Baltasar Ebang Engonga sentenced to 18 years in prison

Baltasar Ebang Engonga, the former Director-General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), has been sentenced to 18 years in prison following a high-profile corruption trial.

The verdict, delivered on June 30, 2025, comes after Engonga was found guilty of embezzlement of public funds, illicit enrichment, and abuse of office.

The national prosecutor accused Engonga of orchestrating an elaborate scheme to siphon off public funds during his tenure as head of the Directorate General of Insurance and Reinsurance (DGAR) from 2015 to 2020, in collaboration with other senior officials.

The trial, held in a Malabo court, detailed charges including 8 years for embezzlement, 4 years and 5 months for illicit enrichment, and 6 years and 1 day for abuse of office.

Engonga’s legal team denounced the charges as politically motivated, challenging the credibility of the prosecution’s evidence, but the court upheld the sentence.

The trial has drawn significant attention, concluding a 10-month detention at the notorious Black Beach Prison, where Engonga has been held since his arrest in September 2024.

In November 2024, Engonga gained fame when over 400 explicit videos surfaced, showing him engaging in videos with multiple women, including relatives of government officials.

The videos, discovered during a fraud investigation, led to his suspension and legal proceedings for violating ethical standards.

The scandal prompted Vice-President Teodoro Obiang Mangue to announce the installation of surveillance cameras in government offices and the immediate suspension of officials engaging in such conduct.

Sean Diddy Comb found guilty on 2 out of 5 counts in sex trafficking and prostitution case as jury reaches verdict

On July 2, 2025, a Manhattan federal jury found hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs guilty on two of five charges in his high-profile sex trafficking and racketeering trial. After a seven-week trial and over 12 hours of deliberation, the jury convicted Combs on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution related to his former girlfriends, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura and another woman referred to as “Jane.” He was acquitted of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy.

The guilty verdicts on counts three and five involve allegations that Combs arranged interstate travel for Ventura and “Jane” to engage in prostitution. Each count carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. The jury found Combs not guilty on counts one, two, and four, which included racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, charges that could have led to a life sentence.

Combs, 55, pleaded not guilty to all charges, with his defense arguing that his actions were part of a consensual “swinger lifestyle” and not criminal. The trial included testimony from Ventura and “Jane,” as well as evidence like a 2016 video allegedly showing Combs attacking Ventura in a hotel hallway. Despite the convictions, Combs appeared relieved in court, making a praying hands gesture to the jury and smiling at his family after the verdict was read.

The case, which began with Combs’ arrest in September 2024, has drawn significant attention, reshaping the public image of the Bad Boy Records founder. Combs still faces multiple civil lawsuits related to sexual assault and abuse allegations. Sentencing details and potential appeals are yet to be announced.

ZAMBIA EMERGES AS A STANDOUT PERFORMER IN UN INVESTMENT REPORT 2025

ZAMBIA EMERGES AS A STANDOUT PERFORMER IN UN INVESTMENT REPORT 2025

…FDI inflows into Zambia surged from just $0.1 billion in 2023 to $1.2 billion in 2024…

By Dingindaba Jonah Buyoya

Zambia has made an unexpected leap forward on the global investment stage, according to the recently released

World Investment Report 2025 by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

The country, long grappling with underwhelming foreign direct investment (FDI) figures, recorded one of the strongest turnarounds among developing economies, driven largely by renewed interest in its copper industry and budding digital infrastructure.

FDI inflows into Zambia surged from just $0.1 billion in 2023 to $1.2 billion in 2024, a twelvefold increase that positioned the country among Africa’s top gainers. The report attributes this spike to rising demand for minerals, especially copper, which remains central to green technologies such as electric vehicles and renewable energy storage.

One of the year’s most prominent deals, the $1.1 billion acquisition of a majority stake in Mopani Copper Mines by UAE-based Delta Mining, cemented Zambia’s return to global investor radars.

The investment rebound is particularly significant against the backdrop of a wider global downturn. While international project finance slumped globally and many developing countries saw flat or declining inflows, Zambia’s resource-led growth attracted investor confidence amid geopolitical and economic uncertainties.

But Zambia’s 2024 investment success wasn’t solely driven by mining. The country also made quiet but meaningful strides in the digital economy. It emerged as one of the few least developed and landlocked developing countries(LLDCs) to register positive growth in digital greenfield investment projects. Foreign investors showed growing interest in telecommunications infrastructure, data centres, and cloud services, signaling a diversification in Zambia’s investment profile beyond traditional extractives.

UNCTAD analysts singled out Zambia, along with Malawi and Rwanda, as among the only LDCs to post gains in greenfield investment, a forward-looking indicator of long-term investor sentiment. This resilience in project announcements suggests that Zambia is beginning to benefit from a more investor-friendly policy environment and strategic reforms aimed at improving ease of doing business.

However, the report also flagged headwinds. Large-scale infrastructure and renewable energy projects, key to Zambia’s long-term development, remain constrained by rising capital costs, currency volatility, and a challenging global financing environment. Still, off-grid renewable projects continued to attract concessional financing, keeping alive the country’s energy transition ambitions. This coincides with the recently launched 100MW Chisamba Solar Power Plant.

The World Investment Report 2025 paints a picture of Zambia in transition, from a country overshadowed by low investment flows to one cautiously stepping into the spotlight as a rising frontier market, particularly in minerals and digital infrastructure.

Whether this momentum can be sustained depends on the government’s ability to consolidate reforms, manage debt, and encourage a stable and transparent investment climate.

Isaac Mwanza has disputed the ConCourt’s ruling on Bill 7

CONCOURT’S RULING ON BILL NUMBER 7 DISPUTED

Governance expert ISAAC MWANZA has petitioned the Constitutional Court to overturn its recent ruling halting the Constitution Amendment process through Bill Number 7 of 2025.

In his petition, Mr. MWANZA argues that the Court’s majority judgement is inconsistent with Article 64(1) and Article 88(1) of the Constitution.

Additionally, he seeks a declaration that the judgement nullifying the Constitution Amendment Bill is in violation of Standing Orders 131, 132, 133, and 134 of the National Assembly.

Mr. MWANZA further contends that the judgement contradicts Section 2 of the Inquiries Act, which empowers the Republican President and Members of Parliament to propose bills to amend laws, including the Constitution.

The petition was filed with the Constitutional Court following the Court’s decision on June 27, 2025 to suspend the Constitution Amendment process under Bill Number 7 of 2025.

Kalaba demands to know if Freemasonry is now official Govt policy

IT’S A DEVILISH GATHERING, BISHOP NG’AMBI DENOUNCES MASONIC EVENT
… As Kalaba demands to know if Freemasonry is now official Govt policy

Praise Christian Centre International ministries founder Bishop Edgar Ng’ambi has denounced the ongoing Freemasonry conference in Livingstone as devilish, saying Zambia needs leaders who will defend Christianity in the same manner former Religious Affairs minister Godfridah Sumaili did.

And Citizens First (CF) leader Harry Kalaba has asked the UPND government to give a clear position to Zambians if accepting Freemasonry has now become an official government position.

In an interview Daily Revelation yesterday, Bishop Ng’ambi spoke fondly of how Sumaili served as as religious affairs minister in the PF administration of the late former president Edgar Lungu, saying she defended the Christian faith.

Asked if he expected the current leadership to speak out against the freemasonry conference, Bishop Ng’ambi said: “Well, when you deal with leadership you must also follow the patterns they set. When there was LGBTQ whatever, homosexual issues, they were hiding. They were not coming in the forefront until the people began to speak that we will not vote for you.”

On the Freemasonry in leadership circles, Bishop Ng’ambi mentioned the former Finance minister Ronald Penza, adding that: “And of course we hear rumours about this and that, about some of our leaders in the country and so they are there, though they refuse when you

WITHDRAW BILL 7 FROM PARLIAMENT, DR. M’MEMBE URGES GOVERNMENT

WITHDRAW BILL 7 FROM PARLIAMENT, DR. M’MEMBE URGES GOVERNMENT

…as he accuses the UPND of sponsoring people to get consent orders from Constitutional Court over Bill 7

Lusaka… Wednesday July 2, 2025 – Socialist Party (SP) leader Dr Fred M’membe has called on President Hakainde Hichilema to immediately withdraw Bill No. 7 of 2025 from the floor of the House.

Dr. M’membe has also accused the UPND of trying to sponsor some people to get consent orders from the Constitutional Court over Bill No. 7.

He says this constitution review process has failed and that it is time for Mr Hichilema for the first time probably in his life as a politician to backdown.

The SP leader said this when he and his General Secretary Dr Cosmas Musumali featured on Hot FM Radio’s ‘The Socialist Hour’ programme this morning.

“Mr Hakainde Hichilema must start by withdrawing that Bill from the floor of the House. It can’t continue! But he is trying to find ways to manipulate the process. Now they are even sponsoring people to try and get back to the Constitutional Court so that they can get some form of consent orders and so on,” he claimed.

“This constitution review process has failed. And it is time for Mr Hakainde Hichilema for the first time probably in his life as a politician to back down. The consultations he was having, those are not consultations where you call people to your office and say I am going ahead with this, I want to do this, you hate me, and so on, is that consultation? What he had with Civil Society Organisations, is that consultation? Even the people he has been sending around from his party and government, they have not gone to consult but they have gone to manipulate the people.”

He said there should be wider consultations with the people when amending the Republican Constitution.

“Constitutional review processes are not done that way. There has to be an Act of Parliament, stipulating how those consultations are being made. Where there is a Constituent Assembly, there has to be an Act of Parliament,” he added.

“What Mr Hichilema is trying to do has no nobility in it, it simply a way to try and manipulate his way and consolidate his power or increase the length of his stay in power. These are not consultations he is making, consultations are not done that way. Mr Hichilema has gotten his way far too long, there is need to consider the feelings of others. A country cannot be governed this way. There is need for humility, there is need for sensitivity, there is need to learn when to back down.”

And Dr Musumali said failure to widely consult the people means it cannot be a people driven constitution but a political party constitution.

“A constitution is a people’s document. These are the people of Zambia speaking and building consensus and agreeing on the fundamental laws that are going to govern their lives. If a constitution is manipulated by a political party, that stops being a Zambian Constitution. So the idea of consultations is is not just to sort of give credibility what a political party aims to achieve, the idea of consultations is to make it real that the people have a say in what the government is trying to make it look like and how they should be governed,” said Dr Musumali.

JUDGEMENT IN NAKACINDA DEFAMATION OF HH APPEAL SET FOR SEPT 9

JUDGEMENT IN NAKACINDA DEFAMATION OF HH APPEAL SET FOR SEPT 9

THE Lusaka High Court yesterday reserved judgement to September 9, 2025, in the appeal case of Patriotic Front Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda, who is challenging his conviction and 18-month jail term for defaming President Hakainde Hichilema.

Nakacinda was convicted on May 17, 2024, by Lusaka Magistrate Irene Wishimanga, who found him guilty of defaming the President. The charge is from a statement he made on December 13, 2021, while addressing PF supporters at the Lusaka High Court.

During the address, Nakacinda alleged that through his binoculars, he had observed President Hichilema summoning judges to his private residence to intimidate and coerce them to frustrate the PF’s legal matters.

He denied the charge, stating that his remarks were made in defence of democracy. However, Magistrate Wishimanga ruled that the statement amounted to defamation and sentenced him to 18 months imprisonment, citing the need to send a clear message to those who may seek to undermine the Judiciary, one of the three arms of government.

In his appeal, Nakacinda among other grounds argued that the lower court erred both in law and fact by interpreting his statement as an attack on the Judiciary and using that interpretation as a basis for the sentence.

During the appeal hearing before Judge Anna Malata-Ononuju, Nakacinda’s lawyer, Muluza Chongola, urged the court to set aside the conviction and sentence, stating that the findings of the lower court were not supported by the evidence on record. “We submit that the conviction and sentence should not be upheld. The appellant should be set free,” said Chongola.

In response, the State maintained that the lower court was on firm ground in convicting Nakacinda. It argued that the record clearly showed that the alleged words were uttered by him and that prosecution witnesses testified to the impact the statement had.

“The evidence on record demonstrates that the appellant’s words were defamatory and the trial court was correct in its findings,” submitted the State.

In reply, the defence insisted that the testimony of the prosecution witnesses did not justify the conviction, describing it as misplaced.

Kalaba ready to make HH former president by filling up gap left by Lungu – CF

Citizens First (CF) deputy secretary Dr Mwaba Kasese Bota says her party leader Harry Kalaba is ready to fill up the political vacuum left by late president Edgar Lungu and unite the opposition in order to make President Hakainde Hichilema a former president after the 2026 general elections.

And in a separate interview, CF leader Harry Kalaba said it was not normal for Zambia to be without a former president, therefore people must join hands to make President Hakainde Hichilema one after next year’s election.

In an interview with Daily Revelation yesterday, Bota said Kalaba was ready to fill up the void left by late president Lungu.

Zim Govt Spokesperson Breaks Silence on Claims Edgar Lungu Had a Zimbabwean Passport

Govt Spokesperson Breaks Silence on Claims Edgar Lungu Had a Zimbabwean Passport

Zimbabwe’s government has finally responded to growing speculation that the late former Zambian President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu, was using a Zimbabwean diplomatic passport at the time of his death in South Africa earlier this month.

The rumours emerged as tensions flared over where and how Lungu should be buried. While the Zambian government insists he must be laid to rest on home soil with full honours, Lungu’s family maintains that the late leader didn’t want current President Hakainde Hichilema anywhere near his funeral.

Govt Spokesperson Breaks Silence on Claims Edgar Lungu Had a Zimbabwean Passport
Amid the dispute, The Zambian Observer reported that Lungu may have travelled under the name “Tendai Munyaradzi” and cited court papers from the Gauteng High Court claiming that no Zambian died at the hospital on June 5, only a Zimbabwean with that name.

That fuelled speculation that Lungu was possibly travelling on a Zimbabwean passport to conceal his identity, prompting calls for the Zimbabwean government to clear the air.

On Tuesday, 1 July 2025, Zimbabwe’s Permanent Secretary for Information, Nick Mangwana, broke the silence. He firmly denied the rumours, saying Lungu had never held Zimbabwean nationality or a Zimbabwean diplomatic passport.

“We wish to categorically state that the late former Zambian President, Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu, did not hold a Zimbabwean passport or nationality. Any such suggestions are just mischievous falsehoods,” he wrote.

Zimbos React to Nick Mangwana’s Statement
The statement, however, sparked frustration among Zimbabweans online. Many felt the government waited too long to respond, allowing the rumour to gain traction and tarnish the country’s image. Others outright accused Mangwana of issuing a denial without substance or urgency.

Here are some of the reactions:

Zambian Government Prioritizes National Interest in Lungu Burial Dispute

Zambian Government Prioritizes National Interest in Lungu Burial Dispute

By Timmy

The Zambian government has expressed its commitment to resolving the burial dispute of former President Edgar Lungu in a manner that serves the national interest. Minister of Information and Media Cornelius Mweetwa stated that the government is pushing for an out-of-court settlement with the Lungu family to avoid a foreign court’s decision on the matter.

National Embarrassment Avoided
Mweetwa emphasized that allowing a foreign court to determine the burial site would be a national embarrassment. The government is determined to prioritize Zambia’s peace and unity, ensuring that the issue is resolved through dialogue and alternative dispute resolution.

Government’s Position
The government is willing to work with the Lungu family to find a solution that serves the national interest. Mweetwa stated that settling the dispute through alternative means will not necessarily leave everyone smiling, but it will produce an outcome that spares the country unnecessary shame.

Prioritizing National Unity
The government’s efforts demonstrate its commitment to national unity and peace. By prioritizing dialogue and alternative dispute resolution, the government aims to find a solution that reflects the spirit of unity and national interest.

GOVERNMENT RELEASES K 4 BILLION TO BOOST LOCAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

GOVERNMENT RELEASES K 4 BILLION TO BOOST LOCAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

July 2, 2025

LUSAKA – The New Dawn Government under the able leadership of Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, has announced the release of 4 billion for the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and the Cash for Work (CFW) Programme.

The release of these funds aims to accelerate service delivery and improve community livelihoods across the country.

Speaking at a press briefing this morning, Permanent Secretary (Administration) Dr. Gabriel Pollen Annouced that the ministry received the funding yesterday from the Ministry of Finance and National Planning, including K400 million for CDF and K333.3 million for CFW.

This is part of the K2.7 billion and K1.3 billion respectively allocated for the year 2025.

“These funds are meant to improve the quality of life for our people and enhance service delivery at the grassroots,” said Dr. Pollen. “We expect all local authorities to move with speed and implement approved projects without delay.”

The New Dawn Government under President Hakainde Hichilema has continued to demonstrate commitment to decentralisation and community empowerment through increased funding to constituencies.

However, concerns have emerged over underutilised funds. A recent review revealed K404 million lying idle in grant accounts.

Dr. Pollen warned that failure to utilise funds effectively may attract disciplinary measures. “We want to see at least an 85% burn rate because every Kwacha must translate into real change on the ground,” he added.

The government’s proactive approach through timely disbursement of funds reflects its resolve to reduce poverty and promote inclusive development across the country.

UPND SECRETARY GENERAL HEADS TO CHINA FOR HIGH-LEVEL POLITICAL VISIT AT CPC INVITATION

PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UPND SECRETARY GENERAL HEADS TO CHINA FOR HIGH-LEVEL POLITICAL VISIT AT CPC INVITATION

Lusaka, Zambia – 2nd July, 2025

United Party for National Development (UPND), Secretary General Batuke Imenda, is leading a senior party delegation to the People’s Republic of China at the invitation of the Communist Party of China (CPC), in a visit aimed at strengthening political and developmental cooperation between the two ruling parties.

In a statement released by the UPND Secretariat, the visit builds upon the growing political rapport between the UPND and CPC.

“This visit represents a deepening of political cooperation and mutual respect between our two parties and nations,” said Mr. Imenda. “We are grateful to the CPC for their continued friendship, solidarity, and strategic support to Zambia.”

Mr Imenda says the UPND acknowledges China’s pivotal role in Zambia’s recent debt restructuring process, describing it as a critical step in restoring macroeconomic stability and fiscal space for development.

The party has also highlighted China’s expanding investments in Zambia’s mining, agriculture, and manufacturing sectors, which have grown following President Hakainde Hichilema’s diplomatic engagements with counterpart President Xi Jinping under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

The statement further expressed gratitude for China’s emergency assistance during the 2024 drought, a crisis that President Hichilema declared a national disaster. The Chinese government’s timely humanitarian and technical support played a significant role in mitigating the impact on Zambia’s agriculture and food security.

Mr. Imenda reaffirmed Zambia’s long-standing support for the One China Principle, a traditional position Zambia has held since 1964.

“Zambia holds the distinct honour of being the first country in Southern Africa to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China, shortly after our independence,” said Mr. Imenda. “This enduring friendship was built on the visionary leadership of Chairman Mao Zedong and President Kenneth Kaunda, whose legacy of solidarity and cooperation remains alive today.”

He emphasized that the visit reflects the growing importance of party-to-party diplomacy as a complement to traditional government-to-government engagement, particularly in driving socio-economic partnerships and grassroots political development.

The UPND delegation comprises key party officials and some alliance partners.

GRACE CHIVUBE PRAISES PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S LEADERSHIP AND THE ACHIEVEMENTS

July 2, 2025

LUSAKA – UPND National Trustee, Ms. Grace Chivube, has commended President Hakainde Hichilema for the progress made in the country over the past three years and ten months of his leadership.

Speaking this morning at the UPND National Secretariat, Anderson Kambela Mazoka House, Ms. Chivube thanked the President for stabilising the economy, improving the value of the Kwacha, and spearheading the construction of Southern Africa’s largest solar power plant a 100-megawatt facility  in Chisamba that marks a significant milestone in Zambia’s energy sector.

“We thank you, Mr. President, for the work you have done so far. If it were not for you, this country could have been in serious problems. The appreciation of the Kwacha means food prices must now start going down,” she said.

Ms. Chivube also appealed to shop owners across the country to adjust prices of goods downward in line with the recent reduction in fuel prices, noting that continued overpricing is unjustifiable under the current economic climate.

She urged citizens not to fall for propaganda but to focus on the tangible achievements made by the New Dawn Government under President Hichilema’s able leadership.

Drake Slams Social Media Critics With Topless Selfie

Drake has taken aim at his many social media critics in a new post on Instagram.

Alongside a topless selfie in front of his bar, the 6 God had some strong words for the haters.

Drizzy wrote: “I’m wide awake for the nights that separate the type who get to it til they get it right from the type who just …type.”

However, Drake’s post appeared to bring in more criticism with many commenters pointing out that his six pack appeared to be fake as it was much more defined than the rest of his body.

While soaking up the sun in Perth ahead of his Australian tour earlier this year, the 6 God shared a photo on his Instagram Stories of him shirtless in a swimming pool, with his toned torso on full display.

Unfortunately for Drizzy, his summer body flex backfired as the jokes about his rumored reliance on cosmetic surgery and weight loss drugs came thick and fast.

“Damn where did he get his abs from?” one user commented on Instagram, referencing a line from Kendrick Lamar‘s diss song “Euphoria.”

Another completed the lyric by writing: “V12 it’s a fast one,” nodding to the slimming machine often used before liposuction procedures.

Someone else crowned the Toronto native “the Ozempic King,” while a fourth person joked: “He could be on an episode of Botched.”

Rick Ross has also frequently taunted his former friend with accusations of going under the knife to change his appearance.

The MMG mogul even posted two side-by-side photos of Drizzy on social media last year to support his claim that the rapper had gotten a nose job.

“The bridge of your nose somehow got smaller @champagnepapi,” he wrote underneath the images, while also referring to him as “BBL Drizzy.”

Drake responded by posting a screenshot of what appeared to be a text message conversation with his mother Sandra Graham.

“Aubs – the internet is saying you got a nose job?? You looked the same to me in the kitchen today. I can’t believe you would get one without me, cuz you know I always wanted one. Don’t tell me that you got tattoos without me and now this, too?” she wrote to her son.

The “Hotline Bling” hitmaker jokingly replied: “I would have got us a 2 for 1 deal if I went ma. It’s coming from Rick Ross the guy I did songs with he’s gone loopy off the Mounjaro he hasn’t eaten in days and it’s turned him angry and racist he’s performing at proms for moneyi it’s bad we’ll handle it.”

Obama, Bush and Bono decry USAID shutdown

In a poignant and private farewell, former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush joined U2 frontman Bono in bidding a tearful goodbye to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), as the historic agency closed its doors after more than 60 years of humanitarian work.

On Monday, during a closed-press videoconference with thousands of USAID employees, the three figures delivered emotional tributes to the agency’s legacy and fierce criticism of the Trump administration’s decision to dismantle it.

President Donald Trump, with support from billionaire ally Elon Musk, ordered the dissolution of USAID, calling the agency “a criminal organization” and claiming it was filled with “radical left lunatics” and “tremendous fraud.” Staffers were abruptly locked out of systems and terminated en masse via email.

Obama, who has largely refrained from public commentary during Trump’s second term, broke his silence with a scathing rebuke of the agency’s elimination. “Gutting USAID is a travesty, and it’s a tragedy. Because it’s some of the most important work happening anywhere in the world,” he said.

Calling the move “a colossal mistake,” Obama emphasized USAID’s far-reaching impact, not just in saving lives, but in cultivating global markets and partnerships that have benefited the U.S. economy. “Your work has mattered and will matter for generations to come,” he assured the displaced staff.

Created by President John F. Kennedy as a peaceful instrument of U.S. diplomacy, USAID was long regarded as a pillar of America’s soft power. But as of Tuesday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has ordered the agency to be absorbed into the State Department, where its responsibilities will shift to a new unit branded “America First.”

“The new process will ensure there is proper oversight and that every tax dollar spent will help advance our national interests,” a State Department spokesperson said.

Former President George W. Bush used his remarks to highlight cuts to PEPFAR, the landmark HIV/AIDS relief program he launched while in office, a program credited with saving more than 25 million lives worldwide.

“You’ve showed the great strength of America through your work — and that is your good heart,” Bush told the gathering. “Is it in our national interests that 25 million people who would have died now live? I think it is, and so do you,” he said.

The event also featured appearances from global statesmen, including former Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, former Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, and former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Linda Thomas-Greenfield. Humanitarian workers added personal accounts, with one recalling the arrival of USAID food teams at a Liberian refugee camp when she was just eight years old.

A representative from the World Food Program, choked with emotion, vowed through tears that the U.S. aid mission would one day return.

Closing the gathering with a surprise appearance was Bono, longtime activist and outspoken advocate for humanitarian causes. Dressed in his signature shades and cap, the rockstar saluted the group with a mix of levity and sorrow.

He hailed them as “secret agents of international development” and recited a heartfelt poem mourning the agency’s dismantling and the global consequences of the funding cuts.

“They called you crooks. When you were the best of us,” Bono said, lamenting the millions projected to suffer due to the rollback of aid programs.

Nelly sparks anger for telling Ashanti he won’t change diapers

In a recent episode of “Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together,” it was disclosed that Nelly does not get up at night when his child cries. Nelly and Ashanti are parents to Kareem, who will be a year old on July 18.

“You know what? It’s absolutely ridiculous that you’ll still be dead asleep and he’ll be mad loud,” Ashanti says in a clip from the Peacock reality series.

Nelly responds that he just “doesn’t hear” the noise. “It’s ridiculous,” Ashanti, 44, says.

“It’s a gift, I guess,” he replies. Not too long after, he adds, “I’m blessed with that tune-out.”

Ashanti maintains that Nelly should be helping with diaper changes. “Baby, I said I’d give you the world. I just ain’t changing no diaper.”

Talking about Nelly’s “Where’s the Party At” tour, Ashanti says in the now-viral clip, “The wife and mommy side of me is a little sad. You know, Daddy’s gonna be gone for a long time […] It’s just with the baby it’s a lot.”

Nelly replies, “Well, listen. It’s all you. I ain’t gonna even lie. You know, I ain’t got nothing for him.”

The camera then cuts to a different clip, where the 50-year-old rapper is seen telling Jermaine Dupri and others that he wasn’t going to do any baby duties soon.

“Until he [Kareem] can say, ‘I’m hungry,’ until he can say, ‘I need to use the bathroom,’ it’s gonna be a lot in [Ashanti’s] lap,” Nelly states. “But as soon as he starts walking, I told her, I said ‘Enjoy.’ ‘Cause as soon as he get to walking and talking, he with the crew,” Nelly adds.

His comments did not sit well with fans online. “She waited all these years to have a baby by a teenager,” one person wrote. “This Nelly & Ashanti business is dare I say, ‘Foolish’,” another commented.

A third tweeted, “Nelly and Ashanti singlehandedly destroyed all the good spin the block PR that was happening on this here app with just that one clip and I can’t thank them enough for it. Won’t he do it?!”

Grammy Award-winning artists Ashanti and Nelly first revealed they were expecting their first child together through a playful Instagram video.

As Ashanti prepared for a performance, her mom asked how much time she needed, to which the singer replied, “I’m gonna need about nine months,” leaving her mom stunned. In an interview with Essence, Ashanti confirmed both her pregnancy and her engagement to Nelly.

“This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation,” Ashanti told the outlet. “Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.”

Nelly and Ashanti tied the knot on December 27, 2023, as confirmed by documents obtained by PEOPLE in June. TMZ first broke the news of their wedding. The couple sparked pregnancy rumors during the 11th Black and White Ball at the Four Seasons Hotel, when they shared a moment onstage together.

Ashanti rested her hands on her stomach, and Nelly followed suit, leading to shared smiles and laughter that fans saw as a hint of baby news.

Nelly is already a father to two adult children: son Cornell III, 26, and daughter Chanelle, 31. He also helped raise his niece Sydney and nephew Shawn following the death of his sister, Jackie Donahue, who passed away from leukemia at 31 in 2005.

US Embassy Issues Stern Warning To Zimbabweans On Birth Tourism

US Embassy Cracks Down On Zimbabweans Travelling To Give Birth In America
The United States Embassy in Harare has issued a blunt warning to Zimbabweans attempting to use visitor visas to travel primarily for childbirth purposes in America, a practice commonly known as “birth tourism”.

“Don’t risk your visa,” warns US Embassy
In a post shared on its official X account on 1 July 2025, the US Embassy said:

“Using a visa to travel primarily to give birth for U.S. citizenship purposes is not permitted. Consular officers will deny your visa application if they have reason to believe this is your intent.”

The statement continued with a firm caution:

“Visa misuse can lead to denial or future bans, especially if public funds are involved. Don’t risk your visa.”

This alert appears to target Zimbabweans who may be planning to enter the United States on temporary visitor visas—typically B1/B2 visas—with the primary intention of giving birth, so their children automatically acquire US citizenship by birth.

Consular officers instructed to be vigilant
The US Embassy underlined that consular officers would exercise their discretion at visa interviews.

In another stern post, the Embassy reiterated:

“We will deny your visa if we believe your primary purpose of travel is to give birth in the United States to get U.S. citizenship for your child. This is not permitted.”

The practice of birth tourism has come under scrutiny globally. In the United States, the Fourteenth Amendment provides for jus soli (right of the soil), where children born on US territory are automatically granted citizenship. This legal provision has led to some foreign nationals attempting to give birth in the US so that their children can access future benefits and entitlements.

However, the Embassy’s latest communication is a signal that authorities are actively screening for such intentions.

Zimbabweans warned to follow visa rules
There has been a noticeable rise in the number of Zimbabweans seeking alternative residency and citizenship pathways for their children in countries like the US, Canada, and the UK. Some turn to birth tourism despite the legal and financial risks involved.

According to immigration lawyers, the costs associated with birth tourism—including flights, hospital fees, and accommodation—can exceed R140,000 (US$7,500) per trip, depending on the location and healthcare facility.

While not all visa applications are denied outright, the US Embassy’s warning makes clear that those perceived to be abusing visa categories will face consequences.

“If your intent is not clearly temporary and in accordance with your visa class, you risk serious immigration consequences,” said an unnamed immigration consultant based in Harare.

Those who engage in visa fraud could also be banned from entering the United States in future.

Robert Mugabe’s Son Chatunga Granted Bail After Spending Night In Jail Following Brutal Mazowe Beatings

Chatunga Mugabe Out On Bail After Brutal Mine Beatings In Mazowe
Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, son of the late former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, has been granted bail after a dramatic arrest and night in custody linked to two violent assaults in Mazowe.

On Tuesday, the 28-year-old was released by the Concession Magistrates Court on bail of US$200 (about R3,600). His arrest followed two alleged assaults — the latest on June 30 and an earlier one on June 25 — involving school and mine personnel near his family’s property.

Brutal assaults at school and mine
Court documents reveal that the most recent altercation occurred at Annaph Secondary School near Mazowe Inn. Mugabe, along with bodyguards Tinashe Mupawo (40) and Brenan Mateko (26), allegedly attacked school groundsman Jorum Ngirazi.

According to testimony presented to the court:

“Ngirazi approached the trio looking for a Grabber truck to transport gold ore but was told not to come closer. As he turned to leave, one of the accused grabbed him by the collar. Chatunga slapped him, and the others joined in.”

Ngirazi’s Huawei Nova 8 phone was also reportedly destroyed during the incident. He later reported suffering from a persistent headache, though no visible injuries were noted at the time.

The earlier incident, on June 25 at Ultimate Mine, involved a much more serious attack on five security guards employed to protect the property adjacent to Grace Mugabe’s farm.

Victims Ntandoyokuza Nyati, Philip Chipara, Elvis Bvumbe, Collen Muchemwa, and Waddington Mutadza were allegedly assaulted with logs, iron bars, booted feet and water.

One of the guards, Nyati, was reportedly:

“struck with a log and an iron bar, then water was poured on him.”

Another, Elvis Bvumbe, was allegedly beaten with:

“a baton stick, a horse pipe, and an iron bar.”

The guards sustained multiple injuries including broken limbs, scarred backs, fractured skulls and internal trauma.

“I’m the real President’s son”
Following the mine assault, police summoned Mugabe to Mazowe Police Station. It is alleged that during questioning, he boasted:

“I’m the real President’s son. I’m untouchable.”

Despite the gravity of the accusations, the State did not oppose bail. Chatunga Mugabe, along with co-accused Mupawo and another man, Peter Fredson (32), were granted bail on identical terms. They are required to report weekly to Borrowdale Police Station, reside at their given addresses, and avoid contact with witnesses.

Legal claims and next court dates
During the bail hearing, Mugabe’s legal team complained that the accused were initially denied legal representation. Mugabe, dressed in a black hoodie, appeared subdued and attempted to avoid media cameras in the courtroom.

In an unexpected twist, Mugabe filed a counter-complaint against one of the guards, Elvis Bvumbe, alleging he was assaulted during the scuffle at the mine.

He is scheduled to return to court on July 11, 15 and 17 for three separate hearings relating to the charges.

Chamisa says he is giving Mnangagwa sleepless nights

Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has declared that President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the ruling Zanu-PF are “having sleepless nights” following his decision to re-enter active politics, months after stepping away from the scene.

Chamisa made the remarks on Monday while addressing mourners at the burial of Tichaona Mutandiri, father to South Africa-based activist Munjodzi Mutandiri, in Manyoni village 7, Mhondoro.

“I’m not shy to be labelled a politician because that’s my work, and Mnangagwa knows that. We have given him a torrid time. He is having sleepless nights because of us,” Chamisa said to applause.

“You might ask how that is possible with this small body – but it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the fight in the dog. Even an elephant can be troubled by an ant.”

Chamisa’s return comes after a turbulent year in which he lost control of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), the party he launched in January 2022 after abandoning the MDC Alliance. Self-imposed interim secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu controversially claimed control of the CCC and proceeded to recall dozens of elected legislators and councillors aligned to Chamisa.

The recalls triggered several by-elections that allowed Zanu-PF to secure a two-thirds majority in Parliament – a constitutional threshold that gives the ruling party power to amend the country’s supreme law without opposition support.

Tshabangu has been widely accused of being a Zanu-PF surrogate working to weaken Chamisa’s base, an accusation he has consistently denied.

Despite the political setback, Chamisa has signalled a renewed offensive against Mnangagwa’s administration, vowing to challenge Zanu-PF’s grip on power and revive his political movement.

During his address in Mhondoro, Chamisa also criticised government neglect in rural infrastructure, particularly the poor state of roads.

“You were saying Mhondoro is nearby, but the journey was long and difficult because of bad roads,” he said. “That alone shows we have a leadership crisis. We must pray for our country to have leaders who prioritise the welfare of the people.”

He lamented the absence of development in rural areas, saying: “We must have leaders who prioritise better roads, schools and clinics – but all of that is missing.”

The late Tichaona Mutandiri, who died at the age of 91 after suffering two strokes, passed away at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital. He is survived by his wife Chipo and eight children.

Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra suspended over leaked call with former Cambodian leader

hailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra was suspended from office Tuesday, July 1 and faces possible dismissal following an ethics probe into a leaked phone call with Cambodia’s former leader Hun Sen.

Paetongtarn, 38, has served as prime minister for just 10 months, stepping in after her predecessor was ousted. Her suspension adds fresh uncertainty to a country already grappling with years of political turmoil and leadership shake-ups.

Thailand’s Constitutional Court accepted a petition from 36 senators accusing Paetongtarn of breaching ethical standards under the constitution. In a unanimous vote, the court suspended her from prime ministerial duties pending its verdict. She will continue to serve as culture minister after a recent cabinet reshuffle.

The leaked call, confirmed authentic by both sides, sparked outrage in Thailand and fueled protests in Bangkok over the weekend. During the June 15 call, Paetongtarn was heard addressing Hun Sen as “uncle,” appearing to criticize her own military after a border clash that killed a Cambodian soldier. She also assured Hun Sen, “If you want anything, you can just tell me, and I will take care of it.”

Opponents accused her of compromising Thailand’s national interests. The scandal prompted the Bhumjaithai party, a major coalition partner, to pull out of her government, severely weakening her Pheu Thai party’s grip on power. Paetongtarn now faces plunging approval ratings and a looming no-confidence vote.

Addressing the court’s decision, Paetongtarn said her actions were intended to protect Thailand. “My intentions were more than 100% sincere — to safeguard our sovereignty, protect our soldiers’ lives, and preserve peace,” she told reporters, also apologizing to Thais who felt uneasy about the incident.

Paetongtarn later sought to downplay the call, describing it as a negotiation tactic aimed at easing tensions and insisting it was not a pledge of allegiance. “It was a private conversation that should never have been made public,” she said.

Thailand and Cambodia share a 508-mile border that has long been a source of disputes and occasional military clashes. Relations have fluctuated between cooperation and rivalry over the years.

Paetongtarn came to power last year after the Constitutional Court ruled that then-Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin had violated ethics rules, removing him from office. The same court also dissolved the popular Move Forward Party, which won the most seats in the 2023 election, and banned its leaders from politics for a decade.

2face Idibia apologises to his wife Natasha, his kids and fans for saying men are not s@xually built to be with one woman

Popular Nigerian singer, 2Face Idibia, has apologised to his wife, Natasha, his kids, and his fans for saying men are not s@xually built to be with one woman.

The singer recently sparked a debate during a podcast appearance when he claimed that men are not made to have sex with just one woman.

“A man is not built to sexu@lly be with one woman. A man can love one woman d!e, but it’s impossible for a man to sexu@lly be with one woman only. It’s the biology of man.” he said

Social media users responded to his comment in a variety of ways, with some describing it as an excuse for cheating and others supporting his position as “honest” and “biological.”

He seems to have changed his mind and has now publicly apologised for his remark. He said that his remark was “unlegendary” and ought not to have been made. He expressed regret to his fans, children, and wife Natasha for the disparaging remark.

Tupac’s friends and family smoked his ashes after rapper’s death

Fresh revelations have emerged from Suge Knight about what happened in the hours following Tupac Shakur’s death, including a strange ritual involving the rapper’s ashes.

Speaking from prison in a phone interview with People, the former Death Row Records boss shared that after Tupac’s death, the late rapper’s mother, Afeni Shakur, had him cremated almost immediately. Knight said he spent over $1 million in cash to ensure the process was done quickly, as requested by Afeni.

According to Knight, Tupac’s friends rolled his ashes into a blunt and smoked it. “A bag with his ashes was passed around. His homies rolled him up. They smoked him,” Knight said, adding that it was seen as a symbolic gesture to keep a part of him with them. “I was so happy to say I was on probation — I couldn’t smoke. I told his mother, ‘Moms, I’d love to, but if I hit that, I’ll get in trouble.’ I was probably the only one who didn’t hit him.”

Knight also gave fresh insight into the night of the shooting on September 7, 1996. He was driving the car with Tupac in the passenger seat after attending a Mike Tyson fight in Las Vegas when gunmen pulled up beside them and opened fire. Shakur was hit four times, while one of the bullets grazed Knight’s head.

Despite his injury, Knight said he managed to drive the vehicle, even with two blown-out tires, and later helped pull Tupac from the car. “I had to go over there bleeding everywhere, take the seat belt off him,” he recalled.

Tupac underwent multiple surgeries at the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada and had one of his lungs removed before he was pronounced dead six days later, on September 13, 1996, at the age of 25.

Tupac’s murder remained unsolved for decades until Las Vegas police arrested Duane ‘Keefe D’ Davis in September 2023. Davis — a former gang leader who has claimed he was present during the shooting — pleaded not guilty and is currently in custody awaiting a trial set for February 2026.

I’ll do everything Possible to stop Club World Cup — La Liga President Javier Tebas

La Liga president, Javier Tebas, has renewed his fierce opposition to the Club World Cup, vowing to do everything possible to prevent the tournament from being held again.

“I will do everything in my power to ensure that the Club World Cup is never held again,” Tebas said at a press conference on Tuesday.

This is not the first time Tebas has criticized the new format. Since FIFA announced plans for a 32-team tournament to be staged every four years, he has been among its most outspoken critics. Each participating club stands to earn at least $15 million, a major draw for top teams worldwide.

In its first edition this year, La Liga is represented by Spain’s giants Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, both of which agreed to forgo their summer break to compete.

Despite FIFA’s push and strong backing from clubs, Tebas remains determined. He plans to use legal action and institutional pressure to fight what he sees as a threat to domestic schedules and the balance of national competitions.

Whether the standoff between La Liga and FIFA will intensify or lead to a compromise remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, the ongoing Club World Cup has entered the quarter-final stage. After Borussia Dortmund edged Monterrey in the last round of 16 tie, the next fixtures are set.

Fluminense will face Al Hilal, while Saturday’s matches include Palmeiras vs Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain vs Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid vs Dortmund.

Jealousy Woman throws acid on her 21-year-old friend

A 21-year-old woman named Shraddha Das suffered severe burn injuries after being attacked with acid by her estranged friend out of jealousy, in the Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh, India.

The incident happened on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at approximately 10:30 p.m. in Awadhpuri Colony, Madhya Pradesh, which is under the Gaurighat police station’s jurisdiction.

According to the police, Ishita Sahu, 22, attacked the victim after calling her outside her home.

Following a brief exchange at the gate, Ishita allegedly threw acid at Shraddha before running away.

Shraddha was transported to a private hospital after suffering 50% burns.

According to doctors, she is now in a stable state.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicates that jealousy may have been the motivation for the attack.

It was reported that the two young women, who had once been close friends, had stopped communicating in recent months.

“Statements collected during the inquiry suggest that Ishita was envious of Shraddha’s progress and independence. The victim had reportedly blocked Ishita’s phone number two months ago and ceased all communication,” police said.

Ishita Sahu has been arrested and is currently being interrogation. Efforts are also underway to locate her parents, who are reportedly absconding.

According to the victim’s mother, the motive appears to be deep-rooted jealousy.

Shraddha’s mother claims Ishita was consumed by envy, stating, “Shraddhahad everything…comforts, stability, and ambition. Ishita had none of it. She wanted everything that Shraddha had.”

Trump threatens to arrest New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani

US President Donald Trump has dramatically escalated his attacks on New York City’s Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani, warning he would have Mamdani arrested if, as mayor, he refuses to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.

Speaking on July 1 during a visit to a migrant detention center in Florida, Trump said: “Well then, we’ll have to arrest him,” adding that he would be “watching over him very carefully on behalf of the nation.”

Trump also repeated a claim: “A lot of people are saying he’s here illegally.”

Mamdani is a naturalised U.S. citizen, born in Uganda to filmmaker Mira Nair and Columbia professor Mahmood Mamdani, who immigrated to the U.S. when Zohran was seven.

Mamdani, currently a state assembly member, secured the Democratic nomination for mayor after an upset win over former Governor Andrew Cuomo. Running on a progressive platform, he has pledged New York will not assist federal agencies like ICE in detaining undocumented immigrants—an approach consistent with longstanding “sanctuary city” policies.

“There is no federal legal obligation for state and local jurisdictions to help enforce immigration laws,” according to the Immigrant Legal Resource Center.

Mamdani responded on social media: “Trump’s statements don’t just represent an attack on our democracy but an attempt to send a message to every New Yorker who refuses to hide in the shadows: if you speak up, they will come for you. We will not accept this intimidation.”

The clash highlights a deeper national fight over immigration enforcement—and reflects the xenophobic backlash Mamdani has faced. After his victory, Rep. Andy Ogles, a Republican from Tennessee, called for Mamdani to be stripped of citizenship and deported, derisively calling him “little muhammad” in reference to his Muslim faith.

Trump has long made immigration a political cornerstone. As president, he sent the National Guard to assist ICE in Los Angeles raids. The Justice Department under his first term sued the city to halt its sanctuary policies. Those moves intensified tensions, with California officials arguing the raids triggered violent protests and property damage.

Now, Trump’s threat to arrest a sitting state lawmaker and top municipal candidate marks a striking escalation. It also comes amid broader attempts by Republicans to brand Mamdani a radical. Trump recently called him a “radical left lunatic” and wrongly labelled him a communist on Fox News. In fact, Mamdani identifies as a democratic socialist—someone who seeks to reform capitalism via democratic means, not abolish it outright.

New York Democrats quickly pushed back. Governor Kathy Hochul wrote on X, “I don’t care if you’re the President of the United States—if you threaten to unlawfully go after one of our neighbors, you’re picking a fight with 20 million New Yorkers, starting with me.”

Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine added, “This is not normal. This is not acceptable. These are the words of an unhinged would-be dictator.”

Interestingly, Trump also voiced support for Mamdani’s rival, Mayor Eric Adams, who is running for re-election as an independent after skipping the Democratic primary amid a corruption scandal. Trump said, “I helped him out a little bit. He had a problem.”

That “problem” refers to corruption charges brought by Manhattan federal prosecutors. Those charges were controversially dropped by the Trump Justice Department, with officials arguing the case interfered with Adams’ ability to execute immigration enforcement priorities. Several prosecutors resigned in protest. Adams has denied wrongdoing or making any deals with Trump’s administration.

“That was a Biden indictment,” Trump claimed without evidence. “I said, ‘Don’t feel bad, I got indicted five times.’”

Adams is now facing a crowded general election field, including Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa and a possible independent bid by Andrew Cuomo.

FAITH MUSONDA TO BE CHARGED WITH CONDUCT LIKELY TO BREACH PEACE AFTER STORMING COMMUNITY HOUSE

FAITH MUSONDA TO BE CHARGED WITH CONDUCT LIKELY TO BREACH PEACE AFTER STORMING COMMUNITY HOUSE

LUSAKA businesswoman Faith Musonda has been arrested after storming Community House, the residence of President Hakainde Hichilema in Lusaka’s New Kasama area, around 01:00 hours on Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025.

Ms. Musonda reportedly demanded to be attended to, citing various challenges she is facing.

Assistant Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi confirmed the arrest, stating that she will be charged with conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

She is currently detained at Woodlands Police Station.

In 2024, the Economic and Financial Crimes Court forfeited properties belonging to Ms. Musonda worth over K21 million to the State.

The properties were suspected to be proceeds of crime, following her failure to declare them in an agreement with the Anti-Corruption Commission under Section 80 of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.

This stemmed from a 2021 incident where Ms. Musonda was found in possession of K65 million, US$57,900, and a house in New Kasama worth over K6 million, all suspected to be proceeds of crime and later forfeited to the State.

“Why Me” Disappearance Will Haunt President Hichilema- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

By Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

“Why Me” Disappearance Will Haunt President Hichilema

In their minds, Zambia Police from the CID at Service Headquarters can capture, abduct and transport “Why Me” (Francis Kapwepwe) to Lusaka, torture him to his death at Lilayi Police Station, allow their newspapers Koswe, CIC and Kalemba report about the matter extensively and then the matter dies? with Francis Kapwepwe?

When reports emerged on 9th June 2025, that Kapwepwe had died in police detention after extensive beatings and torture, Zambia Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga issued a strange and uncharacteristic statement, denouncing reports from State House rogue media, Koswe, UPND’s CIC and reports from Kalemba distancing the Police from the case of “Why Me”.

Hamoonga claimed that “Why Me” was not in their custody and detailed reports that were running for days in their online newspapers that he was captured from Harare (or Chirundu) by officers from Service Headquarters were not true.

This case adds to the other cases of exta-judicial killings done by the police. But this case is even more serious, its a disappearance…meaning officers took a life and commutted fresh case of cover up and colluded extensively to disappear the remains of the suspect.

What I know is that every life is sacred, and whatever his crimes, “Why Me” deserved to live….it doesn’t matter how hard you collude and try to disappear a life, it’s just not possible. Someone will be held accountable.

GOING TO COURT IN ORDER TO SEEK OUT OF COURT!

First, they denied former president Edgar Lungu permission to travel abroad for medical review and consequently contributed to his death.

Then, after he died, they blocked his grieving family by dragging it to court at the eleventh hour to prevent them from burying their loved one.

Now they are pleading for an out of court settlement. How? They are the ones who took the matter to court. Are they sensing defeat and further humiliation? Or perhaps they are now scared of being exposed in open court on how cruel they treated the former president?

These are cruel and insincere people. If they can toss around or treat a grieving family this way, how about poor ordinary citizens?

PF MPs Stage Walkout Over Speaker’s Delay to Recognize Miles Sampa as Leader of Opposition

PF MPs Stage Walkout Over Speaker’s Delay to Recognize Miles Sampa as Leader of Opposition

Patriotic Front (PF) Members of Parliament on Tuesday staged a dramatic walkout from the National Assembly in protest of the Speaker’s continued delay in formally recognizing Matero MP Hon. Miles Sampa as the official Leader of the Opposition.

The MPs, visibly frustrated, exited the chamber after the Speaker of the National Assembly made remarks suggesting that the perceived disorderly behavior in the House reflected the internal disarray within the PF. The comment was made following a question from Nakonde MP Hon. Luka Simumba, who challenged the Speaker to explain why she had not yet confirmed Hon. Sampa’s leadership position, despite communication from the PF.

According to the PF MPs, the Speaker’s reluctance to make the announcement is a direct affront to parliamentary procedure and reflects bias. They argue that the Constitution and precedent mandate that Parliament only acts on communication from political parties, and not based on ongoing internal disputes or legal proceedings.

Mporokoso MP Hon. Brian Mundubile, who previously served as Leader of the Opposition, led the charge, accusing the Speaker of selectively applying parliamentary rules. “Parliament has had no Leader of Opposition for over seven months, and this is now affecting the order and progress of business on the floor. We sent communication months ago, and there has been no formal announcement. The Speaker is expected to be neutral but she’s acting otherwise,” said Mundubile.

The MPs further claimed that the Speaker’s reference to an ongoing court matter cited as justification for withholding the announcement was inconsistent. “When I was removed, the matter was also in court. That did not stop the announcement then,” added Mundubile.

The lawmakers expressed concern that the vacuum in opposition leadership was undermining legislative oversight, particularly on pressing issues such as the controversial Bill 7.

“Without a Leader of Opposition, there’s no coordination. The government is playing ping pong with issues of national importance. The Speaker is enabling this by failing to respect communication from the party. The court has already ruled that Bill 7 is unconstitutional, yet no action is being taken,” said Mundubile.

The walkout, according to PF MPs, is a warning shot. They have given the Speaker until Wednesday to announce Hon. Sampa as Leader of the Opposition or face further disruptions.

“We are not walking out for drama; we are doing this to defend parliamentary integrity and constitutional order. The Speaker is supposed to be a referee between the ruling and opposition benches not a player,” said Hon. Simumba.

The PF’s protest throws into sharp relief the ongoing internal and institutional tensions that continue to dog Zambia’s largest opposition party. With Parliament resuming on Wednesday, all eyes will be on the Speaker’s next move.

CHIEF CHAMUKA APPEALS TO EDGAR LUNGU’S  FAMILY TO BURY HIM IN ZAMBIA WITH DIGNITY

CHIEF CHAMUKA APPEALS TO ECL’s FAMILY TO BURY HIM IN ZAMBIA WITH DIGNITY

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

Chief Chamuka of the Lenje-speaking people has called on the family of late former president Edgar Lungu to reach common ground with government to ensure a dignified and culturally respectful burial within Zambia.

He underscored the importance of unity and the observance of customary rites, urging all parties to prioritize the smooth repatriation and interment of the former head of state before addressing any outstanding disputes.

The traditional leader further disclosed that traditional leaders across the country stand united in advocating for an amicable resolution to the current impasse surrounding the funeral and burial arrangements.

He emphasized that, as custodians of culture, traditional leaders have a vital role to play in preserving national dignity during such solemn moments.

Meanwhile, Chief Chamuka applauded President Hakainde Hichilema and his administration for the decision to defer Constitution Amendment Bill No. 7.

He described the move as a commendable demonstration of government’s willingness to listen to public sentiment and engage in meaningful dialogue.

Missed opportunities by PF on ECL’s funeral

Missed opportunities by PF on  Lungu’s funeral

By Munyori Munyori

Passed days in Zambia regarding the death of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu alias ECL have been hectic, and no doubt, have caused tension in the country ahead of the 2026 general elections.

However, I just here sharing my thoughts over this matter which has even attracted the attention of the international community.

With the happenings of the past few days, I feel the former ruling party the Patriotic Front (PF)) has lost an opportunity to capitalize on the mourning period to gain sympathy from the public ahead of next year’s elections.

The general feeling from most independent minds is that their resistance to following laid down procedure is a taste of the lawlessness that is ahead of us.

Their blunt disrespect to the military on the security of the late President’s body is very disturbing because of the following reasons, or rather questions;

1. Is PF and Tonse disregarding the military?
2. Are they saying the military had a role to play in the death of the former president
The biggest of all questions is when will all this end?

1. The hate…Lungu declared 18 October as day of prayer and reconciliation.
– How will they uphold his legacy?
– The division being exhibited is a clear diversion from the humble and loving president Zambia had.
2. Tribal divisions. We have the motto “one Zambia one Nation”
– the PF and Tonse seem to be segregative on tribal lines.

https://youtu.be/ejs0jAksMBg?si=J5I8ElAGr5xtYKW_

Here is the current situation analysis from my perspective as a Zambian citizen over this matter.

President Hakainde Hichilema will have to make a televised speech which should contain the following;

1. Respecting the wish of the family
2. Acknowledging the unfriendly relationship shared with the late President ECL.

3. Accord the late president a memorial mausoleum at embassy park and probably  declaring his day of burial as a holiday to give people room to commit to national unity.

4. A call for unity to all zambians
5. Acknowledging the fact that from the 2 million voters that voted for UPND, a majority are neutral and “we are zambians first before we belong to political parties”
6. Acknowledging the fact that despite their differences ECL was the republican president

Fellow citizens, it must be noted that Zambia was honoured to receive a courtesy call from Mr. Ronald Ozzy Lamola, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa.

Minister Lamola conveyed heartfelt condolences from His Excellency President Cyril Ramaphosa and the people of South Africa on the passing of our 6th Republican President, Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

We held a meaningful and respectful discussion regarding the burial of the late President, during which Zambia reaffirmed its firm position that His Excellency Mr. Lungu should be laid to rest in his homeland, the Republic of Zambia.

We extended our sincere gratitude to the President of South Africa through President Hichilema for the care extended to our late President during his period of illness. We also expressed our apologies to the South African National Defence Force for the unexpected challenges surrounding the  repatriation of the late President’s remains on Wednesday, 18th June 2025.

We seriously need to reflect as a country over this issue and put the interests of Zambians above our personal interests so that ECL can be given a dignified send-off befitting his status.

May God bless us all.

But it appears there is a serious joke going on at Zambia Statistics Agency such as;

1. According to ZamStats,  In 2024 Zambia’s economy grew by 6% in the midst of the worst drought in a century, the worst load-shedding or power cuts in 60 years that bankrupted SMEs, significantly affected production in manufacturing and industries, and disrupted or cut production.

2. While experiencing the worst cost-of-living crisis  apparently Zambia was galloping into historical economic growth of 6% and above!

3. All key economic indicators are furiously being revised positively, upwards and better.

4. We have one of the highest numbers of people living with HIV/AIDS in sub-sahara, persons with TB, persons dying from malaria and one of the worst infant mortality rate, but apparently our lifespan has jumped from 51-67years and the population has become one of the healthiest in the region.

5. Apparently the copper production will race to one (1) million tonnes by end of year!

6. I guess next will be employment, poverty and size of GDP.

This joke would be a mere joke if Bloomberg, a reputable commodities and business reporter, wasn’t fervently quoting the manufactured statistics as gospel truth.

Below is yet another package of revised statistics.

Life Expectancy in Zambia has increased from 51 to 67 years. Life expectancy for females is 69-years while for males is at  64.

Life expectancy in Zambia has risen from 51 to 67 years.

According to the 2022 Census of Population and Housing National Analytical Report, life expectancy for females stands higher at 69 years, compared to 64 years for males.

The report also reveals that, of the over 10.5 million people of working age, 39.1 percent were active in the labour force, with a slightly higher concentration in urban areas at 44.5 percent.

Finance and National Planning Minister SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE disclosed this during the launch of the 2022 Census of Population and Housing National Analytical Report in Lusaka.

Dr. MUSOKOTWANE stated that the findings are vital for monitoring progress on national priorities such as the 8th National Development Plan, Vision 2030, and the Sustainable Development Goals -SDGs.

He noted that the data will inform evidence-based policy-making and long-term planning.

His remarks were delivered on his behalf by Ministry of Finance Acting Permanent Secretary for Planning, PAMELA KAUSENI.

Meanwhile, Zambia Statistics Agency Board Chairperson OLIVER CHINGANYA said the launch of the report reflects the country’s strong commitment to data-driven governance and the modernisation of its statistical systems.

PF MPS GIVE PARLIAMENT ULTIMATUM TO ANNOUNCE MILES SAMPA AS LEADER OF OPPOSITION BY TODAY

PF MPS GIVE PARLIAMENT ULTIMATUM TO ANNOUNCE MILES SAMPA AS LEADER OF OPPOSITION BY TODAY

Patriotic Front (PF) Members of Parliament have given the National Assembly until tomorrow to announce Matero Member of Parliament Miles Sampa as the new Leader of Opposition.

Speaking on behalf of other MPs, Mporokoso Member of Parliament Brian Mundubile has warned that there will be no order in the House as long as Mr Sampa does not take his seat as Leader of Opposition starting tomorrow.

He says for parliamentary business to be properly ordered, there must be a Leader of Opposition who is going to coordinate the activities of the opposition MPs.

Speaking shortly after leading other PF MPs in walking out of the chamber in protest, Mr Mundubile said there has been confusion on the floor of the house for the past seven months.

He says communication was sent to parliament some months back regarding the new Leader of Opposition but the Speaker of the National Assembly has not effected the changes to date.

Mr Mundubile says Parliament only receive communication from the party and their role is to announce the leader of opposition per the Constitutional Court ruling.

Mr Mundubile, a former Leader of Opposition himself, has also urged the speaker to avoid the temptation of taking a partisan stance commenting on internal party issues.

BUS FARE REDUCTION ONLY FOR PETROL VEHICLES –  Bus and Taxi Owners Association

BUS FARE REDUCTION ONLY FOR PETROL VEHICLES – BTOAZ

Bus and Taxi Owners Association of Zambia (BTOAZ) Chairman Sydney Chewe says bus fare reductions will only apply to petrol-powered vehicles, following the recent drop in fuel prices.

According to the association, the reduction in petrol prices has surpassed the agreed threshold of K2 required to trigger a fare adjustment, while diesel prices have not met that mark.

As a result, fares for diesel-powered vehicles will remain unchanged.

CHISAMBA SOLAR PLANT SCANDAL: UPND Government to use Chisamba Solar Plant in a Calculated Move to Benefit few elites using Money From ZESCO While Zambians Suffer in Darkness – Kasonde Mwenda C EFF President

Urgent PRESS STATEMENT

1st July 2025

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Zambia is deeply disturbed by the blatant betrayal of the Zambian people by the UPND government through the deliberate and calculated misuse of the Chisamba Solar Power Plant project. What should have been a beacon of hope for energy sustainability and economic inclusion has been turned into a money-laundering conduit for the benefit of a privileged few.

At the heart of this scandal lies a shocking and illogical contract arrangement: ZESCO, our national power utility, funded the $71.5 million Chisamba Solar Plant through debt financing from Stanbic Bank Zambia, only to be pushed aside in favour of GreenCo Power Services, a private energy trader. This company – whose links to the UPND elite are no secret – was granted a 13-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to exclusively sell electricity to First Quantum Minerals (FQM).

Let us be clear: this is public infrastructure, funded through public debt, built on Zambian soil – and yet, Zambians are deliberately locked out of the benefits. While ZESCO remains shackled to the financial obligations and future costs of maintaining this plant, including the burden of obsolete infrastructure after the contract period, GreenCo and their political sponsors will walk away with millions of dollars in profits.

President Hakainde Hichilema has once again misinformed the people. When he stood before the residents of Chisamba and promised them electricity from this plant, he knew full well that a deal had already been signed to divert every megawatt of power to the mines – not to households, not to farmers, not to clinics, not to schools.

Meanwhile, Zambians continue to suffer under 14 hours of daily load shedding. Rural communities like Chisamba – the very land where the plant stands – remain in the dark, while the UPND government pretends to be solving the energy crisis.

EFF Zambia Demands:
Immediate cancellation or renegotiation of the GreenCo PPA to ensure that electricity generated from Chisamba Solar serves Zambian households and critical infrastructure first.

Full public disclosure of all contracts, financial arrangements, and shareholder interests in GreenCo Power Services and the Chisamba project.

A parliamentary inquiry into the role of ZESCO, the Ministry of Energy, and the Office of the President in this scandal.

A halt to all future privatization of energy assets until a national energy benefits framework is enacted to prioritize Zambian citizens.

This is not just mismanagement – it is state capture through energy infrastructure. The UPND government has weaponized our public institutions for private gain, and Zambians are paying the price with darkness, job losses, and skyrocketing costs of living.

The EFF will not stand by and watch as our people are robbed of their national wealth. We call on every citizen, civil society organization, and the media to expose this injustice and demand accountability.

This is more than a solar plant – it is a symbol of UPND’s betrayal.

Wherever we want to go our feet will take us there.
