Kanye West Fires Back At Adidas As He Reveal Flexing Unfathomable Yeezy Earnings

In a rather unusual display of self-confidence, as many observers describe it, Kanye West went to Instagram and shared several posts particularly aimed at his former fashion collaborator, Adidas, HipHopDX, reports.

Some days ago, he targeted the German athletic apparel brand for allegedly having their website show up on Google first even when you type in “Yeezy” instead. “When you google http://Yeezy.com the adidas site comes before the Yeezy site. Stop doing this. Stop doing your moves to hold me back. Our partnership is done,” he claimed.

He then ensured his message was clarified by adding that Adidas is a 60-billion-dollar company that froze his accounts, but at the moment, he is back on his feet and isn’t going to stand for that form of treatment again.

Adidas appeared to swiftly follow up on his demands by removing everything Yeezy-related on their website. But even though they technically complied, Kanye West is making sure to let them and everyone else know that they’re through nor does he need their clout.

He started this series of flexes with a since-deleted Instagram post writing, “I don’t collab. No paid ads. I am the Yon. Yeezy over everything. If you design and don’t work at Yeezy close your dirty a** laptop and go to bed.”

He then proceeded to boast the earnings from his current $20 Yeezy drop including different colored sweatpants, socks, etc. He further claimed on Monday that he made $2,339,096 in 24 hours.

In other news, Kanye West’s ex-chief of staff, Milo Yiannopoulos, claimed that the rapper was secretly addicted to nitrous gas. Yiannopoulos dropped this bombshell on August 7, and placed the blame on dentist Thomas P. Connelly. The ex-chief of staff believed Connelly was getting the rapper hooked in an attempt to “[diminish] Ye’s mental faculties so that… his business associates could extract millions of dollars from him.”

Kanye West and Connelly have denied any claims of nitrous addiction. A recent piece of evidence, however, supports Yiannopoulos’ theory.

Cardi B goes off on Offset again, claims he didn’t get their children anything for Christmas

Cardi B and Offset are still on the rocks. Recently, the 32-year-old claimed that her soon-to-be ex-husband, out of spite, failed to give their three children anything for Christmas.

The couple has a daughter, Kulture, who is six years old, a son, Wave, who is three years old, and a daughter, who was born in September and is four months old.

The Bodak Yellow rapper went off on the former Migos rapper in an X post, saying, “You wanna talk about you haven’t accepted the divorce because you’re not gonna be on my terms because you just wanna see the kids. You wanna see the kids? You just called your daughter for the first time this year yesterday. Your newborn.”

“You love your kids so much and you ain’t bought them shit for Christmas, but you came to New York to buy your other kids gifts, but you ain’t bought my kids shit on purpose to spite me,” she said during the live stream post, as per Billboard.

In the meantime, Cardi B has declared that she is done dating, at least for the next month, according to HipHopDX.

The “WAP” rapper went live on social media last weekend to disclose that she wanted to stay away from anything that could distract her from her artistic targets including sex, during the “very crucial” month of January.

She stated, “I don’t even want to take dck right now, because every single time I take dck, I get distracted. I don’t want no distraction. I put a little pause on my dating life because January is very, very, very, very important, and I have a mission to complete. And if I don’t complete this mission, it’s gonna fuck up the schedule for this year.”

According to Cardi, “I already feel like I’ve been getting tested” just a few days into the new year. But, she asserted that she hasn’t given up.

“I’m so proud of myself,” she remarked.

Bardi explained that she needs this separation because she gets very attached to any relationship she’s in, and it impacts every aspect of her life.

“I’m a very emotional person, and when I get emotional, I don’t do things with love,” she said. “And you could hear it in my music: my voice cracks a lot. You could see it in my face when I work. I just don’t got thrive when I get emotional.”

She concluded, “I don’t even want to entertain n*ggas because I’m the type of person that, if I text you and you ain’t text me back in thirty minutes, you pissed me off. So now I’m pissed at you for a whole two hours, so now I’m distracted. So I don’t even want to entertain n-ggas right now until my work is out the way.”

Cardi and Offset, who married in 2017, are currently entangled in a nasty divorce and have had multiple angry internet spats.

TMZ reported earlier this month that Offset had moved on with a new girlfriend after being sighted in Dubai with model Melanie Jayda, who is based in Atlanta.

The rapper was seen having a great time shopping with Jayda in images and videos that the outlet was able to secure. They went to a Chanel store and made a staggering $100,000 worth of purchases.

No more miners trapped underground in South Africa – Volunteers

No more illegal miners are believed to be trapped underground at a gold mine in South Africa, volunteers working with rescue teams have said.

At least 78 bodies and more than 200 survivors have been pulled out since Monday after a court ordered the government to facilitate rescue operations at the mine, the site of one of the most extraordinary tragedies to hit the industry.

Police said they would check that no-one was left on Thursday, when a rescue cage would be sent down the mine.

The stand-off began in November when the government ordered police to arrest any miner who surfaced, saying it was determined to end illegal mining.

This story contains a video that some people may find distressing.

During a visit on Tuesday, the police and mines ministers were insulted and told to leave by an angry crowd that blamed the government for the deaths.

Police said that more than 1,500 miners had come to the surface before the rescue operation began, Reuters news agency reports.

However, others remained underground, either because they feared arrest or were forced to stay there by gangs that control the mine.

A South African Police Service spokesman said of the volunteers’ statement that no-one was now still underground: “We will rely on the Mine Rescue Service to confirm this with their state-of-the-art equipment that will hopefully be able to give us a picture of what is happening underground.

“The Mine Rescue Service have confirmed that they will send the cage underground in the morning to see if any illegal miners surface with the cage. We cannot say for sure that the operation has been called off at this stage.”

Inside South Africa’s ‘ruthless’ gang-controlled gold mines
Many mines in South Africa have been abandoned over the last three decades by companies that did not find them economically viable.

The mines have been taken over by gangs, often former employees, that sell minerals they find on the black market.

This includes the mine in Stilfontein, some 145km (90 miles) south-west of the country’s biggest city, Johannesburg, which has been the focus of government efforts to clamp down on the illegal industry.

A rescue cage has been making trips down a shaft to reach scores of miners thought to be at least 2km (1.2 miles) underground.

Many of the survivors had been without food and water since November, leaving them emaciated. They are now receiving medical care.

The authorities say they will be charged with illegal mining, trespassing and contravention of immigration laws, as the majority of the miners are undocumented migrants from neighbouring countries.

“It’s a crime against the economy, it’s an attack on the economy,” Mines Minister Gwede Mantashe said on Wednesday as he defended the hard line taken against the miners.

South Africa relied heavily on miners from countries such as Lesotho and Mozambique before the industry went into decline.

Unemployment in South Africa is currently more than 30% and many former miners say they have little alternative source of income.

Police launch investigation into social media abuse aimed at Kai Havertz’s pregnant wife

Police have launched an investigation into social media abuse aimed at Arsenal forward Kai Havertz’s pregnant wife following the club’s exit to Manchester United in the FA Cup.

Havertz, 25, missed a penalty in Arsenal’s shootout defeat at the Emirates on Sunday before his partner, Sophia, who is expecting her first child with the Germany international, reposted two abhorrent messages she had received on Instagram.

Arsenal tasked data technology company Signify with determining the identity of the abusers and the PA news agency understands that the matter has now been taken up by local authorities.

A Hertfordshire Constabulary spokesperson told PA: ‘Officers have received a report of malicious communications towards a Hertfordshire resident on Sunday 12 January. Enquiries are underway.’

Speaking on the eve of Arsenal’s Premier League match against Tottenham, manager Mikel Arteta called for action to be taken.

The Spaniard said: ‘It’s incredible, honestly. We really have to do something about it, because accepting that and hiding this has terrible consequences.

‘It’s something we have to eradicate from the game because it’s so cynical and dependent to a result of an action. There is no other industry like this.

‘When we played Ipswich on December 27, we won 1-0 and Kai Havertz scored. The whole stadium after that is singing the “Waka, Waka” (his chant). That was 20 days ago. Where is the perspective?

‘We are all responsible. You guys (the media) are responsible, everybody is responsible for the narrative and how we talk. We cannot look somewhere else. That’s a really serious matter. It affects me. It affects him and everybody that is in the industry.

‘We can accept it and say ‘that’s our job’, but there are certain limits and the line has to be drawn. We put a lot of attention on technology and what is next in football. What is next in football is that this should be prohibited. It cannot happen. That’s it.’

Pope Francis has suffered a fall and injured his right arm but did not sustain any fractures

Pope Francis has suffered a fall and injured his right arm but did not sustain any fractures, according to a statement from the Vatican. The Holy See press office reported that the 88-year-old pontiff fell Thursday morning at Casa Santa Marta, his residence, resulting in a contusion to his right forearm. The statement noted that his arm has been immobilized as a precautionary measure.

Photographs released by the Vatican showed the pope wearing a cloth sling while continuing with his official duties. Despite the fall, Francis maintained a full schedule, holding five meetings on Thursday, including one with Alvaro Lario, President of the International Fund of Agricultural Development, and another with priests from an Argentine college in Rome.

The incident follows the pope’s general audience on Wednesday, where he appeared in good spirits, even tossing a tennis ball to a dog during a circus performance. However, this marks the second fall for the pope in recent weeks. In early December, he sustained a large bruise on his chin after falling and hitting his bedside table during the night.

Pope Francis has faced several health challenges in recent years. Since 2022, he has been using a wheelchair due to knee pain and mobility issues. In his recently published autobiography Hope, the pope addressed his health, describing it as generally good while acknowledging the realities of aging. “The reality is, quite simply, that I am old,” he wrote.

Reflecting on his physical limitations, Francis admitted that initially, using a wheelchair was “embarrassing,” but he emphasized the importance of adapting to old age. “Old age never arrives by itself, and it must be accepted for what it is,” he said. He also noted, “The Church is governed using the head and the heart, not the legs. I do physiotherapy twice a week, I use a walking stick, do as many steps as I can, and I carry on.”

The pope has ruled out resigning from his position, reaffirming his commitment to leading the Church despite his physical challenges.

Netizens roast Lungu over call for protest, demand he brings back his children

Netizens roast Lungu over call for protest, demand he brings back his children

FORMER President Edgar Lungu’s recent call for Zambians to protest against what he called a government sponsored attack on democracy has backfired, with citizens mocking him online.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/15MtqPr2vg/?mibextid=oFDknk

Lungu found himself at the receiving end of public backlash after he issued a statement criticising what he described as an attempt by President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration to undermine democracy and reverse a 2020 Constitutional Court (Concourt) ruling.

The 2020 ruling, which was delivered during Lungu’s presidency, declared it unconstitutional for ministers to remain in office and on payroll after the dissolution of Parliament, a practice his administration had implemented in 2016.

The Concourt not only ruled against this practice but also ordered his ministers to refund the salaries and allowances they received during the period.

Lungu’s recent remarks were in response to a new petition filed by a Lusaka based lawyer who is now reportedly challenging the ConCourt ruling, asking the Court to quash their earlier decision of 2020, which he claims is being sponsored by the UPND government as part of a broader agenda to manipulate the judiciary.

In his statement, Lungu labeled the move as another high profile assault on the  judiciary, democracy and constitutionalism.

He also likened it to the December 10, 2024 Concourt decision that barred him from contesting future elections.

Lungu went on to call on citizens to stand up against the petition through peaceful protests and legal actions.

However, his call to action was met with widespread criticism, with many netizens in his comment section accusing him of hypocrisy and urging him to “bring back his children” from abroad to lead the protests.

Many questioned why Lungu’s children, Tasila and Dalitso, allegedly living abroad, are not leading the charge of his concerns about the Constitutional Court’s proceedings.

His Facebook page was met with comments from citizens who expressed disapproval of his remarks.

One of the netizens by the name of Likezo Pumulu advised Lungu to keep quiet, telling him that things were no longer the same as he could not be able to manicure cases anymore.

“Sometimes silence is Golden. The Constitutional court has not even sat to look at the case and you are already crying foul. Problem you think things will be the way they used to happen during your tenure where you used to manipulate cases. Bola panshi Mwisho..just continue watching from the terraces,” he said.

Other commenters mockingly addressed the former president, urging him to bring back Dalitso and Tasila to Zambia so they could lead with the protests that their father was calling for.

“Tell Tasila to come, we fight this government together,” commented Basil.

“Peaceful demonstration while your children are safe abroad. Sir bring them to lead by example,” wrote Simon Kalaba.

Joseph Malasa wrote:,“Are Tasila and Dalitso going to be in the forefront when we do a peaceful demonstration?”

Pearson Chisuka: “Count me out, your children are abroad then you want your friend’s children to stand up and fight dad, no sir, please count me out of this fight I beg.”

Other netizens advised the former President to stand up alone and protest if he was really affected.

“Since you are a lawyer, stand up alone first.”

“When you were breaking rules of law, didn’t you think that there will be time when the broken laws will stand again. Be ready to bear it with the ones you were eating with and leave us alone please,” read one of the comments.

Postmortem on Garden Skeleton inconclusive, mother, daughters remain in detention

Postmortem on Garden Skeleton inconclusive, mother, daughters remain in detention

POLICE have disclosed that the postmortem carried on the skeletal remains of George Kalaba from Lusaka’s Garden compound, reportedly killed by his wife and kept for two years in the house, is still inconclusive.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19UwGyTaFk/?mibextid=oFDknk

Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga told Kalemba that a pathologist yesterday took test from the remains and conducted a postmortem, but that the results are yet to be finalised.

Hamoonga said the inconclusive results will have to mean that the investigations in the matter will continue as the cause of death is yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile the family of George has finally put to rest his remains at Mutumbi Cemetery today and have set his funeral in Lusaka’s Obama area.

Furthermore, Hamoonga shared that the prime suspect in George’s death, Sylvia Mutoba is still in detention after she was arrested for murder, along with her daughters Natasha Kalaba, 19, Sandra Kalaba, 22, Wendi Kalaba, 27 and a female juvenile aged 15.

“The detained suspect remain in police custody because they are still part of the investigations until the postmortem results will be given and police will know the cause of death which will determine whether they had a hand in his death or not,” said Hamoonga.

Kaluba was allegedly murdered by his wife and four daughter and later kept his body laid on their matrimonial bed for two years until his body was reduced to a skeleton.

According to neighbors, Silvia and her daughters lived a normal life in their house despite having a corpse in the house, and even held prayers and also launched a Christmas party in the same home to derail neighbours from suspecting anything off.

George’s family members and friends were blocked from contacting or seeing him during the period.

The victim’s elder brother, Emmanuel Kalaba visited the home with the police and uncovered the truth behind his missing brother leasing to the arrest after they forced themselves in due to resistance from Sylvia and  her four daughters.

FORMER KABWE SOCIALIST PARTY LEADERS CALL OUT LEADERSHIP OVER ALLEGED EXPLOITATION, LACK OF SUPPORT

FORMER KABWE SOCIALIST PARTY LEADERS CALL OUT LEADERSHIP OVER ALLEGED EXPLOITATION, LACK OF SUPPORT

Dr. Gabriel B. Nsofwa in Kabwe, alongside other provincial leaders who recently resigned from the Socialist Party (SP), has issued a statement condemning remarks made by Dr. Cosmas Musumali, the party’s general secretary, regarding the resignations. Dr. Musumali had suggested that the departures were tied to demands for subsistence and transport allowances, a claim the former leaders have dismissed as “misleading and unjust.”

In his statement, Dr. Nsofwa emphasized that the resignations stemmed not from financial demands but from broader concerns about the party’s lack of investment in its own mobilization efforts and its reliance on poor communities to fund and organize activities.

“We find this accusation troubling, as it distracts from the core issues that led to these resignations. The truth is that party members are resigning because they don’t want to be used and dumped,” Dr. Nsofwa said.

He criticized the party’s leadership for failing to support its grassroots structures and relying on the financial contributions of impoverished communities. He argued that such practices contradict the party’s proclaimed mission to serve the poor, calling it a form of exploitation.

“The Socialist Party needs to invest its own resources into its operations and mobilization instead of relying on the very same poor communities it claims to support. Asking these communities to continually fund party activities is a betrayal of the party’s mandate,” Dr. Nsofwa stated.

He further called out the leadership for failing to fulfill promises made to members during recruitment, particularly in rural areas such as Muwowo, Chimanimani, Kawama, and Makululu. He highlighted instances where members were required to walk long distances for party mobilization without any support, such as bicycles, while top leaders allegedly enriched themselves.

“Why must the party wait until elections are won before demonstrating care for the poor? How can a revolution occur when those driving it fail to invest the necessary resources into the cause?” he asked.

Dr. Nsofwa urged the party leadership to address the growing dissatisfaction among members, particularly the lack of support for mobilization, which he described as unsustainable. He warned that failure to address these issues would result in more members and structures shifting allegiance to parties that genuinely care for the people.

The statement also highlighted what Dr. Nsofwa referred to as a widening inequality within the party, accusing top leadership of hypocrisy and neglecting the grassroots.

“We strongly believe that the party needs to demonstrate genuine care and commitment to its supporters. This can only be achieved by ensuring that the leadership puts its resources where its mouth is,” he said.

Dr. Nsofwa concluded by calling on Dr. Musumali to address these concerns directly and reflect on the true essence of the socialist movement. He emphasized that without genuine action, the Socialist Party risks alienating its supporters and losing the loyalty of those who have remained committed despite immense challenges.

Mweelwa Muleya Must be embarrassed by partisan comments

Response to HRC Spokesperson Mwelwa Muleya’s Claims on Human Rights Progress in Zambia*

I respectfully disagree with Mr. Muleya’s assertion that there has been “tremendous progress” in upholding human rights in Zambia over the past two years. While he claims a shift from past practices of impunity, evidence suggests a significant decline in human rights under the current government. Below are the key issues:

1. Detention Without Trial

Mr. Muleya’s statement fails to address the plight of many opposition members who have been detained without trial for extended periods, violating their constitutional rights.
• Francis Kapwepe and Rajan Patel have been held for over a year without trial or formal charges, exemplifying a breach of the right to a fair and speedy trial.

2. Erosion of Freedom of Speech

The government has significantly curtailed freedom of speech, with opposition figures frequently facing charges of sedition.
• Sedition, a colonial-era charge, is now being weaponized against political dissenters.
• A recent example is the arrest of the Member of Parliament for Nkana for merely urging the masses to defend themselves. This followed incidents of violence during the Kawamba by-election, where Zambia Police failed to protect opposition members.

3. Selective Justice and a Compromised Judiciary

The justice system appears to be biased in favor of the ruling party:
• The Zambia Police consistently fail to act on reports of violence perpetrated by ruling party supporters, while opposition figures face prolonged trials and arbitrary arrests.
• For instance, individuals like Minister Syakalima and Chibokolo have publicly insulted opposition members and entire ethnic groups without facing any consequences, highlighting the selective application of justice.
• The recent Constitutional Court ruling against the former president demonstrated significant bias, with reports suggesting some judges have personal or business ties to the current president.

4. Global Criticism of Zambia’s Human Rights Record

Contrary to the HRC’s claims, international organizations have highlighted widespread human rights violations in Zambia:
• The U.S. Department of State (2022) reported arbitrary arrests and prolonged detentions.
• Amnesty International’s 2022-2023 report criticized the suppression of freedoms of speech and assembly.
• The United Nations (2024) raised concerns about arbitrary arrests and detentions under the current administration.

5. Lack of Accountability for Political Violence

The Kawamba by-election serves as a clear example of Zambia Police’s failure to protect opposition members from violent attacks by ruling party supporters. This selective enforcement of the law undermines public trust in state institutions and further erodes democracy.

Conclusion

Mr. Muleya’s statement fails to acknowledge the worsening human rights situation in Zambia. Reports of arbitrary arrests, prolonged detentions, judicial bias, and suppression of fundamental freedoms contradict claims of progress. Both local and international organizations have raised serious concerns about these violations, which must be addressed urgently to uphold justice, equality, and the protection of all Zambians’ rights.

Seditious Practices – The Persistence of Colonial Era Laws

Seditious Practices – The Persistence of Colonial Era Laws

By Thompson K Luzendi, SP Member & Activist

After 60 years of independence, Zambia continues to grapple with the shadow of colonial rule in its legal framework. The continued application of colonial era laws, such as seditious practices, raises critical questions about the true extent of our nation’s freedom. These laws, once instruments of oppression used by colonial authorities to suppress African dissent and independence movements, are now being wielded by those in power to silence political opponents and stifle democratic discourse. The most recent example is the arrest of Hon Binwell Chansa Mpundu, Member of Parliament for Nkana Constituency.

During the colonial period, laws criminalizing sedition were designed to maintain the status quo of colonial domination. These laws were used to crush any form of dissent, from peaceful protests to vocal opposition to colonial rule. African leaders and activists who sought independence were frequently labeled as “seditious” and subjected to imprisonment, harassment, and other forms of persecution. For instance, freedom fighters such as Kenneth Kaunda and Harry Nkumbula were at various times arrested under such laws for daring to advocate for the liberation of Zambia from British rule.

These laws were written to serve a regime whose primary interest was not justice but the maintenance of an exploitative and oppressive system. They criminalized any expression of dissent against the colonial administration, effectively silencing the voices of those who sought self-determination and freedom. Unfortunately, despite achieving independence in 1964, these draconian laws remain on our statute books, a painful reminder of a past that we should have long left behind.

Despite the promise of freedom and democracy at independence, successive Zambian governments have continued to use these laws to suppress opposition and dissent from citizens and perceived political opponents. Rather than being repealed, these laws have been repurposed to serve the interests of those in power. The arrest of opposition leaders, activists, and journalists under the guise of combating sedition has become a recurring pattern in Zambian politics.

The arrest of Hon Binwell Chansa Mpundu is a case in point. As an opposition MP, Binwell’s detention under laws that criminalize seditious practices reflects a worrying trend of using colonial era tools of oppression to intimidate political opponents. This is not an isolated incident. In recent past, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema before becoming president and activist Laura Miti, also faced legal persecution under similar laws. These actions undermine the democratic principles enshrined in Zambia’s Constitution and tarnish the country’s reputation as a bastion of justice, peace and democracy in Africa. It is high time for us to confront these colonial laws and chart a new course for the future.

After 60 years of independence, it is imperative to reflect on the principles that inspired our struggle for freedom and independence. The continued use of colonial era laws to suppress citizen voices and dissent is a betrayal of the sacrifices made by our ancestors who sacrificed their lives for our independence. To honor their legacy and fulfill the promise of freedom, we must abolish these laws and embrace a legal framework that promotes justice, equality, and democracy.

Let us not allow the tools of our oppression to become the instruments of our governance. The time for legal reforms is now.

DRUNK MAN REPORTS HIMSELF TO POLICE FOR KILLING WIFE

DRUNK MAN REPORTS HIMSELF TO POLICE FOR KILLING WIFE, POLICE SAY

A 34-year-old man of Kitwe’s Mulenga Township has turned himself in to the police after allegedly murdering his wife during a fight.

The incident occurred on Wednesday between 11:00 hours and 22:15 hours, according to Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer, Peacewell Mweemba.

Mr Mweemba said on Tuesday around 21:00 hours, the deceased, identified as 31-year-old Agnes Daka, was seen drinking beer at home with her husband, Francis Mwaba.

He said shortly after, Daka left the house for an unknown destination but returned on Wednesday around 01:00 hours.

According to the couple’s landlord, Joseph Phiri, aged 50, Mr Mwaba confronted his wife about her whereabouts upon her return which led to an argument during which Daka reportedly insulted her husband.

“A fight ensued, and by 05:00 hours, the wife was heard crying as the husband was massaging her body. At 11:00 hours, the husband left home, and the deceased was not seen again. However, their three-year-old child was seen unattended, and a neighbor stepped in to care for the child,” Mr Mweemba said.

He said later that evening, around 22:00 hours, Mr Mwaba returned home in a drunken state, took his child, and went to the police station, where he reported his wife’s death.

Mr Mweemba said when police visited the scene of the crime, they found the deceased lying lifeless in a one-room apartment, her body facing upward and the walls of the room were stained with blood.

“Upon physical inspection, the deceased had visible multiple cuts on both legs, a swollen left hand, and a suspected fractured left leg. These injuries are believed to have been inflicted using an unknown object. The landlord informed the police that the couple had been fighting the previous night,” Mr Mweemba said.

He said the body has been taken to Kitwe Teaching Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Mr Mweemba said police have opened a murder docket and arrested Mr Mwaba, who remains in custody.

UPND DISCIPLINES TWO MEMBERS FOR MISINFORMATION

UPND DISCIPLINES TWO MEMBERS FOR MISINFORMATION

January 16, 2025

LUSAKA – The United Party for National Development (UPND) has taken disciplinary actions against two party officials, Kebby Sikangile, a Chisankane Ward councillor, and Frezer Monde, a member of the National Management Committee (NMC), for violations of party regulations.

The party has also issued a warning to members against using social media to attack party leaders or spread misinformation.

Mr Cornelius Mweetwa, UPND Party Chief Government Spokesperson, addressed journalists at a media briefing, emphasizing that discipline would be a central focus for the party as it prepares for the 2026 elections, marking the first electoral challenge for President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND since taking office in 2021.

“Discipline is the cornerstone of any successful team, and it is no different for us as a party in government,” Mweetwa stated. He underlined the importance of maintaining unity within the party, avoiding divisions, and ensuring that no individual or group undermines the party’s collective goals.

The expulsion of Mr Sikangile and Mr Monde followed allegations of misconduct.

Mr Monde, who serves as the Deputy Chairperson for Development, was accused of inciting unrest and advocating for political turmoil through social media.

Mr Mweetwa explained that Mr Monde’s actions violated party regulations, which prohibit such behavior.

“Mr Monde violated party regulations by engaging in public incitement through social media, contrary to UPND’s rules prohibiting such behavior,” Mr Mweetwa stated.

He noted that Monde was given an opportunity to present his case before the disciplinary committee but chose to abscond from the hearing. Consequently, the party proceeded with the disciplinary process, leading to his expulsion.

Similarly, Mr Sikangile, a councillor, came under scrutiny after making critical remarks about the government on social media. In a recorded audio, he described the government as “useless” and expressed regret for supporting it.

His comments were allegedly in response to the government’s demolition of illegal structures in a forest reserve, a matter in which mr Sikangile was reportedly financially involved.

Mr Mweetwa confirmed that Sikangile was given a chance to explain his actions but did not attend the hearing. “We ensured that he was given the chance to be heard. However, he elected to abscond, leading to the party proceeding with the disciplinary process in his absence,”

Mr Mweetwa stated. The NMC ultimately decided to expel him from the party, resulting in the loss of his position as a councillor.

In both cases, Mr Mweetwa emphasized that the party’s disciplinary committee had followed due process, ensuring that the individuals involved had an opportunity to be heard before any decisions were made.

“We ensured that they were given a fair opportunity to respond to the charges. However, they chose not to attend the hearings, which led to the disciplinary actions,” Mweetwa said. He added that the party’s disciplinary measures apply to all members, with no exceptions, and that such actions were necessary to uphold the integrity and values of the UPND.

Mr Mweetwa also cautioned UPND members and supporters against using social media to spread misinformation or engage in attacks on party leaders. He warned that such behavior undermines the party’s reputation and erodes public trust. “Social media must not be used to propagate false narratives. Passing on unverified information tarnishes the party’s image and undermines public trust,” Mweetwa said. He assured the public that the UPND had implemented measures to identify and hold accountable those responsible for spreading false information or attempting to discredit party officials.

He warned that internal divisions within the party could weaken its ability to deliver on its promises. “Our mission is to improve the lives of Zambians by addressing pressing issues. Internal discord only distracts us from this responsibility,” Mr Mweetwa concluded.

The UPND’s disciplinary actions and calls for unity signal the party’s commitment to ethical governance and its focus on presenting a unified front as it prepares for the 2026 elections.

Address Yango Drivers Slave conditions-CF Shishekanu

16th  January, 2025.

Citizens First Chair for Labour Ms. Monde Shishekanu has equated the deplorable conditions Yango drivers work under in Zambia as similar to those of “slavery” before it was abolished.

Ms Shishekanu has appealed to the President Hichilema government to address the ‘sad plight’ of the Yango drivers sooner rather than later in order to reduce the growing poverty they experience in Zambia.

“Recently our CF President hon. Harry Kalaba held a meeting with Yango drivers to figure out ways of addressing their sufferings and make a case to government but nothing has come out of it,” said Ms Shishekanu.

Yango, is an online taxi transport service like Uber in the Western world that hundreds of Zambian car owners subscribe to and pay huge franchise fees to.

It’s  Russian owners Yandex take in huge profits while Zambian drivers take home a pittance of as little as K1000 monthly after paying the owners huge licencing fees.

The CF chair for labour said the dangers Yango drivers face day and night at the hands of sophisticated armed robbers that often book them masquarading as ordinary clients cannot march the money they earn from their franchisee. Many drivers have been murdered on duty.

Yango Zambia, originally founded by Russia’s tech company Yandex is but one of the many foreign and local firms giving workers a “raw deal” in Zambia’s depressed UPND government economy said Ms Shishekanu.

An average family of five needs about k11,000 to live on basic food alone according to studies by JCTR yet Yango drivers get less than K1000 for all the risks said Shishekanu.

“Mr Hichilema must create much better and safe jobs to get our Yango drivers and many other Zambians out of poverty, said Ms Shishekanu.

The Alarming State of Police Partiality and Public Discontent in Zambia

The recent arrest of Honourable Binwell Mpundu, Member of Parliament for Nkana Constituency, on charges of seditious practices has reignited public concerns about police impartiality and the erosion of trust in the Zambia Police Service.

While upholding the rule of law and maintaining public order is essential, the conduct of the police raises pressing questions about fairness, justice, and their role as neutral enforcers of peace and security.

It is disheartening to observe how the Zambia Police Service an institution meant to serve and protect all citizens has been perceived as a political tool of the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND). Such perceptions of bias erode the credibility of the police, foster distrust, and deepen societal divisions.

When citizens feel that the law is applied selectively, it creates a dangerous precedent. This fuels tensions, prompting individuals and communities to seek alternative means to express grievances often outside the bounds of the law.

Honourable Mpundu’s controversial statements reflect the broader frustrations of many Zambians who feel neglected by the very institutions sworn to protect them. His call for self-defense is not a viable solution to Zambia’s challenges but rather a symptom of deeper systemic failures. At the heart of the matter lies the inability of the police to provide adequate security and address citizens’ concerns impartially.

It is a shame that an institution meant to embody neutrality and professionalism is increasingly viewed as prioritizing the interests of a select few over the greater good. This perception not only undermines democracy but also exacerbates public discontent, paving the way for potential unrest.

As a nation, Zambia must urgently address this growing issue before it spirals out of control. The UPND government has a responsibility to ensure that the Zambia Police Service operates independently and fairly, free from political interference. This is not merely a political matter it is a fundamental issue of national security and public trust. Zambians deserve a police service that is accountable to the law and committed to protecting all citizens equally.

The continued marginalization of dissenting voices and the selective enforcement of the law will only deepen societal divides. To restore faith in state institutions, the government must act decisively to promote transparency, accountability, and autonomy within the Zambia Police Service.

At this critical juncture, President Hakainde Hichilema and his administration must reconsider their approach. Suppression and intimidation are not sustainable solutions. Lasting peace and unity can only be achieved through justice, fairness, and a genuine commitment to serving the people.

The Zambia Police Service must transcend partisan politics and reclaim its role as a protector of all citizens, not just the ruling elite. Anything less would be a betrayal of its mandate and a threat to Zambia’s hard-earned democracy.

For the sake of peace, unity, and the future of our nation, President Hichilema must take a measured approach and allow state institutions to function autonomously.

Resorting to political intimidation through the police and judiciary amidst the challenges faced by ordinary Zambians is counterproductive and an affront to the people’s aspirations.

The vicious cycle of using law enforcement as a tool for political consolidation risks backfiring. The Zambia Police Service must rise above these tendencies and fulfill its duty to all Zambians. True progress will come not through division but through a shared commitment to justice, fairness, and national unity.

Mr. Clayson Hamasaka: Stop Using the Police as a Political Tool- Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

Mr. Clayson Hamasaka: Stop Using the Police as a Political Tool

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

It has come to public attention that  Mr. Clayson Hamasaka, State House Chief Communications Specialist, has been caught orchestrating the potential arrests of Patriotic Front (PF) Chairperson for Information and Publicity, Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba, and Citizen First President, Harry Kalaba. Their crime? Exercising their right to free speech by commenting on Zambia’s deteriorating human rights record — a situation that has already drawn international concern.

In a leaked conversation from a WhatsApp group titled “Friends of the President”, Hamasaka shamelessly directed UPND members to lodge official complaints against Ambassador Mwamba and President Kalaba with the Zambia Police. His instructions were chillingly strategic:

> “Use the Daily Nation and their Facebook posts, and we will facilitate the rest!”

He admitted that, as a State House operative, filing a complaint himself would appear as political harassment. Instead, he advised others to “demonstrate how you were alarmed.”

Hamasaka referenced the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act, implying that merely expressing dissent qualifies as a prosecutable offense.

Hypocrisy and Abuse of Power

Let’s be clear: Clayson Hamasaka has no moral ground to lecture anyone on ethics or the law. His behavior is emblematic of a regime that is increasingly intolerant of dissent. How long will Hamasaka and his ilk continue using the police to silence critics and push the UPND’s agenda? Zambia is not Hamasaka’s personal playground where he decides who should be prosecuted based on political convenience.

Moreover, Zambians have not forgotten the unresolved case involving the alleged abduction of Hon. JJ Banda, in which Hamasaka’s name, alongside those of Levy Ngoma and Trevor Mwiinde, was prominently mentioned. Despite the serious nature of this allegation, no meaningful investigation has taken place. Is it because Hamasaka wields undue influence over the police?

The Weaponization of the Cyber Crimes Act

Hamasaka’s reference to the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act reveals a dangerous precedent. Laws intended to protect citizens from genuine cyber threats are now being weaponized to stifle free speech. Suggesting that Kalaba’s deleted post can be resurrected by the Cyber Crimes Unit smacks of state surveillance tactics aimed at instilling fear.

A Final Warning

Mr. Clayson Hamasaka, take heed. Zambians are watching, and we will not forget. We will pursue justice, not only for Hon. JJ Banda but for every citizen whose rights are trampled under your direction. Zambia is a democracy — not your personal bedroom where you can dictate arrests at will.

GBM TAUGHT ME SOMETHING I WILL NEVER FORGET- Chilufya Tayal

EEP President Chilufya Tayali

·

GBM TAUGHT ME SOMETHING I WILL NEVER FORGET

Muyakulwisha (through persistence) somehow secured an appointment to meet GBM, through the wife (that’s why I love that woman). My appointment was at 10:00hrs and it was my first time be at a Minister’s office.

I was looking my best and I arrived a few minutes before the scheduled time. After going through the security checks and cleared by the secretary, I sat on the comfortable sofas near the entrance at Cabinet Office, waiting to be ushered to the third floor (if not 4th) where the Defense Minister’s office is.

I waited for almost two hours and I gave up. Feeling disgruntled I got into my Nissan Skyline V35 and drove off, like a big guy but without cash.
A few meters before I could reach Mandahill, GBM was on the phone;
“Where are you?!”, he asked in a angry voice.
“I have left”, I responded flatly.
“What kind of stupidity is this….” shouted the Defense Minister like is commanding armies at war. He actually said it in Bemba (kutumpa kwashani uko?).

GBM gave me a lecture of how he used to wait long hours at the same office when he was pushing to get a contract to supply beans for the army, during Kaunda days.

After a long lecture he asked me to come back and I made a U-turn at Mandahill.
We had lunch together in his office while we chatted like brothers. On my way out he gave me a K15,000.
My relationship with GBM and his wife (whom I called Bamulamu, sister-in-law) grew such that I became part of the household with a K3,000 monthly allowance.

I used to eat at GBM’s house like did many other politicians and businessmen. It was always Matebeto for free for whoever passed by during lunch.

GBM is a man that respected everyone in his way, because he would shout and insult you whenever he was agitated but his anger never lasted more than a breathe.

On GBM’s table, everyone was someone, because it didn’t matter how rich one was, we were all his guests. I met big people with money and ministers in the company of GBM like his equal.

Unfortunately politics came and separated us when he became the Vice President and I remained with Edgar Lungu.
Talk about me, bitting the finger that is feeding me🫣. I can be very stubborn on my formed decision and I think I need to consider how I handle some of these situations.

Nonetheless, GBM had a soft sport for me, such that, he still remained a brother, at one point, he asked me to meet him in Mukushi because he was on a campaign trail.

One thing I know is that, GBM is very loyal man, remember how he stood with Mwine-Lubemba when Sata was on him.
He is also very forgiving otherwise he would have banished me when I did support him to be PF President as a running mate to President Hichilema.

With the golden heart of GBM, I strongly believe that if he was the one who was President and HH is in prison, I can bet my last dollar, he would have pardoned him.
Forget his outburst, GBM is a very soft person man.

Anyway, you might be wondering why I am writing all this. I just want to appreciate GBM whilst he is still alive, because you just never know what happens tomorrow, especially that he has been sick.

I certainly learnt a lot from GBM and I am grateful. May God bless you Bakalamba and it’s sad that I can’t see you, but I am thinking of you.

ZAMBIAN YOUTHS CRY TO PRESIDENT HH

Hakainde Hichilema
Greetings Mr. President, and the people of Zambia,

I hope this message finds you well this evening. I would like to extend my apologies for addressing this issue on your platform, am really in pain. but I have no other means to reach the right people who can assist me or help us. I am not here for politics or to raise political concerns, but rather to seek help regarding a pressing matter within our community. I kindly ask for your understanding.

During one of your press briefings, Mr. President, you encouraged us, the youth, to form cooperatives and register companies to create employment opportunities instead of waiting solely for government jobs. I was Inspired by your advice, I joined a group of 40 individuals, and we worked hard to establish cooperatives and companies. However, as time went on, many members left the group when their expectations were not met because we all thought government will help us with projects unfortunately nothing happened, for that some left leaving only a few of us committed to the vision.

Eventually, only four of us remained, and we successfully registered two companies. We focused on plumbing construction and transportation and worked tirelessly to secure projects. Despite numerous challenges, including the loss of one of our team members who died due to a chronic illness, we persevered. Last year, our efforts began to pay off as we secured contracts from individuals in the transportation sector, providing employment for some youth based on our capacity.

However, a major issue arose with one of our clients. In October and November, we signed a monthly contract with an individual, who initially honored his payments despite some delays. Unfortunately, by December, he failed to pay us for services rendered under the agreed terms.

When we followed up, he dismissed our concerns, telling us to report the matter anywhere we wanted, as nothing could be done to him because it’s his time and the organization is into is influential.

We have tried to reason with him, but all efforts have been in vain. We even approached the police for assistance, but no action has been taken, possibly due to his influence.

Mr. President, and the people of Zambia or to whom it may concern, please we humbly ask for your help. As a small company striving to grow and create employment, this unpaid amount is significant to us. If there is anyone who can assist us in recovering the money we worked hard for, please reach out to us.

We believe in the promise of a better Zambia and hope that justice can prevail in this matter.

Thank you for taking the time to read our plea. Please inbox me for more and evidence regarding our engagement with this man please.

Sincerely,

RAE HAMOONGA SAYS HE HAS NOT IMPREGNATED TWO NEWLY RECRUITED OFFICERS

Lusaka, January 15, 2025 – I Rae Hamoonga wish to categorically refute the baseless and defamatory allegations being circulated on social media platforms, including a Facebook page under the name “TOP STORIES Hachishka Hakabepa.

“These false claims alleging misconduct by me Rae Hamoonga are not only unfounded but are also a blatant attempt to tarnish my reputation and that of the Zambia Police Service.

I strongly deny the accusations of impregnating two newly recruited female police officers in exchange for promotions, as well as claims of making illicit offers of K50,000=00 to silence individuals spreading these fabrications.

I further challenge them to produce these two newly recruited and impregnated female police officers as alleged.

As a law-abiding citizen and a senior officer entrusted with the mandate of upholding justice, I have taken appropriate legal measures to address these defamatory statements bordering on libel.

I have officially reported the matter to the police, and I am pursuing legal redress to ensure that those responsible for propagating these lies are held accountable before the courts of law.

unfulfilled promises will cost the UPND regime votes in future elections – Zawapa

0

Zawapa – Zambia wake-up Party Eastern Province Youth Chairperson Morris Banda has charged that unfulfilled promises will cost the UPND regime votes in future elections.

Mr. Banda said the New Dawn Government has kept on making promises without fulfilling them.

He said 2025 should have been a year for President Hakainde Hichilema and his government to point out achievements but there is nothing to show the people of Zambia.

Mr. Banda said during the past Ncwala ceremony the UPND Government promised to work on the Chadiza-Vubwi Road but nothing has been done on the dilapidated stretch.

“In Eastern Province I know the challenges people are going through. For example the Government in power promised us during Ncwala Ceremony last year that it will work on the Chadiza –Vubwi Road which has been in a bad state for many years  but up until now that not is not being worked on. We keep on receiving promises from this Government but nothing is being done. These people in Government have been telling people lie. Ba Hakainde Hichilema is this year supposed to be pointing at his achievements but he is busy jailing his friends. Talk about CDF, we just hear figures but we are not seeing tangible development. People are seeing and people are crying so this Government is not going anywhere. It is not winning. Talk about cash for work, this initiative has brought problems,” he said.

“Bedroom politicians being practiced by the UPND won’t take them anywhere because the people are seeing what is going on in our country. There is 99 days for the thief to steal and one day for the master and one day for Zambians will come. Even if they deceive themselves one day the people of Zambia will answer them.  Whether they like it or not the people of Zambia will change the Government and UPND will go. We are tired of being lied to by UPND,” Mr. Banda said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Banda has paid a courtesy visit to ZAWAPA President Howard Kunda at the party secretariat in Ndola.

He described ZAWAPA as a people’s party destined to liberate the people of Zambia provided they wake up and determine the nation’s destiny.

“Zambia Wake-Up Party is for the people of Zambia. As a leader in ZAWAPA I am here on the Copperbelt to engage our President Honourable Howard Kunda and the Secretary General on matters concerning our party. This is not a party for Honourable Kunda, ba Howard Kunda is leader for the party. It is like a bi-cycle with many parts but only one person can cycle. Howard Kunda is the voice of the party but the party is for the people of Zambia,” Mr. Banda said.

He concluded:”I’m a former PF youth leader in Eastern Province but I decided to join the people’s party ZAWAPA which was formed by the people of Zambia. I am in ZAWAPA to fight for the people’s cause. To all party members and supporters, let’s have confidence in our leader Honourable Howard Kunda and his leadership. Our President cannot work alone without us. It is up to us the people of Zambia to support our party President. Let’s wake up to have Zambia’s destiny in our hands. Let us work as one Zambia.”

AIPAC WELCOMES NEWS OF UN SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR ON HUMAN RIGHTS VISIT TO ZAMBIA

AIPAC WELCOMES NEWS OF UN SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR ON HUMAN RIGHTS VISIT TO ZAMBIA!

Lusaka, Zambia – January 16, 2025

The Acton Institute for Policy Analysis Centre (AIPAC) warmly welcomes the upcoming visit of the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights to Zambia, scheduled to take place on January 19, 2025. This visit presents an opportunity for the Rapporteur to engage with diverse stakeholders and gain a comprehensive understanding of the human rights situation in Zambia.

We appeal to the UN Special Rapporteur to ensure that their delegation meets with a broad range of stakeholders, including those who may not have been represented in the past. This includes community leaders, civil society organization’s, and representives of persons with disabilities  who have valuable insights into the human rights situation in Zambia.

In the past, we have noted that some stakeholders, particularly politicians, have been given undue prominence, resulting in a skewed perception of our country’s image. We urge the UN office in Zambia to ensure that all stakeholders are given an opportunity to present their reports on the human rights situation in Zambia and the improvements we have achieved as a country under President HH’s administration.

Notably, we have made significant strides in promoting human rights, including the removal of the death penalty and the defamation of the president clause from our constitution. However, we acknowledge that there have been instances of police abuse of power, and we urge the government to continue working on human rights reports, particularly in regards to the conduct of the Zambia Police especially abuse of seditius offences which are undemocratic and outdated and the urgent need to amend it because it may affect those enjoying the abuse of this law in the near future.

We also call upon politicians to refrain from making statements that may damage the country’s image or call for sanctions against the UPND administration. Such behavior can have far-reaching consequences and undermine the country’s reputation.

We look forward to the UN Special Rapporteur’s visit and hope that it will contribute to a better understanding of the human rights situation in Zambia. We are committed to promoting human rights and the rule of law in our country and believe that this visit will be an important step in that direction.

“DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?” FEMALE SOLDIER PUMPS UP TRAFFIC OFFICER IN DRAMATIC LUSAKA SHOWDOWN

“DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?” FEMALE SOLDIER PUMPS UP TRAFFIC OFFICER IN DRAMATIC LUSAKA SHOWDOWN

Lusaka’s streets turned into a dramatic battleground yesterday when a young female soldier, in full combat gear, faced off with a traffic officer in what can only be described as a Zambian-style showdown. It all started innocently enough— a traffic officer stopped her vehicle, politely asking her to park and make way for the presidential motorcade. Little did he know, the situation was about to escalate into a kwacha fight for survival against the dollar.

Eyewitnesses say the soldier stepped out of her car like she was about to command an entire brigade. The officer, perhaps underestimating the situation, repeated his request. That’s when things took a turn. “Do you know who I am?” she snapped, glaring at him like she was the boss of Lusaka. The officer, confused and unprepared, found himself caught in her crossfire. “It was like watching police in katete when they were handled by villagers!” one witness quipped, laughing as the scene unfolded.

As the officer tried to regain control, she unleashed a slap that could have sent a Power Tools Logistics bus into reverse. The sound of the slap echoed through the street, and people couldn’t stop laughing. “By the time she was done, the officer’s uniform looked like it had survived an accident ” said a bystander, barely able to hold back tears of laughter. “She didn’t just slap him, she rewrote his life in one go!”

Police enforcement arrived to arrest her

Once in police cells, the real Zambian drama unfolded. Military personnel aren’t allowed to sleep in combat gear, so her relatives rushed to the station with civilian clothes. “It was a dapp rush hour, but no one was allowed to see her out of uniform!” laughed another police officer. The soldier made sure everyone knew she was not just any ordinary citizen—she was a force to be reckoned with.

As the dust settled, the officer was left nursing his minor injuries and bruised ego.

“10 YEARS OF LIES LUSAKA WOMAN DEVASTATED AFTER DISCOVERING LOVER’S SECRET FAMILY OF 7”

“10 YEARS OF LIES LUSAKA WOMAN DEVASTATED AFTER DISCOVERING LOVER’S SECRET FAMILY OF 7”

In a shocking tale of heartbreak and betrayal, a Lusaka woman has shared how her decade-long relationship with a police officer came crashing down after she discovered he had fathered seven children with different women across Zambia. The truth, she says, came not from the man she loved but from a kind-hearted maid who could no longer bear to see her in the dark.

Speaking through tears, the woman revealed she started dating the officer at the end of Grade 9 and had spent the last 10 years believing she was the love of his life. “I used to spend weeks at his house, cleaning, cooking, and supporting him like a wife,” she said. “I thought I knew everything about him, but the reality was that I knew nothing.”

The shocking revelation began with whispers from the maid, who felt sorry for the unsuspecting woman. “The maid pulled me aside one day and said, ‘Mama, please, don’t hate me, but you need to know the truth. He has children. Lots of them.’ At first, I thought it was a lie because she was jealous of me. But the way she looked at me… I knew she was telling the truth,” she explained.

Determined to get answers, the woman confronted the man she thought she knew. “When I asked him, he just stared at me. At first, he denied it, but when I pushed harder, he broke down and admitted it. Seven children with different women! My knees gave way. For 10 years, I gave my life to him, and this is how he repaid me?”

The woman also shared how she had unknowingly visited towns where the officer’s children lived. “We traveled around Zambia, and I thought it was just us making memories. But those places weren’t just destinations—they were hiding his secrets. I even met some of the mothers of his children without knowing who they were. The man had mastered lying to me!”

Reflecting on her ordeal, the heartbroken woman praised the maid for her courage to speak up. “If it wasn’t for that maid, I would still be living in a bubble of lies. She’s the only one who cared enough to tell me the truth, unlike the man I trusted with my heart.”

GRANNIES OUTRUN A HIPPO, LEAVE YOUTHS IN THE DUST

GRANNIES OUTRUN A HIPPO, LEAVE YOUTHS IN THE DUST

What began as a peaceful interdenominational prayer session by the riverside in Samfya quickly turned into a scene straight out of an action comedy, when two elderly women outran a charging hippo in a race that has left the town talking.

The event was meant to unite Christians, but little did anyone know that the devil had other plans. Two old women, one from the United Church and another from the Adventists, decided to step away from the crowd to admire the river and reminisce about their long-lost Solwezi days. But while the grandmothers were busy marveling at the serene waters, a female hippo, clearly in no mood for visitors, emerged from the depths like a guardian of the Nile.

At first, the grannies froze, staring at the hippo like it was some misplaced sculpture. The hippo, on the other hand, made its intentions clear with a snort so loud it could have replaced the church’s microphone. Still, the two women stood their ground, perhaps thinking the hippo might just be passing by. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t.

When the massive animal started charging, it was as though heaven pressed the “fight or flight” button. Granny in blue was the first to respond, springing into action like she’d been training for this moment all her life. Her once-bent back suddenly became as straight as a choir conductor’s baton. Granny in red, not to be outdone, followed suit, and within seconds, the two were sprinting like contestants in the 100-meter finals.

Church members stood in disbelief and laughter but it was short-lived, though, as the hippo, undeterred by the humor, continued its charge, scattering the crowd like maize husks in a windy field.

Eventually, the hippo, perhaps impressed by the speed of its unexpected competitors, returned to the water, leaving the grannies victorious but breathless. Collapsing into the arms of their fellow congregants, they muttered prayers of thanks while the crowd alternated between laughter and singing “What a mighty God we serve.”

The event has left Samfya buzzing. While some are calling for the next interdenominational meeting to be held far from hippo territory, others can’t stop talking about the unexpected athletic prowess of the two women. “We need to send them to the next All Africa Games!” one resident quipped.

For now, the grannies have returned to their quiet lives, but their fame has spread across Samfya like a wildfire.

THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY OF CHELLAH TUKUTA FROM THE STREETS TO GLOBAL FAME

THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY OF CHELLAH TUKUTA FROM THE STREETS TO GLOBAL FAME

They say every successful person has a story, but the tale of Cornelius Chellah Tukuta Photography reads more like a blockbuster movie. From enduring the harsh realities of street life to becoming one of Zambia’s most celebrated photographers, Chellah’s journey is a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of passion.

Born in Chingola and the last-born to his mother, Chellah’s early life was marked by turmoil. His parents divorced before he was born, and his father left the family with nothing, forcing his mother to fend for him alone. Life took an even darker turn when Chellah’s uncle and aunt subjected him to relentless abuse, from denying him food to making him sleep in a chicken run. Yet, amidst this adversity, the young boy’s dream of getting an education refused to die.

Chellah’s quest for schooling was met with unimaginable obstacles. His aunt forced him to sell fritters instead of attending school. But the determined child found a clever workaround: he and a friend would alternate selling their goods so they could each sneak into class for two hours. By night, he studied in secret under dim light, a testament to his unyielding hunger for knowledge.

At one point, Chellah ended up on the streets, sleeping under bridges and surviving on scraps from trash bins. “I had to take jenkem with other street boys just to fit in,” he recalls. But even then, he clung to his dream of greatness. “I always told myself that I didn’t want to live that life forever.”

Through a series of miraculous turns, including the kindness of strangers and the support of the Catholic Church, Chellah was able to return to school. His talent for photography emerged early when he was tasked with taking pictures for his local parish. Those photos eventually made their way to Rome, hinting at the brilliance that would later define his career.

Chellah’s academic excellence earned him scholarships to study in Germany, France, and eventually the United States, where he pursued philosophy, psychology, and political science. While in the U.S., he was mentored by world-renowned photographer Scot Kelvin, an experience that solidified his passion for capturing the beauty of life through a lens.

Returning to Zambia in 2011, Chellah faced new challenges, including losing his photography equipment to theft. But he refused to give up. He rebuilt his career from scratch, eventually establishing Tukuta Productions, a company that has since gained international recognition. Today, Chellah has won multiple global awards, been featured in Forbes, and worked with some of the biggest names in fashion and entertainment.

Reflecting on his journey, Chellah says, “The power to succeed lies within a person. No one can dictate that you’ll be a failure. I chose to rise above my circumstances, and here I am.”

Now a proud husband and father of two, Chellah is dedicated to ensuring his daughters have the opportunities he once dreamed of. His story is a powerful reminder that no matter how difficult life may seem, with perseverance and faith, anything is possible.

Chellah Tukuta is not just a photographer; he’s a Zambian icon whose life proves that the darkest struggles can give birth to the brightest stars.

Zambia Police Service: Why Is Sedition Reserved Only for the Opposition? Justice for Hon. Binwell Mpundu

Zambia Police Service: Why Is Sedition Reserved Only for the Opposition? Justice for Hon. Binwell Mpundu

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

Once again, the Zambia Police Service has put on full display its mastery of selective justice, with the politically charged arrest of Hon. Binwell Mpundu, an independent Member of Parliament for Nkana. His supposed crime? Voicing an opinion that citizens should defend themselves if the police continue to fail in protecting them from violent UPND cadres. Sedition? Really? This brazen overreach reeks of a system weaponized against dissenters, raising serious questions about the police’s impartiality — or lack thereof — in Zambia.

The Dangerous Double Standards of Justice

While Hon. Mpundu is being dragged through the mud for speaking truth to power, UPND youths  from North-Western Province have hurled unthinkable threats at former President Edgar Lungu without consequence. Let us be clear: these were not mere words. They were direct incitements to violence — words that, in any functioning democracy, would result in immediate arrest and prosecution. Among the revolting threats made:

Warnings to Dr. Lungu to “watch his steps” and insults branding him “that idiot.”

Vile suggestions that he be taken to the North-Western Province for circumcision — a grotesque, degrading slur intended to humiliate.

Calls for violence, promising to teach him a lesson that would make him remember “the time his mother cried giving birth to him.”

Explicit threats of slaughter, with offers to kill him if he dared to challenge President Hichilema.

These were not offhand remarks. They were chilling, violent threats targeting a former head of state. Where was the Zambia Police Service then? Silent. Deaf. Blind. Yet here we are — charging Hon. Mpundu with sedition for daring to express frustration with the unchecked violence of UPND cadres.

Why Is Sedition Only for Opposition Voices?

Hon. Mpundu’s case exposes the rot at the core of our justice system. It is not about law and order; it is about political suppression. How many more times will we see opposition figures targeted with sedition charges while those aligned with the ruling party roam free, spewing violence and hate with impunity?

Consider these glaring questions:

Why is sedition a one-sided weapon, wielded only against those critical of the government?

What makes UPND cadres immune to the law while ordinary Zambians are thrown behind bars for far less?

Has Zambia’s justice system become a mere extension of the UPND’s political machinery, trampling dissent rather than protecting rights?

Justice Must Be Blind — Not a Political Tool

Selective justice is not just unfair; it is a direct assault on democracy. The Zambia Police Service must uphold the rule of law without fear or favor. If sedition applies to Hon. Mpundu for a legitimate call to action in defense of public safety, then why have the hate-filled, violence-promoting UPND cadres gone untouched? The law is clear — threats of violence and incitement are punishable. Enforce it equally or lose all credibility.

Justice for Hon. Binwell Mpundu is about more than one man. It is about whether Zambia will continue down the dangerous road of politically motivated persecution or reclaim the principles of fairness, equality, and impartiality.

We demand that the Zambia Police Service step back from its partisan bias, uphold the Constitution, and stop being complicit in the erosion of our democracy.

RESTORATION OF A PROFESSIONAL CIVIL SERVICE – Fred M’membe

RESTORATION OF A PROFESSIONAL CIVIL SERVICE

It is now abundantly clear that the Zambian Civil Service has ceased to be a politically neutral and professional institute. A professional civil service is there to deliver and implement government policy without engaging in politics.

A professional civil service is there to serve all Zambians irrespective of political, religious, racial, or any other affiliation of the citizens.

Where are we going as a country? Permanent Secretaries/Special Assistants to the President/police have now become the mouthpiece of UPND and not government. It is there for all to see. Thabo Kawana, as an example, is now the de-facto spokesperson of UPND. Levy Ngoma is now publicly on a campaign crusade in Petauke for UPND.

These people are paid from taxpayers’ contributions and not the UPND payroll. Yet, instead of focusing on explaining and executing government policies, they are busy executing UPND politics.

Where is Civil Society to arrest these abuses? Should we be rushing to the Constitutional Court to provide guidance on the professional conduct expected of civil servants on obvious matters that can be stopped by serious condemnation by the Civil Society groupings?

What will stop the next government employing cadres in the civil service with the precedent set by the UPND?

Can we even have faith in the Secretary to the Cabinet as being in charge of the Civil Service when his surbodinates are regularly issuing statement beyond their pay grade and actively participating in politics?

Do we have a civil service in Zambia worth calling a professional civil service?

It is now clear that the next government will have to purge a lot of civil servants once elected to restore professionalism.

It is also abundantly clear that the Secretary to the Cabinet has no control of his surbodinates as things stand.

Sorry, state of Affairs for Mother Zambia!

Choma man shot dead while asleep was killed by wife – Police

Choma man shot dead while asleep was killed by wife – Police

AN unbelievable story has unfolded in the Choma murder case where it was earlier reported that a man was shot dead while in bed with his wife.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1F3gGGgWii/?mibextid=oFDknk

It has now been revealed that the woman who once claimed to have been the innocent bystander to her husband’s death was, in fact, the one who orchestrated his killing.

48 year old John Muchindu was shot dead while asleep in his home on the night of January 6, 2025 in Choma’s Meeke Village.

His 39 year old wife, Lillian Muleya, initially told authorities that she had been asleep in bed with her husband when the fatal shot rang out and that she only discovered his lifeless body after hearing a loud gunshot.

But as investigations progressed, the truth began to unravel.

On January 14, 2025 which happens to be yesterday, Muleya was summoned for further questioning by police officers from Macha Police Post and Choma Central Police Station.

What began as a routine interview soon turned into a shocking revelation as the once innocent wife confessed that she had been the mastermind behind her husband’s murder after she hired a hitman from Kalomo to carry out the cold blooded crime.

She revealed that she believed that her husband had bewitched their daughter who had been suffering from a mysterious illness.

Driven by suspicions and fear for her daughter’s health, Muleya stated that she sought out Kagonkwa, a man from Chubo Village in Dundumwezi, Kalomo district and arranged for her husband’s execution.

She then promised the killer an ox in exchange for the murder.

On the night of the shooting, she made sure her husband was asleep before leaving the window open for the gunman.

Once the fatal shot was fired, the wife covered her husband’s body with a blanket and then pretended to be in shock when she called her son to the scene.

Southern Province deputy police commissioner Moono Namalongo said police are now on a manhunt for the hitman who remains at large.

Namalongo said authorities are also working to recover the weapon used in the crime.

Meanwhile, the wife of the deceased has been arrested and charged with murder as investigations continue.

“The Zambia Police Service appeals to anyone who has information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect and recovery of the firearm to report to the nearest police station,” said Namalongo.

PRESS STATEMENT REGARDING THABO KAWANA’S ATTACK ON CITIZENS FIRST PRESIDENT HARRY KALABA

PRESS STATEMENT REGARDING THABO KAWANA’S ATTACK ON CITIZENS FIRST PRESIDENT HARRY KALABA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LUSAKA , Jan 15 – The reaction by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Media Mr.Thabo Kawana to a statement made by the Citizens First President Mr. Harry Kalaba, cannot pass without comment.

First of all, it’s a matter of fact and public record that the United Nations Human Rights Watch body has previously raised concerns about the deteriorating human rights record under the UPND Government.

While the Daily Nation story may have been factually incorrect about sanctions, it doesn’t take away the fact that human rights abuse has become rampant in this administration.

Therefore, listening to Mr. Kawana, one can deduce that he is merely playing politics on a matter he is not competent to comment on. We would like to urge Mr. Kawana to refrain from making political running commentaries and concentrate on performing his duties as a civil servant.

It’s abundantly evident that by commenting on political matters, he is trying too hard to usurp the role and power of the Minister of Information and Media, Mr. Cornelius Mweetwa.

In case he doesn’t know or perhaps he has forgotten, Kawana’s role is to ensure he is promoting an enabling environment for both private and public media to thrive. He should ensure improved working conditions for media personnel at ZANIS, ZNBC, Times of Zambia and Zambia Daily Mail.

As Permanent Secretary, he should take keen interest in harmonizing policy gaps in the digital migration to ensure that the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) does not issue endless licences without taking into account the market size and capacity of TopStar to carry those licences.

But because he clearly doesn’t understand his role,  Kawana is in the forefront of defending corruption in the procurement of 156 ambulances at ZAMMSA, he did the same with the Ministry of Defense scandal involving a Kenyan supplier, he was also the one negotiating with Emmanuel Jay Banda, the list of his over reach is endless.

We can offer two explanations for Thabo Kawana’s desperation. Firstly, Kawana wants to get approval to stay in a job where he knows he is not qualified. Secondly, he has to prove his relevance because he knows he comes from MDC when UPND has more competent and qualified individuals who can perform better than him.

We urge Mr. Kawana to either concentrate on providing a service to the nation as a civil servant or he should consider resigning and meet us on the political field of play.

President Hichilema is supporting the Pope’s Campaign to cancel Debt- State House

President Hichilema is supporting the Pope’s Campaign to cancel Debt-State House

….”The President thanked Pope Francis for backing Zambia’s debt restructuring efforts and urged him to continue advocating for debt relief”….

State House has dismissed assertions that President Hakainde Hichilema has snubbed the campaign by the Vatican to cancel Zambia’s debt preferring to adhere to the G20 Debt mechanism that has rescheduled the country’s debt.

In the Statement issued by State House Chief Communications Specialist, Clayson Hamasaka shortly after President Hichilema met the Apostolic Nuncio to Zambia Archbishop Gian Luca Perici,stated that;

“The President also thanked Pope Francis for backing Zambia’s debt restructuring efforts and urged him to continue advocating for debt relief. “We want to focus on building our economy and creating jobs. We urge the Pope to continue his advocacy on debt relief.”

The Vatican has embarked on a jubilee campaign as done in the 2000s for rich nations and international creditors to cancel unsustainable debt owed by poor countries.

The Apostolic Nuncio to Zambia Archbishop Gian Luca Perici with hope, delivered a special christmas message to the Zambian President.

“Pope Francis is calling for global debt relief and changes to the international financial system to protect the poor and our planet.”

Zambia is among 160 countries struggling with unsustainable debt and Vatican wants her debt written off.

Historically, debt relief has been the most successful campaign of the Catholic Church.

The World Bank reported that developing country debt payments reached almost $1 trillion, double the amount they were a decade ago.

Pope Francis consistently appealed to forgive unpayable debts and create rules for addressing debt crises.

Similarly,Pope John Paul II encouraged debt forgiveness for poor countries during the Catholic Church’s Holy Year 2000.

This was adopted by both the World Bank and International Monetary Fund which culminated in an initiative called, Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Initiative.

Zambia benefitted from this when $7billion of her debt was canceled by 2008 when it reached all completion points.

Earlier there was reference to the response by President Hichilema that he “snubbed the proposal” and informed the Nuncio that Zambia was adhering to the G20 Framework on debt reschedule, where she has pushed her debt repayment to a future debt from 2032 to 2048.

But State House has clarified thst President Hichilema welcomed the initiative as dhow in the Statement issued shortly after the meeting.

The Catholic Church celebrates a Holy Year every 25 years, which is rooted in the ancient Jewish tradition of the Jubilee.

During the Jubilee, debts were forgiven and slaves were freed.

The Jubilee is a time to restore relationships with God, other people, and the land.

Debt forgiveness is a way to give people who are overwhelmed by debt a chance to start over.

As Pope Francis Opens Jubilee Doors, Francis Announces Church Campaigns in 160 Countries on Debt Cancellation to Address Poverty and Climate

December 24, 2024

Vatican City – On Christmas Eve and Christmas day, Pope Francis begins the Jubilee 2025 Year and opens 5 Jubilee Doors. In June with a special address and recently for the World Day of Peace message, Francis laid out the themes for the Jubilee Year as debt cancellation for developing countries and reforms to the international financial system, including a new international bankruptcy process for countries.

“Most countries are dealing with debt and financial crises,” noted Eric LeCompte the Executive Director of Jubilee USA Network, a United Nations finance expert and an advisor to the Vatican and Catholic Bishops on debt and economic issues.

“Pope Francis is calling for global debt relief and changes to the international financial system to protect the poor and our planet.”

This month, the World Bank reported that developing country debt payments reached almost $1 trillion, double the amount they were a decade ago.

Around the world, faith leaders and religious organizations of multiple denominations, together with development groups, plan to lift debt relief as the primary campaign objective in more than 160 countries.

“Historically, debt relief has been the most successful campaign of the Church,” shared LeCompte. “Debt relief and new processes to address poverty are essential for moving forward an economy that serves everyone.”

In Church documents and speeches leading up to the beginning of the Jubilee year, Pope Francis consistently appealed to forgive unpayable debts and create rules for addressing debt crises.

MAINA SOKO HOSPITAL PERFORMS RARE BRAIN SURGERY ON AWAKE PATIENT

MAINA SOKO HOSPITAL PERFORMS RARE BRAIN SURGERY ON AWAKE PATIENT

EVER thought someone could have a brain surgery while awake? Well, Lusaka’s Maina Soko Medical Centre has just made that a reality.

The military hospital has made history by successfully performing its first ever awake complex brain surgery called Craniotomy which is carried out while the patient remains awake and fully aware.

The patient who happens to be a 28 year old man had been diagnosed with a brain tumor that required precise removal to ensure his health and preserve vital brain functions.

According to a statement issued by Commanding Officer Colonel Peddy Mabuku, during the procedure, surgeons removed a small piece of the patient’s skull to access the tumor.

The 28 year old man stayed awake and responsive throughout the surgery, following instructions from the medical team.

The surgery which lasted for three  and 54 minutes was handled by a team of experienced surgeons and other medical staff.

The patient was asked to perform simple tasks during the operation, such as moving his hands and responding to questions.

The activities helped the surgeons monitor the brain’s critical functions in real time to ensure that no damage was done to areas controlling movement, speech or other vital abilities as revealed by the statement.

Maina Soko Medical Centre Commandant, Brigadier General Levy Muchemwa, praised the team’s efforts, calling the successful surgery a major milestone.

Brig Gen Muchemwa said the achievement shows the skill and dedication of the medical professionals at the Centre.

He said it also demonstrated the centre’s commitment to offering advanced healthcare services in Zambia.

Politics in Eastern Province: What’s Really Happening?

Politics in Eastern Province: What’s Really Happening?

By Chishala Chilufya (Political and Social Analyst)

Last week, something unexpected happened in Zambian politics. Several MPs from the Patriotic Front (PF), along with some independent MPs from Eastern Province, publicly endorsed the UPND candidate, Mr. Severian Lungu, for the Petauke Central by-election. This has left many people wondering: what’s really going on, and how did this by-election come about?

The Petauke by-election wasn’t just a normal event. It seems to have been triggered by bitterness, hate, and political revenge from the ruling government. These actions are not only unconstitutional but also go against the Christian values Zambia upholds.

Many of the MPs now supporting UPND’s Mr. Lungu were once strong allies of Hon. Emmanuel Jay Jay Banda. What has changed? Is it fear, betrayal, or something else?

It’s also worth noting that some of these MPs were once so loyal to former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu that they named their children after him. Yet today, they are openly criticizing him the same person they once praised and relied on for their political success. This shift reflects a bigger problem in our political system: a lack of loyalty and principles.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen such disloyalty in Zambian politics. In the 2011 elections, some PF MPs from Luapula Province endorsed the MMD and the late President Rupiah Banda. Some even stood on the MMD ticket, but none of them won, and they eventually disappeared from politics altogether.

For instance, during the 2011 elections, Eastern Province had about 700,000 registered voters, yet only 220,000 of them voted for Rupiah Banda. The election was lost by 115,000 votes, meaning the people who “betrayed” him were from his own region.

Fast forward to 2021, Eastern Province was the third-largest in terms of voter registration. Yet, the difference in votes between President Edgar Lungu and President Hakainde Hichilema was just 32,000 votes.

In contrast, the UPND MPs have shown what true loyalty looks like. Even during the toughest times like when President Hakainde Hichilema was in prison not one of them switched sides or supported the PF government. Leaders like Hon. Garry Nkombo, Hon. Jack Mwiimbu, and Hon. Cornelius Mweetwa remained committed to their party and its vision. Today, they are ministers in government, reaping the rewards of their steadfastness.

On the other hand, the PF has been in opposition for just three years, and already the cracks are showing. The question is, where is the loyalty?

Southern Province sets an example for the rest of the country. The people there demonstrate unity, focus, and discipline. They: 1. Support each other. 2. Stick to their goals. 3. Don’t betray one another. 4. Work hard and remain patient. 5. Value self-sustainability over dependency.

In Southern Province, you won’t find people lining up for K50 or K100 because they believe in self-reliance. This strength and unity are why they continue to thrive politically, while other provinces struggle.

Eastern Province, unfortunately, has a history of division. Twice, the Presidency has been lost there because the people couldn’t come together.  The province remains divided, making it easy for others to manipulate them.

Now, we see MPs endorsing UPND candidates while turning their backs on the parties and leaders who helped them rise to power. Is this opportunism? Betrayal? Or something else entirely? It’s up to Zambians to judge.

The situation in Eastern Province should be a wake up call for everyone: when you pour hot water on someone, be careful it might splash back on you. This is a time for the people and leaders of Eastern Province to reflect, come together, and prioritize unity over division. Without unity, meaningful progress will remain out of reach.

I rest my case.

Why Zambia Should Prioritize Debt Cancellation Through the Vatican’s 25-Year Jubilee Program Over the G20 Debt Restructuring Initiative

Why Zambia Should Prioritize Debt Cancellation Through the Vatican’s 25-Year Jubilee Program Over the G20 Debt Restructuring Initiative

Zambia faces a crippling debt crisis that has constrained its economic growth and limited its ability to invest in essential sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure. In this context, the country stands at a crossroads, needing to choose between pursuing debt cancellation under the Vatican’s 25-Year Jubilee Program or opting for the G20 Debt Restructuring Program. While both options offer pathways to financial relief, Zambia would benefit more from the Vatican’s program, which aligns with the nation’s long-term socioeconomic goals and ethical principles.

1. Debt Cancellation vs. Debt Restructuring

Debt cancellation, as offered by the Vatican’s Jubilee Program, eliminates the repayment obligation entirely, freeing Zambia from the financial and administrative burden of managing a ballooning debt portfolio. On the other hand, the G20 Debt Restructuring Program modifies repayment terms, such as extending timelines or lowering interest rates, but it does not absolve Zambia of its debt. This distinction is critical, as debt restructuring only delays the problem, whereas debt cancellation resolves it permanently.

2. Long-Term Economic Freedom

The Vatican’s Jubilee Program is rooted in the Biblical principle of forgiving debts every 25 years, a practice designed to reset economic imbalances and provide a fresh start. For Zambia, this would mean a chance to reset its economic priorities without the pressure of servicing debt. With freed-up resources, the government could invest in poverty reduction, job creation, and sustainable development.

In contrast, the G20 program’s restructuring terms often come with stringent conditions, such as austerity measures and cuts to public spending. These requirements can stifle economic growth and worsen social inequality, as funds are diverted from critical areas to meet debt obligations.

3. Ethical and Moral Alignment

The Vatican’s Jubilee Program promotes global justice and fairness by addressing the systemic inequities that trap low-income countries like Zambia in cycles of debt. It acknowledges the historical imbalances in global lending practices, including exploitative interest rates and loans tied to unfair conditions.

The G20 program, while helpful in some cases, primarily serves the interests of creditors. Its emphasis on ensuring repayment often ignores the socioeconomic realities faced by debtor nations. Zambia’s participation in the Jubilee Program would demonstrate its commitment to ethical global partnerships and economic justice.

4. Avoiding the Debt Trap

Restructuring under the G20 often leads to a phenomenon known as the “debt trap.” While repayment terms may be eased, the underlying debt remains and continues to accumulate interest. This creates a vicious cycle where countries like Zambia must seek further loans to meet existing obligations.

Debt cancellation under the Vatican’s program provides a clean slate, breaking this cycle and allowing Zambia to pursue a more sustainable fiscal path. It would enable the country to focus on revenue generation, diversification of the economy, and building resilience against future financial shocks.

5. Strengthening Zambia’s Social Fabric

Debt cancellation aligns with Zambia’s values of solidarity and social welfare. The resources saved from debt servicing could be directed toward improving healthcare, education, and infrastructure—areas that directly impact the well-being of citizens. This approach fosters national unity and ensures that the benefits of economic recovery are felt by the majority, rather than being concentrated among the elite.

The G20’s restructuring program, by contrast, risks perpetuating inequality. Austerity measures often result in reduced public spending, disproportionately affecting the poorest and most vulnerable segments of society.

6. Global Support and Solidarity

The Vatican’s Jubilee Program has the backing of faith-based organizations, human rights advocates, and global justice movements. Partnering with the Vatican would position Zambia as a leader in the call for equitable global economic systems, attracting goodwill and support from international donors and NGOs.

While the G20 program has institutional backing, its creditor-focused approach has drawn criticism for prioritizing financial institutions over the welfare of people.

Conclusion

Zambia’s debt crisis requires a solution that prioritizes the needs of its people, promotes long-term economic stability, and addresses the injustices inherent in global lending practices. The Vatican’s 25-Year Jubilee Program offers debt cancellation—a path to true economic freedom, ethical realignment, and social investment.

In contrast, the G20 Debt Restructuring Program merely prolongs the debt burden, tying Zambia to policies that limit its growth potential. By choosing the Jubilee Program, Zambia can seize the opportunity to redefine its economic future, ensuring a prosperous and equitable path forward for its citizens.

The time for bold decisions is now. Debt cancellation, not restructuring, is the key to unlocking Zambia’s full potential.

BY ELECTIONS UNDER UPND HAVE BECOME EXTREMELY VIOLENT .

Let the people talk.

It was clear dishonest for President Hakainde Hichilema to claim that by elections under the UPND administration have been violence Free.
Zambians are Aware of the chaos and mayhem the UPND cadres caused in Kawambwa.

Zambia has experienced unprecedented political violence under President Hakainde Hichilema than at any other time.
it will not do for the state to continue to gag Free expression of citizens, especially those who are outspoken,or want to express opinion on matters deemed to be in public interest.

Allow people to speak out so that you as leaders get the chance to improve.
So sad to see how governance institutions have been weaponised to disadvantage and penalize those from the opposition political parties.

Unfortunately under the UPND government impunity has become synonymous with the rule of law thereby eroding public trust.

On threats to deregister PF by PS Akafumba.
All we can say to Akafumba is Sir please learn to grow up,stop playing petty Politics .

What’s the desperation?
Deregister PF and Collapse government.
Zambia will be forced to go for early elections should the Registrar of Societies proceed to deregister the Patriotic Front, the largest opposition Political because Parliament will have to dissolve itself with only the UPND members in the house.

Patriotic Front is not going to die, Pf will continue to serve Zambians by providing Checks and balances to the UPND .
Deregistration of the PF as the largest opposition political party has the Potential to Collapse the government as Parliament would have to dissolve itself for lack of quorum .

The UPND government should be Careful in how it was going to manage the deregistration of the PF because all the Members of Parliament for the former ruling party would immediately cease to be lawmakers

There would be no Parliament should the PF be deregistered because all the Members of Parliament who were Sponsored by the opposition PF will have to vacate the House which would then compel President Hakainde Hichilema to call for fresh elections

Zambia would then be plunged into a Constitution crisis should the Registrar of Societies go ahead to deregister the country s biggest opposition political party.

There is need for Registrar of Societies to undergo reforms so that it did not have to be used to punishing perceived Political Opponents
Allow pf to coexist, fight hunger and poverty deregistering pf will not reduce the price of Mealie Meal and fuel.

CONCOURT TO RULE ON JAN. 20 ON PETAUKE CENTRAL BY-ELECTION

CONCOURT TO RULE ON JAN. 20 ON PETAUKE CENTRAL BY-ELECTION

THE Constitutional Court has this morning reserved its decision on whether to restrain the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) from conducting the Petauke Central by-election, with the ruling set for January 20.

The application for an order was filed by Isaac Mwanza, Executive Director of the Zambian Civil Liberties Union (ZCLU), who is challenging the constitutionality of the actions by the National Assembly to determine a vacancy that has triggered a by-election

Mr. Mwanza argues that the National Assembly of Zambia violated and contravened the Constitution by declaring a vacancy in the office of a Member of Parliament for breach of a code of conduct – an action he contends is the exclusive role of the judiciary and tribunals appointed by the Chief Justice.

During the hearing, Mr. Mwanza urged the Court to issue conservatory orders to restrain ECZ from conducting the by-election and argued that such orders are necessary to protect the Court’s jurisdiction to adjudicate on the alleged unconstitutional actions of the National Assembly.

But in response, ECZ argued that in the recent Belemu case, the Constitutional Court guided that ECZ is under an obligation to conduct the by-election within 90 days of receiving notice from the Speaker of the National Assembly regardless and irrespective of any legal challenges.

The ECZ cited a Supreme Court judgment where it was stated that a person can not be prevented from fulfilling its statutory obligations by estoppel.

The ECZ also relied on the recent Constitutional Court judgment in the Michelo Chizombe case, which established that court decisions remain binding unless overturned or expired.

Mr. Mwanza countered by clarifying that his petition does not aim to prevent the ECZ from performing its statutory duties generally but is seeking an order to restrain the ECZ from conducting a by-election arising from a purported vacancy that is unconstitutional and unlawful.

He said the principle of no estoppel against statute is often invoked when a party attempts to prevent a statutory body from exercising its statutory functions by relying on prior representations or conduct but that the Applicant is not relying on any representations or past conduct of the Commission.

He also distinguished the current case before the Court from the Belemu case by arguing that a vacancy in the Belemu case had resulted from a criminal conviction and sentencing by a court while in the present case, no valid vacancy exists and the Speaker’s actions contravene the Constitution.

AND both the Attorney General and the National Assembly argued that Mr. Mwanza should have first addressed his concerns with a parliamentary committee rather than petitioning the court.

They also contended that the Court can not issue an injunction to stop an election.

In his rebuttal, Mr. Mwanza dismissed these arguments, stating that there is no legal requirement for a person to go to a parliamentary committee in matters of constitutional breaches by the National Assembly.

He also emphasised that he is seeking a conservatory order, which is a constitutional remedy and different from an injunction.

POLICE ARREST LUSAKA WOMAN AND FAMILY AFTER DISCOVERY OF HER HUSBAND’S REMAINS IN HER HOUSE

January 14, 2025-The Zambia Police Service through Garden Police Post is investigating a shocking case of murder reported today, January 14, 2025, at approximately 16:30 hours.

The report was lodged by Mr. Emmanuel Kalaba, aged 55, of House Number 1295 Chelstone Extension, who informed the police that his young brother’s wife, Mrs. Sylvia Mutoba Kalaba, had consistently refused him and other family members access to his younger brother, Mr. George Kalaba, on multiple occasions between July 2023 and January 2025.

According to Mr. Kalaba, his concerns escalated when he visited the residence at approximately 06:00 hours this morning. Upon arrival, he found the house locked, with Mrs. Sylvia Kalaba and her children inside. He further interviewed the one of tenants, who revealed that he had not seen Mr. George Kalaba for the past two years and that Mrs. Sylvia Kalaba had been preventing anyone from visiting him.

Acting on this report, police officers rushed to the scene. Upon gaining entry, they made a gruesome discovery: the remains of Mr. George Kalaba were found lying on a bed, reduced to a skeleton, suggesting he had been dead for a significant period.

Mrs. Sylvia Kalaba, aged 51, and her children, identified as Natasha Kalaba (19), Sandra Kalaba (22), Wendi Kalaba (27), and a female juvenile (15), were found inside the house and had locked themselves in. They have since been apprehended and are in custody to assist with investigations.

The skeletal remains of Mr. George Kalaba have been collected and deposited at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Mortuary, where a postmortem will be conducted tomorrow, January 15, 2025, to ascertain the cause of death.

“MY WIFE HAS A ZEBRA BELLY, AND IT’S NOT MY FAULT!” – LUSAKA MAN SPARKS COURTROOM CHAOS

“MY WIFE HAS A ZEBRA BELLY, AND IT’S NOT MY FAULT!” – LUSAKA MAN SPARKS COURTROOM CHAOS

In what can only be described as a mix of courtroom drama and stand-up comedy, a 54-year-old man shocked everyone yesterday when he gave kabwata-level testimony about his marriage struggles. The man, who might soon need witness protection from his wife, blamed her aging body and his “biological programming” for his wandering eyes.

“My Lord, I’m a victim here,” he began, adjusting his tie like a man about to plead for his life. “I look at my wife in bed, and I feel like I’m sleeping next to my fellow man!” Gasps filled the room, followed by stifled laughter when he added, “Her chest is like bathroom slippers, and her belly looks like a zebra!”

The judge, trying hard to suppress a smile, asked, “So you’re saying motherhood and time have ‘ruined’ her beauty? Is that your excuse?” Before he could respond, murmurs of “Awe sure!” and “Yaba!” spread through the courtroom.

“Where is the beautiful woman I married 18 years ago? This one here… eh, my Lord, I can’t!” he declared, dramatically shaking his head like a man forced to eat nshima without relish. The women in the gallery exchanged looks that screamed, “This man needs deliverance!”

But he wasn’t done. “It’s not my fault. All men are born with this virus of ch-tng! It’s in our blood!” he exclaimed, pounding his chest for effect. The courtroom erupted with laughter, and one woman shouted from the back, “Boss, if it’s a virus, then you need a vaccine called manners!”

Another lady, clearly unimpressed, added, “Before you talk about bathroom slippers, show us your six-pack. Oh, sorry, I meant your one-pack!” The man looked flustered, but he stuck to his argument, claiming women should “accept us as we are because that’s how God made us.”

The judge, barely able to keep a straight face, delivered a lesson: “Marriage is not about six-packs or zebra-free bellies. It’s about love, respect, and appreciating the sacrifices your partner makes.” He added, “And sir, maybe look in the mirror before calling someone ‘rusty.’ You’re not exactly shiny yourself!”

As the court adjourned, women outside were heard saying, “Zebra belly? That’s called stripes of motherhood—he should kneel down and thank her!” One man whispered, “Eh, this guy has ended his marriage today. Someone call the fire brigade for his house tonight!”

The case might not have had a legal ruling, but it left the nation with one undeniable fact: Zambian humor, like love, knows no bounds!

Dandy Krazy’s daughter and I have a child, confirms Triple M

Dandy Krazy’s daughter and I have a child, confirms Triple M

TRIPLE M, real name, Misheck Musonda has confirmed social media reports of having a child with late celebrated artiste Dandy Krazy’s daughter, Comfort Chibambo.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/13ydtUVehy/?mibextid=oFDknk

The artiste confirmed this on the Zed Podcast, and after the interview was posted, Triple M later revealed on his socials that he will be releasing a song titled Mwana Wanga (my child) this morning.

In the interview, Triple M disclosed that he has a five month old daughter with Comfort stating that he had taken full responsibility for the child contrary to social media rumours.

Barely a day after Dandy Krazy’s burial, social media went awash with reports that Triple M had impregnated the late musician’s daughter whom some people alleged that it even affected her education as she dropped out of university.

But Triple M has dismissed some social media reports suggesting that the daughter of the legend had dropped out of school because of him.

He mentioned that the two have been together for years and Comfort is old enough to make her own decisions.

“I won’t put that as a rumour, she’s not pregnant. Me and her have a child. We have had a child for a long time. Our baby is five months now. We have a baby girl,” stated the young artiste.

“I’m not too young to have a child and I can’t deny a child. Comfort is big and she has her own life.”

He further questioned what was wrong with him having a child with the girl he had been seeing for quite a long time.

Triple M added that people should understand that love doesn’t choose whom to fall in love with stating that love is a feeling that just happens which one cannot control.

“If that’s my girl, we have been dating for years. What’s wrong about me impregnating her and I keep the child? I’m supporting the child and she’s a blessing to us. Do you know how old Comfort is? What’s wrong about King Dandy having a granddaughter?” Wondered the artiste.

Triple M further stated that just because his fans didn’t know about his child and relationship doesn’t mean he didn’t want them to know.

“This should be the last time people will be hearing about my personal life because I don’t like people getting into my personal life despite being a public figure I also have family, personal issues. I’m not too young to have a child and I can’t deny a child. She’s big and she has her own life.”

“I want people to have a sense of humanity in them, this person just lost her father, how do you talk about such,” said Triple M.

He added that some people on social media are lacking wisdom despite being educated.

Professional Associations Becoming Closed Shops, Hindering Innovations and Business

Professional Associations Becoming Closed Shops, Hindering Innovations and Business

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba wrote;

The legislation of professional association and bodies, designed to recognise proffesionals and bring regulation to an industry, while welcome, seems to have brought unwanted outcome, degenerated into the outlawing of their businness against the informal sector.

Recently the Zambia Institute of Estate Agents (ZIEA) the only governing body that certifies real estate agents in Zambia, using the clauses in the law, rounded up and locked unregistered and informal estate agents.

Upto 40 persons had their offices raided by armed police officers paid by ZIEA, were locked up and they were treated like criminals and armed robberers. The industry seems to have been taken up by poweful foreign estate agent companies taking away business from the small and informal agent that has always thrived. This is not to excuse the fraudulent activities that invaded the space.

And now we have a case of two entrepreneurs, Dr. Brenda Bukowa and Dr. Sam Sichilalu, who set up a construction company, Builders Village, to build homes, and employed professional architects, bricklayers, builders, roofers, and workers to deliver on this business goal.⁶⁶

The Zambia Institute of Architects ( ZIA), immediately clamped down on the company and began to prosecute it that it was doing illegal business.

This is the third case ive heard. There is a famous Lusaka “architect”, who delivers on some of the most beautiful designs of homes in Lusaka. He has done and constructed houses as a business his whole life but he is not a professional architect. It seem their law has refused to recognise such persons and ZIA has been hunting him down.

I guess all the Zulus, Jeres and Lungus building those houses in townships will be next!

This is one of the reasons that journalists and media personnel, have resisted for years, to establish a legislated regulatory body, fearing that it will be used to clamp down on freedom of expression and freedom of the press.

They have sought, as is in many countries, a self-regulation mechanism that is NOT state driven or legislated.

I recently saw a similar debate that Government broke the law when it employed new public relations officers, who, apparently, were not members of the Zambia Institute of Public Relations and Communication.

So while the Law Association of Zambia is a shining example of legislsted ptofessional association and regulatory body for professionals, ZIEA and ZIA, appear to be bad examples of professional associations, using their legislated position, to close out of the market, innovations and business initiatives, and fail to embrace the informal sector.

I noticed in South Africa, that law firms, hospitals, newspapers and television stations are owned NOT by the particular professionals, but by business entities!

They are run as businesses, employing professionals in those particular business, hence they thrive, they succeed or fail as businesses!

Time to rethink the approach of professional associations!
