JOSEPH CHILAMBWE URGES UPND TO AVOID IMPOSING CANDIDATES AHEAD OF 2026 POLLS

JOSEPH CHILAMBWE URGES UPND TO AVOID IMPOSING CANDIDATES AHEAD OF 2026 POLLS

FORMER Deputy Information and Broadcasting Minister in the late President Levy Mwanawasa administration Joseph Chilambwe has warned that the UPND has to be very careful as the country goes towards the August 13,2026 general elections or they risk being kicked out of power by Zambians.

Mr Chilambwe has also advised the party leadership to select candidates for this year’s general elections on merit.

He said the party should not impose candidates on electorates saying that people at grass root level should be given chance to choose candidates of their choice.

He further said that the UPND should learn from the out come of the Chawama bye elections where they lost to opposition FDD.

Mr Chilambwe has meanwhile called for party elections within UPND before the general polls in August this year.

FIFA has been urged to remove the United States as host of the 2026 World Cup, with a leading British broadcaster suggesting the tournament be relocated to the UK.

Jeff Stelling, the former Sky Sports presenter, made the call on social media amid growing controversy over US President Donald Trump’s expanding travel ban and political tensions surrounding the competition.

Concerns over access and safety have intensified, with reports that thousands of fans recently cancelled tickets. The Senegalese federation has also raised fairness issues, while UK politicians from four parties have signed a motion urging international bodies to consider expelling the US from major sporting events.

The World Cup is scheduled to be co-hosted by the US, Canada and Mexico in June and July. Relocating the tournament so close to kick-off would be unprecedented, though Mexico stepped in at short notice in 1986 after Colombia withdrew.

‘I’d rather lose than walk out’ — Mane speaks on ending Senegal’s protest in AFCON final

Sadio Mane said he would “rather lose” than walk out of a football match.

The 33-year-old was speaking on his decision to order his teammates back on the pitch after an initial walkout during the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) against Morocco.

The AFCON final took a dramatic turn late into the game after the referee awarded a 94th-minute penalty to Morocco.

While defending a corner kick, El Hadji Malick Diouf appeared to have dragged Brahim Diaz to the ground in the Senegalese area. The incident seemed to have escaped the match officials until the video assistant referee got involved.

Nearly 4 in 10 Young Men in South Africa Admit to Emotionally Abusing Their Partners, Exposing Deep Roots of Violence, Trauma and Failing Social Systems

Alarming Crisis in Relationships: Nearly 4 in 10 Young Men in South Africa Admit to Emotionally Abusing Their Partners, Exposing Deep Roots of Violence, Trauma and Failing Social Systems

A recent national study by the Human Sciences Research Council has revealed a deeply troubling reality in South Africa: a large number of young men are admitting that they have emotionally abused their intimate partners.

The findings show that close to 40% of men between the ages of 25 and 34 confessed to committing acts such as insults, threats, humiliation, controlling behaviour, and psychological manipulation against women they are in relationships with. This points to a silent but widespread form of gender-based violence that often goes unnoticed because it leaves no physical scars, yet causes deep emotional and mental damage.

Experts link this crisis to several interconnected factors:

• Growing up in violent or broken homes where abuse is normalised
• Alcohol and drug abuse that lowers self-control and increases aggression
• Unemployment and poverty, which create frustration, stress and feelings of powerlessness
• Harmful ideas about masculinity that teach men to dominate and control women
• Lack of emotional education, where boys are not taught how to handle anger, rejection or conflict in healthy ways
• Social media and peer pressure that glorify toxic relationships and disrespect toward women

Emotional abuse often comes before physical violence. It includes constant criticism, isolation from friends and family, jealousy, monitoring phones, financial control, and threats. Over time, it destroys self-esteem, causes depression and anxiety, and traps many women in cycles of fear and dependency.

What needs to be done:

• Start teaching boys from a young age about respect, consent, and emotional intelligence
• Strengthen parenting programmes that address violence and toxic gender roles at home
• Expand counselling and mental health services for men dealing with anger, trauma and stress

• Enforce stricter consequences for all forms of abuse, not only physical violence
• Empower women economically so they are not forced to stay in abusive relationships
• Intensify community awareness campaigns that challenge the culture of silence and victim-blaming

This issue is not only about relationships; it is about the future of families, children and society. When emotional abuse is allowed to continue, it becomes a breeding ground for more serious violence. Ending gender-based violence means changing mindsets, healing trauma, holding abusers accountable, and building a culture where respect is non-negotiable.

POLICE RAID MAKEBI ZULU’S MALAMBO RESIDENCE

POLICE RAID MAKEBI ZULU’S MALAMBO RESIDENCE

Police officers in Mambwe District, Eastern Province, have this morning raided the residence of Patriotic Front (PF) presidential hopeful Makebi Zulu in Malambo area.

Zulu, who is currently on a visit to his home village in Malambo, was reportedly caught by surprise after discovering a heavy police presence surrounding his house in the early hours of today.

Eyewitnesses say several police officers cordoned off the area as the operation unfolded, drawing the attention of local residents.

Meanwhile, hundreds of Malambo residents and supporters have since gathered at the scene, expressing concern and demanding clarity over the operation.

The situation remains tense as authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the purpose of the raid.

More details to follow as the story develops.

Too many small men being lied to that they can win August elections – Political analyst

Too many small men being lied to that they can win August elections – Political analyst

POLITICAL analyst Muhabi Lungu has warned that Zambia’s opposition landscape is being sabotaged by what he described as “small men of envy and ambition” who are being misled by their own supporters into believing they can single-handedly win the August general elections.

Speaking on Diamond TV last night, Lungu said Zambia’s biggest political problem is not the ruling party but opposition leaders who are convinced they can win elections alone despite lacking national appeal.

Lungu said many individuals with small or big political organisations are constantly being assured by their followers that they do not need alliances, wrongly believing that the people alone constitute an opposition force.

“The thing that creates problems in this country is that we have too many small men who are being lied to naturally. They are being told ‘you alone can win’. Then they say ‘we don’t need to come together’ because the opposition is not the opposition, it’s the people,” Lungu said.

He dismissed that thinking as a fallacy, arguing that voters do not wake up on their own to vote for a non-existent candidate.

“People must be led. People don’t go out by themselves to go vote for a fictitious person on the ballot. There has to be a person on the ballot that a critical mass of Zambians are prepared to queue for from five or six in the morning,” he said.

The analyst also took a swipe at what he termed political immaturity among some leaders who cry foul when internal elections do not go their way.

He said some politicians pretend to support colleagues during internal processes, only to reject outcomes once they lose, accusing others of cheating and refusing to cooperate with party administrative processes.

“Immediately you don’t win, you start saying the elections were not good. You refuse to help change office bearers at the Registrar of Societies because it’s not you who won. That shows the level of immaturity we have,” Lungu said.

He warned that Zambia cannot afford such behaviour, stressing that politics should not revolve around individual egos and personal ambition.

“This thing cannot be about Muhabi Lungu, or this one, or that one. It cannot be about names. We, as Zambian leadership, should stop being manipulators and being too preoccupied with our own self-importance and start looking at the bigger picture,” he said.

WE’LL BLOCK ANYONE BRINGING PF CONFUSION IN TONSE ALLIANCE– KBF

WE’LL BLOCK ANYONE BRINGING PF CONFUSION IN TONSE – KBF

KELVIN Fube Bwalya says the Tonse Alliance will scrutinise anyone seeking to join from the ECL political movement, warning that those bringing back confusion from PF factions will be blocked.

Bwalya, who was recently appointed Alliance vice-chairperson stresses that Zambians are tired of the confusion in the PF.

Speaking when he appeared on Diamond TV’s “This Day programme”, Thursday, Bwalya said the Tonse Alliance was the direction that Zambians were looking for in the opposition.

“PF is no longer in Tonse, so if it’s the ECL political movement you are talking about, we will scrutinise who comes to Tonse. We don’t want what we got rid of to visit us through the back door. So, even those people, the seven you are talking about and the members of the congress who are going to vote, we in Tonse will have to scrutinise them. If we don’t accept them, we won’t accept them because if we see the same ugly confusion that we got rid of coming through the back door, we will stop it.

What we don’t want is confusion, the Zambians are tired of confusion, this is seven [or] eight months after the death of our former republican president, we still haven’t buried him. We’ve been procrastinating and fighting over nothing, trying to run an agenda of the so-called PF when there are factions within PF; Given Lubinda claims to be the acting president, Miles Sampa is going to court fighting for this and that, Chabinga is pulling left, right and centre,” he said.

“We can’t be waiting, Zambians are looking for direction and we are giving that direction. So, whoever wants to come under the umbrella of the ‘ECL political movement’ to come into Tonse has to come with clean hands, otherwise we’ll block them, we’ll tell them go back to your PF and fight. Clean yourselves, sanitise yourselves then come and join us, we don’t want that to revisit us using the back door.

So, even before we get to the delegates, that has to be a criteria movement, they have to meet certain criteria. We are not just going to allow them, it’s not every Tom, Dick and Harry, Susan, Mary and Jane to come and join us, no! We want clean politics and we want people of like-minds to join us. Those that we feel and think are bringing confusion, we are sorry, we won’t allow them even if they are candidates, we won’t allow them”.

Bwalya stressed that there is only one Tonse Alliance which was being led by Danny Pule.

He added that since PF was no longer part of alliance, anyone seeking to join under the ECL political movement would be thoroughly scrutinised.

https://youtu.be/p8koXJSwF6E?si=aldy8e-0Db2jIxUP

“There is only one Tonse [Alliance] and that Tonse is led by Professor Chief Apostle Danny Pule. I’m sorry to say that the faction you referred to being led by Given Lubinda, that’s just the central committee of the PF and we have removed them from Tonse so that we sanitise ourselves as Tonse. We have asked our brothers, ‘go and sort out your problems with [Robert] Chabinga, when you are ready to join us, you’ll find us but we cannot move at your pace.

We cannot move with your confusion, we are sorry’. The Zambians are waiting for leadership. Given Lubinda and his central committee are just individuals, remove them from the structures [because] the structures are human beings. People move in politics according to interests, and when they realise that this set of leaders are wasting our time, they move according to their interests. So, [if] we are able to go into the structures of PF and show them direction and leadership, they’ll move,” he said.

“Abantu te garden, nalibyala abantu nkaya babula niba PF, takwaba PF (people are not a garden where you plant them and decide I will harvest them because they are PF, there is no PF). A person is the person who was in UNIP, who became MMD, who became PF, some of them moved into UPND.

Frankly, not the majority, it’s the same Zambians we are dealing with. So, it’s about interests. Politics is about who touches or scratches your interest. And we are saying to the Zambians [that] Tonse is here to give you leadership. We’ve got Tonse here and we are giving you leadership and that’s what we are promising”.

Meanwhile, when asked whether a regime change is possible given the disunity in the opposition, Bwalya said the Tonse Alliance had restored unity by removing the “confusion,” in apparent reference to the PF.

“I don’t know which opposition you are talking [about] or which opposition you are reading into, but under the Alliance, I belong to Tonse, we have cleaned [the] house. The confusion which was there has been pushed out, the unity is coming back, sanity is coming back [and] soon we are going to have elections within Tonse. Soon we are going to give the Zambian people a leader they can look up to and I’m standing, so for me, yes.

Look at it this way, they can have a lot of pacts and I don’t want to mention names here, they can have a lot of alliances but when you announce a pact, you announce an alliance and there is no traction on the ground, it means people don’t believe you, they are waiting for something. I believe the Zambians are waiting for what Tonse is going to give them,” Bwalya added.

Asked if he was referring to the Dr Fred M’membe led People’s Pact when he explained that some alliances had no traction on the ground, Bwalya refused to comment.

“I make no comment, I’m only saying when you don’t make traction, it means you are not hitting the ground running. It means the Zambians don’t believe in your leadership, they are waiting for something else,” said Bwalya.

EDITORIAL | Sampa’s Apology Is Welcome, but Accountability Must Follow in an Election Year

🇿🇲 EDITORIAL | Sampa’s Apology Is Welcome, but Accountability Must Follow in an Election Year

Miles Sampa apologised yesterday to the Electoral Commission of Zambia over his claim that a fake polling station had been set up along Lilayi Road during the Chawama parliamentary by-election. He admitted that the allegation was based on incorrect information and accepted responsibility after ECZ officials and police clarified that the station was duly authorised. This apology matters. In an election climate already thick with suspicion, correcting the record is the bare minimum required of public leaders.

Context is important. The Chawama by-election was highly charged. Opposition figures had been warning of rigging long before a single ballot was cast. Social media became the main battlefield, where claims travelled faster than verification. In that environment, a sitting Member of Parliament publicly raising an unverified allegation was not a small slip. It fed fear, mistrust and confusion at a moment when electoral calm was essential.

Sampa’s explanation shows how quickly misinformation can escalate. A report from residents, a hurried verification through party channels, then a public statement. Only later did direct engagement with ECZ officials establish the facts. By then, the damage had already been done. Screenshots travel. Retractions rarely do.

The apology should therefore be welcomed, but it should not end the conversation. Accountability is not punishment for its own sake. It is a corrective tool. When influential political actors face no consequences for spreading falsehoods, others learn that there is little cost to recklessness. In an election year, that lesson is dangerous.

Social media has flattened authority. Everyone can publish. Everyone can accuse. This reality makes discipline more necessary, not less. Political leaders are not ordinary users. Their words carry weight. When they speak carelessly, institutions are weakened and voters lose confidence in the system meant to protect their voice.

This is not about silencing opposition or shielding the ECZ from scrutiny. Electoral bodies must always be questioned. But questioning must be evidence-based, proportionate and responsible. Raising alarm first and verifying later reverses the democratic order.

Zambia has just witnessed a peaceful by-election where the ruling party lost and accepted defeat. This outcome alone dismantles many rigging narratives. It also sets a higher standard for political conduct going forward. Leaders must match that standard.

Sampa did the right thing by apologising. The harder task now is for political parties to enforce internal discipline and for institutions to insist on responsibility. Without that, apologies will become routine, misinformation will remain profitable, and the next election will be noisier, angrier and less trusted.

Democracy does not collapse in one dramatic moment. It erodes through repeated small acts of irresponsibility that go unchecked. This apology should be a pause point. The country must decide whether truth still carries consequences.

I AM SORRY TO APOLOGIZE YET AGAIN BUT PLEASE UNDERSTAND MY SITUATION- Chilufya Tayali

EEP President Chilufya Tayali

I AM SORRY TO APOLOGIZE YET AGAIN BUT PLEASE UNDERSTAND MY SITUATION

The six-hour time difference between Malaysia and Zambia has quietly become one of my biggest struggles in my political activities.

What appears to be an “evening program” back home often means waking up around 01:00hrs for me. Sometimes I don’t even sleep at all. Other times, my body simply refuses to cooperate, especially after a long, demanding day.

Today being Sunday, I spent time outside with my family. Running around with Kiya was a joy, but it also left me completely drained.

I thought resting for just two hours would help me reboot my mind and strength so I could meaningfully engage with you later. Unfortunately, exhaustion won. My body shut down, and I only woke up now.

I won’t lie, it hurts a little. I wish I could have an attentive ear, or even quiet understanding, from those who benefit from my public engagement. Sometimes it feels like everyone is busy, and my situation is easy to overlook.

More than anything, I wish I could be supported better so that, I am motivated. There are moments when it feels like being in a marriage that looks secure from the outside, yet inside there is constant struggle.

You are “associated with abundance,” called names (sellout, Mushanina bwali, etc) yet you remain broke, tired, and carrying the weight alone.

Like in some marriage, you stay, not because it’s easy, but because you must, for your family, responsibility, and other issues which only remain in your heart.😟

Still, I choose restraint, not to wash dirty linen in public. I hold on to the hope that one day, God will look upon our efforts with favor and open doors we cannot open for ourselves.

And for the record, I don’t regret turning to President Hichilema and help in certain issues which required my honest input.

For now, I will not promise when I will go live. I would rather be honest than disappoint you again.

May God bless you all as we watch the AFCON finals.

Paternity Tests Reveal Growing Family Disputes

⬆️ BRIEFING | Paternity Tests Reveal Growing Family Disputes

Zambia’s forensic authorities recorded a notable rise in contested parentage cases in 2025, with 48 out of 123 paternity tests returning negative results, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security. The remaining 75 tests confirmed biological paternity, highlighting the expanding role of DNA science in resolving domestic and civil disputes.

Principal Public Relations Officer Mwala Kalaluka said the figures, generated by the National Forensic Science and Biometrics Department’s DNA Laboratory, show how genetic testing is increasingly sought to establish truth in family matters, inheritance claims and humanitarian cases.

Beyond paternity, the laboratory handled 450 cases in total last year. Of these, 303 were criminal, with sexual offences accounting for 267 cases or 88 percent, underscoring the continued reliance on DNA analysis in addressing sexual and gender based violence. Non sexual offences made up the remaining 12 percent.

Officials say the data reflects both rising public awareness of forensic testing and persistent social challenges around trust, accountability and protection of vulnerable groups.

The Ministry maintains that DNA evidence remains central to delivering justice and closure where disputes or crimes arise.

If there’s a true hero tonight, it’s Sadio Mane- Jurgen Klopp

By Jurgen Klopp

If there’s a true hero tonight, it’s Sadio Mane. I absolutely love that mentality—a mentality that strives to win under any circumstances, with no compromise, no surrender until the final whistle. That’s what football is all about. Tonight, Senegal should erect a huge statue in their capital, Dakar.

It’s the least they can do to honor this great player. Without Sadio Mane’s mentality tonight, Senegal wouldn’t have won the title.

He’s a world-class player who trained under great coaches, absorbing incredibly high-level football concepts. That’s why Sadio Mane urged his Senegalese teammates to get back on the pitch.

I’ve seen many scenarios like that. After missing a penalty at such a crucial moment, when Morocco was on the verge of winning the title, it’s natural for the opponent to be instilled with a huge sense of determination to win.

That’s exactly what we saw from the Senegalese players in extra time, because the other side was bound to collapse.

Imagine, he acted like that, and he’s not even the captain or the second captain, yet he commands everyone’s respect.

That’s the style and wisdom of legends. Congratulations to Senegal, especially to the great player Sadio Mane. 🇸🇳👏

I asked Claude Le Roy for his opinion, and he told me we had to play. El Hadji Diouf told me the same thing- Sadio Mané

Reports have it that #Claude_Le_Roy is the one who advised SADIO MANE to go call his teammates to continue the final.. Here’s the discussion they had

“Sadio Mané said: the VAR referee didn’t call the referee (center referee) on the disallowed Senegal goal. This is the injustice the Senegalese staff are denouncing. What do you advise us to do?

– Claude Le Roy: In football, there are often injustices. Tell your teammates to come back onto the pitch and resume the match; that’s the best solution.

No sooner said than done, Mané ran to the locker room and called his teammates back, saying, ‘Come on, let’s play like men.’

That’s also what it means to know how to listen to someone you respect and value. And we know what happened next.

Sadio Mané  “First of all, I would like to thank the Senegalese people. It wasn’t easy, but we did it together. I’m so happy.
As I’ve already said, for me, with the Africa Cup of Nations, it’s over.

Regarding the penalty, I don’t think it was a penalty. But if the referee decided it was a penalty, there’s no problem.

Everyone wanted to leave. I asked Claude Le Roy for his opinion, and he told me we had to play. El Hadji Diouf told me the same thing.

I told the guys: whatever happens, we have to take responsibility. We’re going to play.”

Trump admits in a jaw-dropping letter to Norway’s Prime Minister that he’s threatening to seize Greenland because he’s upset that he didn’t win the Nobel Peace Prize

BREAKING: Trump admits in a jaw-dropping letter to Norway’s Prime Minister that he’s threatening to seize Greenland because he’s upset that he didn’t win the Nobel Peace Prize.

We have entered full-blown mad king territory…

“Dear Jonas: Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America,” Trump began in his letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

The letter was reported by Nick Schifrin of PBS News, who revealed that it was forwarded to “multiple European ambassadors in Washington.”

“Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a ‘right of ownership’ anyway?” Trump continued. “There are no written documents, it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also.”

“I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland. Thank you! President DJT” he concluded.

Where do we even begin with this insanity? To point out the least important part first, the government of Norway has no say in who receives the Nobel Peace Prize. The award is decided by the Nobel Institute, which is located in Norway but is an independent entity.

Moving on to the meat of the matter, Trump admitting that he’s less interested in peace now because he was denied the peace prize should be grounds for impeachment or even removal under the 25th Amendment. These are the words of a lunatic dictator. He is clearly profoundly mentally unwell and is now threatening to invade a NATO nation because of a petty, personal perception that he was slighted.

To point out the painfully obvious, none of this in the best interests of the United States. We can already station as many troops and military assets in Greenland as we like under NATO agreements. Trump is alienating us from our closest allies and starting another destructive trade war because he’s angry that Barack Obama, a Black man, received an award that he’s been denied.

It’s no longer enough that we simply remove Trump from office. He needs to be prosecuted and locked up for the rest of his life as punishment for this never-ending crime spree.

Senegal didn’t deserve to win – Moroccan coach Walid Regragui

Moroccan coach Walid Regragui:
“We deserved our win.

️“We deserved to win this match. But when people want to destroy you, they look for excuses  just like the saying: when you want to kill your dog, you accuse it of rabies.

The referee’s decisions went against us, and that influenced the outcome. Despite everything, some are trying to paint Morocco as a team that benefits from referees, which is completely false. Today, it was us who suffered.

As for Senegal, they didn’t deserve to win this match Football should be decided by what happens on the pitch. We win our games through performance, discipline, and hard work not because of favors.”

THIS IS WHAT YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT THE ARGENTINIAN REVOLUTIONARY, CHE GUEVARA

THIS IS WHAT YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT THE ARGENTINIAN REVOLUTIONARY, CHE GUEVARA

When Che Guevara learned of Patrice Lumumba’s assassination and the return of neocolonialism in Congo, he did not remain in Cuba. He crossed continents, arriving in the DRC with a group of fighters. His mission was bold: to support the local rebellion and carry forward Lumumba’s struggle—this time with weapons in hand.

The greatest lesson from Che’s life and dedication is that powerful ideas know no borders. They are not confined by race, geography, or ethnicity. Wherever people embrace them, they become universal. Today, Che Guevara is as much an idea in Africa as he is in Cuba, Venezuela, or anywhere imperialism must be challenged.

Yet, upon his arrival in Congo, Che encountered a harsh reality: many were unprepared for revolution. Instead of discipline and strategy, there was reliance on fetishism, indulgence in alcohol and women, incantations, and the pursuit of quick gratification through pillaging and looting—betraying the very people they sought to liberate.

This remains a critical challenge for today’s struggle. Without discipline, vision, and unwavering dedication like Che Guevara’s, the Gen Z revolution will falter. To unite and liberate the continent, it must be built not on distractions, but on sacrifice, strategy, and commitment.

Dangote signs $350 million deal with Indian firm EIL to expand Lagos refinery

Dangote Group has signed a $350 million deal with Indian engineering firm EIL to expand its flagship refinery and petrochemicals complex in Lagos, a move set to boost Nigeria’s industrial capacity and reduce Africa’s reliance on imported refined fuels.

The project aims to increase the refinery’s capacity from 650,000 to 1.4 million barrels per day, placing it among the largest single-location refinery complexes globally.

Dangote Group has entered into a $350 million partnership with Indian engineering firm Engineers India Ltd (EIL) to expand its refinery and petrochemical capabilities in Lagos.

The Dangote Refinery, located in the Lekki Free Zone, signifies a milestone for Nigeria as it transitions from fuel import reliance to becoming a producer and exporter of refined products.

Additional petrochemical expansion includes significantly boosting polypropylene production to 2.4 million tonnes per annum.

Europe warn of $100+ billion retaliation for Trump’s new tariffs

0

America’s allies in Europe warned on Sunday that they are prepared to move forward with a more than $100 billion plan to retaliate for President Donald Trump’s latest round of tariffs, according to a new report.

On Saturday, Trump imposed new 10% tariffs on all goods from six EU countries, the U.K., and Norway, in an attempt to up the ante in his bid to acquire Greenland from the Kingdom of Denmark. On Sunday, diplomats from the bloc’s 27 governments met to affirm their options to “fight back” against the tariffs, Politico’s European bureau reported.

“It’s clear that a line has been drawn and enough is enough,” said one diplomat with knowledge of Sunday’s talks. “But at the moment we are discussing options — if Trump’s tariffs are imposed, then we will be discussing not what options there are but which options to use.”

ALSO READ: These signs show Trump’s maddest threat yet might be blocked … amid the blizzard of crazy

One option the diplomats discussed is a roughly $107 billion tariff package the bloc prepared when Trump announced his first round of tariffs in 2025. Those tariffs were put on hold when the EU signed a trade deal with the U.S. in July 2025.

Another option under discussion is using the bloc’s “trade bazooka” to hold the U.S. accountable for trying to politically blackmail the EU, according to the report.

“This is a stronger measure and would come up against some concern from more cautious members of the bloc,” the report reads. “Governments did not ask the European Commission to move forward with the deployment of the tool at this stage, according to three diplomats.”

Victor Osimhen expresses his disappointment after being betrayed by someone he helped.

“I have a childhood friend I grew up with. We shared everything together back then. One day, he reached out to me asking for help. I didn’t hesitate.

He told me he wanted to start a business but didn’t have the money. I asked how much he needed, and I gave him €5,000. To me, that money was enough to help him build a better business in Nigeria.
But do you know what he later told me? He said, ‘Victor, I heard from the news that you earn €1 million per month. I expected more than this.

That really broke me.

I did everything I could to recover the money, but there was no way. Growing up, nobody ever told me, ‘Victor Osimhen, take 50 naira and buy water.’ I struggled on my own.

Yet today, I gave someone close to me about ₦7 million, and he completely ignored the effort and sacrifice—just because he heard on the news that I earn €1 million per month.”

“Please, Elon, you gotta help me, baby!” GOP pundit begs Elon Musk to unban him after cheering Iran bombing

Conservative radio host Dennis Kneale took to Newsmax Sunday to beg Elon Musk to reverse his permanent ban on the social media platform X – which Musk owns – after having joked on the platform about bombing Iran.

“My X account has been permanently suspended! I’m not allowed to post anything, repost anything, like anything, and they say never again can I open a new account on X, from a guy who wrote a pro-Elon book?” Kneale complained, referencing his 2025 book The Leadership Genius of Elon Musk.

“From a guy who’s been a journalist for 30-plus years? What are they thinking? And here’s the worst thing of it guys: I have no idea what I did wrong! They don’t even specify!”

Upon further reflection, Kneale said he believed it may have been a social media post he published on Thursday that “might have got me in trouble,” a post published as President Donald Trump was weighing whether to authorize strikes on Iran amid protests in the Middle East nation.

“Bob-bob-bob, bob-bob Iran,” read Kneale’s Thursday social media post, referencing the 1965 Beach Boys song “Barbara Ann.” “Bob-Irannnnnn. Leaving out the m to slip past algo censors.”

A Newsmax anchor defended Kneale’s joke about bombing Iran, proclaiming that “everybody knows that song,” and that Kneale’s joke was “just cute.”

Kneale, apparently still hopeful his permanent ban could be reversed, then resorted to groveling to Musk.

“Please, Elon, you gotta help me, baby!” Kneale said. “You are a free-speech champion, and your platform must be doing the same thing to thousands of accounts!”

‘Leave Greenland alone!’ Protest interrupts US National Anthem at NBA game in London

President Donald Trump’s hardball efforts to acquire Greenland are not only unpopular in the U.S., but also appear to be unpopular abroad.

Trump has repeatedly stated he intends to acquire Greenland from Denmark, either by force or through negotiation. The former was described by European allies of the U.S. as a potential “end of NATO” moment. Only recently has Trump appeared receptive to the idea of purchasing the island nation from the Kingdom of Denmark, a move that could potentially cost the U.S. trillions of dollars.

A protester made their feelings about Trump’s moves known on Sunday during the NBA game between the Memphis Grizzlies and Orlando Magic in London’s O2 Arena.

“Leave Greenland alone!” the protester yelled as actress Vanessa Williams sang the Star-Spangled Banner.

The crowd reacted with a mix of boos and cheers.

A recent survey found that less than 20% of Americans support Trump’s efforts to acquire Greenland. The president has said doing so would serve America’s national interests because Russia and China both operate in the region.

Stanley Nwabali Deserves a Bigger Club

Stanley Nwabali Deserves a Bigger Club

Manchester United have struggled for consistency in the goalkeeping department, and Stanley Nwabali’s performances at the AFCON show that he could be a solid solution.

Nwabali’s displays throughout the tournament have proven his quality, confidence, and composure under pressure. His shot-stopping ability and command of the box clearly indicate that he is ready for a higher level of competition.

Given the opportunity to play in the English Premier League, there is no doubt that Nwabali would rise to the challenge.

A club like Manchester United, in need of a reliable and commanding goalkeeper, could benefit greatly from a player of his caliber.

‘A sad day’: Analyst aghast as Trump pushes US allies to the brink

President Donald Trump’s efforts to acquire Greenland left one analyst aghast on Sunday.

Over the last several weeks, Trump has intensified his push to acquire Greenland from the Kingdom of Denmark. Those efforts have included threatening to invade Greenland and imposing 10% tariffs on all goods imported from several European countries. Trump has claimed that acquiring the island nation is in America’s national interests, although experts have said that He can accomplish many of the things he hopes to achieve through the acquisition, such as increasing America’s military presence.

On Sunday, a coalition of European nations said they are ready to impose a penalty of more than $100 billion on Trump over the new tariffs. They also issued a joint statement saying they “stand firmly behind” Greenland’s territorial integrity.

Progressive YouTuber Brian Tyler Cohen was aghast in a new video about Trump’s efforts to acquire Greenland, which seem to be pushing America’s allies to the brink.

“The reality is that the U.S. is being led by an absolute deranged tyrant,” Cohen said. “But it’s not only his fault. It’s also these spineless, groveling sycophants in the Republican party who could serve as a check on his power if only they could find their own balls. But they won’t because they’re more concerned with not being the subject of a mean tweet by their god king.”

“It’s a sad day in the world where I have to sit here and root for other countries to uphold the values of my own country because the current administration and their hangers-on in Congress and the GOP are setting fire to our ideals, our reputation, and our laws on a daily basis,” Cohen added.

GUINEA’S JUNTA LEADER MAMADI DOUMBOUYA SWORN IN AS PRESIDENT

GUINEA’S JUNTA LEADER MAMADI DOUMBOUYA SWORN IN AS PRESIDENT

GUINEA’S junta leader General Mamadi Doumbouya was sworn in as president on Saturday, after an overwhelming win in December’s presidential election.

Doumbouya took the oath of office at a brand-new 55,000-seat stadium on the outskirts of the capital Conakry. African leaders and representatives of the African Union and ECOWAS commission attended the ceremony.

Doumbouya took power in a 2021 military coup and initially promised not to present himself as a candidate. But he oversaw the introduction of a constitution that revoked a ban on military leaders running for office and extended the presidential term from five years to seven.

Critics say Doumbouya has clamped down on political opponents and dissent, leaving him with no major opposition among the eight other candidates in the race. Official results gave him 86.7 percent of the vote. His victory, which had been predicted by analysts, was confirmed by the Supreme Court in the capital Conakry.

Yero Baldé, the runner-up who won 6.59 percent of the vote, had filed a petition accusing the electoral body of manipulating the results in Doumbouya’s favor. But authorities said he withdrew the petition a day before the Supreme Court verdict.

André Onana Shocks His Critics Once Again

André Onana delivered a stunning performance today as he helped Trabzonspor secure a crucial 2–1 victory, pushing the club up to third place in the league standings.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper was at his very best, making key saves that proved decisive in the win. Onana’s current form is causing panic among his critics, as he continues to turn negativity into motivation and use it to build an even stronger goalkeeping career.

It was truly a wonderful and commanding display from the shot-stopper—one that once again reminds everyone of his quality and resilience between the posts.

Senegal Head Coach’s Decision Was Unfair

Senegal Head Coach’s Decision Was Unfair

The 2025 AFCON in Morocco has been widely criticized as one of the worst editions in recent history.

However, the decision by the Senegalese head coach to ask his players to leave the stadium during such a crucial final was unfair and damaging to the image of AFCON.

https://youtu.be/J0tg_difqZs?si=DIyvHZ42uEf30MIY

AFCON remains one of the best football competitions among the top tournaments in the world. Unfortunately, what happened in this final showed a lack of proper management and professionalism, which made the competition appear disorganized and naïve.

This moment should serve as a lesson for African football authorities to protect the integrity and reputation of the tournament.

CHINA PLANS TO TAKE ON STARLINK BY LAUNCHING 200,000 SATELLITES

Beijing has filed paperwork to launch a massive satellite constellation to rival Starlink.

The state-backed China Satellite Network Group submitted its bid to the UN’s ITU, aiming to lock down radio frequencies for a global broadband network.

The goal? A “secure, controllable, and efficient” satellite system – one that doesn’t rely on the West.

Nothing says “global internet freedom” like 200,000 government-controlled satellites and a firewall in space.

EXPLAINING PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION (PR)  SYSTEM USING CHAWAMA BY-ELECTION AS AN EXAMPLE

EXPLAINING PR SYSTEM USING CHAWAMA BY-ELECTION AS AN EXAMPLE

By Isaac Mwanza

Let’s break down the Proportional Representation (PR) system using Zambia’s Chawama by-election as an example .

Zambia’s will use the PR system for the National Assembly of Zambia  (40 seats) and Councils. The Quota System is likely to be used, but we shall have to wait for the Electoral System Act to confirm.

So, what’s a quota system? 樂 Simply put, it’s a way to allocate seats based on a predetermined threshold (quota). In elections, it is often used in Proportional Representation systems.

In elections, parties earn seats by meeting or exceeding this quota, calculated by dividing total valid votes by total seats.

Let’s assume Chawama Constituency was the whole country, and the candidates were presidential candidates from different parties. How would Electoral Commission of Zambia  allocate the 40 parliamentary seats under the PR system?

Total valid votes: 17,036
Total seats: 40
Quota: 17,036 ÷ 40 = 425.9 votes per seat

Now, let’s calculate seats for each party:

A: 8085 votes / 425.9 = 18.98 ≈ 19 seats
B: 6542 votes / 425.9 = 15.36 ≈ 15 seats
C: 1534 votes / 425.9 = 3.6 ≈ 4 seats
D: 466 votes / 425.9 = 1.09 ≈ 1 seat
E: 428 votes / 425.9 = 1 seat
F: 239 votes / 425.9 = 0.56 ≈ 0 seats
G: 100 votes / 425.9 = 0.23 ≈ 0 seats
H: 93 votes / 425.9 = 0.21 ≈ 0 seats
I: 0 seats (not enough votes)

Seat allocation:
– FDD: 8,085 votes ≈ 19 seats
– UPND: 6,542 votes ≈ 15 seats
– CF: 1,534 votes ≈ 4 seats
– IND. 1: 466 votes ≈ 1 seat
– IND. 2: 428 votes ≈ 1 seat
– Others: 0 seats

Total seats allocated: 40 seats .

This is where alliances matter, and stakeholders should get involved in shaping Zambia’s Electoral Systems and Process Act. The devil is in the detail!

So let’s engage with the Ministry of Justice Zambia – MOJ and ECZ to understand the direction we are heading on what type of Proportional Representation System will be employed.

MILES SAMPA TAKES A SWIPE AT DR LAWRENCE MWELWA

MILES SAMPA TAKES A SWIPE AT DR LAWRENCE MWELWA

…he is bitter and floating butterfly who left MMD, went to PF, to Socialist Party and now Tonse…

PF MCC Hazel Kapeta writes…

Shame on Dr Lawrence Mwelwa. This is a fake Bishop who always wanted to stand in Mkushi under PF, but the ECL led structures and leadership, always ignored him and rightly so. They are being vindicated now because he is out to kill the PF and duping himself and others that structures will follow them to some nashala neka tuma parties.

He has a historical bone to chew with the PF for all the adoptions he was not given with the recent one bing in 2022 for the Mkushi Council Chairperson by election. His vision with his small god at a no members church is to ensure the PF dies as revenge for not having been adopted the last 4 times that he applied as MP or Council chairman.

Incidentally ans after ECL MCCs did not adopt for Mkushi by election in 2022, he resign from PF and joined SP. There he was part of the scheme to oust the founder or the party Fred Mmembe. When bursted, he resigned in shame and now even without rejoining PF, he thinks must meddle in its internal afairs.

l dislike keyboard warriors who add no value to the ground work. His sorry soul should have been in Chawama fighting for victory in defence of ECL and not being a jealous coward.

Dr Mwewa is anti Catholic and when heard the word ‘Conclave’ used to get the 13 presidential candidates reduce themselves to 2, he wrote antiCatholic hate article against the process. He duped himself that it meant exactlt same as dine fie the Pope succesion when not. The word was picked only to depict the sence of potential candidates narrowing down themselves. The truth is that he dreams ba Eclesia can leave the church and go to his single digits number of people church.

Well the verdict is out and whether you like it or not, Hon Miles Sampa stands out as a Victor in Chawama as he sacrificed his very life to defend ECL’s legacy and while you hided in home car park your behicles, his 2 vehicles were destroyed in Chawama campaigns because he volunteered them there.

What part did keyboard warriors including hired gun Dr Mwelwa play in Chawama apart from waiting for the party to be defeated so that they type empty words of failed leadership of Hon Given Lubinda?

As things stand, God has embarrassed the naysayers and now they are bitter and finding all sorts of things to poke into those who have delivered the sweet victory ✌️

You will not take away anything from those who delivered the victory, we were not stupid to leave our homes and face the hostile battle field with the upnd thugs.

Ngati chababa maningi, mumwe doom or go and jump into kariba dam and help increase the water levels. That way, you’ll add value to the country otherwise just shut the hell up and allow us to peacefully enjoy our bragging rights!!!!

Yes!!!! We delivered Chawama!!!! 💚💚💚💚💚✅✅✅✅✅
