Why the highest-paid receiver in NFL history doesn’t want to live in a luxury mansion

Despite being the highest-paid receiver in NFL history, Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson avoids unnecessary real estate expenses. The ongoing Netflix series “Receiver” revealed that during its 2023 production, Jefferson lived in a modest Minneapolis-area townhouse.

Jefferson has since signed a four-year, $140 million deal, earning $35 million annually, according to Daily Mail. Surprisingly, the 25-year-old told reporters at training camp this week that he’s in no rush to splurge on a new estate.

“I’m one person, I ain’t got no big family,” said Jefferson, who is the father of a baby girl. “I don’t need to be in no $10 million mansion, that’s not something I came from.

“I grew up with parents that were grateful for what they had, and I was grateful for what I grew up with,” Jefferson continued. “I never grew up having no big old house, maybe I’ll move onto that, maybe not. I guess we’ll find out sooner or later.”

Jefferson, who grew up in Louisiana and starred for LSU’s football team, is prominently featured in the NFL Films project “Receiver.” The series, which follows five pass catchers over the 2023 season, also includes appearances by his parents, John and Elaine Jefferson.

The show showcases Jefferson, along with Las Vegas Raiders receiver Davante Adams, San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle, his teammate Deebo Samuel, and Detroit Lions star Amon-Ra St. Brown.

The new series, “Receiver,” is a sequel to NFL Films’ “Quarterback,” which provided a behind-the-scenes look at players like Patrick Mahomes II. According to Jefferson, the best part of “Receiver” is the trash talk captured while he was mic’d up during games.

“I feel like everybody’s favorite clip is the Detroit game when I was talking a little smack and just playing my ball,” Jefferson said, as quoted by Minneapolis’ Fox 9. “Just for people to see the inside, really behind the scenes of how we talk in game-like situations, the emotions and competitive spirit, people actually got to see that.”

Jefferson, the 22nd pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, has been a standout for the Vikings, averaging 98.3 receiving yards per game—the best in NFL history.

A three-time Pro Bowl selection and the 2022 Offensive Player of the Year, Jefferson missed seven games due to injury last season.

The Vikings are now replacing quarterback Kirk Cousins with free agent Sam Darnold and rookie JJ McCarthy.

Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King respond to rumors about being lovers

Best friends Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King are inseparable. The pair first met about 50 years ago while Winfrey was working at a Baltimore TV station as a news anchor and King as a production assistant.

Their friendship has since blossomed and survived the horrors of the industry including spats, scandals, and rumors such as the pair being romantically involved. The pair addressed that rumor during a recent interview with Melinda French Gates for her Moments That Make Us series, FOX 11 reported.

“For years, people used to say we were gay,” Winfrey, 70, said. “We were up against that for forever.” King, 69, also revealed that the speculation about her and the billionaire media mogul being romantically involved still exists.

“I used to say, ‘You got to do a show on this,’” King said about what she previously told Winfrey. “Because it’s hard enough for me to get a date on Saturday night with people thinking we’re gay.”

“If we were gay, we would tell you,” King added. Winfrey also spoke about what she thinks has made their friendship work and stand the test of time.

“Maybe people aren’t accustomed to seeing women with this kind of truth bond,” Winfrey said. “Meaning, the reason why I think our friendship has worked is because Gayle is happier, not happy, but happier for me for any kind of success or victory or challenge I get to, than I am for myself.”

The pair’s interview with Gates comes after Winfrey was hospitalized with a stomach virus in June, causing her to miss a scheduled appearance on CBS Mornings to announce her latest book club selection, Face2Face Africa reported.

King explained her absence during the broadcast. “She had some kind of stomach thing — stomach flu — stuff was coming out of both ends,” she said. “I won’t get too graphic. Needless to say, she ended up in the hospital, dehydration, had to get an IV.”

“It was a very serious thing,” she added, noting that Winfrey tried to “rally” but needed to rest. “She will be okay. I hope she’s not mad at me for sharing that detail,” King said of her longtime friend. “But I wanted to make it clear, though, that it mattered to her and that it really bothered her that she couldn’t be here for you today.”

Chris Brown sued for $15M as he lands in another controversy after Texas show

Chris Brown is already facing a $50 million lawsuit that was filed by four men who accused the singer and his associates of assaulting them at his show in Fort Worth, Texas, on Friday, July 19. His legal woes have further mounted after he was recently hit with an additional $15 million lawsuit over the alleged assault that occurred at that same show.

The $50 million lawsuit was filed by Larry Parker, Joseph Lewis, Charles Bush, and Damarcus Powell. The four men allege in the complaint that Brown and his entourage “brutally and severely beat” them after his July 19 show at the Dickies Arena. The alleged assault is said to have happened backstage and did not stem from any provocation.

On the other hand, the additional $15 million lawsuit was filed by Frederick R. Overpeck. The plaintiff, per PEOPLE, is a staff member and head of back security at Dickies Arena. Besides Brown, the other defendants named in Overpeck’s lawsuit are Conway, Hood Boss (a.k.a. Omololu Omari Akinlolu), and Sinko Ceej. Those individuals were said to be part of Brown’s entourage and are also named as defendants in the $50 million lawsuit. Brown’s 11:11 Tour promoter Live Nation is also named as a defendant in both lawsuits.

The new lawsuit claims that Overpeck – a former correctional officer – is currently unable to work because he sustained severe injuries during his attempt to protect the four men from being assaulted by the defendants.

Overpeck in the the lawsuit claims that Brown was the brain behind the violence, adding that the Heat singer even threw the first punch. “The Plaintiff attempted to intervene to stop the violence,” the suit claims. “Plaintiff was instead thrown out of the way, while at the same time Brown yelled racial slurs demanding that his entourage join in and beat the four fans.”

Overpeck also alleges that during the alleged assault, Parker was surrounded in a stairwell and he attempted to defend him, PEOPLE reported. The plaintiff said he “got himself in between the victim Parker and most of the attackers.”

“Unfortunately, the attackers, to include Brown, did not stop the violence,” the complaint alleges. “They instead continued to kick and stomp victim Parker, and in the process repeatedly kicked Plaintiff as well, severely injuring him.”

Overpeck in the complaint likened the alleged assault to a “prison yard beat down” and claimed he “narrowly escaped.” The suit further claims that Overpeck’s intervention “likely prevented” the four men from sustaining “further injury” or even dying.

The plaintiff said he suffered a cracked vertebrae in his neck that requires medical attention. He said he cannot work as a result.

WE WILL RULE FOR A WHILE, JUST GET USED TO US, WE CAN’T LOSE ANY ELECTION – UPND

WE WILL RULE FOR A WHILE, JUST GET USED TO US, WE CAN’T LOSE ANY ELECTION – UPND

ZAMBIANS should just get used to THE United Party for National Development (UPND) for now as it is going to rule the country for a while, party youth Chaiperson Gilbert Liswaniso has asserted.

Appearing on Diamond TV, Liswaniso said despite all the challenges being experienced in the country, the ruling party cannot lose elections to any opposition party stating that opposition parties are still organising themselves while the UPND is mobilising its people.

Liswaniso challenged former president Edgar Lungu to contest the 2026 general elections to prove to him that the ruling party can still wire him.

“We are committed to solving the problems that our country is facing. All the challenges we are facing are there to open our minds. If people criticise us, it means they love us. So we are still here for a while just get used to us,” said Liswaniso.

“Edgar Lungu can come, we will wire him, we are not sleeping, people love President Hakainde Hichilema that’s why they are talking. You think it’s a joke for President Hichilema to be in opposition for 15 years and lose an election within five years? We are trying our best to deliver.”

He further stated that what may seem nothing to people in the urban areas is worth something appreciating noting that President Hichilema is appreciated in the rural parts of the country.

The youth leader added that Zambians must be reminded that the ruling party has been winning by-elections around the country referring to the recent ones where UPND won eight seats out of nine.

“President Hichilema has lifted the lives of rural people through education, healthcare, it may be nothing here in Lusaka but it is something for rural people and opposition should learn that you can’t win an election by talking here in Lusaka, you have to move, you have to interact with the people,” he explained.

“Things can be hard but the message is clear to the people on where we are going. We are moving with the people, the more they criticise us, the more we interact with the people.”

PF created a safe environment for all, there were no abductions – Kampyongo

PF created a safe environment for all, there were no abductions – Kampyongo

FORMER Home Affairs minister Stephen Kampyongo says the Patriotic Front (PF) had created a safe environment for all citizens as there were no abductions during its time.

Speaking at a media briefing on Friday in Lusaka, Kampyongo stated that the previous regime invested in surveillance equipment to track criminals across the country.

He wondered why the recent occurrences such as the alleged abduction of Petauke Member of Parliament Emmanuel Banda have not been concluded when the country is privileged to have surveillance equipment.

“The recent occurrences such as the abduction of a Member of Parliament whose matter hasn’t been concluded is shocking and the people of Zambia are still waiting to understand the circumstances surrounding that aspect of abduction,” he said.

“We as PF Government did what we could in terms of trying to get a secured environment for our citizens especially in the cities such as Lusaka and some cities on the Copperbelt. Our colleague, our minister launched a project called Safe City. We invested in Safe City as the name suggests to ensure that our citizens are safe throughout the day and night. It is meant to suggest that our communities are safe day and night. We invested in some surveillance equipment to monitor the movement of vehicles.”

He said what was remaining to these equipment was a legal framework to make it more viable in order to ensure that all public places are equally monitored.

Kampyongo further condemned the murder of Independent Broadcasting Authority Director General Guntila Muleya stating that there is need for immediate action to address the abduction cases in the country.

He added that the police should form a squad to specifically deal with abductors across the country.

“We need to see action. The police should do their job equally. To see the cases of abduction not being resolved when we have what we have some of these facilities is shocking to my mind.”

“How can the case of a Member of Parliament not be concluded? It simply shows that no one cares,” Kampyongo stated.

Govt’s Deceptive Financing of Vedanta Resources is a Betrayal of Zambian Taxpayers-Kasonde Mwenda

0

PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Title: Government’s Deceptive Financing of Vedanta Resources is a Betrayal of Zambian Taxpayers-Kasonde Mwenda C-EFF President

Date: July 28, 2024

During the launch of the First Capital Bank Head Office in Lusaka on July 25, 2024, President Hakainde Hichilema made a troubling admission. He refused to confirm the earlier announced $245 million payment, which is part of the $1.5 billion debt Vedanta Resources Limited owes Konkola Copper Mines (KCM). Instead, President Hichilema claimed he had only heard of this from others, including the investor, and had no personal confirmation of the deposit.

This evasion is deeply concerning, as it is believed that the $245 million is being sourced from the Zambian government itself, to be handed to Vedanta as part of a $500 million loan. Vedanta, in turn, would use this loan to settle its debt to the Zambian government. This maneuver is nothing short of irresponsible and deceptive. It gives the illusion that Vedanta is repaying its debts when, in reality, it is the Zambian taxpayer footing the bill.

This is not an isolated incident. We have witnessed similar schemes under the Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway project. The government claims to have secured investors, yet these so-called investors rely on funds from the Zambian government through the National Pension Scheme (NAPSA). Despite this, they will be collecting road tolls for the next 25 years, profiting immensely while the Zambian people bear the cost.

As the Economic Freedom Fighters-EFF, we condemn these schemes as criminal. They defraud the government treasury, benefitting only a privileged few connected to these corrupt arrangements. We challenge the government to transparently address and dispel the accusations that it is funding Vedanta Resources Limited at KCM. The Zambian people are enduring severe economic hardships and cannot afford a government engaged in money-laundering schemes that perpetuate poverty for the many while enriching a select few.

We demand accountability. We demand transparency. We demand an end to the exploitation of Zambian resources and taxpayer money for the benefit of a corrupt elite. The government must prioritize the welfare of its citizens over the interests of foreign investors and connected insiders.

It is time for President Hichilema and his administration to come clean. The people of Zambia deserve better.

Wherever we want to go our feet will take us there.

‘No reason can justify Mnangagwa going beyond his constitutional term limit!’

It is no longer in dispute that President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa is planning to extend his presidency beyond the constitutional two-term limit.

In spite of his assurances in early July 2024, at a rally in Mutare – that he would retire at the end of his current final term expiration in 2028 – there are already indications that he has absolutely no intentions of fulfilling his pledge.

Not that his announcement was some act of benevolence and humility – in the mold of South Africa’s first post-apartheid president, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, who retired after serving only one term, although he was eligible for another.

In fact, there was really no need for Mnangagwa to even announce his retirement in 2028, since this is a legal requirement as stipulated in sections 91(2) and 95(2b) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

He is currently serving his second and last term, which started on 4th September 2023 – and, as such, should be leaving office around September 2028.

Yet, we have, of late, been hearing reports of various ZANU PF groups that have been falling over each other in passing resolutions for him not to retire in 2028.

So far, the party’s Masvingo Provincial leadership as well as the Bulawayo and Midlands youth leagues have issued resolutions ‘urging’ Mnangagwa to remain in power until 2030.

The reason they have given is quite peculiar.

As far as they are concerned, Mnangagwa has been doing such a fantastic job as head of state that he deserves to extend this tenure beyond the legal limit to 2030 in order to see through his ‘Vision 2030’!

Wow!

It is undeniable that Mnangagwa plans to use these calls as justification to stay in power, under the ruse that, although genuinely wanted to retire (as he announced himself in public), he has no choice but to listen to the people, since ‘the voice of the people is the voice of god’.

We now know the drill.

Was this not the justification he used after usurping power, through unconstitutional means, from long-time tyrant Robert Gabriel Mugabe via a military coup in November 2017?

I am not even going to legitimize this utter absurdity by putting a capital ‘G’ to ‘god’ since this nonsense has absolutely nothing to do with Jehovah God whom I worship.

Now, this raises several worrisome issues that are not to be expected in a country that wants to be regarded as a civilized constitutional democracy.

For starters, are these people urging Mnangagwa to remain in power past his constitutional term limit seriously telling us that ZANU PF has no leadership continuity systems in place?

One would have expected this to be one of the most basic tenets of good governance .

Surely, carrying a national vision is not supposed to be the responsibility of only one person, particularly the one under whose leadership the idea was mooted.

There should be systems in place that, in the event of the incumbent departing office – for what ever reason, be it retirement, death, incapacitation, loss of an election, or even impeachment – the vision will still be continued by the next head of state.

It would truly be disconcerting if ZANU PF, especially as the political party in government, did not have such systems in place.

So, under what logic would the party justify making constitutional amendments to presidential term limits simply because one man ‘needs to see through his vision’?

What was to happen had, for instance, Mnangagwa actually came up with a ‘Vision 2050’, instead?

Was ZANU PF going to push for him to remain president till 2050?

Seeing that the party wants us to believe that there can be no one else to fulfil this ‘Vision 2030’, what is to happen if God was to call Mnangagwa today?

Would it mean that the vision for an ‘upper middle-income economy by 2030’ in Zimbabwe would also die with him?

Besides, ‘Vision 2030’ should not be Mnangagwa’s vision, but the nation’s vision.

This then brings up the second equally disturbing and linked issue.

Does this push by some in ZANU PF – for Mnangagwa to remain head of state well after the constitutional two-term limit – signal a political party that lacks any other members with leadership qualities?

Are they surely saying that Mnangagwa is the only person (in a political party with supposedly millions of members) who can lead Zimbabwe – to such an extent that amending the Constitution is the only way forward?

If that is the case, then this is frightening!

Again, I ask: So if Mnangagwa was to take his last breath today, would that result in ZANU PF failing to produce a replacement?

I am not trying to be funny with these questions.

Let us remember that a country’s constitution is a sacrosanct document, which can not be tampered with willy-nilly.

It defines the nation and sets the path it needs to follow.

That is why it is harder to amend the constitution than any other law.

In most cases, enacting, changing, or repelling a law requires only a simple majority (50% plus one) in Parliament – whereas the constitution needs two-thirds [section 328(5)].

As a matter of fact, in the Constitution of Zimbabwe, such provisions as term limits, declaration of rights (Chapter 4), and agricultural land (Chapter 16), in addition to a two-thirds majority, also require a referendum [section 328(9)].

This speaks volumes to the sacredness of this document.

As such, any constitutional amendments need to be very crucial and usually in the best interest of the people, as opposed to only a particular individual.

As such, it becomes most unacceptable when the country’s supreme law is manipulated at the whims of ZANU PF merely in order to see Mnangagwa extend his tenure.

In fact, it is most unsettling that ever since the Mnangagwa administration came into office in 2017, there have not been any significant constitutional amendments that were genuinely for the benefit of ordinary Zimbabweans.

What we have witnessed, instead, have been amendments to give the president more powers, especially over the appointment of court judges, extension of the retirement age of judges, and the removal of the presidential running mate [Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 2) Act, 2021].

All of these were meant only to benefit Mnangagwa himself, whilst consolidating his grip on power.

What constitutional amendments have been made that effectively strengthened citizens’ rights or improved their standards of living in the past seven years that Mnangagwa has been in power?

If anything, ordinary Zimbabweans have become more and more disenfranchised as their constitutional rights have repeatedly been wilfully trampled upon, under an increasingly shrinking democratic space.

I will now move on to my third point.

For argument’s sake, let us say ZANU PF sincerely believes that Mnangagwa is the country’s best (and only) foot forward in developing Zimbabwe.

There is nowhere in the democratic world where the supreme law of the land has been amended based on such a simplistic premise.

I made reference to Mandela at the beginning of my discourse.

No one can dispute that he was one of the most beloved and popular leaders of our time, in the whole wide world – but more specifically, in his own South Africa.

He is greatly revered even today – 11 years after his death.

Yet, despite this massive adoration – for a man who was larger than life – there was no way South Africans were ever going to amend their constitution simply to allow him to go beyond the two-term limit.

We never heard the governing ANC party clamouring for Mandela to serve till, let’s say, 2020, so that he could ‘see through his dream for a rainbow nation where everyone was equal’!

As a matter of fact, he was gentleman enough to serve only one term (1994 to 1999) by doing the right thing of retiring on account of advanced age.

Interestingly, when he stepped down as the head of state of South Africa in 1999, he was 81 years old – having been born in 1918.

This is the current age of our president in Zimbabwe!

Similarly, 81 years old is the same age as current US president Joe Biden – who was recently pushed to withdraw from the November 2024 presidential elections by his own Democratic Party due to the same reason.

Nonetheless, for some strange reason, some in ZANU PF believe Mnangagwa should actually go on until, at the very least, the age of 88 years old (in 2030)!

Furthermore, in 2001, then US president George W. Bush reached an approval rating of 90 percent – the highest of any American head of state – after the 11th September terrorist attacks.

Yet, never did we hear his Republican Party pushing for the US Constitution to be amended for Bush to remain in office past his two-term limit in 2009, ostensibly so that he can ‘finish the war on terror’!

So, what is so special about Mnangagwa?

Let us not forget that – unlike Mandela and Bush – Mnangagwa’s popularity has never been anything to write home about.

If anything, the man has struggled to convincingly win the two elections in which he has participated.

Despite the controversial and debatable ‘wins’, in 2018, he secured a paltry 50.8 percent of the popular vote, whilst most recently in 2023 he only managed to garner 52.6 percent.

In fact, in both elections, he actually received far fewer votes than his own ZANU PF party’s parliamentary candidates!

What justification is there, then, for a head of state who struggles to win elections to be rewarded with a constitutional amendment to extend his term?

For what reason can such a sacrosanct document, as the supreme law of the land, be changed simply to accommodate an individual who fails to win the hearts of over 53 percent of the population of Zimbabwe?

In addition, who would want an individual who has presided over the impoverishment and suffering of millions of ordinary Zimbabweans to stay in power even for a day more?

It gets even more interesting.

As we have already ascertained, even had Mnangagwa been loved by 99.99 percent of Zimbabweans, that would still not have been sufficient reason to amend the Constitution.

Nonetheless, there is another constitutional hurdle awaiting his ambitions, regardless of what some in ZANU PF may desire.

Section 328(7) is very clear.

“Notwithstanding any other provision of this section, an amendment to a term-limit provision, the effect of which is to extend the length of time that a person may hold or occupy any public office, does not apply in relation to any person who held or occupied that office, or an equivalent office, at any time before the amendment.”

Need I say more?

The Constitution of Zimbabwe has already spoken – loud and clear!

How much does Twitter pay for 1 million views?

Reaching 1 million Twitter followers sets a milestone for content creators on different social media platforms that run advertising programs. Even after being a giant number, 1 million views don’t make the same amount of money on different platforms.

Twitter has recently run an advertising program for its users. People on Twitter can now monetize their profiles with the program. But how much does Twitter pay for 1 million views? Let’s take a closer look at the earning potential for content creators with a massive Twitter following.

What is Twitter’s Monetization Model?

Twitter doesn’t have a direct payment system where they pay users based on their number of followers. Instead, Twitter’s main source of revenue comes from advertising. Businesses pay to promote their products and services on the platform, targeting specific user demographics.

As a content creator, you can earn money through Twitter’s advertising program. The more engagement your tweets get, things like retweets, likes, and comments, the more visibility your content will have. This increased visibility makes your profile more attractive to potential advertisers.

Understanding Twitter’s Ad Revenue Streams

Twitter offers several ways for businesses to advertise on the platform, including:

Promoted Tweets: Paid posts that appear in users’ feeds, even if they don’t follow the account.

Promoted Accounts: Profiles that are promoted to users who don’t already follow them.

Promoted Trends: Hashtags that are highlighted at the top of the trends list.

As a content creator, you can potentially earn a share of the revenue generated from these ad placements on your tweets.

How Much Does Twitter Pay for 1 Million Views?

Now, the big question is how much you can actually earn with 1 million Twitter followers. The answer is it varies widely.

There are a few key factors that influence how much a content creator with 1 million followers can earn:

1. Follower Engagement

As we mentioned, engagement is crucial. The more your followers interact with your content, the more valuable you are to advertisers. A creator with 1 million highly engaged followers will earn significantly more than someone with 1 million inactive followers.

2. Content Quality and Relevance

The type of content you post and how well it aligns with your followers’ interests also plays a big role. High-quality, relevant content that resonates with your audience will perform better and attract more advertisers.

3. Audience Demographics

The demographics of your followers, such as age, location, and interests, can impact your earning potential. Certain audience segments are more valuable to advertisers than others.

4. Transparency and Reporting

Demonstrating clear, verifiable earnings from past partnerships can help you build credibility and negotiate better rates with brands.

5. Platform Policies and Algorithms

Twitter’s constantly evolving policies and algorithms can also influence your earning potential. Staying up-to-date and compliant with the platform’s rules is important.

Strategies for Maximizing Your Twitter Earnings

So, how can you maximize your earnings as a content creator with 1 million Twitter followers? Here are some strategies to consider:

Getting More Followers on Twitter

Implementing effective strategies to get more followers for your Twitter account can significantly boost your earning potential. This could include things like using third party services to buy organic followers, getting out better content, collaborating with other creators, and running promotional campaigns.

Understanding Twitter Analytics

Dive deep into your Twitter Analytics to understand your followers’ demographics, interests, and engagement patterns. This data can help you create more targeted, valuable content that appeals to advertisers.

Complying with Twitter’s Monetization Policies

Make sure your content and activities align with Twitter’s monetization guidelines. Violating these policies can lead to your account being suspended, which will, of course, impact your earning potential.

Producing High-Quality, Engaging Content

Consistently create content that resonates with your audience. The more engagement your tweets generate, the more attractive your profile will be to potential advertisers.

Leveraging Sponsored Tweets

Explore opportunities to partner with brands and create sponsored content. This can be a lucrative way to monetize your large following, but be sure to maintain transparency and authenticity.

Optimizing Your Profile and Presence

Your Twitter profile is your digital storefront. Ensure it’s well-optimized with a professional profile picture, compelling bio, and a link to your website or other platforms.

Understanding Follower Quality vs. Quantity

When it comes to earning money on Twitter, the quality of your followers is just as important as the quantity. Having 1 million real, engaged followers is much more valuable than having 1 million fake or inactive accounts.

Twitter’s algorithm favors accounts with high engagement rates, not just large follower counts. So, even if you have a massive following, if your followers don’t interact with your content, you won’t see the same earning potential as someone with a smaller but more engaged audience.

Real-Life Examples of High-Earning Twitter Accounts

To give you a better idea of the earning potential, let’s look at some real-life examples of high-earning Twitter accounts:

Kim Kardashian

With over 69 million followers, Kim Kardashian reportedly charges up to $500,000 for a single sponsored tweet.

James Breakwell

A comedy writer with over 1 million followers, James Breakwell is said to earn around $10,000 per sponsored tweet.

As you can see, the earnings can vary greatly, even among accounts with similar follower counts. It’s not just about the number of followers but the quality of the audience, the content, and the creator’s overall influence on the platform.

Conclusion

While having 1 million Twitter followers is an impressive feat, the actual earnings potential can vary greatly. The key is to focus on building a community of real, engaged followers, creating high-quality content that resonates with your audience, and leveraging Twitter’s monetization features strategically.

Remember, it’s not just about the big number, it’s about the quality of your followers and your ability to turn that following into a reliable source of income. With the right approach, you can unlock the true earning potential of your 1 million Twitter followers.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER: Copper Queens Need Our Support More in this Hour

A sombre Monday salutation to our beloved football family. This week’s interaction comes off the Copper Queens Olympic assignment that ended in a 6-5 loss to Australia in Nice. It was a game that we definitely had everything going our way and had everyone on the edge of their seats. It is not yet time to provide a full postmortem of the Olympic assignment as we still have one more game to play against Germany in St Etienne on Wednesday.

Our game against Australia has left us wondering what could have been, given the many opportunities we were ahead in the match. Like every game, we will be expecting that it is reviewed and rectify the mistakes before our final game against Germany. Mathematically, we still have a chance to sneak into the quarterfinals as one of the best losers. Other than the motivation to make it into the quarterfinals, we will also be obliged to redeem our national pride with a win on the final day of Group B matches.

One of the positives in the Australia game was our ability to create and bury chances. We were also delighted to see our captain, Barbra Banda earn another record with a tournament hat-trick. She took her record of Olympic Games hat-tricks to three which is a world record. The milestone should inspire our athletes to be world beaters. Overall, the team requires everyone’s support to recover from the two losses. We can rally behind them to wind up with a win against Germany. We will be back with a postmortem in the aftermath of the tournament and provide direction from this point onwards.

Back home, we have had the national team selection exercise going on across the 10 provinces. The exercise has seen various technical experts involved from the provincial to the national level. We have also brought on board some of the respected coaches in our game. Former national team coaches Wedson Nyirenda, Beston Chambeshi and Aggrey Chiyangi will be part of the trainers involved in the selection exercise.

The selection exercise which was a recommendation of the technical committee and approved by the executive committee provides a window through which we can see how much talent we have across that can be groomed and infused in our national team structures. We have borrowed from the experience of experts that have lived through various phases of our national teams. The All Stars versus The Rest will be the final stage of this exercise that will be staged in Lusaka.

Have a productive week!

The Crucial Need for Opposition Strategy in Zambia’s 2026 Elections

The Crucial Need for Opposition Strategy in Zambia’s 2026 Elections

By Dr Mwelwa

Oh wretched people that we are, who shall deliver us from the hands of the UPND? This distressed cry reverberates across our land, from the bustling cities to the quiet villages. As we approach the 2026 general elections, it’s increasingly clear that we are caught in a web of political manipulation and missed opportunities.

Amid this storm of uncertainty, the recent proposal by Mwangala Zaloumis, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), threatens to further complicate our electoral process. By suggesting a four-day delay in announcing presidential election results, she has opened a Pandora’s box of potential crises. While the ECZ claims this change is necessary, it could lead to unrest, mistrust, and even fraud.

However, amid these reforms and the ruling party’s maneuverings, the opposition remains oddly passive. The truth is, the opposition often cries foul over election losses, blaming the system, but fails to take necessary steps to secure a victory. They are negligent in planning and organizing, unable to counter the strength and strategy of the incumbents.

From the outset, President Hakainde Hichilema and his UPND government have been meticulously plotting to extend their hold on power. They’ve placed allies in critical positions, from the judiciary to the ECZ, and even strategically positioned head teachers who can influence electoral outcomes by serving as returning officers. This comprehensive strategy highlights the ruling party’s grasp on long-term planning and execution.

In stark contrast, the opposition seems to wander aimlessly. They rely too much on chance and voter sentiment, hoping for a miraculous “wind of change” to blow in their favor. This is not only naive but dangerously ineffective. They fail to recognize that modern elections require robust strategies, careful planning, and dynamic leadership.

While the UPND government is busy managing voter sentiment, addressing key issues like exchange rates and food prices to secure support, the opposition remains disorganized. They lack a consistent message and fail to present a clear and compelling alternative to the current government. They are, in essence, a protest movement without a solid plan or vision for the future.

The ruling party’s tactics extend to manipulating the legal system to their advantage, potentially sidelining opposition leaders through corruption charges. Yet, the opposition continues to act as though electoral victories can be won solely on the merit of being different from the ruling party. They underestimate the power of incumbency and the meticulous planning that the UPND has employed to stay ahead.

As a result, the Zambian people find themselves asking: “Oh wretched people that we are, who shall deliver us from the hands of UPND?” The opposition must shake off its complacency and step up with a strategic, organized effort. They must build a strong foundation that can withstand the ruling party’s strategies and truly challenge their hold on power.

The ECZ’s proposal to delay announcing election results should not be the scapegoat for the opposition’s failures. It’s crucial for the opposition to focus on ensuring transparency and efficiency in the electoral process while addressing their own shortcomings. Only by doing so can they restore public trust and offer a genuine alternative to the Zambian people.

As we edge closer to the 2026 elections, Zambia stands at a crucial juncture. The opposition must awaken to the reality that winning an election requires more than just good intentions and hope. It demands strategic planning, strong leadership, and a clear, compelling vision for the future.

If the opposition can rise to this challenge, they might just answer the desperate cry of our people: “Oh wretched people that we are, who shall deliver us from the hands of UPND?” Only then can we hope to save our democracy and build a future that honors the spirit of Zambia.

POLICE MUST BE COMMENDED FOR ACTING SWIFTLY TO ARREST GUNTILA MULEYA’S MURDER SUSPECTS – KALABA

Lusaka, July 28 – Citizens First would like to commend the Police for acting swiftly to arrest murder suspects in the untimely and tragic death of former IBA Director General, Mr. Guntila Muleya.

The arrest of suspects brings closure to speculation as to who was involved and we hope investigations will be expedited to establish the motive of carrying out such a gruesome and inhuman act on a defenceless citizen.

We would like to urge the Police to act decisively and leave no stone unturned to dispense justice and ensure there are no sacred cows in this despicable act of criminality.

In this vein, we would like to express our utmost shock and disbelief that Police officers who are supposed to be fighting crime, are the ones suspected to be getting hired to carry out an assassin’s job.

The revelations surrounding the murder of Mr. Muleya is a severe indictment on the Police Command that leaves a bitter taste in the mouth of every citizen as we don’t know if we should be trusting Police men or be running away from them.

We appeal to the Inspector General of Police to take this matter seriously and conduct an audit to weed out criminal elements from the Police service.

Further, we urge members of the public to depoliticize this criminal act and allow the Police to do a professional job and ensure they restore public confidence and trust in the tainted image of the Police service.

To the Commander in Chief, President Hakainde Hichilema, we urge you to act decisively and not allow this level of thuggery and criminality to be happening under your watch. We expect nothing less than heads rolling unlike the mockery reshuffles the nation is being subjected to at the height of grand corruption scandals involving ministers.

Lastly, we expect the same speed and haste employed by the Police in this arrest, to also be used in bringing to book those who were involved in the abduction of Petauke Central Member of Parliament Emmanuel Jay Banda.

MAKEBI ZULU’S YOUNG BROTHER CALEB WAS PAID K100, 000 TO ABDUCT AND KILL IBA DIRECTOR GENERAL

MAKEBI ZULU’S YOUNG BROTHER CALEB WAS PAID K100, 000 TO ABDUCT AND KILL IBA DIRECTOR GENERAL

The guy next to Makebi Zulu in this picture is Caleb Zulu and he is a police officer.

When Guntila Muleya was appointed as IBA Director General, he called for audits and stopped corruption deals.

But this did not sit well with some IBA PF/aligned government workers who are inside and they decided that they were going to fix him.

One of the ways of fixing was to break his legs so that he can go on leave and while on leave, behind they would engage in corruption activities.

In no time, the PF/UKWA people at IBA decided to hire killers and close to their chest was their own Makebi Zulu’s young brother Caleb Zulu who is a police officer.

The PF/UKWA unhappy government workers stationed at IBA, paid Makebi ZULU’S young brother K100, 000 and another police officer K100, 000 and the reserve a K100, 000 while promising them that if they succeed in breaking the legs of Muleya and making him disabled, they would get an extra K100, 000 each.

But when they were trying to kill Muleya, he tried hard to fight back and that is how Makebi Zulu’s young brother fired the live bullet in the back of the dead IBA Boss and another cop fired the finishing bullet.

One of the PF/UKWA government worker stationed at IBA and funder of this abduction and assassination flew into Australia immediately after paying for this very incident, however another is in the country.

As for the guns, we leave to the police as killer Makebi Zulu’s young brother Caleb Zulu got guns from Manda Hill police station and obviously the officer in charge there takes count of all guns under his watch.

One PF/UKWA woman Member of Parliament recently announced that they have people to use in government to cause havoc.

THE RISKS OF CONSTITUTIONAL MANIPULATION FOR POLITICAL GAIN”

THE RISKS OF CONSTITUTIONAL MANIPULATION FOR POLITICAL GAIN”

Word has spread that President HH recently met with Members of Parliament at the statehouse to discuss various topics. According to social media reports, the agenda included potential constitutional changes. Some of the ideas being suggested include eliminating the 50% plus one rule and changing to a simple majority, extending the presidential term from five to seven years, and altering the process for selecting the Vice President by removing the requirement for a running mate.

If there are indeed intentions to amend the constitution for political convenience, it is crucial to emphasize to the UPND government that a republican constitution plays a fundamental role in a country by laying down the foundation for governance and safeguarding the rights of its citizens. By establishing necessary checks and balances, a republican constitution ensures power is not concentrated in the hands of a few, promoting democracy and protecting the rights of individuals. It is concerning when democratic principles within the constitution are targeted for modification, as it begs the question of whether it is solely to maintain power. In such circumstances, what repercussions might arise from proposed constitutional amendments?

It is widely known that the UPND’s leadership has weakened democratic processes and eroded public trust in government. Examples are plentiful. We have observed power becoming centralized in President HH’s hands, leading to abuses and violations of citizens’ rights. With the state of democracy and governance worsening, pursuing constitutional amendments for short-term political gain could have lasting negative effects on a country’s stability and prosperity.

Hence, altering crucial aspects of a republican constitution, such as eliminating the 50% plus one requirement for a simple majority, extending the term of office from five to seven years, and substituting the running mate provision with the Vice President’s appointment, can severely harm the democratic process. This risks undermining democratic principles by disregarding the people’s will and weakening the separation of powers. This may lead to the decline of democratic institutions, silencing dissent, and suppressing political opposition. These modifications can pave the way for election manipulation, power consolidation in a few hands, and the erosion of democratic norms and values. Such erosion can have significant repercussions on a government’s stability and legitimacy.

Therefore, the dangers of manipulating the constitution for political purposes are substantial and should not be underestimated. It is imperative to uphold the principles of a republican constitution and adhere to the rule of law to safeguard the lasting stability and prosperity of a nation. Any efforts to change the constitution for immediate political advantage can result in serious repercussions for democracy and the rights of individuals. It is vital for legislators, citizens, and all parties involved to remain vigilant and oppose any actions that undermine the Constitution’s integrity for personal or political gain. Ultimately, does the UPND government wish to be remembered for this? Proponents of this agenda need to reflect on their decisions and handle public affairs in the national interest, as neglecting to do so will be judged harshly by future generations.

Different strokes for different folks

Different strokes for different folks

26.07.24-Anthony Mukwita

The Merriam-Webster dictionary has a simple description for ´musical chairs´ which I find apt.

It is “a game in which players march to music around a row of chairs numbering one less than the players and scramble for seats when the music stops.”

In plain language it also describes the game as, “a situation or series of events occurring in ´rapid change or confusing activity´.”

Looking at the description above, I tend to think that what has occurred in Zambia in recent days as President Hichilema tries to fight graft looks like musical chairs.

I am just spit-balling here and stand to be corrected by you people that are more intelligent than I am.

Take for instance the revelations in the explosive academic paper by Dr. O´Brien Kaaba of the scrapped ACC board that pointed to the fact that the graft Czar Tom Shamakamba was corrupt to the core.

Dr. Kaaba, an UNZA don also pointed a finger at the Solicitor General of Zambia Marshal Muchende alleging that, Mr. Muchende too could be a dirty ´cop´.

Dr. Kaaba´s revelation threw Zambia officialdom into instant panic with Shamakamba walking the hall of shame, head down while Muchende scampered for cover behind a law-suit against the whistleblower.

Zambia watched with abated breath, waiting to see what Don HH would do given the fact that he assumed office in 2021 riding high on the tide or promise of eradicating graft.

He said graft was endemic and almost pathological under predecessor president Edgar Lungu, he would cut its ugly head off once in office, but has he?

In one fell swoop, President Hichilema used his majestic power, scrapped the anti-graft body ACC and along with it, the most celebrated whistleblower in modern Zambian history Dr Kaaba.

Analysts, cheered first then backed down and started crying asking the following questions?

Why has the boss scrapped a board that is fighting corruption unequivocally and loudly instead of rewarding individual members e.g. Dr Kaaba?

Isn’t his action tantamount to throwing the water away along with the baby in the tub?

If Dr. Kaaba had done the right thing by exposing graft on the board why punish him?

If Dr Kaaba had fingered Muchende—who by the way has officially been or is being officially probed by ACC—why hasn’t the President asked Muchende to step aside and allow a thorough probe to go through?

Instead, the whistle blower goes under the bus, no good deed goes unpunished typically.

Something is amiss here unless ordinary people like me cannot read deep into a choreographed speech.

Just when analysts were ploughing through a pile of what could have really happened at ACC, lo and behold, another scandal at ZAMSA, the institution entrusted with buying life saving drugs for Zambia under the Ministry of Health then headed by Ms Sylvia Masebo erupts.

It turns out sixty-one trucks carrying huge 20-foot containers with drugs missed their way to the designated ZAMSA warehouse and ´wrongly´ docked at a private yard in Lusaka.

The huge inconspicuous trucks went missing for at least seven whole months according to those with inside knowledge such as Dr. Aaron Mujajati.

Seven months, a period when some people could have died for lack of medicine.

Once again, many justice seeking Zambians believed President Hichilema would crack the whip, sack the Minister of health, and scrap the ZAMSA board.

Instead, he moved Ms. Masebo to the Ministry of Lands, escaping punishment for the ´missing trucks´ and possible casualties that could have occurred while the medicine laden trucks were missing.

By now, many analysts were not totally surprised, just a tiny bit flabbergasted because at the same time, ´musical chairs´ were at play on Mr. Peter Kapala.

For those in the dark, like practically, Mr. Kapala has presided over the Energy Ministry for as long as ZESCO has failed to deliver power into your house and mine with black-outs lasting three to four days sometimes.

More darkness is yet to come I heard so you aint seen nothing yet.

Some thought our beloved President HH would sack Mr. Kapala for failing to light up Zambia, but he sent him to the Ministry of Fisheries and Water.

More like digging one hole of problems to bury another equally problematic hole according to analysts.

At the time the musical chairs were unfolding in Zambia, William Ruto, the President of Kenya had just sacked twenty-four erring cabinet ministers and forced a police chief to quit.

H.E Samia Suhulu Hassan the President of Tanzania was just sacking an erring Minister.

The point I am making is through his action or inaction here at home, President Hichilema is being seen by the 2.8 million majority Zambians that voted him into office as lacking the stamina to discipline his inner-circle when it matters the most.

They are beginning to think the once upon a time hard-nosed anti-graft champion has gone soft on the scourge is now looking the other way.

Other critics such as former Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Harry Kalaba even doubt President Hichilema´s appetite to fight graft since “he has not declared his assets.”

As a student of politics, I think it´s early days for Mr. Hichilema to be doubted this grossly by his 2.8 million people base, but it’s not too late.

If he acted a little bit more decisively next time one of his close allies errs, he might just get himself back on the warm side of the bed of his sympathisers.

If he does not act, however, the political consequences would be dire.

Musical Chairs have never gotten a leader to no victory space in recent modern history.

UPND Leadership Storms Out of Umutomboko Ceremony, Leaving Behind a Half-Drunk Fruiticana

We are not sure if the awuaclear and Vatra Mineral water are full here or empty but here is what happened….

Once upon a time, in a kingdom far far away from Lusaka, a ceremony was held in Luapula Province named Umutomboko ceremony but akin to the South African “Mad Buddies” a political party United Party for National Development (UPND) leaders and ministers staged an unceremonious exit from the prestigious Umutomboko ceremony. The reason? A royal snub from Mwata Kazembe, who like many Zambians are saying enough is enough.

The high profile ministers arrived in all their glory, presumably expecting a warm welcome and a platform to deliver their keynote speech full of promises. Little did they know, Mwata Kazembe had other plans. Citing the persecution of his sons Hon Chilangwa and Hon Chitotela whose parliamentary seats are part of the 15 by-elections UPND allegedly wants to create this year, Mwata Kazembe decided it was time for a plot twist and register his displeasure.

Upon learning that their grand speech would not see the light of day, the entourage didn’t just leave they stormed out. To add to their woes, they were booed by the residents who had come for the celebrations, making their departure even more embarrassing.

And, in an act that will undoubtedly go down in the history of this country, “they left behind a half-drunk cold mixed fruit Fruiticana drink from trade kings manufactured right here in Lusaka”. Was it a statement? Well he should have just finished so to symbolize the empty promises they have come with as an outgoing government.

As the dust settles on this political drama, one thing is clear, the UPND ministers’ hopes of a triumphant keynote were dashed, leaving behind only questions, a chorus of boos, and a slightly sticky Fruiticana bottle. As for Mwata Kazembe, it seems he’s found a new way to express his dissatisfaction no need for words when a well timed snub and a royal eye roll can say so much more.

Stay tuned, folks. In Zambian politics, the fruit juice may be half-drunk, but with the ichipani present the drama is always full-bodied.

69 vehicles, 40 plots and K90 million came from my father as a birthday gift. Narrates son of Lungu in court

FORMER PRESIDENT EDGAR LUNGU’S SON DEFENDS ASSETS IN ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL CRIMES COURT

dalitso lungu claims vehicles and properties were gifts from his father and legally acquired

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA, July 25 – In a high-profile case at the Economic and Financial Crimes Court, Dalitso Lungu, son of former President Edgar Lungu, has testified that the majority of the vehicles and properties subject to forfeiture proceedings were purchased for him by his father. Dalitso stated that these assets were legally acquired and are not proceeds of crime.

Dalitso revealed that his father gifted him a filling station, which has been leased to Total Energies for US$8,000 per month since 2018. He emphasized that the filling station, along with other properties, belongs to Saloid Traders Limited, a family business primarily financed by his father.

The Director of Public Prosecutions has sought to have over 80 vehicles and properties belonging to Dalitso and his company forfeited to the State, citing “unexplained wealth” amounting to about K31 million. The State’s submission highlighted that Dalitso owns 16 properties and 21 vehicles registered under his name, with some vehicles found parked at Ndozo Lodge and others abandoned in Siavonga.

In his affidavit opposing the forfeiture notice, Dalitso detailed the acquisition of several vehicles, all registered under Saloid Traders Limited but purchased by his father. These included a Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Prado, Nissan NP300s, and Mitsubishi Pajeros. He also mentioned that three Shacman Tipper trucks and one trailer were bought by Saloid Traders Limited on a credit sale agreement.

Dalitso contested the State’s valuation of his assets, arguing that the reported values do not reflect the actual purchase prices. He stressed that the properties and vehicles were acquired legally and are not proceeds of crime.

The court heard that Dalitso’s formal employment was not his only source of income, as he had been financially supported by his parents since childhood. He also stated that the seizure of his vehicles had disrupted the business operations of Saloid Traders Limited, preventing the company from fulfilling its payment obligations.

Dalitso also addressed the Director of Public Prosecutions’ directive for Total Energies to deposit rental payments into the National Prosecution Authority’s forfeiture account, claiming the DPP had no legal authority to redirect these funds.

UKUSEFA PANGW’ENA PREPARATIONS ADVANCE

Preparations for the Ukusefya Pangw’ena Traditional ceremony of the Bemba people of Northern and Muchinga Provinces have reached an advanced stage.

A check by ZANIS in Mungwi found the road leading to the Ngwena Arena, the site for the ceremony, upgraded while people were busy cleaning at the main arena.

And Ukusefya Pangw’ena Traditional Ceremony Northern Province Organising Committee Chairperson, Navnit Patel, expressed confidence that everything is on course to hold the ceremony.

Mr Patel highlighted that the Committee has made significant progress in holding the event as the major works have been done.

He mentioned that the grading of the roads has been done, while the installation of flat stones and the construction of 22 pit latrines are underway.

“As a committee, we are very much ready to hold the ceremony as the major works have been done, and we are grateful to Mungwi Town Council for grading the roads on time. We are only left with a few things to work on, and we hope everything will be in place by 3rd August 2024. Otherwise, we are good to go,” he said.

Mr Patel has since encouraged the Subcommittees for the ceremony to remain committed to their assignments.

Mr Patel said this at the Ukusefya Pangw’ena traditional ceremony preparatory meeting at the Ng’wena Arena in Mungwi District.

And Ukusefya Pangw’ena Organising Committee Secretary, Richard Mukuka, highlighted the activities that will be held prior to and after the ceremony.

He mentioned hosting of a dinner, business expositions, and the street carnival, as some of the activities lined-up, which are meant to create hype for the main event.

“The Ukusefya Pangw’ena calendar of events includes a corporate sponsor audience with Paramount Chief Chitimukulu, a business exposition, the Kasama Street Carnival, and a cultural exposition from the 18 Ulubemba chiefdoms, among others.

“As you may be aware, Ulubemba comprises 18 Chiefdoms from Northern and Muchinga Provinces, so we will have all these represented at the ceremony,” he noted.

The Ukusefya Pangw’ena Traditional ceremony will be held in Mungwi from August 8 to 10, 2024.

President Hakainde Hichilema is expected to grace the event.

FIVE SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR THEFT OF COPPER CATHODES WORTH OVER K6.6 MILLION

FIVE SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR THEFT OF COPPER CATHODES WORTH OVER K6.6 MILLION

Police have arrested five suspects in connection with theft of 26 tons of copper cathodes valued over K6.6 Million in Kapiri Mposhi District of Central Province.

According to the Provincial Police Commissioner, Charity Munganga, the copper cathodes were stolen from a truck registration number T184 BCR and trailer registration T610 BCR belonging to a Tanzanian Company called Bukoli Kwetu limited.

ZANIS reports that Ms Munganga, who guided Provincial Permanent Secretary Milner Mwanakampwe, to the place where the contraband was hidden, explained that the driver, Aggrey Mwanri, a Tanzanian national, was attacked by three unknown men at Mafwasa area in Kapiri Mposhi as he was driving to Nakonde.

Ms Munganga added that the three unknown men blocked the road with a barricade which deflates tyres when crossed over.

“They then grabbed and pulled the driver out of the truck and covered his face with a cloth and threw him in an unknown vehicle which took him to an unknown place where he was left tied up with masking tape on both hands, legs and was blind folded,” she narrated.

Ms Munganga said the victim managed to remove the tape from his hands and sought assistance from a nearby village known as Ngulube farms, where he was assisted in contacting the Police Station.

She stated that officers were dispatched to the scene immediately.

“They took the victim to the hospital for medical examination and was treated,” she stated.

She further indicated that the total value of the copper cathodes is K6, 653,068.

Amit Gilani, a representative from Inara Investments, the transporter of the copper cathodes, said his company was alerted when the mobile tracker on the truck showed that the truck was going off route.

Mr Gilani said the truck later went missing and could not be traced with the device.

“It was later discovered that the device was removed from the truck,” he said.

Dr Mwanakampwe described the incident as unfortunate saying he would leave that matter to the law enforcers to investigate.

He said the government would ensure that such matters are investigated and the culprits are brought to book.

Meanwhile, metal straps used to tie the copper cathodes to the truck were found in a ditch about 100 meters from the houses at the village.

Mweetwa Pays Tribute to Late IBA Director General at Funeral Service

Mweetwa Pays Tribute to Late IBA Director General at Funeral Service

…He says the arrest of four people is the first step toward achieving justice for the killing of Muleya.

By Francis Maingaila

Lusaka,– (July 27, 2024) – In a solemn ceremony held today, the Minister of Information and Media, Cornelius Mweetwa, paid tribute to the late Director General of the Independent Broadcast Authority (IBA), Guntila Muleya, who was tragically assassinated a few days ago.

The service, attended by high-ranking officials including the Minister of Tourism and the Principal Private Secretary to the President, was marked by deep sorrow and reflection on Muleya’s impactful life.

Mweetwa announced that the police have arrested four individuals in connection with Muleya’s murder.

“We are saddened by his untimely death, but we trust that justice will be served. The police have arrested four suspects so far, and we hope justice will be delivered,” Mweetwa stated.

He expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family, assuring them of the government’s support.

“As government, we would like to assure the family that they will not be alone; they will have the Lord to care for them,” he said.

Addressing mourners, Mweetwa acknowledged the difficulty of finding suitable words for such an occasion. “We never anticipated being here today, yet here we are, just 90 days later,” he remarked.

“My role is not to say many things but to celebrate a life well-lived in public service.”

Mr. Muleya’s distinguished career spanned both the private and public sectors, showcasing his dedication to the nation.

“His resume shows a dedicated patriot who gave so much to the private sector before contributing to the public sector,” Mweetwa noted.

“He demonstrated true patriotism by taking a position in public service, where financial rewards are not as high. His commitment to public service is something we are proud of.”

“Death is painful, but it is a reality we all face. It is unfortunate, but it is a part of life.”

Mr. Muleya had been new to his role, having served only a few months as Director General of IBA.

Mweetwa recounted his discussion with Muleya about his vision for the IBA. “After our meeting with all directors and another official from the Ministry of Information and Media, he shared his vision for the IBA. Little did I know, it was his way of saying goodbye.”

The selection of Mr. Muleya as Director General was the result of a rigorous and competitive process.

“The position of Director General of IBA was highly competitive, attracting many qualified professionals,” Mweetwa explained.

“The selection process took some time to ensure the right candidate was chosen. In line with the President’s policy, only the best candidate was selected based on merit. Mr. Muleya got the job on merit, and the government will continue to employ based on qualifications, not political connections or affiliations.”

Ms Munkondya added that the Volvo Truck has since been impounded while the bus is still on the scene.

She named those who survived as Prince Machito 15, Daine Machito 20 of Mpulungu, and Timothy Mazimba 38 of Mwiluzi village in Senga Hill.

She added that others are Priscilla Tembo 48 and Lewis Sikazwe, 59, of Mbala.

Mrs Munkondya said the seven bodies are lying in Senga Hill District Hospital mortuary while the five survivors are admitted to Senga Hill and Mbala District Hospitals respectively.

And Senga Hill District Commissioner, Elizabeth Goma, has expressed sadness at the deaths of the seven people.

Ms Goma has since appealed to the general public, especially those who had relatives who travelled along the Kasama-Mbala route to go to Senga Hill Hospital for possible identification of the bodies.

The District Commissioner has also cautioned all road users, especially drivers, to be extra careful and follow all the traffic rules to avoid loss of life.

HH is losing key allies at fast rate, he needs to introspect – Dickson Jere

By Brian Phiri(The Mast)

LUSAKA lawyer Dickson Jere says President Hakainde Hichilema is losing his key allies at fast rate.

He says when you start losing “your key allies especially those that do not need jobs just know something is not adding up”.

“The boss is losing his key allies at fast rate. He needs to introspect especially on those that supported him when it mattered!” Jere wrote on his Facebook wall.

But former lecturer at Evelyn Hone College, Herbert Macha argued that, “It is normal to lose some in any situation and still have support from those that believe in you. President HH is steadfast and his resilience to situations is there for one to see. It is laughable to assume that he is losing it that his ministers are not performing. How? Afred Alfred Zulu why should HH dissolve his Cabinet? What criteria are you using to assess their performance? I can cite the MoH [Ministry of Health] for instance is at 75-95% in medical supplies to health centres after finding it below 50%. The ministry of agriculture is on top [of] things! President HH has full support of his true allies those that stood for him when others were mocking him that he would never be President. Yes he may faulter here and there as human being.”

In response, Jere stated that: “Herbert Macha No, let us not just give support to our leaders when we can all see that the cookie is crumbling! We should learn to say it…Bishop [Telesphore] Mpundu was strong supporter of the President, what has happened? Brebner Changala was ever with the President, what has happened? Musa Mwenye supported the President, what has happened? The list goes on…when you start losing your key allies especially those that do not need jobs, just [k]now something [is] not adding up…I REPEAT, the boss needs some introspection!”

Ine (me) for now have stopped voting until further notice pantu (because) it seems politics in the Zambian context is not about service.”

The boss continues to score big time, do we need to be reminded? While we play politics on Facebook, the boss is on the ground with the grassroots. Go to Mambilima and tell them that the boss has lost it. The grassroots are not even aware about the 61 containers because all rural health centres including urban clinics have all the essential drugs and don’t walk away with prescriptions. Children are going to school without being sent away and university students are no longer starving.”

ZMA calls for suspension of Masebo amid ZAMMSA scandal

ZMA calls for suspension of Masebo amid ZAMMSA scandal

THE Zambia Medical Association (ZMA) has called for former Health Minister Sylvia Masebo to be barred from holding any ministerial position until investigations into the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) scandal are concluded.

The controversy centers around 61 containers of medicines and medical supplies intended for the ZAMMSA warehouse, which were diverted to a private facility and stored there for seven months.

The Ministry of Health faced criticism after it was revealed that the containers of critical medical supplies incurred K9 million in demurrage charges due to delays at the port.

This diversion allegedly occurred without the knowledge of the ZAMMSA Board and the Ministry of Health, raising significant public concern and questions about the government’s commitment to healthcare delivery in Zambia.

At a press briefing in Lusaka, ZMA President Roy Kaumba emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the management of medical supplies.

“The former Minister of Health should not hold any ministerial position until all investigations over this matter are conclusively exhausted to allow for a transparent system and preservation of public trust in our elected officials,” Kaumba stated.

Kaumba further urged the newly appointed Minister of Health, Elijah Muchima, to consider dismissing the current ZAMMSA board and appointing a new one.

“How can a board claim to be ignorant of the whereabouts of a government-to-government consignment meant for ZAMMSA that cost the Zambian people $24,000,000? That is a cost too much to bear.”

He stressed that the ZAMMSA board should be actively involved in monitoring and evaluation to maintain accountability.

“ZAMMSA should regularly publish procurement plans, contracts, and audits to maintain transparency. Ensure all procurement processes are competitive, transparent, and adhere to approved international standards,” he advised.

Kaumba also highlighted the need for leveraging technology to enhance the tracking of medical supplies.

“Implement advanced systems to track the movement of drugs and medical supplies effectively to ensure no break in the supply chain.”

He called for public awareness campaigns to educate citizens on identifying and reporting suspicious activities and emphasized the importance of regular audits to ensure compliance with national and international regulations.

“In the seven months that the said medicines and medical supplies were kept in the containers at the private facility, how many times did the board meet and was the delivery of the said consignment on the agenda? If not, why?” Kaumba questioned.

“The Ministry of Health, having committed the country to such a huge expenditure, paid for by the taxpayer’s money, why then did it take seven months for the ministry to find out that the consignments meant for the ZAMMSA warehouse had been taken to a private facility?”

Meanwhile, Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa disclosed that Masebo has not been found culpable in the scandal, noting that the President cannot fire her without evidence.

HH HAS BEEN UNDRESSED
…a lot of ministers, senior govt
officials need to be fired – Moyo

By Edwin Mbulo in Livingstone (The Mast)

HH only acts when he feels threatened, he does not act when Zambians complain, says Joseph Moyo.

“We removed the tip of an iceberg (PF) which was smaller and brought in the actual iceberg (UPND). We did not know that the iceberg would crush us,” he said.

Moyo, the founder and president of The African Woman Foundation (TAWF), reacting on President Hakainde Hichilema’s dissolution of the Anti-Corruption Commission board said it was too little too late.

“Despite the President dissolving the ACC board the damage to his credibility on the fight against corruption has already been done. This also clearly reveals that the ACC and those surrounding the President are corrupt. Actually ACC is too far, it’s the people around the Head of State. There are so many shady deals going on. Why dissolve the ACC board and not those around him? There are a lot of ministers and senior government officials that need to be dissolved by being fired,” he said. “The dissolution of the ACC board is a disaster. What HH has done does not save him. He has been undressed by the same people who are supposed to cover him. And thanks to Dr O’Brien Kaaba, we would not have known that the Emperor is naked because we were being told that he is dressed. The other sad thing is that President Hichilema only acts when it threatens his leadership. When we complain he does not care until it personally affects him and threatens him. He always denies that there is a problem until it gets closer to him.”

Moyo said the UPND government is full of shady deals right on the President’s doorstep.

He said being a patient who needs specialised treatment which is not available at Livingstone University Teaching Hospital he is very angry because he is a victim of corruption as government is unable to provide a neurosurgeon to the hospital.

Moyo charged that UPND leaders are there to just benefit themselves and their families.

“We removed the tip of the iceberg (in reference to the PF) and brought in the actual iceberg. We removed the PF saying they were corrupt but we gave way to actual iceberg, the name of the UPND. When we removed the tip we did not know that the iceberg will crush us. The tip of the iceberg was better because it was smaller,” he said. “Where do we now run to when faced with corruption because the ACC and government are themselves corrupt.”

Moyo added that President Hichilema also needs to get rid of the Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba, Minister of Agriculture Mtolo Phiri, the Zesco board and many of his ministers.

He said many UPND leaders who had nothing before are now more richer than late Dr Kenneth Kaunda who was in power for 27 years.

“Many UPND members have been warning me to be silent and not attack HH, but how can I be silent when as a patient I can’t be treated at my own hospital because there is no medication and a specialised doctor and yet millions of dollars which are supposed to improve the health sector are ending up in people’s pockets, pleasing only their wives, girlfriends and taking their children to expensive schools all because of corruption?

Teenage pregnancies are on the rise here in Livingstone all because of poverty caused by the corrupt in UPND,” said Moyo. “The UPND leaders should know that just like we see PF leaders in courts and cells, they will also face the same music when another government comes in. For Dr Kaaba to disclose the ACC happenings in public through a write up was a sign that he had no faith in the President’s fight against corruption because he would have gone to him in private to reveal what he did. For Dr Kaaba to write an open letter is a sign that he did not have faith in the person who constitutes the ACC board. It is a shame. It is a serious issue, the President is damaged.”

HH must scrutinise his team, identify the liabilities – Sikaile

HH must scrutinise his team, identify the liabilities – Sikaile

By Thomas Ngala (The Mast)

IF it takes nearly eight months to detect such a “large-scale theft” it raises serious concerns about the effectiveness of President Hakainde Hichilema’s appointees, says Sikaile Sikaile following the scandal at the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supply Agency (ZAMMSA).

“The President must scrutinise his team and identify the liabilities. It has been almost three years, and it should be clear who is underperforming,” he says.

Recent reports have shown that 61 containers of essential medicines from Egypt were diverted to a private warehouse in Lusaka instead of the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supply Agency (ZAMMSA).

Following the revelations, health minister Sylvia Masebo informed parliament that disciplinary measures have begun against all officers allegedly involved in this diversion, which occurred between January and July 12, 2024.

But in a statement, Sikaile, a good governance and human rights activist, said large-scale corruption like “this cannot occur without the involvement of high-level officials”.

“If it takes nearly eight months to detect such a large-scale theft, it raises serious concerns about the effectiveness of the President’s appointees. Large-scale corruption like this cannot occur without the involvement of high-level officials. For example, the disappearance of fertiliser trucks during the 2022/2023 farming season remains unresolved,” he said. “Furthermore, there are reports of chief government spokesman [Cornelius] Mweetwa dismissing the Financial Intelligence Centre’s (FIC) recent findings. If this is indeed Mweetwa’s stance, it is unrealistic and concerning. Is he suggesting that the President’s appointees are incompetent and fabricating reports? It is essential for relevant authorities to address the FIC’s findings appropriately.”

Sikaile observed that the root problem lies in the systemic corruption that has plagued the government for years.

He said President Hichilema had an opportunity to assemble a competent and honest team, “yet many current officials are recycled politicians from past administrations (UNIP, MMD, PF)”.

“Expecting different results from individuals who have previously failed is unrealistic. The President must scrutinise his team and identify the liabilities. It has been almost three years, and it should be clear who is underperforming. Without vigilance from his team, financial crimes will continue going unchecked,” he said. “Zambians will continue to express their dissatisfaction as long as these corruption allegations remain unaddressed by His Excellency. Corruption was a major reason why they voted out the PF administration. Under President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership, Zambians have high expectations for service delivery, given his clean financial record and management skills. However, it is deeply concerning to see similar reports of corruption and large-scale thefts that were prevalent under the PF administration of Mr Lungu.”

He said the situation also serves as a crucial lesson for the President adding that some individuals cannot be reformed regardless of the circumstances.

“After forming the government, President Hichilema retained many officials in key positions hoping they would change. Instead, they have demonstrated a blatant disregard for his directives and a lack of fear of repercussions. The President now faces a choice: continue to tolerate incompetent and self-serving individuals at the expense of his hard-earned integrity or take decisive action to uphold his standards. Building a good name is difficult but it can be easily destroyed,” warned Sikaile. “President Lungu failed to combat corruption because he rehired individuals previously dismissed by president Sata for corruption. President Hichilema must avoid repeating this mistake. If unchecked, corruption will overshadow his administration’s achievements.”

By-elections are nothing but a huge fraud by political fraudsters – M’membe

By-elections are nothing but a huge fraud by political fraudsters – M’membe

By Thomas Ngala (The Mast)

IT’S self-deception for President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND to celebrate and fool themselves that they have been winning by-elections, says Socialist Party leader Fred M’membe.

He alleges that the UPND has been purchasing and stealing elections.

“They have been dishing out huge amounts of money, mealie-meal, maize, fertilisers, and so on and so forth. This is spiced with violence, intimidation, and threats. Poor voters are threatened with removal from the social cash transfer lists if they don’t vote for them. Financially desperate voters are threatened with removal from CDF loans or grants lists if they don’t vote for them. They collect their voters’ cards and NRCs and assign UPND cadres to assist them vote,” he charged. “Mr Hichilema and the UPND are completely annihilating our electoral process. The credibility of our elections is gone. These by-elections are nothing but a huge fraud by political fraudsters. We participate in these fraudulent by-elections not necessarily to win them; they give us an opportunity to interact, communicate, and have discourse with our people. But what happens when elections are fraudulent and discredited in this way?”

He said the UPND seem to think and behave as if the only democratic procedure for people choosing their leaders were those fraudulent electoral processes, “so often prostituted to falsify the will and the interests of the people and so many times used to put into office the ineptest and shrewdest, rather than the most competent and the most honest”.

“As if after so many fraudulent elections, as if after so much false and treacherous politicking, as if after so much corruption the people could be made to believe that the only democratic procedure for a people to choose their leaders were these fraudulent electoral procedures. And as if any other procedure were not democratic – procedures through which a people choose their leaders not with a pencil but with the sacrifices of fellow compatriots,” he said. “When the electoral process is a fraud, people will think outside the box to express their will. They become more revolutionary in their thinking and approaches.”

Dr M’membe said realities do not arise in the world through someone’s whim.

He added that real revolutions do not arise by the will of one person or one group.

“Revolutions are realities that obey other realities. Revolutions are remedies – bitter remedies, yes. But at times revolution is the only remedy that can be applied to evils even more bitter,” wrote Dr M’membe on his Facebook wall.

Zulu accuses Mutati of betrayal, Parliament erupts in laughter

A DRAMATIC scene unfolded in Parliament yesterday as Lumezi Member of Parliament, Munir Zulu, unleashed a scathing attack on Technology Minister Felix Mutati, accusing him of betrayal.

Zulu, in a fiery outburst, likened Mutati to the biblical Judas, claiming the minister had lured him and other independent MPs with promises of ministerial positions after the UPND’s 2021 electoral victory.

However, in a stunning twist, Mutati allegedly secured a ministerial post for himself, leaving the independent MPs high and dry.

The revelation sent shockwaves through the House, with MPs erupting in laughter as Zulu recounted the alleged betrayal.

“I want to ask the Honorable acting minister of Education. I emphasise, on this particular one, balitubomfya sana bamudala aba (He used us a lot) as independents,” Zulu said.

Speaker Nelly Mutti struggled to maintain order as Zulu demanded answers from the embattled minister

“Order Honorable member for Lumezi, what were you saying, we didn’t hear what you were saying, you said it in Vernacular what were you meaning?” Mutti questioned.

Zulu responded: “Madam speaker he used us as independents at some time when going to meet the Republican President and never got back to the independents, so it’s an opportunity.

“Is that a complaint? Are you now willing to work with the people on my right? (UPND MPs) Because even yesterday the honourable member was saying we are ready to be ministers, we are ready, today he is saying he has never been taken, so if you are willing you can discuss with the other side, they will take you,” Mutti responded.

“What I am saying is that when he (Mutati) took us he became a minister himself,” Zulu added in his grievance.

Mutati, appearing unfazed, dismissed Zulu’s accusations as a “light note” and focused on the substantive question about ICT development in Chitambo.

The speaker, who was equally laughing at Zulu’s statement together with other parliamentarians then asked Zulu to go ahead with his supplementary question.

“Madam speaker, through you, Honorable acting minister of Education you have talked about cooperating partners. When will the cooperating partners join that team that is doing the ICT’s in Chitambo, I thank you madam speaker,” asked Zulu.

Mutati answered: “Madam speaker I’m quite sure the preamble to the question was on a light note. But the substantiate question, is with the cooperating partners in particular, Liquid Intelligence…they are going to connect all the secondary schools over a period of time”.

“They will not only connect in Chitambo, we are going to connect all the constituencies throughout Zambia, and all the secondary schools over a period of time. That is why we have said we are connecting 1291 secondary schools and those are the ones that we have currently in the Republic of Zambia, so it is all secondary schools, I thank you,” said Mutati.

WE WON’T ALLOW THIS NONSENSE
…we in Livingstone will also
fyantha anyone in HH’s way – UPND

By Edwin Mbulo in Livingstone (The Mast)

ATTEMPTS to divert President Hakainde Hichilema’s attention from working hard to change Zambians lives have failed, says a UPND leader.

Phillip Musela, who is Livingstone youth chairperson in-charge of secirity, warns that “we will be left with no choice but to attack any opposition leader who gets into HH’s way”.

Musela, who is eyeing the Livingstone mayoral in 2026, described Socialist Party leader Fred M’membe, Citizens First leader Harry Kalaba and the former president Edgar Lungua as “highly frustrated politicians who are becoming toxic”.

“We have a bunch of frustrated opposition leaders and some like M’membe, Lungu and Kalaba are highly frustrated Zambians who are becoming very toxic. M’membe tried to ride on Michael Sata and his death left him with a mental issue. Kalaba made Edgar Lungu president. He arranged for private meetings outside Zambia for Lungu and used the presidential jet to fly him out and now instead of directing his anger at Lungu he is targeting HH who is innocent,” Musela told The Mast. “As for Lungu, he carries a very heavy load of hatred against Hakainde Hichilema for his shameful loss in 2021 and he will live with it to his grave. These opposition leaders are in the forefront trying to divert President Hichilema from working hard to change Zambia and its people’s lives for the better. They are so angry with the successes of HH on many fronts such as CDF, which has changed many lives especially among the youths. They also don’t like the successes on the gigantic debt left by the PF. They don’t like hearing praises for HH from international leaders and partners such as the IMF.”

Musela said the youths in UPND won’t allow any opposition leaders to continue on their “destructive narrative”.

“We are ready and just like the political advisor to the Head of State (Levy Ngoma) said, we in Livingstone will also fyantha anyone in HH’s way. We won’t allow this nonsense to continue. The PF did hit us so hard when they were in power and we have listened to our President who asked us not to revenge. But when and if the attacks on HH become the order of the day we will be left with no choice but to attack,” said Musela.

I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE NORTHMEAD PLAY PARK LAND – LISWANISO

AS he warns youths against the use of his office to commit illegalities

July 26th, 2024

LUSAKA – UPND National Youth Chairperson Gilbert Liswaniso has denied reports linking him to the sale of a council play park located in northmead and has since advised youths to desist from using his office to commit illegalities.

Commenting on social media reports linking him to a K2m bribe meant at facilitating the alleged sale of the land to a Lebanese national identified as Hussein by the Lusaka City Council, Liswaniso said he only came to meet Mr Hussein yesterday when he was told that youths had encroached the park.

” I have no idea who that Hussein is. All I know is that Feldon Chanda Mutanuka  has been threatening him over the land that I thought belongs to the council.

“What happened yesterday was that I was called by Hussein that some youths from my office was at play park demanding that he vacates the land. He sent me a photo of the person threatening him. I realised it was Paul Mutanuka and that’s how I went there. Found Mutanuka and some youths from my office such as Brian Mulenga and Chiwenga. When I inquired on what was going on. That’s how Feldon Mutanuka started to accuse me of siding with foreigners in selling local land. I got very annoyed with him because this is the man who has been going round threatening land owners and government workers that he was from my office”, Liswaniso explained.

The national Youth Chairman further added that he was aware of several youths which includes Feldon Chanda Mutanuka who have been going round grabbing people’s land in the name of the party and office of the National Youth Chairman, something he says will not be tolerated.

He vehement denied ever receiving any amount of money from anyone in relation with the said piece of land, adding that reports have it that Mutanuka was given money by some Chinese national interested in the same land hence his threats on the Lebanese.

“Mutanuka should not think we don’t know his illegal activities. Last time on Hot FM we were made to defend the party because he has grabbed a piece of land from a land owner in Chalala in the name of my office. He has been going round government offices including the Ministry of Lands saying I have sent him.Going forward, I will not allow anyone to use my office to commit illegalities. Others went to make noise in Mumbwa over gold claiming they have been sent by my office. We shall now deal with anyone tarnishing our name through illegalities”, he added.

Mr. Liswaniso further wondered why police officers at Central Police were quick to release Mutanuka from lawful custody yesterday as he suspects a collusion and called on the Command to investigate the matter.

” I just want to warn everyone especially youths. We shall not condone any illegalities committed in my name or any party organ. We further call on the police to be decisive when dealing with crime committed under the guise of the UPND and office of the Youth Chairperson. I have no links with Hussein or the said land”, the Youth leader said.

FULL SCALE FORENSIC INVESTIGATION REGARDING 61 CONTAINERS UNDER WAY AT ZAMMASA-DEC

FULL SCALE FORENSIC INVESTIGATION REGARDING 61 CONTAINERS UNDER WAY AT ZAMMASA-DEC

We wish to update the nation on the ongoing investigations at the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) in connection with the case involving sixty-one (61) containers of essential medicines that were found in a private warehouse in Lusaka.

The brief background is that these containers of medicines and medical supplies were procured after the Government of the Republic of Zambia and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt entered into an agreement valued at US$24 million.

You may wish to know that a Joint Investigation Team, from the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) and the Zambia Police Service (ZPS) initiated investigations to establish why these containers were kept at a private depot for such a long time and thereby denying the citizenry of the access to proper medicines and medical supplies.

So far, statements have been recorded from several key individuals from the Ministry of Health and ZAMMSA. In addition, statements have also been recorded from the depot Management in whose custody the containers were found, as well as the Clearing Agent and the Shipping Company.

Preliminary investigations, have shown that the Ministry of Health was allegedly not aware that the consignments containing these essential medicines from the Arab Republic of Egypt had not been delivered to ZAMMSA and that they were being kept at a private depot in Lusaka. It was also found that ZAMMSA did not inform the Ministry of Health regarding any challenges faced in the shipment of the consignment.

We have established that ZAMMSA was aware of the consignments and was given alerts regarding the departure of the containers from the Arab Republic of Egypt and their consequent arrival at the port of Beira in Mozambique and Chirundu Border in Zambia.

We therefore wish to establish why there was negligence on the part of ZAMMSA management, who appeared unprepared to receive the goods at their warehouse despite knowing beforehand the shipment schedules. Additionally, there was a lack of supervision by ZAMMSA as well as the Ministry of Health, as none of them made follow-ups on the consignment over the last seven (7) months.

In this regard, a full-scale forensic investigation is underway at ZAMMSA. This investigation will involve a multi-agency team to unearth any illegalities that may have occurred, ensuring comprehensive accountability and rectification.

This statement aims to provide clarity, reassurance, and transparency regarding the steps being taken to address the concerns raised. We believe that its in the interest of all well-meaning Zambians to see that integrity and functionality at ZAMMSA is restored. The ongoing investigations will continue to be conducted with utmost transparency and in accordance with the law. We urge the public to support these efforts as we work towards a more accountable and efficient healthcare system.

We would also like to implore stakeholders and other entities involved to desist from issuing statements or engaging the media over this particular matter as doing so will jeopardize our investigations. We thank you all.

MULEYA’S MURDER WAS INSIDE JOB FROM IBA INVESTIGATIONS HAVE REVEALED

MULEYA’S MURDER WAS INSIDE JOB FROM IBA INVESTIGATIONS HAVE REVEALED

THE brutal murder of Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) director general Guntila Muleya is an inside job financed by his workmates, according to latest information.

After failing to arrive home from work on Tuesday, Muleya’s body was discovered at Palabana NAPSA Housing on the gravel road with two bullet wounds on the back and head on Wednesday morning.

According to police, a closer examination revealed a deep bullet wound on the forehead.

Muleya’s murder sent shockwaves across the country and sparked widespread calls for his killers’ arrest.

This morning, Zambia Police Service spokesperson Rae Hamoonga announced the arrest of four people in connection with Muleya’s murder.

Without giving the identities of those apprehended, Hamoonga revealed that two of them are regular police officers while the other is a reserve police and the fourth is a civilian.

Hamoonga said besides the arrest of four, police have also recovered a Pajero belonging to Muleya from the suspects.

Other items confiscated from the suspects apart from Muleya’s vehicle are two motor vehicles, money totaling to K129, 300, gadgets and flash disks.

The quartet was also disarmed of three firearms  among them two pistols and an AK-47 rifle, including a collection of knives.

Hamoonga said investigations are angoing and the public will be informed about the outcome soon as premature disclosure of critical information may compromise the ongoing investigations.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to the public for their cooperation and support during this investigation,” said Hamoonga.

“Our sincere condolences go out to the family of Mr. Guntila Muleya and the members of staff at the Independent Broadcasting Authority during this difficult time.”

Meanwhile, impeccable police sources who are close to the investigations have told Kalemba that Muleya’s misfortune was financed by people within the IBA.

“Upon his appointment, the gentleman instituted corruption investigations within the organisation and some people were not happy. So they hired someone to abduct him and break his legs so that he would go on a long sick leave,” the source told Kalemba.

“So this guy who is just a civilan who got the contact to do the job subcontracted the police officers to do the dirty work. Unfortunately, Mr Muleya recognised one of the officers and they decided to kill him to avoid being identified,” the source added.

The source further shared that according to the investigations carried out so far, the person who pulled the trigger to kill Muleya was a member of Scorpion Squad who operates from Lusaka Central Police and is a young brother of a prominent Lusaka lawyer.

“The other cop operates from Chelstone Police Station while the other is just a reserve. We are still working and more arrests will be made, said the source.

FIRE SILVIA MASEBO AND ALL THOSE UNDER INVESTIGATIONS-LESLIE MBULA

Mbula urges Hichilema to strengthen anti-corruption measures

AMB.LESLIE MBULA has called on President Hakainde Hichilema to strengthen measures in the fight against corruption, emphasising the need for support from all Zambians to achieve desired results.

Addressing the media yesterday, OCIDA founding trustee Ambassador Leslie Mbulo praised President Hichilema’s consistent stance on zero tolerance against corruption but noted that achieving significant progress requires collective effort.

“The President has been consistent in his fight against corruption but will likely not achieve the desired results if he is not supported by all citizens because of the complexity of the vice,” Mbulo stated.

OCIDA expressed concern over the lengthy duration of corruption case resolutions and urged the President to expedite these processes.

“Cases of corruption are taking longer than necessary to conclude. It is critical that these cases must be concluded quickly so that those who betrayed the people’s trust can be made to pay,” Mbulo said.

The association also emphasised the need for legal reforms, particularly the enactment of subsidiary legislation on asset declaration to enhance transparency.

“Asset declaration is a good practice to enhance transparency. However, there is a need for an enabling law in this direction,” Mbulo explained.

Meanwhile, OCIDA called for the appointment of a substantive Director General and a new board at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to ensure the fight against corruption is not derailed.

“Corruption is a cancer that must be fought at all costs,” Mbulo asserted.

Additionally, OCIDA urged President Hichilema to initiate dialogue with opposition political parties to foster unity and address the country’s challenges, including the drought situation.

“Dialogue is an important ingredient of democracy. All stakeholders should be brought together to find solutions to challenges such as load shedding and the food deficit,” Mbulo said.

The association also highlighted the need for thorough investigations into the disbursement of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to prevent misuse and ensure accountability.

“We call upon citizens to take a keen interest in this fund. Government should support local initiatives by building capacities for monitoring and evaluating programs and projects in their respective constituencies,” added Mbulo.

OASIS FORUM STATEMENT ON DIALOGUE BETWEEN HIS EXCELLENCY PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA AND FORMER PRESIDENT EDGAR C. LUNGU

OASIS FORUM STATEMENT ON DIALOGUE BETWEEN HIS EXCELLENCY PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA AND FORMER PRESIDENT EDGAR C. LUNGU

The Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ), the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ), the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ), the Non-governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) and the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) collectively referred to as the Oasis Forum took note of President Hakainde Hichilema’s offer to reach out to his predecessor, Edgar C. Lungu for possible dialogue.

The Oasis Forum has noted the olive branch gesture by President Hakainde Hichilema expressing his willingness to reconcile with the Sixth Republican President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu. We do not doubt that President Edgar Lungu as a Statesman will be more than glad to put the country first and reconcile with the Head of State over the real or perceived differences.

Members of the public may recall that on 3rd June 2024, the Oasis Forum, did, among many other pertinent issues, call for dialogue between the Republican President and his predecessor to quell the political tension that is brewing in the Country. We were therefore glad to note that during the commemoration of the J 25 years of the Reformed Church in Zambia, President Hichilema committed that he would do his part to reach out to his colleagues in the opposition, including former President, Edgar C. Lungu. This was after the Reformed Church in Zambia echoed our call for national dialogue between the two leaders. While we know political opponents may seldom agree on many fronts, we equally believe that what unites us as Zambians, is far better and bigger than any political differences, political aspirations, or political party, let alone any individual. Therefore, our leaders in government and opposition, are duty-bound to take responsibility towards the need to unite the nation at all costs.

Further, as Zambia turns 60 this year, we must demonstrate progress as a  nation and reflect on better ways to chart the course for mother Zambia. History is replete with lessons on how political deadlocks and acrimony among prominent and leading political players robbed the nation of socio-economic and political development. What is even more disheartening about political differences is that it is the poor and marginalized groups such as women, persons with disabilities, children, the aged and the chronically ill who tend to suffer the worst consequences of any instability. As such we should learn from history but most importantly, let us be seen to live by our motto “One Zambia, One Nation”.

In view of the foregoing, the Oasis Forum hereby notifies both parties thus, the Republican President Mr. Hakainde Hichilema and former President Mr. Edgar Lungu, of our availability to facilitate the mediation, at their earliest convenience. Both President Hichilema and President Lungu should put the country firstahead of all else.

I Thank You

Name the Ministers Under Probe

..so far the ACC has named Livingstone Mayor, Ms. Constance Nalishebo Muleabai, Socitor General, Marshal Muchende as being under probe but refuses to name Ministers…

● “We cannot allow Law Enforcement Agencies to establish double standards where different category of persons and Zambians are more equal than others or perceived as priviliged before the law.”

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba wrote;

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Acting Director General, Monica Chipanta-Mwansa, confirmed that the Commission was investigating some Cabinet Ministers. She refused to name them.

However Mrs. Chipanta-Mwansa proceeded to name Livingstone Mayor, Ms. Constance Nalishebo Muleabai and former Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ronald Simwiinga as among persons the Commission was investigating.

Last week, the ACC confirmed that the investigations against Solicitor General Marshal Muchende SC, were advanced.

In Parliament, Vice President W.K.Mutale Nalumango said the ACC will not name the Ministers under probe.

However, we are aware, and to our knowledge, of those Ministers that have been summoned before, interviewed and some are under “Warn & Caution” statements. These include Minister of Agriculture, Hon.Reuben Mutolo, Minister of Livestock and Fisheries ( formerly Energy), Hon.Peter Kapala, Minister of Lands ( formerly Minister of Health), Hon.Silvia Masebo, Minister of Science and Technology, Hon.Felix Mutati and Copperbelt Minister, Hon.Elisha Matambo.

We are also aware of a number Permanent Secretaries and other senior government officials that have been summoned by the ACC and the Drug Enforcement Commission’s Anti-Money Laundering Unit.

Under normal circumstances, Law Enforcement Agencies are not expected to name names until investigations have reached advanced stage and the agencies are ready to record a “Warn and Caution” statement or effect an Arrest.

However, in the recent past, these Law Enforcement Agencies have been at the forefront and notorious on naming persons of interests, especially Ministers and officials from the previous government. Even a mere a call-out is regularly widely publicized.

Therefore the Anti-Corruption Commission has a diligent duty to name those it’s pursuing.

This is to enable transparency, fairness and to enable both the President and the Secretary to Cabinent to invoke provisions or regulations to suspend or fire those being investigated so that they do not interfere with evidence.

We cannot allow Law Enforcement Agencies to establish double standards where different category of persons and Zambians are more equal than others or perceived as priviliged before the law.

The principle of Equality before the Law requires a systematic rule of law that observes due process to provide equal justice, and requires equal protection ensuring that no individual nor group of individuals be privileged over others.

Fighting corruption is a serious matter and cannot be conducted in a casual, flippant and mischievous manner as the ACC is doing…Ukutamfya Mumbwe ne nseko…nawo Mumbwe aleseka!

Why Are the Ministers Being Investigated Not Being Named?

…as Vice President Nalumango Dodges Question…

Lusaka, 26th July, 2024

Nakonde MP Lukas Simumba raised a pressing question to the Vice-President regarding the government’s approach to fighting corruption. Hon. Simumba highlighted the issue of transparency, pointing out that while the name of the Livingstone mayor under investigation was publicly disclosed, the names of certain ministers under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) remain undisclosed.

“Yesterday, the ACC mentioned that some ministers are being investigated, yet their names were not disclosed. We only saw that the name of the Livingstone mayor was mentioned. Why are the names of those ministers being investigated not being revealed?” Hon. Simumba asked.

He further inquired whether the ACC’s relocation to State House was intended to shield these ministers from public scrutiny.

Responding to Hon. Simumba’s question, the Vice-President emphasized the need for a balanced approach to corruption investigations, stating that publicizing the names of individuals under investigation could compromise the integrity of the process.

“Investigation is not meant to be public. If they are investigating me, they should tell me directly. Announcing investigations prematurely allows those under scrutiny to cover their tracks,” she explained.

The Vice-President reiterated that investigation is a crucial step in gathering evidence. Only when substantial, admissible evidence is found should arrests be made. “You can’t start arresting people just because they are being investigated. What if it turns out that the suspicions are unfounded?” she questioned.

However, many Zambians have reacted negatively to the Vice President’s response, stating that she too is shielding the said ministers. They pointed out the inconsistency in disclosing the mayor’s name while concealing the ministers’ names.

“Everyday, for purposes of investigation, the former First Lady is called out, and they name her. Opposition leaders who are being investigated are even arrested before the investigation is done! But when it comes to the ministers, we are told that names can’t be given. Yet, in the same statement, the mayor is named. Stop playing with Zambians! Don’t think we are fools,” said Mulundika.

This exchange in parliament and the subsequent reaction from Zambians underscores the ongoing debate about transparency and due process in the fight against corruption in Zambia.

THERE IS A MAP FOR YOU, MR PRESIDENT- Hon. Mutotwe Kafwaya

THERE IS A MAP FOR YOU, MR PRESIDENT

Hon.Mutotwe Kafwaya wrote;

I must admit that I am partial to leadership advice from people who are either doing it or have done it before. And I would not commit this to paper if I didn’t experience it. That is perhaps the reason I am more inclined to listening to ECL more than anyone living in Zambia today on the subject of leadership.

And so I arrived in Ambleside with a friend of mine. We were in a second degree residence class. There we found a lot of other international students who arrived from various parts of the world. And just to be truthful, we were late by over an hour on our first day because we got lost the previous evening. Instead of heading straight to Ambleside, we strayed into Lancaster and spent a night there at the old station B&B.

And in the morning of our first day, we travelled on a metered taxi to our destination. £40 wasn’t much for the two of us. As we arrived in an impeccably organized class, the first thing that wise professor asked each one of us was to stick a pin on our respective hometowns on a map stuck on the wall.

So I searched for Zambia, then found northern province, I could see Mporokoso but couldn’t find Kapatu Mission and later on Kafwayas Village. But I stuck my pin somewhere there. We all did the same. At the time I didn’t have a good phone to take a clear image of the pinned map. But I can be honest and say the map had pins all around.

As we progressed in our studies, the professor continued to remind us that culture was important, but diversity had come to stay. “Adaptation and agility was key to survival in fast paced world. Embrace people from a diverse of cultures and accept their diversity. If you doubt, looked at the pinned map. All the cultures represented on it by all those pins will have a graduate with skills offered in this course if they did well.” The professor told us. Of course I did graduated.

This is a map I’d like to bring to our state house today. And I will simplify it by removing all other countries of the world but Zambia and it’s provinces and districts. Then ask each of the people serving at state house including the president that they should stick a pin on where the come from. Then the president would get a sense of diversity at his work station.

Can we do the same for all the people benched at cabinet office in holding position. What about permanent secretaries, parastatal heads and directors? If we wish we could also do the same for all new recruits in the defense forces, secret service and Zambia police service.

If the pins spread out evenly across the districts of our Republic, then we could be proud of our belief in diversity and we would speak about national unity without thinking of ourselves as hypocrites.

This is a practical assessment tool which I could use in my leadership inquiry on this subject. I learned it from a professor who knows, and I do think that it works.

Happy Sabbath.

Restoring EVERYTHING PATRIOTIC.

Social media reports suggesting that HH held a caucus with the UPND MPs at which they discussed constitutional amendments are not only false but outrageous- BATUKE IMENDA

*STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*

_Imenda cautions about lies_

Friday, 26 July 2024

*LUSAKA* – Social media reports suggesting that His Excellency Mr Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia, held a caucus with the UPND members of Parliament at which they discussed constitutional amendments are not only false but outrageous.

Such lies peddled by purveyors of falsehood are a clear betrayal of freedom of expression that the President has strongly championed for years.

Whilst there was a meeting at State House, at no point was there a discussion concerning immunity of former President Edgar Lungu or indeed that of MPs who have been convicted by the courts of law.

It is a tradition for the President and the vice-president who is also Leader of government business in parliament and the top party leadership to have meetings with all Members of Parliament of the party whenever parliament resumes sitting or goes on recess.

The members of Parliament through their chief whip raised various issues of concern.

The constitutional issues  or challenges that were read by Kabwe Central Member of Parliament Mrs Phiri on behalf of all the members of Parliament were among others, on the delimitation of the constituencies to which the President was candid and told the MPs that his office has no powers to bring any changes bordering on the constitution, which is solely a responsibility for parliament.

On non-constitutional issues he told the MPs that there are government department such as Electoral Commission of Zambia that are vested with the powers to carry out such an exercises.

We want to make it abundantly clear that the President respects the rule of law and would never interfere in the legislative process nor the solemn duty of the judiciary.

The Head of State  emphasized on the need for members of parliament to spend more time in their respective constituencies with the electorate.

He advised the lawmakers to ensure full utilization of the Constituency Develeopment Fund, which is creating an indelible impact on the lives of majority Zambians.

It is, therefore, mischievous for anyone to deliberately mislead Zambians, especially on constitutional issues.

While the freedom of expression is enshrined in the Constitution, we would like to urge citizens to exercise it responsibly instead of engaging in falsehoods that have potential to cause discord in the country.

We take great exception to falsehood as it can have far-reaching consequences, including serving prison sentences by the perpetrators.

Citizens are also reminded that unbridled lies, as this case is, have potential to disrupt the peace we have long enjoyed, and the progress the UPND government has made on many fronts of our national endeavour.

The President is fully committed to turning around the economy left in ruins by the kleptocratic regime of the Patriotic Front.

This is in the midst of adverse climatic conditions that have caused an unprecedented drought.

President Huchilema and his government are more concerned with providing food for citizens, giving free education to millions of children, improved healthcare and living standards for all citizens.

The UPND government shall not be drawn into cheap political propaganda by sworn enemies of development and progress.
I would like to advise the opposition to learn to resolve their own organizational issues without maligning the ruling party.

In that regard, we urge Zambians to ignore the reported outcomes of the meeting.

God bless the Republic of Zambia

Don’t Develop Two Systems to Apply to the Same Citizens, Says Lunte MP Mutotwe Kafwaya

…as he challenges the President to name the ministers in his government that are under investigation by the ACC…

Lusaka, 26th July, 2024

Lunte Member of Parliament Mutotwe Kafwaya has voiced strong criticism against perceived double standards in the handling of public officials accused of misconduct.

Speaking at a press conference, Hon. Kafwaya urged the government and investigative bodies to uphold uniformity and fairness in their operations.

Hon. Kafwaya’s remarks came in the wake of several high-profile incidents involving the arrest and detention of civil servants and the Auditor General, alongside the resignation of a prominent Director General.

He pointed out inconsistencies in how different individuals are treated, particularly criticizing the selective application of the law on citizens.

“The DG resigns, the board is dissolved, and a management letter released by auditors is ignored. You harassed auditors and arrested the Auditor General along with several civil servants over allowances. Some of them have been secretly released and are back at the Ministry of Finance, while others remain detained,” Hon. Kafwaya stated. “This selective justice is not governance. It’s segregation of the highest order. All people must be subjected to the same rules.”

Hon. Kafwaya also called out the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for their lack of transparency.

He challenged the ACC to disclose the names of ministers currently under investigation and the specific allegations against them.

“ACC, you are investigating ministers but have not mentioned who those ministers are, claiming it’s to protect their integrity. What integrity is there when you are appearing at ACC? Why were you writing letters if you are concerned about integrity?” Hon. Kafwaya questioned. “Even the health worker’s case was announced. Why is there a double standard for those arrested over allowances? Don’t develop two systems for the same citizens. This is causing anarchy in the nation.”

Hon. Kafwaya’s impassioned plea underscores the necessity for a just and consistent approach in dealing with all public officials, regardless of their position. He emphasized that maintaining public trust requires equal application of the law and transparency in government operations.

“I challenge the ACC to name the ministers and the offences they are facing. If the ACC fails to do so, let the President name them. These are public workers, and the public deserves to know. We need to ensure that all citizens are treated equally under the law,” Kafwaya concluded.

How come there is money to steal yet no money for medicine – questions Mpika Member of Parliament

…as Calls for Accountability and Action in Zambia’s Fight Against Corruption….

Lusaka, 26 July, 2024

Amidst growing concerns over corruption and the management of public resources, a call for greater accountability and action has been made by Mpika Mp, highlighting the urgent need for systemic changes to ensure fair and transparent governance.

In a recent statement, Mpika Mp Hon. Francis Kapyanga voiced frustration over the perceived selective enforcement of anti-corruption measures, which appear to target political opponents rather than addressing corruption across all levels of government.

“The fact that there is corruption must be generated and it must affect everyone involved,” Mp emphasized. “If a ruling party’s youth member is involved in fraudulent activities, it is a clear manifestation of corruption.”

One of the most pressing issues raised is the lack of immediate action against those implicated in corrupt practices. The Mp cited a recent incident involving a ruling party youth member who allegedly sold property fraudulently, leading to violent confrontations. Despite these serious allegations, no firings or investigations have been initiated.

“If you genuinely want to fight corruption, the people involved in every corrupt act must first be fired, then investigated, so that investigations can smoothly run,” Mp argued.

Hon. Kapyanga also pointed out the stark contrast between the availability of funds for personal enrichment and the lack of resources for essential development projects.

“How come there is money for stealing, and there is no money for development?” The Mp questioned.

Hon. Kapyanga has since called on Zambian citizens to prepare for the 2026 elections by registering to vote and actively participating in the electoral process.

“Every youth, every woman, every man must register as a voter today and start dusting their voters’ cards now,” Mp urged. “Come 2026, on voting day, everyone in their numbers should go and vote to bring about the change needed.”

He further called for action extended to civil society organizations, particularly Transparency International, and other key stakeholders, including labor movements and the church. Mp emphasized their crucial role in providing oversight and advocating for the Zambian people.

“You have a duty to help the Zambian people oversight those charged with the responsibility to manage the nation’s affairs,” the MP said.

As Zambia grapples with high poverty levels and increasing allegations of grand corruption, the demand for transparency, accountability, and active civic engagement has never been more urgent. The figures alleged to have been stolen are described as “heartbreaking,” particularly in the context of widespread poverty.

In concluding his statement, the Mp expressed gratitude to those committed to fighting corruption and urged continued vigilance and action.

“The figures being revealed are shocking, and this is happening at a time when poverty levels are very high. We must all work together to ensure that our leaders are held accountable and that resources are used for the benefit of all Zambians.”

POLICE STATEMENT: ALLEGED ABDUCTION CASE OF KABULONGA GIRLS SECONDARY SCHOOL PUPILS

POLICE STATEMENT: ALLEGED ABDUCTION CASE OF KABULONGA GIRLS SECONDARY SCHOOL PUPILS

The Zambia Police Service through Woodlands Police Station today, Friday, July 26, 2024, at around 11:00 hours, conducted a follow-up investigation into an alleged case of abduction at Kabulonga Girls Secondary School.

The facts of the matter are as follows: On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at approximately 08:00 hours, the Deputy Head Teacher of Kabulonga Girls Secondary School, Mr. Gershom Mumba, aged 46, residing at House Number 64 Kabulonga Twinpalm, was approached by a concerned parent, Mr. Nchikulo Mwansa.

Mr. Mwansa reported that his daughter, a pupil at Kabulonga Girls Secondary School, would not be able to attend classes due to an incident that occurred the previous day, Monday, July 22, 2024.

According to the pupil’s account, on Monday, as they knocked off at around 15:20 hours, she and some other pupils willingly boarded a bus at the Kabulonga bus stop heading to Mtendere. The bus initially failed to start, but after being pushed, it began moving. However, the bus took an unexpected route, raising the pupils’ suspicions. When questioned about their destination, the driver provided unsatisfactory answers, prompting the pupils to jump out of the bus one by one as it slowed down. All the pupils managed to get off the bus.

The Headmistress and Deputy Head Teacher have confirmed that none of the pupils were abducted, as they have been consistently reporting to school since the incident. The registration number of the Hiace bus involved in the incident is ABL 1403. Investigations conducted at the Road Transport and Safety Agency have revealed that this motor vehicle has no valid road license or road fitness certificate.

We can not rule out the possibility that the driver was attempting to evade police presence on the usual route to Mtendere. Consequently, we have launched a search for the minibus to ensure that the driver or the owner faces the necessary fines for operating a motor vehicle without road tax and a road fitness certificate.

The Zambia Police Service would like to assure the public that the safety of our children remains a top priority. We urge the public to avoid spreading false information that may cause unnecessary panic and fear. Any concerns regarding the safety and well-being of pupils should be reported to the nearest police station or through official channels for prompt action.
