secured the title with seven points from three matches, edging ahead of West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton in the friendly tournament.

United’s campaign began with a hard fought 2–1 victory over West Ham in New Jersey, where Bruno Fernandes netted twice and new signing Matheus Cunha impressed with sharp link-up play.

They followed up with another win against Bournemouth before facing Everton in the deciding match at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

In that final fixture, Fernandes struck again from the penalty spot and Mason Mount added a goal but Everton fought back through Iliman Ndiaye and a freak own goal from Amad Diallo. The 2–2 draw was enough to seal the title for United.

The series also gave fans a glimpse of Amorim’s evolving squad. New arrivals Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo added attacking spark while Fernandes continued to drive the team forward though his competitive edge boiled over against Everton where he clashed with Ndiaye and publicly criticised teammates for what he called “lazy” play.

Despite the silverware, concerns remain over defensive stability with errors from Manuel Ugarte and Diallo exposing vulnerabilities that opponents could exploit in the upcoming season.

The 2025 Premier League Summer Series, held across major U.S. stadiums including MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, Soldier Field in Chicago and Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, drew large crowds and reinforced the league’s growing presence in North America.

Manchester United will now complete pre-season with a friendly against Fiorentina before opening their Premier League campaign away to Arsenal on August 17.

Drake reveals he used to hate his birthmark until he learned that Gracie Abrams has one too

Megastars like Drake are still human and he’s got insecurities and he’s learning to embrace them just like the rest of the world.
Is Drake indirectly trying to shoot his shot at Gracie Abrams? Or is this him trying to manifest a future collaboration together? Those are the gossipy questions that we are asking following The Boy’s recent post to his Instagram Story. As caught by Billboard and Pop Base, he shared a selfie of the pop singer for one reason in particular.

If you take a look at the picture, Gracie has a birthmark on her left (our right) arm. Then, Drizzy put a photo of himself next to hers to show that he happens to have the same irregularity practically in the same spot as her. Only difference is his is on his right arm.

Apparently, the Toronto native has been wildly insecure about it for a long time. But knowing that the “That’s So True” songwriter happens to have one and in an identical area is comforting to him. So much so actually that Drake sees it as “art.”

He captioned the IG Story post writing, “I used to hate my birthmark but Gracie got the same one so now its art.” Overall, this seems quite innocent. However, this isn’t the only time that Drake has made a post specifically towards the daughter of famed director J. J. Abrams.

https://twitter.com/PopBase/status/1899617804942500168?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1899617804942500168%7Ctwgr%5Ed88903234905a26ac573b980de0b3120cdb91596%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fd-11359483962941986830.ampproject.net%2F2507172035000%2Fframe.html

Just back in March of this year, Drake shouted out the Los Angeles native for her song, “I Knew It, I Know You,” off of her popular LP, The Secret of Us. He applauded the production and the track’s back half via an IG Story again.

“[goat emoji]’d beat switch on this. Second half is [pleading face emoji, exploding head emoji, light blue heart emoji].” With now two pretty out-of-nowhere posts dedicated to Gracie, folks online are wondering what Drake’s motive is.

“Whys drake obsessed with gracie,” “Now why is drake posting gracie abrams…” are generally what X users were asking. However, some are also clowning him for the teenager energy he’s giving off. “This is so [loudly crying face emojis],” one person writes. “LOL what are they, 15 year olds?” another quips.

In other Drake news, he’s currently locked in on finishing up his next album, ICEMAN. He’s put out two singles in “What Did I Miss?” and “Which One” featuring Central Cee in the last few weeks. The hitmaker did say it was arriving in 2025, but we are still awaiting a release date.

Producer Conductor Williams, who worked on some cuts For All The Dogs, revealed that he’s got more songs in the tuck. “Yeah, there’s more. There’s more. I don’t know if y’all are ever going to hear it. laughs But there’s more.” He was asked by Bootleg Kev if he would be contributing to ICEMAN, but it sounded like he wasn’t aware of the LP being in development, so we will see.

Dangote’s Game Changing Impact on African Energy

The African Energy Chamber and S&P Global Commodity Insights will host a critical workshop at African Energy Week 2025: Invest in African Energies examining how the Dangote Refinery is reshaping West Africa’s refining landscape, regional supply dynamics and crude demand

CAPE TOWN, South Africa, July 24, 2025/ — The historic commencement of operations at the 650,000 barrels-per-day Dangote Refinery has redefined Africa’s refining ambitions, establishing a new epicenter for oil product supply across West Africa and beyond. As the continent’s largest single-train refinery – and one of the most technologically advanced globally – Dangote represents a turning point for African energy self-sufficiency, reducing import dependence and reshaping traditional trade flows within the Atlantic Basin.

Already, the refinery has begun exporting refined products, with early shipments pointing to a diversification of destinations – from regional African markets to Europe and Asia. These developments are ushering in a new era for crude and product flows, as well as domestic monetization strategies. The facility’s ability to process a slate of Nigerian and other light sweet crudes is having far-reaching implications not only for Nigeria’s upstream sector but for oil producers across the Gulf of Guinea, potentially prompting shifts in production plans, infrastructure investment and regional trade dynamics.

As Africa’s premier energy event returns to Cape Town, African Energy Week (AEW) 2025: Invest in African Energies will place a critical spotlight on West Africa’s evolving refining landscape with a dedicated workshop on the “The Dangote Refinery and its Impact on the African Refining Balance.” Hosted by the African Energy Chamber (AEC) and S&P Global Commodity Insights, the session will take place on Monday, September 29 from 11:30 to 12:30, drawing key industry stakeholders and policy leaders into a dynamic discussion on one of the most transformational projects in the continent’s oil and gas sector.

Beyond reshaping crude and product markets, the refinery is also impacting fuel quality and environmental standards in the region. Dangote’s state-of-the-art configuration allows it to produce Euro V standard fuels, a major step forward for countries long reliant on lower-quality imports. This creates new opportunities for West African governments to strengthen fuel specifications, improve urban air quality and reduce exposure to volatile global supply chains.

The workshop will also explore the broader impact of Dangote on Africa’s existing refining infrastructure. With aging, underutilized refineries scattered across the continent, the rise of a mega refinery capable of meeting domestic and regional demand poses significant questions for legacy plants. Will they modernize, reposition themselves to serve niche needs or shut down entirely in the face of more efficient competition? The discussion will address the strategic responses by national oil companies and private operators as they navigate this new refining era.

“AEW 2025 continues to serve as the continent’s definitive platform for energy dialogue, investment and innovation, with the Dangote workshop exemplifying the type of forward-looking conversations shaping the future of African energy. As West Africa’s refining ambitions begin to bear fruit – and as the continent seeks to capture more value across its energy value chain – the implications for energy security, trade and industrial development are profound,” says NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman, African Energy Chamber.

Jay‑Z’s nephew seemingly mocks the man who is claiming to be Jay‑Z’s alleged secret son

A man named Rymir Satterthwaite has been begging Jay-Z to take a paternity test for years, alleging that he’s his illegitimate son.
Jay-Z has been in a legal battle with a man named Rymir Satterthwaite for years. Satterthwaite alleges that he’s the mogul’s illegitimate son and has been begging him to take a paternity test to prove whether or not this is the case. He even filed a lawsuit against him earlier this year, alleging that he’s been trying to silence him.

According to Satterthwaite, his mother Wanda allegedly had a brief relationship with Jay-Z in the 90s when he was conceived. In his lawsuit, he alleges that ever since, the Roc Nation founder has made “unrelenting efforts… To suppress the truth and silence those who dared to speak it.”

Jay-Z continues to vehemently deny the allegations, firing back at the lawsuit in a motion to dismiss last month. “The fabricated allegations and claims have been addressed – and rejected – in multiple other courts,” his attorneys wrote. “And continued harassment and disregard of those orders has already resulted in a contempt order.”

Satterthwaite dropped his lawsuit for unknown reasons a few weeks ago, but he doesn’t plan on backing down. “I have not stopped my fight, I did withdraw my case, but it’s for a reason,” he announced on social media shortly after withdrawing the case. “I have not gotten a settlement. It is not over.”

Recently, Jay-Z’s nephew Rel took to his Instagram Story to throw what appears to be shade Satterthwaite’s way. “Never seen a n***a who want somebody to be his daddy so bad [laughing emojis],” he wrote simply, as captured by Live Bitez on Instagram.

Commenters have mixed reactions to the post. While some see where the family is coming from, others think Jay-Z should just take paternity test once and for all. “It’s crazy that he won’t just take the test. It’s even crazier that the law isn’t making him take it,” one writes. “It was all about money,” someone else alleges.

Chinese Businesswoman Arrested in Harare After Illegally Transferring US$880K to China without Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Approval

Chinese Businesswoman Arrested in Harare After Illegally Transferring US$880K to China without RBZ Approval

A 52-year-old Chinese national, Sun Limin, has been arrested in Harare over illegal financial transfers amounting to US$880,000.

She was picked up by authorities on July 31, 2025, at her business premises located at 19 Basma, Graniteside.

Sun is accused of violating Zimbabwe’s Exchange Control Act [Chapter 22:05] by allegedly transferring large sums of money to China between January and July 2025 without obtaining approval from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ).

Suspected Concealment of Proceeds of Crime
According to National Prosecuting Authority, in addition to exchange control violations, Sun Limin is also facing charges under the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act [Chapter 9:24].

Authorities allege that she concealed the true nature and source of the funds, which are suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Investigations have so far revealed:

Bills of entry for goods imported from China via Forbes Border Post
Witness statements from clearing agents
Documents confirming suspicious transactions
Bail Conditions Imposed
Sun Limin was granted US$500 bail with strict conditions:

She must surrender her passport
Report to the police every Friday
Avoid any contact with witnesses involved in the case
The case is expected to proceed through the courts in the coming weeks as authorities continue to build their case.

Crackdown on Cross-Border Financial Crime
Sun Limin’s arrest comes amid intensified efforts by Zimbabwean authorities to curb illicit capital flight and money laundering.

The government has increased scrutiny of cross-border transactions, especially in sectors prone to abuse of exchange control regulations.

British Engineer Who Lost Hard Drive with 8,000 Bitcoin Now Worth $915M Ends 12-Year Landfill Search, Shifts to Token Strategy

British Engineer Who Lost Hard Drive with 8,000 Bitcoin Now Worth $915M Ends 12-Year Landfill Search, Shifts to Token Strategy

James Howells, the British IT engineer known for his decade-long search for a hard drive containing 8,000 Bitcoin, has dismissed reports claiming he has ended his efforts to recover the cryptocurrency—now worth around $915 million at current prices.

Howells made headlines back in 2013 after accidentally discarding the hard drive, which was later buried in a landfill in Newport, Wales. Since then, he has made multiple efforts to excavate the site but has consistently been denied permission by the Newport City Council.

“I Have Not Given Up,” Says Howells
Responding to viral social media claims that he had abandoned his search, Howells told The Block via direct message on X (formerly Twitter),

“No, I have not ‘given up.’ The story going around is partially true, but not in the way it’s being framed.”

He clarified that while he is no longer pursuing the purchase or excavation of the Newport landfill, this does not mean he has given up on reclaiming the value of the Bitcoin stored on the missing hard drive.

Multi-Million Dollar Offer Ignored by Council
Howells revealed that on July 1, 2025, he made a formal offer valued between $33 million and $40 million to acquire and remediate the landfill.

The offer was submitted to Newport City Council’s leader, legal team, and a local MP — but has received no response.

“If they won’t sell, there’s no need for a token sale to buy the landfill.
I am no longer pursuing the purchase of the landfill, I am no longer pursuing excavation or remediation, I am no longer pursuing dialogue with the council.”

Pivot to Tokenization with Ceiniog Coin
Despite the roadblocks, Howells is shifting his strategy. Rather than physically recovering the hard drive, he now plans to tokenize his legal ownership of the 8,000 BTC.

The upcoming project is called Ceiniog Coin (INI) — a Bitcoin Layer 2 smart token designed for fast, scalable, Web3 payments.

Howells explained that the token will be launched after October, utilizing a Bitcoin protocol update that expands data capacity via the removal of the 80-byte cap on the OP_RETURN opcode. An Initial Coin Offering (ICO) is planned later in the year.

“The intention is to bootstrap the Ceiniog ecosystem and launch a successful high-speed, high-scale, fast-confirmation, payment-focused Web3 environment secured by the Bitcoin blockchain and backed by 8,000 BTC,” said Howells.

Still the Legal Owner of the Bitcoin
Although the physical drive is unrecovered, Howells maintains that he is the legal owner of the 8,000 BTC, citing a High Court ruling from January 2025.

“The Council may own the hard drive, but they do not own the digital contents of that hard drive.
The 8,000 Bitcoin are legally mine in law — the balance of which can be verified by anyone worldwide at any time,” Howells emphasized.

Lamine Yamal’s mural vandalised with brutal dwarf slur after his controversial 18th birthday party

A mural dedicated to Lamine Yamal has been defaced in Barcelona, with references made to dwarfism.

The mural, which was designed by Plaza Joanic, was unveiled last month to celebrate Yamal’s 18th birthday. Yamal is portrayed as Superman, with an ‘L’ on his chest as opposed to an ‘S’.

There were initially concerns that the mural had been damaged, but it emerged that they were AI-generated.

Last month images emerged of the dwarves and scantily-clad women who were reportedly paid to attend Yamal’s 18th birthday party.

Yamal has received much criticism for the party, which allegedly ‘exploited dwarves’, while women with ‘specific breast measurements’ were ‘paid to attend’.

One image showed a group of five men with Achondroplasia appearing to be registered for the party.

Another image showed women passing through the checkpoint.

Yamal turned 18 on July 13, with around 200 people attending the event, including friends, family, and team-mates.

Speaking last month, Jesus Martin, the General Director of Disability in the government, called for ministers to approve an investigation.

Martin told Marca: ‘We are concerned that people with money, people with power, believe themselves to be unpunished. The law is for everyone, for the humble and for the powerful.’ Martin also expressed his fear that this kind of party could impact impressionable young fans who look up to Yamal and copy his behaviour.’

The party took place at a private estate and a Mafia-style theme.

Spanish model, Calvo, who was Miss Teenager Spain 2021 and Miss Teenager Europe 2022, claimed she was asked to attend the event.

Calvo alleged that organisers were seeking to hire 12 blonde women with specific breast sizes to attend the celebration.

She claimed the women would have been paid up to 20,000 euros, but would need to be available for 24 hours, with the location of the event not disclosed to them.

Calvo claimed she had backed out of the event after receiving the list of demands.

‘I have screenshots of everything, the conversations, they told me that the fee would be a certain amount between 10,000 and 20,000 euros,’ Calvo told Tardear TV.

‘But the truth is that you don’t really know what you’re getting into, because they don’t tell you what they really expect from you beyond “having a good time” at the party.

‘They asked for blonde girls with a certain breast size,’ Calvo claimed, adding organisers were looking for ‘models or escorts’.

‘Top clubs snubbed Victor Osimhen due to his character’ – Gary Lineker

0

Former England and Barcelona striker Gary Lineker has claimed that several top European clubs backed out of signing Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen due to concerns about his character.

Before sealing a €75 million move to Turkish giants, Osimhen was one of the most in-demand strikers in world football. Premier League sides like Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Ligue 1 powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain were reportedly interested in securing his signature.

However, speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker suggested that Osimhen’s off-field behavior may have raised red flags for some clubs.

“I saw Osimhen play a couple of times against Leicester in the Europa League,” said Lineker. “He was so impressive, and I’ve followed his career since then. He was absolutely brilliant for Napoli — sensational, really.”

“But I hear through the grapevine that some clubs are a bit nervous because he sometimes goes missing for a few days. So apparently, there are slight concerns about his character in that regard.”

According to these reports, that perceived issue—rather than lack of talent may have discouraged some Premier League clubs from pursuing him in the summer 2025 transfer window.
