UPND DELEGATION VISITS GUANGZHOU SMART CITY OPERATION CENTER TO APPRECIATE CHINA’S URBAN INNOVATION
Guangzhou, China – 5 July 2025
The United Party for National Development (UPND) delegation led by Secretary General Batuke Imenda have visited the Guangzhou Smart City Operation Center as part of their ongoing official visit to the People’s Republic of China at the invitation of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
The visit was a key highlight in the delegation’s programme in Guangdong Province, aimed at exploring innovative urban management systems and smart city technologies that could inspire Zambia’s own developmental aspirations.
Understanding that government policies in Zambia are partly informed by Political Party manifestos, this exploration was particularly important for the UPND Secretary General.
The Guangzhou Smart City Operation Center, often referred to as the “brain” of the city, is a cutting-edge hub that integrates big data, artificial intelligence, and real-time information to manage urban operations such as traffic control, transportation, emergency response, environmental monitoring, and public services delivery.
The UPND delegation engaged in a briefing with city officials and technology experts who shared case studies on smart mobility, waste management, citywide surveillance, and integrated command systems. Particular attention was given to how citizen data is used to inform policy and respond rapidly to urban challenges.
Speaking after the tour, Mr. Imenda commended China’s smart city model as a progressive and visionary approach to urban management, highlighting its relevance to Zambia’s development goals.
He noted that the integration of digital infrastructure and intelligent systems offers critical lessons on enhancing service delivery, promoting accountability, and improving the quality of life for citizens.
“This visit has been an eye-opener. We’ve seen firsthand how digital systems can make cities more efficient, responsive, and sustainable. For Zambia, this experience is a strong reminder of the importance of embracing smart technologies as we modernize our urban centres and promote decentralization,” Mr. Imenda said.
He emphasized the role of information technology in enhancing urban governance, citing its usefulness in tracking public transport systems, monitoring passenger flow, and curbing crime and violence in cities. He urged Zambia’s local authorities to adopt e-governance platforms to improve public service delivery and revenue collection.
Describing Guangzhou as a dynamic commercial hub, Mr. Imenda said the city’s advanced level of digital integration is impressive and serves as a model for Zambia. He added that e-governance is not only a tool for efficiency but also a critical instrument in fighting corruption and promoting transparency in public administration.
The visit is part of a broader programme that includes field visits and policy exchanges across key provinces in China. It also aligns with the UPND’s broader vision of leveraging digital transformation and international cooperation to drive sustainable development in Zambia.
The UPND delegation is expected to continue its engagements in Yunnan and Beijing provinces, with planned sessions on rural revitalization, the Belt and Road Initiative, grassroots governance, and participation in the Global Civilizations Dialogue Ministerial Conference.
EFF demands answers from Ramaphosa on Lotto licence controversy
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to address allegations of political interference in the awarding of the National Lottery licence to Sizekhaya Holdings, pointing to the involvement of Deputy President Paul Mashatile.
In a letter dated July 3, Malema raised concerns about the multibillion-rand, eight-year contract awarded in May 2025 by Trade, Industry, and Competition Minister Parks Tau, citing an “intricate web of familial and political connections.”
Sizekhaya Holdings, part-owned by Bellamont Gaming, includes shareholders Khumo Bogatsu, the twin sister of Mashatile’s wife, Humile, and Moses Tembe, a businessman and close associate of Mashatile.
Malema’s letter questions whether Ramaphosa was aware of these ties, if he supports Tau’s decision despite reported procedural irregularities, and whether he discussed the matter with Mashatile.
The EFF leader also criticized Tau for evading parliamentary oversight during a June 24 portfolio committee session.
The EFF is considering legal action to challenge the appointment process, while the Democratic Alliance has called for an independent probe.
Both Mashatile and Tembe have denied allegations of undue influence.
The controversy has reignited debates about transparency and potential state capture in South Africa’s governance.

Suge Knight has made many allegations about the murder of Tupac Shakur, and some folks even allege that he was responsible.
Suge Knight recently sat down for a new PEOPLE interview in which he makes many allegations concerning the tragic death of Tupac Shakur. Among the many shocking claims in this conversation, one of the most interesting revolves around the final hours of 2Pac on this Earth.
As caught by The Neighborhood Talk on Instagram, Suge recalled the fatal 1996 Las Vegas shooting that eventually took the Oakland legend’s life. When the Death Row boss saw him, he was still awake and allegedly cracking jokes about wanting a blunt and Hennessy. However, things eventually got worse that night, and ‘Pac was breaking down in pain, exhaustion, and fear over going back to prison.
Then, Knight alleged, Shakur asked his colleague to “kill” or “shoot” him, since he thought self-harm would block him from heaven. Then, his mother Afeni Shakur allegedly gave Tupac pills according to Suge Knight, and told doctors to not bring him back if he succumbed. Suge called this alleged choice from Afeni the hardest one in the world, but he claims it was out of love.
Also, Suge Knight made allegations about Tupac Shakur’s remains after his passing. “He told me, ‘When I go, I want every rapper at my funeral to grab the mic. I want them to kiss me head to toe. Just like in ‘Life Goes On,'” he alleged. However, Afeni Shakur allegedly wanted him cremated, and Suge allegedly paid a million dollars in cash to expedite the process.
Then, Knight alleged, some of ‘Pac’s friends smoked his ashes. “I was so happy to say I was on probation, I couldn’t smoke,” he alleged. “I was probably the only one who didn’t hit him. […] You got to understand, that’s what made sense. It was symbolic. It’s like… You keep part of him.”
Elsewhere, Suge Knight’s accusations about Tupac’s murder connect to those allegedly responsible for it. Suge has his own allegations in this regard. But he instead pointed the alleged blame at Snoop Dogg and Shakur’s alleged killer Duane “Keefe D” Davis, who will face trial eventually for this tragic murder and is currently behind bars
Clayton Howard, a male escort linked to Sean “Diddy” Combs in the ongoing federal investigation, has filed a civil lawsuit against both Diddy and singer Cassie Ventura, alleging years of abuse, s3xual exploitation, and physical and psychological harm.
Howard, who says he operated under the alias “Dave” while being employed for what prosecutors have described as “freak-offs” involving Diddy and Cassie, claims he was trafficked across state lines from 2009 for over five years as part of what he characterizes as a pattern of s3xual exploitation. In his lawsuit, obtained by TMZ, Howard alleges that Cassie gave him a s3xually transmitted disease and later aborted a pregnancy without informing him, while continuing to engage in unprotected s3x with him.
The lawsuit accuses Diddy and Cassie of drugging, coercing, and manipulating Howard during what he describes as a “toxic, domestically abusive” relationship between the two celebrities. Howard claims he was repeatedly traumatized, used as s3xual entertainment, and forced into degrading acts. He alleges that Cassie pressured him into taking ecstasy and performing prolonged acts of m@sturbation, which resulted in physical injury including “tears, skin peeling and scabbing.”
Howard is one of seven male escorts referenced by federal prosecutors in Diddy’s high-profile s3x trafficking case. Though he did not testify, a federal agent previously described details of Howard’s involvement, including his accommodations at a Four Seasons hotel and flights funded by Diddy. These testimonies were among the evidence that led to Diddy’s conviction for transporting escorts across state lines for prostitution.
Diddy was acquitted on racketeering and broader s3x trafficking charges but remains in federal custody after being denied bail. He faces up to 20 years in prison at sentencing.
Howard is seeking damages for emotional distress, medical expenses, lost wages, and other harm he says he endured as a result of his involvement with Diddy and Cassie.
The High Court sitting in Mpumalanga, South Africa has sentenced a 29-year-old man, Jabulani Nkosi to life imprisonment for the brutal m8rder of his pregnant girlfriend, Boitsoko Khoza, and an additional five years for arson.
Nkosi was convicted of m8rder and arson and sentenced on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Khoza was last seen on 22 November 2023 by a friend. On the same day, she informed her colleagues via WhatsApp that she would not be reporting for duty as she intended to travel to her parental home in Mamelodi.
When she failed to arrive, her family attempted to contact her friends and colleagues.
Her phone was off, and she was subsequently reported missing.
On the morning of 25 November 2023, her flatlet in Evander was set alight. Members of the Govan Mbeki Fire Brigade responded and extinguished the fire, only to discover her burned body inside the flat.
A post-mortem examination revealed that Khoza had been severely assaulted, sustaining multiple rib fractures and stab wounds before her body was set alight. It was also established that she was ten weeks pregnant at the time of her d3ath.
Nkosi was arrested after confiding in friends about the k!lling.
Senior State Advocate Themba Lusenga led compelling evidence, including testimony from eyewitnesses, fire experts who investigated the scene, and a local businessman who testified that the accused had sold him the deceased’s cellphone for R650.
In aggravation of sentence, the court heard a Victim Impact Statement from the deceased’s mother, detailing the emotional trauma and devastating impact on the family.
The court found the murder to be brutal and inhumane. Advocate Lusenga argued that the accused had shown no remorse and failed to explain his actions.
The State also emphasised the prevalence of gender-based violence (GBV) in society and the aggravating factor that the deceased was pregnant at the time of her death.
The court sentenced Nkosi to Life imprisonment for murder and five years’ imprisonment for arson.
The court ordered the sentences to run concurrently, meaning Nkosi will effectively serve life imprisonment. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
“The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the sentence and expresses its satisfaction with the outcome. The NPA remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring justice for victims of gender-based violence and supporting survivors and their families throughout the legal process,” NPA added.
The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old woman, Augustina Adoma, for allegedly setting fire to her ex-boyfriend’s kiosk and st@bbing him him in the chest following a confrontation over another woman.
The incident occurred on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at Sowutuom, a suburb of Accra.
The Ghana Police Service in a statement on Wednesday, July 2, said the suspect was formerly in a relationship with the victim, Emmanuel Otabil, a 30-year-old driver.
Police said Adoma allegedly went to Otabil’s residence uninvited at about 9:00 a.m. and found him with another woman.
She reportedly poured water on both of them and took away the victim’s Samsung mobile phone.
Later that day, around 4:00 p.m., she is said to have returned to the victim’s premises while he was away.
Using a duplicate key, she allegedly entered his kiosk and set fire to his belongings, including a mattress, blankets, and bed sheets.
That evening, Otabil reportedly confronted Adoma about the incident and demanded the return of his phone. During the argument, she allegedly picked a knife from a nearby orange seller and st@bbed him in the left side of the chest.
Otabil was initially rushed to Race Course Hospital and later transferred to Lapaz Community Hospital and subsequently to the University of Ghana Medical Centre, where he underwent emergency surgery. He is currently receiving treatment and responding to care.
Police investigations led to Adoma’s arrest at the Tesano Police Station, where she had gone to file a separate complaint related to an assault. The victim’s phone was retrieved from her at the station.
“The case remains under investigation,” a police statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng of the Accra Regional Public Affairs Unit stated.
The statement urged the public to refrain from acts of revenge, particularly in domestic disputes, and advised that grievances be resolved through legal and peaceful means.
Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen has reportedly rejected a bid from Turkish club Galatasaray, who are ready to activate his €75 million release clause and offer a substantial wage package.
Osimhen’s decision, first reported by Gazzetta dello Sport and relayed by multiple European outlets, signals his continued focus on a potential move to the English Premier League, where he is said to have long harboured ambitions of playing.
“There is no agreement between his desires and reality,” the Gazzetta report noted, referencing Osimhen’s preference for the Premier League over other options currently available to him.
The 26-year-old forward recently completed a high-scoring loan spell at Galatasaray, netting 37 goals across competitions.
Despite his prolific form, Napoli have no interest in reintegrating him into the squad ahead of the new season. The Serie A side is reportedly waiting for formal offers from clubs outside Italy.
Manchester United are understood to be one of the clubs monitoring Osimhen’s situation.
According to The People’s Person, the Premier League side continues to view Osimhen as a serious transfer target, though financial constraints, including his €12 million annual wage demand remain a major stumbling block.
Reports from Corriere del Mezzogiorno suggest that United still maintain an appeal for Osimhen despite not qualifying for European competitions next season.
Meanwhile, Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal have reportedly submitted a contract offer valued at €40 million per year. But Osimhen, according to Il Napolista, has yet to accept, with sources indicating he remains focused on securing a move to England.
Napoli’s €75 million release clause, active until 15 July, remains central to any potential deal.
The bodies of Diogo Jota and his brother, André Silva have arrived at a church in Portugal ahead of their funeral.
Mourners will gather early this morning to pay their respects at a wake in Gondomar after Jota, 28, and his sibling d!ed in a fiery crash on Thursday, July 3.
Jose Manuel Macedo, the local parish priest, said the wake would take place at 8am at the nearby Capela de Ressurreicao before their funeral at the Igreja Matriz, the Catholic church next door, on Saturday morning at 10am.
‘We’re available to celebrate [their life] with everyone and to share the pain and the Christian hope,’ Macedo told CNN.
The tyre of Jota’s Lamborghini Huracan is said to have blown out while overtaking another vehicle on the A-52 at Cernadilla near Zamora, just ten miles over the border from Portugal. The supercar then came off the road, rolled, and burst into flames.
The crash, which took place at around 12.35am, also ignited the surrounding vegetation. The emergency services were called but the brothers could not be saved.
Jota and his brother Andre, 26, were reportedly on a road trip to Santander to catch a ferry to Britain after he was advised not to fly following lung surgery.
Spanish government official Angel Blanco said the siblings d!ed at the scene.
This morning’s wake will take place just a half-hour drive from Jota’s home city of Porto, northern Portugal – where just two weeks ago the 28-year-old married his childhood sweetheart Rute Cardoso in a service packed with family and friends.
Zanu-PF Explains Why Kuda Tagwirei Was Asked to Leave Central Committee Meeting
Zanu-PF has cleared the air on why businessman Kuda Tagwirei was told to leave what was meant to be his first Central Committee meeting, following a wave of online speculation.
Social media users claimed Tagwirei had been booted out by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga amid rumours of deepening tensions within the ruling party. But Zanu-PF’s director of Information and Publicity, Farai Marapira, has downplayed the drama.
Zanu-PF Explains Why Kuda Tagwirei Was Asked to Leave Central Committee Meeting Speaking to 263Chat, Marapira confirmed that Tagwirei was indeed asked to leave the meeting held on Thursday, 3 July 2025, but insisted it was nothing personal. He explained that Tagwirei, along with other new nominees, was asked to step aside because their appointments had not yet been officially approved.
“It’s true Cde Kudakwashe Tagwirei and other prospective members of the Central Committee were asked to excuse themselves from the meeting as their issue had not been ratified, finalised. It was not just him alone,” Marapira said.
He went on to say that Tagwirei’s entry into the Central Committee had merely been postponed to allow the party to focus on more pressing matters.
Co-Option Delayed to Focus on Other Matters
According to Marapira, there’s a clear process that needs to be followed: once provincial executives recommend a candidate, the nomination must still be ratified by the Central Committee itself before the person can take part in meetings.
“The issue was postponed to a later date as some more important issues took precedence. It was not on the agenda. It’s a technicality. The process is that after some recommendations by provincial executives, party members who are being co-opted into the Central Committee have to wait until their issues have been ratified first before they are admitted and can attend,” Marapira added.
Tagwirei had been nominated by Zanu-PF’s Harare Province, but until the Central Committee signs off on that nomination, he isn’t allowed to participate, a rule that applies to all others in the same position.
A prominent Zimbabwean journalist was detained Wednesday over a satirical article critical of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, a move that media groups have condemned as another attack on freedom of expression.
Faith Zaba, editor of the Zimbabwe Independent newspaper, was charged by prosecutors who allege her article, titled “When you become mafia state,” published under the paper’s muckraker column, undermined the authority of the 82-year-old president.
“The contents of the article are false in material and designed to engender feelings of hostility by the citizens of Zimbabwe towards the president,” prosecutor Takudzwa Jambawu told a magistrate’s court in Harare.
Zimbabwe detains journalist over satirical piece
Zaba, 55, was ordered detained until Thursday, July 3, when the court will decide on bail. Her lawyer, Chris Mhike, expressed disappointment that she was spending a second night in jail despite having an illness.
Rights campaigners and media organizations have criticized Zimbabwe’s recent crackdown on civil society, accusing the government of weaponizing the law to silence dissent. Earlier this year, a journalist was jailed for over 70 days on charges of inciting violence after interviewing a critic calling for Mnangagwa’s resignation.
The Zimbabwe Union of Journalists condemned the detention, calling for Zaba’s immediate release. “Satirical commentary, whether critical or humorous, is protected speech and should not be criminalised,” the union said in a statement.
The Media Alliance of Zimbabwe echoed these concerns, stating the arrest reflected how press freedom was “becoming more and more disrespected.”
Amnesty International also condemned the detention, describing it as part of a pattern to use the justice system to suppress free press. “Journalism is not a crime. Authorities must allow journalists to carry out their work freely, safely and without fear of harassment, intimidation or reprisals,” said Khanyo Farise, the group’s southern Africa researcher.
Zimbabwe ranks 106th out of 180 countries in Reporters Without Borders’ press freedom index.
Peru’s highly unpopular President Dina Boluarte has doubled her salary, the government announced Wednesday, July 2.
The 63-year-old head of state, who faces protests against an explosion of gang violence in the country, will now receive the equivalent of $10,000 per month, according to an official decree.
The statement comes after the presidency denied reports in May saying Boluarte was going to get a pay raise.
Economy Minister Raul Perez-Reyes said the new salary figure was determined after a comparison with the salaries of heads of state from twelve Latin American countries.
Until the change, Boluarte’s salary had ranked 11th, only ahead of that of the Bolivian president.
With Boluarte’s approval rating hovering around 2 percent in May, the announcement did not go over well.
“This is the worst time to announce this news, given her approval ratings are close to zero,” economist Jorge Gonzáles Izquierdo said on N television.
According to former Economy Minister Luis Miguel Castilla, the measure “reinforces the impression of frivolity” surrounding the president.
Protests greeted Boluarte’s rise to power in December 2022, and have marked her entire term — joined by assorted scandals, investigations, controversies and a surge in gang violence.
She is the target of a dozen probes, including one for her alleged failure to declare gifts of luxury jewels and watches, a scandal inevitably dubbed “Rolexgate.”
Sean “Diddy” Combs’ lawyers expect him to get a two-year prison sentence following his conviction on two counts of transportation to engage in pr0stitution, which was handed down on Wednesday, July 2.
The sentence is much less than the 51 to 63 months sentence that prosecutors have recommended.
The two sides addressed Combs’ potential sentence in separate letters to the judge overseeing the case. Combs has already spent 10 months in custody.
Combs was acquitted on Wednesday morning of the more serious charges of s£x trafficking and racketeering conspiracy.
He was accused of sex trafficking two of his former girlfriends, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, and a woman who testified under the pseudonym “Jane” and of forcing them to participate in drug-fueled s£x sessions with male escorts that he called “freak offs” or “hotel nights.” Combs had denied all the charges and said that the sexual acts were consensual.
In their letter to U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian, Combs’ attorneys promised the judge overseeing his federal case that he will not contact escorts or prostitutes if he is released on bond. His attorneys asked that he be released on a $1 million bond, co-signed by his mother, sister and Sarah Chapman, the mother of his oldest daughter, Chance.
Prosecutors asked the judge not to set bail, saying in their letter to Judge Subramanian that Combs remains a danger to the community because he could still commit prostitution crimes and because in June 2024, three months before his arrest and while he was aware he was under federal investigation — he allegedly “brutally assaulted” Jane. And, they alleged, when he was in New York City awaiting his arrest last year, he was in possession of drugs and materials associated with a “Freak off.”
But Combs’ lawyers rejected the government’s suggestion that he could still be a danger because “he still had the means and ability to commit prostitution crimes.”
“With all due respect, that suggestion is unsupported,” Combs’ attorneys wrote. “The government had, for an extended period of time, a pen register on his phone. Mr. Combs never called any potential escorts or prostitutes, nor did he make any effort to arrange meetings with escorts or prostitutes, nor was he with Jane in New York.”
Combs’ attorneys wrote that reasonable conditions would ensure that he would not have the ability to arrange meetings with escorts.
Combs could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison on the transportation for pr0stitution charges, 10 years for each charge.
A consortium led by Wales legend Gareth Bale has reportedly submitted a £40million bid to buy Welsh side Cardiff City.
Bale has been in the market to buy a club, having been linked with a move to try and take over Plymouth Argyle, but the sales did not materialise.
Current Cardiff owner Vincent Tan has expressed his desire to sell the club, and is open to selling to Bale.
According to The Times, a bid has now been submitted, with Bale backed by US investors.
The Wales legend spoke publicly for the first time about his bid to take over the League One club as part of a consortium at the European premiere of F1: The Movie in London at the end of June.
Bale, 35, retired from football two years ago after a stellar career in which he won five Champions Leagues with Real Madrid and 111 caps for his country.
‘We are interested in getting Cardiff,’ Bale said last month. ‘It’s my home club, it’s where I grew up and my uncle [Chris Pike] used to play for them.
To be involved with an ownership group would be a dream come true.
‘It’s a club close to my heart. It’s where I grew up and I would love to be able to be a part of growing Cardiff and taking it to the Premier League where it belongs.
‘I know how amazing the Welsh fans and Cardiff fans are. It would be amazing to try and do something together.’
‘We are trying to engage with Cardiff and more news will come out on that in the future but hopefully we can get something done.’
Harare Teen Arrested For Trying to Sell Human Foetus as Beef
A 19-year-old man has been arrested in Harare’s Central Business District for allegedly attempting to sell a human foetus, claiming it was beef.
Harare Man Arrested For Selling Human Foetus as Beef According to a statement posted on their official X account, police said Stelly Marecha was arrested on Friday, 4 July 2025, after he tried to sell the foetus to another man.
“Police in Harare arrested Stelly Marecha (19) in connection with a case of violating a corpse. The suspect allegedly picked a human foetus, which was wrapped in a black plastic bag in a bin at the corner of Mbuya Nehanda and Albion Streets, Harare CBD. He attempted to sell the remains to a 27-year-old man, claiming that it was beef,” reads the police statement.
Authorities say they are now investigating the origin of the foetus and are calling on the public to help them find the person who disposed of it.
“Meanwhile, the ZRP is appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of the suspect responsible for disposing of the foetus,” police said.
Zimbabweans React After Man is Nabbed The news triggered horror and disbelief online, with many people expressing how disturbed they were by the case. Some questioned what was really being sold as meat in informal markets, while others said this confirmed why they had stopped eating beef or pork. A few even joked nervously, calling the act “boiled witchcraft.”

Ray J has been vocal with his support for Diddy throughout the Bad Boy founder’s entire legal battle so far.
Diddy’s trial finally came to a close yesterday, and the mogul was acquitted of charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. He was found guilty of two counts of transportation for prostitution, which carry a maximum sentence of 20 years combined. Diddy could have been looking at a much longer sentence had things played out differently, meaning he and his loved ones are breathing a collective sigh of relief at this point.
Not everyone is pleased with the verdict, however. Ray J, for example, said that he thinks he should have been let entirely off the hook during a recent chat with TMZ. He argued that Diddy’s alleged actions were consensual, and that he shouldn’t have to spend time behind bars because of them.
He even predicted that the Bad Boy founder would be released yesterday, which was not the case. Judge Arun Subramanian denied his request for bail, meaning he’ll remain in prison at least until his October sentencing. “I’ve read the parties submissions and others. The jury convicted the defendant of Counts 3 and 5. For the following reasons, bail is denied,” Judge Subramanian said.
Ray J isn’t the only person who’s not entirely satisfied with the verdict either. Some of Diddy’s alleged victims have also come forward since it was announced, making it clear that they’re disappointed. This includes Dawn Richard, who released a statement yesterday via her lawyer Lisa Bloom.
“Today’s split verdict is a disappointment, but the criminal charges are different than the civil claims we filed and have been fighting against Sean Combs,” it reads. “We will continue to aggressively fight our case until we obtain full and complete justice for Dawn.”
Aubrey O’Day also shared her reaction to the verdict on her Instagram Story. “Oh my God, not guilty on Cassie, not guilty on Rico, no way that Jane is gonna be guilty,” she said. “This makes me physically ill. Cassie probably feels so horrible. Ugh, I’m gonna vomit.”
Tory Lanez’s father, Daystar Peterson, insists the powers that be know his son’s case was an alleged “hatchet job.”
It’s been over two years since Tory Lanez was convicted of three felony charges related to the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, and his team hasn’t stopped fighting for his freedom. During a recent interview with Power 106, his father Sonstar Peterson provided his supporters with a hopeful update. He suggested that his son might be coming soon sooner than expected. Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2023.
“I wouldn’t go on record giving a date right now, but what I will say is that there are movements happening in the background and the powers that be can clearly see that this was a hatchet job,” he began, as captured by The Shade Room. “They can see based on the evidence, or should I say lack of. Everybody can see that, and so there are things happening right now.”
“Like I said,” Peterson continued. “I believe it is much sooner than a lot of people think, much sooner than later … He’s coming out, he’s coming home.”
Lanez will be eligible for parole in 2029, and is expected to get out in 2033. This isn’t the first time the public has heard about a potential early release, however. During an appearance on the We In Miami podcast in June, his attorney claimed he could be released by the end of the year.
“For who I am and what I know and the system that I am involved in, Tory Lanez will be freed this year. I just want you to know that,” she said. “It will be soon … Haters are gonna hate but it doesn’t matter.”
Peterson’s latest remarks come just a couple of months after the Canadian performer was stabbed 14 times by another inmate behind bars. He was rushed to the hospital after the attack and was eventually able to make a full recovery. Lanez was later transferred to a different prison.

“As a husband, father, brother, and pillar of strength in the Mabuza family, he will be dearly missed for his love, care, and dedication to the well-being of his family and all those close to him,” the statement read.
They also called him a “humble servant of the people” who spent decades working to improve the lives of South Africans.
A Life of Public Service
Reflecting on his career, the family said Mabuza viewed his political work as a way to drive lasting change:
“For him, his participation in the struggle for freedom and democracy was a critical platform to transform the lives of ordinary people for the better.”
Nationwide Outpouring of Condolences
The family expressed gratitude for the many messages of sympathy:
“As a family, we are humbled by the outpouring of messages expressing condolences, love and support from individuals across the country and beyond our borders.”
Memorial and funeral arrangements are expected to be shared soon.
Blac Chyna, also known as Angela White, has called off her engagement to songwriter Derrick Milano.
Recall that the duo got engaged in October 2024 at Howard University’s homecoming celebration. The pair had been dating for over a year before the engagement.
In a recent Instagram post, Angela White announced she had parted ways with Derrick Milano, but will maintain a positive relationship with him.
Despite the split, the reality star believes God’s guidance is leading them on the right path as they go their separate ways.
Her post reads, “After much prayer and reflection, Derrick and I have decided to call off the engagement. We love each other deeply and are still good friends, but we both believe that God’s guidance has shown us this is the right path for both of us as we continue each other’s journeys. May we find peace and fulfillment in his divine will. Trusting that his plan is greater for us”.
This is not Blac Chyna’s first engagement to be called off. She was previously engaged to Rob Kardashian, but they broke up in 2017. She also had a previous engagement to Tyga.
Nico Williams has signed a new contract with Athletic Bilbao despite having been heavily linked with Barcelona.
The Spain international Williams, 22, renewed his contract with the Basque club until 2035.
Barcelona had reportedly agreed contractual terms with Williams but wanted to pay the transfer fee in installments, which the club declined.
Upon signing his new deal, Williams said: ‘When decisions have to be made, for me, what weighs most is the heart. I’m where I want to be, with my people, this is my home. Aupa Athletic!’
Since breaking into Athletic’s first team in 2021, he has made 167 appearances for the club, scoring 31 goals. He was also part of the team which won the Copa del Rey in 2024, ending a 40-year major trophy drought.
He won the Copa Del Rey with Athletic in the 2023-24 campaign and is now set to be involved with the club in the Champions League next season.
Williams’ release clause has now increased by more than 50 per cent. It previously stood at €58million (£50million).
Williams has also become a key player for Spain under Luis de la Fuente, earning 28 caps and scoring six goals, one of which came in their Euro 2024 final win against England.
GOVT MOVES TO REPATRIATE LUNGU’S BODY, CITES NO BURIAL WISH IN WILL
By Darius Choonya
The Zambian Government has filed an amended notice of motion in the Pretoria High Court, South Africa, seeking the repatriation and burial of former President Edgar Lungu in Zambia.
In its submission, the government argues that the late President Lungu did not specify in his will how or where he wished to be buried.
It further contends that, as a beneficiary under the Former Presidents’ Benefits Act, it should be presumed that he intended to be given a state funeral in accordance with Zambian customs and traditions.
The state maintains that Mr. Lungu’s acceptance of benefits under the Act should be interpreted as an expression of his burial wishes.
Additionally, the government argues that Mr. Lungu was never disqualified from receiving those benefits, as outlined in Section 5(2) of the Act. Instead, it explains that his entitlement was merely suspended when he re-entered active politics, and that suspension ceased upon his death.
As a result, the state asserts that it regained the right to provide a state funeral, fully funded and conducted in line with national customs and traditions.
PRESIDENT HICHILEMA SHOULD NOT ATTEND LUNGU’S FUNERAL, FAMILY INSISTS
FAMILY spokesperson for the late former president Edgar Lungu says that President Hakainde Hichilema should not be part of the funeral according to the family.
Makebi Zulu said the family of the late president does not want President Hichilema and Government to be in charge of the funeral in Zambia but let the family take the lead.
“The family is against President Hichilema taking a lead, because the funeral is not a Presidential funeral, it’s a state funeral and the President is not the state, the very insisting that he is doing goes against the wish of the family, and for that being the position there will be no compromise,” he said.
Speaking when he featured on SABC news, Face the Nation programme in South Africa, Zulu said the family of the deceased are not against burying the remains of Lungu in Zambia but are against the government taking charge in putting him to rest.
He added that the family’s only wish is giving a dignified send off of Lungu who died on June 5, 2025 in South Africa but is yet to be buried due to the impasse between the Lungus and Government.
Zulu said the position undertaken by the family to bury in south Africa is because the government failed to honour the agreement made with the family.
“The duty of the State is to ask the family how they want to mourn and what role [government ] they can play in the whole thing, the government has come with a view that they are entitled with the body of the president.”
“The family is not fighting with the government but the government is the one fighting with the family because they have gotten the issue as one to be propaganda, wanting to avoid embarrassment and not to look at the interest of the family,” Zulu said.
Zulu said it was possible for the body to buried in Zambia but the family nol onger trusts the government after they broke the promise they agreed on.
“After President Edgar Lungu died, we engaged into negotiations with the Government of Zambia, most of the things we could agree [but] government would sometimes change their mind especially on issues that were a concern to the family and the deceased before he died.”
“And just when we thought we had reached middle ground then there was a part of government having changed its position,” he said.
Zulu added that the family is expecting no guarantees from the state for Lungu to be buried in Zambia especially that the national mourning which was supposed to end on June 23, was cancelled on June 18.
According to Zulu, when President Hichilema said it could be an embarrassment to bury the body in South Africa, it brought a picture that they don’t care about the family.
“It is the government wanting to look good, not embarrassing themselves in this particular negotiations,” Zulu said.
Furthermore, Zulu said there was no need for President Hichilema to attend the funeral because it is not a presidential funeral but a State funeral
We Didn’t Sign An Agreement With Sangwa For Him To Claim HH Has Betrayed Him – UPND
The United Party for National Development (UPND) has distanced itself from Constitutional Lawyer John Sangwa’s claims that President Hakainde Hichilema has betrayed him. UPND Deputy Spokesperson Elvis Nkandu stated that there was no agreement between the party and Sangwa that would suggest Hichilema’s actions were a betrayal.
Sangwa recently appeared on ‘Millennium Tonight’ where he said he would not vote for President Hichilema in 2026 because he had betrayed him. Nkandu emphasized that the UPND did not enter into any agreement with Sangwa that would imply Hichilema’s betrayal.
The party maintains that they informed Zambians about their intention to amend the Constitution during their 2021 campaigns, which is likely the source of Sangwa’s grievances.
The development has sparked debate, with some questioning Sangwa’s motives and others supporting his stance.
Our friends in the UPND and its government want everyone to fear ans sing praise songs even when there is no praise to sing about. For them checks and balances mean praising their leaders. They seem to have the misconception that checks and balances means praising Mr. Hakainde Hichilema. From our observations, they actually have no clue what checks and balances entail.
We urge them to go to the archives and check whether Mr Hichilema and the UPND were praise singers for the previous governments including the recent one of Mr Lungu.
Did Mr Hichilema ever praise any previous government for anything? Did Mr Hichilema recognise Mr Lungu as president? Why do they want to change the rules of the game for opposition now that they are in power? They want everyone to fear and praise him?
Zambia is not a dictatorship in which everyone should think, dream and view the world in the same way.
Our politics are about plurality and diversity. Even our Christianity is not about united voicing Bible verses like John 3:16 or speaking the Lord’s Prayer in unison. Division, not unity, is a significant theme in the Bible.
Prophet Jeremiah, from the Old Testament, was persecuted for saying what God told him to speak to the people. As a prophet of God, Jeremiah, was opposed for saying what people did not want to hear from God. Lies and gossip may be more popular than the truth. Should we shut up or speak up about what is harmful to society?
As Christians, Jesus warns us that saying and living what Jesus said and did will result in our persecution. We will be persecuted because, “A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher and the servant like his master.” Jesus warned his disciples that if they have called him Beelzebub, or Satan, how much more will they malign them.
Jesus warned his disciples that they should not fear persecution for speaking His words. They will prove true even if those offended by them reject them. Jesus and his words are meant for the good of others, even if they sting.
Persecution, beatings, being placed in jail, or fed to lions will harm or kill your body, but it is God who saves your souls for heaven, not other people. We fear others and things we cannot control, but God is to be feared above all else.
A COFFIN IN THE COURTROOM: WHAT COULD HAPPEN NEXT IN THE LUNGU BURIAL SAGA
A man has died—but instead of resting in peace, his body has become the centre of a legal and political tug-of-war. The funeral that was supposed to bring unity has now brought confusion.
So where is this drama heading? What are the likely outcomes? What do they mean for our country—especially with 2026 elections just around the corner?
Let’s walk through FOUR possible scenarios.
SCENARIO 1: A GRACEFUL COMPROMISE
This is the best-case scenario. The family, the government, and the church put aside pride and politics. They agree to bring the late president’s body back home. There’s a proper state funeral at Embassy Park, and the current president attends quietly and respectfully—no speeches, no insults, just dignity.
What happens next?
Zambians breathe a sigh of relief. The tension reduces. Focus returns to real issues—like the price of mealie meal, the economy, etc. Both sides earn respect for maturity. This moment becomes one of healing, not division.
What does it mean for 2026?
UPND may gain trust as peacemakers. PF may gain sympathy for showing humility. But most importantly, voters will reward whichever side talks sense about their daily lives, not about graves.
SCENARIO 2: A PROLONGED COURT BATTLE
This is already happening. The funeral is on hold because of court orders in South Africa. If the court processes drag on for months, the family may keep the body in South Africa while lawyers argue.
What happens next?
The public gets tired. Every week it’s headlines about “injunctions,” “applications,” and “state versus family.” People stop caring. They begin to feel both sides are playing games with the dead. The story starts to rot—like any body kept too long above the ground.
What does it mean for 2026?
PF may use it to say “our leader was disrespected.” But the longer the fight continues, the more voters may say, “You are not ready to lead; you are still fighting over the past.” UPND may appear focused and in control—but only if they avoid bitterness.
SCENARIO 3: A FLASHPOINT PROTEST
This is the dangerous path. Suppose a group of PF supporters decides to hold a funeral on their own terms. Or a public gathering turns into a riot. Or youths clash with police. One wrong move, one spark—and violence erupts.
What happens next?
Zambia’s peace is shaken. International headlines scream: “Chaos in Lusaka Over Funeral Dispute.” Investors panic. Families keep their children indoors. The burial becomes a battlefield, not a send-off.
What does it mean for 2026?
The public may blame PF for provoking trouble—or blame the government for failing to prevent it. Either way, voters will lean towards the side that promises peace and order. In times of fear, people vote for calm, not chaos. Just like in 2021 when they voted out cadres.
SCENARIO 4: THE BODY STAYS IN SOUTH AFRICA
Let’s say the family stands firm and the court allows them to bury Lungu privately in South Africa. No state funeral. No parade. No Embassy Park. Just a quiet send-off far from home.
What happens next?
The family gets closure. The government moves on. But emotions remain high—especially among PF loyalists, who will carry that pain into 2026 like a wound that never healed.
What does it mean for 2026?
PF turns Lungu into a martyr. “They chased our president even in death,” they will say. “Vote for us to restore dignity.” It becomes a campaign message. But again—will that message feed anyone’s family? Will it fix the load-shedding? If PF focuses only on emotions and forgets about real solutions, the sympathy may not translate into votes.
TRUTH BE TOLD
We are a country of strong opinions and deep emotions. But this moment calls for something more powerful than pride—it calls for maturity. Zambians know how to argue, yes. But we also know how to forgive, how to move on, and how to do what is right for the future.
A coffin is not a campaign poster. A funeral is not a battlefield.
May those leading both sides remember that before we all pay a price too high to bear.
KABWATA MP THREATENS TO SUE HOT FM AFTER CALLER ACCUSES HIM OF CORRUPTION
4th July 2025
KABWATA UPND MP Andrew Tayengwa has threatened to sue Hot FM after a caller accused him of corruption and nepotism.
But Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana has defended the station, insisting that Hot FM cannot be blamed for the allegations made by the caller.
During the breakfast show on Thursday, callers were asked to rate the performance of their MPs in various constituencies.
A caller who introduced himself as someone from Kabwata Constituency accused Tayengwa of giving CDF contracts to people he knew, and soliciting a kickback of K50,000.
However, when given an opportunity to respond to those allegations during the same programme, Tayengwa accused the radio station of flouting IBA rules and threatened legal action….
What started as a national mourning moment has unraveled into a standoff so raw that Zambia now risks remembering late former Edgar Chagwa Lungu more for this body battle than for his time in State House.
Family spokesperson Makebi Zulu’s latest line is blunt: President Hakainde Hichilema should not attend the burial when that day comes. The argument? This is not a Presidential funeral, it is a State funeral, and the President is not the State. It is a provocative statement, but not an isolated one. It is the clearest sign yet that the trust between the Lungus and the government is broken beyond polite words.
So What is This Really About?
At face value, it is about respect. The family believes the government has betrayed multiple promises, changed positions overnight and is determined to hijack the moment to appear magnanimous when relations have long soured. They point to an abandoned national mourning plan, contradictory statements and what they see as disrespect for the family’s right to lead the farewell.
But deeper under the surface, the politics are suffocating the family’s grief. In Patriotic Front circles, wild narratives swirl that the State wants to perform “rituals” if given full custody of the remains. Yet Zambia has buried two Presidents under the PF’s own watch. Michael Sata was laid to rest with full State care at Embassy Park. Kenneth Kaunda, whose family had its own difficult negotiation with the State, was buried at the same official shrine. There were no ritual stories then.
So what changed? Some of Lungu’s most loyal handlers see the coffin as the final chess piece. They fear the optics of Hichilema’s administration leading the burial while the PF remains politically battered and divided. Add unverified allegations of poisoning and conspiracy, and the paranoia multiplies.
A Nation Tired Of Funeral Politics
On June 5, many Zambians posted Lungu’s portraits as profile pictures. Some wept openly for a man they saw as fatherly despite his flaws. A month later, the country is drained. No public body viewings. No casket. No confirmed burial site. Just lawyers, affidavits and a family insisting the body will not be used to sanitise any leader’s image.
In a country that loves closure and symbolic unity, the fatigue is real. For ordinary citizens, these courtrooms and TV interviews do not heal. They only stretch grief until it feels transactional. Many are now asking: When does respect for the dead become overshadowed by political theatre for the living?
Where Does This Go?
Pretoria High Court will have the final word. The State’s amended notice is due. The family’s arguments are clear: Lungu’s body is not a trophy to score points with. But if the courts rule that the former president must return for burial under the official system, it will test whether the family will honour that verdict or stand its ground.
Whatever happens, the lesson is sobering. In death, Edgar Lungu has become a reminder of how fragile Zambia’s political trust truly is. This moment is no longer about the man who once ruled the country. It is about how the nation chooses to remember him: with dignity or with accusations, half-truths and ritual fear-mongering that leave a permanent stain.
Citizens First Party Forces Government to Come Clean on Looming US Visa Ban
By Aaron Silungwe, Freelance Reporter
In a compelling demonstration of democratic oversight, the Citizens First (CF) Party has once again proven that meaningful checks and balances are alive in Zambia’s multiparty political landscape. Following an inquiry led by CF’s Chairperson for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Mary Zambezi, Parliament has formally confirmed that the United States Government is contemplating a travel ban on Zambian nationals due to serious lapses in passport security, immigration enforcement, and information sharing.
According to a letter from the Clerk of the National Assembly dated 2nd July 2025, CF’s request for clarity prompted the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to issue an urgent Ministerial Statement. The government revealed that Washington has communicated clear warnings: unless Lusaka addresses these weaknesses within a specified timeframe, Zambian citizens including students, business leaders, and families could soon face sweeping travel restrictions.
The Ministerial Statement tabled before the House painted a sobering picture. The potential ban would not only curtail Zambians’ access to the US but also undermine investor confidence, disrupt bilateral programmes, and tarnish Zambia’s reputation on the world stage. Among the core issues cited were vulnerabilities in the country’s travel document systems, inadequate cooperation on deportations, and poor intergovernmental information exchange.
While the gravity of the situation is undeniable, what stands out is CF’s proactive role in bringing this matter to light. At a time when political theatre often drowns out substantive governance issues, CF has shown that the opposition can and must act as a vigilant watchdog, holding the executive accountable to the Zambian people.
As the nation grapples with the potential fallout, many observers see this episode as a reminder that democracy is strengthened when opposition parties step beyond rhetoric to demand transparency and action. CF’s intervention has not only compelled the government to admit the extent of the problem but has also given Zambians the information they deserve about risks that could affect lives, livelihoods, and Zambia’s standing in the international community.
The ball now squarely lies in the government’s court to urgently address the US’s concerns and avert a crisis that could isolate thousands of ordinary citizens.

Nalolo – July 3, 2025 — Cabinet Office Permanent Secretary (Special Duties), Mr. Kennedy Kalunga, has praised staff at Nalolo Level One District Hospital for maintaining high standards in service delivery during his visit to the facility yesterday.
Mr. Kalunga expressed satisfaction with the availability of essential medicines and the general cleanliness of the hospital. He said the facility reflects government’s commitment to improving healthcare services across the country.
“The staff here are doing an excellent job. It’s encouraging to see such dedication to quality service,” he said.
The visit was part of his ongoing tour of developmental projects in Western Province aimed at monitoring progress and ensuring accountability.
RUSSIA POUNDS KYIV IN BALLISTIC MISSILES ATTACK IN TERROR AND MURDER BLITZ AS TRUMP MAKES NO PROGRESS ON PUTIN CALL.
A wave of Russian drone attacks struck Ukraine overnight just hours after a phone call between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin ended with “no progress at all”.
Explosions rocked Kyiv in the early hours of Friday as air defense units battled drones across both banks of the Dnipro River.
Fires broke out in at least 13 locations across five districts, according to Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration.
The Svyatoshynskyi and Solomanskyi districts were among the hardest hit, with blazes on rooftops and in courtyards, and injuries feared. The barrage came hot on the heels of Trump’s phone conversation with Putin, in which the Russian tyrant reportedly once again refused to back down from his war aims.
“I didn’t make any progress with him at all,” the US President told reporters outside a Washington air base on Thursday.
The nearly hour-long call, which also touched on the Middle East and cultural diplomacy, appeared to achieve little beyond hardened positions.
While Trump emphasized the need to end military hostilities, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said Putin was firm, stating: “Russia will continue to pursue its goals.”
He added that Moscow “will not back down” and is focused on addressing what it calls the “root causes” of the war a thinly veiled reference to NATO expansion and Western military support for Ukraine.
The call took place amid a growing outcry over the US decision to halt some critical arms shipments to Ukraine, including Patriot missiles and precision-guided munitions. Trump defended the pause, blaming his predecessor Joe Biden. He said: “Biden emptied out our whole country giving them weapons, and we have to make sure that we have enough for ourselves.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he hoped to speak with Trump about the weapons pause, warning that the delay could embolden Moscow.
Speaking from Denmark on Thursday, he said: “In Russia, only Putin makes decisions, which is why we need a meeting at the leadership level if we want to have peace.” But peace seemed more distant than ever as the death toll mounted.
In Poltava on Thursday, two people were killed and 47 injured in a Russian airstrike that also ignited a fire at a military draft office — part of what Ukraine called a targeted effort to disrupt its mobilisation efforts.
Another drone attack earlier in the week struck near a recruitment centre in Kryvyi Rih. Meanwhile, Russia claimed to have captured the border village of Milove in Kharkiv region, opening a new front in the northeast. Ukraine has not confirmed the report.
It comes as Ukraine dealt another stunning blow to the Kremlin with the confirmed killing of the deputy commander of Russia’s navy. Major General Mikhail Gudkov was killed in a precision missile strike on a forward command post in Russia’s Kursk region.
Gudkov was hailed a decorated “Hero of Russia” and one of the most senior figures in Putin’s inner circle.
He was assassinated early Wednesday as he met with fellow commanders just 11 miles from the Ukrainian border. The strike reportedly killed a dozen top officers in total and is believed to have been carried out with the aid of “excellent intelligence” on Russian troop movements.
He had been tasked with overseeing a fresh assault on Ukraine’s Sumy region, where 50,000 Russian troops are massed. The general was considered vital to Moscow’s coastal and marine operations and had command of the infamous 155th Naval Infantry Brigade, part of Russia’s Pacific Fleet. His loss is being described as a serious strategic and symbolic blow for the Kremlin.
Sheriff ordered to seize Somizi Mhlongo’s company assets over unpaid salaries
The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) has ordered the sheriff to seize assets from Search Light Pty Ltd, a company owned by media personality Somizi Mhlongo, due to unpaid employee salaries totaling R165,402.62.
The cleaning services firm, directed by Mhlongo and Lindo Maleho, failed to pay workers placed at Transnet in the Carlton Centre, who were unfairly dismissed in April 2025 without warning or a hearing, according to Sunday World.
The CCMA’s enforcement award, issued on June 23, 2025, authorizes the auction of the company’s movable assets to recover the owed wages, plus interest, for April, May, and June.
A former employee stated, “We received no warning or hearing; we were simply let go,” confirming the CCMA’s ruling in their favor.
Thabiso Putswe of the Hetelicca Trade Union praised the decision, noting a separate unfair dismissal claim is pending.
Attempts to reach Mhlongo and Maleho for comment were unsuccessful.
“It Will Be a Mockery for This Administration to Put Him to Rest” – Makebi Zulu.
The family of the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has reiterated its loss of faith in the Zambian government’s handling of funeral arrangements, stating that it would be a “mockery” for the current administration to preside over his burial. Family spokesperson Makebi Zulu, speaking during an interview from Johannesburg, strongly criticized the state’s conduct, which he says has shattered all trust between the government and the former president’s family.
Zulu emphasized that while the family is not outright opposed to Lungu being buried in Zambia, they are deeply concerned about the intentions and conduct of the state. “What is of concern right now is that it will be a mockery for this administration to be the ones to put him to rest, because everything they have done in the recent past has shown that they cannot be trusted,” he said. According to Zulu, the family’s desire is for a dignified send-off, something they believe is impossible under the current circumstances.
The family has accused the government of engaging in public relations theatrics instead of genuine engagement. Zulu referenced a recent incident in which state media reportedly misrepresented the status of the national mourning period, initially suggesting it had ended only to later claim it had been extended. “These are perhaps untrustworthy people we’re dealing with,” Zulu remarked, pointing to a pattern of shifting positions and failed negotiations as evidence of insincerity on the government’s part.
https://youtu.be/17TItTlQ3xA?si=82j2M4wP_S6omev_
Efforts to mediate the matter, including interventions by former presidents and regional leaders have all broken down. Zulu blamed the failure of those discussions on the Zambian government’s repeated reversal of previously agreed-upon terms. “If the government was truthful, they would tell you that there were things agreed upon which the President later changed his mind about. That’s why we’ve failed to move forward,” he stated.
At the core of the standoff is the family’s rejection of President Hakainde Hichilema’s involvement in the funeral. They argue that the President’s insistence on presiding over the ceremony despite the strained relationship and the family’s objections disregards the wishes of the deceased’s kin. “The very insistence that he should be the one to lead the burial goes against the dignity and wishes of the family,” Zulu concluded, making clear that with trust now completely broken, the likelihood of reconciliation remains slim.
NGOMA ADVISES PRESIDENT HICHILEMA TO TRAVEL TO SOUTH AFRICA AND APOLOGIZE TO ECL’S FAMILY
By: Sun FM TV Reporter
The opposition Grassroot Patriotic Party (GPP) has urged President Hakainde Hichilema to personally intervene and negotiate with the family of the late former president Edgar Lungu regarding funeral and burial arrangements.
Speaking in an interview with Sun FM TV News, party president Damiano Ngoma revealed that President Hichilema holds the key to resolving the current impasse, arguing that the government’s current approach has not yielded any positive outcome.
https://youtu.be/17TItTlQ3xA?si=8RQgBj_LYtvaBWsi
He suggests that the head of state should consider travelling to South Africa to engage the Lungu family directly.
Mr. Ngoma has also advised President Hichilema to issue an apology to the former first family over what he termed as perceived persecution and the stripping of Mr. Lungu’s presidential benefits.
He has further appealed to President Hichilema to immediately form a negotiation team, chaired by himself, to lead discussions with individuals who closely worked with Mr. Lungu in order to reach a dignified resolution.
1. Take advantage of the Free and Fair Elections. Once elected, this must be the last free and fair elections ever held. The dictator ensures that no one else gets elected or gets the power they have just ammassed. They take over the election body. This is to ensure that the only elections that should take place are a sham election that guarantees their win.
2. The dictator should frequently exceed the realms of executive power, act outside the law, and act outside the Constitution to get his way and bar or disadvantage opponents.
3. The dictator takes or grabs competing power from other authorities and claim it for himself. Paralyse Parliament and neuter or make complicit the Judicary since the Dictator will not follow the law or his actions must not be stopped or make the Judiciary make orders that cannot be enforced.
4. The dictator goes after the media. He neutralise s and demonises credible media so that nobody trusts the legitimate media. Then, the dictator creates his own pr takes over media that act as echo chambers that tell his only side of the story. The only truth that is told is the dictator’s facts and which he calls “Truth.” Even when it has the word “truth” in it, it’s false.
5. The dictator guts the government and the civil service. No one should do the work that Democracy is supposed to protect.
He Fires all competent people in key positions, accuse them of being loyal to the previous government. Hires only your loyalists, partu members, tribesmates, and family members that in turn, hire only their kind that will not question your work or do what he has to do. Break the civil service, let it look like people do not need it but need only the leader.
6. Weaponise Law Enforcement Agencies. Arrest, detain, and torture the Opposition and Critics of the Dictator. Give similar punishment to human rights defenders and those who are defending the Opposition or Critics or speaking for them. Unleash tax authorities on businesses that the dictator thinks are sympathetic to them. Refuse to pay outsanding payments due to them and NOT give them new government business or contracts.
7. Find people or parties to blame for all that is wrong. The dictator blames them for corruption, debt, poverty, diseases, and unemployment and all society’s problems.
8. Militarise state response and any democratic challenge to the regime must be brutal. Outlaw gatherings. Break up any gathering, protests, picketing, or demonstrations with brutality to instill fear and deter future government.
9. Incentivise and reward state and private violence. Don’t punish police officers or police units that beat, abduct, kill, or disappear people. Call whoever questions this as complicit to the perceived or trumped up charges and crimes of the suspects and if possible punish them too.
10. Now that the people live in fear, left poor, the Dictator repeats the cycle and conducts sham elections to obtain a very thin veneer of international legitimacy from a community of nations and so that gis country is not suspended from bodies such as the United Nations.
When Tongue in Cheek Tribal Insinuations, Hatred, and Deception is Promoted and encouraged by a Head of State.
A FIVE CHAPTER SERIES BY MUHABI LUNGU
Chapter One (i)
One week ago today, On 24th June 2025, on the same day that the Zambian State filed an inadvisable court injunction in South Africa, primarily in order to punish the *Widow* and *Family* of his main, deceased rival, ( my opinion), our ‘unassailable’ President also decided to hold several meetings of self justification. Among the organizations met were the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Executive and a large group of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
In both of these meetings, President HH seemed preoccupied with painting himself as a victim of some “hate’ conspiracy; that all the other Presidents before him were not strongly opposed, when they attempted or changed the republican constitution. That Kenneth Kaunda (KK) and Fredrick Chiluba ( FTJ) both changed the constitution, a year before elections and that neither of them were opposed nor had any “hatred” shown to them
In the meeting with CSOs, in particular, our ‘infallible’ President complained about being **hated* ; that he could “feel it and touch it”, while twiddling his fingers to indicate its heart felt texture and the proximity of this “hate”to him. Guarded though he may have been, the implicit tribal connection of this “hatred,” was as palpable as his explicit verbalization on this matter, on countless other times over the course of the last few years.
The implicit connection between hate and ethnicity was unquestionably clear to a great majority of listeners; people who have since publicly shared their shock and disappointment. Of course, he and all of his supporters will profusely deny it and accuse all of us of precisely providing the evidence to his point *that* *we* ” *hate* ” *him* . However, this complaint of “hatred” and victimization is not new. It has been expressed on several occasions, by the President, over time and with less guardedness.
At a mammoth rally held in Kalomo on 21st May 2025, while campaigning and referring to himself as “Sirakainde”, the President declared that he ” held the keys to power” and that he was ” *permanently* *seated* *to* *the* *thrown* *of* *that* *power* ” and that no one was going to remove him; “that the leadership was theirs and that they should not allow it to be taken away from them.” There can be no denial as to what was being requested for here.
This tongue in cheek subliminal tribal rallying call, deceives no one. Both for those whom the message is intended for and for those whom it is not. We are all able to fully understand what is being communicated and what is being solicited. In this recent case of last week, the exact words of the President were as follows and I quote…
“I have come to notice that in this country, *a* *guy* *like* *me* , is always viewed to be malicious and assessed differently from Presidents before me. Do you want me to justify it? ….YES, there wasn’t this sort of hatred that I can touch, I can feel, because it is HH. It is this animal pariah we don’t like. Why else don’t you like your fellow citizen? *What* *is* *the* *issue* *?*”, He asked.
Of course the insinuation and import of his questions were very clear to me and to most honest observers. Upon seeing and hearing this, I cringed and gnashed my teeth. Subsequently, I genuinely felt injured, insulted and disturbed that a Head of State can use such strong accusatory words, in public, against the Zambian people and in order to claim victimization and sympathy for purposes of casting evil intent on the fundamental right towards his power being checked and balanced. That he can publicly and manipulatively ask rhetorical questions, ostensibly designed to elicit leading and suggestive answers; responses which by themselves may promote suggestive defensive “hatred”. Incredibly frightening.
What does he mean by “a guy like me?” Is he suggesting that ” *a* *guy* *like* *me* ,” whatever that means, is above legitimate criticism. Is he suggesting that we are not to express any objections against his bad governance style; because he is somehow special as opposed to those other presidents who previously held the office? Is he demanding that his poor judgement of human relations be exempt from criticism because of some peculiar and unstated condition?
In an analysis of his perspective and in answer to my questions, I will, over the next week, attempt to unpack what I understand his intentions to be, by saying what he said. What is the possible value and strategy in his accusation of “hatred”, apparently directed to him by his critics.
Let me first begin by evaluating the truthfulness of his statement regarding the lack of strong opposition voices in previous constitutional amendments.
Let me raise my very strong objection to this *low* , *down,* *dirty* *and* *shameful* *telling* *of* *a* *lie* , ( unworthy to be uttered by a President) that there were no voices of strong decent and objection or active opposition forthcoming, by anybody, during constitutional reforms or changes in 1973, 1990, 1996, 2001, 2016 and 2021.
Secondly, I have noticed a dangerous trend in our country, over the last few years, in which expressing an opposing view or strongly disagreeing with someone’s bad behavior is equivalent to “hate.” Clearly, the Head of State believes in the principle that opposing his ideas and actions is hatred. He has firmly stated it so. This belief, now frequently repeated by his followers is not only inimical to democracy but very dangerous and retrogressive towards societal progress. It is the stuff by which dictators are born. Those who want to remain permanently gulued to a seat for which there is no constitutional permanency.
Nevertheless, let me categorically state that the accusation of former Presidents not having been opposed, is either a blatant and deliberate falsehood or grave ignorance of our collective history by its current Head of State. Either way, it is unacceptable dishonesty and disrespect to all of us, to all of the numerous people who risked their jobs, reputations and lives to openly oppose KK, Chiluba and Lungu in their various attempts at changing the constitution.
There can be no dispute or selective memory loss to that fact that aggressive opposition was always the case, in all instances in which constitutional amendments did not originate from popular demand. The opposition was loud, actively voiced, demonstrations held, court actions taken and international lobbing openly pursued. The activities of opposition were in fact so visible and noisy that only a blind and deaf individual could have failed to pick them up.
Only a totally detached individual or a deceitful person can claim ignorance of these events. People who have constantly opposed Constitutional Manipulation, such as Sakwiba Sikota, John Sangwa, Brebnar Changala, Fred M’membe, Lucy Sichone, Fr. Umberto Davoli, Michael Musonda and Samuel Mulafulafu. Catholic clergy such as Fr. Joe Komakoma, Fr. Miya, Fr. Peter Henriot and many other extra ordinary as well as ordinary Zambians too numerous to mention. Many of these individuals are still here to tell the story and have been fighting in opposition to all other Presidents since 1991.
In my personal case, I have been insulted, beaten by the police, tear gassed, arrested and jailed, charged with Treason and Murder, for opposing many of these infractions. My unyielding opposition to contrived manipulation and looming dictatorial tendencies even have contributed to my father, Mkhondo Lungu being unceremoniously fired from being Chief of Protocall and Permanent Secretary.
If HH is ahistorical and if his advisors do not have the courage and decency to put the record straight, in order to encourage him apologize to all those his offensive statement has injured, let me attempt to school him.
This I shall do in the next chapter (ii) to be released on Thursday 3rd of July 2025.
“It’s About Dignity”: Lungu Family Cries Out Over Painful Betrayal by the State.
With sorrow etched deep in every word, the family of late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has broken its silence exposing what they describe as an agonizing experience marked by broken promises, shifting goalposts, and a burial process that has become a national shame rather than a moment of honor.
From Johannesburg, family spokesperson Makebi Zulu fought back emotion as he spoke on behalf of a grieving family that says it feels humiliated, isolated, and stripped of its right to mourn in peace.
“This is not politics. This is about basic human decency,” Zulu said, his voice trembling. “We are mourning a father, a husband, a brother, and a leader. And all we’ve asked for is the space, the sincerity, and the dignity to say goodbye.”
Instead, the family says it has endured a cruel series of betrayals from the Zambian government beginning just a day after the late president passed away on June 5. Initial talks, they say, began in good faith on June 6. But every step forward was met with two steps back. Agreements reached with government leaders were later discarded. Commitments were made then denied.

Even the intervention of regional elder statesmen, such as former Malawian President Bakili Muluzi, was not enough to keep the process from unraveling. “What was agreed between President Hichilema and President Muluzi was later thrown out,” Zulu said, his tone heavy with disbelief. “Every time progress was made, the government changed the terms. Again and again.”
For the family, the pain has gone far beyond bureaucratic confusion it has become personal.
“What hurts the most,” Zulu confessed, “is the deliberate attempt to turn public opinion against us. State-owned and aligned media have painted us as difficult and unreasonable. We are not. We are just broken. We are just a family asking for peace.”
With tears in his heart, Zulu described how the state’s handling of the situation has left the family feeling like strangers in their own country as if their loved one’s legacy was being erased, one headline at a time.
“The body of our father still lies in wait. Not because we are divided. But because each time we come close to honouring his final wishes, those in charge move the goalposts.”
The grief, he said, has been compounded by silence, misinformation, and the sense that the very institutions meant to support them in mourning have instead waged a quiet campaign to shame them.
“We are hurting,” Zulu said quietly. “We are trying to bury a man who gave his life in service of this country, and yet we are being treated as though our pain is a burden.”
His final words were not political they were a raw, human plea to the conscience of the nation.
“We don’t want a spectacle. We don’t want fanfare. We just want a dignified farewell. We want to honour him with the same respect he gave this country whether you loved him or not. He was a father. He was ours. Let us bury him with peace.”
As Zambia watches, and as days turn to weeks with no closure in sight, the question now lingers painfully in the air: will a grieving family be allowed to mourn their loved one in dignity or will politics bury compassion?

Why Have You Insisted on Presiding Over the Funeral of Your Predecessor, Edgar Chagwa Lungu, Despite Being Told Otherwise?
Dear President Hakainde Hichilema,
The passing of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu was a moment that should have united our nation in solemnity, respect, and collective mourning. Yet what we have witnessed instead is controversy, division, and hurt, pain caused by your insistence on presiding over the funeral proceedings despite clear, repeated requests from the deceased’s family that you not be present.
Why, Mr. President? Why would you, as the sitting Head of State, disregard the final wishes of your predecessor and the heartfelt appeals of a grieving family?
This question demands urgent and honest answers.
President Lungu’s dying wish was clear and unequivocal, as conveyed through his family and official spokesperson: you should stay away from the funeral. This was no petty political dispute. It was a deeply personal and solemn request grounded in respect for the deceased and compassion for the family left behind.
Yet you have pressed on, choosing to override that request. This is not merely about protocol or politics. It is a breach of basic decency and respect. It risks turning a sacred moment of mourning into a spectacle of political posturing.
Some will say that as Head of State, you have a duty to be present at the funeral of a former president. While that is true, leadership also demands sensitivity and humility, especially when asked to honor the wishes of the departed and the grieving family. The real question is not whether you should attend, but whether you should insist on presiding when you have been expressly told you are not welcome.
What drives this stubborn insistence? Is it a desire to assert political dominance? An attempt to control the narrative and public perception? Or something more complex, a struggle for legitimacy, a symbolic show of power, or even a deeper cultural or spiritual conflict?
Whatever your reasons, this choice has caused needless pain to a grieving family and distracted the nation from what truly matters: honoring the legacy of a former leader. It has also exposed the fragile state of political civility in Zambia, where respect for the dead and their families can be sacrificed on the altar of ambition.
Your decision to force your presence into this private and sacred space speaks volumes about the current political climate. It signals a troubling disregard for the voices of those most affected and a dangerous prioritization of image over integrity.
Mr. President, it is time to listen, not only to your political advisors or party loyalists, but to the people, the grieving family, and the spirit of respect and dignity that should govern moments like this.
To honor a predecessor is not merely to attend their funeral. It is to respect their final wishes, to offer solace to those left behind, and to demonstrate the maturity and humility that true leadership requires.
The nation deserves answers. The family deserves peace. And you must ask yourself: does presiding over this funeral against clear wishes serve the country or simply your own ambitions?
Until you provide clarity, this question will continue to linger: Why have you insisted on presiding over Edgar Lungu’s funeral despite being told you should stay away?
