Mfuwe MP Maureen Mabonga has been sentenced to 8 months  in prison

Mfuwe Member of Parliament Maureen Mabonga (in black) heading to a prison truck famously known as Kasalanga, to begin her eight months sentence for seditious practices.

She has also been fined 4000 penalty units on top of the jail term.

If she fails to pay the fine today, which is about K1,600, she will serve an additional three months jail term.

The magistrate, however, acquitted the lawmaker in the second charges of seditious practices.

Lusaka magistrate Trevor Kasanda jailed the lawmaker this morning after finding her guilty in one count of uttering words with potential to incite disaffection among Zambians.

The court found her guilty of seditious practices after it was established that her utterances which were made during the disappearance of ex-Petauke MP Emmanuel Banda, had potential to incite tribes to raise against each other.

Before jailing the convict, magistrate Kasanda echoed the need for Members of Parliament not to utter words with potential to divide the country’s over 70 tribes.

The magistrate, who made reference to the infamous Rwanda genocide which cost many lives, said MPs should avoid uttering words that have potential to incite disaffection and threaten the country’s peace.

He noted that words spoken by elected officials carry immense weight and therefore, should be devoid of inciting violence or pitying one tribe against the others.

WE ARE BEING GOVERNED BY THIEVES — DR. MUSUMALI

WE ARE BEING GOVERNED BY THIEVES — DR. MUSUMALI

…says there is no Government Ministry today that is free from corruption

Lusaka… Thursday May 15, 2025 — Socialist Party (SP) General Secretary Dr. Cosmas Musumali says the revelations by American Embassy that there is systematic stealing of medicine shows that the country is being led by thieves.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka this morning, Dr. Musumali said the UPND has deliberately switched off all institutions that are supposed to safeguard Zambians.

He said the UPND Government is surviving on the basis of stealing public resources.

Dr. Musumali adds that there is no government ministry or grant aided institution today that is free from corruption.

“We are being led by thieves. We have a Government surviving on the basis of stealing public resources. There is no Government Ministry today that is free from corruption. The American tax payer is saying no to this and it’s time the Zambian taxpayers said no to this stealing. They are busy boasting that the country is doing well, that is arrogance of the highest order,” Dr. Musumali said.

“Corruption has been weaponized targeting political opponents. Procurement has been mismanaged. Institutions that are supposed to safeguard Zambians have been switched off. This has created a vacuum were stealing becomes part of functions and systems. Systematic theft is possible when all institutions and functions have been switched off and this is by design. The UPND Government has failed this country and stealing is at a grand scale,” he said.

And Dr. Musumali said Zambia has a parasitic pharmaceutical system that is taking medicines meant for the public and selling them.

“We have a parasitic pharmaceutical system where every second, pharmaceutical outlets are parasitic on public resources. There is systematic stealing the, the entire health system has been invaded by thieves. It’s not a diplomatic language but the U.S Ambassador used that and the question that we should ask ourselves is, how does a diplomat come to that conclusion, that there was systematic theft of the U.S funded medicines,” Dr. Musumali said.

“Again, they conducted their own investigations for two years. From 2021 to 2023, they were conducting those investigations. They visited 2,000 pharmacy outlets and with those pharmacy outlets they came to a certain conclusion that actually, half the outlets were stealing. The report was given to the UPND Government who tried to shelve it, hence them coming to the public.”

ZAMBIA IS DROWNING IN DEBT – AND THE UPND IS HOLDING THE HOSE

“2026 Must Be About Development – Not Deception.”

Let us face facts: the UPND government has become a danger to Zambia’s economic future. While they continue to throw parties over so-called “debt restructuring success,” the truth is this — they have borrowed far more than the debt they rescheduled, and the country has nothing to show for it.

The Numbers Don’t Lie — But Neither Do Empty Roads

Since the UPND took power: External debt has jumped from $13.04 billion to $14.7 billion. Domestic debt has soared from K194 billion to K225 billion. Zambia’s total public debt now stands at over $25.5 billion. But where is the infrastructure? Where are the jobs? Where is the progress?

They Blame the Past to Hide the Present

Yes — let’s be honest — under President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, Zambia borrowed. Maybe even over-borrowed. But there is a key difference: The roads were built. The hospitals went up. The airports were modernized. Energy projects were launched. Flyover bridges in Lusaka appeared. Schools were expanded. The infrastructure is there — and it’s visible. You may debate the debt levels, but you cannot debate the results.

Compare that to the UPND government: Billions borrowed, Billions spent, CDF increased to over 30 million kwacha And yet, no legacy to show.

Borrowing to Consume Is Not Leadership — It’s Failure. What has the UPND done with the borrowed money? Salaries. Foreign allowances. Luxury vehicles. Conferences and political comfort.

This is borrowing to survive — not to build. It is economic suicide disguised as fiscal policy.

Their “Projects” Are Either Private, Stalled or Political Showpieces The Lusaka–Ndola dual carriageway? Not funded by the state — it’s a PPP. The Itimpi Solar Plant? Private investment. The “Constituency projects” paraded at rallies? Nothing but tokenism. The big picture is clear: no bold national investment plan, no national transformation agenda, just politics and patchwork.

Zambia’s Future Is Being Sacrificed. This is not about fixing past problems. This is creating new ones, even bigger. Every child born today is already shackled to a debt they didn’t ask for and won’t benefit from. That is not governance — it’s betrayal.

2026 is a year of redemption. Let’s Vote for Development. This is our call to action: Zambians, in 2026, we must reject storytelling. Reject recycled excuses. Reject governments that only know how to talk and borrow. Let us not vote for debt without development. Let us not vote for leaders who hide behind old slogans while they mortgage our future.

Let’s vote for vision. Let’s vote for results. Let’s vote for development.

We Offer More Than Criticism
We Offer a Plan. The Opposition is not here to complain — we are here to lead. We have a clear plan to rebuild the economy, Strategies to create real jobs and industrial growth, A commitment to transparency and investment discipline, And a promise: every dollar borrowed under our leadership will build something lasting.
Zambia deserves more. Zambia deserves better.

Let 2026 be the turning point — not just of government, but of vision.

Let’s rise together. Let’s rebuild together. Let’s vote for development.

five years later,Honey Bee drug case is back in court

ABOUT five years later, the famous Honey Bee drug case is back in court.

Director of Public Prosecutions(DPP) Gilbert Phiri has filed court documents seeking to appeal against the acquittal of eight people, among them former Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya, linked to the case.

In 2021, a magistrate acquitted Dr Chilufya and seven others who were facing six allegations linked to the drug scandal.

Among those acquitted include ex-
Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Kakulubelwa Mulalelo, Honey Bee Pharmacy Limited, Wilson Lungu, a Ministry of Health former procurement officer and ex-Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority director procurement Bonaventure Chilinde;

The rest are Zakir Hussain-Motala, Chomba Kaoma,Imran Lunat and Abdurrahim Motala.

Allegations were that Mr Chilufya, Ms Mulalelo and Mr Lungu allegedly wilfully failed to comply with the law and applicable procedures or guidelines.

It was also alleged that the trio unlawfully omitted acts which caused harm to numerous persons.

Further accusations in count three were that Mr Chilinde, Mr Hussein-Motala, Mr Kaoma, Mr Lunat and Mr Motala fraudulently obtained a pharmaceutical licence without complying with lawful requirements.

In count four, allegations are that the eight, imported, stored, sold, distributed and dealt with substandard, adulterated and misbranded medicines contrary to the law.

It is alleged in count five that Mr Chilinde, Mr Hussain-Motala, Mr Kaoma, Mr Lunat, Mr Motala and Honey Bee Pharmacy Limited forged some documents.

In the last count, the six allegedly uttered some false documents to authorities.

However, on January 26, 2021, a magistrate in Lusaka acquitted all the eight.

But the DPP has wants to challenge this acquittal in the Economic and Financial Crimes Court.

“I desire to appeal to the High Court against the acquittal on the grounds set over leaf,” Mr Phiri says in the documents.

His grounds of appeal are that the magistrate erred in law when it acquitted the eight before taking plea in all the six counts, notwithstanding that the charge was not signed by the complainant, public prosecutor or legal practitioner.

Mr Phiri also contends that the court also erred in law when it acquitted them in the absence of sufficient grounds permitting the complainant in that matter to withdraw the complaint.

He adds that the acquittal was also an err because it was done in the absence of the DPP’s consent to prosecute it.

Since he has taken long to appeal against the case, Mr Phiri has filed an application to appeal out of time.

He has explained why he has filed the notice of appeal outside the legally stipulated timeframe.

“The delay to file the notice of appeal by the DPP was not deliberate but was occasioned by Wilson Lungu and Zakir Hussain Motala,Imran Lunat, and Abdurrahim Motala’s filing of multiple actions in the High court and the Court of Appeal which took long to be heard”.

VIDEO: “We followed diplomatic channels and held 33 meetings in 13 months” – US Ambassador responds

SOME UNREGISTERED PHARMACIES SOLD STOLEN US DRUGS – US AMBASSADOR

By Darius Choonya

US Ambassador to Zambia, Michael Gonzales, has revealed that investigations into the theft of US-donated drugs found that many of the pharmacies selling the stolen medications were not registered.

He stated that in April, the US Embassy provided a list of these pharmacies to the Zambian government.

Speaking during a meeting with the Ministers of Health, Acting Home Affairs, and Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Gonzales urged the Zambian government to disclose what actions were taken regarding the list shared.

His appeal follows the authorities’ confirmation that they are now in possession of a forensic audit report on the drug theft, conducted by PwC.

Last week, Ambassador Gonzales held a press conference to announce that the US was cutting $50 million in health aid to Zambia due to the theft of life-saving medications donated by the US , a decision that has sparked mixed reactions.

The Ambassador further revealed that over 2,000 pharmacies visited across the country sold stolen drugs donated by the American government.

Tonse Alliance Defends Lungu, Labels Current Leadership a “Failed Statesman”

Tonse Alliance Defends Lungu, Labels Current Leadership a “Failed Statesman”

The Tonse Alliance has come out strongly in defense of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu following remarks made by Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Chipoka Mulenga, who referred to Lungu as a “failed statesman.”

Speaking on behalf of the Alliance, Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) President and Tonse Alliance Spokesperson Sean E. Tembo dismissed the accusations against Lungu, instead turning the criticism on the current government leadership.

“We are surprised because this country only has one failed statesman, and that person is not Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu,” Tembo said in a statement issued Thursday.

Tembo outlined what he termed as failures by the current administration, stating that the leadership had not lived up to its campaign promises.

“A failed statesman is a person who promised to reduce the price of mealie meal to K50 once he ascended to office, but has failed to do so, as the price of mealie meal is now more than K350,” he said. “And yet, this failed statesman has failed to render an apology to the Zambian people.”

Tembo further criticized the administration’s handling of freedom of expression, alleging that the enactment of new cyber laws has stifled citizens’ rights.

He also accused the government of failing to manage the health sector, particularly in the distribution of donated medicines, and claimed the leadership had mismanaged international relations and weaponized the judiciary to target political opponents.

“Failing to prevent theft of donated medicines is a perfect definition of a failed statesman,” Tembo charged.

He went on to condemn the export of electricity amid persistent load shedding in Zambia, calling it a betrayal of public interest.

“If Hon. Chipoka Mulenga is looking for a failed statesman, he should not look far because he sits with the failed statesman in Cabinet,” Tembo declared.

The Tonse Alliance, which is fielding Edgar Lungu as its 2026 presidential candidate, concluded by saying that Zambians are eagerly awaiting the next election.

“We intend to retire the failed statesman, in the national interest, come 13th August 2026,” Tembo said.

MSCZ COMMENDS GOVERNMENT FOR ITS FULL REGISTRATION AND RECOGNITION

MSCZ COMMENDS GOVERNMENT FOR ITS FULL REGISTRATION AND RECOGNITION

Lusaka, May 16 – The Media Self Regulation Council of Zambia (MSCZ) wishes to commend the Government of the Republic of Zambia for standing by its commitment to fully register and recognise the media body to promote ethical journalism through an industry-led peer accountability mechanism.

On 14th May, 2025, the Registrar of Societies under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security, granted authority for MSCZ to become fully operational by issuing the organisation with a certificate of registration.

This official recognition of MSCZ is consistent with the current government’s policy to support professional and ethical journalism through media self-regulation.

On April 21, 2025, Republican President, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to safeguarding press freedom, media self-regulation and the right to free expression.

In a statement issued by State House Chief Communication Specialist, Clayson Hamasaka, the President categorically stated that his Administration had no plans to regulate the media through statutory means or otherwise.

“We believe self regulation is the correct approach now and moving forward,” the statement read in part.

In light of this major milestone, MSCZ wishes to inform members of the general public and various stakeholders that plans have advanced to officially open offices in Lusaka’s Rhodes Park next month, where Government is expected to officiate the event.

Members of the public are encouraged to report unprofessional conduct by journalists to the Secretariat, currently based at MISA Zambia, and soon to be located in Rhodes Park.

Media Self Regulation is a globally recognised initiative adopted by journalists to regulate themselves by promoting ethical and professional journalism. In Zambia, journalists are being supported by several media advocacy groups including the MISA Zambia, Free Press Initiative, Catholic Media Services, Panos Institute of Southern Africa, Media Owners Association and the BBC Media Action.

Zambia Police Cannot Cherry-Pick Justice: Chabinga Must Be Investigated- Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

EDITOR’S CHOICE: Zambia Police Cannot Cherry-Pick Justice: Chabinga Must Be Investigated

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

The Zambia Police Service’s refusal to act on a hate speech complaint filed by Kabwe resident Teddy Nkunka against expelled Patriotic Front (PF) Mafinga MP Robert Chabinga is not only deeply troubling; it is a stark indictment of the erosion of law enforcement integrity in Zambia. The rationale provided by the police, that only the affected diplomats or their families can lodge a valid complaint, is legally baseless, morally indefensible, and politically suspect.

1. Hate Speech Is a Crime Against Society, Not Just the Victim

Hate speech is not a private grievance. It is an assault on the very fabric of our multi-ethnic, democratic society. When public figures make inflammatory statements that incite hostility or discrimination, they endanger public peace and national unity. The law does not require that only those directly targeted must complain for action to be taken. Any citizen has the right and responsibility to report such conduct.

The Zambia Police Service has a constitutional and statutory duty to investigate hate speech wherever credible evidence exists, regardless of the complainant’s identity. Failure to do so is not just negligence; it is complicity.

2. Zambia’s Laws Demand Action, Not Excuses

Zambia’s Penal Code and Constitution contain clear, unambiguous provisions criminalizing conduct that promotes tribalism, racial hatred, or discrimination. These laws were crafted to protect the public and preserve peace, not to shield political actors from accountability.

Nowhere in our legal framework is it stated that police action depends on the social or diplomatic status of the complainant. The police’s job is to investigate crimes, not to determine who has the right to demand justice. To suggest otherwise is to dangerously misrepresent the law and undermine its equal application.

3. Misuse of Diplomatic Immunity Arguments

The invocation of diplomatic protection in this case is a red herring. While diplomats enjoy certain immunities under international law, such as the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, those laws do not and cannot be used to block domestic investigations into hate speech that affects national peace and security.

If anything, inflammatory remarks targeting foreign nationals demand even more urgent attention due to the potential for diplomatic fallout and public unrest. The police’s failure to act not only undermines domestic law but also risks damaging Zambia’s international reputation.

4. A Dangerous Precedent That Encourages Lawlessness

What message does it send when hate speech goes unchallenged simply because the complainant is not the immediate victim? It signals to politicians and their surrogates that they are above the law and that inciting division is politically acceptable if one enjoys protection from those in power.

This is a gateway to lawlessness. Selective enforcement of the law corrodes public trust, encourages impunity, and weakens democracy. The police must not become a tool for protecting the politically connected while turning a blind eye to offenses that threaten national cohesion.

5. The Police Are Fast Losing Public Confidence

The behavior of the Zambia Police Service in this matter has only confirmed what many Zambians already fear: that the police no longer serve the public interest, but rather act as enforcers of the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) agenda.

Their refusal to act against Robert Chabinga, a known UPND surrogate accused of destabilizing the PF from within, cannot be seen in isolation. It fits into a broader pattern where critics of the government face swift arrest while allies are shielded, no matter the offense. This blatant double standard is intolerable in a democratic society.

When law enforcement becomes partisan, it ceases to be a protector of peace and becomes a threat to it. The continued politicization of the Zambia Police is not only a betrayal of their oath but a direct threat to Zambia’s democracy.

Conclusion: The Law Must Apply Equally or It Means Nothing

The Zambia Police Service has an inescapable duty to uphold the law without fear, favor, or political interference. Their refusal to act on the complaint against Robert Chabinga is a dereliction of that duty and a grave disservice to the people of Zambia.

If the police continue down this path, protecting political operatives while ignoring legitimate complaints, they will not only lose the trust of the public but risk plunging the country into greater division and unrest. Hate speech cannot be tolerated, no matter who utters it. Justice must never be conditional.

Zambians deserve a police service that enforces the law impartially and defends the rights and dignity of every citizen. Anything less is an insult to the rule of law and a danger to the Republic.

ZAMBIA AIR FORCE
PRESS STATEMENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

14 MAY 2025

ZAF COMMAND STATEMENT ON GREAT EAST ROAD TRAFFIC INCIDENT

1. The Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Command has noted with concern a video that has been circulated on social media, where a ZAF vehicle with personnel on board, was seen passing an accident scene without rendering assistance. This occurrence relates to an incident that occurred on 13 May 2025 along Great East Road near Arcades Shopping Mall, in which an unidentified man was tragically involved in a hit-and-run road traffic accident.

2. We wish to acknowledge this incident and state that the behaviour exhibited does not reflect the values of the Zambia Air Force and the Nation at large. What transpired is deeply regrettable and inconsistent with the values of humanity, and our motto – defend and support. The Zambia Air Force stands for duty, compassion and service to the nation. As military men, we have sworn an oath to protect and serve, not just in times of war but in all circumstances where human life is at stake. The behaviour exhibited in the video not only betrays that solemn duty, but tarnishes the image and reputation of ZAF.

3. We are treating this matter with the seriousness it deserves and have since launched an internal inquiry to fully understand the prevailing circumstances and take appropriate action on the personnel seen driving past the incident without stopping to render assistance. This unfortunate occurrence must never happen again.

4. The ZAF Commander sends heartfelt sympathies to the victim and his family during this difficult time. No human life should ever be treated with disregard. The dignity and sanctity of life must remain paramount at all times. To the Zambian people, we hear your concerns and understand your dismay. FROM SOVEREIGNTY CRY TO GOVERNANCE HELP CRY – the highest form of unawareness.

LUNTE MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT HON. MUTOTWE KAFWAYA WRITES::

FROM SOVEREIGNTY CRY TO GOVERNANCE HELP CRY – the highest form of unawareness.

The cry is from the highest of leaders for our country. Respect our sovereignty, conduct your business through diplomatic channels.

Vienna  convention ……

This cry was not made through diplomatic channels. It was at presser conducted by three UPND ministers.

This cry was not made a long time ago, but it was three day ago.

No response was heard from any diplomat.

And today as we were considering what options to recommend to the UPND on how they’d go round plugging the gap created by the US withdrawal of part of their aid to the health sector of our country resulting from that reported theft of donations, boom! Another set of three ministers meeting diplomats.

This time calling on diplomats to render help to the UPND in finding lasting solutions to the problem of theft of donations.

This to me is like asking for help to govern. It’s like saying (we have failed to find  solutions by ourselves, kindly diplomats step in and help us).

If this is true, then I wonder what sovereignty that cry was about!

Listen! Those people already donated, they brought the drugs to the country and the drugs were stolen in your possession not theirs. Why should you invite them to help you in finding lasting solutions?

Why should you invite them to govern the country with you? What amount of failure is this?

In that meeting today;

When I saw diplomats, I thought to myself that the presence of the minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation was necessary. I also thought the same for the health minister after perceiving that drug theft was a subject of consideration too.

But, what was the relevance of the minister for soldiers their? This too shocked me.

The issue was about internal theft of drugs donated by a foreign government and sovereignty talks anchored on the Vienna convention. What was there for ministry of defense? What was the psychology around the inclusion of defense in that convocation?

We keep on looking!

Restoring EVERYTHING PATRIOTIC.

CHIVUBE URGES WOMEN TO TAKE THE LEAD AHEAD OF 2026 GENERAL ELECTIONS

CHIVUBE URGES WOMEN TO TAKE THE LEAD AHEAD OF 2026 GENERAL ELECTIONS

May 15, 2025

LUSAKA – UPND Trustee Grace Chivube has urged both women and men to roll up their sleeves and take the lead in mobilizing support for the party ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Speaking to UPND members from various wards in Matero Constituency this afternoon, Ms. Chivube encouraged women to play a more active role in political mobilization and to ensure that ward chairpersons remain motivated and engaged.

She commended President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership and called on party members to consistently highlight the government’s achievements, including the increase in the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) from K1.6 million to K36.1 million, the restoration of meal allowances, decentralization of services, payment of retirees, and the successful restructuring of national debt.

“We must continue to speak about what our party and President have accomplished,” Ms. Chivube emphasized.

She also urged leaders to add value to their positions by staying connected with communities and maintaining a visible presence.

“When you are seen, you should be speaking out and actively working on the ground,” she added.

At the same event, Christabel Ignutu Sidele, a UPND Secretary from the Women’s Wing at the national level, stressed the need for urgency and unity in mobilization efforts.

“We are the campaign managers for the President,” she said. “Let’s work hard, invite those willing to work with us, and hit the ground running. Time is not on our side.”

UPND HIGHLIGHTS MAJOR ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE MILESTONES ON THE COPPERBELT

UPND HIGHLIGHTS MAJOR ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE MILESTONES ON THE COPPERBELT

Lusaka — May 14, 2025

President Hakainde Hichilema has prioritized the Copperbelt’s development due to its significant economic value and centrality to the nation’s prosperity.

Speaking at a press briefing today at the Anderson Kambela Mazoka party secretariat, United Party for National Development (UPND) Media Director Mark Simuuwe says President Hichilema has rolled out a bold and expansive infrastructure agenda centered on the Copperbelt Province.

“The Copperbelt is the only urban province in the country and in terms of infrastructure development that this government has deliberately prioritized it — because of the economic benefits it carries not just for Zambia, but for the entire SADC region,” Mr. Simuuwe said.

Reflecting on a previous press briefing that focused on water and sanitation, Mr. Simuuwe emphasized that the current briefing turned the spotlight onto the region’s road network — a sector he described as “critical for sustainable economic development.”

Among the flagship projects, Mr. Simuuwe highlighted the Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway, which he described as a strategic lifeline.

“President Hakainde Hichilema, even in opposition, championed this road. He said it was overpriced at $2.1 billion, and now we are seeing it being done for less than half that amount,” Mr. Simuuwe noted.

“What’s more impressive is that this project is being financed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), not borrowed money. Under this model, the developer will maintain the road for 22 years — at no cost to government. That’s methodical and intelligent leadership,” he stated

Mr. Simuuwe further disclosed that the Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriage project had already reached about 25 per cent completion, according to the Road Development Agency (RDA), and had created over 3,000 jobs.
Beyond the Lusaka-Ndola route, Mr. Simuuwe detailed a number of completed and ongoing projects and these include

• Masangano-Fisenge-Luanshya Road, once riddled with potholes and ditches, has been completed — reducing travel time from over an hour to just seven minutes.
• 36 km of township and central roads in Luanshya have been paved, with some areas receiving free Wi-Fi services.
• Similar urban upgrades are underway in Ndola, Kitwe, Chingola, and Chililabombwe.

• Chingola-Chililabombwe-Kasumbalesa Road has been completed, with a modern shopping mall earmarked at the Kasumbalesa border post.
• Ndola-Sakanya-Mufulira Road, last worked on under UNIP, has seen about 14 km rehabilitated — starting from Hilcrest in Ndola.

• Chibuluma Road in Kalulushi, now a 7 km concrete stretch, is the first of its kind since independence.
• Kandabwe Road, a hotspot for copper theft and attacks, is currently under rehabilitation.

Mr. Simuuwe also announced that each of the Copperbelt’s 22 districts has been allocated K3.1 million for township roads under the Constituency Development Funds (CDF) and local authorities have been directed to prioritize road grading and construction before the next rainy season.

“Councils that haven’t procured graders have been instructed to do so without delay,” he said.

Other roads under construction include the Mpongwe–Machiya Road, Machiya Bridge, and the Kalengwa Road in Lufwanyama, all through PPP arrangements. He also commended Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) for contributing 16 km of roadwork.

On accountability, Mr. Simuuwe called out previous administrations for being fraudulent, “the PF government got K300,000 for the Ndola-Mufulira route, but not even a single kilometer was done. We urge law enforcement agencies to recover that money.”

He further called for transparency across the board, singling out Lusaka District which is lagging in publishing CDF project details to which the UPND Media Team has requested the deputy mayor to come forward and share what has been done.

The press briefing underscored UPND’s narrative of prudent fiscal management, results-based governance, and strategic infrastructure development — with the Copperbelt standing tall as a symbol of its economic vision.

HAIM TAIB, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ANGOLA SOVEREIGN FUND, LAUNCHES $1 BILLION DEVELOPMENT PLATFORM TO TRANSFORM AFRICA’S LOBITO CORRIDOR

HAIM TAIB, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ANGOLA SOVEREIGN FUND, LAUNCHES $1 BILLION DEVELOPMENT PLATFORM TO TRANSFORM AFRICA’S LOBITO CORRIDOR

Committed First $100 Million to Catalyze Inclusive Growth Across Africa’s New Economic Artery Washington, D.C., USA – May 14, 2025 — In a bold move to reshape Africa’s position in the global economy, Haim Taib, Founder and President of the Menomadin & Mitrelli Group, announced today, in partnership with Angola Sovereign Fund, the launch of a $1 billion Lobito Corridor Impact Development (LCID) Platform. This landmark private initiative will fuel sustainable, inclusive development across Angola, through the DRC, and into Zambia.

The platform opens with a joint commitment of $100 million from Haim Taib and Angola’s Sovereign Wealth Fund (FSDEA)—$50 million by each. Its mission is to invest in catalytic projects across agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, light industry, education, and digital inclusion that unlock economic value, empower local communities, and accelerate regional integration.

The Lobito Corridor Impact Development Platform (LCID Platform) is designed as an independent investment platform to accelerate Africa’s next phase of industrial and human development. The Platform invites institutional investors, sovereign partners, and private investors to join this mission, contributing capital, capabilities, and credibility. All projects will be evaluated and selected by an independent investment committee via tenders, ensuring strategic alignment, impact, feasibility and financial viability. Each project will be structured through a dedicated Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), enabling local and international companies to invest in the projects that most appeal to them.

“This is once in a generation opportunity and a call for global investors to lead the development of this new trade route of the world,” said Haim Taib. “The Lobito Corridor is not just a railway—it’s a new economic artery for Africa. This represents opportunities for future development by Africans, supported by global partnerships focused on trust, innovation, and shared prosperity. It is an opportunity to reshape Africa’s role in the global economy through strategic economic development and potentially impact the lives of 40 million people.”

Strategic Platform with Global Impact. Stretching from Angola’s Atlantic Port of Lobito through the DRC and into the mineral-rich Copperbelt of Zambia, the Lobito Corridor is emerging as a key route to global markets. It supports faster and safer access to the critical minerals required for renewable energy, EVs, semiconductors, and industries—at a time when resilient supply chains have become a top priority for the United States and the world. This corridor aims to connect, in the future, the Indian Ocean with the Atlantic Ocean, traversing Africa from east to west.

“The Lobito Corridor is more than infrastructure—it’s a catalyst for inclusive development,” said Dr. Armando Manuel, Chairman of FSDEA. “This partnership reflects a shared commitment to smart capital and strategic partnerships that prioritize long-term impact. It’s an African-led model—with global relevance. This is just the beginning. We are calling on more sovereign funds and global investors to join us in transforming the Lobito Corridor into a platform for scalable growth, prosperity, and global partnership.”

The LCID Platform will focus on transformative projects that generate financial returns and advance national development goals in the countries along the corridor. Investment priorities include agro-industrial ventures, manufacturing, digital infrastructure, vocational training, SME development, and youth entrepreneurship. It’s currently working with NAPSA—Zambia’s public pension fund—to identify strategic projects and investments across the Lobito Corridor.

This model—infrastructure as the foundation, human capital as the accelerator—aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and offers a compelling investment framework for U.S. and global partners.

Taib’s holdings are expanding to the USA to facilitate direct collaboration with American financial institutions, tech leaders, and DFIs. The Washington-based platform aims to expand public-private partnerships and mobilize capital in line with Africa’s green and digital transformation.

Copperbelt roads no longer a nightmare, Simuuwe says UPND means business

Copperbelt roads no longer a nightmare, Simuuwe says UPND means business

THE ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) has declared that the days of dusty shortcuts, pothole-riddled roads and abandoned infrastructure on the Copperbelt are now behind as the roads are now being worked on.

Speaking at a media briefing on Wednesday, UPND Media Director Mark Simuuwe proudly outlined what he described as the visible transformation of the Copperbelt’s road infrastructure, insisting that President Hakainde Hichilema’s government is delivering development with seriousness and not jokes.

According to Simuuwe, those saying President Hichilema’s administration is all talk and no action are deliberately ignoring a historic transformation of roads in mining towns that were once reduced to death traps.

The Copperbelt, once a stronghold of the Patriotic Front (PF), he said is now turning into a UPND development showroom.

“For the first time in many years, people in Kalulushi, Mpongwe, Masaiti, Lufwanyama and even in Kandabwe township are seeing real roads. Not empty promises. Not slogan shouting. We are talking about actual tarmac, bridges, gravel upgrading and safe road links,” Simuuwe said.

He cited the seven-kilometre stretch leading to Kalulushi across the railway line was already done, while roads in Kandabwe, a known hotspot for theft and copper heists, are now under the same infrastructure initiative.

Under the same drive, Simuuwe announced that each of the 22 constituencies in the province has received K3.1 million for road rehabilitation, while councils have been empowered to procure graders to quicken the works before the next rain season.

He further explained that the government’s focus on concrete roads will save the country millions in maintenance costs, saying the PF’s road model was built to collapse under inflated costs.

We are building roads without borrowing, and that is saving this country. For us, this is a success story for the people of the Copperbelt, and later for the people of Zambia,” Simuuwe stated.

Simuuwe Responds to Mumbi Phiri’s Remarks on Hot FM

Simuuwe Responds to Mumbi Phiri’s Remarks on Hot FM

United Party for National Development (UPND) Media Director Mark Simuuwe has responded to remarks made by Patriotic Front (PF) member Mumbi Phiri during her appearance on Hot Seat, a programme on Hot FM Radio.

In her comments, Ms. Phiri suggested that both President Hakainde Hichilema and Mr. Simuuwe harbored personal hatred toward former President Edgar Lungu.

In a measured response, Mr. Simuuwe expressed concern over the tone and language used during the broadcast, emphasizing the importance of maintaining responsible discourse, particularly from senior figures in society like Ms. Phiri whom she regards as a mother.

“It is not appropriate for parents and leaders to use such language on public platforms,” Mr. Simuuwe said. “Children and the general public listen to these programs, and we must all be mindful of the messages we send. We respectfully remind Ms. Phiri, as a mother and a senior politician, that she has a responsibility to promote unity and focus on strengthening the Tonse Alliance, which is currently facing challenges.”

Mr. Simuuwe refuted the suggestion of personal animosity towards Mr. Lungu, stressing that the UPND government is committed to the rule of law and justice for all.

“If there was any hatred toward Mr. Lungu, he would have been arrested the moment President Hichilema assumed office,” he said. “That has never been the case. Our priority has always been – and remains – the fight against corruption, irrespective of time, status, or political affiliation.”

He further reiterated that divisive language should not be used to shield anyone from accountability.

“Terms like ‘hatred’, ‘tribe’, or ‘political persecution’ should not be used to distract from the broader national interest, which is to ensure transparency, good governance, and development,” he added.

Mr. Simuuwe concluded by highlighting the progress made by the UPND government since taking office.

“We remain focused on delivering development in line with our party manifesto. To date, we have made significant progress, with around 90 percent of our goals already achieved,” he said.

NGOCC Urges Political Parties to Prioritize Female Candidates in Upcoming By-Elections

NGOCC Urges Political Parties to Prioritize Female Candidates in Upcoming By-Elections

The Non-governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has called on political parties to adopt female candidates in the forthcoming by-elections, emphasizing the need for inclusive and gender-balanced leadership.

In a press statement issued today, NGOCC Executive Director Anne Mbewe-Anamela appealed to all political parties contesting the Lumezi National Assembly by-election and the ward by-elections in Fibalala and Tuuwa Wards to take deliberate steps to include women in their candidate lists.

“Political parties have a duty to uphold the tenets of good governance, including fairness, inclusion and equality in their leadership,” the statement read.

NGOCC expressed concern over the persistent underrepresentation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in political processes, despite repeated commitments by political players to reverse the trend.

To address this challenge, the organisation launched the “Her Time is Now” campaign aimed at encouraging political parties and voters to support marginalized groups in both by-elections and the upcoming 2026 general elections.

“Over the years, we have observed a sad pattern where women and other marginalized groups are left out in the adoption of candidates. This must change,” said Mbewe-Anamela.

NGOCC, in collaboration with the Zambia Centre for Inter-Party Dialogue (ZCID), recently engaged political parties to increase inclusivity at parliamentary and local government levels. As a result of these engagements, twenty-six political parties signed a communiqué pledging to promote the participation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in decision-making roles through affirmative action.

The organisation views the upcoming by-elections as a critical test of political parties’ sincerity in implementing their commitments.

“We see the upcoming Lumezi parliamentary by-election as well as the two ward by-elections in Luapula and Western Provinces as an opportunity for both the ruling party and opposition political parties to demonstrate their commitment towards inclusion,” said Mbewe-Anamela.

NGOCC reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring and advocating for greater gender representation in Zambia’s political landscape.

“Aba Guyi Balibe Nsoni!” – Four Nabbed in Mansa for Printing Fake Money Like It’s Maheu

“Aba Guyi Balibe Nsoni!” – Four Nabbed in Mansa for Printing Fake Money Like It’s Maheu

You’ve heard of “printing money” as slang for getting rich quickly. But four bold men in Luapula took it literally until the long arm of the law caught up with their counterfeit schemes, all thanks to an alert mobile money booth operator and a suspicious K500 transaction.

In what police are calling one of the most daring and careless attempts at fast riches, Gerald Lwando (26), Clever Chilambe (30), Innocent Chomba (26), and Sydney Mubanga thought they could outsmart the system printing K59,100 in fake Kwacha and $4,400 in bogus U.S. dollars like they were photocopying school notes.

According to Luapula Province Police Commissioner Mwala Yuyi, the suspects started their day with high hopes and low morals. The trio from Kalikeka Village and New Mufulira Compound hired a motorcycle to Chembe District. But instead of real money, they pulled out crisp but clearly suspicious K100 notes, attempting to deposit K500 via mobile money.

But Gift Mwewa, the mobile money booth operator and unexpected hero of the day, smelled a rat. “Awee, pali ama colour yalifilwa! (The colours were off!),” he told bystanders as he refused to complete the transaction and raised an alarm.

Not ones to give up easily, the suspects tried another booth. But like a poorly rehearsed Nollywood plot, they were cornered by members of the public who had already gotten wind of their antics. The crowd, fueled by adrenaline and possibly a little street justice spirit, held the suspects until police arrived.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Sydney Mubanga, a man believed to be the “printing press” behind the operation. A raid at his residence uncovered printing equipment, inks, and materials believed to be used for producing the fake notes.

“Section 369 of the Penal Code is very clear,” said Commissioner Yuyi. “These gentlemen thought they could bring ‘Bank of Mubanga’ to the streets. But now, they’ll be printing court papers instead.”

All four suspects are currently in custody, awaiting their day in court, which might just be the most legitimate building they’ve entered in weeks.

The story has left Mansa residents buzzing.

“Awe sure, naimwe! Who tries to use fake money in a village where everyone knows each other?” asked a local trader. “It’s like using a forged school report at your own funeral!”

Another added, “These guys had the courage of lions, but the brains of chickens.”

As investigations continue, police have warned the public to be vigilant. If you receive money that looks like it was printed during a blackout, don’t hesitate to report it.

For now, the “chemistry boys” of Kalikeka Village will be trading their fake dollars for genuine prison time.

GOVT SAYS INRIS SMART NRC PROJECT JUST PAUSED, NOT CANCELLED

By Limpo Nyambe

The Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security has clarified that the Integrated National Registration Information System-INRIS- project aimed at upgrading National Registration Cards-NRCS- to smartcards, has not been cancelled, but is temporarily paused.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Ministry of Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Dickson Matambo has attributed the delay to the declaration of national emergency in response to the severe drought that had affected large parts of the country.

Mr. Matambo explains that government reallocated funds from certain capital projects, including the INRIS, to address urgent humanitarian needs such as food security and economic support for citizens impacted by the drought.

He has assured the public that the project will be rescheduled once the emergency is lifted.

His remarks follow growing public concern over delays in implementing the smart NRC system, which is intended to integrate national identification with other government services.

National Pensions Scheme Authority (NAPSA) Director General, Muyangwa Muyangwa, has announced plans by the Authority to invest in mineral value addition as part of its strategy to support national development, enhance member benefits, and unlock greater value from Zambia’s mineral wealth.

Speaking on the Authority’s strategic shift, Mr. Muyangwa said the time had come for the country to move beyond exporting raw minerals and begin investing in processing and manufacturing capabilities that retain value within Zambia.

“For a long time now, citizens have expressed concern about the lack of visible benefits from our vast mineral wealth. The real value lies not in exporting raw materials but in producing finished goods. This is where real money is made, and this is the path to long-term national benefit,” Mr. Muyangwa said.

He noted that Zambia currently plays at the lower end of the mining value chain, exporting raw or semi-processed materials.

“As NAPSA, we have called for proposals from experts and entrepreneurs in the mining and manufacturing sectors who are capable of setting up industries that add value to minerals like copper, gold, manganese, and others. We want to invest in ventures that process these minerals locally, turning them into finished products such as wires, jewelry, and other goods for export,” he said.

On Economic and Social Impact Mr. Muyangwa highlighted that this initiative will not only contribute to national development but will also provide direct and indirect benefits to NAPSA members.

“Value addition in mining will lead to the creation of more jobs, which translates into more employees contributing to the pension scheme. It also offers an opportunity to formalize the artisanal and small-scale mining sector, ensuring that miners receive fair value for their efforts while being integrated into the formal economy,” he said.

He explained that NAPSA envisions an integrated industrial model where formal processing plants will source raw materials from small-scale miners, process them locally, and produce finished products for export.

This model will help stimulate the local economy, support the livelihoods of artisanal miners, and encourage responsible mining practices under formal regulation.

Boosting Foreign Exchange and National Reserves Mr. Muyangwa said beyond NAPSA, the country as a whole stands to gain from increased foreign exchange earnings and the stabilization of the exchange rate.

“By exporting finished products instead of raw materials, Zambia will earn higher returns, which will help stabilize the Kwacha and grow our national reserves. This aligns perfectly with NAPSA’s commitment to supporting economic transformation and sustainable national development,” he said.

A Strategic Turning Point Mr. Muyangwa described this move as a turning point in Zambia’s approach to mining and economic empowerment.

“For decades, Zambians have lamented the limited benefits from our mineral wealth. Since the days of ZCCM, we’ve seen mining profits largely flow out of the country. This initiative by NAPSA marks a new era—one in which we can begin to see real, long-term value creation and retention from our natural resources,” he concluded.

NAPSA is committed to working with government and private sector players to realize this vision and calls on qualified partners to submit investment proposals that align with the Authority’s goals for inclusive, value-driven economic growth.

SUNREI RAISES CONCERN OVER RECURRING KAFUE RIVER POLLUTION

SUNREI RAISES CONCERN OVER RECURRING KAFUE RIVER POLLUTION

Sustainable Natural Resource Empowerment Initiative-SUNREI- has expressed concern over the recurring pollution of the Kafue River, which has led to the disruption in water supply services by Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company.

Following suspected pollution of the Kafue River, Minister of Water Development and Sanitation, Collins Nzovu, yesterday announced precautionary measures taken to protect public health including the temporary suspension of operations at the Kafue raw water pump station in Chililabombwe to allow for a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

Mr. Nzovu explained that the decision followed initial observations of unusual turbidity in the raw water supply, prompting immediate sampling and laboratory analysis, although preliminary test results had been inconclusive.

SUNREI National Coordinator, Eugene Mulenga in an interview with Phoenix News, has attributed the pollution to inadequate planning and monitoring by local authorities, particularly in the mining sector, and has urged stakeholders to take immediate action to address the issue and implement measures to prevent future incidents.

Mr. Mulenga has emphasized the need for stronger monitoring institutions within the mining sector to curb pollution, further noting that uncoordinated land allocation has contributed to the environmental degradation of the Kafue River, threatening biodiversity and the livelihoods of surrounding communities.

Zambians Slam Government Over Electricity Crisis, Afrobarometer Survey Reveals

Zambians Slam Government Over Electricity Crisis, Afrobarometer Survey Reveals

A new Afrobarometer survey has revealed deep dissatisfaction among Zambians with the government’s performance in providing a reliable supply of electricity, highlighting a growing crisis that has left large parts of the country in the dark and the economy struggling under the weight of daily load shedding.

According to the survey, 83% of Zambians say the government is performing poorly in ensuring a steady power supply nearly double the disapproval rate recorded in 2022. Of those respondents, 63% rate the government’s performance as “very bad.”

The findings come as the country grapples with prolonged power cuts that have crippled industries, disrupted livelihoods, and sparked calls for urgent energy reforms. Despite public frustration, nearly three-fourths (73%) of Zambians reject the idea of privatizing ZESCO, the state-owned electricity utility, though a strong majority (78%) supports allowing independent actors to generate and distribute electricity.

“This shows that while citizens want better services, they are wary of privatization but open to breaking the monopoly to introduce competition,” said Edward Chibwili of the Institute of Economic and Social Research (INESOR), the Afrobarometer national partner in Zambia.

The survey also revealed that just 55% of citizens live in areas connected to the national power grid, underscoring persistent infrastructural gaps. When asked whether they would be willing to pay more for better electricity services, opinions were split: 48% said yes, while 42% disagreed.

The data was collected between 8 and 28 July 2024, through face-to-face interviews with a nationally representative sample of 1,200 adult Zambians. The margin of error is ±3 percentage points.

The results add to mounting pressure on the government to address the country’s energy challenges, especially as Zambia seeks to revitalize its economy and attract investment.

UPND Promised a New Dawn — But Delivered Familiar Shadows
By George N. Mtonga

UPND Promised a New Dawn — But Delivered Familiar Shadows
By George N. Mtonga

When the United Party for National Development (UPND) swept into power in 2021, they did so on the back of a hopeful, frustrated, and energized electorate. Their victory was not just a rejection of the Patriotic Front (PF); it was a cry for dignity, for institutional reform, for civil liberties, and for a Zambia in which justice and freedom are not reserved for the privileged few. Theirs was a campaign that promised a “New Dawn.”

But as we approach 2026, Zambians are asking a painful but necessary question: Where is that dawn?

The promises of the UPND were not modest. They were grand and specific. The manifesto, a document of bold ambition, pledged to restore freedoms, depoliticize public institutions, empower the youth, unite the country, and deliver justice without fear or favor. It is only right, then, that we hold those promises against the reality we now live in.

1. Freedom of Expression: From Promise to Suppression

One of UPND’s strongest selling points was their commitment to protecting civil liberties. Zambians were told that the dark days of censorship and state-sponsored intimidation were over. But today, we are witnessing a digital crackdown on free speech. The 2025 Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act — hurriedly passed with minimal consultation — has created a culture of fear online. Citizens now self-censor, fearing arrest for what they post on Facebook or say on WhatsApp.

What was promised as freedom has been repackaged as control.

2. Justice Still Wears Political Colors

The UPND campaigned on restoring the rule of law. But justice in Zambia still appears to depend on political affiliation. Former PF officials are arrested in dramatic fashion and held without resolution. Meanwhile, ruling party insiders accused of corruption or abuse face little more than newspaper headlines. The public, once hopeful for impartial justice, is now growing cynical — because the law still seems to chase enemies while shielding allies.

Zambians didn’t vote for selective prosecution. They voted for justice without bias.

3. Institutions Remain Captured

The promise was to restore independence to institutions like the Electoral Commission of Zambia, ZICTA, and the Zambia Police. Yet the behavior of these bodies has not drastically changed. The police still act on partisan orders, the ECZ still lacks credibility in the eyes of many voters, and ZICTA — far from being reformed — is now the primary enforcer of speech control.

The UPND may have changed the faces, but not the foundation. The capture remains — only the captors have changed.

4. The Youth Were Used, Not Empowered

No demographic turned out in greater numbers for the UPND than Zambia’s youth. They were promised inclusion, opportunity, and a voice in national development. Instead, they were given token appointments, inconsistent empowerment schemes, and left out of critical national conversations. The young Zambians who marched for democracy in 2021 now feel sidelined by a government that speaks to them only when cameras are on.

You cannot claim to lead a new generation if you ignore its voice.

  5. The Public Order Act Still Looms

How can we speak of progress when the very law used to silence opposition — the Public Order Act — still stands, untouched? The UPND built its political movement on the promise of repealing or reforming this colonial relic. Four years later, it remains in force, and opposition parties still face harassment when attempting to hold rallies or meetings.

The question is simple: Why promise to end repression if you intend to use it?

6. Civic Space is Shrinking, Not Expanding

Zambia once prided itself on a vibrant civil society. Under UPND, however, that space is shrinking. NGOs face new registration challenges and are kept at arm’s length from key policy processes. Independent journalists face subtle intimidation and limited access. The promise of a participatory democracy has been replaced by a performative one.

Conclusion: A Mandate Must Be Earned — Not Assumed

The UPND may have entered office on a wave of hope, but hope fades when not fed by action. While some may still consider them the lesser evil, they must not be handed another landslide victory. In fact, their reduced support in local by-elections and rising public frustration point to a nation that wants to send a message — not necessarily to remove them, but to humble them.

If they are to win in 2026, let it be by merit, not memory. Let it be with checks and balances, not blind loyalty.

Zambians voted for a dawn — not a dusk that feels all too familiar. The New Dawn must be held accountable before it becomes the old nightmare.

Some of these MPs should be used as a message by making them lose their seats!!!

ZCCM-IH Minority Shareholder Demand Investigations at Mushe Milling, Kasenseli Gold

ZCCM-IH Minority Shareholder Demand Investigations at Mushe Milling, Kasenseli Gold

ZCCM Defense press release – request of investigation to ACC against Minister of Defense Ambrose Lufuma, ZNS Commander Lt Gen Maliti Solochi and deputy Commander Maj Gen Reuben Mwewa, as well as against ZCCM-IH Board of Directors

By an official letter dated 11 May 2025, as President of ZCCM Defense, I requested the Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the suspicious conducts of Zambia National Service and Zambian Army.

1. Mushe Milling Indeed, we have been informed by high-placed Zambians that the Zambia National Service has illegally diverted and operates ZCCM-IH’s Mushe Milling mill without any authorisation for more than a year.

Where does the produced mealie meal go? What is happening there ? The price of
mealie meal is astronomical and continues to raise.

Are high ranking military officers
involved in speculation to line their own pockets? Who is making money off of the
Shareholders of ZCCM-IH with Mushe Milling ?

Many unanswered questions…

The Army’s take-over of the mill is highly fraudulent ; everything is hidden, even though ZCCM-
IH is the sole owner and legal operator of Mushe Milling.

Beyond the major risk of misappropriation due to the opacity of the operations, the takeover by the armed wing of the Zambian state of one of the assets of a company listed
on various international Stock Exchanges is totally illegal.

What is most surprising is that the Management of ZCCM-IH did not inform the
Shareholders during the last AGM that the Company was being defrauded.

We also requested the Commission to launch investigations at ZCCM-IH to find out who had an interest in censoring this information and who the accomplices within ZCCM-IH are

2. Kasenseli Mine
At the time of the closure of the Kasenseli gold mine, which according to Mines Minister Paul Kabuswe was to last just one month, the Zambia National Service and Zambian Army were
responsible for guarding the mine.

Yet the fences were strangely ransacked and Jerabos have
mined gold.

Worse still, the Zambian army was even accused of mining the gold during the long
years of closure according to testimonials on social networks.

In response to the uproar and
accusations, three ZNS officers were fired for illegal gold mining (1).We pointed out the many suspicious acts at Kasenseli in our press release. “What is going on at Kasenseli gold mine ? Who is harming ZCCM-IH and Zambia’s interests ?” (3)
Last year, the Press has reported that the ACC was investigating the Zambia Army and Ministry of Defense for corruption and money laundering over a payment of US$5.3 million to kenyan DLS (2).

3. Recurrence of embezzlement in the Army.

4. Request of investigations
It seems that there is a lot of malpractice linked to the Army.

This is why, to safeguard the
interests of ZCCM-IH Shareholders, I requested the Commission to launch thorough
investigations against Minister of Defense Ambrose Lufuma, ZNS Commander Lt Gen.Maliti Solochi and deputy Commander Maj Gen Reuben Mwewa, as well as against ZCCM-IH’s Board of Directors, which is strangely turning a blind eye to this spoliation, is flouting the rules of listed companies and is not acting to defend the interests of the
Company and its shareholders.

I’LL MAKE FORMAL COMPLAINT TO SDA CHURCH OVER MY REJECTED CATTLE DONATION – MONDE

PF member Greyford Monde, who is also an SDA elder, has expressed disappointment over being allegedly blocked from donating cattle at an SDA Dorcas Rally attended by President Hakainde Hichilema recently.

Last week, during the SDA Dorcas Rally held in Monze, Monde wanted to donate 10 cattle, but Southern Region Conference president Pastor Vanny Munyumbwe reportedly turned down his donation, stating that President Hichilema, who was officiating at the event, had also pledged to make a similar donation.

Commenting on that in an interview, Monday, Monde said he would write a formal complaint to the Church, as the action was not right.

“I’m a leader in the SDA church with full rights as a member. This matter happened, which I…

ZESCO CITES POOR RECOVERY OF KAFUE RIVER AFTER RAINS FOR PROLONGED POWER DEFICIT

ZESCO CITES POOR RECOVERY OF KAFUE RIVER AFTER RAINS FOR PROLONGED POWER DEFICIT

Zesco Board Chairperson Vickson N’cube has attributed the country’s sustained power deficit to the failure by the Kafue River and its tributaries to recover as expected this rainy season, contributing significantly to the ongoing power crisis.

Mr. N’cube says Zambia’s main source of hydro power is the Kafue River, which, along with the Kariba dam, normally ensures stable electricity supply during good rainfall seasons.

He emphasized that the Kafue River is just as important to the Zambian economy as Kariba, which is a shared facility with Zimbabwe.

Mr. Ncube explains that under normal water levels, Itezhi-Tezhi produces 120 megawatts, Kafue gorge 990 megawatts, and Kafue gorge lower 750 megawatts while if fully operational, the Kariba could generate up to 1,080 megawatts.

Mr. Ncube says Zesco is now more focused on solar based solutions in response to the power deficit as well as its overall strategy to dilute the dependence on hydropower.
