Thabo Bester’s Urgent Bid to Challenge Prison Transfer Struck Off the Roll

Convicted murderer and rapist Thabo Bester had his urgent application in the High Court in Pretoria struck from the court roll as he sought to challenge his transfer from the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Services Centre in Pretoria to the eBongweni Super Maximum Correctional Facility in Kokstad, KwaZulu-Natal.

Judge Elizabeth Kubushi found that his bid was not genuinely urgent and that it was not properly enrolled, meaning the court did not even consider the substance of his arguments.

Bester’s legal team had argued that the move carried out without prior notice severely hampered his ability to consult with his lawyers and prepare for his ongoing trial in the Free State, but the judge said there was no basis to hear the matter as an urgent application at this time.

Paul O’Sullivan Threatenes To Withdraw His Cooperation With The Ad Hoc Committee

Paul O’Sullivan Threatenes To Withdraw His Cooperation With The Ad Hoc Committee.

Controversial Forensic Investigator Paul O’Sullivan threatens to withdraw his cooperation with the #AdHocCommittee, saying he did not come to be interrogated over allegations made by criminals.

He insists he appeared to give evidence on corruption in the criminal justice system and warns that if the hearing turns into a “kangaroo court” focused on defending himself, he will not continue assisting the committee.

It seemed as if O’Sullivan was angered by EFF leader Julius Malema who requesting that their legal team or parliamentary secretary to get the Acsa advert where they were advertising the position which they offered to O’Sullivan.

O’Sullivan jumped and said:

“Am I here to give evidence or to be interrogated? I am going to withdraw my cooperation. I am not going to assist in a kangaroo court. I came here to give evidence about the corruption in the criminal justice system which has resulted in the mess that we have in the criminal justice system today.

“The false allegations that have been made against me will take a lot more than an hour to get through. And if it’s going to be curtailed because people don’t want to hear the truth, it means what we’re actually doing is not allowing a witness to explain why this happened and why that happened.”

He further accused other witnesses of peddling false narratives that he had infiltrated the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and the South African Police Service (SAPS) for ulterior motives.

“What I cannot contemplate is that everyone should think I woke up one day and decided to infiltrate IPID, the police and the NPA, because that pack of lies has been peddled in this House by multiple witnesses that belong in prison.

“I didn’t come here just to defend myself against the allegations of criminals. And if that’s the only thing the committee wants to hear, then it will be a problem, because the reality is that those allegations were only made against me because I took steps to hold them accountable for their criminal conduct,” he said.

O’Sullivan will continue with his

Alleged DJ Warras Killer and Orchestrator Appear Together in Court

The two men accused of assassinating Johannesburg media personality Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock appeared together in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court this morning , where the matter was postponed to 1 April 2026.

Armindo Joaquim Pacula (right), the alleged shooter, previously indicated through his lawyer that he intends to plead guilty after reviewing the docket. His co-accused, Victor Majola (left), who is accused of orchestrating the murder, was earlier denied bail.

The court heard that investigators are still awaiting the downloading and analysis of cellphone communication between the suspects, as well as a ballistic report.

CCTV footage is also outstanding.

The State indicated that it is waiting for all the evidence to be finalised before the matter can properly proceed.

THE MAN WHO WAS BURIED THREE TIMES.

When Nkrumah was very sick in Guinea from the numerous effects of the bombs* at him, he told J.A Kuffour who was a Deputy Foreign Minister to convince his boss Busia to allow him come home for medical treatment. The two refused Nkrumah back to Ghana on the notion that; it will have severe security implications to Busia’s Government. He was flown on a stretcher to Romania far at the country side for medical attention on his wish to be treated by a Private doctor but couldnt make it.

After his death, many African Presidents wanted to bury him in their countries. But Sèkou Touré refused and on April 1972 in Guinea, Conakry. Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was buried with Africa Presidents carrying his Casket.

When General I. k  Acheampong overthrew Busia’s government, he pleased with Sèkou Touré to give back Nkrumah’s body to Ghana, he refused – a lot of negotiations went on; not on until July 1972, he was buried in Nkrofu his hometown in Nzema-Western Region.

When Jerry Rawlings established the 4th Republic, he didnt like the burial place of Nkrumah. He built a Mausoleum at Accra and in July 1992. Nkrumah was buried for the third time.

Akuffo Addo renovated the place and added his uncle J. B Danquah and his family members pictures to disintegrated the place.

In the future when John Dramani Mahama builds the Ghana’s New Capital. Nkrumah ll be buried the fourth time at the center of the Capital signifying the Black Star of Africa.

Trump calls for Obama arrest over alleged 2016 coup

0

Former President Donald Trump has escalated political tensions by accusing Barack Obama and intelligence officials of orchestrating what he describes as a “coup” during the 2016 election transition.

In a series of posts, Trump demanded accountability and claimed efforts were made to undermine his presidency before it began. He has not presented verified evidence supporting the allegation.

The reaction was immediate and deeply divided.

Supporters say long-standing questions deserve investigation. Critics call the claims inflammatory and politically strategic, especially with the 2026 midterms approaching.

The controversy once again highlights the widening fault lines in American politics — where competing narratives battle for dominance in a hyper-polarized environment.

Disclaimer:
These claims are allegations made by Donald Trump. No court has established that Barack Obama orchestrated a coup. Statements remain politically disputed.

China Develops Compact High-Power Microwave System Potentially Targeting Low-Earth-Orbit Satellites

China Develops Compact High-Power Microwave System Potentially Targeting Low-Earth-Orbit Satellites

Chinese researchers have reportedly developed a groundbreaking compact high-power microwave (HPM) driver that could enable advanced directed-energy weapons capable of disrupting or damaging satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). The system, designated TPG1000Cs, was detailed in a study published by scientists from the Northwest Institute of Nuclear Technology (NINT) in Xi’an, a facility linked to China’s military.

Key features of the breakthrough include:

  • Power output: Up to 20 gigawatts (GW) in electrical pulses, sustained for bursts as long as 60 seconds—far exceeding previous systems limited to seconds or less.
  • Compact design: The device measures about 4 meters long and weighs only 5 tons, making it mountable on trucks, warships, aircraft, or potentially other platforms.
  • Efficiency gains: Achieved through advanced liquid insulating materials (e.g., Midel 7131), enabling higher energy density, better insulation, and reduced losses.

Experts estimate that a ground-based HPM weapon exceeding 1 GW could severely interfere with or damage LEO satellite networks. This has led to speculation about its potential as a “Starlink killer,” targeting large constellations like SpaceX’s Starlink, which operates thousands of satellites in LEO for global broadband. Chinese media and researchers have explicitly framed the technology as a counter to such proliferated LEO systems, which they view as dual-use (civilian-military) assets.

HPM weapons work by emitting intense electromagnetic pulses that can overload, jam, or permanently fry onboard electronics—disrupting communications, navigation, sensors, or command links without kinetic destruction. Unlike traditional anti-satellite missiles (which create debris risks), HPM offers a “soft-kill” or non-kinetic option that is harder to detect and attribute.

Details on full system capabilities, operational deployment status, or testing against actual satellites remain unconfirmed and classified. The TPG1000Cs is described as a driver (power source) for an HPM weapon, not a complete operational system. No independent Western verification of its performance exists, and claims originate from Chinese state-affiliated sources and media (e.g., South China Morning Post coverage in early February 2026).

This development adds significant tension to ongoing global debates on space security:

  • Space has become a critical strategic domain for major powers (U.S., China, Russia), with satellites underpinning military C4ISR, navigation (GPS/Beidou), and commercial services.
  • Anti-satellite tools—including HPM, lasers, co-orbital systems, and cyber capabilities—raise risks of escalation, debris cascades (Kessler syndrome), and collateral damage to civilian/commercial infrastructure.
  • Any use against constellations like Starlink could disrupt global internet, financial systems, emergency communications, and allied military operations.

Governments typically keep specifics classified to maintain strategic ambiguity, but reports like this highlight the accelerating arms race in directed-energy and counterspace technologies. Analysts warn that such systems could lower thresholds for conflict in space while complicating deterrence and arms control efforts.

Taiwan deploys U.S.-made missiles 10 km from China’s coastline as tensions spike

Taiwan deploys U.S.-made missiles 10 km from China’s coastline as tensions spike

Taiwan’s military has reportedly moved U.S.-made missile systems…including HIMARS rocket launchers and Harpoon land‑based anti-ship missiles…to forward positions on outlying islands such as Penghu and Dongyin, placing them approximately 10 kilometres from the Chinese mainland’s coast and well within the Taiwan Strait’s narrowest sector.

The deployments mark one of the most assertive shifts in Taiwan’s defense posture in years, amplifying the island’s precision-strike and coastal defense capabilities against the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Taiwan’s military is integrating these systems…part of accelerated U.S. arms deliveries that also include Harpoon coastal defense batteries and long-range missiles…into its broader asymmetric defense strategy.

Beijing’s response
China’s Ministry of National Defense issued stark warnings, saying any forward deployments and the notion of striking PLA targets across the strait would have “disastrous consequences” and accused Taipei’s authorities of provoking conflict. Beijing reiterated its opposition to foreign military involvement and demands for Taiwanese “independence”.

Regional implications
The escalation comes amid a period of elevated military activity across the Taiwan Strait, including large Chinese drills and heightened U.S. and allied support for Taipei.

Analysts say such deployments could increase the risks of miscalculation while deepening Washington’s strategic commitment under long-standing arms agreements.

Ukraine prepares historic vote on war with Russia

Ukraine prepares historic vote on war with Russia

VOLODYMYR Zelensky is reportedly preparing to announce a presidential election and a nationwide referendum on how to end the war with Russia.

According to emerging reports, the Ukrainian leader may unveil the plan on 24 February, marking the fourth anniversary of Russia’s 2022 invasion. The proposed vote would ask Ukrainians whether they support a negotiated peace settlement or continued military resistance against Vladimir Putin’s forces.

Ukraine has been operating under martial law since 2022, which suspended elections because millions of citizens are displaced abroad and large parts of the country remain active war zones. Any election or referendum would therefore require legal changes, security guarantees and arrangements for citizens living overseas and soldiers at the front lines to participate.

The move comes as fighting continues across eastern and southern Ukraine, while diplomatic pressure is growing internationally for a negotiated settlement. Some analysts view the vote as an attempt to renew Zelensky’s political mandate, while critics warn a wartime ballot could be extremely difficult to conduct safely.

Russia has warned Western nations against militarizing Greenland, calling such moves a direct threat to Moscow and promising military countermeasures if provocations continue. The Arctic island has become a geopolitical flashpoint since U.S. President Donald Trump expressed interest in acquiring it.

At the same time, Russia reiterated it will respect limits of the expired New START nuclear treaty, provided the U.S. does the same, highlighting ongoing concerns over nuclear arms and strategic stability.

Tensions in the Arctic are rising as nations increase strategic posturing, military presence, and resource ambitions, raising questions about regional security and nuclear diplomacy.

Chinese naval ships deployed near Iran amid rising tensions

Chinese naval ships deployed near Iran amid rising tensions

The Chinese Navy has deployed advanced warships…including a Type 055 destroyer, a Type 052D destroyer, and the Liaowang‑1 surveillance vessel…to the Gulf of Oman, near Iran, as tensions between the United States and Iran escalate.

The Type 055 destroyer is one of the world’s most capable surface combatants, equipped with long-range missiles, advanced radar, and anti-air warfare systems, while the Type 052D provides air defence and strike capabilities.

The Liaowang‑1 surveillance ship enhances intelligence, reconnaissance, and electronic monitoring of naval and air activity in the region.

China has significant economic interests in the Gulf, including protecting oil and gas supply routes, securing trade via the Maritime Silk Road, and supporting energy investments and infrastructure projects in Iran and neighboring countries. Analysts suggest China’s naval presence could also involve monitoring Western movements and potentially supporting Tehran with intelligence, affecting the regional balance of power.

The Gulf of Oman and surrounding waters are increasingly a geopolitical hotspot, where military deployments intersect with strategic economic and energy interests.

Jonathan Moyo has weighed in on the debate surrounding Zimbabwe’s proposed constitutional amendments, offering a historical and regional perspective on how presidents are elected

0

Former Cabinet Minister and political scientist Professor Jonathan Moyo has weighed in on the debate surrounding Zimbabwe’s proposed constitutional amendments, offering a historical and regional perspective on how presidents are elected.

In a recent statement titled “Presidential Election Titbits,” Prof. Moyo broke down complex electoral history to explain that direct voting for a president is not the only system Zimbabwe has known, nor is it the only system used in the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

A Look Back at Zimbabwe’s History

Prof. Moyo reminded the public that for the first decade of Zimbabwe’s independence—between 1980 and 1990—the head of the executive was not directly elected by the public.

He clarified that the system of directly voting for a President was only introduced in 1990. This change came about through Constitutional Amendment No. 7 (Act 23 of 1987), which officially inaugurated the “Executive Presidency” system currently in use. His point highlights that the proposed shift away from direct elections would, in some ways, mirror the country’s earlier governance structure.

The Angolan Model

Expanding his analysis to the broader region, Prof. Moyo cited Angola as a prime example of a SADC nation that uses an indirect election system.

He explained that under Angola’s 2010 Constitution, voters do not cast a ballot for a president. Instead, they elect members of the National Assembly (Parliament). The individual who sits at the top of the candidate list for the political party that wins the most parliamentary seats automatically becomes the President.

Moyo noted that the last time Angola held a direct presidential election was in 1992, suggesting that the parliamentary system proposed for Zimbabwe is already a standard practice elsewhere in the region. – Zimbo LIVE Harare

TONSE WILL USE A REGISTERED PARTY IN AUGUST POLLS – MUNDUBILE

TONSE WILL USE A REGISTERED PARTY IN AUGUST POLLS – MUNDUBILE

TONSE Alliance faction president Brian Mundubile says the alliance will use a special purpose vehicle to contest the 2026 general election.

On Sunday, Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro said all political alliances were supposed to register with the Registrar of Societies if they wanted to contest in an election.

Commenting on the remarks in an interview, Tuesday, Mundubile said the alliance would campaign as Tonse Alliance but would use a registered political party in the general elections.

“We take note of that as Tonse Alliance, we take note of that. In our case, and our resolve is that the alliance will use a special purpose vehicle, which is a registered political party, to take part in elections. So, the decision that we made previously regarding our future is to make the Tonse Alliance safe. Of course, we will campaign as an alliance, but when it comes to fielding a candidate, we will field a candidate as a special purpose vehicle,” he said.

When asked if they had already chosen a political party, Mundubile responded in the negative, adding that the council of leaders would soon meet to discuss the selection of the party.

“No, that is yet to come. The council of leaders will soon sit to look at the special purpose vehicles within the alliance, and then one of them will be chosen to be the special purpose vehicle,” Mundubile said.

Commenting on Kasaro’s remarks that candidates must only use campaign materials and symbols of the party under which they have filed nominations, Mundubile argued that there was no law restricting candidates.

“Well, there is no law that would stop you because, let us take for instance, in certain areas, due to high poverty levels, the same regalia they were given by MMD during RB’s time, those are the only clothes they have to wear. So, if they showed up at the rally with that, what offence are they committing? So, really, there is no law that would stop people from wearing what they like while campaigning for other candidates.

We know the intention. The intention is that our friends in the UPND actually have sleepless nights over PF. So, they know that PF is a force to reckon with. They know that the late president Lungu’s images resonate very well with the people. So, in trying to frustrate that, they give out those guidelines,” said Mundubile.

“So, I think what most parties have done, they simply ignore ECZ on that, because there is really no law that they have to punish political parties. In any case, who do you punish? If people of their own, 2,000 people show up with t-shirts of their choice bearing another political party but supporting a candidate who is on stage, who are you going to punish at that stage?”

IS TONSE ALLIANCE EXPERIENCING BIRTH PANGS OR SHAPING UP?- Kellys Kaunda

IS TONSE ALLIANCE EXPERIENCING BIRTH PANGS OR SHAPING UP?

By Kellys Kaunda

Given the incredible difficulties surrounding the opposition in Zambia, it’s understandable that the Brian Mundubile-led alliance should face challenges of legitimacy.

The circumstances surrounding it I liken to a difficult pregnancy that naturally leads to doubts regarding the birth of the baby.

Like me, you have heard names not yet public being associated with the alliance.

But we have seen some names and faces associated with it in public.

Some are new while others are old hands in politics like Davies Mwila.

The picture is emerging but not yet clear. When I watched a clip of Davies Mwila calling on the alliance members to put their efforts together and cement their relations if they are to grab back power, I sensed determination and resilience.

It’s one of the motivational speeches where you are told that you are not defined by your failures but by what you do about them.

He was addressing PF members who lost power in 2021 not to remain in a position of the defeated but rise like a boxer determined to win.

If there is something important at stake in any competition, you are likely to give it all you can.

Davies Mwila alluded to it when he referred to Ambassador Mwamba who is currently in the US fearing incarceration arising from his political activities here at home.

If Tonse Alliance doesn’t win this election, Mwila said Ambassador Mwamba and other PF members currently in jail will remain where they are.

When you think about your beloved ones remaining in jail for another five years or remaining in exile for a similar amount of time, you will spare no resource to fight the UPND government at the forthcoming election.

It becomes personal and a question of survival. So, a lot is riding on this election.

But whatever the motivation, for the sake of democracy, the rise of a strong opposition to stand against UPND is good for Zambia.

It legitimizes the country’s electoral process and confirms the popularity of those that emerge victorious.

TELL YOUR BOSS THAT HIS TIME TO ACCOUNT WILL COME…Sishuwa Sishuwa tells off one of HH’s presidential aides on X

TELL YOUR BOSS THAT HIS TIME TO ACCOUNT WILL COME…Sishuwa Sishuwa tells off one of HH’s presidential aides on X.

Dr Sishuwa writes:

Hello Chris Haambote!

I accept your lack of courage to use your real identity on X and your official designation as one of President Hichilema’s miscellaneous aides at State House, majority of whom are Tongas like you. What I do not accept is your continued display of incapacity to think more, which consequently places a burden on me to educate you even on basic stuff. The truth is that your boss messed up a good case and If Dalitso appeals against that ruling, he may easily get a stay of execution pending determination of the actual appeal, given Court of Appeal Justice Kelvin Muzenga’s ruling in the case of Pittscon Zambia Limited and 7 Others v the Anti Corruption Commission last June.

Dalitso gave an explanation for the source of his wealth: that it was a gift from his father. Legally speaking, all that he needed to provide is a ‘reasonable’ answer, not the truth. Why did you and your boss and your UPND friends at the ACC fail to summon Edgar Lungu to testify? Is it because you knew that you would lose the case because all that Lungu needed to say was that whatever he gave Dalitso were gifts received from his own friends? And since there is a fundamental lapse in the ACC Act in relation to gifts received by the president, your case would have instantly collapsed.

I fully understand the political motives behind the pursuit of Dalitso and other members of the Lungu family, but do not pretend even for a minute that you and your boss are outraged by corruption. If your boss was serious about fighting corruption, he would have addressed the loopholes in the law that enabled Lungu to give such gifts to his family without consequence. If your boss was serious about fighting corruption, he would have dismantled rather than inheriting or perfecting the networks of corruption left behind by Lungu and the PF. If your boss was serious about fighting corruption, he would have…

Your boss does not really care about fighting corruption, perhaps because he himself is a possible crook, unless those on the receiving end are political opponents or members of other ethnic-language groups. For instance, Hibeene Mwiinga – who served as Lungu’s economic adviser – his wife and sons were, like Dalitso, dragged to court on charges of being in possession of unexplained wealth worth K41 million. When the court dubiously acquitted them on all 21 counts, there was not a single protest from you and your boss. Unless I missed it, you have not even appealed against that ruling. Today, you want to come here and pretend that you and your boss are outraged by Dalitso’s many cars? Please cut me some slack.

Tell your boss that we know what is going on and time to account, time for reckoning, will come. The problem with politicians like your boss is that they do not learn from history. They usually think they are smarter than those who came before them – be it in relation to putting in place a plan to rig the elections or covering their tracks of corruption –until they are not. Let time; things change. Many things make themselves clear in the fullness of time.

KALABA IS BETTER PLACED TO BECOME THE NEXT PRESIDENT- MUNTHALI

KALABA IS BETTER PLACED TO BECOME THE NEXT PRESIDENT- MUNTHALI

…says Zambians are looking for a leader with experience and skills to solve problems.

MUFULIRA, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2026

CITIZENS First National Chairlady Faith Munthali says party president Harry Kalaba is better placed to lead the country after the August 13th 2026 General Elections.

Speaking when she featured on Mafken radio in Mufulira this morning Mrs. Munthali said Zambians are looking forward to having a next President who will perform better than the incumbent.

She said the CF leader has experience and knows what governance is all about.

“President Harry Kalaba knows what governance is all about, he knows how it feels to fail and how to find solutions to problems. He has been exposed to the governance systems having held different ministerial positions in the past,”

And Mrs. Munthali said the preoccupation of the CF party is to tell Zambians how they are going to lead the country according their its sound policies.

She said  inorder to preside over the affairs of the country better, CF is learning from the mistakes that are being made by the ruling UPND.

“CF is not sitting and laughing at the UPND, but we are learning from their mistakes and also looking at how we are we can govern better. What we are also telling ourselves, is that we need to tell Zambians how we are going lead them according to our policies, ” she said.

Meanwhile the National Chairlady said CF is ready to work with any political party or alliances provided the put their houses in order.

She said CF will not be drawn into taking sides in the divisions currently in PF and Tonse Alliance as this will fuel more problems.

” We are willing to work with any any political party or Alliance provided their policies aligns with ours. When we were in UKA we realized that lack of sound policies could not hold the Alliance together and so we are taking a day at a time and we are looking at the policies that the current alliances have and what criteria they are using to choose presidential candidates. In terms of working with PF, we want them to mend their cracks because there are are alot of factions within the party and as CF we will not take sides because that will fuel more problems, ” Mrs. Munthali said.

ARCHBISHOP OF KASAMA CALLS ON PF TO UNITE, ELECT A LEADER

ARCHBISHOP OF KASAMA CALLS ON PF TO UNITE, ELECT A LEADER

Archbishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kasama, the Most Reverend Ignatius Chama, has called on the opposition Patriotic Front (PF) to put its house in order by uniting and electing a leader.

Speaking during a meeting with PF presidential candidate Makebi Zulu in Kasama, Archbishop Chama stressed that time was not on the side of the former ruling party.
“Time is not on your side. The Patriotic Front must put its house in order by uniting and electing a substantive leader,” Archbishop Chama said.

He urged the party to demonstrate credibility as a strong opposition by resolving its internal differences and avoiding divisions that risk pulling members in different directions.

“You cannot effectively serve as a credible opposition when you are divided. Resolve your differences and avoid divisions that may weaken the party,” he advised.

The Archbishop emphasized that unity and clear leadership are essential for the PF to effectively play its role in Zambia’s democratic space.

“Unity and clear leadership are essential if the PF is to meaningfully contribute to Zambia’s democratic space,” he added.

In response, PF presidential candidate Makebi Zulu assured the Archbishop that the party was committed to electing a leader before the end of the month.

“Your Grace, I wish to assure you that the Patriotic Front is committed to electing a substantive leader before the end of this month,” Mr. Zulu said.

Mr. Zulu acknowledged that the PF has been facing internal and external influences from individuals allegedly seeking to weaken and destabilize the party.

“We are aware of external influences from certain individuals who are allegedly seeking to weaken and destabilize the party, but we remain focused,” he stated.

Mr Zulu expressed confidence that the PF would overcome its challenges and emerge as a united force under one leader.

“The Patriotic Front will overcome its current challenges and emerge stronger and united under one leader,” he said.

He further stated that he believes he is well-positioned to become the unifying leader of the party and pledged to steer the PF towards renewed strength and purpose.

“I have faith and believe that I am well-positioned to unify the party and steer it toward renewed strength and purpose, with a clear vision of leading Zambians toward a better future,” Mr. Zulu said.

ECZ IS PROPOSING TO REMOVE SECURITY FEATURES FROM THE BALLOT PAPERS

ECZ IS PROPOSING TO REMOVE SECURITY FEATURES FROM THE BALLOT PAPERS

In the Electoral Process Bill, the Electoral Commission of Zambia seeks to remove security features from the ballot papers.

The targeted features are;
1. Ballot Stamp (to prevent counterfeit ballots).

2. Watermark

This is contained in the Electoral Process Bill due for am1endment in this year’s legislative session..

WHAT ARE THESE FEATURES?

The official mark in elections refers to two distinct elements: the security stamp on the ballot paper and the specific way a voter marks their choice.

1. The Security “Official Mark” (Ballot Stamp)
The official mark is a security feature, typically a date stamp or a unique Commission stamp, that must be placed on the back of every ballot paper by a polling official before it is issued to a voter.
Purpose: It authenticates that the ballot was legitimately issued by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) and prevents the use of counterfeit ballots.

Consequence of Absence: Any ballot paper that does not bear this official mark is considered invalid and will be rejected during the counting process.2. The Voter’s Mark
While the security stamp is officially called the “official mark” in legal contexts, the term is also used to describe the correct way a citizen should mark their ballot.

The Mark: The standard official mark for a voter is an “X”.

Placement: The “X” must be placed in the empty box next to the candidate or party symbol of the voter’s choice.

Invalid Marks: Voters are strictly advised not to write their names, signatures, or phone numbers on the ballot, as this will lead to the ballot being rejected to preserve the secrecy of the vote.

CHANGALA WARNS AGAINST TRIBAL POLITICS AS PF DISPUTES GROW

🟦 CHANGALA WARNS AGAINST TRIBAL POLITICS AS PF DISPUTES GROW

Political activist Breben Changala has issued a strong caution against tribal narratives shaping Zambia’s political conversation, arguing that such rhetoric risks undermining national unity. His remarks arrive at a moment when internal tensions within the Patriotic Front continue to dominate headlines.

Changala told supporters that leaders must focus on policies that improve livelihoods rather than identity-based messaging. He said Zambia’s democratic history shows that voters respond best to inclusive leadership, adding that prolonged disputes within opposition ranks could weaken confidence among grassroots supporters. His position has resonated with civic voices who believe political competition should remain centred on national development priorities.

Meanwhile, Patriotic Front deputy secretary general Celestine Mukandila has taken a firm stance against what he describes as attempts to manipulate party leadership structures. Speaking during a mobilisation meeting, he urged members to defend internal processes and resist any efforts to buy influence. Mukandila said discipline remains critical as the party prepares for future political contests.

The exchange between the two figures reflects broader tensions shaping the opposition landscape. Supporters remain divided over how the party should rebuild momentum, while critics warn that continued infighting may alienate voters seeking a clear alternative vision.

Government spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa has responded by stressing that national governance remains focused on development goals rather than opposition disputes.

For many observers, the situation highlights the challenges facing parties undergoing transition. Changala’s emphasis on unity and Mukandila’s call for organisational vigilance illustrate competing strategies that could determine the direction of opposition politics in the months ahead.

RECENT EXPULSIONS OF PF MEMBERS ARE NULL AND VOID – CHITEME

PF faction Member of the Central Committee Alexander Chiteme says all recent suspensions and expulsions of PF members are null and void, owing to the injunction by the Kabwe High Court.

Earlier this month, the Given Lubinda-led PF faction held a conference and expelled several members, including Stephen Kampyongo, Francis Kapyanga, Brian Mundubile, Mutotwe Kafwaya, Davies Chisopa, Lukas Simumba and Japhen Mwakalombe, for attending the Tonse Alliance faction elections.

Speaking when PF leaders met the PF Kitwe District leadership, Chiteme said the Patriotic Front made a mistake by reopening nominations for the party’s presidential elections.

He urged party members not to be afraid of supporting an aspiring presidential candidate of their choice.

“We are also still PF members. When the injunction was placed in Kabwe, it removed the locus standi for PF to act in any manner. So I’ll urge you that all the suspensions, all the expulsions that were done before that day are null and void. No one is going to come here in the name of PF to suspend [or] discipline anyone. The way we were in PF, that’s the way we still are, and we’re not choosing a candidate out of the PF. Brian Mundubile is still PF, ba SG [apparent reference to Davies Mwila] is still PF, and I am still MCC for PF. The issue that we unlocked in the PF was the presidential nominations. We agreed inside the party that we should have elections, and the people who had the bravery to stand when our beloved president ECL was alive, they pushed in their nominations,” said Chiteme.

“I should regret that the first mistake we made was to reopen the nominations. We should have stuck with the first nominations that we had. Simple and straightforward. If our mouths or anything will give us problems, we’re welcome to those problems. But we’re not going to put on brakes, we’re still going to move. Remember, PF is a movement, and the movement is going to be strong. Not one umbrella, but under the individuals that were put forward. So we shouldn’t be afraid that I am supporting Kambwili, Given Lubinda, Brian or Makebi. It is your constitutional right”.

Meanwhile, PF faction Kitwe District Chairman Evaristo Chilufya said the Kitwe District leadership was rallying behind Brian Mundubile as president.

“We’ve come from far for us not to know where we’re going. All of us you’ve seen here are rallying behind BM8. You can’t hold our mouths. We’re not going backwards. You should go and tell the president that Kitwe members are not going back. We will be listening and doing what you leaders tell us. From today until August 13th, count us and others that in Kitwe, constituencies, wards have resolved to rally behind BM8,” said Chilufya in Bemba.

The meeting was attended by various PF leaders, including Davies Mwila.

ECZ’S PLAN TO REMOVE OFFICIAL MARK FROM THE BALLOT PAPERS ILL ADVISED – CF

ECZ’S PLAN TO REMOVE OFFICIAL MARK FROM THE BALLOT PAPERS ILL ADVISED – CF

… as party Spokesperson Dalitso Tembo says the move risks raising unnecessary suspicion, tension, and mistrust among citizens and political stakeholders.

LUSAKA, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2026 [SMART EAGLES]

The Citizens First party  (CF)  says it has noted with serious concern reports regarding the announced plans by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to remove the official mark from ballot papers in the 2026 General Elections.

CF Spokesperson Dalitso Tembo has told Smart Eagles in a statement that the opposition party strongly opposes any move that weakens electoral safeguards or undermines public confidence in the electoral process.

She said the official mark on ballot papers has, over the years, served as a critical security and verification feature designed to protect the integrity of the vote and prevent electoral malpractice.

“At a time when Zambia requires enhanced transparency, stronger electoral security, and greater stakeholder confidence, any decision to remove such a safeguard is ill-advised and risks raising unnecessary suspicion, tension, and mistrust among citizens and political stakeholders,” she states.

Ms. Tembo said Citizens First firmly believes that electoral reforms must strengthen not dilute the credibility of elections.

She said any changes to ballot paper design or electoral procedures must be anchored in law, subjected to broad stakeholder consultation, and Clearly justified in the public interest.

” We therefore call upon the ECZ to:
Immediately clarify its position on this matter,
Engage political parties and other stakeholders transparently, and refrain from implementing changes that may compromise the perceived and actual integrity of the electoral process,” she said.

“The Citizens First  remains committed to defending democracy, the sanctity of the vote, and the will of the Zambian people. We will continue to speak out against any actions that threaten free, fair, and credible elections ahead of 2026.” Ms. Ms. Tembo said.

STOP MISLEADING THE NATION: DR V J MWANGA MUST TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT THE LUNGU FUNERAL IMPASSE- Thandiwe Ketiš Ngoma

STOP MISLEADING THE NATION: DR V J MWANGA MUST TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT THE LUNGU FUNERAL IMPASSE

By Thandiwe Ketiš Ngoma

With due respect, Dr V J Mwanga should stop misleading the masses in the name of massaging President Hakainde Hichilema’s ego. During a recent interview, he chose to blame the Lungu family and accuse them of imposing unfair conditions regarding the funeral of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu. Such assertions are not only inaccurate but deeply unfair to a grieving family that has consistently maintained a clear and principled position.

Let us set the record straight.

The Lungu family did not refuse a state funeral. This must be stated without ambiguity. The family has not rejected the Government’s offer to accord former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu a state funeral. What they have done is reiterate, in clear and respectful terms, the known and publicly documented wishes of the late former Head of State.

It is already in the public domain that President Edgar Chagwa Lungu ceased to be a beneficiary of presidential privileges the moment he returned to active politics. At that point, he reverted to being a private citizen under the law. His benefits were withdrawn, and he thereafter lived as an ordinary citizen of Zambia. He sought medical treatment in South Africa not as a state-supported former Head of State, but as a private individual.

More importantly, President Lungu himself made his wishes known. He indicated that, in the event of his death, he desired to be buried as a private citizen. However, he also made it clear that, should the Government choose—out of grace and goodwill—to accord him a state funeral, there was one condition: his successor, President Hakainde Hichilema, should neither preside over the funeral nor be anywhere near his remains.

These wishes were not communicated in secrecy or ambiguity. They were expressed clearly and have since been shared in the public domain by the family. The family’s current position is therefore not an act of defiance against the State, nor is it a rejection of national honour. It is simply a request that the final wishes of their loved one be respected.

Dr Mwanga’s attempt to portray this as the family imposing unreasonable terms or rejecting a state funeral is misleading. It distorts the truth and inflames public sentiment at a time when empathy, restraint, and honesty are most needed. The issue at hand is not whether the former President deserves a state funeral—many agree that he does. The issue is whether the clearly expressed wishes of the deceased should be honoured.

Respecting those wishes does not diminish the dignity of the presidency or the State. A state funeral is defined by the honours, protocol, logistical support, security arrangements, and national recognition accorded by the Government. It is not defined solely by the physical presence of the sitting President. Delegation in such matters is lawful, customary, and widely practised across democracies, particularly where circumstances call for sensitivity and respect for the bereaved family.

Insisting on personal involvement in the face of explicit objections risks deepening national division and prolonging the pain of a bereaved family. Compassionate leadership requires flexibility, humility, and the wisdom to place human dignity above personal or political considerations.

The Lungu family has been consistent from the beginning. They have not refused the state funeral. They have merely asked that the wishes of President Edgar Chagwa Lungu be respected.

However, Dr Mwanga must now be directly challenged. Why has he decided to give a deaf ear to the clearly expressed wishes of the deceased? He has repeatedly claimed that he speaks truth to power. If that is indeed the case, why can he not tell President Hakainde Hichilema to stay away from the funeral and from the remains of Edgar Chagwa Lungu? That is the only sure and honourable way of respecting the late President and ensuring he receives a dignified send-off in accordance with his own wishes.

Speaking truth to power cannot be selective. It cannot be directed only at those without authority while sparing those who hold power. True courage requires consistency.

Zambians are therefore entitled to ask: Is Dr Mwanga failing to speak this truth because of proximity to power? Is he reluctant to advise the President accordingly because he benefits from alignment with his tribal or political leadership?

These questions arise not from malice but from the glaring contradiction between his claim of moral courage and his silence on the one action that would immediately resolve this impasse and restore dignity to the funeral arrangements.

This moment calls for honesty in public discourse and responsibility from those who shape public opinion. Dr Mwanga and others must refrain from advancing narratives that mislead the nation and instead help promote truth, empathy, and national unity.

Misleading narratives will not bring closure. Respect, compassion, and adherence to the wishes of the deceased will.

Let truth guide our conversations.
Let compassion guide our actions.
And above all, let Edgar Chagwa Lungu be laid to rest in dignity and peace.

CHIKOTE ORDERS ZESCO, ERB TO PROBE RAPID DEPLETION OF ELECTRICITY UNITS

CHIKOTE ORDERS ZESCO, ERB TO PROBE RAPID DEPLETION OF ELECTRICITY UNITS

ENERGY Minister Makozo Chikote has directed Zesco and the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) to investigate the ongoing rapid depletion of electricity units and submit a report by March 16, 2026.

Since December last year, after load shedding hours were reduced and most households began receiving 24-hour power supply, there has been a public outcry that electricity units are depleting faster than usual.

Delivering a ministerial statement in the National Assembly yesterday, Chikote assured the nation that once the investigations and review are concluded, the findings will be shared with the general public.

“We ask Zambians to remain patient while the inquiry is underway. As soon as the report is ready, it will be released for public viewing,” he stated.

However, he noted that the restoration of 24-hour electricity supply may be one of the causes of the rapid depletion of units and emphasised that electricity tariffs have not been increased.

“Following the expiry of the emergency tariffs on October 31, 2025, the ERB reinstated the Multi-Year Tariff Framework, which became effective on November 1, 2025. Under this framework, electricity tariffs are categorised into bands ranging from R1 to R4,” he explained.

“I want to emphasise that ZESCO has not increased electricity tariffs. The restoration of 24-hour electricity supply may have led to higher consumption by consumers, which can make units appear to be finishing faster.”

Meanwhile, Chikote explained that the country’s electricity system currently relies on 1,635 MW of locally produced power, supported by 511 MW of imports, to meet the national demand of 2,400 MW.

He said recent rainfall has helped maintain water levels in major reservoirs, enabling ZESCO to generate approximately 400 MW from the Kariba North Bank Power Station.

He added that planned solar and thermal projects set for 2026 will further improve electricity availability, supporting continuous, round-the-clock supply for homes and businesses.

PF USING AI TO CREATE A FALSE NARRATIVE THAT THE PRESIDENT IS ILL

PF USING AI TO CREATE A FALSE NARRATIVE THAT THE PRESIDENT IS ILL
There has been propaganda after propaganda from a faction of the PF camp alleging that President Hakainde Hichilema is unwell, even going to the extent of circulating AI-generated and manipulated images.

This appears to be an attempt to mislead the public into believing that President HH is not fit to contest a second term.
However, the truth is that the President is in good health, as evidenced by his active participation and address at the Mining Indaba in South Africa (RSA).

Any reasonable and clear-minded individual would question the extent to which some are willing to go—resorting to AI-generated images—when the President is visibly healthy and fully capable of delivering speeches and executing his duties.

CHAKULYA SLAMS UPND SELF-PRAISE, SAYS ZAMBIANS MUST JUDGE GOVERNMENT PERFORMANCE

CHAKULYA SLAMS UPND SELF-PRAISE, SAYS ZAMBIANS MUST JUDGE GOVERNMENT PERFORMANCE

ASPIRING Luanshya mayoral candidate Mulenga Chakulya has criticised the ruling United Party for National Development’s level of self-praise as unacceptable, insisting that Zambians themselves must judge government performance.

Mr. Chakulya was responding to remarks by Government Chief Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa during a HotFM interview on February 10th, 2026, in which he stated the UPND and President Hakainde Hichilema are poised to win the August 13th general elections because they have performed according to Zambian people’s expectations.

However, Mr. Chakulya argues this assertion does not reflect the lived reality of many ordinary citizens. While he acknowledges it’s normal for governing parties to express confidence ahead of elections, he maintains that self-praise does not automatically translate into public satisfaction.

He points out that many Zambians continue grappling with high cost of living, economic pressures, and unmet expectations. Mr. Chakulya cites the increase in mealie meal prices from the promised K50 to around K350 per 25-kilogram bag as clear evidence the New Dawn Administration has failed to fulfill key campaign promises.

He maintains only the Zambian people can ultimately determine whether the government has delivered on its commitments.

PFF CLARIFIES ELIGIBILITY OF FORMER INMATES AND PARDONED PERSONS TO CONTEST PUBLIC OFFICE.

PFF CLARIFIES ELIGIBILITY OF FORMER INMATES AND PARDONED PERSONS TO CONTEST PUBLIC OFFICE.

The Prisoners’ Future Foundation has clarified that formerly incarcerated persons, including those granted presidential pardons, are not permanently barred from contesting for public office in Zambia.

Speaking in Kabwe, PFF Executive Director Geoffrey Mayamba said the Constitution of Zambia clearly distinguishes between individuals currently serving prison sentences and those who have completed their sentences, either in full or through a lawful presidential pardon.

Mr. Mayamba explained that under Articles 100 and 70 of the Constitution, a person serving a sentence of imprisonment is disqualified from contesting for the offices of President or Member of Parliament. Additionally, anyone who has served a prison term of at least three years within the immediate past five years is also disqualified. However, he emphasized that this restriction is time-bound and does not amount to a lifetime ban.

Mr. Mayamba further stated that a presidential pardon, granted under Article 97, legally brings a sentence to an end and is recognized in calculating the eligibility period. The Foundation says similar principles apply to local government positions, where only those currently serving sentences are disqualified.

PFF has since called on political players, the media, and the public to rely on the law and avoid stigma, stressing that matters of eligibility ultimately rest with the courts.

BISHOP JOHN GENERAL SEEKS ACQUITTAL IN RAPE CASE

BISHOP JOHN GENERAL SEEKS ACQUITTAL IN RAPE CASE

MIRACLE Impact Church overseer Bishop John Nundwe, popularly known as John General, has asked the court to acquit him, arguing that the prosecution has failed to present sufficient evidence to warrant him being placed on his defence.

The cleric is charged with rape, contrary to Sections 132 and 133 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

The complainant is a church member who had allegedly sought prayers from him over childlessness.

Through his defence team, Bishop Nundwe has submitted that the State’s case contains significant gaps and is largely based on hearsay evidence.

He has argued that scene-of-crime officers confirmed the scene was contaminated and did not recover any exhibits linking him to the alleged offence.

He further contended that there is no evidence proving the alleged sexual act, penetration, or lack of consent, citing the absence of direct witnesses, forensic support, and what he described as reliance on speculation.

It is alleged that on November 22, 2023, between 13:00 and 14:00 hours, in Kahale area of Lusaka, the clergyman had unlawful carnal knowledge of a married woman at her residence.

The court heard that the woman’s husband allegedly found them at the house, but the accused reportedly escaped by jumping over a wall fence.

The court is yet to rule on whether Bishop Nundwe will be placed on his defence.

A man of God decided to surprise his church members by showing them a rare scene involving his conversation with God.

Prophet David Owuor, a pastor from Kenya, shocked the members in his church by showing them his WhatsApp chats with God

In the alleged conversation, God was giving the prophet instructions and he was asking how best to deliver them.

At one point he begged God for rains in Kenya and God replied that he will send rains after the people have repented.

This is not the first time Prophet Owuor has been in the news for absurd or unusual spiritual encounters.

The prophet had previously come under backlash after claiming he helped God create during creation.

Nigeria ranked highest consumers of dog meat in Africa and third in the world

Nigeria has been named is among the world’s top consumers of dog meat, according to a BBC visit to the largest dog market to explore the trade

Nigeria is widely reported to be the third-highest consumer of dog meat in the world, behind South Korea and Vietnam, according to data from the Dog-Friendly Country Index

In Nigeria, dog meat is commonly known as “404” and is consumed in various regions, particularly in parts of the south and middle belt.

Cultural traditions, taste preferences and socio-economic reasons contribute to the ongoing demand for dog meat in the country.

BBC’s Ayuba Iliya recently visited Nigeria’s biggest dog market to report on this thriving trade.

During the visit, he met dog sellers, butchers and customers to understand how the market operates and why the demand persists.

The market is bustling with activity, with dogs being brought from different states and slaughtered for sale.

In some areas, dog meat is prepared in local styles such as pepper soup or roasted on skewers, drawing regular customers who consider it part of their culinary tradition.

In communities like Plateau State, Akwa Ibom and Cross River, the trade has deep cultural roots.

Some consumers associate dog meat with special occasions, traditional beliefs or perceived health benefits.

According to one Gideon Goyoma, the Chairman for Dog Dealers Association, consuming dog meat will protect you from herb attack/ poisoning.

He also added that certain organs like the heart and the liver of a dog can be used for rituals like charming women.

However, the trade also raises public health concerns, especially over risks of rabies and other diseases, and critics point to the lack of regulation in many markets.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu Begs Trump To Order More Strikes Because The Christmas Day B%mbing was A Blessing

Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu, has urged the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, to order the American army to send some bombs to Nigeria any time soon.

On Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, the Northern part of Nigeria was blasted by the US Army after constant warnings from Donald Trump.

Their main target was the Boko Haram, a terrorist group that has been tormenting the lives of Christians in Nigeria.

Christians in Islamic-dominated states in Nigeria have been persecuted on several occasions because of their conviction for the last 2 decades.

The recent attack in 2025 caught global attention, where President Trump warned Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to clamp down on banditry before he steps in.

Tinubu failed to do so, and Trump ordered his army to send a deadly weapon to Northern Nigeria, where the terror group is based.

This action from the American President was to curb the canker, but some Africans saw it as disrespectful to interfere in the affairs of a sovereign state instead of providing support behind closed doors.

After two months, the First Lady of Nigeria, Remi Tinubu, graced a Christian event in America, where Donald Trump introduced her.

Remi Tinubu has made a controversial statement after the events, and it has to do with the terrorism in northern Nigeria.

According to the First Lady, what the US Army did on Christmas Day following the order of President Trump was a blessing in disguise.

She went ahead to plead with Donald Trump to send more strikes to Nigeria.

Nigerian Preacher Says Christians Who Participate in Valentine’s Day Won’t Go To Heaven

The most controversial street preacher in Nigeria has once again dropped a bombshell about the forthcoming Valentine’s Day.

According to the street preacher in Nigeria, any Christian who celebrates Valentine’s Day has cancelled their name from the list of believers who would enter heaven because that is a heinous sin in the sight of the Lord.

February 14 is a day set aside for people to show love to their loved ones.Romance

The Month of February is called the month of love because of Valentine, and for that matter, most people decide to wear red and white most often.

Lovers show love to each other, children show love to their parents, and the rich also spread love by sharing with the needy.

The most famous gift during Valentine’s Day is chocolate, and flowers come second.

Valentine’s Day was celebrated to honor a martyr called Valentine(Feast of Saint Valentine) on February 14 in the 8th century, but later transitioned to be about a romantic celebration after people started showing love through gifts and other kind gestures in the 14th and 15th centuries.

He said Christians should avoid celebrating this day because it will not make it to Heaven after death. After all, they participated in some evil.
