“The Return of the King: Lungu’s Unyielding Quest for Power”

“The Return of the King: Lungu’s Unyielding Quest for Power”

In a dramatic twist of fate, despite the Constitutional Court’s ruling that former President Edgar Lungu is ineligible to contest future elections, he remains undeterred, stating that he is the Tonse Alliance’s presidential candidate for the 2026 general elections.

The political climate in Zambia is about to ignite. With 2025 marking the final year of the current government’s term and the United Party for National Development (UPND) seeking to retain power, the stage is set for a high-stakes showdown. The air is thick with tension as the country gears up for what promises to be an electrifying battle for the presidency in 2026.

But in the shadows of this political drama stands the figure of Edgar Lungu, the ex-president who lost the reins of power to Hakainde Hichilema in 2021. Though the law seems to have barred him from returning to the political throne, Lungu is refusing to bow out. In a bold move that could change the course of Zambia’s political future, he has unveiled a mysterious strategy, his so-called ‘Plan B.’ This secretive plan, which he has kept closely guarded, has sparked speculation across the country.

Rumors have been swirling for weeks. Whispered conversations suggest that Lungu has already chosen his candidates for the 2026 election, following a series of covert meetings with opposition leaders. Is Lungu secretly maneuvering behind the scenes, positioning himself for a political comeback? Or is there another twist waiting just around the corner?

In a dramatic Christmas message that sent shockwaves through the political landscape, Lungu took to his Facebook page to address the rumors head-on. “Don’t be mistaken or misled by anyone into thinking I have endorsed anyone as a 2026 presidential candidate,” he declared. “Moreover, Tonse Alliance has not endorsed anyone apart from myself!”

With these words, the former president doubled down on his claim, declaring himself the one and only candidate for the Tonse Alliance. His supporters, both at home and abroad, are being urged to hold strong, to rally behind him as he boldly declared: “Plan B is the only hope and alternative for Zambia.” The message was clear: Lungu is not backing down. His fight for power is far from over.

As the clock ticks towards 2025 and the nation prepares for the defining year that will shape Zambia’s future, all eyes will be on Edgar Lungu. Will he break through the legal barriers that stand in his way? What is the mysterious Plan B that he holds so close? The political stakes have never been higher, and the next chapter in this saga promises to be nothing short of a blockbuster.

Stay tuned. The story is far from over.

SUNDAY CHANDA SPEAKS AGAINST TRIBALISM, CALLS FOR UNITY AND COEXISTENCE

As the year 2024 comes to an end, Kanchibiya Member of Parliament Sunday Chanda has called for unity and coexistence in Zambia, invoking the legacy of the country’s former presidents.

In a statement issued today, Mr Chanda spoke against tribalism urging citizens to desist from any tribal practices, while emphasizing the importance of embracing the ideals of “One Zambia, One Nation” and working together to build a brighter future for the country.

He cited the examples of Zambia’s former presidents – Kenneth Kaunda, Frederick Chiluba, Levy Mwanawasa, Michael Sata, and Rupiah Banda – who all stood for unity, peace, and progress.

“These leaders, despite their differences, shared a common vision for a united and prosperous Zambia, as we move forward, it is crucial that we remember their sacrifices and strive to build on their legacy, he said.

Mr Chanda expressed optimism that Zambians can overcome these challenges by working together and embracing their shared identity.

“I believe that together, we can build a brighter future for ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren, Let us put aside our differences and work towards a common goal, a united, peaceful, and prosperous Zambia”, he added.

He also called on the leaders of today to remain transparent and accountable, while working together to lift the vulnerable and uphold the ideals of peace love and unity.

“To our leaders of today, you carry the torch we once bore, lead with wisdom, humility and a heart for all Zambians. The weight of leadership is heavy but it is also sacred. Remember your time in power is fleeting but your legacy will leave on. Will it be of division or unity, greed or service, or broken promises or fulfilled dreams?”. He asked.

And to the citizens of the country, mr Chanda acknowledged that no leader can build a government without the citizens further urging the citizens to play their part in maintaining peace.

“Play your part on fostering peace, planting seeds of hope and working for a brighter tomorrow, from the the smallest act of kindness to the greatest vision of progress, you have the power to shape the Zambia of your dreams, he encouraged.

ZESCO OUTLINES STRATEGIC PRIORITIES FOR 2025, TARGETS RENEWABLE ENERGY EXPANSION AND REGIONAL CONNECTIVITY

ZESCO Limited Acting Managing Director, Eng. Justin Loongo, has unveiled the company’s strategic priorities for 2025, focusing on stabilizing power supply, renewable energy expansion, and enhancing regional electricity trade. Speaking during the end-of-year media briefing, Eng. Loongo emphasized the power utility’s commitment to infrastructure upgrades and sustainable energy initiatives.

Key Priorities for 2025 First, Infrastructure Upgrades and Power Supply Stabilization. ZESCO plans to improve electricity reliability through ongoing infrastructure upgrades and diversification of power sources. This includes continued collaboration with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and traders to boost national energy capacity. Second, Renewable Energy Expansion. The company will deploy mini-grids, promote Net Metering initiatives, and roll out solar packages to households as part of efforts to mitigate load-shedding and expand access to clean energy. Third, Combatting Vandalism and Strengthening Community Partnerships. ZESCO will work with local communities to address infrastructure vandalism and enhance the security of power supply. Four New Projects and Investments, Chisamba Solar Project (100MW): This project, funded by ZESCO’s subsidiary, Kariba North Bank Extension Power Corporation, is scheduled for completion in 2025.

Kalungwishi Hydropower Project: Utilizing northern Zambia’s abundant rainfall, this project aims to generate up to 244MW at Kundabwika and Kabweulume waterfalls and Chishimba Hydropower Station Rehabilitation: Located in Kasama, the station’s capacity will increase from 6MW to 15MW by 2027, supported by a €41.5 million grant from the German Government through KfW Development Bank.

Regional Connectivity Initiatives, Zambia-Tanzania Interconnector Project (500MW). This transformative initiative will link Zambia to the Eastern Africa Power Pool (EAPP), enhancing regional energy trade. Spanning 912km of 330kV transmission lines, the project is backed by over $295 million in funding from the World Bank, EU, and UK Government. Completion is targeted for Q1 2028. Enhanced Transmission Corridor. In 2024, ZESCO commissioned a second 330kV transmission line connecting Kabwe and Serenje districts. This improvement has bolstered power supply security across five provinces and strengthened the ZTK Interconnector’s Zambian side.

Future Renewable Energy Projects. ZESCO finalized agreements with 20 bidders for 300MW of solar PV projects under its microgeneration scheme. The projects, ranging from 205kW to 5,000kW, are set to commence in 2025.

Eng. Loongo reiterated ZESCO’s goal to position Zambia as a regional electricity hub “Our focus is on sustainable energy solutions and infrastructure that not only meet Zambia’s power demands but also support regional connectivity and trade. With these initiatives, ZESCO is committed to delivering reliable and sustainable electricity to our customers while advancing the country’s development.”
The utility’s 2025 roadmap aligns with Zambia’s broader energy and economic goals, ensuring the nation’s transition to a resilient, low-carbon energy future.

M’MEMBE DEMANDS IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF BLOGGER FRANCIS KAPWEPWE a.k.a ‘WHY ME’

…asks for PROOF OF LIFE

Lusaka… Tuesday December 31, 2024

Socialist Party (SP) President Dr Fred M’membe has demanded for justice and the immediate release of Francis Kapwepwe, popularly known as ‘Why Me’.

Dr M’membe questioned why President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND government continued to go against the law and the promises they made to the Zambian people.

He asked the Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Jack Mwiimbu, and the Inspector General of Police, Graphael Musamba, to explain to the nation the continued and unlawful detention of TikTok blogger Francis Kapwepwe, also known as Why Me, in Livingstone for many months.

Dr M’membe inquired why the young man had been kept in illegal detention for such a long period.

He questioned what grave crime Kapwepwe had committed to warrant this kind of punishment and why there was such cruelty and total disregard for the law.

The SP President said Zambians should not forget that there are people close to President Hichilema, who continue to commit worse cyber crimes, to this very day, without reprimand or punishment.

“We should not forget that there are people close to Mr Hichilema, who have committed worse cyber crimes, and continue doing the same thing to this very day, without reprimand or punishment. In fact, some of these people have actually been rewarded with jobs in the foreign service, and some are presently running Mr Hichilema’s guerrilla media channels, and are engaged in all manner of seditious practices, and maliciously abusing and insulting private citizens, and Mr Hichilema’s political opponents with impunity. They’re simply untouchable. Where is the fairness? Where are human rights? Where is the decency of this government and its leaders?” Questioned Dr M’membe.

“We have said it over and over again, that those who seek equity must come with clean hands. Mr Hichilema and his league must not seek to enforce the law, when they themselves are in bleach of it. It is immoral and a shame that they should treat some citizens of this country like animals rather than humans deserving a chance to live like themselves.”

Meanwhile, Dr M’membe asked what type of leaders would not care or listen to others and where the justice and equality before the law, promised by Mr Hichilema, were.

He demanded an explanation as to why bail had been denied for Kapwepwe and why people were not allowed to visit him in prison.

“Why have they kept the young man in illegal detention for this long? What grave crime has he committed to warrant this kind of punishment? Why this cruelty and total disregard of the law? What type of leaders are these, who do not care or listen to others? Where is the justice and equality before the law Mr Hichilema promised us? Can they explain to the nation why bail has been denied for this young man? And can they also explain why people are not allowed to visit Francis in prison? Is Francis still alive?”

The Mysterious Case of “Why Me”: A Cry for Transparency and Justice

The Mysterious Case of “Why Me”: A Cry for Transparency and Justice

By Joseph Mwiinga Human Rights Activist-NJCI

Francis Kapwepwe, popularly known as “Why Me”, has been languishing in prison in Livingstone, Zambia, for over six months. The most alarming aspect of his detention is that he has never been taken to court, and the government has barred anyone from visiting him. This raises a plethora of questions that demand answers.

What could “Why Me” have done to warrant such treatment? What law did he break? The government’s silence on the matter is deafening, and the lack of transparency is unsettling. Is there something that the authorities are hiding? Is there an invisible hand at play in “Why Me’s” case?

The fact that “Why Me” has been denied access to the courts and his loved ones is a gross violation of his human rights. It is every citizen’s right to a fair trial, and the government’s failure to provide this is a cause for concern.

As the days turn into weeks, and the weeks into months, the questions persist. Is “Why Me” a threat to national security? Is he a danger to society? Or is he simply a victim of circumstance?

The government’s actions, or rather lack thereof, have raised more questions than answers. The people demand transparency and accountability. It is time for the government to come clean and provide answers.

In the meantime, “Why Me” remains incarcerated, his fate hanging in the balance. The uncertainty surrounding his case is a stark reminder of the importance of upholding human rights and the rule of law.

As we call for justice and transparency in “Why Me’s” case, we must also remember that his fate is a reflection of our collective humanity. We must demand better from our leaders and from ourselves. The time for answers is now.

A MOTHERS LOVE SILENCED: Zambia Mourns Dora Nyambe and Her Children’s Unbearable Loss

A MOTHERS LOVE SILENCED: Zambia Mourns Dora Nyambe and Her Children’s Unbearable Loss
The skies over Mkushi wept with the hundreds of mourners as Dora Nyambe, a woman whose heart was larger than life itself, was laid to rest. The world has lost a rare kind of soul, and Zambia, a powerful force of compassion and hope. But for the 13 children she called her own, the loss is too heavy to bear.

In a scene that could break even the hardest of hearts, Dora’s foster children stood by her graveside, their tiny shoulders shaking with sobs as her casket disappeared into the earth. These were not just children she helped; they were her family. Children she plucked from despair, rescued from child marriages, pulled from the streets, and saved from lives devoid of hope.
They have now been left to face a future without the woman who gave them everything.

Dora Nyambe was not just a philanthropist; she was a mother, a teacher, and a savior to over 500 vulnerable children through her school, Footprints of Hope. Her adopted 13 knew her love more deeply than most, but her reach extended far beyond them.
She built her school in the forgotten corners of Mkushi, a place many would overlook, and filled it with children society had turned its back on. They arrived broken—orphans, former child laborers, maids with calloused hands—and left with the ability to read, write, and dream of a better future.

For them, Dora was more than a teacher or benefactor. She was the embodiment of hope, a light in their darkest moments, and the reason they believed life could be different.
Yesterday, that light was extinguished.

The gap Dora has left in Zambia’s charity landscape feels insurmountable. Who will take in the children society forgets? Who will fight for the voiceless and build schools in places where education is a luxury?

Dora’s work was not just about giving; it was about sacrifice. She gave up personal comfort, drained her resources, and fought tirelessly to ensure that no child was left behind. Her death raises questions about the future of her school, her children, and the countless lives she touched.

Thandiwe Mseteka, Dora’s best friend and headteacher at Footprints of Hope, could barely string together words at the funeral. Her sobs echoed the pain of every child now left wondering what life will be without their “mama.”
“I still need you by my side. I can’t manage alone,” Thandiwe cried, her words capturing the collective despair of a community that has lost its guiding light.

As Dora’s casket was lowered into the ground, her 13 children clung to each other, their young faces etched with pain far beyond their years. The schoolyard that had once been a place of joy was now a place of heartbreak, filled with mourners who knew the magnitude of what was lost.

For Zambia, Dora was a symbol of what humanity could be—kind, selfless, and determined. Her legacy demands reflection. Who will rise to fill the void she has left? Who will continue her mission of love?

At just 32, Dora Nyambe has left a legacy that will outlive her short but impactful life. Chief Shaibila’s words at the funeral struck a chord: “Dora the great. She did her part. What are you going to do on earth? Let us emulate her. What legacy are you going to leave behind?”
For the children she has left behind, the pain is raw and immeasurable. But her work, her vision, and her love will continue to echo in their hearts. Dora Nyambe was more than a philanthropist—she was a mother to the motherless, and her absence will be felt for generations to come.
Rest in peace, Dora. You may be gone, but your legacy will never fade.

Zimbabwe Increases Retirement Age: Big Changes for Civil Servants, Soldiers, Doctors and More

Zimbabwe Increases Retirement Age: Big Changes for Civil Servants, Soldiers, Doctors and More

In a significant development that will be welcomed by civil servants and members of the uniformed forces in Zimbabwe, the government has increased the retirement age.

The changes, set to take effect on 1 January 2025, are contained in Statutory Instrument (SI) 197 of 2024 which can be cited as the Public Service (Amendment) Regulations, 2024 (No. 3).

Zimbabwe Extends Retirement Age for Civil Servants
Under the new regulations, civil servants can now work until the age of 70, up from the previous limit of 65. However, upon reaching 60 they can still choose early retirement by giving a three-month notice.

“…before the effective date, may have a pensionable age of sixty-five years with option to retire at seventy-years on full pension: Provided that any retirement after the year of sixty-fifth anniversary and before the seventieth anniversary shall be deemed to be early retirement; or on or after the effective date, shall have a pensionable age of seventy years,” part of the SI reads.

Zimbabwe Increases Retirement Age for Soldiers
The retirement age for regular soldiers is now 55, up from 50. These regulations are contained in Statutory Instrument 198 of 2024 which can be cited as the Defence (Regular Force) (Non-Commissioned Members) (Amendment) Regulations, 2024 (No. 8).

A member of the ZDF can also work until they are 60 years.

“A permanent member shall, whatever the length of his or her pensionable service, retire on attaining the age of fifty-five years: Provided that — (a) if the Minister, on the recommendation of the Commander, considers that it is desirable in the public interest, he or she may allow that member to continue to serve for a period of five years until he or she attains the age of sixty years; or (b) if that member is allowed to continue to serve in terms of paragraph (a), the Commander may, on giving twelve months’ written notice to the member of his or her intention to do so, require him or her to retire before he or she has served that period,” part of the SI reads.

A member of the ZDF can now retire at the age of 65 if they are a war veteran.

“A member who has continued to serve in terms of proviso (a) to subsection (4) shall retire on attaining the age of sixty years: Provided that a member who is a war veteran shall continue to serve for further periods, not exceeding twelve months at a time, until he or she attains the age of sixty-five years. (6) A member who has continued to serve in terms of subsection (5) shall retire on attaining the age of sixty-five years,” the SI further reads.

Additionally, commissioned officers in the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) can now retire at 65, with the option to work until they are 70. The regulations specify:

“A permanent service officer who has continued to serve in terms of proviso (a) of subsection (6) shall retire on attaining the age of seventy years. A permanent service officer appointed before the effective date on pensionable terms of service shall have a pensionable age of sixty-five years unless the member elects to retire at seventy years of age and any retirement before the elected pensionable age of seventy shall be deemed to be early retirement.”

Retirement Age for Police, Prisons, and Health Services
The retirement ages for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS), and Health Services have also been increased though specific details are yet to be clarified.

Rapper Drake reiterated the call for incarcerated musician Tory Lanez to be released

Rapper Drake reiterated the call for incarcerated musician Tory Lanez to be released.

The Search and Rescue, composer, who appeared on the ‘Drizzmas Giveaway’ stream with Adin Ross on December 26, did not provide any clear justification to back his call.

Early this year, Drake was reported to have shared a photo of Lanez on his Instagram page with a subtle caption purportedly championing a cause for the jailed artiste.

Fans may, therefore, not be surprised by Drake’s latest appeal, which would most likely go nowhere.

On the show, Drake expressed excitement over the release of American rapper Young Thug and hinted at a future collaboration before trying to make a case for Tory Lanez.

“Shout-out to Thug, I can’t wait until Thug drops. Drake and Thugger, of course…Welcome home,” he said, before adding, “Free up T, man. Free up T… I know they don’t want to hear me say that. Free up T,” referring to Tory Lanez.

Tory is serving a 10-year prison term for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in both feet. He was found guilty in December 2022 related to the shooting in 2020.

Drake’s appeal for the singer-rapper, who has maintained his innocence, comes days after Megan Thee Stallion filed a restraining order on Tuesday, December 17.

She had petitioned the Los Angeles Superior Court to prevent Tory Lanez (aka Daystar Peterson) from “orchestrating harassment” against her through third parties while in prison.

Court documents, available to some news outlets, allege that Tory Lanez had been harassing Megan from prison through third parties on social media.

Last month, Megan Thee Stallion premiered her much-anticipated project, Megan: In Her Own Words at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

The film tells the behind-the-scenes story of the singer’s rise to fame. It also provides some insight into her life at the time the Tory Lanez shooting case was being heard in court.

In August, Tory Lanez released two new songs that some fans believed were casting insinuations at Megan Thee Stallion. The songs are Cell 245 and Wish I Never Met You.

The rapper announced his Prison Tapes series, saying he had “cracked the code” of how he and his engineer could still record music over the jail phone and still keep the quality as “professional.”.

Former Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand has revealed what he thinks is the solution to the Club’s footballing dilemma

0

Former Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand has revealed what he thinks is the solution to the Club’s footballing dilemma.

Formerly the world’s most expensive defender, the former England international lifted six Premier League titles, the Champions League and two League Cups during an illustrious 12-year spell at Old Trafford.

Those were the days when United’s dominance was par for the course; the reality now is that the Red Devils languish in the bottom half of the league table with few immediate signs of improvement since the appointment of Rúben Amorim six weeks ago.

“It’s got to be long-term thinking now,” he told CNN Sport’s Amanda Davies after winning the Player Career Award at the recent Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

“It’s weird to say this of Manchester United, but I just don’t think we can put targets on things. We’re not in a position to do that.

“We have a lot of rebuilding of players individually, of a team, but also of a culture and environment.

“That’s going to take time, so to put a target above that in terms of position and winning things … takes away from all of those four things that need building.”

Rio Ferdinand calls for ?long-term thinking? amid turbulent times at Manchester United

The team in charge of spearheading this renewal project is the combined force of the head coach, Amorim and the soccer operations arm of the club, INEOS.

Both have staked their reputations to help reverse the United’s stark decline in fortunes in the post-Alex Ferguson era.

“We need to give INEOS the chance to prove that they are capable of dragging the club from where we are,” Ferdinand explains. “They’re now making decisions and their decisions are going to be judged.

“What he’s (Amorim) done with Sporting… (He) changed the narrative of that football club for a few years. But also his charisma and his ability to communicate has been very impressive and it was before he came.

“It’s alright doing that at Sporting. It’s a very different beast at Manchester United.

“In 2025, I hope Manchester United become a positive football club with positive energy around them, and the narrative isn’t always dejected disappointment.”

One club that United could take an example from at this moment is historic arch-rival Liverpool.

Questions were raised as to whether Jürgen Klopp’s successor, Arne Slot, could follow in the footsteps of one of the most successful managers in the club’s era. But the Dutchman is currently leading the Merseyside outfit to both the top of the English Premier League and UEFA Champions League tables, winning all six games in the latter.

“It’s a lot of confusion and noise over (Manchester United) compared to a very seamless, quiet kind of approach (at Liverpool),” he said when asked how he views the clubs’ contrasting approaches to succession planning.

“(It) shows you the importance of the infrastructure behind the scenes, but also don’t forget that (the Liverpool) squad was a much more stable squad as well.

“A team of people who have won at that club, (that) have been there for a long time. They had the components in there that were working but just wasn’t maybe working the right way and needed fine tuning.

“I always look at it as (Manchester) City winning – ‘That’s a nightmare’ – or Liverpool going to be winning this year, ‘It’s a nightmare.’ … I can suffer that over there a little bit if we’re starting to move and go in the right direction.”

85 000 Chinese nationals now living in Zimbabwe

0

I was astonished to hear the other day that there are now over 85 000 Chinese nationals living in Zimbabwe. I questioned this estimate and was told no, its real. What on earth are they doing here? They are not migrants; they all want to go home eventually. Many have their families back in China and go back regularly. They are here to work? Why?

Then it dawned on me, we are the new Australia. They have targeted us for raw materials for the industrial monster at home. We have lots of targets – the largest iron ore deposits in the world, plenty of limestone and coal so we can make steel. They need to move steel production away from China to avoid US and European trade restrictions and to move dirty, polluting industry to the pristine blue skies of Africa.

We have the best Chrome deposits in the world, 9 billion tonnes of it worth a conservative US$100 trillion. We have enormous Lithium reserves and they are loaded with other critical minerals that are in fact worth more than the Lithium and we do not understand what that means. We applaud them because shortly we will be exporting 5 million tonnes of lithium concentrate a year to China, worth perhaps US$4 billion in new export earnings, four times our famous tobacco crop, but missing the fact that it might contain other metals and minerals worth many times more.

A quarter of our gold output goes to China and we have no idea about how they are doing that or what is involved, but the evidence of open cast mining, large investments in milling and extracting machinery for the small-scale mining industry here which is among the most important in the world, is everywhere. They ignore environmental regulations and leave behind a moonscape of countryside that looks like a World War 1 battlefield.

They are exploiting our finest coal reserves for their smelters and steel production, even exporting their surplus.

It all started when we discovered the Marange diamond fields and they joined forces with our old army generals and created a company that was eventually responsible for 80 per cent of the production of raw diamonds there. I estimate that US$30 billion in raw diamonds has been produced between 2008 and today. At one stage we were larger than Botswana as a diamond producing State.

The Chinese company that was involved was a tiny, rural corporation in China, owned by the Red Army. Today it is a multinational corporation with a whole bevy of top-class hotels, a private Jet and headquarters for Africa in Mozambique. Our old Army Generals all benefitted greatly, just look at the homes many of them have built in this country, the physical evidence of Chinese owned real estate in Harare is everywhere. The people of Marange still wallow in poverty and the active diamond fields do not have a single kilometer of tarred road although they have an international standard airport which can receive large aircraft to fly product out and bring people and equipment in.

In the field of infrastructure to support all these large-scale investments, Chinese activity is focused totally on what they need to achieve their goals here. Power, water, railways, even Port capacity. Just to give you some idea of the scale of what they have in mind they plan an artificial Port on the coast of Mozambique capable of handling 200 million tonnes of cargo annually. That is four times the capacity of Maputo.

What concerns me, is that none of this activity has any application to the needs of Zimbabwe. When I investigated the Marange diamond fields in 2012, as a Member of Parliament, I was able, with relative ease, to get the production information I needed for 5 of the 6 mining companies involved. Why, because they all employed Zimbabweans and I got daily output figures and even quality data (19 per cent Gemstone quality) and even sales data. The last remaining miner was Chinese owned and operated and they employed no Zimbabwean staff. To estimate what they were doing I had to look at US sourced satellite images which clearly showed what was going on below.

The benefit to Zimbabwe of this level of Chinese activity here is evident. They buy the majority of our tobacco, our ferrochrome exports run to tens of millions of dollars a year. Drive past Hwange Colliery, owned notionally by the Government but in fact now largely a Chinese asset. The smoke stacks of coke batteries belching into the atmosphere. The queues of heavy-duty trucks carrying coal to local and regional markets. The road north and south now smashed and barely usable.

There is little or no value addition except for the primary production phase. There are no plans to invest in a Lithium refinery to produce a product suitable for use in the production of batteries. Even the steel plant is only producing steel billets for export to China for conversion into finished product. International sanctions may force them to produce steel for sale to manufacturers in the West but for the time being they are producing a product for export in primary form.

Right now, the decision by the Zimbabwe Government not to maintain power subsidies on electricity going to their furnaces, is forcing the Chinese companies to invest in coal-based power production.

They are doing so at a cost of US$600 000 per megawatt with the objective of meeting their own needs at about US$6 cents per Kilowatt, one third of the current ZESA tariff which is necessary because the new Chinese built power station at Hange cost three times per Megawatt than what their own plant will cost. To achieve those sorts of outcome they will have to secure coal at rock bottom prices, while they supply ZESA at three times the cost.

This is a very concerning situation and the question for us as a nation, is what do we do about it. First we have to recognise, that unlike Australia where privately owned and operated mines for coal and iron ore, mine these products for sale to China at a market related price. Australia has therefore been one of the main beneficiaries of the Chinese expanding economy. Australian criticism of Chinese human and political rights has evoked a very strong response leading to the sort of activity we see here.

The Belt and Road initiatives in African and many other developing States almost always involve overpriced infrastructure which has to be financed on commercial terms. Hwange Power Station is a prime example, the railway line in Kenya and Ethiopia is another example. In many respects the main reason for this is that the Western world has not been either active or supportive.

We in Zimbabwe need to recognise that China can be used to drive development but it must be on our terms. They must employ our people, their investments in infrastructure must serve out nation and not just their interests. We must get back full value of our exports to China. Our relationship with China must be carefully balanced, they must not be allowed to bribe our officials to secure benefits that are not in our national interests.

The rape and pillage of our resources for marginal results simply cannot be allowed to continue.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have settled their bitter divorce after eight years

“More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family,” Jolie’s lawyer James Simon said in a statement to Page Six.

“This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.“

The former couple first met while co-starring in the 2005 movie “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.”

At the time, Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston, who ended up divorcing him that same year, and Jolie was a single mother to son Maddox, whom she adopted from Cambodia in 2002.

In 2005, Pitt accompanied Jolie to Ethiopia to adopt daughter Zahara. The actor legally adopted both children the following year, a few months before daughter Shiloh was born.

In 2007, the pair welcomed son Pax, adopted from Vietnam, to their family. The following year, the actress gave birth to her and Pitt’s fraternal twins, son Knox and daughter Vivienne. They also purchased Château Miraval in France and launched Miraval Wines.

They announced their engagement in April 2012 and got married at the multimillion-dollar estate in August 2014.

In September 2016, shortly after their second wedding anniversary, Angelina filed for divorce.

It wasn’t until 2022 that details surrounding the infamous private plane incident, which occurred days before Jolie requested to end the marriage, were revealed.

During the flight, a now-sober Pitt allegedly “ch0ked one of the children and struck another in the face” as well as “grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her.” He also allegedly “poured beer and red wine” on Jolie and the kids.

Both the FBI and DCFS cleared Pitt, who has always denied any physical altercation, of wrongdoing.

A judge ruled the duo legally single in April 2019. They spent the next several years negotiating the custody of their brood and the divvying of their finances.

In May 2021, a judge awarded Pitt joint custody, but the decision was reversed two months later after the judge was found to have had a conflict of interest.

In October of that year, Jolie sold her 50 percent stake in Miraval Wines to Tenute del Mondo, the wine division of the Stoli Group, prompting Pitt to sue her the following February.

He accused her of violating their agreement by failing to receive his permission to sell her share and claimed she damaged the reputation of the business.

Jolie filed a countersuit in September 2022.

Mnangagwa’s appointment of new police chief sparks clansmen politics allegations

Mnangagwa’s appointment of new police chief sparks clansmen politics allegations

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s recent appointment of Stephen Mutamba as the new Police Commissioner-General, effective January 1, 2025, has ignited accusations of clansmen politics, deepening concerns over ethnic favoritism in Zimbabwean governance. Mutamba, who hails from the Chipinda area bordering Bikita and Zaka districts in Masvingo province, replaces Tandabantu Godwin Matanga in the key national security role.Starlink internet

Clansmen politics, a practice of favoring one’s ethnic group or clan in political appointments, has been a longstanding issue in Zimbabwe. Critics argue that Mnangagwa is perpetuating and intensifying this divisive tradition, which dates back to the late former president Robert Mugabe, who predominantly filled senior government positions with individuals from the Zezuru sub-group of the Shona majority.

Zimbabwe’s constitution explicitly mandates that government appointments reflect the country’s ethnic diversity, which includes 15 recognized ethnic groups. The intent is to ensure proportional representation and fair governance in a multicultural nation. However, Mnangagwa’s critics say he has defied this constitutional requirement, consolidating power by appointing individuals predominantly from his home provinces of Midlands and Masvingo.
Accusations of Karanga Hegemony

Since assuming power in 2017 through a coup against Mugabe, Mnangagwa has faced growing accusations of promoting a “Karanga hegemony political project,” favoring his Karanga ethnic group over others. Notable appointments include his son, David Kudakwashe Mnangagwa, as Deputy Finance Minister, and his nephew, Tongai Mnangagwa, as Deputy Minister for Tourism and Hospitality Industry.

These and other appointments have led to claims that Mnangagwa is creating a governance structure dominated by his allies and clansmen, often under the guise of the “our time to eat” mantra within Zanu PF factional circles.
Rising Tensions Within Zanu PF

Mnangagwa’s alleged ethnocentric governance style has intensified tensions within Zanu PF, particularly with Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, a Zezuru. The internal power struggle between the two leaders has further exposed the party’s entrenched ethnic politics, which have long mirrored Zimbabwe’s broader governance issues.

Critics say Mnangagwa’s approach has not only entrenched nepotism and cronyism but has also fueled public discontent and unrest. “Instead of dismantling Mugabe’s ethnocentric project, Mnangagwa is building his own, worsening the nation’s divisions,” said a political analyst who preferred to remain anonymous.

Broader Implications

The continued reliance on ethnic favoritism in appointments risks undermining Zimbabwe’s national unity and development. Observers warn that this trend could deepen political polarization and erode public trust in state institutions.

As protests and criticism grow louder, Mnangagwa faces mounting pressure to address accusations of clansmen politics and to adhere to the constitutional mandate for inclusive governance. Whether he will pivot to a more diverse and representative approach remains uncertain, but the controversy surrounding Stephen Mutamba’s appointment is emblematic of the broader challenges facing Zimbabwe under Mnangagwa’s leadership.

Chelsea In Right Direction Despite Ipswich Defeat – Maresca

0

Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca has revealed that the team is going in the right direction despite the shock 2-0 defeat to Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Monday.

The Blues have failed to win their last three Premier League games with a draw against Everton, and two consecutive defeats against Fulham, and Ipswich Town to slip to fourth on the log.

Maresca made five changes to the side that lost to Fulham with Philip Jorgensen, Christopher Nkunku, Joao Felix, Noni Madueke, and Axel Disasi starting in a move geared towards rotation.

Chelsea dominated the encounter but conceded an early penalty when Jorgensen brought down Delap, who scored from the spot to give Ipswich Town a 1-0 lead.

João Felix’s goal was ruled out for offside, and Palmer’s free kick hit the woodwork as the visitors rallied to find their way back into the game.

Former Chelsea young star, Omari Hutchinson scored the second goal against his former club in the 53rd minute to condemn Chelsea to their fourth defeat of the season.

Maresca believes the team is going in the right direction despite their mini slump.

He said: “We expected this kind of moment during the season because we know that this kind of moment belongs to football. It is almost impossible to have a season where you do not have a moment like now for us.

“Not one of us in this room expected us to be where we are now. This means and shows that we are in the right direction, as I’ve said many times, but also shows that we are far from competing [with] consistency and to be there with the best teams in England.

“I think we [have] to be satisfied with where we are but at the same time we need to know we [can] do things better.

Chelsea are now 10 points behind table-toppers Liverpool, Maresca has reiterated once again that he is not focused on the Premier League title race.

He said: “We focus game by game. We are not focused on the title race or those things.

“We made four changes from the last game because they all deserve to play. Now we’ve finished the first part of the season, no one expected us to be where we are.

“We are in a good position but we can do many things better. It’s a long race.”

The Italian manager described the encounter as a strange game after Chelsea recorded 20 shots on goal in total, their most attempts without scoring in a Premier League away game since December 2017 (25 against Everton).

He said: “It was a bit of a strange game. We created so many chances in the first half and in the first five or 10 minutes of the second half, we had two clear chances; the header from Joao [Felix] and another shot.

“Then I think the second goal killed the game a little bit. Sometimes when you create so many chances, the post, the VAR, the ‘keeper saves or the defenders that block the shot, sometimes it has to go in that way.

“It’s a shame because it was another chance for us but congratulations to them because probably when you save so many shots on the line, the goalkeeper, the body, the desire from them was very high.”

Chelsea will begin 2025 with a trip to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace on Saturday.

WATCH: Chaos At Food Lover’s Market in Fourways After Couple Calls Black Patrons Baboons

Furious Patrons Confront Racism at Food Lover’s Market in Fourways
There was chaos at Food Lover’s Market in Fourways, Johannesburg, on Sunday after a white couple allegedly called black patrons “baboons.” The incident, captured on video, has since gone viral on social media.

Celebrity and entertainment reporter Phil Mphela shared the video on X (formerly Twitter), sparking widespread outrage.

In the footage, a black woman can be seen confronting the elderly white couple. She adamantly demands, “Why did you call us baboons?” Other patrons can be heard voicing their anger, with the situation escalating rapidly.

Video Goes Viral

The video, which has garnered thousands of views, shows tensions flaring inside the supermarket. While the alleged racist remarks were not captured on camera, the aftermath was clear.

Mphela wrote:

“This incident happened at Food Lover’s Market in Fourways today. A couple is accused of calling black patrons baboons.”

One woman in the video is heard shouting,

“You don’t get to walk away from this! What gives you the right to call us such names?”

The incident has ignited conversations about racism in South Africa, with many calling for the couple to face consequences.

Public Reactions
Social media users expressed their outrage at the incident, sharing their thoughts under Mphela’s post.

Pebbles (@PebblesNeo) said:
“I’d start behaving like a real baboon, ngimshaye ngempama e very hot.”

Another user, African Safari (@Zayen30), expressed heartbreak:
“This is heartbreaking. 2025, and we have people who still call other people baboons, and nothing will happen to them. Like wtf 😒.”

Rolling Stone 💯 (@Iam_LucTheDon) criticised the supermarket:
“The fact that Food Lovers allowed the couple to continue shopping even after such a racial hate claim is disturbing and needs to be looked into.”

Some users questioned the validity of the claims. Langa (@LangaLikeTheSun) commented:
“Unless there’s evidence, I no longer believe such allegations, particularly when the alleged victim screams and shouts in an attempt to garner support. I’ve seen one too many race cards played for something as petty as parking space 😑.”

Others called for swift action against racism. StKijiko (@StKijiko) wrote:
“Racism should be met with the violence it deserves. The security guards are standing there looking puzzled like they didn’t just witness an act of violence.”

Calls for Accountability
The incident has reignited debates about racism in South Africa and the role of businesses in addressing it. Many social media users have called for Food Lover’s Market to release a statement and take appropriate action.

Pal Mabelane (@BGF013) tweeted:
“You’re white and you call me a baboon you’re catching hands…and feet. You will be forced to love the food at the market.”

The supermarket has yet to issue an official response.

This incident is one of many highlighting ongoing racial tensions in the country. As the debate continues online, many are asking what steps can be taken to ensure such events are addressed promptly and effectively.

What do you think is the best way to tackle racism in everyday spaces like supermarkets?

Facebook followers elect Hichilema again as Mundubile comes second

FACEBOOK followers have elected President Hakainde Hichilema for the second time but this time around the voting was done online with PF Mporokoso Member of Parliament Brian Mundubile coming out number two.

Yesterday, Kalemba, News Diggers and other online pages posted an opinion poll dubbed “If elections were called today, who would you vote for?” in which President Hichilema dominated the polls with over 70 percent of voters rallying behind him.

By press time on Monday, the Head of State was leading the polls on Kalemba, News Diggers and Mwizukanji pages respectively, with 5,083 votes on Kalemba, 12,930 on News Diggers and 23,820 on Mwizukanji.

The President was followed by Mundubile who polled 773 votes on Kalemba and 2,768 on News Diggers.

The PF lawmaker was however outshined on Mwizukanji’s page by Citizens First leader Harry Kalaba who polled 7,436 while he got 1,716 votes coming at third.

Mundubile who was leading as second runner up on the majority of the pages was followed by Socialist Party leader Fred M’membe who got 389 votes on Kalemba and 866 on News Diggers.

Kalaba came out fourth in the race with 270 votes on Kalemba and 597 on News Diggers.

PEP leader Sean Tembo this time around didn’t come out with zeros as he managed to be on number five with 141 votes on Kalemba, 311 votes on News Diggers and 548 votes on Mwizukanji.

New Heritage Party’s Chishala Kateka surpassed Zambia Must Prosper leader Kelvin Bwalya with 69 votes on Kalemba, 151 votes on News Diggers and 540 votes on Mwizukanji while her counterpart Bwalya polled last with 66 votes on Kalemba, 162 on News Diggers and 358 votes on Mwizukanji

The polls filled the comment sections on the mentioned pages with mixed feelings with the majority endorsing President Hichilema as their best choice while putting Mundubile as second best.

Gel Solochi commented on Kalemba, “I will still go for Hakainde Hichilema.”

Maimbolwa Kamanga commented: “HH for me is the real deal because he has never promised heaven on earth, his solutions are practical but based on the reality on the ground.”

“I would rather Vote for the current President to continue working, e. g revamping mines, recruitment of public service workers, free education, which is changing people’s well being than vote for some man or woman being called president who are just politicking and jumping from one alliance to another without followers but one person calling him or herself president and not offering alternatives.”

Mumbi Mbewe wrote: “I would vote for Mundubile because at least he is not toxic like other opposition leaders.”..https://kalemba.news/politics/2024/12/31/facebook-followers-elect-hichilema-again-as-mundubile-comes-second/

The UPND Government Deceived Zambia into Power: Accountability Is a Right, Not Bitterness- Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

The UPND Government Deceived Zambia into Power: Accountability Is a Right, Not Bitterness

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

When the United Party for National Development (UPND) swept into power, they did so on the wings of hope. Millions of Zambians believed the UPND’s bold promises to fix the economy, end load-shedding, lower the cost of living, and restore law and order. These promises were not mere campaign rhetoric; they were commitments to a people desperate for change. But over two years later, these promises have proven hollow.

Zambians are now grappling with the painful truth: the UPND lied their way into power. Instead of fulfilling their pledges, their governance has been defined by excuses, deflection, and outright failure. Citizens who demand accountability are vilified as “bitter” or dismissed as “PF surrogates.”

But let us be clear: calling out a government for its failures is not bitterness or political partisanship. It is a demand for the transparency and competence that every Zambian deserves. It is a cry for justice from a people betrayed by those they trusted.

A Catalogue of Broken Promises

The UPND’s promises have disintegrated into a series of glaring failures. These were not mere missteps; they are evidence of a government unprepared and unwilling to deliver on its commitments.

1. The Economy: A Broken Pledge

The UPND assured Zambians that they had the expertise to stabilize the Kwacha, reduce inflation, and rescue the economy from the brink of collapse. Instead:

The Kwacha has nosedived, driving up the cost of goods and services and eroding Zambians’ purchasing power.

Inflation remains rampant, pushing more families into poverty.

The debt crisis has worsened, with the government failing to present a viable recovery plan.

Zambians are not just disappointed; they are angry. The daily struggle to afford basic necessities has intensified, and there is no end in sight. The promise of economic stability has turned into a nightmare of worsening poverty.

2. Load-Shedding: A Persistent Crisis

The UPND declared load-shedding would become history under their administration. Yet:

Power outages remain widespread, paralyzing businesses and reducing household productivity.

The government has failed to invest in energy infrastructure, opting instead for band-aid solutions that do little to address the underlying issues.

Load-shedding has robbed Zambia of economic opportunities and further damaged the trust citizens had in the UPND’s ability to deliver.

3. Mealie Meal Prices: An Unbearable Burden

Zambians were promised affordable basic commodities, especially mealie meal—a staple in every home. Instead:

Mealie meal prices have skyrocketed, making it unaffordable for many families.

The government has failed to support local farmers and stabilize agricultural output, exacerbating the crisis.

Rural and urban families alike are struggling to feed their children. This failure is not just about broken promises; it is about human suffering.

4. Fuel Prices: A Broken Promise at the Pump

The UPND promised lower fuel prices to reduce the cost of transportation and goods. The reality, however, could not be more different:

Fuel prices have reached record highs, placing additional financial strain on Zambians.

This has had a ripple effect, driving up the cost of essential goods and services.

The government’s inability—or unwillingness—to tackle this issue is a betrayal of the trust placed in them by voters.

5. Caderism: A Lie Exposed

President Hichilema’s pledge to end caderism was heralded as a cornerstone of his promise to restore law and order. Yet:

Cadres continue to intimidate citizens and perpetuate violence, operating with impunity.

The government has failed to hold perpetrators accountable, creating a climate of fear and insecurity.

This hypocrisy has left Zambians disillusioned, as the same practices that the UPND condemned while in opposition are now thriving under their watch.

6. A Cabinet of Broken Dreams

President Hichilema touted his cabinet as a “Champions League” team that would deliver results. However:

Many ministers have fallen short of expectations, lacking the vision and competence required to address Zambia’s pressing challenges.

Internal divisions and bureaucratic inefficiencies have further stalled progress.

This is not the “dream team” Zambians were promised; it is a team that has failed to rise to the occasion.

Deflection and Arrogance

Rather than addressing these failures, the UPND has adopted a strategy of deflection and arrogance. Dismissing critics as “bitter” or labeling them as opposition sympathizers is not only undemocratic but deeply insulting to Zambians who demand better governance.

This contempt for criticism reveals a troubling reality: the UPND government is unwilling to listen, learn, or adapt. A government that cannot handle scrutiny is a government that does not respect democracy.

Accountability Is Non-Negotiable

Zambians have a right to demand accountability. It is not an act of partisanship but a duty of citizenship. The UPND’s failure to deliver on its promises is not a political issue; it is a national crisis.

Criticism stems from a love for Zambia and a desire to see it thrive.

A government that refuses to be held accountable is one that has failed its people.

A Call for Real Leadership

The UPND must confront its failures head-on. Excuses will no longer suffice. To restore even a shred of credibility, the government must:

1. Acknowledge its failures and provide a clear explanation for unfulfilled promises.

2. Present actionable solutions to address the economic crisis, load-shedding, and the skyrocketing cost of living.

3. Crack down on caderism and restore law and order.

4. Engage with critics in meaningful dialogue, rather than dismissing them with labels and insults.

Leadership is about humility, accountability, and action. The UPND must remember that they are servants of the people, not their rulers.

Conclusion

The UPND government came into power on the strength of promises that now feel like a cruel joke. Zambians are not asking for miracles; they are asking for the basics—competent governance, accountability, and respect.

The people of Zambia will not be silenced. They will continue to demand better, not out of bitterness, but out of a commitment to a brighter future.

The UPND lied their way into power, and the people will not forget. This is not about politics—it is about survival. Zambia is watching, and the government must deliver or face the judgment of a nation betrayed.

Zambians and Zimbabweans will never be divided by any leader

Zambians and Zimbabweans will never be divided by any leader

By Austin Mbozi

Both of them do speak Tonga.

I am talking about Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema (HH). So, can Zimbabweans and Zambians really be divided just because President Mnangagwa misled Russian President Vladimir Putin that his fellow Tonga speaker HH is threatening Zimbabwe by inviting American military in Zambia?

My answer is that ordinary Zambians and Zimbabweans will never be divided by any leader. President Mnangagwa is the living testimony of  their solid oneness. He did not learn the Tonga version spoken by Zimbabwean Tongas across Chirundu border. He learnt his Zambian Tonga when Zambia kept him safe in Mumbwa, and Zambia taught him at University of Zambia, away from Rhodesia-Zimbabwe whose racist white leader Ian  Smith threatened his life. And his fellow refugees settled in Zambia. It is from these Zambian Shona speakers that I ‘ndino ziba kutaura Shona zakanaka’ (I lean’t speaking Shona a lot), and from where my younger sister, Nang’amba Mbozi, is married.

President Putin is the wrong person for President Mnangagwa to tell about Zimbabwe-Zambia differences. Putin has virtually destroyed the African Union (AU) by arming military regimes that illegally overthrew democratically elected governments Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso. The AU banned military rulers. But Putin’s Russian military is stronger than African armies. So, the AU simply watches after Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu was left alone trying to stop these soldiers. To make matters worse, South African President Cyril Ramaposa whose military is strong enough to save the AU is the one actually building up a military alliance with the same Putin. Let us not allow Putin to also destroy our SADC unity.

Dividing countries is not new to Putin’s Russia. After World War II in 1945, the USA and Putin’s Russia-USSR divided Germany into West Germany which was militarily funded by the capitalist USA and East Germany, militarily funded by Russia-USSR. When colonial Japan abandoned Korea in 1945, Joseph Stalin’s Russia-USSR imposed communist leader Kim II-Sung in North Korea while the UN-led US under President Truman supported the elected South Korea President Syngman Rhee. The resulting Korean civil war ended in a deadlock after four million deaths. Now that the wall diving Germany was demolished when his Russia-USSR collapsed, Putin should not support such walls in Africa.

History shows that our Zambia-Zimbabwean rulers always quarreled but our people remained one, like they were before imperialist John Cecil Rhodes named our two countries under his name as Southern Rhodesia and Northern Rhodesia.

Now reader, let us rap a song. Imagine I am  musician Yo Maps on stage and you are the audience replying in choruses. Why? Because I aspire to become the Yo Maps of Zambian article writing. So, I will rap, doing  ‘kwaangula’ as I state  historical points. Then you the audience should answer in a chorus saying, ‘But our people remained friendly, ye ye ye mama oh!’

There we go, I sing.

First, since 1838, King Mzilikazi of Rhodesia-Zimbabwe routinely raided Rhodesia-Zambia’s King Lewanika for cattle until Rhodes overthrew his successor son Lobengula in 1893. Rhodes and Lobengula differed over the terms of the Rudd Concession. This 1888-signed Concession permitted whites adventurers into Rhodesia-Zimbabwe.

Your chorus: ‘But our ordinary peoples remained friendly’.

Second, during the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland (1953-1963), Rhodesia-Zimbabwean ruling whites provoked Rhodesia-Zambian ruling whites by ferrying Rhodesia-Zambian copper to enjoy it in Salisbury-Harare. So, the Rhodesia-Zambia white ruler Roy Welensky, a retired boxing champion, grabbed the prime ministership from Rhodesia-Zimbabean white ruler Godfrey Huggins in 1956. Do not let Rhodesia-Zambian blacks led by Kenneth Kaunda lie to you that they fought Rhodes’ BSA Company to stop grabbing copper from Rhodesia-Zambia. It is that white patriot, Roy Welensky, who fought-kicked out the BSA.

Your chorus: ‘But our people remained friendly, yo yo yo mama yee!’

Third, Rhodesia-Zimbabwean white ruling president Ian Smith who declared his country’s UDI independence in 1966 routinely bombed the Rhodesia-Zambia led by Kenneth Kaunda. Why? Because Kaunda in solidarity hosted black  Rhodesia-Zimbabwean soldiers including comrade Mnangagwa who were fighting to remove white hegemony in Rhodesia-Zimbabwe.

Your chorus: ‘But our people remained one.’

Fourth, Rhodesia-Zambian president Kaunda preferred ZAPU led by Joshua Nkomo to take over Rhodesia-Zimbabwe and not ZANU led by Ndabaningi Sithole, even though he hosted both. Eventually, Rhodesia-Zimbabwean lawyer/freedom fighter Herbet Chitepo was fatally car-bombed in 1975 in Rhodesia-Zambia.

Fifth, even white rulers in the 1950s sent black (‘Zambian’) runner Yotam Muleya to America  to represent both countries. Zimbabweans celebrated Zambia’s 2012 Africa Cup of Nations trophy until dawn. Zambians celebrated/locally-trained Zimbabwean wizardry boxer Charles Manuchi. Sports minister Chishimba Kambwili told Manuchi; ‘here is Zambian citizenship if Zimbabwean leaders  mistreat you’.

Your chorus: Sports united our peoples!

Sixth, after the March 29, 2008 Rhodesia-Zimbabwean elections had no-outright winner, Rhodesia-Zambia president Levy Mwanawasa tried to reduce Rhodesia-Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe’s ‘dictatorship’; accommodating opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s views. But Mugabe sent to Lusaka the current Rhodesia-Zimbabwe President Mnangagwa to try and convince Rhodesia-Zambians to stop condemning Mugabe. Maybe Mwanawasa’s continued attacks on Mugabe are causing Mnagagwa to imagine that perhaps HH is anti-ZANU-PF like Mwanawasa?

Chorus: ‘But our people remained united. Yee mama yeh!’

Seventh, even if Zambia were to have an AFRICOM military office, which is feared by President Mnangagwa, that cannot automatically mean that Zambia would militarily attack Zimbabwe. Botswana under president Khama worked closely with AFRICOM and was even more anti-Mugabe’s ‘dictatorship’. But Botswana did not militarily attack Rhodesia Zimbabwe. And no African AFRICOM- friendly country has ever attacked another.

Your chorus: ‘Our people remained one yeee!’

Eighth, the Rhodesia-Zimbabwean Shona are friendly with the Rhodesia-Zambian Bemba. And the Rhodesia-Zambian Lundas are one with the Rhodesia –Zambia Ndebele.

Your chorus: ‘But our people remained united, let the Rhodesia-Zambian Nkoya marry from the Rhodesia-Zimbabwean whites. We are not Korea whom Putin’s Russia-USSR divided ye.’

Dr Lawrence Mwelwa, stop weaponising my name on the third term debate to advance your political, legal and scholarly battles. You can do it on your own- Prof Munyonzwe Hamalengwa

Dr Lawrence Mwelwa, stop weaponising my name on the third term debate to advance your political, legal and scholarly battles. You can do it on your own: my last rejoinder

By Prof Munyonzwe Hamalengwa

Dear Dr Mwelwa,

Stop weaponising my name on the third term debate to advance whatever political, legal and scholarly battles you are involved in or pursuing.

You can ably do those battles on your behalf or on behalf of others on your motion. Even though I spotted your intentions a mile away, I had decided to ignore that aspect, albeit also pointed out by others, in hope that it will remain a scholarly pursuit. But when you start a devious veiled and unveiled scholarly mischief and weaponisation, I have to jump in and say, enough is enough.
In your article of December 25, 2024, a Christmas Day of all days, you state the following:

“Professor Hamalengwa claimed a significant academic victory by reflecting on the outcome of the Chizombe case.”

You further go on to state that in celebrating the victory, Professor Hamalengwa “position[ed] himself as a pivotal voice in Zambia’s evolving jurisprudence”. What you said here is what compelled me to issue this brief reply. What you have said here is simply a baldfaced academic and scholarly invention, misrepresentation and mischief. You want to use my name as a continuing lightening rod for your battles and positioning. You want to create a mountain or monument that you can continuously beat against to promote your own agenda. Read the article two more times: where do I claim a pivotal role and academic leadership in this debate? Where do I ululate about the victory? I totally reject your after the fact concoction. Let’s stick to the scholarly debate template.
In the impugned article all I said principally was itemising once again the observable signposts igniting and later on establishing a vacated precedent and I further added two more “principles”: 1. Unprecedentedly controversial legal decision, 2. Significant ferment in the expert and none expert opinion signalling the precedent as a wrong decision, 3. Dynamic ringing dissent by a judge or judges, 4. Changed political regime, 5. Changed judicial composition, 6. Emergency of an enigmatic litigant, and 7, the presence of a dynamic advocate.
You have as yet failed to deal with this independent schema that characterises a vacated precedent. Mentioning these characteristics is not favouring “political expediency”. Where in these characteristics is political expediency? Wrong precedents in fact violate “constitutional fidelity”. For example, Danny Pule ignored the implications of Article 35 of the 1996 amended constitution, it violated the meaning and spirit of Articles 2&7 of Constitution Amendment No. 1 of 2016. You have refused to come to terms with the wrongness of Danny Pule, but instead you choose to beat the drum of the non-existent “political expediency” which is your creation. Wrong precedents violate the principles you hold so dear in the vacuum: judicial stability and constitutional fidelity. Judicial stability does not sit well with wrong precedents. In fact, your judicial stability ought to be disturbed in order to cure a wrong precedent.

Dr Mwelwa, you ignore entirely the political and judicial context in which Danny Pule was created, it was created in the context of “political expediency” in which the former president threatened the judiciary while at an airport in Solwezi that there would be chaos if the Zambian judiciary went the way of the “Kenyan judicial  adventurism”. What was stated there has been oft-quoted and is available. At that time the judicial composition was about half it’s supposed full compliment. You know the debates about that judicial composition. There was no “judicial stability” considered in a broader contemporary context. Where was the judicial independence in that political context? There was no judicial independence. That decision, Danny Pule was made under orders and duress. The judiciary failed to protect the constitutional order at that time and failed to correctly interpret the constitution because of the political context existing at time. Dr Mwelwa has utterly failed to introspect on the existing political, legal and judicial context in the period 2015 to 2021. Once Dr Mwelwa does that, he may be more nuanced in his analysis.

Dr Mwelwa quotes Chief Justice Dr Mumba Malila SC where he stated, “judicial independence must be practised through decisions rooted in the law, not swayed by political sentiment”. The Chief Justice is right but Dr Mwelwa is wrong. The quotation and others from the Chief Justice do not support Dr Mwelwa’s analysis. The Danny Pule decision was not rooted in law, of Article 35 of the 1996 Amended constitution or Articles 2&7 of Constitution Amendment No. 1 of 2016 but was based on political sentiment and pressure on the judiciary exerted at Solwezi airport by the then president. The Chief Justice from reading his three books that I have plus his article on judge Clever Musumali and other articles, truly supports judicial independence and the rule of law in practice and not in the abstract. Whatever happens, however, my 7 “principles” that characterise vacated precedents remain undisturbed because they are independent of Dr Mwelwa’s analysis. Some of his concerns reflected in the precedents of Dred Scot, Plessy etc are contained in “principle“ No. 1, No. 2 or No. 3, is: “Controversy” “Prominent opposition” or “Judicial dissent” or not related to similar cases to be decided similarly.

There is no way I could claim a pivotal role in that debate except in your universe for political, legal and scholarly purposes already pointed out. Leading lawyers and academics held sway: Professors Muna Ndulo, Melvin Mbao, Cephas Lumina, Chaloka Beyani, Dr O’Brien Kaaba, and others opposed the Danny Pule precedent. Constitutional lawyers John Sangwa SC, Elias Chipimo Jr, Linda Kasonde opposed the decision. Prominent academic Dr Sishuwa Sishuwa opposed the decision. Mases of public opinion on social media opposed the decision. Many other columnists including myself opposed the decision. The only claim I could make is that I have been consistently writing on the judiciary and many legal issues since my law school days decades ago in Canada and I have penned hundreds of articles on judicial dissent, judicial diversity, judicial appointments and related legal issues. I didn’t just start now.

I also admit to the reality that as an academic and scholar, I do read and write in order to inform, participate, educate, influence and affect public opinion and the opinion of decision makers including the judiciary. There is no scholarship devoid of this. But, in my articles I never claimed that I was the pivotal voice in the third term vacation debate. This is my last reply to Dr Mwelwa’s ruminations.

The author continues to research on the judiciary and on numerous other legal issues. He teaches criminal law; jurisprudence; intellectual property; medical law and research methodologies in law in Zambia. Email: munyonzwe.hamalengwa@zaou.ac.zm

ANDD WRITES ECZ OVER KAWAMBWA PARLIAMENTARY BY-ELECTION

…. concerned with reports of vote buying and cash distribution among other issues

Below is the letter….

30th December 2024

The Chief Electoral Officer
Electoral Commission of Zambia
Election House, Haile Selassie Avenue, Long Acres,
P.O. Box 50274
Lusaka, Zambia

Dear Sir/Madam,

Subject: Concerns Regarding the Kawambwa By-Election Held on 20th December 2024 and electoral integrity of the electoral Commission of Zambia

We trust this letter reaches you in good health. As an organization dedicated to advancing democratic principles, electoral transparency, and integrity, we have carefully examined reports from various stakeholders, including the Christian Churches Monitoring Group (CCMG), Transparency International Zambia, opposition parties, and other concerned parties, regarding the parliamentary by-election held on 20th December 2024 in Kawambwa Constituency. After reviewing their findings, we wish to express serious concerns about the credibility and fairness of the electoral process.

The reports outline several irregularities that undermined the integrity of the election. These issues, detailed below, require your immediate attention and action:

1. Vote Buying and Cash Distribution
The reports reveal that UPND officials, including the Minister of Youth, Sports, and Arts Hon. Elvis Nkandu, Chililabombwe MP Hon. Paul Kabuswe, and the UPND candidate, were involved in distributing money to residents in Chitondo. Additionally, promises of free fertilizer were made to the community. Such actions constitute vote-buying and violate the Electoral Code of Conduct.

2. Voter Manipulation
There were reports of UPND supporters transporting individuals from Kawambwa to Nchelenge to replace lost or damaged voter cards. Teachers from the constituency were allegedly instructed to fill out blank, stamped police reports at voter registration centers to facilitate the replacement of these cards. These actions raise serious concerns about the manipulation of the voter registration process.

3. Electoral Code of Conduct Violations
The reports also detail numerous breaches of the Electoral Code of Conduct, including the alleged expulsion of polling agents and election monitors by UPND supporters. Despite the presence of monitors, there seems to have been a lack of enforcement by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) in ensuring adherence to the Code of Conduct, thereby failing to guarantee a level playing field for all participants.

4. Misuse of State Resources
Another significant concern raised is the presence of at least 10 Cabinet Ministers and other government officials stationed in Kawambwa without clear evidence of official leave. The involvement of District Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, and other high-ranking government officials in this manner, along with the use of state resources, creates an uneven playing field and compromises the neutrality of the election.

Conclusion and Recommendations:
Given the seriousness of these findings, we strongly urge the Electoral Commission of Zambia to conduct a thorough investigation into the concerns raised by CCMG and other stakeholders and take appropriate corrective action.

As the Advocates for National Development and Democracy, we specifically recommend:

– A comprehensive investigation into the incidents of vote-buying and manipulation of voter registration processes.
– Stricter enforcement of the Electoral Code of Conduct to prevent future violations.
– A review of the use of state resources during elections to ensure impartiality and fairness.

We are deeply concerned that these irregularities undermine the credibility of the electoral process. We trust that the Electoral Commission of Zambia will take swift action to address these issues and ensure that future elections are conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.

We await your prompt attention to this matter.

Yours sincerely,

Samuel Banda

Dora Nyambe’s children send her off with tears, best friend fails to speak at burial

Dora’s children send her off with tears, best friend fails to speak at burial

MKUSHI district was filled with grief, as mourners failed to comprehend how the cruel hands of death could get a kind and special soul as Dora Nyambe, a philanthropist who could have easily passed on as ‘Mother Theresa’ in this modern era.

Yesterday, the earth opened and Dora’s casket was lowered six feet, as the sight of her 13 children she adopted could easily warm the coldest of hearts.

Dora dedicated her life to saving young vulnerable children, not just from the streets but from a life of illiteracy with her School, Footprints of Hope.

Her school which she built for the love of education was filled with the presence of mourners from Mkushi and beyond who gathered to pay their last respect to a  philanthropist who has left mark never to be forgotten.

In videos, her foster children who were 13 including the over 500 children that she gave free education to, housed and fed were seen hopelessly sobbing, as they did not only loose a teacher and hero but also a mother.

The children, both male and female are juveniles that Dora saved from child marriages, vulnerable orphaned children, while some worked as maids, and never had hope of ever learning how to read, not until they met Dora.

Dora built her school in a remote village of Mkushi out of her own pocket money, until she started receiving help and funds from other well wishers enabling her to offer help to hundreds of children.

Yesterday Mkushi, Zambia and the world gathered to pay their last respect to Dora.

Those who could not make it physically mourned through their phones.

Her best friend Thandiwe Mseteka who is also the school’s head teacher, could not manage to construct sentence due to her sobbing state, as she failed to give a clear statement during the funeral.

“I will try my best, I will try my best, but I still need you by my side, I cant manage alone, I can’t manage. Travel well my sister, may your soul rest in peace,”  Thandiwe said amidst sobs.

Dora died at the age of 32 on Christmas day in a short space of time after complaining of not feeling well, in the early hours of that fateful day.

It is reported that while she felt unwell, Dora drove herself to the clinic, where she was later confirmed dead.

Meanwhile, Chief Shaibila of the Lala speaking people of Mkushi district thanked Dora for her contributions towards education in the Chiefdom. Encouraging people to emulate her works.

“I will have to read this speech in English because our daughter Dora has reached an international level and a lot of people are following this funeral proceeding.  Dora the great. She did her part. What are you going to do on earth? Let us emulate her. What legacy are you going to leave behind?,” said the chief…https://kalemba.news/local/2024/12/31/doras-children-send-her-off-with-tears-best-friend-fails-to-speak-at-burial/

LEVY NGOMA URGES CIVIL SERVANTS TO ALIGN WITH GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS

December 30,2024

Special Assistant to the President for Political Affairs, Levy Ngoma, has called on civil servants to work harmoniously with the ruling government to ensure the successful implementation of national programs and policies.

Speaking during a courtesy call on the Petauke district administration, Mr. Ngoma emphasized that civil servants have a duty to execute the President’s vision by adhering to the government’s Manifesto.

“All civil servants should serve the interest of government programs, and that should be the guiding principle in their work culture,” he stated.

He condemned acts of undermining government initiatives and urged civil servants to foster collective commitment and professionalism.

“Civil servants are the implementing face of government policies, and they must act with integrity and dedication,” said Mr. Ngoma.

The Presidential Political Assistant also commended President Hichilema for his tolerant and visionary leadership, noting that his dedication to unity and development should inspire all public workers.

“I commend President Hichilema for his vindictive heart and tolerance, even though some people take that for granted,” he added.

Mr. Ngoma emphasized three key factors in procurement processes: quality, timely delivery, and right pricing. He called on civil servants to align their efforts with the President’s vision, ensuring these principles guide all government projects.

“There is so much on our shoulders, and we must embrace accountability, transparency, and quality in delivering goods and services,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Petauke District Council Secretary Kelvin Banda praised the government for expanding the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), which has financed over 50 projects in the district in 2024 alone.

He highlighted key initiatives, including the installation of solar panels at two secondary schools, four water pumps, and two health facilities under the disaster response component of the CDF.

Mr. Banda added that the CDF has enabled the drilling of boreholes in every ward of Petauke Central Constituency to address water challenges.

“These projects are transforming lives and addressing critical needs in our community,” he said.

Petauke District Commissioner Martha Mulenga also applauded the government’s response to food insecurity caused by last season’s droughts.

She revealed that over 60 community markets are now selling Food Reserve Agency (FRA) stocks, ensuring residents have access to affordable food supplies.

“Despite the droughts, the government has not neglected us but has provided various programs to feed our people,” Mrs. Mulenga said.

On water and sanitation, the District Commissioner highlighted the construction of two new dams and the rehabilitation of three others under the CDF.

She noted that the dams, once completed, will provide adequate water for agriculture and livestock, significantly boosting local livelihoods.

The local leaders thanked President Hakainde Hichilema for his continued commitment to improving the lives of the people in Petauke and across the country through transformative initiatives.

He described these initiatives as part of a broader vision to strengthen the link between the government and communities.

Eastern Province Minister Peter Phiri, who doubles as Malambo Constituency Member of Parliament, echoed the Chief’s sentiments and highlighted other key interventions such as the Social Cash Transfer program.

He stressed that the UPND government is steadfast in its resolve to uplift vulnerable households and ensure equitable development across the region.

Let us focus on Plan B because Plan B is the only hope and alternative for Zambians- Edgar Lungu

Fellow Country Men and Women,

I greet you in the name of One Zambia, One Zambia during this festival season. As we celebrate Christmas, let us all remember that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is the main hero to focus on. As we end the year, l want to repeat my statement following the Kawambwa by-election when I called upon my fellow opposition leaders and members to share their experiences, pick lessons and begin to engage and discuss with the aim of joining hands to work together.

For me, dialogue, collaboration and teamwork among opposition leaders are vital as we prepare for the upcoming elections in Pambashe, Petauke, and beyond. To this end, I have begun meeting with fellow opposition leaders in my capacity as Former President as well as Chairman of Tonse Alliance. This is to demonstrate my deep commitment in mobilizing and building a united and solid broad coalition for regime change in 2026 within the framework of Plan B.

All engagements with like minded opposition leaders are designed to ensure that Zambians are given a consolidated and United front in upcoming bye elections and to guarantee victory in 2026.
This should never be taken as a political endorsement of anyone. During this slippery period of inter and intra party discussions and alliance formations, l would like to appeal to everyone to desist and avoid political manipulations or opportunistic postures.

To our PF and Tonse Alliance  members as well as all our supporters at home and abroad, l would like to encourage you to remain strong politically. Let us focus on Plan B because Plan B is the only hope and alternative for Zambians. Don’t be mistaken nor misled by anyone that l have endorsed anyone as 2026 presidential candidate anywhere. Moreover, Tonse Alliance has not endorsed anyone as 2026 presidential candidate apart from myself!

Therefore, our Plan B remains rooted as our only hope for the Zambian people within the framework of Tonse Alliance and other like minded stakeholders. This is our prayer, this is our resolve, and this is our redemption plan for 2026. As earlier noted, l have a noble duty as Former President and Tonse Alliance Chairman to engage, mediate and dialogue with as many as possible who are like minded in the opposition. This process is about building unity and collective strength, not individual endorsement, because the fight for democracy requires that we stand together as one.

In 2026, we need everyone and I am duty bound to continue spearheading this noble exercise of uniting the opposition. In 2026, l pray to see a united opposition and finally, in 2026, I firmly believe that a united opposition shall secure and deliver victory under Plan B!

Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu

Sixth President of Zambia
Tonse Alliance Chairman and 2026 Presidential Candidate

We have fulfilled almost everything we promised – UPND

We have fulfilled almost everything we promised – UPND

THE UPND says it has so far fulfilled almost everything it promised to the people of Zambia noting that there are only about three things remaining on the checklist.

The party’s consultant Mark Simuuwe stated that the party is currently not concerned about  2026 as it is fully preoccupied with fulfilling what it promised the country.

Simuuwe said government has now found solutions to load shedding and the high cost of living which will soon show with the results.

He revealed on Millenium TV last evening that the future of the country looks bright and the year 2024 has come with successes and challenges which government has devised a mechanism on how to deal with the challenges on the table.

“We have fulfilled almost everything that the UPND promised there only about three things that are remaining which are load shedding and the solution has been found and we will deal with the cost of living at household level. The solution is there to give citizens opportunities to produce food throughout the year. We are on track as a country and the strategy is very clear.”

“UPND is not concerned about 2026, when you are on the driving seat presiding over the affairs of the country and running the country belonging to the people of Zambia on behalf of the people of Zambia. Our preoccupation is about fulfilling the promises we made,” he shared.

When asked on how the party predicts 2025 to be, the consultant stated that the UPND predicts the economy to be back on track where it will be able to monitor sectors.

“We needed to plant the mine. Now that we have planted, the mine is beginning to take off.
We started by correcting the situation in the area of SMEs to empower more citizens,” explained Simuuwe.

He revealed that in 2021, only K41 million was released towards the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) and the UPND increased the fund to K365 million after taking over power.

“The number of beneficiaries increased and we are expanding the number of beneficiaries year by year,” said Simuuwe.

I’m ready to lead Tonse – Mundubile

I’M READY TO BE TONSE ALLIANCE’S 2026 CANDIDATE – MUNDUBILE.

MPOROKOSO PF member of parliament Brian Mundubile says he is available and ready to stand as Tonse Alliance presidential candidate in 2026.
And Mundubile says opposition political parties should form a durable alliance which will manage to get UPND out of office.

Speaking when he featured on Mafken FM, Sunday Mundubile said he was ready to serve Tonse Alliance as its president and later, to lead the country.

“I have seen a number of posts, especially on social media but like I said, I am listening to the people and the very fact that in the beginning, when a call was made, I had accepted, I am definitely available should Tonse [Alliance] come up with my name as a preferred candidate, I stand ready to serve the alliance and later to serve the nation,” he said.

And Mundubile said there was need for opposition political parties to form durable alliances which would manage to get UPND out of office.

“If you look at the performance of the opposition political parties in the recent by-elections, you will realise that the vote going to the opposition is actually more than the vote that is going to the ruling party. So, if at all we are going to remove the UPND from power, which in my view is very urgent, as many Zambians know that the UPND has lamentably failed, they have not fulfilled their promises as they have been promising over the 23 years in opposition. So, to save Zambia from the hardships, the high poverty levels, the opposition political parties must come together. So, the call by president Edgar Lungu and the call by the comrade, Fred M’membe, is timely,” he said.

“The opposition political parties need to understand one thing; they need to understand that there can only be one president at any given time. But they must also understand the greater call from the Zambian people. The greater call from the Zambians baleti alatwachula tutuleni (they are saying we have suffered, deliver us). Many Zambians are going without food every day. Look at how many people are dying in hospitals because of bad policies. The UPND government would prioritise the export of power at the expense of dying patients in hospitals. They would prioritise export of maize at the expense of the many hungry Zambians. Look at the levels of corruption in the UPND government, it is unprecedented. The levels of corruption as reported from the FIC Report are unprecedented. Previously, the higher figure we got in the FIC relating to suspicious transactions was K2 billion.

The three years the UPND has been in power, there’s been K61 billion, there’s been US$2.8 billion, there’s been K3.5 billion, there’s been K5.8 billion. So, this is not a government anyone would want to continue beyond 2026. Now, to be able to do that, the opposition political parties, they need to come together and form durable alliances that will see the UPND out of power, that will serve the vast interests of the Zambian people”.

Meanwhile, Mundubile said PF had failed to resolve their internal wrangles because UPND was sponsoring the confusion.

“In-house challenges are resolved through dialogue but the in-house challenges of the PF have been unique because they have not necessarily been differences within ourselves. These have been sponsored differences by the UPND government and that’s why it has been very difficult to resolve them. If you look at the relationships we enjoy, Miles Sampa is my childhood friend, we went to the same University, we talk every other day. All these other people, people like [Robert] Chabinga are people I didn’t know, I met them much later in life so I may not say much about him. We would have been able to sit down and resolve these differences if there was no invisible hand,” he said.

“Now, because of the invisible hand that has been working late in the night, changing names at Registrar of Societies, organising conferences in the middle of the night, acting outside the Patriotic Front constitution, that’s the reason why the issue to do with PF has been very difficult because it’s a sponsored programme by the UPND. So, going forward, I think that as members of the alliance, we are now focused on the broader picture of serving the country. You can imagine what sort of leaders we’ll we be. We have wasted three years fighting while people are dying with hunger”.

Mundubile said former president Edgar Lungu took a bold step by engaging other political parties in a bid to find ways to help the country.

“So, president Edgar Chagwa Lungu decided to take a bold step. He took a bold step, that focusing on fights in the party when we know UPND has sponsored these programmes, can we call other political parties and see how we can help the country. I think that in terms of priorities, I would give priority towards serving the greater majority of the Zambian people than focusing on these challenges, the conflicts that are happening within the party. We would allocate a small percentage in terms of time and focus most of the time on resolving the challenges the Zambian people are facing,” he said.

Asked whether he was prepared to face Law Enforcement Agencies due to his growing popularity, Mundubile replied in the affirmative.

“I saw that post from comrade Fred (M’membe). I say to myself that we’ll wait and see because I think it’s been three years going to four years since the UPND came into power and during that time, I held a very crucial position as leader of opposition and obviously, I saw the persecution of a number of my colleagues by the current government merely because of their dissenting voice. And if the past four years they didn’t see anything that I had done wrong or where I had offended the law and they can only see it now, we stand ready. I stand ready,” said Mundubile.

South Korea Declares 7-day National Mourning As 179 Die In Plane Crash

0

The South Korean government, on Sunday, declared seven days of national mourning for the tragic plane crash at Muan International Airport, South Korea, claiming the lives of 179 persons on board and leaving just two survivors.

The crash occurred after the aircraft which was carrying 181 people, veered off the runway during landing and collided with a concrete fence, bursting into flames as a result, Yonhap News Agency reported.

Initial reports had indicated that there were 85 fatalities while two crew members survived. However, the toll has since risen as all of the plane’s 175 passengers were killed in the crash, along with four flight staff, according to the BBC, sighting Yonhap News Agency.

According to the BBC, the two survivors were taken to the hospital for immediate medical attention.

Reacting to the incident, Acting President Choi Sang-mok announced that the mourning period will be from December 29, extending until midnight on January 4.

In a show of solidarity, Chinese President Xi Jinping posted his condolences on Telegram to the victims and their families.

He said, “On behalf of the Chinese government and people, I express my deep condolences to the victims and my sincerest consolations to the victims’ families, and wish for the swift recovery of the injured,” China’s state-run CCTV reported.

The Jeju Air flight, Boeing 737-800, was returning from Bangkok, Thailand, with 175 passengers and six crew members when its front landing gear failed to deploy during landing.

The incident occurred at 9:03 AM local time (00:00 GMT), a town approximately 290 kilometers (180 miles) south of Seoul, according to the National Fire Agency.

The passengers were mostly South Korean nationals, along with two Thai citizens.

Footage by local media showed the plane skidding across the runway with its landing gear retracted before colliding head-on with a concrete wall.

The impact triggered a massive fire, with thick black smoke seen rising from the wreckage while the tail section of the aircraft remained the only recognizable area after the crash.

Officials are investigating the cause of the crash, but have insisted the crash was not was not due to “any maintenance issues”,

According to the head of Jeju Air’s management team Song Kyung-hoon, “there are areas we have to investigate further by determining the exact cause of the crash,” Yonhap news agency reported.

Kyung-hoon explained that they leave “no stone unturned” regarding their maintenance checks ahead of take-offs, adding that the company’s insurance plan should be able to support the victims and their families.

Ja Rule Calls 50 Cent A ‘Fat Liar’ After He Doubles Down On Concert Tickets Claim

0

Ja Rule has hit out at 50 Cent after his old enemy once again claimed that he bought tickets to one of his shows so that hundreds of seats would be left empty.

During a recent interview with Big Boy, 50 repeated the claim by saying: “I did [buy Ja Rule’s tickets]. They were cheap tickets. The tickets were very affordable. They were on StubHub. I bought the first four rows.”

He added: “I looked at it and said, ‘I just want you to feel like you gotta reach the people, four or five rows back’ [laughs].”

50 also said: “It wasn’t that big of a sacrifice. I’ve bought things that mean less to me. That was fun, watching the show and seeing the spaces are empty because they were reserved for someone else.”

Ja Rule fired back on Sunday (December 29), calling his longtime nemesis a “fat fucking liar” over his comments.

“You believe this dumb shit???” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Like I said before I got 10k for ANYONE who can produce this footage a photo shit what city/venue did this said show take place??? @50cent is a fat fucking LIAR.”

In response to a fan who said they “cant wait for 50 response,” Ja wrote: “Me too… [crying face emoji]” and posted a gif of him holding out his ear to the crowd.

The former Murder Inc. rapper has previously called cap on 50 Cent’s claim about buying his concert tickets.

Back in 2019, after 50 said he snapped up 200 tickets to one of his shows, Ja wrote on social media: “This [clown emoji] 50 Cent is the pathological LIAR. I’ll cash app 10 bands to ANYBODY who has pics or footage of said show bozo bought 200 tix to so it could be empty … I’ll wait… y’all believe anything goofy [they] tell y’all.”

Ja Rule later said to HipHopDX about 50’s claim: “Listen, we live in a world where everything is on video. Come on, man. Stop with the foolery, man!

“Even the thought of it is stupid because n-gga, all you did if you did that was put money in my pocket. And what you think the promoter is going to do? Have an empty venue? You let n-ggas in free or charge them again!

“Zimbabwe Is The New Australia For China” – President Mnangagwa’s Biographer Raises Alarm On Chinese Exploitation

0

Eddie Cross, a former Member of Parliament, economic advisor to President Mnangagwa, and author of the president’s official biography, has sparked a heated debate by comparing Zimbabwe’s relationship with China to Australia’s role as a resource supplier. Drawing parallels between the two nations’ dependence on Chinese demand for raw materials, Cross warns that Zimbabwe is becoming a vital cog in China’s industrial machine while receiving limited benefits in return.

In an article published on his website, Cross provided a detailed critique of Chinese activities in Zimbabwe, raising concerns about their environmental, economic, and social impact. His close relationship with the president and deep understanding of Zimbabwean politics lend significant weight to his assertions.

“I was astonished to hear the other day that there are now over 85,000 Chinese nationals living in Zimbabwe,” he wrote. “They are not migrants; they all want to go home eventually. What on earth are they doing here?”

His statements have ignited public discourse, with many applauding his boldness and others questioning his claims.

“The New Australia?”

In his article, Cross explained how Zimbabwe mirrors Australia’s role as a raw material supplier for China’s industrial ambitions.

“They have targeted us for raw materials for the industrial monster at home. We have the largest iron ore deposits in the world, plenty of limestone and coal, and the best chrome deposits globally,” he stated.

While the influx of Chinese investment has bolstered Zimbabwe’s export earnings, Cross criticised the lack of local value addition.

“We applaud them because shortly we will be exporting 5 million tonnes of lithium concentrate annually to China. But we’re missing the fact that it might contain other minerals worth many times more,” he added.

Environmental and Economic Concerns

Cross expressed alarm at the environmental impact of Chinese mining operations in Zimbabwe.

“They ignore environmental regulations and leave behind a moonscape of countryside,” he stated, likening the aftermath to a “World War I battlefield.”

He also pointed to the Marange diamond fields, where an estimated $30 billion worth of raw diamonds has been mined since 2008.

“The people of Marange still wallow in poverty. The active diamond fields do not have a single kilometre of tarred road,” Cross lamented.

Saviour Kasukuwere, a prominent Zimbabwean politician, echoed Cross’s concerns. On Twitter, he said,

“Leaders have a duty to protect and superintend national interests. Eddie Cross’s article requires attention and a sober conversation.”

A Call for Balance

Cross emphasised the need for Zimbabwe to re-evaluate its relationship with China, urging transparency and fair agreements.

“We must get back full value for our exports to China. Our relationship must be carefully balanced,” he wrote.

He concluded,

“The rape and pillage of our resources for marginal results simply cannot be allowed to continue.”

With his background as an economic advisor and his role in crafting Mnangagwa’s biography, Cross’s remarks have intensified the national debate on the nature of Zimbabwe-China relations.

Full Article: What is the Chinese Motivation in Zimbabwe

(Excerpt from Eddie Cross’s article, published 29th December 2024)

I was astonished to hear the other day that there are now over 85,000 Chinese nationals living in Zimbabwe. I questioned this estimate and was told no, it’s real.

Transgender child molester at a women’s prison has been accused of s£xually ass@ulting her cellmate

A transgender child molester at a women’s prison has been accused of s£xually ass@ulting her cellmate.

Former Washington Corrections Center for Women inmate Mozzy Clark-Sanchez claims Christopher Scott Williams – who identifies as a woman – subjected her to months of stalking, threats of violence, and s£xual harassment and assault while they were cellmates.

In a federal lawsuit, Clark-Sanchez claims Williams petitioned the Washington State Department of Corrections to be recognized as a female and transferred to a women’s prison.

Williams had allegedly assaulted a male prison guard to the point that he was rendered unconscious, according to KIRO.

The state granted the request, and placed Williams in a cell with Clark-Sanchez, according to the suit against the Department of Corrections.

During that time, Clark-Sanchez claims Williams would threaten to rape her, ogle her while she was in the shower, and constantly ask for sex, including once with a homemade dildo he brought into the cell, the New York Post reported.

‘Mr. Williams… would hover menacingly over Ms. Clark’s bunk with an erection while touching himself,’ the suit alleges, according to the publication.

‘He would also display his erection to Ms. Clark against the wall and gesture towards it, saying how much he wanted her.

‘One night, Ms. Clark woke up and saw inmate Williams sitting on the floor next to her bed with his arms under her blanket, rubbing her genitals.’

Eventually, Williams was moved to a separate cell, but allegedly proceeded to seek out Clark-Sanchez while she was in the shower or bathroom and make perverted comments from the next stall.

‘He also started threatening her with violence if she complained about him again,’ the suit alleges.

It goes on to claim that prison officials ignored Clark-Sanchez’s concerns and discouraged her from filing official complaints.

The lawsuit also states that officials were aware of Williams’ prior sexual assault of a former female cellmate.

The prison maintained policies that Clark-Sanchez argues violate the constitutional rights of female inmates – including by housing biologically male prisoners with known histories of violence and sexual offenses in women’s facilities.

Arrest records obtained by the National Review show that at the age of 16, Williams s£xually ass@ulted her nine-year-old sister by rubbing her buttocks and vaginal area over her clothing.

She was arrested and charged with first-degree child molestation in 2006 and pleaded guilty to third-degree assault with s£xual motivation.

‘Chris said that he knew what he did was wrong, but he could not help it,’ the police report allegedly reads.

‘He said that his hormones were acting up. Chris said that [the child] was wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt.’

In a follow-up conversation with police, Williams’ father said she first molested her sister three years earlier, when the girl was just around six years old.

Williams was then convicted in 2009 and 2010 of failing to register as a sex offender.

In June 2012, Williams allegedly ass@ulted her girlfriend, and just a few months later, in September, Williams was accused of assaulting a male prison officer.

‘Williams stopped when he heard [the officer] “screaming like a little baby,”‘ a probable cause affidavit obtained by the National Review said.

‘He described [Officer] Barrett’s screams “like a death scream.”‘

The officer’s injuries included damage to his ear, which had to be cut open to relieve swelling, broken bones under his right cheek needing extensive stitching, a knocked out tooth and a nose so severely damaged it required emergency surgery to reconstruct, the outlet reports.

She was then convicted of second-degree assault.

Clark-Sanchez is now seeking damages for emotional distress, humiliation, and violations of her constitutional rights under the First, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendments.

Air Canada plane skids off runway and catches fire

Halifax Stanfield International Airport was closed for approximately 90 minutes Saturday night after a landing issue involving Air Canada Flight 2259, operated by PAL Airlines. The plane, arriving from St. John’s, skidded down the runway during landing, with part of the aircraft catching fire.

Passenger Nikki Valentine described the harrowing experience, stating that one of the plane’s tires failed to deploy properly.

“The plane started to sit at about a 20-degree angle to the left and, as that happened, we heard a pretty loud — what almost sounded like a crash sound — as the wing of the plane started to skid along the pavement, along with what I presume was the engine,” Valentine told CBC.

As the plane skidded down the runway, the pilots worked to bring it to a stop. “The plane shook quite a bit, and we started seeing fire on the left side of the plane, and smoke started coming in the windows,” Valentine recounted.

The incident, which occurred around 9:30 p.m. AT, involved 73 passengers and crew. Passengers were evacuated by bus after the plane came to a halt and could not reach the terminal.

Air Canada spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick confirmed a “suspected landing gear issue” was responsible for the incident. While Fitzpatrick stated there were no injuries, the Nova Scotia RCMP reported minor injuries among some passengers.

Valentine said the evacuation process took about two minutes. “One side of the entire plane was on fire, so everyone was pretty much in a hurry to get off — but an organized hurry,” she explained.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) announced it is deploying a team of investigators to examine the incident involving the de Havilland DHC-8-402 aircraft.

The airport reopened one of its runways after the closure, but the aircraft remains on the closed runway. Four flights were diverted, and several others were delayed or canceled during the closure.

Further updates from the TSB investigation are expected as officials begin their inquiry into the cause of the accident.

Beyoncé ‘upset and concerned’ after judge refused to throw out r@pe claims against Jay-Z

Beyoncé has reportedly been left ‘upset and concerned’ after a judge chose not to throw out r@pe claims filed against her husband Jay-Z, but she is ‘sticking’ by her husband.

Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, is currently locked in a legal fight against a woman who accused him of r@ping her when she was 13 years old.

After several attempts to dismiss the case or force the woman to be publicly identified, Judge Analisa Torres sided with his accuser on Thursday, granting the woman anonymity for the next stage of proceedings.

Now a source has exclusively revealed to DailyMail.com that amid her husband’s legal woes, Beyoncé, 43, has accepted that ‘there isn’t anything she can do except support her man.’

They said she ‘1,000 percent believes him,’ and is ‘heartbroken’ that his accuser is a ‘similar age’ to their daughter, Blue Ivy, 12.

‘Beyoncé is upset and concerned about the allegations brought on to her husband,’ the insider began.

‘She 1,000 percent believes him. But it is very stressful to deal with, not only because everything is such in the public eye, but as a mother of a daughter at a similar age to the accuser at the time, it is heartbreaking.

‘Beyoncé, who has been blessed with a life where she usually has control of her own narrative, now has to deal with this, and there isn’t anything she can do except support her man and be there for each other as the legal side of things goes through its motions.’

The insider added that the Blackbird singer has accepted that there isn’t much she can do to help how her husband is seen by the world right now.

They continued: ‘It is a struggle to deal with and for her to try to think on ways to help the situation is tiring, especially when she can only literally do a certain amount things that may sway public perception.

‘She will be by Jay’s side throughout and she is starting to accept that is all she can really do.’

They noted that the star is keen to get back to her normal life as soon as possible, stating: ‘She is praying this will be over soon and isn’t dragged out. Everyone wants to get back to their life and everyone wants to be happy.

‘The one positive that could come from this is that they will be a stronger family afterward. Because right now it is a black eye on their otherwise wonderful life.’

Elsewhere, a second source noted that the case had caused a lot of ’emotional turmoil’ for the hitmaker.

They explained while at first, she was going to go ‘into overdrive’ to try and ‘show what a good man her husband is,’ she has now decided to take a different approach.

‘She knows that she must let this play out and not try to get involved anymore because it really does not involve her at all,’ they stated.

The woman, referred to as Jane Doe, alleges that Carter, along with disgraced rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, drugged and r@ped her when she was 13 at an after-party for the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards in New York City.

Carter has vehemently denied the claims, calling them baseless.

In a five-page filing released on Thursday, Judge Torres condemned Spiro’s aggressive legal maneuvers, describing them as ‘combative’ and filled with ‘inflammatory language and ad hominem attacks.’

She accused Carter’s attorney of attempting to ‘fast-track the judicial process’ by repeatedly filing motions to reveal the identity of Jane Doe and dismiss the case.

‘Carter’s lawyer’s relentless filing of combative motions containing inflammatory language and ad hominem attacks is inappropriate, a waste of judicial resources, and a tactic unlikely to benefit his client,’ Torres stated firmly.

South Korea Inspects Boeing 737-800 Fleet After Jeju Air Crash

0

The South Korean government has launched a comprehensive inspection of all Boeing 737-800 aircraft operated by the nation’s airlines following the devastating Jeju Air plane crash on Sunday that claimed 179 lives.

South Korean investigators will be joined by U.S. air safety officials and representatives from Boeing to probe the country’s worst aviation disaster in decades.

The crash occurred after the aircraft carrying 181 people veered off the runway during landing and collided with a concrete fence, bursting into flames as a result, Yonhap News Agency reported.

According to the BBC, just two crew members survived the crash and were taken to the hospital for immediate medical attention.

Initial reports suggested the crash may have been caused by a bird strike, but the South Korean government has launched an investigation into the real cause of the crash.

Acting President Choi Sang-mok, who assumed office just days ago, visited the site and pledged full government support for victims’ families and a thorough investigation.

Choi who stepped in after the impeachment of his predecessor, announced urgent safety inspections across the country’s aviation systems to prevent future tragedies.

“Our government is making every effort to identify victims and support bereaved families,” Choi said, emphasizing a commitment to uncovering the cause of the crash.

While officials are investigating the cause of the crash, the airline has insisted the crash was not was not due to “any maintenance issues”,

The head of Jeju Air’s management team, Song Kyung-hoon, on Sunday, said “there are areas we have to investigate further by determining the exact cause of the crash,” Yonhap news agency reported.

Kyung-hoon explained that they leave “no stone unturned” regarding their maintenance checks ahead of take-offs, adding that the company’s insurance plan should be able to support the victims and their families.

South Korea, which has a strong aviation safety record, has recovered both the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder from the wreckage.

Joo Seong-hwan a senior government official disclosed to local media that 146 victims have been identified through DNA and fingerprint analysis.

Grieving families have set up camp in temporary shelters at Muan International Airport, as the country begins a seven-day national mourning period.

The tragedy has shaken South Korea’s aviation sector, prompting widespread calls for improved safety measures as investigators work to uncover the root cause of the disaster.

Beyonce earned more than $1m per minute for her Netflix NFL halftime performance

Beyoncé delivered a top-notch 13-minute halftime performance during Netflix’s NFL Christmas Day doubleheader at NRG Stadium in Houston, with reports indicating she was paid $20m for her efforts.

The show was held during the Baltimore Ravens’ big win over the Houston Texans and featured special appearances by Shaboozey, Post Malone, and Beyoncé’s 12-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy.

According to reports, the performance is a part of Beyoncé’s ongoing partnership with Netflix, which includes three major projects.

The first was a documentary on her acclaimed 2019 Coachella performance with the halftime show being the second but details of a third are yet to be released.

Fans on social media have produced mixed reactions to the performance, with some fans calling it Super Bowl-worthy, while others sounded far from impressed.

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy took to social media on X to criticize the performance and wrote: “Beyoncé has been LOST since Destiny’s Child.”

The Christmas Day appearance was Beyoncé’s first performance since wrapping her Renaissance World Tour in October 2023 and her third time taking the stage at halftime during an NFL game.

She headlined the Super Bowl halftime show in 2013 and performed with Bruno Mars and Coldplay in 2016.

Netflix’s involvement in the NFL event is now seen as a departure from the tradition of Super Bowl halftime performers going unpaid, relying instead on exposure from a global perspective.

The Grammy history-maker’s performance came amid legal controversies involving Jay-Z, who is her husband.

Jay Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs have been accused in a lawsuit of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl at an MTV Video Music Awards after-party back in 2000.

Both of the music stars have denied the allegations, yet Diddy also faces charges of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy.

A source close to Beyoncé told The Sun that the music star remains focused on her career though it looks like a tough time for her family.

“It’s been a very tough few months for Beyoncé, but she’s laser-focused on making her upcoming tour a success,” the source said.

Reports indicate that a new album and tour announcement is also expected in the coming weeks, with the tour rumored to begin in Los Angeles in March 2025.

Djokovic Rejects Retirement Talks, Targets 11th Australian Open Title

0

Tennis legend Novak Djokovic has revealed his plans to continue playing for years to come as he prepares to challenge the new generation led by Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

He endured a disappointing season last year by his standards, failing to win a Grand Slam and securing just one title — an Olympic gold in Paris.

Djokovic also dropped to world number seven, he has expressed his determination to climb back up the rankings.

He said : “I’m looking for a good start to the season, and I’m aiming for more consistency across all tournaments,” he said, ahead of his appearance at the Brisbane International this week.

“I plan to play more tournaments this year than I did last season, so I hope my level improves. Hopefully, I’ll win more titles and regain the ranking I deserve.”

The 2025 season is starting without any of the other “Big Four” — following the retirements of Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray this year, and Roger Federer in 2022 — Djokovic remains focused on his ambitions.

The 38-year-old dismissed talks of retirement as he targets his 11th Australian Open, which would bring his Grand Slam tally to a record 25.

Djokovic said: “The way I feel today, I believe I can continue playing at a high level for years to come,” he said. “But how long I’ll stay motivated is unpredictable. I still love this sport and competing.”

He will begin his Australian Open campaign against Australian wildcard Rinky Hijikata, marking his first official tournament since losing to Sinner in the 2024 Shanghai Masters final.

Djokovic will also compete in doubles alongside Nick Kyrgios.

The Serbian has enjoyed a successful career, winning 99 singles titles, including a record 72 Big Titles: 24 majors, a record 40 Masters, a record seven year-end championships, and an Olympic gold medal.

Five people charged in connection with One Direction star Liam Payne’s de@th

Five people have reportedly been charged in connection with One Direction star Liam Payne’s de@th in Argentina.

Argentinian online newspaper Infobae published that five people have been charged by a judge and two have been remanded in custody.

The site claims that one of those charged is Liam’s friend Rogelio ‘Roger’ Nores, who said he left the singer at the CasaSur Palermo hotel about an hour before he fell to his de@th.

Infobae reported that the authorities have charged him with negligent homicide.

Braian Paiz, a waiter who admitted to using drugs, including coc@ine, with the singer, was charged with supplying narcotics for payment.

CasaSur employee Ezequiel Pereyra was allegedly also charged with supplying drugs.

Hotel managers Gilda Martín and Esteban Grassi have reportedly been charged with manslaughter. All five have been summoned to appear in court.

The One Direction star died on October 16 after falling from a third floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31.

Police launched a wide-ranging investigation into his death and previously Nores denied being a suspect.

A 911 call the day the singer died warned that he had been acting aggressively and could have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Grassi, the chief receptionist, claimed Liam called down ‘insistently’ to ask for alcohol, and to ask where he could get cocaine, allegedly insulting a member of staff who said he could not help.

Text messages purporting to have been exchanged between Liam and an escort in which he offered her $5,000 (£3,900) to ‘party’.

It came as reports suggested a psychiatrist had emailed Nores to advise it was ‘impossible’ to continue supporting Liam with his mental health – and to warn of the risks associated with mixing antidepressants and alcohol.

Alleged dealers Braian Nahuel Paiz and Ezequiel David Pereyra, a former employee at the Buenos Aires hotel, said they were ‘retaining their right to remain silent’ during a previous hearing in front of Laura Bruniard.

Following a police investigation, both defendants were charged with the crime of supplying narcotics for payment, which could lead to a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.

Slot Hails World Class Salah For Setting Two Premier League Records

0

Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah scored a goal and recorded two assists in the 5-0 away win against West Ham to extend their lead on top of the log to eight points.

Salah continued his impressive form for Liverpool this season with another match-winning performance, setting two new records to further boost the team’s Premier League title hopes.

The Egyptian became the first player to register a goal, and an assist in eight different Premier League matches in a single season.

He has also been involved in 30 Premier League goals already in 18 games, the fewest appearances any player has needed to reach 30 goal involvements in a single campaign in the competition.

The 32-year-old has also recorded 23 assists in all competitions in 2024, the most by any Liverpool player in a single calendar year in the Premier League era.

Salah’s incredible form has led to another title dream for Liverpool, who have won 14 out of their 18 Premier League games under new coach, Arne Slot.

The Dutch manager has described Salah as the best player in the world following his impressive form in the 2024-25 season.

He said: “If you look at Mo (Salah) and his numbers, you can’t argue that (he’s the best player in the world) There are a lot of players out there with a lot of quality, but he is up there. He’s in a very good place, let’s hope he can stay like this for a long time.

“To control an away game is not easy, but we didn’t give the West Ham fans a lot to cheer about.

“It’s been a great year. I’ve had a whole year with only one loss (for him). There’s a very long way to go this season, but it’s been a very good first half.”

“Mo and the word extraordinary is something I’ve heard a lot in the last six months — he truly deserves this.

“We know what a player he is and we know what he’s able to do. But apart from that, he works really hard for the team also when the other team has the ball and yeah, we can only hope that he can keep bringing these performances in.

“But I would like to add that if he scores, there’s also a lead up to him scoring. So there are also other players that bring him in these positions, but if you bring Mo in these positions, he’s extraordinary. Definitely.”

Slot was also full of praise for his team for their dominant display against West Ham, which denied the hosts from having any shot on target all through the game.

He said: “The way we played with the ball, the amount of chances we created, and the control we took in an away game, which is always difficult. I don’t think we gave the West Ham fans a lot to cheer about today and that was the most important.

“Consistency, enough challenges will come starting with Man United at home which is a big game even if you don’t look at the league table. It’s nine games in January plus the first of February, that’s a lot.”

Similarly, West Ham coach, Julian Lopetegui also hailed Salah as the best player in the world, while describing Liverpool as the best team in the Premier League.

He said: “Mo Salah is at the moment one of the best players, even the best player in the world.

He added: “We are talking about the best team in the Premier League and one of the best in the world. In the first half the match was gone, so it was a tough game for us.”

Meanwhile, Mohammed Salah has revealed that he is not setting his sights on the individual accolades, but he is only interested in leading Liverpool to the Premier League title.

He said: “The only thing in my mind, to be fair, is I want Liverpool to win the league and I just want to be part of that. That’s the only thing I’ve really focused [on] since the beginning of the season. I will do my best for the team to win trophies.

“We are in the right direction but of course there are a few other teams really trying to catch up with us and they are very good teams. We just need to stay focused and humble, work hard and just go again.”

Up next for Liverpool is a home clash against Manchester United on Sunday, while West Ham takes on Manchester City.

THABO KAWANA APOLOGIZES TO MALANJI AND LUSAMBO

KAWANA APOLOGIZES TO MALANJI AND LUSAMBO

..Edgar Lungu and his associates paid over $130,000 to save Kawana’s life…

Lusaka-30th December 2024

There was a heated debate on a WhatsApp blog called Dynamic Analysis between Patriotic Front Chairperson for Information and Publicity, Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba and Permanent Secretary for Information and Media, Thabo Kawana.

On the blog, Kawana repeatedly kept on referring to PF leaders as thieves, jackals and tribalists.

This prompted Mwamba to respond and appealed to Kawana to show gratitude to President Edgar Lungu, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Joseph Malanji, former Minister of National Development Planning, Alexander Chiteme and others, that responded during his hour of need and saved Kawana’s life when they paid over $130,000 for his medical bills in India and China.

Kawana dismissed these assertions, stating that former President Edgar Lungu only contributed $10,000 for his medical bills.

Kawana also stated that people like Joseph Malanji have never given him any money of significance.

Mwamba then branded Kawana as a person was a proceed of crime as his life is a result of benefiting from people he alleged stole funds from government.

Mwamba advised Kawana to reflect and show gratitude citing a bible verse from Proverbs 17;13 which states that;

“Whoever returns evil for good, evil will not depart from his house.”

And when Hon. Malanji finally read Kawana’s claims, he expressed shock at the lies.

Malanji wrote;

“Thabo!!!! I have just seen this and I feel insulted. I started giving you money in Rupiah Banda’s time. Was I in government? What you must know is God uses us as vessels to give whoever he wants to help.”

“Please choose your words carefully. I took you as my young brother and not the nonsense you are talking about.”

“I can assure you I can pull out BARCLAYS BANK statements that will show when you received money from me and I wasn’t a minister” Malanji dared Kawana.

This response appears to have shocked Kawana, who in apparent contrition immediately apologised.

“Okay for you Sir, I choose to respect you and if I am to engage you I would rather do it away from the public eye.”

“And besides, I will always be your young boy no matter what I become or not become. You reserve the right to even summon me to you whenever you want to tell me something.”

“So if you read carefully through the threads, you will notice the person who brought you in the picture is Emmanuel and what he was trying to achieve using your name and my response thereof.”

“I can never disrespect you and yourself, Bowman and I come along way from RB days and so it is not in my place to argue, disrespect and let alone insult you, no Sir.”

“My apologies for making you feel insulted but I did not in any way intend to make you feel that way.”

“And yes Sir you used to give me money even before you became Minister, just as I used to do to many others before I became PS.”

“Only I wouldn’t hold it against them in any way whatsoever.”

“Kind regards and a happy new year to you Sir “
