Zambians not benefiting from improved Kwacha, fuel prices

Zambians not benefiting from improved Kwacha, fuel prices

Alliance Against Corruption executive director Noel Chisebe has expressed disappointment over the failure by manufacturers, wholesalers and traders to adjust their pricing mechanisms in response to the modest decline in fuel prices, improved inflation rate and the strengthened Kwacha.

He is therefore calling on the government to establish a regulatory framework to monitor and control price adjustments in order to ensure fairness and transparency.

Chisebe is not alone in expressing these views, as millions of other Zambians are asking the same, wondering why they are not seeing price reductions in the goods and services despite the improved fundamentals.

The millions are also wondering why there isn’t a corresponding reduction in the prices of goods when fundamentals are improving, as opposed to the almost automatic rise in prices consumers experience in times when the Kwacha depreciates and fuel prices as well as inflation rise.

Clearly, the consumers are not benefiting from the improvements that have been noticed in the recent past. This is something that should concern especially those in government. They are ultimately elected to serve the interests of the masses in the first place. But if the same masses can’t experience the benefit or improvements, the praises from those in government will only remain a song.

Therefore, they must get interested in ensuring that the benefits in improved fundamentals translate towards reduction in prices on the local market, especially in this country were consumer protection is very weak.

CEC Renewables Delivers Solid Half-Year Performance with 99% Generation Output at Its Solar PV Plants

*CEC Renewables Delivers Solid Half-Year Performance with 99% Generation Output at Its Solar PV Plants*

An exceptional performance by its two solar photovoltaic (PV) plants – Riverside and Itimpi in Kitwe – helped CEC Renewables boost its revenues to about US $4.7 million, according to the official half year company results.

The increase, which is 35 percent higher than the US $3.438 million achieved in the same period last year, was driven by a stellar performance of its flagship solar PV generating assets – the 60 MW Itimpi 1 and the 34 MW Riverside Solar Plants – which achieved a high electricity availability rate of 99.9%.

In its continued efforts to deluver value to its investors, CEC Renewables paid US $3.97 million in coupon payments to the Green Bond noteholders, representing a 64% increase from the US $2.42 million paid in 2024 during the same period.

Incorporated in October 2022, CEC Renewables Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) Plc, was established as a platform for renewable energy expansion designed to scale up the deployment of renewable energy across the Zambian grid.

The company became Zambia’s first issuer of a Green Bond valued at US $200 million  that will see its solar footprint increase to over 230 MW by  2026.

According to the half-year 2025 financial results, CEC Renewables also saw its profit grow by 236% compared to the same period last year, largely attributable to a higher revenue base and interest income earned on cash reserves earmarked for the Itimpi II expansion solar project.

“The half-year ended 30 June 2025 was characterised by operational stability, great strategic progress, and resilience in the face of regional economic and climate-related challenges,” CEC Renewables Assets Manager Hilton Fulele commented on the results.

“Our 94 MW Solar PV portfolio continued to perform reliably and met expectations, reinforcing our position as a key contributor to Zambia’s energy transition and sustainability agenda. The Itimpi I and Riverside Solar Plants collectively generated 80.75 GWh in the first half of 2025, marking a remarkable 32% increase compared to 2024,” he added.

The overall positive performance of the two plants was achieved despite unfavourable solar resource conditions between March and June, which reduced average solar radiation needed for optimal operation of solar PV stations.

Fulele explained that the overall impact of reduced solar irradiation on energy yield was partially mitigated by high plant availability and the high standards achieved in operations and maintenance approaches.

“Our operations continue to make a tangible environmental contribution by avoiding an estimated 26,972 tonnes of carbon equivalent emissions during the period. Safety remains a top priority as we proudly report no lost-time injuries in H1 2025 compared to one recorded last year,” said Mr Fulele.

STOP ALL MAIZE EXPORTS UNTIL STRATEGIC NATIONAL RESERVES ARE SECURE  – MUNTHALI

STOP ALL MAIZE EXPORTS UNTIL STRATEGIC NATIONAL RESERVES ARE SECURE  – MUNTHALI

… says the UPND must prioritize Zambians’ food security before exporting maize as drought is always One season away.

LUSAKA, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 13, 2025 [ SMART EAGLES]

The Citizens First party  CF has urged the UPND Government to halt all maize exports until all strategic reserves are secured.

CF National Chairlady Faith Munthali says the UPND must prioritize Zambians’ Food security before exporting Maize because drought is Always One Season away.

She said the recent announcement by the UPND government to export Zambia’s bumper maize harvest is reckless, short-sighted, and a direct threat to national food security.

“While other nations are stockpiling grain in anticipation of global climate shocks, our leaders are rushing to sell off our only insurance against hunger.  Food security must come first. Zambia has been here before—2023’s drought left millions hungry while empty FRA silos gathered dust. Today, instead of learning from history, the UPND is repeating the same mistakes.  I thought this harvest will help them fulfill the promise of citizens buying mealie meal at k50,” she said.

“We demand an immediate halt to all maize exports until the FRA fully stocks 1.5 million metric tons (minimum) as a national strategic reserve, a verified audit confirms Zambia’s 12-month consumption needs (3M+ metric tons) are secured. You cannot eat forex. When drought comes—and it will. It will be cheaper to stock now than to use the same money to buy maize outside,” Ms. Munthali said.

The CF National Chairlady  said the UPND is auctioning Zambia’s future to briefcase traders while Zambians  starve.

“This must stop. A Warning to UPND; Hunger Breeds Anger. Zambians will not forgive a government that exports their food while mealie-meal prices remain unaffordable for ordinary families.  Southern Province farmers still starve due to poor drought mitigation. Smugglers and cartels loot grain under the state’s watch,” she said.

OVER 1.3 MILLION ZAMBIANS BENEFIT FROM SOCIAL CASH TRANSFER

Government has announced that over 1.3 million Zambians are currently benefiting from the Social Cash Transfer programme.

Community Development and Social Services Minister Doreen Mwamba disclosed the development, describing it as a major milestone—especially considering that only 4,600 individuals were beneficiaries in 2021

Mrs. Mwamba made the remarks in Kasama during a courtesy call on Northern Province Permanent Secretary Bernard Mpundu.

Earlier, Mr. Mpundu informed the Minister about the shortage of vehicles under the Department of Social Welfare in Northern Province. He also highlighted that 500 people living with disabilities in the province are in need of wheelchairs.

In response, Mrs. Mwamba assured that her ministry will soon deploy vehicles to support the Social Welfare Department in Northern Province.

She further announced that the province will soon receive 100 wheelchairs to assist people living with disabilities.

Later, Mrs. Mwamba flagged off a vehicle assigned to Social Welfare duties in Nsama District, Northern Province.

FORMER MP JAY BANDA ACCUSES GOVERNMENT OF CULTURAL DISRESPECT IN LUNGU FUNERAL DISPUTE

FORMER MP JAY BANDA ACCUSES GOVERNMENT OF CULTURAL DISRESPECT IN LUNGU FUNERAL DISPUTE

LUSAKA, Zambia  – Former Petauke lawmaker Emmanuel Jay Banda, who survived an alleged assassination attempt involving individuals linked to State House, has sharply criticised the United Party for National Development (UPND) government over its handling of the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s funeral arrangements.

In a livestreamed national address in exile, Banda argued that the dispute over the burial location in South Africa and the government’s reliance on litigation instead of dialogue had humiliated Zambia on the international stage. He said such matters should be resolved through respect for tradition, unity, and consultation, not through court battles.

“This is not the first funeral of a former president. We have buried five before him without these problems,” Banda said. “Proper leadership means putting aside political differences, following cultural protocol, and consulting the chiefs who are custodians of tradition in Eastern Province, where President Lungu came from.”

Banda stressed that in Zambia’s cultural and Christian context, the executive should work hand in hand with traditional authorities. He faulted the president for failing to personally engage Eastern Province’s two paramount chiefs, namely Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni, and Paramount Chief Gawa Undi of the Chewa people instead leaving the matter to be fought in court.

“The paramount chiefs were not even formally informed of the funeral,” Banda said, calling this omission a grave breach of tradition. “You cannot bury a chief, let alone a president, without involving their traditional leadership. That is taboo in our culture.”

He warned that government’s approach had divided rather than united the nation, and risked leaving a damaging legacy. “Leadership is about bringing people together, even your political rivals,” Banda said. “President Hichilema should be in South Africa negotiating with the family, not sending lawyers to fight them.”

Banda urged the head of state to publicly instruct party members and political cadres to stop issuing divisive statements about the late president, and to guarantee protection for the former first lady and her family. “This is not a time for politics. The widow should feel safe, not insulted. A president’s words become policy, and if you stop the cadres, there will be peace,” he said.

Citing Kenya’s example, where former political rivals now work together publicly, Banda appealed for reconciliation and dignity in handling the matter. “It is not too late to do the right thing,” he said. “History is being written in South Africa right now. Let it not be a history of shame for Zambia.”

Former PF deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri says Vice-President Mutale Nalumango is a potential widow who must watch her utterances about the late former president Edgar Lungu.

And Mumbi Phiri says President Hakainde Hichilema would have distanced himself from his Muchinga Province minister Njavwa Simutowe’s celebratory dances and demeaning utterances of “akatumbi kaleisa (the little corpse is coming back home)”, following the South Africa’s High Court judgment in favour of the Zambian government over Lungu’s repatriation dispute.

In an interview yesterday with Daily Revelation in Lusaka, Phiri said she was dismayed at the mockery she had seen and heard from top government

CAF Fines FAZ $5,000 Over Grant’s Press Conference Absence

CAF Fines FAZ $5,000 Over Grant’s Press Conference Absence

By Chansa Kunda

CAF has fined the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) $5,000 after Chipolopolo Head Coach Avram Grant failed to attend a pre-match press conference at the ongoing CHAN tournament.

Grant missed the scheduled media briefing on August 6, 2025, ahead of Chipolopolo’s match against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Although Assistant Coach Moses Sichone and team captain Kabaso Chongo were present for the press conference, the event was ultimately cancelled.

In a statement, the CAF Disciplinary Board said FAZ was found guilty of breaching tournament regulations, which mandate the presence of the Head Coach at official pre-match media briefings.

In his defense, Grant later told journalists during the team’s official training session that he was unable to attend the briefing due to recovering from a cold.

Pastor Kumuyi lashes out at church members asking him to choose a successor and resign

General Superintendent of Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, has cautioned members against what he described as “subtle agitations” over his succession, making it clear that no one can compel him to step aside.

Addressing the congregation during a Bible study session, the 83-year-old cleric recounted how a member had repeatedly preached about the need for a successor. At one point, he asked, “Are you tired of me?”a question that drew a loud “Nooo” from the audience.

Kumuyi criticised remarks by an unnamed young preacher who twice stated that “there is no leadership without a successor.” In response, he said: “I felt that was too much, more so since your father is still here. God will give a successor at His own time.”

Using biblical references, he warned, “You are not going to fight your shepherd, your pilot. I reject any member of the church, whether you are a worker, choir member, or security person, who tries to control me. I won’t even take that from my wife because I am the head of the home. I stand where I stand and nobody will put me under pressure.”

He urged members not to weaken his resolve or mission, adding: “Don’t try to kill my conviction. It will only make me resist you. I will keep on telling you that under your resistance until I go.”

While noting that he often allows many gifted members to preach, Kumuyi maintained that succession “is in the hands of God.” He continued: “If God gives you a pastor that is still very active at this age… and you are asking for a successor, it makes me think you are tired of seeing me around. You don’t want to make me feel I’m imposing myself on you.”

Concluding on a firm note, he declared: “When the time comes, God will choose a man after His own heart. Don’t try to drive me away, even though I know you cannot.”

Trump says ‘severe consequences’ if agreement to end war not reached

0

We have a bit more now from Trump’s comments at the Kennedy Center. The US president took some questions from reporters, who have asked him to comment on Russia and Ukraine.

Trump says there will be “very severe consequences” if Putin doesn’t agree to end the war after Friday’s meeting.

The president adds he has had “good conversations” with Putin, but the goes home and sees that “a rocket hit a nursing home or a rocket hit an apartment building and people are laying dead in the street.”

Another journalist has asked him about reports that Russia has hacked computer systems that manage US federal court documents. Trump said he would be willing to ask Putin about it during their Friday meeting.

“Are you surprised? They hack,” he says.

Second meeting with Putin and Zelenksy is possible – Trump

Trump says that there is a chance of a second meeting with Putin and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, which he says will be “more productive” than the one scheduled for Friday in Alaska.

In the first meeting, “I’m going to find out where we are and what we’re doing,” he says.

Trump adds: “I would like to do it almost immediately, and we’ll have a quick second meeting between President Putin and President Zelensky and myself, if they’d like to have me there.”

Trump says he plans to call Zelensky and other European leaders after Friday’s discussions.

Speaking about his call with European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump says discussions were “very good”.

“I would rate it a 10, very friendly,” says the US president.

Elderly man axed by a woman after he rejecting s33x demand

An 85-year-old caretaker in Kensington sustained serious injuries after being attacked with an axe by a woman who allegedly demanded sex, police confirmed.

The incident occurred around 5 PM on August 10 when the woman, known to the victim, entered his room and made the sexual demand. Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said the elderly man refused, prompting the suspect to grab an axe from the room and strike him on the right side of the neck.

“The complainant sustained a deep cut and reported the matter to the police. An ambulance ferried him to hospital for treatment,” Inspector Msebele said.

Police have appealed for information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect, urging the public to resolve disputes peacefully.

The attack in Kensington follows another violent incident in Kwekwe, where police arrested Thembinkosi Ndlovu, 22, and Nkosinomusa Moyo, 24, for allegedly murdering a 40-year-old woman at a bar after she rejected one of their romantic advances.

According to police reports, the Kwekwe attack occurred on August 10 at Mutegude Shops, Redcliff. The victim, Rosemary Diana, was reportedly assaulted after turning down Moyo’s advances. Ndlovu allegedly struck her multiple times with a cooking stick, while Moyo is accused of stabbing her in the back with a knife, resulting in her death at the scene.

These incidents have raised concerns about public safety and the need for heightened vigilance in the communities.

Former Maid Exposes 3-Year Adulterous Affair With Apostle Talent Chiwenga

Apostle Talent Chiwenga is making headlines for reasons outside his usual sermons and prophecies. His alleged former maid, Tsitsi Chendambuya (31), has publicly claimed they had an affair while his late wife was still alive.

Apostle Talent Chiwenga Accused of Affair
Speaking on the DJ Ollah 7 Podcast, Chendambuya said the two were intimate “countless times,” often in the family home. She claimed the encounters happened either when the Apostle’s late wife was away or asleep. According to her, he would sometimes sneak into her room at night, saying he rarely slept for long hours.

“Even in the house. Sometimes anogona kunge aripo, sometimes anogona kunge asipo. Zvaiwanzoitika manheru anenge arara, then he would come to my room. He is someone asingarare I think inyaya yehutano. Anotora time asingarare. Anozongorara a few hours. He spends more time akagara,” Tsitsi said.

How it Started and How Long it Lasted
Chendambuya described their first encounter as taking place while the Apostle’s wife was not at home, but didn’t go into details.

“Yes, it happened in the house. She wasn’t there,” she alleged.

Tsitsi Chendambuya also alleged that during their relationship, he hinted at marriage and expressed regret that they hadn’t met before he wed his late wife. She suggested he may have considered taking her as a second wife.

“He told me that, ‘I wish dai ndakasangana newe kudhara’. Maybe he wanted to have two wives, I don’t know,” she added.

She said the alleged affair lasted for three years, from 2017 until 2020, slowing down after Chiwenga relocated to South Africa. Chendambuya claimed she occasionally visited him there.

The interview has sparked debate online. Some questioned why Chendambuya would publicly share such personal and damaging claims, while others dismissed the story as false or politically motivated. A few argued it might be part of a broader effort to tarnish the church leader’s reputation.

Here are some of the comments:

@Chofamba:

Who goes on a popular podcast to expose their own adulterous affair? Especially when they’re not doing so out of penitence but rather, even revelling in the saucy revelations! What incentive drives a person to parade their own moral indiscretions in this manner? What’s the payout from all this? Or are they being paid by others to do so? 🤔

@TTMambeu:

That’s a fake story right there. Very fake!

@tnnyamu:

They failed to kill him; now they want to discredit him with blatantly false allegations. Shame on this podcast for looking for content like this.

@2022TheRidge:

I’m surprised kune varikuti she’s lying. Ini, I can never vouch for a fellow man akapomerwa mhosva, we are guilty until proven innocent 😅

“Political frustration may be driving Usi’ attacks on Chakwera government”-Analyst

0

Political analyst Chimwemwe Tsitsi has suggested that Michael Usi’s recent outspoken criticism of the Tonse Alliance government may be driven by political frustration particularly over his exclusion from the running mate position in the upcoming 2025 elections.

Speaking to The Maravi Post on Wednesday, August 13, Tsitsi noted that Usi’s sudden change in tone could reflect disappointment at not being selected for the role.

“Usi has abruptly begun criticizing the administration, possibly out of frustration for being overlooked.

“It’s likely he was positioning himself for the role during his earlier rallies, before the running mates were officially announced,” Tsitsi observes.

Usi, who formerly served as Minister of Tourism and Vice President of the UTM Party, has in recent weeks intensified his criticism of the Tonse Alliance, sparking speculation about his political motives and next move.

Tsitsi also warned against any attempts to suppress Usi’s voice through intimidation or legal action, cautioning that such moves could backfire and harm the government’s credibility.

“Any threats or attempts to arrest him must be backed by clear legal justification,” he said.

“Taking such action now, while he is vocally challenging the administration, could be perceived as politically motivated and might erode public trust in the government’s commitment to justice and transparency.”

As political tensions rise ahead of the 2025 general elections, observers have called on the government to handle dissent with restraint and integrity, emphasizing the need to uphold democratic values and the rule of law.

Meanwhile, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) spokesperson Jessie Kabwila has called on Usi to resign from his position as UTM Vice President, citing a conflict between his role and his recent public criticisms of the administration.

South Africa Slams US State Department Over “Deeply Flawed” Human Rights Report

South Africa Rejects US State Department’s “Deeply Flawed” Report On Human Rights Practices
South Africa has issued a blistering response to the US State Department’s 2024 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices, dismissing it as a “deeply flawed” and “inaccurate” portrayal of the nation’s human rights record. The strongly worded rebuttal, released by the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) on 12 August 2025, accuses the report of relying on outdated, decontextualised information while ignoring South Africa’s robust constitutional protections and independent oversight mechanisms.

“A Premature and Misleading Account” – DIRCO Slams Report’s Methodology
DIRCO spokesperson Chrispin Phiri took particular issue with the report’s characterisation of a high-profile farmworker case, which the US document allegedly framed as an “extrajudicial killing” despite the matter still being before South African courts.

“The report selectively presents a tragic incident involving farmworkers as evidence of systemic human rights violations, while completely disregarding the fact that the accused are currently undergoing trial in our independent judiciary,” Phiri stated. “This is not just premature – it’s a fundamental misrepresentation of South Africa’s legal processes.”

The ministry also challenged the report’s treatment of police conduct, arguing that it failed to acknowledge the country’s extensive accountability measures, including investigations by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) and oversight from the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC).

“Stark Hypocrisy” – DIRCO Highlights US’s Own Human Rights Record
In a pointed counterargument, DIRCO contrasted the US report with recent assessments from the United Nations Human Rights Office, which in June 2025 praised South Africa’s Land Expropriation Act as a “necessary corrective measure” to address historical injustices.

“It’s ironic that a country which has withdrawn from the UN Human Rights Council, thereby exempting itself from multilateral scrutiny, would presume to lecture others,” Phiri remarked. “This is particularly striking given well-documented concerns about migrant detention conditions, police brutality, and systemic racism within the United States itself.”

The statement referenced several international reports, including Amnesty International’s 2024 findings on US immigration practices and the UN’s criticisms of excessive force by American law enforcement.

Transparency Push – South Africa to Release Counter-Dossier
To address what it calls “factual inaccuracies” in the US report, DIRCO announced plans to publish a comprehensive response dossier within the coming week. This document will include:

  • Verified statistics on human rights protections from South Africa’s Chapter 9 institutions
  • Comparative analyses of human rights indicators between South Africa and the US
  • Case studies demonstrating the country’s judicial independence

“We encourage the public to review primary sources like the SAHRC’s annual reports and fact-checks from reputable agencies,” Phiri said, directing attention to an AFP investigation that debunked claims of “farm genocide” in South Africa.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to international human rights standards while maintaining that any critique should be “evidence-based and contextually informed.” Diplomatic channels remain open for further discussion, but DIRCO’s statement leaves no doubt about South Africa’s rejection of the report’s conclusions.

ActionSA deploys MPs to monitor National Dialogue

ActionSA deploys MPs to monitor National Dialogue

ActionSA will not participate formally in the National Dialogue convention set for August 15–17, opting instead to send two MPs Dr Kgosi Letlape and Lerato Ngobeni to observe and assess proceedings.

Parliamentary Leader Athol Trollip said the party’s concerns include a lack of transparency, insufficient parliamentary oversight over the R750 million budget, and fears the event could be a government-controlled exercise.

The dialogue, championed by President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Government of National Unity, seeks to unite stakeholders in tackling poverty, inequality, and unemployment. Yet, withdrawals by groups like the Thabo Mbeki and Kgalema Motlanthe Foundations have fueled doubts about its credibility.

Observers say the event’s success will hinge on whether it delivers tangible solutions or becomes, as critics warn, an expensive talk shop.

Putin has signed a decree prohibiting the use of foreign-made military uniforms

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree prohibiting the use of foreign-made military uniforms for the Russian Armed Forces from January 1, 2026, with a further requirement that all fabrics and materials be sourced domestically from 2027.

The decree, dated and signed on August 11, directs the Russian government, Ministry of Defense, and Ministry of Industry and Trade to ensure that all clothing and equipment for the armed forces are manufactured by Russian companies operating within the country. By 2027, the materials used must also be produced on Russian soil.

It remains unclear whether the ban will extend to close allies such as Belarus and Kazakhstan, both members of the same free trade bloc. The countries currently supplying Russian military uniforms have not been officially disclosed, though Radio Free Asia previously reported that North Korea provided uniforms as recently as late 2022.

According to that report, Russia supplied materials to North Korea, where the uniforms were produced in Pyongyang factories before being shipped back to Russia by rail. The two countries later signed a mutual defense treaty in 2024, expanding military and trade cooperation, with Pyongyang supplying troops, weapons, and munitions to support Moscow’s war in Ukraine in exchange for resources and technological assistance.

It is not yet known whether North Korea has continued supplying uniforms since 2022 or if the new decree will affect trade between the two nations.

Elon Musk has accused Apple of violating antitrust laws and threatened legal action

The worlds richest man, Elon Musk has accused Apple of violating antitrust laws and threatened legal action over the way his X social media platform and Grok artificial intelligence tool are ranked in the iPhone maker’s App Store.

The billionaire claimed Apple’s policies make it “impossible” for any AI company other than OpenAI — led by Sam Altman — to secure top rankings, calling the practice “an unequivocal antitrust violation.”

Musk said his xAI business, which develops Grok and owns X, “will take immediate legal action.” He also alleged the App Store refused to feature X or Grok in its “Must Have” section.

Currently, OpenAI’s ChatGPT holds the top spot among free App Store downloads, while Grok ranks sixth.

Altman pushed back on Musk’s claims in a post on X, writing:

“This is a remarkable claim given what I have heard alleged that Elon does to manipulate X to benefit himself and his own companies.”

The dispute adds to Musk’s ongoing public feuds — including clashes with Altman and former U.S. president Donald Trump. Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 but left in 2018, later becoming a frequent critic.

Apple is already under regulatory pressure over its App Store policies. Earlier this year, the European Union fined the company €500mn for antitrust violations, accusing it of blocking developers from directing users to offers outside its platform.

Both Grok and ChatGPT have recently released updated AI models, though some early adopters have expressed disappointment over the scale of improvements.

Someone wants me out of PSG – goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma announces exit on social media

2025 Champions League winning goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma has revealed that “someone” at Paris Saint-Germain wants him out of the club, confirming his departure after a turbulent season.

The 26-year-old Italy international, who won Euro 2020 and joined PSG in 2021, has been locked in a contract dispute with the French champions. With just one year remaining on his deal, the club is now expected to sell him, with Chelsea and both Manchester clubs reportedly interested in bringing him to the Premier League.

On Tuesday night, Donnarumma announced on Instagram that he would be leaving PSG, expressing disappointment over how the decision was made.

“From the first day I arrived, I gave everything – on and off the pitch – to earn my place and defend the goal of Paris Saint-Germain. Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the team’s success. I am disappointed and disheartened… Playing for this club and living in this city has been an immense honour. Thank you, Paris.”

The goalkeeper also thanked PSG fans for their support and his teammates for their camaraderie, describing them as his “second family.”

Earlier, PSG head coach Luis Enrique confirmed he had personally decided to leave Donnarumma out of the squad for Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur in Udine.

“Donnarumma is out of the squad as it’s my own decision,” Enrique said. “I want a different kind of goalkeeper and I made this decision. Gigio is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. The life of a top-level footballer—and the same goes for coaches—is like this: it wasn’t an easy decision but I take full responsibility.”

Donnarumma’s exit will end a four-year spell in Paris that saw him win multiple domestic titles and the Champions League, but also face stiff competition for the No. 1 spot and occasional criticism for high-profile errors.

Villarreal president responds to backlash over Thomas Partey signing as he faces multiple r@pe charges

Villarreal’s president has responded to the criticism his club has faced since signing former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey amid his ongoing r@pe charges.

Partey, 32, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court last week to face multiple r@pe charges, including five counts of rape and one of sexual assault, before being granted bail.

The midfielder is accused of two counts of rape against one woman and three counts against another. The s£xual ass@ult allegation relates to a third woman, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said last week.

The charges came just four days after Partey’s contract at the Emirates expired on June 31.

After being granted bail, the Ghanaian was able to complete his free transfer to Villarreal, who have since been the subject of significant controversy as a result of the move.

Partey was booed and whistled during the Yellow Submarines’ preseason friendly against Aston Villa over the weekend, which marked his first appearance in a Villarreal jersey.

Club president Fernando Roig has issued a response over the criticism, insisting that the club ‘upholds the presumption of innocence’.

‘The player is currently undergoing legal proceedings. He maintains his innocence and denies the charges against him,’ Roig said after the 2-0 defeat by Villa.

‘The club upholds the presumption of innocence, and it will be the responsibility of the English courts to clarify the facts. We have spent years demonstrating our values with all kinds of activities.

‘We respect the presumption of innocence and, of course, condemn any type of violence, whether inside or outside of football.

‘At this moment, Partey is as innocent as the rest of us here. A fundamental right like this must be respected.’

When asked about the boos directed towards his new player, Roig added:

‘The English [Aston Villa fans] whistled Partey. Not the Villarreal fans.

‘I wouldn’t like our own fans to whistle at players on our team. We must stand with the team and respect the presumption of innocence. He is not a convicted player.

‘We must be cautious and wait for justice. Let’s not judge prematurely. Thomas has the right to do his job until there is a conviction.’

Partey, who will defend himself in court in London next month, is prohibited from contacting any of the three women involved in the case, as per the bail conditions.

Zelensky `has lost this war’ – Hungarian leader Viktor Orbán

Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán has opined that Ukraine has lost the war against Russia, as he looked ahead to a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has lost this war,” he said in an interview published by far-right conservative news site mandiner.hu on Wednesday, August 13.

“The Ukrainians have lost this war, Russia has won the war.”

“We are talking like this was a situation of war with an open end,” the Hungarian leader said, adding that this assessment was false.

Orbán, who has repeatedly vetoed EU sanctions on Russia over the war in Ukraine, claimed that Kiev would not capitulate as long as it was being supplied with weapons and funds by Western partners.

“Otherwise this war would have been over long ago,” the right-wing politician said.

On Tuesday, Hungary declined to sign a joint statement by its 26 fellow European Union allies welcoming efforts by Trump to end Russia’s war on Ukraine.

The statement demanded that Ukraine’s territorial integrity be ensured, saying that “international borders must not be changed by force.”

Orbán justified his government’s refusal to back the declaration, claiming it attempted to set conditions for negotiations to which EU leaders were not even invited. The bilateral meeting between Trump and Putin, set to take place in Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday, has sparked fears in Kyiv and the rest of Europe.

The two leaders could strike an agreement that would force Ukraine into making territorial concessions, a move that Zelensky has categorically ruled out.

Orbán, on a Facebook post, said it was sad enough that the EU has been pushed to the sidelines.

“The only thing worse will be if we were giving instructions from the sidelines,” he wrote.

Noah Centineo has been announced as the new Rambo in the upcoming 2026 film

Noah Centineo has been announced as the new Rambo in the upcoming 2026 film directed by Kitao Sakurai, taking over a role originally made iconic by Sylvester Stallone.

The news comes over 30 years after Rambo: First Blood first premiered, with Stallone co-writing the film and starring as John Rambo. Centineo, 29, who gained prominence with his role as Jesus Adams Foster in The Fosters and later as Peter Kavinsky in the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before films, will portray Rambo during the Vietnam War.

New Rambo star revealed and it?s not who actor Sylvester Stallone wanted for the role

Centineo has also appeared in Sierra Burgess Is a Loser and as Camila Cabello’s love interest in her hit single Havana featuring Young Thug. His personal life has been in the spotlight, including previous relationships with Stassie Karanikolaou and Sports Illustrated model Alexis Ren.

Noah Centineo

Filming is expected to begin in early 2026 in Thailand. While Stallone has been made aware of the project, he is not directly involved. He had previously expressed a different vision for Rambo’s successor, telling The Tonight Show: “I met [Ryan Gosling] at a dinner and obviously we’re opposites. He’s good-looking, I’m not. That’s how it works. But he goes, ‘I was fascinated by Rambo, and I used to go to school dressed as Rambo and people would chase me away and I still didn’t stop’. He just kept saying that he had a lot of affiliation with Rambo, and I thought, this is interesting. If I ever pass the baton, I’ll pass it on to him because he loves the character.”

Centineo’s casting signals a new direction for the franchise, introducing a younger actor to carry the legacy of the iconic soldier while maintaining the character’s connection to its action-packed origins.

He says “Putin is bluffing, he’s trying to trying to push all over the front line”, and adds Russia is pretending it can occupy the whole of Ukraine.

He used the meeting today to tell Trump and European leaders that Putin doesn’t “want peace”, and Zelensky says they understand his position.

“Putin cannot fool us,” he adds. The Ukrainian President says Trump has said he will contact Zelensky after his meeting with Putin on Friday.

American teen pilot Ethan Guo stranded in Antarctica after unauthorized landing

American teen influencer and aspiring aviation record-breaker Ethan Guo has been stranded in Antarctica since June after landing his small plane without authorization in Chilean territory.

The 19-year-old, who set out to become the youngest person to fly solo to all seven continents while raising funds for childhood cancer research, is now facing an unexpected pause in his ambitious journey.

Authorities allege that Guo provided false flight plan information to officials, claiming he would only fly over Punta Arenas in southern Chile.

Instead, he continued south in his Cessna 182Q light aircraft, eventually landing at the Lieutenant Rodolfo Marsh Base in Chile’s Antarctic territory.

Prosecutors charged him on June 29 with providing false information to ground control and making an unauthorized landing.

On Monday, a Chilean judge dropped the charges as part of an agreement between prosecutors and Guo’s lawyers.

The terms require Guo to donate $30,000 to a children’s cancer foundation within 30 days to avoid trial.

He must also leave Chile as soon as weather conditions allow and is banned from entering the country for the next three years.

Speaking after the ruling, Guo expressed relief at the outcome, saying he hoped to resume his original mission as soon as possible.

For the past six weeks, the teen pilot has been staying at a military base in Antarctica, where he has been allowed to move freely within Chilean territory but unable to leave due to severe winter weather.

He has also been unable to fly his plane, with Chilean prosecutors stating that the aircraft “does not have the capabilities to make a flight,” though no further details were given.

Guo said he is in discussions with his lawyer to explore the possibility of departing with his aircraft.

In the meantime, he remains in Antarctica awaiting approval for his departure flight.

The agreement also requires him to cover all expenses related to his personal upkeep and aircraft security during his stay, as well as the full cost of his return journey.

Guo insisted that his focus remains on completing his record-setting flight and continuing his mission to raise funds for childhood cancer research.

He stressed that he hopes to be granted permission to leave soon so both he and his aircraft can continue the journey they began.

Trump to tell Putin ‘all options on table’ as Russian sanctions threatened

Ahead of this afternoon’s meeting between leaders in Europe, Donald Trump’s Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has been speaking about the president’s meeting with Putin this weekend.

He tells Bloomsberg TV that “everyone has been frustrated with Putin”, but suggests that now “it looks like he may be ready to negotiate”.

“The president is the best at creating leverage for himself, and he will make it clear to president Putin that all options are on the table,” he explains.

But, Bessent warns that if talks don’t go as planned, “then sanctions or secondary tariffs could go up”.

And he reiterates that Europe needs to be willing to also put secondary sanctions on Russia.

“We need the Europeans to come in and help create more leverage,” he explains.

South Korea’s former first lady Begins Jail Term in Solitary with Mattress

0

South Korea’s former first lady, Kim Keon Hee, began her first day in jail today at the Seoul Nambu Detention Center, a modern facility on the western edge of the capital. She faces allegations of bribery, stock fraud, and influence peddling, with a court approving her arrest late Tuesday over concerns she might tamper with evidence.

Kim’s cell, similar to that of her husband, former President Yoon Suk Yeol, includes a floor mattress, a small table for meals and writing, and access to a shared shower room. A source familiar with the matter said Kim will receive minor adjustments to her routine due to her high-profile status, including staggered outdoor exercise time to avoid other inmates.

Kim’s lawyers have rejected the accusations, dismissing claims about gifts allegedly received for favours as baseless. Last week, Kim apologised publicly, describing herself as “a nobody” during questioning.

Unlike Kim, Yoon, who has been detained for about 100 days at the Seoul Detention Center south of the capital, faces charges of insurrection over a failed martial law attempt, which he denies.

The couple’s legal troubles mark a dramatic fall for the once-prominent pair, as prosecutors deepen their investigation.

‘I protected this land… for what?’ – former Ukrainian soldier from Donetsk

Former soldier Yevhen Shibalov, from the eastern city of Donetsk, says he feels “triggered” hearing leaders discuss exchanging territories.

“I protected this land and these people… for what? Just to betray them with a political manoeuvre?” Shibalov tells BBC Newsday.

Trump has said any peace deal would involve “some swapping of territories” and it is believed one of Putin’s demands is that Kyiv surrenders the parts of the Donbas it still controls, which includes Donetsk.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected any prospect of giving up the Donbas region.

“These areas are not desert or no-mans-land, there are thousands of people,” Shibalov says.

The former soldier says Donetsk is now facing a “humanitarian crisis” – citing a water shortage and high unemployment.

Back in 2012 the city was “pretty much European… with modern infrastructure, business opportunities and well-educated young people,” he tells the programme. “All of this has been lost in the past 11 years,” Shibalov adds.

After Russia seized Crimea in 2014, its proxy forces captured more than a third of Ukraine’s east.

Trump hits back at those who say ‘Putin has already won’

It’s just over an hour until Trump is due to dial into a virtual meeting with Zelensky and other European leaders about the war in Ukraine.

But he’s already addressing the topic in posts on his platform Truth Social.

In his most recent message, the US president defends his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, taking place in Alaska.

He takes aim at journalists who, according to Trump, say: “Even though the meeting is on American soil, ‘Putin has already won.'”

“What’s that all about?” Trump questions.

“We are winning on EVERYTHING. The Fake News is working overtime,” he writes. “But it doesn’t matter because we are winning on everything!!!”

KABESHA WAS WRONG TO SAY THE STATE CAN BURRY WITHOUT THE FAMILY – Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ)

KABESHA WAS WRONG TO SAY THE STATE CAN BURRY WITHOUT THE FAMILY – EFZ

Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) Board Chairperson, Paul Mususu, has described as “brutal” the statement by Attorney General, Mulilo Kabesha, that the State could proceed to bury late former President Edgar Lungu without the participation of his family.

Bishop Mususu said government must continue engaging the family, despite the courts ruling that the body be repatriated to Zambia.

Speaking when he featured on Radio Christian Voice’s Chatback program on the topic “Role of the Church in the ECL Burial Impasse,” Bishop Mususu stressed that it would be immoral for the State to proceed with the burial without the family’s involvement.

“Regardless of the court’s judgment on Friday or any other date, dialogue must continue,” said Bishop Mususu.

The Board Chair also expressed sadness over the level of mockery by some Zambians regarding the burial dispute, urging citizens to uphold the nation’s cultural values.

He said that there is need for Zambians to go back to the tradition of respecting the dead and resolving disputes after burial.

ZAMBIA’S ATTORNEY GENERAL SEEKS COURT APPROVAL TO INSPECT BODY OF FORMER PRESIDENT LUNGU IN SOUTH AFRICA

ZAMBIA’S ATTORNEY GENERAL SEEKS COURT APPROVAL TO INSPECT BODY OF FORMER PRESIDENT LUNGU IN SOUTH AFRICA

A controversial legal development is unfolding in South Africa as Zambia’s Attorney General has reportedly filed an application in the Pretoria High Court seeking permission to inspect the body of former Zambian President Edgar Chagwa Lungu. This move has sparked political and emotional tension, particularly among the late president’s family and supporters.

According to reports by CIC Media, a platform known to be aligned with Zambia’s ruling United Party for National Development (UPND), the Attorney General, acting on behalf of President Hakainde Hichilema’s government, submitted the application as part of what is being described as an official inquiry or verification process.

The reasons behind the request for inspection have not been made fully public. However, sources suggest that the government may be seeking to verify certain forensic or legal matters relating to the late president’s death or identity. The application is said to be listed in the schedule of the Pretoria High Court.

President Lungu, who passed away under circumstances that have yet to be officially clarified, has been a figure of both reverence and controversy in Zambia’s recent political history. His death occurred in South Africa, where he had reportedly been receiving medical treatment.

The Lungu family has expressed strong opposition to the Zambian government’s involvement in any posthumous proceedings, citing the late president’s own wishes. A family spokesperson stated that President Lungu “did not want the current administration, particularly President Hichilema, involved in any way with his remains.”

“The family has made it clear that they are not in support of any attempt by the state to interfere with the dignity and peace of President Lungu’s final journey,” the spokesperson said.

Political analysts say the move could further deepen tensions between the ruling UPND and the Patriotic Front (PF), Lungu’s party, which has accused the current government of political persecution.

South African legal experts note that any such inspection would require judicial oversight, particularly if it involves the handling of human remains, and the High Court is expected to deliberate on the matter with caution.

At the time of writing, the Zambian government has not issued an official statement regarding the application, and the matter remains before the court.

This story continues to develop.

7. To avoid diplomatic misunderstandings
Proper verification will prevent unnecessary disputes between Zambia and South Africa.

8. To put an end to conspiracy theories
Once confirmed, there will be no space for rumours about his whereabouts or condition.

9. To safeguard national security
High-profile figures require extra caution to prevent any foul play or mistaken identity.

10. To honour his service
A leader who served the nation deserves a clear and dignified process from death to burial.

CONCOURT GRANTS GOVERNANCE ACTIVIST ISAAC MWANZA APPLICATION TO DISCONTINUE PETITION AGAINST EARLIER COURT JUDGEMENT ON BILL 7

CONCOURT GRANTS GOVERNANCE ACTIVIST ISAAC MWANZA APPLICATION TO DISCONTINUE PETITION AGAINST EARLIER COURT JUDGEMENT ON BILL 7

The Constitutional Court yesterday, 12th August 2025, granted an application by governance activist Isaac Mwanza to discontinue his petition against the court’s earlier judgment halting Bill 7.

Mr. Mwanza had commenced his action challenging the court’s 27th June 2025 decision, which declared the constitutional amendment process unconstitutional due to a lack of the requisite wide consultation.

His case was contested by another petition filed by other petitioners, represented by Messrs Simeza Sangwa & Associates and Messrs Joseph Chirwa & Company, seeking to have Mr. Mwanza’s petition stayed until their own matter was heard.

During a case management hearing on 25th July 2025 before Judges Musaluke, Chisunka, and Mulife, the court ordered that the two petitions be consolidated as they arose from the same facts.

In a surprise turn of events, Mr. Mwanza applied to discontinue his petition. As there was no objection from the respondents’ lawyers, the court granted the application.

Peter Mutharika officially pulls out of campaign over health, Insists to contest

In a dramatic twist just weeks before Malawi heads to the polls, opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) president and presidential candidate Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika (APM) has officially confirmed he will not be able to take part in campaign activities for the 16 September General Elections due to ongoing health challenges.

Party spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba made the announcement on Tuesday, stating that the 86-year-old former president’s medical condition makes it impossible for him to endure the physically demanding schedule of a national campaign.

“This decision has been made on medical advice. The president will not be participating in rallies, whistle-stop tours, or other strenuous campaign activities,” Namalomba said.

However, Namalomba has insisted that Mutharika will still go ahead to be on the ballot despite what he called “this small hitch to the campaign”.

The announcement has been long expected and has confirmed what Malawians have been fearing since the start of the campaign.

But, political analyst Dr. Aphraim Zainab described the development as a “major strategic disaster” for the opposition DPP.

“Campaign visibility is everything in a race this close,” observes.

He added: “Without Mutharika physically on the trail, the DPP will struggle to project leadership, energy, and connection with voters.

“This is the exact scenario some within the party feared when some officials insisted on his candidacy despite health concerns.”

With just over a month until Malawians head to the polls, the DPP is scrambling to salvage its ground campaign.

Senior party figures are now expected to lead rallies, but observers say no other DPP leader would command Mutharika’s personal following.

The decision marks one of the most consequential turning points of the 2025 race.

For the DPP, it could mean fighting a two-front battle, against an energized MCP and against growing doubts within its own base on whether it chose the right candidate in the first place.

Since the launch of its manifesto and campaign, APM has been quite and absent on the campaign trail with Malawians asking where the old man is and why, if he is fit as earlier claimed by the DPP, he was not on the campaign trail but relying on party officials to do the leg work.

UPND MEMBER URGES PRESIDENT HICHILEMA TO DROP CASES AGAINST LUNGU FAMILY

UPND MEMBER URGES PRESIDENT HICHILEMA TO DROP CASES AGAINST LUNGU FAMILY

United Party for National Development UPND member and aspiring Chawama Member of Parliament, Morgan Muunda, has appealed to President Hakainde Hichilema and Director of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri to consider entering a nolle prosequi in the ongoing court cases involving former President Edgar Lungu’s family.

Muunda argued that the former First Lady, Esther Lungu, is a humble widow who recently lost her husband and should be allowed time to mourn.

He claimed that the Lungu family has remained silent throughout and that it is individuals surrounding them who are making demands.

He further stated that the former First Lady is willing to contribute to the country but should be allowed to rest, emphasizing that she does not deserve to face prosecution.

UPND has done nothing since it assumed power – Kalaba

UPND has done nothing since it assumed power – Kalaba

CITIZENS First president Harry Kalaba says the United Party for National Development (UPND) has failed to deliver on its promises since taking over the reins of power in 2021.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1MDyHT5jyN/

In an interview, Kalaba could not point at anything tangible to commend saying that the ruling party has only succeeded in failing.

The UPND will on 24th August, 2025 mark its fifth anniversary in government.

Kalaba said he could not even attempt to rate the party’s performance because, in his view, it had achieved nothing worth assessing.

“I can’t rate the performance of the UPND. It’s difficult for me to rate their performance because the UPND has literally done nothing from the time that they got elected. They talk too much,” he said.

“For me to even begin rating is very unfair to the process of rating. They have failed the people of Zambia.”

Kalaba noted agricultural challenges as one of the clearest examples of government’s failure, citing the plight of farmers who have been unable to sell their maize at fair prices.

“People are struggling to sell their maize, every sector of the economy is bleeding,” he said.

“Even those who invented the process of rating would be upset with me if I placed the UPND anywhere on the scale. The only thing these people have succeeded in doing is failing.”

Despite the revamping of bigger mines such as Konkola Copper Mines and Mopani, the opposition leader said that under the UPND, had seen no meaningful improvement and that the cost of living continued to weigh heavily on households.

The UPND rose to power in August 2021 after defeating the Patriotic Front in a landslide victory, riding on a wave of public expectation for economic reform, job creation, and lower living costs.
