“Constitutional Coup? Linda Kasonde Sounds Alarm Over Zambia’s ‘Dark Path’ Toward Autocracy”

“Constitutional Coup? Linda Kasonde Sounds Alarm Over Zambia’s ‘Dark Path’ Toward Autocracy”

On Africa Freedom Day 2025, a day meant to celebrate liberty and democratic progress across the continent, Zambia finds itself facing a perilous constitutional crossroads. Linda Kasonde, a respected lawyer, activist, and Executive Director of the Chapter One Foundation, has issued a searing warning that the latest Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 7 of 2025 threatens to plunge the nation into entrenched autocracy.

Kasonde, whose voice has long been a beacon for constitutionalism and human rights in Zambia, described the new bill as “even more frightening than Bill 10 of 2019,” which was widely criticized for undermining democratic gains. The 2025 Bill, she argues, seeks to consolidate power within the executive branch and the ruling party, eroding safeguards that protect citizen rights and democratic processes.

“Since 1991, Zambia has been lauded for its transition from a one-party state to a vibrant multi-party democracy,” Kasonde said. “This bill threatens to undo all that progress by constitutionally entrenching dictatorship.”

Unlike previous constitutional review processes which, despite their flaws, at least involved some level of national consultation, Kasonde slammed the current government for rushing the Bill through without broad public engagement or debate.

“Historically, constitutional amendments were preceded by referenda or national dialogue forums President Kaunda’s 1969 referendum, Mwanawasa’s National Constitutional Conference, and Lungu’s National Dialogue Forum. This time, the government has arrogantly dismissed consultation, claiming these amendments are ‘non-contentious.’ This is a dangerous lie,” she said.

Kasonde meticulously dissected key provisions in the Bill that have raised alarm bells among legal experts, civil society, and opposition figures alike:

1. Abolishing the Three-Month Parliamentary Dissolution Period
Under the current Article 81, Parliament must be dissolved three months before a general election, ensuring no last-minute legislation that could unfairly favor the ruling party. The proposed amendment scrapping this safeguard would allow Parliament to function until the day before elections, creating a grave risk of election manipulation.

“This provision was a critical bulwark in 2021, preventing the ruling party from rushing through controversial laws just before the polls. Removing it hands unchecked legislative power to the ruling party during election periods,” Kasonde warned.

2. Curtailing By-Elections for Party-Sponsored MPs
The Bill proposes that by-elections will only apply to independent MPs, while political parties would have the power to appoint replacements for any vacated seats they originally sponsored.

“This undermines the democratic choice of voters and hands parties the power to replace popular MPs with loyalists or ‘yes men’ who may have no connection to the constituency,” said Kasonde.

3. Increasing Parliamentary Seats and Introducing Proportional Representation
The Bill seeks to expand the number of elected MPs from 156 to 211, plus additional seats for women, youth, and disabled persons elected via proportional representation. While increasing representation sounds positive, Kasonde fears this will be exploited to cement an in-built two-thirds majority for the ruling party.

“Without transparent mechanisms on how proportional representation seats will be allocated, and given the ruling party’s dominance, this amendment can skew parliamentary power further,” she explained.

4. Diminishing Qualifications for Secretary to the Cabinet
The Bill reduces the experience requirement for the Secretary to the Cabinet from ten to five years at Permanent Secretary level or equivalent.

“This weakens the senior leadership of the civil service, threatening institutional professionalism and governance standards,” Kasonde noted.

5. Broadening Grounds for Candidate Disqualification
The proposed removal of corruption and misconduct as grounds for disqualification opens the door to courts disqualifying candidates for any reason, potentially as a tool to block political opponents.

“This appears targeted, possibly aiming to exclude certain political figures from contesting elections under vague pretenses,” she said, referencing former President Edgar Lungu.

Kasonde also criticized the opaque delimitation process used by the Electoral Commission to increase constituency seats, calling it “shrouded in secrecy” and lacking transparency.
Beyond the legal technicalities, Kasonde raised serious concerns about the judiciary’s willingness to uphold constitutional protections.

“The courts failed to act decisively during the Bill 10 of 2019 challenge. If history repeats itself, the people of Zambia cannot rely on the judiciary to defend democracy,” she cautioned.

She appealed directly to Zambians, stressing that the Constitution belongs to the citizens, not politicians.

“When institutions fail, it falls upon us—the people—to rise, organize, and protect our freedoms. The country of our dreams should be a nation of unity, liberty, tolerance, and rule of law,” Kasonde declared.

Her powerful message has sparked outrage among opposition parties and civil society groups, many of whom are now mobilizing mass campaigns to resist the amendments.

As the bill moves toward parliamentary debate, all eyes will be on the government’s response and the resilience of Zambia’s democracy.

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA ADVICES ZAMBIANS TO OBTAIN NRCS

President Hakainde Hichilema has called Zambians eligible to obtain National Registration Cards (NRCs) to take advantage of the ongoing mobile exercise and acquire the vital document.

President Hichilema said that some people who missed the opportunity to obtain NRCs due to a number of reasons should take advantage of the ongoing exercise.

The Head of State was speaking to Choma residents who welcomed him back from Lusaka where he had gone to officiate at the 2025 Africa Freedom Day commemoration.

“Some people who could not obtain NRCs that time, should now take advantage of this NRC mobile registration exercise and get the vital document’’, he said.

President Hichilema emphasised that during his reign, no Zambian should be denied the opportunity to acquire an NRC as long as that person is a citizen of this country.

The Head of State has further directed Southern Province Permanent Secretary Namani Monze and other Provincial Permanent Secretaries to withdraw erring officers frustrating the exercise.

President Hichilema added that an NRC is the only document that will allow citizens to benefit from the many programmes that government is implementing such as the Social Cash Transfer among others.

THE Constitution Amendment Bill number 25 of 2025 will be published for 30 days to ensure further consultation with all Zambians before the introduction of the document to Parliament.

Minister of Justice Princess Kasune says the bill will be availed to the public before it goes for first reading in the National Assembly.

“The publication of the draft bill will give stakeholders an opportunity to read the contents and provide an objective analysis of the bill so that the country can have a refined Constitution that will stand the test of time,” Ms Kasune said in Mansa during a stakeholder consultation, engagement, awareness and sensitisation meeting on the Constitution Amendment Bill 25 of 2025, whose gazette notice was published at the weekend.

Ms Kasune had a similar stakeholders’ engagement in Central and North-Western provinces.

“African leaders talk too much but don’t implement what they agree on” – Paul Kagame expresses his dissatisfaction

Rwandan President Paul Kagame has sparked widespread discussion across social media platforms today.

According to Kagame, most leaders in Africa are more of words but little to no action. His posts reflects on the political trademark in Africa where aspirants make plenty of promises but fulfil almost none.

“African leaders talk too much but don’t implement what they agree on,” Kagame expresses frustration.

“It’s so bad that we have agreed even at a continental level with leaders and the AU at the Continental level is not implementeded,” he continued.

The quote reflects Kagame’s long-standing critique of governance on the continent. During his tenure as president of the African Union (AU) Kagame often emphasized the need for accountability and action.

In the interview, Paul also talked about the over reliance if Africa on foreign countries. According to him, leaders have the mentality that “someone out there will pay for the development of our continent.”

Notably, he spearheaded AU reforms in 2018 to improve financial sustainability and operational effectiveness, and played a key role in pushing the Continental Free Trade Area, which was ratified by 19 of the required 22 nations by the time he stepped down from his AU role in February 2019.

Three African countries are reportedly in talks with Russia to develop their railway sector

The railway sector is about to get a major boos in some African countries according to recent reports we have gathered.

According to the report, Russia’s partnership with Ghana and 3 other African countries will now be driving development towards their railways sector.

As Moscow deepens its economic footprint across Africa, Russian Railways is setting its sights on four key countries poised to become hubs in a new era of transcontinental connectivity.

Russian Railways (RZD) is targeting four African countries Burkina Faso, Ghana, South Africa and Libya for infrastructure projects.

This initiative is part of Russia’s strategy to enhance trade routes and strengthen geopolitical ties through railway modernization.

African markets are viewed as pivotal for transporting bulk goods such as minerals, oil, and gas, essential for economic growth.

Wicknell Chivayo Spends Africa Day With Kenyan President William Ruto

Wicknell Chivayo Spends Africa Day With Kenyan President William Ruto (Pictures)

Controversial Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo says he spent Africa Day in the company of Kenyan President William Ruto. Known for his flamboyant lifestyle and growing connections with high-profile leaders, Chivayo has visited Kenya several times recently.

Wicknell Chivayo Spends Africa Day With Kenyan President
Posting on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, 26 May, Chivayo described the meeting as a great honour and used the opportunity to shower Ruto with praise. He claimed their discussion touched on the importance of unity, investing in young people, and promoting good values across the continent. Chivayo wrote:

“Yesterday, on AFRICA DAY, I had the DISTINCT honour of paying a courtesy visit to His Excellency, President William Ruto. Sharing time, yet AGAIN, with such a VISIONARY leader on a day that celebrates our continental identity made the moment especially meaningful. Despite his HIGHLY DEMANDING Presidential schedule, His Excellency received me with the greatest humility and BROTHERHOOD that Africa represents. He took time, as always, to reflect on the journey of African SELF DETERMINATION and the need to invest in YOUNG people, GOOD values and purpose. Being in the company of a leader so COMMITTED to Africa’s advancement on Africa Day is certainly UNPRECEDENTED!!!”

Ruto Shared Scripture and Reflections on Leadership
Chivayo seemed especially impressed by how the Kenyan President makes time to reflect on spiritual matters, even during political discussions. He said:

“Once again, he took time to share SCRIPTURE and reflect on love, DEDICATED service and leadership grounded in FAITH. That blend of spiritual depth and practical wisdom is rare, but defines his character.”

Chivayo Reflects on Africa Day’s Meaning
Chivayo closed his message with a broader reflection on Africa Day, saying it should remind people of the vision of the continent’s founding fathers and the importance of protecting that legacy. He praised Ruto as a true Pan-African leader and echoed the sentiment that unity is strength. He wrote:

“Africa Day reminds us of the vision of the FOUNDING FATHERS of the OAU and our duty to protect and advance that LEGACY. President Ruto exemplifies Pan-African leadership. As he often says, “Umoja ni nguvu”—UNITY IS STRENGTH. I wish to Join His Excellency, the people of Kenya, Zimbabwe and indeed the rest of the CONTINENT in wishing us all a HAPPY Africa Day. Let’s celebrate the STRENGTH, UNITY and DIVERSITY of 54 incredible countries with over 1,4 billion people across the CONTINENT…”

Ukraine president, Zelensky accused Putin of playing games in their peace talk, says Russia launched 900 drone attacks on his country within past three days

President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia in what could reignite a fresh battle between them.

Zelensky in a new social media update claim there have been over 900 drone attack on his country within the past three days.

According to him, everything shows Russia isn’t ready to have a peace talk and it is clear in their recent attack, which he described as a politically motivated one.

He went on to accuse Russia’s President, Putin of not respecting diplomacy and playing games with the ongoing war between them.

In an X post, Zelensky wrote:

“Over 900 attack drones launched against Ukraine in just three days, along with ballistic and cruise missiles. There is no military logic in this, but it is a clear political choice of Russia – the choice to keep waging war.

Recently, a meeting was held in Istanbul. Now, the Russians are supposedly drafting proposals for a memorandum on peace. They’ve already spent over a week on this. But when, in the midst of all that, there are constant Russian strikes, constant killings, relentless assaults, and even preparations for new offensives — this is clearly a diagnosis.

“New and strong sanctions against Russia — from the United States, from Europe, and from all those around the world who seek peace — will serve as a guaranteed means of forcing Russia not only to cease fire, but also to show respect.

Putin must start respecting those he talks to. For now, he is simply playing games with diplomacy and with diplomats. That must change.” He added

Africa’s Modern Chains!! Debt Crisis Deepens Economic Injustice Across the Continent

Africa’s Modern Chains!! Debt Crisis Deepens Economic Injustice Across the Continent

Once plundered of its wealth and people by colonial empires, Africa now finds itself shackled by a new kind of bondage called debt. This modern form of economic oppression is no less devastating than colonial exploitation, as it drains public resources, restricts development, and silences economic sovereignty under the guise of fiscal discipline.

At the beginning of 2025, Sudan emerged as a glaring example of the continent’s debt crisis. The country’s debt-to-GDP ratio hit an alarming 252%, meaning its national debt is more than double the size of its annual economic output. This crisis is not surprising given the ongoing conflict that has ravaged Sudan’s infrastructure and institutions. However, it is also a reflection of a continental pattern of growing economic vulnerability.

Across Sub-Saharan Africa, the average debt-to-GDP ratio stood at 60% as of 2022, up from 30% in 2013. This rapid increase signals a dangerous trend. Africa’s total debt has now surpassed $1 trillion, with debt servicing costs reaching a staggering $163 billion annually.

This means that billions are leaving the continent each year just to repay loans money that could otherwise build schools, hospitals, roads, and industries.

The nature of Africa’s debt has changed. Unlike in the past, when countries borrowed from friendly states or development banks at concessional rates, today’s loans increasingly come from commercial lenders at high interest rates. Currently, 43% of Africa’s external debt is commercial a figure that has more than doubled since 2000. These debts are harder to renegotiate and come with punitive conditions.

This shift has led to severe austerity across the continent. Many African governments have been forced to slash public spending in order to meet debt obligations. In 2022 alone, 22 African countries spent more on debt interest than on healthcare, and six spent more servicing debt than investing in education. These cuts have crippled essential services and undermined the prospects of millions.

Austerity measures often mandated by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other creditors are sold as necessary for economic stability. Yet, they often result in the opposite. By gutting investments in human development and infrastructure, austerity restricts economic growth, increases inequality, and locks countries in cycles of poverty.

The effects are visible across the continent. In many countries, hospitals lack basic supplies, schools are overcrowded and underfunded, and unemployment among the youth remains dangerously high. Rather than leading to prosperity, debt has become a source of stagnation and despair. The situation is exacerbated by global economic shocks, climate disasters, and weak local industries.

Despite this grim picture, some countries have managed to stay afloat. Equatorial Guinea and Botswana, for instance, have kept their debt-to-GDP ratios at 31.3% and 27.4%, respectively. These nations benefit from small populations and high-value exports crude oil in Equatorial Guinea and diamonds in Botswana giving them revenue buffers that many others lack.

However, such examples are exceptions, not the rule. Most African countries, with large populations and limited industrialization, remain vulnerable to debt shocks. The reliance on commodity exports makes them particularly susceptible to global price fluctuations. When prices fall, revenues plummet and debt becomes unpayable.

The current debt structure continues to entrench Africa’s dependency. Many of the loans come with conditions that force governments to privatize public services, open markets to foreign competition, and reduce subsidies. These reforms often benefit multinational corporations while leaving local populations worse off.

As Africans commemorate Africa Freedom Day, the irony is stark. Political independence was achieved through great sacrifice, but economic freedom remains elusive. The debt crisis represents a modern form of control one that does not use chains or soldiers, but contracts, interest rates, and austerity clauses.

Breaking free from this system requires bold leadership, regional cooperation, and international solidarity. African countries must demand fairer lending terms, push for debt restructuring, and invest in homegrown development strategies. The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) offers a chance to boost intra-African trade and build resilient economies.

Ultimately, the path to liberation must include economic justice. Africa’s youth deserve more than commemorations of past freedom struggles they deserve real opportunities to thrive. Until then, Africa remains, in many ways, economically unfree.

Uganda army suspends all military cooperation with Germany

Uganda’s army has declared the suspension of all military cooperation with Germany, accusing its ambassador, Mathias Schauer, of being a part of “subversive activities”, as well as being “wholly unqualified” to play a role in its state.

Now, it appears the relationship between the two nations is not in a great place after Uganda chose not to back up its claim.

Germany’s foreign ministry has hit back at these claims, labelling them “absurd and without any merit”, per Reuters.

According to reports, the unforeseen attack on Schauer comes after he raised concerns at a meeting last week about army chief Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is the president’s son.

Recently on X, Kainerugaba threatened to behead opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, widely known as Bobi Wine.

The General did not stop there. He also boasted about torturing Wine’s bodyguard after detaining him, and it has led rights groups to accuse the Ugandan government of targeting the opposition, particularly when elections are up.

Wine is expected to run against President Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power for about four decades, in an election which takes place next year.

Museveni’s critics claim that his government is run by a family dynasty, as his wife, Janet Museveni is the minister of education, and his brother, Gen Salim Saleh, is the chief coordinator of a government programme known as Operation Wealth Creation.

In a private meeting with European Union (EU) diplomats last week, Gen Saleh was present as Schauer brought to the table the army chief’s controversial tweets and the “reputational damage” it was causing to Uganda, per local media.

On Sunday, Gen Kainerugaba hit back with a post, saying he was “having issues” with the German ambassador “that has to do with him as a person”.

“He is wholly unqualified to be in Uganda. It has nothing to do with the great German people. Whom I admire a lot,” he posted.

A different statement also sees army spokesman Col Chris Magezi stating that Uganda was suspending with immediate effect all defence and military cooperation with Germany because of “credible intelligence reports” that Schauer was involved in “subversive activities”.

“The suspension will remain in force until the full resolution of the matter of the Ambassador’s involvement with pseudo political-military forces operating in the country against the Ugandan government,” the statement added, without giving evidence to substantiate its claims.

On the website of Germany’s embassy in Uganda, it is stated that bilateral trade between the two nations was worth around $335m (£247m) in 2024, and their relationship was based on “stability and trust.”

Over the years, Uganda has been heavily involved in peacekeeping operations, as they offered help in Somalia to fight armed Islamist groups trying to overthrow the government.

Observers Worried Over Bishop T.D. Jakes’ Weight Loss

Some fans online have expressed worry over Bishop T.D. Jakes looking a bit leaner after experiencing a health incident last year.

The reactions came when the preacher shared a video on his Instagram page to promote an upcoming event dubbed “Good Soil Forum” set to take place in Dallas.

He told his followers that he would be a featured speaker for the entrepreneurship event, which has other guests including Oprah Winfrey and others.

While he encouraged his followers to attend the event, some of his followers commented about his new appearance.

“When did you lose all that weight?” a user asked before another replied, “When he got sick. He has lost a lot of weight. He looks good.”

In November, Bishop Jakes suffered a medical emergency at church while preaching to his congregation.

Last month, he stepped aside as senior pastor of The Potter’s House, after leading his congregation for about three decades.

He passed on the mantle to his daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, and his son-in-law, Pastor Touré Roberts.

His daughter and son-in-law would assume their roles officially in July as Bishop Jakes would remain a board member of the church.

Speaking to his followers after the medical emergency at church, he noted: “I cannot afford, especially after November, to risk something happening to me, and you be sheep without a shepherd.”

Incoming Head Preacher, Jakes-Roberts, responded to her father’s decision saying: “As your pastor-elect, co-senior pastor elect, I’m grateful, I’m honored. As your daughter, I’m so happy you’re going to get some rest.”

The Potter’s House had since released a statement confirming the shift in administration or leadership, saying it was necessary to give the youth an opportunity lead.

Appearing recently on the Today Show in March, Bishop Jakes stated that he was not aware of what was happening around him at the time of the heart attack.

“I didn’t really realize what was happening to me onstage until I got to the hospital in an ambulance…And the doctor leaned over in my ear and said, ‘You’ve had a massive heart attack,” he stated. Jakes explained that he was surprised about the incident, as he did not have the traditional symptoms of a heart attack.

Man demolishes the house he built for his in-laws after their daughter divorced him after 10 years of marriage for another man

Revenge after a failed relationship comes in many forms, while some resort to lethal methods, others use the reclamation approach.

In a shocking turn of events, a man reportedly demolished a house he had constructed for his in-laws after his wife of ten years divorced him to marry another man.

The incident which took place somewhere in Zambia has left people in shock and the brotherhood proud.

According to sources close to the situation, the man had invested significant time, effort, and resources into building the home for his in-laws as a gesture of goodwill during his marriage.

However, following the dissolution of the couple’s decade-long union, the man allegedly took drastic action, tearing down the structure.

The message from the man seems to be perfectly clear, their new in law should also build for them since the parents approved the divorce.

The man’s former wife and her family have not issued a public statement regarding the incident, and it remains unclear whether legal action will be pursued.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the demolition, including property ownership and any potential legal ramifications.

South Africa propose $1 Billion LNG deal with US to avert tariffs, boost trade

South Africa propose $1 Billion LNG deal with US to avert tariffs, boost trade

South Africa has proposed a $1 billion annual liquefied natural gas (LNG) import deal with the United States, in a bid to strengthen economic ties and fend off looming US tariffs.

The 10-year agreement, discussed during talks between President Cyril Ramaphosa and US President Donald Trump, would see South Africa secure duty-free exports of cars, steel, aluminum, and auto parts in return.

Under the draft plan, the US would also invest in South Africa’s gas infrastructure, including controversial fracking operations. Trade Minister Parks Tau described the deal as a critical step to diversify the country’s economy and preserve jobs amid fears of losing benefits under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).

Despite strained diplomatic overtones exacerbated by Trump’s renewed “white genocide” claims Ramaphosa’s visit secured pledges for ongoing economic cooperation and US participation in the G20 summit in Johannesburg.

Malema vows private investigation in CweCwe rape case after NPA drops charges

Malema vows private investigation in CweCwe rape case after NPA drops charges

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has pledged to pursue private investigation in the case of seven-year-old CweCwe, who was allegedly sexually assaulted at Bergview College in October 2024.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) dropped the case on, citing insufficient evidence following inconclusive medical examinations and interviews with the child.

Speaking to supporters in Kwakwatsi, Free State, on May 25, Malema condemned the NPA’s decision, calling it a failure of justice for the young victim. “We will not rest until CweCwe gets justice,” he declared, promising to support the family through private prosecution and ensure the child receives top medical care for her trauma.

Malema emphasized the EFF’s commitment to protecting women and children, stating, “Cases like CweCwe’s show why the EFF must fight on.”

The NPA’s decision sparked nationwide protests, with citizens decrying systemic failures in addressing gender-based violence. The case, which initially implicated the school’s principal, led to DNA testing of staff but yielded no charges.

Malema also called for public access to the National Sex Offenders Register to expose perpetrators and protect vulnerable children.

As public outrage grows, Malema’s push for private prosecution signals a broader distrust in South Africa’s justice system, raising questions about accountability and the handling of sensitive cases.

Diddy’s Alleged Sex Worker “The Punisher” Reflects On His Shocking Trial Testimony

The supposed sex worker who allegedly participated in Diddy’s “freak-off” parties thinks he helped the mogul more than he hurt him.

While there have been many witness testimonies so far in the federal trial of Diddy, The Punisher’s is one of the most curious. The alleged sex worker and erotic dancer who allegedly worked at “freak-off” parties recently spoke to Fox News Digital about his time on the stand.

According to AllHipHop, The Punisher (real name Sharay Hayes) expected to support the prosecution’s case. However, he reportedly feels like he might’ve ended up helping the defense more with his witness testimony.

Hayes alleged Sean Combs and Cassie Ventura, who allegedly organized these parties, first hired him in 2012 to perform what Hayes thought would be a regular strip tease. Rather, it was allegedly an intimate party at the Trump hotel in New York. He claimed his “freak-offs” with the couple comprised of a lot of baby oil and Combs occasionally wearing a hijab to hide his face.

Furthermore, The Punisher alleged he engaged in eight to 12 sexual encounters over two and a half years and said he never saw Diddy using drugs or appearing drunk. He also claims he never perceived Ventura as uncomfortable during these parties.

“Honestly, going into the courtroom… I thought I was prepared for it, but it was extremely nerve-wracking,” Sharay Hayes remarked concerning the Diddy trial. “You can’t really prepare yourself, and I had no idea it was going to be that many people, that many rows and tables. So I want to say, for about half of the testimony, I couldn’t even locate where he was. It was a really intense atmosphere.”

“I really thought my testimony – because there was nothing negative, nothing whatever – I really thought it was something that the defense would benefit from,” he continued. “I’m not a legal analyst or anything. But sometimes I said, well, maybe the prosecution just wants to question me and have everything in case the defense calls me. Because I really couldn’t understand how I was significant to their case. But there’s probably something there that I’m just unaware of.”

The Diddy trial will continue tomorrow (Tuesday, May 27) and will hear from his former assistant Capricorn Clark on the stand.

George Floyd’s 11-Year-Old Daughter Says She’s Being Bullied in School

George Floyd’s daughter, Gianna, is still facing bullying at her Texas middle school five years after her father’s death. Classmates use hateful words and false claims that echo attacks on her father’s legacy. Gianna, now 11, once stood on NBA star Stephen Jackson’s shoulders and proudly said, “Daddy changed the world.” Today, she’s targeted by the same right-wing rhetoric trying to discredit George Floyd’s memory.

Her mother, Roxie Washington, feels caught between wanting to protect Gianna and helping her learn to stand up for herself. “Do I run up to the school and act like ‘Who did what?’ Or do I let her fight her own battle?” Washington said, according to BET. “I don’t want her to feel like she’s by herself. But I want her to be able to stand on her own two feet.”

Meanwhile, some conservative voices continue to spread false claims about Floyd’s death. Ben Shapiro, for example, falsely says Floyd died from a drug overdose. Official reports show Floyd died from cardiopulmonary arrest caused by police restraint.

Former police officer Derek Chauvin, who knelt on Floyd’s neck for more than nine minutes, was convicted of murder in 2021 and is serving 22 and a half year in prison. Despite this, some continue to campaign for his release, spreading misinformation that not only affects Floyd’s legacy but also Gianna’s everyday life.

Lawyers Warn Prosecutors That They’re Still Nowhere Close To A Conviction In Diddy’s Trial

Diddy is facing charges of alleged sex trafficking and racketeering in the ongoing criminal trial, which will continue on Tuesday.
The prosecution in Diddy’s ongoing criminal trial has yet to prove the Bad Boy mogul is guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking, according to several attorneys who spoke with NBC News following the second week of testimony in the case. The group of lawyers explained that the prosecution must convince the jury of Diddy’s alleged involvement in a criminal enterprise with a group of people engaging in criminal acts in order to get a conviction.

One criminal defense attorney, Tama Beth Kudman, told the outlet: “I’m not seeing the development of a racketeering enterprise. I’m not seeing the thread that creates an enterprise with a unified purpose.” Overall, Diddy is facing one count of racketeering conspiracy; two counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion; and two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.

Numerous people have already taken the witness stand, but Diddy’s ex-girlfriend, Cassie, had by far the longest testimony. Kudman suggested that if Cassie only participated in Diddy’s alleged “freak-offs” out of fear of being abused, then the jury could interpret that as being forced. This would help with the alleged sex trafficking conviction.

“The bottom line here is I’m not seeing any points in time where this converts from willing participation into trafficking,” Kudman said. “She seems to be a willing participant in these sex acts. You literally have to prove she was being trafficked and forced to commit a sex act.”

Rachel Maimin, a former federal prosecutor for the Southern District of New York who now works as a criminal defense attorney, noted that it is still very early in the case. The entire trial will last eight weeks. “This is a very long trial, and all of the evidence doesn’t come in through one witness,” Maimin said. “Just because the evidence hasn’t been presented yet doesn’t mean they don’t have it.”

Diddy’s criminal trial will continue on Tuesday as court is not in session due to Memorial Day Weekend. Prosecutor Maurene Comey has already confirmed the next witness. It will be the Bad Boy mogul’s former employee Capricorn Clark, according to CNN.

Tory Lanez’s Attacker Claims He Acted In Self-Defense

Tory Lanez‘s prison attacker, who stabbed him 14 times, has claimed that he was acting in self-defense.

Santino Cosio, the alleged attacker, who is already serving a life sentence for murder, spoke with TMZ about his view of the stabbing.

Casio claims that he heard on the prison grapevine that Lanez was planning to attack him and had put a bounty out on his head.

Casio added that he then crossed paths with the Canadian rapper and that he saw something bulging out of his pocket.

The convict said he believed it was a weapon so attacked Lanez.

Casio and Lanez used to be based in neighboring cells and allegedly had a previously positive relationship.

It is not know what led to the breakdown in their relationship while Casio also claims to have been stabbed during the melee.

In response to the interview, Lanez’s legal team said: “The recent attempt on his life was savage and ferocious, underscoring the clear and present danger he faces while incarcerated. Any claim to the contrary particularly from an individual serving a life sentence for heinous crimes is not only baseless but an absurd fabrication.”

They added: “His continued confinement is both a miscarriage of justice and a threat to his safety. He must be released immediately.”

The Canadian rapper was stabbed a total of 14 times even though it is reported that prison staff responded to the attack immediately and gave Lanez prompt medical aid before he was transferred to hospital.

Lanez suffered serious injuries from the attack with both of his lungs collapsing resulting in him being put on a breathing machine by doctors.

Despite the severity of the attack, Lanez is now breathing on his own and able to talk.

He is also expected to make a full recovery from the attack.

Lanez is currently serving a 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.

His lawyers are currently using the incident to attempt to get him a pardon from California Governor Gavin Newsome but that has been met with silence by the politician while Megan herself blasted Lanez’s most recent bid for freedom.

Diddy Reportedly Earning Millions In Jail

Diddy is reportedly earning millions despite being behind bars after setting up a new side hustle.

According to The US Sun, since his arrest, Diddy has set up a new business renting out his $60 million private jet.

The jet has been available for private rental since September last year and has been hired 126 times up until earlier this month.

Records show that the jet has been in use virtually every other day since September and has clocked up almost 150,000 miles.

It costs $32,597 for a single journey on the jet meaning the venture has earned Diddy more than $4 million since September.

Diddy had previously offered to put the jet up as collateral in a bid to get released from jail on bail. However, this was rejected by the judge.

Diddy and his team are yet to comment on the reported business venture.

Diddy’s sex trafficking trial is set to continue tomorrow (May 27) following the bombshell testimony of Kid Cudi last week.

Subpoenaed to testify about his brief relationship with Cassie in 2011, Cudi claimed that Diddy once broke into his Los Angeles home.

Cudi testified that after Diddy found out about his relationship with Cassie, a friend phoned him to report that the Bad Boy Records founder had broken into his home.

On his way back home, Cudi said that he phoned Diddy with the record executive telling him: “I’m over here waiting for you.”

Cudi testified that he arrived at his home to find his security cameras were not working and that intruders had gone through his belongings, including opening Christmas presents intended for his family.

Cudi further said that his dog had been injured in the incident and locked in the bathroom.

The “Pursuit of Happiness” rapper added that after the incident his dog had become “jittery and on edge”.

Cudi described his feelings towards Diddy after the break in, saying: “I wanted to confront him, I wanted to fight him.”

The rapper and occasional actor also said that he filed a police report over the incident

Cudi also accused Diddy of blowing up his Porsche, something the rapper and producer denied to him in a private conversation.

Supreme Court temporarily shields DOGE from disclosing operational records

Chief Justice John Roberts on Friday granted a temporary reprieve to Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), halting lower court orders that would have compelled the agency to release operational records to the public.

The pause follows an emergency appeal filed by the Trump administration in response to a lawsuit brought by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), a government watchdog group, AP reported. The core of the dispute centers on whether DOGE qualifies as a federal agency and is thus subject to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) or whether it functions solely as a presidential advisory body.

CREW argues that DOGE, a key player in President Donald Trump’s effort to overhaul the federal government, exerts significant influence behind the scenes and therefore must be held to transparency standards under FOIA. In its February lawsuit, the organization stated DOGE “wields shockingly broad power” without offering any public insight into its operations.

U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper sided with CREW, observing that DOGE appears to operate far beyond the scope of a typical advisory group.

He cited claims that it played a pivotal role in dismantling the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and slashing billions from federal contracts. Cooper ordered the agency to hand over relevant documents and required acting DOGE administrator Amy Gleason to testify under oath by June 13.

However, the Trump administration challenged the order, maintaining that DOGE’s role is merely consultative and therefore exempt from FOIA. “DOGE is just a presidential advisory body aimed at rooting out waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government,” officials argued.

In the appeal, Solicitor General Dean John Sauer criticized the lower court’s decision, calling the requirements “extraordinarily overbroad and intrusive.”

This case adds to a growing list of emergency legal battles that have reached the Supreme Court as Trump continues to push forward with sweeping changes to the executive branch.

SABOI OPERATES IN DIVISIVE ENVIRONMENTS – KATEKA

By Mubanga Mubanga

New Heritage Party (NHP) leader Chishala Kateka says NDC president Saboi Imboela is used to operating in divisive environments.

And Kateka says Imboela is no longer a member of United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) because she was expelled.

But Imboela said whoever claimed that she was being used by the UPND to destabilise the opposition was an idiot.

Daily Revelation contacted Kateka on Imboela’s claims that the NHP leader was not part of UKA and that she was a boardroom politician, as she was rarely on the ground.

In response, Kateka said, “Now, you are a person with your own ability to analyse. If one person is expelled by a group, then that person expels the chairman by herself, who is expelled?”

Kateka said she had no time to discuss Imboela’s issues and was not available for gutter politics.

Simon Mwewa has been st0ned by marketeers inside Simon Mwewa Lane Market

Simon Mwewa Lane Attacked by Angry Marketeers “I Was Just Trying to Clean the Street, Not My Forehead!”

In what can only be described as a real-life episode of “Zuba meets Komboni House”, social media influencer and self-declared Komboni clean-up marshal, Chitambala Mwewa, famously known as Simon Mwewa Lane, found himself caught in a dramatic scuffle with furious marketeers trading illegally.

According to a video posted on his Facebook page (link: Simon’s Cry for Reinforcement), Mr Mwewa appeared dazed and bleeding from the forehead and not because of poor skincare, but because a flying object (possibly a tomato, rock, or both) decided to disagree with his patriotism.

“I have been attacked by marketeers!” he shouted, holding his phone in one hand and courage in the other. “Council police, send backup! This is not komboni warfare I signed up for!”

Sources say the marketeers, who were stationed illegally like uninvited nshima at a wedding, didn’t take kindly to Simon’s presence. “He just came like mwine mushi, filming and talking ati ‘this is illegal!’ Before we knew it, stones started flying like it’s a political by-election,” said one tomato vendor while still clutching her chitenge.

One eyewitness claimed the stoning session was so intense it would make even Goliath duck. “He tried to speak sense, but ba mayo were already in warrior mode ifyafula ku chibolya!”

Meanwhile, Zambians on social media had mixed reactions:

One user wrote: “Next time go with komboni armour helmet, bulletproof vest, and a council badge from 1964.”

Another added: “Ba Simon, we love your work but sometimes pa komboni, just greet and keep moving – filming ninshi?”

Calls are being made for increased security in markets and for influencers to bring backup… or at least duck faster.

As for Simon? “I’m okay,” he later posted. “But ba Council, next time mule tuma na ba komboni Avengers, not just me and my camera!”

Up your game by choosing president or we will take over – Opposition youths

Up your game by choosing president or we will take over – Opposition youths

A COALITION of opposition party youths, operating under the banner of Umozi Kumawa, has issued a warning to the Patriotic Front, Tonse Alliance, and other opposition parties to elect a unified leader by August 2025, or face a youth takeover.

The ultimatum was delivered by Umozi Kumawa spokesperson Chanonda Ngwira to Kalemba, shortly after United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) chairperson Sakwiba Sikota addressed youths outside the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court following the conviction of Mfuwe Member of Parliament Maureen Mabonga.

Ngwira stated that Zambians are seeking a unified opposition capable of effectively challenging the ruling party.

“I want to appeal to Patriotic Front, Tonse Alliance, Citizens First Party and other opposition political parties to up their game so that they can compete with President Hakainde Hichilema. 2026 must be about change of regime, must be bringing back the freedom of the people,” he said.

Ngiwra said the political party leaders must drop their ego and choose a leader before it is late.

He added that if their leaders are not willing to drop their ego, the youths are willing to take over.

“The young people will take over, it doesn’t matter the political party one belongs to, we are going to take over and be in front, so that they [leaders] can be behind and give us wisdom,” Ngwira said.

He said the youths will only be seeking wisdom from them when they take over because they seem not to be ready.

President Hakainde Hichilema, Why the Rush? Amending the Constitution Before 2026 Is a Dangerous Betrayal of the People’s Trust

President Hakainde Hichilema, Why the Rush? Amending the Constitution Before 2026 Is a Dangerous Betrayal of the People’s Trust

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

In the soul of every true democracy lies its Constitution: a solemn pact born out of struggle, vision, and the collective will of a people determined to shape their own destiny. For Zambia, this document is not just ink on paper; it is the cornerstone of justice, unity, and national identity. It is sacred. Yet today, that very foundation is under attack, not by enemies abroad but by those in power who once promised to protect it.

President Hakainde Hichilema, the man who once rode into office on the back of hope and a commitment to democratic values, is now leading a rushed, secretive, and divisive push to amend our Constitution before the 2026 general elections. The people of Zambia are no longer asking why; they are demanding answers.

A Shameless Betrayal of Promises

When the UPND was in opposition, President Hichilema passionately condemned the manipulation of constitutional reform processes. He insisted that any amendments must be thorough, inclusive, and consensual, with sufficient time, nationwide consultations, and genuine agreement. He promised that no ruling party should ever abuse the Constitution to serve its own interests. That was the promise. That was the hope.

But what has become of those noble ideals?

When the UPND administration introduced the idea of constitutional amendments, it reassured the nation that due process would be followed and that the process would be limited strictly to “non-contentious” issues. But now, the mask has slipped. The proposed changes are deeply contentious. They alter the very structure of governance, threaten the balance of power, and undermine the pillars of democracy itself. Worse still, the promised process of thoroughness, inclusivity, and consensus, with adequate time and genuine consultation, is not being followed.

Public hearings have been minimal and rushed. Key stakeholders, including the Law Association of Zambia, the Council of Churches in Zambia, and numerous civil society groups, have raised red flags about the lack of transparency, the narrow timelines, and the absence of a national referendum on critical issues. Is this the open, democratic process Zambians were promised?

We Are Not Fooled

Zambians are watching, and we are not blind. We see through the carefully worded statements, the empty reassurances, and the manufactured urgency. If these amendments were truly harmless, why is there such a loud national outcry? Why are civil society organizations, church bodies, legal experts, and ordinary citizens united in concern?

The truth is simple and chilling. What is being disguised as reform is nothing more than political engineering, crafted not to improve governance but to strengthen partisan control ahead of 2026.

A Dark Echo from Our Past

This is not the first time Zambia has walked this dangerous path. We remember how President Frederick Chiluba, Zambia’s second Republican President, shamelessly amended the Constitution in 1996 to disqualify Dr. Kenneth Kaunda from contesting the presidency. The amendment introduced a clause that required both parents of a presidential candidate to be Zambian by birth. This targeted provision was aimed squarely at Dr. Kaunda, whose father was Malawian, thereby excluding him from the electoral process. It was a blatant act of political exclusion wrapped in legal language.

That moment marked a dark chapter in our democracy, where power was prioritized over principle and manipulation replaced merit.

Is history repeating itself under a different name? Is President Hichilema walking that same discredited road?

Zambia’s Constitution must never be used as a personal or partisan weapon. When constitutional change is driven by fear of political defeat rather than by the national good, it becomes nothing but a betrayal of the people’s trust.

The Constitution Is Ours, Not Yours

Let us remind those in power that the Constitution does not belong to the President, to Parliament, or to the ruling party. It belongs to the people of Zambia.

It is not a tool to be wielded for short-term political advantage. It is a legacy document meant to serve generations, not regimes.

Tampering with it for electoral positioning is not just irresponsible. It is retrogressive, dangerous, and a slap in the face of every Zambian who believed in real change.

If the Constitution can be altered on a whim, what protects the rights of the weak from the whims of the powerful? What assurance remains that future elections will be free, fair, and credible?

Whose Interests Are You Serving, Mr. President?

If the overwhelming national consensus says, “Let us wait until after the 2026 elections,” then who benefits from this sudden, frantic rush? Who stands to gain?

It is not the farmer struggling to feed his family in Choma.
It is not the unemployed youth in Ndola desperate for opportunity.
It is not the teacher, overworked and underpaid in Eastern Province, or the nurse at a rural clinic without basic supplies.

The answer is becoming clear. This process serves the political elite, not the people. It is designed to entrench power, weaken checks and balances, and tilt the electoral playing field before Zambians can speak through the ballot.

Zambia Deserves Better

President Hichilema, you once inspired a nation by promising to uphold democracy, not to undermine it. You stood for justice, fairness, and the rule of law. The people believed in you. They voted for you because they believed in your leadership and your promises.

But that belief is hanging by a thread.

If you truly want to leave behind a legacy worth remembering, pause this process. Listen to the people. Respect the will of the nation. Constitutional amendments must never be rushed, especially not in ways that fail to reflect the collective voice of the people or address the real issues facing ordinary Zambians—unemployment, hunger, healthcare, education, and corruption.

Final Words

A Constitution born out of manipulation will always be tainted. A Constitution passed in haste will never stand the test of time. And a Constitution forced on the people will never earn their respect.

President Hichilema, you were trusted. Do not squander that trust for political gain.

Stop the rush. Respect democracy. Honour the people.

Let the Constitution reflect the spirit of Zambia, not the ambitions of a few.

PREROGATIVE OF MERCY, THE CASE OF NICKSON CHILANGWA

PREROGATIVE OF MERCY, THE CASE OF NICKSON CHILANGWA

Authored By Hon Mupishi Jones

Our Dear President,
Today, we’re coming to you Sir,with a pleading hand.

With your guidance,we believe the prerogative of mercy is a preserve of the President and if that’s so,we are pleading with you to extend part of the mercy to Nickson Chilangwa.

We’re purely driven by human empathy after watching the funeral procession of the late Nickson Chilangwa’s wife and a mother to his children.

We know he’s not the only prisoner in prison deserving pardon, but we believe currently he is the only one in prison in such circumstances.

We are pleading from a human empathy point of view. When we saw his picture, with a prisoner written all over his face, holding his mourning children, very few parents and children were spared from natural human emotional collapse.

The experience of having a parent in prison while also mourning the loss of the other parent is deeply traumatic and complex.

It involves navigating grief, financial instability, and the potential loss of stability and future prospects.

The emotional toll can be significant, impacting mental health,a sense of hopelessness and overall well-being.

Losing a mother and having a father in prison represents a double loss, creating a unique and challenging situation. This can lead to feelings of isolation, confusion, and a sense of being overwhelmed.

This is a point in life where Christians find comfort only in God and Your Excellence,God works through people, right now,we believe His working through you.

The grieving process for the deceased parent can be complicated by the ongoing stress of the incarcerated parent.

Children may experience emotional trauma, particularly if they were present during the parent’s arrest regardless of the circumstances.

Prison is a reformatory place and we think this experience must have reformed Chilangwa.

It will stand out as the most painful side of his prison life more than the other sides including the political side.

Mr President,we know you’re not a person driven by vengeance but by principles of right against wrong, legal against illegal, moral against immoral.

We’re pleading to you Sir through your prerogative of mercy to once again extend your mercy to the Chilangwa family.

Sir,we know you always consult God in such dilemmas and we’re confident that God will guide you and it is our duty to accept whatever decision.

We submit.

“They keep telling me I will die like Gaddafi or any young leader… I am not scared,” Captain Ibrahim Traore reveals

Not all country leaders can boldly stand in the face of deaths and not flinch while at it, especially in Africa where most leaders are somewhat “corrupt.”

President of Burkina Faso Captain Ibrahim Traroe has revealed that he is not afraid to die and won’t regret doing so as far as he is doing it for the people and citizens of Burkina.

“They keep telling me I will die like Gaddafi, Thomas Sankara, or any young leader that tried to make Africa better. I am not scared and I won’t regret dying for my people, ” Ibrahim Traore stated.

Captain Traroe took over the government of Burkina Faso through a Coup D’etat in September 2022 after several failed democratic governance.

Since he took over, the country has seen immense growth and development under the leader. It now owns most of it minerals and has increased its productional value on local products.

Boris Johnson’s allies ‘urging him to make bombshell return’ as Tory leader

Allies of former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson are reportedly working behind the scenes to orchestrate a dramatic return to the leadership of the Conservative Party, as pressure mounts on current leader Kemi Badenoch following a wave of electoral setbacks and declining poll numbers.

The development comes in the wake of devastating local election results earlier this month, in which the Conservatives lost more than 600 councillors and control of all the councils they previously held. Badenoch, who succeeded Rishi Sunak as party leader in November after defeating Robert Jenrick, has also struggled to win over critics in Parliament, with concerns raised over her performances at Prime Minister’s Questions.

A recent YouGov poll placed the Conservatives in fourth place nationally, trailing Labour, Reform UK, and the Liberal Democrats. With the party’s standing in freefall, speculation has intensified about the possibility of leadership change — despite party rules that prevent a formal confidence vote before 2 November.

Sources have revealed that a faction of Conservatives is actively pushing for Johnson’s return, believing he is the only figure with enough political gravitas to challenge Reform UK leader Nigel Farage and revive the party’s fortunes. One senior Tory, speaking to The Sun on Sunday, said: “Some of the old gang around Boris Johnson are back texting and in talks to get him to return. The feeling is he is the only man who can take on Nigel Farage and win. They want to bring back Boris.”

According to another party insider, even some staff at Conservative headquarters have begun covertly supporting what has been dubbed “Project Boris.” The Sunday Times reported that Johnson loyalists are exploring options to modify party rules, potentially allowing him to lead from outside Parliament until the next general election. Johnson, who stepped down as MP in 2023, has remained politically active, particularly on foreign policy issues such as Ukraine and Brexit.

A recent More in Common poll indicated that Johnson is the only potential leader under whom the Conservatives outperform Farage’s Reform UK in public support.

While the possibility of Johnson’s return remains unofficial, supporters are considering a range of tactics to force Badenoch’s resignation. These include initiating a confidence vote at the party’s national convention, campaigning for a rules change to permit an earlier parliamentary vote, publishing a letter signed by more than half of Conservative MPs calling for her to step down, or staging mass resignations from the shadow cabinet.

Former Johnson aide Guto Harri told Times Radio that the party may soon face another leadership contest. “The danger there is that the party makes the wrong decision again and chooses somebody like Robert Jenrick, who’s a pale imitation of what Kemi Badenoch is trying to be a pale imitation of, which is Nigel Farage and Reform,” he said.

However, not all senior Conservatives support a leadership change. Former Cabinet minister Michael Gove issued a warning against removing Badenoch, arguing that doing so would send the wrong message to the public. “The people who are anxious to get rid of Kemi don’t themselves have a convincing answer of what the Conservative Party should do,” Gove said. “And I actually think that if the Conservative Party were to do that, it would confirm even further a reputation in people’s minds, that we were only interested in ourselves, and not actually interested in what was good for the whole country.”

As internal party tensions rise, all eyes remain on Boris Johnson and whether he will heed the calls of his supporters to stage a political comeback ahead of the next general election.

‘The government will win!’ Trump taunts Harvard

President Donald Trump lobbed new threats against Harvard University in his ongoing attack against the Ivy League school.

The president demanded a list of all the international students studying at Harvard and their countries of origin after a federal judge blocked his administration’s effort to prohibit the school from enrolling anyone on a student visa, and on Monday morning he threatened to take away grant money and give it to trade schools instead.

“I am considering taking Three Billion Dollars of Grant Money away from a very antisemitic Harvard, and giving it to TRADE SCHOOLS all across our land,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “What a great investment that would be for the USA, and so badly needed!!!”

Homeland Security secretary Kristi Noem took Harvard off the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certification last week, saying international students must transfer to other schools to remain in the U.S., but a federal judge ruled Friday that the administration’s moves against the university were a violation of the First Amendment.

“We are still waiting for the Foreign Student Lists from Harvard so that we can determine, after a ridiculous expenditure of BILLIONS OF DOLLARS, how many radicalized lunatics, troublemakers all, should not be let back into our Country,” Trump posted. “Harvard is very slow in the presentation of these documents, and probably for good reason! The best thing Harvard has going for it is that they have shopped around and found the absolute best Judge (for them!) – But have no fear, the Government will, in the end, WIN!”

Emmanuel Macron is hit in the face by his wife

A video of Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, getting shoved by his wife, Brigitte Macron, has emerged, shocking the international community.

Macron has landed in Vietnam for the start of his Southeast Asia tour, but a squabble on the plane has taken attention away from his diplomatic mission.

Shortly after the aeroplane doors were opened, Macron appeared to speak to his wife, who was standing near the cockpit entrance.

Suddenly, his wife Brigitte’s hands reached out and appeared to smack the French president’s mouth.

Macron appears momentarily surprised but quickly regains his composure and waves to the press outside.

As the couple descend the steps, Macron offers Brigitte his arm, which she does not take, opting instead to hold the railing.

Macron’s team initially denied the authenticity of the image before they were later confirmed as genuine.

Upon confirmation that the video was real, those who work closely with the couple played it down as a “little fun” between the couple.

They said: “It was a moment for the President and his wife to unwind one last time before the start of the trip by having a little fun.”

“It’s a moment of togetherness. No more was needed to feed the mills of the conspiracy theorists,” they added.

The incident has been condemned online, and body language expert Judi James told Metro the exchange was “unthinkable”.

Judi James said: “You do not push your partner in the face so hard with your hands, literally touching their face and nose so hard that their head wheels away from you.

“That wouldn’t be a fun gesture in anyone’s books. If she’d been standing where he was and his hand had come out and done that to her, the word fun wouldn’t remotely apply.

“I don’t see any giggling or any other signs of what would be called play fighting being exchanged. He had to literally get his balance back,” she added.

After the exchange, Ms James noted that the pair had “no physical touch” while walking down the stairs, and Brigitte had her face hidden by her hair.

“Could you imagine if Trump had stood in the door of that plane and Melania’s hand came out and pushed his face that hard? It would have been unthinkable.

“This needs to be taken seriously, but I would imagine that he’ll go to every length to cover it up, but it’s not a very good indication of what goes on behind the scenes,” she said.

There is a 25-year age gap between Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte.

Emmanuel Macron was just 15 when he began a relationship with the then-married mother-of-three Brigitte, who was 40 at the time, and teaching drama at La Providence high school in Amiens, northern France.

Supporters of Captain Ibrahim Traoré organize a solidarity walk to honor him on African Union Day

As part of the African Union Day celebrations, some Ghanaians who have identified as themselves as supporters of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso’s leader, staged a solidarity walk.

The March titled Walk with Traoré took place in Accra, the capital of Ghana. The walk was a move to warn Western immigrants to move out of the continent.

During the march, participants issued a pointed warning to African leaders they accuse of aligning with former colonial powers, urging them to prioritize African interests.

The supporters also sent a message to the international community, declaring that any threat or harm to Captain Traoré would trigger a fierce response, stating, “The world will have to face us.”

Over a modest morning cup of tea—no sugar—I tuned into Diamond TV’s breakfast show, where Economic Analyst Yusuf Dodia was sparring gracefully with host Andrew Mwansa.

The topic? How to rescue our long-suffering Zambian Kwacha from its weakness against global currencies.

Dodia, respected for his blunt economic diagnoses, laid out a rather intriguing proposal: The Export Proceeds Tracking Framework (EPTF). Not exactly dinner-table conversation, but stick with me—it might just be the economic CPR we’ve been waiting for.

Launched quietly on 1 January 2024 by the Bank of Zambia (BoZ) in collaboration with the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), the EPTF mandates that all export earnings be deposited into Zambian bank accounts within 90 days of export.

Its objective? To “boost foreign exchange inflows, improve the balance of payments, and reduce illicit financial flows. Basically, collect our dollars before they mysteriously vanish overseas.”

According to Dodia, full implementation could rake in between $20 million to $30 million a day.

That’s up to $900 million a month—real money that could cushion our reserves, reinforce the Kwacha, and ultimately bring down the high cost of imported goods.

As of May 2025, the Kwacha is trading at K27.5 to the USD, down from around K18 in 2021, a slide that’s sent the cost of everything—fuel, fertilizer, phones—through the roof.

For a country where over 60% of the population lives below the poverty line, and inflation remains stubborn at over 13%, stabilising the currency isn’t just good economics—it’s an act of mercy and tenacity on the part of government.

Where’s the Don on this?

Dodia boldly called the EPTF “a panacea” for Kwacha instability, noting it could yield positive results within a year. I couldn’t help but wonder: if this is such a silver bullet, why is it gathering dust in policy limbo?

Maybe it’s inertia, maybe it’s red tape—or maybe we’ve just grown used to borrowing and hoping. But as a humble communicator and international relations analyst (not an economist), I say: let’s give the EPTF a proper shot. The Kwacha deserves a fighting chance.
After all, even tea tastes better when it’s affordable.
