However, delivery of the judgment has been adjourned to 8 August 2025.
The Mongu High Court had scheduled Friday 1st August 2025 as the date to deliver judgment in the case of alleged shooting of a UPND Cadre in Mulobezi By-election that took place in 2015.
In November 2024, Hon. Justice J. H. Mbuzi found Davies Chama, first accused person and Brian Dumisani Nyoni, the second accused person with a case to answer and put them on their defence.
The two accused persons are charged with one count of Acts intended to Cause Grievous Harm contrary to Section 224(a) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Hon. Davies Chama was the former Patriotic Front Secretary General and former Minister of Defence.
The particulars of offence were that Hon. Davies Chama and Brian Dumisani Nyoni on 6th June,2015 at Mulobezi in the Mulobezi District of the Western Province of Zambia jointly and whilst acting together, with intent to maim, disfigure or disable did wound Mushaukwa Mushaukwa.

He is very well, spends time reading and writing.
He has recently suffered tragedy following the loss of his wife, Mwamba Kambikambi and his father, John Chilangwa.
Former Pambashe MP, Hon. Ronald Chitotela is also doing well.
However former Kawambwa Council Chairperson, Kalumba Chifumbe has been struggling as his cardiac condition has detoriarated and has caused serious concerns to the family.
It should be noted that although the accused persons are entilted to bail pending appeal, this has been denied as part of a lawfare scheme by President Hakainde Hichilema.
Others denied bail pending appeal include Francis Muchemwa, former Kabushi MP, Hon. Bowman Lusambo and former Lumezi MP, Hon. Munir Zulu.
Our strong appeal remains firm, President Hichilema must desist from interfering with the Judiciary and must allow persons to enjoy their due constitutional rights and protection, and allow the persons jailed to be granted bail pending appeal.
The case of the serious medical status of Kalumba Chifumbe, who needs specialized medical treatment, requires urgent attention and resolution

There are a few opposition “idiots” who think they can go it alone in 2026 – Muhabi
Zambia We Want spokesperson Muhabi Lungu has denounced what he described as the collective “stupidity” of the opposition, and some opposition “idiots” who insist on going it alone despite the existential threat the ruling UPND poses to the country.
And Lungu said going by his curriculum vitae (CV), he was highly qualified but was not going round projecting himself to be president.
In an interview with Daily Revelation yesterday, Lungu decried what he felt was the inability by those in the opposition to come to terms that they were facing an entrenched group in the UPND, whose interest was to win at all cost and by any means. He said it was amazing that those in the opposition

“BETRAYAL OF A NATION: GOVT GIVES AWAY COPPER, KILLS ECONOMIC HOPE!”
In a fiery and emotionally charged statement, Democratic Union President Ackim Anthony Njobvu has launched a blistering attack on the government following the controversial enactment of Statutory Instrument No. 47 of 2025, which exempts mining companies from paying export taxes on copper concentrates.
Njobvu did not mince words, calling the move “a profound betrayal” of the Zambian people and a “white-collar corruption scandal of monumental proportions.” He accused the Ministry of Finance of effectively handing over the nation’s wealth to foreign interests while ordinary citizens are drowning in debt and economic despair.
“This is a death sentence to Zambia’s hopes of economic liberation,” Njobvu stated. “We are giving away our value, our future, and our very sovereignty. We’ve spoken endlessly about the need to process our raw materials domestically, but instead, we are watching the same government dismantle that vision piece by piece.”
The Statutory Instrument, signed into law by the Minister of Finance last week, has sparked outrage among economic watchdogs, opposition figures, and civil society organizations. Critics argue that the decision reverses years of advocacy for beneficiation and undermines Zambia’s industrialization agenda.
Njobvu went a step further by suggesting the nation is under a dangerous form of state capture, claiming the Minister is “not exercising his free will,” and implying that powerful, hidden interests are dictating national policy. “This isn’t just economic mismanagement it’s economic sabotage,” he declared.
The Democratic Union President also turned his attention to Parliament, demanding immediate action to reverse the legislation. “Where is our Parliament? Where are our MPs? Where are the gatekeepers in government? Where are the men of this country?” he asked in a sharp rebuke, calling for national resistance and urgent political accountability.
“This is not leadership it is servitude to global extractive giants. And I will not be silent while this betrayal continues,” Njobvu warned.
The tone of his statement has rattled political circles, with many observers predicting an intensification of opposition pressure in the coming weeks. Sources within several political parties say backroom meetings have already begun to strategize responses to what is now being seen as a critical test of the UPND government’s economic stewardship.
Economic analysts have also expressed concern, noting that the tax waiver comes at a time when Zambia is grappling with ballooning foreign debt, a depreciating kwacha, and a widening budget deficit. “To remove export duties at such a time is not only reckless—it’s self-destructive,” one analyst said.
As pressure mounts, the Ministry of Finance has yet to offer a detailed explanation for the SI’s timing or its long-term implications. Meanwhile, the Zambian public is left wondering whether the country’s vast mineral wealth will ever truly benefit its people.
With national sentiment hardening, Njobvu’s final words echoed the frustration of many citizens: “My spirit has been provoked. We must rise and reclaim what is rightfully ours.”
Following the Death of Edgar Lungu, Tonse Alliance Faces Renewed Pressure to Chart Leadership Roadmap
The death of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has sent shockwaves across Zambia’s political landscape, with members of the Tonse Alliance and broader opposition urgently calling for a clear leadership roadmap to fill the void left by the late leader.
The conversation, sparked in a prominent WhatsApp group comprising political figures, civil society actors, and party loyalists, quickly turned into a passionate debate on the future of the opposition coalition. The Tonse Alliance, which had initially endorsed President Lungu as its preferred candidate for the 2026 elections, is now faced with an urgent leadership crisis.
“We had earlier endorsed President Edgar Chagwa Lungu as our preferred candidate. However, our prayer now is to urgently endorse and present an alternative candidate,” said a key Tonse coordinator, during the chat.
While some members pushed for a quick and simple endorsement process, others insisted on structural reforms and clarity around the role of individual parties within the alliance. “Alliance is to endorse a candidate and agree on policy… it’s that simple,” wrote one member, warning against unnecessary bureaucracy and party superiority narratives
The debate reignited tensions about the so-called “anchor party” concept, with some members rejecting the idea of one party (such as PF) sponsoring the Tonse presidential candidate. “The idea of an anchor party is what Sean Tembo and others are disputing,” noted political commentator and political activist. “It’s nowhere written in the Tonse Constitution.”
Some contributors called for humility and unity within PF itself, criticizing the internal infighting that has weakened the party’s image. “PF should start learning to act as a big brother, otherwise with the confusing talk, this may never happen,” one participant noted.
A consensus emerged around three potential presidential candidates: Brian Mundubile, Harry Kalaba, and Fred M’membe. “Tonse race is among Mundubile, M’membe & Kalaba. The three have to be sincere about who can be a good candidate,” one member stated. Another added, “Zambians are ready to vote HH out; what they want is a united opposition and a credible face.”
The group also touched on concerns over government interference, judicial delays, and tribal politics, all of which were seen as distractions from the main goal building a formidable opposition coalition.
Mwanza urged pragmatism: “Tonse needs to choose its own leader perhaps Mundubile who seems to command much support in recent polls—and then negotiate with others like Kalaba and M’membe. You can’t just wake up in 2026 with a new face and expect to defeat HH.”
The pressure is now on the Tonse Alliance to reorganize, regroup, and realign behind a new, united leadership one capable of harnessing the nation’s appetite for change.
News Diggers managing editor Joseph Mwenda has been mentioned in the ongoing custody battle in which award-winning artiste Elton Mulenga, popularly known as Yo Maps, is seeking full custody of his daughter, Bukata.
Mulenga has submitted to the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court that his ex-partner, Prudence Nakamba, is currently living with Mr Mwenda, whom he believes to be her husband based on conversations he has had with him.
This revelation is contained in court documents where Mulenga is applying for a variation of a previous court order concerning child maintenance.
Nakamba filed a child support lawsuit in 2022, demanding financial support from Mulenga. Since then, Mulenga has been sending money regularly for their child’s upkeep.
However, Mulenga now argues that he should be granted primary custody of Bukata, assuring the court that she would be safe and well cared for under his care.
He is married to Kidist and states in his submission that they have a dedicated house help who assists with childcare
“The helper who comes every day is dedicated to Tendai, and the desire is that if the court grants me primary custody, this helper will be dedicated to my two daughters,” he submitted.
“She is a sophisticated helper who is well-articulated, and in the absence of me and my wife, she will be able to tend to the children,” he added.
Mulenga further complains that despite complying with court orders and consistently sending child support, Nakamba has allegedly been denying him access to see his daughter, prompting him to seek the court’s intervention.
In his latest filings, Mulenga argues that Bukata should be allowed to live with him, his wife, and their daughter Tendai in a “safe and conducive environment.”
He also claims to be aware that Nakamba is living with four other children.
“I am not aware of the living conditions, but I am made to believe she (Mwizukanji) is living with a male individual, one Joseph Mwenda, who I believe is her husband based on conversations I have had with him.
“I believe that the said Joseph Mwenda has equally brought two of his children,a boy and a girl, aged 12 and 15 years respectively, and they are living together with the complainant (Mwizukanji).
“In the premise of this scenario, there are at least seven children and two adults living in the household of the complainant,” the documents state.
Meanwhile, Kidist has also filed a submission in support of her husband’s custody plea.
“I am the wife to the respondent herein and live with the respondent together with our daughter, Tendai Mulenga.
“That being the wife to the respondent, I understand that there is a need to provide a safe, hospitable, and flourishing environment to our children, including Bukie, and I endeavor to ensure the same is done without fail in our home,” she stated.
She said the couple is committed to providing a nurturing environment for Bukata to grow alongside her younger sister, Tendai, who is just one year younger than her.

GOVT ADMITS INADEQUATE CONSULTATION CONTRIBUTED TO DISCONTENT OVER DEFERRED LANDS AND DEEDS BILL
Government has admitted that inadequate consultation may have contributed to the controversy surrounding the now deferred Lands and Deeds Bill, which is meant to make it easier to resolve land disputes and protect the integrity of land records.
Speaking on when he featured on the Friday edition of “Let the People Talk” on Phoenix FM, Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources Principal Legal Officer Jonathan Ngo’nga, says the bill is designed to allow the Chief Registrar to cancel fraudulent or erroneous titles before the matters escalate to court at a time when the system is open to abuse through corrupt practices and fake land titles.
Mr. Ngo’nga says the proposal was to bring back powers that used to exist for over 100 years but were lost after a 2014 court ruling in the case of Coopers versus Mwanandani, when the court ruled that the Chief Registrar could not cancel a certificate of title without a court order.
He has however admitted that consultations were not as wide as they should have been, and says government will now consult more stakeholders before deciding whether or not to reintroduce the bill to Parliament.
Mr. Ngo’nga adds that the bill also included safeguards, such as the right to appeal decisions of the Chief Registrar to a tribunal while addressing concerns that the law could allow political interference, highlighting that all land in Zambia is held by the political office of President, while the Minister is an office of appeal in land disputes.
CHINESE INVESTOR EYES ZAMBIA’S THRIVING HIGHER EDUCATION
A delegation of Chinese academia has paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Education, Honourable Douglas Syakalima at his office in Lusaka.
Delegation leader, Professor Jiang Yong who serves as Vice President of Zhenzhou University from the People’s Republic of China is in Zambia to explore avenues of establishing a $150 million university.
Professor Yong who was accompanied by some members of the Zambia Chinese Association, proposes via the investment to advance long term academic and scientific relations between the two countries.
If established the proposed institution would serve as a centre of excellence enhancing capacity in science and technology, strengthening local research ecosystems and expanding access to quality higher education.
Honourable Douglas Syakalima commended Professor Yong for choosing Zambia as a preferred destination to supplement government’s ongoing drive to expand the education sector.
Micheal Usi’s Security Trimmed, No-Show at State Function Amid Rift with Chakwera
Tensions between President Lazarus Chakwera and his Vice President Dr. Michael Usi appear to have deepened, with reports emerging that Usi’s official security detail has been significantly reduced.
Sources within the security services say the decision follows a series of open verbal attacks Usi has launched against his boss and the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
Usi, a politician-cum-comedian and presidential candidate for the Odyazake Alibe Mlandu movement, has recently intensified his criticism of Chakwera’s administration, accusing it of failing to resolve the country’s persistent fuel shortages and worsening economic hardships.
“President Chakwera must go,” Usi declared at a recent rally.
“He has failed to address the daily struggles Malawians are facing.”
In what appeared to be a veiled response, Chakwera dismissed Usi’s remarks during a separate event, saying, “Some people are acting childish. Leadership requires maturity.”
The rift was further highlighted today during the Malawi Revenue Authority’s (MRA) silver jubilee celebrations in Lilongwe, where Usi was noticeably absent.
His no-show at the high-level state function, attended by Chakwera and several cabinet ministers, has fueled speculation of a complete fallout between the two.
President Chakwera used the event to announce sweeping reforms aimed at tightening tax compliance and ending cash-based payments for public services.
While the President’s speech drew praise from stakeholders, Usi’s absence raised eyebrows.
Analysts say the Vice President’s reduced presence at official events, combined with the reported scaling back of his protection, signals a growing political divorce ahead of the September 16 General Elections.
Usi is contesting for the presidency under his own ticket, after parting ways with the MCP-led Tonse Alliance.
His campaign has centered on bold rhetoric and satire, targeting what he calls “a broken system failing the people.”
Neither State House nor the Office of the Vice President has officially commented on the security downgrade or the apparent fallout.
KWACHA APPRECIATION IS DUE TO ECONOMIC CONFIDENCE UNDER UPND GOVERNMENT – LUNGU
August 1, 2025
LUSAKA – Special Assistant to the President for Policy Compliance, Mr. Joseph Lungu, says the appreciation of the Kwacha is a result of growing investor confidence and strengthened economic fundamentals under the New Dawn administration.
Speaking in an interview at State House this morning, Mr. Lungu stated that the appreciation reflects “the confidence that stakeholders have in the economic management team and President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership.”
He noted that several key factors have contributed to the strengthening of the local currency, including increased copper production, improved agricultural performance, and a surge in tourism.
“For instance, in 2021, Zambia recorded about 500,000 tourist arrivals. By 2024, that number rose to 2.2 million,” Mr. Lungu said, projecting even higher figures by the end of this year.
He explained that the increased inflow of U.S. dollars from exports and tourism is helping to balance demand and supply in the foreign exchange market, thereby supporting the Kwacha.
“It’s basically a supply and demand situation,” he said, pointing to rising copper prices and strong harvests as major contributors.
Mr. Lungu also emphasized that Zambia’s successful engagement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has played a vital role in boosting investor confidence, reinforcing fiscal discipline, and enhancing economic governance.
“The IMF-supported program is our program. It has created more confidence in the economy,” he added.
While acknowledging potential risks such as global economic instability, Mr. Lungu expressed optimism about the Kwacha’s future performance.
“From where we are sitting, it’s very unlikely the Kwacha will depreciate like we saw in the past,” he concluded.

30% U.S. tariff on South African goods takes effect today, government warns of job losses
A 30% tariff on South African exports to the United States has officially took effect today, following the collapse of trade negotiations between the two countries.
The tariff forms part of a broader U.S. policy shift under President Donald Trump, targeting 69 countries with new import duties aimed at correcting trade imbalances. South Africa has been hit with one of the highest rates.
Trade Minister Parks Tau has warned that the new tariff could threaten thousands of local jobs, particularly in sectors such as automotive manufacturing, agriculture, and steel.
“Our exporters are now at a serious disadvantage,” said Tau. “We made meaningful offers during negotiations, but the U.S. rejected them.”
President Cyril Ramaphosa called the move unjust and said South Africa would explore alternative trade routes and partners, including through BRICS alliances.
The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition is expected to hold urgent talks with affected industries in the coming days as the country braces for the economic impact.

Mitete MP mocks PF MPs for not seeing Lungu’s body despite visiting SA
MITETE Member of Parliament, Misheck Mutelo yesterday mocked PF law makers for not seeing former president Edgar Lungu’s body, despite having traveled to South Africa for the funeral.
Mutelo said he didn’t know what he would tell his constituents back home regarding the identification and verification of Lungu’s body once parley adjourns later today.
The law maker who stood up in the National Assembly yesterday on a point of urgent matters without notice wanted to know what he would have to say when his constituents ask him about the identification of the former president’s body, especially when PF MPs themselves had not seen it.
He said the identification issue was not one to be ignored as questions concerning the verification of the corpse would still come up.
“I know tomorrow, we adjourning but out there, there’s an urgency, I know you would have ruled on it but we will be asked about the funeral.”
“What are we going to say? Even our colleagues, those who traveled haven’t seen the remains of the former president Edgar Lungu,” he said.
And first deputy speaker Attractor Chisanga dismissed the matter stating that no one would address the question because the house was adjourning today.
Chisangano said that if during the Vice President’s Question Time this morning, the Vice President chooses to Agee that question then she would be done.
“Please if her honour the Vice President will be in tomorrow, ask her that question or have a discussion with her,” said Chisangano.
IN DEATH, IN POWER, IN SILENCE: MUNDUBILE SPEAKS AS ZAMBIA WATCHES
By Brian Matambo | Sandton, South Africa
On an otherwise quiet night, a storm gathered, not on the streets of Lusaka, but through the airwaves of Emmanuel Mwamba Verified, where Hon. Brian Mundubile delivered a calm yet explosive indictment of the UPND administration. Over three hours, the former Leader of the Opposition navigated a deeply unsettled political terrain, laying bare what he sees as three urgent crises: the state’s cruelty toward a dead president, the coordinated collapse of democratic institutions, and a dangerous trend of tyranny being legislated into law.
It was not campaign rhetoric. It was something deeper: a controlled confession of a country in freefall, a system unraveling before the eyes of its citizens.
THE CRUELTY OF POWER: EDGAR LUNGU AND THE POLITICS OF THE GRAVE
Two months after the death of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, Zambia still has not buried him. Not because the nation forgot, but because the state refuses to let go.
_“A man cannot be persecuted in life and then persecuted in death,”_ Mundubile said somberly, pointing to the government’s attempt to “inspect and authenticate” Lungu’s body in South Africa. _“It is an obsession, not a procedure.”
He accused the UPND government of turning a moment of national mourning into a political standoff, pitting the family of a former head of state against the full force of state machinery. It’s a claim that resonates beyond party lines.
From the diaspora, a caller from the UK asked: “If you declared national mourning, if you sent envoys to South Africa, if you invited foreign dignitaries to mourn with us, how are you now questioning if the man is dead?”
What should have been a moment of reflection has become a diplomatic and moral embarrassment, casting a long shadow over the President and his inner circle.
*THE BROKEN CHAIN: WHEN THE EXECUTIVE, JUDICIARY AND LEGISLATURE SPEAK IN ONE VOICE* Mundubile’s second major charge was direct and damning: Zambia’s three branches of government no longer check one another. They echo each other.
“You can trace a golden thread,” he said, “that connects the Executive, the Judiciary and the Legislature. That thread is stitched with partisan loyalty, not constitutional duty.”
He recalled how even after reconciling internal PF disputes and signing a legal consent with rival Miles Sampa, the judiciary delayed affirming the agreement. In Parliament, the Speaker has refused to recognize the opposition’s chosen leader. And when the Constitutional Court ruled in their favor, the decision was quietly ignored.
“We have a Parliament that no longer functions as a forum for democracy,”_ he added. _“Presiding officers interrupt, silence, and punish MPs who question the government. And that silence is breeding disaster.”
That silence, he argued, is why Zambia finds itself knee-deep in load shedding, drug shortages, and soaring food prices. Not because MPs aren’t speaking, but because Parliament won’t let them be heard.
TYRANNY IN A SUIT: LEGISLATION AS A WEAPON OF CONTROL
The third theme was perhaps the most unsettling. While much of the world looks to authoritarianism as a strongman’s game, Zambia’s version, Mundubile argued, is more sophisticated, it comes wearing a constitutional pin and armed with bills and statutes.
From the Cyber Security Act to the infamous Bills 7 and 13, to the recent move to expand the judiciary’s numbers exponentially, Mundubile outlined what he sees as a legislative hijack, designed not to reform, but to rule.
“Corruption now goes beyond bribes,”_ he explained. _“It’s in how laws are written, how appointments are made, and how institutions are manipulated to entrench power.”
He warned that the new bill to expand Zambia’s superior courts, one that would increase judges in the High Court from 60 to 200 and balloon the Constitutional Court bench, is part of a strategy to flood the judiciary with cadres, not jurists.
“You will appear before people who were waving the UPND symbol just months before,”_ he said. _“And you will call that justice?”
One caller put it more bluntly: “This is tyranny with a legal signature.”
THE QUESTION STILL HANGING: HOW WILL THE OPPOSITION CHOOSE ITS CHAMPION?
With the diagnosis laid bare, attention shifted to what must come next. Mundubile spoke passionately about opposition unity and ongoing behind-the-scenes talks with key figures like Harry Kalaba, Fred M’membe, and others. The goal: present one opposition candidate to challenge President Hichilema in 2026.
But that left one question, my question, unanswered.
Would you be open to a pre-election public primary to allow Zambians to choose their preferred opposition candidate, before the ballot is cast?
The question was not acknowledged, let alone answered.
And yet, it hangs in the air, not just for Mundubile, but for every aspiring leader in the PF, Socialist Party, UPPZ, UDA, or Tonse Alliance. Because in a country where elections are rigged before polling day, where institutions no longer stand neutral, and where the people’s voice is silenced, democracy must begin before the vote.
The opposition must prove it can win in daylight, not just in corridors.
The Zambian people are not asking for saviors. They are asking for a chance to choose who stands up for them.
Copper Exports Soar to $7.6billion but Government Gets $300million in tax income
ZAMBIA’S copper exports soared to US$7.6 billion in 2024, reaffirming the country’s status as Africa’s second largest copper exporter after the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Yet even as global demand for copper hits record highs, experts warn that Zambia and much of Africa continues to capture only a fraction of the true economic value locked in the continent’s rich copper reserves.
Copper remains the backbone of Zambia’s economy, accounting for the bulk of its export earnings.
In 2024, Zambia’s copper mainly flowed to Switzerland, China, the UAE and India, according to new data compiled by The Visual Capitalist.
“These figures show just how central copper still is to Zambia,” says economist and mining analyst Johnstone Chikwanda.
“But exporting raw copper alone means Zambia loses out on job creation, industrial development, and higher earnings that come from refining and manufacturing.”
Zambia’s performance places it behind only the DRC, which exported an impressive US$19.8 billion worth of copper this year, largely destined for China, the UAE, Egypt, Singapore and the USA.
Together, the two neighbours dominate Africa’s copper market, which as a whole reached US$35 billion in 2024, making copper the continent’s second most valuable export after oil.

PARLIAMENT SITTING MARKED BY GRIEF OVER LUNGU’S DEATH
…..the death of ECL and the subsequent events that surround his death have been very draining to the country, says Eng Katotobwe
Lusaka… Friday August 1, 2025 (SMART EAGLES)
Luapula Constituency PF Member of Parliament Eng Chanda Katotobwe says this current Parliamentary sitting which will rise today, has largely been marred by a deep sense of grief for most Patriotic Front (PF) Members of Parliament.
Eng Katotobwe said this is because of the demise of the late Zambia’s Sixth President Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu whose remains are yet to be buried.
Eng Katotobwe has told Journalists in Lusaka that the death of President Lungu and the subsequent events that surround his death have been very draining to the country.
“It’s being a difficult session following the demise of our late President Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu and the subsequent events have been draining to the country. This sitting, which will rise today has largely been marred by deep sense of grief for most of us the Members of Parliament from the PF who belonged to President Lungu,” he said.
“In our country when a bereavement like that happens, us as a nation in mourning must show sense of compassion to the bereaved family. We are a Christian nation (yes we respect other religious organizations), but as a Christian nation we are supposed to share a lot more compassion and not add trauma or pain and grief on the grieving family. When you add pain or grief on a widow and the bereaved family. It has been over a month since our President died, and is yet to be buried.”
The Lawmaker observed the need to allow the grieving family to start healing by granting them the last wishes of the late former President.
“Our PF Officials, MPs among others will be sacrificing there meagre resources to travel to Pretoria, South Africa, for the court case coming up next week. This is a very unfortunate state of affairs. The family (Lungu family) has been put through a level of pain and trauma which is very difficult to describe,” he added.
“You can’t stay for over a month with a corpse at the funeral house without burying and he was not an ordinary person but ruled this country for over seven years. With all due respect, the humane characteristic of the country is being eroded. We are hoping that as the case comes up next week, we could have closure over this matter.”
Eng Katotobwe emphasized that any country which is devoid of empathy becomes a çursed nation, then a cursed nation may be haunted, we must cleanse ourselves from this and the late President Lungu should be put to rest.
He said the PF MPs and indeed it’s membership stands with the Lungu family during this trying moment.

ZAMBIANS WANT DEVELOPMENT HH TAKING DEVELOPMENT TO ALL CORNERS OF ZAMBIA.
The Zambian people are not interested in political rhetoric or grandstanding, but meaningful development that’s changing and improving their lives.
Since ascending to the highest office in the land, President Hakainde Hichilema has demonstrated political will and desire to work for the people of Zambia who gave him the mandate to govern.
All the social protection policies are people centered and being implemented with the sole objective of improving citizens’ welfare.
The Republican President understands that far flung rural areas like Western Province and many others which never saw any meaningful development in the past, need attention in so many areas, hence his decision to massively increase the CDF, which is disbursed to all 156 constituencies nationwide at the same time, thus taking development to the doorsteps of the people.
The people of Zambia know that President Hakainde Hichilema is a good leader who means well for the country, as their children are enjoying free education, caderism is now a thing of the past, citizens are encouraged to engage in farming for food security at household level, and government continues to support agriculture by delivering farming inputs on time, which is why we have a bumper harvest this year.
If ever there’s a time to see meaningful development in Zambia, that time is now as the country has a President who works tirelessly to improve the citizens welfare without leaving anyone behind.
It’s for these reasons we call upon the people of Zambia particularly Western Province to rally behind President Hichilema’s leadership that’s tried and tested.
We also call upon the opposition to always engage government on national issues, and provide credible checks and balances to government instead of vilifying and attacking those in authority, to gain cheap political mileage without offering any alternative solutions to the challenges the country is grappling with.
Minister of Finance and National Planning, Situmbeko Musokotwane has scrapped the export tax on copper concentrates.
This is according to Statutory Instrument No. 47 of 2025 scrapping export taxes on raw material exports.
The following companies will NOT pay export taxes for copper concentrates;
Mopani Copper Mines Plc
Lumwana Mining Company
Nkana Mining and Mineral Processing
First Quantum Mine
Lubambe Copper Mine Limited
Konkola Concentrates
Nchanga Concentrates
The primary purpose of export taxes on concentrates is to retain local jobs, promoting domestic processing.
Its also to allow for higher tax benefits as processing concentrates reveals other mierals such as gemstones and gold.
Anothet primary driver for export taxes on concentrates is to encourage in-country processing and refining of raw materials, rather than simply exporting them in their less-processed form.
The export taxes becomes a source of a cash strapped government and boosts domestic revenue revenue, especially for Zambia with significant natural resource exports.
In 2008, Musokotwaneas new Minister of Finance scrapped the Windfall Tax from the mining, a tax introduced by his predecessors,Ngandu Magande. The tax had earned Zambia $500million in 2008 alone.
In 2021, after a hiatus of ten years, Musokotwane scrapped the Non-deductible Minieral Royalty Tax, that earned the country $1billion per year since 2019 when it was introduced.
SP RAISES CONCERN OVER ELECTORAL MALPRACTICES IN MFUWE BY-ELECTION
Mfuwe… Friday August 1, 2025 – The Socialist Party (SP) has expressed deep concern over violations of the campaign timetable and electoral misconduct by the ruling UPND in the lead-up to the Mfuwe by-election
In a statement issued by Mr. Maximo Mutambo, the party’s Deputy General Secretary for Administration, the Socialist Party alleged that the UPND had been conducting campaign activities in disregard of the official timetable set by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).
Mr. Mutambo stated that the party had grown frustrated with the ECZ’s Conflict Management Committee, accusing it of inaction despite multiple complaints.
He further stated that law enforcement agencies were failing to curb acts of criminality associated with the by-election.
“The by-election in Mfuwe is not being conducted in a free and fair environment,” Mr. Mutambo stated.
The Socialist Party also condemned an attack on its members in Mununga, where a party vehicle was allegedly stoned.
Mr. Mutambo urged the ECZ to investigate allegations of vote buying and the unlawful collection of voter cards, involving some government ministers in Muchelenje Ward, specifically Supuni Village.
He indicated that more than 15 party supporters could testify to these incidents.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mutambo called for a level playing field and stressed the importance of all political players adhering to electoral laws to guarantee free and fair elections.
A Nation on Trial: When Bills Become Bullets and Truth Becomes a Rumour
By Dr Mwelwa
When a government begins to write laws not for freedom, but for fear, not to protect the people, but to protect itself from them, then tyranny is not at the gate—it has entered and is sitting in Parliament. Zambia, our beloved nation, is drifting. It is no longer a question of political differences.
It is no longer even about party loyalties. The land is uneasy, and the people feel it. Something is broken. You can see it in the eyes of the widow who is dragged to court while still in mourning. You can hear it in the silence of our youths, whose friends are shot dead in Mufumbwe and whose cries for justice echo in empty chambers.
They are making laws. Tyrannical ones. Bill 7, to tie the hands of the Constitutional Court. Bill 13, to gag the Parliament and erase accountability. Cybersecurity bills, crafted in the name of safety, but armed to monitor, punish, and erase dissent. With each stroke of a pen, the noose tightens. What is democracy when courts are stripped, Parliament is silenced, protest is criminal, and the only truth is government propaganda?
And yet, while the laws are being written in ink, the streets of Chingola write in fire. The youth, thrown off mine dumps, left to starve, riot not because they hate peace, but because peace has abandoned them. Those mine dumps were their last refuge, their last semblance of employment. Now taken. The hungry do not wait for parliamentary debates.
The propaganda machine is working overtime. Believe what you want, they say. Yes, he was shot by drug dealers. Yes, he was from Zimbabwe. Yes, he was never sick, not a day. Yes, no one has seen the body. Yes, he went to deal in drugs. Yes, the money was for campaigns. Yes, the death certificate is fake. Yes, South Africa is covering up a crime. Yes, he’s not dead. Yes, people don’t care, they’ve moved on. Yes, you won’t win in 2026. Yes, believe what you want. But no—you won’t see the body.
This is not a country anymore. It’s a courtroom of speculation. A theatre of shadows. Conspiracy is the new language of the people, because truth is no longer served in daylight. Everything leaks except the truth. The people have grown tired. A report says the economy is growing at 5.2%—but the shops are closing, the factories are silent, and the young graduate sits home sending CVs that no one reads. K3.5 billion went out, but we only received $184 million. What arithmetic is this?
The suffering is real. And yet we are told, with smiles and charts, that Zambia is on the rise. Rise to where? It feels like we are actors in a Nollywood film, where the plot twists, people vanish, and logic is on vacation. We are not governed—we are being managed. Managed by slogans. Managed by surveillance. Managed by fear.
Once upon a time, Zambia was a nation with moral elders, fearless youths, wise judges, and hopeful mothers. Now it is a land where widows are mocked, protestors are gassed, and laughter is forced. What happened? What did we exchange our soul for?
The truth is not hard to find. It is in the empty pocket of the farmer who cannot afford fertilizer. It is in the bedroom of the teacher who hasn’t been paid in months. It is in the jail cell of the protestor who simply asked a question. It is in the grave of the youth shot for demanding his dignity.
And what of leadership? Real leadership? Not theatrics, not microphones, not helicopters—but truth, courage, humility? Zambia doesn’t need rulers. It needs repairers. It needs someone who will speak not with polished lies but with painful honesty. Someone who will not fear the people but walk among them. Someone who will not govern by lawfare and spin, but by justice and grace.
Zambia, something is dying. But perhaps, just perhaps, something can still be born. If the youth do not give up. If the elders remember who we are. If we all refuse to be silent. For silence is where tyranny thrives.
And to the makers of these laws: history is patient, but it never forgets. One day, your names will be read—not in praise, but in warning. Believe what you want. But this is not normal. And the people know it.
Binwell Mpundu’s Silence Then, Noise Now, Where Was He When PF Spilled Blood?
by Tobbius Chilembo Hamunkoyo
During the reign of the Patriotic Front (PF) government from 2011 to 2021, Zambia witnessed a troubling wave of politically linked deaths that painted a grim picture of intolerance, police brutality, and suspected state-sponsored violence.
Among the most painful memories is the killing of Mapenzi Chibulo in 2016, gunned down by police during a peaceful UPND march. Then came the tragic death of Vespers Shimuzhila, a University of Zambia student who suffocated after police tear-gassed her hostel during a protest. In December 2020, the nation was shaken again when Nsama Nsama Chipyoka, a prosecutor, and Joseph Kaunda, a UPND supporter, were shot dead in broad daylight by police officers during a protest near Lusaka Central Police. These were not isolated events, they exposed a dangerous trend of suppression and deadly force under the PF government.
So, where was Binwell Mpundu when all this was happening? Where was his voice when Lawrence Banda was gunned down in Kaoma, when Obed Kasongo succumbed to brutal injuries after a by-election attack, and when Grayzer Matapa was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Petauke in 2021? These are not just statistics, they were citizens whose lives were cut short by a system that thrived on political violence under ECL. Binwell was silent then, yet today he speaks the loudest.
Why didn’t he raise his voice when justice was needed most? If he truly stands for the people, he must start by acknowledging this dark past instead of pretending it never happened.
Courts of Public Opinion: The Law Awaits You, Lungu Family and Lawyer
By Timmy
As Zambians, we are united in our demand for transparency and accountability in the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of former President Edgar Lungu. The refusal of the family to allow anyone to see the body has raised serious concerns and fueled widespread speculation. We, the people, will not stand idly by while the government is held at ransom using a body that no one has seen or confirmed to be that of Edgar Lungu.
The lack of transparency and accountability in this matter is unacceptable. If the family and lawyer have indeed lied about Lungu’s death, they could be facing serious charges under Zambian law, including:
Potential Offenses:
1. Conspiracy to commit a crime: Working together to deceive the public and authorities about Lungu’s death. 2. Public mischief: Providing false information to the public or authorities, causing unnecessary concern or disruption.
3. Misleading the police or other authorities: Providing false information to law enforcement or other authorities. 4. Kidnapping or concealing a person: If Lungu is being held against his will or his whereabouts are being concealed.
Furthermore, the constitutional breaches could also be significant, including:
Constitutional Breaches:
1. Right to life and liberty: If Lungu’s rights are being violated by being held against his will. 2. Freedom of movement: If Lungu’s movement is being restricted without justification.
We, the people of Zambia, demand that the authorities take a firm stance and demand transparency. The truth must come out, and justice must be served. We will not be silenced or misled. The law is clear, and those who have engaged in deceitful practices will face the consequences.
We urge the government to:
✍️Investigate the circumstances surrounding Lungu’s death ✍️Verify the authenticity of the death ✍️Ensure transparency and accountability
The courts of public opinion are watching, and justice will be demanded. We will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
Like, comment, and follow our page for more updates on this developing story. The people of Zambia will not rest until the truth is revealed, and justice isieie served.
The Truth Must Come Out
We, the people, demand transparency and accountability. The law must take its course, and those responsible must be held accountable. The state of Zambia cannot be toyed with, and the family and lawyer must understand that the law is waiting for them if they have indeed engaged in deceitful practices.
Let’s stand together and demand the truth. #JusticeForZambia #Transparency #Accountability
Njobvu questions silence on ministers under investigations for alleged corrupt practices
By Francis Chipalo
The silence on cases involving government officials for alleged corrupt practices is a source of concern and speaks as to whether the UPND government is committed to the fight against corruption, Democratic Union (DU) president Ackim Anthony Njobvu has said.
Four cabinet ministers were last year reportedly under investigations by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), but no updates have been given thus far.
And Njobvu has challenged investigative wings to inform the public about the findings of the investigations.
He says the silence on the matter brings about speculations, and a sign that President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration isn’t serious in addressing the vice.
“As a party that promotes democratic values, we want to demand for an update on the investigations of four cabinet ministers that were reportedly being investigated for alleged corrupt practices so that the Zambian people can know,” Njobvu said.
The opposition leader said doing so would entail accountability and transparency in the corruption fight by the UPND government.
The outspoken politician said disclosing the findings would be the only way corruption can be fought in the country.
“We don’t need to be making empty statements, but we need action. If anything, those ministers should have been named and then suspended to allow for smooth investigations without perceived interference,” he said.
“But the fact that they are still serving, one wonders as to whether there is even an investigation going on,” said Njobvu.
He challenged investigative wings for an update.
Njobvu however said the lack of independence of law enforcement agencies such as the DEC, ACC and others was making it difficult to fight corruption in the country.
“As the DU, once in power next year, we will fight for the independence of law enforcement agencies so that they can be working freely when it comes to such matters. Corruption is the biggest challenge Zambia has been facing,” he added.
Njobvu has recently become a critic of President Hichilema and the UPND’s handling of national affairs.
He alleges that government was full of rhetoric and that the Zambian people should make the right decision via the ballot box when the country goes to the polls next year.
Police Arrest Gang-Leader of Thieves Responsible for Cutting, Stealing Kamwala Bombay Drainage Fencing
Kamwala Ward Councillor Hon. Mainda Simataa says Police are detaining the master-mind of a notorious and dangerous panga-weilding gang of thieves that has been cutting down the Bombay drainage protective fencing for many years, and selling it as scrap metal.
The vandals who usually operate in numbers at night armed with assorted weapons, finally ran out of luck this morning when an alert member of the Kamwala community spotted a piece of the Bombay fence laying at a scrap yard in Misisi compound, where one of the suspects was getting ready with his grinder to cut the fence into pieces.
The alert resident quickly mobilized others and pounced on the suspect, who claimed he was just assisting the owner to carry the fence to Misisi around 02:00hrs, and he subsequently led them to the ring leader, and both are now detained at Titanic Police Post awaiting their day in court.
Councillor Simataa who visited Titanic Police Post has confirmed that the suspects are in Police custody and will be subjected to the due process of the law.
From Neglect to New Hope, How CDF is Changing Lives in Chasefu
by Tobbius Chilembo Hamunkoyo
This morning, at a UPND press briefing, Honourable Misheke Nyambose, the Independent Member of Parliament for Chasefu, shared a powerful and emotional account of how the increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF) is transforming his constituency.
For many years, Chasefu was a forgotten place , no mortuary, no secondary school, poor roads, and schools where children sat on dusty floors. But with the rise in CDF from K1.6 million to K36 million per constituency under the UPND administration, change has finally arrived.
Hon. Nyambose revealed that Chasefu now has its first-ever mortuary, a vital facility that brings dignity to the grieving process for local families. In education, the situation has drastically improved.
Once plagued by under-staffed schools with no desks, Chasefu is now home to its first-ever secondary Boarding school under construction, and desks are being delivered so that no child has to sit on the floor again ,a direct response to President Hakainde Hichilema’s declaration that every child deserves to learn in dignity.
Health care and access to clean water have also seen significant progress. A good number of health posts have been built, bringing medical services closer to the people. Clean water, once a luxury for many in Chasefu, is now a reality thanks to the drilling of boreholes funded through CDF.
Hon. Nyambose also shared that his first priority was to fix the road network, which had previously made it difficult for residents to travel, trade, or access basic services. Today, improved roads are opening up opportunities for growth and connectivity.
To those who still doubt the effectiveness of the Constituency Development Fund, Chasefu is living proof that it is working. The transformation taking place ,from classrooms to clinics, from boreholes to bridges , is not political rhetoric but real change felt by ordinary people.

MFUWE ELECORATE HAIL MASSIVE CDF PROJECTS AS NKANDU COMMENDS NEW DAWN INCLUSIVENESS.
Friday, 01 August, 2025.
Insinuations by some opposition Members of Parliament suggesting that the Constituency Development Fund(CDF) is a hoax has been rubbished by residents of Mfuwe Constituency who are now able to boast about the major milestones achieved in massive projects.
Those spoken to say it is disappointing that the opposition have failed to appreciate the game-changer which has resulted in massive countrywide development.
Campaigns have heightened in Mfuwe District of Lavushimanda district with Kaputa Member of Parliament Elvis Nkandu urging Mfuwe Constituency electorate to vote for the UPND candidate Malama Mfunelo, stating the equitable distribution of national resources by the New Dawn regime under President Hakainde Hichilema to all corners of the country.
Nkandu said with President Hichilema’s love for all Zambians, there was no need for the people of Mfuwe to look elsewhere for another political party as they go to vote.
“The inclusiveness by President Hichilema is evidenced by the appointment of his cabinet from all the 10 provinces of Zambia. This is contrary to the tribal lies that some people peddled before the UPND formed government,” Nkandu said.
Under President Hichilema’s leadership, Nkandu said, councils where workers had gone for over a dozen months without pay, had been cleared while retirees who kept on crying for the benefits during the PF regime, had also been paid with several youths getting employed.
Nkandu said voting for the UPND candidate would mean voting for continued development.
And Shiwang’andu constituency’s 2026 Parliamentary aspiring candidate, Robert Kapeya, urged Mfuwe residents not to entertain division based on region or ethnic groupings when President Hichilema has worked hard to unite the nation.
Kapeya also commended President Hichilema for the free education for all children from Grade One to Twelve and the youth sills training using CDF, coupled with the employment of over 30,000 teachers.
The Mfuwe Constituency by-election was necessitated by the jailing of former Member of Parliament, Maureen Mabonga.
Boy Mamabolo still ANC member despite IEC rejection of new party
The ANC in Limpopo has confirmed that Jacob Boy Mamabolo remains a party member, despite the Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC) recent rejection of his attempt to register a new political party, ‘Mandela for President’.
According to ANC Limpopo Provincial Secretary Reuben Madadzhe, Mamabolo is currently undergoing a disciplinary process but has not been expelled. “He is not above the ANC. If he wants to start his own party, he is free to do so, but we will contest him,” Madadzhe said following a Provincial Executive Committee meeting.
The IEC rejected Mamabolo’s party registration on grounds of non-compliance, including invalid signatures, inconsistent leadership documents, and concerns over the party’s name and colours resembling ANC branding. The use of “Mandela” in the party name and the listing of Mamabolo as “Mandela Jacob Boy Mamabolo” raised red flags about possible misrepresentation.
Mamabolo, a former MP with a history of clashes with the ANC, was suspended in April after controversial social media posts and is currently suing the party over his removal from its 2021 candidate list. The case is expected in the South Gauteng High Court on 1 September.
Despite the setback, Mamabolo plans to reapply to the IEC without changing the party’s name. The ANC and Nelson Mandela Foundation have both objected, accusing him of exploiting Mandela’s legacy.
As tensions grow, Mamabolo’s political future remains uncertain, with critics accusing him of opportunism.
GOVERNMENT INAUGURATES FIRST-EVER LEVY MWANAWASA MEDICAL UNIVERSITY COUNCIL
Lusaka, 31 July 2025 — The Government has officially inaugurated the first University Council for Levy Mwanawasa Medical University (LMMU), marking a significant milestone in the governance and strategic leadership of one of Zambia’s leading medical training institutions.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Lusaka, Minister of Education Douglas Syakalima, emphasized the critical role of the new council in strengthening higher education and shaping the future of medical education in Zambia.
“This is the first time a University Council is being appointed at Levy Mwanawasa Medical University in accordance with the law, the occasion is not only historic but also vital for the transformation of the institution into a center of academic and professional excellence,” Mr Syakalima.
The Minister praised the calibre of the newly appointed council members, describing them as distinguished professionals whose experience and commitment will be pivotal to the university’s growth.
“Your work in this Council is service to the nation. Your remuneration will come from the gratitude of the Zambian people and the positive impact your leadership will bring to the university,” he said.
The Minister urged council members to familiarize themselves with the Higher Education Act No. 4 of 2013 and the Amendment Act No. 23 of 2021, which define their roles and responsibilities. He further stressed the importance of adhering to good corporate governance, ethical leadership, and maintaining confidentiality in their operations.
He also called for a clear distinction between the roles of the university’s management and council, encouraging teamwork and mutual respect to drive institutional success.
“The university has lacked a council for a long time. There is urgent work ahead of you,” the Minister said. “Many systems need to be normalized, including employment structures, and this Council must provide policy direction to stabilize and strengthen operations.”
Mr. Syakalima also stated that eight other university councils appointed by his office have been performing exceptionally well, and expressed confidence that the LMMU Council would follow suit.
“I have every confidence that you will rise to the occasion and become an example of a well-organized, cohesive, and competent university council,” he said.
Zambia to Adopt Kenya’s Digital Livestock Tracking System
By Doreen Chembe
Zambia is set to benefit from Kenya’s advanced digital livestock tracking system, which monitors animal location, vaccination history, and feeding practices.
Agriculture Minister Reuben Mtolo says the system has proven effective in curbing cattle rustling and improving livestock traceability in Kenya.
Speaking on the sidelines of the UN Food Systems Summit Stocktake in Ethiopia, Mr. Mtolo said Zambia welcomes Kenya’s offer to collaborate in applying the technology, which he described as vital for modernizing veterinary services.
Mr. Mtolo further expressed interest in technology transfer and technical support to strengthen Zambia’s animal health sector, particularly in vaccine production.
He noted that Kenya currently manufactures up to 14 different types of vaccines, including those for Foot and Mouth Disease.
Meanwhile, Kenya’s Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Mutahi Kagwe, said enhanced maize trade between the two countries will support food and animal feed security.
Both Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to fully implement the 2022 Memorandum of Understanding on Agriculture, which aims to strengthen bilateral trade, technology exchange, food security, and agricultural innovation.
