TONSE ALLIANCE STATEMENT ON PUBLIC DISAGREEMENTS BETWEEN SOME ALLIANCE MEMBERS

TONSE ALLIANCE STATEMENT ON PUBLIC DISAGREEMENTS BETWEEN SOME ALLIANCE MEMBERS

Lusaka, 26th July 2025

1. The TONSE ALLIANCE has noted with regret, the public display of disagreements between some of the members, using different media platforms, in the past two days.

2. The Alliance would like to assert that the conduct of washing dirty linen in public is contrary to the values and principles of the TONSE ALLIANCE, as enshrined in the Alliance Constitution.

3. The TONSE ALLIANCE would like to assure the general public that the Alliance is intact and ready to serve the Zambian people. However, we also wish to acknowledge and admit that there exists some disagreements between some members, regarding the correct interpretation of the Alliance Constitution, but these internal disagreements are being amicably resolved internally.

4. It is worth noting that, in an Alliance, disagreements are normal and sometimes even healthy. What is not healthy is when such internal disagreements are taken to the public using the media. In this regard, the TONSE ALLIANCE would like to inform the general public that it has since issued a moratorium on all members, to cease and desist from issuing public statements on any internal matters of the Alliance. Appropriate disciplinary action shall be taken against any erring member who fails to comply with this directive.

5. The TONSE ALLIANCE would like to take this opportunity to also inform the public that there is only one Deputy Spokesperson of the Alliance, and that person remains Ambassador Emmanuel Mwamba. Any other person who claims or portrays themselves as a Deputy Spokesperson of the Alliance, should be ignored with the contempt that they deserve.

6. The TONSE ALLIANCE looks forward to electing its substantive leadership, following the untimely loss of our Chairman, His Excellency Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu, as soon as we lay our Chairman to rest. In the meantime, all members are advised to focus on mourning with President Lungu’s family. May the Soul of Our Dearly Departed Chairman Rest in Eternal Peace.

KBN Regrets M’membe’s Withdrawal From The Opposition Leadership Survey as a Missed Opportunity for Public Accountability

KBN Regrets M’membe’s Withdrawal From The Opposition Leadership Survey as a Missed Opportunity for Public Accountability

Lusaka, July 26, 2025

Kenmark Broadcasting Network (KBN) has confirmed the withdrawal of Socialist Party President Dr. Fred M’membe from its ongoing Opposition Leadership Survey but described the move as regrettable, stating that opting out of a public opinion poll undermines the spirit of democratic accountability.

In an official statement responding to Dr. M’membe’s formal request dated July 25, 2025, KBN Chief Executive Officer Pastor Kennedy Mambwe reaffirmed that the media house would honour the request and exclude Dr. M’membe’s name from current and future surveys. However, the broadcaster defended the legitimacy of the survey process, citing international and local precedents of media-led opinion polling.

“It is not alien for media institutions to run public polls,” said Pastor Mambwe. “media houses can conduct public opinion polls on governance, presidential performance, and opposition standing. These exercises are not political attacks; they are civic tools that test the pulse of the nation.”

KBN emphasized that the Opposition Leadership Survey was designed in good faith to promote transparency, political engagement, and leadership accountability. The network dismissed insinuations of bias or manipulation, clarifying that the methodology was consistent and transparent, with no candidate receiving preferential treatment.

While acknowledging Dr. M’membe’s concerns around methodology and consent, KBN expressed disappointment that a seasoned media veteran and presidential aspirant would distance himself from a tool meant to foster public dialogue.

“Refusing to be part of a public opinion poll is not just a procedural matter—it sends a message that a leader may be unwilling to face scrutiny,” Pastor Mambwe stated. “As someone who once led one of Zambia’s most influential newspapers and who understands the media’s democratic role, Dr. M’membe’s withdrawal is deeply ironic.”

Analysts have also weighed in, arguing that public opinion polls, though not perfect, are essential instruments in shaping credible political choices. They offer citizens a platform to express preferences and signal expectations. With the 2026 General Elections on the horizon, the KBN survey is part of a broader effort to ensure that public voices are heard beyond the rally stage.

“As a broadcaster, our role is not to favour or fight anyone,” said Mambwe. “Our duty is to inform, to engage, and to empower the public with platforms that spark reflection and dialogue. The survey is one such platform.”

Despite the setback, KBN reaffirmed its commitment to objective journalism and encouraged all political players to embrace public scrutiny as a necessary part of democratic leadership.

Results of the opposition presidential survey is due to be released on tomorrow on KBN TV’s Sunday Analysis Program live at 20:30hrs. Voting is currently on going until 18:00hrs today.

UPND IS A VERY BAD GOVERNMENT – KAFWAYA

UPND IS A VERY BAD GOVERNMENT – KAFWAYA

……as Hon Chisanga tells Government to Apologize to the South African Government over Chabinga’s suggestions to bribe Judges.

Lusaka…………Friday, July 25, 2025( Smart Eagles)

Patriotic Front Chairman Legal Affairs Honorable George Chisanga has cautioned government against downplaying the gravity of a leaked audio recording involving Mafinga Member of Parliament Robert Chabinga and a Cabinet Minister.

Mr Chabinga, a “darling” of the UPND Government is heard in an Audio Recording that has reached the International Media making inflammatory suggestions including potentially bribing judges in a bid to repatriate the remains of former President Edgar Lungu from South Africa.

Speaking at Parliament Media Centre today, Hon Chisanga said the incident risks straining diplomatic ties between Zambia and South Africa.

He said what is cardinal is that the Vice President in Parliament made an admission of what the people in the audio were suggesting to go and do in South Africa.

Hon Chisanga has since urged the UPND Government to issue a statement and possibly apologize to South Africa over Chabinga’s intentions to commit an illegality in that country in order to maintain bilateral relations.

He said what happened is a serious indictment on the Zambian government.

“What are the implications of what Mr Chabinga was doing, Time has come to reflect on what Chabinga has done. It is a dent not only on Government but on Parliament. This is not an everyday story, we must deal with this matter decisively. We are faced with a situation where we have to address ourselves on what we need to do now that it has been laid bare.  That somebody, who ranks very high in the political platform of this country was making inflammatory remarks and suggesting a declaration of intent to go and commit a serious crime in a country where the dispute whether to repatriate the remains of the former President is being considered.

Mr Chabinga is the recognized leader of opposition according to the UPND and not according to ourselves. We have told the nation that keeping Chabinga in that position, is a clear abrogation of the constitution. But facts as they stand now that the person who was declaring an intention to go and commit a crime in South Africa is a President of Faction recognized by the Zambian Government. The country needs to do an introspection led by the UPND Government because their Agent has shown his true character and suggest means of trying to bring the body of the former President including illegal means,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lunte Member of Parliament Hon Mutotwe Kafwaya has charged that the UPND is a bad Government.

Hon Kafwaya said the laws enacted and those the UPND are pushing to enact justifies his claim.

Mr Kafwaya has cited Bill 7, Cyber laws and the Lands and Deeds registry amendment bill number 13 of 2025 which gives power to the chief registrar to cancel any certificate of title as bad for Zambians.

“Bill 7, such a bad constitutional amendment which is affecting the people and the opposition parties in a manner you have never seen. The constitutional court tells them that the process was unconstitutional but they insist on going ahead.  This shows that they are incapable of listening to stakeholders’ advice. We also have the Cyber security Act,

You want to empower the Chief registrar to cancel title deeds.  What is the use of the Court, if a registrar is given that power, what do you want to do. Is it the case of finding minerals somewhere, you want to displace some people without compensation nangu nima plots bapele ma PF and MMD, you want ukubapoka abantu. The UPND have brought bad laws which are against the people, business community. What are you doing for the people?  I have never seen a poor government which dislikes citizens to such extents. You have weakened institutions,” he said.

PLEASE JUST FORGIVE ME, I HAVE SUFFERED ENOUGH- Chilufya  Tayali

PLEASE JUST FORGIVE ME, I HAVE SUFFERED ENOUGH
===============
I feel I have done more than five years of hard Labor in one week, ala mwebantu, I have suffered and humiliated in all possible ways one can think of, especially taking different fingers like an hom0s3xual prost1tute.

At some point I almost thought that these people are trying to change my orientation because almost daily I had to take a finger or two.

I was like… bushe ni training? 😃

I now understand when they say size does not matter because the pain mostly there, one moment you would have this big doctor as if he’s coming from the gym asking you to take that position, it would pain.

Next  you would have another doctor with a medium body but pain doesn’t recognize.

Then you would have this ka young lady Chinese Doctor, my favourite because she is as sharp as a niddle I terms of intelligence, but even a small fingers pains.

Truly sized doesn’t matter especially if they don’t use some lubrication, as they push in.

Yes, I am being humorous, unfortunately that’s the ailment which I think brought all these problems for me to be admitted in the first place.

Taking long journeys either by road or air has never been a problem for me, in terms of stopping for health breaks.

In the cell or remind prison, I would only suffer the smaell of other people’s poo, but you won’t see me sitting on the toilet, because I  am disgusted by unhealthy toilet.

So, what I usually used to do, is to ask for a toilet when for some reasons we go out of the cells, like going to court of interrogations.

At one point I was inside there for 5 days, without going somewhere where I could use a clean toilet.

I believe this problem brought the appendicitis and then it raptured because it was not attended to early enough.

It is still the problem because I’ve been taking light meals but I have not been going to the toilet, actually it is now the condition for my discharge. I need to be able to empty my bowels before I am discharged.

Anywhere  all considered, I am much much better and I should be discharged very soon. I thank you for your prayers and keeping me company here.

SEAN TEMBO URGES TONSE ALLIANCE MEMBERS TO KEEP INTERNAL MATTERS PRIVATE

By  Joseph Kaputula

Tonse Alliance Spokesperson Sean Tembo is urging alliance members to refrain from publicly discussing internal matters.

This follows recent remarks by Zambia Must Prosper – ZMP President Kelvin Fube Bwalya that suggested questioning the leadership of Tonse Alliance Acting Chairman Given Lubinda.

But in an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Tembo has advised party members to avoid using surrogates to attack each other, emphasizing the need for internal cohesion.

Mr. Tembo is, however, confident that the infighting within the alliance will be resolved soon.

Request for Removal from KBN Television Opposition Leadership Survey- Fred Mmembe

Exclude Me Says Fred Mmembe

July 25, 2025

Pastor Kennedy Mambwe,
Chief Executive Officer,
Kenmark Broadcasting Network Limited,
Lusaka

Dear Pastor Mambwe,

Re: Request for Removal from KBN Television Opposition Leadership Survey

I acknowledge receipt of your formal letter dated July 25, 2025, regarding my request to be excluded from the KBN Television Opposition Leadership Survey.

Let me reiterate and clarify that my request to be removed from the said survey is not an indication of withdrawal from the 2026 General Elections, nor does it suggest that I have ceased serving as President of the Socialist Party. I remain actively engaged in the political process and in leading our party’s mission.

My objection is based on principled concerns about the methodology, transparency, and ethical safeguards of your survey.

As a political leader, I have a responsibility to ensure that my name and public image are not associated with processes that may be perceived – rightly or wrongly – as potentially biased, manipulated, or lacking academic rigor.

In the absence of disclosed sampling methods, data protection protocols, or oversight by an independent research body, the inclusion of my name raises significant ethical issues, including the risk of misrepresentation and reputational harm.

In line with best practices for research ethics and media accountability, any public survey should obtain prior informed consent from participants – especially those whose names, likeness, or political affiliations are to be used publicly.

Proceeding otherwise contravenes basic standards of fairness, autonomy, and professional integrity.

Therefore, I respectfully maintain my position that I must be removed from the survey and any related promotional material. Failure to do so would amount to using my identity without consent and could compel further action to safeguard my personal and political rights.

Your cooperation will be highly appreciated. I wish you all the best in your endeavours.

Great thanks!

Yours sincerely,

Fred M’membe
President of the Socialist Party

Leaked Audio on Lungu Burial Was Just a Talk Between Two People Dreaming – Veep

Leaked Audio on Lungu Burial Was Just a Talk Between Two People Dreaming – Veep

Vice President Mutale Nalumango has commented on the recently leaked audio recording that appeared to suggest the bribing of a South African judge in relation to the burial of former President Edgar Lungu. According to Nalumango, the conversation captured in the recording should not be associated with the government.

She described the conversation as merely a discussion between two individuals exploring possible ways to handle the burial situation.

Nalumango’s remarks downplay the significance of the leaked recording, suggesting that it was not a concrete plan or action being implemented by the government.

Instead, she portrayed it as a speculative conversation without any substantial basis or follow-through. This perspective aims to distance the government from any implication in wrongdoing as suggested by the recording.

The leaked audio has been a subject of intense debate and scrutiny, with various stakeholders calling for clarity and accountability.

The controversy has raised questions about the government’s commitment to ethical conduct and the rule of law. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the government will address these concerns and what further actions might be taken.

The Vice President’s comments are part of the government’s response to the allegations and the public outcry that followed the leak.

By characterizing the conversation as mere speculation or “dreaming,” Nalumango seeks to mitigate the impact of the allegations on the government’s reputation. The government’s stance will likely continue to be under scrutiny as more information becomes available.

NALUMANGO DENIES K80,000 PAY FOR EX-VEEPS

VICE President Mutale Nalumango says she is not aware of any former Republican Vice President receiving a monthly salary of K80,000 or other additional benefits.

Mrs. Nalumango has further clarified that there is currently no legislation that mandates government to provide emoluments to former Vice Presidents.

She has however, reiterated that the former Vice Presidents are serving as Presidential envoys under President Hakainde Hichilema.

Mrs. Nalumango said this during the Vice President’s Question Time in the National Assembly, in response to a question raised by Lupososhi Member of Parliament Emmanuel Musonda.

Mr. Musonda had asked whether former Vice Presidents are entitled to monthly salaries of 80 thousand Kwacha and other benefits, outside what is prescribed by law.

I really can’t understand our economic management- Nobert Mumba

I really can’t understand our economic management.

Nobert Mumba Wrote;

1. We close indeni and convert it to receiving refined stock.
2. We also convert the pipeline to stop transporting crude oil to processed diesel and later processed petrol.

3. We announce 20-25 ownership in a refinery in Angola to process crude into finished products for us to benefit from cheaper oil and export of the surplus from the refinery.

4. Then we announce that we will be constructing a big refinery with capacity to process 60,000 litres of crude per day or 9.5m litres which we have no capacity to consume.

The Questions
1. Why did we close Indeni a Zambian asset only to bring in a foreign asset. Why didnt we just call for equity partnership.
2. What will happen to the converted pipeline and the fuel being transported on it as the intended refinery will have capacity to supply Zambias daily needs?
3. What will happen to the benefit we are supposed to derive from the Angola refinery given we will have enough, most likely more expensive, fuel from the new refinery.

4. How do we invest heavily in crude oil refining when we are urged to go electric vehicles?

5. Are we again signing fuel purchase agreements like so-called power purchase agreements that are disadvantaging Zesco

I am baffled and please don’t tell me we will be able to deal with the four without again having to waste money by closing the pipeline or leasing out cheaply the pipeline line. We are obviously cannibalising our own investments to our detriment. What do we really want?

Chabinga’s audio was a suggestion, it’s not government position – Nalumango

That audio was a suggestion, it’s not government position – Nalumango

VICE-PRESIDENT Mutale Nalumango has dismissed bribery allegations surrounding a leaked phone conversation between Cabinet Minister Doreen Mwamba and Mafinga Member of Parliament Robert Chabinga, saying the audio is nothing more than a suggestion and should not be mistaken for government policy.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1GFMgXJyyR/?mibextid=oFDknk

Responding to a question from Mpika MP Francis Kapyanga during the Vice-President’s Question Time in Parliament, Nalumango said the controversial audio clip, which has been circulating widely on social media, does not contain any evidence of the government’s decision to interfere in the case involving late president Edgar Lungu in South Africa.

In the leaked conversation, the two voices, believed to be that of Chabinga and Mwamba, appear to suggest ways of handling the ongoing matter in South Africa, with some interpretations claiming there was talk of bribing a South African judge.

But Nalumango firmly denied the claim, cautioning that social media should not be the foundation for declaring government intent.

“You listen to the conversation on social media, you need to interpret the full story whether it is AI or not,” Nalumango said.

“That audio was a suggestion and all of you have been making suggestions on how to deal with the funeral of our late president.”

She further described the conversation as a private exchange between two individuals speculating or dreaming, not an official stance by the government.

“There’s nowhere in that audio where it says government has decided to go and bribe the judge in South Africa. It is not there,” she added.

The Vice-President also warned against politicising the funeral of the late former president and turning emotional discussions into political weapons…https://kalemba.news/politics/that-audio-was-a-suggestion-its-not-government-position-nalumango/

An Open Letter to President Hakainde Hichilema: A Call for Moral Leadership, Peace, and National Unity

An Open Letter to President Hakainde Hichilema: A Call for Moral Leadership, Peace, and National Unity

Your Excellency, President Hakainde Hichilema,

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

It is with a heavy heart, but with sincere hope for our beloved Zambia, that I write to you as a concerned citizen, a believer, and as one who holds deep conviction in the destiny of this Christian nation.

What is happening in our country today is deeply perplexing and morally troubling. Zambia, once celebrated as a beacon of Christian values, peace, and unity, is now slowly losing her spiritual compass. The question on many lips is: Are we still a Christian nation under your watch?

What is happening in our country today is deeply perplexing and morally troubling. Zambia, once celebrated as a beacon of Christian values, peace, and unity, is now slowly losing her spiritual compass. The question on many lips is: Are we still a Christian nation under your watch?

You often speak about national values enshrined in our Constitution—values that are meant to guide this nation in righteousness, justice, and morality. Yet, under your leadership, we have witnessed a worrying erosion of these very principles:

▪️The disbandment of the *Ministry of National Guidance and Religious Affairs,* which served as a moral compass under the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, was a grave mistake.

▪️The rise of freemasonry practices, obscene content, open tribalism, nepotism, and growing tolerance to LGBTQ advocacy.

▪️ Cadres insulting the memory of our late President, even after death, with no reprimand from the highest office.

▪️ Silence in the face of corruption, economic injustice, and a growing atmosphere of political intimidation.

▪️ Vice President Mutale Nalumango and Home Affairs Minister Hon. Jack Mwiimbu* made deeply disturbing and disrespectful remarks in  Parliament about late President Lungu—statements that shocked many citizens, yet again met with complete silence and no guidance from the Head of State.

Your silence, Mr. President, has been louder than words. In times when leadership is expected to stand above partisan pettiness and uphold moral dignity, especially in honour of a departed predecessor, the lack of rebuke or restraint has only deepened wounds and national division.

We recall how, as an SDA elder and national leader, you once vowed to be the number one Ambassador for Zambia. But in moments where your voice is needed the most—such as the leaked audio involving Robert Chabinga and senior intelligence officials, your silence has only deepened public suspicion and grief.

Your predecessor, President Lungu, despite criticism, stood firm in matters of faith and moral clarity. He boldly  rejected foreign pressure advocating for LGBTQ rights, standing instead with the values of our people and the Word of God. His courage was not weakness, but spiritual strength.

Sir, let this letter not be seen as condemnation, but as a *national and spiritual* appeal for reflection. The burden of leadership is sacred. God has entrusted you with the lives and souls of millions. And leadership without righteousness invites judgment.

Let us be reminded of the scripture in *2 Chronicles 7:14:*

” _If My people, who are called by My Name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

This is our cry as citizens. That you, Mr. President, may help this country return to moral ground, to repentance, and to peace. In that spirit, we call your attention to *Acts 2:38,* which outlines five principles that can guide not only individuals but entire nations to restoration

*The Five Pillars from Acts 2:38 – A Path to National Healing*

1. *Repentance – “Repent”*

True change begins with genuine repentance. This is not just a political apology, but a heartfelt turning away from all that is wrong—be it tribal division, corruption, or bloodshed. As a nation, we must fall on our knees and confess our moral decay. You, Mr. President, must lead by example.

2. *Responsibility – “Be baptized every one of you”*

Each citizen, each leader, must take responsibility. Baptism represents a public acknowledgment and personal commitment to change. Zambia needs leaders who are not just baptized in ceremony, but in responsibility and conscience.

3. *Redemption – “In the name of Jesus Christ”*

Let us return to Christ—not in mere slogans, but in action. Our constitution declares us a Christian nation. Let our policies, our speech, our treatment of the opposition and the vulnerable reflect the character of Christ: mercy, justice, and truth.

4. *Remission – “For the remission of sins”*

Only when we acknowledge our national and leadership sins can we receive healing. Let there be open forgiveness—not vengeance—in our political and national dealings. Release the bitterness, settle differences, and reconcile across all regions and parties.

5. *Renewal – “And ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost”*

God promises us the power to rebuild when we submit to His will. Let the Holy Spirit renew this land, our institutions, our leaders, and our people. Let this be the dawn of a Zambia healed by faith, not broken by politics.

*Mr. President, it is not too late.*

Bring back the *Ministry of Religious Affairs,* not as a political tool, but as a symbol of moral restoration. Embrace the *18th of October, our Day of National Prayer*, not as a day of mockery, but as an anchor for this nation’s spiritual revival.

Reclaim the motto: ” *One Zambia, One Nation”.* Let every tribe and political party find a place in your administration. *Speak boldly against moral decay* . *Preach peace not only in words but in action.* Restore the dignity of leadership and the fear of God in our national affairs.

*Like King David* , may you humble yourself before God and lead *this country with wisdom, humility, and righteousness.*

*Zambia still believes. We still pray. And we still hope.*

*God bless Zambia. God bless the Presidency.*

✝ *With Christian love and national concern,*

HH TO PARTICIPATE IN SIXTH AU C-10 SUMMIT TO ADVANCE AFRICA’S DEMAND FOR UN SECURITY COUNCIL REFORM

HH TO PARTICIPATE IN SIXTH AU C-10 SUMMIT TO ADVANCE AFRICA’S DEMAND FOR UN SECURITY COUNCIL REFORM

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

President Hakainde Hichilema is set to participate in the sixth summit of the African Union Committee of Ten Heads of State and Government, a high-level virtual gathering aimed at advancing Africa’s long-standing demand for reform of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

The summit will be chaired by President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone, who serves as the current coordinator of the C-10. Discussions will center on the common African position, which calls for two permanent seats for Africa on the UNSC, complete with veto power, as outlined in the Ezulwini Consensus and the Sirte Declaration.

The meeting will also consider outcomes from the 13th ministerial meeting of the AU C-10, hosted by Zambia in Lusaka from June 3–5, 2025.

The gathering reaffirms Africa’s unified stance and strategic roadmap for equitable representation on the Security Council.

President Hichilema has reiterated Zambia’s unwavering commitment to working with fellow AU member states to push for a fairer, more democratic global governance system, where Africa’s voice is not only heard but meaningfully represented.

The summit will further review progress made since the adoption of the Pact for the Future at the 2024 UN General Assembly, which injected fresh momentum into Africa’s reform agenda. Key documents including the Lusaka Ministerial Outcome Document and the AU Model on UNSC Reform will guide deliberations ahead of the UNGA high-level week in September 2025.

MALAWI ANALYST QUESTIONS MUTHARIKA’S FITNESS FOR PRESIDENCY AHEAD OF SEPTEMBER ELECTION

MALAWI ANALYST QUESTIONS MUTHARIKA’S FITNESS FOR PRESIDENCY AHEAD OF SEPTEMBER ELECTION

By: Mbc Digital

A prominent political analyst in Malawi, Lyson Sibande, has raised concerns over the readiness and physical fitness of Professor Peter Mutharika, the presidential candidate for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), ahead of the country’s upcoming September 16, 2025 election.

Speaking to local media, Sibande noted that Mutharika—who previously served as Malawi’s President from 2014 to 2020—appeared overwhelmed and struggled to respond to basic questions from journalists after submitting his nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) in the capital, Lilongwe.

Sibande criticized the DPP’s decision to field the 84-year-old former president, describing it as regrettable given what he termed as “visible physical frailty.” He argued that such signs suggest Mutharika may not be in the best condition to effectively lead the nation if
re-elected.

IMF Executive Board Concludes 2025 Article IV Consultation and Completes Fifth Review Under the Extended Credit Facility with Zambia

IMF Executive Board Concludes 2025 Article IV Consultation and Completes Fifth Review Under the Extended Credit Facility with Zambia

July 25, 2025

Listen with Speechify
The IMF Executive Board concluded the 2025 Article IV consultation and completed the fifth review under the 38-month Extended Credit Facility (ECF) Arrangement, providing immediate access to about US$184 million.

Program performance has remained broadly satisfactory. All end-December 2024 quantitative performance criteria and most indicative targets for end-March 2025 were met. Six out of fourteen structural benchmarks were met for this review, and four were completed with delays.

The authorities remain committed to maintaining macroeconomic stability, sustaining social spending, and restoring fiscal and debt sustainability, while advancing structural and governance reforms to foster growth.

Washington, DC: The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) completed the Article IV Consultation and fifth review of Zambia’s 38-month Extended Credit Facility (ECF) Arrangement, approved on August 31, 2022, and financing assurances review for Zambia.[1] The completion of this review allows for an immediate disbursement of SDR 139.88 million (about US$184 million), bringing Zambia’s total disbursement under the ECF-supported program to SDR 1132.74 million (about US$1.55 billion). The ECF Arrangement seeks to entrench macroeconomic stability, restore debt and fiscal sustainability, enhance public governance, and foster inclusive growth to improve the livelihood of the Zambian people.

Program performance has been broadly satisfactory, with all end-December 2024 quantitative targets and most end-March 2025 indicative targets met. Three end-March 2025 indicative targets—on non-mining tax revenues, arrears clearance, and reserve accumulation—were missed. Six out of fourteen structural benchmarks (SBs) for this review were met, four were completed with delays, and the remainder four SBs on debt office procedures, along with financial sector and governance reforms, were proposed to be reset to the next review. The recent adoption of an amended 2025 budget in line with the program commitments satisfies the prior action set for this review. The Executive Board also granted a waiver for nonobservance of the continuous performance criterion on contracting non-concessional external debt in the fourth quarter of 2024.

With the effects of the historic drought receding, Zambia’s economic outlook remains positive. Real GDP growth is estimated at 4 percent in 2024, underpinned by stronger mining and services performance as electricity access was prioritized to productive sectors. Real GDP growth in 2025 is projected at 5.8 percent on the back of continued recovery in agricultural production in the wake of the drought and continued strong performance in mining and services. Headline inflation is expected to gradually decline, to 11 percent by end-2025. The outlook is subject to significant downside risks stemming from global uncertainty. Medium-term prospects hinge on scaling up mining investment, sustained fiscal discipline, and structural reforms to promote private sector activity, economic diversification, and more inclusive growth.

Zambia’s public debt is assessed as sustainable, but the country remains at high risk of overall and external debt distress. The authorities have reached agreements in principle with most external commercial creditors, and efforts are ongoing to advance bilateral agreements with official bilateral creditors, in line with program parameters and comparability of treatment as defined by the Official Creditors Committee. Although Zambia is at a high risk of debt distress because of near-term breaches of the DSA thresholds, it is expected to reach a moderate risk of external debt distress over the medium term.

The authorities have consented to the publication of the Staff Report prepared for this consultation[2]

Following the Executive Board discussion, Ms. Gita Gopinath, First Deputy Managing Director and Chair of the Board, issued the following statement:

“Economic policies have helped stabilize Zambia’s economy, which proved more resilient than initially envisaged to the impact of a historic drought in 2024. Agricultural, mining and services activity has rebounded strongly, notwithstanding the still limited supply of and access to electricity, while inflation has begun to moderate. Program performance remains broadly satisfactory, and the authorities are continuing to advance structural and governance reforms, albeit with some delays.

“Fiscal consolidation, prudent monetary policy and further reserve accumulation, exchange rate flexibility, and sound financial policies remain crucial for safeguarding macro-financial stability and building resilience against shocks.

“The fiscal path envisaged in the revised 2025 budget will support restoring fiscal and debt sustainability. To this end, progress in enhancing revenue mobilization and strengthening spending efficiency and transparency remain critical to generating much needed fiscal space and supporting the country’s medium-term growth and development objectives.

“Zambia’s public debt is assessed as sustainable but remains at high risk of overall and external debt distress. Agreements in principle have been reached with the vast majority of external commercial creditors, and efforts are ongoing to advance bilateral agreements with official bilateral creditors, in line with program parameters. Zambia is expected to reach a moderate risk of external debt distress over the medium term.

The Bank of Zambia should continue to act to bring inflation to a downward path, which is key to preserving the credibility of its inflation targeting framework. Reserve accumulation and sustained exchange rate flexibility would help address future external shocks.

“Governance and structural reforms remain vital for promoting private sector activity, economic diversification, and inclusive growth. LEADERSHIP MOVEMENT (LM) CALLS FOR A COLLECTIVE ACTION AGAINST MORAL DECAY, PLEAS TO RESTORE ZAMBIA’S CHRISTIAN VALUE

LEADERSHIP MOVEMENT (LM) CALLS FOR A COLLECTIVE ACTION AGAINST MORAL DECAY, PLEAS TO RESTORE ZAMBIA’S CHRISTIAN VALUES

_25 – July – 2025 Friday._

The Spike in the drop in national morality in our society is disheartening.

Zambia is  witnessing a troubling decline in moral standards within the society, marked by the rampant production and distribution of pornographic materials. This disturbing trend transcends age boundaries, encompassing not only our youth but adults, and shockingly even members of the clergy. As a political party founded on the principles of integrity and ethical conduct, the Leadership Movement (LM) is compelled to address this urgent issue.

Zambia, a nation proudly rooted in its Christian values, now faces a moral crisis that threatens the very fabric of our society. The erosion of decency and respect for human dignity is alarming and disheartening. It is our duty as responsible citizens, leaders, and guardians of our moral heritage to take a stand against these detrimental influences that undermine our community and our shared values.

We seriously and urgently so urge the Church, along with its mother bodies, civil society organisation CSO’s to take a proactive stance in condemning the vice of pornography in all its forms. The church has a vital role to play in guiding moral conduct and reinforcing the principles that define us as a Christian nation. We call upon our spiritual leaders to be vocal advocates against this cultural decay, providing support and education to congregants on the adverse effects of such materials on individuals, families, and society at large.

Furthermore, we implore the Government of Zambia to strengthen legislative frameworks and collaborate with community organizations to combat the proliferation of pornographic content. Public awareness campaigns and educational programs must be prioritized to enlighten our citizens about the moral, psychological, and social harms associated with this vice.

In conclusion, every well-meaning Zambian citizen has a role to play in fostering a culture of respect, responsibility, and moral integrity. Together, let us rise to the challenge and reclaim our values, ensuring our beloved nation remains a beacon of hope, decency, and faith for generations to come.

Together, we can effect change and restore our moral compass.

France’s top court annuls arrest warrant against Bashar al-Assad

France’s highest court has annulled a French arrest warrant issued in 2023 against Syria’s former president Bashar al-Assad over his alleged involvement in deadly chemical attacks in 2013.

The Court of Cassation ruled on Friday that Assad, who was still a sitting head of state at the time the warrant was issued, enjoyed full presidential immunity under international law even in cases involving alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.

However, the court noted that the situation had changed since Assad’s ouster in December 2024, when Islamist-led rebel groups took control of Syria, effectively ending his decades-long regime.

Presiding judge Christophe Soulard clarified that while the original warrant was annulled due to his immunity at the time, “new arrest warrants can have been, or can be, issued against him,” since he is no longer protected by presidential immunity.

The annulled warrant had accused Assad of complicity in the sarin gas attacks that killed more than 1,000 people on August 4 and 5, 2013, in the towns of Adra and Douma near Damascus. The investigation launched under the principle of universal jurisdiction was built on survivor testimonies, defector accounts, and video evidence. It had also targeted Assad’s brother Maher and two Syrian generals.

French prosecutors originally challenged the warrant, citing Assad’s immunity as a head of state. But the Paris Court of Appeal upheld the warrant in June 2024, prompting another appeal that led to the annulment decision.

Despite the setback for human rights advocates who had hoped the court would make an exception due to the gravity of the allegations, the case remains open. In January 2025, French magistrates issued a second warrant against Assad for suspected complicity in a 2017 bombing in Deraa that killed a French-Syrian civilian.

The Court of Cassation also made a distinction between “personal immunity,” which shields sitting heads of state, and “functional immunity,” granted to state officials for their roles. It ruled that functional immunity can be lifted for severe crimes such as war crimes, upholding a separate indictment of Syria’s former central bank governor Adib Mayaleh — now a French citizen — for allegedly funding Assad’s war efforts.

Assad and his family are believed to have fled to Russia following his ouster. Syria’s civil war, which began in 2011, has claimed over 500,000 lives and displaced millions. His fall on December 8, 2024, ended nearly 50 years of Assad family rule.

25-year-old rapper NBA Youngboy set to have 13th child

NBA YoungBoy is set to surpass Nick Cannon as one of the most prolific fathers in hip-hop, revealing on his new album that he is expecting his 13th child, his third with wife Jazlyn.

The 25-year-old Louisiana rapper dropped his latest project, Make America Slime Again, on Friday. In the track “If You Need Me,” YoungBoy offers a personal glimpse into his life, rapping, “When I f***, she want me to pull her hair / Me and Jaz on our 3rd kid!!!”

The album also features the high-energy track “XXX,” where YoungBoy pays tribute to former President Donald Trump, whom he refers to as “my president.” The rapper’s shoutout comes amid his past pardon from Trump in May, which cleared various charges that had accumulated early in his career.

YoungBoy’s MASA tour is scheduled to begin in September, sparking speculation among fans that he might use the platform to support his incarcerated opening act, EBK Jaaybo.

Key file mysteriously goes missing in Bushiri extradition case

Key file mysteriously goes missing in Bushiri extradition case

The high-profile extradition case of Malawian preacher Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary, has hit another roadblock as key court documents have mysteriously gone missing, delaying proceedings in the Lilongwe High Court.

The couple, wanted in South Africa on charges of fraud, money laundering, and rape, are appealing a lower court’s March 2025 ruling that ordered their extradition under the SADC Protocol.

Bushiri’s legal team, led by Wapona Kita, claims the disappearance of these documents is no mere clerical error but a deliberate attempt to obstruct justice.

“The missing files are critical to the appeal process,” Kita told reporters, suggesting the incident could halt the extradition entirely.

The court has postponed the hearing,  to September, pending the recovery or reproduction of the documents.

Former Congolese president on trial Joseph Kabila for treason

BREAKING NEWS – FORMER DR CONGO PRESIDENT FACES TREASON AND MURDER CHARGES OVER M23 REBEL TIES

Former Democratic Republic of Congo president Joseph Kabila has gone on trial for treason and murder, in a case that has rocked the nation’s political and military establishment. The 53-year-old is accused of backing the notorious M23 rebel group, which has been blamed for atrocities in the country’s conflict-ridden eastern region.

Kabila, who governed the mineral-rich country for 18 years after taking over from his assassinated father, Laurent Kabila, in 2001, has denied all charges. He claims the case is a politically motivated attack designed to silence him and tarnish his legacy.

The trial begins amid ongoing clashes in eastern Congo, despite a recently declared ceasefire. Analysts say the timing of the proceedings could further destabilize the region and deepen divisions in the fragile political landscape.

Kabila stepped down in 2019 following a highly disputed election that saw Félix Tshisekedi take office. The transition, once hailed as historic, soon gave way to a bitter rift between the two leaders, setting the stage for what many now see as a politically charged prosecution with wide-reaching implications for peace and justice in the DRC.

Mutharika Picks Jane Ansah as Running Mate for September 16 Election

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader and former President Arthur Peter Mutharika has officially named former Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah as his running mate for the upcoming September 16 presidential election.

The announcement was made today at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, where Mutharika submitted his nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).

The choice of Ansah ends weeks of speculation, with names such as Bright Msaka, Rosa Mbilidzi, and Alfred Gangata previously rumored to be under consideration.

The public had eagerly awaited the reveal of Mutharika’s running mate, a topic that had generated intense interest.

Meanwhile, MEC Elections Chief Andrew Mpesi assured the public that the commission would strictly adhere to the law in managing the electoral process.

Independent presidential hopeful Milward Tobias is also expected to submit his nomination later in the day.

VIDEO: Hulk Hogan was baptised with his wife 18 months before his sudden de@th

Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan publicly committed himself to the Christian faith just a year and a half before his unexpected death the age of 71.

In December 2023, the WWE Hall of Famer was baptized alongside his wife.

“Total surrender and dedication to Jesus is the greatest day of my life,” Hulk Hogan said in reaction to his baptism. “No worries, no hate, no judgment… only love!”

A video from the baptism shows Hogan being fully immersed in a pool, then emerging with a broad smile, still wearing his signature bandana.

It was a joyful and emotional scene as he shared the experience with his wife, Sky Daily, who was baptized alongside him.

“God is doing amazing things at Indian Rocks,” the church wrote while sharing Hogan’s baptism on Instagram.

Hulk Hogan was baptised with his wife 18 months before his sudden de@th (video)

Prior to his baptism, the six-time WWE champion previously proclaimed his Christian beliefs in public.

Earlier in 2023, Hogan tweeted about his religious journey and how he accepted Christ as a teenager.

“I accepted Christ as my savior at 14-years-old and the training, prayers and vitamins kept me in the game but now that I am one with God, the main event theme of surrender, service and love makes me the Real Main Event that can slam any giant of any size through the power of my Lord and Savior and so it is, even now brother, AMEN!” Hogan shared on X (Twitter) in April.

The baptism came not long after Hogan and Daily tied the knot in September 2023.

Ghislaine Maxwell seen carrying mystery box into prison after secret meeting with Trump’s DOJ

0

Disgraced socialite, Ghislaine Maxwell was spotted returning to prison with a box of materials after she was interrogated by President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice over her association with former lover Jeffrey Epstein.

According to Mail Online, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche flew down to Florida to meet in person with the convicted child s£x trafficking offender as the MAGA base demands answers on her knowledge of Epstein’s crimes.

Maxwell’s attorney David Markus revealed that she answered every question asked of her during the marathon interview that lasted all day.

She was later spotted returning to prison in Tallahassee, Florida, with a box of materials as she re-entered prison, in footage obtained by WCTV.

The footage came out as Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche announced he would question Maxwell again on Friday.

‘Today, I met with Ghislaine Maxwell, and I will continue my interview of her tomorrow. The Department of Justice will share additional information about what we learned at the appropriate time,’ Blanche wrote on social media.

Maxwell took the ‘full day and asked a lot of questions,’ Markus said.

‘Miss Maxwell answered every single question. She never stopped. She never invoked a privilege. She never declined to answer. She answered all the questions truthfully, honestly, and to the best of her ability.’

Maxwell, 63, is currently serving a 20-year sentence at a low-security prison in Tallahassee and is the only person serving time behind bars for Jeffrey Epstein’s child s£x crimes.

It comes as Trump’s DOJ remains embroiled in controversy for failing to put out the full Epstein-related files.

It’s unclear what Maxwell can reveal that isn’t already public, and the closed-door meeting is fueling skepticism over the handling of the Epstein files review.

Maxwell is also on the books to testify before Congress on August 11.

Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal (Conn.) said the meeting is a way for the administration to ‘secure a cover-up.’

The Connecticut senator said that Blanche is conducting a ‘secret meeting’ in order to strike a ‘secret deal giving her potentially a pardon for providing information favorable to Trump.’

Maxwell has already made clear her intent to get her prison sentence absolved.

Her lawyers asked the Supreme Court to take up her case, arguing the socialite should have never been charged because of a plea deal Epstein struck in 2008.

‘President Trump has told us to release all credible evidence,’ Blanche said in a statement posted to X by Bondi. ‘If Ghislane Maxwell has information about anyone who has committed crimes against victims, the FBI and the DOJ will hear what she has to say.’

Maxwell’s attorney David Oscar Markus told CNN the team is in discussions to have her tell her side of the story.

‘I can confirm that we are in discussions with the government and that Ghislaine will always testify truthfully,’ Markus said. ‘We are grateful to President Trump for his commitment to uncovering the truth in this case.’

UK Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch says Argentinian president would be the ‘template’ for her government

0

Leader of the United Kingdom’s Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, has expressed admiration for Argentina’s President Javier Milei, saying she aspires to emulate his approach to dramatically reducing the size of the state.

The Conservative leader described Javier Milei as ‘the template’ as she praised his honesty with voters and ability to deliver results.

In his election campaign in 2023, Mr Milei gained fame for wielding a chainsaw, promising to dramatically cut state spending in his country.

Asked whether the UK needed its own Milei and whether she herself fit that role, Badenoch, whose party is languishing in third place in the polls, said: “Yes and yes.”

In an interview with the Financial Times, Badenoch said Milei would be the “template” for her government. She said the Conservatives “cannot be a repository for disenchantment” and must be about “offering hope”, unlike Nigel Farage’s Reform UK.

But she admitted that “the public are not yet ready to forgive” the Tories after the political chaos of the last few years and that Reform was “stealing everyone’s oxygen”.

Badenoch argued the public would eventually tire of Farage’s “bullshitting” and claimed he was positioning his party to the left of the Conservatives on issues such as benefits.

She said her own programme, which she is under pressure to set out in more detail, would be “not about cutting bits of the state” but rather “looking at what the state does, why it does it”.

Badenoch dismissed warnings that she may face a Conservative leadership challenge within months amid internal discontent about her leadership.

“I can’t spend all my time worrying about regicide. I would lose my mind,” she told the newspaper. “I’m so thick-skinned to the point where I don’t even notice if people are trying to create harm. That’s extremely useful in this job.”

Divorced father found de@d surrounded by more than 100 empty bottles of beer

A divorced father-of-one was found de@d by his son, surrounded by more than 100 empty bottles after drinking only beer for a month.

Thaweesak Namwongsa, 44, from Ban Chang district of Rayong, Thailand, suffered a seizure and passed away before paramedics could save him.

The divorcee had refused in the month before his de@th, choosing instead to only drink beer.

He was discovered in his room by his 16-year-old son, who had been living with him since his parents divorced.

The teenager revealed he had tried to feed his father, cooking hot meals every day, but Mr Namwongsa refused to eat.

The youngster told police that he came home from school one day and found his father unconscious after suffering a seizure.

Rescue workers from the Siam Rayong Foundation were called to a house in the Ban Chang district of Rayong, Thailand, but by the time they arrived, Mr Namwongsa had tragically d!ed.

Paramedics found more than 100 empty beer bottles littering the floor of the father-of-one’s bedroom with narrow paths laid out to allow the father to get in and out of bed.

His son explained that he had started to drink heavily after his divorce.

Mr Namwongsa’s cause of de@th is yet to be confirmed.

An autopsy is set to be performed on the body later this week but officials believe that excessive alcohol consumption is likely to have contributed to his tragic death.

Trump says he ‘has the power’ to pardon socialite Ghislaine Maxwell

U.S. President Donald Trump has spoken about the prospect of pardoning Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell for s£x trafficking underage girls.

Epstein’s former lover is serving 20 years in prison for her involvement in Epstein’s sordid crimes.

And Trump has refused to rule out whether he’d use his sweeping pardon powers to pardon Maxwell.

When asked about the matter, Trump responded: ‘I’m allowed to do it, but it’s something I haven’t thought about,’ he added.

There have been questions about whether Trump would use his presidential power to pardon her or commute her sentence.

Maxwell is serving a 20-year prison sentence for her role in conspiring with Epstein to s£xually abuse minors. She was convicted in 2021 on five counts related to s£x trafficking and conspiracy.

Last week, the White House quickly slapped down suggestions that Trump is seriously considering letting Maxwell off the hook.

‘There have been no discussions or consideration of a pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell, and there never will be,’ a senior White House official said.

Trump’s comment comes as Maxwell, the only person currently behind bars for Jeffrey Epstein’s child sex trafficking ring, is having a second day of meetings with the Justice Department.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche flew down to Florida for an in-person sit-down as Trump’s MAGA base demands answers on her knowledge of Epstein’s crimes amid claims of a ‘cover-up.’

Maxwell’s attorney, David Markus, said she answered every question asked of her during the marathon interview that lasted all day on Thursday. She is meeting Blanche again on Friday.

Maxwell took the ‘full day and asked a lot of questions,’ he said.

‘Miss Maxwell answered every single question. She never stopped. She never invoked a privilege. She never declined to answer. She answered all the questions truthfully, honestly and to the best of her ability.’

She was seen returning to prison after the marathon meeting, carrying a mystery box of items.

Zanu–PF warns South Africa against US sanctions

Zanu–PF warns South Africa against US sanctions

Zimbabwe’s ruling party (ZANU–PF) says South Africa should not be intimidated by a proposed US bill that could empower President Donald Trump with “superpowers” to impose sanctions on African National Congress (ANC) leaders.

ZANU–PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa said the United States should not “misdirect itself” in its diplomatic relations with South Africa.

“These issues could be resolved without resorting to sanctions. But if America decides to go its own way, so be it – we’ve had over two decades of experience dealing with sanctions,” Mutsvangwa said.

He made the comments on Friday at the ANC’s 2025 Liberation Movements Summit in Kempton Park.

He said the US’ previous sanctions on Zimbabwe had not derailed the country’s progress.

“They have not stopped Zimbabwe from making progress. On the contrary, we are now potentially the most dynamic economy on the African continent,” Mutsvangwa told Newzroom Afrika.

“Who would have thought that Zimbabwe would now be developing a third-world steel industry – one that even America might look at with a bit of jealousy?”

Last year, the US imposed sanctions on Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, accusing him of serious human rights violations after his disputed victory in the 2023 elections.

Relations between Washington and Harare have been strained for more than 20 years.

The US initially imposed economic and travel sanctions on Zimbabwe in the early 2000s, targeting the late President Robert Mugabe and several senior government officials, accusing them of eroding democratic principles.

However, on March 4, 2024, former President Joe Biden officially ended the US sanctions program against Zimbabwe, lifting restrictions on all previously sanctioned individuals, entities, and assets under that policy.

He encouraged South Africa to view the situation from a more optimistic perspective.

“Don’t worry about being pushed around by superpowers. We’ve travelled that road before. We share experiences, and we have the resources anyway,” he added.

This comes after reports that the US Congressman Ronny Jackson introduced the US and South Africa Bilateral Relations Review Act of 2025, a bill that could sanction ANC leaders for allegedly supporting US adversaries, including China, Russia and Iran.

On Thursday, President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the issue while visiting BMW South Africa.

“We’ve heard what has happened in the House Committee, but the process still has a long way to go,” Ramaphosa said.

“Our bilateral dealings and engagements with the United States will continue, and we’ll talk about all manner of things – including this issue.”

Ramaphosa added that South Africa values its diplomatic relations with the US and hopes to strengthen them through continued dialogue.

“We are very positive that the outcome of our engagements with the United States will be comprehensive and all-encompassing, so we can return to good deals with the United States,” he said.

IOL News previously reported that the ANC said it is pinning its hopes on Democrats in the US Congress, particularly those who supported the anti-apartheid movement, to block the bill.

“There are many Democrats, including those who were part of the anti-apartheid movements, who will stand up to caution Americans against supporting a president who wants to censor and undermine the sovereignty of other nations,” said ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri.

Bengu-Motsiri said the ANC will vigorously oppose any attempt to isolate it through renewed sanctions.

“Remember, we come from a history where sanctions were imposed against the apartheid system,” she said. “The ANC was also isolated by countries that worked closely with the apartheid regime, including the United States.”

The bill, which was passed through the House Foreign Affairs and Judiciary Committees, will now be presented before the full US House of Representatives for a vote.

Zim Govt Addresses Viral Statement Naming Ambrose Mutinhiri New Vice President Replacing Mohadi

Govt Addresses Viral Statement Naming Ambrose Mutinhiri New Vice President

The Zimbabwean government has poured cold water on a viral statement falsely claiming that Ambassador and retired Brigadier General Ambrose Mutinhiri has been appointed as the country’s new Vice President.

According to the statement doing the rounds on social media, Mutinhiri was allegedly replacing Vice President Kembo Mohadi, who was said to have retired due to ill health. But government spokesperson Nick Mangwana says there’s no truth to it and he’s urging the public not to fall for such poorly disguised misinformation.

Mangwana Points Out Major Red Flag
Mangwana took to his verified X account on Friday to poke fun at the fake statement and explain why it clearly wasn’t official. He drew attention to one glaring mistake: the statement quoted the wrong section of the Constitution.

According to him, Section 205(1), the one used in the statement, has absolutely nothing to do with appointing Vice Presidents. In fact, it deals with Permanent Secretaries.

“SPOT THE FAKE Learn to check out things. Inga makafunda wani. The information is a fingertip away. Section 205 (1) of the Constitution is about Permanent Secretaries. 😅”

Presidential spokesperson George Charamba didn’t hold back either. He questioned why someone would go out of their way to create and circulate such a bogus statement. In his usual fiery tone, Charamba warned that spreading fake news online has consequences.

“WHEN A FULL GROWN UP HUMAN BEING SPENDS TIME COMPOSING SUCH COUNTERFEIT MESSAGE, THEY HOPE TO ACHIEVE WHAT???? THIS FRAUDULENT MISUSE OF SOCIAL MEDIA TO PEDDLE LIES ATTRACTS CONSEQUENCES. TAMEDZERERA ZVAKWANA!!!!!”

Press Statement Announcing Mutinhiri As New Vice President

The fake statement, complete with official-sounding language and a detailed summary of Mutinhiri’s career, appeared to be crafted to look legitimate. It claimed that President Mnangagwa had made the appointment in recognition of Mutinhiri’s long-standing loyalty to the ruling ZANU-PF party.

You can read the full fake press statement below:

APPOINTMENT OF AMBASSADOR RTD. ARMY BRIGADIER GENERAL AMBROSE MUTINHIRI AS THE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZIMBABWE.

  1. His Excellency the President has, in terms of Section 205(1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 20) Act 2013, has hereby appointed Ambassador Rtd. Army Brigadier General Ambrose Mutinhiri as the Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe.
  2. Ambassador Ambrose Mutinhiri takes over from Rtd. Col. Hounorable Kembo C. Mohadi who has been retired from the Vice Presidency’s position due to ill health.
  3. Ambassador Mutinhiri is a dedicated Zimbabwean politician who has served as Ambassador to Yugoslavia during its days, Minister of Youth Development and Employment Creation in Zimbabwe and had also been Member of Parliament for a long time. He is a loyal member of the ruling Zimbabwe African Union Patriotic Front (ZANU (PF) for decades.
  4. Ambassador Mutinhiri had been appointed the Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Russia but this recent appointment by the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr. Emmerson Mnangagwa has proved that Ambassador Ambrosed Mutinhiri showcased his loyalty to the party and country beyond proven doubt and has continued to have influence in the Zimbabwean politics and beyond.

Government wishes him all the best in his recent appointment.

Musk’s exit from politics is already leaving some Republicans in ‘straits’

Elon Musk’s decision to leave electoral politics behind is already causing headaches for some Republicans, according to a new report.

Musk announced in May that his time in politics had come to an end. The announcement followed multiple tumultuous months of power-wrangling between Musk and President Donald Trump. Even though the billionaire spent more than $250 million to help Trump and other Republicans get elected, he has since said that he isn’t supporting any candidates in the primaries.

Trump has also threatened retaliation against Musk if he does start spending money against Republican candidates.

Some expected Musk’s exit to be unceremonious, but it has proved otherwise for Republicans in the Virginia Governor’s race, Politico reported on Thursday.

Jonathan Martin, Politico’s senior political columnist, noted that Democratic candidates for Governor of Virginia currently hold a three-to-one cash advantage over Republicans. Democratic former Rep. Abigail Spanberger has raised about $14.5 million compared to Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears’ $3.5 million.

This is happening at a time when the Virginia Republican Party’s top politician, Glenn Youngkin, is term-limited and cannot seek re-election. Republicans were also unable to hold onto their majorities in the state House of Delegates and the state Senate while Youngkin was in office.

Martin said these challenges have put some down-ballot Republicans in “straits.”

“Democrats in the commonwealth earlier this year were bracing for an influx of the tech billionaire’s money into Virginia, where there are no caps on giving, but the Musk moolah has yet to appear,” Martin wrote.

“Just as significant, Youngkin, a multi-millionaire, has yet to infuse the Virginia ticket with significant personal money or contributions from his political action committee,” the report continued.

DR Congo’s $80 billion Grand Inga Dam hydroelectric dam will be the largest hydroelectric dam in the world

DR Congo’s $80 billion Grand Inga Dam hydroelectric dam will be the largest hydroelectric dam in the world, enough to power over 40% of Africa.

It will produce over 40,000 megawatts of electricity.

It will be the largest hydroelectric power station in the world, surpassing China’s Three Gorges Dam.

If fully built, it could power over 40% of Africa, supplying electricity across countries from South Africa to Nigeria and even potentially to southern Europe.

The Grand Inga Dam is planned on the Congo River, near the existing Inga I and II dams.

The UK, France and Germany have released a joint statement stating the “time has come to end the war in Gaza”

The time has come to end the war in Gaza

We urge all parties to bring an end to the conflict by reaching an immediate ceasefire. We call for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages who have been held captive by Hamas since October 7, 2023.

A negotiated ceasefire is the best chance to bring the hostages home, end the anguish of their families and finally bring relief to the civilian population in Gaza. The disarmament of Hamas is imperative, and Hamas must have no role in the future of Gaza. We reaffirm our commitment to supporting the diplomatic efforts of the United States, Qatar and Egypt.

The humanitarian catastrophe that we are witnessing in Gaza must end now. The most basic needs of the civilian population, including access to water and food, must be met without any further delay. Withholding essential humanitarian assistance to the civilian population is unacceptable.

We call on the Israeli Government to immediately lift restrictions on the flow of aid and urgently allow the UN and humanitarian NGOs to carry out their work in order to take action against starvation. Israel must uphold its obligations under international humanitarian law.

We firmly oppose all efforts to impose Israeli sovereignty over the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Threats of annexation, settlements and acts of settler violence against Palestinians undermine the prospects for a negotiated two-state solution.

We are committed to working together with our international partners including at the United Nations to develop a specific and credible plan for the next phase in Gaza that will put in place transitional governance and security arrangements, and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid at scale. This must be accompanied by the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the removal of Hamas leadership, as key steps towards a negotiated two-state solution.

We stand ready to take further action to support an immediate ceasefire and a political process that leads to lasting security and peace for Israelis, Palestinians and the entire region.

SPEAKER DIRECTS TASILA LUNGU TO REPORT TO PARLIAMENT WITHIN 14 DAYS AFTER FATHER’S BURIAL

SPEAKER DIRECTS TASILA LUNGU TO REPORT TO PARLIAMENT WITHIN 14 DAYS AFTER FATHER’S BURIAL

By Raphael Mulenga

Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti has directed Chawama Member of Parliament Tasila Lungu in absentia to present herself to the speaker’s office or the house within 14 days after her father’s burial or within 14 days of the opening of the fifth session of the 13th National Assembly.

The directive comes after Ms. Lungu requested a leave of absence to attend to court proceedings in South Africa related to her late father’s burial.

Delivering a ruling on a point of order raised by Zambezi East Member of Parliament Brian Kambita who wanted to find out if the house was in order to continue recognizing Ms. Lungu as MP when there were indications that the Lungu family had no intentions of coming back to Zambia, Ms. Mutti acknowledged the challenging circumstances surrounding the former president’s death and the need for Ms. Lungu to mourn and bury her father.

However, Ms. Mutti also emphasized the importance of representing the people of Chawama constituency.

She noted that negotiations between government and the Lungu family are ongoing to resolve the matter outside of court and expressed hope for an amicable solution.

And Ms. Mutti says the issue of whether Ms. Lungu should continue to be recognized as a Member of Parliament will be addressed at a later date.

As we consolidate the Tonse Alliance agenda and strengthen our partnerships, we do so with humility, clarity, and determination, ensuring that the ideals of unity, integrity, and progress are preserved in honor of our late Republican President.

Let us move forward together, not as fragmented voices, but as a united front committed to the future of Zambia.

EX-ZRA BOSS HAS NO PRESIDENTIAL AMBITIONS

EX-ZRA BOSS HAS NO PRESIDENTIAL AMBITIONS

Contrary to recent speculation, former Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Commissioner General Kingsley Chanda has no plans to contest the 2026 presidential election. In fact, Mr. Chanda is currently focused on his personal life and has no intention of joining politics now or in the future.

These unfounded reports have sparked unnecessary debate, but it’s essential to clarify that Mr. Chanda’s priorities lie elsewhere. He is not a member of any political party, and his future aspirations are centered around his personal endeavors, not public office.

After serving as ZRA Commissioner General, Mr. Chanda has dedicated himself to his personal life, steering clear of the political limelight. His farewell message to ZRA workers emphasized maintaining high standards, showcasing his commitment to excellence, even after his departure.

While Mr. Chanda has shared his insights on economic matters, such as debt restructuring, this doesn’t imply a desire to enter politics. His critiques are aimed at fostering informed discussions, rather than signaling political aspirations.

To set the record straight, Mr Chanda is not planning to contest the 2026 presidential election. He remains committed to his personal life and pursuits, with no interest in pursuing a political career.

… the lie that PF is Tonse’s anchor party doesn’t exist

By Chinoyi Chipulu

Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP) leader Kelvin Bwalya Fube has argued that acting PF president Given Lubinda cannot continue to lead the Tonse Alliance when the substantive vice-chairperson Dr Dan Pule is around.

In his posting in the Tonse Presidential Whatsapp group to contribute to the argument over the alliance chairmanship, and made available to Daily Revelation by alliance insiders, Fube urged all alliance members to be realistic as they analysed issues they were currently facing, especially with regard to PF as a political party.

POLICE SHOULD PURSUE CHABINGA, MINISTER OVER LEAKED AUDIO, NOT ME – MWAMBA

PF faction Information and Publicity Chairperson Emmanuel Mwamba says law enforcement agencies must focus on the content of the leaked audio, purportedly featuring Robert Chabinga and Doreen Mwamba, and not him.

And Mwamba says Chabinga’s proximity to President Hakainde Hichilema reveals the President’s character flaw, because Chabinga is a loudmouth who cannot maintain confidentiality.

On Sunday, a recording went viral, first shared by Mwamba, featuring a voice believed to be that of PF faction acting president Robert Chabinga in conversation with another voice believed to be that of Community Development Minister Doreen Mwamba.

In the audio, Chabinga was explaining how he was sent on a “special assignment” to influence a South African judge to rule in favour of the Zambian government.

About the Tonse Alliance.

July 25th, 2025.

Tonse Alliance is the vehicle that was created and left by ECL for the liberation of the people of Zambia in 2026.

Whatever we do individually or collectively therefore; we must preserve Tonse jealously and unite ourselves at all times especially at the helm of the Alliance.

Those of us that had a chance to interact with ECL in person a few months before he died, if there is only one word he kept empathizing on, it was “ Unity “.
He did not want anyone to be left out or left behind. “Mwikatane bonse bane and there is and there will be space and a role to play for everyone “.

For his love and respect therefore, We all must work hard or be it make sacrifices to ensure the Tonse Alliance remains united.

Let’s honour ECL by remaining united as we were towards and now after his demise.

Our individual aspirations should not at any time supersede those of the collective masses under the umbrella grouping. There is no insurmountable difference (if there is any, real or perceived) that cannot be resolved. “United we stand; divided we fall”.

We should all play our singular and collective roles to ensure that we dont let down the majority people of Zambia that have found Hope for their lives and a better Zambia in the ECL pioneered Tonse alliance.

CLARIFICATION ON THE PATRIOTIC FRONT’S ’s LEADERSHIP ROLE IN THE TONSE ALLIANCE

CLARIFICATION ON THE PATRIOTIC FRONT’S ’s LEADERSHIP ROLE IN THE TONSE ALLIANCE

25th July 2025

The Tonse Alliance has noted growing public commentary and misinformation suggesting that the Acting President of the Patriotic Front (PF) is not constitutionally permitted to continue leading the Alliance. This statement seeks to provide clarity, grounded in the Tonse Alliance Constitution and the founding agreements binding all member parties.

The Patriotic Front’s leadership of the Tonse Alliance is not symbolic or assumed; it is constitutionally mandated. The preamble of the Alliance Constitution expressly designates the PF as the lead entity across all structures, organs, and bodies of the Alliance. This arrangement was the product of consensus by all signatory parties at the time of the Alliance’s formation.

The chairmanship of the Alliance is not subject to rotation or renegotiation. It is a role exclusively reserved for the Patriotic Front, as stipulated in the constitutional framework. Any attempt to redefine this leadership arrangement runs contrary to the principles on which the Alliance was founded and undermines its stability.

At the inception of the Tonse Alliance, the PF made it clear through its Rules of Engagement that it would only join under the condition that it assumes the leadership role. This condition was accepted by all partners and is now embedded in the Constitution, ensuring that PF’s leadership is not only agreed upon but legally protected.

The appointment of Hon. Given Lubinda as Acting Chairperson of the Alliance is both lawful and procedurally correct. His appointment followed the temporary absence of the substantive Chairperson and was carried out in line with Articles 10(b) and (c) of the Constitution, which affirm PF’s authority as the Alliance’s anchor party to maintain leadership continuity.

Importantly, the PF’s status as the anchor party is not a contested claim—it is a constitutionally defined designation. The Constitution, through multiple clauses including Article 10, Article 12(d), and Appendix 2, clearly outlines the PF’s central role and dominant representation within the Council of Leaders and other governing structures.

Regarding the position of Vice Chairperson, the Constitution under Article 11 specifies that this role must be filled through an electoral process. No such election has occurred, which means that Prof. Pule, while acting in that capacity, cannot be regarded as the substantive Vice Chairperson until due process is followed.

In conclusion, the leadership structure of the Tonse Alliance is not a matter of debate or preference. It is enshrined in a binding constitutional framework that identifies the Patriotic Front as the Alliance’s anchor and rightful leader. Hon. Given Lubinda continues to serve as Acting Chairperson on solid constitutional grounds.

The Tonse Alliance calls upon all stakeholders, commentators, and the general public to uphold the integrity of the Constitution and refrain from actions or statements that risk distorting the established leadership framework.

⬆️ THE GIST: Tonse Alliance Disowns KBF as Succession Fights Explode

The Tonse Alliance is imploding in full view of the nation. A week of bare-knuckle politics has seen member parties close ranks against Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP) leader Kelvin Bwalya Fube, who is now accused of attempting to upend the Alliance’s leadership structure.

New Congress Party President Peter Chanda has struck the first blow, declaring on Diamond TV that KBF is “not yet an official member” of the Tonse Alliance. “He must first be accepted by the full council of alliance leaders before making pronouncements on leadership,” Chanda said, a thinly veiled rebuke of KBF’s claim that PF Acting President Given Lubinda cannot chair the Alliance.

Patriotic Front loyalist Ibrahim Mwamba has gone further, branding KBF an “outsider with no authority” to meddle in the coalition’s affairs. “He has not signed the Alliance Constitution, and until he does, he remains outside,” Mwamba said in a statement dripping with irritation.

The Tonse Alliance itself doubled down on PF’s supremacy in a strongly worded communiqué. “PF’s leadership of the Alliance is constitutionally mandated and not subject to rotation,” Deputy Spokesperson Ephraim Shakafuswa said. “Any attempt to redefine this arrangement undermines the Alliance’s stability.”

This is no ordinary skirmish. The battle lines are clear: KBF is openly challenging Lubinda’s leadership, while Alliance partners, fearful of a vacuum, are closing ranks behind PF. But the timing is toxic. The death of former President Edgar Lungu, who held the Alliance together as Chairperson, has left a vacuum that is now threatening to rip the coalition apart.

However, this is a familiar pattern. PF, notorious for bloody succession battles, is heading into another storm. “Once Lungu is buried, the gloves will come off,” observer Elias Phiri told The People’s Brief.

“This is a party and an alliance with no clear line of succession. Expect more fire.”

The infighting is already reshaping the electoral map. Socialist Party leader Fred M’membe already broke away from earlier opposition unity agreements and fielded his own candidate in the Mfuwe by-election.

“This is the start of a domino effect,” analyst Catherine Sitali warned. “If the opposition cannot unite in a by-election, how will they face the UPND in 2026?”

For now, the Alliance insists the disputes are being “handled internally.” Tonse Alliance bigwigs have attempted to calm the waters, saying the tensions are “normal issues in any club.” But the public jabs, the thinly veiled insults, and the walkouts suggest otherwise.

Meanwhile, the ruling UPND is watching from the sidelines. “The opposition is handing them 2026 on a silver platter,” Sitali said. “They may not get everything right, but a divided opposition has no chance of unseating them.”

The Tonse Alliance was once billed as Zambia’s answer to UPND dominance. Today, it is a coalition tearing itself apart, with members locked in a power struggle that may consume them all.
