BAMUNYINANE ‘I DID NOT COLLAPSE’: KAMBWILI SETS RECORD STRAIGHT AFTER COURT NO-SHOW

By: Justin Banda

Ichibemba Chitila…..Former Minister of Information and Patriotic Front Member Chishimba Kambwili has dismissed reports that he collapsed and was rushed to the hospital.

Some sections of the media had reported that Mr. Kambwili fell ill and failed to appear before the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court, where he was scheduled to open his defence in a case in which he is charged with unlawful assembly.

Appearing live on his Facebook page, Mr. Kambwili clarified that he had a minor accident, which required him to go to the hospital for a check-up.

He explained that he instructed his lawyers to ask the court to stand down the matter so he could be attended to by medical personnel.

However, he said the hospital took longer than expected, leading the court to adjourn the case.

Mr. Kambwili insisted that he is fit.

Why I Detest HH and UPND Politics: A Critical Reflection on Zambia’s Democratic Decline- Chitundu

Why I Detest HH and UPND Politics: A Critical Reflection on Zambia’s Democratic Decline

By Chitundu

The political culture of the United Party for National Development under President Hakainde Hichilema has evolved into a troubling paradox. What once appeared to be a promise of reform, meritocracy, and national renewal has instead become an exercise in exclusion, self praise, and institutional capture. The degeneration of Zambia’s democratic environment under the banner of economic efficiency and a disciplined anti corruption posture mirrors what political scholars describe as the authoritarian temptation, where leaders justify coercive rule in the name of progress.

This isn’t a partisan lament, but an intellectual critique anchored in evidence, literature, and historical context. I detest HH and UPND politics because it has replaced democratic ethos with personal glorification, civic participation with loyalty tests, and national unity with tribal dominance. These patterns can be analysed through several interlinked pillars: the cult of personality, the normalization of ignorance, the myth of genius leadership, the ends justify means culture, and the tribal spiritual consolidation of political power.

1. The Cult of Personality: Leadership as Idolatry

Political theorist Friedrich Hayek warned that when citizens place their faith in a great man, they surrender freedom for the illusion of security. The UPND’s communication strategy, which portrays HH as the embodiment of wisdom, efficiency, and purity, has given birth to a leadership cult. He is no longer seen as a civil servant accountable to institutions but as a messianic figure whose decisions must be accepted without question.

Drawing from Erich Fromm’s psychological work on the escape from freedom, citizens overwhelmed by economice frustration and national anxiety often prefer paternal leaders who promise stability. Under HH, state institutions, including ministries and regulatory bodies, have been reconfigured to orbit around presidential will rather than constitutional procedure. This diminishes civic autonomy and makes criticism of the president a social taboo, creating an echo chamber of praise disguised as patriotism.

2. The Normalization of Ignorance: The Politics of Unquestioning Loyalty

Antonio Gramsci argued that hegemony is maintained not only through force but through the manufacturing of consent rooted in ignorance. Within UPND, political discourse has shifted from issue based reasoning to blind loyalty. Party supporters are encouraged to defend HH’s decisions regardless of legality or morality.

Social media spaces, which should be arenas for democratic dialogue, have been turned into platforms for insults, propaganda, and intimidation. Facts and evidence are rejected as political manipulation, and party slogans replace intellectual thought. Ngugi wa Thiong’o observed that political systems which reward ignorance eventually produce what he called educated parrots, individuals who can speak but not think critically.

This culture of intellectual surrender corrodes Zambia’s public sphere and silences professionals, journalists, and civil servants who fear victimization for expressing independent thought. When truth becomes politicized, policy failures can be easily concealed behind party loyalty.

3. The Myth of Genius Leadership: The Technocrat Messiah

Supporters of HH often describe him as a financial genius whose business achievements automatically translate into exceptionale political leadership. Yet history warns against such assumptions. Max Weber, in his work on charismatic authority, noted that charisma becomes dangerous when reverence substitutes competence.

UPND’s inner circle cultivates the perception that HH is Zambia’s only capable mind. This produces complacency within government because bureaucrats avoid contradicting the president’s public image as a brilliant economic reformer. Ministries freeze in decision making, waiting for approval from above, and national policy becomes dependent on the preferences of one individual.

Such glorification undermines democratic principles. It limits collective accountability and transforms the state into a personality centered administrative space rather than an institution centered republic.

4. The Ends Justify Means Governance: Machiavellian Ethics in Practice

UPND’s political conduct reflects a classic Machiavellian approach, where any tactic that preserves power is justified, even at the cost of justice or public trust. Selective prosecutions, intimidation of rival politicians, suppression of labour unions, interference with civil society, and manipulation of state institutions all point to a government that prioritizes political victory over principled governance.

Zambian scholar Mwizenge Tembo once wrote that a regime that sacrifices morality for control digs its own legitimacy grave. Under UPND, the Anti Corruption Commission, Drug Enforcement Commission, and Zambia Police appear to conduct operations that disproportionately target opposition figures while shielding allies.

This selective morality converts justice into a political theatre. A government that once condemned oppression now governs through systematic intimidation, transforming fear into a national currency.

5. Tribalism as a Political Engine

Ethnicity has become the silent but powerful engine of political consolidation under UPND. From senior government appointments to public procurement and diplomatic placements, there is a noticeable pattern of regional concentration. Scholars such as Ali Mazrui and Claude Ake have argued that liberation movements often convert ethnic loyalty into political permanence once they ascend to power.

Instead of dismantling tribal barriers, UPND has sustained them for strategic advantage. Political mobilisation in Southern Province remains intense and unwavering, reinforcing the perception that the region functions as a permanent political fortress. In many state corridors, tribal identity now plays a decisive role in access to influence and economic opportunity, undermining the national philosophy of One Zambia, One Nation.

This trend threatens cohesion and risks creating an ethnic aristocracy embedded in the fabric of public power.

6. The Persecution of PF Leaders, Families, and Sympathizers

One of the most disturbing realities of the current political environment is the targeting of former Patriotic Front leaders and their families. What began as an anti corruption agenda has mutated into collective punishment. Children, siblings, spouses, and even distant relatives of PF figures have been arrested, interrogated, or harassed merely for sharing a surname with a political rival.

Elderly parents have died from stress and humiliation associated with endless court appearances. Homes have been raided and property seized without due process. Many families now live in constant fear of state sponsored persecution.

Hannah Arendt warned that the origins of totalitarianism lie in the notion that guilt is inherited through association rather than proven through action. Zambia must never accept a political culture where family identity becomes a crime and where innocence depends on political affiliation.

No ethical government destroys families to impress a head of state. Such cruelty diminishes the presidency and corrodes the nation’s moral foundation.

7. The Southern Province Political Fortress and Its Spiritual Foundations

Observers increasingly describe Southern Province as a political fortress that operates as an unbreakable stronghold for UPND. This is not a religious comparison but a sociopolitical observation rooted in loyalty, ideology, and collective identity. The region provides near absolute electoral support and functions as the cultural and emotional center of UPND power.

A critical and often overlooked component of this structure is the influence of the Seventh day Adventist community. The SDA’s disciplined organisational culture, moral strictness, emphasis on education, and communal solidarity have indirectly shaped UPND’s political identity. HH, molded within this environment, has drawn from these networks to build a political order defined by loyalty, moral rhetoric, and strategic cohesion.

When this religious cultural identity merges with political allegiance, dissent transforms into betrayal. Opposition within the region is rare, and UPND’s dominance is maintained with spiritual weight and ethnic solidarity. As the party tries to expand this model into other regions, it relies on tribal alliances, spiritual symbolism, and political pressure, creating a system where national politics becomes intertwined with regional spiritual identity.

This trend threatens the foundational idea of a secular republic and risks turning Zambia into a federation of political faiths rather than a nation of equal citizens.

Conclusion: A Call for Democratic Renewal

My detestation of HH and UPND politics is a defence of democracy. It is a plea for constitutional accountability, moral leadership, and national unity. The party’s governance reflects elements of what Dr Delroy Paulhus described as the dark triad of leadership, a combination of narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy expressed through manipulation, intimidation, and emotional indifference.

If Zambia’s democratic future is to be preserved, citizens must resist the seduction of messianic leadership and reject the normalisation of political persecution. HH and UPND must be reminded that legitimacy is not earned through victory alone but must be renewed continuously through justice, humility, and genuine inclusion.

Zambia’s earlier leaders were imperfect, but they upheld a foundational principle: no individual is greater than the Republic. That principle must not die in our generation.

Shock Move as China  Funds South Africa HIV Fight After U.S. Exit

 Shock Move as China  Funds SA HIV Fight After U.S. Exit

China  stepped forward with a gesture that sent a loud message across the globe. While the United States pulls back from its long standing HIV support commitments, China has chosen to fill the space with a R65 million contribution to South Africa’s  HIV response fund.

The announcement was made at a packed media briefing where the Chinese ambassador spoke about friendship, cooperation, and a shared responsibility to protect human life. The room listened closely as he explained that South Africa’s fight against HIV is not just a national struggle but a continental one, and China refuses to let progress slip backward.

For South Africa, the funding arrives at a critical moment. Clinics, outreach teams, and community workers have raised concerns about the pressure created by shrinking international support. China’s move brings relief, but it also brings a shift in the global balance of influence. Where one global power steps back, another steps in.

The ambassador described the partnership as a long term investment in South African health systems. Officials from the Department of Health welcomed the support and emphasised that the fight against HIV needs strong allies who are willing to stand firm when others hesitate.

In the end, the story is simple. South Africa needed help. One partner pulled away. Another stepped forward. And in that choice, China made it clear that it intends to be present wherever African progress is on the line!✊ What’s your take on this..?樂

ECZ STATISTICS ARE BEHIND, S/PROVINCE HAS REGISTERED OVER 430,000 VOTERS – NANJUWA

26th November 2025

SOUTHERN Province Minister Credo Nanjuwa says the province has surpassed its voter registration target of 420,001, recording over 430,000 new registrations and updates.

This is contrary to the Electoral Commission of Zambia’s voter registration statistics for the province. The minister justified this by stating that ECZ is behind in updating its records.

According to the official ECZ statistics per province, as at November 11, Southern Province had recorded just over 143,000 new registrations, the second highest after Copperbelt with over 165,000, while Lusaka was third with over 120,000 new registrations.

In an interview, Tuesday, Nanjuwa said his ministry was getting daily updates and as of Monday, new registrations had crossed the 200,000 mark. “We set our provincial target to achieve….

My govt will refuse to use tribe as a means for political insulation and will never invoke ethnic bias to deflect criticism or shield myself from accountability- Harry Kalaba

Open your eyes Zambia

Harry Kalaba writes;

Thank you, Zambia, for your thoughtful engagement with my initial response to President Hichilema’s 25th November 2025 State House briefing. Our nation has reached a moment where we must listen carefully, but also think critically; where we must respect the office of the President, but also examine the substance of presidential speech.

In the coming days, I will unpack the President’s briefing, issue by issue, not to provoke division, but to elevate national understanding, sharpen political clarity, and reclaim the role of citizens as informed participants in our democracy.

Today, I begin with an issue that sits at the intersection of identity, governance and national cohesion: tribalism. Tribalism is not simply a matter of language or lineage; it is a governance question, a justice question and ultimately a leadership question.

How a President speaks about tribe matters, because it can either deepen unity or harden suspicion. The President chose to present tribalism largely as something done to him rather than something that must be dismantled for all of us. That framing moves the conversation away from institution-building and towards a personal narrative of implied inferiority of the President’s tribe.

In a peaceful, multi-ethnic nation like Zambia, what a President says about tribe matters: deeply. It can unite or isolate, heal or reopen old wounds and at its worst, it can incite. In his press briefing, President Hichilema did not speak about tribalism as a national problem to be solved, but as something done to him personally.

Instead of using the platform to lift the country above ethnic suspicion, he unintentionally reinforced a familiar and troubling narrative: that criticism of his leadership style and decisions often hides tribal motive. In the world of politics, this is a veiled instruction to blind loyalists.

When a Head of State treats tribal tension as a personal grievance rather than a structural challenge, it produces two harmful effects. It turns national unity into a matter of sympathy rather than policy, and it risks labelling fair criticism as tribal hostility. In that moment, politics begins to shield itself with the skin of tribe, not from it.

What was missing from the President’s remarks was a vision of how tribal identity can be respected without being weaponised; how regional diversity can be reflected in public institutions without breeding entitlement; and how appointments, public service recruitment and state contracts can be managed transparently so that citizens stop asking where someone comes from and start asking what they can deliver.

When elected, we will not treat tribalism as a speech theme but as a governance challenge. We will disarm it through inclusive action, not targeted condemnation. That begins by replacing rhetoric with institutional fairness, allowing citizens to see inclusion reflected in appointments, public procurement, service delivery and access to opportunity, regardless of name or region. We will nurture a culture where tribe is identity, not currency; where heritage is celebrated but never traded for jobs, scholarships or political favour, and where merit, not language, becomes the common ground of national life.

My administration will refuse to use tribe as a means for political insulation and will never invoke ethnic bias to deflect criticism or shield myself from accountability, knowing that protection should come from integrity, not identity.

I will ensure Zambia grows into a nation where disagreement is no longer interpreted through tribal lines, because tribalism shrinks a country while collective citizenship enlarges it. ok

A President does not unite a nation by reminding people of his tribe. He unites it by making sure no one has to remember it. That is the difference between managing perceptions and building a nation.

PARAMOUNT CHIEF MPEZENI ENDORSES PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S LEADERSHIP, URGES DIALOGUE AMONG CHURCH, CSOS, AND GOVERNMENT

PARAMOUNT CHIEF MPEZENI ENDORSES PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S LEADERSHIP, URGES DIALOGUE AMONG CHURCH, CSOS, AND GOVERNMENT

Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people has urged the Church and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to pursue meaningful dialogue with government regarding the proposed constitutional amendments rather than resorting to street protests.

The Chief has encouraged the Church to engage Senior Traditional Leaders across the country if all avenues of dialogue with government have been exhausted.

He has further advised the church and government to agree on a practical and balanced roadmap that addresses concerns on both sides, noting that peaceful engagement was more productive than public demonstrations. Chief Mpezeni has emphasised that delimitation remains an urgent matter, as some constituencies are significantly larger than others.

In a show of solidarity, Chief Mpezeni has endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership, particularly commending the increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF), which he described as a blessing to communities.

He notes that the fund has enabled many constituencies to acquire graders, police vehicles, ambulances, and other essential assets.

The Chief also thanked the President for the free education policy, which has resulted in a notable rise in school enrolment. He further applauded the decentralisation agenda, which has expanded the number of beneficiaries under the Social Cash Transfer programme, an initiative he said was helping to alleviate rural poverty.

Commenting on the opposition Patriotic Front (PF), Chief Mpezeni criticised the internal leadership disputes rocking the party. He urged the PF to resolve its differences, noting that national leadership requires order and unity, not a situation where numerous individuals claim authority at the same time.

Chief Mpezeni appealed to citizens to give President Hichilema more time to deliver on his commitments. He emphasised that the ongoing electricity challenges are not new, and expressed confidence that the current government is doing everything possible to address the issue through proper planning rather than blame-shifting.

Speaking at a press briefing this morning, the Paramount Chief concluded by reminding Zambians that the President is human and capable of making errors like anyone else, urging the public to maintain realistic expectations while supporting national progress.

KAMBWILI ACCUSES GOVERNMENT OF MISLEADING ZAMBIANS ON KCM AND MOPANI REVIVAL

KAMBWILI ACCUSES GOVERNMENT OF MISLEADING ZAMBIANS ON KCM AND MOPANI REVIVAL

….there is nothing happening at KCM and Mopani mines

Lusaka… Thursday November 27, 2025 (SE)

Former Chief Government Spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili says there is “nothing happening” at Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) and Mopani Copper Mines (MCM) despite the government’s claims that the two strategic mines have been successfully revived.

Featuring on KBN TV, the former Roan Member of Parliament accused Mines Minister Paul Kabuswe of misleading President Hakainde Hichilema by portraying the mines as operational and performing well when, in reality, they are struggling.

Hon Kambwili argued that both mines have failed to pay contractors and suppliers, contrary to the positive image the government has projected.

“We are being told that KCM is back and doing very well. There is nothing happening at Konkola Copper Mines. We are being told Mopani is back – equally, there is nothing happening at Mopani,” he said.

“Suppliers are not being paid, contractors are not being paid. They are paid after four or five months. But you are telling the people everything is alright at KCM and Mopani.”

He further accused President Hichilema of giving misleading information regarding the shareholding structure at Mopani, saying the claim that government negotiated a 49% stake was “an excellent lie.”

According to Hon Kambwili, Mopani’s share acquisition was negotiated under the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu after Glencore attempted to place the mining operations under care and maintenance.

“Glencore surrendered the mine and agreed to give back 100% ownership, with government paying US$1.5 billion for the new installations the smelter, concentrator, and shafts. So who negotiated the shares? It was the ECL government, not HH,” he said.

Hon Kambwili also claimed that real mining activity at KCM remains minimal, alleging that the Indian investor is only processing surface dumps while key operations remain inactive.

“People of Zambia, there is nothing happening at KCM. At Nchanga underground nothing. Nchanga open pit nothing. Only a bit of work at Konkola. So where is the President getting this information? Kabuswe, if you are lying to the big man, you are being unfair to him.”

I Have Been Offered S34x for Donations for My Dad’s Medical Treatment- Mara Moyo

I Have Been Offered S34x for Donations for My Dad’s Medical Treatment

A few weeks ago, I posted an appeal on my Facebook page and also on pages of various media houses such as Prime TV and Muvi TV. These appeals were meant to raise financial help to enable my dad to travel to the USA at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, for his vital medical procedures that were due on Tuesday, 25th November, to 4th December for a series of vital medical procedures before he could finally have a vagus nerve stimulator implant procedure later in December.

The appeal had our phone numbers that were meant for the channelling of the donations by well-wishers.

However, following that appeal, some unscrupulous people have shockingly sought to take advantage and to exploit my situation on behalf of my dad by offering me sex holidays in exchange for donating money for my dad’s medical travel expenses.

For example, four men at four different times individually travelled to Livingstone from Lusaka claiming they were coming to meet me and my dad to donate money for his travel medical expenses, only to invite me to hotels to spend weekend nights for what some termed the “nights of enjoyment” with them, which invitations I declined.

I have equally had one man offering a holiday to Dubai with him, then he would sponsor my dad to hospital while I go and rest with him in Dubai.

Another offered me a holiday to Sun City in South Africa, then he would fund my dad’s travel expenses.

I have received numerous inbox proposals in exchange for helping with my dad’s medical travel expenses.

But I have rejected all these because I am not going to sell myself for the purpose of saving my dad’s life. I would rather bury my dad than give in to such predatory behaviour that is rife among many men who seek to exploit vulnerable girls and women in our society.

Fellow Zambians, I find this behaviour barbaric, inhuman and very disgusting, especially coming at the back of me making appeals on behalf of my beloved dad who is lying on his deathbed at home. This is conduct that exhibits the worst of humanity. My appeal was not and is not a marketing exercise for predators to take advantage and pounce.

This conduct has left my dad and the whole family very shocked that my dad’s sickness and my appeals for help could see people seek to exploit in such a depraved and sickening manner.

If I desired love, I could have found it a long time ago. But instead, I made a choice that loving my dad by caring for him was the best I could ever have done, because I have only one father whose life is worth my life and sacrifice.

I sacrificed my youth from the age of 22 when I graduated as a Registered Nurse at Livingstone School of Nursing in 2015 as Best Student in Medicine and Overall Best in Theory. Now I am 32 years old, focusing on the only love of my life, which is my dad. It is a choice I made to be there for my dad who has serious medical issues.

I am single not because I am desperate; it is because I am married to a cause — the cause of nursing and caring for my beloved dad. A cause greater than sex, partying and holidays.

Let me hasten to add this point. I think many don’t know who I am and who my dad is. My dad is a veteran of fighting against the sexual abuses of women and girls. I have had the pleasure of accompanying my dad across the country and Africa, where he has taken his signature mantra message that:

“The value of women and girls is not in sex or childbearing, but in what they can achieve when educated, empowered and independent to contribute to society.”

This is what my dad taught me early in my life. My value will never be in sex or childbearing, but in what I can do to contribute to society. Right now, my contribution is my dad’s life and welfare in his time of need until he is healed or his last breath.

I never, ever imagined I could be asked to offer sex in exchange for my dad’s life. I just love my dad so much. I would be willing to lose my life for him, but I would never offer sex for him to live. I would rather have my dad buried than offer sex to buy him some oxygen.

Similarly, there is another group of people consisting of prominent people that has shocked us. They respond to the appeals and promise to donate money. They ask what we need, travel cost estimates, travel dates and all details, and promise to make donations on particular dates. They make us relax our fundraising efforts and make us plan our departure. However, they decide to keep quiet without reverting to us when, in the first place, their offers were made out of their own free will by them contacting us.

To such, please I beg you to stop it. Stop it. You are killing my dad. Don’t give my dad false promises in his desperate time of need. I beg these people to stop. Stop traumatising my dad. He is totally devastated by such conduct. I am equally shocked at such behaviour. How do you come to a man on his deathbed, promise him life, and then break his heart? What kind of cruelty is that? My dad was supposed to be checking in at Mayo Clinic on 25th November, but because of such cruel people who made us relax but never came through after giving us assurances, we never left. Please spare my dad — let him die in peace.

I also wish to warn those who go to my page with comments that violate the Cyber Security Act of 2025: I will have you arrested. I am warning you.

To those wanting me to offer sex for my dad’s life, my message is this:

I am not for sale. My value is not in sex or childbearing.

We continue seeking the goodwill of Zambians with genuine kindness to help my dad travel.

Finally, we thank the four SDA singing groups who raised K30,000 through fundraising singing that took place on 22nd November in Lusaka towards my dad’s medical travel expenses.

The groups are:

1. Rudo Accapella

2. Usher Masempela

3. Music Voix

4. Maita

God bless them all.

Each day brings dad’s end of life. Your support will help save his life.

SENIOR CHIEF MUCHINDA THANKS HH BUT CONDEMNS TREASON THREAT FROM DC

SENIOR CHIEF MUCHINDA THANKS HH BUT CONDEMNS TREASON THREAT FROM DC

Senior Chief Muchinda Kankomba Welala III of Serenje District, Central Province, has expressed gratitude to President Hakainde Hichilema for sending a fact-finding team to investigate allegations of impropriety.

He thanked the President for choosing to seek the truth through engagement rather than acting on misinformation.

Chief Muchinda revealed that on 21st November 2025, House of Chiefs Chairperson Chief Choongo and Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) Chairperson Mr Hamusankwa visited the Chief’s palace in Serenje, accompanied by the Serenje District Commissioner, other senior government officials, and state security wings.

He stated that the purpose of the visit was to investigate concerns surrounding how he has been treating farmers and individuals holding mining licences.

The Chief welcomed the opportunity to express himself and accepted the proposed roadmap for land and mining audits.

However, Chief Muchinda voiced disappointment with Serenje District Commissioner Paul Masuwa, who threatened him with treason for calling for land and mine licence auditing.

He described the threat as a personal attack, expressing concern that it stemmed from deep-seated animosity.

The Chief stated that the land audit initiative is not personal but intended to uncover how land was acquired and converted into state farms and blocks when there was no Chief for many years.

He criticised certain investors for occupying large tracts of land without proper utilisation, accusing them of exploiting local resources.

Chief Muchinda affirmed that land audits would continue and warned that uncooperative farmers and miners would not be tolerated in the chiefdom.

He condemned the act of some farmers submitting land documents to the District Commissioner instead of the chiefdom, which had requested them to aid in the auditing process.

When reached for a comment, Serenje District Commissioner Paul Masuwa said he used the word “treason” because he was not pleased with some reports he was receiving from Muchinda Chiefdom.

Mr Masuwa stated that the Government is willing to support Chief Muchinda on land auditing, citing bureaucracy as the cause of delays.

He added that the Government recognises Chiefs as partners in development and will continue to work closely with them.

Hubby has damaged my digestive exhaust organ, cries Lusaka wife

Hubby has damaged my SIM 2, cries Lusaka wife

A YOUNG woman of Lusaka’s Chilulu Township has sworn before court that she would rather start her own PF faction and risk the wrath of Robert Chabinga than continue in a marriage with a man as old as her own grandfather but with a weird craving for backside penetration.

After entering the court with a suspicious step as if she had a leg injury, 35-year old Elizabeth Phiri begged the court to divorce her from 57-year old Steven Sindinda on grounds that he had damaged her digestive exhaust due to constant demands for anal sex.

Elizabeth further alleged that Sindinda was also a childish grandpa who could not keep his mouth shut but was fond of broadcasting their matrimonial issues to anything that had a pair of ears.

In his defence, Sinyinda claimed that Elizabeth was unfaithful and, that one time when she left their home, when she returned, he inspected her private parts and discovered some whitish milky syrup suspiciously oozing down; a tell-tale sign that she was returning from an away fixture with another lover.

With the image of Elizabeth’s rear injuries still fresh in her mind, Magistrate Harriet Mulenga to save Elizabeth from more ripping by Sinyinda, granted the couple a divorce.

The marriage lasted only 90 days.

Magistrate Mulenga advised Elizabeth in future to consider men her age especially that grandpas hand proved to be a threat to the ends of her digestive system.https://kalemba.news/…/hubby-has-damaged-my-sim-2…/

Salon Owner Arrested for “Kidnapping” Client Who Refused to Pay

A salon appointment turned into a criminal investigation after Jessica Odom, a woman who simply wanted her hair braided, accused the owner of Mama Gifted Hands based in Birmingham, Alabama, and two stylists of kidnapping and assaulting her during a dispute over the price of her braids. Police later arrested the salon owner and both stylists after a now-viral video showed them grabbing Odom’s braids and blocking her from leaving until she paid an additional $50.

According to Atlanta Black Star, the trouble began when she booked a same-day appointment for boho knotless braids and confirmed via text that the starting price was $200. She said the owner explained the cost might increase depending on length, but at no point did she request or agree to additional human hair. Odom told viewers on TikTok that she arrived to friendly customer service—only for the situation to unravel once she paid the $200 in cash.

Odom recorded what happened next: the owner refused to let her walk out, insisting the real price was $250 because human hair had been added without her request. The viral video shows the owner and a stylist gripping Odom’s newly installed braids, physically preventing her from reaching the door. Odom said she was told she would not be allowed to leave unless she paid the extra fee.

Odom recalled that when she attempted to exit, she was pushed back inside the salon, and at one point, her natural hair was ripped out. She said the owner then “negotiated” the surcharge down to $30, warning that if Odom refused to pay, the stylists would cut the human hair out of her braids. Odom reported feeling terrified as she was allegedly held inside the salon for nearly 40 minutes.

When Birmingham police arrived, the salon owner accused Odom of assault. However, officers reviewed the surveillance footage and found no evidence supporting the owner’s claims. Instead, authorities arrested 32-year-old Aissatou Camara, 30-year-old Julia Ondo, and 45-year-old Gwadys Audrey Nzinga Koumba on Nov. 21. All three were charged with first-degree kidnapping and third-degree assault. Jail records show Camara and Ondo remain behind bars on a $500 bond.

This shocking case follows a similar viral incident in Louisiana earlier this year, where a Baton Rouge stylist tried to cut off an 11-year-old girl’s braids after her mother refused to pay a late fee—an act that ultimately cost the stylist her job. Together, the cases have ignited national debate about salon professionalism, customer safety, and the growing number of disputes tied to braided-style pricing.

LUSAKA – President Hakainde Hichilema has formally congratulated the newly minted League of African Ambassadors (LAA) for its successful launch on 14 October 2025 in Lusaka, describing the initiative as “timely and commendable.”

In a letter addressed to LAA President Ominyi Nwanne, immediate former Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Zambia, President Hichilema praised the league’s vision and singled out Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Mulambo Haimbe for ably representing him throughout the preparatory meetings and on launch day. “The Minister did a commendable job,” the President wrote.

H.E Hichilema’s said: “I wish to extend my congratulations to you and distinguished members of the LAA for the launch via my representative Hon. Mulambo Haimbe on 14 October 2025. The establishment of the league is timely and commendable. It is important for diplomacy and trade. More important is your wealth of diplomatic experience and statesmanship. I am confident the LAA will enhance greater collaboration among African nations and beyond. Please accept my sincere congratulations to yourself and league membership.”

Responding, Ambassador Nwanne said: “The President’s acknowledgement means a lot to the LAA in general and myself in particular. We must not take it for granted.” He further called for a continent wide membership registration drive to strengthen the league’s reach from among Ambassadors.

The LAA is a continental, non partisan, non political, issue based body bringing together serving and retired Ambassadors. Similar associations exist in Europe and the United States, where they are known as “Ambassadors’ Clubs” or “Diplomatic Leagues,” fostering dialogue and trade linkages.

Ambassador Lazarous Kapambwe underscored the importance of such a body: “Ambassadors, whether serving or retired, remain custodians of statecraft. This league is not a Zambian organisation but a continental one, designed to harness collective wisdom for Africa’s progress.”

The Lusaka launch was made possible by a dedicated planning committee comprising senior Ambassadors that served Zambia in recent past years, whose tireless efforts ensured the event’s success.

They include Ambassador Lucy Mungoma, Anthony Mukwita, Sylvester Mundanda, Anderson Chibwa, Bobby Samakayi and Dr Solomon Jere including lawyer Joel Joseph.

H.E Nwanne, commended for his steady leadership, reiterated gratitude: “We thank President Hichilema once again for his unwavering support, its humbling.

With SADC and COMESA as examples of regional cooperation, the LAA will complement these frameworks by deepening Ambassadorial collaboration.

Coup:Former Nigerian President  Goodluck Jonathan trapped in Guinea Bissau

Former President Goodluck Jonathan is currently trapped in Guinea Bissau after a group of military officers announced they have taken over the government.

Jonathan alongside hundreds of foreign observers are unable to leave the country where elections took place and results were about to be officially declared.

According to Daily Trust, hundreds of foreign observers who raced to the airport in a bid to leave the country after the coup was announced are currently stranded.

The coup leaders claimed “total control” of the country on Wednesday, a day after two leading candidates – President Umaro Sissoco Embalo and Fernando Dias – each declared victory in the country’s election even though the electoral commission had not released official results.

Calling themselves the “High Military Command for the Restoration of Order”, the officers ordered the immediate suspension of the electoral process “until further notice”

They also ordered the closure of all land, air and sea borders and an overnight curfew.

“I have been deposed,” Embalo told French broadcaster France24 in a phone call, adding that he was “currently at the general staff headquarters”

The head of the main opposition PAIGC party, Domingos Simoes Pereira, has also been arrested, Haque said.

“As well, we’ve just heard that the military is trying to cut off the Internet. There’s a curfew in place.”

He added that the army officer leading the coup, Denis N’Canha, served as the head of the presidential guard.

“The man supposed to protect the president himself has put the president under arrest,” Haque said.

Jonathan, who is head of the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) observer group, had taken to social media to announce his arrival.

“We arrived in Bissau this evening as members of the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) Election Mission ahead of Guinea Bissau’s presidential and parliamentary polls scheduled for November 23, 2025. We wish the people of Guinea Bissau a peaceful, inclusive and transparent elections,” he wrote.

Two days later, he posted another update: “OUT ON ELECTION DAY IN BISSAU. Members of the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) Election Mission today conducted visits to some polling stations in Bissau as voting commenced in Guinea-Bissau’s 2025 presidential and parliamentary elections. WAEF extends warm regards to the people and authorities of Guinea-Bissau and wishes for a smooth voting process and a peaceful, stable post-election period that strengthens unity and democratic governance,” he wrote.

Vin Diesel ends feud with Dwayne Johnson

Award-winning actors Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson had a public feud that started in 2016 and eventually ended in 2023.

It’s also quite clear that the pair’s relationship after they ended their feud remains healthy, as Diesel, in a lengthy Instagram post on Tuesday, praised Johnson for his role in The Smashing Machine movie.

Released in October 2025, the biographical sports drama film sees Johnson, 53, portraying mixed martial artist and UFC legend Mark Kerr, who is friends with Diesel, 58.

“One of the greatest gifts in life isn’t something you can buy, it’s the relationships forged along the way,” Diesel wrote. “I wanted to take a moment to talk about ‘The Smashing Machine.’ What most people don’t realize is that Mark Kerr was one of the first friends I made when I moved from New York to California. We hit it off immediately, and the reason is simple: he is genuinely one of the kindest, most warm-hearted people you will ever meet.”

The Fast & Furious star also revealed that Kerr, 56, actually trained him for the first XXX movie, adding that the UFC legend, in a “beautiful way,” was “there at the beginning of my action career. That’s the kind of friend he’s been from day one.”

Diesel then went ahead to shower praises on Johnson, with whom he has co-starred in multiple Fast & Furious movies. “And let me celebrate Dwayne,” he wrote.

“People don’t understand what it takes to uphold a global perception every single day. I remember asking our global family who they’d love to see me work with, and a woman named Jan left a comment saying her dream was for me to collaborate with Dwayne,” Diesel added.

“What followed became one of the most dynamic pairings in cinema, two strong personalities who pushed each other and created something unforgettable. When he stepped into Hobbs, he did it with full commitment and left an indelible mark on Universal’s character hall of fame.”

Diesel additionally touched on Kerr’s UFC Hall of Fame induction. “Watching Mark Kerr get inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame because his story was finally told was such a proud moment,” he said.

“This is a man who would often tell me about the kids he was teaching to wrestle, to fight, to take ownership of their lives usually for no money at all.”

He concluded: “The fact that Mark Coleman was included in the film was such a treat, and Bas Rutten’s performance was stellar. Mark Kerr is so deserving of this moment… and Dwayne really did it… He brought us back in time and shined doing it. Proud of you both.”

Diesel and Johnson’s public feud stemmed from the pair having creative differences over the Fast & Furious franchise. The feud started after Johnson took to Instagram in 2016 to condemn some of the stars who featured in the movie alongside him, though he did not mention their names. Johnson later deleted that post.

In June 2023, Johnson ultimately announced that they had resolved their differences.

Wicknell Chivayo Donates US$1 Million To His Old Primary School After Minister’s Declaration

Zimbabwe Businessman Wicknell Chivayo Donates US$1 Million To His Old Primary School

Flamboyant businessman Wicknell Chivayo has announced a staggering US$1 million (approx. R18 million) donation to his former primary school, just one day after the Education Minister clarified that schools are free to accept donations from politically exposed persons. Chivayo took to social media to announce a massive financial injection for Dudley Hall Primary School in Norton, attaching a series of strict, specific conditions to the gift.

The announcement came hot on the heels of a statement from Primary and Secondary Education Minister Torerayi Moyo. On 25 November 2025, Minister Moyo had stated that the Ministry does not explicitly prohibit donations from politically exposed persons, emphasising that all contributions must be transparent and follow due process. Chivayo, in his post dated 26 November 2025, directly referenced a news article about the minister’s declaration, suggesting it prompted his immediate and generous response.

The Million-Dollar Conditions
In his characteristically detailed post, Chivayo laid out a non-negotiable set of requirements for the school to access the US$1 million. The funds are designated for the construction of two new dormitories, but the donor has personally dictated their naming.

He demanded that the dormitories be named “EMMERSON DAMBUDZO HOUSE” and “AUXILLIA HOUSE,” in a clear reference to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the First Lady, Auxillia Mnangagwa. Chivayo criticised the school’s existing dormitory names, which he recalled from his own time as a pupil, stating:

“We should be discouraged from using such meaningless names that have no bearing on our important history and revolutionary values.”

Furthermore, Chivayo recommended specific contractors for each dormitory: Radx Construction for “Auxillia House” and Frost and Tulip Construction for “Emmerson House.” He also stipulated that the architectural work be handled by Studio 5 Architects.

The businessman outlined a complex financial arrangement, insisting that the million US dollars be held in a trust account managed by one of three named law firms, which would be paid an additional US$50,000 (approx. R900,000) for their services.

A Bus And A Blessing
Adding to the earlier donation of a school bus, Chivayo provided intricate collection details for the vehicle. He instructed that the bus be collected on Sunday, 14 December, from the Johane Masowe Gwanzura branch, specifying that those collecting it must wear specific white and khaki attire. He concluded his post with a religious quote, writing:

“COURAGE BROTHER DO NOT STUMBLE, THOUGH THY PATH BE DARK AT NIGHT, THERE’S A STAR TO GUIDE THE HUMBLE…TRUST IN GOD AND DO THE RIGHT…AMEN…”

The school’s initial letter, written on 16 September 2025, had requested assistance for a hostel and a bus. Minister Moyo, in his statement, confirmed that the school approached Chivayo because he is an old student, asserting there was “nothing amiss about that.” He maintained that any donation from any individual is subject to the same scrutiny and must align with the Ministry’s educational objectives. The Minister was also quoted saying:

“The perception of favouritism is regrettable and not reflective of our policy intent.”

Pope Leo warns Catholics against treating Mary as equal to Jesus

Pope Leo warns Catholics against treating Mary as equal to Jesus
POPE Leo XIV has warned Catholics against referring to the Virgin Mary as co-redeemer stating that only Jesus Christ saved the world and not Mary.

In a new document, called Mother of the Faithful People of God approved by the Pope and released by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, Pope Leo XIV stated that using titles like Co-Redemptrix and Mediatrix for Mary can confuse people about who really brought salvation.

According to the Pope, while Mary played a special role as the mother of Jesus, her part in God’s plan was one of cooperation and not equality.
“It is always wrong to use the title ‘Co-Redemptrix’ to describe Mary’s cooperation,” the document says. “This risks overshadowing Christ’s unique role in salvation.”

https://youtu.be/YmB0xp6kLVg?si=PsgwaR8kA2cnhUCi

The Pope who has a degree in Mathematics calculated that Jesus alone is the Mediator between God and humanity.
Mary’s prayers and intercession should always be seen as taking place through Christ, with Christ and in Christ.
The decree advises the faithful to understand Mary’s role correctly, as the mother who helps lead people to Jesus, not someone who shares in His work of redemption.

The clarification comes at a time when some groups have been exaggerating devotion to Mary, especially on social media, where people claim to see apparitions or weeping statues.

The Vatican said it wanted to guide believers back to proper understanding that Mary is honoured, but Christ alone is the Saviour.

Single Mother St@bs Own 3-Year-Old Daughter To Marry New Boyfriend In Shocking Incident

A mother has been arrested after she allegedly stabbed her three-year-old daughter to death, with police claiming she committed the horrific act so she could marry a new boyfriend who did not want her to have a child.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the arrest of Geviza Fadzai, aged 35, in connection with the murder which occurred on Tuesday, 25 November 2025, at Village 2, Fair Range, in the Mkwasine area. According to the official police report, the suspect allegedly stabbed her young daughter in the neck with a knife.

A Chilling Deception Unravels
Following the attack, Geviza Fadzai did not immediately alert authorities to her own actions. Instead, she allegedly embarked on a series of deceptive stories. The Zimbabwe Republic Police stated that she first informed a neighbour that the child had been attacked by four unknown assailants. She then proceeded to the village head, where she presented a different account, claiming her daughter had died from natural causes.

The truth only began to emerge during burial preparations. A deep cut was observed on the little girl’s neck, prompting someone to make a formal report at the ZRP Mkwasine police station. This discovery launched a police investigation that would quickly unravel the mother’s stories.

The Alleged Motive For A Mother’s Unthinkable Act
Police investigations subsequently established a shocking alleged motive. According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the suspect “allegedly killed her daughter so that she could marry her new boyfriend, who was unwilling to marry her while she had a child.” The victim’s body was taken to Chiredzi General Hospital for a post-mortem examination to formally determine the cause of death.

A Disturbing Pattern Of Violence Emerges
Tragically, this incident is not isolated. Just days before, on Thursday, 20 November 2025, a similarly horrifying event was reported by The Manica Post in the Hobhouse suburb. In that case, Netsai Chikuni, aged 39, was arrested for allegedly fatally stabbing her three-year-old biological son, Ngonidzashe Njerera, multiple times in the head and neck.

According to Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, the attack occurred after Chikuni discovered her brother’s house was occupied by tenants in his absence. Witnesses reported that during the incident, Chikuni was heard shouting at her child, with one tenant recalling she said, ‘Idya chingwa ukuda kundiurayisa’ (‘Eat your bread, you want to kill me’).

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka was quoted in The Manica Post, stating:

“Police attended the scene and observed that Ngonidzashe had several stabbing wounds on the head and neck. There was blood on the floor and two blood-stained kitchen knives beside his body. Chikuni was asleep besides Ngonidzashe bleeding on the hands and legs from self-inflicted cuts.”

Airline tycoon Sir Richard Branson heartbroken as wife d!es

Joan Templeman, the wife of British billionaire Sir Richard Branson, has d!ed aged 80.

The Virgin Records founder and airline tycoon shared the news on his Instagram page, writing that he was “heartbroken” to announce that Ms Templeman, his partner of almost 50 years, had d!ed.

“She was the most wonderful mum and grandmum our kids and grandkids could have ever wished for,” Sir Richard, 75, wrote. “She was my best friend, my rock, my guiding light, my world. Love you forever, Joan.”

Ms Templeman was not publicly known to be ill, and the post did not specify a cause of de@th.

Ms Templeman was a down-to-earth Scottish woman who preferred to stay out of the spotlight. She was frequently credited by Sir Richard as a stabilising force on his career, providing a counter-balance to his extravagant personality.

Ms Templeman worked as a stay-at-home mum and later turned her focus to philanthropy. In particular, she supported a number of premature birth charities after her daughter Clare d!ed at just four days old, having been born three months premature.

In 2013, she and her husband co-signed Bill Gates’s and Warren Buffet’s Giving Pledge, a promise to donate the majority of their wealth to charity in their lifetime. Having lost homes on three separate occasions — including a sinking houseboat early in their relationship, and a lightning strike on their holiday home in 2011 — the couple wrote in their pledge letter that they had realised material “stuff” did not really matter.

“Even the loss of photo albums and notebooks were of little consequence,” Sir Richard wrote on the couple’s behalf. “Family, friends, good health and the satisfaction that comes from making a positive difference are what really matters.”

Court issues arrest warrant for Miss Universe beauty pageant Co-owner over alleged $930,000 fraud

0

A Thai court has issued an arrest warrant for Anne Jakapong Jakrajutatip, the media mogul co-owner of the Miss Universe beauty pageant, over alleged fraud amounting to $930,000. The warrant follows a streak of scandal that has hit the contest, including a host’s tantrum and allegations of sexism during the most recent event.

The fresh outrage against Anne Jakapong Jakrajutatip, whose JKN Global Group co-owns the contest, came just after Miss Mexico was crowned winner last week. The South Bangkok Civil Court issued the warrant on Tuesday after a plastic surgeon accused her of fraud and concealing information when persuading him to invest in JKN in 2023.

A court statement shared on Wednesday indicated: “The defendant invited (the plaintiff) to invest knowing her inability to return the money within the appointed time.” A verdict in the 30 million baht ($930,000) case was scheduled for Tuesday, but Jakapong failed to appear in court. The warrant was issued because her behavior “could be interpreted as fleeing.”

The court has rescheduled the verdict to December 26, though some local media reported Jakapong had already left for Mexico amid rumors of mounting financial woes. Earlier this year, the Miss Universe Organization stated that “these legal proceedings are entirely separate” from its operations.

The Miss Universe 2025 contest had already wrapped up in Bangkok on Friday after drama stirred by a public bust-up between a male competition host and the eventual winner, Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch.

In a livestreamed event, the host singled her out for allegedly failing to post promotional content and reportedly called her “dumb,” prompting Bosch to lead a walk-out. He subsequently apologized after a news conference; however, his behavior drew the attention of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, who praised her compatriot for speaking out.

The Miss Universe contest was formerly owned by US President Donald Trump. Jakapong’s JKN Global Group bought it for $20 million in 2022, but later sold half its stake to Mexican firm Legacy Holding Group USA for $16 million.

In 2024, the Stock Exchange of Thailand delisted JKN shares after the company failed to submit financial statements and was found to have falsified them.

Oil is at the heart of US military pressure campaign on Venezuela – Colombian President

As US military activity ramps up in the Caribbean and the Pacific, Colombian President Gustavo Petro has alleged that the Trump administration’s pressure campaign on Venezuela is primarily about accessing the South American country’s vast oil reserves rather than fighting drug trafficking.

“(Oil) is at the heart of the matter,” Gustavo Petro told CNN in an exclusive interview, pointing out that Venezuela possesses what are considered the largest oil reserves in the world.

“So, that’s a negotiation about oil. I believe that is (US President Donald) Trump’s logic. He’s not thinking about the democratization of Venezuela, let alone the narco-trafficking,” he continued. Petro added that Venezuela is not considered a major drug producer and that only a relatively small portion of the global drug trade flows through the country.

Petro has been at odds with Trump since he returned to the White House. The Colombian leader has harshly criticized the Trump administration’s immigration policies, its support for Israel, and its military activity around Latin America. On Tuesday, he accused the US of trying to impose its will on its neighbors, comparing its actions to imperialism.

“The United States cannot be considered an empire, but one of the nations among others,” the president said.

When asked if he had a message for the American people, Petro referenced the oath given to US special forces: “Your function, as they say in the oaths, is to fight against oppression. I repeated that on the streets in the United States, and it also cost me,” Petro said.

He appeared to be referring to the US State Department revoking his visa in September after he publicly called on American soldiers to disobey Trump and “not to point their rifles at humanity.”

This is one of many actions the Trump administration has taken against the Colombian leader in recent months. In October, the US Treasury sanctioned Petro, accusing him of playing a “role in the global illicit drug trade,” a claim the Colombian leader has rejected.

The sanctions were imposed days after Trump said he would halt all US payments and subsidies to Colombia, claiming Petro “does nothing to stop” the production of drugs in his country.

Petro defended his administration’s efforts, saying that his government had seized more cocaine than any other in history. “So much so that in recent years, I have managed to ensure that the growth in crops, which is stagnating, is far surpassed by the growth in seizures,” he said.

When asked why Trump hadn’t acknowledged this, Petro said: “Because of pride. Because he thinks I’m a subversive thug, a terrorist, and things like that, simply because I was a member of the M-19,” a Colombian guerrilla movement active in the 1970s and 1980s.

Petro also suggested that the US is comparing him to Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro. His comments came a day after the US designated the Cartel de los Soles, an alleged drug trafficking group that the US has claimed Maduro leads, as a foreign terrorist organization. Venezuela has denied the claims.

While Maduro has a problem with democracy, Petro said he is not convinced about the Venezuelan president’s drug trafficking links. “The problem of Maduro is called democracy … the lack of democracy,” Petro told CNN, adding that “no Colombian investigation … has shown us a relationship between Colombian drug trafficking and Maduro.”

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Venezuela is not a cocaine-producing country. Of the 3,700 tons of coca produced worldwide, more than 2,500 tons come from Colombia, and Venezuela does not appear on production maps.

Investigators from the US Drug Enforcement Agency reached similar conclusions, noting in their annual report published in March that 84% of the cocaine seized in the US comes from Colombia.

Despite recent tensions at the top, US-Colombia relations remain intact. The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, has made it clear that the administration’s issues are with Petro, not the institutions in Colombia.

“Our relationships with the people of Colombia, the economic sector of Colombia, the majority of people in politics in Colombia, and their institutions, in particular their defense institutions, are strong and enduring, and they’re going to be strong and enduring long after this individual is no longer the president there,” Rubio previously said.

Pope Leo XIV has warned young people not to rely on AI to do their homework

Pope Leo XIV has warned young people not to rely on AI to do their homework

During a livestream from the Vatican to the National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis, which has roughly 15,000 youths in attendance, the Pope described AI as “one of the defining features of our time” but insisted that responsible use should promote personal growth, not shortcut learning.

He said: “Don’t ask it to do your homework for you.”

Leo also urged teens to be deliberate with their screen time and use technology in ways that nurture faith, community and authentic friendships. He warned that while AI can process data quickly, it cannot replace real wisdom or the capacity for moral judgement.

His remarks reflect a broader concern from the Vatican about the impact of AI on the development of young people. In a previous message to a Vatican AI ethics conference, he emphasised that access to data is not the same as accurate intelligence. That youth must not let AI stunt their growth or compromise their dignity.

Zim pastor and son sentenced to life imprisonment for chopping off man’s hands over alleged theft

A Zimbabwean pastor and his son have been sentenced to life imprisonment for the brutal assault and amputation of a young man’s hands after accusing him of stealing batteries and other items from their church in South Africa.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in a statement on Tuesday, November 26, 2025 said the Emalahleni Regional Court in Mpumalanga convicted pastor Solomon Mahlangu and his son Enock Mahlangu of attempted m8rder and kidnapping, while the daughter-in-law, Poppy Lethnes Mhlanga, was convicted of kidnapping.

On 27 March 2024, the victim was taking a shortcut through the church premises on Kroomdraai Road towards Extension 16 in Vosman when he was confronted by Enock and the other accused.

Solomon and Enock assaulted the victim, dragged him from a vehicle, and brutally chopped off his hands with a panga. The accused abandoned him at the scene while he bled and pleaded for help.

A passerby found the victim and rushed him to receive urgent medical attention. Following police investigations, the accused were arrested and later released on bail under strict conditions.

During the trial, all three accused pleaded not guilty and elected to remain silent.

The State, represented by Prosecutor Francois Brandt, led credible and compelling evidence, including the victim’s detailed testimony of the horrific attack.

The court also admitted a photo album showing the scene where the severed hands were found. Although the accused testified, the court found their versions to be bare denials and rejected them as improbable.

The victim’s testimony was accepted as truthful and reliable. Prosecutor Brandt argued for the imposition of harsh sentences to send a strong message that violent crimes will not be tolerated.

In sentencing, the court considered the role each accused played in the commission of the offences.

Solomon Mahlangu and Enock Mahlangu were each sentenced to life imprisonment for attempted murder and three years’ imprisonment for kidnapping, and Poppy Lethnes Mhlanga was sentenced to three years’ direct imprisonment for kidnapping. All three accused were declared unfit to possess firearms.

“The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes these sentences and remains unwavering in its commitment to vigorously pursuing perpetrators of violent crimes, sending a clear and firm message to would-be offenders,” the statement added.

Neymar’s family takes over Brazilian football icon Pelé’s brand in $18-million deal

The global brand of Brazilian football icon Pelé has been acquired by the family of another of the country’s biggest stars, Neymar Jr, following a purchase by NR Sports, the company owned by Neymar Santos Sr.

Neymar Sr announced the acquisition on Tuesday, November 25 at the Pelé Museum in Santos, the coastal city that became synonymous with the late football legend’s career.

“We are proud to reach this milestone,” he said, noting that Pelé’s name remains “a very strong brand” with immense global value. “We want to enhance its identity and bring it into the present.”

https://youtu.be/WzPQGSjWtNM?si=fbzx7rgHbSkWC5Lc

Although confidentiality agreements prevented disclosure of the full terms, Brazilian media reported that the deal was worth around USD 18 million. The rights were previously held by U.S.-based company Sport 10.

Pelé, widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers in history—won three World Cups for Brazil in 1958, 1962, and 1970. Born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, he died in December 2022, but his legacy continues to command worldwide reverence.

His daughter, Flavia, attended the ceremony marking the transfer of the brand rights. “There are no words to describe the emotion of bringing back a brand that is the soul, humanity, and love. It’s priceless… as his daughter, I feel honoured and happy,” she said.

NR Sports described the acquisition as the “repatriation” of “one of the greatest symbols in the history of global sport,” adding that the move represents a major step toward preserving and expanding Pelé’s legacy for future generations.

American pop star Katy Perry drags disabled veteran to court, demands almost $5m

American pop star Katy Perry is not slowing down in her long-running court fight with disabled veteran and 1-800-Flowers founder, Carl Westcott, over the $15 million Montecito mansion she bought from him more than five years ago.

The drama started in 2020 when Kate Perry purchased the eight-bedroom, 11-bath luxury home. But just days after signing the contract, Westcott attempted to pull out, claiming he had been heavily medicated after back surgery and wasn’t mentally stable enough to agree to such a major sale.

That single claim sparked years of legal war.

In May 2024, a judge ruled that Westcott was mentally capable when he sold the house and presented “no persuasive evidence” to prove he lacked the capacity to understand the agreement.

Now, new court filings from November 21 show Kate Perry is asking the court to order Westcott to pay $4,718,698.95. She says she lost millions in rental income and also spent heavily on repairs she claims became necessary due to the long legal battle.

According to her legal team, the amount she’s demanding includes what she believes the property could have earned in rent and what she reportedly spent fixing the home. They also subtracted an amount they say Westcott lost during the back-and-forth, bringing her final claim to $4.7 million.

But Westcott’s side is firing back, insisting that Kate Perry is the one who still owes money. His lawyers say Perry only paid $9 million out of the original $15 million purchase price, leaving a balance of $6 million. They say they’re willing to deduct some of the repair expenses, which would reduce what they claim she owes to $5.74 million.

Kate Perry testified via Zoom in August, telling Westcott’s lawyer that she stands to lose financially if the court doesn’t rule in her favor. She maintained that she’s only fighting for what she called “justice.”

The high-profile court battle has kept Montecito residents watching closely, especially with the area being home to big names like Oprah Winfrey and Meghan Markle.

Meanwhile, Kate Perry has also been in the headlines recently after being romantically linked to former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, following her breakup with actor Orlando Bloom.

US President Donald Trump comes Up with new name for the Republican Party

US President, Donald Trump posed an idea to his Truth Social followers on Wednesday, November 26, about renaming his movement and fan base. Credited with creating the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement, the GOP leader suggested a new name for his supporters on his social media platform.

“There is a new word for a TRUMP REPUBLICAN, which is almost everyone (GREAT POLICY IS THE KEY!). It is, TEPUBLICAN??? Or, TPUBLICAN???”, Trump wrote on Wednesday.

His suggestion elicited mixed responses from his followers. While some embraced the name or offered similar suggestions, others took offense to the idea.

“Whatever the word is, that’s exactly what I am!,” one Truth Social user wrote. Another proudly declared, “I am a Trumplican. NOT a Republican.” A third fan added, “Trumplican is much better and accurate. Trump took over Republican so his name should be the foundation.”

Many of his supporters replied with different names to rebrand his follower base. One user suggested, “I like the term MAGAcans better.” Another added, “The Donald J. Trump Republican Party.” Some fans suggested a broader focus: “I like The ‘America First’ party. It’s time to end this divide and conquer right vs left mentality. We are all Americans,” one penned, while a fourth similarly added, “How about Americans!”.

The suggestion comes amid growing infighting within the party, particularly following the Congressional vote to release the Epstein Files.

This bipartisan effort for transparency led to a public falling out between Trump and one of his longtime supporters, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who announced she would be resigning in January.

Despite some support, there were also Truth Social users outraged by Trump’s suggestion of rebranding the GOP party.

“I owe my allegiance to NO President or NO man,” one user declared. Others voiced strong opposition: “PLEASE JUST QUIT, Americans are tired of winning, we can’t afford it anymore. Groceries are now luxuries, insurance is unaffordable, the cost of living has surpassed the means of many American families,” one user cried, calling the administration a “total disaster.”

A third boldly replied, “The T is for tyranny. F— maga and the felon douche who protects child predators. America first…”.

13-year-old schoolgirl ‘sl!t her mum’s throat’ after she confiscated her phone

A 13-year-old schoolgirl is accused of k!lling her mother after she was banned from using social media.

Svetlana Cheglyakova, 46, confiscated her daughter’s phone after a row about her online obsession, it is alleged.

The girl then slit her mother’s throat and cut her own hands before setting fire to the family’s flat in St Petersburg, Russia, reports quoting law enforcement, claim.

The teen claimed an intruder had broken into their flat, k!lled her mother and left her wounded before setting fire to the flat. But it is claimed the young suspect had played out a sequence she earlier role-played in online games.

Later, under questioning by detectives, she admitted grabbing a knife and stabbing her mother in the neck following bitter arguments about her web browsing.

The child also accused her de@d mother of “not letting her hang out with friends”, and monitoring her every step.

She claimed her mother “constantly bullied her”, and on the night of the alleged crime, the woman saw her daughter awake, “yelled at her, and slapped her,” reported Fontanka.

Her social media included TikTok’s featuring streams from the popular game Roblox, say law enforcement.

“The schoolgirl’s actions do not resemble standard gameplay,” said a report by crime channel 112, citing law enforcement.

Once, her character danced for a long time in a burning room, and on another occasion, carried an injured player in her arms.

The report said she is suspected of “simulating the murd3r of her own mother and the subsequent attempt to cover up the crime”.

The girl was in a one parent family after her mother and father split, according to reports. The child is currently in hospital.

The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case for murd3r. But because she is below the age of criminal responsibility in Russia, it means she cannot face trial over her mother’s de@th.

Singer Mayerly Díaz, 32, has d!ed of a sudden heart attack following a cosmetic surgery

Singer Mayerly Díaz, 32, has d!ed of a sudden heart attack following a cosmetic procedure.

Mother-of-two Díaz suffered a medical emergency. Reports suggest the cardiac arrest may have been linked to severe complications from the cosmetic procedure.

She had recently undergone the procedure at a clinic in Bogotá, Colombia, in the early hours of Saturday, Nov. 22.

Mayerly, whose music spanned both pop and local folk genres, d!ed while being treated at a hospital in Facatativá after complications arose.

She was originally from La Sierra, in the Quipile municipality, and leaves behind two children, aged 11 and 13.

Singer Mayerly Diaz, 32, d!es after suffering heart attack after cosmetic surgery

Dubbed locally “The Voice of Quipile”, her musical journey began at just 14. Her rendition of No supiste perder – You Didn’t Know How to Lose – has 58,000 views on YouTube. Her music video for Con tus chiros a otra parte – Take Your Cash Somewhere Else – was released only last week.

Her manager and close friend, Néstor, said: “Her voice and passion for music represented all our people. We will remember her for her humility and the joy she brought in every song.”

The specific cosmetic procedure she underwent has not been widely disclosed. The news of her de@th has been shared by local media, El Tiempo, who claim there will be an “immediate and rigorous investigation” into her de@th.

Mayerly’s cousin, Leidy Díaz, took to social media, issuing a heartfelt tribute, saying: “I still can’t believe it, my dear cousin. We grew up together, we fought together since we were little. You’ve left my heart in a thousand pieces, you’ve taken my soul with you, I will love you forever and as I always told you.

“I was so proud of you.’ I will love you forever.”

Meanwhile, one friend said: “Great friend and colleague, we’re going to miss you. It’s not a goodbye, it’s see you soon. God have you in his holy glory. We carry you in the heart with respect and admiration.”

The Mayor’s Office of Quipile also released a statement, saying: “We deeply regret the passing of Mayerly Díaz. The administration led by Mayor Efraín Medina Valero expresses its most sincere condolences and solidarity to her family, friends, and loved ones.

“In these moments of sorrow, we offer our prayers to God for her eternal rest and send a message of hope and strength. May she rest in peace.”

An organisation Mayerly had a close working relationship with said: “A deep sadness grips the municipality of Quipile and the Cundinamarca region following the untimely passing of regional popular music singer Mayerly Díaz, known as the voice of Quipile, who d!ed at the age of 32 in the early hours of Saturday, November 22.”

Fans have also taken to social media to pay tribute.

Archbishop Alick Banda: The Priest at the Centre of Zambia’s Political Firestorm

🇿🇲 POWER FIGURES | Archbishop Alick Banda: The Priest at the Centre of Zambia’s Political Firestorm

Archbishop Alick Banda has stepped into Zambia’s constitutional clash with the authority of a senior cleric and the aggression of a hardened political operator. His warnings of “strife, blood bath, and destruction of innocent lives” have electrified national debate. To some he is a prophetic voice confronting state excess. To others he is a partisan actor in holy robes, prosecuting old battles on behalf of a defeated political elite.

As tensions rise, Banda now stands as one of the most polarising figures in the country.

Born in 1963 in Mufulira, trained in Zambian seminaries and armed with a PhD in Canon Law from Germany, Banda’s ascent through the Catholic hierarchy has been disciplined and deliberate. He served in Ndola after his 1994 ordination, rose to Bishop of Solwezi in 2007, Bishop of Ndola in 2009, and Archbishop of Lusaka in 2018.

He holds one of the most influential pulpits in the nation and commands a constituency that spans parishes, seminaries and national Catholic institutions.

Inside the Church, he is regarded as a strict canon lawyer with a reputation for rigid administration. His homilies often cut through national issues such as corruption, poverty and truth-telling. His defenders portray him as a courageous cleric who refuses to dilute the Gospel in the face of political power.

They say he calls out injustice without fear and challenges leaders of every stripe.

But the image outside the Church is more contested. Observers note that Banda’s public tone since 2020 mirrors political narratives aligned with the Patriotic Front. His cordial ties with former president Edgar Lungu became visible. His name surfaced frequently in partisan disputes. In 2023 an audio attributed to the UPND Secretary-General referred to him as “the Lucifer of Zambia,” a comment that exposed the depth of political suspicion surrounding him.

A legal complaint followed and the episode cemented his place as a cleric whose homilies carry direct political weight.

The most damaging scandal was the Toyota Hilux registered as ALF 7734. In 2024 the Drug Enforcement Commission seized the vehicle, citing irregular acquisition linked to the PF era. Media reports suggested it began as a Zambia Revenue Authority vehicle before being transferred to him. He was never charged. His allies branded the action political persecution. Governance activists said it demonstrated unhealthy intimacy between a bishop and a ruling party that had normalised graft.

Laura Miti called it a “sobering lesson” on the fragility of moral authority when public gifts blur ethical boundaries.

Then came the funeral dispute of former president Edgar Lungu in June 2025. Banda travelled to Johannesburg to lead the burial service planned by the Lungu family, outside state oversight. Hours before the burial, the Pretoria High Court halted the ceremony and later ordered the body repatriated to Zambia. Footage of Banda arriving at the Johannesburg venue beside senior PF figures sent shockwaves across the political spectrum. Supporters saw pastoral duty.

Critics saw a cleric inserting himself into a constitutional confrontation between the State and the Lungu household at the height of national tension.

Now, with Bill 7 locked in a national stalemate, Banda’s voice has become a trigger point. His recent homilies accuse government of “degeneration of democracy.” The Archdiocese of Lusaka’s latest statement calls Bill 7 “reckless political experimentation” and warns that “Zambia’s stability and wellbeing is too important for such dangerous proposals.”

The statement urges Catholics to join demonstrations “from Freedom Statue to State House,” signalling the most direct clerical mobilisation against a sitting president in recent memory.

The timing is explosive. Oasis Forum has agreed to meet President Hichilema for dialogue on Friday. The President has warned that “the church has become a host of negative talk and hatred.” Bishops in Kasama and Mpika have told priests to “fearlessly speak the truth.” The Archdiocese of Lusaka has now reignited confrontation.

The sequence of events places Banda at the epicentre of an escalation with unpredictable consequences.

Archbishop Alick Banda is no longer a background cleric. He is a power broker whose words move crowds, embolden opposition figures and provoke reactions from State House. His supporters call him a moral compass. His critics call him a political actor in a pulpit.

What is clear is that his voice has become one of the most charged instruments in Zambia’s unfolding constitutional hurricane.

Chishimba Kambwili asks God where he got President Hakainde Hichilema from

KAMBWILI GOES FOR HICHILEMA

VOCAL PF presidential candidate Chishimba Kambwili used his first television interview almost a month after leaving prison to launch a scathing attack on President Hakainde Hichilema.

The former Roan constituency lawmaker featured on KBN TV where he said the Head of State’s biggest problem was his propensity to lie.

Despite being a mere nshima-eating mortal, during the interview, Kambwili even demanded that God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth, should explain where he had gotten President Hichilema from.

Until late October, Kambwili had been serving a five-month jail term for hate speech, resulting from the tribal hate he had been vending during the 2021 election campaigns.

While in prison, Kambwili had been said to be hanging onto life by a thread because he was in poor health.

But appearing on TV last evening looking as fit as a fiddle, Kambwili punched holes through President Hichilema’s presidency.

Kambwili said the President was a liar and insincere in most of his dealings.

He claimed that if the head of State invited people to State House, he would never listen to them.

Commenting on the Friday’s meeting between President Hichilema and opponents of the planned constitutional amendment process,  Kambwili said State House had already made up its mind on the matter.

He said several people who had been to State House for consultations were left frustrated because the President allegedly talks at them, instead of hearing their views.

“The problem that my brother has, what he calls dialogue, is not actually dialogue at all. When he invites people to State House that let’s dialogue, instead of listening from them, he goes to lecture them,” Kambwili said.

He argued that true dialogue involves both sides giving and taking, not one side dictating the agenda while the other simply listens.

The outspoken former minister said the situation became more suspicious when Oasis Forum confirmed they had been invited to meet the President on Friday, only for President Hichilema to call for a press conference on Tuesday.

“How do you call people for dialogue when you’ve already decided? What are they going to discuss?” he asked.

Kambwili urged the President to change his approach if he wants meaningful engagement with church groups, civil society and opposition leaders over constitutional

DON’T BRING YOUR MONEY HERE – CATHOLIC CHURCH SLAMS POLITIANS

DON’T BRING YOUR MONEY HERE – CATHOLIC CHURCH SLAMS POLITIANS

The Catholic Diocese of Mpika has taken a bold and uncompromising stance ahead of the 2026 general elections, announcing a complete ban on all political donations to Church institutions within its jurisdiction. The directive is aimed at insulating the Church from the growing attempts by political actors to influence religious spaces during campaign periods.

The announcement follows a sitting of the Diocesan Presbyteral Council held on 28 November 2025, which reaffirmed an earlier resolution by the Diocesan Pastoral Council on 20 November. Church leaders said the decision was necessary to protect the integrity and neutrality of the Church at a time when political activity intensifies across the country.

In its statement, the Diocese declared that no parish, lay association, ministry, choir or Church-related body may accept cash, goods, sponsorships or any form of material support from politicians or their agents. This blanket restriction applies throughout the election season and is meant to prevent the Church from being used for political image-building.

The Diocese also issued a strong warning to political players, emphasizing that politicians and their agents are strictly forbidden from offering donations to the Church within Mpika Diocese during the campaign period. The leadership stressed that the Church must remain a non-partisan moral compass, and not a platform for political branding or influence.

Church leaders said the decision was motivated by the need to safeguard the Church’s “prophetic witness,” insisting that once religious institutions begin accepting political gifts, their ability to speak truth to power becomes compromised. The Diocese further noted that neutrality is essential for maintaining public trust in its pastoral mission.

The statement also urged the Catholic faithful to remain prayerful and vigilant as the nation approaches the 2026 elections. The Diocese encouraged Christians to pray for peaceful, transparent and credible elections anchored on justice, truth and the common good. The leadership reminded the faithful that their primary duty is to uphold Christian values, especially during politically charged periods.

The directive was signed by senior members of the Presbyteral Council, including Fr. Vito Mliyancke, who chairs the Council, along with Fr. Malirwa Lachewe of Mpika, Fr. Justin Chisasa of Chinsali, and Fr. Donald Tashi of Isoka. Their unified endorsement signals a strong collective resolve to protect Church structures from external political influence.

This move by Mpika Diocese comes at a time when concerns about political intrusion into civic and religious institutions are becoming more pronounced. Analysts say the decision reflects a growing desire among faith leaders to preserve the independence of the Church and resist the sway of partisan interests.

Veteran broadcaster Frank Mutubila lectures President Hichilema

Veteran broadcaster Frank Mutubila lectures Hichilema

He writes:

Mr President, I hear you when you say you are hated. I have faced a mixed reaction in my last 55 years in the media, exactly 55 on December 31. In my early days Marta Paynter, a TV columnist, would sometimes write scathing things about my presentation, and I convinced myself she hated me. One day I did the unthinkable.

I called her and complained bitterly, and asked her why she hated me. Calmly she said, “I could never hate you. You are a public figure, and I have on behalf of the public to constructively criticise you, so that you learn and become a better broadcaster.” From that day I developed a thick skin. Today, after 55 years, I am still criticised by some, and praised by others. They do not have to hate or love me as a person. Because I am doing a public job they only have to judge my output. One thing I have developed over the years is self criticism, and self assessment.

Mr President, allow me to say this with respect and clarity. There are many good things your government has done. The economic recovery, the stabilisation, the commitment to social spending even when the coffers were dry, these are achievements that deserve recognition.

No one has given the country a painless path out of the debilitating debt crisis we were in. And as I have pointed out before, your media team has not packaged and communicated these successes with the sharpness they deserve. There is still time, like former politician Katele says, for your successes to be repackaged and strategically communicated to the public.

In case you have forgotten, 59 percent of the electorate voted for you, the highest after the return to multi party democracy. How can all these now hate you.

But there is one thing I must state openly. The constitution is above all of us. It is not about you as a person, and it cannot be centred on your office. Your office is a creature of the constitution, not the other way round. Citizens have every right to express concern about Bill 7 without it being interpreted as a personal attack. We the people give ourselves the constitution. That is what the preamble says.

You said this is the first time citizens are standing up against a constitutional amendment they do not want, but history does not agree. Bill 10 was rejected. President Chiluba’s third term attempt was rejected. Both processes saw citizens stand up and speak out, peacefully. You were part of those who rejected Bill 10. If citizens could oppose Chiluba, and oppose Lungu, why can they not oppose you. What has changed.

And as for 1996, that amendment was a clear example of how a bad process produces a bad constitution. It introduced the parentage clause that targeted President Kaunda. It introduced the simple majority clause that destabilised the early Mwanawasa years. Citizens were so upset that both clauses were later changed. That is exactly where we would be if Bill 7 passed. We would be needing another amendment even before your signature dried on it.

https://youtu.be/p_uX96ZUjhI?si=xO_MDVC3DZlRLayU

Then there is the matter of CDF being fronted to justify delimitation. CDF is less than 5 percent of the national budget. The constitution does not say Kanchibiya and Lusaka Central must receive the same amount. That is a decision made by the government of the day. UPND did not need a constitutional amendment to increase CDF, and it does not need one to allocate it according to need.

Lastly, Mr President, you implied that those who oppose Bill 7 want someone else in office. But by the same logic, one could conclude that you also want the amendment now for political reasons. That is dangerous territory.

Dialogue only works when it is done in good faith. Many citizens were disappointed because the process after your meeting with CSOs did not reflect the promise you made when Bill 7 was deferred. No one would have agreed to a Technical Committee that focused only on clauses of Bill 7, or to a rushed process where even procedure lacked consistency. It felt like being promised a hearty meal of chicken, only to uncover the plate and find chicken feet swimming in watery soup.

So here is the question, a variation of the one you asked the nation. If your successes can be repackaged, if your achievements are real, if your mandate came from 59 percent of the electorate, what exactly is in Bill 7 that the government wants so desperately, and wants now.

What Bill 7 Really Says & What It Does Not Say

 EXPLAINER: What Bill 7 Really Says & What It Does Not Say

Public debate around Bill 7 has intensified across the country. Priests, civil society organisations and opposition figures have argued that the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Bill No. 7 of 2025 is a political manoeuvre designed to entrench the ruling party. Supporters of the process insist that most concerns arise from misinterpretation and speculation rather than the contents of the Bill itself. To understand the issues clearly, it is necessary to turn directly to the Government Gazette, where the Bill is published in full.

The central rumour is that Bill 7 extends the presidential term from five to seven years. This claim is not supported by the text. The presidential term is defined under Article 106(1) and (2). Bill 7 does not amend Article 106, nor does it introduce any clause altering the existing five-year term or the two-term limit. No part of the Bill introduces an extended presidential tenure. The idea of a seven-year term does not appear in the document.

The Bill’s most significant changes appear under Article 47, which is repealed and replaced to introduce a mixed-member proportional representation electoral system. The Gazette states that National Assembly elections shall be conducted through “first-past-the-post electoral system for Members of Parliament contesting for constituency-based seats” and a “proportional representation electoral system for women, youths and persons with disabilities as prescribed.”

This reflects a dual-track system combining direct constituency elections with national proportional allocation.

Related to this shift is the expansion of the National Assembly. Article 68 is amended to provide for “two hundred and eleven Members of Parliament directly elected on the basis of a simple majority vote” together with “not more than twenty women,” “not more than twelve youths,” and “not more than three persons with disabilities” elected under proportional representation.

These seats are to be distributed by the Electoral Commission to political parties “in proportion to the total number of votes obtained by a political party on the proportional representation ballot.”

The Bill also revises nomination requirements. Under the amended Article 52(1), a candidate must file a nomination paper supported by an affidavit confirming constitutional qualifications. Article 52(6) tightens rules around withdrawals and disqualifications. It provides that where a candidate “resigns after having been nominated,” they shall not be eligible to contest the election, and the election proceeds as scheduled.

It further states that where a candidate “has been disqualified by a court, after close of nominations,” that candidate cannot contest the election. If a candidate dies before election day, the Electoral Commission “shall cancel the election, and call for the filing of fresh nominations.”

One of the most debated provisions concerns by-elections. Article 72(8) is repealed and replaced with a clause stating that where a vacancy occurs for an MP, “the political party that sponsored the member who held the seat shall elect another person to replace that member to assume that seat in the National Assembly.”

This marks a departure from competitive by-elections for party-held seats, concentrating the replacement power in political party structures. The Electoral Commission is tasked with setting the date and time for submission of the replacement MP’s name.

A similar structure applies to local government offices. Article 158 provides that if a vacancy occurs in the office of mayor, council chairperson or councillor, the local authority must notify the Electoral Commission within seven days, and “the political party that sponsored the mayor, council chairperson or councillor who held the seat, shall elect another person to replace that mayor, council chairperson or councillor.”

The replacement then assumes the seat for the remainder of the term.

The term of Parliament is addressed under a revised Article 81. The Gazette restates that “the term of Parliament and term of office of a Member of Parliament shall be five years.” Parliament may extend its own life only “when the Republic is at war,” and only “by a simple majority vote of the Members of Parliament,” for “not more than twelve months at a time.”

This provision has been present in Zambia’s constitutional structure for many years. Article 81(3) provides that Parliament shall stand dissolved a few months ahead of general elections.

The Bill introduces a procedure under which the President may dissolve Parliament if it “cannot effectively govern the Republic due to the failure of the National Assembly to objectively and reasonably carry out its legislative function.” In such a case, Article 81(6) requires the President to “inform the public and refer the matter, within seven days” to the Constitutional Court.

The Court must “hear and determine the matter” within seven days. If the Court confirms that Parliament has failed in the manner described, the President must dissolve Parliament. Elections must then be held within ninety days of dissolution.

The Bill also revises qualifications for mayors and council chairpersons. Article 154 requires candidates to be citizens, at least twenty-one years old, registered voters and holders of at least a Grade 12 certificate or its equivalent. The Bill maintains the requirement that mayors and council chairpersons be directly elected, while deputy mayors and deputy council chairpersons are chosen by councillors.

The memorandum to the Bill outlines its objectives, including increasing constituency-based seats, introducing proportional representation to strengthen participation by women, youths and persons with disabilities, revising nomination rules, revising by-elections, harmonising the term of Parliament and councils to a five-year period, removing the two-term limit for office of mayor and council chairperson, revising qualifications for certain offices, and clarifying definitions such as “child,” “adult,” “general election,” “term,” and “constituency-based seat.”

From a technical standpoint, the Bill is an electoral and administrative reform package. It alters parliamentary composition, nomination procedures, party powers over vacancies, and the mechanisms governing the dissolution and prorogation of Parliament. It does not alter the presidential term or introduce a seven-year tenure.

The most significant democratic questions arise from the shift to political-party-controlled replacements and the broader implications of proportional representation within Zambia’s political landscape.

PARLEY ADOPTS MOTION TO REGULATE STATE FUNERALS

PARLEY ADOPTS MOTION TO REGULATE STATE FUNERALS

THE National Assembly has adopted a motion moved by Kanyama UPND MP Monty Chinkuli urging government to regulate the conduct of funerals for sitting and former heads of the Legislature, Executive and Judiciary.

The motion was seconded by Solwezi East UPND MP Alex Katakwe.

In his debate earlier, Chinkuli said the motion was not focused on an individual or a group of individuals, but was a progressive measure to prevent certain issues that may arise if the funerals of the three arms of government were not regulated.

“I thank you, Madam Speaker, for this opportunity given [to] me. Madam Speaker, I cannot put it in a better way than the ministers, the MPs have put it, and I just want to thank all those who have debated for and against.

This motion is not focused on an individual or a group of individuals, but it’s something that we progressively want to look at, running away from certain issues that may arise in the event we don’t regulate the funerals of these three arms of government. Madam Speaker, what has been a challenge to me is the fact that instead of looking at developmental issues, we start going back.

And if you look at the [former president] Kaunda issue, what happened… and the fact that the government has actually chosen a place at Embassy Park where our gallant President should be put to rest. Why should we enforce that with the law or compel that whoever ceases in this position should be buried here? Madam Speaker, with those few remarks, I want to thank you,” said Chinkuli.

In the same vein, Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu said the ministry was in the process of crafting the necessary legislation and making necessary consultations pertaining to the issues of regulating state funerals for the three arms of government.

“Madam Speaker, from the outset, I would like to acknowledge that currently, there is no law in the Republic that regulates the conduct of funerals for sitting and former heads of the Legislature, Executive and the Judiciary.

However, we would like to inform this August House that Cabinet recently approved the introduction of legislation to regulate the conduct of funerals for Heads of State and former Heads of State. Madam Speaker, the Ministry of Justice is in the process of crafting the necessary legislation and we are making necessary consultations pertaining to the same.

It is imperative to indicate that at present the intention is to regulate the conduct of funerals for Heads of State and former Heads of State, with the possibility of extending the law in future so that it covers the heads of the Legislature and Judiciary,” said Mwiimbu.

“As a listening government, Madam Speaker, we have heard the submissions from various members of parliament pertaining to this matter, and also we have heard representations that as we craft the law, we should not forget other constitutional office holders, like ministers and parliamentarians, so that we provide for them.

Madam Speaker, we are aware, as you have rightly indicated, that this law and as the situation obtains in the country, laws do not operate retrospectively. You have guided, and we would like our colleagues on your left to be assured that the intention is not to cover the burial of the immediate former president, who is late. This is a law that will cover future issues of funerals”.

The motion was approved after the debates and a vote.

Caderism wouldn’t exist if HH wasn’t supporting it – Kalaba

By Martin Lubasi Lubasi

Citizens First (CF) president Harry Kalaba has accused President Hakainde Hichilema of supporting caderism.

Speaking on a radio program on Power FM radio station in Kabwe, Kalaba said this is the reason caderism had become rampant in the UPND.

He also took issue with the member of parliament for Bweengwa Michelo Kasauta, saying that the MP had announced that caderism was back, without being reprimanded by the President.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS CAN WAIT UNTIL AFTER 2026 SAYS FR MAPULANGA

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS CAN WAIT UNTIL AFTER 2026 SAYS FR MAPULANGA

Caritas Zambia Director Fr Dr Gabriel Mapulanga said that while there is economic stability being registered in Zambia, they still have a duty to question amendments brought just months before the 2026 elections.

“Opposing Bill 7 does not mean we hate the President. It means we are defending our democracy,” he said.

He noted that the Church challenged Bill 10 under the previous administration and is doing the same with Bill 7 proof of consistency, not hostility.

Fr. Mapulanga also rejected the idea that protests should be banned due to potential counter-marches, saying maintaining order is the responsibility of the police.

He warned against assuming economic success guarantees public approval on constitutional changes, calling this the “validation trap.”

“If the amendments are good, they can wait until after 2026,” Fr Mapulanga said, reminding the nation that democratic disagreement is healthy.
