ANC’s Russia and China ties trigger US push to end AGOA access
US Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) has introduced legislation seeking a sweeping reassessment of Washington’s ties with South Africa.
The US-South Africa Bilateral Relations Review Act of 2025, tabled on September 15, mirrors an earlier House bill but goes further by explicitly calling for Pretoria’s removal from the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), a trade program granting duty-free access to American markets.
The bill directs the US president to conduct a full review of the bilateral relationship within 180 days, examining whether South Africa’s actions undermine American security or foreign policy.
It singles out Pretoria’s growing ties with Russia, China, and Iran, and mandates a classified report naming senior South African government and ANC officials who could face sanctions under the Global Magnitsky Act for alleged corruption and rights abuses.
“This bill holds South Africa accountable and ensures our relationship is serving US national security not undermining it,” Kennedy said, accusing the ANC of “cosying up to Russia and China while making shameful, antisemitic attacks against our ally Israel.”
The legislation cites South Africa’s hosting of a sanctioned Russian vessel in 2022 and its continued engagement with Moscow during the Ukraine war as evidence of its drift from Western partners.
PLEASE PAY ME: Bruce Mwape Claims FAZ Owes Him Over K2 Million
Former Copper Queens Coach Bruce Mwape has revealed FAZ owes him in excess of $84, 000 (K2 million).
Mwape made the revelation in an interview with Crown TV sports journalist Linosi Victoria.
He says he worked for FAZ as Copper Queens head coach for over four years but was later given a two year contract with a monthly salary pegged at $3500.
The Chingola native boosts of a decent record with the Copper Queens having qualified the team to three Africa Cup of Nations, two Olympics tournaments and one World Cup appearance.
Mwape’s record was blighted with sexual allegations which prompted FIFA to separate him from the team and insisted he had no contact at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
FAZ claimed they were investigating the allegations but diplomatically dismissed Mwape following mounting pressure on the sexual allegations, particularly from abroad.
Mwape was replaced by Nora Hauptle whose monthly paycheck is estimated at $10, 000.
He says FAZ paid something (about half) of what he was due to get from the contracless period he served FAZ.
“Bambi abaleisa balebapela ifwe tabatupelapo nangu chimo kwati ine tapaba efyo nachita. (Others who are coming, but as for me, they have not paid anything as if there’s nothing I did for the team,” he said.
“Ukutwala itimu ku World Cup, kuma Olympics twice; Africa Cup ninebo na qualifishe for three times elo ukwisa fumapo fye not even a ngwee. (I qualified the team to the World Cup, twice to the Olympics and three Africa Cup of Nations but I left without a ngwee).”
Asked if he was ever paid part of the funds in his two year contract, Mwape responded, “awe tapampela (no, they never paid anything).”
MALAWI ELECTORAL COMMISSION CONFIRMS ARREST OF RETURNING OFFICER FOLLOWING FAILED SUICIDE ATTEMPT
By: Malawi24
The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has confirmed the arrest of a constituency Returning Officer who survived a suicide attempt during the ongoing vote tallying process following Tuesday’s general elections.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in the capital, Lilongwe, MEC Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja disclosed that the officer was stationed at the Nkhoma Constituency Tally Centre, located just outside the city.
The individual is now in police custody, and the Commission has already appointed a replacement to ensure electoral operations in the constituency continue without further disruption.
Justice Mtalimanja emphasized that the Commission remains committed to a smooth and transparent conclusion of the electoral process, despite the unexpected incident. She also reported that 16 out of 36 local councils had, at the time of the briefing, physically submitted their results to the national tally centre in Lilongwe.
According to the MEC Chairperson, the current focus of the Commission is on receiving and verifying election results, as well as addressing any formal complaints lodged by political stakeholders and observers.
The incident in Nkhoma has raised serious concerns about the intense psychological pressure faced by electoral officials during high-stakes national elections. While no motive for the attempted suicide has been officially confirmed, the situation has drawn public attention to the mental health challenges and operational strains within the electoral administration. #SunFmTvNews
Muluzi urges calm as Malawi awaits election results
Lilongwe, September 20, Mana: United Democratic front ( UDF) presidential candidate Atupele Muluzi has called on all Malawians to remain calm and peaceful as the country is waiting for the election results from Malawi Electoral Commission ( MEC) .
Speaking on Saturday in Lilongwe during press briefing, Muluzi said as a country that follows democracy it is important for Malawians to wait for the outcome from MEC.
“We are all eager waiting for the election results,am however urging everyone to remain calm and peaceful as we await the announcement of the election results”,he said.
Muluzi has further expressed gratitude to the people of Malawi for the enthusiastic turnout at polling stations during the September 16 general elections.
” We thank the people of Malawi for exercising their democratic right to vote, ” he said.
Muluzi stated that, for any irregularities that are suspected to have occurred in some centers they should be addressed to responsible authorities.
He is educated. He is an economist and financial expert. He is a Zambian national resident in the United States.
It is expected, that with his knowledge, education and such open dedication, George must be part of a good stock of advisors, or a rational members of planners or media team, or part of the m23.
But over the years, George has been reduced to a social-media caricature of Praise Singer, he represents and exhibits some of the worst traits and elements of UPND Praise Singers’ profile.
Imagine all the flights he does for UPND, all the battles and wars, all the anger, rants and frustration he expresses when President Hichilema and his team make silly mistakes, abuse public trust, squander political opportunity and fortune, to the extent that he resigned as a member of the UPND when Government passed the draconian cyber laws.
I was sad by the reaction from the UPND over George’s resignations. No one appeared to appreciate the hard-work he had pushed for UPND over the years.
Some criticism was more fierce especially from his fellow praise singers, who sharply criticised his action, doubted his loyalty to the party, with one fool even expressing stupid tribal remarks; “He is from Eastern Province!”
No one among their rank-and-file was man enough to accept that George was right, that the cyber laws were a disservice to our country, rolled back decades of the gains we had made in building Democracy and threatened citizens’s rights and freedoms.
George was right.
But George being George, a few days later, he was back to his self-appointed job-praising President Hichilema, and now with even a more louder and shriek voice, reinforcing the message that; “Hichilema must succeed!, Hichilema must be re-elected”.
Imagine, despite his long-time dedication to the Party and to President Hichilema from 2017, it appears he has never met President Hichilema before!!!
So you can imagine the joy and excitement when he finally met President Hichilema, bumping him into him at ZCAS, his idol, a man he wages relentless battles for, like a boy with a new toy, he has splashed this picture everywhere, excited telling everyone ;”see, see, see!”.
The handlers have not even afforded George an opportunity to meet the President at State House as a reward for his social-media hard work but it had to be a bump-in, in a waiting or holding room at public function.
Typical!
Sadly President Hichilema doesn’t seem to reward people like George. He allows them to look like fools, while expecting them to push the same output
Remember the “Daddy Cholola guy” with his side-kick? Remember those PF MPs that use to sing uninvited praises for Hichilema’s success?
Bali nenuka abantu..
But not George!
George is in a class of other notable praise singers like Hon Kasololo Chisenga and Oliver Sepiso Shalala. They put in so much to defend the deplorable record of government but obtain little or no discernible personal reward!
The rewards and benefits from this government are left to the fat cats.
The fat cats, who put in no work, never defend President Hichilema, appear to reap the biggest financial, social and business benefits such as his very silent Cabinet Ministers.
TAYALI ORDERS FULL REPORT ON LEAKED AUDIO IMPLICATING RTSA DIRECTOR & CEO AMON MWEEMBA
By: Justin Banda
Minister of Transport and Logistics Frank Tayali has requested for full report to verify the authenticity of a leaked audio recording allegedly implicating Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) Chief Executive Officer Amon Mweemba in tribal hiring practices.
In audio, it is alleged that Engineer Mweemba talking to an unknown person that suggesting that the hiring process be altered to incorporate with people from a specific region of the country.
Appearing on the Sun FM TV Breakfast show Mr. Tyali said tha it would be regretable and sad if the audio allegedly implicating Eng. Mweemba is true.
The minister of Transport and logistics stated that that the government agenda is to unite the country and not divide it adding that the one Zambia one nation motto should be at the center of the nation.
He has since urged Zambians to refrain from issuing tribal remarks. #SunFmTvNews
With about a year to go before Zambia’s next elections, Dr Sishuwa Sishuwa has criticised President Hakainde Hichilema’s record, accusing the government of political interference.
Specifically, he accuses the president of secretly puppeteering the main opposition party; stacking the electoral commission against this same opposition; reshaping the courts in his image; and seeing his constitutional changes foiled by the judges he supposedly hand-picked.
By implying the government has seized control of the main opposition party, the Patriotic Front, he forgets that old political rule of thumb: never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.
The collapse of the Patriotic Front (PF) is the result of the natural end to a party that spent more than a decade failing to deliver for the Zambian people. Nor is it the first time the PF has collapsed into in-fighting; it happened after the death of president Michael Sata in 2014.
Zambia needs an organised, credible and focused opposition. But responsibility for this surely cannot fall on the government.
Having suffered years of political repression under the PF, this administration is in the process of replacing the colonial-era Public Order Act with a more tolerant Public Gathering Act. Rather than blocking opposition meetings, as Sishuwa suggests, we are building a more vibrant and inclusive democratic space. Citizens once again feel free to wear party colours in the streets without the fear of political violence which stalked every bus shelter and market stall in the 2010s.
We also reject the insinuation that the government is attempting to undermine the independence of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) by staffing it with party stooges. These allegations are based on conjecture while the professional record of Mrs Zaloumis, a former member of the National Constitutional Conference, and Mr Chipenzi, former chair of the Council of NGOs in Zambia, are plain for all to see.
Sishuwa criticises the ECZ’s attempts to register 3.5 million new voters as a bid to “prepare the public’s mind” for vote manipulation. The more obvious explanation would be trying to enfranchise more of Zambia’s young, growing population.
President Hichilema is accused of trying to stack the lower courts with political appointees. In reality, the three Constitutional Court judges who he sacked in October 2024 were dismissed after the Judicial Complaints Commission found irrefutable evidence of gross misconduct. The JCC’s advice is constitutionally binding, and the president replaced them with highly qualified justices, as is required by law.
The accusations of using the courts to gag opposition figures are equally unfounded. Hate speech, which is frequently tribal in nature, is a genuine problem in a country as diverse as Zambia and can lead to ethnic tensions and even violence if left unchecked. At the same time, the government recognises its role in defending freedom of expression, which is why we repealed the draconian “Defamation of the President Law” in 2022.
Despite facing various charges of hate speech, Socialist Party leader Fred M’membe and Tonse Alliance spokesperson Sean Tembo continue to campaign against the government freely and openly. Ironically, both men have reported government ministers to the police for alleged tribalist comments, suggesting that they do not entirely reject the premise for their arrests.
Finally, Sishuwa’s critique of the president’s attempts at constitutional reforms under Bill 7 are riddled with inaccuracies and rumour. Rather than a naked attempt at gerrymandering, the redrawing of constituency boundaries is a well overdue update to the last delimitation exercise, which occurred in 2011. Back then Zambia’s population was a little over 14 million; now it’s 21.9 million.
The creation of 55 new constituencies is made more urgent by the government’s decision to increase the Constituency Development Fund — the country’s main social security pot — from roughly $68,000 to $1.5 million per constituency. Without the creation of new electoral districts, many citizens will miss out on this funding.
Sishuwa also mischaracterises the clause in Bill 7 that prevents political parties from replacing their candidates if they are disqualified after nominations have closed. In the past, this quirk of Zambia’s Constitution has delayed important elections by weeks or even months, as fresh nominations are required even when a candidate has been found guilty of corruption. Such provisions are nowhere to be found in the constitutions of other democracies, including the US and South Africa.
Column inches and the modern attention span will not permit me to tackle any more of Sishuwa’s inaccuracies and half-truths. Government is a messy business and even the best leaders cannot get every call right. But Zambians have a lot to be proud of in their democracy in recent years. Peace and respect has returned to the public square. Corrupt officials have been brought to justice. The death penalty has been abolished, freedom of information laws introduced, and not a single media house has closed on our watch. All as we emerge, slowly but surely, from one of the worst economic crises in our nation’s history.
As the survivor of two fraudulent elections and a four-month prison term while in opposition, President Hichilema has always worked to strengthen Zambians’ democratic rights. As we look ahead to next year’s elections, the government hopes that more citizens than ever will get to exercise those rights freely and fairly.

Why Is HH So Desperate to Pass Bill 7 That Three MPs Are Set to Lose Their Seats Through Trumped-Up Convictions?
By Thandiwe Ketiš Ngoma
Information reaching me from a UPND government official, whose name I am withholding for security reasons, alleges that President Hakainde Hichilema is orchestrating a plan to secure the two-thirds majority needed to pass Bill 7. According to the source, the President has allegedly directed two magistrates to convict Binwell Mpundu and the Chiengi MP before December, and has also allegedly asked Speaker Nellie Mutti to declare Tasila Lungu’s seat vacant.
These are serious allegations that, if true, represent a direct threat to the independence of Parliament and the judiciary. They suggest an attempt to manipulate institutions designed to uphold democracy for narrow political gain.
The Stakes Are High
Bill 7 requires a two-thirds majority, a threshold the ruling party cannot easily achieve without full compliance from its members and the cooperation of independent voices. The alleged plan—targeting opposition MPs and manipulating parliamentary seats—raises fears that the legislative process could be subverted through intimidation and procedural abuse rather than through genuine debate and consensus.
Implications for Democracy
Even as allegations, these claims underscore a critical truth: Zambia’s democracy relies on independent institutions, fair processes, and the ability of MPs to act without fear. Any attempt to use the courts or the Speaker’s office to engineer outcomes undermines public trust and sets a dangerous precedent for governance in the future.
Call to Action
I call upon the judiciary, particularly Chief Justice Mumba Malila, not to destroy his reputation by permitting the ongoing politicisation of the judicial system. I also specifically implore presiding magistrates and High Court judges to resist being abused by politicians in the executive. Politicians come and go, but the integrity of the judiciary must remain intact.
There are several examples of judges of the superior courts who aligned themselves with partisan causes and whose careers ended ingloriously after a change of government. Magistrate David Simusamba, High Court Judge Wilfred Muma, and Constitutional Court Justices Annie Sitali, Mungeni Mulenga, and Palan Mulonda are the most recent high-profile examples of judges who exited the judiciary owing to questionable conduct under the previous administration.
I particularly wish to sound a warning to the following Lusaka-based regime-friendly magistrates whose conduct the public is closely watching:
Magistrate Davies Chibwili
Magistrate Webster Milumbe
Magistrate Idah Phiri Mupemo
Magistrate Trevor Kasanda
Conclusion
Bill 7 was already rejected by the courts as illegal and should never be resuscitated without adhering to the orders issued by the Constitutional Court—that a committee of experts be constituted and that adequate public consultation be carried out to undertake the exercise. Anything short of this will amount to lawlessness and will be unconstitutional. #zambianwhistleblower #ZWB
THE STRENGTH OF BALANCED LEADERSHIP By Hannah Israel
Leadership is one of the most important pillars of any political party. It defines the vision, gives direction, and inspires both members and the nation at large. But as I reflect on where we are today and where we are going, one truth stands out clearly: our party needs both kinds of leadership … the seasoned wisdom of experience and the passionate drive of conviction.
Experience brings stability. Leaders who have walked the long road of public service carry with them lessons that cannot be found in books or speeches. They have seen victories and challenges, and their guidance often helps us avoid costly mistakes. Their presence ensures continuity and provides a sense of reassurance to the membership that the party is grounded on firm foundations.
On the other hand, conviction brings energy. A new generation of leaders rises with courage, determination, and the fire to challenge what seems impossible. Their strength lies in their boldness to push boundaries, to question the status quo, and to carry forward the hopes of ordinary citizens who long for change. Conviction is what keeps the party vibrant and relevant in a fast-changing world.
The reality is that no party can thrive with only one of these qualities. Too much reliance on experience without conviction can make us stagnant. At the same time, conviction without the steadying hand of experience can lead to costly errors. The secret lies in striking the balance.
Our task, therefore, is to unite both sides. To embrace the wisdom of those who have carried the torch for years and to welcome the strength of those rising to lead us into the future. We must build a culture where experience does not silence conviction, and conviction does not dismiss experience. Instead, both should complement one another for the greater good of the party and the nation.
If we achieve this balance, our leadership will be unstoppable. We will have the patience to listen, the courage to act, and the wisdom to guide. Most importantly, we will earn the trust of the people, because they will see in us not just leaders, but a family united by purpose.
In conclusion, let us recognize that leadership is not about choosing one over the other. It is about blending both. Experience is our compass, conviction is our engine, and together they will take us further than we have ever gone before.

National Police Headquarters Spokesperson Peter Kalaya said the law enforcers arrested the eight at Nkhoma Constituency Tally Centre in Lilongwe where they were working as Data Entry Clerks during this year’s elections.
According to Kalata, the arrest of the eight follows investigations the Service was conducting on an attempted suicide case involving Mr Clement Chikankha, a Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Constituency Returning Officer for Lilongwe Nkhoma Constituency.
“The Service is also following up on a number of similar cases reported in Mangochi, Chikwawa, Blantyre, Machinga and Rumphi Districts.

Infrastructure development — roads, energy, and digital connectivity — could link rural areas to markets and jobs, laying the foundation for long-term growth.
By empowering small and medium enterprises, Mutharika could unleash entrepreneurship among Malawi’s youth, turning job seekers into job creators.
Governance reforms, particularly an uncompromising fight against corruption, could restore public trust and attract both domestic and international investors.
Education and healthcare reforms could prepare Malawi’s citizens with the skills and wellbeing needed for a competitive future.
On the regional stage, Mutharika could position Malawi as a diplomatic bridge-builder, leveraging Southern African trade partnerships for mutual prosperity.
If unity, inclusiveness, and tolerance guide his leadership, Malawi could experience healing from divisions and embrace a renewed sense of shared national destiny.
Within the next five years, Malawi has the potential to stand not just as a functioning democracy but as a nation on the rise, charting its own path to prosperity and stability.
For Mutharika, this victory — announced by The Investigator Magazine — is more than a political comeback.
It is a second chance to leave behind a legacy defined by transformation, growth, and national pride.
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) has described Malawi’s 2025 General Election as generally peaceful and orderly.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lilongwe on Thursday, SEOM Head of Mission, Themba Nhlanganiso Masuku, said the political and security environment before, during, and immediately after polling day was calm.
He noted that most stakeholders confirmed the campaign period was conducted without widespread violence or intimidation, with political parties and independent candidates able to campaign freely across the country.
Masuku, however, pointed out isolated cases of political tension and pockets of violence in districts such as Kasungu, Mangochi, and Nkhotakota.
The Mission urged authorities to ensure impartial handling of electoral-related offences.
SEOM will issue its final report within 30 days, but preliminary findings commended the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) for professionalism and stakeholder engagement throughout the process.
VICE PRESIDENT NALUMANGO HAILS NGOCC FOR 40 YEARS OF CHAMPIONING GENDER EQUALITY
Lusaka, September 20, 2025 – Republican Vice President W.K. Mutale Nalumango has commended the Non-Governmental Organisation Coordinating Council (NGOCC) for its forty years of dedicated work in advancing gender equality and setting the agenda for women’s empowerment in Zambia.
Speaking during a gala dinner held at the Golden Peacock Hotel in Lusaka to mark the anniversary, Mrs. Nalumango described NGOCC’s journey as “a story of standing up for the woman” that was worth celebrating, harnessing, guarding, and telling.
The Vice President noted that Zambia has made tremendous strides in gender parity, adding that the New Dawn administration recognizes the importance of having more women in key decision-making positions as a catalyst for inclusive governance.
“NGOCC has been a strategic partner to government in addressing challenges facing women, including gender-based violence, gender injustice, and social inequality,” she said.
She further encouraged women to hold hands together and celebrate each other’s contributions to society
In her welcoming remarks, NGOCC Executive Director Ann Mbewe-Anamela said the 40th anniversary marked a journey of learning, achieving milestones, and overcoming challenges affecting women across Zambia.
She stressed that NGOCC is a learning organisation committed to adapting to a changing world and passing the baton to the youth, who she described as the future of the movement.

Delivering his keynote address during the Opening Ceremony of the Vocational Education International Collaborative Development Community in Nantong, Ambassador Zyuulu praised the hosts for convening what he described as a timely and impactful forum focused on vocational education and skills development.
The Ambassador emphasized the longstanding Zambia–China partnership, rooted in solidarity and mutual respect, and further strengthened through frameworks such as the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the Belt and Road Initiative.
He noted that vocational education plays a vital role in driving industrialization, job creation, and digital transformation in both countries.

This is according to statement issued by Second Secretary Communication Catherine Kashoti at the Embassy of the Republic of Zambia, Beijing, China.
Crashed plane in Brazil has no link to Zambia – CAA
THE Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has denied any connection to a small aircraft that crashed in Brazil last week with nearly 200 kilograms of cocaine on board, refuting viral social media claims that the aircraft was registered in Zambia.
The plane, an Airplane Factory Sling 4, went down in a sugarcane field near the coastal town of Coruiripe in Brazil’s Alagoas state on September 14, 2025, killing the sole occupant, a 46-year-old Australian pilot identified as Timothy Clark.
Authorities later uncovered large quantities of cocaine branded with fake SpaceX logos in the wreckage, sparking a transnational investigation into possible drug trafficking.
While initial reports suggested the plane carried a Zambian registration, the Civil Aviation Authority clarified that the aircraft, which bore the registration ZU-IXM was never part of Zambia’s official aircraft register.
CAA public relations manager Sepiso Zimba emphasised that Zambia’s official aircraft registration prefix is ‘9J’, as assigned by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
Zimba stated that the prefix “ZU” is associated with South African experimental aircraft, not Zambia.
“After thoroughly reviewing our database, we can confirm that the aircraft being discussed on social media does not appear on our register,” she said.
“The plane involved, a non-type certified Sling 4, was using the registration ZU-IXM , a mark that does not originate from Zambia.”
She added that the authority will continue following developments around the incident and will issue further updates if credible, verified information comes forward.
GONE VIRAL: BRUCE MWAPE BREAKS SILENCE: SAYS HE WAS NEVER PAID DESPITE MAKING HISTORY WITH COPPER QUEENS
By: Crown TV Zambia
Bruce Mwape, Zambia’s most successful coach, has made a shocking claim that he wasn’t paid at all during his time as coach of the Copper Queens national team.
This is despite qualifying the Zambia women’s national team to the Olympics twice in a row, the world and numerous Africa cup competitions. Initially, Mwape worked without a contract for almost four years and didn’t receive any payment.
Later, after qualifying the team to the Olympic Games for the second time and with Lisa Cole joining as technical advisor, he was offered a two-year contract worth $3,500 monthly.
However, despite signing the contract, Mwape claims he never received any payment.
Furthermore, Mwape revealed that he only received half of the allowances for the 2020 Olympic Games, and didn’t get any allowances for the 2024 Olympics or the 2023 World Cup.
Ramaphosa clarifies comments on DA-run municipalities
President Cyril Ramaphosa has addressed the controversy sparked by his recent comments praising DA-run municipalities for their clean audits.
Speaking to the SABC, Ramaphosa said his remarks were based on the Auditor-General’s reports, which highlighted financial compliance but do not necessarily reflect effective governance or service delivery.
He emphasized that several ANC-run municipalities also achieved clean audits and stressed that compliance alone is not enough to improve residents’ lives.
Ramaphosa urged a balanced approach combining financial accountability with tangible service delivery improvements.
The president’s earlier praise drew criticism from some ANC members who felt it undermined the party’s achievements.
Ramaphosa clarified that his comments had been misinterpreted and reiterated the importance of both clean audits and transformative governance.
While addressing reporters at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Thursday, renowned Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton revealed that he has sold his multi-million-dollar car collection. The 40-year-old British-Grenadian racer also disclosed that he’s now mostly focused on art.
Per the Independent, Hamilton’s car collection included limited edition Ferraris, Mercedes, and McLarens.
“I don’t have any cars any more,” the seven-time world champion and Ferrari driver said. “I got rid of all my cars. I’m more into art nowadays,” he also disclosed. “If I was going to get a car, it would be the (Ferrari) F40. But that’s a nice piece of art.”
This isn’t the first time Hamilton has spoken about parting ways with his car collection. In 2019, he said that he no longer had some of his cars and was into hybrid or electric types. He also no longer owns a private jet as he has sold it.
“I don’t drive any of the cars that I own any more. I only drive my (electric Mercedes) EQC,” he also said in 2020 when he was still signed to Mercedes. Outside of sports, Hamilton is a vegan and a staunch environmental activist.
Hamilton, in the interview, also expressed optimism about getting the right results at this weekend’s Baku Grand Prix.
“I feel optimistic coming into the weekend. I feel like I’ve found a couple of things and now I need to work on extracting them. So, I really hope that this weekend can be the start of that,” Hamilton, who has won 105 races, said.
4x400M ZAMBIA MEN’S RELAY TEAM BOYCOTT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS DUE TO UNPAID ALLOWANCES
By Cosmas Chongo Mulenga
The Zambia 4x400m Men’s Relay Team has boycotted the ongoing 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, demanding that allowances from previous competitions be settled before they take part in their race scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, September 19.
The team is set to compete in the 4x400m men’s heat at 18:35hrs Zambian time.
However, the athletes have vowed not to step on the track until their dues are paid.
Speaking to Diamond Sports in an exclusive interview, the Zambia Athletics General Secretary Shimishi Teddy has confirmed that the association is working to ensure payments are made tonight, stressing that efforts are underway to resolve the standoff.
The relay team earned their place at the World Championships with a qualifying time of 2:59.12.
This development comes months after Botswana’s 4x400m Men’s Relay Team also withdrew from the World Athletics Relays in May 2025, citing unpaid bonuses and a lack of transparency regarding funds donated following their historic performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
TURNING DREAMS INTO REALITY: PRINCE MUCHIMBA GRADUATES FROM ZCAS UNIVERSITY
Prince Muchimba has shown that determination knows no limits. Born differently abled, he never allowed his circumstances to define his dreams. His goal has always been to live a normal life independently and to build a career in accountancy.
Yesterday, Prince achieved a major milestone by graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from ZCAS University. This achievement reflects his hard work, dedication, and focus.
Prince’s journey has been supported by Maamba Energy Limited (formerly Maamba Collieries Limited), who recognized his potential many years ago. The company has been covering all his tuition, accommodation, and other necessities, helping him realize his dreams.
Congratulations to Prince Muchimba on this remarkable achievement. More great things are surely on the horizon for him.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris has criticized the Trump administration over its “assault on free speech” after Jimmy Kimmel was suspended from ABC over his comments about the ass@ssination of Charlie Kirk.
“What we are witnessing is an outright abuse of power,” wrote Harris on X, without mentioning Kimmel directly.
“This administration is attacking critics and using fear as a weapon to silence anyone who would speak out. Media corporations — from television networks to newspapers — are capitulating to these threats.”
She added, “We cannot dare to be silent or complacent in the face of this frontal assault on free speech. We, the People, deserve better.”
Harris joins a long list of politicians and celebrities alike raising concerns about the threat to free speech after ABC’s decision to “indefinitely” pull Jimmy Kimmel Live! amid pressure from the administration.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom said the Republican Party “does not believe in free speech,” adding, “These aren’t coincidences. It’s coordinated. And it’s dangerous… They are censoring you in real time.”
In his own post to X, Barack Obama wrote, “After years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like.”
An ABC spokesperson confirmed Wednesday that Kimmel would be pulled shortly after Nexstar, the largest TV station owner, kicked his late-night show off its U.S. stations.
During Kimmel’s Monday monologue, the comedian criticized right-wingers for trying to “score political points” off Kirk’s murder. “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said on his show.
President Donald Trump’s Federal Communications Commission chairman, Brendan Carr, publicly called on licensed broadcasters to stop airing Kimmel’s show the following day.
“We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” Carr previously said speaking with conservative podcaster Benny Johnson.
“These companies can find ways to change conduct and take action, frankly, on Kimmel or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”
Jose Mourinho has admitted that joining Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce was a mistake.
The 62-year-old coach has been out of work since last month, when Fenerbahce dismissed him after the club failed to qualify for the Champions League.
His availability immediately fueled speculation about his next move, and earlier this week he was strongly linked with Benfica following the dismissal of Bruno Lage. On Thursday, Benfica confirmed Mourinho’s appointment in a statement to the country’s Securities Market Commission, announcing a contract that runs until the end of the 2026–27 season.
At his unveiling press conference, Mourinho reflected on his short spell in Turkey and set out his ambitions for Benfica.
“My career has been rich, I’ve coached in different countries. I made the wrong choice, but I have no regrets. I made a mistake going to Fenerbahce, but I gave everything until the last day. Coaching Benfica is returning to my level,” Mourinho said.
Looking ahead, he expressed confidence in Benfica’s potential to challenge for silverware.
“Promises are worth what they’re worth. At the time, at FC Porto, I promised and could have broken them. I truly believe Benfica has everything it takes to win the championship. They’ve dropped points, and we may drop more, but we’re starting from scratch.
Benfica has the potential in the dressing room to be champions. It’s not a promise, but the conviction that we can and should make it happen. The context for me is coaching one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
Iran has withdrawn a draft resolution at the UN nuclear watchdog that sought to ban attacks on nuclear facilities, citing heavy pressure from the United States on member states.
The resolution, co-sponsored by Belarus, China, Nicaragua, Russia, and Venezuela, was tabled at the annual general conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). It condemned the June 2025 strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, calling them violations of international law and a threat to global security.
The backdrop to this move is the 12-day war that erupted in mid-June after Israel launched an unprecedented bombing campaign on Iran, which was later joined by U.S. strikes targeting key nuclear installations. The conflict marked one of the most direct confrontations between Iran and Israel in decades.
Iran’s ambassador to the IAEA, Reza Najafi, told the meeting that the resolution would not be put to a vote, explaining that “a large number of IAEA member states have stated in separate contacts with Iran and other sponsors of the resolution that they are under severe pressure and intimidation from the United States not to vote in favour.”
The draft text had “strongly condemned the deliberate and unlawful attacks” and emphasized that IAEA-safeguarded nuclear sites “shall not be subject to any kind of attack or threat of attack.” It also warned that such strikes undermine international peace and erode the credibility of the global non-proliferation system.
Tensions remain high. Last week, Iran struck a new framework deal with the IAEA to resume cooperation after halting engagement in the wake of the June attacks. Meanwhile, the UN Security Council is expected to vote Friday on whether to reimpose sweeping economic sanctions on Tehran over its nuclear program.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Friday that Tehran has presented a “fair and balanced” proposal to European powers in a last-ditch effort to prevent the return of sanctions.
President Donald Trump has claimed he blocked London Mayor Sadiq Khan from attending the Windsor Castle state banquet during his controversial UK visit.
Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Trump said he “didn’t want [Khan] there” and criticized the mayor’s record.
Trump told reporters, “I think the Mayor of London, Khan, is among the worst mayors in the world, and we have some bad ones. I think he’s done a terrible job. Crime in London is through the roof. I asked that he not be [at the banquet]. He wanted to be there, as I understand, I didn’t want him. I’ve not liked him for a long time.”
Sir Sadiq hit back, noting that a “record number of Americans” are moving to London, suggesting the city’s appeal contrasts with Trump’s comments. A source close to Khan said, “Trump’s politics is one of fear and division. This includes talking down our great capital city. London is a global success story. It’s open, dynamic and safer than major US cities. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons record numbers of Americans are choosing to make London their home.”
Metro reports that Khan had no intention of attending the state banquet and that City Hall “didn’t expect or seek” an invitation. Despite holding the status of a Privy Counsellor and having served as a government minister, the mayor is not normally invited to state banquets in his role as London mayor. He did, however, attend a white-tie dinner at Mansion House in December 2024 for the Emir of Qatar’s state visit.
The feud between Trump and Khan is longstanding. In 2015, Khan criticized Trump after he proposed banning Muslims from entering the US. Trump later attacked Khan’s response to the 2017 London Bridge terrorist attack, tweeting, “At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack, and Mayor of London says there is ‘no reason to be alarmed!’” In 2018, Khan permitted the now-famous Trump baby blimp to fly over London during protests against the US president’s visit, explaining, “I shouldn’t be the arbiter, as a politician, of what’s in good taste or bad taste, what’s important is it to be peaceful, and for it to be safe. And, frankly speaking, the idea that we limit the rights to protest, we limit the rights to free speech because it may cause offence to a foreign leader is a very, very slippery slope.”
Trump made his latest comments shortly after Marine One, carrying him and First Lady Melania, experienced a hydraulic issue before landing at Stansted Airport. Boarding Air Force One, he joked about the incident, saying, “Fly safely. You know why I say that? Because I’m on the flight. Otherwise, I wouldn’t care.”
A group of West Africans deported from the United States has filed a lawsuit against the Ghanaian government, claiming they were transferred to the country despite holding protection orders from US immigration authorities.
The suit, lodged in a Ghanaian court, was brought on behalf of 11 people from Nigeria, Togo, Gambia, Liberia and Mali. The plaintiffs say they have been detained since arrival without charge and with little or no access to lawyers.
Their case comes after President John Mahama confirmed last week that his government had agreed with Washington to accept deportees from across West Africa, as President Donald Trump ramps up expulsions. The Trump administration has expanded the practice of sending people to third countries, including hundreds reportedly transferred to a prison in El Salvador.
The deportations to Ghana are believed to have begun in early September, though officials have released few details, including the current location of those held. The group is thought to be detained at a military facility.
“They are not charged with violations of any Ghanaian law,” said their lawyer Oliver Barker-Vormawor. “All of these people were seeking asylum in the US, and they’ve made clear they were facing persecution — whether religious, political, or based on sexual orientation.”
Authorities initially announced that 14 deportees had arrived and would be allowed to stay in Ghana temporarily under regional visa-free travel rules or return to their home countries. While officials claimed all had left, Barker-Vormawor said only three returned home, with 11 still in custody.
The group includes four Nigerians, three Togolese, two Malians, one Liberian and one Gambian. Barker-Vormawor said he has written to the military seeking access to his clients but has not been granted permission.
Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has already confirmed that 40 more deportees are expected in the coming days, stressing that Ghana’s decision was based on “humanitarian concerns” and did not amount to an endorsement of US immigration policy.
The attorney general’s office has yet to comment on the case. Barker-Vormawor said additional deportees arrived on Thursday but that the exact timeline of the transfers remains unclear.
ZELENKSY: 580 DRONES, 40 MISSILES, RUSSIA’S BIGGEST ATTACK IN MONTHS
“All night, Ukraine was under a massive attack by Russia. The enemy launched 40 missiles – cruise and ballistic – and about 580 drones of various types.
I thank all our warriors who defended the skies throughout the night, and our F-16 pilots, who once again proved their prowess today and effectively countered the cruise missile threat against Ukraine.
The strikes targeted Dnipro and the region, as well as Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia regions, and communities in Poltava, Kyiv, Odesa, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions. The enemy aimed at our infrastructure, residential areas, and civilian enterprises. In Dnipro, a missile with cluster munitions directly struck an apartment building.
As of now, we know of dozens of people injured from the shelling, and, unfortunately, 3 people killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones.
Every such strike is not a military necessity but a deliberate strategy by Russia to terrorize civilians and destroy our infrastructure. That is why a strong international response is needed.
Ukraine has proven it can defend itself and Europe, but for a reliable shield, we must act together: strengthen air defense, increase weapons supplies, and expand sanctions against Russia’s military machine and the sectors that finance it. Every restriction on Russia saves lives. I thank everyone who helps and supports us.”
U.S. President Donald Trump will sign an executive order Friday, September 19, adding a $100,000 fee to all H1-B visa applications, a White House official said.
The move marks the latest crackdown by the administration on migrants coming into the US for job opportunities, and is likely intended to limit visa applicants to those from higher financial brackets.
The new order restricts entry under the H-1B visa program unless the application fee is paid, the official said.
The administration views the current H1-B visa program — which admits hundreds of thousands of workers into the US each year — as a way for companies to exploit lower-wage employees, ultimately impacting US salaries.
The new application fee potentially deals a big blow to the technology sector that relies heavily on skilled workers from India and China.
Adding new fees “creates disincentive to attract the world’s smartest talent to the U.S.,” said Deedy Das, partner at venture capital firm Menlo Ventures, on X. “If the U.S. ceases to attract the best talent, it drastically reduces its ability to innovate and grow the economy.”
The $100,000 fee could significantly push up costs for companies. While the new fees may not deter Big Tech, which routinely spends heavily to secure top talent, it could squeeze smaller tech firms and start-ups.
Roughly two-thirds of jobs secured through the program are computer-related, government figures show, but employers also use the visa to bring in engineers, educators and healthcare workers.
India was the largest beneficiary of H-1B visas last year, accounting for 71% of approved beneficiaries, while China was a distant second at 11.7%, according to government data.
In the first half of 2025, Amazon.com (AMZN.O), opens new tab had more than 10,000 H-1B visas approved, while Microsoft (MSFT.O), opens new tab and Meta Platforms (META.O), opens new tab had over 5,000 H-1B visa approvals each.
Global football governing body FIFA has confirmed a major change to the international match calendar, announcing that starting next season, the traditional September and October international breaks will be merged into a single extended break.
The new window will run from September 21 to October 6, giving national teams more time to prepare while also reducing disruption to domestic leagues.
This adjustment is part of FIFA’s broader efforts to balance the increasingly congested football calendar.
Under the current system, clubs lose their players twice in quick succession once in early September and again in mid October which has often led to complaints from coaches about player fatigue and scheduling issues.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino explained that the decision was reached after extensive consultations with continental confederations, national associations and key stakeholders.
“The new format will streamline the international calendar and allow clubs and players to better manage their workloads while giving national teams more time to train and play competitive matches,” Infantino said.
The combined window will give national teams the opportunity to play up to four matches, compared to the usual two or three per break.
This is expected to benefit World Cup and continental tournament qualifiers by providing longer preparation periods and fewer interruptions to club competitions.
For domestic leagues, particularly in Europe, Africa and South America, the move is seen as a positive step.
Clubs will now face only one major disruption in the early months of the season, allowing for a more consistent league schedule.
However, some concerns have been raised about the potential strain on players during the two week window, as they may have to travel long distances and play multiple high intensity games in a short span.
FIFA has promised to work with confederations to manage travel demands and minimize the risk of injuries.
This change will take effect starting with the 2025/26 season, meaning the upcoming September and October 2025 breaks will be the last under the current system.
It also marks another step in FIFA’s ongoing restructuring of the football calendar following the expansion of the FIFA Club World Cup and changes to World Cup qualification formats.
Malawi Congress Party (MCP) running mate in the September 16 general elections, Vitumbiko Mumba says the party has lodged a complaint with the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) over alleged irregularities during the election.
Mumba is speaking at a media briefing at party headquarters in Lilongwe.
He says every well meaning Malawian wants the election process to follow the law, and thanks the Malawi Electoral Commission for being professional.
“Some people do not want the will of Malawians to be respected. Such behavior can’t go without being exposed.
“There were some presiding officers, and Constituency returning officers who were manipulating data in favour of some candidate, and have been arrested.”
According to Mumba, the party has this evening lodged a complaint with MEC over the same.
Districts allegedly affected include Mangochi, Thyolo, Rumphi, but Mumba alleges that they are 13 in total.
Wilfrid Mbappé: “I coached Kylian for 2 years, nobody knew he was my son… Until one day he said ‘Papa’.
“One day, I lost it with Kylian, just once. He laughed about it later, and now I can too. I shouted and mixed everything up, being both father and coach.
“It was at half-time of a match. He had been moved down a category because we weren’t doing well in the standings. He was 14 or 15, already at Clairefontaine, a period when he was working on his left foot. And he was practising with his left foot during the match.
“I told him: ‘Hey, we’re playing for survival here!’ He missed a lot and we were losing 1-0 at half-time. I was furious… Fifteen minutes of talk, thirteen of them just me yelling! I hit the paperboard and everything.
“He didn’t react, because I was both his father and his coach… In the end, he scored twice and we won 2-1. I was really ashamed. I became what I never wanted to be. He told his mother: ‘Dad is crazy,’ laughing. It was a wake-up call for me.”
BINWELL MPUNDU RULED OUT OF ORDER FOR CALLING AGRICULTURE MINISTER “ABENE BANSALA”
By: Thomas Afroman Mwale
Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Malungo Chisangano has ruled Nkana Member of Parliament Binwell Mpundu out of order for calling Agriculture Minister Reuben Mtolo Phiri “Abene Bansala” (Patron of Hunger).
The decision followed a Point of Order raised by Katombola MP Clement Andeleki, who asked whether Mr. Mpundu was in order to use the phrase against the minister during parliamentary proceedings.
In response, the ichabaiche President defended his statement, saying it was made in the spirit of cousinship traditionally shared between Northerners and Easterners.
However, the Deputy Speaker ruled that the remark was inappropriate, emphasizing that Zambia does not have a ministerial position called Patron of Hunger, before officially declaring Mr. Mpundu out of order.

CHISAMBA farmer Maria Zaloumis, her partner Nathaniel Barthram and three others charged with murder with her will appear for mention in the Kabwe magistrates court on Monday.
Meanwhile, some undisciplined police officers and overzealous officials believed to be from the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) caused a stir when they harassed the journalists covering the matter on the orders of Zaloumis and her four accomplices at at Kabwe High Court.
Kabwe High Court judge-in-charge Kelvin Limbani has ordered the murder accused to be brought before the subordinate court.
Zaloumis and the four others were arrested last month in connection with the murder of 22-year-old Enoch Simfukwe on August 17.
A postmortem examination conducted on Simfukwe’s corpse revelead that the cause of death was blunt force head injury, brain contusion and brain edema suggesting severe beating.
Justice Limbani made the order yesterday during a hearing in the chambers following an application for habeas corpus for the five accused persons.
He said the law demanded that accused persons should be presented before a competent court within 72 hours after being arrested and charged.
“Therefore the court has ordered that the accused persons should appear by September 22, 2025 for mention in the Kabwe subordinate court,” Justice Limbani said.
The defence had earlier made an application for habeas corpus on behalf of the detainees, who had been in police custody for close to a month without appearing in court.
Principal state advocate Paul Kachimba told the court that the five murder suspects had been charged and officially arrested.
Kachimba said the application was served to them Wednesday and they were able to furnish the police with the application which was returnable yesterday.
Justice Limbani directed the State to preempt the contents of the affidavit file and respond later.
The State preempted the affidavit in opposition as the applicants who were all jointly and officially charged and the docket of the case was still with the Director of Public Prosecution for perusal and instructions.
Defence lawyer Keith Katazo contended that it was not in the interest of natural justice to keep the suspects in custody for a long time without taking them to court while conducting investigations.
Katazo insisted that Zaloumis and her accomplices should be heard in court or be released.
Meanwhile, Zaloumis, her four accomplices and their families caused an unnecessary stir at Kabwe High Court when they ordered police to arrest reporters from various media houses who were seen capturing pictures.
But the reporters courageously fought back and resisted attempts to confiscate their cameras and smart phones.
They later sought protection from the provincial high command, which they urged to reign in its overzealous police officers and educate them on the role of journalists.
Some police officers in the company of some officials believed to be from the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) who had accompanied ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis to court faced resistance from the media personnel, when they attempted to grab the gadgets used in capturing the photos.
Reporters Munambeza Muwanei from Times of Zambia, Chambo Ng’uni from Zambia Daily Mail and Thandizo Banda from The Mast newspaper faced harassment from the families of the accused and officers from the Zambia Police Service and ECZ.
The journalists reported the matter to police in Kabwe seeking protection from further harassment during trial, which begins on Monday.
JUDITH KABEMBA SAYS NO CHANGE OF GOVERNMENT IN 2026, EYES STRONGER SHOWING IN 2031
Democratic Party (DP) President Judith Kabemba has expressed confidence that Zambia will not see a change of government in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
In a Social Media comment, Ms Kabemba noted that while her party will compete vigorously, the realistic path to power lies in building momentum for 2031.
She stated that only those “who smoke fresh weed” believe they can win the presidency next year.
Ms Kabemba emphasised that the DP’s strategy is focused on securing parliamentary seats in 2026 and positioning itself as the second-largest political force nationally.
This, she believes, will provide a credible platform for a serious presidential bid in 2031.
….accuses Brown Kasaro, Mwangala Zaloumis and other commissioners of having turned the ECZ into a cadre-branch of the UPND, incapable of presiding over free, fair and transparent elections in 2026
By BARNABAS ZULU
THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) in its current form is nothing but a cadre-branch of the UPND and Zambians should not expect that the commission under Mwangala Zaloumis, the chairperson and Brown Kasaro, the Chief Electoral Officer will be able to manage a free, fair and transparent 2026 general election, Given Lubinda has charged.
Mr Lubinda, the Patriotic Front (PF) acting president has chastised Mr Kasaro for unilaterally cancelling the Chisankane Ward by-election in Kafue without consulting key stakeholders or giving reasons for the cancellation.
Speaking in an interview yesterday, Mr Lubinda accused Mr Kasaro of treating the ECZ like a private institution and bypassing legal and procedural norms in the management of electoral processes.
Mr Lubinda, who is also the Tonse Alliance acting chairperson has warned that the partisan manner in which the ECZ was being managed had eroded public confidence in the commission ahead of the 2026 general election.
“If this can be happening during a by-election, what confidence will Zambians have in ECZ to handle free and fair elections next year? Stakeholders and Zambians generally have lost confidence in the ECZ being manned by people who are known members and cadres of the UPND. The people of Chisankane Ward want a councillor. They have had no representation since the UPND councillor was fired,” he said.
Mr Lubinda has called for the resignation of ECZ chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis and other officials he alleged were politically compromised and having converted the commission to a cadre-branch of the UPND.
“Mwangala Zaloumis and all UPND cadres posturing as officials at ECZ must resign. They should resign because people have lost confidence. They must resign if they want peace. They are not transparent. They have turned the ECZ into a cadre-branch of the UPND and are incapable of managing a free, fair and transparent general election in 2026,” he said.
He stated that it was outrageous for the ECZ through Mr Kasaro to be making unilateral decisions on the management and electoral process without consulting or informing major stakeholders such as participating political parties.
“It is outrageous for Mr Kasaro to be making decisions and announcing them willy-nilly as though he is handling a private institution. We are demanding that the ECZ commissioners instruct Brown Kasaro to realise that the ECZ is a public institution whose decisions must be made after thorough consultation,” Mr Lubinda said.
He took issue with the lack of clarity surrounding the decision to cancel the Chisankane Ward by-election and the rescheduling of nominations
ZAMBIA WE WANT PRESENTS FIVE VALIDLY NOMINATED PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES
By Brian Matambo – Lusaka, Zambia
September 19, 2025 – The Zambia We Want (ZWW) political party has officially unveiled its five validly nominated presidential aspirants, marking a significant milestone in its democratic journey ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Nominations closed on Thursday, 18th September 2025, at 19:00 hours. At exactly 11:00 hours today, the Ad-hoc Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), represented by Mwandu Nsama from Nsama and Company Legal Practitioners as Ad-Hoc Chairperson representing LAZ Council, confirmed that five applications had met all constitutional and procedural requirements. The IEC highlighted that each candidate submitted a copy of their National Registration Card, a valid Grade 12 certificate, a summarized curriculum vitae, proof of a fully paid-up party membership, and the mandatory nomination fee of K45,000.
After vetting, the following five contenders were declared successful, listed in alphabetical order: 1. Ernest Chituwa Mwansa – President 2. Dr. Bupe Auxilia Ponga – President and vice president 3. Richewell Siamunene – President, trustee, and chairperson for Lands and Natural Resources 4. Robert Kenneth Kaponda Sichinga – President and chairperson roles in Economics and Finance 5. Kapembwa Simbao – President and trustee
The IEC further announced that the official campaign period opens today, 19th September, and will conclude on 22nd September 2025. A peer review process will take place on Monday, 22nd September, with the party elections scheduled for Tuesday, 23rd September 2025.
Delivering remarks at the end of the brief announcement, George Chulumanda commended the work of the ad-hoc commission and praised the transparent handling of the nomination process. He noted that ZWW is positioning itself as one of the few political parties in Zambia that has demonstrated genuine internal democracy and openness.
The event was monitored and livestreamed by EMV, ensuring that the information reached the public in real time.
With campaigns now underway, ZWW enters a decisive phase that will test its internal unity and organizational strength. The upcoming elections will not only determine its leadership but also shape how the party positions itself as a credible alternative on Zambia’s political landscape ahead of 2026.

We are winning to liberate Zambia from tribalism, underdevelopment – CF
The opposition Citizens First (CF) says the party has now started winning elections, towards their aim to liberate Zambia from rampant under development and tribalism.
CF deputy secretary general general Dr Kasese Bota, said CF had shown that they were capable of winning elections, after defeating the ruling UPND and other opposition parties in the Mufili ward elections in Lupososhi ward during yesterday’s by-elections.
“The streak of loses has ended, that’s why when people tell us we are mobilising and getting zeros, we are not just getting zeros we leave our presence,” Dr Bota said.
She thanked the people of Mufili who she said as having confidence in CF leader Harry Kalaba, stressing it was very difficult to win a ward by-election especially when contesting against a ruling party.
“We are now winning to deliver Zambians from rampant under development and the tribalism which is going unchecked. The evidence of tribalism is there and you fail to say anything even to censure the person involved,” Dr Bota said.
She challenged President Hakainde Hichilema to fire RATSA chief executive officer Amon Mweemba if he did not send him to focus on employing those from Southern Province over the internal job recruitment at the agency.
“We expect the leadership to fire the RATSA director if they did not instruct him to do what he did … to push one tribe over the others,” Dr Bota said. “Leadership has no tribe, it has no region, it has only Zambia.”
She further demanded for an audit of all the government institutions to establish and correct the levels of tribalism.
Dr Bota said it had never happened before where all the ambassadors in key diplomatic postings all hailed from the one region.
She said she remembers when she was serving as Ambassador other names such as Palan Mulonda from Central and Dr Ngosa Simbyakula, Southern, Wilbur Simuusa, Southern, Mutiti Ndiyoi Western, Winnie Chibesakunda (Southern) and Muyeba Chikonde from Luapula all served in key embassies.
“If there was tribalism in PF, it should be denounced, just as the UPND tribalism should be denounced. And one cannot use the tribalism in PF to justify the current tribalism when President HH had told us he was going to unite the country.
How do you unite the country when the CEO of RATSA is clearly discounting those from Chipata or Eastern Province and northern parts of Zambia in preference for someone from Southern Province, and you are a President and are quiet about it?” Dr Bota said.
“The so called Bemba tribalism in PF, and the writing down of our names by some so called political analysts with little to analyze is unfortunate. Those Bemba names they put are covering at a minimum 7 provinces among provinces. You can’t say
