INSIDE THE EDGAR LUNGU’S FAMILY  – QUESTIONS THEY ARE ASKING THAT TRIGGERED A HARD DECISION

By KBN TV

EDITORIAL INSIGHT – INSIDE THE ECL’S FAMILY  – QUESTIONS THEY ARE ASKING THAT TRIGGERED A HARD DECISION

As the plane was getting ready to repatriate the remains of the former Head of State Edgar Chagwa Lungu and the South African Defence Forces were on hand to perform full military honours, the nation was shattered by the unexpected news that the family won’t bring the body today because “Government had subverted the funeral agreement.”

A few phone calls reveals the rationale that informed the Lungu family to make such a hard decision at such a crucial moment.

The family claims they are disturbed with information that only 20 slots have been reserved for family members to be accredited to access the airport grounds.

They’re asking if family members, his friends, close associates and party supporters won’t be at the airport to receive the remains, then who will do the honours?

The discomfort has been heightened when compared to similar past events involving the home coming of the remains for the late Levy Mwanawasa, Michael Sata, Chipolopolo fallen heroes of 1993, whose remains were received at the airport by multitudes without any restrictions regarding access to the airport.

This departure from the norm has troubled the family.

Then came the most difficult detail sneaked into the official programme for the body to be taken to a designated area within the airport for a Church service!

This was eye popping, Church service at the airport? Who is the presiding Bishop? who will be in attendance? what format will the this Church service take?

These are the questions running in the minds of family members who have not been availed with any such detail or consulted about the same.

The family still stands by its demand for President Hakainde Hichilema to take a low profile, but were taken aback after the released official programme indicated he would be the first to do body viewing.

They claim Government never consulted or involved them in drafting the final funeral programme.

Another concern with family members is that as at 18:00hrs last evening, no one from Cabinet office had been to the Chifwema funeral house to debrief the mourners about funeral arrangements except service men who were deployed to prepare the site.

Inside the UPND, this development is being seen as a serious snub that has embarrassed the Government with some party loyalists urging authorities to effect a mass crackdown on ECL family members and PF party sympathisers.

Family of Former President Edgar Lungu Halts Return of Remains Amid Dispute with Government

South Africa, June 18, 2025

The family of the late former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has announced the decision to halt the return of his remains to the family home, citing growing tensions and breaches of prior agreements with the government regarding funeral arrangements.

Family spokesperson Makebi Zulu told the public today that while initial discussions with government officials had resulted in a joint agreement on the handling of the late President’s burial, the family has since observed several actions that undermined that agreement.

Chief among the concerns is the unilateral announcement by the Road Development Agency (RDA) on June 16 regarding roadworks on the key route from Crossroads to Chifwema a road designated for the state funeral procession. The family contends that this was done without consultation and directly contradicted the agreed-upon funeral programme.

Further issues arose on June 17 when the Secretary to the Cabinet issued a public statement limiting public participation in the reception of the President’s remains, again without consulting the family. According to Mr. Zulu, the family was denied the opportunity to determine or invite attendees for this critical moment.

Additionally, a programme was released suggesting that upon arrival at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, the late President’s body would be transported directly to a church service and subsequently to the Mulungushi International Conference Centre. This plan, too, had not been agreed upon by the family.

Mr. Zulu said despite raising these concerns with the Secretary to the Cabinet who acknowledged some errors; further publications of similar programmes continued to appear.

“For this reason and many more, the family find it very difficult to believe that the government would stick to their end of the agreement and have resolved, sadly so, that the mortal remains of President Edgar Lungu would not return home today.”

The family expressed hope that in the future, the late President’s remains will be brought home and laid to rest in a manner that respects both family wishes and national dignity.

“It is our hope that someday his remains will be recalculated back home and buried”

Given Lubinda’s National Mourning Declaration: A Political Overstep or Mere Party Tribute?

Given Lubinda’s National Mourning Declaration: A Political Overstep or Mere Party Tribute?

By ; Tobbius Chilembo Hamunkoyo – LLB, Author, Scientist, Political and Governance Activist

The recent declaration of seven days of national mourning by Hon. Given Lubinda, the purported Acting President of the Patriotic Front (PF), sparked a national debate about the constitutional and legal limits of political leadership after the death of our Former Head of state Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

Was it a heartfelt tribute to the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, or a calculated political overreach during a moment of national grief?

Who Has the Authority to Declare National Mourning?

According to the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act No. 2 of 2016, and established state practice, the exclusive power to declare a national mourning period lies with the Republican President- currently His Excellency Mr. Hakainde Hichilema.

https://youtu.be/ukvFxkO8Wyg?si=LCMkdH9GaOh3nxTc

This responsibility is usually carried out through a statutory instrument (SI), announced by the Secretary to the Cabinet, in this case Mr Patrick Kangwa and executed through government channels.

Therefore, any declaration of national mourning outside this framework, especially by an opposition leader, raises serious constitutional questions, breaches and Violations.

Context Behind Lubinda’s Declaration

Hon. Given Lubinda made his declaration following the passing of former Republican President Edgar Chagwa Lungu on 5th June 2025.

In a widely viewed Facebook live broadcast, Lubinda called for a seven-day mourning period among PF members and sympathizers, to be observed at designated party venues nationwide while at PF secretariat in Lusaka. He further suggested that the nation should prepare for “another official funeral,” creating confusion about the distinction between party-organized commemorations and the state-led mourning process, very disappointing.

Blurring the Line Between Party and State

Political parties in Zambia have the freedom to organize internal commemorations for their leaders. However, the declaration of national mourning is a sovereign act- one that symbolizes state recognition and binds all government institutions and citizens.

By framing his party mourning directive as a national event, Lubinda may have blurred the line between political loyalty and constitutional authority.

It is true that most critics argue that this not only undermines the dignity of state protocols but could also amount to an attempt to politically reposition himself as a national figure during a highly emotional and sensitive time.

Legal and Constitutional Concerns

Several potential legal implications arise from Given Lubinda’s actions;

1. Usurpation of Executive Functions

Under Article 92 of the Constitution, executive powers- including the declaration of national mourning—reside solely in the office of the President.

Given Lubinda’s pronouncement may be viewed as an attempt to exercise presidential functions without lawful authority, potentially violating constitutional separation of powers.

2. Violation of the Public Order Act (Chapter 113, Laws of Zambia)

The Public Order Act governs public gatherings and national announcements that can affect public conduct. If Given Lubinda’s statement led to uncoordinated or unauthorized gatherings, the government may argue that he violated public order regulations- especially if his actions caused disruption or confusion.

3. Political Misrepresentation or Abuse of Office

While not criminal in itself, issuing a public directive with national implications- when one holds no government office—may constitute political misconduct. Lubinda may be perceived to have misrepresented his capacity, raising questions about abuse of political influence or manipulation of public sentiment.

4. Publication of False or Misleading Information

If Lubinda implied that his declaration had official backing or government support, it could fall under the ambit of spreading false information, which is punishable under certain statutes including the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act No. 2 of 2021 ,CAP 87 of the Laws of zambia section 67, depending on how the statements were presented and received.

5. Incitement to Public Disorder (if proven)

If the state believes that Given Lubinda’s remarks had the potential to incite unrest or undermine the government’s authority, they could invoke security-related laws, including sections under the Penal Code Act that deal with incitement or subversion. Although this would be an extreme position, the political climate could influence how the matter is handled.

Public Reaction and Social Media Commentary

Lubinda’s declaration was met with widespread skepticism on social media. Many Zambians questioned his authority, with remarks such as;

“You are not in power; you cannot declare even a single day of national mourning.”

“You are not the Republican President, Secretary to the Cabinet, nor a Minister .”

“This is not a PF funeral; it is a national matter.”Edgar Chagwa Lungu was a president for all Zambians and not for the political party only.

These public reactions illustrated constitutional awareness among citizens, who increasingly demand that political figures operate within the bounds of their authority.

A Risky Political Move?

Given Lubinda’s legal history, including previously facing but being acquitted of corruption charges in 2024- his recent actions may invite increased scrutiny from both the public and state institutions. Some analysts argue that his move was a calculated attempt to project leadership and revive the PF’s national image, especially amid internal factional disputes.

The Government’s Response and Protocol Compliance

President Hakainde Hichilema and the Government of the Republic of Zambia have since announced an official period of national mourning, with state-sanctioned tributes and a planned state funeral program.

These proceedings are and will be governed by the Cabinet Office (Funeral Guidelines) and follow long-established practices observed during the passing of former presidents.

Given Lubinda’s parallel directive, though perhaps emotionally driven—risked undermining national unity and state coordination, at a time when the country needed collective mourning and healing.

While political figures and parties may wish to honor their leaders, they must do so within the legal and constitutional framework of the Republic of Zambia.

People should know that the declaration of national mourning is not merely symbolic, it is a sovereign act of state authority.

Given Lubinda’s actions, though likely driven by genuine grief and party loyalty, raise serious legal, ethical, and political questions which I am sure should be reviewed and investigated after the funeral.

Going forward, Zambia must continue to uphold the rule of law and ensure that political expression does not erode constitutional order, especially in times of national sorrow, very important.

FRED M’membe
Age:66 years
Profession: Journalist I Lawyer I Economist I Accountant

Fred M’membe is a leader of the Socialist Party Zambia. He is the most educated President of a political party in Zambia today.

He entered active politics in 2018. Before politics, M’membe was Editor-in- Chief of now defunct Post Newspapers, which was closed prior to 2016 General Elections. The Post heavily campaigned against Edgar Lungu and the Patriotic Front but endorsed UPND led by Hakainde Hichilema.

In his editorial comments , M’membe called Edgar Lungu a corrupt leader runningthe most corrupt administration. This led to bad blood between the two. It must be pointed out that a very long time ago, Edgar Lungu was a lawyer for Fred M’membe. So the two knew each other from way back.

After closure of The Post Newspapers on allegations that it was not paying taxes but busy financing political activities of Rainbow Party, M’membe was linked to another Newspaper , The Mast, which continued to hit Edgar Lungu administration.

In 2018, M’membe announced the formation of Socialist Party. His one-time friend Wynter Kabimba remained alone in Rainbow Party and stated publicly that he differed with M’membe because of the latter’s inclination to some funders he was against with on principle.

Kabimba alleged that M’membe wanted LGBTQ proponents to fund the party. He further stated that the LGBTQ funds Socialist Party. Fred M’membe took Kabimba to court but he lost the case to the Rainbow Party, now Economic Front President.

However, Socialist Party is currently among the noticeable, well organised, and properly funded political parties in Zambia. Although its performance in the 2021 General elections was poor, its campaign was robust.

Today, Fred M’membe faces a number of criminal charges before court. It is believed the current administration is hell bent on having M’membe convicted to rule him out on the Presidential ballot in 2026. A renowned writer Dr. Sishuwa Sishuwa has said that Hakainde Hichilema fears M’membe, and his administration will jail the Socialist Party soonest before 2026 elections. This means, if M’membe is successfully picked as Presidential candidate, whichever Party picks him will lose not participating in elections.

Meanwhile, in between 2021 to-date M’membe some how found himself in “good terms” with the PF, the party he heavily criticized and which some believe, he helped destroy. His party is now part of the Tonse Alliance, a consortium of opposition political parties.

Prior to joining Tonse Alliance, M’membe denounced alliances in Zambia and specifically said there was no where PF , United Kwacha Alliance, and Tonse Alliance were headed to urging voters to supporthim and his party. This was said in Petauke during the Parliamentary by-elections. He only made a 360 uturn and joined Tonse Alliance recently. Few weeks ago, Socialist Party senior officials were captured in an audio discussing the health of late Tonse Alliance Chairman Edgar Lungu in which he was nicknamed ba ‘Johannesburg’.

In the audio that went viral on social media, was Akende M’membe, the daughter to the Socialist Party leader and another official, the National Youth Chairman Kelvin Kaunda. The duo discussed taking over Tonse Alliance Chairmanship now that ECL was on sick bed.

Surprisingly, Socialist Party has remained mute on this particular issue, so has the PF leadership. What is now strange is that of late, PF Acting President Given Lubinda and Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda have been seen in company of Fred M’membe.

This has fueled debate that the two approves the language Akende M’membe and Kaunda used when discussing ECL’s health condition as the former President was battling for his life. From sources within PF, Fred M’membe has the backing of both Given Lubinda and Raphael Nakacinda to take over from Edgar Chagwa Lungu and become the Tonse Alliance 2026 Presidential candidate.-The Candidates

WHY THE AIRPORT LOCKDOWN NOW?

WHY THE AIRPORT LOCKDOWN NOW?

By Nachilima Cleopatra Chisala

When did Kenneth Kaunda International Airport stop being the people’s ground and start becoming a no-go zone for the very people it represents?

This isn’t just a patch of tarmac. KKIA—once Lusaka International—has been the beating heart of Zambia’s most defining moments. It’s where the nation grieved, celebrated, and stood together.

Nobody needed an access pass when:

1. Levy Mwanawasa’s body came home.

2. Michael Sata’s casket touched Zambian soil.

3. The fallen Chipolopolo heroes of 1993 were received with national heartbreak.

4. The Silver Medalists of 1994 were welcomed with pride.

5. The 2012 AFCON Champions returned to thunderous unity.

6. Nelson Mandela landed in 1990, and Zambia stood tall.

7. Anderson Kambela Mazoka’s remains returned in May 2006—and the gates were open to everyone.

So again, we ask:
What changed? Who changed it? And for whose benefit?

Since when did mourning become an invitation-only affair?
Since when did national moments become exclusive events guarded from the very nation?

Let’s not pretend this is normal. It’s not. It’s a worrying trend of exclusion—a quiet sidelining of ordinary Zambians from their own story.

And while the President and key institutions have called for a peaceful mourning period, let’s be brutally honest:
Peace isn’t a PR slogan. Peace is a promise. A two-way street.

That peace—if it is to be real—can only be sustained when all stakeholders live up to their word. The communiqu

NEW DAWN GOVERNMENT TAKES DECISIVE ACTION TO REVAMP UNZA INFRASTRUCTURE AFTER TOUR

June 17, 2025

Lusaka – The New Dawn Government has taken a bold step toward revamping the University of Zambia (UNZA) by reaffirming its commitment to resolving the institution’s deteriorating infrastructure and critical accommodation crisis.

This morning, Minister of Education Mr. Douglas Siakalima and Minister of Local Government Mr. Gift Simunza Sialubalo conducted a comprehensive site visit of the institution’s key facilities.

The tour included old residence hostels, car parks, the School of Education’s ablution and teaching facilities, the University Library’s special collections, the School of Natural and Applied Sciences’ laboratories, and the incomplete Cojour hostels, among others.

The ministers acknowledged the challenges and pledged to escalate the matter to Cabinet.

“UNZA has produced four presidents; it deserves better,” said Mr. Sialubalo. “Seeing is believing. We have seen, and we have taken note.”

Mr. Siakalima emphasized the urgency of restoring laboratory facilities. “That’s where engineers are born. We must start correcting this legacy problem now,” he said. He added, “More hostels must be built as soon as possible to meet the growing student population.”

UNZA Resident Engineer Kelvin Zulu highlighted critical issues such as poor lighting, leaking roofs, and broken water systems.

“The incomplete Cojour hostels have stood idle for years. Completing them will ease the current bed space crisis,” he noted.

UNZA Student President Dickson Mutambo, together with Ridgeway campus leadership, expressed gratitude for the ministerial visit, emphasizing that accommodation remains the most pressing concern.

“We face the same problems across both campuses,” said Mutambo.

Meanwhile, Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Professor Hambaba Jimaima, appreciated the visit, stating, “Your presence shows commitment to higher education.”

Joint Owned Properties Can’t Be Split – Court

Joint Owned Properties Can’t Be Split – Court
By Dickson Jere

A couple was married for ten years. They had no children together. They acquired different properties during the subsistence of their marriage. One of the properties was in Kalundu in Lusaka which comprised of four big houses, one bedroom cottage and one bed sitter. It also had the main house with four bedrooms but was incomplete.

After divorce, the two went for property settlement at the High Court.

On the Kalundu property, the man insisted that he bought and built all the structures on the property and his former wife merely did the landscaping. He, therefore, asked the Court to give him that property despite it being joint owned. He has put his wife on the title deeds as joint owners. The ex-wife insisted that she also contributed towards the building of the structures.

Having heard the two parties, the High Court ordered that the ex wife be given only two houses on the property as her ex husband contributed more than her.

Unhappy, the women appealed, among other issues, against the Judgement that gave her only two houses when the same were on property that was jointly owned by her and former husband.

A panel of three Supreme Court Judges heard the appeal. They particularly took keen interest in the fact that the properties were built on the land that was jointly owned by the two. They explained that joint ownership of land has its own implications.

“There is indisputable evidence that the Kalundu stand is held on a joint lease,” they observed.

“We are the first to appreciate that land held on a joint lease or a joint tenancy has its own implications that flow from such a relationship,” Judges said.

One of the implications, the Judges noted, is that land that is owned jointly is “indivisible” between the two owners and therefore one cannot claim any particular part. They own it wholly together.

“This can be further explained that on the death of one of the parties to the tenancy his share accrues to the other or others by survivorship,” the Court said, adding that there was no need to bring any evidence as to who contributed more.

“In our opinion, the two should be treated as beneficially entitled in equal shares,” the Court ruled and reversed the lower Court findings.

Instead, the Supreme Court ordered that the properties on the land be valued and sold so that the two gets equal amounts or indeed one with money can buy out the other.

“Once the value of the improvements is ascertained, we order that the stand be sold and proceeds shared on equal basis,” the Court ruled.

Case citation – Scott v Scott -SCZ Judgment No. 3 of 2007.

Lecture Notes:

1. There are two types of land ownership in Zambia. One is joint tenancy and the other one is Tenancy in Common. In joint tenancy, you own everything together “indivisible” and when one dies, the other one takes over entire land as absolute owner. We call it “jus accrescendi”.

2. Tenancy in Common, on the other hand, means each person has his known shares in the land and when he or she dies, it forms part of the estate. It can be taken by the other person.

3. Whatever is built on the joint owned land, it is presumed it was built by all the owners unless you had express written agreement on the properties being built.

Harare Councillors Clash Over Controversial Retirement Age Extension To 70 Years

The City of Harare councillors are clashing over the controversial proposal to extend the retirement age to 70 years.

Harare’s municipal government is embroiled in a heated debate following the adoption of a national directive that raises the mandatory retirement age to 70 years. The policy shift has sparked concerns among some council members who argue it disadvantages both aging workers and unemployed youth.

Harare Councillors Clash Over Retirement Age Extension
During a recent full council meeting, officials reviewed a human resources report that implemented the national mandate.

This follows President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s statutory instrument extending the retirement threshold for public sector workers, including local government employees.

Ward 16 Councillor Denford Ngadziore voiced strong opposition, stating municipal authorities shouldn’t automatically adopt all central government directives.

“This decision directly impacts youth opportunities,” Ngadziore emphasized. “We have university graduates waiting decades for employment while we continually extend service periods.”

The councillor highlighted the council’s evolving retirement policy:

“We’ve moved from 55 to 60, then 65, and now 70. Where does it end? Soon we’ll be discussing 75 or 80.”

Workplace Safety and Rights Considerations

Ngadziore raised additional concerns about senior workers performing physically demanding tasks

“It’s troubling seeing elderly employees climbing onto tipper trucks. We must respect their right to dignified retirement and pension enjoyment, just as we protect against child labor.”

Council Human Resources Committee Chairperson George Mujajati confirmed the directive’s adoption.

“We’ve formally accepted the government policy and are currently executing the implementation process,” Mujajati stated.

The debate continues as Harare grapples with balancing national directives against local workforce realities and generational employment needs. Whether the retirement age will be increased or not id yet to be reported after the councillors hit a consensus.

Wicknell Chivayo’s TTM Global Awarded US$439m (R7.9 Billion) Contract For Cancer Treatment Machines

Wicknell Chivayo’s TTM Global R7.9 Billion Cancer Deal Sparks Outrage
Controversial businessman and ZANU PF activist Wicknell Chivayo has once again become the centre of a national controversy after a South African-registered company linked to him — TTM Global Medical Exports (Pty) Ltd — was awarded a staggering US$439 million (R7.9 billion) contract to supply cancer treatment machines to Zimbabwean hospitals. The deal is part of what government sources call a “presidential scheme for the provision of cancer treatment equipment,” but critics are calling it yet another shady transaction involving the flamboyant and controversial businessman.

A Company Less Than A Year Old

The contract, reportedly signed by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Martin Rushwaya, will see TTM Global receive US$109,320,600 (R1.97 billion) annually over four years. Yet the company was only incorporated in November 2024 — barely seven months before it secured the lucrative health contract.

In a series of detailed questions on X (formerly Twitter), opposition politician and lawyer Fadzayi Mahere openly challenged Chivayo to explain:

“Dear @wicknellchivayo,

  1. On what date did your South African company, TTM Global Medical Exports (Pty) Ltd, tender for the supply of cancer treatment equipment?
  2. Do you have a copy of the call for public tenders?
  3. Can you explain why the value of the contract is half a billion US dollars?
  4. On what basis was your company awarded the contract given that this company came into existence in November 2024, meaning that it is less than a year old?
  5. Why is the physical address of your company a hotel? Is it a briefcase company? Does your company manufacture cancer treatment equipment at Da Vinci Hotel and Suites?”

The company, according to official records, is registered at the Da Vinci Hotel and Suites in Sandton, Johannesburg — a luxury hotel and shopping complex that does not host any known medical equipment manufacturing facility.

No public response from Chivayo had been issued by the time of writing.

Four-year deal signed without public tender?
Prominent journalist and social media commentator Jealous Mbizvo Mawarire, known for publishing whistleblower-style information, alleged that the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya, personally signed a four-year contract with TTM Global Medical Exports, valued at US$109,320,600 (R1.96 billion) per year.

Mawarire further escalated the conversation by leaking documents allegedly showing that Chivayo personally drafted the proposal that led to the awarding of the cancer machine deal — a move that bypassed competitive bidding.

“Here are the first 4 pages of the ‘proposal’ to run a ‘presidential scheme for the provision of cancer treatment equipment’ that Dumbuzenene (Chivayo) did. The rot in Emmerson Mnangagwa has now reached alarming levels,” he posted.

“The contract was entered into by Martin Rushwaya and TTM Global without going to tender… The fact that Emmerson Mnangagwa is touring hospitals, two months after the contract was entered, is a poor window dressing gimmick by lunatics who think all Zimbabweans are fools.”

The full contract is worth US$437,282,400 (R7.85 billion), with annual payments broken down across four years.

IMC Communications now building roads
Separately, another Chivayo-linked company, IMC Communications, has made headlines after shifting from telecommunications to road construction. The company was previously known for attempting to bring Starlink to Zimbabwe and holding an ISP licence from the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz).

However, the Starlink deal collapsed when Potraz clarified that no exclusive reseller agreements had been granted.

Now, IMC Communications appears to have pivoted into infrastructure. Videos circulating online show road construction sites with IMC Communications-branded dump trucks, pavers, rollers, and workers in matching gear.

Many Zimbabweans are baffled. Social media users asked how a telecommunications firm, registered only months ago, suddenly secured contracts in civil engineering.

“Company yanezuro uno iyi,” wrote one X user.
“How does a communications company get a tender for road construction?” asked another.

While the government has yet to release details of the contracts, the video evidence has intensified suspicions that tenders are being awarded without transparency or public scrutiny.

IMC Communications, believed to be registered in Zimbabwe as a private limited company, was initially focused on fibre-optic installations and mobile network development. Its director, Wicknell Chivayo, has publicly claimed to have partnered with various international tech firms — though few of those partnerships have been confirmed.

Chivayo was also previously involved in the failed Gwanda solar power project, for which millions were paid upfront without meaningful progress.

Repeat Offender? Financial Intelligence Centre Report Raises More Alarms
This is not the first time Chivayo’s name has been tied to controversial public contracts. A bombshell report by ZimLive and South Africa’s Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) revealed that Chivayo had received over R800 million (US$41.9 million) from a R1.1 billion (US$61.1 million) payment made by Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Finance to a separate company, Ren-Form CC, for election supplies ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Once the money was received from Treasury, Ren-Form reportedly funneled most of it to Chivayo’s companies: Intratrek Holdings and Dolintel Trading Enterprise. The FIC flagged multiple payments as “suspicious”, citing:

“Rapid movement of funds to various parties, round figure payments, luxury purchases, and transaction activity not in line with the profiling information of the account holder.”

From these accounts, Chivayo allegedly made significant transfers to:

  • R5.4 million to luxury car dealer Daytona
  • R36 million for personal vehicle purchases
  • R1.6 million to travel agent Flight Centre South Africa
  • R4 million to law firm Strauss Scher Inc
  • R1 million to Zimbabwean cosmetic brand Christian by Hadassah

One payment of R351 million went to a little-known company called Asibambeki Platinum Group, with one Emmanuel Musanyenda listed as sole director.

Despite this, Chivayo has maintained his innocence. He has denied any criminal wrongdoing and even issued an apology to President Mnangagwa and several top officials after audio clips allegedly implicating them surfaced.

“I apologise for creating the adverse impression that our institutions are involved in corruption,” he said.

Presidential Tours Raise Eyebrows
President Mnangagwa tweeted on 16 June 2025 that he had visited Parirenyatwa Hospital, Sally Mugabe Hospital, and NatPharm warehouse to assess Zimbabwe’s healthcare system. But critics were quick to say the tour was a “public relations stunt.”

Zimbabweans continue to demand answers. With healthcare in crisis, questions are mounting as to how a luxury hotel-based firm owned by a politically connected figure was granted nearly half a billion US dollars — without a public tender.

Govt Spokesperson Defends $439 Million No-Tender Deal for Cancer Equipment

Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana has confirmed that Zimbabwe awarded a US$439 million contract to a South African company without going to tender, a move that has sparked public concern and debate online.

Govt Spokesperson Defends $439 Million No-Tender Deal
The deal is with TTM Global Medical Exports and covers the supply of cancer treatment equipment to hospitals across the country over four years. Mangwana addressed the backlash on his verified X account on Tuesday, 17 June 2025, confirming the authenticity of the contract and defending the decision-making process.

In a post that seemed to unintentionally confirm that the deal skipped public tender procedures, Mangwana argued that the Cabinet is within its rights to approve and implement such transactions without public input.

“As the Executive arm of the State, Cabinet’s role is to make and implement decisions within the law. Transactions sanctioned by Cabinet shouldn’t be assumed corrupt, given the collective nature of the decision-making process,” Mangwana wrote.

Walter Mzembi Remanded in Custody Pending Trial

Walter Mzembi, Zimbabwe’s former Minister of Foreign Affairs, has been remanded in custody following a court appearance before Harare Regional Magistrate Donald Ndirowei. The prominent politician will remain in custody until 1 July, when his trial is scheduled to begin in Court 14

Mzembi’s defence attorney declined media interviews following the proceedings, stating he was not prepared to discuss the case publicly at this time. The legal representative’s refusal to comment has added to the intrigue surrounding this high-stakes legal battle.

Health Concerns Cited in Warrant Cancellation Bid
During yesterday’s hearing, the former government official sought to have three outstanding arrest warrants nullified. Through his lawyer Killian Mandiki, Mzembi presented medical evidence suggesting his previous court absences resulted from serious health complications rather than any attempt to avoid prosecution.

“In 2018, my client legitimately requested passport release exclusively for cancer treatment abroad,” Mandiki explained to the court. “His medical condition requires specialized ongoing care and essential medications.”

Voluntary Return Demonstrates Compliance

The defence emphasised that Mzembi’s unimpeded return to Zimbabwe proved his commitment to legal due process.

“He came back voluntarily without any external pressure, showing his respect for the judicial system,” Mandiki added.

Acting Deputy Prosecutor-General Tendai Shonhayi informed the magistrate that state prosecutors would file their official response to the defence’s arguments later that day. The court adjourned to allow for proper consideration of the submissions.

Walter Mzambi Remanded in Custody For Corruption Charges
The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission arrested Mzembi recently for allegedly breaching bail conditions connected to two separate legal matters. One case involves accusations related to trust property, while the other concerns alleged passport control violations during his time as Tourism Minister.

As the legal proceedings continue, the case presents a complex intersection of health considerations, legal accountability, and public interest in the fate of this prominent political figure.

Wicknell Chivayo Donates US$1 Million to Mnangagwa’s Scholarship Program

Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo used Father’s Day to sing the praises of President Emmerson Mnangagwa — and followed it up with a big donation.

Chivayo Hails Mnangagwa as “Father of the Nation”
Posting on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, 16 June 2025, Chivayo called Mnangagwa the “father of the nation” and praised his leadership, saying he carried the heavy responsibility of guiding and protecting Zimbabwe like a true father.

He thanked Mnangagwa for what he described as “visionary leadership,” highlighting projects like the recently commissioned Trabablas Interchange and the country’s ongoing infrastructure developments. He even compared Mnangagwa’s leadership to a father building his family’s home, “brick upon brick.”

Chivayo claimed the country now has more young entrepreneurs than ever before — and gave the credit to Mnangagwa’s leadership and empowerment efforts. He also applauded the ED-UNZA Scholarship Program, calling it a symbol of the President’s commitment to education and youth development.

Chivayo wrapped up his tribute by wishing Mnangagwa good health and “many more years” of inspired leadership, declaring:

“On this occasion of Father’s Day, I wish you abundant health, divine wisdom and many more years of INSPIRED LEADERSHIP. May your legacy as a father, builder and unifier endure for generations to come.”

And then came the big moment.

Wicknell Chivayo Donates US$1 Million to Mnangagwa’s Scholarship Program
Chivayo pledged US$1 million to the scholarship fund, saying he hoped it would be approved and used to help even more disadvantaged but academically gifted learners.

“It is against this background that I HUMBLY extend my pledge to donate US$1 MILLION to the ED‑UNZA Scholarship Program, subject to Your Excellency’s APPROVAL and the governance structures of the Scholarship TRUSTEES. Established in 2019, this Fund was founded to support ACADEMICALLY gifted learners from DISADVANTAGED backgrounds. Today, through your EXCELLENCY’S leadership, many bright young boys and girls are benefiting from the program. It is my hope that this donation will be accepted so it can STRENGTHEN the scholarship’s capacity to TRANSFORM even more lives, particularly for VULNERABLE children who DREAM of tertiary education and giving back to Zimbabwe’s socio-development,” he said.

Trump announces U.S have taken total control of the skies over Iran

United States president, Donald has announced to the public that his country have taken total control of Iran

He stated that Iran’s air defense systems, including sky trackers, were inferior to American technology.

Trump emphasized the superiority of U.S.-made equipment compared to those of Iran’s own.

His statement came amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, with Israel conducting a five-day bombing campaign against Iranian targets, reportedly using American-made weaponry.

Trump’s post suggests U.S. involvement in achieving air superiority, though the Pentagon has stated that the U.S. is not directly striking Iran but is focused on defending its interests in the region.

The Israeli military has also claimed the ability to fly over Tehran without significant resistance, having destroyed numerous Iranian air defense systems.

However, Trump’s claim has raised questions about the extent of U.S. involvement.

The situation as at now remains volatile, with Iran launching retaliatory missile strikes and ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict.

Trump says he is looking for an end to the Israel-Iran war and not a ceasefire deal

U.S. President Donald Trump, speaking to reporters after returning early from the G7 summit in Canada, declared that he is aiming for a resolution to the escalating Iran-Israel conflict that goes beyond a mere ceasefire.

Instead, he described his goal as achieving a “real end” to the conflict, emphasizing Iran’s complete abandonment of its nuclear ambitions.

“I’m not looking for a ceasefire, we’re looking at better than a ceasefire. We’re looking for an end, a real end, not a ceasefire. An end. A complete give-up by Iran.”

The statement follows days of intense military exchanges between Israel and Iran, with Israel launching airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities and military infrastructure, and Iran retaliating with missile and drone attacks.

Trump’s comments are not only seen as a focus on preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, but also fueling speculation about potential U.S. involvement in the conflict.

Benjamin Netanyahu says he doesn’t rule out eliminating Iran’s supreme leader

In an exclusive interview with ABC News, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not rule out the possibility of targeting Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as part of Israel’s ongoing military operations.

During the interview with ABC News correspondent Jonathan Karl, Netanyahu asserted that eliminating Khamenei would not escalate the conflict but rather bring it to an end.

He described Iran’s leadership as pushing the region toward a “forever war” and accused Tehran of driving the Middle East to the “brink of nuclear war.”

According to him, the current Iranian regime is known for bombing buildings, killing people and spreading terrorism.

“The forever war is what Iran wants, and they are bringing this to the brink of nuclear war. In fact what Israel is doing, is preventing this,” Netanyahu told ABC.

He emphasized that the greatest danger to the peace of the world is the current Iran regime having nuclear weapons

“We are preventing the most horrific war imaginable and we are bringing peace to the Middle East,” he defended Israel’s attacks on Iran.

“I am Saddam Hussein, president of Iraq, and I want to negotiate”- Saddam Hussein said after he was captured by the United States military

Tikrit, Iraq – December 14, 2003
In a stunning turn of events, U.S. forces captured former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, ending an eight-month manhunt that followed the fall of Baghdad. The once-feared leader was discovered hiding in a cramped underground bunker near a farmhouse in the village of ad-Dawr, approximately 10 miles southeast of his hometown, Tikrit.

The operation, dubbed “Operation Red Dawn,” was executed by soldiers of the U.S. Army’s 4th Infantry Division, alongside elite special operations units, including Task Force 121. Acting on intelligence from a detainee—reportedly a member of Saddam’s inner circle—around 600 troops descended on two locations code-named “Wolverine 1” and “Wolverine 2” on the evening of December 13. At approximately 8:30 p.m. local time, they uncovered a concealed “spider hole”—a narrow, six-to-eight-foot deep pit camouflaged with bricks, dirt, and a Styrofoam lid.

Saddam, disheveled and sporting a graying beard, emerged without resistance. “I am Saddam Hussein, president of Iraq, and I want to negotiate,” he reportedly told the soldiers in English as they pulled him from the hole. Armed with a pistol he did not fire, and carrying $750,000 in U.S. currency, the deposed leader was a far cry from the defiant figure who had ruled Iraq for over two decades. Two AK-47 rifles and a small cache of supplies were also found nearby, tended by two other men who were detained.

Major General Ray Odierno, commander of the 4th Infantry Division, briefed reporters in Tikrit, calling the capture “a defining moment” in the effort to stabilize Iraq. Video footage released by the military showed Saddam undergoing a medical examination, his capture broadcast worldwide as a symbol of victory for the U.S.-led coalition that ousted him in April.

The operation stemmed from months of intelligence work, including interrogations of Saddam’s loyalists and family members. The breakthrough came when a key informant revealed the farmhouse hideout, a site previously searched but overlooked. President George W. Bush, addressing the nation, declared, “The tyrant will face justice,” signaling hope that Saddam’s capture would quell the growing insurgency in Iraq.

In Baghdad, celebrations erupted as Iraqis fired guns into the air and honked car horns, though some expressed skepticism about the country’s future. “He’s gone, but the troubles aren’t,” said Ahmed al-Jabouri, a shopkeeper in the capital. Saddam, now in U.S. custody at an undisclosed location, awaits trial for crimes committed during his regime, including the gassing of Kurds and the suppression of Shiite uprisings.

The capture marks a significant milestone in the Iraq War, though military officials caution that violence may persist as loyalists and foreign fighters remain active. For now, the image of Saddam Hussein—once omnipresent on Iraq’s billboards—being pulled from a hole in the ground stands as a stark testament to the fall of a dictator.

Brain-dead woman set to be taken off life support after her baby was born

Adriana Smith, the pregnant Georgia woman who has been brain-dead since February, gave birth by emergency Caesarean section Friday and is set to be taken off life support this week, her family told a local NBC News affiliate

The case made national headlines. Smith’s mother said her daughter had to stay on life support until she gave birth because of Georgia’s six-week abortion ban, which has narrow exceptions for rape, incest, or the life or health of the pregnant person. Smith was nine weeks pregnant when she was declared brain-dead.

Smith’s mother told local news that the baby weighs 1 pound and 13 ounces and will require care in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit.

Emory Hospital, where Smith has been kept, has declined to comment on the case beyond telling the Associated Press that they considered “Georgia’s abortion laws and all other applicable laws.” The Georgia law holds that after six weeks of pregnancy, embryos and fetuses deserve the same legal protections as people.

The case has sparked broad outcry, with national Democrats denouncing the Georgia law and some state lawmakers calling for clarifications about what is permitted under the law. State Attorney General Chris Carr has said he does not believe that the abortion ban compels health providers to keep a pregnant person on life support until they can give birth. Still, he has not issued a legal opinion asserting as much, despite calls from Democratic state lawmakers.

Some abortion opponents have argued the law would mean Smith should stay on life support. Ed Setzler, a state senator who co-sponsored Georgia’s six-week ban, told the Associated Press that it was “completely appropriate” to keep Smith on life support until she could give birth. Students for Life, an influential anti-abortion group, has said the same.

Georgia is one of four states with a six-week abortion ban; Florida, Iowa and South Carolina have similar laws, including with exceptions for rape, incest, and the life or health of the pregnant person, along with some exceptions for pregnancis with fetal anomalies. Another dozen states ban abortion throughout pregnancy.

MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace slams GOP over loss of decency

Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) prompted a conversation on MSNBC about the GOP’s dehumanization of people they oppose.

On Tuesday, Lee deleted posts on X that joked about the assassination of one Democratic official and her husband and the attempted assassination of another lawmaker in Minnesota over the weekend.

Lee faced backlash for days, with U.S. Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN) confronting him to explain that those who were killed were real people.

Sarah Longwell, a Republican focus group expert and publisher of The Bulwark, noted that the “degradation of Mike Lee” is a timeline that matches up with the “degradation of people’s behavior on social media” and of the Republican Party itself.

“I think that if there’s going to be any salvation for any of us, it’s going to be rediscovering the decency and the humanity that that Sen. [Smith] brought to him by saying, this is shameful behavior. Like, you know better. I’m your colleague. Like, don’t, don’t do this. Don’t be like this.”

Longwell related it to Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), who dismissed concerns by her constituents about Medicaid by saying they were all going to die anyway. Ernst then doubled down, walking through a cemetery to continue mocking her constituents with a faux apology for bursting their bubble.

“That doubling down has become standard operating procedure for Republicans,” said Longwell. “So, for someone as far gone as Mike Lee appeared to be, over the last few years, to see him take [the post] down — it’d be better if he apologized. It’d be better if he did more. But at least he’s taking them down. That’s a start.”

That’s when “Deadline: White House” host Nicolle Wallace expressed a moment of frustration. “It just strikes me that the bar is so freaking low. We’re not talking about a Republican senator who lost his mind, I think.”

She recalled a Tim Alberta report from several years ago that detailed Lee’s “descent into madness.”

“And it’s totally tangled up with the mythology of the manosphere. But Joe Rogan’s been micro-breaking up with Trump in little tiny ways every week for about the last six weeks. I mean, it’s not masculine to make fun of someone who’s been assassinated. It’s not even a sentence anyone should have to utter. It’s bats— crazy. What is wrong with him?” she asked.

Trump clash with Turker Carlson, insist Iran can never have a nuclear

United States president, Donald Trump has made it clear once again that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.

Trump turned his attention this time to prominent conservative commentator, Turker Carlson who critisized him about the ongoing feud between Iran and Israel.

Turker Carlson criticized Trump’s support for Israel’s recent military strikes on Iran, arguing that U.S. involvement contradicts the America First principle of avoiding foreign wars.

In his newsletter titled “This Could Be the Final Newsletter Before All-Out War,” Carlson accused Trump of being complicit in Israel’s attacks.

He cited years of U.S. funding and weapons support to Israel, which Trump highlighted on Truth Social.

Carlson warned that U.S. involvement could lead to a broader Middle East conflict, potentially derailing Trump’s presidency and America’s global influence.

Trump as expected, responded to the news and made it known that the policy, America First includes not allowing Iran to have a nuclear weapon.

Togo suspends French broadcasters, RFI and France 24 for repeated biased reporting

Togo has taken a significant step towards regulating their media by handing two French firms suspension.

The Togolese media regulator, the High Authority for Audiovisual and Communication (HAAC), suspended French broadcasters RFI (Radio France Internationale) and France 24 for three months.

The HAAC accused the outlets of “repeated violations” of journalistic standards, including biased and inaccurate reporting.

Their repeated actions is said to have allegedly undermined Togo’s republican institutions and national image.

Specific issues cited include an interview with inaccurate claims about the arrest of artist Aamron, statements encouraging mobilization against the government, and biased commentary.

This decision follows a pattern in West Africa, with similar suspensions in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger.

It comes amid political tensions in Togo, driven by controversial constitutional changes in April 2024 that shifted the country to a parliamentary system, potentially extending President Faure Gnassingbé’s rule.

Opposition groups have labeled this a constitutional coup, and protests, banned since 2022, have faced crackdowns, with more planned later in the years.

RFI and France 24 expressed surprise at the suspension, claiming it was issued without prior warning despite ongoing dialogue with the HAAC.

They reaffirmed their commitment to impartial journalism and ready to cooperate in reversing the decision.

Iranian Broadcasting Corporation urged citizens to delete WhatsApp from their phones to avoid being tracked by Zionist enemy

Tthe Iranian Broadcasting Corporation (IRIB) has urged it’s citizens to delete WhatsApp from their Mobile phones.

The broadcasting cooperation made a bold claim that the app collects personal information, including users last locations and contact details.

According to them, this details are shared with hostile foreign entities, specifically the Zionist enemy.

This decision, coincides with heightened tensions ongoing between Iran which isn’t looking like one that will be ending anytime soon.

As we reported earlier, there’s an ongoing tension between Iran and Israel ollowing Israeli airstrikes on Iran.

The conflict has already caused lots of damages to both countries and reports indicates some top Iran military leaders have been eliminated.

Meanwhile the warning reflects concerns over surveillance and data exposure during the ongoing conflict.

Trump says he knows where Iran’s Supreme Leader is hiding but they are not going to eliminate him

In a surprising turn of events, President Donald Trump has revealed that they (the U.S.) are aware of the hiding place of Iran’s Supreme Leader.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump revealed that the US is aware of the location of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In the post, Trump revealed that although they (the US) know his location and that “he is an easy target,” he is still “safe there.”

However, Trump emphasized that no action will be taken to eliminate him or ‘take him out’ at least not yet.

Trump further expressed concerns about the potential for missiles to be fired at civilians or American soldiers, indicating a desire to avoid such outcomes.

Concluding his statement, Trump hinted on the urgency of Iran making a deal with the US saying “our patience is wearing thin.”

Trump tells ‘everyone’ to evacuate Iranian capital

US President, Donald Trump sparked panic in Iran on Monday night by issuing an evacuation call for the entire city of Tehran as the conflict between Israel and the Islamic Republic appeared poised for further escalation

“Iran should have signed the ‘deal’ I told them to sign. What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social media platform.

Shortly after the post, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that Trump would be departing early from the G7 leaders summit in Canada to meet with his advisers at the White House regarding the Israel-Iran conflict, as it enters the fifth day.

The president’s evacuation warning came after Israeli officials called for those in Tehran to evacuate earlier Monday ahead of its continued military campaign against Iran, which has included slews of missile exchanges between the conflicting countries.

The evacuation area includes an estimated 330,000 people in central Tehran, including Iran’s state television headquarters, police headquarters, and three key hospitals including one owned by the country’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard.

Iranian authorities dismissed Israel’s call for evacuation as nothing more than “psychological warfare.”

The G7 leaders issued a statement late Monday about the hostilities between Israel and Iran. Mr. Trump signed the statement, though U.S. officials had said earlier he didn’t plan to.

It reads in part that they “affirm that Israel has a right to defend itself. We reiterate our support for the security of Israel. We also affirm the importance of the protection of civilians. Iran is the principal source of regional instability and terror. We have been consistently clear that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon. We urge that the resolution of the Iranian crisis leads to a broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza.”

In addition, the statement said, “We will remain vigilant to the implications for international energy markets and stand ready to coordinate, including with like-minded partners, to safeguard market stability.”

Trump tells Middle East allies US would not join Israel’s war with Iran unless Iran strikes any U.S. personnel

0

The United States has communicated to several Middle Eastern allies that it has no interest in joining the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.

The Trump administration made it clear they will not participate in the conflict unless Iran directly targets U.S. personnel.

The United States made this decision, citing an Arab diplomat familiar with Tehran’s position.

It was noted that Iran is cautious to avoid provoking direct United States involvement in the conflict.

United States officials have emphasized that while the U.S. supports Israel’s missile defense, Israel is acting unilaterally in its offensive operations against Iran.

Secretary of the State Marco Rubio reiterated this position, stating that the U.S. was not involved in Israel’s strikes on Iran.

He also made it clear that the primary focus is protecting American forces in the region.

Yogurt CEO begs Trump to reverse course on ICE crackdown

Chobani CEO Hamdi Ulukaya is urging the Trump administration to reconsider its hardline approach toward immigration, as he warned Tuesday that the country’s food supply chain is being threatened by aggressive nationwide enforcement raids.

“We need to be very realistic,” Ulukaya said at the Wall Street Journal’s Global Food Forum in Chicago. “We need immigration, and we need workers for our food system to work.”

The yogurt maker’s stark warning comes amid escalating immigration raids that “have rattled food and agriculture companies in recent weeks,” the Journal reported Tuesday.

“Trump’s immigration crackdown is roiling America’s food system,” the publication added. “Produce farms, dairies and recently a meat processing plant in Nebraska have been ensnared in immigration raids, disrupting production and threatening to shrink an already tight labor pool.”

Employers say workers are afraid to change jobs or even leave home, the Journal noted. Roughly two-thirds of U.S. crop farm workers are foreign-born, and nearly half are not legally authorized to work, according to Labor Department data. On Wisconsin dairy farms, about 70 percent of the workforce lacks legal status, a University of Wisconsin-Madison study found.

While the Department of Homeland Security indicated last week it would pause enforcement at farms, restaurants, and hotels, a spokesperson reversed internal guidance and confirmed that those locations are still on the table. But industry leaders fear a “labor squeeze” could ultimately lead to higher prices for consumers.

“I don’t know if it’s a year, three years, five years, 10 years, but certainly you’ll have an impact across all of those industries if we’re not able to get to a workable solution,” Hormel Foods CEO Jim Snee said, according to the Journal.

American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall echoed the food executives’ warnings.

“Without farmworkers, vegetables will be left in the fields, fruit will remain unpicked, and cows will go unmilked,” he said Tuesday. “The end result is a reduced food supply and higher grocery prices for all of America’s families.” The group is calling on Congress to develop a permanent immigration solution.

Trump to give TikTok another extension before enforcing sale-or-ban law

President Donald Trump is moving to grant yet another three-month extension for short-form video social media platform TikTok to arrange a deal, before enforcing the sale-or-ban legislation passed last year, CNN reported.

“President Trump will sign an additional Executive Order this week to keep TikTok up and running,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement Tuesday. “As he has said many times, President Trump does not want TikTok to go dark. This extension will last 90 days, which the Administration will spend working to ensure this deal is closed so that the American people can continue to use TikTok with the assurance that their data is safe and secure.”

The legislation forcing TikTok to be divested from its parent Chinese company, ByteDance, or face a ban in the United States came amid widespread national security concerns about the platform.

Trump tried to ban TikTok by executive order in his first term, but has since reversed his position and now opposes a ban. He has tried to work behind the scenes to help ByteDance come to a favorable deal.

China evacuates its citizens from Israel and Iran

China has issued a major warning to all citizens residing in Israel to move out with immidiate effect.

The Chinese embassy in Israel issued an urgent advisory urging Chinese citizens to leave the country as soon as possible.

The decision, communicated to the Chinese citizens hours ago came as a result of the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.

The embassy cited a deteriorating security situation, with civilian facilities damaged, increasing civilian casualties, and closed Israeli airspace.

They recommended exiting via land border crossings, specifically towards Jordan.

This warning follows intensified Israeli-Iranian strikes, including missile and drone attacks.

The attacks has so far raised fears of broader regional instability in the region which could have a severe impact.

China also evacuated its citizens from Iran.

Kyle Walker set to join Everton

Manchester City defender, Kyle Walker, has agreed to join Everton on a one-year deal.

The England right-back has been locked in talks with Toffees chiefs since his return from his loan spell at AC Milan.

Everton and his current club Manchester City will now thrash out whether it is a permanent deal or just a 12-month loan while he sees out the remainder of his Etihad contract.

The 35-year-old won 17 major honours including six Prem titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups and the Champions League during a glittering eight years at City.

Despite having a year left on his Etihad deal, he was axed from their Club World Cup squad and no longer features in Pep Guardiola’s plans.

A source said: “Kyle has been a wonderful serving to the club.

“He has given everything and was key to the success. But after the disappointment of last season the club has to rebuild.”

It will bring to an end a love affair with City which began following a £50million move from Spurs in 2017.

Elon Musk shares his drug test results

Elon Musk has released the results of a recent drug test in response to a bombshell report alleging he used a combination of illicit substances during his time advising former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The report, published by The New York Times, claimed Musk frequently used drugs such as ketamine, ecstasy, cocaine, and psychedelic mushrooms while serving as head of the Department of Government Efficiency under the Trump administration.

The article alleged Musk consumed ketamine so often it caused bladder issues and that he regularly traveled with a personal supply of 20 pills. His alleged drug use was said to have intensified as his political influence grew and after he donated at least $275 million to Trump’s presidential campaign.

Musk has consistently denied the claims, previously stating: “If you’ve used too much ketamine, you can’t really get work done, and I have a lot of work.”

To counter the allegations, Musk shared the results of a recent urine test on his X (formerly Twitter) account. The test, conducted at Fastest Labs of South Austin, reportedly screened for substances including ketamine, cocaine, fentanyl, and amphetamines — all of which returned negative results.

The post was accompanied by a simple caption: “lol.”

Musk’s release of the drug test comes amid ongoing tensions with Trump. Their once-strong alliance has fractured in recent months, following a series of controversial social media exchanges. At one point, Musk implied Trump had ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein — a claim he later walked back, admitting he “went too far.”

Diddy Trial Juror Began Laughing After Watching Alleged Freak-Off Tapes For The First Time

The Diddy Trial continued in New York on Monday, and for the first time, the alleged freak-off tapes were played in court.

One of the biggest stories in hip-hop right now is the Diddy Trial, which has been going on for 24 days at this point. Overall, Monday was a pretty monumental day in the trial and for good reason. It just so happens to be the first time that jurors were shown the alleged “freak-off” tapes.

Ever since the raids on Diddy’s homes back in March of 2024, there has been an almost mythological quality to the existence of these tapes. Ultimately, they will not be shown to the public, and for good reason. However, some have questioned whether or not the prosecution would show these to the jurors. Well, that question was answered emphatically on Monday.

According to De’Asia Robinson of The Neighborhood Talk, the response to the alleged freak-off tapes was varied. Although, there were some jurors who couldn’t help but laugh. Audio of the tapes spilled out into the courtroom. This subsequently caused laughs from one of the jurors. Meanwhile, another juror could not help but shake her head.

Man arrested for terroristic threats to ‘No Kings’ protesters

A Texas man was arrested on charges of making terroristic threats after he made YouTube comments about the “No Kings” protests against President Donald Trump.

KVUE reported that investigators in San Antonio identified Travis Ryan Hayson through his YouTube account and IP address. He was taken into custody on Saturday.

“Time to kill some trash,” Hayson remarked on one YouTube news report about the protests. “Texas doesn’t need the National Guard. We’ll kill them ourselves.”

Texas just got a new hunting season,” another comment said.

According to authorities, the comments included racial slurs aimed at Black and Latino protesters. He was also said to have threatened the police.

“Where he clearly crossed the line is when he advocated for actually killing protesters, when he advocated for assaulting police officers, and when he stated in the past tense that he had done so,” defense attorney Joseph Hoelscher told KVUE. “At a certain point, it’s not just a joke anymore.”

LA businesses turn into ‘ghost towns’ due to ICE raids

Federal immigration raids are hurting some businesses in Los Angeles worse than the pandemic, local business owners told Reuters.

One fruit vendor told the wire service that his daily earnings have declined from $2,000 to roughly $300 because of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids. A restaurant owner said his weekly earnings have declined by about $7,000.

“This is really hurting everybody’s business,” he said. “It’s terrible. It’s worse than pandemic.”

A hot dog vendor added that it has been “psychologically exhausting” to find places to work since the immigration raids began.

The Trump administration has conducted immigration enforcement operations under the auspices of removing violent criminals from the country. However, that mandate has shifted focus to include workplace raids at businesses across the country.

Last week, border czar Tom Homan said ICE would “massively expand” its workplace raids. The move received widespread backlash from business owners, immigration advocates, and lawyers alike.

Trump had said his administration would pause immigration enforcement at businesses that rely on immigrant labor, like restaurants, hotels, and farms. His administration swiftly changed course the following day as the Department of Homeland Security told staff to resume enforcement activities.

ICE raids have been especially impactful in cities like LA, where about 40% of the city’s entrepreneurs are foreign-born, according to the American Immigration Council.

Trump launches the Trump T1 Mobile for $499

The Trump Organization has announced its entry into the telecommunications industry with the launch of “Trump Mobile,” a new mobile service featuring a U.S.-made smartphone and a competitive service plan.

Morning Brief host Brad Smith highlighted the announcement. Trump Mobile’s flagship is the “T1 Phone,” a gold-colored Android smartphone priced at $499.

The T1 boasts a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 12GB of RAM, a 50MP main camera, a 5,000mAh battery, and features like a fingerprint sensor and AI Face Unlock.

Marketed as “Made in America,” the phone is available for pre-order with a $100 down payment and is slated for release in September 2025.

Trump Mobile’s service plan, dubbed the “47 Plan,” is priced at $47.45 per month, a nod to President Donald Trump’s status as the 47th U.S. president.

The plan offers unlimited talk, text, and data, with 20GB of high-speed 5G data before throttling, provided through partnerships with major carriers AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.

Additional perks include 24/7 roadside assistance via Drive America, telehealth services through the Doctegrity app, device protection, and free international calling to over 100 countries, including those with U.S. military bases.

The venture, led by Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, aims to appeal to conservative consumers with its patriotic branding, featuring an American flag etched on the T1 phone.

“We’re introducing an entire package of products where people can get telemedicine, roadside assistance, and unlimited texting to 100 countries for one flat monthly fee,” Donald Trump Jr. stated at a Trump Tower press conference.

Judge halts NYC Mayor Adams’ ICE order amid allegations of backroom deal with Trump administration

ANew York judge has thrown a wrench into Mayor Eric Adams’ plan to allow federal immigration authorities to return to the Rikers Island jail complex, raising serious questions about whether the move was politically compromised.

In a ruling issued Friday, Judge Mary Rosado granted a preliminary injunction blocking the mayor’s executive order, which would have reinstated U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal agencies at the city’s main detention facility. The order had drawn immediate backlash from the City Council, which filed a lawsuit in April accusing Adams of using city policy as leverage to secure a favorable outcome in his federal corruption investigation.

The heart of the legal challenge centers on what Rosado described as a credible appearance of a quid pro quo: that Adams allegedly offered to reopen Rikers to ICE in exchange for the U.S. Justice Department dropping criminal charges against him.

Tanzania opposition leader Tundu Lissu to defend himself in treason case after denied private legal access

Opposition leader Tundu Lissu has been granted the right to represent himself in a high-profile treason trial after Tanzanian prison authorities repeatedly blocked private meetings with his legal team.

Lissu, who heads the main opposition party Chadema, has been in custody since April 9 after delivering a public address that criticized Tanzania’s electoral framework and called for reforms ahead of the October general elections. He now faces treason charges for that speech.

On Monday, Lissu told the Kisutu magistrate court in Dar es Salaam that he had been systematically denied confidential access to his legal team of over 30 lawyers. Instead, he was forced to communicate through a monitored phone in a small room within the prison, raising serious concerns about attorney-client privilege.

“I have more than 30 lawyers who I trust very much. Today is the 68th day since I was arraigned and charged with treason, but my lawyers have been repeatedly denied the right to see me in private,” Lissu said in an AP report.

The court’s chief magistrate, Franco Kiswaga, responded by approving Lissu’s request to act as his own counsel for now, allowing him to directly engage the prosecution unless he chooses to reinstate his legal team. Kiswaga also directed state prosecutors to expedite their investigation and confirmed July 1 as the trial’s hearing date.

Lissu further decried the conditions of his imprisonment, alleging that he had been stripped of basic rights, including access to worship. He noted that he was being held in a section of the prison meant for death row inmates, despite not being convicted of any crime.

He emphasized, “I am being held in a section of the prison designated for inmates sentenced to death.”

The Chadema party has long accused the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), which has held power since independence in 1961, of exploiting electoral laws and resisting independent oversight.

Tundu Lissu, who survived an assassination attempt in 2017 after being shot 16 times, has become a symbol of resistance within the opposition.
