THE HH GATE: CHIPATA AIRPORT STANDARDS RAISED

THE HH GATE: CHIPATA AIRPORT STANDARDS RAISED

It is good to see that the Chipata airport runway standards and infrastructure have been raised even higher to accommodate local big flights after being in a deplorable state for many years.

This is the gate and airport where then opposition leader and now President Hakainde Hichilema was detained for hours by the PF administration with a directive that Hakainde Hichilema was not allowed to get into Chipata without clearance from the PF.

Clearly, out of some bad situation, good things come.

Job well done HH and UPND and the Zambians who voted for change and refused to see a fellow Zambian being detained at a local airport and stopped from entering a part of Zambia.

HAIMBE ANNOUNCES NEARLY \$500 MILLION INVESTMENT DEAL FOLLOWING PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S VISIT TO EGYPT

HAIMBE ANNOUNCES NEARLY \$500 MILLION INVESTMENT DEAL FOLLOWING PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S VISIT TO EGYPT

By Dennis Sikazwe Jr

Zambia continues to rise on the global stage, with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mulambo Haimbe SC, MP, revealing that President Hakainde Hichilema’s recent State Visit to Egypt has attracted investment pledges worth close to 500 million US dollars. The pledges focus on energy, agriculture, and infrastructure development.

Speaking in Parliament, Haimbe explained that the visit, which took place from 23rd to 25th February 2025 at the invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, was a major step toward strengthening Zambia’s international partnerships and delivering tangible benefits to the people.

One of the biggest highlights from the visit is the plan to set up two 100 megawatt solar plants in Kafue and Mongu by 2026, in partnership with Toyota Tsusho and Elsewedy Electric. The investment package will also support the expansion of the ZESCO–Elsewedy project to locally produce transformers and prepaid meters, with at least 40 percent of contracts going to Zambian small businesses. Arab Contractors will also take part in road and bridge infrastructure, with a focus on transferring technology and building local skills.

During the Zambia-Egypt Business Forum, further agreements were signed to boost trade routes under the Lobito Corridor and beyond, aimed at improving regional connectivity and economic growth.

In agriculture and animal health, Zambia and Egypt agreed to work together in the production of vaccines for diseases like FMD and anthrax. Joint research is set to begin in early 2026. Egypt also committed to supporting Zambia’s smart farming ambitions through training in biotechnology, irrigation, and climate-resilient practices. Scholarships and training opportunities for at least 50 Zambians over the next three years were also secured.

Water development was another major area of discussion. Zambia and Egypt explored cooperation in water harvesting, recycling, desalination, and irrigation systems. An agreement on water cooperation is expected to be signed by the end of 2025, helping Zambia meet its clean water and sanitation targets.

The visit also brought stronger political and diplomatic ties. President Hichilema and President el-Sisi committed to working more closely on African priorities such as climate financing, poverty reduction, and the restructuring of global debt systems. The two leaders also agreed to hold regular political consultations through their respective foreign ministries.

Five memoranda of understanding were signed during the visit, covering areas such as agriculture, livestock development, urban planning, and the creation of structured political dialogue between the two countries.

According to Haimbe, the visit reflects Zambia’s strong commitment to building smart partnerships that bring real development home. From energy to infrastructure, agriculture to water, the outcomes of the trip are a clear sign that Zambia is open for business and the world is responding.

His leadership qualities saw him appointed to various ministerial portfolios in the MMD government under President Frederick Chiluba, including:

• Deputy Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry

NAMPUNDWE AND BLUE LAGOON ROAD BEING UPGRADED TO BITUMINOUS ROAD FOR 1 BILLION KWACHA

NAMPUNDWE AND BLUE LAGOON ROAD BEING UPGRADED TO BITUMINOUS ROAD FOR 1 BILLION KWACHA
By Shalala Oliver Sepiso

The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction to bituminous standard of the 96KM Blue Lagoon Road from Farmers Junction (on the Lusaka-Mumbwa Road) to Muchabi Primary and Secondary School into the National Park will be held tomorrow. Minister of Infrastructure and Urban development, Hon. Charles Milupi, will officiate at this event, which I will personally attend as a proud Mumbwa-Mumbwa and proud praise-singer as we people of Shakumbila say “Kwenyu!” ✅

Government has allocated K1.1 billion for upgrading the Farmers Junction to Blue Lagoon gravel road to bituminous standard in Shibuyunji and Mumbwa districts in Central Province. The tender for the Construction of upgrading to Bitumious standard of approximately 98 km of the Blue Lagoon Road, D534 from farmers turnoff on Mumbwa M9 Road to Muchabi Secondary and Muchabi Primary schools – 7km into the Blue Lagoon National Park in Central Province of Zambia was issued by the Road Development Agency recently. It was awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and KAAZ Concrete Solutions Ltd.

Before that, in June 2022, Minister of Infrastructure and Urban development (Charles Milupi), Member of Parliament for Nangoma (Collins Njovu), Member of Parliament for Mumbwa (Credo Nanjuwa) and Member of Parliament for Mwembeshi (Machila Jamba) led a team from the Road Development Agency (RDA) and National Construction Council (NCC) to inspect the road from Nampundwe turn off (Farmers) through Keezwa ward to blue lagoon national park ahead of the construction works.

Later, in 2023, the Road Development Agency worked on four roads located in Shibuyunji and Mumbwa Districts with the estimated total distance for all the roads being 155 kilometres. The four roads were: (1) Nampundwe-Keezwa-Muchabi Road (D534) – 78.5 kilometres; (2) Situmbeko-Chimbotela Road (D536) – 22 kilometres; (3) Kasalu-Keezwa Road (RD 490) – 38.5 kilometres; and (4.

Situmbeko-D534 (RD554) – 16 kilometres. The scope of works included, but was not limited to: Removal of unsuitable material; Filling earthworks; Road Formation; Spot gravelling; and Installation of concrete culverts of various sizes.

And now, the place will see its first tarred road since the earth was created.

The famous Blue Lagoon National Park is domiciled partly in Shibuyunji and also Mumbwa Districts and is located South of Nampundwe-Keezwa-Muchabi Road (Blue Lagoon Road). The distance is approximately 120 kilometres from Lusaka Central Business District (CBD).

This road links Lusaka to the Kafue flats, Blue Lagoon National Park, Kafue National Park and Mumbwa town. The Nampundwe Road, which spans three constituencies and two districts, is very important economically as it will link producers (farmers, mines and sugar plantations) to the market and help the sick access hospitals on time with workers easily moving to their places of toil on time.

Major economic activities to be serviced by this road include Kafue Sugar, Nampundwe Mine owned by KCM and Nsanje Mine.  Tourists from Lusaka can now easily drive into Blue Lagoon National Park and watch the famous Nanja (Lechwe) and drive back to Lusaka the same day.

Fish traders can also drive to Muchabi, Shachele and other fishing communities on the Kafue flats and buy fish and ferry the produce to the Copperbelt and Lusaka the same day. This economic road will also benefit our hardworking farmers in Keezwa, Nalubanda, Lukunka, Choombwa, Shamboze Village, Nambala, Lutale, Makuyu Abombe and other farming communities to easily transport their goods to markets in Lusaka and other areas.

FIC reveals how Zambians were scammed out of K600,000 in cryptocurrency fraud

FIC reveals how Zambians were scammed out of K600,000 in cryptocurrency fraud

THE Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) has revealed a sophisticated cryptocurrency scam that defrauded several Zambian nationals of approximately K600,000 over a period of six months.

The FIC’s investigation began after it received multiple r

eports about suspicious transactions involving cryptocurrency investments.

According to the report, the victims, all Zambian citizens, were approached by unknown individuals on social media platforms who persuaded them to invest in cryptocurrency schemes promising high returns.

Instead of using regulated local cryptocurrency platforms, the victims were directed to send their funds to wallet addresses linked to a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) registered in another country, referred to as Country J.

These wallet addresses were not connected to the victims’ usual cryptocurrency providers.

Despite making substantial investments, the victims did not receive any interest or profits, nor were they able to recover their initial investments.

Further analysis revealed that some of the funds had been withdrawn from these foreign wallet accounts through the VASP registered in Country J.

The FIC estimates that the total amount lost by the victims is around K600,000.

“The matter was disseminated to the relevant LEA (law enforcement agencies) and was under active investigation,” read the FIC report.

The Financial Intelligence Centre has since urged the public to exercise caution when investing in cryptocurrencies, especially when dealing with unknown individuals or platforms outside regulated environments.

The Centre recommended verifying the legitimacy of any investment opportunity before sending funds.

WOMAN FROM BRAZIL CAUGHT WITH R4.2 MILLION WORTH OF COCAINE AT OR TAMBO AIRPORT

WOMAN FROM BRAZIL CAUGHT WITH R4.2 MILLION WORTH OF COCAINE AT OR TAMBO AIRPORT

A 25-year-old alleged drug trafficker man was arrested at the OR Tambo International Airport after landing from Brazil.

The woman who flew in from Brazil and connected her flight in Doha, Qatar, was arrested on Tuesday.

“Acting on intelligence, a team comprising Crime Intelligence Counter Narcotics Intel Gauteng, ORTIA SAPS Tactical Team, Border Management Authority (BMA), and private security successfully identified and intercepted the Brazilian national shortly after landing,” said police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk.

Van Wyk said when the woman’s bag was searched, police uncovered approximately 10kg of cocaine, estimated to be worth R4.2 million.

“The trafficker was also taken for a medical examination to determine whether cocaine-filled bullets were swallowed. SAPS continues to record commendable successes in dismantling transnational drug syndicates operating between South Africa and other countries,” she said.

Van Wyk added that more than 25 drug traffickers have been arrested since the beginning of the year at the country’s busy airport.

Last month, a 39-year-old Brazilian man was arrested at the OR Tambo International Airport after he was found with R1.4 million cocaine wrapped around his thighs

The man was arrested after landing from São Paulo in Brazil.

National Police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, said the man landed from his home country and was in transit to Benin, West Africa when he was intercepted by police officers.

“He was pulled aside and during a body search, cocaine was found wrapped around his legs,” said Mathe at the time.

“Most of these drug traffickers are coming into the country from Brazil and are found to have swallowed these drugs. Through targeted intelligence operations, we have been able to intercept more than 20 drug traffickers in the last six months at this port of entry,” she said.

Diddy’s lawyers have reportedly filed a new motion proposing a $50 million bail package

If the new proposal is unsuccessful, Diddy will remain behind bars until his sentencing date on October 3rd.

Diddy’s legal team is once again trying to get the Bad Boy mogul out of jail ahead of his sentencing date in October. The jury in his sex trafficking and racketeering trial found him not guilty of the most serious charges, but still convicted him on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. In a new motion, his lawyers proposed a massive bail package that includes a payment of $50 million.

Diddy’s legal team suggested the case was unique and further described him as living a consensual “swingers” lifestyle. “In the history of the statute, the Mann Act has never been applied to facts similar to these to prosecute or incarcerate any other person,” the motion read, as caught by The New York Times. They also once again noted that the Mann Act has a history “rich with both racism and misogyny.”

On top of the $50 million, the new package claims Diddy will live at his home in Miami and limit his travel to the Southern District of Florida and the Southern District of New York. He will also surrender his passport and subject himself to supervision from the U.S. Pretrial Services Agency.

Judge Arun Subramanian denied Diddy’s previous bail request hours after his conviction. In doing so, he ruled that the Mann Act requires defendants to be detained ahead of sentencing, unless there are “exceptional” circumstances. Additionally, they can not pose a flight risk or danger to others. “The only things exceptional about this defendant are his wealth, his violence and his brazenness,” prosecutor Maurene Comey said at the time.

Subramanian referenced the defense’s open admission of repeated instances of domestic violence against Cassie Ventura in shooting down the proposal. “This type of violence, which happens behind closed doors in personal relationships, sparked by unpredictable bouts of anger, is impossible to police with conditions,” the judge said.

Subramanian has yet to rule on the newest bail proposal. For the time being, Diddy has been residing at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since his arrest in September 2024. He’ll appear in court again for his sentencing hearing on October 3rd. The prosecution has recommended a 4-year sentence.

Trump mocks ‘talentless’ Stephen Colbert after firing

President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social account on Tuesday, denying that he had anything to do with the cancellation of late-night comedian Stephen Colbert’s show — while lauding CBS and Paramount for giving him the axe, and suggesting other comedians who had attacked him might be next.

“Everybody is saying that I was solely responsible for the firing of Stephen Colbert from CBS, Late Night,” wrote Trump. “That is not true! The reason he was fired was a pure lack of TALENT, and the fact that this deficiency was costing CBS $50 Million Dollars a year in losses — And it was only going to get WORSE! Next up will be an even less talented Jimmy Kimmel, and then, a weak, and very insecure, Jimmy Fallon. The only real question is, who will go first?”

“Show Biz and Television is a very simple business,” Trump added. “If you get Ratings, you can say or do anything. If you don’t, you always become a victim. Colbert became a victim to himself, the other two will follow.”

Colbert, who first rose to prominence playing a satirical right-wing character, has been one of Trump’s most relentless critics on late-night comedy.

CBS has taken the same line as Trump, denying that Colbert’s removal was political and insisting his show was a money-loser.

However, the timing of the decision raised eyebrows, as it came just after Colbert attacked his own network, accusing CBS and Paramount of orchestrating a “big fat bribe” to Trump, laundered through a frivolous legal settlement to get their merger with Skydance expedited.

Expert warns Trump in legal jeopardy with ‘significant’ Epstein admission

A legal expert warned President Donald Trump on Tuesday that he may have put himself in legal jeopardy by admitting he knew one of Jeffrey Epstein’s victims.

Trump told reporters earlier on Tuesday that Epstein “stole” Virginia Giuffre from him when she was employed at Mar-a-Lago. That claim could backfire on Trump because it shows that he knew one of the central victims in the prosecution of Ghislaine Maxwell, according to Ryan Goodman, a law professor at New York University.

Goodman pointed to Maxwell’s 2022 sentencing, where the judge enhanced her sentence to 20 years because of Giuffre’s testimony.

“It’s that much of a significant statement,” Goodman told Erin Burnett on CNN’s “OutFront.” “If he had said he was aware of it from the court documents, then he’s ok in that regard. But I think that’s a very potentially bad situation for him to be in.”

Trump has fiercely tried to distance himself from the Epstein files saga, which has consumed his presidency for the last three weeks. However, his attempts appear to be falling short.

For example, multiple outlets have published previously unreported ties between the two men. The Wall Street Journal published a letter that Trump allegedly sent to Epstein for his 50th birthday. The New York Times has published details from one of Epstein’s accusers, and CNN has published previously unseen photos of the two men together at different events in the 1990s.

Trump’s comments come at a time when Maxwell has agreed to testify before Congress. Trump’s Justice Department has met with Maxwell and her lawyer multiple times, and some experts have suggested that Trump may pardon Maxwell in exchange for damaging testimony against Trump’s political rivals.

Trump’s stunning Putin admission shows ‘reality is hitting’- experts

Reality may be hitting President Donald Trump like a ton of bricks after Trump admitted Tuesday his threats against Russia “may not work.”

Trump, who boasted during the campaign that he could end the war in Ukraine by appealing to President Vladimir Putin, has threatened Russia with severe tariffs over the invasion.

Trump told reporters Tuesday on Air Force One that the United States may impose “tariffs and stuff” after 10 days. But the usually confident Trump didn’t appear confident that his strategy would work.

“I don’t know if it’s going to affect Russia, because he wants to, obviously, probably keep the war going,” Trump said. “But we’re going to put on tariffs and the various things you put on. It may or may not affect them. But it could.”

The New York Times on Tuesday wrote that Trump’s threats “raised questions about how much leverage the United States has with Moscow — and whether Mr. Trump is willing to use it.”

“Trump seems to be realizing what a lot of us observed from early on — that [Ukrainian President Volodymyr]Zelensky is not the problem,” Matt Duss, executive vice president at the Center for International Policy, told the Times. “Ukraine is not the problem. Putin is the problem.”

Duss added that Trump “obviously had great confidence in his own deal-making abilities,” but that “reality seems to be hitting.”

Evelyn Farkas, a former U.S. deputy assistant secretary of defense for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia, told the outlet that while Trump “has a lot of cards up his sleeve” to take on Russia — including legislation that would levy hefty sanctions on Russian imports — negotiating with Putin is another animal.

“He thought that he and his negotiators could talk Russia into some kind of compromise, but Putin is not interested in compromise,” Farkas said. “And so he’s going to keep on fighting until he realizes that he can’t achieve his objectives using military force. At the end of the day, he has to be convinced that he’s losing, and his people around him need to be convinced of that.”

The White House told the Times in a statement that Trump “wants to stop the killing, which is why he is selling American-made weapons to NATO members and threatening Putin with biting tariffs and sanctions.”

Ex-prosecutor warns Trump DOJ’s lack of credibility will haunt him

President Donald Trump has backed himself into a deep corner on the Jeffrey Epstein case, according to one analyst.

Former federal prosecutor Daniel Richman argued in a recent op-ed for The New York Times that Trump’s obsession with loyalty could make it more difficult for him to keep his base together as he tries to distance himself from the Epstein saga. Trump’s demand that federal officials like the F.B.I. Director Kash Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi sell the base a baseless story about Epstein to MAGA is a prime example, Richman argued.

Last month, federal officials released an unsigned memo that contradicted parts of the Epstein story that Trump and his surrogates spun for multiple years. The memo said Epstein died by suicide while awaiting trial, and that he never kept a list of clients.

To sell that story, Richman argued that Trump’s officials need to have credibility with the MAGA base. However, publishing the unsigned memo wiped away any chances of that happening.

“The unavoidable problem for the Trump administration is how it has poisoned the well it now wants to draw from,” Richman wrote.

Now, it appears Trump is ready to align himself with someone who has even less credibility than his Department of Justice.

Trump’s Deputy Attorney General, Todd Blanche, has met with Epstein’s accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell multiple times in recent weeks. Some experts suggest that Trump may be dangling a pardon in front of Maxwell in exchange for damaging testimony against Trump’s political enemies.

Maxwell was convicted of child sex trafficking in 2022 and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Maxwell also lied under oath multiple times in an attempt to avoid taking accountability for her actions, prosecutors alleged.

“Say she is willing to speak about a wide range of new matters, maybe involving the president. What confidence should we have that Trump Justice Department officials will push her hard to be truthful and candid?” Richman argued. “Or that they will report back everything she said?

“The answer to the last set of questions is probably ‘none,'” he continued.

“He stole people who worked for me” – Trump explains why he cut ties with Epstein

President Donald Trump said Monday that his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein ended years ago after the disgraced financier repeatedly crossed a line, hiring individuals who previously worked for him. That betrayal, Trump said, led him to cut ties and ban Epstein from his private Mar-a-Lago club.

Speaking alongside British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at his golf resort in Turnberry, Scotland, Trump dismissed the issue as “old history” but nonetheless offered an explanation when pressed by reporters.

“He hired help and I said, ‘Don’t ever do that again,’” Trump said. “He stole people that worked for me. I said, ‘Don’t ever do that again.’ He did it again, and I threw him out of the place, persona non grata.”

“I threw him out and that was it. I’m glad I did, if you want to know the truth,” he added.

Trump did not identify which staff were involved or where they had worked previously. The White House declined to elaborate. However, last week, communications director Steven Cheung offered a simpler explanation: “The fact is that the President kicked him out of his club for being a creep.”

Epstein, who died by suicide in a Manhattan jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, has remained a lingering controversy for Trump. Before returning to power, Trump and his allies frequently stoked conspiracy theories about Epstein’s death. Now, they face growing scrutiny after the Justice Department reaffirmed that Epstein died by suicide and announced it would not release additional case files.

The president and several senior officials had previously pledged transparency and promised to release those documents.

The Epstein controversy has also followed Trump’s running mate, Vice President JD Vance. During a stop in Canton, Ohio, where Vance was promoting Trump’s tax and immigration bill, a handful of protesters accused him of shielding predators, holding signs that read “JD Protects Pedophiles” and “GOP = Guardians of Pedophiles.”

Vance responded to a reporter’s question about Epstein by reiterating the administration’s commitment to full disclosure.

“The president has been very clear. We’re not shielding anything,” he said. “The president has directed the attorney general to release all credible information and, frankly, to go and find additional credible information related to the Jeffrey Epstein case.”

“Some of that stuff takes time,” Vance added. “But the president has been very clear. He wants full transparency.”

Trump also denied ever contributing to a booklet of letters and drawings that reportedly marked Epstein’s 50th birthday. A letter attributed to Trump and cited by the Wall Street Journal allegedly included a sketch of a woman’s body.

“I don’t do drawings of women, that I can tell you,” Trump said, according to AP’s report.

In 2019, Trump had described Epstein as a familiar figure in Palm Beach but claimed they hadn’t spoken in over 15 years, citing a long-standing falling-out.

Tory Lanez Gets New Court Date Amid Fight To Overturn Conviction

In 2022, Tory Lanez was found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot after a party two years prior.

Tory Lanez’s fight for freedom continues, and according to AllHipHop, he’s headed back to court next month. Reportedly, oral arguments in his bid to overturn his sentence will begin on August 18 in Los Angeles.

In 2022, he was found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot after a party two years prior. The following year, he was sentenced to ten years behind bars for it. He, along with countless fans and peers, have been calling for his release ever since. Lanez previously filed a request for release on bail, which was denied. The court labeled him a potential flight risk and cited other concerns.

News of the performer’s upcoming court date comes shortly after it was reported that multiple politicians began advocating for his release. This includes former New Jersey Assemblyman Jamel Holley and White House appointee Jack Brewer.

The two of them are petitioning California Governor Gavin Newsom to pardon him. Holley filed a formal petition this month. “I humbly implore you to exercise your authority…to grant clemency, correcting a grave injustice and safeguarding a life,” the petition states. “Mr. Peterson’s conviction rests on unstable foundations.”

Brewer took to X with a post about Lanez’s case, arguing that he should be brought home for the sake of his son. “As an advocate for 2nd Chance Fathers, I can’t stay silent about Tory Lanez,” he wrote. “This is another broken case that points to someone else, another father is lost to a system that rewards headlines over truth. Fatherlessness is destroying our nation.”

Lanez will be eligible for parole in November of 2029. If he is not granted parole at that time, he’s expected to stay in prison until 2033. His loved ones, however, expect him home “much sooner.”

UK to recognize Palestinian state by September

0

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that the United Kingdom will recognize the State of Palestine by September unless Israel takes significant steps to end what he described as the “appalling situation” in Gaza.

Speaking after an emergency cabinet meeting in London, Starmer stated: “We will recognize a Palestinian state as a contribution to a proper peace process, at the moment of maximum impact for the two-state solution.” He confirmed that unless Israel agrees to a ceasefire and demonstrates a commitment to sustainable peace, the UK will support Palestinian statehood at the United Nations General Assembly in September.

The prime minister’s announcement follows growing public outrage over Gaza’s humanitarian crisis, with Starmer noting that the British public is “revolted” by images of people starving in the region.

Israel’s foreign ministry swiftly rejected the announcement, calling it a “reward for Hamas” and claiming it would undermine efforts to secure a ceasefire and the release of hostages.

Starmer is facing mounting pressure from within his Labour Party to take a firmer stance on the conflict, a call that has intensified since French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France would recognize a Palestinian state in September, making it the first G7 nation to do so.

France welcomed the UK’s position, with its Foreign Minister saying the UK had “joined the momentum created by France” toward recognition.

Scottish First Minister John Swinney also backed the UK’s intent, though he emphasized that Palestinian statehood should not be conditional and called for sanctions against Israel if the violence continues.

Starmer explained that the decision is driven by the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the diminishing prospects for a two-state solution. “This announcement is aimed at changing conditions on the ground—ensuring aid gets through and restoring hope for peace,” he said.

Foreign Secretary David Lammy echoed the prime minister’s remarks at the United Nations, urging Israel to end its military campaign in Gaza and warning that the window for a two-state solution is rapidly closing.

“There is no contradiction between supporting Israel’s security and supporting Palestinian statehood,” Lammy told the UN.

While Spain, Ireland, and Norway recognized the State of Palestine last year, most other European nations have yet to follow suit. The UK’s statement marks a major shift in the political landscape surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with global implications for peace negotiations in the Middle East.

Ghislaine Maxwell offers to testify before US Congress

0

Ghislaine Maxwell, the convicted associate of Jeffrey Epstein, has offered to testify before the U.S. Congress under a strict set of conditions — chief among them, full immunity from prosecution.

This offer came in response to a subpoena from House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, who requested Maxwell’s testimony next month. Initially, her legal team intended to invoke her Fifth Amendment rights, but a new letter sent to the committee outlines her willingness to cooperate — provided that a “fair and safe path forward” is agreed upon.

Maxwell’s attorneys emphasized that she is currently appealing her conviction to the U.S. Supreme Court. They argue that any testimony given now could compromise her ongoing legal battle, infringe on her constitutional rights, and potentially influence a future jury pool.

The letter also expressed concern over what her legal team described as prejudicial public comments from some members of Congress. “These statements appear to have dismissed Ms. Maxwell’s credibility without even hearing her testimony or reviewing corroborating documents,” the letter stated.

Among Maxwell’s conditions for testifying are:

A formal grant of immunity.

The interview must not take place at the federal prison where she is currently serving her sentence.

All committee questions must be provided in advance to ensure preparation, fairness, and accuracy — with no surprise questioning allowed.

The testimony should be postponed until after the Supreme Court rules on her pending petition and a future habeas corpus filing.

The Supreme Court is not expected to take action on her petition before October, when the justices return from their summer recess.

However, the Oversight Committee appears unwilling to entertain her demands. A committee spokesperson dismissed the idea of immunity, stating they will respond formally but “will not consider granting congressional immunity for her testimony.”

Chairman Comer was more blunt, saying, “I don’t think there are many Republicans that want to give immunity to someone that may have been sex trafficking children.”

If her demands are not met, Maxwell’s lawyers made it clear that she will again invoke her Fifth Amendment rights.

In a striking conclusion, her legal team also floated the possibility of clemency.

They suggested that if Maxwell were granted clemency by former President Donald Trump, she would testify “openly and honestly” before Congress in Washington, D.C., to share her side of the story and address the “many misconceptions and misstatements” that have surrounded the case.

Morocco lodges complaint to CAF after WAFCON final loss to Nigeria’

The Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has filed an official complaint to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), citing “refereeing injustices” during the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which saw Nigeria’s Super Falcons claim a dramatic 3-2 victory.

According to Morocco World News, the FRMF specifically referenced a controversial moment in the 82nd minute when the score was tied at 2-2. The Moroccan side believed they were denied a clear penalty after a potential handball by Nigerian defender Tosin Demehin. Although the referee initially pointed to the spot, a VAR review overturned the decision—sparking immediate frustration from Morocco’s coaching staff and players.

The Moroccan federation claims the reversal shifted the momentum of the match, which Nigeria ultimately won in the closing stages.

Head coach Jorge Vilda, who famously led Spain to a FIFA Women’s World Cup title in 2023, voiced his disappointment: “It was a small detail that cost us the game.” He also noted that fatigue affected his players in the second half.

In contrast, Nigeria’s head coach Justine Madugu praised Morocco’s strong start but credited halftime tactical changes for his team’s turnaround.

“The players who came off the bench made the difference,” he said. “Morocco have a promising future.”

The final, held at Rabat’s Olympic Stadium, saw Morocco take a commanding 2-0 lead in the first half. However, the Super Falcons responded with a powerful second-half display, with goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and substitute Jennifer Echegini sealing a stunning comeback victory.

With the win, Nigeria claimed a record-extending 10th WAFCON title, while Morocco became the first host nation to lose in back-to-back WAFCON finals.

In the third-place match, Ghana’s Black Queens defeated South Africa’s Banyana Banyana on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Morocco will next welcome the continent’s top male footballers as host of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). It will mark the country’s second time hosting the tournament, the first being in 1988, when Cameroon defeated Nigeria 1-0 in the final.

Gunman k!lls 4 and injures 5 in rush-hour shooting at Manhattan, New York skyscraper

A deadly mass shooting erupted Monday evening inside a high-rise office building in Midtown Manhattan, leaving four people dead and several others injured. The gunman, identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura, an African American man from Las Vegas, opened fire at 345 Park Avenue before taking his own life, according to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

According to the New York Post, Tamura, who reportedly had a documented history of mental illness, drove across the country just hours before launching the attack. After double-parking a vehicle with Nevada license plates outside the 44-story building, he entered the lobby armed with a rifle and began shooting. His rampage left one NYPD officer and three civilians dead, with one additional person wounded and four others sustaining minor injuries while fleeing.

Authorities say Tamura was previously employed as a casino security guard. Surveillance footage shows him casually walking into the building with an assault rifle around 6:30 p.m., triggering chaos throughout the tower, which houses major companies including the NFL, Blackstone, and Rudin Management. He ultimately made his way to the 33rd floor, where he shot one more victim before fatally shooting himself.

Police recovered a rifle case, a loaded revolver, extra ammunition, magazines, a backpack, and prescription medication from Tamura’s vehicle. A photo obtained by the media also revealed he held a valid concealed firearms permit issued in Las Vegas, set to expire in 2027.

Investigators tracked Tamura’s cross-country drive, noting his vehicle was seen in Colorado on July 26, Nebraska and Iowa on July 27, and in Columbia, New Jersey at approximately 4:24 p.m. Monday. He arrived in Manhattan shortly thereafter and carried out the shooting soon after.

The attack has shaken the business community in the area, particularly given the high-profile nature of the tenants in the building. Security concerns have since intensified, with police continuing to investigate Tamura’s motives and background.

Tommy Robinson flees UK after being filmed next to an unconscious man

Tommy Robinson has left the United Kingdom after he was filmed next to an unconscious man at St Pancras Station in London, prompting police to launch an investigation and a search to bring him in for questioning.

The founder of the English Defence League was captured on video shouting “you saw him, he came at me” as a man lay face down and bleeding on the floor of the station on Sunday evening.

In a statement released Monday morning, the British Transport Police confirmed that Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley Lennon, boarded a flight out of the country in the early hours.

“Following a report of an assault at St Pancras station last night (28 July), officers have confirmed that the suspect, a 42-year-old man from Bedfordshire, boarded a flight out of the country in the early hours of this morning,” the statement read. “Detectives are continuing to work closely to progress the investigation and bring him into custody for questioning.”

Footage posted on social media showed Robinson walking down the stairs at the station while someone nearby shouted for help. He later returned up the stairs, stating “he come at me bruv, you saw that, he come at me” as the video ended.

Alleged racist founder of British group EDL Tommy Robinson flees UK after being filmed next to an unconscious man

Earlier in the day, Robinson had filmed himself handing out flyers at the station for an upcoming protest, a video titled “Spreading the word” on his X account.

British Transport Police said a man was taken to hospital with serious injuries that are not believed to be life threatening. Officers responded to the scene shortly after 8.40pm on Sunday and the investigation has continued overnight.

Photos taken after the incident show forensic officers examining the scene and collecting DNA samples from a stair handrail, where blood stains were visible.

A witness told LBC that paramedics used a blood transfusion bag while trying to resuscitate the man. “I saw an unconscious man being worked on by paramedics – they erected curtains around him. They were trying to resuscitate him – and there was what looked like a blood transfusion bag,” the witness said.

The station remained open to the public during the incident.

British Transport Police urged anyone with information to contact them. “Officers are aware of an incident tonight (28 July) at St Pancras station and are investigating. If anyone has any information regarding the incident please text 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40 reference 655 of 28 July,” a spokesperson said.

This is not the first time Robinson has left the UK amid controversy. In 2023, he was seen at a luxury resort in Cyprus during protests in the UK. In 2020, he relocated to Spain following an alleged arson attack on his home.

Earlier this year, he and his group were asked to leave a London restaurant after staff said they felt uncomfortable serving him.

The 35-year-old made the revelation during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, stating that his final punch in the ring could be thrown later this year.

“Shout to Matchroom Boxing for all you have done for me and continue to do for me,” he said, paying tribute to the boxing promotional organisation who he has worked with for the past 12 years.

“Long may you reign supreme and keep giving fighters opportunities to become champions and make boxing great. Twelve years ago, I signed with you and 12 years later I will throw my last punch with you.

“Royalty and loyalty is a perfect match for the great good. A toast to another 100 years of Matchroom Boxing. And to finish on this… If I could start from scratch, I wouldn’t change s***.”

He is expected to return to the ring before the end of 2025.

The former Team GB star has enjoyed a stellar amateur and professional career, capturing Olympic gold at London 2012 before going on to establish himself as one of the most formidable blue-riband division operators of the 21st century.

Joshua inked a long-term agreement with Eddie Hearn just months after his Olympic success 13 years ago, and has since gone on to play a defining role in the modern-day transformation of the sport.

Dimitri Payet set to go to trial in Brazil’ after being accused of forcing ex-mistress to ‘film bizarre s33x acts’ and ‘drink her ur!ne’

French footballer, Dimitri Payet, is set to go on trial in Brazil after being charged with ‘psychological violence’ against his former mistress Larissa Natalya Ferrari.

The case against the former West Ham player, 38, was initially dismissed by prosecutors in Rio de Janeiro. But after an appeal last month, he was then indicted.

Brazilian newspaper Globo reported that the Rio de Janeiro Court last Friday accepted the Public Prosecutor’s Office’s complaint, with Payet now set to go on trial.

Payet’s defence lawyer Sheila Lustoza said reportedly said she disagrees with the decision, but respects it and stressed it was a natural part of the process.

‘From this point onwards, however, the defence will be granted the right to present its version of the facts with all the evidence gathered so far,’ a statement read.

‘Therefore, we are confident that after analysing all the material and the numerous contradictions found, the accusatory version will be deconstructed.’

Ferrari’s lawyers said they welcomed the decision by the city’s Domestic Violence Court in accepting the complaint.

‘We received the recent decision with confidence in the institutions responsible for investigating the facts and holding the person under investigation accountable, recognising it as an important step forward in the search for the truth and reparation for the damages suffered by the victim.

‘The Judiciary’s position reaffirms the authorities’ commitment to the seriousness of the events and their firm determination to curb practices that violate women’s dignity, regardless of the social position or public visibility of the person under investigation.

‘We reiterate our commitment to remain firm in the uncompromising defense of our client’s rights, certain that justice will prevail.’

Earlier this year, Ferrari alleged that she was forced to drink her own urine and lick the floor during a turbulent seven-month affair.

Last month, Brazilian outlet G1 claimed to have obtained a document with details of the case in which the lawyer attested to suffering from borderline personality disorder, believing Payet, whose contract with Rio de Janeiro-based Vasco da Gama was terminated 10 days ago, took advantage of her condition.

‘Dimitri knew about my passion and psychological problems, using this against me,’ she is reported to have said by G1. ‘Dimitri convinced me to put my head in the trash, in the toilet, made me drink my own urine, and other s£xual bizarre acts.’

The Frenchman was reportedly heard at the Women’s Assistance Police Station where he admitted to having a relationship with Ferrari but insisted every act during their union was consensual.

Furthermore, Payet, who left his wife of almost 20 years Ludivine and their four children back in his homeland during his time in Brazil, was alleged to have admitted to the acts but maintained that they were consensual and proposed by Ferrari.

G1’s report mentioned an encounter when Ferrari ‘requested slaps during sexual intercourse’ and as a result, developed marks on her body.

The Frenchman also reportedly claimed that the two used wooden chairs during sexual intercourse, and that, due to Ferrari’s light skin, any pressure would lead to marks.

It followed Ferrari’s impassioned public plea for ‘justice’, in a statement in which she claimed to have been ‘humiliated’ by the 38-cap former Les Blues star.

‘I want justice because he abused my psychological vulnerability to gain sexual advantage,’ she told AFP. ‘He demanded proof of love from me, which consisted of humiliation.

‘I recorded videos in which I drank my urine, drank water from the toilet bowl, and licked the floor. I’m a lawyer, I would never have made such serious complaints lightly.’

It was claimed that Payet refused Ferrari’s desire to continue this relationship in France, on the condition he pay her expenses, as his time in the country approached its end.

According to the player, the lawyer’s behaviour changed from then on, leading to her threatening to ‘expose his secrets’ if he did not respond within four hours of her birthday message.

Payet’s lawyer Lustoza told G1: ‘It is regrettable that confidential records were leaked, but the case reveals with evidence something that is very clear: a woman exercising her freedom and will, as it should be, contrary to what has been publicly narrated up until now. The defense is confident that the truth that is proven by documents will demonstrate these facts.’

CAF has announced a record-breaking $10.4 million prize pool for the upcoming African Nations Championship(CHAN)

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a record-breaking $10.4 million prize pool for the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

For the first time in the tournament’s history, the eventual champions will pocket a staggering $3.5m, an increase of 75 per cent from the $2m awarded to the winners of the last edition.

The runner-up will receive $1.2m, while the third and fourth-place teams will walk away with $700,000 and $600,000, respectively.

Each of the four losing quarter-finalists will earn $450,000, while teams that finish third or fourth in their respective groups will receive either $300,000 or $200,000, depending on their group format.

Additionally, the bottom-placed teams in the five-team groups will each take home $200,000.

The prize distribution caters to all 19 participating teams and is designed to reward even early-stage participants.

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe said the increase in prize money reflects the federation’s ongoing efforts to promote and invest in African football at all levels.

“This increase in prize money will support the development of locally based players and help strengthen the global competitiveness of African football,” Motsepe said in a statement released by CAF.

He added that the tournament remains “a key part of our strategy to make African football more appealing to fans, sponsors, and global broadcasters.”

The 2024 edition of CHAN, officially branded as the CAF African Nations Championship Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda 2024, will be the first to be jointly hosted by three countries.

With the tournament to run from August 2 to 30, 2025, it will bring together 19 teams, including defending champions Senegal, record winners Morocco, and DR Congo, as well as Nigeria, Algeria, Guinea, and Zambia.

Diddy’s lawyers ask judge to release him from jail while awaiting sentencing

Sean Combs’ lawyers ask judge to release him from jail while awaiting sentencing

Attorneys for Sean “Diddy” Combs have asked a federal judge to release him from jail ahead of his sentencing, saying that there are “exceptional reasons” why he shouldn’t remain behind bars.

Combs was convicted on July 2 on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution in a split verdict that acquitted him of two counts of sex trafficking and one count of racketeering conspiracy.

In a letter Tuesday addressed to Judge Arun Subramanian, who presided over Combs’ trial, attorneys for the rap music mogul argued that there were “exceptional reasons” that merited Combs’ release, stating in part that the law under which Combs was convicted “has never been applied to facts similar to these to prosecute or incarcerate any other person.”

“There has literally never been a case, like this one, where a person and his girlfriend arranged for adult men to have consensual sexual relations with the adult, long-term girlfriend as part of a demonstrated swingers lifestyle, and has been prosecuted and incarcerated under the Mann Act,” the defense letter said. “Sean Combs should not be in jail for this conduct.”

The 12-page letter proposes that Combs be released on $50 million bail and reside in his home in Miami while awaiting sentencing, with any travel “limited to the Southern District of Florida, the Southern District of New York for attorney meetings, as well as airports necessary to travel between the two.”

After Combs was acquitted of the more serious sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges, Subramanian declined to release him on bail prior to sentencing, citing a provision in the transportation to engage in prostitution law that he said presumes detention.

Combs has spent more than 10 months behind bars at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, since his arrest in Sept. 2024. His attorneys initially attempted and then discontinued efforts to secure an earlier sentencing date for him.

Victor Osimhen set for unveiling as Galatasaray complete record €75M move from Napoli

Turkish club, Galatasaray is set to officially unveil Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen this weekend, following the completion of a sensational €75 million transfer from Napoli.

According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, Galatasaray Vice President Abdullah Kavukcu will travel to Italy in the coming hours to finalize paperwork before escorting the 26-year-old striker to Istanbul.

The unveiling is scheduled for Saturday, August 2, at RAMS Park during the high-profile friendly clash with Laz.

Osimhen, who spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Galatasaray, scored 37 goals and provided 8 assists in 41 appearances. His prolific form powered the club to a historic league and cup double.

The details of his move to Galatasaray will see the club pay €40 million upfront, with an additional €35 million spread across installments due by the end of 2026. Napoli has secured a 10% sell-on clause and a two-year restriction preventing Osimhen’s immediate return to Serie A.

The deal is one of the most expensive exits in Napoli’s history and the biggest signing in Turkish football history.

Chelsea forward Joao Felix joins Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr

Chelsea forward Joao Félix has joined Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr after signing with the Saudi Club in a deal that could reach £43.7m (€50m).

The figure is made up of an initial £26.2m (€30m) fee and £17.5m (€20m) in potential add-ons.

His former club Benfica, were previously in talks to re-sign the 25-year-old. However, Al Nassr hijacked the deal and have now completed their move for Felix as they go all out to try and win the Saudi Pro League, having extended Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract.

Felix re-joined Chelsea permanently last summer from Atletico Madrid for a fee of £46.3m after a previous half-season loan spell at Stamford Bridge in 2023.

The Portugal international made 20 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea last season, netting seven goals.

Despite failing to establish himself in either of those two stints, Chelsea have still recouped almost all of what they spent to sign Felix permanently.

They also banked a £5m fee following Felix’s loan move to AC Milan, where he scored three goals across 19 appearances, in February.

In total so far this summer, Chelsea have raised £135.7m from sales, while their net spend for the window is £82.3m.

She threatened to give my ‘wife’ to any other capable man to marry – Suspect reveals why he k!lled his mother-in-law

A 27-year-old man who was arrested for allegedly k!lling his mother-in-law in Kogi State has revealed why he committed the crime.

LIB reported that the incident occurred in Olla community, Omala local government aree of the state last Friday, July 25.

The suspect identified as Yayu Musa, lured the 50-year-old woman, Atayi Abdul to her farm where he attacked her with a machete.

Musa fled to a neighbouring village after the m8rder, but was traced and arrested by a local vigilante group.

A family member of the deceased, Lawal Muhammed, said that the suspect k!lled the woman because she refused to accept his proposal to marry her daughter.

However, during interrogation, he confessed to committing the crime because his mother in-law had been threatening to marry off her daughter Umi Idris, to another man because he couldn’t get her pregnant.

“I was angered into k!lling my mother-in-law because she wanted to deprive me from marrying her daughter,” he said.

“The woman (victim) gave me her daughter Umi Idris to marry, and I have spent all my hard earned cash in caring for my wife. But my mother in-law insisted that she will give my wife to another man to marry simply because my wife has difficulty becoming pregnant. And I have spent so much money to ensure my wife conceived to no avail.

“At a point I had to sell my motorcycle and made serious financial commitment in seeking medical solutions for my wife to get pregnant. But in spite of all that I did, my mother-in-law kept telling me I am not man enough to marry her daughter, and that she will give my wife to any other capable man to marry.

“So that was why I got angry, and I love my wife, I don’t want to see her marry another person while I’m still alive.”

Yamal not on Lioni Messi’s level yet – Guardiola

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has urged fans and the media not to draw premature comparisons between Barcelona’s rising star Lamine Yamal and football legend Lionel Messi.

In a recent interview with GQ Magazine, the former Barcelona boss made it clear that while Yamal is talented, he is not yet in the same league as Messi.

“I think Lamine Yamal should be allowed to build his own career. Once he’s been playing for 15 years, we can evaluate if he’s better or not,” Guardiola said. “But comparing him to Messi already… that’s a big statement. Like comparing a painter to Van Gogh.”

Guardiola, who won two Champions League titles with Messi during his time at Barcelona, acknowledged Yamal’s potential but emphasized the uniqueness of Messi’s legacy.

“We’re talking about 90 goals in a single season, for 15 years straight, without injuries. That’s something else entirely. Leave the kid alone,” he added.

Yamal, 18, has been one of the standout young talents at Barcelona, drawing praise for his performances. But Guardiola’s message is clear—let the teenager grow without the weight of impossible expectations.

Secret Service agent tried to sneak wife onto Presidential flight

0

US President, Donald Trump confirmed Tuesday, July 29, that a Secret Service agent attempted to sneak his wife onto a transport plane accompanying the presidential Air Force One flight to Scotland, calling it the latest embarrassing episode for the agency.

“Wouldn’t you think it might be a little dangerous?” Trump told reporters while returning to Washington after a five-day trip overseas.

“That’s a weird deal,” he added, noting he had been briefed on the matter and expressing confidence that Secret Service Director Sean M. Curran would “take care of it.”

According to reports from the Herald in Glasgow, the Dallas-based agent flew his wife—who serves in the U.S. Air Force—to Maryland. She received an official briefing and was escorted to Joint Base Andrews ahead of Trump’s departure. However, officials later discovered the unauthorized plan and ordered her off the flight.

Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi confirmed the internal investigation in a statement, saying, “The U.S. Secret Service is conducting a personnel investigation after an employee attempted to invite his spouse — a member of the United States Air Force — aboard a mission support flight. Prior to the overseas departure, the employee was advised by supervisors that such action was prohibited, and the spouse was subsequently prevented from taking the flight.”

Guglielmi also clarified that no Secret Service protectees were aboard the aircraft and that the incident had no impact on the overseas protective operation.

Multiple aircraft typically accompany Air Force One during international trips, transporting security personnel, equipment, and other logistical support.

29-year-old Google engineer dies in freak accident after tree branch fell and struck her

A 29-year-old Google software engineer was k!lled in a freak accident at Yosemite National Park when a branch from a giant sequoia tree fell and struck her on the head.

Angela Lin, who worked as a software engineer for about six years at Salesforce and then Google, was hiking on July 19 with her boyfriend and two friends on a trail that wound through the Tuolumne Grove of towering sequoias.

29-year-old Google engineer dies in freak accident after tree branch fell and struck her while on popular Yosemite trail

Suddenly a large crack sounded from above, and two seconds later, several branches from one of the famously massive trees came tumbling down, according to Lin’s boyfriend, David Hua.

“One big branch struck Angela, and then there were a bunch of smaller ones directly behind me,” Hua told SFGate.

As the branches fell, Hua said he closed his eyes and by the time he opened them, Lin was sprawled face up on the ground with blood pooling around her head.

Hua said he called 911 and performed CPR until a park ranger arrived and took over.

An ambulance eventually made it to the scene, but Lin was never placed inside.

Emergency personnel later said that the falling branch had likely k!lled his girlfriend instantly, Hua said.

“It was just unimaginable that something like this could occur,” Hua said with a shaky voice, according to SFGate.

“On such a popular trail, too.”

Tuolumne Grove, the area where Lin and her group had been hiking, was closed to visitors for about a week after her de@th.

Yosemite public affairs officer Scott Gediman told SFGate the incident is still under investigation.

Hua said Lin’s loved ones have not been able to learn more from the park service, and the frustrating experience has pushed them to go to the media.

“We are seeking more information from the park service regarding this incident, especially around trail safety, maintenance and awareness of problematic trees on popular trails, and future prevention of similar incidents,” Hua said.

Traumatized bystanders have also been frantically searching for information on Lin, with one person creating a Reddit post titled “Tuolumne Grove Incident 7/19” in hopes of finding out whether Lin survived.

“I am a tourist, but was on the scene of an extremely tragic freak accident in the area trying to provide [aid], and it has been haunting me. I can’t stop thinking about it and can’t find any news articles updating about the situation,” the user wrote in a post on the Reddit thread.

“It hits so so hard because they were doing nothing wrong or careless… Life can be so cruel.”

DEFEND DIGNITY- STOP THE PERSECUTION OF THE LUNGU FAMILY- Brian Matambo

PRESS STATEMENT: DEFEND DIGNITY- STOP THE PERSECUTION OF THE LUNGU FAMILY

29 July 2025
We issue this statement with deep pain and outrage following the latest act of state, sponsored cruelty by the UPND government, which has now moved to legally harass the widow and family of the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, even in death.

According to a letter dated 29 July 2025 from VFV Attorneys, acting on behalf of the Attorney General of Zambia, the Zambian government is demanding to inspect and “authenticate” the body of the late President currently kept at a funeral parlour in Pretoria, South Africa.

This unprecedented request is not only unnecessary, it is a shameful insult to the dignity of a fallen Head of State. It violates African customs, human decency, and all moral logic. The family of President Lungu has every right to mourn their loved one in peace, free from intimidation, threats, and judicial intrusion.

Worse still, by demanding to verify the identity of the body, the Zambian authorities are effectively accusing the South African government and its institutions of dishonesty and complicity. This is a direct diplomatic insult to a nation that has, until now, treated this matter with professionalism, legal clarity, and respect. Let us be clear: South African authorities have already confirmed the death, offered official condolences, and issued the necessary documents in accordance with law.

It is also worth noting that a South African court order issued on 25 June 2025 expressly states that only the widow, family members, and spokesperson are authorized to inspect the body. The Zambian government’s attempt to override this order is not only unlawful, it is a dangerous attack on judicial sovereignty.

Let the record show: the decision to bury President Lungu in South Africa was not political. It was a necessary act of protection against the same political hostility that continues today. The harassment, arrests, raids, and public defamation endured by the Lungu family made it impossible to guarantee a safe and dignified burial in Zambia.

We therefore call upon all peace, loving Zambians, religious leaders, civil society, and the international community to take a stand. The dignity of the dead must be sacred. The rights of widows and families must be defended. No political vendetta should be allowed to stretch beyond the grave.

*We demand the following:*
1. That the Zambian government immediately withdraw all legal actions targeting Esther Lungu and her family in South Africa;
2. That the State respect South African legal rulings and refrain from any further attempts to interfere with funeral arrangements;
3. That all future dealings with the family of President Lungu be conducted with compassion, respect, and dignity, befitting the legacy of a man who served as Zambia’s sixth republican president.

Let us not be remembered as a nation that persecuted its widows and disrespected its own history.

May the memory of President Edgar Chagwa Lungu be honored, not defiled.

KBN Defends its Opposition Leadership Survey As Credible, Contrary to UPND’s Claim

KBN Defends its Opposition Leadership Survey As Credible, Contrary to UPND’s Claim

Lusaka, 28 July 2025 — KBN Television Chief Executive Officer, Pastor Kennedy Mambwe has dismissed allegations by UPND Media Director Mark Simuuwe that the station’s recent national opposition leadership survey was flawed and fraudulent.

Mr. Simuuwe had questioned the credibility of the survey, which showed that 76.3 percent of respondents want a change in presidential leadership in 2026 and placed PF Mporokoso MP Brian Mundubile as the leading opposition candidate with 20.7 percent of the vote. The UPND official criticised the survey’s online method and argued that it failed to show how many eligible voters were reached, suggesting it was not representative of the Zambian population.

In response, Pastor. Mambwe stated that while the survey had limitations—as all public opinion exercises do—there was nothing fraudulent about the process.

“We categorically reject the claim that the KBN survey is fraudulent. It was conducted transparently over a 10-day period and attracted 2,377 verified responses from across all ten provinces. It was open to the public, non-partisan, and designed to gauge perception, not predict electoral outcomes,” Pastor. Mambwe said.

He acknowledged the points raised by the UPND as “constructive” and promised that future KBN surveys would include more robust questions, such as whether respondents are registered voters and their political leanings, to improve data depth and diversity.

“We hear the concerns raised. Going forward, we will include indicators such as voter registration status and self-declared political affiliation, and we’re exploring offline data collection to capture broader demographics,” he said.

Pastor. Mambwe maintained that the KBN Television Research Desk remains committed to professional media practice and to contributing to Zambia’s democratic development.

“Our goal is to stimulate informed national dialogue, not to crown political winners. What the survey clearly showed is that Zambians are deeply interested in who leads the opposition. This is a space that deserves attention and open discussion.”

He further emphasized that the media house will continue to release more opinion-based surveys in the coming months, covering governance, the economy, youth priorities, and electoral readiness.

“We believe the road to 2026 requires courage, ideas, and honesty—from both political leaders and media institutions,” he concluded.

LUNGU FAMILY WANTS MONEY BACK AFTER FAILED SOUTH AFRICA FUNERAL: SAYS GOVERNMENT RUINED THEIR PLANS

LUNGU FAMILY WANTS MONEY BACK AFTER FAILED SOUTH AFRICA FUNERAL: SAYS GOVERNMENT RUINED THEIR PLANS

Just when we thought we had seen it all, the Lungu family is now in a South African court crying foul—because the Zambian government stopped them from burying former President Edgar Lungu in South Africa. Now they want the government to pay them back for all the funeral plans they made. Yes, seriously.

According to the family, they had already paid for a fancy funeral: funeral home, venue, transport, pastors, and even security. They say everything was in place to bury Mr. Lungu outside the country, far away from the soil he once ruled.

Then the Zambian government stepped in—on the same day the burial was supposed to happen—and said, “Nope. Bring the body home.” The family says this last-minute move brought them pain, confusion, and wasted their money. So now they’re in court asking for compensation.

But here’s the part that really makes you shake your head: they say that Esther Lungu, as the wife, has full legal power under South African law to decide where her husband should be buried. South African law? Since when did we start following foreign laws to bury a Zambian president?

They claim Mr. Lungu made it clear he didn’t want to be buried under President Hakainde Hichilema’s government. Apparently, being laid to rest in the country you led is now an insult.

So instead of working with government to give him a proper send-off as a former Head of State, they want to be refunded for planning a VIP burial in another country. What’s next—demanding refund for a cancelled afterparty?

Meanwhile, the Zambian government says, as it should, that the former President must be buried in Zambia. Simple. He was President of Zambia, not Sandton.

But the family insists: “We spent money. We were hurt. Pay us back.”

All this, in a country where ordinary families are struggling to even buy a coffin. Now we have to watch the former First Family fight in court because their five-star funeral didn’t go as planned.

This whole thing has stopped being sad. It’s embarrassing. If leading Zambia wasn’t enough honour for Mr. Lungu, maybe it’s time we asked what kind of leadership we were under in the first place.

And if refusing to be buried in your own country is the last message you want to leave behind, then maybe that says more about you than about the government.

ZICA DEMANDS PUBLIC RELEASE OF PwC FORENSIC AUDIT REPORT ON ZAMMSA

ZICA DEMANDS PUBLIC RELEASE OF PwC FORENSIC AUDIT REPORT ON ZAMMSA

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zambia (ZICA) has called on the Zambian government to immediately release the PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) forensic audit report into the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA), saying the findings must be made public in the interest of transparency and national accountability.

Speaking during a media briefing, ZICA President Mrs. Yande Siame Mwenye stressed that the report, which exposed critical weaknesses in ZAMMSA’s internal controls and supply chain management, should not be kept behind closed doors especially after the United States government withdrew funding to Zambia’s health sector over the scandal.

“The public has a right to know what went wrong. We urge the Government to release the full PwC forensic audit report so that citizens, civil society, and oversight institutions can understand the root causes of the failure and ensure such mismanagement never happens again,” said Mrs. Mwenye.

ZICA commended the government for commissioning the audit in the first place but emphasized that secrecy undermines the purpose of such an exercise. The report, according to sources close to the investigation, includes damning evidence of procurement irregularities, loss of medical supplies, and possible collusion within the agency’s leadership.

“It is not enough to act behind the scenes. Transparency is a key pillar of good governance. We cannot rebuild trust or attract donor confidence if we are not willing to confront our failures openly,” Mrs. Mwenye added.

The audit followed international concerns and the decision by the U.S. government to suspend aid linked to Zambia’s health procurement system due to suspected misappropriation of medicines and critical supplies. The implications have been far-reaching, affecting drug availability in health facilities and raising alarms across the medical fraternity.

ZICA believes that releasing the report will serve multiple purposes including restoring public confidence, guiding reforms in the medical supply system, and deterring future acts of corruption and negligence.

“We must use this audit as a national learning moment. The findings should inform systemic reforms, not be shelved. Zambia’s citizens deserve a healthcare system that is efficient, ethical, and transparent,” she stated.

The professional body further warned that continued concealment of audit findings risks creating a culture of impunity, especially within public institutions that handle vital national resources.

“When things go wrong in systems as sensitive as medicine procurement, silence is not an option. Hiding reports only shields wrongdoers and prolongs the suffering of ordinary Zambians,” the ZICA President said.

Mrs. Mwenye also underscored the importance of stakeholder consultation in any forthcoming policy and legal reforms, urging the government to work closely with financial institutions, the Law Association of Zambia, private sector players, and watchdog bodies like ZICA.

She concluded with a renewed call for stronger accountability frameworks and regular audits in key public sectors, warning that financial crimes linked to procurement can no longer be viewed as mere administrative oversights.

“Let this not be another forgotten scandal. We need to break the cycle of silence. The PwC report must be released to the public not only for justice, but also for the future of Zambia’s public health system,” she declared.

ZAMBIANS CAUTIONED OVER US VISA ABUSE

….one in every eight Zambians travelling to the United States overstays their visa or fails to return.

Government has issued a caution to Zambians travelling to, or residing in, the United States of America, urging them to strictly adhere to visa conditions.

Ministry of Information and Media Acting Permanent Secretary, LOUIS MWANSA, says Government is concerned by recent statistics indicating that one in every eight Zambians travelling to the United States overstays their visa or fails to return.

Mr. MWANSA has warned that such trends could tarnish Zambia’s international reputation and potentially lead to tighter travel restrictions for future travellers.

He said that violating visa conditions, such as overstaying or working without proper authorization, can have serious consequences, including fines, imprisonment, or deportation.

ZAMBIA UPHOLDS RULE OF LAW AS KEY TO GLOBAL CONFIDENCE  HAIMBE RESPONDS TO CALLS ON POLITICAL ARRESTS

ZAMBIA UPHOLDS RULE OF LAW AS KEY TO GLOBAL CONFIDENCE  HAIMBE RESPONDS TO CALLS ON POLITICAL ARRESTS

By  Dennis Sikazwe Jr

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hon. Mulambo Haimbe has reaffirmed Zambia’s unwavering commitment to the rule of law, stating that the country’s stand against corruption is building strong international confidence and boosting investor trust.

Responding to Chinsali Member of Parliament Hon. Kalalwe Mukosa, who raised concerns about the impact of political arrests on Zambia’s global image, Hon. Haimbe clarified that the arrests being made are not politically motivated, but rather anchored in the fight against corruption and criminality.

“The arrest of persons who are alleged to have come in conflict with the law through corrupt and other illegal activity actually encourages our partners,” said Hon. Haimbe. “They no longer see Zambia as a country of unchecked corruption, but as one where justice prevails.”

He emphasized that investors and development partners are taking note of Zambia’s transformation under President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership. The government’s actions are assuring the international community that Zambia is serious about protecting public resources and foreign direct investments.

“Our international partners are happy. They say, ‘Yes, this is a country of laws  where alleged criminals are brought before competent courts of jurisdiction, and where investments are secure because leaders fear and respect the law,’” Hon. Haimbe added.

He noted that Zambia is steadily becoming a safe haven for investment  a destination where transparency, accountability, and justice form the foundation of governance.

As the New Dawn government continues to steer the country forward, Hon. Haimbe’s remarks highlight the administration’s focus on cleaning up the past and ensuring that public office bearers are held accountable  not for political revenge, but for national progress.

In the words of the Minister: “This is a country we are proud to call a land of laws  a good partner for development and investment.”

Zambia’s stance is clear: the rule of law is not up for compromise. It is the very reason the world is watching, applauding, and investing.
