M’MEMBE LABELS UPND’S FOUR YEARS IN OFFICE AS “FAILED TENURE”

SP LABELS UPND’S FOUR YEARS IN OFFICE AS “FAILED TENURE”

….says the cost of living in the country has skyrocketed

Lusaka… Wednesday August 27, 2025 – Socialist Party President Dr. Fred M’membe has described the four years of the UPND in office as a “failed tenure.”

Dr. M’membe has argued that the promises that were made by the UPND have not been translated into reality.

He laments that the cost of living in the country has skyrocketed.

He claimed that people rarely see electricity as they leave their houses and return back home without power.

The Sociality Party leader said this when he featured on The Socialist Hour radio programme on Hot FM in Lusaka.

“The promises of 2021 have not been translated into reality. People don’t feel the changes that were promised. If they have been delivered, people would feel it. Instead of cheaper mealie meal, we have record breaking prices, instead of having jobs, we have more youths rooming the streets, instead of free education, we have overcrowded classrooms without teachers and books,” he said.

“What the people got was a slogan ‘Kwenyu’ while their pockets were emptier. The truth is the promises of the UPND have failed to transform the lives of the people of Zambia. There is no positive impact on the lives of our people. The living conditions of our people have really deteriorated.”

Dr. M’membe has also asserted that people are living in fear as they are scared to talk freely for fear of being arrested.

LUNGU FAMILY: GOVERNMENT CANNOT TREAT A PRESIDENT AS A TROPHY

LUNGU FAMILY: GOVERNMENT CANNOT TREAT A PRESIDENT AS A TROPHY

By Brian Matambo – 27 August 2025

The widow and children of Zambia’s late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu have vowed not to surrender his dignity to a government they accuse of persecuting him in life and mocking him in death.

Speaking from South Africa in an exclusive interview with Diamond TV, family lawyer and former Eastern Province Minister Hon. Makebi Zulu blasted the High Court ruling that handed control of the burial to the state.

“That judgment suggested that a president is a government trophy, with the family reduced to mere spectators. We reject that notion completely,” Zulu declared.

He confirmed that Cabinet Secretary Patrick Kangwa has reached out, but stressed that no real talks have begun and trust remains shattered. “Government propaganda against the family continues,” he said, adding that any true negotiation must first recognize the family’s rights and stop the public attacks.

Zulu reminded Zambians that the same administration which stripped Lungu of his retirement benefits, restricted his travel, and harassed his family, now insists on celebrating him in death.

“You cannot dishonor a man while alive and then pretend to honor him once he is gone. That is hypocrisy of the highest order,” he said.

For the Lungu family, the conditions are clear: any send-off must be defined by the family’s wishes, not by government spin. Anything less, Zulu warned, will not be acceptable.

As Zambia watches the legal battle move to higher courts, the case is no longer about funeral protocol alone. It has become a test of whether the state respects family rights, whether it will stop persecuting those tied to Edgar Lungu, and whether President Hakainde Hichilema’s government is willing to offer true dignity instead of hollow ceremony.

President Njobvu assures HH of protection after elections

By Francis Chipalo

Democratic Union (DU)  president Ackim Antony Njobvu has assured republican President Hakainde Hichilema of total protection once he loses the 2026 general elections.

Njobvu, who recently projected that they would be gnashing of teeth by UPND members should the opposition Tonse alliance scoop the elections, has assured President Hichilema that he has nothing to worry about after next year’s elections.

The outspoken politician further urged Zambians to rally behind the DU being a sober political grouping that aim to among others,  unite the opposition and ruling for the continued national peace.

He said voting for either UPND or PF and its alliance would bring more hatred and problems in the country.

“To my brother,  President Hakainde Hichilema, I want to assure that once you hand over power to the Democratic Union in 2026, you will fully be protected,” he said.

The opposition leader has however expressed confidence that there would be a smooth and peaceful transition of power in 2026 from the UPND to the DU.

“You have nothing to fear, for we believe in peaceful transition, respect, and safeguarding the dignity of all leaders,” he added.

He further said the DU aims to restore dignity,  hope and prosperity for all.

“My commitment to you people of Zambia is that once you vote for the Democratic Union,  you are assured of real change and meaningful development that we have been crying for, because the DU is a whole different political project from others, ” he added.

ELECTIONS 2026: Opposition and Ruling Party Both Have Clear Paths to Victory

ELECTIONS 2026

…..Opposition and Ruling Party Both Have Clear Paths to Victory

By Augustine Mwewa for Bahati MP 2026 & Beyond

As Zambia approaches the 2026 general elections, the 2021 ECZ voter registration data provides critical insight into how both the ruling party and the opposition can carve paths to victory. With 7,023,499 registered voters, the balance of power is delicately spread across regional strongholds, swing provinces, and decisive urban areas.

Opposition Swing Base

According to ECZ figures, the provinces of Eastern (896,339 registered voters), Luapula (567,003), Muchinga (401,658), and Northern (606,346) together account for 2,471,346 voters. These provinces have historically swung between ruling and opposition candidates depending on alliances and candidate appeal. If consolidated, the opposition could gain a strong head start, securing as much as 1.5 million votes from this block

Ruling Party Strongholds

The ruling party’s traditional bastions remain Southern (782,067 voters), North Western (386,677), Western (447,293), and Central (666,600). Together, these add up to 2,282,637 voters, providing a dependable and historically consistent base. Even with voter turnout fluctuations, these provinces typically deliver large margins for the ruling party.

The Urban Deciders

The real battleground, however, lies in the highly urbanized provinces of Lusaka (1,243,619 registered voters) and the Copperbelt (1,025,897). With a combined 2,269,516 voters, they hold the deciding power. In 2021, swings in Lusaka and Copperbelt proved crucial to the outcome, reflecting the weight of youth voices, urban frustrations, unemployment, and cost of living concerns.

Winning Formula: Opposition

To win in 2026, the opposition would need to:

Consolidate Eastern, Luapula, Muchinga, and Northern.

Capture 55–60% of Lusaka and Copperbelt (~1.2–1.3 million votes).

Reduce the ruling party’s dominance in Central and Western to at least 30–40% support.

This formula would give the opposition a combined total of 3.2–3.5 million votes, enough to secure the 50% + 1 threshold.

Winning Formula: Ruling Party

For the ruling party, retaining power depends on:

Maintaining dominance in Southern, Western, North Western, and Central.

Preventing the opposition from sweeping Northern, Muchinga, and Luapula.

Holding Lusaka and Copperbelt by minimizing opposition margins or splitting the vote.

A strong showing in its bases combined with competitive results in the two urban provinces would give the ruling party a secure path to re-election.

Challenges and Opportunities

Opposition Challenge: Risk of disunity and split votes if multiple candidates run.

Ruling Party Challenge: Rising cost of living, unemployment, and urban frustrations could erode Lusaka and Copperbelt support.

Opportunities: Opposition can capitalize on youth and urban mobilization, while the ruling party can rely on rural machinery and consistent structures.

Conclusion

The 2021 ECZ voter register shows a finely balanced electoral map. With the opposition holding 2.47M swing voters, the ruling party securing 2.28M stronghold voters, and the decisive 2.27M voters in Lusaka and Copperbelt, Zambia’s 2026 elections are set to be fiercely contested.

Both sides have clear but narrow paths to victory. Ultimately, unity, alliances, and performance on economic issues—especially in urban areas—will decide who occupies State House.

THE PEOPLE’S ALLIANCE FOR CHANGE TO CONVENE NATIONAL CONVENTION ON THURSDAY, 4TH SEPTEMBER 2025

THE PEOPLE’S ALLIANCE FOR CHANGE TO CONVENE NATIONAL CONVENTION ON THURSDAY, 4TH SEPTEMBER 2025

In the course of recent months, the People’s Alliance for Change (PAC) has undertaken a solemn and far-reaching engagement with patriotic citizens and fellow opposition parties. These consultations have been guided not by expediency, but by principle-by a steadfast determination to chart a course worthy of Zambia’s enduring promise.

This has been no ordinary undertaking. It has required of us a rigorous self-examination, a reawakening of purpose, and a recommitment to the ideals that first called us to public service. We have not sought comfort, nor popularity, but truth-and the greater good of our Republic.

Zambia stands today at a moment of profound consequence. The erosion of public trust, the weakening of our institutions, and the quiet despair felt by many demand not platitudes, but action. They call for leadership that is sober in judgment, resolute in character, and unwavering in its devotion to the rule of law and the dignity of every citizen.

To our members and supporters, whose patience and loyalty have sustained us through this crucible of reflection, we offer our deepest gratitude. Your faith has been our compass, your courage our strength.

True to its name, the People’s Alliance for Change has never been a mere political entity. It is a movement born of conviction, forged in the aspirations of ordinary Zambians, and anchored in the belief that national renewal must begin with integrity, unity, and an unrelenting focus on the people.

While we remain open to opposition collaboration, we shall not barter principle for convenience. Any alliance must be built not on fleeting interests, but on shared values, mutual respect, and an unshakable commitment to placing the people above politics.

In pursuit of this vision, PAC has conducted nationwide consultations with community leaders, civil society, and political stakeholders. These engagements have culminated in a decision of great importance: the convening of our second National Convention.

On the 4th of September 2025, the People’s Alliance for Change shall gather to ratify key resolutions and renew our leadership mandate as we prepare to contest the August 2026 general elections. This convention shall not merely mark a procedural milestone-it shall herald a new chapter in our national story.

To every Zambian who believes in the power of unity, the necessity of accountability, and the promise of genuine transformation-we extend an invitation. Walk with us. Stand with us. Build with us.
For in the hands of the People, through the strength of our Alliance with the citizenry, lies the power to shape enduring Change-for a Zambia that shall rise, steadfast and renewed.

DEC nabs ex-MoH PS, ZAMMSA officials in drug procurement scandal

DEC nabs ex-MoH PS, ZAMMSA officials in drug procurement scandal

THE Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested former Acting Permanent Secretary for Administration at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Sivah Kachimba, together with senior officials from the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) and directors of private companies, in relation to alleged procurement malpractices in the health sector.

https://www.facebook.com/share/198zGDTEzr/?mibextid=wwXIfr

The arrests, confirmed this morning at a press briefing  in Lusaka, are part of the Commission’s ongoing investigations into alleged corruption, forgery, money laundering and abuse of authority in the management of medical supplies.

DEC director general Nason Banda said the fresh arrests bring the number of people implicated in the matter to 10, following four earlier arrests of top ZAMMSA and Ministry of Health officials earlier this year.

Dr. Kachimba is accused of willfully failing to follow laid-down procedures in the awarding of contracts at the Ministry of Health.

At ZAMMSA, procurement specialist Japhet Phiri has been charged with forgery and uttering false documents, while senior procurement officers Sipho Banda and Chanda Napanje are accused of conspiring to commit a felony.

Napanje is also facing additional charges of forgery and uttering false documents.

From the private sector, the Commission charged Godfrey Kabengele, a director at Mukushi Business Venture, with dealing in allied substances without a pharmaceutical license and for money laundering.

Another businessman, Kankomba Kakompe, who runs Lumumba Pharmaceuticals, is facing charges of obtaining pecuniary advantage by false pretences and money laundering.

His co-accused, Nchimunya Collins Habadu is still on the run and is wanted for obtaining pecuniary advantage by false pretences as well as forgery and uttering false documents.

Banda said the Commission’s aim is not only to bring suspects before the courts but also to help government revisit policy direction in the management of medical supply services.

He stressed that reforms are necessary to prevent a recurrence of what he described as long-standing irregularities that have undermined the health sector.

Earlier this year, DEC also arrested Victor Nyasulu, former ZAMMSA Director General; Nalishebo Siyandi, former Director of Supply Planning at ZAMMSA; Benjamin Nsenje, a former Ministry of Health finance manager; and Collins Nchimunya Habad, former ZAMMSA Director of Procurement.

In a separate development, the Commission revealed that it had successfully secured the forfeiture of several properties in Chirundu District believed to be proceeds of crime.

These include 9.5 hectares of land along the Zambezi River, 70 hectares of land near Chiwena School with structures, 10 hectares along the Siavonga Road, 43.1 hectares in Mwiingi Village along the Kafue River, and a 170-hectare farm near Zamtel Farm.

Investigations have further uncovered that the same owner acquired 2,000 hectares of land in Siavonga, which was later subdivided into 250-hectare plots and registered under various names, including company entities.

DEC further I ndicated that steps are being taken to also forfeit these properties to the state.

‘ECZ HAS NOT BARRED PF FROM BY-ELECTIONS”

‘ECZ HAS NOT BARRED PF FROM BY-ELECTIONS”

ELECTORAL Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has dismissed claims that it has barred the Patriotic Front (PF) from participating in by-elections.

The commission has also assured the nation that next year’s tripartite elections will be free and fair.

ECZ chief electoral officer Brown Kasaro said all that the electoral body has been requesting is that a candidate participating in a by-election in the name of a political party should present an adoption certificate signed by the office-bearers recognised by the Registrar of Societies.

“Now, why is this important? Remember that this person is coming from a political party and the commission needs to be sure that this candidate has been adopted by that political party,” Mr Kasaro said.

He said where an aspiring candidate from the PF has presented an adoption certificate duly signed by office-holders, the commission has proceeded to accept the nomination and placed such an individual on a ballot paper.

NJOBVU ASSURES HICHILEMA OF “SAFE HAVEN” AFTER 2026, URGES ZAMBIANS TO VOTE WISELY

NJOBVU ASSURES HICHILEMA OF “SAFE HAVEN” AFTER 2026, URGES ZAMBIANS TO VOTE WISELY

Democratic Union (DU) president Ackim Antony Njobvu has sent a clear and bold message to President Hakainde Hichilema: there is no need to fear handing over power after the 2026 general elections.

Speaking in Lusaka, Njobvu assured the president that the DU will protect him, just as a mother hen protects her chicks. “To my brother, President Hakainde Hichilema, I want to assure you that once you hand over power to the Democratic Union in 2026, you will be fully protected. There is absolutely nothing to fear,” Njobvu said.

The outspoken politician urged Zambians to rally behind the DU, describing it as a “sober political grouping” committed to national unity and peace. He warned that voting for either the ruling UPND or the Patriotic Front (PF) and its alliances would only breed more hatred and problems across the country.

“Just like a hen does not panic when her chicks wander, President Hichilema should hand over power without fear,” he added with a hint of humor. “We will watch over you, protect you, and make sure your legacy is respected.”

Njobvu further expressed confidence in a smooth and peaceful transition of power. “You have nothing to worry about. The Democratic Union believes in peaceful transitions, respect, and safeguarding the dignity of all leaders. President Hichilema, you can step down knowing you are safe,” he said.

In his message, Njobvu compared political leadership to parenting, drawing a human face to his pledge: “A parent nurtures, feeds, and protects their child. The Democratic Union will nurture Zambia’s people, feed hope, and protect the dreams of every citizen. We are not just another political party; we are a project with a heart.”

He concluded by assuring Zambians of meaningful change and development. “My commitment to the people of Zambia is that once you vote for the Democratic Union, you will experience real change and development that we have long been yearning for. The DU is a whole different political project, and President Hichilema, you have nothing to fear handing over power to us.”

NEW DAWN GOVERNMENT HAS DELIVERED ON MOST OF ITS PROMISES-MUFUZI

August 26, 2025

BRIAN MUNDUBILE AND GREYFORD MONDE ON ITEZHI TEZHI ROAD WHICH WAS NEVER DELIVERED

BRIAN MUNDUBILE AND GREYFORD MONDE ON ITEZHI TEZHI ROAD WHICH WAS NEVER DELIVERED
By Shalala Oliver Sepiso

In 2014, the PF government wanted to work on the D769 Itezhi-Tezhi to Mongu Road junction Road. This road had last been tarred in 1976 but its state deteriorated because it lacked maintenance. Build Trust Construction (Z) LTD was the company contracted to work on the road.

The question to Mr Mundubile is whether or not he owns shares in Build Trust Construction. However, a story on 13th February 2022 in The Mast newspaper entitled “I spend more on politics than the salary I get as an MP-Mundubile” said: “From there, we opened a construction company 20 years ago called Build Trust Construction Company. With discipline and hard work, the company grew to employing over 300 workers including whites.”

Anyway, since we know he owns the company, why was the Itezhi Tezhi Road not finished? What happened to the money meant for the road to be upgraded and finished? Did you Mr Mundubile get the road contracts because of your association with the past government in which you were Northern Province minister but continued getting business from the same government you served? Was that part of State Capture? Was the Itezhi Tezhi MP Greyford Monde aware of this deal and is this why he never raised issues why your company never performed its job under this contract?

The then Itezhi-Tezhi Member of Parliament was Greyford Monde, who is today looking like being propped up to stand to legitimatise the process of getting the likes of Mundubile into office as PF leader. I say so because Greyford was one of the last people to say he was going to stand for election at the convention that was to elect the PF president back in 2022/2023.

Just look at the list of PF candidates and see where they hail from and why Greyford in important to show legitimacy to the process of getting a new PF president (with Given Lubinda having not filed in papers and no one from Eastern Province having made a bid): 1. Emmanuel Mwamba, 2. Chishimba Kambwili, 3. Chitalu Chilufya, 4. Brian Mundubile, 5. Mutotwe Kafwaya, 6. Miles Sampa, 7. Greyford Monde, 8. Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) with SG at the time being Nickson Chilangwa.

The question is: Did you Mr Greyford Monde know anything about the deal for the Itezhi Tezhi Road? Is this why you are seen to be close to Mundubile? Why didn’t we see you the area member of parliament of Itezhi tezhi making noise about the contract of this important road and why it was not being worked on despite money being paid?

Lubinda’s statement on Tonse presidential candidate is a personal wish – Sean Tembo

Lubinda’s statement on Tonse presidential candidate is a personal wish – Sean Tembo

TONSE Alliance spokesperson Sean Tembo says Given Lubinda’s recent remarks that only a PF member can ascend to the alliance’s presidency were nothing but personal wishes.

Last Friday, during a TV interview, Lubinda, the stand in PF president declared that only PF members would be allowed to contest the Tonse Alliance presidency.

However, in an interview with Kalemba, Tembo responded that any statements uttered by Lubinda or any other Tonse Alliance member who is not the spokesperson of the alliance should not be taken seriously.

He said the alliance was a well established organisation that had systems and processes in place, especially when it comes to who communicates alliance business to the general public and the media.

“If any individual, other than the spokesperson of the Tonse Alliance makes a statement to do with the business of the Tonse Alliance, you should treat such statements as per individual opinions of the people that made the statement and not the representative of the official position of the Tonse Alliance… that includes any and all statements that are alleged to have been made by the PF acting president honourable Given Lubinda regarding who can be a presidential candidate in the Tonse Alliance,” said Tembo.

“All those statements should be treated as individual opinions of honourable Given Lubinda and not the official position of the Tonse Alliance.”

Tembo explained that the alliance remained open to communicating to the public when it is fit to do so.

“As and when the Tonse Alliance deliberates on that matter and if we see it necessary and fit to communicate to the general public, we are going to communicate through established channels and that is through the office of the Alliance spokesperson,” stated Tembo.

Lungu family confirms government has reached out for burial negotiations

Lungu family confirms government has reached out for burial negotiations

THE family of late former president Edgar Lungu has confirmed that government has formally reached out to them in a bid to open negotiations over the ongoing burial dispute.

https://www.facebook.com/share/1721nd52kQ/?mibextid=wwXIfr

In a statement issued by family spokesperson, lawyer Makebi Zulu, the Lungu family acknowledged that Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa has initiated contact with the family to begin formal dialogue.

Zulu stressed the need for trust on the matter of negotiations stating that when trust is broken, deliberate and genuine steps must be taken to rebuild it.

“We wish to acknowledge that Government through the Secretary to Cabinet Mr. Patrick Kangwa has approached the family to initiate formal negotiations.”

“We pray for sincerity and decency to prevail as the environment for suggested negotiations is being fostered in a hope for subsequent resolution of this matter,” stated Zulu.

This morning, the Constitutional Court of South Africa threw out the family’s direct application for appeal over the repatriation of Lungu’s body to Zambia.

The family had sought to bypass the Supreme Court of Appeal in order to have the dispute settled with finality, but the order means the case will follow the standard appeal process.

“The import of the order of the Constitutional Court is that the appeal must first lay to the Supreme Court of Appeal before the Constitutional Court could deal with it, in the event that any party desires to,” explained.

He said the appeal remains active under Section 18(1) of the Superior Courts Act, which allows the status quo to remain in place while the matter is before the courts.

According to Zulu, the family’s appeal rests on two key arguments that the High Court judgment in Pretoria effectively stripped them of all rights over the burial of their relative and secondly that the court wrongly held that Zambian law governs the burial of a former head of state despite no such law existing in Zambia.

“The essence of the appeal by the family is to assert family rights in relation to the burial of a loved one notwithstanding the position one held in life,” Zulu said.

“It is beyond contestation that the Judgment of the High Court and the orders therein suggested that the family had no rights whatsoever in relation to the burial of the late Former President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu. This is the position which the family disagrees with.”

He thanked Zambians and other well wishers who have stood with the family during what he described as a difficult period.

I don’t like Embassy Park but have no choice but to bury all presidents there – Hichilema

I don’t like Embassy Park but have no choice but to bury all presidents there – Hichilema

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has shared that he does not like Embassy Park but has no choice but to obey the laws of Zambia and have every president buried there.

The Head of State shared this with Zimbabw

ean second Vice President Kembo Mohadi in order to put context to the current impasse surrounding the burial of his predecessor.

“We have a tradition here, a legal one as well, established by the people of Zambia through different pieces of legislation. But also practice, that presidents, whether we like it or not, those of us who sit here get buried in Embassy Park. All the five presidents before, my predecessors are lying there. And we hope that we can continue that tradition, the decision made by the people of Zambia.

“If you ask me personally, do I like that place?  I don’t like it. But there’s limited choice that we have, once we take the decision to occupy this office,” he explained.

Meanwhile, President Hichilema revealed that government had sent representatives to South Africa to hold talks to the former First Family in order to have the late former president Edgar Lungu repatriated and buried in Zambia.

The President also asked the Zimbabwean government to help the Zambian government with putting closure to the matter.

“We hope to resolve the impasse. Our team is there, they are engaging the family and any support that we can get from family members such as yourselves, would be appreciated to help us put closure to this unfortunate situation,” said President Hichilema.

Hichilema Urges Africans to Abandon Witchcraft Beliefs and Embrace Science

Hichilema Urges Africans to Abandon Witchcraft Beliefs and Embrace Science

President Hakainde Hichilema has called on Africans to move away from traditional beliefs in witchcraft, stressing that such practices undermine progress and discourage people from embracing scientific solutions such as vaccination.

Speaking on the subject, the Head of State noted that misplaced beliefs consume valuable time and energy that should be directed toward development and problem-solving.

“I want to urge Africans to move away from these beliefs in witchcraft, which in turn reduce the utilization of vaccines and scientific solutions. These things take a lot of our brains, time, and intellectual grey matter, and we end up walking away from real solutions,” President Hichilema said.

The President highlighted that even in politics, irrational reliance on superstitious beliefs has been used as a tool of manipulation.

“I can tell you from politics, even within our own political party, we won elections against those who received a lot of so-called medical support in witchcraft, even at national level. Yet our focus should never be on superstition, but on real, lasting solutions for our people,” he added.

‘Why Me’ remains behind bars as State, his lawyers argue over bail

‘Why Me’ remains behind bars as State, his lawyers argue over bail

DESPITE the evidence of the offences he is charged with being all over social media, the Modern day ‘Lazarus’, Francis Kapwepwe alias ‘Why Me’ has joined Peter in the bible in ‘singing’ the deny ‘chorus’ after he pleaded not guilty to the three charges leveled against him.

But his hopes for a swift release on bail were stalled as the State sought more time to respond to the bail application.

The offences of the PF freedom fighter and insultious general relate to posts he made on his TikTok page, Why Me the Lion of the World, where he allegedly insulted Vice President Mutale Nalumango attacked residents of Southern Province, and even suggested that the region should be separated from Zambia.

He is charged with three counts of Hate Speech and Expressing or Showing Hatred, Ridicule or Contempt for Persons because of race, tribe, place of origin or color, contrary to Section 70(1) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Zambian laws.

It is alleged in the first count of hate speech that Kapwepwe on March 31, 2025, using a Computer System via his TikTok page called Why Me the Lion of the World, knowingly without lawful excuse used Hate Speech against the Tonga People, when he alleged that Vice President Mutale Nalumango had lost her senses for allowing President Hakainde Hichilema to move Tongas from Southern Province to Kaputa District in her home village without protesting and “was mute like a locust.”

Particulars in the the second count are that Kapwepwe on April 3,2025, used Hate Speech against People of Southern Province when he alleged that the President wanted to install his fellow Tonga Chief Mukuni as a King disregarding the four Senior Chiefs in the country and made a proposal that  Southern Province be separated from Zambia and given another name.

In the third Count Kapwepwe on April 8, 2025  on his TikTok page called Why Me the Lion of the World, uttered words that expressed hatred, ridicule or contempt for the people of Southern Province by likening them to men’s family jewels and morons.

During proceedings before Magistrate Andrew Mungala, Kapwepwe’s lawyer, Jonas Zimba, applied for bail and urged the court to consider that the accused was of a fixed abode and willing to meet any conditions imposed by the court.

Zimba argued that the offences faced by his client were bailable and cited the presumption of innocence under Article 18 of the Constitution.

“We apply for bail pending trial pursuant to section 133(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code. The court will note that the offences with which the accused is charged are bailable. The accused is of fixed abode and desirous to pursue his trial and can meet any conditions that the court may set.”

“My client, who is by Article 18 presumed innocent unless found guilty, is a proper candidate for bail,” he said.

The State, represented by Mukuma Chipawa, however decided  to delay the bail decision by requesting that their response be filed in writing.

Magistrate Mungala intervened to clarify procedural expectations.

“An application can be made viva voce or through affidavit. Rules of procedure make provision for applicants or respondents to either make viva voce or through affidavit. I order that the application be filed through affidavit in time to allow the defence to respond. I will give a day each.”

The State confirmed it would file its submissions today, while the defence indicated it would respond on Thursday.

September 4 has been set for ruling on the bail application, with the trial scheduled to commence on September 5 and 6, 2025.

FORMER PRESIDENT EDGAR LUNGU WAS A DEMOCRAT WHO WILLINGLY CONCEDED DEFEAT – MAKEBI ZULU

FORMER PRESIDENT EDGAR LUNGU WAS A DEMOCRAT WHO WILLINGLY CONCEDED DEFEAT – MAKEBI ZULU

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

The family of late former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has expressed concern over recent remarks made by President Hakainde Hichilema, describing them as an unfortunate to the legacy of the former Head of State.

In a statement issued by family spokesperson Makebi Zulu, the family acknowledged that government, through Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa, had initiated formal negotiations with them, but stressed that continued political statements surrounding the burial of the late President were causing unnecessary tension.

Mr Zulu said the family was particularly disturbed by President Hichilema’s remarks made on August 24, 2025, during a tour of the Copperbelt, where he alleged that the late President resisted handing over power in 2021.

He clarified that President Lungu was a democrat who willingly conceded defeat, rejected calls from within his party to petition the election results, and facilitated a smooth transition of power.

He pointed to Mr Lungu’s own public remarks at the burial of PF official Jackson Kungo as proof of his statesmanship.

On allegations by President Hichilema that he was once a target of shootings linked to the former President,Mr Zulu strongly rejected the claims, describing them as regrettable and unfortunate.

He stressed that such innuendos unfairly tarnished the Former PF leader’s reputation and should not be associated with the late leader, urging President Hichilema to exercise restraint in his public discourse.

Mr Zulu has since emphasized the need for  sincerity, decency, and genuine efforts were needed to rebuild trust during this difficult period.

ECONOMIC TURMOIL DEMANDS OPPOSITION UNITY

ECONOMIC TURMOIL DEMANDS OPPOSITION UNITY

By Brian Matambo – Lusaka, Zambia

On EMV Tonight, veteran politician and former Finance Minister Hon. Robert “Bob” Sichinga delivered one of the bluntest critiques yet of President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration, warning that Zambia is in “dire economic straits” and that the government’s handling of both national resources and the burial of late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has left the country “embarrassed before the world.”

BURIAL DISPUTE A NATIONAL SHAME
Sichinga began by expressing deep condolences to the Lungu family, calling the ongoing legal standoff in South Africa over the late president’s burial “a great pity and a national embarrassment.”

“It is painful for the family and shameful for the country,” Sichinga said. “No government has the right to dictate where a man is buried. Honor must be shown in life, not in death.”

He criticized President Hichilema’s refusal to stay away from the funeral despite the family’s request, arguing that government interference has dragged Zambia’s internal affairs into foreign courts. “How did we get here, washing our dirty linen in another country?” he asked.

ECONOMIC FIGURES ‘FAKED’
Turning to the economy, Sichinga accused the UPND government of manipulating data to create the illusion of progress.

“Anybody telling you otherwise is lying to you,” he said. “Inflation cannot drop five percent in a single month, economics does not work that way. Somebody is playing around with the figures to make them look impressive.”

He noted that while the Ministry of Finance projects GDP growth of 5.8 percent, ordinary Zambians continue to face crippling power cuts, rising costs of living, and shortages of essentials. “You can have GDP growth without development if the proceeds are not retained in the country,” he warned.

MINING POLICY UNDER FIRE
Sichinga, who worked for ZCCM and later served as Minister of Commerce and Agriculture, was especially scathing about mining policy.

He said Zambia’s production of 820,000 metric tons of copper pales against Congo’s 2.5–3 million tons, and accused the government of slashing mineral royalty tax at the expense of public revenue.

“At six percent, Zambia earned $432 million. By reducing it to three percent, government has cut its revenue in half, to just $216 million,” Sichinga calculated. “Where will they find the shortfall? Who will pay for medicines, salaries, and national investment?”

He also questioned recent opaque deals around Mopani and Glencore, warning that foreign ownership and offshoring of copper proceeds mean Zambia remains trapped in debt. “We are working for foreigners. They take the profits; the country remains poor,” he said.

AGRICULTURE AND DEBT
Sichinga argued that agriculture, if properly managed, could sustain the country, but pointed to poor storage, inconsistent input delivery, and politicized FRA operations as causes of recurring food crises.

On debt, he said Hichilema’s much-touted restructuring is “a total failure” that only delays repayment while fresh borrowing piles on new liabilities. “Rescheduling is not forgiveness,” he stressed. “In 2005 we had $7.2 billion written off. Twenty years later we are back to more than $16 billion. This government is a total failure.”

OPPOSITION UNITY: ‘WE MUST PUT ZAMBIA FIRST’
Beyond economics, Sichinga spoke at length about the need for opposition unity ahead of the 2026 elections. As a member of the leadership council of the Zambia We Want (ZWW) movement, he revealed that the group has finalized its constitution and manifesto and is preparing to elect a permanent leadership team in September.

“This is not about egos or positions,” he said. “If another opposition leader is better placed to lead, we are prepared to be led. What matters is that Zambia wins.”

Sichinga acknowledged that the ruling UPND has deliberately “destroyed PF” to weaken the opposition, but argued that consolidation of parties is vital. “Zambians know who they want to remove, but they are still asking who will replace. We must answer that with unity, discipline, and solutions,” he said.

CALL FOR A NEW DIRECTION
In closing, Sichinga described the UPND administration as “in crisis” and warned that unless the opposition builds a credible, united front, Zambians will continue to suffer.

“The promises made have not been honored. The people remain poor while our resources are siphoned away,” he said. “We must reclaim ownership of our mines, add value locally, and build a Zambia that our children and grandchildren can be proud of. That is the Zambia we want.”

Njobvu Pledges Jobs, Dignity, and Peaceful Transition After 2026 Elections

Njobvu Pledges Jobs, Dignity, and Peaceful Transition After 2026 Elections

Democratic Union president Ackim Antony Njobvu has assured Zambians that his party will prioritize job creation, dignity, and prosperity if voted into office in the 2026 general elections.

Speaking during an address, Njobvu drew inspiration from scripture, emphasizing the values of love, sacrifice, and service to others.

“Do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased,” Njobvu quoted from Hebrews 13:16, further invoking Luke 6:30 and John 15:13 as reminders of selfless service.

He said the Democratic Union was committed to restoring hope among citizens and tackling unemployment.

“My commitment to you, the people of Zambia, is that after 2026, once you vote for me and the Democratic Union, I will ensure that more job opportunities are created for everyone. Together, we shall restore dignity, hope, and prosperity for all,” Njobvu said.

In a rare conciliatory tone, Njobvu also addressed President Hakainde Hichilema, assuring him of protection after leaving office.

“To my elder brother, President Hakainde Hichilema, I want to assure you that once you hand over power to the Democratic Union in 2026, you will be fully protected. You have nothing to fear, for we believe in peaceful transition, respect, and safeguarding the dignity of all leaders,” he said.

The Democratic Union leader stressed that his vision was anchored on unity and service to the people, insisting that a peaceful transition of power was vital for Zambia’s democracy.

High Court to rule in Lusambo’s four year jail appeal!

High Court to rule in Lusambo’s four year jail appeal!

The Lusaka High Court is today August 27, 2025 expected to deliver ruling in the appeal case of former Lusaka Province Minister, Bowman Lusambo, who is currently serving a four-year jail term for corruption-related charges.

Mr. Lusambo is challenging both his conviction and sentence, which were handed down by the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court over allegations of fraudulent acquisition of public property and conspiracy to defraud the government.

A panel of three judges Justices Susan Wanjelani, Pixie Yangailo, and Anna Malata-Anonuju heard the appeal earlier this year.

His defense, led by lawyer Makebi Zulu, argues that the trial court misdirected itself both in law and fact.

But the State insists the conviction was sound, saying testimony from public officers and financial tracing proved that Mr. Lusambo abused his position to influence the allocation and sale of public property for personal gain.

Meanwhile, at the last court appearance May 21st 2025,, Correctional Service officers blocked journalists from filming Mr. Lusambo as he left the courtroom.

LUNGU FAMILY DECRIES ALLEGED INSULTING HANDOVER REMARKS ON EDGAR LUNGU

‎LUNGU FAMILY DECRIES ALLEGED INSULTING HANDOVER REMARKS ON ECL
‎The family of the late President Edgar Lungu has rejected as an “insult” alleged remarks by President Hakainde Hichilema suggesting that his predecessor resisted handing over power in 2021, insisting that Mr. Lungu conceded defeat and facilitated a smooth transition.

‎Through spokesperson, Makebi Zulu, the family stated that Mr. Lungu’s democratic credentials should not be questioned, recalling his public declaration that he had accepted the outcome of the 2021 elections and declined calls within the Patriotic Front (PF) to challenge the results in court.

‎“The family is aware of the statements issued by President Hakainde Hichilema on 24th August 2025 while touring the Copperbelt, which tended to insult the legacy of the former President when he alleged that there was resistance to hand over power, when in fact not.

‎“As the former President cannot speak for himself, we take this opportunity to correct that position and state that the former President was a democrat who willingly handed over power to President
‎ Hakainde Hichilema,” the statement read.

‎The family’s remarks come as it continues its legal battle over the burial of the former president, who died in South Africa on June 5, 2025.

‎On Monday, the Constitutional Court declined to grant the family direct access to appeal before it, ruling that the matter must first be heard by the Supreme Court in Pretoria.

‎Zulu explained that the essence of the appeal was to assert the family’s right to participate in decisions surrounding the burial of their relative, contrary to a High Court judgment which, they argue, stripped them of any role in the matter.

‎The family further contended that the South African High Court erred in applying Zambian law, which, they argued, did not provide for the burial of a president who died abroad.

‎The family also confirmed that the Zambian government, through Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa, had approached them for formal negotiations over the repatriation and burial.

‎However, they expressed concern over what they termed contradictory statements from ruling UPND officials and President Hichilema himself, saying such remarks threatened to erode trust in the negotiation process.

‎“The family prays for sincerity and decency to prevail as discussions proceed,” Zulu said, adding that efforts must be made to rebuild trust as the dispute heads for further litigation and dialogue.

Point of Correction: Concourt Did Not Reject Appeal – It Ordered Due Process, Not Shortcuts- Michael Zephaniah Phiri

Point of Correction: Concourt Did Not Reject Appeal – It Ordered Due Process, Not Shortcuts

By Michael Zephaniah Phiri, Political Activist

Let’s set the record straight. The sensational headlines screaming that “South Africa’s Constitutional Court has rejected the Lungu family’s appeal” *are misleading, premature, and intellectually dishonest.*  The truth is simple: *the Constitutional Court has NOT rejected the substance of the appeal. It has *simply directed the family of the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu to follow the due legal process,*  as prescribed by the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.

What the Court Actually Said*
In its ruling, the Concourt made it abundantly clear that there are no shortcuts in constitutional litigation.

The Lungu family cannot leapfrog the lower courts and run straight to the Constitutional Court. This is not how justice works. Those celebrating should take a deep breath, open a law book, and understand that the battle is not over—it has just begun.

The directive does not close the door;it simply asks the family to *walk through the right door first.*  That is the essence of constitutional democracy— the rule of law, not the rule of mob opinion or political propaganda.

What Does South Africa’s Constitution Say?

For those misinformed or deliberately peddling lies, Section 167(6)(a)*  of the *Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996,is crystal clear:

“National legislation or the Rules of the Constitutional Court must allow a person, when it is in the interests of justice and with leave of the Constitutional Court, to appeal directly to the Constitutional Court from any other court.”

This means direct appeals are exceptional, not automatic. The Lungu family attempted to invoke this direct route—but the court, exercising its constitutional discretion, ruled that the matter does not warrant bypassing the ordinary courts at this stage. That is not a rejection of their case; it is a reaffirmation of constitutional order.

Those who are celebrating today are essentially *celebrating the enforcement of procedure,*  not victory on the merits of the case. If this is what they call a “win,” then their legal comprehension is as shallow as their political thinking.

The Political Undertones

It is disturbing—but not surprising—that certain political actors and media outlets are exploiting this technical ruling to push a narrative of finality and humiliation for the Lungu family. This is classic propaganda: take a half-truth, distort it, and weaponize it to score cheap political points.

But facts do not bend to propaganda. The court did not rule against the family on the substance of the repatriation issue. *It merely said: Follow the law.*

So, to those dancing in premature celebration:

▪️ Did you even read the judgment?

▪️ Do you understand the difference between a procedural directive and a substantive ruling?

▪️ Or are you too intoxicated with political hatred to care about the truth?

*The Bigger Picture*

This case is not just about where Edgar Lungu will be buried. It raises profound constitutional questions about *human dignity, family rights, and the limits of state power in cross-border matters.*  South Africa prides itself on being a constitutional state, and this ruling proves that *even high-profile cases must walk the constitutional path.*

Those mocking the Lungu family should remember: *the wheels of justice may grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly fine.*  Today’s procedural directive is tomorrow’s substantive victory—if the legal arguments hold water.

*Final Word – The Punchline*

The Constitutional Court has not said *“No”*  to the Lungu family. It has said: “ *We are a nation of laws.  Follow the process.”* To those prematurely jubilating, ask yourselves this: Since when did the enforcement of procedure become the death of justice?

*Premature celebration is the hobby of the ignorant—read the Constitution before you open the champagne.*

COURT ORDERS GOVT TO PAY RETIRED SOLDIERS AND HARMONISE SALARIES ACROSS DEFENCE FORCES – Fred M’membe

COURT ORDERS GOVT TO PAY RETIRED SOLDIERS AND HARMONISE SALARIES ACROSS DEFENCE FORCES

The recent judgment where the High Court has order the government to pay over 1,500 retired Zambians Army and Zambia Airforce officers who were underpaid on their pension, marks a watershed moment in the struggle for pension justice in Zambia.

The High Court found that government acted unlawfully by removing over 1,500 retired Zambia Army and Zambia Air Force officers from the payroll before settling their pension dues, which it stated was in breach of Article 189 of the Constitution. Many of these former service personnel endured payment delays of up to three years, in clear violation of their rights and dignity.

In a landmark ruling, the High Court directed government to recalculate and pay arrears, including service allowances reinstated in 2021, pay interest at the Bank of Zambia’s average lending rate, and implement  a salary harmonization policy to guarantee equal pay for equal ranks across the defence force.

The Court however, declined the demand to reinstate the ex-soldiers on the payroll, citing that this would amount to “unjust enrichment” since pensions had already been disbursed.

This judgment certainly sets a critical precedent on pension rights and pay equity in the country’s public service.

In our view, this ruling is not just about legal compliance, it is also about fairness, accountability, and respect for our men and women in uniform. And any further delay in implementing the Court’s directives would only perpetuate inequality and underpayment across the defence and security services.

We therefore, wish to remind the UPND government that it carries both a legal and moral obligation to act quickly on the Court’s directives, curtail unfair pension practices once and for all, and ensure the harmonisation of salaries and benefits across all defence and security wings.

We say so because anything short of this will be a clear violation of the Constitution and also a dishonourable act towards the service and sacrifice of thousands of Zambians, who dedicated their lives to safeguarding our sovereignty.

The Court has spoken, let the government now do its part, and swiftly implement the Court’s directives.

Lungu Family Reaffirms Commitment to Dignity, Unity and Respect Amid Legal Battles

Lungu Family Reaffirms Commitment to Dignity, Unity and Respect Amid Legal Battles

South Africa, Wednesday, 26th August 2025

The family of the late former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has issued a statement following a recent ruling of the Constitutional Court, emphasizing their unwavering commitment to dignity, respect, and truth in the ongoing matters surrounding his burial.

The family clarified that their earlier legal actions, including applications before both the Supreme Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court, were aimed at ensuring a faster resolution to the appeal process. While the Constitutional Court has directed that the appeal must first proceed to the Supreme Court of Appeal, the family has reaffirmed its reliance on due process, noting that Section 18(1) of the Superior Courts Act continues to preserve the current status quo.

At the heart of the appeal, the Lungu family stressed, is the fundamental issue of family rights. They contend that the High Court ruling wrongly stripped them of their rightful role in deciding the burial of their loved one, despite his high office.

“The essence of the appeal by the family is to assert family rights in relation to the burial of a loved one notwithstanding the position one held in life,” the statement read.

The family further argued that the High Court had misapplied Zambian law, pointing out that no legal framework exists in Zambia to regulate the burial of a former head of state who passed away abroad. They maintain that the court neither examined the available evidence nor correctly interpreted the applicable laws.

On the matter of repatriation and burial arrangements, the family expressed concern over contradictory orders that introduced conditions inconsistent with the court’s own findings. Nevertheless, they welcomed the government’s willingness to open negotiations, acknowledging outreach efforts by Secretary to the Cabinet, Mr. Patrick Kangwa.

Despite this, the family raised concerns about ongoing public commentary from certain government and political leaders, which they fear undermines trust. They expressed particular dismay at remarks made by President Hakainde Hichilema during his Copperbelt tour, which they felt misrepresented the legacy of President Lungu.

Defending the former President’s record, the family reminded the nation that Edgar Lungu was a committed democrat who voluntarily handed over power in 2021. They cited his own public statements at the burial of PF’s Jackson Kungo, where he openly declared his concession and refusal to contest the election outcome, instead choosing to facilitate a peaceful transfer of power.

The family also dismissed insinuations that President Hichilema had been a target of violent plots under the late President’s leadership, calling such claims unfounded and unfair.

Above all, the Lungu family appealed for “sincerity and decency” as the environment for dialogue and resolution is fostered. They underscored the importance of trust, urging all stakeholders to focus on healing rather than division.

The family expressed deep gratitude to the people of Zambia and to countless supporters who have offered prayers and solidarity during this “difficult period.”

“When trust is broken, deliberate and genuine steps must be taken to rebuild it,” the statement affirmed, underscoring the family’s call for unity, respect, and the dignified honoring of their late loved one.

Murder Suspect Moved to More Comfortable Detention Despite Ongoing Probe

Murder Suspect Moved to More Comfortable Detention Despite Ongoing Probe

Murder suspect Nathaniel Barthram has been quietly transferred to Kasanda Police Station after reportedly complaining for days about congestion and lack of proper ventilation in the cells at Kabwe Central Police, where he was initially detained. His removal has raised serious questions about preferential treatment in an active murder investigation.

Sources close to the case revealed that the 34-year-old Barthram left officers surprised when he formally requested to be relocated to a detention facility with air conditioning. His seemingly modest appeal was granted within days, leaving other detainees puzzled and frustrated.

“Is this the new standard?” one detainee asked sarcastically. “So now if you’re uncomfortable, you just make a polite request and they move you?”

This unusual transfer has sparked debate, especially among those familiar with the investigation, who are questioning the stark contrast between how authorities handled the suspect’s comfort concerns and how the suspect responded to the victim’s desperate pleas before his death.

Barthram stands accused alongside his wife  prominent Zambian farmer and entrepreneur Maria Zaloumis, known widely as The Zed Farmer  and three others in connection with the murder of 22-year-old Enock Simfukwe Kasengele.

Enock died on August 17, 2025, at Kabwe Central Hospital after falling critically ill in police custody. He had reportedly begged to be untied or at least have his restraints loosened, yet those requests were ignored. In tragic irony, Barthram one of the men near Enock at the time  has now had his own plea granted.

Initial reports claimed Enock was involved in a plot to attack Zaloumis with acid.

According to a postmortem conducted on August 20 revealed that Enock had not died from natural causes. The autopsy found evidence of a blunt force head injury, brain contusion, and brain edema  clear signs of sustained physical trauma.

Now, with the suspect enjoying what some describe as improved detention conditions, many are left asking: How is this possible? Why was mercy extended to a man under investigation for ignoring another’s desperate cry for help? And what message does this send about justice and accountability in high-profile cases?

The questions remain and so does public scrutiny.

Or maybe it’s just coincidence that the move happened at a time it’s not yet clear.

President HH wants LAA in Zambia – MULAMBO HAIMBE

President HH wants LAA in Zambia – MULAMBO HAIMBE MoF Minister.

…as League gains diplomatic traction for continental win

Amb Anthony Mukwita wrote-

27.08.25

In a landmark meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, Zambia’s Foreign Minister Hon. Mulambo Haimbe reaffirmed the country’s commitment to hosting the League of African Ambassadors (LAA), a continental body poised to redefine diplomacy across Africa

Hon Haimbe said, “President Hakainde Hichilema is aware of this LAA initiative,” hon. Haimbe stated, and “It was mentioned to him by the outgoing Ambassador of Ghana, H.E Kadijda. It’s been on my table for a while for action that is why I am happy you are finally here (LAA).”

Hon Haimbe’s words as Minister of Foreign affairs set the tone for what is shaping up to be a historic diplomatic launch in October in Lusaka, the biggest event ever of on the diplomatic calendar in years.
The LAA, a non-partisan, pan-African diplomatic initiative, was officially registered on 10 January after two years of rigorous groundwork in Zambia.

Interim President of the League, Ambassador Ominyi Nwanne, expressed gratitude for Zambia’s warm embrace: “It can’t be done without the blessing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We are ready, but no person greater than President Hichilema can launch pad this initiative we need him through you Minister Haimbe because you are the diplomatic face of the President H.E HH.”

The League’s pillars—peace building, diplomatic resource pooling, mentorship, and continental cohesion—are rooted in professionalism, not party affiliation.

Planning Chair Lazarous Kapambwe emphasized, “We recycle everything except Ambassadors. These people (Ambassadors) carry experience—they are moving libraries we re-use them now through LAA, they are a resource, a rich resource.”
Minister Haimbe, in his signature eloquence, pledged full support: “LAA is a resource for diplomacy—say maybe Zambia diplomacy school, peace building just to start with. When we need diplomatic engagements, we need you (LAA) because of your experience.”

He added, “To me, the sky is the limit. I even feel we should invite foreign heads of states to join us because this is diplomatically huge for Africa.”

The planning committee, a constellation of seasoned diplomats, includes Ambassadors Mukwita, Ominyi Nwanne, Sylvester Mundanda, Bob Samakayi, Solomon Jere, Joyce Musenge, Anderson Chibwa, Counsellor Joel Chibwa, and Charity Charamba of Zimbabwe.

Their presence underscored the League’s gravitas and the depth of its continental reach.
Zambia, often referred to as the cradle of diplomacy in Southern Africa, has long played host to pivotal peace talks and regional integration efforts.

From the Lusaka Protocol that helped end Angola’s civil war to its role in SADC mediation, Zambia’s diplomatic legacy is rich and enduring. Minister Haimbe, a steward of this legacy, now stands at the helm of a new chapter—one that positions Zambia as the launch-pad for continental unity.

Ambassador Musenge captured the sentiment best in vote of thanks: “You have blessed us. There’s no LAA without the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mulambo Haimbe. Now everyone knows this continental body has your blessing, it is real thanks to you sir.”

With the African Union Chairperson expected to attend or send a high-level representative, and President Hakainde Hichilema’s stamp of approval already in place, the October launch promises to be a defining moment for African diplomacy.

As Minister Haimbe aptly put it, “A good start shapes future positive outcomes. I am happy to be with you, part of you, LAA, our President (Hichilema) wants this to happen in Zambia we are behind you.”

Indeed, the League of African Ambassadors is not just gaining traction—it is gaining altitude. And Zambia, under the visionary leadership of Minister Haimbe, is charting the course.
The LAA has recently held top level meetings with the Secretary to the Cabinet of Zambia Patrick Kangwa and Mayor of Lusaka Chitangala Chilando plus bank CEOs. Ambassadors across Africa and beyond are heading to Lusaka today.

CHAWAMA POWER BASE SHIFTS AS 575 DEFECT TO UPND

CHAWAMA POWER BASE SHIFTS AS 575 DEFECT TO UPND

By Wagon Media – August 26, 2025

Chawama Constituency has witnessed a dramatic political realignment after 575 members from the Patriotic Front (PF) and Socialist Party (SP) abandoned their former parties to join the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND).

The mass defections, officially presented on Sunday, August 24, were presided over by Presidential Mobilization Team (PMT) National Coordinator, Bishop Burden Mfungwe, who hailed the development as a turning point for local politics.

Bishop Mfungwe praised President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership for “restoring peace and stability” while noting that the Head of State had already fulfilled the majority of his campaign pledges.

“What you have done today is one of the most important decisions of your lives. President Hichilema has delivered 95 percent of what he promised, and it is now your duty to share that record with those still outside the UPND,” Bishop Mfungwe told the cheering crowd.

He further assured that the PMT would “deliver Chawama to the ruling party.”

Receiving the defectors, constituency chairperson Andrew Zulu, popularly known as AZ, welcomed them with a call for unity:

“From this day, there should be no discrimination. These are our brothers and sisters, and they are now part of us,” Zulu said.

Speaking for the new members, former PF Nkoloma Ward 1 coordinator Meleki Ntambo explained that they were drawn to the UPND because of visible development.

“Under PF, the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) was more of a rumour. Today, it is reality. I have seen the transformation myself — that is why I have left a party that is falling apart,” Ntambo declared, sparking applause.

With Chawama still under PF’s parliamentary control, the defections are being read as more than symbolic. They raise the stakes ahead of the next election, with UPND eyeing a constituency once considered an opposition stronghold.

For now, Chawama has emerged as the centre of shifting political loyalties — and Sunday’s developments show the ruling party is determined to tilt the balance of power in its favour.

TOP 5 JOBS THAT ARE LESS LIKELY TO BE REPLACED BY AI

By Dr Aaron Mujajati

TOP 5 JOBS THAT ARE LESS LIKELY TO BE REPLACED BY AI.

According to the World Economic Forum the following five jobs are less likely to be replaced by AI:

1. Mental Health Professionals. To do these jobs you need human connection, trust and empathy. Ai just can’t do this job effectively. So mental health professionals will not be replaced by AI any time soon.

2. Skilled Trades (plumbers, carpenters, electrician). These jobs are based on highly skilled hands on work. When these jobs get complex and require trouble shooting AI simply can’t do it.

3. Teachers – especially early childhood educators. Children require emotional nurturing, play based learning, and adult supervision and AI simply can’t do it.

4. Healthcare Professionals (doctors, nurses). Although AI can make diagnoses it can not do complex surgery or make judgement calls in ethical dilemma type of situations. Ai can not offer emotional support, this will always need another human.

5. Religious leaders (pastors, bishops, papas). Ai is largely data driven. Not so with religion. So these jobs will need humans because they are deeply rooted in faith, spiritual counsel and emotional support which AI can’t do.

So if you are looking for a career that will not be replaced by AI look to the predictions of the World Economic Forum. You have heard.

Trump demands $500 Million settlement from Harvard University

US President, Donald Trump has called for Harvard University to pay a $500 million settlement before the government restores its federal funding, accusing the Ivy League institution of misconduct.

“We want nothing less than $500 million from Harvard. Don’t negotiate, Linda,” Trump told Education Secretary Linda McMahon during a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, August 26..

He doubled down moments later, saying, “They’ve been very bad. Don’t negotiate.”

The move comes amid escalating tensions between the White House and elite academic institutions. Harvard is currently locked in a legal battle with the administration over allegations of antisemitism on campus, a dispute that has intensified since the Israel-Hamas war reignited fierce debates over academic freedom and political speech.

Harvard is the only university to challenge the federal government in court directly, making it the epicenter of a broader clash over higher education funding and oversight.

Inside the Trump administration, officials reportedly believe that targeting elite universities resonates with a political base frustrated by what they view as liberal dominance in academia.

A federal judge is expected to issue a ruling in Harvard’s funding case soon. The university had requested an expedited decision from US District Judge Allison Burroughs before September 3 — the date it says it must submit key grant paperwork to avoid disruptions to research programs.

The administration has already struck agreements with Columbia and Brown Universities, leaving Harvard as the most high-profile holdout in this unprecedented standoff.

Actor Bruce Willis’ brain is ‘failing him’ — Wife Emma reveals

Bruce Willis’ wife, Emma Heming Willis, has shared a deeply emotional update on the actor’s health as he continues to battle frontotemporal dementia, a diagnosis he received in 2023.

In a preview of her interview with Diane Sawyer, airing Tuesday night on ABC, Emma, 47, spoke candidly about the 70-year-old actor’s condition, revealing both heartbreaking and hopeful moments in their journey.

“Bruce is still very mobile,” Emma said. “Bruce is in really great health overall, you know.” However, she added, “It’s just his brain that is failing him.”

Emma, who shares daughters Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11, with Willis, described how his ability to communicate has been fading.

“His language is going, and we’ve learned to adapt to communicate with him in a different way,” she explained.

When asked by Sawyer, 79, whether there are moments when it feels like Bruce again, Emma replied: “We still get those days. Not days, but we get moments. It’s his laugh, right? Like, he has such, like, a hearty laugh… sometimes you’ll see that twinkle in his eye, or that smirk, and I just get, like, transported.”

Fighting back tears, she added: “It’s just hard to see, because as quickly as those moments appear, then it goes. It’s hard. But I’m grateful… I’m grateful that my husband is still very much here.”

Reflecting on when doctors first gave the diagnosis, Emma recalled feeling overwhelmed:
“To leave there with nothing, just nothing, with a diagnosis I couldn’t pronounce… I was so panicked. I remember hearing it and not hearing anything else. I was free falling.”

She also noted that she doesn’t believe Bruce “ever really connected the dots” about his condition.

Emma revealed that before his official diagnosis, Willis had started showing subtle but troubling signs. “For someone who was very talkative and very engaged, he was just a little more quiet,” she said. “When the family would get together, he would just melt a little bit… It felt a little removed, very cold, not like Bruce, who was very warm and affectionate. To go the complete opposite of that was alarming and scary.”

Willis was first diagnosed with aphasia in 2022, which led to his retirement from acting. The following year, his family including ex-wife Demi Moore and their daughters Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah announced that he had developed frontotemporal dementia, a rare and debilitating brain disorder.

“While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis,” the family said at the time.

Man sl@ughter’s his wife after she refused to give him her momo pin

The family of 28-year-old Susan Nabwire in Pipeline is reeling after she was brutally murdered by her husband, ex-police officer 44-year-old Cyprian Mukoye.

The heinous act happened in front of their house manager and one-year-old baby. He later raped the house help.

Cyprian Mukoye murdered his wife Susan Nabwire after Susan denied him access to her phone and mobile money account.

According to police reports and eyewitness accounts, the couple had engaged in a serious argument the night before the attack.

Susan’s mother also told the police that Mukoye suspected Susan of cheating but she denied all allegations.

He had also asked his wife for the PIN of her M-Pesa (mobile money) account which she declined.

On the morning of the incident, Susan was bathing in the couple’s bathroom when her husband sneaked up on her wielding a sharp axe.

Out of rage, he struck her twice on the neck, inflicting catastrophic injuries. Susan could not survive the impact of the strike.

The househelp, whose name has been withheld for her safety, immediately screamed for help, alerting neighbors.

Mukoye realizing the severity of his actions, fled the home before neighbors could detain him and police arrived.

Authorities have since launched a manhunt, with roadblocks established in the surrounding area and appeals issued for public assistance in locating the fugitive.

Nigeria ranked second on the list of countries with most paternity fraud

With infidelity among married women on the rise, DNA tests has been a resort for men these days as they seek not to make the wrong investment.

It seems it’s not only internet fraud that the people of Nigeria is into. The country is now ranked second on the global list of paternity fraud.

Nigeria continues to grapple with one of the highest rates of paternity fraud globally, ranking second only to Jamaica, according to recent data and reports.

The Smart DNA 2025 Annual DNA Testing Report, analyzing cases from July 2024 to June 2025, revealed that 25% of paternity tests conducted at their Lagos-based center returned negative results, meaning one in four men tested were not the biological fathers of the children in question.

This marks a slight decrease from the 27% recorded in 2024 but underscores a persistent trend of paternity uncertainty in the country.

The report highlights that firstborn children, particularly sons, are disproportionately affected, with 64% of negative paternity test results involving firstborn sons.

Jamaica was at the top with a paternity fraud rate of 34.6%, followed by Nigeria at approximately 25-30%.

Other countries cited in available data include Canada, ranked third with a rate of 2.8%, the United Kingdom, fourth at 1.6%, and France, fifth at 1.4%.

Woman reportedly arrested by bees for stealing from a man she spent a night with

People resort to various forms and means to protect themselves and their properties. While some prefer physical protection like guns, others use unconventional methods.

While some may call it superstition, most Africans resort to spiritual means when people wrong them. Some call this voodoo or juju.

In Kenya, a woman was arrested by a swarm of bees after she stole from a man she spent the night with.

The woman whose identity is undisclosed, is allegedly into hookup and after attending to one of her clients, she was able to make away with some money from him.

It is believed to be a huge sum although the amount remains undisclosed. Unknown to her, the guy had an uncommon means of protection.

After trying to make away with the money, she was attacked and arrested by a swarm of bees that stuck to her face as seen in the video.

Local sources report that the woman eventually confessed to the theft, claiming she took the money believing the man would not take action.

The bees reportedly dispersed after the intervention of a local traditional healer, identified only as Wesonga, who performed rituals to calm the situation.

The woman was then escorted to Kitengela Police Station, where she is being held pending further investigation and possible charges.

Scientists perform world’s first successful pig-to-human lung transplant

Scientists have successfully performed the world’s first pig-to-human lung transplant in what could be a major breakthrough for humanity.

Science and technology are both rapidly evolving, but few people would have thought it was even possible to replace a human organ with a pig’s.

Well, some clever clogs in China have managed just that, with the patient still breathing more than a week on from the operation.

Doctors are almost able to perform miracles these days, with a man in New York undergoing a face and double hand transplant after a horror car crash left him with horrific burns.

For those of you who aren’t clued up on complex scientific procedures, the process of inserting another animal’s organ into a human body is known as xenotransplantation.

While this has long been a good idea in theory, scientists have made real progress in recent years, with kidneys, hearts and livers all seen as feasible transplants from pigs to humans.

But now, a lung has been successfully transplanted for the first time, with researchers from the Guangzhou Medical University explaining exactly how they did it.

“Here, we report a case of pig-to-human lung xenotransplantation, in which a lung from a six-gene-edited pig was transplanted into a 39-year-old brain-dead male human recipient following a brain haemorrhage,” the researchers wrote in a study published in the journal Nature Medicine.

After editing some of the pig’s genes to remove certain proteins, the lung was inserted into a patient who had been classified as brain-dead by four clinical assessments.

Drugs were administered to help the patient’s immune system accept the foreign organ and it wasn’t immediately rejected, and has now remained there for nine days.

“The lung xenograft maintained viability and functionality over the course of the 216 hours of the monitoring period, without signs of hyperacute rejection or infection,” the study noted.

However, there were some signs of damage after 24 hours, as well as signs of antibody-mediated rejection, which led to the termination of the trial after nine days.

“Antibody-mediated rejection appeared to contribute to xenograft damage on postoperative days three and six, with partial recovery by day nine,” they noted.

However, it remains a huge step forward and shows what can be achieved once final tweaks are made in the future.

“Although this study demonstrates the feasibility of pig-to-human lung xenotransplantation, substantial challenges relating to organ rejection and infection remain, and further preclinical studies are necessary before clinical translation of this procedure,” they wrote.

While transplants don’t always have good outcomes, with one woman in the US losing her job after donating a kidney to her boss, this particular scientific breakthrough can only be good news for the thousands of people on transplant lists who are forced to wait years for an appropriate donor, while some sadly never get the chance to undergo a transplant.

Expert explains why it’s so difficult to rescue climber who broke leg 22,000ft up mountain

A new rescue attempt is being planned for Natalia Nagovitsina, a 47-year-old woman who has been stuck on Victory Peak in Kyrgyzstan since 12 August after she broke her leg.

The mountain climber has been stuck 22,965 feet (7,000 metres) up a mountain for days after previous efforts to get her down were called off due to adverse conditions.

People were previously able to reach the stricken woman and bring her supplies to help her survive, but Italian climber Luca Sinigaglia died on the mountain after delivering them.

Attempts to use helicopters to reach the site where the woman with the broken leg is stuck have been unsuccessful, as one of the aircraft crashed and the other suffered from poor visibility and couldn’t continue.

A new rescue attempt hinges on a drone being able to fly up and relocate Nagovitsina to see if she is still alive and in the same place as before.

Such rescue attempts will be incredibly difficult, as Eric Raúl Albino Lliuya of the Mountain Rescue Association in South America explained to LADbible.

His team successfully rescued a climber from Nevado Huascarán Sur, the tallest mountain in Peru, at a comparable height to the one the Russian woman is stuck at, and he laid out what makes for the ‘extremely complex and often life-threatening challenges’ involved in saving lives at that sort of altitude.

At the elevation where Nagovitsina is stuck, the thin air presents a huge amount of danger to any rescuers attempting to recover her and help her off the mountain.

Lliuya said: “At this elevation, oxygen levels are critically low, making even simple tasks exhausting. Rescuers face risks of hypoxia, high-altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE), and high-altitude cerebral edema (HACE).”

Up there, it is simply harder to do pretty much anything, and the expert also pointed towards the ‘unpredictable weather’, another major factor in halting rescues.

The weather was a major reason why recovery attempts were called off over the weekend, and Lliuya said ‘high winds, sub-zero temperatures, and whiteouts’ can slow down operations or subject rescuers to ‘frostbite, hypothermia, and avalanches’.

With two helicopter-based rescues unsuccessful in the search for Nagovitsina, the expert explained that ‘most helicopters cannot operate safely above 6,000 meters due to thin air, turbulence and lack of power’, leaving rescuers stuck having to do things on foot.

During Lliuya’s rescue operation in Peru, they did not have a helicopter capable of flying beyond 4,900 metres, which limited what they were able to do.

With rescuers forced to do things on foot, the terrain poses as much danger as possible, as ‘steep, icy and avalanche-prone routes’ make everything slower.

Lliuya’s experience told him that ‘carrying a stretcher at this altitude can take several hours to move just a short distance’, so with Nagovitsina’s broken leg, any rescue would be a major logistical challenge.

On top of all of these obstacles, Lliuya said that the low number of personnel with training in mountain rescue or who worked as guides on the mountain meant that only a few people would be able to render much help.

He said: “In many cases, these combined factors sadly mean that rescue attempts become nearly impossible without jeopardising additional lives.

“Each mission must carefully balance the ethical duty to attempt a rescue with the very real risks of severe injury or loss of life for rescuers.”

The mountain rescue expert said that rescue operations at 7,000 metres would be ‘even more challenging and highly dangerous’, and the ‘combination of altitude, weather, and technical terrain often makes survival and rescue success highly improbable’.

“The tragic situation involving Ms. Natalia Nagovitsina illustrates the extreme complexity and risks inherent in high-altitude rescues,” he told LADbible.

“When climbers attempt to provide supplies at such elevations, the dangers are multiplied: exhaustion, hypoxia, and severe weather conditions put both the rescuers and the victim at very high risk, as sadly demonstrated by the death of one of the rescuers.

“The helicopter operations also highlight one of the biggest challenges: most helicopters cannot operate safely above 6,000 meters due to thin air, turbulence, and lack of power.

“At altitudes around 7,000 meters, stability is nearly impossible, and poor visibility only increases the risks of accidents, as shown by the crash and the failed attempts.”

Rescues at such heights are thus ‘not only extremely dangerous but sometimes impossible without putting additional lives at risk’, something that will have to be taken into account should Nagovitsina be spotted alive and reachable.

Lamine Yamal has gone public with his new girlfriend, Nicki Nicole on Instagram

Barcelona superstar, Lamine Yamal, has gone public with his new girlfriend, Nicki Nicole, on Instagram.

The 18-year-old Spanish footballer shared an intimate photograph featuring himself and the Argentine singer celebrating her 25th birthday.

The post comes after Yamal helped Barcelona secure a dramatic 3 – 2 comeback victory against Levante on Saturday evening.

Nicole was previously dating fellow singer Peso Pluma before they endured a public split last year following allegations that he had been spotted with another woman in Las Vegas.

Trump suggests Americans prefer authoritarian leadership

US President, Donald Trump on Monday, August 25, suggested that some Americans may prefer authoritarian leadership while defending his administration’s aggressive federal clampdown on Washington, D.C., and his push to prosecute those who burn the U.S. flag.

In an 80-minute Oval Office briefing, Trump railed against critics and the media, arguing he was not receiving enough credit for deploying the National Guard and pushing hardline policies on crime and immigration.

“They say ‘we don’t need him. Freedom, freedom. He’s a dictator. He’s a dictator.’ A lot of people are saying: ‘Maybe we like a dictator,’” Trump told reporters.

He quickly added a defense of his leadership style: “I don’t like a dictator. I’m not a dictator. I’m a man with great common sense and a smart person.”

The remarks drew attention given Trump’s controversial history with democratic norms. Following his 2020 election loss to Joe Biden, Trump falsely claimed the vote was stolen and attempted to overturn the result, leading to the January 6 Capitol riot. He had previously told supporters he would be a “dictator on day one” if re-elected in 2024, a comment critics said hinted at autocratic ambitions.

The president recently ordered the National Guard into Washington and assumed federal control over the city’s police department, citing an “out-of-control crime problem.” He also signaled plans to expand similar measures to other Democratic-led cities, including Chicago and Baltimore, and had earlier dispatched the National Guard to Los Angeles against state and local officials’ objections.

Trump singled out Illinois Governor JB Pritzker for criticism, accusing him of undermining federal efforts to restore order. “When I see what’s happening to our cities, and then you send them, and instead of being praised, they’re saying, ‘you’re trying to take over the Republic,’” Trump said. “These people are sick.”

On Monday, Trump went further by signing an executive order to investigate and prosecute flag-burning incidents, despite a 1989 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that protects the act under free speech.

The comments have sparked widespread debate, with critics warning of creeping authoritarianism and supporters praising Trump’s tough stance on law and order.

Trump fires Fed Reserve gov, Lisa Cook, over mortgage allegations

0

US President Donald Trump has ordered the removal of Federal Reserve Governor, Lisa Cook, amid unproven claims of mortgage fraud, an unprecedented move that immediately raised fears for the central bank’s independence.

The allegations were raised last week by director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency Bill Pulte, who alleged Professor Cook had claimed two primary residences in 2021, one in Michigan and another in Atlanta.

Mr Pulte, who was appointed by Mr Trump this year, suggested Professor Cook had been trying to get better mortgage terms, as rates are often higher on second homes.

In a letter posted on social media on Monday night, Trump said Cook, one of the seven members of the Fed’s Board of Governors, was being sacked “effective immediately” in accordance with his powers under the US Constitution and the 1913 Federal Reserve Act.

Citing claims aired last week by the US federal mortgage regulator, Trump said there was “sufficient reason to believe you may have made false statements on one or more mortgage agreements”.

“The Federal Reserve has tremendous responsibility for setting interest rates and regulating reserve and member banks,” Trump said in the letter, which was shared on his platform Truth Social.

“The American people must be able to have full confidence in the honesty of the members entrusted with setting policy and overseeing the Federal Reserve. In light of your deceitful and potentially criminal conduct in a financial matter, they cannot and I do not have such confidence in your integrity.

“At a minimum, the conduct at issue exhibits the sort of gross negligence in financial transactions that calls into question your competence and trustworthiness as a financial regulator,” Trump said.

Professor Cook denied the allegations and said she would not step down.

“President Trump purported to fire me ‘for cause’ when no cause exists under the law, and he has no authority to do so,” she said in an emailed statement.

Her attorney, Abbe Lowell, said Mr Trump’s “reflex to bully is flawed and his demands lack any proper process, basis or legal authority”.

“We will take whatever actions are needed to prevent his attempted illegal action,” he added.

Professor Cook was appointed to the Federal Reserve board by then-President Joe Biden in 2022 and is the first black woman to serve as a governor.

Her nomination was opposed by most Senate Republicans, and she was approved on a 50–50 vote with the tie broken by then-vice-president Kamala Harris.
