SA hasn’t indicated that burying Lungu there is an option – Haimbe
… are we suggesting that Zambians have no say in this whole matter?

Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation minister Mulambo Haimbe says the South African government has not indicated that burying the remains of late former president Edgar Lungu in that country was an option

Speaking with Daily Revelation on the remarks by Lungu’s family, through their spokesperson Makebi Zulu, that burying the remains of the former president in South Africa remained an option if the government persisted on pursuing their position, Haimbe said every stakeholder had a different view, and whether or not burying in South Africa was doable involved

DORA SILIYA CALLS FOR UNITY AND DIGNITY IN MOURNING PRESIDENT LUNGU

DORA SILIYA CALLS FOR UNITY AND DIGNITY IN MOURNING PRESIDENT LUNGU

“Bring Back Our President” – A Plea for Maturity and Compassion

Lusaka, Friday, June 13, 2025 – Former Cabinet Minister and Member of Parliament Dora Siliya has issued an emotional and reflective statement urging Zambians to rise above political rivalry and focus on unity and compassion as the country mourns the passing of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, who died seven days ago.

In a heartfelt message titled “Bring Back Our President,” Dr. Siliya cautioned against the emerging blame and speculation in the wake of President Lungu’s death, calling instead for restraint, kindness, and support for the bereaved family.

“This is not the time to jostle for a show of who loved him most… or point at whom we think hated him. It’s unchristian,” she wrote, referencing Shakespeare’s Mark Antony with the phrase, “This is the time to bury Caesar.”

Dr. Siliya emphasized that the true focus should remain on President Lungu’s family, who bear the deepest pain. “They need all of us… to give them strength as they navigate this difficult journey,” she said.

Highlighting the late President’s journey from UPND to PF and his role in establishing the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Dr. Siliya described Dr. Lungu as a man who understood both politics and the power of forgiveness.

“Who are we not to forgive?” she asked, urging leaders and citizens alike to exhibit maturity, tolerance, and moral clarity in honouring Dr. Lungu’s legacy.

GPZ APPLAUDS CHINA…..for its decision to drop all tariffs on African imports

GPZ APPLAUDS CHINA

…..for its decision to drop all tariffs on African imports

Lusaka… Friday June 13, 2025 (SMART EAGLES)

Golden Party Zambia President Jackson Silavwe says the announcement that China is ready to drop all tariffs on African imports deserves applause.

China has said it is ready to drop the tariffs it charges on imports from all 53 African countries with which it has diplomatic relations.

Mr Silavwe has told Smart Eagles that China is Africa’s largest trading partner with Africa exporting goods to the Asian nation worth around $170 billion in 2023.

“Zambia must strategically position itself to derive maximum benefits from this pronouncement by; Signing bilateral and multilateral agreements to this effect….Setting up a venture capital fund for indigenous start ups in minerals related to electric vehicles (EV’s),” he said.

“Opening up a military industrial complex (MIC) to enhance Zambia’s production capacity….Financial sector reforms to support local indigenous hustles (small and medium businesses) to give them a comparative advantage.”

The GPZ leader further said Zambia’s policy makers must jump on this opportunity and make it a reality based on “equality, respect and mutual benefit”.

THE BALLOT BOX UNDER SIEGE: CHALLENGES TO ZAMBIA’S ELECTORAL INTEGRITY WITH ONE YEAR TO GO-Dingindaba Jonah Buyoya

THE BALLOT BOX UNDER SIEGE: CHALLENGES TO ZAMBIA’S ELECTORAL INTEGRITY WITH ONE YEAR TO GO

By Dingindaba Jonah Buyoya

As the country prepares itself for the 2026 election, we are about to see an increase in political discourse among citizens. Part of that discourse, unfortunately, will be manipulated by invisible hands from lands far, far away. This is perhaps the most ironic part of elections; that they are ideally supposed to be the pinnacle of sovereignty but also tend to have a lot of foreign influence from “global superpowers”.

It is therefore important that we talk about the dangers that may come with disinformation in relation to elections, especially that we recently saw President Hakainde Hichilema being a victim of disinformation in a recent “news” article claiming that he was requesting refunds for unsuccessful visa fees in the EU and UK.

From a very surface level, elections in Africa appear to be influenced only by local factors like the cost of living, corruption, healthcare, freedoms of the people and similar indicators. The truth, however, is that national discussions can be externally influenced, whether that be when foreign forces launch well-orchestrated disinformation campaigns or when political parties heavily funded by foreign interests do not put their own people first.

Lessons from the Region

The past year saw several important elections across the world. In Southern Africa, we saw South Africa’s first coalition negotiations, Botswana’s peaceful transition of power and Mozambique’s post-election violence. These demonstrated both how strong democracy in the region is, but also how fragile it can be: so many things to be proud of, but some to be worried about too, because the global trend of democratic backsliding is creeping into even Africa’s most stable democracies.

In this environment, external actors seeking to influence domestic politics, often to serve their own strategic and economic interests, are an increasing concern. This is one of the things Zambia needs to be on high alert to as the country heads to the polls next year. If our elections are to represent the will of the people, then the process must also be driven by the people. This should not be limited to votes, but influence too.

The wide-ranging experiences of other African nations, which have seen both funding and disinformation weaponised against democratic processes, serve as key examples. In the Central African Republic (CAR), Russian operatives financed President Touadéra’s campaign in 2020 and subsequently secured favourable mining contracts, while in Madagascar, a BBC investigation uncovered cash bribes offered to presidential candidates. Taking a more economic approach, China has been known to plan strategic high-profile investments to coincide with elections where favourable incumbents seek another term.

Foreign private companies have also been involved when it comes to manipulating the public discourse: Israeli firm ‘Team Jorge’, for example, has reportedly spread disinformation to influence at least 20 recent African elections. Zambia must be alert to the whole range of challenges if we are to protect our electoral integrity.

The Weaponization of Disinformation

Disinformation has become a powerful tool to destabilize electoral processes, and Zambia is not immune. Followers of online news probably came across a story recently claiming that President Hakainde Hichilema’s government was demanding refunds for unsuccessful EU and UK visa applications. This was so viral that it reached millions of people. It just shows how quickly external narratives can be weaponized to undermine public trust.

This fake story could have been much worse! Remember that in weak governance environments, where corruption and inequality remain unresolved, disinformation narratives gain traction. The 2024 Afrobarometer report found that while a majority of Africans still support elections as the best way to choose leaders, enthusiasm for electoral participation has declined, partly due to manipulated information ecosystems.

Foreign-sponsored disinformation campaigns, which have nearly quadrupled since 2022, often exploit existing grievances, social divisions, and institutional weaknesses to sow mistrust in democratic processes.
Beyond state-level manipulation, gendered disinformation also poses a growing threat to democracy by deterring women from political participation.

Gender activist Imelda Molokomme has emphasized that the advancement of democracy requires increased representation of women in positions of power. Yet, more than 70% of influential South African women surveyed in 2023 reported online abuse and harassment, while studies from the 2024 South African elections revealed targeted misinformation narratives portraying women leaders as unfit to govern.

Financing or Interference?

In a recent documentary on the current state of Southern Africa’s democracies, long-time Zambian diplomat Lazarous Kapambwe argued another key point: elections cannot really be free and fair if excessive funding comes from foreign interests. Kapambwe served as diplomat to the UN, US, Ethiopia and the AU.

“The financing [of political parties] determines how effective you can be in your participation because you have to reach all the areas of our countries … and if you have to campaign, you have to campaign in every country in every part of the country.

Until we address the issue of how to fund [and] how to sustain political parties, we cannot really have a completely free and fair electoral process in any country; because the danger we have is that we leave space for foreigners to finance and therefore interfere in our political processes, and there is no such thing as a free lunch and it is not always in your interest, what the funder may want.”

That is a very strong, but profound, statement.

Democracy is stronger when participants of the process actually have a voice. In the case of Zambia, political parties are not mandated to declare where their funding is coming from. This means no one would ever know who is funding our political leadership and in turn, no one knows what is being given in exchange for this funding.

Former President of Botswana Ian Khama stressed that a ruling party has a higher chance at getting funding because of the power dynamics. The line of thought clearly demonstrates how influential funding can be to the outcome of elections.

We cannot, however, ignore the fact that interference in elections succeeds largely because Africa’s own political class is susceptible to external manipulation. Scholars like Paul Nugent and Staffan Lindberg in their respective publications on African elections have shown that vote buying, ballot rigging, and manipulation are often internally driven but create vulnerabilities for external influence. It is very clear that many African states have systemic weaknesses like dishonesty, patronage, and mediocrity and that makes them highly susceptible to both domestic and foreign manipulation.

What Zambia Must Do Now

As our country approaches its own elections, the task ahead is clear. The fight against foreign interference cannot be left to government alone. It requires coordinated action by civil society, the media, the private sector, and the wider citizenry. Public awareness campaigns that educate citizens on the mechanics of disinformation and foreign meddling are now very important. Partnerships with social media platforms, similar to those piloted by South Africa’s Electoral Commission, can also help contain the spread of harmful narratives.

USA ISSUES HEALTH ALERT OVER ACUTE HEAVY METAL POISONING ON THE COPPERBELT

THE United States of America Embassy in Lusaka has issued a health alert to its citizens on the acute heavy metal poisoning on the Copperbelt caused by Sino Metals.

In a health alert shared with Daily Revelation, the Embassy urged U.S citizens in the vicinity of the Sino Metals Leach Mine in Chambishi and downstream areas to take precautions against acute heavy metal poisoning.

“On February 18, 2025, the tailings dam at the Sino Metals Leach Mine in Chambishi collapsed, releasing 50 million litres of acidic and toxic waste, including heavy metals, into the Mwambashi stream and Kafue River ecosystem,” the Embassy stated.

“Since the incident, there have been public reports of widespread dead fish and illness consistent with acute heavy metal poisoning among people living along the Mwambashi stream and immediate downstream areas.”

The informed that symptoms of acute heavy metal poisoning can be found the CDC and OSHA websites.

“Actions To Take: Avoid the immediate area around the Sino Metals Leach Mine in Chambishi, specifically downstream areas along the Mwambashi stream and Kafue River for at least 24 kilometres (15 miles). Avoid river water for at least 100 kilometres (62 miles) from the spill site, and avoid all natural water sources (i.e., river, borehole/groundwater, etc.) within a 20 kilometer radius of the Sino Metals Leach Mine,” the Embassy stated.

“Use and drink only safe water. Please note that boiling water does not remove heavy metals. Distillation may reduce the presence of most heavy metals in water.”

They also urged against consuming fish sourced from or which are likely to have come through the affected area.

The Last Dance of ECL – A Race Well Run

By Amb. Anthony Mukwita— Mukwita on Point

The Daily Nation on Friday.

On 5 June 2025, a dark pall descended upon Zambia. Word filtered through from Pretoria that Edgar Chagwa Lungu—our sixth Republican President—had breathed his last.

By his bedside was his devoted wife and lifelong friend, Madam Esther Nyawa Lungu, who had only just marked her birthday three days earlier. It was a moment of profound sorrow.

At 68, President Lungu was more than a politician—he was a husband, a father, a friend to many, and a quiet unifier of a divided land.

Like millions of Zambians, I mourn. But I also carry the heavy privilege of mourning a man I knew personally for over two decades.

From my early days as a young journalist, through to my time as a diplomat appointed by his hand to represent Zambia in Stockholm and Berlin, I bore witness to his warmth, his humour, and his deeply empathetic heart.

I often wonder what he saw in me—why he took me under his wing like a broken bird and never let go.

But I thank God he did. In our many long, candid conversations—some at odd hours—I encountered not just a President, but a priestly soul, always willing to listen, forgive, guide, and pray with you.

President Lungu was a man of deep compassion, perhaps shaped by his own humble beginnings as the son of Ranger Padule Saili Lungu and Madam Tasila, born in Ndola Central Hospital.

When a Catholic priest di£d in Austria and needed help returning home, I placed a call to the President. Within hours, the support was in place—quietly, swiftly, without fanfare. He had a heart that hurt when others hurt.

When a Catholic priest died in Austria and needed help returning home, I placed a call to the President. Within hours, the support was in place—quietly, swiftly, without fanfare. He had a heart that hurt when others hurt.

That spirit birthed Against All Odds, the first and only official biography of President Lungu, which I was honoured to write. He told me simply, “Yes ba Tony—write. We need to challenge you guys to start writing, lets tell our own Zambian story.”

Through that book, his desire to be remembered as “an ordinary man who became President” came alive—a man who demystified leadership and inspired possibility.

I remember once, while driving from Prague to Berlin, my son Lubinda answered a call on my behalf. “Sorry Dad is driving, sir, please call back later,” he said.

When I asked who it was, he replied, “Just the President.” Later, ECL laughed it off: “Your son was right—you can’t drive and talk.” That was him—always humane, always grounding the mighty in the everyday.

Lunch with him felt less like a state duty and more like catching up with a favourite uncle.

He had flaws like any man, but his empathy and humility overwhelmed them. Even in political turbulence after his presidency, what endured in him was kindness—not bitterness.

As you read this, we stand on the eve of laying him to eternal rest. The man who built roads, airports, and unity—now makes his final journey. Zambia mourns a father; heaven gains a gentle soul.

Lessons from the Exit of ECL
On 10 June, I read with interest that President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa—where President Lungu passed—was calling for a National Dialogue to reconcile a divided nation. “Poverty, unemployment and inequality are deep wounds,” Ramaphosa said.

I couldn’t help but think: is this not also the Zambia we now face?
In our own hour of grief and division, could we not borrow a page from South Africa? Is it not time to consider a ‘Zambia National Dialogue’—one that brings together all stripes of our nation to heal, reconcile and chart a new path?

I have long advocated for dialogue, whether in Palestine-Israel, Ukraine-Russia, or right here at home. Not because it is easy or popular—but because peace is always the harder, nobler choice. C0nflict is a zero-sum game; nobody truly wins.

As we mourn ECL, we must also ask: how do we honour him? Not just with flags and funerals, but with a commitment to unity. That’s why I believe, like my big brother KBF, that now is the time for the Church to take the lead—impartially, prayerfully—and bring together all parties.

Calm hearts on both sides, lay down the arms and make love.

The state must sit down with Madam Esther Lungu, a woman beloved by millions. Her grief deserves our respect. There is room, in this fragile moment, for sincere apologies, reconciliatory gestures, and the beginning of something redemptive.

We are not too proud to learn from South Africa. President Hichilema—the Don H—has the power and moral authority to lead this effort. A national roundtable is not weakness. It is wisdom.

President Lungu was a man of peace. Let us bury him in peace.

And in doing so, may we resurrect the spirit of national unity he tried so hard to uphold.

Long live the memory of Edgar Chagwa Lungu. May his last dance inspire our first steps toward healing.

Ambassador Anthony Mukwita is a published author, international relations analyst, and author of Against All Odds: President Edgar Lungu’s Rough Journey to State House.

The Lungu family, the family of late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, is now receiving support from far places, including Malawi.

Incoming President of Malawi Peter Mutharika has charged that it would be wrong to deny the Lungu family a chance to mourn their loved one in a manner satisfying to them.

In a statement to The Zambian Post, Mutharika is describing Lungu as a man of great dignity, humility who had unwavering commitment to public service.

Mutharika recalls working closely with Edgar Lungu on bilateral and multilateral relations, noting Lungu’s wise counsel, steady leadership, and dedication to the people of Zambia.

Meanwhile Namadingo, Malawi’s most influential artist, posted on X, stating that the #EdgarLungu family has the right to mourn their loved one in their own way without government interference

Nelly and Ashanti reveal they ‘hated’ each other before they reconciled

Nelly and Ashanti have had their own share of ups and downs in their relationship. Prior to rekindling their romance in 2023, the couple were not on good terms, and they recently opened up about that period in a trailer for their new reality show, Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together.

The trailer was released on Thursday, and it shows the couple touching on their on-again, off-again relationship that lasted for more than a decade before they ultimately patched things up two years ago.

“We were together off and on for 11 years, before the final [sic]…” Ashanti, 44, said after they started dating in 2003, per PEOPLE. “I hated her,” Nelly, 50, added before Ashanti said she also “hated him.”

“I didn’t think that we would get back together,” she continued. “She got me y’all,” Nelly jokingly said. “He wanted to get got,” Ashanti chimed in.

It appears all is going well for the couple as they secretly tied the knot after rekindling their relationship. They also welcomed their son, Kareem Kenkaide Haynes, in 2024.

As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Nelly confirmed he and Ashanti were an item again during a 2023 interview with Love and Hip Hop’s Rasheeda and Kirk Frost on her Boss Moves With Rasheeda podcast.

“We cool again,” Nelly told the host. “I think it surprised both of us.” The Ride Wit Me rapper also said “It wasn’t anything that was planned.” Nelly and the Rock Wit U (Awww Baby) singer had reportedly been linked as a couple over the years – though they hadn’t opened up about that.

“We both were pretty much doing what we do,” Nelly said. “But sometimes being separate, you understand one another more. You could be like, ‘Well yo, let me exactly see maybe what they see.’ We all can be defensive sometimes in our own relationships. We know we wrong but we going to stand on it, you know what I mean? But we all a victim to that.”

Asked if the rekindling of their relationship felt great at that point in time, Nelly said yes. “I mean, because it’s no pressure,” he said. “Before I felt like both of us are doing what we’re doing before career-wise, And when you got so many people in the middle of it, it can be tough.”

Jay-Z has officially lost his $1M bet on OKC beating the Pacers in 5 after Indiana won game 3 last night

Jay-Z’s big money moves are about opening casinos in New York City and getting that NFL bag, so a million isn’t a massive hit for him.
Jay-Z often gets hate for his sports-related moves, but rarely do they backfire on him in a direct way. That is, unless we’re talking about an unsuccessful bet. According to TMZ, he put a whopping $1 million on the line and predicted the Oklahoma City Thunder would beat the Indiana Pacers in the 2025 NBA Finals in five games.

Unfortunately for Hov, the Pacers won game three last night (Wednesday, June 11), putting them up 2-1 against the Thunder. So we’re either going to six or seven games. But fortunately for him, a million dollars isn’t much in the grand scheme of his billions.

If the Roc Nation mogul had actually been successful with this bet, he would’ve walked away with $3.3 million. But thanks to big performances from Tyrese Haliburton, Bennedict Mathurin, Pascal Siakam, and more, Jay-Z will have to make another bet if he wants a plus payout.

However, we can’t blame Jay for his confidence. The 2025 NBA Finals have been very surprising so far, with game-winning shots, blowouts, killer defense, and coaching adjustments throwing fans for a loop. If it keeps up like this and we get more close games, anyone who complained about small markets or particular players’ “superstar” status is in for a rude awakening.

Rubio orders global purge of USAID staff as Trump administration pushes ahead with reorganization

0

In a sweeping move that escalates the Trump administration’s dismantling of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday directed American embassies worldwide to terminate all remaining USAID personnel, with the State Department assuming control of foreign aid operations by Monday.

The directive arrives amid legal uncertainty. A federal judge has temporarily blocked President Donald Trump’s broader executive order mandating mass firings across several federal agencies, including State. Plaintiffs in the case argue that Rubio’s latest action may violate that injunction.

However, the administration contends the reorganization predates the order. “So there’s no possible violation,” they insist. U.S. District Judge Susan Illston has yet to issue a ruling on the matter.

State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce downplayed the development.

“So this was a cable, telling our posts exactly what they were expecting to be told, which is that those positions were being eliminated. So it wasn’t a surprise. It’s nothing new,” she said. “And, it is exactly what we previewed, in February and March of this year.”

Rubio’s message instructed all diplomatic posts to follow through with the plan “to abolish all USAID overseas positions” by the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30.

The final phase of terminations marks the near-total shutdown of USAID, once the primary arm of U.S. foreign assistance.

More than 10,000 staff and contractors have been targeted in the shake-up, orchestrated jointly by the Trump administration and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), the Elon Musk-led agency tasked with eliminating what they call bureaucratic redundancy.

Texas man who fatally shot fiancée and lived with body for days said he ‘wanted to lay with’ her

0

A52-year-old Texas man has been charged after he allegedly shot and killed his fiancée following an argument and stayed with the victim’s body for three days.

According to FOX 4, the suspect, identified as William Joseph Oddo III, claimed he opened fire on 39-year-old LaVera Wardell after they got into an altercation in their Denton apartment. He claimed that he shot his fiancée after she charged at him with a knife, documents stated.

Authorities ultimately found Wardell’s body almost two weeks after she was killed, and that was after a concerned person notified authorities about a foul smell emanating from the couple’s apartment.

In the wake of her killing, Oddo stayed with his deceased fiancée for a few days before authorities ultimately found her body in their apartment on May 19.

Authorities claim that Oddo, after killing Wardell, tried to conceal evidence by cleaning bloodstains in the apartment to avoid the discovery of the victim’s body. An arrest affidavit also stated that on May 13, surveillance footage captured Oddo going to several places to buy cleaning materials. That was a week after he allegedly killed his fiancée.

The arrest affidavit stated that authorities established blood evidence that had spilled on the apartment’s walls and floor had been cleaned, FOX 4 reported. Oddo is said to have confirmed he was the one who cleaned the apartment, and he did so because he “wanted to lay with” his deceased fiancée.

Oddo later left the apartment, and he told police that the smell in the apartment had caused him to do that. Authorities ultimately arrested him at a Mount Pleasant motel on June 2.

Oddo has since been charged with murder and tampering with evidence. He was being held on a $160,000 bond at the time of this report. The Denton Police Department also said the couple had previously been involved in domestic violence incidents, and authorities had been notified about those cases.

Porsha Williams wins $40k monthly alimony, Rolls-Royce, and stake in $7M mansion from Simon Guobadia in divorce settlement

In a decisive victory for Porsha Williams, a judge has ruled in favor of the Real Housewives of Atlanta star in her divorce proceedings against Simon Guobadia.

The ruling was delivered during a virtual court hearing on June 11, 2025. The ruling enforced the couple’s prenuptial agreement and granted Porsha substantial financial and property benefits.

Porsha was awarded $40,000 per month in alimony for the next 14 to 15 months. Additionally, Guobadia must cover her legal fees and transfer ownership of a Rolls-Royce he previously gifted her.

The court also addressed the couple’s $7 million mansion, originally Guobadia’s premarital property.

Williams has until 2027 to decide whether to stay in the home or sell it. Should she choose to remain, she must refinance the property and buy out Guobadia’s 50% equity share.

Until then, Guobadia will continue to cover the home’s expenses, including mortgage payments.

Williams filed for divorce in February 2024, just 15 months after the couple’s wedding. During the nearly 10-hour hearing saw no direct interaction between Williams and Guobadia.

Guobadia recently left the States and returned to Nigeria after he was detained and deported by ICE. Sources report that Guobadia left the proceedings visibly upset and is now contemplating an appeal, with a 30-day window to challenge the ruling.

South Sudan churches declare 70 days of fasting and prayers to mark 70 years since war broke out in Torit

As of June 9, 2025, churches across South Sudan have initiated 70 days of fasting and prayer, a spiritual campaign to foster peace in the world’s youngest nation.

The effort, announced by Rev. Tut Kony Nyang Kon, general secretary of the South Sudan Council of Churches, commemorates the 70th anniversary of the Torit Mutiny.

The Torit Mutiny began on August 18, 1955, when the Equatoria Corps rebelled against Anglo-Egyptian rule, igniting the first Sudanese civil war.

The fasting and prayer initiative which began on June 9 is set to conclude on August 17, 2025, and reflects a communal bid to heal a nation still grappling with instability.

This significant milestone underscores decades of conflict, including the Second Sudanese Civil War (1983-2005), which claimed approximately 2 million lives and displaced 4 million people, according to the Uppsala Conflict Data Program.

Recent reports from the United Nations indicate over 2.3 million South Sudanese refugees as of June 2025, amid ongoing ethnic tensions and severe food insecurity.

The campaign comes amid a fragile peace process, strained by a 2018 ceasefire that was violated within hours of its signing.

Ryan Gosling not tapped to play Black Panther amid viral rumor

Social media recently went abuzz as several users registered their displeasure with a report claiming that White actor Ryan Gosling had been tapped by Marvel to recast the Black Panther.

In the first movie, Chadwick Boseman was initially cast as T’Challa and the Black Panther – the Black superhero and king of the fictional African country of Wakanda. But after he sadly passed away in August 2020, Marvel announced it was not going to recast King T’Challa in the Black Panther sequel.

Boseman’s co-star, Letitia Wright, who played his sister Shuri in the first installment, was ultimately cast as the Black Panther in the sequel. It also appears Marvel has no plans to cast Gosling, 44, as the Black Panther as TMZ reported that an insider with direct knowledge said those rumors were untrue. The insider also said the Barbie star had not even been considered.

The rumors in question started making waves online after a 2018 photoshopped image of Gosling as the Black Panther was circulated again. The image was initially circulated by people to protest Disney’s casting of Black actors in projects whose characters were originally White.

So the rumors of Gosling being cast as the Black Panther got some people feeling the movie was going to lose its original script and cultural value. But it appears that will not happen.

The yet-to-be-released Avengers: Doomsday will see Wright reprising her role as the Black Panther. Gosling, on the other hand, has been tapped to star in Star Wars: Starfighter.

Following Boseman’s death, several Black Panther fans petitioned Marvel to recast King T’Challa, Face2Face Africa reported in 2021. In an interview with TMZ, Chadwick’s older brother, Derrick Boseman, also said the deceased actor would totally be in support of another actor taking up the superhero role he made famous.

Derrick said Chadwick would have approved a King T’Challa recast as his late brother felt the character was much bigger than just him. Derrick said Chadwick was well aware of the overwhelmingly positive influence and power the character yielded, so Marvel killing that role in the wake of his brother’s death would seemingly strip Black children of a role model.

Derrick also told TMZ that with Black children not being exposed to many positive influences, Marvel had the opportunity to play its part in filling that void by recasting King T’Challa – a character he described as a “symbol of Black people’s potential.”

And though Derrick clarified that Chadwick never stated he wanted the character he once played to be recast, he said he was sure his late brother would approve of bringing King T’Challa back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

North Korea pledge to provide Military Support to Iran amid looming war with Israel

0

North Korea has reportedly pledge to supply some undisclosed number of military support to Iran in their ongoing battle against Israel.

North Korea president, Kim Jong Un has earlier expressed his solidarity with Iran against Israel.

Historically, North Korea is one of the countries that has collaborated with Iran when issues of attacks pop up.

They mostly Collaborated on missile technology and recently, it was noted that North Korea hasn’t backed down on their relationship with Iran.

Just hours ago, Israel conducted a series of airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, ballistic missile sites, and military leadership.

Reports indicate that a highly precise Israeli missile targeted the home of an Iranian commander in Tehran, piercing through a wall and causing significant internal damage.

This alone highlights the huge tension that is about to escalate between the two long existing rivals.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a statement, condemned the strikes that he considered a severe unprovoked attack on his country.

Iran has promised to take their revenge and hit Israel in a more dangerous manner and with the support of a powerful country like North Korea, we may be witnessing something interesting.

Tyler Perry Defends Exploiting Black Women’s Trauma and Pain in His Films, Including “Straw”

Tyler Perry addresses criticism over how he portrays African American women in his films, including his latest Netflix release, Straw. He says his work reflects real struggles and honors the women in his life.

Tyler Perry, after nearly 30 films, isn’t bothered by critics who say his movies focus too much on Black women’s hardships. In his new film, Straw, starring Taraji P. Henson as a mother fighting to save her sick child, Perry embraces this focus.

“I say nothing to those people who think that my films focus on the struggle of Black women, because they’re right. It does,” Perry said in an interview with True Love Magazine.

He explained that showing Black women honestly, with all their strengths and challenges, is his way of paying tribute.

“What I’m doing is a service to all people, so that people will know that Black women are not just strong and one thing; they are all things, and they go through all of these different things.”

According to The Grio, the release of Straw has brought back old debates about Perry’s portrayals. His films, from Madea to Diary of a Mad Black Woman and Acrimony, often show Black women in extremes, either strong or broken, loving or bitter, without much in between.

Perry explained that his stories come from real people, such as his mother, aunt, sisters, and friends. “To have an opportunity to be able to paint all of these pictures and all sides was something that I’m paying homage to my mother, to my aunt, to my sisters and friends and cousins and the things that they all went through,” he said.

He’s also been open about his past. Perry and his mother, Maxine, suffered abuse from his stepfather. In 2020, a DNA test revealed that Emmitt Perry, the man he thought was his father, wasn’t biologically related to him. He tells more of that story in his documentary Maxine’s Baby.

Despite criticism, Perry’s films keep attracting audiences and building his success. Taraji P. Henson, who stars in Straw and has worked with Perry many times, supports his approach.

“He doesn’t just pull this out of thin air. Those characters are real; Tyler Perry doesn’t just pull this out of the sky. These women exist. These people exist and they need to see themselves and they need to know that they’re not alone and that people do see them,” she told The Breakfast Club.

When asked about backlash, Henson said, “I think that’s their own trauma that is triggered.” She believes Perry’s films start necessary conversations. “That’s why I’ll never stop working with him,” she added.

Trump Now Wants to Let Undocumented Immigrants Stay to Prevent Farm Labor Shortage

After days of deploying troops to Los Angeles to deal with immigration riots, President Trump is now saying that he plans to ease his administration’s strict deportation policies to address a growing farm labor shortage caused by mass immigration raids. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he is considering changes to protect undocumented workers in agriculture, hospitality, and leisure industries—sectors he acknowledged have been hit hard by the deportation of long-term employees. The statement marks a significant shift in tone from his prior hardline stance on undocumented immigrants.

USA Today reports that Trump’s comments follow reports that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers have recently expanded arrests to include non-violent undocumented workers, not just those with criminal records. “Our great Farmers and people in the Hotel and Leisure business have been stating that our very aggressive policy on immigration is taking very good, long-time workers away from them,” Trump wrote. He acknowledged that these workers are often irreplaceable and have contributed decades of labor.

While Trump blamed the labor shortage on President Biden’s “open borders policy,” critics pointed out the contradiction in his message. “Step 1: Trump creates a problem. Step 2: Blames it on Joe Biden, who isn’t even president. Step 3: Posts a rant about his solution — which doesn’t actually offer a solution,” Rep. Pramila Jayapal posted on X. She added, “Yes, our country and economy rely on immigrants. How is he just figuring that out?”

Trump said he is working on an executive order that will take a “common-sense” approach to the issue. “We can’t take farmers, take all their people and send them back because they don’t have maybe what they’re supposed to have,” he said during a White House event. He added that many of these workers “have turned out to be great,” despite lacking legal status.

Roughly 42% of U.S. farm workers between 2020 and 2022 were undocumented, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Yet under Trump’s second term, ICE has ramped up deportations to 3,000 arrests per day, more than triple earlier quotas. The crackdown has triggered chaotic scenes across the country, including tactical raids on restaurants and farms in California.

Adding to the controversy, the Trump Organization itself has a history of employing undocumented labor. A 2019 Washington Post investigation found that at least 48 current and former Trump property employees—including housekeepers, waiters, and landscapers—were undocumented. Despite the crackdown, Trump’s latest remarks suggest a softening of that policy when business interests are at stake.

Iran officially withdraws from nuclear talks with the United States

Iran has announced that it has concluded plans withdrawal from nuclear negotiations with the United States.

The Islamic state is scheduled for another round of talks with the Donald Trump led United States administration but that wouldn’t be happening anymore.

The decision to withdraw from the talks came following Israeli military strikes on Iranian nuclear and military sites.

The attack was also followed by Iran’s retaliatory drone attack which someohow have been nullified by Israel.

The scheduled talk was aimed to revive the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which limited Iran’s nuclear activities.

The US aimed to agree a deal in exchange for sanctions relief but those talks collapsed after the U.S. exit in 2018 under President Trump.

Heightened tensions, including Israel’s reported killing of Iranian Revolutionary Guard chief Hossein Salami and nuclear scientists, prompted Iran’s decision.

The U.S. had proposed a deal allowing limited uranium enrichment, but Iran rejected it, citing its right to nuclear technology and distrust of U.S. intentions.

Russia warns it’s citizens to refrain from travelling to Iran or Israel as Putin doesn’t want to have a hand in ongoing fued

0

The ongoing tension between Iran and Israel has forced Russia to send a great advice to it’s citizens.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry has advised its citizens to avoid traveling to Iran and Israel at the moment.

The warning is due to heightened regional tensions, particularly following Israeli airstrikes and the potential for further escalation.

The ministry urged Russians in these countries to follow safety protocols and stay updated via embassy communications.

This warning is with respect to similar advisories from other nations, like the UK, France, and Germany.

All these countries are looking out for the safety of their citizens amid fears of retaliatory actions linked to the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict.

Israel strike iran with missiles targeting multiple military bases, nuclear sites and military leaders residence earlier.

It is expected that Iran will return the favor and their Supreme Leader has already made a promise to strike back.

Russia on the other hand is still battling with Ukraine and remained focused on their mission against finding an agreement with their neighbors.

The country is not interested in picking sides in the ongoing Iran – Israel conflict and has warmed citizens to be vigilant.

Trump says Iranian officials are calling him to discuss the situation with Israel

President Donald Trump has made a claim concerning the ongoing fued between Israel and Iran.

The United States president in an NBC News interview stated that Iranian officials have been calling him to discuss a way out of the ongoing fued.

He said the call came for his administration to act on the situation following Israel’s military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and ballistic missile program.

These strikes, described as unilateral by U.S. officials, targeted key Iranian sites like the Natanz enrichment facility and resulted in the deaths of nuclear scientists and military commanders.

Trump’s statement suggests potential backchannel communication with Tehran amid escalating regional tensions.

However, there is no official confirmation from Iran reported concerning if they truly contact Donald Trump or Not.

The White House had planned a sixth round of nuclear talks in Oman, but these are now considered unlikely due to the recent strikes.

Trump has publicly urged Iran to negotiate a nuclear deal, warning of severe consequences if they fail to do so, while also expressing support for Israel’s actions.

US Senator, a Critic of Trump’s immigration raid policy handcuffed and dragged out of conference room for asking a question

0

A United States Senator, Alex Padilla of California who belongs to the Democratic party was forcibly removed form a conference in some controversial manner.

The Democratic senator was shoved to the ground, and handcuffed by federal security agents during a press conference in Los Angeles held by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

Padilla, known as a vocal critic of the Trump administration’s immigration policies, attempted to ask a question about immigration raids and protests in the city.

Video footage shows him identifying himself, saying, “I’m Senator Alex Padilla. I have questions for the secretary,” before being pushed out of the room, forced face-down in a hallway, and handcuffed.

His office stated he was exercising congressional oversight and was not detained or arrested afterward.

The incident however sparked outrage among Democrats, with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and California Governor Gavin Newsom condemning the treatment.

They suggested that the incident reflects broader concerns about the administration’s response to dissent.

The Donald Trump administration and DHS defended the agents’ actions, claiming Padilla the senator did not identify himself clearly, and lacked his Senate security pin.

Ghanaian mother disciplines son in classroom for disrespecting his teachers

As the proverb says, spare the rod and spoil the child. Modern educational reforms have prevented teachers from using canes to correct children, however, parents are not bound by such laws.

In a video circulating on social media, a Ghanaian mother took the charge of disciplining her son in school after teachers failed to do so.

According to sources, the mother went to the school to punish her son after his disregard for school authorities.

The school authorities are bound by the Ghana Education Service not to issue copral punishment to students. They however say it needful to report to the child’s mother.

The mother, clearly infuriated by his son’s attitude stormed the local government school to issue the punishment himself.

In the video, the mother is seen issuing lashes to the boy while his mates hold onto him and stretch him on the desk.

The video has since sparked mixed reactions online. With some applauding the woman for correcting her child, some also feel it’s not right nor in her authority since it was in school.

R. Kelly Says Nazis Are Trying to Kill Him in Prison, Files Emergency Motion to Be Released

R. Kelly claims his life is at risk in prison and is asking for immediate release. His legal team says a murder plot involving prison staff and the Aryan Brotherhood was set in motion at the North Carolina prison where he’s serving a 30-year sentence for sex crimes.

According to TMZ, court papers include a sworn statement from Mikeal Glenn Stine, a terminally ill inmate and known Aryan Brotherhood leader. Stine says prison officials offered him freedom in exchange for killing Kelly. The alleged plan was for Stine to murder Kelly, take the blame, and then be quietly released or transferred.

Stine says he almost went through with the plot in March. He approached Kelly’s unit but backed out at the last moment. He later informed Kelly directly and said he’s willing to take a polygraph test and testify.

Now, Kelly’s lawyers say the danger has escalated. Another Aryan Brotherhood member has reportedly been ordered to kill both Kelly and Stine. The prison allegedly has several other gang members who could act on those orders.

Besides the emergency release motion, Kelly has also asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review his case. Beyond safety concerns, home confinement would also let him focus on his music and potentially continue his career.

Innocent Man in Prison For 10 Years Finally Released, Another Person Confesses to Crime

Kenneth Bullock, a 44-year-old African American man from Detroit, Michigan, has been released after spending over a decade in prison for a carjacking he didn’t commit. His conviction was overturned after another man confessed to the crime.

The case began in October 2011, when Yulanda Russell reported her 2012 Dodge Charger stolen outside her home in Detroit. Over a year later, undercover officers found the car listed online under a different model year. Undercover officers traced it to a seller named “Mike,” who was arrested during the operation.

While police were at the scene, Bullock arrived in a rental car, claiming the Charger belonged to him. He presented a fake car title and was also taken into custody. Days later, Russell picked Bullock out of a lineup, despite inconsistencies between his appearance and her initial description of the suspect.

According to Fox 2 Detroit, Bullock was charged and convicted of carjacking, armed robbery, and felony firearm possession. He received a 30 to 70-year sentence even though he continued to maintain his innocence.

The case took a turn when Jamare Rucker, a convicted murderer and gang member, confessed to stealing Russell’s vehicle. Investigators later discovered the car had passed through multiple people using forged titles. Bullock had no known connection to the original theft or those involved in the title fraud.

On May 28, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office dismissed the case, confirming Bullock had no role in the crime. He walked free after more than 10 years behind bars.

Jamie Foxx Tears Up During BET Awards Speech as He Reflects on Near-Fatal Stroke, Says His Daughters Saved His Life

Jamie Foxx broke down in tears while accepting the Ultimate Icon Honor at the 2025 BET Awards, opening up about his near-fatal stroke in 2023, his long recovery, and the support of his daughters that helped him survive.

The 57-year-old actor took the stage and talked about the darkest time he faced after suffering a brain bleed that caused his stroke. He quickly grew emotional, saying he once took life for granted but now sees it differently.

“I gotta be honest — when I saw the ‘in memoriam,’ I was like, man, that could have been me,” he shared through tears, according to the New York Post. “But I don’t know why I went through what I went through, but I know my second chance —I’m not going to turn down.”

Foxx told the audience he prayed to God for one more shot at life while he was in the hospital. “I said whatever reason you put this on me, I promise I’mma do right,” he said. He added that surviving the stroke made him more grateful and aware of his roots.

He gave heartfelt thanks to his daughters, Corinne, 31, and Anelise, 16. He said Corinne quietly took the lead during his health crisis. “You made sure I was here,” he told her.

Foxx also recalled a key moment with Anelise. At one point, his vitals were failing and doctors feared the worst. But Anelise came into his hospital room with her guitar and played music for him.

“And as she played the guitar, my vitals (improved),” he recalled. “And I realized God was in her guitar. The nurses ran in and said, ‘What did they give him?’ My daughter said, ‘Shh, I’ve got him.’”

Foxx was hospitalized in April 2023. In his 2024 Netflix special What Had Happened Was, he shared that he lost 20 days of memory and called it the worst year of his life.

Since then, he has returned to acting and even earned a Golden Globe nomination for his comedy comeback.

Kanye West Legally Changes Name for the Second Time, Now Goes by “Ye Ye”

Kanye West has legally changed his name for the second time. After becoming “Ye” in 2021, new business documents filed in California now show his name as “Ye Ye.”

According to The U.S. Sun, the updated name appears in filings submitted by his CFO, Hussain Lalani, to the California Secretary of State. One of West’s main companies, Ox Paha Inc., which manages his trademarks, now officially lists him as “Ye Ye.” Other related businesses, including Yeezy Apparel and his music firms, have also updated his name across documents.

West hasn’t posted about the new name yet. His last name-related update came on June 1, when he posted on X (formerly Twitter) that he was leaving his @kanyewest handle because he now goes by Ye. He said, “Ima finally stop using the @kanyewest twitter cause my name is Ye… Gonna start a ye account and it is what it is.”

Back in 2018, West first shared he was dropping “Kanye” and preferred “Ye,” which was also the name of his 2018 album. He later filed official paperwork in 2021 and had the name change legally approved by a judge.

In 2024, his chief of staff Milo Yiannopoulos sent letters to companies asking them to stop using the name “Kanye West” altogether. His staff has emphasized that “Ye” reflects his identity and called on platforms to update his name everywhere, rejecting his birth name as a “slave name.”

A RESPONSE TO PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’S STATEMENT ON ECL’S UNTIMELY DEMISE – Sean Tembo

A RESPONSE TO PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’S STATEMENT ON ECL’S UNTIMELY DEMISE

By Sean Tembo – PeP President & TONSE ALLIANCE Spokesperson

1. If l was given an opportunity to describe in one word, President Hakainde Hichilema’s last evening’s address to the nation, regarding late former President Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s funeral, l would say “deficient’.

2. The President’s speech was deficient, not because it came 7 days late. Not because it lacked empathy. Not because it appeared prerecorded and ended abruptly. Not because it was delivered an hour later than scheduled. No.

3. President Hakainde Hichilema’s speech was deficient because it failed to give the way forward regarding the current empasse between ECL’s family and the Government of Zambia. Before we get caught in a long-winded debate regarding this deadlock, it is important to outline a few facts.

4. It is a fact that Government had announced that the remains of the late former President Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu will be in Zambia, from South Africa, on Wednesday, 11th June 2025. It is a fact that the remains are not yet in Zambia because Government and the ECL family have not been able to agree on the modalities of the funeral.

5. It is a fact that the ECL family is willing to get the late former President a state funeral, but would like to retain control of the funeral program in terms of where the church services are held (Catholic Parishes in Ndola, Lusaka and Petauke), who speaks at the funeral and who is not allowed to attend (President Hakainde Hichilema). These are the main demands of the ECL family. The question is; are these demands unreasonable, to the extent that they should be a basis for an empasse between ECL’s family and the Government?

6. Country men and women, it is also a fact that President Hakainde Hichilema is the Head of State. The same State that currently has an empasse with ECL’s family. So when he had an opportunity to address the nation last evening, President Hakainde Hichilema had a duty and obligation to address the elephant in the room, which is the empasse between is Government and the ECL family.

7. When some of us decided to tune in to ZNBC and watch the President’s address to the nation, we did so with the expectation that at the end of the said address, the deadlock between ECL’s family and President Hakainde Hichilema’s Government would be resolved. That President Hakainde Hichilema would tell the nation, the position of his Government on the three key demands of the ECL family.

8. It was our expectation that President Hakainde Hichilema would end his address to the nation by allaying our anxiety and telling us a tentative date when ECL’s body would arrive in the country, tentative date for funeral, as well as possible extension to the national mourning period, which expires tomorrow. But alas, the President’s address to the nation ended without addressing any of the issues that have brought about this deadlock, except for threats against those of us who are willing and capable of challenging his unreasonable behavior and the unreasonable behavior of his Government.

9. At this point, it is important to ask a few direct questions to President Hakainde Hichilema, vis-a-vis the demands of ECL’s family. Firstly, since the ECL family donot want HH to attend ECL’s funeral, what is so difficult with HH accepting to stay away from ECL’s funeral? President Hakainde Hichilema’s silence about this demand by the family, means that he does not agree with it. So the question is why? Why is it so important to HH to see ECL’s body?

10. Secondly, the family has demanded that they will privately repatriate ECL’s body from South Africa, and only hand it over to the State at the port of entry, or simply put, at the airport. The question to President Hakainde Hichilema is; what is wrong with that demand? Why is Government insisting to take possession of ECL’s body in South Africa? Why is it so important to Government that they should have a private moment with ECL’s body between the time that it is collected from the South African hospital mortuary and where it will lie in state in Zambia? Why?

11. Thirdly, the ECL family has demanded that it must have control of the funeral program. More specifically, which churches the church service is held, who speaks at such church service, in what order, etcetera. The question to President Hakainde Hichilema is; what is so difficult with agreeing to this family demand, such that it should be a basis for this protracted deadlock? Why does President Hakainde Hichilema feel entitled to take over the entire program of ECL’s funeral, in the same manner and fashion that he took over Hon Edith Nawakwi’s funeral, despite perpetually harassing Nawakwi throughout her life, with Police raids and court cases?

12. To properly understand the basis of ECL family’s demands, it is important to dwell a little bit on the background of ECL’s illness, and the behavior of President Hakainde Hichilema’s Government during this period. For me, as a close personal friend of the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, l know for sure that it was not the withdrawal of his benefits as a former Head of State that pained him. If anything, ECL did not care about that, and l also believe that his family equally did not care about that.

13. What pained ECL the most was the restriction of his movements by President Hakainde Hichilema’s Government. Specifically his being prevented from seeking medical attention on three different occasions starting from 2022. At one point, President Hakainde Hichilema’s Government agents pulled ECL out of a South African bound flight like a common criminal, despite his pleas that he needed to seek medical attention. ECL challenged these wanton actions of President Hakainde Hichilema and his Government, in the Lusaka High Court, but the case did not go anywhere. The records are there. And yet, when all this harassment was happening, ECL still had his immunity and was not on house arrest. So the question is; on what legal basis did President Hakainde Hichilema and his Government restrict ECL’s movements, other than abuse of power?

14. Even for the late former Republican President Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu to find himself in South Africa, he had to literally sneak out. He booked his flight merely two hours before boarding time, and timed it in such a way as to coincide with the arrival at the airport of the United Nations Special Rapateur for Freedom of Speech, Dr. Ireen Khan. He literally sneaked out of his own country like a fugitive, in order to try and save his own life by seeking medical treatment in South Africa. Then today, President Hakainde Hichilema and his Government must claim that they need ECL’s body because he was a statesman? APresident, tapapata pulizi, musatichimwise ise.

15. During one of the various telephone conversations that I had with ECL during his medical stay in South Africa, he mentioned to me that the doctors had told him that he was two years too late for his cancer treatment. When ECL told me that, tears drowned my face and l could not control my voice anymore because it dawned on me that, had President Hakainde Hichilema allowed him to leave the country to seek medical attention, when he first  attempted to do so about 3 years ago, ECL’s cancer would have been successfully treated. Therefore, there is no doubt in my mind that President Hakainde Hichilema and his Government significantly contributed to the death of late former President Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu. That’s a fact.

16. But the important question that is lingering on the minds of the Zambian people is; what’s the way forward? Yes, mistakes were made and a life was unnecessarily lost, but how do we move forward from here? Well, different people will have different viewpoints on how best to move forward, and l respect that. My view however, is that the only way we can move forward is if President Hakainde Hichilema and  his Government abandon their arrogant attitude and embrace humility and grace.

17. Let President Hakainde Hichilema respect and honor the wishes of ECL’s family. Let Government give the late former President a state funeral, without hijacking the funeral program. It is worth noting that President Edgar Chagwa Lungu is entitled to a state funeral. So by giving him a state funeral, President Hakainde Hichilema is not doing us a favor here, no. The state funeral will be funded by taxpayers money, and not from HH’s personal pocket. As the family has demanded, let HH stay away from the funeral. Let the family repatriate ECL’s body until the airport, where the state can take over. Let church services be held in Ndola, Lusaka and Petauke, as demanded by the family.

18. The question that the Zambian people should ask themselves is whether the demands made by ECL’s family above, are so unreasonable that they should warrant the current national deadlock? Or put differently, is the current national deadlock necessary, under the circumstances? My considered view is that it is not. Lastly, allow me to address President Hakainde Hichilema directly. Mr President sir, you tormented your older brother in life. Please, do not continue to torment him in his death. Simply agree to the demands of his family, and allow your elder brother to be mourned in a dignified way. I thank you, Mr President sir 😢🙏🏽

MY OBSERVATIONS REGARDING THE IMPASSE RELATING TO ECL’s BURIAL- CHISHALA KATEKA

MY OBSERVATIONS REGARDING THE IMPASSE RELATING TO ECL’s BURIAL.

12 June 2025

To President Hichilema.  Leadership from the front in this matter
The Late former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu (ECL) passed away around 06:00 hours on Thursday, 5 June 2025 with news of his passing reaching the nation only in the afternoon of that same day – with the announcement being made by his daughter Mrs Tasila Lungu-Mwansa (MP, Chawama).  There was an information gap of about six hours from the time of death to the announcement to the nation.

Edgar Lungu was the immediate former President of this nation and his passing should have, nay, deserved an official announcement from Government.  Indeed, when a former Head of State passes on, even if there may be no law prescribing it, it behoves the sitting President to make that announcement.

We have noted with dismay that you, Sir, merely acknowledged on your Face Book page that you had been informed of the passing and regretted the same, passing condolences to the family and the nation.

We have also taken note that the first official announcement was made by the Secretary to the Cabinet, Mr. Patrick Kangwa, two and a half days later – to the effect that you, Sir, had declared a period of seven days of national mourning from Sunday 7 to Sunday 15 June 2025.

We have now noted that there seems to be an impasse between Government and the late former President’s family with regard to the repatriation of the remains of the departed as well as to how and where to bury him.

Today marks exactly seven days since his death.  This whole stand-off, which is in the public arena, demonstrates that someone is not taking leadership and that someone is YOU.

The family is understandably upset by whatever has gone on before but more so by the death as well as their perception that had the former President accessed medical attention sooner than he did, their beloved one would still be alive today.

Aside from the family, the nation is waiting to put closure to this matter and that closure can only be done when the former President is buried.  The nation is confused and perplexed at what is going on.

In our Zambian and African culture, when an illness or a death visits, even our enemies, we engage and walk alongside them or their families until there is closure.  We do not stand aloof.  It has been noticed that you, Sir, have not even addressed the nation over this death.  A Facebook page acknowledgement of the death of a former head of state is not an official engagement with the nation.

YOU, Sir, have got the power and capacity to change all this.  Rather than sending emissaries that are doing more harm than good to this effort, you Sir, should take the lead on this.

Firstly, become more empathetic and engaged.  Zambians are mourning, hurting, angry and deeply divided.  Sir, this situation presents an opportunity for you to unite the nation.  Speak to us, comfort us in our mourning, do the right thing in the circumstances, do not mind what comments people make but just play your part.  There is no leader that does not get contrary comments to his/her leadership decisions.  You cannot be all things to everyone.

Secondly, make an effort  to go and see the widow wherever this may be, or whichever becomes most convenient.  This would go a long way in bringing healing to the nation as well as to the family.  You might wish to use emissaries such as Mr. Lazarus Kapambwe – a well respected diplomat to prepare the way for you.

Mr President, do not allow this opportunity to pass you by.

I have taken this liberty to address you as above in the interest of national unity as well as causing this hurtful phase, especially to the family, to reach a conclusion that begins to mend all broken hearts and enables the nation to move on.

To the Family of the late former President His Excellency Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

My deepest condolences on this great loss.

You all know better that the late former President was a man of peace even when provoked.  He cared for you his family greatly and wanted only the best for you.

Mama Lungu, you are a mature believer and very prayerful.  The situation that we find ourselves in is regrettable and most distressing.  My appeal to you and the family is that you should look at this situation from the perspective of the grand scheme of history.

20, 30 or even 50 years from now should be asked the questions:

Did your husband/father/grandfather deserve a burial befitting a hero?

Did he deserve an honoured place as one that selflessly served Zambians?

Did he do his best for Zambia?

Did he leave a legacy that Zambians will continue to point to?

If answers to these questions are yes, then please please please, do not allow some people that are themselves only here for a short while, rob you and the former President, that which is due to him.  They already robbed him of a lot that was due to him during his lifetime.  Do not allow them to rob him of this.

You would not be doing this for the Government but:

you would be burying him with honour for that is his due.

You will also be doing this for us Zambians that are mourning your husband and helping us put closure to this and want to see their
President buried with honour and dignity.

You will be doing this for a nation that is deeply divided and needs healing.  Any other burial than one that is due to your husband will ensure that the nation continues divided. and finally

You will be doing this because, in wisdom, you will be rising above the thought process of those that have constantly tried to humiliate your husband and your family.  You will prove to be the bigger person.

Edgar Lungu’s son Dalitso   demands apology and K5 million compensation from Prime TV!

LATE former President Edgar Lungu’s son Dalitso has threatened to take legal action against Prime Television Limited but in the meantime, he is demanding an apology and K5million compensation for mental distress and reputational harm.

Dalisto is unhappy that the private TV station aired a programme quoting former Minister of Education Nkandu Luo claiming that he had been summoned by the Drug Enforcement Commission(DEC), when the same was false.

The alleged misinformation comes at a time when the country is observing six days of national mourning for late President Lungu who died, June 5, in South Africa after an illness.

Professor Luo was quoted having said that Dalisto called his parents to inform them that DEC had summoned him to their offices.

In the broadcast published on Prime TV Facebook page, the former cabinet minister is wondering how Dalisto could be summoned at a time of grieving adding “have we lost it as a nation”.

But through a demand letter to Prime TV, Dalisto’s lawyers, Malisa & Partners, have dismissed Prof Luo’s sentiments as false and published maliciously during a time their client was in personal grief having lost his father barely a week prior.

“…the timing and tone of the publication suggest a deliberate attempt to exploit a moment of mourning for sensational purposes, thereby compounding our client’s emotional distress and tarnishing his dignity.

“Our client reiterates that on the material day, he was never summoned, interrogated or even contacted by the Drug Enforcement Commission on any matter whatsoever. In our client’s view, your broadcast was false, reckless and malicious, and constituted a gross violation of journalistic ethics, as well as your duty to ensure accuracy and fairness of information disseminated to the public,” the demand letter reads in part.
The lawyers complained that consequently, the said broadcast subjected Dalisto to undue public scrutiny and caused him significant embarrassment, reputational damage and mental anguish.

They now demand that the TV station issues a written and televised apology to their client, which will be circulated on the TV channel and other associated digital media platforms.

Further, they demand an immediate unreserved public retraction of the false claims.

They also demand K5million compensation for embarrassment, reputational harm, distress, mental anguish and legal costs, to be paid within 48hours or the matter goes to court.

ECL SUFFERED MORE DESPITE HAVING IMMUNITY-  MUNDUBILE

ECL SUFFERED MORE DESPITE HAVING IMMUNITY, SAYS MUNDUBILE

….Says President Lungu was removed from a plane while attempting to travel abroad for medical treatment, and on multiple occasions was blocked from leaving the country.

By GIDEON NYENDWA (Daily Nation)

PF/Tonse Alliance Parliamentary National Affairs Chairperson Brian Mundubile has charged that former President Edgar Lungu suffered more harassment, humiliation, retribution and victimisation at the hands of the UPND government than any other former head of State, despite his immunity not being lifted.

Mr. Mundubile said that even former presidents whose immunity was removed received better treatment than Mr. Lungu.

He suggested the delayed removal of Mr Lungu’s immunity may have been intentional to prolong what he described as the persecution of the former president and his family.

He pointed to several incidents as evidence of mistreatment.  He recalled how state police stormed Mr Lungu’s residence with grinders in an attempt to forcibly enter, which he said left the former president feeling humiliated and embarrassed.

He also cited an event where United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres allegedly hurled insults at Mr Lungu in the presence of police officers while his wife was appearing before the Drug Enforcement Commission.

Mr Mundubile stated Mr. Lungu was at one point removed from a plane while attempting to travel abroad for medical treatment, and on multiple occasions was blocked from leaving the country.

He said the former president’s family was frequently in court, which he interpreted as part of a larger effort to target Mr. Lungu.

“Unless when you just want to pretend, any Zambian will see that something was wrong and there has been unfair treatment on the former first family,” Mr Mundubile said.

He condemned the ongoing political hostilities, describing them as “unZambian,” and called for an end to political vendettas that extend to family members and in the past, he said, political disputes were confined to politicians themselves and did not involve their families.

Mr Mundubile defended PF acting president Given Lubinda’s decision to declare the PF secretariat as the official mourning venue.

He said this move was necessary to prevent overwhelming the former president’s residence, which would traditionally serve as the funeral house.
He explained that, in line with Zambian custom, funerals are usually held at the deceased’s home, but due to Mr. Lungu’s popularity and the government’s silence on arrangements, the PF chose the secretariat to accommodate mourners.

FR. FRANK BWALYA EXPOSES PF PLOT BEHIND FALSE REPORTS ON DALITSO LUNGU, URGES LAW ENFORCEMENT TO PROBE MALICIOUS CLAIMS

FR. FRANK BWALYA EXPOSES PF PLOT BEHIND FALSE REPORTS ON DALITSO LUNGU, URGES LAW ENFORCEMENT TO PROBE MALICIOUS CLAIMS

Lusaka, Thursday 12 June 2025 — United Party for National Development (UPND) Presidential Support System Director General for Media, Fr. Frank Bwalya, has exposed a calculated scheme by some members of the Patriotic Front (PF) to portray President Hakainde Hichilema and his government in a negative light during the sensitive period of national mourning.

Speaking at the Anderson Kambela Mazoka UPND Party Secretariat today, Fr. Bwalya described the recent false claims made by former PF cabinet minister Nkandu Luo — alleging that the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) had summoned Dalitso Lungu, son of the late sixth Republican President Edgar Chagwa Lungu — as part of a “malicious political propaganda campaign” meant to mislead the public and tarnish the image of the Head of State.

“These unfounded allegations, now officially refuted by the DEC, are part of a coordinated effort by desperate PF factions to sow confusion and portray President Hichilema as a vindictive leader. This is not only false but a shameful attempt to gain political mileage from a solemn national moment,” said Fr. Bwalya.

The DEC, through a statement has issued by its Public Relations Officer Allan Tamba, categorically denied summoning or interrogating Dalitso Lungu on 11 June 2025, as alleged by Prof. Nkandu Luo. The Commission also clarified that no travel documents belonging to Dalitso, his siblings Chiyeso and Tasila, or former First Lady Esther Lungu were ever seized as bond conditions.

Furthermore, the DEC revealed that Dalitso Lungu’s lawyer had disassociated himself from Luo’s claims, labelling them as misleading and malicious.

Fr. Bwalya did not mince his words in calling out PF faction leaders, particularly Raphael Nakachinda, PF Secretary General, who recently made wild allegations to international media suggesting that the late President Lungu may have been poisoned.

“Nakachinda’s allegations are not only false but dangerous. They are reckless statements intended to incite unrest and delegitimize the government in the eyes of the international community. Law enforcement agencies must take keen interest in such claims, which border on criminal defamation and national sabotage,” Fr. Bwalya stated.

He emphasized that while the nation is in mourning, it does not mean the law is suspended.

“We must remember that national mourning does not override the laws of the land. Cybersecurity laws, defamation statutes, and public order obligations remain in force. Citizens must exercise caution and responsibility in their statements, particularly on social media. This is not the time to manufacture divisions or create national panic,” he added.

Fr. Bwalya further urged Zambians to honor the memory of late President Lungu with unity and integrity, and not allow political actors to manipulate the grief of the nation for personal or factional gain.

“Let us give our late president the dignity he deserves. Let us reject the politics of lies, confusion, and character assassination. Zambia is bigger than any individual or political party,” he said.

NATIONAL ADDRESS ANALYSIS : HH Steps Forward — But Avoids the Fire

 NATIONAL ADDRESS ANALYSIS | THE PEOPLE’S BRIEF | THURSDAY, JUNE 12, 2025

HH Steps Forward — But Avoids the Fire

Amid a climate of grief blurred by political provocation, tribal undercurrents, and public disinformation, President Hakainde Hichilema delivered a calculated address Thursday evening, opting for statesmanship over sentiment.

Expectations were high. The Lungu family had publicly rejected his presence at the funeral. His political opponents had accused the government of
and even witchcraft. Social media was on fire with unverified claims, while regional leaders reportedly began reconsidering their travel plans due to the confusion.

Yet, the President did not respond in kind.

️ MEASURED, NOT REACTIVE

> “Our thoughts remain with the bereaved family. Zambia is a nation in mourning.”

Hichilema’s tone was calm, restrained, and presidential. He refused to address his ban from the funeral, choosing instead to de-escalate.

“Pain manifests differently,” he said,  a subtle recognition of the Lungu family’s grief-turned-political theatre, without direct rebuke. It was a line aimed not just at Lusaka, but at the international community watching Zambia’s handling of this moment.

 FIRM LINE ON NATIONAL SECURITY

The restraint was not without resolve. With tribal chants and political threats emerging from the PF mourning camp, the President issued a clear boundary:

> “We shall not allow lawlessness or disorder to take root.”

> “Do not allow yourself to be drawn into provocation.”

While the statement lacked direct confrontation, the subtext was unmistakable: the State remains in control. No political group, mourning or not will be allowed to destabilize the country’s peace.

欄 A PRESIDENT FOR ALL — AT A TIME WHEN FEW AGREE

“Our political differences do not make us enemies,” Hichilema said.

He emphasized unity, service beyond tribal lines, and the duty of leadership during uncertainty.

These words land in a divided environment where Lungu’s funeral has become less about remembrance and more about resistance. The PF is demanding extended mourning, threatening to bury in South Africa, and accusing government institutions of sabotage. Yet the President’s message remained above the fray.

It may not satisfy those seeking a more muscular rebuttal, but it sends a message to Zambians and observers alike: stability will not be sacrificed on the altar of provocation.

 FINAL TAKE

President Hichilema didn’t take the bait. He didn’t clap back. He didn’t play tribal politics. He reminded the country; and its leaders that the presidency is not a pulpit for vengeance.

It was a delicate balance of grace and governance, clearly crafted with both domestic restraint and international optics in mind.

But with Lungu’s remains still in South Africa, demands multiplying by the day, and tribal tensions growing, the next 72 hours will test whether this tone can hold or whether silence will be interpreted as weakness.

Lusaka, Thursday 12 June 2025 — United Party for National Development (UPND) Presidential Support System Director General for Media, Fr. Frank Bwalya, has called on family members of the late sixth Republican President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu, to heed the wise and timely counsel of Archbishop Ignatius Chama of the Archdiocese of Kasama by helping to ensure that the late president is given a dignified, peaceful, and unifying send-off.

Fr. Bwalya was speaking at the Anderson Kambela Mazoka UPND Party Secretariat in Lusaka when he addressed the media on the ongoing period of national mourning.

He said the remarks made by Archbishop Chama during his weekly radio program Ishiwi Lyakwa Kachema, broadcast on Radio Lutanda on Wednesday, are not only timely but offer deep spiritual and national guidance.

“The words of Archbishop Chama speak to the soul of the nation. We fully support his call for a respectful, solemn, and united mourning period for our former Head of State. This is not a time for finger-pointing, speculation, or politicization of death,” Fr. Bwalya stated.

He warned that some of the statements circulating in public, especially on social media, have been reckless and harmful to the dignity of the bereaved family and the legacy of the late president.

“Some of the things being said about the passing of President Lungu are not only unhelpful, they are adding salt to the injury that his family is already enduring. We join Archbishop Chama in urging all Zambians, especially close family members and political stakeholders, to be responsible and compassionate in word and deed.”

Archbishop Chama, during his program, had strongly cautioned against using the funeral of a statesman to sow division or confusion. He reminded Zambians that the responsibility of laying to rest a former president with honour lies not only with the government, but with the entire nation.

“This is a national duty. Whatever we say or do during this period should bring healing, not confusion. We risk losing the spiritual and moral opportunity to unite as a nation if we choose disunity and half-truths in our words and actions,” the Archbishop said.

Fr. Bwalya echoed these sentiments, calling on the Lungu family to reflect deeply on the Archbishop’s guidance.

“We appeal to members of the Lungu family, especially those making public statements, to show leadership and honour the memory of their loved one through unity, truth, and dignity. President Lungu served this nation, and he deserves a funeral befitting a statesman, free from blame games and unnecessary controversy.”

He also urged political figures across the divide to emulate the Archbishop’s call for maturity and humility, saying Zambia must show the world that it can mourn its leaders with honour and unity.

“Let us rise above politics. Let us mourn with humanity. The world is watching how we lay to rest a man who once led this country. Let us do so with grace and dignity,” said Fr. Bwalya.

President Edgar Chagwa Lungu served as Zambia’s sixth Republican President from 2015 to 2021. He passed away recently after a period of illness. Funeral arrangements are underway, and the government has pledged to accord him a State Funeral in line with his status.

FR. FRANK BWALYA URGES PF TO CONDEMN TRIBAL REMARKS OVER REJECTED TONGA GOSPEL SONG AT FUNERAL GATHERING

FR. FRANK BWALYA URGES PF TO CONDEMN TRIBAL REMARKS OVER REJECTED TONGA GOSPEL SONG AT FUNERAL GATHERING

Lusaka, Thursday 12 June 2025 — United Party for National Development (UPND) Presidential Support System Director General for Media, Fr. Frank Bwalya, has strongly condemned the tribal sentiments displayed by some Patriotic Front (PF) members during a funeral gathering at the PF Secretariat, where a gospel song sung in Tonga was deliberately stopped from playing.

Fr. Bwalya, addressing journalists at the Anderson Kambela Mazoka UPND Secretariat in Lusaka, described the incident as “shameful, divisive and un-Zambian,” especially during a time when the country is mourning the late sixth Republican President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

“We are deeply saddened by the tribal intolerance shown when a gospel song sung in Tonga — a language spoken by a significant portion of our country — was rejected and stopped from playing by PF cadres at their own party premises. This is a betrayal of the unity our founding fathers envisioned and what our late President Lungu himself stood for,” said Fr. Bwalya.

Eyewitnesses at the PF Secretariat reported that some cadres shouted down the playing of the song, claiming it was not appropriate because it was in Tonga, which sparked outrage among observers who viewed the act as tribal discrimination.

Fr. Bwalya challenged the PF leadership to publicly distance itself from such behavior and take action against those responsible.

“We call on the PF leadership to rise above partisan silence and publicly condemn these tribal remarks. The failure to do so would only confirm that the party tolerates or even encourages tribal division. This is unacceptable, especially in times of national mourning when unity should be our strongest message,” he said.

He further urged Zambians from all ethnic and political backgrounds to embrace one another and reject any attempts to divide the nation along tribal lines.

“Language should never be a weapon of division in our country. Gospel music, in any language, is meant to bring comfort and healing — not hatred,” Fr. Bwalya said.

He reminded the nation that President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration is rooted in promoting One Zambia, One Nation and has demonstrated inclusivity across all ethnic lines.

“President Hichilema has appointed and worked with Zambians from all corners of the country including me who at one time was his critic,” he added.

Fr. Bwalya called on the Church, civil society, and traditional leaders to speak against tribalism in all its forms, noting that silence in the face of such discrimination is complicity.

“We must not allow the sacred moment of national mourning to be hijacked by hate speech and ethnic division. Zambia is one. We must preserve that unity at all costs,” he emphasized.

GPP leader, Damiano Ngoma stated that the ongoing funeral of former president Edgar Lungu should not be used as a reason to interfere with the justice system.
he argued that any alleged wrongdoings committed during Mr. Lungu’s lifetime remain relevant and should be addressed through legal proceedings based on available evidence.

on June 6, 2025, Umodzi Kumawa Development Coalition spokesperson Chanoda Ngwira urged president Hichilema to withdraw all charges against the Lungu family, citing the need to honor the late president and promote national unity.

Healing Requires Truth: Confronting the Injustices Against Former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu

Mr. President, You Failed Your Brother. You Drove Him to His Grave.

Mr. President,

Zambia stands wounded.

Not only by the death of a former Head of State, but also by the chilling silence that surrounded the slow, public erosion of his dignity. We mourn the passing of our sixth President, His Excellency Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu. But mourning alone will not suffice. Healing cannot begin until we, as a nation, find the courage to speak the truth, no matter how uncomfortable or politically inconvenient.

Mr. President, this is the truth.

You did not simply fail your predecessor.
You mistreated your brother until the very end.
You broke him systematically, publicly, and with frightening persistence.

What the late President Lungu endured in his final years was not the result of political rivalry or ideological difference. It was cruelty: deliberate, targeted, and inhumane.

Where he should have found rest and reflection, he found torment.
Where he should have been honored, he was humiliated.
Where he should have been protected, he was pursued.

And the most heart-wrenching and disgraceful act of all was that you denied him the opportunity to travel to South Africa for a critical medical review, not once, not twice, but three times. Let that truth settle for a moment.

How can a fellow human being, let alone a former President of the Republic of Zambia, be denied access to the healthcare he needed? What kind of leadership sees vulnerability and responds with vindictiveness? Denying a man the right to seek medical treatment is not merely a political decision. It is an inhumane act.

Yet you did not stop there.

You completed the humiliation when you stripped him of his security detail, exposing a former Commander-in-Chief to the very dangers your office is mandated to shield him from.

Why, Mr. President?
Why would you deliberately leave a man who once held the reins of our national defense vulnerable and unprotected?
What threat did Edgar Chagwa Lungu pose to you that justified violating the constitutional protections owed to a former Head of State?

This was not a security adjustment. It was a calculated act of degradation, a political punishment meant to diminish him publicly and psychologically. And you, Mr. President, allowed it through deliberate silence.

Zambians have not forgotten the images of Dr. Lungu being harassed while jogging. The surveillance. The media attacks by state-aligned platforms. The whispers and slander designed to chip away at his legacy. The cloud of legal threats that hung over him. A campaign of persecution that drove him into political exile within his own country.

Let us say it without fear.
You mistreated him to the grave.
His death was not merely a medical event. It was the culmination of sustained psychological warfare. He died not only with illness in his body, but with pain in his heart—pain inflicted by the very government that should have treated him with honor.

To those now speaking out, do not be afraid.
You are not traitors.
You are patriots.
You are truth-tellers.
And Zambia needs you now more than ever.

We must build a nation where justice is not selective, where leadership is not a license for revenge, and where those who have served, even if flawed, are treated with the human dignity every Zambian deserves.

Mr. President, this moment will follow you for the rest of your life and into history.
You failed Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
You failed the sacred brotherhood of leadership.
You failed the millions who believed your promise to unite, not divide.

Now he is gone.
A man of resilience.
A statesman.
A husband.
A father.
Silenced by a hostile political system. And yet, in death, his silence roars louder than the voices that tried to bury his truth.

Let this be a turning point, Mr. President, not just for you but for Zambia.
Let this be the last time that power is used as a weapon against a fellow citizen.
Let it be the final time a leader is punished simply for existing.

Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu deserved better.
Zambia deserved better.

And to you, Mr. President, history will remember.
It will remember how you treated your brother.

It will remember how you wielded power.
And it will remember that, in the end, you drove a former President to his grave not with violence, but with sustained cruelty and political indifference.

Let us rise from this darkness, not with vengeance but with courage.
Let us speak.
Let us mourn.
Let us never forget.

May his memory ignite the conscience of a nation and compel us never again to mistake power for purpose.

Sincerely,
Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

SIMUUWE URGED TO REFRAIN ATTACKS ON DR. M’MEMBE, SAYS SP YOUTH LEAGUE

SIMUUWE URGED TO REFRAIN ATTACKS ON DR. M’MEMBE, SAYS SP YOUTH LEAGUE

Lusaka… Thursday June 12, 2025 – The Socialist Party (SP) Youth League has called on UPND Media Director Mark Simuuwe to “stop punching above his weight” following an attack on Dr. Fred M’membe, the SP President and veteran journalist.

As a Media Director of the ruling party, Simuuwe should refrain from telling lies and do his research before he speaks.

Unlike the UPND that has not held a Convention in almost Two decades to elect a new president, SP went to its Congress last year in which Dr. M’membe emerged as party leader.

In a statement, the party’s National Youth League Deputy Spokesperson, Lusambo Sconel, stated that it was both “laughable and regrettable” that Simuuwe had chosen to target Dr. M’membe, whom he described as a man with a long-standing record of defending democracy, press freedom, and intellectual integrity in Zambia–well before the UPND came to power.

Sconel said Dr. M’membe could not be compared to Simuuwe in terms of political experience or moral standing.

He added that the contrast between the “intellectual, moral, and revolutionary weight” of Dr. M’membe and the “partisan soundbites” of Simuuwe was not only disingenuous but “comical.”

He reminded the public that Dr. M’membe had consistently stood up to authoritarian regimes, championed the rights of the poor, and uncovered corruption even at great personal cost—including multiple arrests and the closure of The Post Newspaper, once Zambia’s most influential independent media outlet.

Sconel dismissed Simuuwe’s assertion that “Zambia is not The Post Newspaper,” arguing that the democratic space currently enjoyed by the UPND was built on the sacrifices of Dr. M’membe and others like him.

“You are walking on freedoms he helped pave,” Sconel said, urging the UPND official to “have some humility.”

Commenting on the political relevance of the Socialist Party, Sconel noted that despite holding only seven council seats, the party had gained significant grassroots support from Zambians disillusioned by unmet promises, rising poverty, and what he described as leadership that prioritized appearances over substance.

He accused the UPND of fearing the growth of the Socialist Party, which he disclosed was financed not by imperialists but by “the sweat of ordinary Zambians.”

Turning to national issues, Sconel challenged Simuuwe’s remarks about national unity under President Hakainde Hichilema, saying that Zambia remained deeply divided by class and economic inequality.

He argued that slogans of economic revival rang hollow in the face of rising prices, widespread unemployment, and unfulfilled campaign promises.

Sconel further contended that denying Dr. M’membe the moral ground to critique the current administration was both “dangerous and arrogant.”

He insisted that in a functioning democracy, those who had fought for freedom had both the right and the responsibility to speak truth to power.

On the matter of the UPND’s political future, the SP Youth League spokesperson asserted that Zambians were increasingly aware of “political cosmetics,” and warned that the electorate would rectify a mistake come 2026.

He called out the ruling party for failing to deliver on its promises of job creation, affordable living, and national reconciliation.

Sconel concluded by reaffirming Dr. M’membe’s commitment to advocating for a better Zambia–not for personal gain but for the country’s future–and warned the UPND that “their clock is ticking.”

He ended his statement with a call for truth, action, and leadership guided by conscience, saying Zambians deserved more than “spin.”
