Zambia Seeks to Block Burial of Former President Edgar Lungu in South Africa

Zambia Seeks to Block Burial of Former President Edgar Lungu in South Africa

Zambia’s government has filed an urgent court application in South Africa to block the burial of former President Edgar Lungu, a move that has triggered political and public backlash.

The application, lodged in the Pretoria High Court on June 24, seeks to stop the burial of Lungu in South Africa and have his remains repatriated to Zambia for a state funeral. The government argues that as a former head of state, Lungu must be buried on Zambian soil with official honors.

Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha, who secured the interim court interdict, presented three primary justifications: Lungu’s entitlement to a state funeral, the public’s right to mourn him, and a supposed legal precedent set by the burial dispute of Zambia’s founding president, Kenneth Kaunda.

However, constitutional expert and historian Dr. Sishuwa Sishuwa has challenged the government’s position, describing it as both legally flawed and politically charged.

“Under the Benefits of Former Presidents Act, Lungu forfeited his benefits including the right to a state funeral when he returned to active politics in 2023,” Sishuwa said. “The law is clear. Once a former president resumes partisan political activity, those privileges are lost.”

Dr. Sishuwa also rejected the government’s invocation of the Kaunda case as legal precedent. He explained that in Kaunda’s case, the courts did not rule on the merits of the burial location, but merely declined to review the executive’s decision, meaning it set no binding precedent.

Lungu’s family, through spokesperson Makebi Zulu, has publicly stated that the former president wished to be buried in South Africa to avoid state involvement in his funeral. According to Zulu, Lungu did not want those who “abandoned him in life” to “pretend to mourn him in death.”

The family’s insistence on a private burial has intensified friction with the state, with unconfirmed reports suggesting that government agents tried to seize Lungu’s remains from a South African mortuary claims that have only deepened public suspicion.

Dr. Sishuwa further noted that the family’s resistance may be fueled by fears of occult rituals a belief that is not uncommon in Zambian political culture. “There is a strong belief within the family that certain actors may seek to use Lungu’s remains for ritual purposes,” he said.

“This is not about superstition it is about how deeply held perceptions influence political behavior in Zambia,” Sishuwa added. “Whether true or not, such beliefs can significantly shape decisions around death and burial.”

Critics argue that the government’s attempt to control Lungu’s burial is politically motivated. According to Sishuwa, the court action is a tactic designed to force the family into negotiations where the state can dictate funeral arrangements.

“This is less about honoring Lungu and more about controlling the narrative,” he said. “Hichilema may want to avoid the political embarrassment of a former president being buried in exile, especially with elections on the horizon.”

Political observers warn that the dispute could escalate, with the Pretoria High Court expected to rule on the matter by August. If the Zambian government loses, it may appeal the decision, dragging the matter into a prolonged legal and diplomatic standoff.

The legal battle has already sparked debate about the limits of state power, the rights of grieving families, and the politicization of death. For many Zambians, it is a painful reminder of the deep divisions that continue to characterize national politics.

As tensions rise, the case raises pressing questions about the intersection of law, tradition, and political power where even a leader’s final resting place becomes a stage for broader political contestation.

CONSTITUTIONAL COURT DECLARES BILL 7 UNCONSTITUTIONAL

Lusaka

CONSTITUTIONAL COURT DECLARES BILL 7 UNCONSTITUTIONAL

Lusaka… Friday June 27, 2025 – In a landmark ruling delivered earlier today, the Constitutional Court of Zambia declared the government’s attempt to amend the Constitution through Bill 7 as unconstitutional.

The decision came in the case of Munir Zulu and Celestine Mukandila v. The Attorney General, with the Court finding that the proposed changes violated the principles of constitutional democracy and the rule of law.

The petitioners, Hon. Munir Zulu MP and Celestine Mambula Mukandila, had challenged the constitutional amendment process initiated by the UPND government.

They argued that the Constitution is a sacred document which must not be altered without transparent processes and full participation by the Zambian people.

The Court sided with their arguments, stating that the procedure lacked legitimacy and failed to reflect a national consensus.

The ruling followed closely on the heels of a directive from President Hakainde Hichilema, who had instructed the Minister of Justice to pause the amendment process just a day earlier.

Critics suggested the move may have been an attempt to preempt the legal defeat that has now materialized.

According to the judgment, the process behind Bill 7 was found to have been driven more by political convenience than by democratic necessity.

The Court emphasized that any attempt to amend the Constitution must be consultative, people-driven, and transparent, warning against bypassing public input in matters of such national importance.

Activists and members of civil society who had long raised concerns about Bill 7 welcomed the decision.

Mr. Thompson Luzendi, an activist and member of the Socialist Party, remarked that the ruling had confirmed what many Zambians already suspected: that the UPND’s approach to constitutional reform lacked the necessary transparency and consent from the public.

He further stated that the decision was a moral and historic victory for democratic values.

Mr. Luzendi praised the bravery of the petitioners, saying they had demonstrated civic courage in the face of executive pressure.

He noted that their actions served as an important reminder that the Constitution does not belong to any single political party or government, but to the Zambian people.

Quoting Socialist Party President Dr Fred M’membe, Mr. Luzendi said the ruling served as a wake-up call to citizens: “Democracy does not defend itself—it requires active citizens who will stand up when power overreaches.”

As it stands, the Court’s decision effectively halts any progress on Bill 7.

Legal experts indicate that if the government still wishes to amend the Constitution, it must restart the process from scratch, ensuring full public consultation and parliamentary oversight.

Clarifying the Debate on the Deferred Constitution Amendment Bill

Clarifying the Debate on the Deferred Constitution Amendment Bill

By ; Tobbius Chilembo Hamunkoyo -LLB, Author, Scientist, Political and Governance activist,27/06/25

Today ‘s public statement by the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) suggesting that the Republican President has “accepted that the clauses under the proposed Bill are bad” is a clear misrepresentation.

Contrary to that assertion, the decision to defer the Constitution Amendment Bill # 7 was not an admission of fault, but rather a demonstration of democratic maturity and commitment to national consensus, very important.

The deferral  by the President yesterday, is a strategic and inclusive step to allow for broader consultation and to build consensus among stakeholders, ensuring that the final product reflects the collective will of the Zambian people.

It is indeed a notorious fact that the move underscores the President Hichilema’s openness to dialogue and constitutional reform that is grounded in unity, not division.

Furthermore, LAZ’s claim that the current Bill is no different from the previously controversial Bill No. 10 is equally misleading.

This assertion shows a lack of thorough comparison between the two documents. While both are constitutional amendment efforts, the structure, content, and intentions behind the current Bill #7 differ significantly from Bill # 10.

Dismissing these differences not only undermines the reform process but also risks misleading the public.

The people of Zambia deserve clarity and the truth, not confusion and lies.

As stakeholders let us be encouraged to engage constructively in the consultation process and base our critiques on fact, not misrepresentation.

Only then can the country move forward with a constitution that truly serves its democratic aspirations.

OPEN LETTER TO INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE

OPEN LETTER TO INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE

June 27, 2025

The Inspector General
Zambia Police Service
Police Headquarters
Independence Avenue
Lusaka, Zambia

Dear Sir:

SUBJECT: REQUEST TO COMPEL ANTI-ROBBERY SQUAD (C5) OFFICERS TO
WEAR IDENTIFIABLE CLOTHING DURING PUBLIC OPERATIONS

Dear Inspector General,

I write to respectfully request your urgent attention to the conduct of the Anti-Robbery
Squad during public operations.

There have been growing public concerns over the fact that officers attached to the Anti-Røbbery Squad often conduct operations in plain clothes, without any form of identification.

To make it worse, they drive in unmarked private vehicles. This has made it increasingly difficult for members of the public to distinguish law enforcement officers from criminal elements, especially during high-tension incidents. Such situations have the potential to cause confusion, panic, or even unintentional harm to bystanders (as we have witnessed in the recent past) and officers alike.

In the interest of public safety, accountability, and effective policing, I kindly urge your office to consider instituting a directive compelling all members of the Anti-Robbery Squad, otherwise known as “C5”, to wear identifiable clothing (such as vests, armbands, or jackets labeled “Zambia Police”) when conducting operations in public spaces.

This measure will also enable members of the public to distinguish between dangerous, armed crimiñals and the Zambia Police Officers.

Also, this step will promote transparency, build public confidence in law enforcement
operations, and reduce the risk of abuse and human rights violations.

I thank you for your attention to this important matter and look forward to your timely response.

Please care to respond within 72 hours of receipt of this letter of
unquestionable public interest.

Yours faithfully,
Arnold Chasaya
Concerned Private Citizen.

UPND SECRETARY GENERAL  IMENDA HAILS  VICTORY IN LUMEZI, MILENGE AND, SIKONGO

UPND SECRETARY GENERAL  IMENDA HAILS  VICTORY IN LUMEZI, MILENGE AND, SIKONGO

June 27, 2025

Lusaka- United Party for National Development (UPND) Secretary General Batuke Imenda has expressed deep gratitude to the people of Lumezi, Milenge, and Sikongo for delivering what he described as a “sweet victory” in the recent by-elections.

Speaking from the UPND National Secretariat in Lusaka, Mr. Imenda highlighted the significance of winning in traditionally challenging areas. He noted that Eastern Province, particularly Lumezi, has historically been a difficult region for the UPND to penetrate.

“Our party went in to conquer, and we did it,” he stated confidently, emphasizing the determination and strategy behind the victory.

He further said Tuuwa ward in  Sikongo , Western province is not an easy ward to win, UPND has in the past lost three times in Tuuwa ward. In the year 2000 UPND party won Sikongo overally but lost Tuuwa ward, again during the MMD there was a bye election in Tuuwa ward UPND lost it.

Mr .Imenda was quick to mention that during the time of MP Mundia Ndalamei UPND won all the wards in Sikongo but lost Tuuwa ,in 2021 when UPND cleaned Western Province,it won each and every ward but lost Tuuwa ward for a strange reason.

He described  Fibalala ward in Milenge District Luapula Province as the most tightly contested of the three regions, calling it “the most difficult to win.” Despite the challenge, he noted that this marks the third consecutive by-election victory for the party in Milenge, signaling a growing shift in support from the region toward the UPND.

Imenda commended the spirit of democracy displayed by all political parties that participated in the elections. “In democracy, you win some, you lose some,” he said, extending appreciation to the UPND campaign team and party leadership for their hard work.

In conclusion, Mr. Imenda reaffirmed UPND’s commitment to development in the regions that supported the party. “The people have spoken, and they deserve development”. We shall forever be grateful.

DA gives Ramaphosa 48 hours to fire alleged ANC corrupt ministers

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has given President Cyril Ramaphosa a 48-hour ultimatum to dismiss several African National Congress (ANC) ministers and deputy ministers implicated in corruption.

The demand follows the controversial dismissal of DA Deputy Minister Andrew Whitfield from his role in Trade, Industry, and Competition, which the DA has called a “calculated political assault” and an example of “double standards” by Ramaphosa.

The DA, led by John Steenhuisen, is demanding the removal of Justice Minister Thembi Simelane, Higher Education Minister Nobuhle Nkabane, and Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation David Mahlobo.

Simelane is accused of receiving a R575,600 loan linked to unlawful VBS Mutual Bank investments during her tenure as Polokwane mayor.

Nkabane allegedly misled Parliament about an “independent panel” for SETA board appointments, while Mahlobo faces serious corruption allegations from the Zondo Commission on state capture.

Despite these claims, all three remain in their posts. Whitfield’s dismissal, announced on today, June 26, was attributed to his failure to secure presidential approval for a trip to the United States, though the DA insists he requested permission on February 12 without a response.

Steenhuisen criticized Ramaphosa for targeting Whitfield over minor procedural issues while shielding ANC figures from accountability, warning that failure to act by June 28 could destabilize the GNU, formed after the ANC lost its absolute majority in the 2024 elections.

As the ultimatum’s deadline looms, South Africans await Ramaphosa’s response, with many expressing frustration over perceived leniency toward corruption.

Ramaphosa defends firing of Whitfield amid DA backlash

Ramaphosa defends firing of Whitfield amid DA backlash

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Thursday, 26 June 2025, the removal of Andrew Whitfield as Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition, following an unauthorized international trip to the United States.

The decision, enacted under Section 93(1) of the South African Constitution, prompted a public statement from Ramaphosa today, Friday in response to criticism and “distortions” from Whitfield and Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen.

Ramaphosa clarified that Whitfield’s dismissal stemmed from his failure to obtain presidential approval for the trip, violating long-standing rules governing Executive members.

These protocols, emphasized during the 7th administration’s induction and a March 2025 Cabinet meeting, mandate that all international travel by ministers and deputy ministers requires the President’s express permission. “Mr. Whitfield deliberately chose to violate this rule,” Ramaphosa stated.

The President revealed that Whitfield anticipated his dismissal, as evidenced by a subsequent apology letter. Ramaphosa also informed Steenhuisen of the decision beforehand, citing precedents like the 1995 dismissal of Deputy Minister Madikizela-Mandela and the 2007 removal of Nosizwe Madlala-Routledge for similar breaches.

He dismissed DA claims linking the decision to unrelated issues as baseless and rebuffed Steenhuisen’s request to delay the announcement until after a DA Federal Executive briefing, asserting his constitutional prerogative.

The DA, entitled to nominate a replacement, now faces scrutiny over its response, which included ultimatums and threats.

Tensions escalated as the DA, entitled to nominate Whitfield’s replacement, has issued an ultimatum to Ramaphosa, demanding the dismissal of several African National Congress (ANC) ministers accused of corruption.

“ALEXANDER,THE UPND ASPIRING MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR MATERO  SPARKS COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP MOVEMENT”

By Wagon Media Team

Matero, Lusaka

A powerful grassroots movement is taking shape in Matero, led by a passionate and concerned resident named Alexander, who has called on fellow community members to take ownership of their environment and restore cleanliness and pride in their neighborhood.

Standing before a large heap of garbage, Alexander delivered a heartfelt message that has since stirred many to action:

“What you see behind me is not just garbage. This is a symbol of the neglect that we have allowed in our community. But we must not wait for others to come and clean it up for us. We have to do it ourselves.”

Alexander made it clear that the responsibility for change lies with the residents themselves. In his words, this is about more than just trash—it’s about reclaiming dignity and showing pride in where we come from.

“This is our community. This is where we come from. This should not be allowed by any member of this community.”

Taking initiative, Alexander spoke to the town clerk to secure official clearance to dispose of the waste properly.

“We begin to do the job ourselves today. We are not going to wait for somebody to come and clean up our mess.”

His leadership and proactive approach have sparked admiration across Lusaka and beyond. At a time when many wait on authorities to act, Alexander’s example is a reminder that positive change begins with us.

Alexander’s bold stand and calls on all residents of Matero—and indeed the nation—to follow suit. A cleaner, healthier community is possible when we unite, take action, and hold ourselves accountable.

Let Alexander’s voice be a rallying cry for all: don’t wait—act.

TIME TO CLEAN UP MATERO – A CALL FOR NEW LEADERSHIP IN 2026

Trust Phiri  aka Kallabby Kalabadia writes…. ✍️

TIME TO CLEAN UP MATERO – A CALL FOR NEW LEADERSHIP IN 2026

Friday, 96-27-2025

Matero is not just a constituency; it is the soul of Lusaka. As Zambia’s first township after independence, Matero has grown into a vibrant, populous city with over 2 million residents. It’s divided into Matero East, Central, and South;  and is known for producing hardworking youths who hustle daily through entrepreneurship, innovation, and grit. You can’t talk about Lusaka without mentioning Matero; almost everyone in this capital city has either lived in or passed through it.

Despite its rich history and immense potential, Matero has sadly lagged behind in key areas of cultural, environmental, social, economic, technological, and moral development. And this is not by accident.

For over a decade, the constituency has been under the representation of Hon. Miles Sampa, who has consistently failed to deliver meaningful change; in between as Mayor of Lusaka and now as Member of Parliament for Matero. Despite multiple opportunities and ample resources, he has turned a blind eye to the urgent needs of our community.

Today, Matero is defined by:

♤ Poor roads and infrastructure

♤ Broken drainage systems

♤ Open, stagnant sewer water threatening our health

♤ Inadequate public toilets and filthy markets

♤ Rampant unplanned settlements

♤ Lack of clean drinking water

♤ Heaps of uncollected garbage lining our streets

Instead of being a visionary leader, the current MP has been preoccupied with self preservation, social media theatrics, and a kindergarten level understanding of governance. He has failed to use his position to uplift our community. If it wasn’t for the transformational leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema and the New Dawn Government, we wouldn’t even have the small pockets of development we see today,  including market loans and earth-moving equipment deployed across the constituency.

Under the President’s leadership, the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has increased from ZMK 1.6 million to ZMK 32.6 million, but sadly, Matero has not benefited proportionately,  simply because our MP lacks both the vision and capacity to deliver.

Enough is enough.

As a proud resident of Matero, I strongly believe it is time to clean up, not only the garbage on our streets but the mediocrity in our leadership. Matero deserves better. We deserve a Member of Parliament who:

♤ Puts people first

♤ Has a sound development agenda

♤ Understands the challenges on the ground

Has the stamina and political will to deliver real results

Alexander Mumba Sakala, a fellow son of Matero, stands ready to answer that call. He is committed to serving the people, not himself. His heart is in the right place, and his vision is clear.

To all my fellow Matero residents:

♤ Let’s rise together and reclaim our township.
♤ Let’s bring in leadership that respects us, listens to us, and works for us.

In 2026, let’s vote for change. Let’s vote for progress. Let’s vote for Matero.

U.S. Gives Zambia 60 Days to Address Key Concerns or Face Travel Restrictions-minister of foreign affairs

GOVT REVIEWING U.S. TRAVEL BAN RISK – HAIMBE

Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Mulambo Haimbe has disclosed that Zambia risks being placed on a United States travel restriction list due to concerns over passport security, immigration enforcement, and weaknesses in information sharing.

Speaking in Parliament, Mr Haimbe outlined that the U.S. government raised three key issues, the integrity and security of Zambia’s travel documents, challenges in removing Zambian nationals living irregularly in the U.S., and inadequate intergovernmental cooperation on identity verification and repatriation matters.

He warned that, if implemented, the travel ban could result in restricted access to the U.S. for Zambians, disruption of bilateral programs, economic uncertainty, separation of diaspora families, and potential damage to Zambia’s international reputation and investor confidence.

To avert the risk, the Zambian government has initiated a coordinated, multi-sectoral response. This includes a comprehensive review of passport issuance systems by the Ministry of Home Affairs, enhanced cooperation on immigration enforcement, and increased diplomatic engagement through Zambia’s Mission in Washington, D.C.

On 24th June 2025, Minister Haimbe held a meeting with the U.S. Ambassador and senior American officials. The two sides agreed on a range of joint measures, including regular consultative engagements, data-sharing on visa overstayers, fast-tracking of extradition requests, and U.S. technical support to improve the security features of Zambian identity documents.

Assuring the nation, Mr. Haimbe emphasized that meaningful progress is already underway and that government is working within the 60-day review period set by U.S. authorities.

Meanwhile, Mr. Haimbe also updated Parliament on the recent visit by United Nations Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Opinion and Expression, Ms Irene Khan, who was in Zambia from 20th to 31st January 2025.

Ms Khan commended Zambia’s democratic progress, citing the enactment of the Access to Information Act and the repeal of the law criminalizing defamation of the President. However, she also raised concerns over the need to amend the Public Order and State Security Acts, ensure media independence, and tackle the rise in online abuse.

The Minister says government has welcomed the UN report and reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the recommendations in order to strengthen human rights and democratic governance ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Trump Wants to Sue CNN and New York Times for Questioning Damage Done in Iran Strikes

0

President Donald Trump is lashing out at The New York Times and CNN for publishing reports that challenge the effectiveness of recent U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Trump has dismissed the outlets’ coverage as “fake news,” while defending his administration’s narrative that the strikes resulted in “total obliteration” of Iran’s nuclear capabilities. In doing so, he has also contradicted preliminary findings by his own intelligence analysts, who concluded the damage may only have set Iran’s nuclear program back by a few months.

According to The Associated Press, in a string of social media posts, Trump called CNN’s Natasha Bertrand a purveyor of “Fake News” and demanded that she be “thrown out like a dog.” He also labeled the Times reporters who worked on the story as “bad and sick people” for what he described as efforts to “demean the great works our B-2 pilots did.” Both CNN and The New York Times have strongly defended the accuracy of their reporting, emphasizing that the assessment they cited was an initial finding from the Defense Intelligence Agency.

According to the Times report, which featured six bylines, a preliminary U.S. intelligence analysis indicated the damage inflicted by the strikes would only delay Iran’s nuclear progress for a short period. That directly conflicts with Trump’s repeated assertions that the targeted sites were “completely destroyed.” CNN similarly reported on the assessment, acknowledging that findings could evolve with further intelligence but maintaining that the initial report was newsworthy and accurate.

The White House quickly responded to the media reports with a statement dismissing the intelligence findings as a “low-confidence” and “inconclusive” leak intended to undermine both Trump and the mission’s success. It doubled down on the president’s narrative by stating that “everyone knows what happens when you drop fourteen 30,000-pound bombs perfectly on their targets: Total Obliteration.” Trump’s defenders, including Sen. Markwayne Mullins of Oklahoma, accused journalists of creating division instead of celebrating a military victory.

In a follow-up interview on CNN, anchor Kaitlan Collins pushed back against the idea that reporters should act as cheerleaders, reminding the senator that it is the media’s responsibility to ask questions and seek clarity. Meanwhile, the Times’ spokesperson Charles Stadtlander noted the irony in Trump’s criticism, pointing out that the president himself confirmed the Defense Intelligence Agency produced the assessment he originally labeled as fake. “So their statement was fake, not the Times’s reporting,” Stadtlander said.

Trump lashes out at Iran for not thanking him

Moments after Donald Trump held a press conference where he jumped from topic to topic –– including insisting the 2020 election was stolen from him –– he jumped on Truth Social to fume at the leadership of Iran.

According to the president, the leader of Iran has failed to thank him for put a damper on a growing war after the U.S. bombed his country.

The president began, “Why would the so-called ‘Supreme Leader,’ Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, of the war torn Country of Iran, say so blatantly and foolishly that he won the War with Israel, when he knows his statement is a lie, it is not so. As a man of great faith, he is not supposed to lie. His Country was decimated, his three evil Nuclear Sites were OBLITERATED, and I knew EXACTLY where he was sheltered, and would not let Israel, or the U.S. Armed Forces, by far the Greatest and Most Powerful in the World, terminate his life. I SAVED HIM FROM A VERY UGLY AND IGNOMINIOUS DEATH, and he does not have to say, ‘THANK YOU, PRESIDENT TRUMP!'”

Having gotten that off his chest, he insisted, “In fact, in the final act of the War, I demanded that Israel bring back a very large group of planes, which were heading directly to Tehran, looking for a big day, perhaps the final knockout! Tremendous damage would have ensued, and many Iranians would have been killed. It was going to be the biggest attack of the War, by far.”

“During the last few days, I was working on the possible removal of sanctions, and other things, which would have given a much better chance to Iran at a full, fast, and complete recovery – The sanctions are BITING! But no, instead I get hit with a statement of anger, hatred, and disgust, and immediately dropped all work on sanction relief, and more. Iran has to get back into the World Order flow, or things will only get worse for them,” he complained.

Writing, “They are always so angry, hostile, and unhappy, and look at what it has gotten them – A burned out, blown up Country, with no future, a decimated Military, a horrible Economy, and DEATH all around them. They have no hope, and it will only get worse!” he suggested, “I wish the leadership of Iran would realize that you often get more with HONEY than you do with VINEGAR. PEACE!!!”

Ronaldo’s new ‘£492MILLION Al-Nassr contract’ includes ‘£25m signing bonus, 16 full-time staff, £4m for private jet and 15% stake in club’’

Cristiano Ronaldo’s new Al-Nassr contract is the most lucrative in sporting history, with his two-year deal worth £492million.

The Portuguese was handed a bumper pay rise to remain with the Saudi Pro League outfit.

The new terms, which will take him past his 42nd birthday, reportedly include an eye-watering basic salary of £488,000-a-day.

A report in the Sun states that the forward’s contract is the most lucrative in sporting history and on top of the staggering compensation, it includes the perk of becoming a ‘dream ambassador’ for the Gulf State which could take his income to more than £500m over the next two years.

Additionally, he is reportedly pocketing a signing bonus of £24.5m which increases to £38m if he triggers the second year of his contract.

The outlet also claim that he has been given a 15 per cent ownership stake in the club worth £33m. In all, if bonuses for claiming for golden boot and winning the Saudi Pro League are received, Ronaldo will be more than half a billion pounds richer at the end of his deal.

The Sun also reported that Ronaldo and his family will have 16 people working full-time; three drivers, four housekeepers, two chefs, three gardeners, and four security people – who will be paid for by Al-Nassr at a cost of around £1.4m.

Ronaldo’s new deal was confirmed on Thursday following months of speculation that he could depart the club this summer.

On Thursday, the striker and the club confirmed the decision, with Ronaldo posting on X: ‘A new chapter begins. Same passion, same dream. Let’s make history together.’

Ronaldo scored 35 goals in 41 matches in all competitions last term and was the Saudi Pro League’s top scorer for the second season running.

In all, he has netted 99 times in 111 appearances for Al-Nassr and is inching closer to his dream of reaching 1,000 senior career goals. His current tally stands at 938.

South Korea arrests six Americans  trying to send Bibles to North Korea

South Korean authorities have arrested six American nationals who were allegedly attempting to send plastic bottles packed with rice, Bibles, and U.S. currency across the maritime border into North Korea. The arrests took place in the early hours of Thursday, June 26, near Ganghwa Island, a border region northwest of Seoul, according to local police.

The suspects, aged between their 20s and 50s, were apprehended at 1:03 a.m. while trying to launch thousands of plastic bottles into the sea. “We have arrested and are questioning six American nationals in their 20s to 50s on suspicion of violating the Framework Act on the Management of Disasters and Safety,” the head of the investigation team at Ganghwa police station in Incheon told AFP. “The Americans could not speak Korean, so an interpreter was provided for them and we have since started the questioning.”

Ganghwa Island, located less than 10 kilometres from North Korea’s maritime border, has long been used by non-profit groups and anti-Pyongyang activists as a launch site for items intended to reach the North. These often include rice, dollar bills, USB sticks containing South Korean dramas and K-pop music, and religious materials such as Bibles.

In November, the South Korean government designated Ganghwa and other border zones as danger areas, warning that such activities could be seen by North Korea as provocative and destabilising. The policy shift came amid escalating tensions between the two countries, which engaged in a tit-for-tat propaganda campaign last year.

During that period, North Korea launched thousands of trash-filled balloons into the South, claiming they were in retaliation for propaganda materials sent across the border by South Korean activists. In response, Seoul reactivated border loudspeakers to broadcast K-pop music and international news. North Korea countered by transmitting eerie sounds along the frontier, causing significant disturbances to residents in nearby areas.

South Korea’s new president, Lee Jae Myung, who assumed office this month, has promised a more conciliatory stance toward North Korea. He halted the border broadcasts, a move that prompted Pyongyang to stop its own transmissions the following day.

Kylian Mbappé has filed a lawsuit against PSG

0

Kylian Mbappé has filed a lawsuit against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), accusing the French club of moral harassment and claiming it owes him €55 million ($61 million) in unpaid wages.

The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed the legal filing on Thursday. The Real Madrid forward alleges he was mistreated by PSG, particularly after he informed the club in 2023 that he would not be extending his contract.

According to the filing, Mbappé was subjected to “lofting” — a practice in France where players are excluded from the main squad for sporting or disciplinary reasons. He was left out of PSG’s preseason tour of Japan and South Korea and was made to train with fringe players. He also missed the opening game of the 2023–24 Ligue 1 season before being reinstated after further discussions.

Mbappé joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2024 on a free transfer, ending his PSG stint with a club-record 256 goals. He left amid growing tension, with some fans even booing him during his final home game at Parc des Princes.

In 2022, PSG offered Mbappé the most lucrative contract in the club’s history, parading him before fans with a jersey printed with “2025.” However, the deal only ran until 2024, with an optional extension clause. Mbappé reportedly grew frustrated over unfulfilled promises, particularly regarding new player signings.

In June 2023, he informed PSG he would not activate the one-year extension. This forced the club into a dilemma: sell him or risk losing him for free. PSG attempted to sell Mbappé, even accepting a €300 million offer from Saudi club Al-Hilal, but he turned it down.

Mbappé’s legal team first announced in April their intention to sue PSG, citing the club’s treatment of him during the transfer standoff.

Despite the tensions, PSG went on to win the Champions League without him, while Mbappé was officially unveiled as a Real Madrid player at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in July 2024.

Zim Man caught with more than 30 stolen women’s p@nties for rituals

A Zimbabwean man has sent shockwaves through the Nemhari community after being accused of stealing over 30 women’s panties for use in disturbing sexual rituals known locally as mubobobo.

The suspect, identified as Augustine Marimo, allegedly targeted undergarments hung out to dry on washing lines and left in communal bathing areas. His actions were exposed during a traditional court session convened by Headman Nemhari, where several victims, Marimo, and his mother Fridah Chiweshe were summoned to answer to the community.

One of the women, who requested anonymity, said she initially attended the hearing out of curiosity to verify circulating rumours. However, she was left stunned when she recognised a pair of panties that once belonged to her late sister, an emotionally significant item she had not realised was missing. The thought that it had been used in a s3x ritual was described as “sickening.”

According to the woman, Marimo did not deny the accusations. Instead, he reportedly gave an unnerving account of how he used the stolen underwear. He allegedly confessed to placing the panties on his bed, masturbating on them, and imagining himself having s3x with the women they belonged to. He described the experiences as vividly real, despite the complete absence of consent or awareness from the women involved.

The same woman revealed that her marriage had begun to deteriorate around the time her underwear disappeared. She described how intimacy with her husband ceased nearly two years ago, and although he initially showed concern, their relationship had since grown distant and emotionally cold.

Further disturbing revelations emerged when Marimo reportedly claimed he was driven by a mysterious spiritual voice urging him to steal the panties and perform the rituals. He allegedly told the court that the voice warned him not to reveal its origin, threatening severe consequences if he disobeyed.

The case has stirred widespread outrage and fear in the community, with many questioning how long the practice may have gone undetected. Traditional leaders are now under pressure to address the incident and take decisive steps to restore trust and security among residents.

Ruud van Nistelrooy leaves Leicester City by mutual consent

0

Leicester City have confirmed the departure of Ruud van Nistelrooy as first team manager, ending months of speculation about his future following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

The announcement comes just over six weeks before the start of the new Championship season and follows a troubled summer for the Foxes, who also lost first-team coach Brian Barry-Murphy to Cardiff City earlier this month. Van Nistelrooy’s exit has been widely anticipated after Leicester endured a disastrous run of form last season, losing eight consecutive Premier League matches without scoring a single goal.

Speculation had suggested that the timing of the announcement was linked to the start of a new financial year, possibly to mitigate financial implications tied to the club’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Leicester now face a fresh threat of a points deduction, after the Premier League referred the club to an independent commission for further PSR violations.

In a statement following his exit, Van Nistelrooy said: “I would like to personally thank the Leicester City players, coaches, academy and all the staff I have worked with for their professionalism and dedication during my time at the club and to thank the fans for their support, and take this opportunity to wish the club well for the future.”

Appointed in November last year to replace Steve Cooper, Van Nistelrooy enjoyed a promising start with four points from his first two matches. However, optimism quickly turned to disillusionment as the team slumped to seven straight losses, including a damaging 3–0 defeat to fellow strugglers Wolves.

The January transfer window did little to help. With financial constraints looming, the club’s only signing was Parma full-back Woyo Coulibaly for £3 million, who made just one start. Tensions reportedly escalated between Van Nistelrooy and several players, including Jannik Vestergaard and Harry Winks, both of whom were left out of matchday squads for much of the campaign.

Though a 2–1 away win at Tottenham momentarily lifted spirits, it was followed by a 4–0 thrashing at Everton, the beginning of an eight-match scoreless streak that ultimately sealed the team’s relegation.

Criticism of Van Nistelrooy’s tactics and team selections mounted, especially his persistence with underperforming players like Wout Faes, James Justin, and Jordan Ayew. Fan frustration grew, though much of it was directed at the club’s hierarchy rather than the dugout.

Attention now turns to who will take the reins at the King Power Stadium. Leicester’s financial situation is expected to heavily influence their next appointment, with the club reportedly unwilling to pay compensation for a manager currently under contract. Among the frontrunners are former Burnley boss Sean Dyche and Michael Carrick, recently sacked by Middlesbrough. Both are out of work and considered viable due to their respective experience and affordability.

Dyche is said to be in talks with the club and has a relationship with Leicester’s Director of Football Jon Rudkin, while Carrick fits the mould of a young, progressive coach favoured by chairman Khun Top Srivaddhanaprabha. Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rohl is another possibility, though the cost of releasing him from his current role may be prohibitive.

Van Nistelrooy’s departure marks a tumultuous chapter in Leicester’s recent history, with the club now facing the twin challenges of Championship football and looming financial sanctions.

“Have more kids or population will collapse” – Elon Musk

Billionaire tech mogul, Elon Musk, has once again sparked conversations online — this time about population growth and the future of humanity.

In a series of tweets, Musk advised parents to aim for at least three children in order to balance out the global birth rate. According to him, failure to do so could lead to population collapse.

“People who have kids do need to have 3 kids to make up for those who have 0 or 1 kid or population will collapse,” he tweeted.

He went further to reference history, claiming that a declining birth rate played a major role in the fall of ancient Rome and other long-standing civilisations.

“Low birth rate was the primary factor in the fall of Rome and all civilizations that enjoyed an extended period of prosperity with no serious external threats. Shockingly overlooked by most historians,” Musk added.

The Tesla and SpaceX boss has always been vocal about population concerns, previously warning that a “population collapse” could be a bigger risk to civilization than climate change.

Diddy sued by man who claims he s0d0mised him

Diddy is facing a lawsuit from a man who alleges the music mogul sodomized him at a 2021 house party after saying, “You’re about to get that Diddy love.”

The plaintiff, Brandon Adams, claims he was invited to the party by a chauffeur he met at a Los Angeles gas station. According to the lawsuit obtained by TMZ, Adams says he was instructed to leave his phone in the car upon arrival. At the party, he says he saw several celebrities but did not interact with them, and after drinking alcohol, he felt dizzy.

Adams says he found an empty bedroom, lay down, and lost consciousness. He recalls waking to the sensation of a hand unbuckling his belt, followed by a voice he believes was Diddy’s saying, “You’re about to get that Diddy love.” Adams claims he was then rolled onto his side and told, “Don’t worry, you’re about to get a great massage,” before witnessing Diddy sodomizing him.

He alleges he protested, but Diddy allegedly grabbed the back of his neck and threatened him, reciting information from Adams’ driver’s license, which had reportedly been scanned by security on entry.

Adams says after the assault, he experienced pain and a “vile sensation.” When he tried to confront Diddy, security intervened, taking him to another room where he was given an ultimatum to either leave quietly or “the hard way.” Adams says he chose to comply and was made to sign a nondisclosure agreement before being escorted out.

Adams also claims he was arrested for DUI on his way home, attributing it to the “lingering effects of the drugs he unknowingly consumed” at the party.

The lawsuit, filed amid Diddy’s ongoing criminal trial, accuses him of sexual assault, battery, gender violence, and seeks damages. Adams is represented by Tony Buzbee, a Texas lawyer who has taken on multiple alleged victims of Diddy. Notably, none of Buzbee’s clients have testified in the current criminal proceedings against Diddy.

Diddy’s legal team responded, stating, “No matter how many lawsuits are filed it won’t change the fact that Mr. Combs has never s3xually assaulted or s3x trafficked anyone, man or woman, adult or minor. We live in a world where anyone can file a lawsuit for any reason. Fortunately, a fair and impartial judicial process exists to find the truth, and Mr. Combs is confident he will prevail in court.”

We would have killed Iran’s Supreme Leader if given the chance – Israel’s Defense Minister

0

Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, has stated that the country would have killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, during the recent war between the two nations if the opportunity had arisen.

“If he had been in our sights, we would have taken him out,” Katz told Israel’s public radio station, Kan, on Thursday evening. He added that the military had “searched a lot.”

According to Katz, Khamenei was aware of the threat and went into deep hiding. “He went very deep underground, broke off contact with the commanders… so in the end, it wasn’t realistic,” he said.

Speaking later to Channel 13, Katz said that Israel had halted its assassination attempts following the ceasefire. “There is a difference between before the ceasefire and after the ceasefire,” he explained.

During the war, Katz had declared that Khamenei “can no longer be allowed to exist,” a statement that followed reports suggesting the U.S. had vetoed Israeli plans to target him.

On Kan, Katz also issued a warning: “He should stay inside a bunker. He should learn from the late Nasrallah,” referencing former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in a Beirut airstrike in September 2024.

Khamenei’s movements have long been shrouded in secrecy, and he has not left Iran since assuming power. Katz emphasized that Israel retains aerial superiority over Iran and remains prepared to act again. “We won’t let Iran develop nuclear weapons or threaten us with long-range missiles,” he said.

In an interview with Channel 12, Katz admitted that Israel does not know the exact locations of all of Iran’s enriched uranium. However, he insisted that Israeli airstrikes had significantly damaged Iran’s nuclear enrichment capabilities.

“The material itself wasn’t what we were targeting,” he said. “But the infrastructure needed to process it has been hit hard.”

The effectiveness of Israeli and U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear program remains a subject of debate. A leaked U.S. intelligence report estimated that Iran’s program had been set back by only a few months, while Israeli and American officials claimed the damage could take years to repair.

The 12-day conflict between the two countries ended with a ceasefire on June 24, with both sides claiming victory.

Diddy and son Justin accused of gang-r@pe in bombshell new lawsuit

Justin Combs is accused of luring a Louisiana woman to Los Angeles to be gang-r@ped by his father, Sean “Diddy” Combs, and two other “masked men.”

According to a lawsuit obtained by Page Six, Justin allegedly convinced the unnamed woman to travel to California in April 2017 under the pretense that he would get her a job in the entertainment industry.

The woman claimed she was put up in a Beverly Hills home for several days and was ultimately r@ped by several men, including Diddy.

The woman alleged that she connected with Justin, now 31, in 2017 via Snapchat and claimed he asked her for explicit photos, to which she agreed.

According to the documents, a few days later, the woman alleged, Justin invited her to California for a weekend to discuss her future career.

She claimed that Justin said he could get her a job through Diddy’s connections.

When the woman arrived in Los Angeles, she said, she was picked up by a driver and taken to a home, where she allegedly stayed the first night with Justin.

According to the suit, the woman claimed she and Justin “relaxed” and “talked,” and when she asked if they were going to leave the home, he allegedly said, “No.”

On one of the days, the woman claimed he offered her alcohol, pills or “poppers” and weed that she believed to be laced.

After taking the drugs, she claimed, three men arrived at the home wearing masks, one of whom was allegedly Diddy, now 55.

The woman claimed she knew it was the “I’ll Be Missing You” rapper by his “mannerisms,” adding that Justin called him “Pops.”

She was then allegedly escorted to a bedroom and told, “You better let this happen. Or else.”

The woman claimed each man took turns r@ping her, claiming that the “brutal gang-r@pe” occurred from late Saturday to around midafternoon on Sunday.

She was allegedly taken to the airport on Monday.

Diddy’s attorney denied the allegations.

“No matter how many lawsuits are filed, it won’t change the fact that Mr. Combs has never s£xually assaulted or s£x trafficked anyone — man or woman, adult or minor,” a lawyer for the rapper said.

Trump says he has not ended the Russia-Ukraine war because Putin and Selenskyy are being difficult and resistant

At a press briefing during the NATO summit in The Hague, U.S. President Donald Trump addressed his administration’s ongoing struggle to broker a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war, admitting that negotiations have proven more challenging than anticipated.

When pressed by reporters on why he has not yet ended the conflict, Trump pointed to difficulties with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“Vladimir Putin has been more difficult, frankly I’ve had some problems with Zelenskyy … it’s been more difficult than other wars,” Trump replied to the reporters.

The remarks come amid heightened tensions, with Trump’s earlier efforts to mediate peace, including a proposed minerals deal with Ukraine, faltering after a contentious February 2025 Oval Office meeting with Zelenskyy.

That clash, marked by Trump accusing Zelenskyy of “gambling with World War III” and pausing U.S. military aid, underscored strained relations.

Despite a more productive meeting with Zelenskyy in April at Pope Francis’s funeral, Trump’s frustration was evident as he noted Putin’s determination and Zelenskyy’s resistance to surrendering.

Trump suggested progress is being made but emphasized the complexity of dealing with both leaders, stating, “I think we’ll talk about Ukraine” when asked about his upcoming meeting with Zelenskyy at the summit.

Trump also stated he helped secure peace between Rwanda and DR Congo, Egypt and Ethiopia, India and Pakistan, Serbia and Kosovo.

Donald Trump describe new NYC mayor, Zohran Mamdani as a lunatic, critisize Democrats backing him

0

President Donald Trump has repeatedly described Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for New York City mayor, as a “100% Communist Lunatic.

His recent one came in posts on Truth Social following Mamdani’s upset victory over Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic mayoral primary.

Trump criticized Mamdani’s appearance, voice, and intelligence, calling him “Terrible and not very smart.”

He also targeted Mamdani’s supporters, specifically mentioning Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Trump also sent critisms towards Representative Jasmine Crockett, referring to them as “Dummies ALL” and mocking Schumer as “our Great Palestinian Senator” who is “groveling over him.”

Trump suggested Mamdani’s win, alongside other progressive politicians, indicates “our Country is really screwed!”

He further claimed that the Democrats “have crossed the line” by nominating Mamdani, framing his victory as a significant and dangerous moment for the country.

Moment China unveiled the monster DF-5B missiles with a warhead 200x stronger than Hiroshima

0

A video of China’s DF-5B intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) was recently highlighted in state media, highliting the strong military equipments in their possession.

The DF-5B, an upgraded version of the Cold War-era DF-5, is a two-stage, silo-based missile with a range of approximately 12,000 km.

Intelligence reports has it that it is capable of striking targets across the continental United States and Western Europe.

It measures 32.6 meters in length, 3.35 meters in diameter, and weighs about 183 tons.

The missile can carry a single nuclear warhead with a yield of 3 to 4 megatons roughly 200 times more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb.

It is also said to be powerful that multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs), potentially up to 10 warheads, enhancing its ability to overwhelm missile defense systems.

The unveiling, reported by CCTV around early June, coincides with heightened U.S.-China tensions, particularly over Taiwan and the South China Sea. L

Analysts suggest this move may signal Beijing’s intent to showcase its nuclear deterrence or hint at more advanced capabilities, possibly as a response to U.S. military rhetoric.

Canada launches investigation into how dozens of suspected Iranian officials were allowed to enter Canada

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is investigating 66 cases of suspected senior Iranian officials.

The investigation is about how this officials entered Canada, despite a 2022 law barring such individuals from entering the country.

The report continued that the ban on this officials is due to their involvement in terrorism and human rights violations.

Out of the 66 suspecting officials, 20 have been identified as inadmissible, with one person already removed from Canada.

The CBSA has referred cases to the Immigration and Refugee Board for hearings to determine admissibility.

This follows Canada’s designation of the Iranian government and its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a regime engaging in terrorism and human rights abuses, with measures dating back to June 23, 2003, after the torture and killing of Iranian-Canadian journalist Zahra Kazemi.

Concerns from the Iranian diaspora and activists, including groups like StopIRGC, highlight that regime officials may be living in Canada, prompting calls for stricter enforcement and prosecutions.

The investigation has gained attention amid heightened tensions due to the Israel-Iran conflict.

Russian President Putin will not attend BRICS Summit in Brazil, he may be arrested due to an ICC arrest warrant

0

Russian President, Vladimir Putin will not be attending the upcoming BRICS Summit in Brazil this year.

The decision has been made by his administration due to an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The ICC issued the warrant in March 2023, accusing Putin of war crimes related to the Ukraine conflict, specifically the unlawful deportation of children.

Interestingly, Brazil happened to be an ICC member state which means it is obligated to arrest him if he enters the country.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed president Putin’s decision to the public in a press statement.

He stated that the president will participate in the summit virtually instead, prioritizing his safety.

This development highlights the ongoing tension between Russia and international legal bodies amid the Ukraine conflict.

Iranian parliament officially approves bill completely halting cooperation with International Atomic Energy Agency

0

Iran’s parliament approved a bill on June 25, 2025, to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The vote decision comes at the back of the U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on its nuclear facilities in Esfahan, Fordow, and Natanz.

The decision was passed with 221 votes in favor out of a total 223 members who were present and cast the vote.

If approved, it will halt IAEA inspections, surveillance camera installations, and reporting until the security of Iran’s nuclear sites is guaranteed.

Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf criticized the IAEA for not condemning the attacks and acting as a “political tool,” stating Iran would accelerate its civilian nuclear program.

The bill however awaits final approval from Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and Guardian Council.

The move responds to a June 2025 IAEA resolution censuring Iran for non-compliance, which Tehran claims justified the attacks.

VIDEO: Plot Underway to Smuggle Lungu’s Corpse To Zimbabwe, Says Prophet

A self-styled prophet has sparked fresh controversy after claiming that a secret plot is underway to smuggle the body of former Zambian President Edgar Lungu to Zimbabwe for burial. In a dramatic video statement, the preacher—who has built a reputation on sensational spiritual declarations—warned that Lungu’s spirit would “refuse to rest” if he is not buried in his homeland. The self-proclaimed man of God insists that the plan to relocate the late president’s remains is already sealed, accusing the family of ignoring spiritual consequences and warning of ancestral retribution.

The following is the full text of his proclamation:
So it’s very important that I share with you what I saw. Those of you that follow me—not jealously—those of you that follow me know that anything I say happens, any prophecy that I give happens.

There is a plan. In fact, a grave is already being dug for Edgar Lungu in Zimbabwe, making it the third grave. A grave is being dug in Zimbabwe. There is a plan to have a secret burial for President Lungu. Remove him from South Africa. In fact, as I’m speaking right now, the deal has already been concluded. Remove him from South Africa. Take him secretly to Zimbabwe and bury him. This plan is on the way.

Now, please, I’m no longer going to beg the family to do the right thing. They must do what they want. But let me say this to you: I gave a prophecy a few months ago concerning a war that is coming from Zimbabwe into Zambia. And many of you said, “Ah, that’s a false prophecy. It didn’t happen.” It didn’t happen—if not for the intervention and a quick move by the army of Zambia. By now, Zambia would have been something else.

That’s why it’s very, very important to have people with knowledge in these offices. That’s why I applaud the appointment of the army commander, the ZAF commander, the ZNS commander. These guys have been the best appointment ever in the history of Zambia. Because they are prompt. They move. They moved and quickly intervened. And that war was aborted. And that was our prayer.

Now, this is about to happen. I’m telling you that what I’m telling you now is already a deal that is sealed—something that has been done already and sealed—that Lungu’s body must be moved from South Africa to Zimbabwe and be buried.

If you do this, Lungu will not rest in peace. Lungu will fight. And that fight is going to be against the family. I have been begging, I’ve been pleading as a spiritual man. Forget about your pastor, or your bishop, or your apostle—those people don’t have power. There is no single person or prophet in Zambia. All these are upcoming people. They don’t understand spirituality. They don’t go deeper in the realm of the spirit. Don’t allow yourself to be deceived.

Once you bury Lungu in Zimbabwe or South Africa, his spirit will not rest in peace. His spirit will come after the family.

May I beg you once again to take him to Zambia and bury him so that he can join his ancestors in peace. His spirit is roaming all around the place. His spirit is not resting. His ancestors are waiting for him. They are calling him. But you want to bury him and dash him off to another people’s ancestors.

This is going to be very painful. If you see this video, this is the first time I’m asking you: share this video. Let it get to the family. Let their hearts melt. Let them take away all the hatred, all the bitterness that they have against President HH. Let them remember that President HH treated their father well. Let them remember that President HH refused to revenge the things that their father did to him.

Let them know that this is not about HH. HH is a president. He will rule. His time to live will come. He will live. But where somebody is laid to join his ancestors is forever.

Don’t say, “Let’s go and bury him.” Anyone that gave you this advice does not understand the spirituality. “Let’s go and bury him so that when another president comes into power, we go and exhume him.” Please. You are disturbing the spirit. You are disturbing the ancestors.

Where you bury someone is supposed to be where he lies forever and ever. From there, his spirit favors the family. From there, his spirit protects the family.

Please, don’t take Edgar Lungu to Zimbabwe to bury him.
The government of Zimbabwe, we are watching. I’ve given this prophecy and everyone is watching. If you don’t change and allow this to happen, you have put your name in the bad history books of Zambia and in the bad history books of the whole world.

WHY is the Government Desperately Fighting Over Edgar Lungu’s deceased Body? – Kasonde Mwenda C- EFF President

The BIG QUESTION??

WHY is the Government Desperately Fighting Over Edgar Lungu’s deceased Body? – Kasonde Mwenda C- EFF President

27th June 2025

Zambia has now crossed a dangerous threshold. The burial of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, scheduled to take place in South Africa, was officially halted not by the family but by the desperate Zambian government of Hakainde Hichilema

The Attorney General of the Republic of Zambia, Mulilo Kabesha, successfully secured an injunction from the High Court in Pretoria to stop the burial. This is no longer a legal strategy—it is an international embarrassment and a national tragedy.

The question every Zambian must now ask is: why is this government so desperate to control Edgar Lungu’s corpse?

This is no longer about state honours. This is no longer about protocol or patriotism. This is a raw, unsettling political power play over a dead man’s body. And it reeks of insecurity, desperation, and a disturbing attempt to rewrite legacy by force.

Let us speak plainly, what kind of government fights to own the dead while failing to serve the living? The justification offered, that President Lungu must be buried in Zambia with full honors is thin and unconvincing. Lungu died in South Africa.

His family, not the state, should have the final say in his burial arrangements. Yet the state, like a paranoid regime frightened even by a lifeless body, has invoked courts, lawyers, and diplomatic channels to seize control.

And for what?

To parade a coffin under military salute and claim moral high ground in death that it never earned in life? Or is this about suppressing the narrative of how Lungu died, where he died, and why he died outside his own country? These are the deeper questions haunting the nation—and the government knows it.

This is not how statesmen behave. This is how regimes operate when they fear ghosts of their own making.

Zambians are not fools. We know this is not about honors. It is about optics. It is about manipulation. It is about converting grief into a political weapon. While families mourn, the state plays games with the dead, and worse, uses the distraction to quietly advance constitutional changes behind our backs.

This is a tragedy, legal, moral, and national.

Instead of uniting the country in a moment of mourning, the government has embarrassed Zambia on the international stage. The world watches as a so-called democratic state litigates over burial rights in a foreign court, turning death into theatre and grief into government policy.

And make no mistake, while they drag Edgar Lungu’s body through courtroom battles, they are dragging Zambia’s democracy through the mud back home. The proposed constitutional amendments, returning deputy ministers, manipulating electoral boundaries, and shielding powerful individuals from future prosecution are still on the table. And now, conveniently cloaked by mourning and manufactured chaos.

Let this be a national wake-up call.

Zambia must not allow funeral theatrics to mask constitutional treachery. We must not allow a lifeless body to become a smokescreen for living betrayal. The citizens of this Republic must open their eyes to what is truly being buried here: truth, decency, and democracy.

This is not about Edgar Lungu. It’s about every Zambian. It’s about every right we stand to lose while we’re distracted by the coffin politics of a regime that fears both the past and the people.

Let history record this moment accurately, that while Zambia was mourning, those in power chose manipulation over dignity, politics over peace, and control over compassion.

We mourn the man.
But we must fight for the nation.

Because if a government can fight this hard to control a dead man, imagine what they are willing to do to control the living.

May God comfort the bereaved Lungu family as they traverse this trying moment . We are with you.

Wherever we want to go our feet will take us there.

Kasonde Mwenda C, Economic Freedom Fighters-EFF President

We shall continue public mourning … engage in memorial services until Lungu is buried – Lubinda

Lubinda vows continued mourning for Lungu amidst burial delay

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) acting president, Given Lubinda has declared that the mourning period for late former president Edgar Lungu will continue indefinitely until his body is finally laid to rest, regardless of location or timeline.

Speaking during a press briefing in South Africa this afternoon, Lubinda said the PF sympathisers and thousands of loyal Lungu mourners would not be silenced by court delays or political barriers.

Lubinda, who led the failed funeral entourage that had travelled to South Africa expecting to bury the late former president, said the party will now begin a series of memorial services as they await the outcome of a court process in Pretoria over the burial rights.

He described the late president as an “extraordinary man” whose send-off had been unfairly disrupted, forcing some mourners to return home with nothing but tears and empty wallets.

“We shall mourn him forever. We have even more time to prepare for a proper send-off. Wherever the burial will take place, there we shall be, in multitudes, to come and send off our dear departed president.”

The PF makeshift leader lamented how people had sold property and borrowed money just to witness Lungu’s burial in South Africa, only for the funeral to be blocked.

“We are determined that one day the mortal remains of Edgar Lungu shall be buried where it ought to be buried, back home in Zambia and that day shall certainly come and we will wait for that day,” added Lubinda.

As of today, a definitive date for Lungu’s burial remains unconfirmed, with legal proceedings ongoing in the South African court.

THE KAWECHE KAUNDA CASE: Who has rights to the Body?

THE KAWECHE KAUNDA CASE: Who has rights to the Body?
==================
FACTS:
In the case of The People v Secretary to the Cabinet Ex Parte Kaweche Kaunda (2021), heard in the High Court of Zambia on 7 July 2021, Kaweche Kaunda, one of the children of the late President Kenneth Kaunda, sought JUDICIAL REVIEW against the Secretary to the Cabinet (citing the Attorney General).

The core issue was the retention and disposal of Dr. Kenneth Kaunda’s remains and burial site. Kaweche alleged that the State, via government departments, had acted unlawfully and in contravention of both procedural fairness and the deceased’s wishes (as expressed by the family).

https://youtu.be/3wYw7VVgKEE?si=XENyfkirmWAf3_fW

HELD:
The High Court, presided over by Justice Muma, granted leave to apply for judicial review. The Court ordered that Kaweche’s application would operate as a stay, meaning any government decision concerning the remains or burial site would be put on hold PENDING FULL DETERMINATION of the case.
It is important to underscore the fact that Judicial review is available when it is alleged that;

1. State action is contrary to constitutional or procedural norms,
2. There is unfair handling, or
3. There is breach of known wishes of deceased persons or their families.

The grant of leave automatically triggers a stay halting any State action affecting the burial site until a full inquiry is conducted.

MY ANALYSIS:
It appears that in the current case; and after protracted negotiations; an amicable understanding between GRZ and the Kaunda family was reached. The case NEVER proceeded to full substantive trial to determine the case on its merits.

In other words, it is my considered opinion that there is NO PRECEDENT regarding the right of the State to the remains of a deceased Former Head of State. Put it simply, Zambia has in my opinion NO LAW in either Statute nor Case Law regarding the remains of a Former Head of State.

LUNGU’S FUNERAL IS NOW MONEY SPINNER FOR THE EVIL CARTEL

LUNGU’S FUNERAL IS NOW MONEY SPINNER FOR THE EVIL CARTEL

Edgar Chagwa Lungus funeral serves as a lesson to many of us, both politically and at a family level. It’s essential to groom our children and those around us to take over from us; otherwise, we might leave our families in significant difficulties. Unscrupulous individuals often take advantage of a lack of proper transition. Edgar Lungu has left both the party and his family in confusion, and opportunists are capitalizing on the situation to advance their agendas.

Makebi Zulu, a relative of Esther Lungu, appears to have taken over the funeral arrangements, and one wonders where Lungu’s sons are. I’m shocked to hear #Fredmmembe saying, “Lungu must be buried by friends.” Can we genuinely believe that Mmembe is a true friend of Edgar Lungu? The funeral has now turned into a spectacle.

The agenda to tarnish President Hakainde Hichilemas image didn’t start with Edgar Lungu’s funeral. Fred Mmembe previously used the Post Newspapers to portray HH as a tribalist and a bitter person, but God’s will prevailed. The Patriotic Front – PF did everything possible to stop Hakainde Hichilema, calling him all manner of evil names and dehumanizing him. Despite this, HH became President.

It’s clear that everyone deceiving the late President’s family is driven by selfish motives. We’re aware that this fight won’t cease because of certain individuals behind the PF who’ve lost business after losing elections. If Edgar Lungu had prepared his children to take over, opportunists wouldn’t be hijacking his funeral for political gain. Makebi Zulu is profiteering, just like Lubinda and Nakachinda. Lungu’s funeral has become a means to advance propaganda against President Hakainde Hichilema.

We commend President Hakainde Hichilema for standing strong in the face of organized hatred and propaganda. Just as he prevailed in the past, HH will triumph again. No weapon formed against him will prosper.

NOBODY WILL HAVE ACCESS TO LUNGU’S BODY UNTIL THE MATTER IS DETERMINED – MAKEBI ZULU

NOBODY WILL HAVE ACCESS TO LUNGU’S BODY UNTIL THE MATTER IS DETERMINED – MAKEBI ZULU

FAMILY Spokesperson Makebi Zulu has asserted that no one will have access to the body of former president Edgar Lungu, until the matter is determined by the courts of law in South Africa.

Zulu said the former first family was ready to give evidence before the Pretoria High Court that will exonerate them as well as the former Head of State.

This follows a fresh directive from the High Court in Pretoria, South Africa, which has asked Zambia’s Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha to file an application by July 3, 2025, stating reasons why the late president’s body should be returned to Zambia and not buried in South Africa.

In an application lodged before the Gauteng Division of the High Court in Pretoria, Kabesha is seeking to prevent the burial of Lungu in South Africa and sued Lungu’s widow, Esther, four of their children, Bertha, Tasila, Chiyesu and Dalitso, family lawyer Makebi Zulu and the funeral company Two Mountains Pty, which currently holds the remains.

The court has since set July 18, 2025 as the date for the ruling and until then, the court has suspended all burial plans.

However, Zulu said the government has given them an opportunity to tell a story of Lungu to the maximum in court because he must be exonerated in his death.

“Now onwards until his burial, the truth of Edgar Lungu shall be told, we shall tell it in a very systematic way in court, we shall tell the full story, how he came into South Africa as a private citizen, and how he used an Uber,” Zulu said.

He added that the family has been consistent in offering support to the former Head of State while alleging that the Government may not give Lungu a dignified burial.

“The family only wants to give him a dignified burial.”

“Government should come and say we are sorry we never treated him well, we are sorry we did wrong to him, now that he he dead, how can we make amends. Now people want to pretend to speak for him when they were never there for him,” Zulu further claimed.

He said Lungu is therefore calling for unity and sanity even in his death.

“Lungu is calling for peace and unity, he is fighting that people should not be prosecuted for doing what is right. This period is an opportunity for us to reflect out of this death,” he said.

Infighting in Exile, Alliance Tensions and PF Rift Deepen in Joburg

⬆️  Briefing | Infighting in Exile, Alliance Tensions and PF Rift Deepen in Joburg

A scheduled media briefing by the Tonse Alliance at Radisson Blu Hotel was this afternoon abruptly interrupted by an unidentified individual believed to be a security operative, amid a brewing internal dispute involving Zambia Republican Party leader Wright Musoma. The interruption has deepened questions around the Alliance’s internal coordination and South Africa’s reception of Zambian political activities on its soil.

What began as a unified front by Tonse leaders now appears fractured, with Alliance spokesperson Sean Tembo engaged in an escalating cold war with PF stalwarts Given Lubinda and Raphael Nakacinda. Though ideological differences are not new; Tembo once chaired a disciplinary process against both men during a turbulent period in the Alliance; it was the late President Edgar Lungu who intervened to block further disciplinary proceedings, effectively neutralizing Tembo at the time.

Now, in Lungu’s absence, old tensions are resurfacing with greater intensity.

裡 Lubinda Sidelined

PF acting president Given Lubinda was slated to speak to the press in Johannesburg today but failed to do so following internal frictions and suspicion of information leaks within PF’s Johannesburg operations. Our sources indicate that infighting over who controls the narrative, and possibly sensitive funeral documents, has led to paralysis in public communication from the former ruling party.

One PF insider, speaking on condition of anonymity, described the atmosphere as “toxic,” adding that accusations of sabotage are now commonplace in PF circles in South Africa. Raphael Nakacinda, once considered a consensus voice, has reportedly retreated from media appearances to avoid further escalation.

 Security Scrutiny Mounts

South African security officials are growing increasingly critical of the Zambian political presence, noting the unauthorized political briefings, “shadow diplomacy,” and the use of Johannesburg as a safe haven for political theatrics. What was initially an emotional farewell to a former president is now looking more like a protracted and diplomatically sensitive standoff.

The Ministry of International Relations in Pretoria has not yet issued a formal rebuke, but officials have privately expressed frustration over the political storm brewing under their jurisdiction.

️ Awaiting Foreign Affairs Minister Haimbe

All eyes are now on Zambia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mulambo Haimbe, who is speaking to SABC News. Haimbe is expected to clarify Zambia’s official diplomatic posture, address the legal and political ramifications of the burial standoff, and respond to growing public calls for regional de-escalation.

The People’s Brief will continue monitoring developments and will bring breaking insights as the story unfolds across two capitals, two narratives, and one politically charged legacy.
