CARITAS CRIES FOR THE PEOPLE…. AFTER US REDUCE AID

CARITAS CRIES FOR THE PEOPLE…. AFTER US REDUCE AID.

Caritas Zambia has noted with concern the decision by the United States government to cut aid for essential medicines in Zambia owing to rampant theft.

Caritas Zambia Director Rev.Fr. Dr. Gabriel Mapulanga said the reduction of support toward provision of medicine will have a devastating impact on the lives of countless Zambians who rely on these vital medications.

Fr. Mapulanga urged all stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue and focus on solutions that address both the issue of corruption and the urgent need for access to medicine.

He said Caritas will continue to advocate for justice, transparency, and accountability while also standing in solidarity with those most in need.

LUFUMA UNVEILS NEW INFRASTRUCTURE AT ZNS KAFUE TRAINING SCHOOL

LUFUMA UNVEILS NEW INFRASTRUCTURE AT ZNS KAFUE TRAINING SCHOOL

Minister of Defence Ambrose Lufuma has inaugurated two modern ablution blocks, refurbished officer cadet hostels, new access roads, and several wash troughs at the Zambia National Service (ZNS) Kafue Training School.

The infrastructure was constructed by the ZNS Land Development Branch and the Builders Brigade using locally generated funds.

Lufuma commended ZNS for prioritising the welfare of officer cadets by enhancing infrastructure at the training facility.

Speaking after unveiling the facilities on Friday, he stated that the government was impressed with ZNS’s initiative to improve its infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Zambia National Service Commander, Lieutenant General Maliti Solochi, remarked that the transformation at ZNS Kafue Training School aligned with the government’s broader agenda to upgrade infrastructure.

He urged the government to award ZNS more contracts for township roads, emphasising that the service had skilled personnel but required modern equipment to compete with private contractors.

ZNS Kafue Training School Commandant Brigadier General Sydney Machiko noted that the newly built infrastructure would contribute to enhancing the standard of learning at the school.

“It’s Our Turn to Eat”

LIVE NOW; “It’s Our Turn to Eat”

On Emmanuel Mwamba Verified  we discuss the extent of corruption under President Hakainde Hichilema

The sophistication, extent and brazen systematic looting and plunder of the Treasury and national assets is of concern.

From issues around Mopani ,FQM, Vedanta, to Jubilee metals acquiring waste rock dump is estimated to contain over 350 million tonnes of copper material, to fertilizer deals and medicine deals.

Further, the deliberate choice to use direct bidding and single-sourcing procurement methods for almost all government large-scale purchases demonstrates the sheer determination to make hay while the sun shines.

He has even given some change to his cadres, looting the Compensation Fund at Ministry of Justice over K50million using, irregular, illegal awards and fraudulent consent judgments.

CDF is another looting frenzy.

I will not let you down, vows Keith Mweemba as new FAZ boss begins reign

I will not let you down, vows Mweemba as new FAZ boss begins reign

NEWLY elected Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Keith Mweemba has promised not to disappoint as he officially takes charge of Zambian football, pledging unity, teamwork and continuity in his leadership.

Speaking shortly after being declared winner at the reconvened FAZ Elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Kabwe yesterday, Mweemba urged all football stakeholders to bury their differences and start working together for the good of the game.

“I will not let you down. A leader does not work alone, a leader works with people,” said Mweemba, as delegates and supporters broke into applause.

The elections, which had been the subject of public interest and tension in recent weeks, came to a peaceful close with Mweemba emerging victorious and Mutale Ng’andu taking the vice-presidency after a close runoff.

The new FAZ boss also praised his predecessor, Andrew Kamanga for his contribution to the growth of Zambian football, saying his experience would still be needed in the new dispensation.

He said his administration would not throw away the gains made under Kamanga’s leadership but would instead build on them to take the game to greater heights.

I will need a lot of his support; he [Kamanga] is a very important stakeholder in the history of this country,” he added.

Mweemba, who has long been associated with the grassroots side of football, said he would ensure that inclusiveness and collaboration become pillars of his tenure.

As Mweemba settles into office, expectations are high from clubs, players and fans across the country, who are hoping to see a united front, a stronger league system, and better performances from national teams.

DR. M’MEMBE CALLS FOR JUSTICE IN SABBATH MESSAGE

DR. M’MEMBE CALLS FOR JUSTICE IN SABBATH MESSAGE

Lusaka… Saturday May 10, 2025 — Socialist Party (SP) President Dr. Fred M’membe has extended warm greetings to all Zambians, urging citizens across the nation to reflect on peace, unity, and justice.

In a statement to mark the Sabbath, Dr. M’membe addressed fellow citizens across the country, both in urban and rural areas, wishing them a peaceful day of rest, reflection, and renewal.

He expressed hope that the Sabbath would bring strength and encouragement as the nation continues its pursuit of a just and dignified society.

He emphasized that national development and unity could only be achieved through collective strength and social structures grounded in justice, equity, and solidarity.

Dr. M’membe stated that despite Zambia’s rich resources, many citizens continued to suffer from abject poverty—“poverty which, was not due to a lack of national wealth, but rather the unequal distribution of resources that had benefited only a few.”

“This reality must change,” he said, stressing that such a transformation would require unified effort from all communities and sectors.

He reaffirmed the Socialist Party’s belief in the power of the people to organize, educate, and liberate themselves from exploitation and systemic neglect.

Dr. M’membe concluded by calling on citizens to let their Sabbath prayers also be a call to action, encouraging Zambians to work together in building a nation where no one is left behind.

He expressed hope that the spirit of love, justice, and unity would guide the country toward a better future.

ZAMBIAN PRIEST IN ROME CALLS FOR DECISIVE ACTION FOLLOWING THE WITHDRAWAL OF US MEDICAL AID TO ZAMBIA

ZAMBIAN PRIEST IN ROME CALLS FOR  DECISIVE  ACTION FOLLOWING THE WITHDRAWAL OF US MEDICAL AID TO ZAMBIA

A Zambian priest based in Rome Italy,  has passionately appealed to the Zambian government to act decisively  following the recent withdrawal of aid exceeding $50 million by the American government.

The funding cut, is primarily directed towards life-sustaining drugs like ARVs and  TB, among others which will undoubtedly pose a health threat to millions of vulnerable Zambians dependent on these medications.

Fr. Martin Mwango has therefore highlighted the severe challenges faced by poor Zambians in accessing quality healthcare, exacerbated by this significant blow to the health sector which he says requires government to amicably address, both in the  immediate and long term.

He says the issue at hand is not about politics, but on how millions of vulnerable Zambians will be affected by such a move, which would have been prevented  if those in desicion making positions acted more responsibly and decisively on matters that border on people’s wellbeing.

“How long will this medical rot in our country’s health system persist”, Fr. Mwango questioned, expressing dismay over what he sees as a history of mismanagement in drug supply across successive governments.

He has cited the ambulance scandal, issues of expired drugs and the recent discovery of 61 abandoned containers of medical supplies , as some of the many examples of mismanagement of the country’s medical supply chain.

Fr. Mwango has since emphasized the urgent need for uninterrupted drug supply to ensure Zambians receive the care they deserve.

He has further suggested that government  explores alternative funding sources such as the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to safeguard access to vital medications like ARVs.

“How useful are roads and infrastructure without a healthy nation”, Fr Mwango has further questioned, with a call for prioritization of health through locally generated funds as opposed to perpetual dependence on foreign aid.

He has further emphasized the need to elevate the conversation on more pressing issues such as how the country can increase the life expectancy from the current 45 through a robust health system devoid of medical supply chain lapses which have become endemic in the county’s health system.

ZESCO Board Faces Mounting Pressure Over Energy Crisis

ZESCO Board Faces Mounting Pressure Over Energy Crisis
………..Calls grow for accountability as load shedding cripples Zambia’s economy

Amid a deepening energy crisis, prominent commentator Macphersson Mutale  has delivered a scathing critique of ZESCO’s leadership, calling for urgent reform and a complete overhaul of the utility’s board and management. In a powerful statement, Mutale questioned the very foundation of ZESCO’s governance and its accountability to the Zambian people.

“The power crisis that has gripped Zambia is not merely a technical failure; it is an economic and governance catastrophe,” Mutale said. “At the centre of this storm is ZESCO, a state-owned power utility that has become synonymous with incompetence, opacity, and a stunning lack of accountability.”

ZESCO, the nation’s primary electricity supplier, has come under intense scrutiny in recent months as erratic load shedding continues to disrupt daily life and paralyze economic activity. Businesses across sectors have been forced to scale down operations or shut down altogether, while households endure long, unpredictable power outages.
Mutale was blunt in his assessment of ZESCO’s performance.

“ZESCO has failed in its primary mandate: to provide electricity to the people of Zambia. This failure is not accidental it is systemic,” he said. “Thousands of small and medium enterprises have been crippled. Jobs have been lost. Hope has been extinguished.”

At the heart of the crisis is the ZESCO board, which Mutale accused of being “mute, passive, and comfortably perched in its ivory tower of impunity.”

“Who is the ZESCO board accountable to?” he asked. “Is it the President? Parliament? The people of Zambia? Or has it become a law unto itself—an elite club with no obligation to answer for its catastrophic failures?”

The statement referenced South Africa’s handling of similar energy challenges, where public pressure and political will resulted in leadership changes and reform at Eskom.

“Why is Zambia so allergic to decisive leadership?” Mutale queried.

While ZESCO points to long-term renewable energy goals, such as solar and wind projects, Mutale argued that the board is failing to address immediate needs.

“The solar farms that ZESCO touts are still in the pipeline. What is being done in the interim? Where is the emergency response? Where is the communication, the transparency, the urgency?” he asked.

Mutale further revealed that over $10 billion in Power Purchase Agreements have yet to materialize, blaming policy inconsistency and ZESCO’s opaque practices for scaring off investors.

He also criticized the ongoing importation of power at an estimated cost of $90 million per month, suggesting that funds could be better spent on scalable domestic solutions, including rent-to-own solar programs or coal plant development.

“Five months of import payments, totaling $450 million, could build a 350-megawatt coal plant a lasting solution,” he said.

In a particularly stinging accusation, Mutale highlighted inequities in power distribution, alleging political interference and favoritism in ZESCO’s load-shedding schedules.

“Certain areas are granted uninterrupted supply, not because they host hospitals or water facilities, but because ZESCO employees or ministers live there. This is immoral. This is criminal,” he said.

Mutale concluded by urging President Hakainde Hichilema to intervene decisively, warning that continued protection of underperforming ZESCO leadership risks undermining public trust and economic recovery.

“ZESCO is not just a utility. It is a lifeline for millions. And today, that lifeline is broken. It must be fixed now.”

As the energy crisis deepens, pressure is mounting on the government to act swiftly and restore both functionality and accountability to one of Zambia’s most critical institutions.

Speaking shortly after being declared winner at the reconvened elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Kabwe, Mweemba thanked the football family and immediately extended a message of reconciliation and togetherness.

“The football family begins uniting this very moment. We wish to thank the outgoing president, Mr. Andrew Kamanga. I am calling upon everybody to show him the utmost respect,” Mweemba said.

“As I promised in my manifesto, I will continue working with Mr. Andrew Kamanga, I will continue working with Mr. Justin Mumba and other members of the football family. Football is a game of love and there must be no divisions.”

Mweemba shared with delegates what lies ahead.

“I am a football person; I can promise you one thing: I will not let you down. There will be no disappointment; we shall not disappoint. A leader does not work alone, a leader works with people. I will need a lot of his support; he (Kamanga) is a very important stakeholder in the history of this country,” Mweemba said.

He reiterated his commitment to his campaign pledges, emphasizing collective leadership and continuity of progress made under the previous administration.

“A forest of words will not fill a basket. One thing I can promise you is that when I say we are going to promote democracy and its fundamental principles, I mean just that. We thank all those who have not made it for accepting the results of the election because that is what democracy is all about, but there is no loser in this election, we are all one united family,” Mweemba explained.

“Today, let us all celebrate and thank God, I love you all thank you very much. I need the support of all of you and the executive. We shall develop Zambian football together. All the good things that Mr. Andrew Kamanga and his leadership did must continue.”

Outgoing FAZ president Andrew Kamanga, who served from 2016 to 2025, congratulated the new executive and expressed gratitude to the football family.

“Mine is to congratulate the incoming president, the vice president and the executive committee. All I can do is wish you well and continue taking Zambian football forward,” Kamanga said.

“I also want to thank all of you for having been with me on the journey that saw us reach the highest point, thank you very much and all the best to Zambian football.”

Newly elected vice president Mutale Ng’andu, who secured the role after a tightly contested runoff, thanked delegates and emphasized his resolve to deliver on the promises made.

“My journey to address you as vice president elect has not been busy, but of course, when the Lord has a plan for one, no one can alter that,” Ng’andu said.

“I want to assure you that I believe in security and conscience. That which I have espoused in my manifesto shall be implemented.”

Col. Priscilla Katoba, who was ratified unopposed as the Women’s National Representative, paid tribute to both outgoing and incoming leadership.

“To go through unopposed means, it was God’s doing. Let me also appreciate the outgoing president and vice president. I worked with both of them and I feel I am what I am today because of the guidance that they gave me,” Katoba said.

“I also want to congratulate the incoming president and the vice president. I am here to work with you for women’s football as you have seen how it has skyrocketed to this level, and with you coming on board, we will carry on from where the last executive left off.”

JUSTICE AWAITS: LIMULUNGA TEACHER CONVICTED OF DEFILING 12-YEAR-OLD

JUSTICE AWAITS: LIMULUNGA TEACHER CONVICTED OF DEFILING 12-YEAR-OLD

Mongu , 10th May 2025

Justice is closing in on a 30-year-old teacher from Namayanga Primary School in Limulunga District, who has been convicted for defiling a 12-year-old Grade 7 pupil.

Mubu Sitali, now facing the full force of the law, was found guilty and has been committed to the High Court for sentencing. Mongu Resident Magistrate Maloti Phiri, who presided over the case, ruled that the evidence against Sitali was overwhelming and left no room for doubt.

The offense, committed earlier this year, sparked outrage among parents and community members in Limulunga and across Western Province. Calls have grown louder for harsher punishment against individuals who abuse their positions of trust to prey on vulnerable children.

In delivering the judgment, Magistrate Phiri stressed that such crimes are a grave violation of children’s rights and a betrayal of the sacred trust placed in teachers. “This court finds you guilty as charged. Such acts not only harm the victim but shake the foundation of our education system and community trust,” Phiri stated.

Sitali now awaits sentencing at the Mongu High Court, where a stiff penalty is anticipated due to the gravity of the crime and the age of the victim.

The case has renewed public demands for stronger protections in schools and tougher measures against child sexual abuse.

Joe Biden finally reveals why Kamala Harris lost the 2024 U.S. election

Former President Joe Biden has broken his silence on why Kamala Harris was defeated by Donald Trump in the 2024 U.S. election.

According to Biden, Harris’ loss stemmed from deep-rooted sexism and racism.

In a Thursday appearance on ABC’s The View, he reflected on the Democrats’ stinging election defeat, ongoing scrutiny over his age, and what he described as Trump’s polarizing leadership. Biden, who exited the White House in January, explained that he waited over 100 days before speaking publicly in order to follow the customary period of deference after a new administration takes office.

When asked about Harris’ loss, Biden said he had not anticipated how significantly gender and race would shape the election.

“They went the sexist route,” Biden said of the criticism, pointing to the belief that “a woman couldn’t lead the country and a woman of mixed race.”

Watch a recent episode of The BreakDown podcast below and subscribe to our channel PanaGenius TV for latest episodes.

Taking personal responsibility for the result, he added: “I was in charge, and he won, so I take responsibility.”

Since leaving office, Biden has distanced himself from day-to-day politics. He’s unlikely to be a dominant figure in Democratic strategy going forward, as the party shifts its focus to emerging leaders. Still, he shared that he remains in regular touch with Harris and has continued to offer her political guidance.

“She’s got a difficult decision to make about what she’s going to do. I hope she stays engaged,” Biden said, though he kept his advice to her private.

The former president also dismissed claims about his cognitive health, which flared up after a widely criticized debate performance last June. He brushed aside any resentment toward Democratic insiders who encouraged him to bow out of the race.

“The only reason I got out of the race was because I didn’t want to have a divided Democratic Party,” he explained. While the base didn’t necessarily agree with concerns over his age after the “terrible” debate, he said “the Democratic leadership and some of the very significant contributors did.”

Polling data at the time, however, painted a broader picture of discontent. An AP-NORC poll from January 2022 showed that just 48% of Democrats wanted Biden to run again. That number dipped to 37% by February 2023. And following his poor debate performance, nearly two-thirds of Democratic voters favored him stepping aside.

Thursday’s interview also featured former First Lady Jill Biden, in her first joint media appearance with her husband since they left the capital. She addressed accusations that she shielded the president from public scrutiny regarding his age.

“It was very hurtful especially from some of our so-called friends,” she said.

“I was with Joe day and night … and I did not create a cocoon around him,” she continued. “You saw him in the Oval Office. You saw him making speeches. He wasn’t hiding somewhere.”

When the topic turned to Trump’s performance in office so far, Biden didn’t hold back.

“He’s had the worst 100 days any president has ever had,” he said.

Trump’s camp quickly responded. White House communications director Steven Cheung delivered a scathing rebuttal.

“Joe Biden is a complete disgrace to this country and the office he occupied,” Cheung said. “He has clearly lost all mental faculties and his handlers thought it’d be a good idea for him to do an interview and incoherently mumble his way through every answer. Sadly, this feels like abuse.”

NKEYEMA TOWN COUNCIL HAS SHOWN THE WAY

NKEYEMA TOWN COUNCIL HAS SHOWN THE WAY.

Authored by; Hon Mupishi Jones

Kudos go to Nkeyema District team for the prudent manner in which you handled public affairs during the 2023 financial year. The 2023 audit report by the Auditor General has vindicated and exemplified your performance. We read and watched you.

Definitely, this called for team work during this financial year.

Starting from the Principal Officer, then Prof.Mutyoka , his management team at Nkeyema Town Council, the Member of Parliament Hon.Mbangweta through his parental and professional counsel during CDFC meetings and the entire monitoring team, please you have made us proud!

Little wonder Nkeyema Member of Parliament was given an extra portfolio as a Minister, there’s something conspicuous to learn from this man the moment you interact with him…..honorable congratulations once again.

This Nkeyema team rarely blows it’s own trumpet,it speaks less leaving results to speak for themselves and indeed results have spoken.

It has nothing to do with building loud-mouthed cartels going round praising unpraisables, defending indefendables.

We have members of parliament who have built cartels and living under the delusion that the cartel is building their image and yet it is doing the opposite, embarrassing and shaming them and turning their praises more irritating to the public ear and eye.

To the other districts in western province, your people are closely watching you even in their silence.

They are talking even in their silence.

They’re complaining in their unguided moments even when they are publicly praising you.

Please once again, listen more to your inner voice than your rubble rousers.

Emulate the Nkeyema team that has defiled the narrative that a Member of Parliament has nothing to do with the performance of their respective Town Councils.

To the contrary, there’s a reason why they are members of the Constituency Development Committees and also good reasons why there are proposals to bring them back as members of the councils.

A performing Member of Parliament must take keen interest with the entire life circle of the project up to the audited report by external auditors.

It is folly for any Member of Parliament to beat his chest when handing over a project when in fact that project was marred with irregularities.

Performance in districts must evolve around team work.It shouldn’t be an exclusive duty of Council Management only.It should take team work collaborating together.

All those external members of the council who claim subsistence allowances must realise that there’s a reason why they are paid. Please remember that you’re a component of that bigger team.

To Hon.Mbangweta, please continue prevailing over those issues that matter most to the people, to Prof.Mutyoka, wherever you are, please don’t relent,

Thank you

My album deserved to win album of the year, not Chile one’s – Jemax

My album deserved to win album of the year, not Chile one’s – Jemax

HIP-HOP artiste Jemax has expressed disappointment over the album of the year award snub for his album “The Boogeyman,” claiming that it deserved the accolade over Chile one’s ‘Boy from Chililand’ album.

Jemax, whose real name is James Kavimba was left reeling in bewilderment and frustration as he grappled with the puzzling situation that saw his masterwork (The Boogeyman) being overlooked for a seemingly short lived project.

“Although yambi yale wina ama awards tayalingile ukuwina, best album yapwile kumfwika muli two weeks but yasenda award (an album that only lasted for two weeks didn’t deserve to win),” he said.

Jemax said when he attended the 2024 Kwacha Music Awards, he was firm and believed that his album was the cream of the crop but only to be ambushed by a shockwave of disappointment when Chile one’s name was announced.

He stated that there were other contenders in the category that were worthy of recognition and he was convinced that if he didn’t win, one of them would be deserving of the award.

“But to my utter shock, none of the other artistes I thought of received the accolade either, it was a complete blindside,” he lamented.

“I never would have guessed that Chile One’s album would take home the prize.”

He believed that the organizers may have been out of touch with the true impact and popularity of various albums contention.

“If they had been paying attention, they would have seen that ‘The Boogeyman’ had far greater traction than Chile One’s release.”

But despite the bitter pill of losing the ‘Album of the year’ award, Jemax drew solace from the recognition of his artistry in other categories.

“I felt appreciated when I won in other categories because these accolades are a testament to the hard work and dedication that went into creating my music, and I am truly humbled to have my efforts recognized by my peers in the industry,” he stated.

“I was excited that I won more than two at once but I wasn’t as excited as I should have been.”

The multiple award winning artist also reflected on the unexpected success of one of his track in the album ‘Mpawi,’ expressing his surprise from the public despite his initial reservations about its inclusion in the album.

Jemax explained that he was hesitant to include this track because he was unsure if it would resonate with the audience.

“Little did I know that it would become one of the most popular tracks on the album. It just goes to show that sometimes, the things we doubt the most can surprise us.”

“I was convinced that ‘One Day’ would be the crowd-pleaser but it turned out that ‘Rhodah’ resonated with people more. I guess that’s the beauty of creating music because you never know which songs will strike a chord with the listeners,” he added.

The artiste was speaking on ‘Zaye Zahala’ programme of Power Tv.

However, “the Boogeyman” album gathered over 65.6 million streams from Spotify, boomplay and audiomack whilst Chile One’s “Boy From Chililand” had over 21.3 million streams on the same platforms.

U.S. prepares to welcome first white South African Afrikaner refugees

U.S. prepares to welcome first white South African Afrikaner refugees

The Trump administration is preparing to welcome the first group of white South African Afrikaners as refugees, with arrivals expected as early as next week, according to reports.

This follows an executive order signed by President Trump on February 7, prioritizing Afrikaner resettlement on the grounds of alleged racial discrimination under South Africa’s Black-led government. Central to the claim is a contentious land expropriation law aimed at redressing apartheid-era injustices.

Dubbed “Mission South Africa,” the initiative has transformed office spaces in Pretoria into refugee processing centers. U.S. officials report receiving over 8,200 applications, with 100 Afrikaners approved for initial resettlement.

The move stands in stark contrast to Trump’s broader immigration policy, which has largely frozen refugee admissions from conflict zones such as Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Syria.

The decision has provoked sharp criticism. The South African government denies any racial targeting, asserting the land reforms are legal, limited, and aimed at economic redress. Critics, including the Foreign Ministry, accuse the U.S. of racial bias, highlighting the preferential treatment of a historically privileged group while others flee war and persecution.

Afrikaner advocacy groups like AfriForum and the Solidarity Movement have also expressed skepticism, declining the offer and reaffirming their commitment to remain in South Africa.

The program’s unusually fast processing time far shorter than the standard 18–24 months has raised further concerns over fairness and political motivation. Some analysts have pointed to the influence of South African-born Trump adviser Elon Musk as a possible factor behind the policy.

‘You’re gonna be the Pope,’ Leo XIV’s brother recalls telling him

Louis Prevost is still reckoning with what just happened in his family.

His little brother, Robert Francis Prevost, is now Pope Leo XIV, the first American pope in the Catholic Church’s history, an incredible fate for a boy from Chicago who dreamt of becoming a priest.

“We knew from a very early time, maybe when he was five or six, he was going to be a priest. There was no doubt in my mind,” Prevost, 73, told AFP from his home in Port Charlotte, Florida.

“When we played games, as kids, he liked to play priest a lot. I thought: ‘what the heck? Priest?’

“He bought Necco wafers, little candy discs, and he’d pretend those were communion and give it to all our friends the yard,” Prevost recounted with a smile.

“We were teasing him when he was six years old: ‘you’re gonna be the Pope.’ And he didn’t like that.”

On Thursday, after white smoke billowed out of the chimney of the Sistine Chapel, Prevost recalled feeling nervous because he felt the cardinal chosen to be pope would be his brother.

Louis Prevost reenacts his reaction to seeing his brother named the new pope, Leo XIV

He turned on the TV, trying to calm down during the prolonged wait got the announcement.
When Cardinal Dominique Mamberti said his brother’s name at the Vatican, Prevost burst with joy.

“I was in the bed, sitting down. It’s good thing I was because I probably would have fallen over,” Prevost said.

“When I thought: ‘My brother’s the Pope. You’re kidding me.’ My mind was blown out of this world, it was crazy, ridiculous. So excited.”

Pope Leo XIV during a mass with cardinals in the Sistine Chapel in The Vatican

Now with the initial excitement subsiding, he is left wondering how his youngest brother’s new role might affect their personal relationship.
“This could be bad for the family. Will we ever see him again? Will we ever get to talk to him like brothers again? Or will it have to be all official? How are you Holy Father, blah, blah, blah. It opens up a lot of questions,” Prevost said.

“He’s still there, but he’s out of reach. We can’t just pick up the phone and call him. Now it’s got to be really special when you get to call the Pope,” he added.

Prevost hopes his other brother, John, will be able to give him some answers when he visits Rome from their hometown of Chicago.

He thinks his brother’s papacy will be able to unite the Catholic Church, attract more faithful and make the world a more peaceful place.

“Whether he has the ability to settle, like the Gaza thing or the Russia and Ukraine conflict, who knows? But I’ve seen him take two warring parties and make peace in five minutes between them,” Prevost said. “He’s got a gift to communicate to people and make them open their eyes.”

He also hopes having an American pope will revitalize the Catholic Church in the United States.

“When he comes to America, he’s going to speak English, not Latin or Spanish or Italian,” Prevost said.

“People will understand what he’s saying. They’ll see him, they’ll realize he’s one of us.”

Mother, three daughters graduate together from Georgia State University on same day

It was an emotional ceremony for a mother and her daughters as they celebrated their graduation on the same day in a full-circle moment.

The family of four are all graduates of Georgia State University (GSU). 53-year-old Quila Lee holds a master’s degree in public administration, like her oldest daughter, Rakiya. Quila recalled holding her twin daughters, Kamiya and Kalaya, in her arms during that graduation at Kentucky State in 2003. Rakiya was then 9 years old.

On May 7 this year, she received her second master’s, a Master of Arts in Teaching. She told 11 Alive, “I remember the day that they were born, and I remember them being a part of my graduation, and now I get to be a part of theirs.”

Quila is currently a seventh-grade social studies teacher at Babb Middle School in Clayton County. As a substitute teacher, she realized her passion for education and later earned her teaching certification. Now, in her new role, she finds immense satisfaction in shaping the lives of young people during their formative years.

Rakiya, the family’s oldest daughter, walked across the stage on May 7 to receive her second degree from Georgia State: a Master of Public Administration. Rakiya, now 31, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from GSU in 2017 and has since worked her way up in the city’s Department of Watershed Management.

Recently promoted to project manager, she saw firsthand the transformation of Georgia State’s downtown campus and was thrilled to see her younger sisters, Kamiya and Kalaya, follow in her footsteps by transferring to GSU.

“I think my mom is the best. I think she’s a great role model,” Kamiya said. “And I thank God that he gave me my mom… and allowed me to have somebody like her to look up to and to aspire to be like.”

The twins, Kamiya and Kalaya, both 22, were initially enrolled at Alabama State, but the pandemic caused restrictions that limited their campus experience. The desire for a better college experience closer to home led them to Georgia State, where they thrived both academically and socially.

Rakiya expressed how surreal it was to have her sisters in the same school with her and how much more surprising it was when she realized they would graduate at the same time.

For the twins, graduation from Georgia State marked a significant achievement as well. They both received bachelor’s degrees in biology.

Kamiya has already volunteered at Wellstar Cobb Hospital in various departments, including the emergency room and neonatal intensive care unit, experiences that will prove invaluable as she prepares to apply to medical school.

“I wanted to be at a place that would challenge my thinking and help me grow,” Kalaya said, explaining their decision to transfer to Georgia State after spending time at Alabama State University.

When Quila earned her first master’s degree in 2003, her three daughters were infants.

“Twenty-two years ago, you never could have told me these girls and I would be graduating together,” Quila reflected. “As any mother would be, I am so proud of them.”

“It wasn’t supposed to be like that; none of this was planned,” Kamiya added.

For the future, Quila is considering doctoral programs; Rakiya is contemplating a Ph.D. or law school; and Kamiya is preparing for medical school after working as a pharmacy technician. Kalaya, too, has big dreams of working in veterinary medicine.

Quila remarked, “I’m super proud, I’m super happy.”

She advised, “Don’t let age or anything else be a deterrent. If it’s something that you want to do, pursue it.”

Kallie Kriel applauds UK’s Visa denial to Julius Malema

Kallie Kriel applauds UK’s Visa denial to Julius Malema

AfriForum CEO Kallie Kriel has hailed the United Kingdom’s decision to deny EFF leader Julius Malema a visa as “great news,” calling it the first step toward broader international accountability. The visa rejection, confirmed on May 7, 2025, prevented Malema from attending the Cambridge Africa Together Conference, where he was scheduled to speak.

Kriel attributed the UK’s move to Malema’s continued use of the polarizing “Kill the Boer” chant, which AfriForum argues incites violence against Afrikaners and South African farmers. Slamming South African courts for their inaction and President Cyril Ramaphosa for what he views as silence on the matter, Kriel said foreign intervention is now necessary to hold Malema to account.

Malema, in turn, condemned the decision as an attack on his political freedoms, calling the visa denial “unacceptable and spineless.” The EFF framed the move as blatant political censorship intended to stifle dissenting views.

British High Commissioner to South Africa, Antony Phillipson, offered an explanation, stating that the visa was not processed in time due to procedural delays and UK bank holidays, though he stopped short of confirming whether political concerns influenced the outcome.

The incident has deepened national debate. Supporters of AfriForum view the UK’s decision as justified pushback against hate speech, while critics accuse the group of fanning racial tensions and exploiting historical pain for political gain. At the heart of the controversy lie unresolved questions about freedom of expression, the legacy of struggle songs, and the limits of political accountability in democratic societies.

India orders X to suspend thousands of accounts amid Pakistan tensions

India orders X to suspend thousands of accounts amid Pakistan tensions

The Indian government has directed social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to suspend over 8,000 accounts, citing the spread of misinformation during a period of heightened tensions with Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.

The sweeping order, issued with warnings of hefty fines and potential jail time for X’s local employees, targeted a wide array of users, including international news outlets, high-profile accounts, and reportedly a significant number of Pakistani users. Among those affected were Kashmiri-based publications such as The Kashmiriyat and Free Press Kashmir, journalist Anuradha Bhasin, and the independent news site The Wire, which was also suspended.

X confirmed it had complied with the government’s directive to avoid punitive measures but voiced strong opposition to the move, labeling it a form of censorship and an infringement on freedom of speech. The platform also noted that many of the takedown requests lacked clear justification or evidence, urging those impacted to challenge the blocks through legal avenues.

The latest clampdown underscores growing concerns over digital rights and press freedom in India, especially as regional tensions escalate.

Critics of Mali’s military government abducted – say families

In Mali’s capital, Bamako, at least two pro-democracy figures, including a senior opposition leader, were abducted by armed men after speaking out against the ruling military regime and demanding a return to democratic governance, according to their families and associates.

This comes just days after the military-led government ordered the suspension of all political party activities, a move that followed Mali’s first major pro-democracy demonstration since the 2020 coup.

Alassane Abba, the secretary-general of the Codem party, was taken from his home Thursday evening by three hooded men in military uniforms, his son told The Associated Press. The men arrived in a vehicle with black tinted windows and no license plate.

“They did not look like bandits,” said Alhousseini Jannatta Alassane, recounting the ordeal.

Roughly 15 kilometers away in Kati, another activist, El Bachir Thiam of the Yelema party, was also seized by armed men and driven off to an undisclosed location.

“We learned today of the arrest of our activist El Bachir Thiam and I call on the Malian authorities to release him. I call on those who arrested him to release him. A country is not built on gag orders,” declared former Prime Minister Moussa Mara, the Yelema party’s honorary president, in a video message posted to Facebook.

Both Abba and Thiam had recently appeared in media interviews, openly challenging the military’s grip on power and urging a transition back to constitutional rule.

Their disappearances echo the fate of Mamadou Traoré, head of the Alternative for Mali party, who was detained last month after denouncing the junta’s alliance with Russian mercenaries and criticizing military leadership.

General Assimi Goita, who orchestrated back-to-back coups in 2020 and 2021, remains at the helm of the transitional government. Just last week, a national political forum proposed that Goita be appointed president for a renewable five-year term, a move that deepens concerns over Mali’s democratic backslide.

Democrats outraged after Trump fires Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden

0

On Thursday, President Donald Trump fired Library of Congress head Carla Hayden in a move that has left Democrats fuming.

Hayden, who is the first woman and Black Librarian of Congress, received an email from the White House’s Presidential Personnel Office letting her know she had been released from her role in the final hours of the day.

“Carla,” the email began. “On behalf of President Donald J. Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as the Librarian of Congress is terminated effective immediately. Thank you for your service.”

In 2016, 72-year-old Hayden was nominated by ex-President Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate to lead the nation’s oldest federal cultural institution.

Hayden’s term of a decade was set to expire in 2026, that is, until her abrupt firing by Donald Trump on Thursday evening.

According to The Post, a spokesperson for the Library of Congress confirmed that the White House told Hayden, who had been in charge of Baltimore’s library system for many years before becoming the Librarian of Congress, that she was fired.

The unexpected decision reportedly follows accusations from conservative groups that Hayden promoted books of children with “radical” leftist agendas.

“The current #LibrarianOfCongress Carla Hayden is woke, anti-Trump, and promotes trans-ing kids,” the American Accountability Foundation tweeted earlier Thursday, just hours before the firing was made public. “It’s time to get her OUT and hire a new guy for the job!”

Democrats are clearly far from pleased about the move, but have however credited Hayden for her ability in helping to modernize the Library and making it more accessible through initiatives in online and rural communities.

Hakeem Jeffries, who is House Minority Leader lauded Hayden as “an accomplished, principled and distinguished Librarian of Congress.”

“Donald Trump’s unjust decision to fire Dr. Hayden in an email sent by a random political hack is a disgrace and the latest in his ongoing effort to ban books, whitewash American history and turn back the clock,” he continued.

“The Library of Congress is the People’s Library. There will be accountability for this unprecedented assault on the American way of life sooner rather than later,” he concluded.

Carla Hayden was also called “an American hero” hero by Rep. Joseph Morelle of New York, the top Democrat on the House Administration Committee that oversees the Library, called Hayden.

The Congress Library contains a collection of the country’s books and history available to the public as well as lawmakers.

Fat Joe Says No West Coast Artist Has Ever Dominated Like Kendrick Lamar

Fat Joe has claimed that no West Coast artist has ever quite dominated like Kendrick Lamar has over the last year.

Speaking on his new podcast Joe and Jada, the “Make it Rain” star reflected on how Kendrick has become a radio staple since his beef with Drake started.

Joe said: “What I can tell you is, boy, that Kendrick Lamar gets some spins in LA radio

He added: “I was there last week. I’ve never seen nothing like that: Every single song, ‘Turn his TV off…’ What? It’s a fact. Kendrick Lamar gets played nine out of every 10 songs in L.A. right now. Not even Snoop Dogg, not even Tupac Shakur — nobody from L.A. has dominated the paint like this guy… If you’re from L.A., you probably think there’s only one guy on Earth, Kendrick Lamar. I’m just keeping it a buck with you.”

Kanye West proclaims “FREE DIDDY” as he re-posts the contract address of a Diddy memecoin

Justin and King Combs launched their cryptocurrency venture yesterday (May 8) and Kanye West is helping spread the word.

At some point Diddy will know his future as the first week of his trial is about to be in the books. In terms of how probable him receiving a prison sentence will be, we aren’t exactly sure how likely that is. But it’s certainly on the table with the max amount of time being life behind bars.

But regardless of his future, his sons, Justin and King Combs, are doing their part in keeping their father’s name alive. The way they are going about it is through the founding of a cryptocurrency called $DIDDY. They just unveiled their venture yesterday (May 8) by creating a Twitter account and website. It was announced via Diddy’s Twitter page, which the two sons are running. “WE LOVE YOU POPS!” they wrote while including the contract address.

The latter is filled with pro-Diddy messaging (of course) with the overarching goal of $DIDDY being, “a decentralized rally cry. For culture… freedom. For anyone who ever danced to Mo Money Mo Problems. This is the moment we ride. For the mogul… [and] the memes.”

Unfortunately, their cryptocurrency journey has gotten off to a rocky start. On the official Twitter page Justin and King revealed they had been sniped. We aren’t experts in the field, but here’s what happened. “At launch, our token was sniped and dumped by an unknown wallet. We are offering a $5000 reward for information on the transaction. This was NOT a team member.”

They also included a link to the transaction number within the tweet viewable here. However, despite this, they are remaining persistent. “Despite the targeted attacks, we were still able to reach an ATH of $180M+ and will work tirelessly to achieve higher highs for our holders. We understand the controversy, but we embrace it. Help us spread positivity and support each other to become better.”

Speaking of support, Kanye West is doing just. The fellow embattled mogul, who has been backing Diddy heavily over the last couple of months, retweeted the news of $DIDDY. ” #FREEDIDDY,” Ye replied. We are sure he also meant that in terms of the Bad Boy Records founder’s trial starting.

As we said earlier it launched on Monday, May 5, and is expected to end today. The jury should be finalized with the number being 18 total. Six of them will be alternates and once that’s set, opening statements will be read on May 12.

White House blocks Pete Hegseth’s ‘widely disliked’ pick for top Pentagon role

The White House will override Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s choice for chief of staff and install its own candidate – a move aimed at insulating the Pentagon chief from further missteps amid mounting internal chaos, according to a new report in the Guardian.

Hegseth had floated Marine Col. Ricky Buria for the role following the abrupt exit of Joe Krasper, the office’s first chief of staff, who left last month after a contentious leak investigation triggered the ouster of three senior aides, the report said. Now, Buria – who was viewed by the White House as “a liability on account of his limited experience as a junior military assistant and his recurring role in internal office drama” has been sidelined.

“Ricky will not be getting the chief position,” a source familiar with deliberations told the Guardian. “He doesn’t have adequate experience, lacks the political chops and is widely disliked by almost everyone in the White House who has been exposed to him.”

While the White House typically controls agency appointments through the presidential personnel office, blocking a Cabinet secretary’s top aide “ is unusual and reflects Donald Trump’s intent to keep Hegseth by trying to insulate him from any more missteps,” the Guardian added.

“The intervention comes at a time when Hegseth’s ability to run the Pentagon has come under scrutiny,” according to the report. “It also runs into the belief inside Trump’s orbit that even the president might struggle to justify Hegseth’s survival if the secretary does not have a scandal-free next few months.”

Hegseth is not expected to fire Buria after agreeing to a compromise that allows him to remain as a senior advisor in exchange for accepting the White House’s pick for chief of staff, according to people familiar with the matter who spoke to the Guardian. The White House and Pentagon declined to comment on the report.

MAGA ‘outraged’ as NY moves to cover Trump prosecutor’s legal bills

A new provision in New York’s state budget has drawn MAGA backlash for what supporters of President Donald Trump are calling a “slush fund” to aid New York Attorney General Letitia James by covering her legal expenses.

The budget line sets aside funds for state employees facing prosecution for doing their jobs – a move that appears connected to Trump’s escalating legal retribution against those involved in his past criminal prosecutions, according to the Gothamist. The new reporting came a day after the Trump Justice Department launched a criminal probe against James, who famously won a $454 fraud judgment against the president and his real estate company.

MAGA Republicans quickly pounced on the budget line to accuse Democrats of corruption and excess.

“I can’t imagine a majority of New Yorkers not being outraged that their hard-earned dollars that go to the government are now being used — or can be used — to pay for private attorneys to defend public officials against charges of crimes that they committed, having nothing to do with their elected position,” Republican state Sen. Andrew Lanza told the Gothamist Friday.

Rep. Elise Stefanik also slammed the inclusion of the item in the budget as “shameful” and called it a “taxpayer-funded slush fund” meant to defend James.

“Letitia James, who illegally weaponized her office to pursue politically motivated witch hunts, now expects taxpayers to foot the bill for her alleged misconduct,” she wrote in a statement.

The New York Post’s conservative editorial board and New York Republican state committee chairman also hopped on to denounce the budget provision.

But supporters argue the move serves a vital purpose.

“When someone is subject to investigations because of things they did officially that are now the subject of retaliation, we believe that should be covered,” State Senate Deputy Majority Leader Michael Gianaris said during the Senate debate on the state budget, according to the Gothamist.

Trump calls for 30-day Russia-Ukraine ceasefire, warns of more sanctions

U.S. President Donald Trump has called for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, warning that Washington would impose further sanctions if the ceasefire is not respected.

Ukraine has expressed readiness to accept a U.S. proposal to enact an immediate 30-day ceasefire, while Russia has proposed only a three-day ceasefire to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two on Thursday.

Trump said in a social media post: “If the (30-day) ceasefire is not respected, the U.S. and its partners will impose further sanctions.”

“Hopefully, an acceptable ceasefire will be observed, and both Countries will be held accountable for respecting the sanctity of these direct negotiations,” Trump said.

“This ceasefire must ultimately build toward a Peace Agreement. It can all be done very quickly, and I will be available on a moment’s notice if my services are needed.”

Trump has said he wants to the end the war in Ukraine but his administration has also threatened to abandon its attempts to broker a deal if Russia and Ukraine do not make headway.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Thursday he told Trump in a telephone call that Kyiv was ready for a 30-day ceasefire with Russia “starting this minute.”

The Ukrainian president said Russia had to demonstrate its readiness to end the war, starting with an unconditional ceasefire.

Ukraine’s foreign minister said on Thursday, Russia had repeatedly violated its own 3-day ceasefire hours after it began and called the initiative a “farce”, while Moscow said Kyiv had continued fighting.

Trump opened negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin in February, trying to follow through on a campaign pledge to end the war within 24 hours of starting a second term. But he has expressed mounting frustration with both sides as the fighting drags on.

Top U.S. officials have also signaled that Washington may reconsider its role as mediator if progress is not made soon.

Melinda French Gates says she wasn’t consulted on Bill Gates’ decision to give away $200 Billion fortune

Melinda French Gates has revealed that her ex-husband, Bill Gates, did not consult her before deciding to give away nearly all of their foundation’s $200 billion fortune by 2045.

Bill Gates, 69, announced he will donate 99% of his wealth over the next two decades, effectively shutting down the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation by December 31, 2045. He plans to keep just 1% of his fortune, estimated at $1.62 billion.

“This decision was made after I left,” Melinda told Fortune, referring to her 2024 exit from the foundation. “It was made between Bill, [CEO] Mark Suzman, and the board. I think it’s a fantastic decision.”

Despite not being involved in the decision, Melinda praised the move, saying giving back to society had always been their goal. She now focuses on her own philanthropic venture, Pivotal Ventures, which supports women and girls.

Melinda stayed on as co-chair for three years after their 2021 divorce. She has recently returned to the spotlight to promote her memoir, which reflects on her high-profile split and personal growth.

Speaking on The Late Show, she said the marriage ended due to a lack of honesty and trust. She has previously cited Bill’s ties to Jeffrey Epstein as one reason for their divorce.

Bill Gates has admitted to making “mistakes” during their marriage but has not publicly addressed allegations of infidelity.

Mohamed Salah has been named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year

Liverpool superstar, Mohamed Salah, has been named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year.

Salah, 32, received more than 90% of the votes from the Football Writers’ Association’s 900 members, with his teammate Virgil van Dijk coming second, followed by Alexander Isak in third and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice fourth.

The Liverpool forward has scored 28 goals in the Premier League this season and has contributed 18 assists in 35 games.

His performances helped Arne Slot lead the Reds to their 20th English top-flight title in his debut season, levelling rivals Manchester United for the most ever.

This is the third time the Egyptian forward has won the award, tying with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry for the most. This comes after Salah helped Liverpool win the Premier League title.

Salah’s Liverpool team-mate Virgil van Dijk was his closest challenger, with the centre back finishing second in the voting.

Behind the Dutchman was Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who has scored 26 goals in all competitions this season, and was pivotal in ending the Magpies’ 56-year trophy drought, scoring against Liverpool in the final.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s Declan Rice finished fourth, recognised for his efforts in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

15 other players also received votes. These were: Bruno Fernandes, Chris Wood, Alexis Mac Allister, Morgan Gibbs White, Ryan Gravenberch, Trent Alexander Arnold, Jacob Murphy, Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer, Jean Phillipe Mateta, Murillo, Dominik Szoboszlai.

Kanye West accuses Kim Kardashian of leaving their daughter, North, alone at Met Gala

Kanye West is turning up the heat on his ongoing feud with ex-wife Kim Kardashian.

In a shocking new development, the rapper has reportedly filed a cease and desist letter, accusing Kim of exploiting their four children—North (11), Saint (9), Chicago (7), and Psalm (5).

The most jarring claim? Kanye says Kim left North alone in a parked car while she walked the Met Gala red carpet, according to TMZ. He’s now threatening legal action over the alleged incident.

This comes after Kanye’s recent lyrics hinted that his messy custody battle is what “made him a Nazi,” and follows earlier claims that a “white woman” controls his Black children.

Looks like this celebrity custody war is only getting messier.

Ghanaian World War II veteran receives gift from Prince Harry for his 100th birthday

The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, gifted a Ghanaian World War II veteran a special coin to mark his 100th birthday on Saturday. Per PEOPLE, the gift from Prince Harry came as the United Kingdom marked the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day this week.

In a May 7 post on X, Private Joseph Hammond said he was honored to welcome Prince Harry’s Invictus Games team “just ahead of my birthday this Saturday!”

“I was honoured to receive the Invictus Medal Coin from #PrinceHarry and gifted him a copy of my memoir in recognition of his unwavering commitment to veterans’ welfare,” he added.

Hammond fought together with the British army in Myanmar (then Burma) during the Second World War. The Ghanaian veteran worked as a mechanic while serving in the Asian nation.

Prince Harry and Hammond initially met during a 2019 event that the royal family hosted to commemorate British Commonwealth veterans.

“This man, especially, Prince Harry, I glued myself to him because he is also a soldier, he’s been to Afghanistan, and we spoke about the military, my battalion,” Hammond said at the time. “We exchanged ideas. It was wonderful.”

During the 2020 Pandemic, Hammond also made the news after he raised funds for frontline workers by undertaking a 14-mile walk. Prince Harry later sent him a letter of commendation, CNN reported.

“Even at ’95 years young’ I imagine it was not an easy task,” the Duke of Sussex wrote at the time. “However, given the service and selflessness you have demonstrated throughout your life, it does not surprise me that you would take on a challenge such as this – and that you wanted to walk even more miles. As you said yourself, it is amazing!”

Prince Harry in the letter also reflected on their 2019 meeting and said it was “an honor and a pleasure” to see him. “It was an honour and a pleasure to meet you at the Field of Remembrance in London last year, and Meghan and I send you our warmest wishes,” he wrote.

Michelle Obama opens up about therapy and taking full control of her next chapter

Michelle Obama is making her mental health a top priority and embracing therapy as part of her personal evolution.

In a candid conversation on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, the former First Lady and her brother, Craig Robinson, also her co-host on the IMO podcast, reflected on how their upbringing laid the foundation for emotional well-being.

Obama credited their parents for creating a “safe space” that mirrored the openness of therapy, and said she’s always leaned on close friends and family for emotional support.

“I believe in the power of sharing your challenges with other people that you trust and that can come in many forms, and it has for me,” she told Shetty. “I believe in couples therapy, I believe in it all. Whatever works for you.”

Watch a recent episode of The BreakDown podcast below and subscribe to our channel PanaGenius TV for latest episodes.

She shared that her current interest in formal therapy is rooted in her belief that guidance shouldn’t stop with age.

“I think we need to be coached throughout our lives, and I think therapy is a form of coaching.”

The Becoming author described her current life as a season of transition—one that prompted her to seek therapy with new urgency.

“I’m 60 years old. I’ve finished a really hard thing in my life with my family intact. I’m an empty nester,” she said. “Now for the first time, as I’ve said before, every choice that I’m making is completely mine now. I don’t have the excuse of, ‘Well, my kids need this, or my husband needs that, or the country needs that.’ So, how do I think about this next phase?”

The conversation also touched on persistent speculation about her marriage. On a May 1 episode of The Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett, Obama firmly dismissed rumors of a split from Barack Obama.

“If I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it,” she said, adding that her brother “would know it,” too. “I would be problem solving in public,” she explained. “I’m not a martyr.”

Backing her up, Robinson joked, “I’d be doing a podcast with (Barack Obama).”

Judge In Diddy Trial Delays Jury Selection Due To Fear That Jurors Will Get “Cold Feet”

According to Judge Arun Subramanian’s latest ruling, opening statements in the Diddy trial will immediately follow this jury selection phase.

The Diddy trial and all its related scandals have been impossible to keep up with, and things aren’t getting any less complex. Although everyone expected delays, changes, and procedural obstacles, it’s a different feeling to see them take effect.

According to XXL, Judge Arun Subramanian chose to delay the jury selection process on the fifth day of trial (Friday, May 9). Per The New York Times, jury selection will instead resume on Monday (May 12), which is when the trial was supposed to start opening statements. Now, opening statements will immediately follow jury selection on Monday, May 12.

As for the reason for this delay, Judge Subramanian expressed fear that various potential Diddy jurors could get “cold feet” over the weekend. Basically, he thinks Friday’s scheduled session would’ve had people on the fence commit and then backtrack. With this extra time for the process to resume, the idea is that they can have more time to ensure the chosen jurors will actually stay.

For those unaware, the jury selection process began on Monday (May 5). Since then, the court landed on 43 potential jurors following excuses for sexual assault experiences, law enforcement connections, and others. The court will filter this out to 12 jurors and six alternates next Monday. At least, if this new schedule stands. In general, folks expect this trial for alleged sex trafficking and more to last eight to ten weeks.

However, not every update in the trial of Sean Combs is as relevant or serious as this. Others relate to more salacious, curious, and vague celebrity connections in this case.

For example, many folks expressed shock when Michael B. Jordan’s name emerged during Diddy’s trial. Jurors reportedly answered questions about whether or not they were familiar with the actor and their feelings towards him. Apparently, this is because Cassie referenced him in her 2023 lawsuit against the Bad Boy mogul. To be completely clear, the Sinners star does not face any accusations of wrongdoing in this case.

Speaking of which, Diddy’s legal team scrutinized his relationship with Cassie, claiming they were mutually abusive to one another. We will see how this allegation and the jury selection process shapes up.

Diddy’s legal team claims that Cassie was also abusive during their relationship

Diddy’s lawyers previously attempted to exclude the footage of him attacking Cassie from his federal trial.

The Diddy trial kicked off this week, and his relationship with Cassie continues to be one of the most contentious parts of the whole process. Her allegations kicked this scandal off, but now the defense argues the story is not exactly what it seems.

Per TMZ, prosecutor Emily Anne Johnson and defense attorney Marc Agnifilo had a discussion on day four of the trial. In a New York City federal courtroom with Judge Arun Subramanian, they discussed Sean Combs and his bond with Cassie Ventura. The Bad Boy mogul’s defense claims she was also abusive in their relationship.

The debate began when prosecutor Johnson stated that Victim-1, presumably the singer, will not face cross-examination on particular medical problems. Judge Subramanian reportedly said the defense can eventually cross-examine if the prosecution removes this limitation.

In response, Marc Agnifilo revealed the defense team “is going to take the position there was mutual violence in their relationship… hitting, on both sides: DV (domestic violence).” He added: “We are absolutely going to admit to domestic violence. But at what point does it become coercive?”

Then, the judge reportedly asked Agnifilo if he means Diddy and Cassie’s relationship was outright violent. “Right. We’re saying it’s relevant,” the defense attorney reportedly replied.

On the other hand, prosecutor Johnson announced she would submit a letter to the court about this matter. This is because of her plans to present two cellphone videos and corrected footage of the 2016 hotel assault which shocked the world a year ago. Since this scandal blew up, Puff’s net worth has reportedly sank from a billion to around $400 million.

Speaking of which, Diddy’s team wants to exclude this Cassie footage from the trial. While they failed in excluding other alleged evidence from this procedure, it’s unclear if the CNN video is still on the table. Given Johnson’s comments, it seems like prosecutors are still counting on its introduction and discussion.

Elsewhere in this legal whirlwind, Diddy’s alleged victims are supposedly reconsidering their testimony. However, other aspects of the trial tipped more in favor of the prosecution’s proposals. So there are no big wins or losses so far, just complex and difficult decisions and debates. We will see if Combs and Cassie’s relationship continues to fall under the microscope.

Trump faces court battle as he fires 3 Dems day after Musk visit

Three Democratic members of the Consumer Product Safety Commission vowed on Friday to fight back after U.S. President Donald Trump moved to fire them, an effort that the trio described as part of the White House’s unlawful assault on independent agencies.

Mary Boyle, Richard Trumka Jr., and Alex Hoehn-Saric are now listed on the CPSC’s website as “former commissioners.” The Washington Post reported that Trump moved to fire the commissioners “shortly after” the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency visited the agency on Thursday.

“The Democratic commissioners objected to two DOGE employees being formally detailed to the agency,” the Post noted, citing Trumka’s account.

Boyle and Trumka said they received emails from the White House late Thursday informing them of the president’s bid to remove them from their posts. Hoehn-Saric said in a statement Friday that while he has yet to receive communication from the White House, the acting chair of the CPSC is “preventing me from executing my duties as commissioner based on an assertion that the president is also seeking my removal.”

“The illegal attempt to remove me from the CPSC happened immediately after my colleagues and I took steps to advance our safety work and protect our staff from arbitrary firings,” said Hoehn-Saric. “President Trump’s action politicizes a critical independent public safety agency that was structured by law to avoid such interference.”

All three of the Democratic commissioners indicated that they don’t intend to leave the agency quietly, following in the footsteps of commissioners at other agencies who have challenged Trump’s attempts to fire them, setting the stage for a high-stakes battle at the U.S. Supreme Court.

Trumka, son of the late labor leader Richard Trumka, said Friday that he has “a set term on this independent, bipartisan commission that does not expire until October of 2028.” Last week, Trumka defied a Trump executive order instructing federal agencies to submit all proposed rules to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs for review.

“I will continue protecting the American people from harm through that time,” Trumka continued. “The president would like to end this nation’s long history of independent agencies, so he’s chosen to ignore the law and pretend independence doesn’t exist. I’ll see him in court.”

Boyle, whose term was set to expire later this year, also signaled that she intends to remain at her post.

“Until my term as commissioner concludes,” Boyle said, “I will insist on following these time-tested principles, and I will use my voice to speak out on behalf of safety.”

Consumer advocates voiced outrage in response to Trump’s attempt to fire the CPSC commissioners.

“The illegal firing of CPSC commissioners is not just a brazen, unprecedented, and reckless assault on the rule of law, it is a direct threat to the lives and physical safety of Americans, especially our most vulnerable, infants and children,” said Courtney Griffin, Director of Consumer Product Safety at the Consumer Federation of America. “The consequences may be measured in preventable injuries, hospitalizations, and lives lost.”

William Wallace, director of safety advocacy for Consumer Reports, said in a statement that “this is an appalling and lawless attack on the independence of our country’s product safety watchdog.”

“Anyone who cares about keeping their family safe should oppose this move and demand that it be reversed,” Wallace added. “This isn’t really about the individual leaders, as commendable as they are. It’s about whether Congress can maintain a federal agency that takes strong action to protect the public, based on scientific evidence and insulated from political whims.”

Prince Andrew’s former adviser John Bryan caught on tape alleging he S3xualy assaulted underage girls

Prince Andrew’s former crisis adviser, John Bryan, has been secretly recorded claiming the Duke of York “was f—ing underage girls” during his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The footage was released by right-wing activist James O’Keefe, known for controversial undercover operations. Bryan, who dated Sarah Ferguson in the 1990s and remained close to the couple, made the comments to an undercover journalist at a public event.

“I was really p—ed because he lied to me,” Bryan said, referring to Andrew’s alleged actions with Epstein. When asked if it involved underage girls, Bryan replied, “That he was f—ing underage girls. I was so p—ed.”

Bryan had publicly defended Andrew in a 2022 Daily Mail interview, claiming the prince was innocent and that Epstein sought to manipulate him to reach Queen Elizabeth II. However, he now admits he felt misled.

Bryan became a household name in 1992 after tabloids published photos of him kissing Ferguson’s feet, sparking royal scandal. Despite the fallout, he remained a trusted confidant and was reportedly brought in to help Andrew manage the backlash from his disastrous BBC interview about Epstein.

Prince Andrew has long denied allegations of sexual misconduct involving Epstein’s victims, including Virgina Giuffre, who accused him of abusing her when she was 17. Giuffre died by suicide last month, although her family has questioned the circumstances.

A friend of Andrew downplayed Bryan’s remarks, calling them “dinner party bragging,” and claimed the two are no longer in close contact
