SIMUUWE COMMENDS SOLAR PROJECT AS A MILESTONE FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH

July 1,2025

United Party for National Development (UPND) Media Director Mark Simuuwe has applauded the government’s continued commitment to economic transformation through renewable energy investment.

Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka, Mr. Simuuwe described the commissioning of the 100-megawatt solar power plant in Chisamba as a bold step towards sustainable development.

He stated that the project is already creating jobs for both skilled and unskilled workers, contributing to national income and household livelihoods.

Mr. Simuuwe noted that increased electricity generation will boost tax revenue and help fund key programs like the free education policy.

He praised President Hakainde Hichilema’s directive to retain much of the power in Central Province, saying it will drive local economic empowerment.

The UPND Media Director also emphasized that the government’s energy reforms are not just about infrastructure, but about changing lives.

He cited Bloomberg’s projection of 6% economic growth and Zambia’s recognition as having the best-performing currency in the world.

Mr. Simuuwe urged commercial banks to lower interest rates to align with the improved macroeconomic environment and support business expansion.

He also condemned the delay in repatriating former President Edgar Lungu’s body, calling it a blow to Zambia’s dignity and sovereignty.

Mr. Simuuwe concluded by reaffirming the UPND’s commitment to inclusive development, social justice, and delivering real progress for the Zambian people.

HON. MULAMBO HAIMBE LEADS ZAMBIA-EU PUSH FOR GLOBAL FINANCIAL REFORM AT SEVILLE SUMMIT

By Dennis Sikazwe Jr

Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, is leading a high-level delegation at the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4) in Seville, Spain, where Zambia and the European Union have emerged as key voices calling for urgent global financial reform.

Speaking on behalf of Zambia, Hon. Haimbe has been instrumental in shaping discussions around debt relief, domestic resource mobilisation, and inclusive financial systems that work for developing nations. The minister emphasised the importance of equitable global partnerships in addressing the widening development financing gap.

“The current financial architecture is no longer fit for purpose. We must work together to build systems that are inclusive, transparent, and capable of delivering real impact for our people,” Hon. Haimbe told delegates.

Zambia’s collaboration with the EU at FFD4 reflects a growing strategic partnership grounded in shared values of sustainability, equity, and mutual accountability. The European Union, a global development leader, reaffirmed its long-standing commitment by:

* Contributing 42% of global development aid in 2023
* Mobilising €179 billion under the Global Gateway initiative, with a €300 billion target by 2027

This year’s FFD4 conference takes place against the backdrop of a global financing shortfall of more than US\$4 trillion needed annually to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Zambia’s presence and strong engagement underscore its determination to influence the global development agenda.

As discussions continue, the active leadership of Hon. Haimbe positions Zambia as a credible voice in the push for a fairer, more resilient international financial system one that delivers tangible progress for developing countries across Africa and beyond.

HICHILEMA HAS TURNED ZAMBIA INTO A LAUGHING STOCK OVER LUNGU’S BURIAL- Fred M’membe

HICHILEMA HAS TURNED ZAMBIA INTO A LAUGHING STOCK OVER LUNGU’S BURIAL

We have noted with great concern the attempts by Mr Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND to mobilize individuals and their praise singers in an effort to shift blame for the ongoing impasse regarding the burial of Zambia’s Sixth Republican President, Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

It is shocking that instead of owning up to their role in this national embarrassment, this administration is seeking to falsely attribute the pain and suffering of the widow, Mrs. Esther Lungu and the Lungu family to political actors, when in reality, the fault lies squarely with Mr Hichilema and his league. Instead of blaming politicians, let’s point to the problem directly so that we can begin to find a lasting solution.

It is so dishonest for the UPND to suggest that only the government and the family should be involved in the burial negotiations when they are the very ones who undermined the agreement through insincerity and duplicity. The cancellation in the repatriation of Mr Lungu’s mortal remains and the breakdown in talks was not accidental, nor was it influenced by any political actors. It was purely a direct result of their attempt to breach the agreed position in order to manipulate and dominate the funeral proceedings. Even when the family was clear that it was the deceased’s wish that Mr Hichilema should never be anywhere near his body. The nation must ask: who is responsible for this impasse? The answer is simple: Mr. Hichilema and his government! Their arrogance and lack of empathy have led us into this crisis.

It is the worst form of hypocrisy for the UPND to express sympathy toward Mrs. Lungu and her family, while they were the same people who revoked Mr Lungu’s retirement benefits, subjected him, by his own account, to a state of virtual house arrest, and denied him access to specialist medical care abroad. But now they want the nation to turn its sympathy toward Mr. Hichilema? How ironic. When they were persecuting Mr Lungu, what did they expect the outcome would be? These are self-inflicted problems born out of vindictiveness, pettiness, and immaturity in leadership.

We have consistently stated that Mr Hichilema’s leadership is characterised by alarming levels of refusal to take responsibility. His instinct is always to play victim or blame others and never to self introspect.

We have said it before that it is evident that many of the crises the country faces today are a direct consequence of this lack of leadership.

We urge Mr Hichilema to stop the blame game. Leadership demands accountability. Let him know that when one continually blames others, one forfeits the ability and authority to change course. Mr. Hichilema must rise to the occasion and accept full responsibility for this debacle.

Without a doubt, the failure to accord Mr Lungu, a dignified and honourable burial in the land of his ancestors, lies squarely at the feet of Mr. Hichilema and his administration.

We felt the same pain but we chose to compromise, Kaweeche tells Lungu family

ZAMBIA’S founding president Kenneth Kaunda’s son, Kaweche says he fully understands the pain the Lungu family is going through, because his own family faced the same heartache when the government buried their father, Kenneth Kaunda, at Embassy Park against his personal wishes.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1CGAPNa44s/?mibextid=oFDknk

Appearing on ZNBC’S Sunday Interview,  Kaweche called on the former first family to compromise with government for the sake of unity, just like the Kaunda family did in 2021.

He explained that although they were hurt and disagreed with the government’s decision to bury Kaunda at a site he never wanted, they accepted the outcome because the majority of Zambians felt he belonged at Embassy Park as a symbol of national heritage.

He said burying a president is a difficult journey few Zambian families have experienced, and it comes with emotional weight, but also responsibility.

“Only six of us in this population of 20 million or so, only six families have been through this. So I can understand the hurt that the Lungu family are going through. We went through it but you must compromise with government, which is what we did,” Kaweche said.

“We did not just get bullied and government did not take that approach. Neither did we remain stubborn and say we are unmovable but we made our opinions felt and our feelings felt”

The former first son recalled how he  tried to stop the burial through the courts but chose not to fight on after realising the public’s strong feelings.

Drawing from that experience, he called on the family of former President Edgar Lungu to also put the country first amid growing calls for the former president’s return and a dignified resolution to his current absence from public life…https://kalemba.news/local/we-felt-the-same-pain-but-we-chose-to-compromise-kaweeche-tells-lungu-family/

Constitutional Court Declares Bill No. 7 of 2025 a Nullity: LAZ Calls for People-Driven Reforms.

Constitutional Court Declares Bill No. 7 of 2025 a Nullity: LAZ Calls for People-Driven Reforms.

The Constitutional Court has ruled that the Constitution Amendment Bill No. 7 of 2025 is a legal nullity, citing its failure to meet the constitutional requirement of wide public consultation. The landmark judgment, delivered on 27 June 2025 in the case of Munir Zulu and Celestine Mukandila v. Attorney General (2025/CCZ/009), has triggered strong reactions and guidance from the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ).

According to the Constitutional Court, the government’s move to initiate constitutional amendments without first conducting broad-based public consultations violated several provisions of the Zambian Constitution, including Articles 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 9, 61, 90, 91, and 92. The Court stressed that the people not the Executive or Legislature are the principal owners of the Constitution and must drive any amendment process.

In response to the ruling, LAZ has issued a detailed press statement, cautioning the government against proceeding with any further constitutional reforms that are not people-led. The Association emphasized that any legitimate amendment process must be preceded by “tangible and visible” consultations and led by an independent committee of experts.

“The people are the owners of the decision to do away with or introduce a provision in the Constitution,” LAZ stated, supporting the Court’s assertion that the role of the Executive and Legislature is merely to facilitate not initiate such amendments. The judgment likened the failed process to an attempt to bypass the will of the people, undermining democratic principles and constitutionalism.

The Court recommended a return to frameworks similar to the previous Technical Committee on Drafting the Zambian Constitution, arguing that only a thorough, structured, and participatory national engagement process can grant legitimacy to constitutional amendments. Such engagement, the Court said, must include district, provincial, and national-level discussions before progressing to the formal process outlined in Article 79 of the Constitution.

Given the judgment, LAZ stated unequivocally that Bill No. 7 of 2025 is null and void. Although it has been deferred in Parliament, it cannot be relied upon as a foundation for future reforms. The Association urged government officials to halt any further constitutional amendment attempts until after the 2026 general elections.

“We recommend the postponement of all constitutional reform efforts to allow for a holistic, inclusive, and people-driven process,” said LAZ President Lungisani Zulu in the statement. He further advised that any future reforms should also aim to expand the Bill of Rights, particularly to include economic and social rights, and should enjoy broad consensus from political players and stakeholders.

LAZ also raised fiscal concerns, warning that undertaking such an extensive process so close to an election could place unnecessary strain on an already burdened national budget. “The financial impact of constitutional changes must be carefully weighed against the country’s competing development priorities,” the statement read.

The Association concluded that any further attempts to amend the Constitution must reflect the Court’s guidance and be rooted in democratic values, transparency, and broad-based participation. LAZ emphasized that it remains committed to defending the rule of law and safeguarding constitutional integrity, in line with its statutory mandate under Section 4 of the Law Association of Zambia Act.

This judgment is seen by many legal analysts and civil society actors as a significant milestone in reaffirming the supremacy of the Constitution and the central role of citizens in shaping the nation’s legal and democratic framework.

I belong not only to my family, but to all Zambians – Hichilema

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says he is aware that the day he became President was the day he belonged to all Zambians and not only his family.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/127xx62PwFB/?mibextid=oFDknk

President Hichilema said this in relation to the current impasse surrounding the death of former president Edgar Lungu whose family has refused to have him buried in Zambia.

The President reiterated that government remained committed to ensuring that Lungu’s body is repatriated to his homeland as he did not only belong to his family but to the people of Zambia.

He said this in response to Central Province traditional leaders who revealed that it was their desire to have the late former president laid to rest in his country.

“Your desire is the desire of the majority, that the sixth president is buried here, in his land of birth.”

“Once you become a chief, you are no longer just a family asset, you are an asset of the whole chiefdom. The presidency is even worse. I’m aware, the day I chose to be elected and became a president, I knew that now I’m no longer the Hichilema family asset. I was an asset of the people of Central Province, all the provinces, 20 million of them,” said President Hichilema.

He added that Zambia was the only country the late former president knew as his home.

The Head of State said this yesterday when he engaged with 23 traditional leaders from Central Pronvince.

“We don’t know any other country that our sixth president calls home, all our presidents are buried here and it is a choice the Zambian people made. When we live, we have issues even with our wives and our children but when we die, first, we bury and after burial we can talk about our issues,” he said.

And Central Province chiefs represented by Chief Shaibila encouraged the President to continue engaging with the Lungu family so that the former President’s body can be repatriated to Zambia.

Chief Shaibila further applauded the President for his peaceful nature even in times of trials and urged him to continue uniting the country.

“We want you to continue fostering peace and unity among our citizens. Work towards creating an environment where every citizen feels valued,” said Chief Shaibila…https://kalemba.news/politics/i-belong-not-only-to-my-family-but-to-all-zambians-hichilema/

UPND’S FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION BELOW AVERAGE AND VERY DISAPPOINTING

UPND’S FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION BELOW AVERAGE AND VERY DISAPPOINTING

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

The Community Action Against Corruption (CAC) has issued a sharp critique of the government’s anti-corruption efforts, describing its performance over the past four years as below average and very disappointing.

CAC Executive Director Brighton Tembo said the organization’s assessment was based on a pattern of inaction and selective enforcement.

He pointed to the continued presence of high-ranking officials under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), arguing that failure to suspend or place them on leave compromises the integrity of investigations and invites interference.

Mr. Tembo also cited unresolved cases, including alleged corruption at the State Chambers, irregular allowances at the Ministry of Finance, and stalled probes involving cabinet ministers.

He expressed concern that despite damning Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) reports exposing illicit financial flows, the ACC has failed to act on them for over two years.

He further accused the ACC and other oversight bodies of exhibiting bias pursuing cases linked to the previous administration while allegedly turning a blind eye to emerging corruption within the current regime.

Mr. Tembo said this approach undermines public trust and signals hypocrisy in the fight against corruption, adding that the government’s actions reflect a lack of genuine political will to tackle graft across the board.

“TEENS FORCED TO TRADE BODIES FOR BREAD…..A deep look into kafue

“TEENS FORCED TO TRADE BODIES FOR BREAD.
…………A deep look into kafue

A growing crisis is gripping Kafue’s Zambia Compound and Mtendere residential areas as increasing numbers of teenagers, both girls and boys, are being drawn into prostitution and substance abuse.

Community members and local leaders are raising alarm bells, pointing directly to the rising cost of living as the key driver behind this disturbing trend.

In recent months, Zambia’s economic pressure has intensified for ordinary families. The price of essential commodities such as mealie-meal, cooking oil, and soap has soared, leaving many households struggling to meet their basic needs. With most families living hand-to-mouth, teenage children are increasingly forced to fend for themselves often in dangerous and exploitative ways.

For many girls, prostitution has become a last resort for survival. According to residents, some girls as young as 14 are now seen soliciting truck drivers and passersby in Kafue’s central business district. Their clients offer small sums of money or even basic goods such as food, toiletries, or sanitary pads items their families can no longer afford consistently.

Astridah Phiri, a mother of three and long-time resident of Zambia Compound, expressed deep concern over what she described as a “quiet emergency” in the community. “Parents aren’t sending their children into prostitution they’re sending them to sell sweets or water in town to help the household. But the streets have changed. Older men manipulate these girls, and before long, they’re doing it for survival,” she said.

The economic reality has also pushed many teenagers out of school. With the cost of uniforms, transport, books, and even lunch proving too much for struggling families, some adolescents drop out entirely. Without education or daily structure, they are more likely to turn to risky behaviors, influenced by peers facing the same hopelessness.

For boys, the pressures manifest differently. Many resort to street hustling, theft, or joining gangs in a desperate bid to earn money. With no formal employment options and nothing to fall back on, substance abuse becomes both an escape and a coping mechanism. Glue-sniffing, codeine use, and alcohol have become disturbingly common in the area.

Miriam Hakachima, another resident, noted that families are under extreme emotional and financial strain. “The cost of living has broken many homes. Parents are frustrated and tired. They can’t supervise their children all the time, especially when there’s no food in the house. The kids feel the pressure and start looking for a way out,” she explained.

According to community members, this isn’t just a moral issue it’s a structural economic problem. Most of the families in Zambia Compound and Mtendere are unemployed or rely on informal trading, which is itself affected by inflation and inconsistent demand. When prices rise but incomes remain static or disappear altogether, it’s the children who suffer the most.

The lack of access to affordable healthcare and social services exacerbates the crisis. Teenage girls involved in transactional sex often face health risks like HIV, STIs, and early pregnancies yet many do not seek medical attention due to stigma or lack of money. Drug-using teens also go without rehabilitation or counseling, deepening their dependence and social isolation.

Gabriel Simfukwe, a community elder, warned that seasonal income cycles may intensify the problem. “When the sugarcane harvest ends and people have a bit of money, we see more alcohol, more parties, and more girls getting picked up by men with money. That’s when exploitation spikes and crime too,” he said.

Residents are calling for urgent government intervention focused not just on policing but on addressing economic vulnerability. They propose measures such as youth empowerment programs, free or subsidized school meals, community counseling services, and provision of essential goods to teenage girls, including sanitary pads and hygiene products.

But while community efforts matter, many stress that long-term change must come from national-level policies that stabilize food prices, increase access to free education, and create employment for parents. Without these broader reforms, the local interventions may only offer temporary relief to a worsening crisis.

The cost of living is no longer just a matter of economics it has become a public health and safety issue, with teenagers bearing the brunt. Unless urgent action is taken, Zambia risks losing a generation of youth to poverty, addiction, and exploitation. Kafue is a warning sign of what may happen in many parts of the country if the root causes are not addressed.

ON THE UNLAWFUL BURDEN PLACED ON THE FAMILY OF THE LATE PRESIDENT EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU- Rev. Dr. Kelvin Mugala

ON THE UNLAWFUL BURDEN PLACED ON THE FAMILY OF THE LATE PRESIDENT EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU

Issued by Rev. Dr. Kelvin Mugala – Advocate for Constitutional Rights and National Dignity
Date: 30th June 2025

We wish to raise grave concern over the ongoing legal and financial injustice being suffered by the family of the late Sixth Republican President, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, whose remains remain unburied in a foreign land due to the actions of the Zambian Government.

Following the filing of an urgent court application in South Africa by the Zambian Attorney General, which effectively blocked the scheduled burial of President Lungu, the body has remained in the mortuary under tight conditions. This delay has resulted in significant expenses, including:

Daily mortuary preservation and refrigeration charges,

Security and body monitoring services,

Legal representation for the family in the South African courts,

Accommodation, transport, and administrative costs for the grieving family.

These escalating costs are not the fault of the family, but the direct consequence of a legal action taken by the Zambian government.

We wish to remind the nation that under the Benefits of Former Presidents Act, a former Head of State is entitled to a State Funeral at the expense of the Republic of Zambia. The Constitution of Zambia and prevailing statutes do not grant the government the liberty to selectively honor or deny these entitlements based on political convenience.

As such, it is a matter of both constitutional obligation and national dignity that the State assumes full responsibility for all costs arising from the current delay, including those being incurred abroad.

We categorically reject any attempt to financially or emotionally punish the family of President Lungu for standing by his final wishes. Furthermore, we call on the government to:

1. Immediately account for its actions in the South African court;

2. Publicly accept responsibility for all costs incurred as a result of the injunction;

3. Re-engage the family in good faith to facilitate a dignified and respectful resolution.

President Lungu served this country as Commander-in-Chief and Head of State. His death should not be politicized or turned into a legal and financial battlefield. A nation that dishonors its former leaders dishonors its own future.

Let justice, compassion, and the rule of law prevail.

2. In the judgement of the Munir Zulu, Celestine Mukandila & the AG case on whether or not the Constitutiton of Zambia should be  bruised in favour of HH & UPND or NOT, it was 3-3 For or Against on the bench. As President of the Constitution Court she was to cast the deciding Vote ️. Between HH or Zambia  (22M Zambians), she chose to cast for Zambians and rejected the Bill 7.

She is second to none and reminds of me of the retired Judge Wood. No political arm twisting games away them into a judgement. She is always guided by Laws, Judiciary Rules and the Constitution of Zambia.

Well done learned Judge. Posterity will always applaud your name.
Hope some day sooner we can name a road, University plus  ZIALE to the noble name Judge Margaret Munalula.

Over 300 headmen in Monze District have endorsed the candidature of Jack Mwimbu for the 2026 general election.

Speaking on behalf of the headmen, George Mwiinga, Senior Headman  Hakanseke, said the traditional leaders have endorsed Jack Mwimbu because he is the right leader for Monze Central Constituency.

Headman Hakanseke said Monze residents should not make the mistake of entrusting leadership to people who have not suffered for the party and have no proper background in the district.

The headmen said they have resolved to continue with Jack Mwimbu and the UPND administration because of the massive development in the district, especially the construction of schools, health posts, and the rehabilitation of township roads.

The Traditional leaders said they have no reason not to support Jack Mwimbu, especially since he has demonstrated leadership and the ability to propel development to great heights in Monze Central Constituency.

Meanwhile, Headman Peter Hamutinta, who is Headman Mujazyaliso, said that another term for Jack Mwimbu will mean a full resuscitation of Monze Constituency’s economic development.

ZAMBIA IGNITES SOLAR REVOLUTION: PRESIDENT HICHILEMA UNVEILS CHISAMBA POWER PLANT

ZAMBIA IGNITES SOLAR REVOLUTION: PRESIDENT HICHILEMA UNVEILS CHISAMBA POWER PLANT

By Wagon Media Team

Chisamba | Central Province

In a defining moment for Zambia’s energy future, President Hakainde Hichilema has commissioned the 100-megawatt Chisamba Solar Plant in Central Province, signaling a major step toward renewable energy and away from the country’s traditional dependence on hydroelectric power.

The project, which is the largest solar facility ever commissioned in Zambia, was completed in just ten months and stands as a powerful testament to the government’s commitment to clean, sustainable energy. Addressing the crowd at the launch, President Hichilema described the plant as a strategic move to protect the nation from the effects of climate change, especially prolonged droughts that have strained hydroelectric output in recent years.

He thanked Chief Chamuka for the land made available for the project and applauded the collaboration between Power China, Kariba North Bank, ZESCO, and Stanbic Bank in successfully delivering the plant. The President further announced that Phase Two of the solar project is scheduled to begin in July 2025 and will add another 100 megawatts to the grid. With key infrastructure like transmission lines already in place, the second phase is expected to be completed at a reduced cost.

President Hichilema called on ZESCO to ensure that local industries in Chisamba benefit from the power generated, urging the utility to direct a portion of the electricity to support economic activities and job creation in the area. He also encouraged the local community to take pride in the project and guard it as a national asset.

The Minister of Energy, Mr. Makozo Chikote, hailed the project as a symbol of the government’s visionary leadership and proof that Zambia is serious about its energy transition. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s resolve to continue scaling up investment in renewables to enhance energy security and drive inclusive development.

ZESCO Managing Director Mr. Justin Loongo echoed the President’s sentiments, stating that the successful completion of the Chisamba plant demonstrates what is possible when there is unity of purpose and political will. He revealed that similar solar initiatives are planned for Serenje, Kafue Gorge, and Choma in the coming months.

Chisamba Member of Parliament, Ms. Chushi Kasanda, praised the government’s inclusive development agenda and pointed to the ripple effects of improved energy access on education and agriculture in her constituency. Central Province Minister, Mr. Mwabashike Nkulukusa, also commended the project, stating that it has placed the province on a firm path toward industrial growth and economic stability.

The commissioning of the Chisamba Solar Plant signals Zambia’s determination to lead in green energy investment and sets the stage for the country to become a regional power exporter in the near future. Under the leadership of President Hichilema, Zambia is not only powering homes and industries—it is powering progress.

GRIZZLY MINING AND PRIDEGEMS MINES SUED

GRIZZLY MINING AND PRIDEGEMS MINES SUED

GRIZZLY Mining Limited and Pridegems Mines Limited have been sued in the Lusaka High Court for allegedly trespassing on Chuvumbwe Mining Limited’s licenced exploration area for Beryllium, Emerald and Quartz.

Chuvumbwe Mining is seeking an injunction to restrain the two mining firms, their servants, agents, or any individuals acting under their authority from continuing to trespass, enter, occupy, or conduct any unauthorised activities including mining and water pumping within the area covered by Small Scale Exploration Licence No. 38563-HQ-SEL.

The company is also seeking damages for trespass to be assessed by the court, an order for the removal of all equipment, structures, and materials introduced by the defendants and costs of the action,

According to the statement of claim, Chuvumbwe Mining Limited is a company incorporated on August 18, 2007, with its registered office in Livingstone.

Chuvumbwe Minining stated that it is the lawful holder of Small Scale Exploration Licence No. 38563-HQ-SEL, which grants it exclusive rights to explore for Beryllium, Emerald and Quartz.

The licence is valid for four years, commencing on September 18, 2024. Additionally, the company holds a Pegging Certificate issued in November 2024, bearing Diagram No. 20169/24, which defines the geographical extent of the licence area located in Lufwanyama on the Copperbelt.

Chuvumbwe claimed that on November 25, 2024, it obtained consent from the royal establishment of Chief Nkana VII, based at Chindalo Chamwengo Palace in Kalulushi, to conduct operations consistent with the licence within the boundaries of the chiefdom, as represented in Diagram No. 20169/24.

On or about May 10, 2025, the company engaged A & A Geospatial Consultants to carry out a routine drone survey to verify the licence boundaries and collect high-resolution mapping data for planning and operational purposes.

During the survey, the consultants allegedly observed active and unauthorised mining and water-pumping operations being conducted within the licensed area.

Chuvumbwe Mining claimed that two days later, on May 12, 2025, its personnel stationed in the area confronted workers believed to be employees, servants, or agents of Grizzly Mining and Pridegems Mines Limited.

Fake Estate Agent Convicted

Fake Estate Agent Convicted

By Dickson Jere

Fred Phiri runs Malo Real Estates – an agency that help so clients in buying and selling properties as well as getting tenants and landlords in rental deals. His firm is not registered with the Zambia Institute of Real Estate Agency (ZIEA) – a statutory body that regulates the estate agents in Zambia.

As the business was booming, the ZIEA reported this firm to the police for practicing illegally. In no time, the police officers swung in action and arrested Phiri and his staff members. After interrogation, the police released the workers and arrested the boss.

He appeared before the Lusaka Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty of practicing as a real estate agent without a license from ZIEA.

“Accused person was interviewed, charged and arrested for the subject offence under warn and caution statement in English (and)he gave a free an voluntarily reply admitting the charge,” the Statement of Facts read.

“Accused person had no lawful justification for his conduct,” the statement further read.

Upon his admission, the Magistrate convicted him of the offence and fined him ZMW10,000.00 or face four months imprisonment.

Case citation – The People v Fred Phiri – NPA Case No D-6858/10-2024 and Judgement delivered on the 23rd June, 2025.

Lecture Notes;

1. Since 2000, Parliament passed a law -Estates Agents Act No. 21 – that proscribes people who act as estate agents without being registered with ZIEA. Even though ZIEA had spent more time to sensitize members of the public, they have now moved in and started arresting and prosecuting unregistered agents. So, if you are in this business, kindly familiarize yourself with the law and register.

2. ZIEA have different categories of membership. I understand they conduct training and exams for admission to membership. They want to bring sanity in sector including stopping those who collect “viewing fees” from unsuspecting members of the public.

3. My take about this issue is that every sector and profession is now getting into “protective” mood and making it stiff for unregistered to partake. Go back to school, get the credentials and register in your respective professions.

Slain soldier’s wife sidelined at late husband’s funeral; friend imposes her on tributes to hubby

Slain soldier’s wife sidelined at late husband’s funeral; friend imposes her on tributes to hubby

DESPITE being present at the house of mourning from the time the news of Corporal Stephen Sakachoma was received, Mwenya has been kept at a distance and has not been regarded as the chief mourner, throughout the funeral program, instead, the deceased’s parents and siblings have.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1HiDLaG8r7/
Sources close to the situation share with TV Yatu that, when the funeral program was drawn, it was noted that there was no mention of Mwenya, the deceased’s supposed wife. This prompted elders to convene a meeting and consult each other on why such an omission was made.

The sources say that, they were told it was an earnest accidental omission.

With this, they hoped it could be rectified. It however was shared in church today, with the very grave omission concern was raised.

From this, the sources say they began connecting dots thereby landing them on a conclusion that it was a strategic and systematic way of sidelining Mwenya from fully participating in mourning her dearly departed husband for reasons said needed clarification.

During today’s funeral church service held at Army Chapel in Lusaka, all to give tributes were mentioned to the exclusion of Mwenya. When her friend realized this, she quickly rushed to the stage with children and delivered Mwenya’s tribute to her husband.

On arrival at the Leopard’s Hill Memorial Park for the burial of her late husband, Mwenya sat in a tent with her relatives and friend and their children.

When it was time to lay wreaths, two of Sakachoma’s three children who were present, were called to lay wreaths. Mwenya was not called, and so she remained seated in the tent.

When her son received his father’s medal and flag from the United Nations – UN, he walked straight back to his mother Mwenya, and handed her the flag.

The official program did not recognize her, despite having been present.

Corporal Stephen Sakachoma was laid to rest this afternoon at Leopards Hill Memorial Park.

And according to the Army, Sakachoma died the same day he was shot during routine United Nations’ – UN patrols in the Central African Republic – C.A.R.

Trump says Elon Musk would go broke and return to South Africa without US govt subsidies for his businesses

BREAKING: Trump says Elon Musk would go broke and return to South Africa without US government subsidies for his businesses

Elon Musk has stepped up his attacks on Donald Trump’s sweeping tax and spending bill – weeks after a spectacular fallout between the world’s richest man and the US president.

Following weeks of relative silence after clashing with Mr Trump over his “big beautiful bill”, the billionaire vowed to unseat politicians who support it.

In a post on X, Musk said those who had campaigned on cutting spending but then backed the bill “should hang their heads in shame”.

He added: “And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.”

Musk also threatened to put their faces on a poster which said “liar” and “voted to increase America’s debt” by $5trn (£3.6trn).

The posts attracted a swift reply from Mr Trump, who claimed the billionaire “may get more subsidy than any human being in history” for his electric car business.

“Without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa,” he wrote on Truth Social.

“No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!”

Musk spent at least $250m (£182m) supporting Mr Trump in his presidential campaign and then led the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which sacked about 120,000 federal employees.

But, in reponse, US President Donald Trump has reiterated his strong opposition to the Electric Vehicle (EV) Mandate, calling it “ridiculous.” He asserted that Elon Musk was aware of his stance long before endorsing him.

Trump also heavily criticized the government subsidies received by Elon Musk’s companies, suggesting that without them, Musk would be forced to shut down operations and return to South Africa, ending rocket launches and EV production.

He stated that terminating these subsidies would save the US “BIG MONEY” and humorously suggested that “DOGE” (likely referring to his “Department of Government Efficiency” initiative, which shares the acronym with Dogecoin) should investigate the matter.

He writes:

Elon Musk knew, long before he so strongly Endorsed me for President, that I was strongly against the EV Mandate.

It is ridiculous, and was always a major part of my campaign. Electric cars are fine, but not everyone should be forced to own one.

Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa.

No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!

Bizarre! A 70-year-old Ugandan granny Safiina Namukwaya gives birth to twins

Extraordinary! A70 year old granny in Uganda has given birth to twins.

Hailing from the Masaka District, Ms Safiina Namukwaya underwent In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) under the supervision of Dr Edward Sali, performed at the Women’s Hospital International Fertility Centre.

Prior to admittance into the labour room, Ms Namukwaya conveyed her hope in receiving a favourable outcome, stating that a colleague had given her the confidence that she would eventually have a child through the procedure.

Not in her wildest dreams did she ever want to carry a set of twins at her current age, even if a boy and a girl complete the bundle.

She is aware of the surprise it has brought, yet she explains with insistence that carrying twins never crossed her mind.

According to biology, women usually experience menopause between the ages of 45 to 55 which indicates the end of their reproductive phase, as stated by the World Health Organisation. Ms Namukwaya expresses that her companion has not visited her as he disapproves of the notion of a woman carrying twins.

However, Dr Sali has taken care of all the necessary arrangements.

Namukwaya attributes her decision to conceive to the bitter taunts she received because of her childless status.

As she watched the joy of other couples experiencing parenthood and knowing that she had helped care for their children as they grew and went off into the world, she knew that she too would like to enjoy motherhood.

She says that the yearning to have a child at her old age has always been her dream.

She recalls when a young boy mocked her, insinuating that her mother had cursed her to stay barren and grow old, unloved and alone.

In 1992, Mrs. Namukwaya lost her husband and she suffered a miscarriage during her marriage.

After four years, she entered another relationship but faced the emotional obstacles of not being able to conceive.

When asked how she’ll cope up with fending for the babies, she responds humbly, saying, “To be honest, I have no idea. All I know is that God holds everything in his hands. Sometimes it gets overwhelming tending to one child alone, but now I have been blessed with twins although my health is in poor condition.

“Without having the energy to sustain food for survival, I hardly feel confident. However, people seem to vouch that every baby brings blessings and I have faith in that.”

Thomas was the owner of a Detroit-based car wash named Showroom Shine Express. He was also a licensed professional National Hot Rod Association race car driver.

“He would do anything for anybody,” Perry said. “He just had a different kind of heart. You don’t meet people like that nowadays.”

Perry also shared a video of the helicopter dropping the cash and Rose petals. “Them boys SHUT Gratiot down on both sides dropped a light five bands & rose petals out the helicopter for my uncle P. A Eastside Legend,” she captioned.

VIDEO: A hero dad jumped overboard to save his daughter after she fell from a Disney Dream cruise ship into the Atlantic Ocean

A hero dad jumped overboard to save his daughter after she fell from a Disney Dream cruise ship into the Atlantic Ocean on Sunday.

The Disney Dream ship was returning to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Sunday, June 29, after a four-night cruise in the Bahamas and made a stop at Disney’s private island, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, when the incident took place, Newsweek and USA Today reported, citing Disney officials.

“The Crew aboard the Disney Dream swiftly rescued two guests from the water,” Disney Cruise Line said in a statement, per USA Today. “We commend our crew members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes.”

According to the Disney Dream Criuse Ship Facebook Group, the girl fell overboard from the fourth deck of the ship, and a man identified as her father then jumped in after her.

“Her dad went in after her,” passenger Kevin Furuta wrote. “Right after the incident, we heard on the loudspeaker, ‘MOB [Man overboard] Port side!! Thankfully, the DCL rescue team was on it immediately and both were saved!”

“A little girl fell overboard and her father jumped in to save her … apparently the dad sat her on the railing!” passenger Mary Ann Sutherland added in a separate post on Facebook.

The man was able to keep the girl afloat while treading water for around 20 minutes before cruise ship members came to rescue the pair in a lifeboat, the Daily Mail reported.

In video footage posted on Facebook by passenger Janice Martin-Asuque who witnessed the incident, a lifeboat can be seen floating in the choppy waters with people sitting inside.

There were no injuries reported in the incident.

“We are committed to the safety and well-being of our guests, and this incident highlights the effectiveness of our safety protocols,” Disney Cruise Line added in their statement to USA Today.

“Instagram Betrayed Me”: Businesswoman Denied Entry Into US Despite Valid Visa

Tears On Flight: Businesswoman Says Instagram Got Her Deported
A Nigerian businesswoman has gone viral after emotionally recounting how she was denied entry into the United States, despite holding a valid visa. In a tearful video shared widely across social media on 30th June 2025, the distraught woman blamed her Instagram account for the incident, saying immigration officials used her posts and private messages against her.

She had travelled to Texas with the intention of attending a trade fair. However, her plans came to a crashing halt at the port of entry.

“They checked my Instagram”
The woman, whose name has not yet been publicly confirmed said she entered the US using a B1/B2 visa. This type of visa allows holders to travel for tourism or attend business meetings—but not to actively sell or promote goods at commercial events.

Speaking through tears from her seat on a return flight to Lagos, she said:

“I was denied entrance into the US and that is because my visa [is] a B1–B2 visa which is [for] tourism/business meetings.”

According to her, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials became suspicious after asking about the nature of her visit. She said she explained she was attending a trade fair to exhibit her products.

“When I landed, I was detained for 24 hours and I was questioned,”
she said. “I told them I was going to exhibit but I did not know any better because the US has your data and your Instagram page.”

The woman claimed the officers then examined her phone and social media accounts, scrutinising Instagram posts and private conversations she had with prospective customers.

“Apparently, my Instagram says different,” she continued, sobbing.

“They even checked all my messages with my customers. The customers I have been telling that we are coming, they can pick up and all of that.”

“I didn’t know it was wrong”
The woman admitted that she may have misunderstood the terms of her visa. Although she intended to showcase her products at the event, she now realises that such an activity might not be permitted under a B1/B2 visa.

“I didn’t know it was wrong,” she said in the video, which has now been viewed more than 2 million times.

“I thought I could go and just display my things. I didn’t even know I wasn’t supposed to be exhibiting.”

US immigration laws distinguish between business visitors and commercial participants. While attending meetings or conferences is generally allowed on a B1 visa, active participation in trade shows—as an exhibitor selling or promoting products—usually requires a different visa category, such as the B1-in-lieu-of-H or a temporary work visa.

She revealed that her preparations for the event included extensive communication with customers online.

“I had told some people that we were coming,” she added.

“They said all of that contradicted what I told them [the officers]. That’s why they sent me back.”

The businesswoman said the immigration officers did not allow her to make calls or use her phone during the first several hours of detention. She described the ordeal as humiliating and traumatic.

“It was like being treated as a criminal,” she said.

“They took my fingerprints, they took photos, and then they just put me on the next flight.”

Reactions spark online debate
The video has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing sympathy for the woman, while others warned that her experience highlighted the need to fully understand visa restrictions before travelling.

One user on X wrote:

“This is a harsh lesson. But let’s also admit, most of us don’t read visa rules properly. If you’re doing business—even showcasing goods—you need to confirm it’s allowed.”

Another added:

“People need to be aware that US immigration officers can check your phone and online activity. That’s not new. Once you’re at the border, you have very few rights.”

Legal analysts also weighed in, reminding travellers that digital footprints—particularly on platforms like Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook—can be used as evidence during border interviews.

In the U.S., border agents have broad powers to inspect phones and electronic devices without a warrant.

A Lagos-based immigration consultant commented anonymously:

“We always advise clients to clean up their social media and ensure that their stated purpose of travel aligns with what’s visible online. Any mismatch is a red flag.”

While some users questioned whether the border officials went too far, others defended the decision, saying U.S. immigration laws must be respected.

As of press time, the woman has not publicly disclosed whether she intends to appeal or reapply for another visa.

She did, however, leave a strong warning for others:

“Just be careful. This Instagram you’re using to promote your business—they are watching.”

As of 30th June 2025, the video remains one of the top trending topics in Nigeria and across African diaspora communities on social media.

Prophet Walter Magaya Takes Anointed Apples to USA

Prophet Walter Magaya Takes Anointed Apples to USA

Prophet Walter Magaya is headed to the United States this August for a major three-day spiritual gathering, just as social media is still buzzing over his introduction of “anointed apples” during a Sunday service.

The PHD Ministries founder took to Instagram on Monday, 30 June 2025, to announce the upcoming America for Jesus Conference, which will run from 15 to 17 August at the Hilton Dallas Lincoln Centre.

A Call for Direction, Healing and Transformation
Magaya described the conference as a space for people looking for clarity, purpose, and spiritual alignment during crucial moments in life. He said the event is meant to deliver God’s message with “precision and grace.”

“From the 15th to the 17th, join him at the Hilton Dallas Lincoln Centre for the three-day America for Jesus Conference designed for those seeking clarity, direction, and meaningful transformation. His mandate is clear. To deliver God’s message and minister His power with precision and grace in the name of Jesus Christ. This is a moment set aside for individuals who value insight, who carry responsibility, who are navigating pivotal seasons and looking for deeper alignment in life and purpose,” part of the announcement reads.

Prophet Walter Magaya Takes Anointed Apples to USA
According to Magaya, the gathering isn’t just for churchgoers, but for anyone, from parents and leaders to people unsure of what’s next in life, who wants to tap into divine guidance.

“Whether you are building a family, leading an organisation, shaping decisions, or simply searching for what’s next, this is a space where answers meet intention. A place where lives are shaped through timeless truth and the presence of God. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope— Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV)”

More Than Just a Conference
Magaya framed the event as a life-changing opportunity — one that could bring healing, restoration, deliverance and transformation to those who attend.

“This gathering is an opportunity to connect with that promise—to come into alignment with the plans of God and to receive what has already been prepared for your future. Healing. Restoration. Direction. Deliverance. Transformation. These are more than themes. They represent what has already been made available through Christ and what you are being invited to encounter fully. Be set apart by the hand of the Lord. There are moments that define direction. This is one of them. May God bless you,” the post added.

Ghanaian woman launches search for a Chinese national who impregnated her and then vanished

A young woman from Ghana’s Ashanti Region is pleading with the public and authorities for help in locating a Chinese national who impregnated her and then vanished.

Selina Adu Gyamfi, a resident of Abodom in the Asante Bekwai Municipality, recounted her experience in an emotional interview with Nyira FM, revealing how she was abandoned by her former partner, identified only as Leon. According to Selina, Leon was part of a group of Chinese nationals involved in illegal mining, locally referred to as galamsey, in the area.

She said their relationship began while Leon was working in Bekwai and quickly became serious. “My issue is that some Chinese people came to Abodom, Asante Bekwai, for galamsey. I had a relationship with one of them called Leon. When they were leaving, I didn’t know I was pregnant,” she said tearfully.

Selina described the relationship as affectionate and financially supportive, saying Leon would often give her ₵1,000 weekly or ₵500 every three days. She believed they were building a future together until the miners abruptly left town.

Two months later, she discovered she was pregnant and contacted Leon, who initially expressed happiness. But soon after, he cut off all communication. “I called to inform him I was pregnant, and he said he liked it. But I don’t know what people told him; he started avoiding me and eventually blacklisted me,” she said.

Selina said she reported the matter to the local police, which led to Leon’s brief arrest. However, he was released and has not been seen since.

“Leon was good to me while we were together, but now I’m struggling to take care of the child alone. I don’t know where he is,” she cried.

Her appeal has sparked public sympathy and renewed concerns over the lack of accountability among some foreign nationals involved in illegal mining activities in Ghana.

Julius Malema Urges DA to Exit GNU, Eyes EFF’s Entry

Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has called for the Democratic Alliance (DA) to exit the Government of National Unity (GNU), arguing it would pave the way for his party to join the coalition. His remarks follow the DA’s threat to withdraw from the National Dialogue, citing President Cyril Ramaphosa’s failure to address corruption within the African National Congress (ANC).

The DA’s ultimatum was triggered by Ramaphosa’s decision to remove DA MP Andrew Whitfield as deputy minister of Trade and Industry, which the DA deemed unjustified. The party also accused Ramaphosa of shielding corrupt ANC ministers. Malema, speaking over the weekend, criticized the DA’s decision to join the GNU, suggesting they should have allowed the ANC to govern as a minority party instead.

“If the DA was anti-corrupt and pro-poor, they should have allowed the ANC to govern as a minority party. Nothing was forcing them into government,” Malema said. He emphasized the need to respect government protocols and Ramaphosa’s authority, adding, “There is a president here, whether they like it or not… they must respect government protocols. If they don’t want that, they must step out.”

Malema argued that the DA, as part of the GNU, cannot oppose decisions made by Ramaphosa, stating, “You cannot oppose the government you are part of.” He pointed to the ANC’s minority government in Gauteng, where the DA operates freely outside the coalition, as an example of how the DA could function without being in government.

The EFF leader suggested the DA’s threats were unnecessary, given their choice to join a coalition with the ANC, which he described as a “corrupt government.” Malema also hinted at the EFF’s readiness to join the GNU if the DA exits, saying, “We are patiently waiting for the DA to leave the GNU so that we can participate in government.”

Political analyst Dr. John Molepo warned that Malema’s comments could deepen tensions within the GNU, potentially destabilizing the coalition. “The DA’s threat to withdraw from the National Dialogue has already strained relations, and Malema’s remarks are likely to exacerbate the situation,” Molepo said.

Dalai Lama Succession Talk Stirs Controversy

The Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism, will address a major Buddhist conference this week, ahead of his 90th birthday on Sunday, to discuss his succession, a move likely to provoke China. Beijing, which views the Dalai Lama as a separatist since his 1959 exile, insists it will select his successor. The Dalai Lama has rejected this, stating his reincarnation will be born outside China, possibly in India, where he lives in exile near the northern Himalayan town of Dharamshala.

Tibet is a historical region on the Tibetan Plateau in Asia, known as the “Roof of the World” for its high elevation, averaging over 4,500 meters. It encompasses a unique cultural, religious, and linguistic heritage centered around Tibetan Buddhism. Geographically, it spans modern-day western China, including the Tibet Autonomous Region and parts of Qinghai, Sichuan, Gansu, and Yunnan provinces. It borders India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Myanmar to the south and west. Tibet has been under Chinese control since a 1950 military invasion, with China claiming it as an integral part of its territory. Tibetans, including the Dalai Lama, assert that Tibet is a distinct nation with a rich history, seeking greater autonomy or independence to preserve its Buddhist traditions and cultural identity.

At a recent gathering, the Dalai Lama affirmed his commitment to serving others, hinting at a framework for the continuation of the institution. Tibetan Buddhists believe enlightened monks reincarnate to continue their spiritual legacy. The Dalai Lama, identified at age two as the 14th reincarnation, has suggested his successor could be male or female.

China’s interference has prompted early discussions, unusual while a Dalai Lama is alive, according to Thupten Ngodup, Tibet’s chief state oracle. Beijing demands the Dalai Lama acknowledge Tibet and Taiwan as parts of China, a condition rejected by the Tibetan government-in-exile. Dolma Tsering Teykhang, deputy speaker of the Tibetan parliament-in-exile, stressed the need for the Dalai Lama’s guidance to counter China’s political control over the reincarnation process.

In 2023, the religious leader faced controversy after a video showed him asking a young boy to “suck my tongue” during a public event, prompting widespread criticism. He later apologized, with his office stating the remark was made in jest, reflecting his playful nature, but acknowledging it caused offense.

The three-day conference, the first since 2019, will include over 100 Tibetan Buddhist leaders and a video statement from the Dalai Lama. Hollywood actor Richard Gere, a long-time follower, will attend. India’s parliamentary affairs minister, Kiren Rijiju, is expected at the birthday celebrations, where the Dalai he will speak briefly.

Despite health concerns following knee surgery last year, the Dalai Lama remains optimistic, claiming he could live to 110. His 2011 decision to transfer political duties to a democratically elected government ensures the Tibetan government-in-exile’s continuity, while his Gaden Phodrang Foundation, established in 2015, will oversee the succession plan.

Teykhang noted that the Dalai Lama has prepared Tibetans for his eventual absence, ensuring the preservation of Tibetan culture, religion, and identity for global well-being.

DA Warns Ramaphosa Over No-Confidence Motion Threat

CAPE TOWN- The Democratic Alliance (DA) has intensified its stance against President Cyril Ramaphosa, with federal chair Helen Zille warning that tabling a motion of no-confidence in him is not an empty threat. Zille criticized Ramaphosa for failing to address corruption within the African National Congress (ANC), suggesting his inaction aligns him with the party’s corrupt elements.

Tensions escalated after Ramaphosa sacked DA Eastern Cape leader Andrew Whitfield as deputy minister, prompting the president to cancel a trip to Spain to manage the fallout. Despite internal and external pressure from both DA and ANC factions to dissolve their Government of National Unity (GNU) partnership, the DA remains committed to staying but warns it will not tolerate further provocations.

Zille referenced a “three strikes” policy, noting that Whitfield’s dismissal was a second major grievance. While the DA’s federal executive opted against an immediate no-confidence motion, Zille emphasized it remains a viable option if Ramaphosa continues to align with the ANC’s radical economic transformation faction. “Don’t test us because we are prepared to use the nuclear option,” she said.

In response, the DA has withdrawn from the National Dialogue, a move that may strain relations further and potentially affect other DA ministers.
