FINANCE MINISTER DEFENDS GOVT PLANS TO SEEK FURTHER IMF FUNDING

FINANCE MINISTER DEFENDS GOVT PLANS TO SEEK FURTHER IMF FUNDING

By Nelson Zulu

Finance and National Planning Minister Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane has defended the government’s decision to seek further funding from the International Monetary Fund-IMF- following the recent disbursement of $184 million.

Dr. Musokotwane says the latest funding is the sixth instalment under the Extended Credit Facility programme that began in 2022 and is due to conclude in October 2025.

In an interview with Phoenix news, Dr. Musokotwane has clarified that the latest engagement with the IMF is aimed at maintaining macroeconomic stability, strengthening foreign exchange reserves and addressing balance of payments pressures rather than financing long term development projects.

The Minister explains that short term liquidity support is sought from the IMF, while long term development projects such as roads, schools and water supply are funded through development banks like the World Bank.

Dr. Musokotwane has also noted that the IMF programme has helped to stabilise the exchange rate, keeping the Kwacha close to 23 per US dollar despite global shocks, which he says reflects prudent management of external reserves.

GOVERNMENT EMPOWERS SMALL-SCALE LOCAL GOLD MINERS WITH 90 NEW LICENCES IN MUFUMBWE

GOVERNMENT EMPOWERS SMALL-SCALE LOCAL GOLD MINERS WITH 90 NEW LICENCES IN MUFUMBWE

July 31, 2025

Lusaka – The New Dawn Government, under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, has issued 90 gold mining licences to cooperatives in Mufumbwe District, North-Western Province, through the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development.

Speaking yesterday, Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Hon. Paul Kabuswe said the issuance of the licences is part of the government’s efforts to transform illegal mining into a structured and sustainable economic activity.

“Our aim is not to punish, but to empower and protect our people,” said Minister Kabuswe during a handover ceremony in Kikonge

The formalisation exercise follows the suspension of all mining activities in the area, which had seen over 25,000 illegal miners converge. The newly introduced system is designed to ensure safety, environmental protection, and transparency in mineral trading.

This initiative marks the beginning of a broader formalisation programme aimed at legalising and regulating artisanal mining across the mineral-rich region.

In line with this effort, a dedicated department for Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM) has been established under the new Geological and Minerals Development Act.

“This is a government that listens and acts. We want Zambians to be active participants and beneficiaries of their own mineral wealth,” Mr Kabuswe added.

The restructuring of large cooperatives into smaller, more manageable units has also been welcomed, as it is expected to ensure fair distribution of licences and improve operational efficiency.

“This initiative is not just for Mufumbwe. It will uplift surrounding areas like Kasempa and Kashima,” said North-Western Province Minister Hon. Robert Lihefu.

This programme is a fulfillment of President Hichilema’s 2021 campaign promise to empower small-scale miners and foster local development.

It stands as a clear demonstration of the UPND administration’s commitment to broad-based economic transformation one that puts the people first.

LUSAMBO TO KNOW HIS FATE ON SEPT 25

LUSAMBO TO KNOW HIS FATE ON SEPT 25

THE Kabwe magistrates court has set September 25 for judgement in the case in which former Lusaka Province minister Bowman Lusambo and four others are charged with unlawful assembly.

Lusambo, 48, who is also former Patriotic Front (PF) Kabushi Member of Parliament (MP), is charged with Central Province PF chairman Billy Sichamba, Saidi Chibwana and Mathews Changwe, businessmen, and bus conductor Martin Simfukwe.

It is alleged that on November 2, 2023 in Kabwe town when Lusambo was en route to Lusaka from Luanshya made a brief stop at Staross Take Away to buy a meat pie and drinks.

He greeted people who later mobbed him, an act which attracted the charge of unlawful assembly charge.

Earlier, the State called seven witnesses among the United Party for National Development cadres who testified against him and others.

Kabwe resident magistrate Gloria Chipasha put Lusambo on his defence after establishing a prima facie case against him.

Five defence witnesses were called to testify in the matter leading to its close yesterday ahead of judgement in September.

Magistrate Chipasha advised the defence team to make its submissions on August 13 while the State is expected to file its response on August 27.

The court will reconvene on August 28 for mention.

Meanwhile, a fuel attendant at Kabwe’s Rubis Filling Station yesterday said he did not sense any danger for him to press the emergency button and close the filling station.

Testifying before Chipasha was 28-year-old George Mulila, a fuel attendant who said the environment at the filling station was calm and peaceful when Lusambo made the brief stopover.
Mulila said Lusambo did not cause any potential threat to the neighbourhood, too.

Another witnesses, a salesman at Staross Take Away Newton Chayenkuwa said he sold Lusambo and two others snacks and drinks on the material day. Chayenkuya said Staross Take Away was a public place where people from all walks of life, including prominent citizens and politicians, stopped over for refueling their vehicles and buy snacks and refreshments.

He said it was common to witness members of the public mob public figures. Other witnesses, Given Ziba and Clement Kalifungwa, told the court that Lusambo’s impromptu stopover at Staross Take Away was not in any way a planned gathering.

They said it was the popularity of the prominent politician that attracted Kabwe residents to scramble to catch a glimpse of Lusambo commonly referred to as Bulldozer.

CHINGOLA MP CHIPOKA MULENGA CONDEMNS RIOTS, CALLS FOR UNITY AND STAKEHOLDER DIALOGUE

CHINGOLA MP CHIPOKA MULENGA CONDEMNS RIOTS, CALLS FOR UNITY AND STAKEHOLDER DIALOGUE

By Dennis Sikazwe Jr
Chingola, July 30, 2025

Chingola Member of Parliament Hon. Chipoka Mulenga has strongly condemned the violent riots that rocked parts of the district today, describing the unrest as both tragic and avoidable. In a passionate statement issued hours after calm was restored, the MP urged residents to reject lawlessness and embrace dialogue as the only path to sustainable progress.

“No amount of disagreement can justify the violence to property, harm to human life, and looting we have witnessed today,” he said. “Each time we run amok, we take ourselves years back from civility.”

The violence, which broke out following the displacement of Jeraboos (informal miners) from the Senseli Open Pit, saw 79 people arrested and four civilians injured one fatally. Seven police officers were also wounded while responding to the riots in Chiwempala, Lulamba and Mwaiseni areas.

Among the casualties was 22-year-old M’Bwalya Nsanda, who tragically lost his life after being shot in the chest. A 13-year-old boy was among those injured, sustaining a gunshot wound to the hand.

The riots left a trail of destruction: Mathews Nkhuwa Police Post was vandalized, 11 vehicles parked for safekeeping were damaged, and two pieces of road construction machinery were set ablaze near Chawama Clinic. Several local businesses ranging from milling shops to butcheries and mobile phone outlets were looted. Some of the stolen items have since been recovered.

Despite the chaos, police have now brought the situation under control and are continuing investigations.

Hon. Mulenga, while commending security agencies for swiftly restoring order, expressed disappointment at the breakdown in communication between investors and the local community.

> “This situation was avoidable,” he said. “Any investor must have a social licence with the community it only comes through decent engagement, not hostile takeovers.”

He further warned that while perpetrators must face the law, efforts must now shift to healing and inclusivity.

“Let us not use this as a moment to politicize the pain of our community. It is time to unite, protect our children’s right to go to school in peace, and allow our traders to rebuild their livelihoods,” he said.

As Chingola begins to recover from one of its darkest days in recent history, the MP’s message stands clear violence will never be the solution Ubuntu must lead the way forward.

Julius Malema labels Boy Mamabolo as his “ice boy” in explosive interview

Julius Malema labels Boy Mamabolo as his “ice boy” in explosive interview

EFF leader Julius Malema has stirred controversy after branding former ally and ANC politician Boy Mamabolo his “ice boy” during an interview.

Speaking on EWN, Malema claimed he used to send Mamabolo to buy alcohol and “fetch girls” during their youth in Seshego, adding that Mamabolo “had no opinion” and was merely a follower.

The explosive comments have gone viral on social media, reigniting their long-standing rivalry.

Once comrades in COSAS and the ANC Youth League, the two have been locked in a bitter public feud since Malema’s 2012 expulsion from the ANC.

Their fallout includes Mamabolo’s 2011 mock coffin-burning celebrating Malema’s suspension and a 2013 message threatening to exhume Malema’s mother’s remains.

In 2020, Mamabolo accused Malema of abusing his wife, Mantoa, triggering defamation suits and a public apology.

Mamabolo, who recently failed to register his new party “Mandela for President,” has yet to respond to Malema’s latest jab, which many online are calling another round of the “Seshego Derby.”

Wicknell Chivayo Warns Authors: “Stop Writing Books About Me”

Wicknell Chivayo Warns Authors: “Stop Writing Books About Me”

Flamboyant businessman Wicknell Chivayo has come out guns blazing against people trying to cash in on his name by writing unauthorised books about his life.

Chivayo Distances Himself From Any Books About His Life
In a statement released on Tuesday, 29 July 2025, Chivayo didn’t mince his words. He said he hasn’t given anyone permission to write a book about him, and he wants it to stop.

He made it clear that he hasn’t approved, endorsed, or contributed to any book about his personal or professional life.

“I have not authorised any book or publication about me. These are just criminals trying to make money by using my name without permission,” Wicknell Chivayo stated.

Wicknell Chivayo Warns Authors: “Stop Writing Books About Me”
He also warned that anyone pushing ahead with these projects would face serious legal consequences

“Anyone writing books about me to make money will face the full wrath of the law,” he said. “Let it be clear – I have no intentions of being featured in any book. This must stop immediately.”

According to him, anything claiming to be a biography or official account of his life is false and should be ignored. He told the public and publishers to treat such material as rubbish.

Legal experts say using someone’s name or image without permission, especially for profit, can lead to big trouble – including lawsuits for misrepresentation and intellectual property theft.

Zim Man Axes Wife For Saving Married Neighbour’s Number As Mbuya Juju, Kills Himself Hours Later

Harare Man Axes Wife For Saving Married Neighbour’s Number As Mbuya Juju, Kills Himself Hours Later

A Harare woman is fighting for her life in hospital after her husband attacked her with an axe in a fit of rage triggered by suspicion of infidelity.

Laiza Sipiwa, 40, was struck three times with a small axe by her husband, Darlington Ndira, 39, in the early hours of Sunday morning at their home in Waterfalls. Despite the brutal assault, Laiza survived and is currently in critical condition.

Harare Man Axes Wife For Saving Married Neighbour’s Number As Mbuya Juju
The violent episode reportedly began when Darlington found photos of a married neighbour, Tichaona Vetrino, on Laiza’s phone, saved under the contact name “Mbuya Juju.” He accused her of having an affair. Although the couple went to bed without resolving the issue, Darlington clearly hadn’t let it go.

At around 4 am, while Laiza was asleep, Darlington struck her on the head with an axe. When she woke up, he hit her twice more before fleeing the house, leaving her unconscious and bleeding.

Two hours later, Darlington sent a chilling message to Tichaona, saying he had killed his “prostitute.” He later followed up, claiming he had taken rat poison. But instead of poison, Darlington was found hanging from a tree near Koala Park later that day.

Tichaona denied any romantic involvement with Laiza. He said the two simply lived in the same area and had no affair.

Neighbour Denies Affair
Tichaona added that despite Darlington’s jealousy, he himself often flirted with other men’s wives. On the day of the attack, Tichaona said he didn’t take Darlington’s messages seriously at first and even laughed at the poison threat. He and his wife later went to check on the couple and called the police after finding Laiza critically injured.

“I do not know why Laiza saved my number that way, but, honestly, I never dated her. Her husband saw this sometime in March and has always been suspecting me. I wake up early every day to water my garden, and Laiza also wakes up early to work for her school kids, and Darlington suspected that we were meeting in such wee hours for love. Darlington was too jealous, although he would find time to talk to other men’s wives. On the day in question, Darlington sent a message informing me that he had killed Laiza. He went on to send a message that he had downed rat poison to take his life, and I laughed at him. I went to check them in the company of my wife, and we called the police. I am the one who facilitated his accommodation. We were shocked to hear that his body was found hanging near Koala Park,” said Tichaona.

Police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.

Eunor Guti Shares Why She Rejected US$2 Million From Wicknell Chivayo

Eunor Guti Shares Why She Rejected US$2 Million From Wicknell Chivayo

ZAOGA church matriarch Eunor Guti, widow of the late Archbishop Ezekiel Guti, has revealed why she turned down a high-profile gift from controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo, a brand-new 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser VXR 300 Series and US$250,000 in cash.

Chivayo made the flashy offer in May, calling it a tribute to the late Archbishop. He even posted about it on social media, claiming the vehicle had already been paid for and was awaiting delivery, pending approval from the church’s leadership. The US$250,000, he added, was for fuel and Eunor’s personal use.

“Ordinarily, I would say, please go and see Farai, but Farai from Faramatsi Motors, Club Chambers Showroom, along 4th Street, will come to you and deliver your 2025 brand new Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series VXR, which is fully paid for and ready for delivery, subject to the Church’s Governing Board’s consent. Furthermore, please accept USD250,000 in CASH for fuel and your personal use,” he wrote on his social media pages.

But Eunor Guti told her congregation she had no doubt about rejecting the gift. She said accepting it would have betrayed everything she and her late husband stood for.

“There was no mind or will of God in it. They can use that money somewhere else. We don’t want it, not even for our church projects,” she told her congregation during a recent address.

Behind the scenes, the proposal reportedly caused serious debate within the church. Some leaders urged Guti to accept the vehicle and money, while others warned that doing so could taint ZAOGA’s legacy due to the controversy surrounding Chivayo’s wealth.

Guti revealed that someone she didn’t even know was sent to pressure her into accepting the offer. Despite the persistence, she said she had already made up her mind.

“Someone I don’t even know was sent to plead with me to accept the offer. This man was very serious, trying to push me into accepting. I told him I needed to pray, but I already knew I was going to say no,” she recounted.

Guti also said she had no need for a new SUV because she already owns one. More importantly, she said the gesture didn’t align with the principles her late husband lived by.

She added, “We have never seen our father receiving that kind of money. How can we start doing that now? We’re not desperate. We will not take money we do not understand.”

Guti also disclosed that someone else had recently offered the church US$2 million, which she also declined for the same reasons, it didn’t feel right or godly.

Wicknell Chivayo has become well-known for donating expensive cars to influential people, particularly within religious and political circles. However, he remains a divisive figure due to his ties to murky government contracts and an unclear source of wealth.

Trump says ‘probably won’t’ attend G20 summit in South Africa

Trump says ‘probably won’t’ attend G20 summit in South Africa

By: eNCAnews

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he did not plan to attend the G20 summit in South Africa, rehashing debunked claims of white citizens being systematically persecuted and killed in the country.

Asked aboard Air Force One if he planned to attend the leaders’ summit in November, Trump said: “No, I think maybe I’ll send somebody else, because I’ve had a lot of problems with South Africa.”

“They have some very bad policies… A lot of people are being killed. So I think I probably won’t. I’d like to, but I don’t think I will.”

Trump took aim at South Africa early in his second term, fixating on claims elevated by his then-ally Elon Musk — who was born in the country — of systematic persecution of white citizens.

Washington has been particularly critical of a land expropriation law signed in January that aims to redress historical inequalities from the apartheid era of white minority rule.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has rejected US assertions that the law will be used to arbitrarily confiscate white-owned land.

In a stunning White House meeting in May, Trump ambushed Ramaphosa by playing a video with reporters present that he purported showed a “genocide” against the country’s white minority.

Surveillance video ‘missing’ from footage of the night Jeffrey Epstein was discovered de@d is found

The minute of surveillance video that was allegedly ‘missing’ from the footage of the night Jeffrey Epstein was found de@d in his prison cell has reportedly been found.

A source familiar with the investigation told the Daily Mail that the FBI and DOJ are both in possession of the minute of video that the agencies previously said was not there because of a tape transition that occurred automatically every night.

The Justice Department released earlier this month nearly 11 hours of surveillance footage of the area of the prison leading to Epstein’s cell the night he d!ed.

It was meant to prove that no one went towards the convicted child sex offender that night, amid claims that Epstein was murdered to prevent him from spilling secrets about high-profile co-conspirators.

According to Mail Online, Sleuths found there was a one–minute gap in the footage overnight from August 9 to August 10, 2019, which only led to more speculation that a cover-up was underway. The time code on the screen jumped forward one-minute just before midnight.

When the video was released earlier this month, it was described as ‘raw’ footage.

Attorney General Pam Bondi was questioned about the video in a July 8 Cabinet meeting, and she claimed the Bureau of Prisons told her it was an antiquated process that happened every night when the tapes automatically reset.

Now it’s revealed that the FBI is in possession of a version of the video that includes the missing minute.

It’s unclear why the section was missing when the video was released earlier in July, or what is in the video that wasn’t previously shown.

And there are still questions over whether the Justice Department will decide to release the found minute.

In an unsigned joint memo made public on July 6, the DOJ and FBI claimed a months-long review of the files found that the disgraced financier and sex offender was not murdered in his cell.

It also concluded that there was no so-called ‘client list’ of co-conspirators and said that no one else would be charged in relation to his crimes.

Australia to ban under-16s from YouTube

Australia to ban under-16s from YouTube

By: eNCAnews

Australia will use landmark social media laws to ban children under 16 from video-streaming site YouTube, a top minister said Wednesday stressing the need to shield them from “predatory algorithms”.

Communications Minister Anika Wells said four-in-ten Australian children had reported viewing harmful content on YouTube, one of the most visited websites in the world.

“We want kids to know who they are before platforms assume who they are,” Wells said in a statement.

“There’s a place for social media, but there’s not a place for predatory algorithms targeting children.”
Australia announced last year it was drafting laws that will ban children from social media sites such as Facebook, TikTok and Instagram until they turn 16.
The government had previously indicated YouTube would be exempt, given its widespread use in classrooms.
“Young people under the age of 16 will not be able to have accounts on YouTube,” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese told reporters on Wednesday.

Trump seriously ”considering a pardon for Diddy” as he awaits sentencing in jail

U.S. President Donald Trump is ‘seriously considering’ a pardon for Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs as the rap mogul awaits his sentencing in a Brooklyn jail.

As the judge prepares his punishment over prostitution charges after he was acquitted on three of his most serious charges, a source told Deadline that Trump has been mulling the reprieve.

Insiders told the outlet that the idea had advanced from ‘just another Trump weave to an actionable event.’

The 55-year-old mogul was found not guilty of s£x trafficking and racketeering earlier this month, but was convicted of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.

Combs is set to receive his sentencing on October 3 and faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

A presidential pardon has been talked of since the beginning of Combs’ trial, and Trump even indicated in May that he was open to the idea.

The U.S. President said, when asked on the matter in the Oval Office, that ‘nobody’s asked but I know people are thinking about it.’

‘I know they’re thinking about it. I think some people have been very close to asking,’ he added.

‘First of all, I’d look at what’s happening. And I haven’t been watching it too closely, although it’s certainly getting a lot of coverage,’ Trump continued.

‘I haven’t seen him, I haven’t spoken to him in years. He used to really like me a lot, but I think when I ran for politics he sort of, that relationship busted up from what I read. I don’t know. He didn’t tell me that, but I’d read some nasty statements in the paper all of a sudden.’

‘So, I don’t know. I would certainly look at the facts. if I think somebody was mistreated, whether they like me or don’t like me it wouldn’t have any impact,’ he concluded.

Attorney John Koufos, who recently met with Trump’s pardon ‘tsar’ Alice Marie Johnson and pardon attorney Ed Martin, told the Daily Mail elements of the case fit with Trump’s push against ‘overcriminalization’ and ‘weaponization’ in charging.

Tyrese Gibson faces jail threat as ex-wife accuses him of owing nearly $500K in legal fees

Tyrese Gibson’s ex-wife, Samantha Gibson, is pushing for the singer and actor to be jailed following claims that he has refused to pay nearly half a million dollars in legal fees tied to their divorce.

According to court documents filed on Friday, July 25, Samantha accused the Fast & Furious star of deliberately ignoring a court order requiring him to pay $399,512 in attorney fees — an amount that has now grown to $492,651 due to interest.

“Mr. Gibson has the ability to pay the court-ordered attorney’s fees and accrued interest and chooses to ignore the court’s order,” Samantha wrote in her complaint, describing it as a “blatant disregard” for the court’s judgment.

According to Billboard, she is now asking the court to find Tyrese in criminal contempt and sentence him to 20 days behind bars as punishment for the continued non-payment.

The former couple, who ended their marriage in 2020, finalized their divorce in 2023. As part of the ruling, the judge directed Tyrese to pay a total of $399K in legal bills — including $217,731 to The Gleklen Law Firm and $181,421 to Bloom Lines Alexander.

But since then, things have been anything but smooth. Last year, Tyrese was briefly taken into custody for failing to pay child support. Shortly after, one of the law firms filed for a lien on his Atlanta property over the unpaid debt.

The latest legal move, according to Samantha’s legal team, is aimed at forcing him to settle the long-standing obligation.

Actor Neal McDonough reveals he was shunned by Hollywood for refusing to kiss onscreen

Neal McDonough, known for roles in Suits, Desperate Housewives, and Yellowstone, recently opened up about how his strict moral boundaries nearly derailed his acting career.

Speaking on the Nothing Left Unsaid podcast, McDonough explained that he has always included a no-kissing clause in his contracts — a decision that didn’t sit well with the Hollywood system.

“My wife didn’t have any problem with it. It was me, really, who had a problem with it,” he said. “I was like, ‘Yeah, I don’t want to put you through it. I know we’re gonna start having kids,’ and I didn’t wanna put my kids through it.”

I lost everything? – Yellowstone? Actor Neal McDonough reveals he was shunned by Hollywood for refusing to kiss onscreen

McDonough, 59, emphasized that for him, intimacy on screen crosses a line. “When I wouldn’t do it and they couldn’t understand it, Hollywood just completely turned on me. They wouldn’t let me be part of the show anymore,” he recalled.

Though he didn’t name the project that led to his blacklisting, McDonough has previously said he was fired from ABC’s Scoundrels in 2010 for refusing to participate in sex scenes.

“It was a horrible situation for me,” he told Closer Weekly at the time. “After that, I couldn’t get a job because everybody thought I was this religious zealot. I am very religious. I put God and family first, and me second. That’s what I live by.”

Married to South African model Ruvé Robertson since 2003, McDonough is a father of five. He says the fallout from his convictions wasn’t just professional—it was deeply personal.

“I couldn’t get a job and I lost everything you could possibly imagine,” he said. “Not just houses, material things, but your swagger, your cool, who you are, your identity, everything. My identity was an actor, and a really good one. Once you don’t have that identity, you’re kind of in a tailspin.”

McDonough admitted the experience led to personal struggles, including heavier drinking. “I never drank during work because I love my craft and take it seriously. But afterward, I still felt like I wasn’t doing the right things. Some things just weren’t clicking.”

Eventually, a lifeline came from producer Graham Yost, who cast McDonough as a villain in the FX series Justified. “I knew that was my shot back at the title,” he said.

Since then, McDonough has returned to the spotlight with roles in Band of Brothers, Arrow, American Horror Story, Tulsa King, and most notably, Yellowstone.

In one of his latest projects, The Last Rodeo, McDonough acted alongside his real-life wife — and even broke his usual rule to share a kiss with her onscreen.

Arab states, entire European Union and 17 additional countries call on Hamas to disarm and relinquish power

0

Arab and Muslim countries including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt have, for the first time, jointly called on Hamas to disarm and relinquish control of the Gaza Strip.

The move is part of a broader effort to end the ongoing conflict in the territory.

The declaration, backed by the 22-member Arab League, the entire European Union, and 17 additional countries, was signed at a United Nations conference co-hosted by Saudi Arabia and France in New York. The meeting focused on achieving a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and advancing the Two-State Solution.

The joint document emphasized that governance, law enforcement, and security across all Palestinian territories should be the sole responsibility of the Palestinian Authority, supported by the international community. It called for Hamas to end its rule in Gaza and surrender its weapons to the Palestinian Authority, with international oversight and assistance. This, the declaration stated, aligns with the goal of establishing a sovereign and independent Palestinian state.

The declaration also condemned the deadly Hamas attack on Israel that took place on October 7, 2023, and proposed the deployment of a temporary international stabilization mission under the auspices of the United Nations, upon invitation by the Palestinian Authority. Some member states have already expressed readiness to contribute troops to the mission.

France, which co-chaired the conference, described the declaration as “unprecedented.” French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot noted that this marked the first time that Saudi Arabia and other Arab and Muslim nations publicly condemned the October 7 attacks, called for Hamas’ disarmament, and expressed interest in eventually normalizing relations with Israel.

Qatar and Egypt, who have served as key mediators throughout the conflict, maintain communication channels with both Hamas and Israel.

Earlier in March, Egypt put forward a post-war governance plan for Gaza that excluded Hamas. The plan, which was discussed during an emergency summit in Cairo, proposed a temporary Palestinian committee to take over governance of the enclave, with eventual transfer of power to the Palestinian Authority.

Saudi Arabia continues to advocate for the revival of the Two-State Solution. France has announced its intention to recognize a Palestinian state by September, a stance echoed by the United Kingdom, which warned it would do the same unless Israel agrees to a ceasefire. These announcements have been met with strong opposition from both Israel and the United States.

Despite mounting international pressure, Hamas has shown no clear intention of stepping down. The group’s leadership has issued conflicting statements in recent months about its future role in a post-war Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remains firmly opposed to the Two-State Solution, arguing that it poses a threat to Israel’s national security.

Former NFL star Shannon Sharpe fired by ESPN after settling $50 Million r@pe lawsuit

0

Former NFL star and media analyst, Shannon Sharpe, has been fired by ESPN less than two weeks after settling a $50 million r@pe lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend, The Athletic reports.

Sharpe has not been on ESPN since April, when he stepped away from the network to rejoin their broadcasts by football season.

The civil lawsuit was filed in Clark County, Nevada, seeking damages for claims of ass@ult, s£xual ass@ult, battery, and s£xual battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress while alleging multiple nonconsensual sexual encounters involving Sharpe in the accuser’s Las Vegas apartment.

Sharpe publicly denied the allegations immediately after his ex-girlfriend filed the suit and called the case a “shakedown.” He said the relationship was consensual, taking place between 2024 and 2025.

Last fall, Sharpe was involved in another sexual incident, where he says he accidentally livestreamed audio on Instagram of himself having s£x.

Sharpe played 14 years in the NFL, 12 of which were in Denver. He won two Super Bowls for the Broncos, catching passes from John Elway, and is regarded as one of the best tight ends in league history. Since retiring after the 2003 season, Sharpe has remained a public figure as one of the most outspoken broadcasters on television.

Former Barça player in serious condition after being bitten by a dog near his gen!t@ls

Former Barcelona winger Carles Perez, has been sidelined after suffering a groin injury in a dog attack.

The 27-year-old Spaniard, who currently plays for Aris Thessaloniki, was reported to be walking his own dog when he was bitten in the genitals by another dog during an attempt to separate the animals. The incident left him with a deep wound, requiring treatment in a hospital. He received six stitches, according to Marca.

Doctors also considered performing surgery on the injured area, according to Prime Sport.

Perez featured in the Greek side’s 2-1 defeat at Araz-Nakhchivan in the first leg of the second qualifying round of the Europa Conference League.

20 Candidates Successfully File for Malawi 2025 Presidential Race

20 Candidates Successfully File for Malawi 2025 Presidential Race

By: Malawi24

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has officially concluded the nomination period for candidates contesting in the country’s 2025 presidential, parliamentary, and Local Government Elections, marking a critical milestone in the national electoral calendar.

Speaking at the close of the nomination phase, MEC Chairperson Annabel Mtalimanja extended heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders for their cooperation and orderly conduct.

She acknowledged political party representatives, independent aspirants, media outlets, civil society organisations, security agencies, healthcare teams, MEC personnel, and the general public for contributing to a smooth and peaceful process.

A total of 22 presidential aspirants collected nomination forms. Of these, 20 successfully submitted valid nominations by the 4:00 PM deadline on July 30. Seven of the candidates are running as independents, and only one is a woman, highlighting the persistent gender imbalance in Malawi’s presidential politics.

The nomination phase was not without challenges. Three candidates, Daniel Dube of the Nationalist Patriotic Party, independent Rev. Hardwick Kaliya and Kamuzu Chibambo of the People’s Transformation Party (PETRA) had their initial submissions rejected due to substantial irregularities. All three have since resubmitted revised paperwork, which is currently under review.

The period also saw several last-minute developments. Cassim Chilumpha of the Assembly for Democracy and Development (ADD) and Dalitso Chauluka, initially aligned with the People’s Progressive Movement (PPM) before attempting an independent bid, both formally withdrew from the race. In contrast, Frank Tumpale Mwenifumbo reversed his earlier withdrawal and rejoined the contest under the National Development Party (NDP).

Candidate vetting is currently underway as MEC scrutinises the authenticity and completeness of each submission, including affidavits and endorsements from at least ten registered voters. The final list of approved presidential candidates is expected to be announced by August 8.

Chairperson Mtalimanja underscored the importance of this thorough screening process to ensure that only candidates who meet all legal and constitutional requirements will appear on the ballot.
Meanwhile, the official campaign period, launched on July 14, has progressed without major incidents. MEC has urged all contenders to maintain peaceful, issue-based campaigns. Stakeholders are being called upon to uphold the Campaign Code of Conduct and discourage hate speech, inflammatory remarks, and political violence.

Candidates may still withdraw or form alliances until August 8, the final cut-off before ballot printing begins. The Commission has also confirmed it has budgeted for a potential presidential run-off should no candidate attain the required 50% plus one vote majority.
Reaffirming MEC’s dedication to a transparent and inclusive electoral process, Mtalimanja concluded: “Let us walk the road to the 2025 elections together, in peace, unity, and the spirit of democracy.”

Morgue moves Lungu’s body to secret location

Morgue moves Lungu’s body to secret location

THE body of former president Edgar Lungu has been quietly moved from the place it had been deposited in South Africa to a secret location.

In a letter seen by Kalemba, Two Mountains Burial Services, the funeral parlour initially responsible for the body, informed the lawyers of the Zambian government that the remains were transferred on June 20 to Thom Kight and Company, another funeral service provider.

Although the letter identifies the new funeral service provider by name, the exact location where Lungu’s body is being held has been deliberately kept under wraps.

Two Mountains said the decision was taken purely for security reasons after the family and the funeral parlour began receiving multiple public enquiries and noticed increased social media activity surrounding the location of the body.

“This decision was taken solely for security reasons, as we had by that time received multiple public enquiries and expressions of concern regarding the storage location of the body.”

“Additionally, various comments had begun circulating on social media regarding this sensitive matter,” wrote the funeral service provider.

Two Mountains requested that the information be kept on a “strictly need to know basis” due to the heightened media attention and the delicate nature of the situation.

The company disclosed that the Lungu family has been informed of the transfer and is said to be fully aware of the new arrangements.

The new funeral provider, Thom Kight and Company, has been instructed to release the body only with court approval.

The legal fallout began shortly after, when lawyers for the Zambian government rushed to the Pretoria High Court on July 2, seeking to urgently amend a previous court order that they believed didn’t go far enough in preventing the removal of the body from South Africa.

In their court filing, the government’s attorneys, VFV Attorneys, explained that they had received information suggesting there were plans to relocate the late former president’s remains outside the country. Given the urgency, they approached the court without notifying the other parties, a legal move known as applying ex parte.

The matter was heard in private by Justice Myburgh AJ, who granted the variation of the order, making it clear that the body cannot be moved beyond South Africa without court approval.

Both the Lungu family’s lawyers and Two Mountains had previously believed the original court order did not explicitly block such a transfer, but the latest ruling has now removed that ambiguity.

VFV Attorneys have since confirmed that the updated court order has been shared with the parties involved, including Thom Kight & Company and that the body may not be released to anyone unless authorised by the court.

Yesterday, the Zambian government asked  the South African High Court to allow it access to the morgue where Lungu’s remains are being kept for purposes of verification and identification.

“UPND MUST GO! – Njobvu Slams Ruling Party as a ‘Total Failure’, Says They Belong in Opposition”

“UPND MUST GO! – Njobvu Slams Ruling Party as a ‘Total Failure’, Says They Belong in Opposition”

Democratic Union President Ackim Anthony Njobvu has delivered a searing critique of the United Party for National Development (UPND), claiming the ruling party is “better suited for the opposition benches” and has “fundamentally failed the Zambian people.”

In a strongly worded statement released today, Njobvu accused the UPND of betraying public trust and reversing its legacy of effective opposition politics by embracing damaging fiscal decisions, celebrating foreign loans, and ignoring massive illicit financial outflows.

“The UPND is not a party that should remain in power,” Njobvu declared. “They performed exceptionally when they were in opposition, speaking out against injustice and holding those in power accountable. But now, they have become the very problem they once fought against.”

He cited recent controversial legislative decisions, including the introduction and defense of unpopular bills, as proof that the ruling party has lost its moral compass.

“Their failure to save or revise key bills some of which were clearly rejected by citizens is a clear sign they’re no longer aligned with the will of the people,” Njobvu said. “Instead of listening, they bulldoze. Instead of reforming, they are deforming governance.”

Njobvu further criticized the UPND government for what he called “reckless financial celebration” of foreign debt.

“How does a government celebrate receiving a $184 million IMF loan while completely ignoring that $3.5 billion is illegally leaving the country every year?” he asked. “That shows you they’re borrowing not because we lack resources but because they lack vision and discipline.”

He described the recent move to push for increased domestic borrowing in the supplementary budget, just six months before year-end, as “alarming” and “irresponsible.”

“They’re running this economy like a teenager with a new credit card spending recklessly, borrowing carelessly, and pretending all is well,” said Njobvu.

The opposition leader also touched on what he described as a “diplomatic embarrassment” in the ongoing dispute between the government and the family of late President Edgar Lungu regarding the repatriation and burial of his remains.

“The continued impasse with the family over something as sensitive as the body of a former Head of State has damaged Zambia’s image globally,” Njobvu said. “It is proof of poor leadership, insensitivity, and arrogance.”

Summing up his statement, Njobvu called on Zambians to “reconsider” the UPND’s position in next year’s general elections.

“This party must not be considered to continue in power next year,” he said bluntly. “Let them go back to the opposition where they truly thrived. The UPND is not a ruling party it is an opposition party that has lost its way in government.”

Zambian presidential hopeful, Harry Kalaba, gains diplomatic momentum ahead of 2026 elections

Zambian presidential hopeful, Harry Kalaba, gains diplomatic momentum ahead of 2026 elections

As Zambia approaches a critical general election in 2026, Harry Kalaba, leader of the opposition Citizens First Party and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, is emerging as a leading figure in the country’s democratic renewal.

Kalaba’s recent diplomatic outreach across East Africa and Europe signals his intention to strengthen Zambia’s regional integration and reposition the nation as a reliable partner on the global stage.

In a high-level regional tour, Mr. Kalaba met with veteran Kenyan political leader Raila Odinga, held diplomatic consultations with officials from the American Embassy in Uganda, and engaged with the European Union Delegation. These meetings reflect growing international interest in Kalaba’s candidacy and his reform-driven agenda focused on transparency, economic inclusion, and democratic integrity.

“Zambia’s challenges — from youth unemployment to public debt and governance deficits — require not only domestic resolve but also international cooperation,” Kalaba stated. “We are engaging global partners to restore Zambia’s international standing and attract the investment and policy partnerships needed to improve the lives of ordinary citizens.”

Kalaba, widely known for his principled resignation from the former government over corruption concerns, brings a strong record of ethical leadership and diplomacy. As Foreign Affairs Minister, he helped steer Zambia through a period of political transition and represented the country with distinction on the international stage.

His growing support from regional leaders and Western diplomats is viewed by analysts as a signal of confidence in his ability to offer a credible, progressive alternative to Zambia’s current political establishment. Kalaba’s platform emphasizes sustainable development, investment in education and infrastructure, and improved governance mechanisms to ensure equitable resource distribution.

With Zambia’s political climate increasingly volatile and public trust in state institutions waning, Kalaba’s international engagements suggest a deliberate effort to foster stability and rebuild confidence — both at home and abroad.

WE WILL DEFEND OUR INTERESTS IN ZAMBIA – CHINA

WE WILL DEFEND OUR INTERESTS IN ZAMBIA – CHINA

The Chinese Embassy in Zambia has issued a stern warning that it will defend China’s interests and reputation in the country following the release of a critical documentary by News Diggers.

Reacting to the documentary titled “Chinese Investments in Zambia: the Good, the Bad and the Dangerous,” the Chinese Embassy accused the media house of bias and sensationalism. The statement, released by the Embassy spokesperson, described the documentary as a deliberate attempt to discredit China’s investments and its longstanding relationship with Zambia.

“China supports freedom of the press, but we will not allow our reputation to be damaged under the guise of media freedom,” the statement reads. “We support the just act by the Chinese community in Zambia to protect their reputation and legitimate rights and interests.”

In what is seen as a clear warning, the Embassy emphasized that Chinese investors in Zambia deserve respect and should not be subjected to what it termed as “malicious sensationalization” or “distorted” reporting. It said biased narratives would not be tolerated and affirmed China’s readiness to defend its image and investments.

China further accused the documentary of linking Chinese nationals to criminal cases not related to any investment activity, suggesting that this undermines the spirit of cooperation between the two countries. The Embassy stressed that “occasional individual cases” should not overshadow the broader record of positive bilateral collaboration.

“Chinese projects are everywhere in Zambia, contributing to infrastructure, energy, health, and economic growth. Attempts to slander these contributions will not succeed,” the statement said.

The Embassy also reminded the public of China’s historic role in Zambia’s liberation and development, including its support during the colonial era, the construction of the TAZARA Railway, and recent infrastructure and energy projects worth billions of dollars.

As debate grows around the influence of foreign investments in Zambia, China’s message is now clear: it will not sit back as its activities are questioned or criticized unfairly.

The statement concluded by calling for mutual respect, equal treatment, and protection of what it called “the outcomes of six decades of cooperation.” It added: “Chinese businesses expect to be welcomed with the due respect and appreciation they deserve.”

While News Diggers has not yet issued a formal response, the documentary has reignited discussion over transparency, labor practices, and sovereignty in Zambia’s foreign partnerships with China now firmly on the defensive.

STUDENT NABBED FOR WRITING GCE EXAM ON BEHALF OF FRIEND

STUDENT NABBED FOR WRITING GCE EXAM ON BEHALF OF FRIEND

Mazabuka, July 30, 2025 – A 19-year-old man has been arrested in Mazabuka for engaging in examination malpractice after he was found impersonating another candidate during the ongoing General Certificate of Education (GCE) examinations.

According to a statement issued by Southern Province Deputy Police Commissioner Moono F. Namalongo, the incident occurred on July 29, 2025, at Nanga Secondary School. Police say Lathen Choobe, of Hillside Compound in Mazabuka, was caught writing the Biology examination on behalf of Elvis Lwiindi of Mulonga Extension Compound.

The matter was reported to Mazabuka Police Station by Mr. Boyd Haluyasa, Headteacher of Nanga Secondary School, who handed over the suspect after the incident came to light.

Investigations revealed that after completing the exam, Choobe mistakenly submitted the answer script along with a National Registration Card (NRC) bearing Lwiindi’s name. Realising his error, he approached the Headteacher to retrieve the NRC from the sealed examination documents. The Headteacher, however, refused and instead advised him to report the matter to the police to obtain documentation for a replacement NRC.

Police say Choobe later attempted to obtain a new NRC at Nanga Primary School, where registration was underway, but failed to provide details that matched the card. He was reportedly observed making phone calls to the actual owner of the NRC in an attempt to gather the correct information, raising suspicion among registration officers who then alerted the police.

Upon being interviewed, Choobe allegedly confessed to the offence, stating that he had been paid K1,000 by Lwiindi to sit the exam on his behalf.

He is currently in police custody at Mazabuka Police Station, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend the alleged accomplice, Elvis Lwiindi.

Police have warned that examination malpractice is a serious offence and reiterated their commitment to upholding the integrity of the examination process.

PARLEY COMMITTEE REJECTS BILL 13

PARLEY COMMITTEE REJECTS BILL 13

PARLIAMENT has rejected the now infamous Lands and Deeds Registry (Amendment) Bill No 13 of 2025, branding it a threat to property rights as it would undermine land security tenure.

The Committee on Agriculture, Lands and Natural Resources on the Lands and Deeds Registry (Amendment) Bill No 13 has warned that granting unilateral powers to an individual has the potential for abuse and undue influence by those in higher positions and with political power.

Sources from Parliament have disclosed that the Committee on Agriculture, Lands and Natural Resources has rejected Bill 13 and has since recommended its deferment for further and wider consultations.

According to the sources, the Committee, comprising nine members and chaired by Kasauta Michelo, the Bwengwa UPND Member of Parliament is gravely concerned most of the stakeholders that appeared before it were never consulted when government came up with Bill 13.

The sources are of the fears that proceeding to enact a bill as sensitive as Bill 13 into law would negatively affect citizens.

“The Committee (on Agriculture, Lands and Natural Resources) is concerned that the Minister, unlike the Chief Registrar is a political appointee, who may lack the technical expertise and legal training to reverse or confirm the decision of the Chief Registrar on complex matters of land and may politicise the process, leading to decisions being made on political considerations rather than strictly on the law and facts,” one of the sources said.

The sources stated that the Committee has since recommended that government should consider to immediately defer the now rejected Bill 13 for further and wider consultations with stakeholders.

The sources explained that the Committee had observed that the proposed Bill 13 under clause 2 was directly in contradiction with the principle of guaranteed property ownership that was provided for in sections 33 and 34 of the Principal Act, which states that a certificate of title was conclusive evidence of ownership and was not easily impeachable.

“In fact the Committee has noted that granting an administrative officer in the form of Chief Registrar, with the powers to cancel a certificate of title, especially on grounds of fraud or error, will fundamentally undermine the security of tenure and property rights,” the source said.

They stated that it was the view of the Committee that the definition of an ‘interest person’ in Bill 13 was too broad and risked being interpreted to include any person, including persons with no direct legal or equitable interest in the land.

GOVT DEMAND TO INSPECT ECL’S BODY, JUST TO BE SURE, BECAUSE EVER SINCE HE DIED NO ONE HAS SEEN HIS BODY APART FROM WHAT BAESTHER HAS BEEN TELLING US
===================
This is Edgar Lungu who was once accused of changing his identity before, what if it was true and he is doing it again. This is the argument of Govt.

The Attorney General of the Republic of Zambia has made an urgent application to Mashele Attorneys, lawyers for the Edgar Lungu family, to be granted permission for the representative of the State to see and inspect the body of the late President.

In a letter dated 29th July 2025  VFV ATTORNEYS, lawyers stated that for this purpose, a representative had traveled to Pretoria for this purpose and was available beginning 29th July 2025 onwards to inspect the body of the late President.

The lawyers threatened that if permission was not granted they will beseech the Gauteng High Court,Pretoria Division to compel the family to give them permission.

The lawyers stated that they were seeking consent to attend at the funeral parlour where the body of the late President Lungu is currently being kept, “for the purpose of
identifying and authenticating the identity of the body!”.

In its order of 25th June 2025, the High Court stated that; “Only the First to Seventh (Widow, Family and Spokesperson) Respondent’s are permitted to visit and to inspect and/or allow further individuals to visit and to inspect the body of the late President”.

Below is the Letter from VFV, lawyers for the Attorney General.

THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA VS ESTHER LUNGU AND 7 OTHERS –
CASE NUMBER: 096565/2025

We refer to the court order issued by Deputy Judge President Ledwaba dated 25 June 2025, as amended on 26 June 2025.

2. In terms of the said order, we hereby formally request your consent to make the necessary arrangements for a representative of our client, to attend at the funeral parlour
where the body of the late President Lungu is currently being kept, for the purpose of
identifying and authenticating the identity of the body.

Our client’s representative is available to carry out this process on any day from today onwards to Friday, 1 August 2025, at a time convenient to all parties concerned.

Kindly
indicate your availability and provide any specific requirements or conditions for access, if
applicable.

We wish to make it clear that we will have no objection if a representative or representatives of your clients would be present at all times.

4. We submit that this process will not cause any harm or prejudice to the family. It is a necessary and respectful step to bring certainty to a matter of public and personal
importance. In the circumstances, a refusal or failure to provide the necessary consent will regrettably compel our client to question the bona fides of the family’s position, and we will be left with no alternative but to approach the court for appropriate relief.

We trust,
however, that this will not be necessary.

5.We look forward to your urgent response so that appropriate arrangements may be finalised without delay.

Yours faithfully,
VFV ATTORNEYS

Why should the ZAMMSA audit report be secretive? – Fred M’membe

Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, through his Director General of the Drug Enforcement Commission, says the ZAMMSA forensic audit report is not for public consumption?

If it is not for public consumption, then who will consume it? Hichilema! But he is full. He has too much on his plate to consume – Edgar’s body, FIC report, and so on and so forth!

Why should the ZAMMSA audit report be secretive? Do they want Zambians to lobby the United States Ambassador to Zambia to release their own report?

BILL 13: A Continuation of Poor Governance – David Sichone

BILL 13: A Continuation of Poor Governance

By David Sichone

Much like Bill 7 before it, Bill 13 is yet another ill-conceived legislative proposal that raises serious concerns.

With the UPND government, it is crucial to ask who stands to benefit from these bills, right up to the individual and group political and business interests of those in power.

The presidency, at the head of Cabinet is involved. So is the Speaker, whose leanings have become all too apparent, especially after her ruling that Bill 7 can still proceed in parliament despite the Constitutional Court declaring its initiation and process unconstitutional.

It is therefore reasonable to conclude that the motives behind Bill 13, as for Bill 7 before it, are far from altruistic or in the public interest.

President HH entered office in 2021 on a strong platform of promises to correct what was wrong under the Patriotic Front (PF). Among those promises was that the state would repossess land allocated to individuals after suspected illegal degazetting of Forest 27 in Lusaka. Yet, once in power, his government has failed to follow through on this commitment to right what was perceived as violations of procedure for degazetting land.

Now, four years later, his government is proposing to expand the powers of the Registrar of Titles and Deeds. While this office is distinct from the Registrar of Societies, it is also a junior office susceptible to manipulation by senior government officials and the ruling party, as has haooened to the former. The Registrar of Societies has been used by the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND), through the Ministry of Home Affairs, to destabilise the largest opposition party, PF, through arbitrary administrative imposing of stooges as office holders, while frustrating efforts by legitimate office holders to resolve leadership wrangles.

Bringung such potential manipulatiins ti the issue of cancellation of title deeds on land will be catastrophic, and has suspicious motives. for similar abuses.

Given this context, who can trust legislation coming from the UPND? The rapid succession of bills suggests a scramble to consolidate power and resources before the end of their term, which is beginning to look more likely for 2026.

Zambians have grown disillusioned, withdrawing their goodwill from a government they feel has betrayed them. The UPND has quickly descended into a group perceived to be  a corrupt regime.

Continuing to churn out such dubious bills as Bill 7, and now Bill 13, will simply seal their quick exit.

Zambians are no longer gullible.

ERB DEVELOPING REAL-TIME FUEL TRACKING TO CURB HOARDING

ERB DEVELOPING REAL-TIME FUEL TRACKING TO CURB HOARDING

THE Energy Regulation Board has disclosed that it is developing a real-time monitoring system to track fuel stock levels, aimed at  preventing oil marketing companies from hoarding fuel during price changes.

ERB Director General Elijah Sichone has stated that the new platform will provide live updates on fuel quantities across the country, strengthening compliance checks and curbing artificial scarcity.

Engineer Sichone tells Phoenix News that this will enable ERB to detect discrepancies and take swift action.

He explains that the system will strengthen compliance checks, ensuring that oil marketing companies adhere to regulations and will enhance transparency in fuel stock monitoring, enabling ERB to take informed decisions.

Engineer Sichone adds that under the existing regulations, any station unable to sell fuel for more than 48 hours must provide valid reasons or face enforcement action but the computerized system will strengthen compliance checks and protect consumers from unjustified price movements.

DPP ATTRIBUTES ANTI-CORRUPTION GAINS TO ESTABLISHMENT OF ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL CRIMES COURT AND INTER-AGENCY COORDINATION

DPP ATTRIBUTES ANTI-CORRUPTION GAINS TO ESTABLISHMENT OF ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL CRIMES COURT AND INTER-AGENCY COORDINATION

DIRECTOR of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri says the recently released Financial Intelligence Centre trends report, which recorded $3.5 billion in illicit financial flows, demonstrates that government policies enacted to combat corruption are yielding results.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Phiri attributes the findings to the establishment of the Economic and Financial Crimes Court and enhanced capacity building for investigators and prosecutors under an inter-agency coordination framework as key factors driving more efficient case management and successful prosecutions.

He however says although public sector corruption cases declined from 55 in 2023 to 40 in 2024, the reduction is marginal and needs vigilance and commitment to deepen anti graft measures until corruption is decisively curtailed.

Meanwhile, Chapter One Foundation Executive Director Josiah Kalala says while Zambia has taken some steps to combat corruption such as increased investigative reporting and limited asset recoveries, the efforts remain largely superficial.

Mr. Kalala says it is difficult to indicate an improvement because whatever is contained in the report does not directly disclose who is involved thereby undermining the principles of transparency and accountability.

68 SUICIDE CASES RECORDED IN EASTERN PROVINCE SO FAR IN 2025

The Zambia Police Service in Eastern Province have recorded 68 su!c!de cases between January 1st and July 24th, 2025.

Among the deceased were nine women and three juveniles. Of the 56 men, one was a teacher.

Provincial Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba warned that the actual number may be higher, as some cases go unreported.

Investigations by Breeze FM have revealed additional suspected cases. In addition to the confirmed case of Richard Shumba, aged 44, a teacher from the Katopola area who took his life on June 12th, 2025, two other educators are believed to have died by suicide, one in Chipata and another in Petauke.

Mr. Mweemba told Breeze FM News that Sinda District recorded the highest number of cases with 12, followed by Petauke with 11, Lundazi with 8, Chama with 7, Katete with 6, and Chipata and Mambwe with 5 each.

Nyimba and Chadiza each recorded 4 cases, while Vubwi had 3. Chasefu recorded 2 cases, and Mwami Police Post recorded 1.

Mr. Mweemba expressed concern, stating that it is worrying to lose people in such a manner, especially considering that the year is only halfway through.

He urged individuals to seek peaceful resolutions to their problems instead of taking their own lives.

Doctor details rape victim’s distress in “John General” r@pe case

Doctor details rape victim’s distress in “John General” rape case

A MEDICAL doctor has told the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court that the woman who reported being raped by pastor John Nundwe, also known as Bishop John General of Miracle Impact International, appeared distressed and traumatised when she sought medical attention.

However, the doctor’s testimony also highlighted inconsist

encies and a lack of acute physical injuries.

University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Head of the Sexual Gender-Based Violence Unit Rokaya Ginwalla, testified that the complainant, identified as EN, visited the unit on November 23, 2023, the day after the alleged incident.

Dr Ginwalla observed EN’s demeanor as distressed and traumatised.

Despite the complainant’s apparent distress, Dr Ginwalla told Resident Magistrate Amy Masoja Chilangwa that a medical examination revealed no acute genital injuries, and the victim’s hymen was found to be normal.

Furthermore, a swab for spermatozoa yielded no sperm in the victim’s vagina.

Dr Ginwalla offered several explanations for the absence of sperm, including the possibility that the victim was menstruating, which could wash away sperm.

She also suggested that there might have been no ejaculation during the alleged act.

The doctor also explained that it is difficult to find active injuries on a sexually active woman.

“The victim told me she had sex with her husband four days prior to the incident.”

Ginwalla said the other reason why there was no sperms on the victims genitals is that she bathed before she visited the hospital.

“The other possibility is that the time the husband came and allegedly found them in the act, there could be no ejaculation,” added the witness.

The court heard Dr Ginwalla recount the victim’s statement from November 23, 2023.

The survivor told Dr Ginwalla that an unknown person who is a pastor came to pray for her.

She stated that the pastor, accompanied by another individual who remained in the sitting room, asked to see the rooms in the house.

According to Dr. Ginwalla’s testimony, the victim alleged that upon reaching a spare bedroom, the pastor insisted that he wanted to have sexual intercourse with her.

She claimed he then forcefully had sex with her without using a condom and that her husband arrived home during the alleged assault.

The victim further told the doctor that the pastor then screamed for the person in the sitting room to bring a gun before fleeing without clothes, leaving behind his clothes and car.

The victim then bathed and changed her clothes.

During cross-examination, defense lawyer Elijah Siatwambo questioned Dr Ginwalla on her assessment of distress, to which she responded it was “a mere observation.”

Siatwambo then pointed out an inconsistency between Dr Ginwalla’s testimony and the victim’s prior court statement.

While Dr Ginwalla testified that the victim told her they went into the bedroom together, Siatwambo stated that the victim had told the court she found the accused naked in the spare bedroom.

Dr Ginwalla confirmed the inconsistency.

Another defense lawyer, Yokonia Daka, asked Dr Ginwalla if she agreed that the complaint and the medical report’s findings did not corroborate, to which she responded in the affirmative.

The trial is set to continue today…https://kalemba.news/court/doctor-details-rape-victims-distress-in-john-general-rape-case/

TANZANIA BANS FOREIGNERS FROM RUNNING SMALL BUSINESSES IN THE COUNTRY

TANZANIA BANS FOREIGNERS FROM RUNNING SMALL BUSINESSES IN THE COUNTRY

The government of Tanzania has banned foreigners from conducting 15 small- and medium-sized businesses in the country, a move that could force out many Kenyan businesspeople operating and aspiring to establish businesses in the country.

According to a notice released by Tanzania’s Minister for Industry and Trade, Selemani Saidi Jafo, the businesses fall under the mining, tourism, agriculture, environment, and technology sectors.

The businesses include mobile money transfers, repair of mobile phones and electronic devices, salon businesses (unless they are conducted in a hotel or for tourism purposes), home, office, and environmental cleanliness, and small-scale mining.

Others include postal and parcel delivery services, tour guiding, establishing and operating radio and TV stations, operating museums and curio shops, broking in businesses and real estate, and clearing and forwarding services.

Foreigners have also been banned from farming, crop purchasing operations, ownership or operation of gambling machines or devices, except within casinos, and ownership and operation of micro and small industries.

A foreigner who is found conducting these businesses will be liable to a fine of up to Tsh10 million (Ksh502,927) and a prison term not exceeding six months.

According to the minister, any Tanzanian citizen who is found helping foreigners conduct such businesses will be convicted and slapped with a three-month prison sentence, in addition to a fine of Tsh5 million (Ksh251,463).

The announcement comes days after the Tanzania Ministry of Finance, in a notice earlier this month, announced that foreigners intending to travel to the country will, from next year, be required to pay almost Ksh5,700 to purchase the mandatory travel insurance for tourists. According to the Ministry, the move intends to relieve the burden on the country’s public healthcare systems.

The directive excludes citizens from East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries; however, travellers entering the country from outside the EAC/SADC could still be required to pay the fee.

The insurance was part of Tanzania’s 2025/2026 fiscal year agenda but was moved to January 2026 to create more room for consultations with stakeholders.

Molefe AK-47 Linked to 10 High-Profile Murder Cases

South African police are investigating 10 high-profile murder cases connected to a single AK-47 rifle, with businessman Katiso “KT” Molefe at the center of the probe. On Tuesday, Molefe faced new charges in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court for the 2022 murder of musician Hector Buthelezi, known as DJ Vintos, adding to his existing charges for the murders of Oupa Sefoka, known as DJ Sumbody, and Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart.

The AK-47, along with three pistols, has been forensically linked to multiple killings. DJ Vintos was gunned down in a drive-by shooting outside a nightclub in Orlando East, Soweto, in March 2022. The same weapon was used in the November 2022 assassination of DJ Sumbody and his two bodyguards in Woodmead, Johannesburg, and the April 2024 killing of Swart, believed to be a case of mistaken identity tied to a Transnet tender scandal. Additionally, Molefe’s three co-accused—Michael Pule Tau, Tiego Floyd Mabusela, and Musa Kekana—face charges for the March 2023 murder of businessman Don Tindleni, killed in a hail of bullets on the N1 highway.

National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed that ballistic evidence ties the firearms to at least four confirmed murders, with investigations ongoing into six more cases. “We are investigating 10 high-profile cases where these firearms are being linked to, so now we are at number four,” Mathe said outside the court. She noted that additional evidence beyond ballistics strengthens the case against Molefe and his co-accused, who are believed to be part of a broader criminal syndicate.

Molefe, previously out on bail for Swart’s murder, was arrested on July 21, 2025, in Sandton, alongside the alleged hitmen. The state is working to centralize the four murder cases—DJ Sumbody, DJ Vintos, Don Tindleni, and Armand Swart—into a single trial. Molefe’s bail application has been postponed to August 6, while the case is set for further investigation on September 18.

The arrests have drawn significant attention, with allegations of political interference and corruption surfacing. The SAPS Political Killings Task Team and Gauteng Organised Crime Unit continue to probe the syndicate’s operations, with Mathe indicating that further arrests are likely as investigations progress.

Eswatini probes Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala over alleged fraud and false ID claims

Eswatini probes Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala over alleged fraud and false ID claims

Authorities in Eswatini have launched a fraud investigation involving Vusumuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala, who is also implicated in alleged police corruption here in South Africa.

Police Commissioner Vusi Masango confirmed on Tuesday that Matlala is believed to possess an Eswatini identity document, and officials are working to verify its authenticity. “We are cooperating with South African authorities to determine the full scope of Matlala’s activities,” said Masango.

Matlala is currently behind bars at Pretoria’s Kgosi Mampuru prison, facing charges of attempted murder. He was previously linked by KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi to corrupt dealings within the South African police force.

The case has raised alarm over cross-border criminal syndicates and potential identity fraud, with investigators in both countries tightening cooperation.

Further details are expected as the Eswatini probe unfolds.

Private Xavier Raynard, a SANDF soldier from the 10 Anti-Aircraft Regiment, was killed on July 27, 2025, during a routine border patrol near the Limpopo River in Musina, close to the Zimbabwe border.

He was trampled to death by a herd of elephants while on Operation Corona duties, approximately 300 meters from the SANDF’s Madimbo base.

His body was recovered the following day, along with his service weapon, and the incident is under investigation by SANDF authorities in collaboration with environmental and wildlife officials.

Raynard’s family in Kimberley, Northern Cape, has been notified, and psychosocial support is being provided to them and his unit.

Zimbabwe smashes tobacco records again

Zimbabwe has reached a historic milestone in its agricultural sector, recording an all-time high tobacco output of 350 million kilogrammes for the 2025 marketing season. This unprecedented achievement surpasses last year’s 296 million kilogrammes and reflects the continued growth and resilience of the country’s farmers.

The Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) confirmed that a total of 350,094,186kg of tobacco, worth US$1.16 billion, has been sold so far this season, marking the highest volume ever recorded in the country’s history. The figures were announced in the TIMB’s latest Auction and Contract Seasonal Sales update released in Harare yesterday.

Over the past four years, Zimbabwe’s tobacco industry has witnessed remarkable growth, with production rising from 184 million kg in 2021 to 213 million kg in 2022, then to 296 million kg in 2023, and now reaching the 350 million kg mark in 2025.

This surge in output is being attributed to a combination of factors, including increased participation by smallholder farmers, favourable weather, government-backed reforms, and enhanced contract farming models. More than 127,000 growers registered for the 2025 season, with an estimated 85 percent of them being small-scale farmers. Notably, over 80 percent of the tobacco produced this year was under contract, offering farmers guaranteed markets and access to inputs.

The Government’s Tobacco Value Chain Transformation Plan, introduced in 2021, has been instrumental in supporting the sector. The plan seeks to increase annual production, promote value addition, and boost export earnings. It also forms part of Zimbabwe’s broader economic development strategy aimed at creating a US$5 billion tobacco industry.

Tobacco Growers Association chairman Mr George Seremwe praised the commitment of farmers, calling this season a remarkable success. “This year, we have made tremendous strides in tobacco growing. Farmers have shown that they are a formidable force in the economy of Zimbabwe,” he said. Mr Seremwe stressed the need for local support and affordable funding to sustain profitability and encourage deeper involvement in value addition processes.

Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development permanent secretary, Professor Obert Jiri, applauded farmers’ efforts and urged all players in the industry to focus on consolidating gains, improving efficiency, and investing in value addition and beneficiation. “The dedication and hard work of our tobacco farmers cannot be overstated. Our next step is to prioritise value addition and beneficiation,” Prof Jiri said.

As the tobacco marketing season nears its end, Zimbabwe’s farmers are not only celebrating record-breaking numbers but also positioning the country as a dominant player in the global tobacco market. With sustained support, innovation and investment, the industry is set to continue its upward trajectory and contribute significantly to national economic growth.

‘White Zimbabweans are returning’

Many Zimbabweans who left the country at the peak of economic and political turmoil, and settled in numerous countries, including South Africa, are now investing back home, while others are returning to their ancestral nation.

These were the views expressed by Zanu PF national spokesperson, Christopher Mutsvangwa, who was recently in South Africa for the 2025 Liberation Movements Summit hosted by the African National Congress (ANC) in Kempton Park.

The summit concluded on Monday and was hosted under the theme: “Defending the liberation gains, advancing integrated socio-economic development, strengthening solidarity for a better Africa.”

Southern African liberation movements, including the ANC, People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), Namibia’s ruling party, the South West Africa People’s Organisation (Swapo); Mozambique’s Frente de Libertação de Moçambique (Frelimo); Zanu-PF, and Tanzania’s ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) were represented at high level at the summit in Gauteng.

Mutsvangwa, in an interview with broadcaster Newzroom Afrika, was asked for his views on the prevailing political and economic situation in Zimbabwe, which has resulted in the extensive migration of Zimbabweans into South Africa, estimated in the millions, sparking tensions in South African communities.

In his response, Mutsvangwa said Zimbabweans in South Africa are seeking greener pastures, but the situation back home has significantly improved.

“It is the search for better pastures, that is natural. South Africa had the advantage of having comparative access to capital as a white apartheid state. In colonial times, capital into Africa followed white, and South Africa has the biggest white population on the African continent. All those Western countries gave South Africa a certain edge in access to capital.

“We in Zimbabwe/Rhodesia were second in terms of our white population. We also had comparatively better access to capital than any other African country, and we had migration of labour from Mozambique, Malawi, and Zambia into Zimbabwe.

The former Zimbabwean ambassador to the People’s Republic of China said people follow where they see an advantage in terms of development and capital.

“Now things have changed. We are now having capital in a flat global world where China can supply capital, India can supply capital, Riyadh can supply capital, so we now have an Africa that is going to global markets, getting capital. That discrepancy in access to capital, which was the case for the colonial era, is beginning to disappear.

“You cannot believe it, there is now a seamless environment between life in Zimbabwe and life abroad. That is why our diaspora is coming back to Zimbabwe, putting a lot of money … our diaspora feels at home, they are now beginning to invest at home. For your information, the biggest diaspora migration is white.”

He said the white Zimbabweans who had fled the country at the onset of majority rule in 1980 make up a good number of the people moving back into the landlocked Southern African nation ruled by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“So the return of the white diaspora back to Zimbabwe is actually an indication that things are getting better in Zimbabwe. Remember we are operating the hardest currency in the world, the US dollar, and if you can make your economy succeed on the back of the US dollar, it means you are doing very well as a country,” said the War Veterans Association chairperson.

Speaking to IOL, Dr Alexander Rusero, head of the department of international relations and diplomacy at the Africa University situated in Mutare, Zimbabwe, said the landlocked country seemingly has its worst times behind it – economically and politically.

“I think in all fairness, Zimbabwe has had its bad tide and we are definitely past that in as much as the mess we were once in as a country is concerned. That explains why you hear an opposition voice. We are as good as not having an opposition in Zimbabwe, and if you want to look at Zimbabwe’s dynamics currently, just look at the balance of forces within Zanu-PF.

“With regards to the economy, like any post-colonial African state, we still have challenges with regards to unemployment. The Zimbabwe situation at the moment there is hardly anything to write home about, especially with regards to difficulties. If we are to put that on scale – where are versus where we are coming from, I think we are performing fairly well, in as far as the Zimbabwean standard is concerned.

On the political front, Rusero said the country has seen stability after the exit of former president Robert Mugabe.

“We are actually in the most stable political climate post Mugabe, save to say it is unhealthy for a polity not to have a viable and vibrant opposition., as is currently the case. We do not have an opposition, and what happens is that protagonists in Zanu-PF will start quarrelling against each other because there is no external force which would make them unite and fight against an external threat.”

He said temperatures within Zimbabwe have normalised, which has paved the way for the country to slip from the regional and international agendas where it was perennially perched due to political violence and intolerance.

With regards to the millions of Zimbabweans based outside the country’s borders, Rusero said there is no guarantee that they will return home, as some have permanently settled in the countries they moved to.

“We are living in an era of epic human movement. It is not always the case that people migrate so that, at some point, they have to come back. We wouldn’t have had whites migrating from Europe to Africa. The whole idea is that you have to be where opportunities are thriving. The world, the global economy, is shrunk at the moment, and as much as people might have nostalgia for coming home, home is where the heart is.

“Zimbabwe is pretty much very stable, but also still has challenges with regard to opportunities, an environment that is hassle-free. In Zimbabwe, you have to hustle, but if it is between life and death, between stability and instability, you would rather be home and be stable, safe, as opposed to being away,” Rusero told IOL.

“The Zimbabwe of 2008 it is a gone Zimbabwe. The country is relatively calm, relatively free, and I think we are experiencing a modicum of some economic and political stability, which has become unusual insofar as Zimbabwe’s polity is concerned.
