UPND WILL LOSE 2026 ELECTIONS BECAUSE THEY THINK THEY’VE PERFORMED WELL – MUNDUBILE

UPND WILL LOSE 2026 ELECTIONS BECAUSE THEY THINK THEY’VE PERFORMED WELL – MUNDUBILE

MPOROKOSO PF MP Brian Mundubile says the UPND will lose the 2026 elections because they believe they have performed exceptionally well despite challenges citizens are facing.

Mundubile has argued that the ruling party’s self-assessment of having achieved over 90% of its promises is out of touch with the lived realities of Zambians, who continue to grapple with high costs of living.

He was responding to recent remarks by Itezhi Tezhi MP Twambo Mutinta, who said Zambians had already resolved that the UPND would lead them forever, describing such statements as unrealistic.

“The fact that the UPND feel they have performed over 90% even when the economy is so bad, even when the prices of essential commodities are high”.

Lungu Family notifies the Pretoria High Court to reactivate their notice of appeal Case instead of   engaging Govt

By Chilufya Tayali

THE LUNGU FAMILY DON’T WANT PEACE
=================
But Makebi Zulu na BaEsther bakwe are a problem,  someone has just informed me ati they have notified the High Court to activate their baseless notice of appeal case instead of them  engaging Govt.

This means that, the case which was adjourned indefinitely will be given a date of hearing. Then Black Jesus,  will try to hypnotize the 3 judges with arguments as to why they should allow the family to go to the Supreme Court.

It will be highly courteous if the judges agree, because this case is very weak and they have shown that they are arrogant and intractable.

Govt has been pleading with these people but, they feel they are more powerful than Edgar Lungu himself when he was alive.

SIWILA URGES PF TO EMBRACE UNITY AND FRESH LEADERSHIP

SIWILA URGES PF TO EMBRACE UNITY AND FRESH LEADERSHIP

Lusaka… Thursday August 28, 2025 – Former Patriotic Front (PF) deputy national youth chairman, Benja Siwila, has advised opposition political parties in Zambia–particularly the PF–to prioritize unity, humility, and inclusiveness if they are to win back the confidence of the electorate.

Mr. Siwila stated that Zambian voters tend to support political parties that present themselves as serious, hopeful, and capable of providing direction.

He appealed to the PF to “put its house in order” by accommodating individuals within and outside the party who could be more appealing to the Zambian people.

He further suggested that the PF should consider welcoming back former members who had left to form other political groupings, provided such individuals possessed presidential qualities, were admired by the public, and had the necessary experience to lead.

In his advice, Siwila emphasized the need for rebranding, pointing out that some leaders should pave the way for new leadership in various party structures in order to ensure the smooth running of activities.

He warned against retaining leaders who had outlived their usefulness.

Mr. Siwila also expressed concern that certain figures now presenting themselves as “messiahs” of the PF were previously not on good terms with the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, yet were attempting to capitalize on his death to mislead the party.

He recalled that part of the reason the late President Lungu had started embracing various individuals within and outside the PF was because of his belief in inclusiveness as a path to collective victory

Meanwhile, Siwila stressed that genuine PF members with sincere intentions should not have difficulties working with all those who were once embraced by President Lungu.

POVERTY! THE REAL OPPOSITION TO UPND – SILUMBE

POVERTY! THE REAL OPPOSITION TO UPND – SILUMBE

As Zambia edges closer to the 2026 general elections, Leadership Movement (LM) President Dr. Richard Silumbe has sounded a stark warning to the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND), claiming that the greatest threat to the party’s hold on power is not opposition politicians, but the very poverty that grips the nation.

During a tour of Kanyama Compound, Dr. Silumbe underscored the daily hardships confronting residents, noting that government interventions, including the Community Development Fund (CDF) and Cash for Work programs, have failed to reach those who need them most. “The people of Kanyama and other compounds are the main opposition,” Dr. Silumbe said, pointing to persistent deprivation, unemployment, and lack of opportunities.

The LM leader was sharply critical of the UPND government’s policies, asserting that foreigners are often prioritized over Zambians in the exploitation of the country’s natural resources. He singled out the mining sector, where licenses are frequently awarded to foreign companies rather than empowering local youth. “Zambians want to own and control their minerals, rather than see foreigners reap the benefits while our young people are left behind,” Dr. Silumbe said.

He also decried the government’s approach to land ownership, calling for titled land to be distributed to citizens rather than giving thousands of hectares to foreign investors. Additionally, Dr. Silumbe urged the government to reduce the tax burden on local traders, providing incentives similar to those extended to foreign investors.

The LM’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Solomon Ngoma, outlined an alternative development agenda, including the establishment of state farms under the Zambia National Service (ZNS) to secure national food security. He criticized the government’s practice of exporting surplus stock abroad instead of ensuring food stability for Zambians.

Dr. Silumbe’s comments highlight a growing tension between citizen expectations and government policy, with poverty increasingly seen as a critical political issue. Observers suggest that how the UPND addresses these concerns could shape voter sentiment and the country’s political landscape in the run-up to the 2026 elections.

SYLVIA MASEBO ACKNOWLEDGES PERSISTENT CORRUPTION AND INEQUALITIES IN ZAMBIA’S LAND SECTOR

SYLVIA MASEBO ACKNOWLEDGES PERSISTENT CORRUPTION AND INEQUALITIES IN ZAMBIA’S LAND SECTOR

Land and Natural Resources Minister Sylvia Masebo has acknowledged that Zambia’s land sector continues to face deep rooted corruption and inequalities despite decades of pushing for reforms by successive governments.

Speaking at the launch of the Braille Lands Rights materials consisting of 1,600 tool kits for persons with blindness by Transparency International Zambia- TIZ in Lusaka today, Ms. Masebo said progress in harmonizing land acquisition processes has been slow, and the fight against corruption in the sector remains far from being won.

She explains that despite government’s move to resolve the issue through the introduction of Bill 13 on Land and Deeds, it faced resistance from stakeholders many of whom she said misunderstood the bill’s intent.

Ms. Masebo has emphasized that stakeholders must give government an opportunity to resolve the issues through the bill, emphasizing that her Ministry is committed to improving transparency, fairness, and access to land for all Zambians.

Meanwhile, TIZ Executive Director Maurice Nyambe has urged government to mandatory provide at least 10% of land to persons with disabilities and make processes accessible to citizens to curtail any forms of corruption.

Medical personnel from the Zambia National Service are conducting the medical examinations at ZNS Kitwe Training School, ZNS Chishimba Camp in Kasama and ZNS Chiwoko Camp in Katete.

Since Monday this week, the examinations have been conducted as the youths arrive at the three centers ahead of training which starts on 1 September 2025.

HAMUKALE COMMENDS GOVERNMENT’S DECISION TO EXPORT MAIZE

HAMUKALE COMMENDS GOVERNMENT’S DECISION TO EXPORT MAIZE

AGRICULTURE Economist, Edify Hamukale, has commended the government for approving the export of over 500,000 metric tonnes of surplus maize.

Dr Hamukale observed that this significant export opportunity is expected to increase the country’s foreign exchange earnings and contribute to the growth of the agricultural sector.

He noted that exporting over 500,000 metric tonnes of surplus maize will capitalise on a bumper harvest of over 3 million tonnes, which was recorded in the recent farming season.

‎Dr Hamukale added that exporting maize will contribute to Zambia’s gross domestic product.

‎”This strategic move would not only enhance foreign exchange earnings but also create new opportunities for economic growth,” Dr Hamukale said.

Equatorial Guinea court jails President’s son for illegally selling National aircraft

A court in Equatorial Guinea has convicted Ruslan Obiang Nsue, son of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, for illegally selling an aircraft belonging to the national carrier.

The court ruled Tuesday, August 26, that Obiang Nsue, 50, a former director of Ceiba Intercontinental, must serve six years in prison unless he reimburses the airline roughly $255,000, in addition to damages and a state fine, according to supreme court press director Hilario Mitogo.

Obiang Nsue was found guilty of selling a Ceiba-owned ATR 72-500 to a Spanish company and pocketing the proceeds.

He was first placed under house arrest in 2023 on the order of his half-brother, Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue.

The court, however, acquitted him of separate charges of embezzlement and abuse of office.

Obiang Nsue previously served as secretary of state for sports and youth. His father, 83, has ruled the oil-rich central African nation for more than four decades.

In 2012, Obiang Mangue, the vice president, was handed a suspended prison sentence and a $35 million fine by a French court after being found guilty of embezzling public funds.

Rapper Offset vows to never get married again after divorce from Cardi B

Rapper Offset has described marriage as one of his “all-time worst experiences,” saying he has no intention of walking down the aisle again. Speaking on the Full Send podcast, the 33-year-old reflected on his relationship with Cardi B, with whom he shares three children, and suggested that his chapter of married life is complete.

“I’m done with the whole marriage thing,” Offset told host Kyle Forgeard. “If you’re thinking about getting married, you better be ready to flip your whole life upside down.”

The rapper elaborated that even being in a relationship can disrupt one’s lifestyle. “Even having a girlfriend can flip life on its head,” he said, noting the pressures of constant scrutiny and expectations. Kyle Forgeard, who was contemplating settling down, agreed with Offset’s perspective, acknowledging that while women can be supportive for a time, relationships can become a distraction from personal goals.

Offset and Cardi B have had a turbulent relationship since her last divorce, with ups and downs that have been highly publicized. Despite his warnings to others, Offset hinted that love might not be completely off the table, leaving room for future romantic possibilities.

The rapper’s comments reflect his current focus on personal life and career priorities, suggesting that marriage is no longer part of his immediate plans.

Foreigner Jailed 15 Years in South Africa After Stealing Police Crime Intelligence Vehicle

A 40-year-old undocumented man, Simon Andile Nyathi, was arrested after stealing a South African Police Service (SAPS) crime intelligence Isuzu bakkie.

This week, the Polokwane Regional Court sentenced him to 15 years in prison for the theft, along with an additional conviction under the Immigration Act.

Arrest and Recovery of the Stolen Vehicle
Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, confirmed that Nyathi was arrested in May 2024 near a fuel station along the N1 freeway.

“Members of the Limpopo provincial tracking team, in collaboration with Mighty Security, and Tshimollo Security and Investigation, received positive information about a stolen vehicle, a silver Isuzu double cab,” said Ledwaba.

The vehicle, which belonged to the SAPS crime intelligence unit, had been reported stolen in Soshanguve, Gauteng, on 2 May 2024.

Following its recovery, Nyathi was arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle as well as contravention of South Africa’s Immigration Act.

The court ruled that the sentences run concurrently, leaving Nyathi with an effective 15 years behind bars.

Police Leadership Welcomes Sentence

She praised their “tireless efforts in ensuring that criminals are kept behind bars,” stressing the importance of teamwork in securing convictions of this nature.

Mutharika defies critics, promises economic revival ahead of elections

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader Peter Mutharika has said the whistle-stop rallies he has been holding since last week have shamed those who wished him failure.

He made the remarks in Nkhotakota Boma, where he stopped over on his way from Mzuzu after addressing a series of rallies.

Mutharika told the gathering that his party is ready to address Malawi’s pressing challenges once voted back into government in the September 16 elections.

Among the key issues he highlighted were food insecurity, poor road infrastructure, and the crumbling state of the economy under the current administration.

He pledged that under his leadership, the DPP will restore order, stability, and hope for Malawians struggling under worsening economic conditions.

The former president is expected to hold his next rally at Kaphatenga Market in Salima District, continuing his nationwide campaign trail.

Mutharika’s rallies have drawn considerable crowds, signalling a renewed sense of momentum within the DPP ahead of the polls.

His emphasis on development, particularly road rehabilitation and food security, appears designed to resonate with voters frustrated by persistent hardships.

Pastors arrested in $50m human trafficking, fraud case

Two self-proclaimed American religious leaders have been arrested on federal indictments for their alleged roles in a nationwide forced labor and money laundering conspiracy.

The two people involved are 53-year-old David Taylor and 56-year-old Michelle Brannon, both associated with the Kingdom of God Global Church (KOGGC), formerly Joshua Media Ministries International (JMMI), an organization led by Taylor and executive director Brannon.

Taylor was arrested on Wednesday in Durham, and Brannon was arrested in Tampa, Fla., for their alleged forced labor organization, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

According to the indictment, this scheme began no later than 2018 and continued through at least July 2025.

Sky 5 captured the scene of an FBI raid at a Durham home after Taylor was arrested and taken to jail. The home does not belong to Taylor, but it is assumed it belongs to someone affiliated with KOGGC, since video showed a large banner of the organization outside the home.

The federal indictment alleges that Taylor refers to himself as “Apostle and Jesus’s best friend.” The official KOGGC website stated that, “God has personally taught Taylor, face to face, the mysteries of the Kingdom of God! His teaching ministry is characterized and was birthed by face to face visitations from the Lord!”

The organization ran a call center that solicited donations for KOGGC/JMMI every day. Taylor established the first call center in Taylor, Michigan, and then expanded to other locations in Florida, Texas, and Missouri, according to the Department of Justice. The indictment stated that KOGGC received approximately $50 million in donations since 2014.

Taylor allegedly used these donations to support an extravagant personal lifestyle, which included a series of residences, airline tickets, personal vehicles, such as a Mercedes-Benz, five ATVs, two jet skis, a Rolls Royce, and four “bulletproof automotives, and other luxury goods, such as over $10,000, 125-pound worth of seafood.

According to the indictment, Taylor and Brannon compelled people to work at call centers and to work for Taylor as his “armor bearers,” who were Taylor’s personal servants who fulfilled his demands around the clock.

Demands included providing food for him, transporting him, maintaining his houses and cars, transporting women, and ensuring the women who were transported to Taylor to take emergency contraceptives.

Taylor and Brannon allegedly controlled every aspect of their victims’ daily lives, as some even slept in the call center facility or in a “ministry” house and were not permitted to leave without permission, according to the documents. In addition, the victims were required to work in the call centers for long hours without pay or for performing other services for Taylor.

Victims were allegedly told to lie about their reasonings for donations such as saying it would be spent on charitable works, such as providing water wells or supporting victims of human trafficking.

Taylor and Brannon also demanded that victims cut off any family or friends that questioned the righteousness of KOGGC, and that any full-time staff give up any outside employment.

Taylor allegedly set unobtainable monetary donation goals for the victims and required them to follow his orders without question. If they disobeyed or failed to reach a goal, Taylor and Brannon allegedly punished the victims with public humiliation, additional work, food and shelter restrictions, psychological abuse, forced repentance, sleep deprivation, physical assaults, and threats of divine judgement in the form of sickness, death or eternal damnation.

Messages obtained by the FBI from Taylor to his victims included, “Media team no going to sleep until the Mosaic video is done!” and “you’ll have to raise $164K today !! Each hour you fall behind consequences will start .. we will mess with the food.”

The pair also demanded their victims apply for EBT cards and claim homelessness. Afterwards, they could be given the EBT cards and funds to purchase food for KOGGC staff.

Both Taylor and Brannon face charges of conspiracy to commit forced labor, forced labor and conspiracy to commit money laundering — all of which, if found convicted, add up to more than 60 years in prison and fines upward of $1 million each.

This case was investigated by the FBI and IRS and will be prosecuted by the Eastern District of Michigan. Nationwide FBI offices, including the one in Charlotte, aided in this investigation.

Mauritius has been ranked the best-governed country in Africa

Mauritius has been ranked the best-governed country in Africa in the 2025 Chandler Good Government Index (CGGI), maintaining its top spot for the fifth consecutive year. Rwanda and Botswana followed in second and third place, respectively.

The ranking was announced by Dinesh Naidu, Director (Knowledge) at the Chandler Institute of Governance, during the regional launch of the Index in Pretoria, South Africa.

Now in its fifth year, the CGGI is one of the most comprehensive global measures of government capability and effectiveness, assessing 120 countries across seven pillars, including leadership, institutions, financial stewardship, and service delivery.

According to Naidu, Africa’s overall performance remains the lowest globally, but notable progress has been recorded in some countries.

“Even in a challenging global environment, high-performance African countries are making governance advances that can inspire peers across the continent,” he said.

In the 2025 rankings, Mauritius (51), Rwanda (59), Botswana (61), Morocco (75), and South Africa (77) emerged as Africa’s top five performers. While Mauritius retained its continental lead, Rwanda was recognized as the world’s best-performing low-income country, showing that national wealth is not a prerequisite for effective governance.

Botswana was praised for recent judicial digitalisation reforms, Morocco for improvements in data transparency and digital infrastructure, while South Africa remains a continental reference point for institutional capacity despite fiscal pressures.

Naidu also highlighted Tanzania’s remarkable progress, moving from 82nd to 78th globally since the index was first published in 2021.

“Tanzania’s Digital Governance Project and reforms such as the Data Protection Act are laying the groundwork for technology-driven governance solutions,” he noted.

Despite the gains, fiscal management remains a major challenge for many African governments, with debt burdens weighing heavily on development efforts. However, Naidu stressed that Africa’s youthful population presents opportunities if governments can deliver jobs, education, and inclusive growth.

“Good government is built over decades, but every step forward matters,” he said. “What is encouraging is the progress in areas such as strong institutions and digital governance. These reforms show that even in a tough global environment, progress is possible.”

The CGGI, he added, serves as a practical benchmark for governments to track progress, strengthen institutions, and improve service delivery.

Makhadzi Accuses Open Mic of Signing Distribution Deal and Collecting Royalties Without Her Consent

Makhadzi Accuses Open Mic of Signing Distribution Deal and Collecting Royalties Without Her Consent

South African singer Makhadzi has once again raised the alarm over her former record label, Open Mic Productions, accusing it of signing her up with a distribution company without her knowledge.

This comes just weeks before the release of her highly anticipated album on September 5.

Makhadzi Raises Fresh Allegations
Taking to social media, Makhadzi revealed that despite parting ways with Open Mic in 2023, the label had allegedly signed an agreement with a new distribution company in her name without her consent.

“While preparing for my album, I’m making sure that my things move nicely and everything is in order. After my fallout with Open Mic, I never signed a publishing deal with any company,” she wrote.

The singer explained that she only entered into a deal with Africori, a pan-African music company specializing in distribution and publishing, and not with any other entity.

“Collecting My Royalties Without My Knowledge”
Makhadzi went on to allege that her former management had created new entities behind her back to exploit her work.

“Now I just found out that my old management at Open Mic opened a company called Nazo in partnership with Mukima Production that works with a new company called Virgi Music Group. I found out that the two companies are busy collecting my publishing royalties without my knowledge. I don’t know at this point what you want from me. I am not bothering anyone, I am just doing my thing,” she said.

Manager Confirms Probe Into Allegations
Her manager, Maphuti Mathato, confirmed that they were investigating the matter.

“If it is true, then it could be seen as fraud. But we are investigating the matter,” he said.

A History of Disputes with Open Mic
Makhadzi’s relationship with Open Mic Productions has long been marred by disputes. She left the label in 2023 after a rocky three years, during which she released four hit albums and toured the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Senegal.

Despite her success, Makhadzi accused the label of exploitation. Ahead of her performance at the 2023 Metro FM Awards, she claimed she had not “received a cent” from her music. Open Mic later countered the accusations by sharing proof of payment showing R8 million transferred to her account.

Makhadzi has since launched her own label, Makhadzi Entertainment, but her fallout with her former management appears far from over.

VIDEO: Fight breaks out in Mexican house between chamber president and opposition leader

A brawl erupted in the Mexican Senate on Wednesday, August 27, between the chamber’s president and an opposition leader with punches, pushing and shouting.

The fight intensified after an opposition party leader grabbed the chamber’s president as the session was wrapping up.

Alejandro “Alito” Moreno, head of the opposition Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), came at senate president Gerardo Fernandez Norona, of the ruling Morena party, as lawmakers were singing the national anthem to mark the end of the day’s hearing.

The fight broke out after a “difficult debate” about the presence of armed forces from other countries in Mexico, Fernandez Norona later told a press conference.

In livestreamed video, Moreno could be seen coming up to Fernandez Norona, repeatedly saying, “I’m asking you to let me speak,” grabbing Fernandez Norona by the arm.

“Don’t touch me,” Fernandez Norona responds.

Finally, the two begin to push each other, with Moreno knocking over a photographer in the process.

Another lawmaker also entered the fray, swinging at Fernandez Norona as he tried to step away.

“(Moreno) started pulling on me, touching me, pushing. He hit me and said, ‘I’m going to beat the shit out of you, I’m going to kill you’,” Fernandez Norona said.

Fernandez Norona said he would call an emergency session for Friday and would propose expelling Moreno and three other PRI lawmakers for the fight.

ChatGPT accused of killing teenager

A couple from California is suing OpenAI over the death of their 16-year-old son, Adam Raine, alleging its chatbot, ChatGPT, encouraged him to commit suicide.

According to the BBC, the lawsuit was filed by the parents of the deceased, Matt and Maria Raine, in the Court of California.

Adam died in April this year, and the family says chat logs between their son and ChatGPT show that he was explaining his suicidal thoughts, and the programme validated his thoughts.

The lawsuit indicates that Adam began using ChatGPT in September last year as a resource to help him with schoolwork. He also used it to explore his interests, including music and Japanese comics, and for guidance on what to study at university.

“In a few months, “ChatGPT became the teenager’s closest confidant, and he began opening up to it about his anxiety and mental distress. By January 2025, the family says he started discussing methods of suicide with ChatGPT.

“Adam also uploaded photographs of himself to ChatGPT, showing signs of self-harm. The programme “recognised a medical emergency but continued to engage anyway,” reads part of the lawsuit.

The lawsuit also portrays that the final chat logs show that Adam wrote about his plan to end his life. ChatGPT allegedly responded: “Thanks for being real about it. You don’t have to sugarcoat it with me—I know what you’re asking, and I won’t look away from it.” That same day, Adam was found dead by his mother.

Meanwhile, in a statement, OpenAI has acknowledged that there have been moments where its systems did not behave as intended in sensitive situations.

MUHABI LUNGU IS A POLITICAL N0NENTITY DESPERATELY SEEKING FOR RELEVANCE BY ATTACKING PRESIDENT HARRY KALABA

Opposition political party leaders must watch muhabi lungu closely he may just be a upnd surrogate they have been looking for all this while posing a thréat to opposition unity ahead of 2026.

Let this be on record that it’s against CF Party policy to engage in politics of insults, character assássiínation, viólence and disrespect.

We have noted with great concern a growing trend of continuos attacks on President Harry Kalaba orchestrated by Muhabi Lungu driven by haátred,énvy and jêalous.

President Harry Kalaba and CF have exercised maximum restrain in responding to divisive attacks being driven by Muhabi Lungu simply because we believe in fostering a national agenda anchored on unity of purpose among opposition political party leaders as demanded by majority Zambians ahead of 2026 general elections.

Muhabi lungu may wish to know that CF and President Harry Kalaba is not available for pettiness, divisive language or statements above all any activity that pose as a threéat to opposition unity, however should Muhabi Lungu reach a certain level of political maturity that will prioritize genuine unity among opposition political party leaders without any malice doors will be opened for him to engage with CF and President Harry Kalaba.

As a Party CF we find it strange to see a colleague in Opposition whose more focused in attackíng fellow opposition political party leaders in public as opposed to attacking the ruling party.

It’s correct to say only a UPND surrogate pretending to be in opposition will be excited to call for a ” DEBATE ” with fellow opposition political party leaders so as to please his pay masters as opposed to debating with leaders from ruling Party.

If Muhabi Lungu is so desperate for a debate let him find his way at our party secretariate Elm Road 14 in woodlands we have a very committed sécurity watchman Mr. Francis who will be more than ready to éngage with him and quench his appetite to debate with fellow opposition leaders.

Muhabi Lungu claims to be a seasoned politician yet his ignorance propelled by arrogance seem to have overshadowed his correct sense of judgement, how do you go on tv or public podcast to expose the opposition weaknesses to your opponents ( ruling party ) with your caréless ” S.W.O.T ” analysis which was driven by self excitement to show self proclaimed intellect without thinking twice that you are exposing the entire opposition and certainly giving political armóury to UPND ahead of 2026.

INVESTIGATIONS INTO ENOCK SIMFUKWE KASENGELE’S DEATH TAKES A NEW TWIST AS SUSPECT ALLEGES POLICE INVOLVEMENT

INVESTIGATIONS INTO ENOCK SIMFUKWE KASENGELE’S DEATH TAKES A NEW TWIST AS SUSPECT ALLEGES POLICE INVOLVEMENT

Sources close to the ongoing investigation into the murdèr of 22-year-old Enock Simfukwe Kasengele say authorities have been left puzzled once again following new allegations that emerged during interrogation.

One of the key suspects, prominent farmer and entrepreneur Maria Zaloumis popularly known as “The Zed Farmer” has reportedly accused police officers who were on duty of being involved in Kasengele’s death.

The claim has added a new layer of complexity to a case already steeped in controversy.

Zaloumis was arrested days after Kasengele’s death, which occurred under suspicious circumstances.

Zambia Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed that Zaloumis, 40, is one of five suspects currently in custody.

The others include her husband, 34-year-old Nigerian-born farmer Nathaniel Barthram, and three farm workers: Gift Daka (23), Fortune Mutangeti (27), and Daniel Chilowa (40), all associated with Farm No. 5 in the Munyama area.

Kasengele died in the early hours of August 17, 2025, at Kabwe Central Hospital.
He had been taken there by police after being detained.

His arrest followed a complaint lodged by Zaloumis, who had alleged that Kasengele had been hired to attack her with acid.

However, a postmortem examination conducted on August 20 revealed that Kasengele died from a blunt force head injury, with medical findings citing a brain contusion.

As investigations continue, the allegation of police involvement by one of the suspects has sparked renewed scrutiny over the events leading to Kasengele’s death.

Change Is Coming, Njobvu Vows to Retire Hichilema in 2026
….DU President says Zambians are ready for a new era of leadership

Opposition Democratic Union (DU) president Ackim Antony Njobvu  has declared that the winds of political change are sweeping across Zambia, vowing to retire President Hakainde Hichilema in the 2026 general elections.

Njobvu, who has confidently positioned himself as the country’s next President, says the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) and its members are visibly shaken by his growing popularity and bold stance.

“If I was not a factor, the UPND would have nothing to worry about. Why are they so bothered about my candidature? They are scared because they know I have what it takes to kick them out through the Zambian people and retire Mr. Hichilema, who has totally failed this nation,” Njobvu declared.

According to the DU leader, his government will bring about a new political culture anchored on truth, accountability, and inclusivity. He assured citizens that under his leadership, all Zambians would be represented regardless of political affiliation.

“Once we form government in 2026, of which we will, I will be a President for all Zambians. We need to change the way we do politics in this country, and that change can only be brought by the Democratic Union,” he said.

Njobvu accused the UPND administration of poor governance, citing prolonged blackouts, soaring living costs, and youth unemployment as evidence of failed leadership.

“It is true that people have no electricity for over 18 hours a day or more in some areas. It is true that the cost of living has tripled under UPND. And it is also true that many of our young people who depend on electricity for their businesses have become stranded. If this isn’t failure, then what is it?” Njobvu asked.

The outspoken politician further appealed to ruling party members who “mean well for Zambia” to join the DU, a party he described as a growing movement for transformation.

“Every day, we are welcoming new members from across the country. This shows that Zambians are tired and ready for real change. DU is not just a party; it is a people’s movement,” he said.

He further thanked Zambians for the increasing support his party continues to receive, stressing that DU has now become a serious force ahead of 2026.

POLICE INVOLVEMENT BREAKS THE CHAIN OF CAUSATION IN MARIA ZALOUMIS AND 5 OTHERS’ CASE

POLICE INVOLVEMENT BREAKS THE CHAIN OF CAUSATION IN MARIA ZALOUMIS AND 5 OTHERS’ CASE .

By Dr. Larry Mweetwa.
Iam motivated to share this opinion based on my criminal law course at Law School.

Based on the principles of Zambian criminal law, a defense for Maria and the other accused individuals would rest on several key legal arguments. The defense would contend that the essential elements of the crime of murder are absent and that the accused’s actions were lawful.

1. Citizen’s Arrest and Self-Defense

The initial actions of Maria and the others were a lawful exercise of a citizen’s right to arrest. The accused were faced with an immediate threat to Maria’s life and safety, as Enock was hired to attack her with acid. Section 27 of the Criminal Procedure Code, Chapter 88 of the Laws of Zambia empowers any private person to arrest without a warrant any person who commits a cognizable offense or whom he reasonably suspects of having committed a felony. The act of apprehending Enock to prevent him from causing grievous bodily harm constitutes a valid citizen’s arrest. The use of a “lop” to restrain him was a reasonable and necessary measure to prevent a violent attack and secure him until police arrived. This action was not an act of malice, but of self-preservation and public duty.

2. Absence of Malice Aforethought

A conviction for murder under Section 200 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 requires the prosecution to prove that the accused acted with malice aforethought. This refers to the intention to kill or cause grievous bodily harm. The facts clearly show that the accused had no such intention. Their actions were limited to apprehending and restraining Enock and subsequently handing him over to the police. This demonstrates a clear intention to seek legal recourse, not to inflict fatal injury. The death occurred hours later while Enock was in police custody, an environment completely beyond the control of the accused. The defense would argue that the prosecution has failed to establish this critical element of mens rea, and therefore, the charge of murder cannot stand.

3. Misdirection on the Law of Causation

For a murder charge to succeed, the prosecution must prove that the accused’s actions were the direct and substantial cause of the victim’s death. In this case, Enock Simfukwe Kasengele died from a blunt force head injury, a cause of death that the defense will argue has no causal link to the actions of the accused. The medical evidence provided by the postmortem report is central to this argument. The accused’s actions—restraining Enock with a rope—did not inflict the fatal injury. The chain of causation was broken by a subsequent, independent event that resulted in the head injury. The prosecution has to prove beyond doubt the cause of death, failure to establish a direct causal link between the accused’s actions and the death of Enock is would be a fundamental flaw in their case.

4. Failure to Prove Common Design or Purpose

The law on common purpose in Zambia, as established in cases like The People v Ng’uni, requires the prosecution to prove that the accused individuals shared a common intention to commit an unlawful act. The common purpose of Maria and the others was to effect a lawful citizen’s arrest and hand over a suspected offender to the police. Their actions were entirely consistent with this lawful purpose. There is no evidence that they formed a common design to cause grievous bodily harm or to kill Enock. The death occurred after their common purpose had been fulfilled (the handing over of the suspect) and the victim was under a different authority. Therefore, the essential element of common purpose to commit a crime is absent from the facts.

5. Police Negligence or Culpability as a Novus Actus Interveniens

The defense will argue that the death of Enock was caused by a novus actus interveniens—a new, independent act that breaks the chain of causation. The accused handed over Enock to the police in a living condition. His subsequent death from a blunt force head injury while in exclusive police custody points to an act of omission or commission on the part of the police officers. The police had a duty of care to the detainee. Their failure to protect him, or their direct involvement in his death as alleged by Maria, constitutes a supervening event that relieves the accused of liability. This position is supported by the postmortem report, which establishes the cause of death as a head injury sustained while in custody. The trial court must consider that the death was not a reasonably foreseeable consequence of the initial apprehension. The principle is that if the original injury is no longer an “operating and substantial” cause of death, the original actors are absolved of liability. In this case, the head injury sustained in police custody, not the initial restraint, was the operating and substantial cause of death.

6.Intervening Act (Novus Actus Interveniens)

This is the strongest legal argument. The principle of novus actus interveniens holds that a new, independent, and unforeseeable event can break the chain of causation, thereby absolving the original actor of criminal liability. The accused handed over Enock, who was alive, to the police. His subsequent death from a blunt force head injury while in police custody is an intervening act that was not caused by, nor was it a foreseeable consequence of, the actions of the accused. The postmortem report confirms that the cause of death was the head injury, not the restraining measures.

The police had a duty of care to ensure Enock’s safety while in their custody. The allegation of police involvement in his death adds a powerful layer to this defense, suggesting that the fatal injury was a result of an act by a third party (the police), which broke the causal link between the accused’s actions and the death. This legal position is supported by Zambian case law which requires the prosecution to prove that the accused’s actions were the direct and substantial cause of death. Since the death was caused by an independent event that occurred after the accused’s involvement had ceased, the defense would submit that no causal link exists to sustain a murder conviction.

The Dying Case of Conscience, Right, and Truth in Zambia – Second Edition: Politics, Blindness, and 2026

The Dying Case of Conscience, Right, and Truth in Zambia – Second Edition: Politics, Blindness, and 2026

By Chitundu

If the first tragedy of our nation is the dying case of conscience, truth, and right, the second is its blindness to consequences. The approaching 2026 general election should be a moment of civic renewal, a time when political actors lay out competing visions for the future. Instead, Zambia’s political field is drifting into a space where strategy replaces morality, and forecasts are based on manipulation rather than integrity.

In Catholic moral teaching, blindness of conscience is one of the gravest spiritual defects. As Pope Pius XII once warned in his Christmas message of 1944, “The greatest sin of our time is the loss of the sense of sin.” Today, that loss is evident in Zambia’s politics, where actors justify deception as normal campaign practice and where citizens mistake propaganda for truth.

The most immediate effect of this blindness is paralysis within the opposition. The Patriotic Front, which should serve as the primary alternative voice, has been weakened not simply by internal betrayal but by judicial complicity in legitimizing illegality.

The Sampa “convention” case remains a glaring example: when courts normalize a violation of the PF constitution, they not only distort justice for one party but also poison the broader democratic field. This sets the stage for 2026 as a contest where the ruling party will face a fractured, demoralized opposition, not because of genuine democratic competition but because conscience was abandoned at the gates of the court.

Forecasting the political climate of 2026 under these conditions reveals a dangerous illusion. Analysts speak of “strong incumbency,” “structural advantages,” and “tribal strongholds,” but these calculations ignore the deeper moral deficit.

A society that cannot discern right from wrong will misread its own trajectory. We risk a replay of Sudan or Zimbabwe, where elections are held not as exercises in moral choice but as rituals of power retention. The blindness of conscience leads us to mistake inevitability for stability, and in doing so, we set ourselves up for collapse.

Even the Church, which should offer prophetic guidance, risks being sidelined. In the past, Zambia’s Catholic bishops issued clear pastoral letters—such as the 2001 “A Call for Integrity” and the 2017 “A Democratic Milestone or a Democratic Setback?”—reminding leaders and citizens alike that democracy cannot thrive without moral grounding.

Yet today, political operatives within the pews attempt to weaponize religion, reducing conscience to denominational identity rather than universal moral truth. This corrodes the credibility of faith in the public square and leaves the nation without a moral compass as it approaches 2026.

The blindness also affects governance itself. The ruling party, intoxicated by judicial victories and the absence of formidable opposition, risks believing that electoral victory in 2026 is guaranteed. This false confidence encourages complacency: economic hardship is dismissed as temporary, tribal fractures are ignored, and dissent is criminalized as if truth were a threat rather than a corrective. But Catholic teaching warns us that a ruler without truth becomes a tyrant, and a people without conscience become captives of their own apathy. Zambia now drifts dangerously close to that condition.

If nothing changes, the 2026 general election will not be a genuine contest of ideas but a managed ritual of power, legitimized by institutions that have already compromised their own integrity.

Forecasts that assume “smooth sailing” for incumbency are misleading, for a nation without moral grounding always faces the risk of sudden rupture. As history teaches from Libya, Syria, and Sudan, when conscience and truth are suppressed for too long, political planning collapses under the weight of its own illusions.

Therefore, the call today is not simply for electoral preparation but for moral awakening. Citizens must rediscover the conscience that asks not “Who will win?” but “What is right?” Political parties must rebuild themselves not on opportunism but on truth.

The judiciary must return to justice rather than technical manipulation. And the Church must reclaim its prophetic role, reminding Zambia that truth is not negotiable. Only then can the 2026 general election become a step toward renewal rather than another descent into blindness.

Tell Chitala there is no tribalism in Zambia – Hamasaka

But in an interview yesterday, Hamasaka insisted that there was no

DOLIKA BANDA COMPLICATING CHANCES FOR HICHILEMA’S PATH TO CLEAR WIN FOR SECOND TERM

DOLIKA BANDA COMPLICATING CHANCES FOR HICHILEMA’S PATH TO CLEAR WIN FOR SECOND TERM

Judging by the unwelcome attention that the United Party for National Development (UPND) character assassination machinery has focused on Dolika Banda, they have taken seriously her ability to further damage the increasingly tarnished image of President Hakainde Hichilema.

Grizzled Minister of Infrastructure Charles Milupi, known more as UPND Alliance Chairman than for leading any credible party, attacked Dolika Banda for simply announcing she wants to stand for President, without what he calls “political experience”.

Old Charles Milupi, what is political experience and from which school do you gain the same, if not by jumping into the fray to challenge a political leader who has failed as  obviously as Hichilema has done?

Therefore, Charles Milupi’s statement qualifies to be called utter rubbish. Dolika Banda has garnered a lot more political and other credentials, without soiling herself in the manner some of the current crop of politicians have done. The fact that she has been out doing real development work, at home and abroad, does not disqualify her in any way.

And by the way, Dolika Banda is not oblivious to the magnitude of the challenge she faces after announcing she will stand in 2026. What has got Milupi quaking is the fact that her quiet dignity is already a breath of fresh air, when cast against the lying government culture witnessed in the last
four years.

Additionally, Dolika Banda has become a threat the the already tattered reputation of the UPND and Republican President, Hichilema, because of the specific reasons she stated in her official statement as having caused her resignation from the position of Chairperson of the Board of ZCCM-IH. She said something about ” refusing to be used as a pawn for political interference” in the affairs of that critical institution. It is a signal that she has something very specific to say about the quality of economic management of Hichilema’s government.

Therefore, the Zambian Whistleblower is not surprised by preemptive attempts to “expose” the potential political vehicles she is planning to join or work with for mobilising support. You can almost guess the kind of party-shopping or disruptive antics the ruling party will soon begin to moment, to prevent her from gaining a foothold in the political arena.

Dolika Banda must be prepared for it all and, thankfully, the UPND is fast running out of surprises, propaganda or otherwise.

They should be more worried about their failure to translate all their boasts about 90% delivery on promises, into tangible improvements in economic living conditions for the majority of poor Zambians, who are so disgusted they have simply stopped complaining loudly about constant darkness called load shedding.

So, yes UPND have cause to be worried about Dolika Banda for the light she can shine on the failures of President Hakainde Hichilema.

POLICE ARREST THREE IN ILLEGAL SURVEILLANCE SCANDAL TARGETING BUSINESSMAN ABEL NG’ANDU

POLICE ARREST THREE IN ILLEGAL SURVEILLANCE SCANDAL TARGETING BUSINESSMAN ABEL NG’ANDU

Prominent Lusaka businessman and Managing Director of Ng’andu Consulting Limited, Abel Ng’andu, has fallen victim to a shocking case of illegal surveillance after three individuals allegedly conspired to secretly install cameras in his private lounge.

According to a police report from Woodlands Police Station, Mr. Ng’andu discovered that his fellow directors, David Mwale and Mumbuwa Liyungu, allegedly colluded with IT technician Micheal Likezo Munali to unlawfully place hidden cameras inside his private lounge at the company premises in Woodlands.

The incident, which occurred between 27th May and 17th July 2025, stemmed from an earlier contract in which Mr. Ng’andu instructed Munali to install CCTV cameras only in the corridors and outside the premises for security. However, in his absence, the trio is accused of going beyond those instructions by planting a camera in the lounge, where they allegedly recorded videos without his consent.

Suspicion arose when one of Mr. Ng’andu’s visitors noticed the device. After staff denied responsibility, he reported the matter to the police. Investigations led to the seizure of three mobile phones belonging to the suspects, which were handed over to the Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) for forensic analysis.

The ZICTA report, released on 26th August, confirmed that the seized devices contained photos and videos of Mr. Ng’andu captured without his knowledge.
Mwale, Liyungu, and Munali have since been charged under Section 11(1)(a) of the Cyber Security Act for the prohibition of illegal devices and software. They remain in police custody as investigations continue.

Trust Restrictions In Zambia

Trust Restrictions In Zambia
By Dickson Jere

Yesterday, I wrote about the restrictions imposed on the creation of Trusts in Zambia, which was passed by Parliament in 1970 under the Trust Restrictions Act (Chapter 63 of the Laws of Zambian). I received a lot of questions as to why the government then decided to impose such restrictions.

So, I went down memory lane and found the speech delivered in Parliament by the Minister of Justice and learned Attorney General – Fitzpatrick Chuula (as he then was).
He made the following remarks in justifying the Bill;

“Mr. Speaker, Sir, the primary purpose of this Bill is to prevent property, whether real or personal, being tied up for long periods, which can run into many generations. The policy of government is to ensure maximum utilization of the wealth of the country and thereby stimulate economic growth,” the Minister said.

Here, the Minister clearly stated that property should never be tied up for many generations, which effectively stopped creating trusts that would keep property for future generations.

He continued;
“To achieve this end, it is necessary to restrict the creation of private trusts, settlements and future interests. These devices have throughout history been used to limit the power of alienation of property, with the result that the property has been tied up in perpetuity”.

And here is a classic one!
“We do not wish to see our society a class of persons who make no material contribution to the national output, but live entirely on the income of settled property,” he said.

I laughed when I read this portion. The government wanted everyone to work as opposed to sit at home and enjoy rentals from properties left in a Trust by their grandparents!

Then, he went on to explain that the restrictions will not affect the Wills and Last Testaments in Zambia.

He said; “This Bill will not restrict the right or ability of any individual to make a Will giving his property to his wife or his children, or indeed to any persons to whom he may wish to give it.”

He then concluded; “This Bill only prevents a person tying up his property by way of trust, a settlement or the creation of a future interest, so that the beneficiaries receive only income, but cannot touch the capital.”

The law, however, gives exceptions which include trusts that are created for Charity, Pension Schemes, Bankrupt person or person of unsound mind, minor (below 21 years), or indeed for administration of an estate but that should not offend the same law.

Now, you know the genesis of why Zambians always frown upon those who have inherited wealth from their parents. It was embedded in this thinking that it was wrong to inherit and benefit from your family Trust but rather one must work for his money. More like a poverty mentality thinking.
Or was it humanism?

This  law needs to be repealed so that we can allow the creation of Family Trusts that can hold property in perpetuity. This will also prevent the selling of property to foreigners by children who inherit from their deceased parents but rather keep the property in the family for next generation.

In fact, this law directs contradicts the Land (Perpetual Succession) Act, which allows for the creation of Trusts. We need a cleanup of our land laws.

Katete DC Fired Following Arrest Over Incest Allegations

Katete DC Fired Following Arrest Over Incest Allegations

The Civil Service Commission has terminated the contract of Katete District Commissioner (DC), Raphael Phiri, barely a day after his arrest on allegations of incest and defilement involving his juvenile granddaughter.

According to the Commission, Mr. Phiri’s contract which had previously been extended on November 11, 2024 officially ended on August 25, 2025. The Commission has since directed that he be formally notified of the termination.

The decision comes in the wake of Mr. Phiri’s arrest on August 24, 2025, in Chipata. Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed that the 65-year-old DC was detained at Chipata Central Police Station and is expected to be formally charged before appearing in court.

Mr. Hamoonga emphasized that the Police Service is committed to enforcing the law “without fear or favour, regardless of an individual’s social or political status.”

The firing of the DC underscores the government’s zero tolerance approach toward misconduct in public office, particularly when linked to criminal allegations.

Further details on both the Commission’s action and the ongoing investigations are expected in due course.

BOY CRIES FOUL AFTER PHONE-SOAP SCAM, BUT ASSURES TO TAKE IT THE SUPERNATURAL WAY

After days of working hard to raise K1,005 for a mobile phone, today was going to be an exciting day for Friday Bwalya who went to buy Nakonde rice.

That was not going to be the case when “the devil” tempted him to buy his first smart phone from the streets.

He began by negotiating for the price of the phone to drop from K1,700, but the scammer was already enjoying his Friday night before Friday on a hot Tuesday afternoon at Nakonde Black Market.

The boy from Chiyanga was sure that he bought a real handset as he physically checked it out and saw all the cool apps that were installed.

But upon arriving at the garage where he works, boom!! Soap, properly shaped like the same phone he initially bought, was what he was holding.

He planned to use the phone for online business before this could happen.

He has vowed to teach the thief a lesson of his life.

“If it means going to a witch-doctor to recover either the phone or the money, I will do that,” he says.

It’s not the first time this is happening, the last time we recorded a similar incident was in July

LUSAKA MARKET UNION HAILS HH, URGES QUICK TITLE DEEDS FOR TRADERS

LUSAKA MARKET UNION HAILS HH, URGES QUICK TITLE DEEDS FOR TRADERS

By Timmy

The Lusaka Union of Market Cooperatives has commended President Hakainde Hichilema and the New Dawn Government for fostering peace, inclusivity, and renewed confidence in the country’s trading spaces.

Union leaders noted that the administration’s people-centered policies have restored order in markets, safeguarding the livelihoods of thousands of families dependent on small-scale trading.

“The President has shown genuine commitment to protecting marketeers and ensuring markets remain safe and inclusive for all,” the Union said in a statement after a stakeholders’ meeting.

The Union further praised the government’s expansion of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), which they said is already yielding tangible benefits through the construction of new trading shelters, community projects, and empowerment programs that uplift traders.

At the same time, the Union appealed to government to expedite the issuance of title deeds for market stalls, stressing that legal ownership would provide long-term stability and give traders the confidence to expand their businesses.

Looking ahead, the Union revealed plans to embrace modernization through Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) aimed at building multi-story, modern markets to decongest Lusaka and reduce street vending.

The Union also called on institutions such as the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development (MSMED) and the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) to strengthen trader empowerment through targeted loans and the revival of market booster facilities.

On energy challenges, traders acknowledged President Hichilema’s directive to install diesel generators in markets during load-shedding as a timely intervention that protected their businesses. They, however, urged for sustainable solutions such as solar energy and individual stall meters to ease the burden of high ZESCO bills.

Meanwhile, UPND Lusaka Province Chairperson Anderson Banda reaffirmed the party’s support to marketeers, assuring them that the New Dawn Government will not allow unfair displacements and will continue prioritizing market infrastructure. He emphasized that President Hichilema is committed to maintaining open dialogue with cooperatives and traders.

The Union concluded by expressing gratitude to the Head of State and the New Dawn Government, describing their leadership as a source of “renewed hope and stability” for the country’s marketeers.

Lilongwe Prophetess and 3 Followers Arrested for Allegedly Holding Mentally Ill Man, Claiming He Was ‘Raised from the Dead’

Police in Lilongwe have arrested self-proclaimed prophetess Zelesi Divason and three of his followers for allegedly detaining a mentally ill young man under false pretenses of resurrecting him from the dead.

Central West Region Police Deputy Spokesperson Foster Benjamin confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects convinced a grieving mother, Mary Chelewani, that her son who died in 2023 had been resurrected and returned to her.

According to Benjamin, Chelewani reported seeing a young man in Area 36 who resembled her deceased son. She took him to Divason, who fraudulently confirmed the man was indeed her resurrected child, despite clear physical differences.

“Although the young man looked nothing like Chelewani’s late son, Prophet Divason assured her it was him and that he had risen from the dead,” Benjamin said. “He instructed her to keep the man and pray daily for his face to transform to match her son’s original appearance.”

Days later, another woman reported her 27-year-old son missing to Area 36 Police Station and identified the detained individual as her child.

Divason, 40, and his associates Emily Chanunkha (35), Konsolata Osikala (46), and Flora Gamulani (42) have been charged with concealing a kidnapped person and personation (impersonation) under Section 264 of Malawi’s Penal Code.

This incident follows similar arrests in Mchinji and Area 36, where individuals have also been accused of falsely claiming to resurrect the dead and exploiting vulnerable families.

Police have warned the public to be cautious of fraudulent religious leaders and to report suspicious activities to authorities.

In the video, the pastor is seen on his knees as he offers the ring to the lady who accepts it without hesitation.

Zimbabwe MP Wants Mandatory DNA Testing At Birth, Says Law Will Protect Women

Zimbabwe MP Pushes For Mandatory DNA Tests At Birth To Curb Violence
A Zimbabwean female Member of Parliament has called for a new law to make DNA testing mandatory at birth. She says the law is necessary to prevent violence against women.

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) MP Bridget Nyandoro, who is the legislator for Southerton Constituency, announced her plans at a gender-based violence symposium in Harare on August 27, 2025. She stated she will soon bring a motion before parliament to argue her case. Her call comes just weeks after a prominent opposition leader made a similar suggestion.

MP Says Motion Will Mitigate Gender-Based Violence
Addressing the symposium, Nyandoro acknowledged her motion would be controversial. However, she argued it is a vital step to protect women from extreme violence linked to paternity fraud. She connected the issue directly to the country’s femicide crisis.

“I am going to move a motion in Parliament to have mandatory DNA testing at birth. I know it is not going to be a favourable one, but I believe it will go a long way in mitigating the effects of gender-based violence,” Hon. Nyandoro told the audience.

“Many times, we have seen women being killed after 22 years when someone discovers they have been taking care of a child who is not theirs.”

The MP also highlighted the profound impact on children who later discover the man they call father is not their biological parent. She stated mandatory testing at birth would prevent this trauma, shielding children from long-term mental health challenges.

New Data Reveals Shocking Paternity Test Results
The MP’s proposal is supported by startling new statistics from a local DNA testing firm. Global DNA Zimbabwe has reported that an overwhelming majority of tests they conduct return a negative result.

Partners Chiriseri from Global DNA Zimbabwe provided the figures in an interview with HealthTimes. He explained the stark reality for many men who seek clarity.

“The current statistics for people who have undergone testing are both shocking and interesting. Most clients come for paternity tests, and currently, 72% of the results issued are negative, while only 28% are positive,” said Chiriseri.

He clarified that paternity tests offer absolute certainty, with results showing either a 0% or a 99.99% probability of paternity. The data suggests a significant number of Zimbabwean men are raising children they mistakenly believe are their biological offspring.

Opposition Leader Backs Controversial Call
Hon. Nyandoro is not alone in her controversial stance. A few weeks before her announcement, opposition leader and former presidential candidate Linda Masarira also called for mandatory paternity testing. Masarira described the practice of misleading men over paternity as a form of deception.

“This might be an unpopular opinion with many of my sisters, but it must be said. Far too often, we see situations where women are forcing, manipulating, or even blackmailing men into taking care of children from previous relationships or marriages—children who are not biologically theirs,” Masarira stated.

“This is unfair. It places a heavy and unnecessary burden on men, both financially and emotionally. It is also a form of deception that erodes trust, dignity, and mental health.”

The converging opinions from two different female political figures indicate a growing movement. They are pushing for a legislative solution to an issue they say devastates families and endangers women’s lives. The motion is expected to be presented to the Zimbabwean parliament in the coming months.
