SP YOUTHS CALL FOR RADICAL CHANGE

…as Muba’sa criticizes government’s approach to youth development for lacking a structured plan to support young people in their areas of interest

Johannesburg… Wednesday March 12, 2025

The Socialist Party has strongly criticized the current administration’s approach to youth development, arguing that it lacks a structured and intentional plan to support young people in their areas of interest.

Speaking on Youth Day, the party’s National Youth Secretary, Stanley Muba’sa, emphasized the need for a systematic approach that actively involves the youth in shaping their own future.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BqVnoUVzW/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Mr. Muba’sa stated that real change can only be achieved through the full participation of young people.

He argued that the current system exploits jobless and poorly paid youths to create wealth for a select few politicians and their business associates.

He insisted that a radical shift was necessary—one that placed unemployed and underpaid youth at the center of economic activities, rather than using them as mere political instruments.

The Socialist Party reaffirmed its belief that young people are key players in development.

Mr. Muba’sa claimed that the Youth Agenda under the present administration was non-existent, stating that it had been reduced to cooperative programs and ‘cash for work’ initiatives, which he described as a mere strategy to secure votes.

He further underscored that these policies had left the majority of young people in extreme poverty, without access to basic needs, and forced both educated and uneducated youth to beg for jobs from the same individuals who misled them during political campaigns.

The Socialist Party’s proposed Youth Agenda focuses on several key areas, including education and agriculture.

Mr. Muba’sa stressed the importance of a quality education system tailored to the nation’s aspirations, rather than one that merely produces job seekers.

He revealed that under a Socialist administration, 25% of the national budget would be allocated to education to fight illiteracy, promote research and development, and improve both learning institutions and the working conditions of educators.

On agriculture, the Socialist Party pledged to ensure food sovereignty through short- and long-term plans.

Mr. Muba’sa stated that the sector would provide job opportunities for young people with various skills.

He added that the party would facilitate access to agricultural equipment through specialized banks while collaborating with the Ministry of Agriculture to boost production.

Furthermore, he proposed that farm produce be processed into finished products in industries co-owned by the state and private Zambian investors, ensuring market access for farmers and creating jobs for both skilled and unskilled workers.

Mr. Muba’sa also expressed confidence that Zambia could transition from importing food to exporting it, which he claimed would result in job creation and strengthen the country’s currency.

He argued that improved purchasing power would promote cross-border trade and economic stability.

As Youth Day celebrations unfolds, Muba’sa has accused the UPND government of making empty promises, disturbed at how officials would claim poverty levels had decreased due to Constituency Development Fund (CDF) initiatives.

However, he insisted that young people knew the truth, as many continued to struggle with basic needs, including food, electricity, housing, and tuition fees.

He further pointed out that the harsh economic realities had contributed to rising suicide cases among the youth.

He concluded by stating that real solutions had been provided, “but meaningful change could only begin by removing those who had weaponized political power for personal economic gain.”

“THE USD 10 MILLION FIFA FUNDING IS A LÍE!” – KASHALA CALLS OUT THE N0NSENSE

During the manifesto launch of FAZ presidential candidate Adrian Kashala at Hotel Elementos, one of the burning questions came from journalist Phillip Banda. He asked about the so-called USD 10 million FIFA Forward funding, a figure critics have been throwing around to claim that Kashala is more interested in money than in developing Zambian football.

Kashala, however, shut down this claim, calling it what it is: a complete fabrication designed to mislead the public. He made it clear that there is no such thing as a lump sum of USD 10 million sitting somewhere for FAZ to grab.

In his defense, Kashala outlined his hands-on approach to football development, sharing how he personally traveled to Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt to study their world-class technical centers—massive facilities with shopping malls, gyms, hotels, and multiple pitches. Based on FIFA’s advice, he spearheaded efforts to secure 80 hectares of land in Chongwe for FAZ’s own technical center.

Now, here’s where it gets hilarious: Kashala pointed out that no feasibility studies have even been conducted to determine the actual cost of the project—so where on earth did his critics pull the USD 10 million figure from? The air? Their dreams? A WhatsApp group?

He further explained that FIFA Forward 3.0, the current funding cycle, distributes a maximum of USD 4 million to each association in phases—strictly based on projects and progress. Meaning, even if Zambia wanted USD 10 million, FIFA simply doesn’t operate like a “Kantemba” (a small roadside shop) where you can just walk in and cash out. FIFA has compliance officers and auditors who monitor every cent before funds are released in stages—strictly for football development, not personal gain.

To those eyeing the FAZ presidency in hopes of swimming in non-existent millions, Kashala had a clear message: “You’re chasing a ghost. FIFA doesn’t operate like your local money-lending scheme!”

The truth, according to Kashala, is simple: He is in this race to transform Zambian football, not to chase fantasy funds.

Zim Police Officer Takes Own Life Citing Economic Hardships

Zimbabwe In Shock As Police Officer Takes Own Life Over Economic Hardships
Zimbabwe has been left in shock after a police officer took his own life, citing economic hardships. Constable Claude Jele, who was stationed in Gweru, left behind a heartbreaking note explaining his decision.

“Having survived all these 38 years, I have reached a point where I feel like it’s all the same being on this earth or leaving,” he wrote. “So please do not accuse anyone or anything. It’s my personal decision to end my life this way.”

Suicide Note Details Final Thoughts
Jele’s final words paint a picture of despair and resignation. He apologised to his family and urged them to move on.

“I know you will be hurt, but I do not see a reason to keep living. I have failed,” he wrote in Shona. “Ganizani and Keisha, it will hurt you, but please forgive me. Grow up well, I have gone ahead.”

He also reassured his wife that she should not blame herself for his actions.

“Mai Keisha, do not think it is your fault. We were doing just fine,” he wrote.

Jele included the names and contact details of two people whom he wanted to be informed about his passing.

Wave Of Tragedy As Another Man Records His Death
Jele’s death comes just days after another Zimbabwean man, Charles Chindundundu, recorded himself taking poison and posted it on WhatsApp.

In his final video, Chindundundu said:

“Sometimes life is just like this. We make decisions that seem right to us. Some people will be hurt, but they will heal.”

He later updated his WhatsApp status to read:

“Mission completed. Best decision ever. Soul leaving.”

Reactions To The Tragic News
Social media has been flooded with messages of sorrow and frustration. Some people are calling for urgent action to address economic difficulties in the country.

Political activist Fortune Daniel Molokele commented:

“Alas! This is a national tragedy. His death could have been easily avoided. Zimbabwe is NOT poor. It has a big problem with poor political leadership. Zanu-PF must go now!”

Another social media user, Noah M. Mpofu, shared his thoughts:

“This is very depressing indeed. If it is true, one would have wished these guys, instead of ending their lives, could deal with the situations that are taking them down.”

The back-to-back suicides have raised serious concerns about the mental health crisis in Zimbabwe, with many calling for more support systems to be put in place.

Ne-Yo Reveals Identify Of His Four Girlfriends; Plans To Add More

Singer Ne-Yo has officially introduced his four girlfriends to the world. He recently took to Instagram to introduce the ladies, indicating their respective nicknames.

“Since the world is so intrigued, I guess I should introduce my loves properly. Ladies and gents, I present my pyramid….say something nice or move on with your life. We happy over here,” he wrote in the caption.

The ladies are Cristina aka “Pretty Baby,” Arielle aka “Twin Flame,” Moneii aka “Phoenix Feather” and Bri aka “Sexy Lil Something.”

He has been criticised over his polyamorous lifestyle, but he seems content with the multiple relationships.

Appearing on a radio show in Los Angeles recently, he touched on how the relationship was working for him.

“I do partnership, not ownership,” he stated. “I don’t even want to own you. I want a partner in this situation…

“I don’t demand exclusivity or ask for it, nothing like that…If you offer it and I accept [then] there are rules to follow, but nothing is above a conversation as long as we’re being honest,” he stated.

On the same show, the award-winning performer added that sex was not his main goal in having multiple women in his life.

“See, people get caught up on the sexual element of it… If the only reason you’re doing it is for the sexual part if it, you’re bound to fail,” the singer said.

The father of seven noted that the women serve as support for his children, as they can step in while he undertakes his busy schedules.

“Me being as busy as I am, I’m rarely home… and God bless my kids for them being understanding… but if you want your [Roblox] and your V-bucks and Jordans, daddy got to go to work…

“And while daddy’s at work, this one’s gonna cook dinner and this one is gonna make breakfast, and this one’s gonna get you ready for school,” he explained.

Appearing on the Lemon Drop podcast, he justified his polyamorous stands, stressing that Monogamy is for you, it’s not for me.”

On February 19, 2025, he took to his Instagram Story to fire back at critics, writing: “Ne-Yo we don’t approve of your relationship…Fun Fact: I don’t care.”

He has hinted at adding more girlfriends to his lineup, but that will depend on how much money he has and who comes along.

“No specific cap, it just depends on who I vibe with and who vibes with me…As many as you can afford, that’s how it works,” he stated.

Wicknell Chivayo has firmly denied paying a staggering US$300,000 as lobola for his fiancée, Lucy Mutek

contrary to widespread rumours, Wicknell Chivayo has firmly denied paying a staggering US$300,000 as lobola for his fiancée, Lucy Muteke. The Harare-based businessman, known for his flamboyant lifestyle, clarified that the reported figure was grossly exaggerated and did not reflect the actual amount given to his in-laws.

In an exclusive interview with H-Metro, Chivayo explained that while the ceremony was grand, the lobola payment was a fraction of the total expenses. He emphasized that the US$300,000 figure circulating in the media encompassed the entire cost of the event, including entertainment, decor, and other logistical arrangements.

Wicknell Chivayo Reveals The True Cost of Lobola
Chivayo revealed that the actual lobola payment to his in-laws was significantly less than the speculated amount. Wicknell stated that his in-laws charged him not more than US$20,000 for their daughter’s lobola. He further shared that the charged amount was like the normal lobola other people charge.

He elaborated that most expenditure went toward organizing the lavish ceremony, featuring top-tier entertainment, exquisite decor, and premium beverages. The event, held in Marondera, was a spectacle that could easily rival high-profile weddings in international destinations like Milan, Italy.

A Humble and Understanding Family
Chivayo praised his in-laws for their humility and understanding during the lobola negotiations. He described them as reasonable and respectful, ensuring that the traditional ceremony remained within the customary financial boundaries.

Chivayo sent a messenger with US$50,000 to cover the lobola requirements to facilitate the process. To his surprise, the messenger returned with a significant portion of the money, confirming that the in-laws’ demands had been fully met. H shared that he had prepared an additional US$75,000 as a contingency, which remained unused.

A Ceremony Fit for Royalty
The Marondera venue was transformed into a luxurious setting, meticulously decorated by renowned wedding planner Kevin Zhou. The burnt orange and blue hues created a regal ambience, making the event a memorable experience for all attendees. Popular MC Maimba Mapuranga expertly directed the ceremony and ensured that every detail was executed flawlessly.

Entertainment was a highlight of the event, with performances by some of Zimbabwe’s most celebrated artists, including Jah Prayzah, Killer T, Enzo Ishall, and the Travellerz Band. Guests dressed in the ceremony’s theme colours further enhanced the festive atmosphere, adding to the overall grandeur of the occasion.

R. Kelly Performs Two Hit Songs from Prison on Podcast Phone Call

Though embattled singer R. Kelly is in Prison, he has not abandoned his talent; in a recent podcast, the artiste showcased his singing abilities.

In the March 2 episode of the Inmate Tea With A&P podcast, the 58-year-old Chicago crooner says he was instructed to ring in and “sing happy birthday to somebody.”

However, his debut song was a brief cover of When A Woman’s Fed Up, a song from 1998. After humorously singing the opening to Kelly’s song Bump n’ Grind,” the show’s producer tells Kelly to “finish it off, man, I can’t do it like you!”

“I appreciate the love, man.I appreciate you for knowing the words,” Kelly replied.

In response to the question of whether he would be “able to continue singing in there and doing what you do best,” the singer said, “Well, singing is a beautiful disease that’s incurable.” Stop singing, since that won’t happen. Where I am is irrelevant to me. I’m always writing and singing. I’ve written over 25 CDs while I’ve been here, and at the moment, all I’m working on is leaving. Right now, I’m employing the strategy of patience.

R. Kelly then talked candidly about the food he has been consuming while jailed, showing that it isn’t always as horrible as people think. He went on to highlight how his optimistic approach has enabled him to cope with his present circumstances.

When asked if he could sing one more song for the crew, Kelly obliged with a shortened rendition of “Step In The Name Of Love” after thanking the podcast for their support.

Kelly was convicted in July 2022 of nine counts of racketeering and sex trafficking in New York City and is presently serving a 30-year jail term. Two months later, he received a separate 20-year sentence after being found guilty on three of four charges of producing child pornography and three of five counts of enticing a juvenile to participate in illegal sexual behavior in Chicago.

Hairstylist charged after dragging 15-year-old client across shop floor over $150

video shows Maryland hairstylist Jayla Cunningham dragging a 15-year-old client across a salon floor over a disagreement over a $150 payment. Cunningham has since been charged with second-degree assault.

Cunningham, 18, claimed she had just finished putting a weave on for the client when a quarrel occurred over payment. The New York Post reports that the altercation, which happened inside a hair salon in Prince George County earlier this month, has gone viral and caused a lot of controversy.

The teen claimed to have sent the money via Cash App, but Cunningham never got it, according to Fox5 DC.

Cunningham grabbed the girl by the sweatshirt and dragged her back into the salon as she tried to leave.

“She ran. Forget trash; she ran without paying me,” Cunningham told the outlet. Security footage caught the hairstylist dragging the teen down a hallway and into a separate room near a garbage bag.

Cunningham is heard in the video telling the girl to remain on the ground as she goes to get scissors to take off her freshly done hairstyle.

“Sit right here until somebody sends it. I’m not f—— playing. You just tried to f—— run. You lucky I ain’t beat the s— out you,” Cunningham said, in the video obtained by Fox 5 DC.

Cunningham stepped out of the corridor for a moment, then returned to gaze into the camera that captured the whole event.

“I dragged her by her hood back into the salon until I could get paid or, you know, until the police come or until, you know, she let me take out the service, because it’s like she literally ran outside, like she was about to be gone,” Cunningham explained.

Later, the mother of the client explained that the confusion resulted from her daughter sending the payment to an incorrect account by mistake.

“It’s just absolutely absurd. It’s viral. It’s all over the country,” the disheartened mother told the outlet.

According to the teen’s mother, Cunningham scared her daughter by allegedly yanking her hair while she was snatching her hoodie. The family’s lawyer, De’Aja Thompson, called the video “horrendous.”

Thompson told People “It’s a 15-year-old girl. We’re talking about someone’s child here. A child who is being dragged across a salon floor by her jacket over something as simple as a mistake.”

The mother emphasized the emotional toll the incident has taken on her daughter and echoed the lawyer’s thoughts. Meanwhile, Cunningham, also known as Jayla Amora on social media, defended the way she behaved, arguing she was merely attempting to protect herself from losing money.

“I feel like if I didn’t do that, she would have been gone and I would have just never been paid,” Cunningham said.

On March 5, the Prince George County District Attorney’s Office filed criminal charges against Cunningham. According to court documents, a preliminary hearing in the case is planned for April 18.

Cunningham was previously charged with three counts of second-degree assault in an unrelated case filed on October 4, 2024, by the Hyattsville Police Department. The case’s hearing is scheduled for March 18.

It is unclear if Cunningham has obtained legal counsel for the most recent accusation.

The family of the teen client hired Jackson and Associates, a law firm in Upper Marlboro, to handle their case.

Manchester United Unveils Plans To Build Biggest Stadium In UK

0

Manchester United have announced plans to build the biggest stadium in the United Kingdom; the construction will cost the club £2bn.

The Red Devils will leave Old Trafford after spending over 100 years in the stadium. The new iconic edifice is expected to have a 100,000-seat capacity.

The new stadium is expected to take five years to construct.

It will be the largest stadium in the United Kingdom and will be built on club-owned land adjacent to Old Trafford.

The club confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday on their website.

The statement reads: “Manchester United has thrown its support behind the government’s growth agenda by announcing its intention to pursue a new 100,000-seater stadium as the centrepiece of the regeneration of the Old Trafford area.”

Manchester United have spent the last 115 years at Old Trafford, which currently holds nearly 74,000 spectators.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of Manchester United, opened up on the need for a new stadium, admitting that Old Trafford has fallen behind the best stadiums in the world.

He said: “Today marks the start of an incredibly exciting journey to the delivery of what will be the world’s greatest football stadium, at the centre of a regenerated Old Trafford.

“Our current stadium has served us brilliantly for the past 115 years, but it has fallen behind the best arenas in world sport. By building next to the existing site, we will be able to preserve the essence of Old Trafford while creating a truly state-of-the-art stadium that transforms the fan experience, only footsteps from our historic home.

“Just as important is the opportunity for a new stadium to be the catalyst for social and economic renewal of the Old Trafford area, creating jobs and investment, not just during the construction phase, but on a lasting basis when the stadium district is complete.

“The Government has identified infrastructure investment as a strategic priority, particularly in the north of England, and we are proud to be supporting that mission with this project of national, as well as local, significance.”

The new stadium will feature an umbrella design that, according to its architects, will harvest solar energy and rainwater.

It will also include three masts that will make the new stadium visible from 40 km away.

The new stadium and wider regeneration project is expected to deliver an additional £7.3bn to the UK economy annually, alongside the creation of 92,000 new jobs and more than 17,000 new homes.

The U.K. government has already voiced its support for the project.

Wembley is currently the biggest stadium in the U.K., with a capacity of 90,000.

Hichilema and UPND should  be transparent and not use backdoor methods to manipulate Constitution amendments- UKA

President Hichilema and UPND should  be transparent and not use backdoor methods to manipulate Constitution amendments

10-03-2025, Lusaka Province Zambia.

The United Kwacha Alliance- UKA is disappointed and suddened with the remarks by President Hakainde Hichilema in his recent remarks as he is being quoted in media platforms wanting to amend the Constitution using the backdoor method.

We strongly disagree with President Hichilema’s recent  shocking remarks on Constitutional reforms and challenge him to use the correct method to amend the Constitution.

We want to put it on record that, the President’s statement saying that  “we have agreed to amend the Constitution” is not only shocking but a clear indication of manipulation tactics or Imingalato.

We seriously and honestly ask him. ‘You have agreed with who to amend the Constitution Mr President Hakainde Hichilema?’ It is heartbreaking to hear such misleading statements to suggest dubious means and ways of amendments concerning the sacred document of the country- the Supreme law of the land.

Why did the President choose to say what he said on Women’s Day and promise women all sorts of things? Is it because he knows that he has really failed the women in Zambia so knew what they would be happy to hear? We need action and not lip service and also not crowding women issues with so many contentious issues of the Constitution.

As UKA, we ask the question- Why the sudden urgency to amend the Constitution, and what other changes can we expect? Rather than accusing the opposition of  wanton arm twisting and emotional blackmail, the UPND should focus on providing transparent and inclusive leadership on national matters.

The Zambian people deserve clear answers, not semantic gymnastics and cheap politics. We strongly demand a  national dialogue on Constitutional amendments and without doing so will damage the imagine of our country and breakdown the many positive steps Zambia has made in promoting and upholding democratic processes.

We want to encourage President Hichilema to be honest in his role as a National leader and not to abuse his Constitutional powers by being careless and promoting undemocratic roadmaps to amend the Republican Constitution.

This Constitution is not a UPND issue, but a national matter. He should be calling for a genuine national conversation about Constitutional reforms, rather than attempting to manipulate the process.

We challenge Mr Hakainde Hichilema and UPND not to corrupt some PF MPs by promising them resources, partnerships and adoptions in 2026 general elections as this undermines the democratic processes and the progress Zambia has made. Let the legal process take its form and not otherwise.

We know that the UPND has lost popularity and the ground has shifted beneath them. The Zambian people no longer want them and come 2026 ‘kuyabebele.’ So these political maneuvers are a clear indication of President Hichilema’s and the UPND’s desperation to cling onto power for a long time, despite lamentably failing at the job.

We urge President Hichilema and the UPND to respect the Constitution, the Zambian people and the democratic process. Any attempts to manipulate the Constitution or undermine the rule of law will be met with fierce resistance from the Zambian people.

As United Kwacha Alliance- UKA, We expect and demand transparency, accountability, and free and fair elections, and we will not settle for anything less.

We have a lot of national issues to address and prepare before 2026 elections. May the President address the economy which is shrinking every day, Aid freeze by USA, the ever increasing load shedding which has killed businesses, failed CDF and the disputed Census by his appointed officials, among other national matters of public importance that need accountability.

We know how  uncomfortable the President is because he has lost touch. The reality of losing power is fast approaching and the UPND can only rely on buying people through manipulations and unconstitutional statements.

Most importantly, we earnestly appeal to the UPND to move away from manipulation of information and lies and focus on building trust and credibility by being honest with the Zambian people. They should promote a culture of honesty and accountability and strengthen a more transparent and effective government.

TONSE ALLIANCE YOUTHS TO ATTEND PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S YOUTH INDABA

TONSE ALLIANCE YOUTHS TO ATTEND PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S YOUTH INDABA

…as they resolve to challenge the Head of State on critical issues affecting the nation

Lusaka… Tuesday March 11, 2025 ( SMART EAGLES)

The Tonse Alliance youths have confirmed their participation in the upcoming National Youth Indaba, scheduled for March 14-15, 2025.

The youths have resolved to challenge President Hakainde Hichilema on concerns over the cost of living, police misconduct, constitutional amendments, employment, tribal tensions and concerns over the Registrar of Societies.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Lusaka lawyer and aspiring Matero Constituency candidate, Celestine Mambula Mukandila, stated that they recognize President Hichilema as the country’s only Republican President and believe he is the one capable of addressing the nation’s challenges.

CONCERNS OVER THE COST OF LIVING

Mr. Mukandila has said the youths intend to question the President on the high cost of living, asking for transparency on government efforts to resolve the issue.

He emphasized that governance demands accountability and that young people deserve clear communication on what measures are being implemented to address economic hardships.

Additionally, he questioned the President’s stance on UPND Members of Parliament who recently walked out of the National Assembly during a debate on the cost of living crisis, suggesting that such actions raised concerns about their commitment to addressing the people’s struggles.

POLICE MISCONDUCT

Mr. Mukandila also raised concerns over police conduct, stating that President Hichilema had previously directed law enforcement officers not to make arrests before completing investigations.

However, he stated that some police officers were failing to adhere to this directive, citing his personal experience of being detained without proper investigation.

He questioned why the President had not taken action against such officers and whether they were acting under instructions from himself as Commander-In-Chief.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS

The youths also plan to challenge the President on his stance regarding constitutional amendments.

Mr. Mukandila recalled that while in opposition, President Hichilema had opposed constitutional changes proposed by the Patriotic Front (PF), arguing that they were aimed at manipulating elections.

Now, he said, the government was pushing for amendments, including proportional representation and delimitation exercises—proposals that were previously rejected in Bill 10.

He argued that the constitutional amendment process should be inclusive and not dictated by the ruling party’s majority in Parliament.

He warned against a unilateral approach, stating that the Constitution belongs to all Zambians and must reflect the will of the people rather than the interests of a select group.

EMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMIC CHALLENGES

The youths further expressed concern over the lack of job opportunities, highlighting the recent closure of over 20 processing plants in Serenje due to electricity shortages.

Mr. Mukandila noted that the affected plants, which process silica manganese, had been major contributors to the national economy and that their shutdown had left over 3,000 youths unemployed.

He accused the government of failing to prioritize industrial diversification and relying too heavily on copper mining while neglecting other vital sectors.

TRIBAL TENSIONS AND GOVERNANCE

Mr. Mukandila underscored that the current administration had failed to foster national unity, stating that cases of hate speech targeting a specific ethnic group had increased under President Hichilema’s leadership.

He questioned whether the government was taking a fair approach in addressing tribal divisions and called for decisive action to promote inclusivity.

CONCERNS OVER THE REGISTRAR OF SOCIETIES

The youths also raised issues surrounding the Registrar of Societies, stating that the President had recognized Robert Chabinga as the leader of the Patriotic Front despite “the fraudulent manner he took over office.”

Mr. Mukandila suggested that such recognition amounted to aiding and abetting fraudulent activities, calling on the government to uphold the rule of law.

CALL FOR HONEST LEADERSHIP

In conclusion, the Matero strongman emphasized that the youths were seeking honest answers from the President, arguing that genuine dialogue was essential for democracy, governance, and development.

He urged the government to respect the people by being truthful and ensuring that governance decisions reflect the collective interests of all Zambians.

I condemn Francis Kapwepwe (Why Me) for his unacceptable attack against  Tonga people- Miles Sampa

*About attacks on the Tonga good people of the Southern Province and the Bemba good people of Northern Province*

Today, I want to take a moment to address the kind of politics that I and my supporters stand against. We believe in respectful dialogue, not insulting or personal attacks. Our focus is on uplifting each other, not tearing each other down.

We recognize that differences in opinion are what make our democracy strong, but we also believe that those differences should be discussed with civility and respect. Let’s work together to create a space where everyone feels heard, valued, and respected.

To be specific; I condemn any form of tribal or ethnic attacks on the good people of Southern Province and likewise I condemn any form of attacks on the good people of Northern province or any other of the 10 provinces of Zambia. Anyone that engages  in vices against unity of  tribes in all 10 provinces of Zambia, is an enemy of peace to our Nation.

I equally condemn those that use tribe to play victim when in reality they are the tribalism aggressors. We all (& our offsprings genes) will be on this land called Zambia forever and  must therefore live in harmony, peace and love for each other as One Zambia ; One Nation.

Incidentally and on a micro level,  I live in a non tribal family life as love is what bound us together and not our parental tribes. It’s possible even on a macro level where the entire nation should be bound by national patriotism, love and not historical ethnicity. I invited all of us to join hands in promoting a culture of kindness, empathy, and constructive dialogue.

I will therefore stand with anyone victimized on tribal lines be it a Tonga person, Bemba or any other and condemn anyone that champions tribalism on them. Consequently I condemn Francis Kapwepwe (Why Me) for his recent unacceptable tirades gone viral on social media against the Tonga people of Southern province.

I had actually hopped to meet him in person after his incarceration in Livingstone but somewhow he was ‘hijacked’ when released  & whisked away to Lusaka behind my back by known people and did not get to meet him. I have therefore never seen, met or ever spoken to him one on one in person or via phone before and after his imprisonment. Just encountered him on Tik Tok twice in the early years of his prominence.

My reaching out to him in Livingstone then was in line with my nature of offering emotional and moral support to those in trouble be it in trouble with the law or otherwise but does not mean I agree or support their offences be it criminal or civil. It’s just my Biblical belief and offer the gesture to everyone that I possibly can.

My plan had I met him upon being released out of the Livingstone prison, was to counsel him on how to stay out of trouble with the law as he expresses his political opinion. The only time ever met him in person was inside the court room session in Livingstone and never got to speak. When visited him twice in prison, never got to see him.

I am however still hopeful to meet him so can counsel him. I choose to help him with correctional advice and activities so he can reform permanently from insulting the Tonga people and any other of the 73 tribes of Zambia .

We are a beacon of tribal peace in Africa and we must defend that status. Let us show the World that we can disagree without being disagreeable. Politics aside, tribalism is wrong and must be fought by every well meaning Zambian.

PROVIDE CLEAR INFORMATION UPDATES TO CITIZENS ON DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAMMES, GOVERNMENT CHALLENGES PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICERS

PROVIDE CLEAR INFORMATION UPDATES TO CITIZENS ON DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAMMES, GOVERNMENT CHALLENGES PROS

CHOMA: The Government has called on public relations officers (PROs) in all 116 Local Authorities to provide a clear communication framework that will provide accurate, timely, and impactful information to Citizens on various developmental and empowerment projects.

Minister of Information and Media Hon. Cornelus Mweetwa, MP, further stressed that PROs should play a pivotal role in ensuring that citizens are well-informed, engaged, and become active participants in governance and development of their communities.

Hon Mweetwa, who is also Chief Government spokesperson, reminded Local Authorities that they are at the frontline of service delivery, and should ensure timely information is disseminated to enable citizens to understand how they can benefit from various empowerment programmes.

The Minister was speaking in Choma District when he officially opened a two-day training workshop for public relations officers, and principal officers from Local Authorities in Lusaka, Southern and Western Provinces.

Hon Mweetwa cited one of the most transformative initiatives of the Government that needs timely dissemination of information to communities as the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), which has become a game-changer in improving the lives of citizens across the country.

“Therefore, communication should be an integral part of all aspects of governance. It is critical that you, as PROs, invest in the right communication channels-whether it is community radio, social media, town hall meetings, mobile public announcements, or print materials in local languages. You must move beyond traditional approaches and embrace innovative methods that allow you to reach every corner of our constituencies,” Hon Mweetwa said.

The Minister said CDF is as an empowerment programme that is improving the livelihood of communities by facilitating the construction of schools, health centers, market shelters, and other infrastructure projects that bring services closer to communities.

The fund has further provided bursaries for vulnerable students, empowered women and youth through grants, and promoted entrepreneurship through access to loans.

Hon Mweetwa, however said, if the impact of CDF was to be fully realized, there was need for PROs to continue to reach out to communities in the most effective as well as getting feedback.

He said feedback from the communities is also critical because communication is a two-way mechanism that creates avenues for communities to provide input, ask questions, and share their concerns.

“In this regard, PROs must act as the bridge between the people and Local Authorities, ensuring transparency and accountability in the implementation of the CDF and other developmental programmes to the grassroots with information in a language and format they understand,” he said.

The Minister also urged Council Secretaries and Town Clerks to support PROs in their communication platforms to enhance more public awareness and participation of citizens in developmental programmes in their communities.

KEEMBE  ANTICIPATE MASSIVE TRANSFORMATION  As the Constituency procures New Earth moving equipment.

KEEMBE  ANTICIPATE MASSIVE TRANSFORMATION

………As the Constituency procures New Earth moving equipment.

March 11,2025

President Hakainde Hichilema’s enhanced Constituency Development Fund (CDF) is transforming lives across all 156 constituencies in Zambia.

Keembe Constituency has taken a major step forward by procuring earthmoving equipment to improve road infrastructure and boost economic activities.

Under the CDF, Chibombo Town Council has purchased a grader worth K5.5 million, a tractor-loader-backhoe (TLB) valued at K2.1 million, and a tipper truck costing K1.998 million.

Keembe Member of Parliament Princess Kasune said the earthmoving machines will rehabilitate and maintain roads, making transportation easier for the people.

She added that better roads will enable farmers and traders in Keembe to transport their goods more efficiently to larger markets such as Lusaka.

The lawmaker said once the roads are worked on after the rains, Keembe will experience significant development and improved connectivity.

Mrs Kasune said improved accessibility will reduce post-harvest losses, allowing farmers to earn better profits from their produce.

Keembe Member of Parliament said women marketers and farmers in the constituency are excited about the new equipment, as it will reduce wastage and increase income.

She revealed that the grader will be used to upgrade feeder roads, ensuring smooth mobility and easier access to essential services like healthcare and education.

She added that the TLB and tipper truck will support agricultural activities by improving land preparation, irrigation, and transportation of farm produce.

Keembe Member of Parliament said with good roads in place, business opportunities will increase, making Keembe a thriving hub for trade and agriculture.

She said President Hichilema’s leadership continues to deliver tangible progress through the CDF, bringing development and hope to communities.

Mrs Kasune has further appealed to the community to take a good care of the equipment so that it serves it’s intended purpose for a longer period of time.

CABINET APPROVES ISSUANCE OF SI TO WAIVE LANDING, PARKING & NAVIGATION CHARGES AT NEW AIRPORTS

CABINET APPROVES ISSUANCE OF SI TO WAIVE LANDING, PARKING & NAVIGATION CHARGES AT NEW AIRPORTS

….this will help stimulate growth of domestic air travel, which will lead to increased economic activities in the tourism sector, says Mweetwa

Lusaka, Zambia March 11, 2025 (MONEY MEDIA AFRICA)

Cabinet has approved the issuance of a Statutory Instrument (SI) to waive landing, parking and navigation charges and fees for a period of twelve months at all newly commissioned provincial and strategic airports.

Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa says this is aimed at attracting more airlines to fly to these destinations, thereby, enhancing domestic air connectivity.

In a statement on Cabinet decisions at it’s 5th sitting in Lusaka, Mr Mweetwa says Cabinet is of the view that waiving of fees at provincial and strategic airports for twelve months from the date of commissioning of the airport, will lead to increased air traffic as more domestic operators will fly to these airports due to
the incentive.

He said this will further help stimulate growth of domestic air travel, which will lead to increased economic activities in the tourism, agriculture and mining sectors and ensure maximum utilisation of newly commissioned airports.

Meanwhile, Mr Mweetwa disclosed that Cabinet also approved the Bill entitled “The National Road Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2025,” for publication and introduction in Parliament.

“The objective of this Bill is to provide for immunity for the National Road Fund Agency or property of the Agency from execution, attachment or other proceedings arising from a judgement or order of court. Cabinet has realised that currently, the regulatory framework in the National
Road Fund Act No. 12 of 2002, does not provide for an exemption from execution of judgement against the Agency, as well as provide for the Director of the Agency to cause to be paid the Judgement sum to the Judgment creditor from the
revenue of the Agency,” he said.

“The Bill, once enacted, will facilitate the swift implementation of payment of judgment creditors against the Agency. It will further protect the state from losing property due to execution of Judgements obtained against the Agency.”

Mr Mweetwa, who is also Minister of Information and Media, also disclosed that cabinet approved the Bill entitled “The Building Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2025,” for publication and introduction in Parliament.

He said the objectives of this Bill are to revise the date on which the financial year of a building society shall end; and align it to that of Government, resulting in effective preparation of budgets and performance reports. Currently, the Building Societies Act, Cap. 412, is not aligned to the financial year of the Government, and has resulted in the late submission of financial reports which are due on 31st March of each year,” he added.

“The Bill, once enacted, will align a building society’s financial year to that of the Government, resulting in effective preparation of budgets and performance reports, and ensure timely submission of financial reports.”

SOME MAN UTD PLAYERS NOT GOOD ENOUGH & OVERPAID’- club’s co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe

‘SOME MAN UTD PLAYERS NOT GOOD ENOUGH & OVERPAID’

Some Manchester United players are “not good enough” and some are “overpaid”, the club’s co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe says.

Midfielder Casemiro, striker Rasmus Hojlund, goalkeeper Andre Onana, and wingers Antony and Jadon Sancho – who are on loan at other clubs – were namechecked by the billionaire in an interview with BBC Sport as players his regime had “inherited”.

Ratcliffe, a lifelong Manchester United fan, is the chairman of petrochemicals company Ineos, which has a strong sport investment arm.

The 72-year-old last year spent £1.3bn for a 28.94% stake in the club in a deal which saw Ineos take control of football operations.

In a wide-ranging interview, Ratcliffe addressed the side’s recent struggles on the pitch – they are 14th in the Premier League table – and repeated a pledge to deliver silverware by 2028.

And talking just a day after fans protested against United’s ownership, he also spoke of the club’s financial difficulties, saying it was set to run out of money by the end of the year without taking actions he admitted were “unpopular”.

Ratcliffe also spoke about:

Marcus Rashford’s departure from the club on loan to Aston Villa

How backing then sacking ex-manager Erik ten Hag – and hiring sporting director Dan Ashworth, who left after five months – were “errors”

How he believes the club had “come off the rails”

How he believes head coach Ruben Amorim will be at the club for “a long time”

How he plans to make Manchester United “the most profitable club in the world”

Plans to deliver a new world-class stadium

His challenging first year at the club

His sympathy with fans for some of the changes he felt needed to be made

And how he felt criticism over a perceived lack of support for the women’s team was “unfair”

Ratcliffe lamented the fact the club still had payments owed on players signed before he took control, citing what he said was a £17m payment still to be made for Sancho this summer.

The England winger was a £73m signing from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 but returned to the German club on loan after falling out with then-United boss Ten Hag and was loaned to Chelsea at the start of the current season.

“If you look at the players we are buying this summer, that we didn’t buy, we’re buying Antony, we’re buying Casemiro, we’re buying Onana, we’re buying Hojlund, we’re buying Sancho. These are all things from the past, whether we like it or not, we’ve inherited those things and have to sort that out.

“For Sancho, who now plays for Chelsea and we pay half his wages, we’re paying £17m to buy him in the summer.”

Brazil winger Antony is another on loan, at Spanish club Real Betis, after struggling at Old Trafford following an £81.5m move from Ajax.

Compatriot Casemiro arrived in 2022 in a £70m deal, while Denmark striker Hojlund arrived the following year for £72m.

Cameroon international Onana joined the club in the same summer for £47.2m.

All those players have drawn criticism during their time at the club.

“It takes time for us to move away from the past into a new place in the future,” Ratcliffe said.

When asked whether he was suggesting those players were not good enough for Manchester United, he said: “Some are not good enough and some probably are overpaid, but for us to mould the squad that we are fully responsible for, and accountable for, will take time.

“We’ve got this period of transformation where we move from the past to the future.

“There are some great players in the squad as we know, the captain is a fabulous footballer. We definitely need Bruno, he’s a fantastic footballer.” [BBC News]

KBN TV EDITORIAL – STOP THE DISCREDITED CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT PROPOSAL

KBN TV EDITORIAL – STOP THE DISCREDITED CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT PROPOSAL

We agree with Lawyer and former Executive Director of Chapter One Foundation, Linda Kasonde, that the constitution is at risk of manipulation for partisan interests.

We consider it a risk when the Head of State makes a unilateral statement that “we have agreed as a nation to change the constitution before 2026 elections” when his conscious betrays him that there is no consensus on the matter.

President Hakainde Hichilema’s statement on Women’s Day in Kasama raises very serious questions such as, why is the UPND administration so desperate to change the constitution before the elections?

What has the constitution got to do the 2026 elections?

Further, who did the President consult? When you carry out a quick media scan, you will discover that the Church, LAZ, CSOs, political parties and the citizens in general are not in agreement on this matter.

The only section of our society that seems to be singing louder in unison on this matter are die hard partisan cadres.

We would like to caution that you can’t deal with a national matter as important as the constitution from narrow partisan interests.

Yesterday’s badly written argument in support of the rushed Constitutional amendment by Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Commissioner, Mcdonald Chipenzi, raises even more concerns about a potentially predetermined outcome.

As someone said, the statement attributed to Chipenzi is a pedestrian interpretation of the Constitution which is not only misleading but very dangerous.

It just demonstrates the partisan nature of   ECZ Commissioners. Chipenzi must not lie to himself that he can mislead the nation.

Even a grade one knows the difference between reviewing and amending the constitution.  For his benefit, Chipenzi must be reminded that reviewing the names and numbers of wards and constituencies is not the same as delimitating the names and numbers of wards and constituencies.

Further, amending the Constitution every 10 years as Chipenzi seems to be suggesting can not guarantee the nation a Constitution that will stand the test of time.

Rushing to amend the constitution on flimsy Constitutional provisions is total deception. The President knows it, Chipenzi knows it, MPs know it  too!

Talking about MPs, the current composition of some members of Parliament leaves much to be desired.  We all know that strange things have happened involving some members of Parliament that suggests that some of them have become less than honourable to protect the constitution.

There’s is every possibility suggesting that some MPs can not resist the temptation to vote in favour of the unwanted Constitutional amendments in exchange for some form of gratification.

What’s wrong with building concensus on the so called noncontentious issues and if the UPND is very certain of retaining power after 2026, why not make this your priority item post elections?

The relentless push to amend the constitution before the 2026 elections without consensus raises alot of suspicion.

It’s the lack of consensus that’s even fueling spececulation  about using delimitation to rig elections, others have even gone to suggest that clauses such as 50+1 percent, Presidential term limit and running mate, could be  targeted in the proposed rushed amendment.

Lastly, the very fact that Chipenzi has rushed to comment on a discredited proposed constitutional amendment, says alot about what should be expected in 2026.

As some citizens have submitted, if the opposition doesn’t mount pressure to oust Chipenzi and Zaloumis from ECZ, then they should even forget about 2026 because those UPND cadres cannot deliver any credible election that would disadvantage their own party.

Delimitation and Constitutional Amendment: A Legal Imperative Under Zambia’s 2016 Constitution- Sunday Chanda

Delimitation and Constitutional Amendment: A Legal Imperative Under Zambia’s 2016 Constitution

By Sunday Chanda (Kanchibiya Member of Parliament)

1. Introduction:

The Constitutional Obligation of Delimitation

The principle of delimitation of constituencies and wards in Zambia is not merely a policy decision but a constitutional requirement enshrined in Article 58 of the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act No. 2 of 2016. This provision mandates the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to review the boundaries of constituencies and wards at intervals of not more than ten years, making delimitation an obligatory legal process rather than a discretionary administrative action.

Furthermore, since Article 68 of the Constitution prescribes the number of constituencies in the National Assembly, any significant alteration resulting from delimitation would necessitate a corresponding constitutional amendment. Consequently, the legal framework governing Zambia’s electoral boundaries is designed in a manner that inherently requires constitutional amendments at least once every ten years to accommodate changes arising from delimitation. Failure to undertake this process by 2026 would constitute a violation of the Constitution.

2. The Legal Framework for Delimitation

a) Constitutional Mandate for Delimitation

• Article 58(1) mandates that Zambia shall be divided into constituencies and wards for purposes of elections to the National Assembly and councils.

• Article 58(5) further requires that the ECZ shall review the names and boundaries of constituencies and wards at intervals of not more than ten years.

The use of the word “shall” makes this a mandatory constitutional directive. Thus, the review of constituencies and wards must take place by 2026.

b) The Link Between Delimitation and Constitutional Amendment

• Article 68 of the Constitution establishes the number of seats in the National Assembly.

• If delimitation results in a change in the number of constituencies, Article 68 must be amended to reflect the new structure.

• This creates an inherent legal requirement for constitutional amendments at least every ten years.

Thus, Zambia’s Constitution, by its own design, necessitates periodic amendments to accommodate delimitation.

3. Historical Precedents of Delimitation

A review of Zambia’s electoral history shows that delimitation exercises have led to constituency increases over time:

• 1991: The most extensive delimitation exercise, which increased the number of constituencies from 125 to 150.

• 2016: Delimitation resulted in an increase from 150 to 156, following the creation of six new districts that were later designated as constituencies.

Given this historical pattern, the next delimitation is due in 2026, and Parliament must act accordingly to ensure compliance with the Constitution.

4. The Legal Consequences of Failing to Conduct Delimitation in 2026

Failure to conduct delimitation within the constitutionally prescribed timeframe would lead to:

1. Violation of Article 58(5):

Since delimitation is a constitutional duty, failing to implement it within ten years would amount to a breach of the Constitution.

2. Unconstitutional Conduct by the ECZ:

The ECZ, as a constitutional body, would be acting ultra vires if it does not review constituency boundaries by 2026.

3. Legal Incoherence and Electoral Irregularities:

Population dynamics and administrative changes necessitate periodic boundary adjustments to ensure fair and effective representation. Without delimitation, the electoral system would become outdated and legally inconsistent.

4. Potential Constitutional Court Litigation:

As per Article 58(7), any person may apply to the Constitutional Court to review a decision by the ECZ under this article. If delimitation is not conducted, citizens or stakeholders could seek judicial intervention to compel compliance.

5. Conclusion:

A Constitutional Obligation, Not a Choice

The 2016 Constitution effectively binds Zambia to periodic constitutional amendments in response to delimitation. The framers of the Constitution deliberately included a mandatory review cycle of ten years, ensuring that the country’s electoral framework remains responsive to demographic and administrative changes.

Thus, the next delimitation must be completed by 2026, and Parliament must amend the Constitution accordingly to reflect any changes in the number of constituencies. Failure to do so would amount to a direct violation of Zambia’s supreme law.

Court acquits Edgar Lungu’s proxy in a case he was accused of possession of over 50 properties

THE Lusaka Magistrate’s Court has acquitted a businessman who was claimed to be former President Edgar Lungu’s proxy in a case he was accused of possession of over 50 properties suspected of being proceeds of crime.

https://www.facebook.com/100064560977290/posts/1082173930611296/

The properties in issue, worth millions of kwacha, are linked to Pittscon Zambia Limited, which had been under Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigations.
ACC investigations revealed that Pittscon Zambia Limited owned a fleet of vehicles altogether valued at K7 million.

It was alleged that Mr Lungu’s alleged proxy Emmanuel Mugala owned 21 residential properties valued at K1 400,000.00, K3, 400,000, K1, 700,000 and K2, 600,000.

Further, an investigator testified that it was established that Mr Mugala possessed 14 shops worth K5,900,000.00, 14 shops valued K7,600,000 and Subdivision F of Subdivision No. 26 of F/9/6.

The court heard that in addition to the numbered plots, Mr Mugala also had various unnumbered plots whose value after valuation by the Government Valuation Department was K41, 800,000.00

The court heard that during investigations covering the period between 2018 and 2022, the only known source of income for Pittscon and Mr Mugala was the contracts for the periodic maintenance of selected feeder roads.

Mr Mugala was reported to possess four unnumbered plots valued at K26, 300,000.
In this case Mr Mugala was jointly charged with are Peter Malao, his son Edson Mugala and Lucy Simbeye.

They were jointly facing 19 charges of possession of property suspected of being proceeds of crime linked to Pittscon Zambia Limited where Mr Mugala, Mr Malao and Ms Simbeye are directors and shareholders.

At defence stage, the accused denied the allegations and that the Pittscon Zambia was duly was awarded contracts from the Ministry of Local Government and paid for works done and earned money.

Mr Mugala also told court that the investigator in the case only concentrated on Pittscon Zambia’s earnings instead of his other sources of income.

The accused also told court that during the material times, he used to buy and sell Kapenta and beans with a K2.8million working capital.

Edson Mugala also testified that the property he owns which is deemed proceeds of crime was gifted to him by his father.

After analysing the evidence from both parties, Lusaka principal resident magistrate Sanford Ngobola found that the prosecution failed to prove the case against the accused persons.

He was left with no option but to free the accused of all 19 charges because the prosecution failed to prove that Pittston Zambia Limited had engaged in fraud.

“I also find that there is no proof on record that the properties in question are disproportionate to the known legitimate sources of income of the accused persons” magistrate Ngobola said.

“I acuity the accused persons of all the 19 counts…” the magistrate said.

The twist to the story is the properties in issue were last year in August forfeited to the State after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) made an application at the High Court.

In a motion for the forfeiture, the DPP had submitted that the properties, which included cars, shops and houses in Chilanga, were a product of grand corruption.

MWEETWA’S STANCE ON MEDIA FREEDOM, A BETRAYAL …he wouldn’t be where he is today without independent media says Dr M’membe

MWEETWA’S STANCE ON MEDIA FREEDOM, A BETRAYAL

…he wouldn’t be where he is today without independent media says Dr M’membe

Lusaka… Tuesday March 11, 2025

Socialist Party (SP) President Fred M’membe has expressed disappointment in Information and Media Minister Cornelius Mweetwa, accusing him of betraying the very media that played a crucial role in shaping his political career.

In a statement, Dr M’membe invoked the famous phrase “Et tu, Brute?” from Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, suggesting that Mweetwa’s recent stance on media freedom amounts to a political betrayal.

https://www.facebook.com/share/1YjMNJpdLi/?mibextid=wwXIfr

He argued that Mweetwa, who benefited from a free and independent media, is now working against it for political convenience.

Dr M’membe raised concerns about the current government’s approach to media regulation, stating that there is a growing hostility towards independent journalism.

He emphasized that politicians in power view the press with suspicion and seek to limit its freedom under the guise of ethical standards.

“Far from needing more regulation and regimentation, what the media needs is more freedom and openness,” he stated, warning that increasing restrictions would stifle diverse perspectives in the national discourse.

He further criticized former advocates of media freedom, like Mweetwa, for abandoning their previous principles and aligning with efforts to tighten control over the press.

Dr M’membe underscored that this shift represents a broader trend where media regulation is being used as a political tool rather than a means of ensuring journalistic integrity.

Citing Karl Marx’s early writings against Prussian censorship, Dr M’membe emphasized that a free press is essential for democracy, especially in times of economic and social crisis.

He argued that restricting media voices would only worsen the situation, preventing constructive discussions on the country’s future.

Quoting Marx, he warned against sacrificing press freedom due to its perceived inconveniences, stating that “you cannot pluck the rose without its thorns.”

Dr M’membe concluded by urging the government to reconsider its stance, warning that curbing media freedoms could have dire consequences for the nation.

“KASAMA DESERVES MORE, AND I KNOW WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE” – KELVIN SAMPA MUTALE

“KASAMA DESERVES MORE, AND I KNOW WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE” KELVIN SAMPA MUTALE

10th March 2025
Kasama District

Reported By:Open Development media

Kasama, the heart of Northern Province, has always been a political decider, a region that shapes the national narrative. But for far too long, its development has been stifled by leaders who lack vision, commitment and the political will to push for real change.

Speaking on Kasama’s top radio stations, Radio Mano, Radio Lutanda and Kasama Radio, Honourable Kelvin Sampa made it clear: “My job is very simple because I know what needs to be done.” With a proven track record, Sampa has returned to continue what he started, this time, under a government that works.

Sidelined, Sabotaged, But Still Delivered

Honourable Sampa exposed the reality of his time under the Patriotic Front (PF), a government that deliberately frustrated his efforts because they feared his impact. Despite being National Youth Chairperson and later National Youth Chairperson, he faced roadblocks at every turn.

“The people of Kasama never got to know the full extent of what I was doing because my own party worked against me. They didn’t want development to be credited to me. Even when I secured funding, they fought me. But I refused to be distracted, I remained committed to the people,” Sampa revealed.

Yet, against all odds, he delivered:

Brought three hospitals to Kasama under severe financial constraints.

Secured a ZNBC Provincial Office a game changer for youth employment in media and film.

Pushed for the first-ever communication tower in Misenge, connecting thousands who had been left behind in the digital era.

Facilitated major investments, including ShopRite and Choppies, creating jobs and strengthening Kasama’s economy.

“But look at these projects today. Many are hanging, incomplete, neglected, and you ask why I left PF? I left because their leadership was reckless. They buried this country in debt, making wrong decisions, and leading us into an economic disaster. I could not be part of that failure,” Sampa declared.

Aligning with a Government That Delivers

Now under the UPND government, Honourable Sampa says he has finally found an administration that values real work. President Hakainde Hichilema inherited a country on the brink of collapse, yet within two years, he has stabilized the economy, cleared PF’s reckless debts and put Zambia back on the path to prosperity.

“Those blaming this government for high mealie meal and fuel prices are forgetting that this is the aftermath of PF’s economic disaster. But look at what President Hichilema has done he has secured debt restructuring, restored free education, decentralized CDF and boosted social cash transfers. That is a working government,” Sampa said.

He reaffirmed that Kasama cannot afford to be left behind in this new era of development. The Northern Province is not for kawayawayafye (directionless leadership). It needs leaders who fight for their people, who push projects to completion, and who stand firm for progress.

2026: Kasama’s Defining Moment

As the 2026 elections approach, the battle for Kasama has begun. Honourable Sampa made it clear he is standing. The people’s voices have spoken, and they want him back.

“If the people give me the mandate, my first priority will be Kasama General Hospital it must be upgraded to Kasama Central Hospital. This is non negotiable,” he declared.

He also committed to reviving stalled projects, ensuring that investments continue flowing and making Kasama the agricultural and industrial hub of Northern Province.

Fear in the Opposition, Confidence in the UPND

Honourable Sampa’s return is sending shockwaves through the opposition, those who worked so hard to silence him and suppress Kasama’s progress. The people now see through the deception and they are rallying behind a leader who delivers.

Meanwhile, within UPND, confidence is growing. Sampa reaffirmed President Hichilema’s 2026 mission for a landslide victory in Northern Province, urging every resident to join the party that is working.

“We must unite under the President’s vision. The time for petty politics is over. We are here to build, not destroy,” he emphasized.

As callers flooded the radio stations, one message stood out:

“Honourable, we are waiting for you. We have seen what you can do. Now come back and finish the job.”

The challenge is clear. The momentum is building. And Kasama is watching.

R. Kelly has revealed that he has not stopped singing even in prison, says he’s written 25 albums while in prison

R. Kelly has revealed that he has not stopped singing even in prison. In a seven-minute phone interview with the Inmate Tea With A&P podcast, he broke his three-year silence following his 30-year sentence for racketeering and sex trafficking.

The former R&B star called in on a monitored prison phone line and informed the show’s hosts that he had been told he was meant to sing to someone “Happy Birthday.”

According to Billboard, the two female hosts laughed and called the 58-year-old singer the “King of R&B” as well as his original honorific title, “the Pied Piper of R&B”.

Kelly, who declared he was feeling “great,” burst into the opening words of his 1998 song “When a Woman’s Fed Up,” singing a cappella as one of the hosts danced, laughed, and excitedly performed backup vocals.

The musician described singing as “a beautiful disease that’s uncurable” when asked if he had continued to use his skills while incarcerated.

Kelly said that he has composed “like 25 albums” after being sentenced to three decades in jail in 2021.

Kelly was also convicted in 2022 of three counts of producing child pornography and three counts of enticement of a minor.

Kelly was recognized for his active nature before his imprisonment, having released 18 studio albums between 1992 and 2016, as well as 33 chapters in his unconventional “Trapped in the Closet” musical soap opera series between 2005 and 2012.

Kelly added that he is attempting to get out of prison so that he can return to “what it is God gave me, my talent,” besides recording music from his cell in a federal prison in North Carolina.

Last month, Manhattan’s 2nd Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals denied Kelly’s request to appeal his New York conviction, which, given the singer’s age, could keep him in prison until his 80s if he serves the whole term.

Born Robert Sylvester Kelly, he has long been accused of sexual and physical abuse of women, as well as an illegal marriage in 1994 to a then-15-year-old Aaliyah when he was 27.

In 2017, it was stated that he held six women, some of whom were supposedly minors, as hostages in what was called a “cult,” where he allegedly controlled every area of their lives, including when they showered, ate, dressed, and had sex with him.

Later, several women came forward to report that Kelly had sexually and physically abused them; some of these women even discussed their experiences for the first time in public in the shocking Surviving R. Kelly series. Kelly and his legal team have refuted the claims.

Buku Abi, his daughter, who is now 26, said in a documentary last year that her father sexually assaulted her as a youngster, which his lawyer denied.

Khloé Kardashian Says She Lets Her Daughter True Believe She’s Still Married To Tristan

Khloé Kardashian is navigating parenthood with a gentle touch, even if it means letting her daughter True Thompson hold onto a sweet misunderstanding.

In the latest episode of The Kardashians, the Good American founder shared that her 6-year-old believes she and her ex, Tristan Thompson, are still married—and for the moment, Khloé’s okay with that.

Chatting with her best friend Malika Haqq, Khloé opened up about why she hasn’t corrected True just yet.

“That’s what I wanna teach her,” she said earnestly. “Get married, have kids.”

For Khloé, letting True cling to this idea feels like the “right thing to do” for now—a way to pass down the traditional values she holds dear, hoping her daughter might one day dream of a wedding before a family.

In a confessional, Khloé admitted she’ll set the record straight “when she’s older.” For now, though, she’s shielding her kids from grown-up messes.

“Right now, I believe you do things for your kids because kids should not be involved in adult problems,” she explained. Still, there’s a pang of unease.

True and her 2-year-old brother, Tatum, see their parents’ dynamic and assume it’s what marriage looks like—a thought that “bothers” Khloé. “Oh, you’re married to someone and they don’t live with you,” she mused, imagining their perspective. “And you never have to kiss them or you don’t sleep in the same bed together.”

Khloé’s history with Tristan is no secret—a rollercoaster of love, heartbreak, and headlines that began in 2016. They weathered multiple cheating scandals, only to call it quits for good in 2021 after Tristan fathered a child with Maralee Nichols while he and Khloé were expecting Tatum via surrogate.

Despite the pain, Khloé’s heart hasn’t hardened. “I would love for them to see love and affection and romance,” she said of her kids. “I do want them to have that.”

Earlier in 2024, Khloé told viewers she hadn’t been on a date since splitting with Tristan—a dry spell she’s now breaking. “I’m doing things, but I’m not on Hinge, I’m not on Raya,” she assured Haqq in the episode, hinting at a quiet optimism about finding love again. She dreams of a future where her kids witness her with a husband, not just for her sake, but for theirs—to show them what a loving partnership can be.

For now, Khloé’s balancing her kids’ innocence with her own healing, letting True’s belief linger like a tender placeholder. It’s not forever, but it’s enough for today.

Zim Govt Addresses Viral Photo of Tourists Sitting in Pothole on Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Highway

Govt Addresses Viral Photo of Tourists Sitting in Pothole on Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Highway

The Zimbabwean government has addressed a viral photo of three White tourists posing in a large pothole, which was reportedly taken along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls highway.

Govt Denies Pothole is on Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Highway
The image, which spread quickly on X (formerly Twitter), led the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development to release a statement on Monday, 10 March, clarifying the situation.

“It has come to our attention that a social media post is circulating, showing three people posing in a pothole on a road claimed to be part of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Highway,” part of the statement reads.

While the government acknowledged the poor condition of some sections of the highway, they confirmed that the photo did not show any part of this road.

“While we acknowledge that certain sections of the highway are in dire need of rehabilitation, the images in the post do not correspond to any section of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Highway,” the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development added.

Repair Work Already Underway on Highway
The Ministry also stated that repair work on the highway is already underway. Bitumen World and the Department of Roads are working together to address the worst sections.

“The sections requiring urgent attention are currently being addressed through a collaborative effort between the Department of Roads and Bitumen World. Work is already underway, with teams camped in Hwange, Halfway, and Insiza to ensure the road is rehabilitated efficiently,” the statement reads.

In 2024, the government partnered with Bitumen World to reconstruct the damaged Beitbridge-Victoria Falls Highway using a build, operate, and transfer model. Under this agreement, Bitumen World will finance, build, and manage the road for profit before handing it over to the government.

Opposition Politician Criticises Government for Neglecting Highway
Meanwhile, opposition politician Gift Ostallos Siziba shared a video on social media, showing the highway’s poor condition and highlighting the role potholes play in causing accidents. He criticized the government for neglecting the road, which is vital for tourism.

“Yesterday, I witnessed this shocking reality firsthand on my way to Victoria Falls. The road leading to one of the world’s most iconic tourist attractions is in a deplorable state of disrepair. The number of potholes has reached catastrophic levels, causing trucks to lose their axles and leading to an alarming increase in accidents. This critical route, which should be a showcase for Zimbabwe’s tourism industry, has been grossly neglected by the regime in Harare,” Siziba wrote.

Chakwera’s Hi-5: From campaign promises to public frustration ahead of September elections

0

During the 2020 presidential campaign, President Lazarus Chakwera captured the hopes of Malawians with his Hi-5 agenda—a set of five key principles aimed at transforming Malawi’s governance, economy, and social welfare.

The Hi-5 principles—Servant Leadership, Uniting Malawians, Prospering Together, Ending Corruption, and Rule of Law—were at the core of his campaign, giving Malawians optimism for a fresh start after years of political instability and economic hardship.

However, as Malawi prepares for elections in September, growing public frustration suggests that these promises have largely remained unfulfilled.

Many Malawians feel disillusioned, arguing that instead of meaningful reforms and development, Chakwera’s administration has been marked by economic struggles, unfulfilled pledges, corruption scandals, and weak governance.

1) Servant Leadership: A betrayed promise?
One of Chakwera’s most powerful campaign messages was that he would be a servant leader, prioritizing the needs of Malawians over personal or political interests.

However, critics argue that his leadership style has mirrored those of past administrations—where power remains centralized, government resources are misused, and citizens’ voices are ignored.

Despite calls for a lean and efficient government, Chakwera’s administration has maintained a bloated cabinet, costing taxpayers millions while the majority of Malawians struggle to afford basic necessities.

His frequent international trips, often with large delegations, have also drawn public anger, as many believe these trips offer little benefit to ordinary Malawians and only drain government funds.

Instead of being a government that serves the people, many believe Chakwera’s leadership has become distant from the realities of ordinary citizens.

2) Uniting Malawians: A country more divided than before
During his campaign, Chakwera positioned himself as a unifier—a leader who would bring together different political, regional, and tribal factions to create a stable and progressive Malawi.

However, his presidency has been marred by growing divisions within his own Malawi Congress Party (MCP), as well as tensions within the Tonse Alliance, the coalition that brought him to power.

Many of his government appointments have been criticized for favoring individuals from the Central Region, particularly from his home district of Lilongwe, raising concerns about regionalism and nepotism.

His strained relationship with Vice President Saulos Chilima and other alliance partners has weakened the unity that once promised a strong and collaborative government.

With the 2025 elections approaching, Chakwera’s failure to unite Malawians has created a fragmented political landscape, where opposition parties and even former allies are preparing to challenge his leadership.

3) Prospering together: An economy in crisis
Chakwera’s Hi-5 agenda promised economic growth and shared prosperity, yet the reality on the ground paints a different picture.

Malawi’s cost of living has soared, with inflation driving up the prices of basic goods like maize, fuel, and electricity.

The kwacha has depreciated significantly, making imports more expensive and further worsening the economic situation for ordinary Malawians.

Unemployment remains high, particularly among the youth, despite promises to create more jobs and empower local businesses.

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) continue to struggle due to high taxation, lack of access to financing, and an unfavorable business environment.

For many Malawians, instead of “prospering together,” the country has become poorer together, and they are now questioning whether Chakwera’s administration has th…

Amber Rose Claims Ex Kanye West Dresses His Women To Be Desired By Other Men

Amber Rose recently appeared on Shannon Sharpe’s ‘Club Shay Shay’ podcast, where she candidly discussed her ex-boyfriend Kanye West and his current wife, Bianca Censori.

Rose asserted that West deliberately dresses Censori in revealing outfits, a pattern she claims he followed with her and his ex-wife Kim Kardashian as well, suggesting that he enjoys the attention it garners from other men.

During the podcast, Rose didn’t mince words when addressing concerns about West’s alleged controlling tendencies over his partners’ appearances. When Sharpe inquired about Censori’s provocative fashion choices, asking, “Is she choosing those outfits, or is Kanye picking them for her?”

Rose chuckled and responded, “Oh, Kanye’s definitely behind it. He did the same with me and Kim. That’s just his style.”

Curious, Sharpe pressed further, “Why does he want—obviously, you’re a striking woman with a great figure—what’s his deal with showing off ‘my woman’ to the world?”

Rose replied, “He gets a kick out of knowing other guys are lusting after his partner. That’s his thing—he loves it when men are drooling over whoever he’s with.”

Sharpe, taken aback, mused, “I mean, I’d hope someone else finds my partner attractive too. If I’m the only one who does, I’d start questioning my choices.”

Rose laughed in agreement, “Exactly.” Sharpe struggled to articulate a follow-up, stammering, “But to actually… wow…” Rose jumped in, “Yeah, he wants all his buddies to be into his girlfriend. He loves it when his wife or girlfriend walks in and turns every head—she’s got to be the most coveted woman there.” Sharpe summed it up, “The hottest one in the room.” Rose nodded, “That’s what drives him, yeah.”

Rose has previously spoken about West’s influence on her own style.

In a March 2024 episode of ‘Just B with Bethenny Frankel,’ she reflected on how West shaped her public image during their relationship, which began in 2008.

“I’ve always been pretty conservative,” she shared. “But when I got with him, he transformed me into this ultra-sexy persona once I hit the spotlight.”

She explained that being young and new to fame, she went along with West’s vision despite her reservations.

“It was my first high-profile romance, and he’s so into fashion—he always pushed me to dress provocatively,” she said.

Even after their split in 2010, Rose found herself stuck with that “sexy” label, feeling boxed into a persona that wasn’t entirely her own.

Chris Rock Talks About Forgiving Will Smith For Oscar Slap

Actor Chris Rock may be getting over the bad blood between him and Will Smith.

He appears to be undecided about hosting the Oscars in the future but may want to forgive Smith for slapping him at the event three years ago.

Asked if he would be interested in hosting the show again, Chris Rock replied: “You never know.” He reportedly made the remarks while attending this year’s Oscars Vanity party with his daughter, Zahra, on March 2.

About forgiving Will Smith, he noted: “…This is what I would say, the most miserable people on earth are people that can’t forgive.

“…And not just people, you have to forgive yourself sometimes. So, hey, you never know…I live in forgiveness…True love starts at forgiveness,” he told an outlet.

Some fans reacted to Rock’s interview online, indicating that he may not want to joke about someone’s sick wife in the future, if he got the opportunity to host the show again.

“Maybe this time he won’t make a joke about someone’s sick wife! That really showed poor judgement” a follower wrote. Another added: “His jokes were not funny last time. Why figure they would be if given another chance?”

Others suggested that the show should focus on finding a host with “great charisma” instead of a comedian.

Three years ago, Rock was on stage telling a joke when he took a jab at Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, and her bald head.

Shortly after the joke, Smith marched up on stage and gave Rock a swift slap across the face. After he returned to his seat, Smith warned Rock to keep his wife’s name out of any joke.

That night, Smith earned his first Oscar Award for his role in King Richard and received a 10-year ban from attending future Oscar award shows.

Will Smith reportedly sent an apology to Rock via video about four months after the slap at the Oscars but Rock did not accept.

In January, an outlet reported that Smith “will never forgive Chris for ruining his life, even though he had managed to pick up the pieces. Months after the slap, it was reported that Chris was still haunted by what happened on that Oscars stage.

In the fall of 2024, Chris Rock released an animated version of his series Everybody Hates Chris, which was slightly based on his childhood.

Collect Adequate Taxes from the Mining Sector- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Collect Adequate Taxes from the Mining Sector

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba Wrote

With 70% of Zambia’s export coming from the mines, the behaviour of the mine houses on the state of the economy and the foreign exchange market is significant.

For example, the  big mine houses, have refused to comply with the The Bank of Zambia (Export Proceeds Tracking Framework) Directives of 2023.

This directed an exporter to open and maintain a bank account with a bank or financial institution domiciled in Zambia for purposes of these Directives.

The exporter and his bank are to ensure that all proceeds of export are deposited in this account.
So the mine houses stash the export proceeds  abroad and only send tonZambia residue amounts required to pay wages and recurrenr expenditure.

Infact, funds required for mine operations are derived from the highky porous and fraudulent Zambia Revenu Authority VAT Tax refund mechanism.

Minister of Finance, Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane has a peculiar belief that tax and other incentives granted to mines and other large multi-nationals, attract investment and stability to their sectors.

To this effect, he abolished one of Zambia’s best profit-sharing mechanism, the Windfall Tax, that was introduced by his predecessor, Ngandu Magande.

When introduced in 2008, the Windfall tax earned the Zambian Government $600million from the mining sector, first earnings in a period 20 years after privatisation.

After the death of President Mwanawasa, his succesor, Rupiah Banda, appointed Musokotwane as new Minister of Finance, who immediately abolished the Windfall Tax.

With this tax incentive abolished, the stability of the Kwacha lost grip, and foreign debt rose sharply from $500,000 in 2008 to US$3.8m in 2011.

Similarly in 2019, Government introduced non-deductible mineral royalty tax that earned  the Treasury $1.1billion per year from the mining sector.

When President Hakainde Hichilema won elections in 2021, he appointed Musokotwane to return to the Ministry of Finance after ten years.

Musokotwane’s first call of business was to abolish the non-deductible mineral royalty tax.

If Musokotwane’s assertions were true, DRC which is facing war, instability and lack of infrastructure and lack of reliable electricity, would not have shot to become Africa’s number one producer of copper.

The DRC has attracted international mine houses that include Zijin Mining Group, Glencore, Ivanhoe Mines, Barrick, AngloGold Ashanti, and Eurasian Resources Group (ERG) who have focused on mining copper, cobalt, and gold mining.

Musokotwane’s return to the Ministry in 2021 sparked the same reaction to the economy as was the period he superintendented in 2008-2011.

The foreign exchange market became unstable, both domestic and foreign loans ballooned and Musokotwane’s reliance on aid escalated.

The 2023/2024 drought became a perfect setting for aid. Zambia’s food security was shaken, not necessarily by drought, but by government’s own careless decision to export in the year 2022 and 2023, literally, the entire national strategic food reserves.

Atbthe height of the adverse effects of the drought, Government refused to halt power exports to Bostwana, DRC, Namibia and South Africa thereby depleting its 2024 water allocation for power generation at Lake Kariba  exhausted by June 2024.

This action, driven by greed, spawned the worst power shortages Zambia has ever faced.

Strangely, ZESCO refused to halt power exports even when Zambia’s own industries and SMEs were collapsing for lack of power.

Musokotwane extended a global request for grant and food aid.

The fiscal hole created by reduced revenue from the mines has sent the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) into a maddening frenzy  to target small tax payers such as landlords and SMEs.

Following reform of the rental income tax regime, the obligation on the tenant to withhold and account for tax to the Zambia Revenue Authority (the “ZRA”) has been abolished.

A tenant must now pay the gross rent to the landlord without any deductions and the obligation to account for the tax on rental income is now borne by the landlord. In addition, the reform has also revised the applicable tax rate for rental income.

Under the new regime, two rates will apply:  4% on rental income below K800, 000 per annum and a whopping 12.5% on rental income above K800, 000.

These desperate measures, and without sufficiently widening the tax base, will not plug the hole left by failure to collect adequate and fair taxes from the mining sector.

And the lack of zeal to implement the industrialisation plan to return Zambia to manufacturing, the country will remain susceptible to the vagaries of volatile exchange rate, rising inflation and debt and failure to curb poverty levels.

ECZ COMMISSIONER MCDONALD CHPENZI COMMENTS ON PROPOSED DELIMITATION OF CONSTITUENCIES AND WARDS

*McDonald Chpenzi writes*

*CIVIC EDUCATION CORNER*

*Is it true that Delimitation of Constituencies & Wards was agreed in 2016?*

The answer to this question is found in Article 58(1) and (5) of the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) No. 2 of 2016.

The cited article seems to suggest that Zambians live in agreement since 2016, to be amending the Constitution of Zambia, atleast within the interval of not more than 10 years i.e. 10 years being the upper cap.

Sub article (1) guides that *Zambia shall be divided into constituencies and wardsfor purposes of elections to the National Assembly and councils, respectively*

Sub article (5) mandates the Electoral Commission that it *shall, at intervals of not morethan ten years*, review the names and boundaries of constituenciesand wards

This Sub Article makes it mandatory that constituencies and wards be delimited within 10 years from the previous Delimitation.

Since the number of seats in the National Assembly are enshrined in the constitution under Art 68, it goes without saying that, by operation of the constitution, the constitution amends itself in every 10 years or less to accommodate Delimitation of constituencies and wards otherwise, not amending the constitution every 10 years to accommodate Delimitation will be violating the same constitution.

The framers of the 2016 Constitution had in mind that the Constitution will be amended every 10 years, atleast, to accommodate Delimitation of constituencies.

This may not mean all the 156 Constituencies will be demilited, no but some kind of demilitation of Constituencies and Wards must take place at the interval of not more than 10 years.

For the sake of history, the most comprehensive delimitation was in 1991 when the Constituencies increased from 125 to 150 and recent Delimitation was in 2016 when late President created 6 more districts which later became Constituencies.

Parliament, through a constitutional amendment, approved the increase of the number of Constituencies based seats in the National Assembly to 156 from 150.

This means that the next demilitation of Constituencies is due, without fail, next year, 2026 or else the Constitution will be violated.

*So, because of this Constitutional provision and requirement, Zambians live in agreement that the Constitution stands amended every after 10 years for the purpose of delimitation unless the article in issue is amended to avoid amendment every 10 years*

Below is the extract of Article 58 of the constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act No. 2 of 2016.

58. (1) Zambia shall be divided into constituencies and wardsfor purposes of elections to the National Assembly and councils, respectively.

(2) The number of constituencies shall be equal to the number
of seats of elected members in the National Assembly.

(3) The number of wards in a district shall be prescribed.

(4) The Electoral Commission shall determine the names andboundaries of constituencies and wards.

*(5) The Electoral Commission shall, at intervals of not more
than ten years, review the names and boundaries of constituenciesand wards.*

(6) The names and details of the boundaries of constituencies
and wards shall be published in the Gazette and shall come into
effect on the next dissolution of Parliament or councils.

(7) A person may apply to the Constitutional Court for reviewof a decision of the Electoral Commission made under this Article.

In view of the foregoing, the country and stakeholders, by virtue of enshrining the number of seats in the National Assembly in the Constitution in 2016, *agreed to be amending the Constitution of Zambia, in an interval of not more than 10 years*

UPND CALLS FOR PROPER INTERPRETATION OF HH’S RECENT CONSTITUTION REFORM REMARKS

UPND CALLS FOR PROPER INTERPRETATION OF HH’S RECENT CONSTITUTION REFORM REMARKS

March 10th, 2025

LUSAKA – UPND Media Director, Mark Simuuwe has clarified that the debate on President Hakainde Hichilema’s recent mention of amending the Republican Constitution was not meant at altering electoral statutes but entrenching the calls for Proportional Representation that calls for 50 percent women representation in Parliament.

Mr. Simuuwe said in the constitution, it must be in no uncertain terms clear that there shall be, for instance, be a minimum of 40 or 50 percent of women in Parliament.

He said this during a press briefing at the UPND’s Anderson Mazoka House this morning.

Last week, On March 8, during International Women’s Day (IWD) commemorations in Kasama, President Hichilema stressed the need for women to be accorded the support to equitably participate in the country’s electoral processes.

Mr Simuuwe said the statement from the President was a response to various conventions that Zambia is party to and those that seeks to entrench gender equity and equality amongst the two genders.

He said it was regrettable that the very people who aggressively championed the Proportional Representation agenda in the failed Bill 10 had taken to wanton arm twisting of President Hichilema’s sentiments.

“I believe we can do better constitutional, we are wasting the time of citizens to reflect on progressive causes, instead if we have individuals that are serious with governance issues, they would have been discussing content,” he said.

Mr. Simuuwe said the provisions in the constitution are so weak in terms of including those persons with disabilities.

He also said that there should be a clear, compelling clause to allow for persons living with disabilities to be part of the governance process and represent their expressions.

He also criticized the growing trend of distortion of information from the opposition, stating that those claiming that the time frame between the times President Hichilema made calls for express changes to the Constitution was short were merely using emotional blackmail and mere speculation.

Mr Simuuwe also indicated that the Constitutional Act entails the relevant processes necessary to commence constitutional reforms.

ASKING GOVT TO FULFILL ITS PROMISES IS NOT BEING DISRESPECTFUL – MUSA MWENYE

ASKING GOVT TO FULFILL ITS PROMISES IS NOT BEING DISRESPECTFUL – MUSA MWENYE
…Praise Singers Are Destroyed Hichilema

Musa Mwenye the immediate former Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairperson has said its not being disrespectful to remind government on its unfulfilled promises.

In a message below Mwenye a former Solicitor General under President Michael Sata said the flip side of the respect due to government, is the responsibility that Government bears:

We must accept that there is one President and one Government at a time. That President and government deserves to be respected but, they must not be feared.

The flip side of the respect due to government, is the responsibility that Government bears. It is not disrespectful to hold one’s government to account. To remind government of the promises it made, to point out where those promises were broken and to ask how the government intends to fulfill those promises is not vitriol or disrespect, it is simply holding one’s leaders to account.

When we ask these hard hitting questions, the questions must not be rhetorical. We must be attentive to the answers of our leaders! And once we have listened, if those answers are not reassuring, it is our patriotic duty to ask follow up questions.

There is also nothing wrong with asking questions of those who ruled us in the past and when they answer truthfully, to listen to them attentively. Why listen? Because they would have learnt something from their experiences and mistakes, and the lessons they learnt can benefit us. As the old adage goes – experience is the best teacher.

Of the former leaders I have had the privilege of interacting with in Africa, those that came to an unhappy end, invariably wish they had listened more to their critics and opponents, while they wish they had ignored the echo chamber created by the sycophantic praises of those who would eventually destroy them.

History has shown us that, in what ever office we hold, the only title after ‘current’ is ‘former’ and, at all levels, we must conduct ourselves as transient leaders, who will one day have to account for our time in office.

ZAMBIAN YOUTHS URGED TO SEIZE THE MOMENT FOR LEADERSHIP

…young leaders have proven to be more patriotic and committed to addressing the country’s challenges says MUKANDILA

Lusaka… Monday March 10, 2025

Aspiring Matero Constituency Member of Parliament, Celestine Mambula Mukandila, has called on Zambian youths to recognize their growing influence in national affairs, stating that “a defining moment is now.”

Speaking on the country’s youth demographics, Mukandila highlighted that Zambia’s youth population stands at approximately 5,369,150, accounting for 26.7% of the total population.

He explained that this age group, which includes individuals between 19 and 34 years old, consists of 2,677,952 males and 2,691,198 females.

He further noted that Zambia remains a young nation, with nearly half of its population under the age of 18 and 72% below the age of 30.

Mr. Mukandila emphasized that this demographic trend presents both opportunities and challenges for the country’s future development.

He recalled that young people demonstrated their unity and political strength in the 2021 general elections when they turned up in large numbers to vote.

Mr. Mukandila underscored that the election of youthful leaders to the National Assembly was a testament to their readiness to take up leadership roles and actively participate in governance.

He asserted that young leaders had proven to be more patriotic and committed to addressing the country’s challenges.

Citing an example of youth-driven success, he stated that Zambia’s best-performing Constituency Development Fund (CDF) utilization was led by Munir Zulu, a young parliamentarian.

He added that Zulu’s achievements surpassed even those of Local Government Minister Gary Nkombo, who is responsible for overseeing CDF at the national level.

Encouraging young people to continue pushing for change, Mukandila stressed that the time for youth leadership in Zambia had arrived.

He urged them to remain engaged, take up leadership roles, and contribute to the country’s progress.

NWP CHIEFS DEMANDS 15% MINERAL ROYALTY TAXES COLLECTED BY GOVT FROM THE MINES

NWP CHIEFS DEMANDS 15% MINERAL ROYALTY TAXES COLLECTED BY GOVT FROM THE MINES

By SANJIMBA KANGANJA,

*08 th March, 2025*

*Chiefs in North Western Province  demands 15% Mineral Royalty taxes collected by government from the mines*.

Chief in North western province have demanded government to give 15 percent of the mineral royalty taxes collected from the mining companies to the people of North western Province.

Speaking during the press briefing held at Floriana Lodge, North western Council of Chiefs Chairperson Dr. Chief Mumena says every province should have a share of the royalty taxes from the investments it hosts.

Chief Mumena says the share will help the provinces to attain the development they deserves.

He notices it with concern to see the province that contribute a large share to the National Treasury only being assured to receive capital projects understand Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

The Provincial Council of Chiefs Chairperson cites that the PPP projects are only on paper, adding that the situation is not favourable to the people of North western province.

He adds that government should  quickly consider implementing the construction of a Public University and Provincial airport assured to the people of North western province by his excellence president Hakainde Hichilema.

The Traditional leaders also demands the actualization of the University Teaching Hospitals whose ground breaking ceremony was done in 2022  by the Republican Vice President Mrs Mutale W.K Nalumango.

In another development, the Council of Chiefs has demanded government to provide resources to utilize during the Consultative Meetings on the Amendment of the Land Act of 1995, adding that this will enable the Chiefs and other stakeholders to make  submissions.

The Council has  expressed sadness with government for operationalizing the Mines and Minerals Commission without including the chiefs who are the custodians of the land where the minerals are found.

The Chiefs  have  bemoaned that, not only being denied an access to meet the head of state to discuss on developmental issues, government has gone an extra mile to deny  financial support to the chiefs in the province during their engagement  meetings aimed to discuss developmental issues affecting the province.

The North western Council of Chiefs has further resolved that, government should recognize the standardized customary land certification to avoid  leaving the land in speculation, the situation described to  likely  leave the indigenous residents in a miserable state.

Can Married Women Own Property Separately?

Can Married Women Own Property Separately?
By Dickson Jere

A man had entered into a contract with ZAMTEL for the provision of mobile telephone services to him in 2003. He provided his flat as his usual address of service. Years later, he married and his wife moved into the same flat and she came with her own household goods. During the marriage, he left Zambia for school in the UK. It appears before he got married, he did not settle the telephone bill which stood at over K16 million (unrebased).

In 2005, ZAMTEL sued for the unsettled bill. Since he was out of the country, the Court Process was left at the same flat. He did not enter appearance nor defence and therefore ZAMTEL obtained a Judgment by Default. The company thereafter proceeded to execute the judgment through the bailiffs who seized the household goods including those belonging to the wife.

She ‘sued’ ZAMTEL under the “Interpleader” Summons where she claimed her seized goods as they did not belong to her husband. In 2009, a Consent Order was settled in which ZAMTEL agreed to return the seized goods to her.

However, upon being given back her goods, she launched another case against ZAMTEL in which she claimed that the execution was unlawful and that she suffered mental anguish, embarrassment and loss of amenities.
In defence, ZAMTEL argued that they seized goods on the address that was given by her husband and it was difficult to ascertain properties that belonged to each person during execution.

The High Court ruled that the execution was lawful and the absence of the husband did not provide immunity from seizure of assets perceived to be his or family.

The matter reached the Court of Appeal and she argued that the Married Women’s Property Act of the UK, which applies to Zambia, allows married women to own property independently from their husbands.

“The Writ of Execution was properly issued and directed to the residential address of the judgment debtor,” a panel of three Judges opined.

“Where goods of a third person in possession of a judgment debtor are seized in execution of a judgment and the execution is regularly issued, then the seizure or execution cannot be said to be wrongful,” the Court said.

They opined that the lady should have claimed her damages in the earlier case when she was given back her goods rather than start a fresh action although High a court had given her permission to do so.

Case citation- Kasumpa Kabalata v ZAMTEL – Appeal No.72/2023 and Judgement delivered last month on 26th February, 2025.

I wish the Court of Appeal had canvassed more on the issue of independent ownership of property of married women in Zambia. Even though ZAMTEL agreed to return her goods, we should have developed this jurisprudence further for future guidance.

3 Kalomo assasins received K5,000 payment for killing businessman

3 Kalomo assasins received K5,000 payment for killing businessman

FOR a mere K5,000 – a sum that is only enough to pay dowry for two girls in Kitwe or Mufulira, three men agreed to kill a 56-year-old businessman of Kalomo district in Southern Province.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/15ATsVNohy/?mibextid=oFDknk

With the payment secured, the trio carried out the hit, gunning to death Winter Hamundyoli, of
Maboboli village in the presence of his pregnant wife.

But justice was swift in catching up with the assassins.

After a crack team of detectives closed in, the trio crumbled under painful police questioning, confessing to their heinous crime.

According to a story published by the Zambia Daily Mail, Maboboli was shot dead using a shotgun on February 28. about eight times around 20:00 hours while he was driving his light truck, with passengers on board, including his pregnant wife, Emelda Khulo.

His wife was in the passenger’s seat when her husband was killed.

Southern Province police commanding officer Auxensio Daka said police have detained Levy Masamba, Soviet Masamba, 47, and Talent
Siamala, 35, of Maboboli village, who have confessed to the gruesome murder.

“During interrogations, the suspects revealed that they were hired for K5,000 by a known person to kill the deceased, Winter Hamundyoli,” he said.

“The payment was divided among the suspects, with Levy getting K2,000, while Siamala and Soviet got K1,500 each,” he said.

Daka said the suspects led the police to recover the firearm used in the murder, a shotgun with serial number 7878, which was found hidden in a hole in the bushes at Masamba’s residence.

He said it was established that Levy Masamba was the one who pulled the trigger.

“Police also established that the firearm was borrowed from a known male person, who is currently on the run.

Additionally, the ammunition used in the crime was supplied by another known male person from Kalomo town,” Daka revealed.

Daka said investigations have intensified to bring
everyone involved to book.

IT’S RAINING PRESS BRIEFINGS AT ANDERSON MAZOKA HOUSE…

IT’S RAINING PRESS BRIEFINGS AT ANDERSON MAZOKA HOUSE…

The energy of saying nothing is seemingly taking centre stage at the UPND’S Secretariat since the Mark Simuuwe team was put in place after downgrading the other bunch of silent media experts. The energy is good I must say, just that they talk to themselves and communicate absolutely nothing to the masses.

Simuuwe and Oliver Shalala have basically stormed airwaves through their daily press briefings, they are all over dishing out media alerts everytime the sun rises. No break at all since they took office. Their pages are full of long and short articles, copy and paste at times saying absolutely nothing. Their desire to comment on anything and everything is in high gear. I hear they have a press briefing this morning, the other day and yesterday they did the same.

Well, I must state here that Opposition and civil society leaders have made Mark Simuuwe and his team to buy power banks and solar systems just to make sure they are online 24/7 looking for what Emmanuel Mwamba, Given Lubinda and indeed fred M’membe have said and before making a conclusive assessment, they usually call the media or use their fully charged phones to capture videos in response to the opposition.

What could be prompting this? Maybe ka funding is great, I mean, what else can make grown ups like Simuuwe and Shalala to ignore sleep so that they can hear what they can respond to?

Unfortunately, they have no tact to create trends like I had alluded to last week. They have so far not explained anything to the Zambian people why the economy under their employer’s leadership has remained in limbo, and indeed they have not spoken to Zambians with some resemblance of hope regards the future of Zambia’s wellbeing.

Trust me, people will get fatigued very soon, I mean, they say nothing after all, what will be there to waste bundles on really? Could this be testing waters? But who tests waters in such a manner?

Anyway, let’s hear what they will have to say, I am sure it is another catalogue of responses or pre-empting their agenda for Constitutional amendments as proposed and yes they will surely talk about ECL and SEAN TEMBO..

“ZAMBIA’S CONSTITUTIONAL QUAGMIRE: LUNGU’S REFUSAL TO  HAND Over POWER”

“ZAMBIA’S CONSTITUTIONAL QUAGMIRE: LUNGU’S REFUSAL TO  HAND Over POWER”

By Timmy

The Zambian Constitution is clear: when a presidential election petition is filed, the President must cease to exercise the powers and functions of the office pending the determination of the petition. However, in 2016, President Edgar Lungu refused to hand over power to the Speaker, arguing that the Constitution did not explicitly state that he should do so. This move was widely criticized by Zambians and civil society groups, who argued that it was unconstitutional and undermined the rule of law.

Lungu’s actions can be seen as a controversial and potentially unconstitutional breach. His refusal to hand over power to the Speaker was a clear violation of Article 105 of the Constitution, which states that the President must cease to exercise the powers and functions of the office pending the determination of the petition.

The implications of Lungu’s actions extend far beyond his own political ambitions. His disregard for the constitution has eroded trust in the democratic process and undermined the integrity of Zambia’s institutions. If allowed to continue, this trend will have far-reaching consequences for the country’s stability and democratic future.

Lungu’s eligibility to contest the 2026 elections has been a subject of debate, with many arguing that he is not eligible due to his previous two terms in office. The Constitutional Court’s recent ruling has declared him ineligible to contest the 2026 elections.

As Zambians, we must not forget the lessons of the past. Lungu’s presidency was a disaster, and his return to power would be catastrophic. We must stand firm against his attempts to subvert the constitution and demand that he respects the rule of law.

The PF’s desperation to cling to power again is evident in their attempts to bribe and intimidate anyone who opposes them. However, their tactics will not work. The people of Zambia are awake, and we will not be silenced.

Edgar Lungu’s presidential ambitions are a threat to Zambia’s democracy and stability. We must reject his candidacy and demand that he respects the constitution. Anything less would be a betrayal of the trust that the people of Zambia have placed in their leaders.

Assassinations, rituals, and power struggles within ZANU PF

Socialite and activist Susan Mutami has stirred controversy with explosive claims regarding internal conflicts within ZANU PF, alleging that state security agents were involved in assassination plots and ritualistic practices during the ruling party’s succession battles. Her shocking revelations have added fuel to the ongoing discussions about the dark side of Zimbabwe’s political landscape.

Mutami took to her social media platform to recount a chilling account of how the late Professor Jonathan Moyo’s daughter was allegedly murdered by a state-sponsored hit squad during the height of the ZANU PF leadership struggle. According to Mutami, the assassination was part of a series of covert actions by the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO), which she claims has a history of engaging in ritualistic blood-drinking practices to “cleanse” their victims, a practice allegedly rooted in the traditions of the liberation war.

“As you all know, tragically, Prof Jonathan Moyo’s daughter was eliminated by a hit squad during the peak of ZANU PF succession battles. I had been following the story closely behind the scenes, and the day I saw him cry at the funeral broke me into pieces. To make matters worse, she was buried without her most precious organ,” Mutami wrote.

She went on to claim that the CIO operatives, as part of their ritual, consume the blood of their victims as part of a “cleansing” process to purify the soul, which she says is a practice that dates back to wartime traditions. While these claims are yet to be substantiated, they have prompted widespread discussion about the extent of state-sponsored violence and secretive rituals in Zimbabwe’s political power struggles.

Mutami also exposed a covert plot she claims she uncovered to assassinate Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the son of the late former President Robert Mugabe. According to Mutami, the plot was a form of political retribution against the former First Lady Grace Mugabe, stemming from deep-rooted political grievances.

“I happened to stumble upon a covert file where people were planning to eliminate Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe because his mother had stepped on their toes. My conscience wouldn’t let me rest, and I didn’t want Dr. Grace Mugabe to go through what Prof Jonathan Moyo had gone through,” Mutami revealed.

Mutami further claims that she shared this information with the late President Mugabe through a trusted CIO contact. She alleges that Mugabe was shocked by her revelation, as even the intelligence agency had been unaware of the plot.

“They asked me to repeat the story five times. Happyton Bonyongwe knows about this story. They investigated my claims, which turned out to be true, and President Mugabe was shocked how I had managed to gather that kind of information because the organisation didn’t have the data, and I wasn’t trained to do that kind of work,” she said.

Impressed by her intelligence-gathering skills, Mutami claims that President Mugabe personally offered her a position within the CIO, but she turned it down, stating that she had no interest in intelligence work or relocating back to Zimbabwe.

“I was offered employment in the CIO by the late President Mugabe himself, but I politely declined the offer because I didn’t do a gesture of goodwill for a reward,” she explained.

In addition to the offer from Mugabe’s CIO, Mutami claimed that Zimbabwe’s Defence Intelligence also sought to recruit her, offering professional training and a job. However, former Foreign Affairs Minister Sibusiso (SB) Moyo opposed her recruitment. She recalls a tense meeting with Moyo, where he gave her an ultimatum to choose between the job offer from Defence Intelligence and her loyalty to him.

“SB Moyo got wind of the proposal and called for an urgent meet-up. He angrily asked if I was out of my mind. He didn’t want me in the system but by his side whenever he needed me. He gave me an option to choose between him and the Defence Intelligence job offer, and of course, you all know I loved that man. I chose him, and to date, I don’t have any regrets,” Mutami shared.

Mutami concluded her revelations by urging ZANU PF members to reflect on the innocent lives affected by their internal power struggles. She lamented the cycle of violence, betrayal, and exploitation within the ruling party, warning that political battles often come at the cost of human lives.

“As you fight each other in ZANU PF, always think of the innocent casualties that might suffer because of your actions. ZANU is like a beast that devours its own grandchildren,” she said.

Her remarks have reignited discussions on the murky nature of Zimbabwe’s political landscape, where allegations of assassinations, internal purges, and intelligence plots have long been whispered within political circles. However, ZANU PF and government officials have yet to publicly respond to her claims.

As the debate continues, the Zimbabwean public is left grappling with the implications of these explosive allegations, questioning the extent to which state power has been used to eliminate perceived political threats, as well as the moral cost of the country’s political ambitions.
