With or without rain, there will be no load shedding in 3 years time – Hichilema

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says in three years time, with or without rain, there will be no load shedding in Zambia.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/15kvYViv8U/?mibextid=oFDknk

On Monday, President Hichilema commissioned the 100-megawatt Chisamba Solar Power Plant which he said would contribute to government’s target of producing 1000 megawatts of solar power this year.

The Head of State expressed confidence in what has been done so far with regards to ending load-shedding, adding that on Tuesday, State House hosted a meeting with energy experts to discuss more on changing the country’s energy sector.

He explained that government was focusing on non hydro based energy sources such as solar so that even when hit by a drought, the country doesn’t get prone to blackouts.

“This country will be a totally different country in threes years time, with or without rain, we will have power. Electricity in three years time because of non hydro based energy,” he said.

“I never talked about closing hydro power stations, I talked about resilience based, on diversification on the energy sources.”

He said what government was doing to make the future brighter in this period, is what will bear beautiful fruits in the energy sector for the country.

“1000 megawatts of solar this year, we are working hard. Two days ago, I called the energy team to run through our programme,” he assured the nation.

The Head of State said this at State House during a swearing-in ceremony for seven key government officials yesterday.

The newly commissioned US$100 million Chisamba Solar Power Plant happens to be the largest single site solar project in the country’s history this far…https://kalemba.news/local/with-or-without-rain-there-will-be-no-load-shedding-in-3-years-time-hichilema/

Cabinet Approves Teacher Licensure Bill

Cabinet Approves Teacher Licensure Bill

Major shake-up for the education sector as Cabinet has approved the Teaching Professional Bill of 2025, which will require all newly trained teachers to pass a licensure examination before entering the classroom.

The Ministry of Education says the move is intended to raise standards, reinforce professional ethics and ensure that only qualified, competent teachers are entrusted with shaping Zambia’s future generations.

It’s a step that puts teaching on par with other licensed professions like law and medicine, but it has already sparked debate among trainee teachers and unions who worry about implementation and fairness. Expect this conversation to grow louder as the Bill moves to Parliament.

THE JOURNEY THAT WE CALL DEVELOPMENT! The UPND Perspective- Luka Phiri

THE JOURNEY THAT WE CALL DEVELOPMENT! The UPND Perspective.

Most of our people misunderstand what development is. To some, it is building hospitals; to some, roads; and to some, mass employment. But let me explain to you what real development is.

After 2021, the first presidential directive was to stop cadres from harassing innocent citizens, regardless of their political affiliation. Well, as a nation, that was the first development that we needed – a Zambia that belongs to all. You must understand that the burden of the President, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, was to restore the rule of law. You cannot build a road where innocent citizens are harassed for wearing red attire and still call that development.

The first tangible development that a nation must see is where the rule of law is restored. After restoring sanity in a nation, the second step in real development is to decentralize. A nation cannot develop unless its citizens are allowed to make independent decisions. It is for this reason that every developmental program you see in the nation today has a bottom-up approach. The citizens sit to decide what they want through the office of the Ward Development Committee (WDC), and the files are later scaled up to the CDF committee for possible consideration.

To develop a nation, you need to put up programs that enhance and improve the local economy. Until small-scale businesses are funded with startup capital without them providing collateral, you cannot call that development. The UPND government introduced grants and loans under CDF to ensure that constituencies begin to raise business giants from funds allocated to their constituencies.

Africa has a lot of talented youths, Zambia included. The problem that Africa has had is the failure to enroll these youths in skills training facilities where their skills can be sharpened. You cannot call a nation developed because it has good roads but the youths have no economic activities. While it is important to have good road infrastructure, it is pure development when the youths who walk on those roads are empowered with skills.

The strength of Europe today is innovation. To bridge the visible gap, the UPND government introduced skills training under CDF to ensure we have youths who are not only talented but guided under seasoned tutors. Unless a nation consciously embarks on such a journey, you cannot call it developed.

MWAMBA HAILS MUKANDILA AS A “GIANT KILLER” AND DEFENDER OF CONSTITUTION

MWAMBA HAILS MUKANDILA AS A “GIANT KILLER” AND DEFENDER OF CONSTITUTION

Lusaka… Friday July 4, 2025 – Mr. Ibrahim Mwamba, also known as “The Great Elephant” and serving as the National Student Affairs Vice Chairman for the Tonse Alliance, has praised Celestine Mambula Mukandila for his unwavering commitment to defending the Constitution of Zambia during what he described as a “critical hour.”

In a passionate declaration, Mr. Mwamba referred to Mukandila as the “Giant Killer of Bill 7,” urging him to receive his accolades and calling for full support from the youth.

He stated that Mukandila deserved “100% support from 7 million youths in the country” for standing firm on constitutional principles at a time when such efforts were not deemed fashionable.

Mr. Mwamba stated that others who had taken similar stands had either been incarcerated or were currently facing trial, underscoring the risks involved in such advocacy.

He emphasized that the nation needed voices like Mukandila’s now more than ever and described him as “the voice of the voiceless.”

Offering both political and spiritual support, Mr. Mwamba expressed his prayers that God would continue to bless and protect Mukandila, while invoking both Christian and Islamic sentiments by concluding with, “May Allah God protect you. Aluta continue!”

No Legal Basis for Presidential Apology in State-Facilitated Burial of Former President Lungu

No Legal Basis for Presidential Apology in State-Facilitated Burial of Former President Lungu

By; Tobbius Chilembo Hamunkoyo -LLB

The call by Grassroot Patriotic Party (GPP) President Damiano Ngoma urging President Hakainde Hichilema to travel to South Africa and issue an apology to the family of the late former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu lacks both legal foundation and constitutional necessity and should be entertained in any way.

President Hakainde Hichilema in coordinating burial arrangements, is merely executing his constitutional duties and upholding long-standing State protocols applicable to the death of a former Head of State.

The suggestion that President Hichilema should apologize for the lawful suspension of Mr. Lungu’s benefits under the Benefits of Former Presidents Act, which was invoked due to Mr. Lungu’s return to active politics, is legally unfounded.

The enforcement of this statute was done in compliance with established law and not as an act of persecution.

Accordingly, the President’s actions in managing the funeral and burial proceedings align with historical precedent and established state practice, and there exists no legal or moral obligation requiring an apology.

“Burial Standoff: Lungu Family Accuses Government of Betrayal and Flip-Flopping”

“Burial Standoff: Lungu Family Accuses Government of Betrayal and Flip-Flopping”

Tensions between the family of the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu and the Zambian government have intensified, with the family accusing authorities of inconsistency and dishonesty in the handling of burial arrangements for the country’s sixth Republican President.

In a live interview on South Africa’s SABC, family spokesperson and lawyer Makebi Zulu dismissed recent claims that meaningful negotiations have been ongoing. Instead, he painted a picture of stalled talks, government backtracking, and mounting frustration.

“Lately, there have not been any negotiations with the government,” Mr. Zulu said candidly. “You may be aware that President Lungu passed on the 5th of June, and from the 6th of June, we engaged in conversations with the government. But every time we thought we had found common ground, the government changed its position on matters of concern.”

According to Zulu, what began as hopeful talks quickly deteriorated into a cycle of shifting goalposts. Agreements, he said, were frequently reversed, undermining trust and prolonging the process.

“This not only dishonors the memory of President Lungu but also puts the family in a very difficult position,” he emphasized. “The problem we had was the government repeatedly shifting goalposts. Agreements would be made, only to be unmade the next day.”

Mr. Zulu also used the platform to express the family’s deep disappointment with how the issue has been handled, suggesting that the late President’s wishes are being ignored in the current political and public debate.

His remarks come amid growing public concern over the delay in burying the late Head of State, who died nearly a month ago. The unresolved matter has sparked widespread speculation, with critics accusing the government of politicizing what should be a solemn and unifying national event.

While government representatives have publicly stated their openness to dialogue, Mr. Zulu insists that the family has yet to see a credible demonstration of that willingness.

“The family came to the table in good faith. But we’ve reached a point where we must question whether the other side has done the same,” he said.

Observers believe Mr. Zulu’s comments could place added pressure on President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration to bring closure to the issue with transparency and dignity. The impasse threatens to further polarize the nation, especially at a time when emotions remain raw and Lungu’s legacy remains contested.

As the days stretch on with no final agreement in sight, Zambians across the political divide are calling for a swift and respectful resolution one that honors the memory of a man who served at the highest office of the land, regardless of the political controversies he may have left behind.

LUSAKA LIVING EXPENSES OUTPACE AVERAGE INCOMES-JCTR

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

The jesuit centre for theological reflection (jctr) has revealed that the cost of living for a family of five in lusaka remained high in the first half of 2025, closing the second quarter with the basic needs and nutrition basket (bnnb) standing at k11,763.38 — nearly k1,000 higher than in january.

speaking during the 2025 quarterly bnnb analysis, jctr social and economic development programme manager edward musosa charged that the persistently high cost of living continues to erode the dignity of ordinary zambians.

mr musosa has disclosed that between may and june, the bnnb increased by k490.41, driven mainly by non-food items such as charcoal, whose price surged due to seasonal demand and reduced supply.

he said jctr observed significant cost disparities across the 16 towns monitored, with mongu recording the lowest basket at k5,889.32 in january, while choma saw a sharp increase of over k1,600 within five months.

mr musosa has emphasized that the average formal sector income of k7,731 and the national average income of k5,369 remain far below the bnnb threshold, urging policymakers to implement urgent economic reforms, including enhanced social protection, energy cost control, and food market stabilization.

Morning Wire | Makebi Fire Fresh Jabs, Rogue MP Suspended, HH Calls Out ‘Glorifying Thieves’

Good morning, Zambia. It’s a Friday already but there enough happenings to overwhelm you.

⚡ Makebi Zulu Spits New Jabs

Late former President Edgar Lungu’s family has unleashed fresh fire, branding government’s push to repatriate and bury him as deceitful and disrespectful. Family spokesperson Makebi Zulu told South Africa’s SABC that the Lungu family has no confidence in the State after what he described as flip-flopping and “goalpost shifting” since the former leader’s passing on June 5.

Zulu insists the body belongs to the family, arguing that Lungu lost all presidential benefits before death, severing the State’s claim.

With former Malawian President Bakili Muluzi’s mediation now declared dead in the water, all eyes shift to Pretoria where Zambia’s amended notice was due yesterday. The final ruling is now a matter for the courts in August.

️ Nkana MP Suspended After Firebrand Outbursts

Nkana Member of Parliament Binwell Mpundu will spend the next seven days barred from the chamber. Deputy Speaker Attractor Chisangano delivered the suspension after a string of insults from Mpundu, who has built a rogue brand calling others “ci-freemason” and “Ichimutwe.”

Chisangano shut him down with a cold reminder: “This is not your house, this is the people’s house. Zambians are tired of your unruly and disorderly behaviour.”

 Zambia Must Stop Glorifying ‘Thieves’ — HH

President Hakainde Hichilema is putting a sharp edge on his anti-corruption stance.
At State House yesterday, the President told newly sworn-in officials that Zambia’s culture of defending those who loot must end.

He condemned leaders who steal drugs from the health sector only to reinvent themselves as “businesspeople.”

“Public funds are for the people. If you take what is for the sick and pocket it, you are not a businessperson, you are a thief. That is who you are,” he said.

Hichilema challenged the country to separate public resources from private interests and carry personal integrity at all times.

⬆️ Teachers’ Licensure Exam Now A Must

Cabinet has approved a sweeping new Teaching Profession Bill that will require newly trained teachers to pass licensure exams before they stand at the front of any class.

Minister of Information Cornelius Mweetwa described the measure as a turning point for education standards, promising that only the best and most competent educators will shape young minds.

The reforms will also unify disciplinary frameworks for teachers in both public and private sectors, closing a loophole that has long frustrated regulators.

CABINET APPROVES BOLD REFORMS TO BOOST GOVERNANCE,ECONOMY AND SECURITY

CABINET APPROVES BOLD REFORMS TO BOOST GOVERNANCE,ECONOMY AND SECURITY

By Jack Makayi

Lusaka-3rd July 2025

Cabinet has approved a series of reforms targeting illegal mining, economic stabilization, and public sector governance.

Speaking at a press conference earlier today, Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa said the government is taking firm and deliberate steps to safeguard national resources and enhance service delivery across sectors.

He said Cabinet authorized the deployment of defense and security forces to clamp down on illegal mining, particularly in tin and lithium-rich areas, where illegal foreign and local operations have surged.

The move follows a troubling rise in unlicensed activities by artisanal miners and foreign nationals exploiting strategic minerals.

Mweetwa explained that Zambia is losing significant revenue through smuggling, while unregulated mining continues to pose serious environmental, safety, and human rights concerns.

He added that long-term corrective measures will include issuing mining licenses to local cooperatives to ensure that communities benefit directly from the country’s mineral wealth.

Several progressive bills were approved to strengthen legal and institutional frameworks.

MWEETWA DISMISSES IMPEACHMENT CALLS AS POLITICAL GIMMICK

MWEETWA DISMISSES IMPEACHMENT CALLS AS POLITICAL GIMMICK

Chief Government Spokesperson CORNELIUS MWEETWA has dismissed calls by the opposition for the impeachment of President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA, describing them as political stunts aimed at diverting public attention from the Government’s achievements.

Mr. MWEETWA said the calls are not practicable and are merely a ploy by the opposition to gain cheap political visibility.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka today, he stated that no court of law has found President HICHILEMA to have violated the Constitution.

He clarified that the Constitutional Court’s judgment was advisory in nature and not binding.

Mr. MWEETWA emphasized that Article 108 of the Constitution stipulates that for an impeachment motion to be entertained in Parliament, the mover must demonstrate that the Head of State has indeed violated the Constitution.

He was responding to remarks by Citizens First leader HARRY KALABA, who was quoted as calling on President HICHILEMA to resign or face impeachment over an alleged constitutional violation.

ECL’s Body Belongs to the Family, Not the State — Makebi Zulu Accuses Government of Undermining the Family.

IT’S ABOUT DIGNITY

Johannesburg | July 3, 2025

The family of the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has condemned what they describe as a public relations campaign by the Zambian government, accusing the state of prioritizing optics over sincerity in handling the former Head of State’s funeral arrangements.

Speaking from Johannesburg, family spokesperson Makebi Zulu disclosed that even high-level mediation efforts by former regional leaders had collapsed, citing a consistent pattern of dishonesty and backtracking by the Zambian government.

“If the government was truthful, they would tell you that things that were agreed between the president and President Bakili Muluzi… the president changed his mind later on,” said Zulu.

“There have been other former presidents involved as well, but each time we made progress, the government shifted the goalposts.”

The disappointment is not just procedural, but deeply personal, according to the family.

“What the family wants is a dignified send-off,” Zulu emphasized.

“A dignified send-off cannot occur in a climate where all the state machinery, or indeed the media, has been organized against the family.”

He went on to accuse state-owned and aligned media of deliberately framing the family as uncooperative and unreasonable, thereby manipulating public perception while ignoring the family’s repeated appeals for dignity, sincerity, and mutual respect.

According to Mr. Zulu, the initial conversations with the state began on June 6, just one day after the President’s death. However, as discussions progressed, the government allegedly continued to alter terms that had already been agreed upon.

“This is not about politics. This is about respect,” Zulu insisted.

“Respect for a man who led this nation. Respect for a grieving family. And respect for truth.”

Lusaka woman cheats on hubby with wedding DJ two days after marriage

Lusaka woman cheats on hubby with wedding DJ two days after marriage

WHAT started as a joyous union of hearts has taken a bitter turn, with a Lusaka woman caught red handed cheating on her husband just two days after their seemingly blissful wedding.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16rr3Mrbtg/?mibextid=oFDknk

Mercy Bwalya, a 23-year-old woman hailing from the outskirts of Lusaka’s six miles area has been accused of not only betraying her 44-year-old husband, John Ncwane with their wedding DJ, who was allegedly her ex-boyfriend, but also with 32 other men.

It is believed that Ncwane, the betrayed husband had met Bwalya on Facebook and wed her only a year after his previous wife died.

Driven by a mixture of betrayal and shock, Ncwane filed for a divorce from Bwalya at the Matero Local Court, citing not only Bwalya’s alleged infidelity but also accusations that she used charms to control him during their brief marriage.

Ncwane narrated that Bwalya and her family had engaged in a series of deceptions, including hiring her ex-boyfriend as their wedding DJ and deceiving him into paying for wedding chefs despite the fact that the family cooked the food themselves.

He disclosed that just days into their marriage, he discovered that Bwalya was engaged in intimate relations with 33 men including her ex-boyfriend, with nude photos of these men showing off their biological cucumbers stored in her phone.

Ncwane revealed that he had sold his assets acquired with his late wife to finance a lavish wedding ceremony for Bwalya amounting to over K205,000.

He disclosed that while cleaning the wardrobe one day, he stumbled upon a packet of charms, which he believes were responsible for the sudden onset of health issues that plagued him, causing his legs to develop an unusual pattern suggestive of a zebra or snake.

“One night, Bwalya asked me to undress, bath in charms and run around the house naked. Being under her spell, I obeyed, unaware of the dangerous path I was treading. Little did I know that my children had noticed the changes in me and had begun praying and fasting, concerned for my well-being,” he recounted.

“Watching my children, aged only eight and nine years old, abstaining from food and engaging in prolonged periods of fasting while they prayed for me, filled my heart with sorrow,” shared Ncwane.

He also revealed that when he tried to confide in his mother-in-law about his marital issues, she demanded that he keeps his grievances within the confines of their marriage and avoid sharing them with other family members.

“It has become clear to me that Bwalya’s true motive was my untimely demise, so she could claim all my assets for herself. She has no love for me; her sole interest is monetary gain,” he said.

“Your honour, I put my children in harm’s way by marrying this woman. She has brought nothing but heartache and turmoil into our lives, creating a living nightmare for me and my family.”

Ncwane added that as an elder in the Seventh Day Adventist church, he was reluctant to divorce his wife despite her unfaithfulness, fearing the potential judgement and isolation that he might face from his family and fellow congregants if he was to go through with a divorce.

And to justify her actions, Bwalya asserted that she had only engaged in extramarital affairs because Ncwane was also being unfaithful in their marriage.

“He was involved with multiple women, and I was reciprocating his behaviour by engaging in extra-marital affairs,” she said.

“My husband had a flat where he housed one of his girlfriends. When I confronted him about it, he tried to pass her off as a maid when in reality she was his other wife and pregnant with his child.”

Presiding over the case, Magistrate Harriet Mulenga chose to adjourn the case to a later date, to allow Bwalya focus on her education as she is writing exams.

“Given that Bwalya is currently taking exams, I believe it would be in her best interest to postpone the judgement. I do not want to disrupt her studies or jeopardise her ability to concentrate with my judgement during this crucial period,” stated magistrate Mulenga….https://kalemba.news/court/lusaka-woman-cheats-on-hubby-with-wedding-dj-two-days-after-marriage/

LUNGU’S BURIAL BY GOVT WOULD BE A MOCKERY — MAKEBI  ZULU

LUNGU’S BURIAL BY GOVT WOULD BE A MOCKERY — MAKEBI

By Darius Choonya

The family of late former President Edgar Lungu says it would be a mockery if the Zambian government insists on being the one to bury him.

Speaking on South African broadcaster SABC on Thursday July 3, 2025 , family spokesperson Makebi Zulu said the relationship between the Lungu family and the government had broken down, making such an arrangement unacceptable.

Mr. Zulu accused the Zambian government of deceit during earlier negotiations and stated that the decision to take the matter to court effectively blocked any further dialogue.

He revealed that former Malawian President Bakili Muluzi initially led the mediation efforts, but the talks yielded no positive outcome.

According to Mr. Zulu, the body of the late President belongs to the family not the state especially since Mr. Lungu had lost all his presidential benefits before his death.

https://youtu.be/17TItTlQ3xA?si=w7J5PNIZsp8gBQL4

He added that the family is satisfied the matter is now before the courts, which will determine the legal rights of both the family and the state regarding Mr. Lungu’s burial.

This comes after Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa told a press briefing that negotiations between the family and the state were still ongoing.

Meanwhile, the Zambian government is expected to file its amended notice of motion and supplementary affidavit on Friday, July 4, 2025, seeking the repatriation of Mr. Lungu’s body.

The Lungu family has also been directed to file their heads of argument and list of authorities by July 24, 2025, ahead of the court hearing set for August 4, 2025.

President Lungu died on June 5, 2025, in South Africa.

Following a dispute between the family and the Zambian state, the family opted to bury him in South Africa. However, on June 25, 2025, the Pretoria High Court halted the burial pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.

GOVT ENGAGING BUS OWNERS AND TAXI OPERATORS ON PROPOSED BUS FARES ADJUSTMENTS

GOVT ENGAGING BUS OWNERS AND TAXI OPERATORS ON PROPOSED BUS FARES ADJUSTMENTS

Minister of Transport and Logistics, Hon.Frank Tayali has told Parliament that the Government has engaged the Bus Owners and Taxi Association of Zambia (BTOAZ) on the proposed bus fare adjustments for the month of July following the reduction in the price for diesel and petrol from K27.12 to K23.13 and K31.36 to K28.00, respectively.

Hon.Tayali disclosed this during a Ministerial Statement on Transportation Fee Adjustments and mechanism used by Government to regulate bus fares in response to changes in fuel prices which was delivered in Parliament this afternoon.

Here are the highlights;

✅Mr Tayali explained that Government adjusts bus fares on a monthly basis depending on adjustments to the fuel pump prices. He said the adjustments are determined using a cost-based fare model that was developed by the Bus and Taxi Owners Association of Zambia (BTOAZ) in collaboration with the State through the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA).

✅He said this model provides a structured framework to assess the impact of fuel price movements on operational costs for public service transport providers and takes into account variables such as fuel consumption, maintenance, depreciation, and administrative costs.

✅These changes, the Minister pointed out, are implemented to ensure fairness to both transport operators and the commuting public.

✅Reaffirmed Government’s commitment to adjusting fares in a manner that balances the need to sustain public transport operations on one hand, and protecting the commuting public from unjustified increases.

✅Revealed that from January to June 2025, the Ministry through RTSA in collaboration with BTOAZ has consistently applied the Bus Fare Adjustment model in response to fuel changes which recorded various fluctuations in pump prices.

✅Accordingly, the bus fare model was applied to determine appropriate adjustments. I will now provide an update from January 2025 to date.

✅The Minister updated that in January 2025, there was no adjustment in the price of bus fares as there was no increase in the price of diesel, but only on the petrol price
-February 2025: There was a marginal increase in the price of diesel and petrol, which was below the trigger point of at least K2.00. Therefore, there was also no bus fare adjustment.

-March 2025: There was no increase in both the price of diesel and petrol, thus there was no adjustment on bus fares.
-April 2025: There was a significant reduction in the price of diesel from K32.54 to K30.23 which resulted in a reduction of prices for intercity routes by 2.4%. Other routes mainly inter-mine and peri urban routes (Lusaka and other towns) reduced by K1.00.

-May 2025: There was again a significant reduction in the price of diesel and petrol from K30.23 to K27.38 and K34.98 to K32.14, respectively resulting in the reduction of prices for inter-city routes by 3.3% while prices for inter-mine and peri-urban routes reduced by K1.50.
-June 2025: There was yet another significant reduction in the price of diesel from K27.38 to K25.13 resulting in a price reduction for inter-city routes by 2.7%. Petrol reduced from K32.14 to K31.36 resulting in a reduction of prices for all the local routes by an average of K1.00.

✅Hon.Tayali, noted there was a cumulative reduction in prices for inter-city routes of 8.4% from March to June 2025 while on the other hand, the cumulative reduction in prices for local routes has been K3.50 during the same period.

✅Stated that as for the month of July, where the price for diesel and petrol has reduced from K27.12 to K23.13 and K31.36 to K28.00, respectively, the Government has engaged the Bus Owners and Taxi Association of Zambia (BTOAZ) on the proposed bus fare adjustments.

✅The Minister also highlighted to the house that once a fuel price change is announced, the Government undertakes a process to assess and implement fare revisions.

The following steps are undertaken:

1. Analysis: When the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) adjusts fuel prices, the Government through RTSA initiates an immediate technical review using the fare model;

2. Stakeholder Engagements: RTSA meets with BTOAZ to validate the model’s output;
3. Ministerial Approval: Proposed fare adjustments are submitted to my office for policy and administrative clearance; and
4. Public Notification and Enforcement: Once approved, new fares are publicly announced through formal communication channels. Enforcement teams ensure compliance across the country.

✅He said the model also accounts for modest thresholds in fuel changes as it prevents reactionary fare increases or decreases for marginal fuel fluctuations and ensures pricing stability and predictability for the public and operators alike.

✅Hon.Tayali reiterated that Government remains committed to fairness and transparency in the regulation of public transport fares and it will continue to implement bus fare adjustments in line with the fuel pump price adjustments while upholding the principles of consumer protection, affordability and operational sustainability.

CABINET APPROVES DEPLOYMENT OF SECURITY FORCES TO COMBAT ILLEGAL MINING

CABINET APPROVES DEPLOYMENT OF SECURITY FORCES TO COMBAT ILLEGAL MINING

Cabinet has approved the deployment of Defense and Security personnel to curb the rising illegal mining activities across the country.

Reports indicate widespread illegal extraction of gold, manganese, copper, sugillite, tin, and lithium—primarily by artisanal and small-scale miners. This illicit trade has fueled additional criminal activities, including mineral smuggling, environmental degradation, and an influx of undocumented foreign nationals.

Furthermore, illegal mining has led to the exploitation of local communities, with miners receiving far lower prices for their minerals compared to regulated international market rates.

Targeted Areas & Formalization Efforts
Key hotspots identified for intervention include:

Rufunsa, Kasempa, Mpika, Mumbwa

Lusangazi, Chisamba, Chibombo, Luano

Lumezi, Chadiza, Vubwi (among others)

To ensure sustainable solutions, Cabinet has also emphasized the formalization of artisanal and small-scale miners. This includes issuing mining licenses to local communities through cooperatives, enhancing their participation in the mineral value chain while curbing illegal activities.

The bill was supposed to be Trump’s policy magnum opus heading into November, but it has instead become the latest wedge between two of America’s richest and most flamboyant egos.

So, what’s in Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill that’s so divisive?

Top 5 Disadvantages critics are yelling about over coffee and cold pizza on Capitol Hill:
1. Green Guts Out – It slashes electric vehicle (EV) tax credits and pulls back renewable energy subsidies. The planet weeps.

2. Subsidy Shocker – Billions in federal support that Musk’s Tesla and SpaceX relied on would vanish faster than Trump’s tax returns.
3. Manufacturing Mandate – US companies are forced to bring back production stateside, or face mega-tariffs. Even Apple’s sweating.

4. Foreign Worker Freeze – It clamps down on tech visas. That’s not great when your AI team mostly speaks Python, not patriotism.
5. Budget Blowout – Critics say it could blow a trillion-dollar hole in the national debt. But Trump insists “it’ll pay for itself beautifully, believe me.” Like the wall of Mexico.

But hey, let’s be fair. There are also 5 Benefits Trump and his allies are waving like pom-poms:

1. Jobs, Jobs, Jobs! – Manufacturing mandates could bring jobs back from China and Mexico.
2. Energy Independence – Fossil fuels and hydrogen get a major boost, making OPEC less relevant.

3. Trade Muscle – The bill gives teeth to U.S. trade policies, especially with “naughty” countries.
4. Border Boost – Surprise! The bill includes mega-funding for AI-powered border security.

5. Tax Cuts Galore – Business owners from Alabama to Alaska get tasty deductions (if they’re in oil, gas, or guns).

So, why did Musk blow a gasket?

Musk, who’s worth around $230 billion plus (compared to Trump’s humble $2.6 billion, on a good day), is furious the bill yanks support for EVs and renewable projects.

Tesla stands to lose over $7 billion in federal credits under the new law. SpaceX, another government golden goose, could see defence and NASA contracts trimmed under new budget caps.

It wasn’t always like this. Musk reportedly donated millions to Trump’s 2024 re-election campaign, about $200 billion some say, hoping for a tech-friendly policy bonanza.

But now, Musk has threatened to fund a third political party, possibly called the “Rocket Party”—where everyone’s invited, but only if you can afford a Model X or at least understand quantum computing.

Trump’s clap back?

Classic Don. “Who wants to own a Tesla anyhow?” he quipped at a rally in Ohio. “When you can drive a beautiful, petroleum-powered American truck…or a hydrogen beast. Elon? We might just deport him to Canada and cancel SpaceX. We’ll call it…SpaceY.”

He was gonna pay $80,000 for a model tesla and leave it at the White House for staff to drive and remembers him by, crazy right?
Ouch.

The love lost:

Their bromance went from “You’re fired!” to “You’re dead to me!” in record speed.

Once the loudest tech cheerleader in Trump’s stands, Musk now says he’s done being “used for photo ops and tweet fodder.” Trump, meanwhile, has gone full scorched earth.

It’s not just politics—it’s personal. Two titans, one bill, no love. And as America hurtles toward election season, we’ll see whether the Big Beautiful Bill is a rocket to glory…or just another billionaire bromance gone kaboom.

Today, the U.S. House of Representatives narrowly approved Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” by a vote of 218 in favor and 214 opposed
• For (218 votes): A slim GOP margin — just enough to pass.
• Against (214 votes): Every House Democrat voted “no,” joined by two Republicans: Thomas Massie (KY) and Brian Fitzpatrick (PA)

Once POTUS signs the bill into law, stark projections are that, up to 17 million poor Americans could “become uninsured” when factoring in both Medicaid and ACA marketplace changes.

That 218–214 outcome sealed the measure’s passage and sent it to President Trump, who is expected to sign it, possibly as early as July 4.

Happy weekend, folks. May your relationships age better than this one?

Enjoy your weekend and 4th of July folks!

Jub Jub’s silence fuels speculation on MK Party loyalty

Jub Jub’s silence fuels speculation on MK Party loyalty

South Africans are questioning whether TV host and rapper Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye is still a supporter of the uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) Party, as his silence coincides with the party’s escalating internal conflicts.

Jub Jub, who joined the Jacob Zuma-led MK Party in 2024 after leaving the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has been conspicuously absent from public support amid the party’s ongoing dramas, prompting widespread curiosity about his political stance.

Late last year, Jub Jub was actively involved with the MK Party, seen distributing MK Party t-shirts at a petrol station and on the streets

He was also photographed alongside former president Jacob Zuma at Zuma’s Nkandla home, proudly wearing an MK Party tracksuit, signaling his commitment to the party at the time.

SuperSport United sold to minister’s son, rebranded as Siwelele FC

SuperSport United sold to minister’s son, rebranded as Siwelele FC

SuperSport United, a three-time Premier Soccer League (PSL) champion, has been sold to a Bloemfontein-based consortium led by Calvin Le John, son of Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie.

The club, purchased for a reported R50 million, will be rebranded as Siwelele Football Club, pending PSL Executive Committee approval.

The sale ends SuperSport United’s 31-year legacy in the PSL, where it clinched three league titles (2007-2010), five Nedbank Cups, three MTN8 titles, and one Telkom Knockout. SuperSport International, the club’s parent company, cited a strategic pivot to its core sports content business as the reason for the sale.

“This move allows us to focus on being the best sports content provider in Africa,” said CEO Rendani Ramovha.

Calvin Le John, chairman of Siwelele FC, expressed pride in continuing SuperSport’s winning tradition while aiming to revive the spirit of Bloemfontein Celtic, a beloved club sold to Royal AM in 2021. “We are privileged to carry forward a rich legacy,” Le John said.

However, the club will operate as Siwelele FC due to legal issues surrounding the Bloemfontein Celtic name.

The involvement of Minister McKenzie’s son has raised eyebrows, with some fans questioning potential conflicts of interest given McKenzie’s role in overseeing South African sports.

As Siwelele FC awaits PSL approval, the consortium has finalized new branding, including kits and logos, signaling a new era for football in the Free State.

Yet, with two teams potentially vying for fans in Mangaung, the move could stir further debate in the City of Roses.

Former SA deputy president David Mabuza dies at 64

Former deputy president David Mabuza dies at 64

South Africa is in mourning following the death of former Deputy President David Dabede Mabuza, who passed away today, Thursday, July 3, at 64 in a Sandton hospital after a short illness.

President Cyril Ramaphosa and ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula confirmed the news, prompting tributes for a key figure in the nation’s politics.

Born in Mpumalanga in 1960, Mabuza, nicknamed “The Cat” for his political cunning, was a liberation struggle stalwart and ANC heavyweight.

He served as Deputy President from 2018 to 2023 and as Mpumalanga Premier from 2009 to 2018, where he championed infrastructure and education but faced allegations of corruption and political violence, which he denied.

His strategic influence was pivotal in securing Ramaphosa’s ANC presidency in 2017. Ramaphosa hailed Mabuza as a “dedicated servant,” while Mbalula praised his ANC loyalty.

Opposition parties, including the DA and EFF, acknowledged his role in South Africa’s democratic journey.

Details of his memorial and funeral will be announced soon. He is survived by his wife, Nonhlanhla Patience Mnisi, and their children.

Paul Pogba shared the bitter lessons life taught him about people during his difficult time

In an emotional interview, French footballer Paul Pogba revealed the profound personal toll of his 18-month football ban, which was lifted earlier this year.

The former Manchester United and Juventus star described how his fall from fame led to widespread abandonment by those around him, including friends, acquaintances, and even those close to his wife, Zulay Pogba.

Pogba shared how the loss of his celebrity status exposed the fragility of relationships built on his public persona.

He also spoke about the isolation he experienced following the doping ban, which began in August 2023 after he tested positive for testosterone.

“I really realized what was life. There was no Paul Pogba – the famous guy – the player and everything, people were avoiding me, the worst thing was even my wife,” Pogba told the reporter on the interview.

“People used to invite me, I give example about fashion week or other kind of stuff like that and events and now they are like, “oh no we can’t use Pogba,’” the footballer continued.

The French footballer said the calls stopped and people started avoiding him and how these people are now calling him.

“My phone wasn’t ringing the way it was ringing the day I received the good news. And I’m totally fine with it,” the Monaco forward lamented.

The ban, initially set at four years but reduced to 18 months, sidelined him from professional football and stripped away the spotlight that had defined much of his career.

In a heartfelt discussion, Pogba reflected on how the absence of fame revealed who truly valued him for himself, not his status.

Eyewitness driving behind  Liverpool Footballer Jota Diogo Jota before the accident releases full video he took of the incident

A tragic car accident on the A-52 motorway in the municipality of Cernadilla, Zamora, Spain, claimed the lives of Liverpool FC forward Diogo Jota, 28, and his brother André Silva, 26, in the early hours of Thursday, July 3, 2025.

The Spanish Guardia Civil, alongside local emergency services, has released preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation into the incident, which occurred at approximately 12:30 AM local time (11:30 PM BST).

Below is a detailed account of the investigation’s findings based on official statements and reports from authorities.

Preliminary Investigation Findings
The accident took place at kilometer 65 of the A-52 motorway, a major highway connecting the regions near the Spain-Portugal border, approximately 35 kilometers from the border town of Sanabria.

The vehicle involved was a Lamborghini, a high-performance supercar valued at approximately £200,000, carrying Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, a professional footballer for Penafiel in Portugal’s second division.

According to the Guardia Civil, the vehicle veered off the road and caught fire, resulting in the deaths of both occupants at the scene. The blaze also spread to nearby vegetation, complicating initial response efforts.

The Spanish Guardia Civil’s preliminary investigation points to a tire blowout as the primary cause of the accident.

The vehicle was reportedly attempting to overtake another car at the time of the incident, a maneuver that may have been compromised by the sudden failure of one of the Lamborghini’s tires.

The high speed typical of such vehicles, combined with the tire blowout, likely caused the driver to lose control, leading the car to leave the roadway. The subsequent impact and fire were catastrophic, with the vehicle becoming fully engulfed in flames.

The Guardia Civil’s statement to BBC Sport and other outlets noted: “A vehicle left the road and everything indicates a tyre burst while overtaking. As a result of the accident, the car caught fire and both people were killed.”

Forensic tests are still pending to confirm the identities of the deceased, though authorities have identified the victims as Diogo Jota and André Silva based on preliminary evidence.

Donald Trump will host leaders from five African nations in Washington next week

U.S. President, Donald Trump will host leaders from five African nations in Washington next week to explore what the White House described as “commercial opportunities.”

The meeting, set for July 9 at the White House, will include discussions and a lunch with leaders from Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania, and Senegal, according to a White House official.

“President Trump believes that African countries offer incredible commercial opportunities that benefit both the American people and our African partners,” the official said, explaining the motivation behind the gathering.

Earlier reports by Africa Intelligence and Semafor indicated the Trump administration would hold a broader summit with these countries from July 9 to 11.

Under Trump’s leadership, the U.S. has significantly cut foreign aid to Africa, arguing that much of it is wasteful and does not align with his “America First” agenda. Instead, the administration says it aims to prioritize trade and investment that foster mutual prosperity.

On Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio underscored this shift, announcing that Washington was moving away from what he called a charity-driven aid model and would instead support nations that show “both the ability and willingness to help themselves.”

Troy Fitrel, a senior official in the Bureau of African Affairs, said in May that U.S. diplomats on the continent will now be evaluated based on commercial agreements secured, outlining it as the cornerstone of America’s new engagement strategy in Africa.

‘It doesn’t make sense’ – Cristiano Ronaldo pays tribute to Diogo Jota

Cristiano Ronaldo has shared a heartbreaking tribute to Diogo Jota after his Portugal team-mate d!ed in a car crash on Thursday, July 3.

Jota died at the age of 28 after his Lamborghini careered off a road in northern Spain – just two weeks after he married his childhood sweetheart.

The Portuguese striker, 28, died in the early hours of Thursday morning while he was travelling in the supercar near Zamora with his fellow footballer brother Andre, 26, who was also k!lled in the crash.

Jota had just married Rute Cardoso, the mother of his three children, and described himself as the luckiest man in the world to be her husband in his final Instagram post on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lamborghini’s tyre is believed to have blown out while overtaking on the A-52 at Cernadilla near Zamora in northwestern Spain, close to the border with Portugal, in the early hours of this morning.

Portugal captain Ronaldo offered his tribute to Jota and his brother Andre in a post on social media.

The tragic news coming just weeks after Ronaldo and Jota had helped Portugal win the Nations League.

‘It doesn’t make sense. Just now we were together in the National Team, just now you had gotten married,’ Ronaldo said.

‘To your family, your wife, and your children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world. I know you will always be with them.

‘Rest in Peace, Diogo and André. We will all miss you.’

Nigeria’s opposition unites to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027 presidential race

In a major political shake-up, Nigeria’s leading opposition leaders have come together to launch a new coalition aimed at challenging the dominance of President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential elections.

The newly formed Africa Democratic Congress coalition brings together prominent rivals from the last election, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, as well as a host of ex-governors and former lawmakers, some of whom previously belonged to the ruling party.

At the official launch event held in Abuja on Wednesday, the coalition’s interim chairman and former Senate president, David Mark, reportedly framed the alliance as a necessary move to protect Nigeria’s political plurality.

“The coalition will stop Nigeria from becoming a one-party state,” he said.

The formation of this alliance comes amid growing criticism that President Bola Tinubu is working both overtly and through his political allies to turn Nigeria into a de facto one-party state. Detractors accuse his administration of leveraging state resources and influence to pressure prominent opposition figures into defecting to the APC.

Although Tinubu has publicly denied these claims, the visible support from powerful figures within his party has raised alarm over what many see as a decline in democratic competition, particularly in a region already grappling with creeping authoritarianism.

The urgency of the opposition’s response is underscored by a wave of recent defections from opposition camps to the ruling party, involving both federal lawmakers and governors. With political tensions rising, the race for Nigeria’s presidency appears to be heating up years ahead of schedule.

Political analysts have drawn parallels between the current coalition and the 2015 alliance that successfully ended the 16-year reign of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), once considered unshakeable. Much like that historic upset, today’s opposition hopes to capitalize on public frustration with unmet promises on national security and economic recovery.

President Tinubu’s administration has been under pressure over the fallout from sweeping economic reforms. The removal of long-standing fuel subsidies and the floating of Nigeria’s currency have triggered an inflation crisis and stirred nationwide discontent, while violent attacks by armed groups have resurged in various regions.

Singer Lily Allen says she’s had a few ab0rtions but can’t remember how many

British singer Lily Allen has opened up about her reproductive history, revealing she has had “quite a few” ab0rtions, so many, in fact, that she admitted she can’t recall the exact number.

Speaking on the latest episode of her Miss Me? podcast alongside co-host Miquita Oliver, Allen estimated the number to be “probably around four or five.” The conversation unfolded candidly, with Oliver also disclosing she has had about five ab0rtions herself, and expressing how liberating it felt to speak about the experience openly and without fear of judgment.

Allen reflected on one particular instance, recalling how the man involved had paid for the ab0rtion. “At the time, I thought it was quite romantic,” she said, though she added that he never contacted her again afterward. She later dismissed the encounter with characteristic bluntness, saying, “I was a f***in’ crazy bitch — still am.”

Despite the raw honesty, Allen made clear that motherhood remains a central part of her life. She is the mother of two daughters, Ethel and Marnie, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Sam Cooper.

The singer’s revelations add to a growing list of public figures using their platforms to normalize conversations around reproductive rights and ab0rtion, especially in the wake of global debates on bodily autonomy and access to healthcare.

“Lately, there have not been any negotiations with the government”- Makebi Zulu

Flip-Flopping Took Centre Stage

Lusaka | July 3, 2025

Late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s family spokesperson, Makebi Zulu, has refuted claims that meaningful negotiations have recently occurred between the family of the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu and the Zambian government.

He states that in the past negotiations authorities repeatedly shifted their positions on key issues, making it difficult to reach a lasting agreement.

Speaking live on SABC, Mr. Zulu began by extending condolences to the people of South Africa following the reported death of former Deputy President David Mabuza. He then addressed the ongoing impasse surrounding the burial of Zambia’s sixth Republican President, which has become a subject of national concern.

“Lately, there have not been any negotiations with the government,” Zulu stated.

“You may be aware that President Lungu passed on the 5th of June, and from the 6th of June, we engaged in conversations with the government. But every time we thought we had found common ground, the government changed its position on matters that were of concern to the family and indeed, issues that were of concern to the deceased himself before he died.”

https://youtu.be/17TItTlQ3xA?si=2Y_8_5BNc38-tKNJ

Mr. Zulu emphasized that while the family initially entered the talks in good faith, they were left increasingly frustrated.

“The problem we had was the government repeatedly shifting goalposts. Agreements would be made, only to be unmade the next day. This not only dishonors the memory of President Lungu, but it also puts the family in a very difficult position,” he said.

The revelation comes at a time when public anxiety and political tension continue to mount over the unresolved burial arrangements for the late former Head of State. President Lungu’s legacy, both contested and revered in various circles, remains central to the debate over how and where he should be laid to rest.

While government officials have maintained that they are open to dialogue, Mr. Zulu insists that the family has yet to see genuine efforts or consistent engagement to bring the matter to a dignified conclusion.

Mr. Zulu’s comments are expected to add pressure on President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration to demonstrate greater transparency, sensitivity, and resolve in dealing with the matter.

Community House remains safe, Faith didn’t even pass the entrance – Mwiimbu

What Did President Hakainde Hichilema want from Faith Musonda?

Community House remains safe, Faith didn’t even pass the entrance – Mwiimbu

MINISTER of Home Affairs and Internal Security Jack Mwiimbu has assured the country that President Hakainde Hichilema’s residence, the Community House, is safe and fully protected under tight security after reports that Faith Musonda had stormed the presidential home.

Speaking during a press briefing today, Mwiimbu revealed that there was no breach at President’s residence as Musonda did not gain entry into the house, the entire incident occurred outside along the roadside.

“Faith Musonda did not enter the premises of Community House. The incident happened outside along the road,” Mwiimbu stated.

In the early hours of Wednesday, while many were being cuddled in their blankets, Musonda, 41, reportedly decided to take her Toyota Fortuner for a spin straight to Community House.

The former television presenter arrived near the President’s residence in New Kasama around 00:30 hours, behaving in a bizarre and disorderly manner.

Officers, who wasted no time in confronting her, suspected that Musonda, no stranger to controversy, might have been under the spell of a few glasses of alcohol, leading to her unruly behaviour.

Once the same proud owner of K65 million in cash and a mansion worth K6 million, both seized by the State in past corruption cases, Musonda reportedly attempted to pick a fight with police officers before being detained.

Musonda is currently in police custody, facing charges of idle and disorderly conduct.

Meanwhile, Mwiimbu sent a strong warning to those with intentions of causing trouble near the Head of State’s home, saying law enforcement will not take chances with suspicious activities around the President’s residence.

He added that security around Community House remains tight and those who ignore boundaries will face the full force of the law.

Govt Clarifies Legal Process on Lungu Burial: No Malice, Only Public Interest

Govt Clarifies Legal Process on Lungu Burial: No Malice, Only Public Interest

By Sharon Siame

Minister of Information and Media, CORNELIUS MWEETWA, says the legal process surrounding the repatriation and burial of former President EDGAR LUNGU was initiated in the public interest.

Mr. MWEETWA emphasized that the matter is not malicious, nor is it intended to blackmail the LUNGU family into settling the case out of court. He stated that the Government remains committed to resolving the issue amicably.

He acknowledged that the courts may deliver a judgment that may not align with the wishes of the majority of Zambians, who prefer that the former President be laid to rest alongside the five other former Heads of State at the Presidential Burial Site.

Mr. MWEETWA noted that the Presidential Burial Site is a significant national monument, symbolizing Zambia’s unity and identity under the “One Zambia, One Nation” motto.

He further stated that President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA does not want to be remembered as the leader who abandoned the tradition of interring former presidents in a common resting place.

The Minister assured the nation that, regardless of how long the impasse may take, a resolution will be reached.

He also urged citizens, especially political players, to exercise restraint and avoid making inflammatory or divisive statements.

Additionally, he appealed to the media and the public to allow the LUNGU family space to mourn with honor and dignity, and to avoid generating headlines that could deepen public tensions.

“Tonga has overtaken Nyanja as the second most widely spoken language in Zambian households.”

Figure 10.1 presents the percentage distribution of the population by language of communication at
home, disaggregated by rural and urban residence.

Bemba emerged as the most spoken language
nationwide, accounting for 34.0 percent of the population. It was also the dominant language in
both rural and urban areas.

However, usage varied considerably: In urban areas, 46.7 percent of
people reported Bemba as their main language of communication at home. In rural areas, this figure
dropped to 23.8 percent.

Tonga was the second most commonly spoken language overall (12.8%), and more prevalent in rural
areas (18.2%) compared to urban areas. Nyanja followed with 11.4 percent usage, playing a more
prominent role in urban settings where 21.8 percent of the population used it at home.

Despite its status as the official national language, English was used by only 1.9 percent of the
population as a primary language of communication at home.

The majority of English speakers resided in urban areas (4.1%), while rural usage was minimal (0.1%).

Languages spoken by less than one percent of the population were grouped together and reported
under “Other languages.”

KALABA ASKS GOVT TO DROP COURT CASE AGAINST GRIEVING LUNGU FAMILY

KALABA ASKS GOVT TO DROP COURT CASE AGAINST GRIEVING LUNGU FAMILY
Citizens First Party leader, Harry Kalaba, has urged the government to withdraw the court case against late President Edgar Lungu’s family and allow them to put his remains to rest in South Africa.

Kalaba noted that the country needed healing, and that the family also needed closure but that this would only begin when the late President who died on June 5, 2025 in South Africa is allowed to rest in peace.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka on Wednesday at the party Secretariat, kalaba stated that the government through President Hakainde Hichilema squandered many opportunities to resolve the matter amicably.

“The CF is concerned about the standoff that has arisen following Lungu family’s desire to honor the wishes of the 6th Republican President, who requested that Mr. Hichilema not be allowed anywhere near his body,” he said.

Kalaba said while the party appreciated the need for Mr. Lungu’s remains to be laid to rest here in Zambia with full military honors, it also believed that the wishes of the family should be considered, and the President should do the same.

“A week ago, I reposted a video of President Lungu asking a simple question about the conduct of some people: “Is it witchcraft?” he asked. From where I stand, I am inclined to think that Mr. Hichilema must now tell the nation why he has insisted on seeing the body of the late President Lungu, a man he never acknowledged during his seven years in office,” he stated.

Kalaba said as if this was not enough, President Hichilema took the grieving family to court to compel them to release the body to the State so that government can preside over the funeral program—against his express wishes.

He stated that this was not just taboo but that it was also a source of shame and embarrassment for the country.

Kalaba also called on the Church to intensify their prayers, as such acts were akin to spiritual warfare, and demand a spiritual response.

“I further call upon citizens to continue praying for the Lungu family during these trying times. The family has gone through much and covets our prayers and support in whatever way we can offer it,” he said.

Kalaba also expressed concern with the recent announcement by the U.S. State Department placing Zambia among the countries subject to restrictions.

He said the party was aware that the two countries have enjoyed bilateral relations dating back decades and to see this relationship deteriorate to the point of restrictions was telling, and highlights the decline in governance standards.

If Dialogue Was the Goal, Why Did Government Sue Ba Mukamfwila?

Dragged from Her Mourning Mattress to the Cold Bench of a Pretoria Court

The family of the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has firmly and emotionally rejected the government’s proposal for mediation, describing it as insincere, poorly communicated, and disrespectful to their grief.

According to the Daily Nation Newspaper, “ECL FAMILY OPPOSES – says the Zambian government has not informed them what it exactly wants from the proposed mediation, states that they are not ready for an outside court settlement MEDIATION.”

And now, a burning question echoes in the hearts of many Zambians:

If dialogue was truly the goal all along, why did the government drag Ba Mukamfwila still wrapped in mourning to the cold benches of a Pretoria courtroom?

Why file a lawsuit against a grieving widow only to later sing songs of unity and reconciliation?

This is not just a contradiction.
This is a national shame.

For years, Zambians bore silent witness to a relentless campaign of humiliation and hostility directed at President Lungu:
1. He was mocked mercilessly. The phrase “kuntumompa uko” echoed through public discourse with impunity.
2. His morning jogs became a crime, as police stalked his every move.
3. He was threatened with vulgarity, including the vile suggestion that he be circumcised.

4. He was removed from a plane, humiliated internationally, despite official clearance and invitation.
5. He was allegedly denied medical access when his health was failing.
6. He was kicked out of a bishop’s office, simply for paying a spiritual courtesy call.

And now, suddenly, we are told:

“If we don’t bury ECL in Zambia, the world will laugh at us.”

Laugh at who?
Where was the world’s laughter when he was mocked, threatened, and mistreated?
Where was the moral outrage then?

This selective morality cannot stand.
The Zambian people cannot be expected to forget the pain inflicted on their former Head of State simply because it is now politically convenient to speak of “unity.”

We are not amnesiacs.

If the government is genuine about healing, it must begin by confronting the truth the truth of how it treated a man who once held the highest office in the land. It must acknowledge the pain it has caused, not just to President Lungu, but to his widow, his children, and the millions of supporters who looked up to him.

Because respect, like legacy, must not be seasonal.
It must be constant in life and in death.

You don’t slap a grieving widow, then extend a hand of peace.
You don’t sue, then call for dialogue.
You don’t shame a man, then ask to be his pallbearer.

Mediation… after court?
No. Finish what you started.

GOVT SAYS ZESCO CANNOT STOP POWER EXPORTS DUE TO ONGOING CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENTS

By Chamuka Shalubala

government says ZESCO cannot stop exporting power as it is currently under contractual obligations.

Addressing the media in Lusaka this morning, chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa says the amount of money ZESCO pay as a result of canceling power exports agreements is way more than what could be generated locally.

Mr. Mweetwa has however said only 190 megawatts of power is currently been exported to the region in a bid to meet contractual obligations.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mweetwa has revealed that cabinet approved the application and introduction of a bill in the national assembly that will see the increase of both high court and court of appeal judges.

He says it was agreed that the number of high court judges will increase from 60 to 100 whereas those from the court of appeal will increase from 19 to 31 judges, in a bid to address the challenge of backlog cases judges have been facing recently.

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA CAUTIONS AGAINST USING ETHNICITY AND RELIGION TO JUSTIFY THEFT

By Nelson Zulu

President Hakainde Hichilema has called on Zambians to stop glorifying individuals involved in theft, particularly when excuses are made along ethnic or religious lines.

Speaking at state house this morning when he swore in five Permanent Secretaries, an ambassador, and the new Deputy Auditor General, President Hichilema highlighted that this troubling trend often surfaces when investigations are launched into corruption cases.

He has urged the public to recognize that criminal behavior should never be defended based on tribal or religious affiliations.

The president also stressed the importance of integrity in public service, calling on the newly appointed officials to prioritize national interest over personal gain.

He pointed to the ongoing issue of drug pilferage, particularly within the ministry of health, as a significant obstacle to the country’s development.

Meanwhile, the head of state has urged newly appointed Deputy Auditor General Stella Nyonda to work on providing timely audits rather than ones that have surpassed time to ensure prompt guidance in national planning.

FAZ  BREAKS SILENCE ON FASHION SAKALA, CALLS FOR UNITY AND PATIENCE

FAZ  BREAKS SILENCE ON FASHION SAKALA, CALLS FOR UNITY AND PATIENCE

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Keith Mweemba has urged the public to refrain from speculating about Fashion Sakala’s absence from the senior men’s national team, stating that the team has not played any matches since the new executive assumed office.

Speaking in response to growing concerns, Mweemba emphasized that no player has been officially excluded and called for unity within the football fraternity.

He said individuals must exercise patience until the national team plays its first game under his administration before making assumptions about who has made it to the squad.

His remarks come amid renewed calls from traditional leaders, including Chief Mpezeni, who last week urged FAZ to reconcile with Sakala and reintegrate him into the Chipolopolo squad.

Sakala has remained absent from national duty following a public fallout with head coach Avram Grant, whom he accused of pressuring players to sign with Israeli agent Nir Karin in exchange for call-ups. Grant dismissed the allegations, stating it to be “total lies” and demanded an apology, which Sakala declined to offer.

Ahead of the 2025 FAZ elections, Sakala also accused former FAZ president Andrew Kamanga of betrayal, claiming he encouraged him to speak out against Grant.

Mweemba has since pledged to address the matter through dialogue, stating that reconciliation and discipline are key to moving forward.

APOLOGIES ON REPEAT: HICHILEMA THE FEARED MAN- Fred M’membe

APOLOGIES ON REPEAT: HICHILEMA THE FEARED MAN

Yesterday, State House aide Mr Frederick Misebezi rushed to unreservedly apologise to President Hakainde Hichilema on behalf of the people of Sesheke and Katimamulilo districts over what he termed as unfortunate remarks by Sesheke MP Mr Romeo Kang’ombe about the Faith Musonda issue. And guess what? Mr Kang’ombe also quickly apologised. What a circus!

Is this what working for Mr Hichilema has come to?

It’s clear that to work with or for Mr Hichilema, critical thinking seems unnecessary. The role appears reduced to praise-singing and worship.

Just observe how full-grown adults, holding positions of responsibility are so terrified of the man to the extent of scrambling to out-apologise each other. They’re too scared to think for themselves. As such, they’re prepared to publicly make a mockery of themselves.

It is said that when fear rules, creativity dies and so does productivity, growth and good governance. Mr Kang’ombe never said anything to warrant an apology but he was compelled to apologize after Mr Hichilema’s aide apologized on his behalf. Where have you ever seen such a thing? Is this normal behavior? It’s shameful to say the least.

What the public has been told about Faith’s presence at Mr Hichilema’s house at 01:00hrs doesn’t make sense at all. There are still many questions about this issue seeking honest answers. Uno mwaka twala mona ifingi! Tabale lala. Fyakuifwaila!

By the way, how far has the police gone with finding those who were allegedly endorsing Mr Garry Nkombo for 2026? Another circus!

Mr Hichilema must know that being feared is not leadership. Real leadership lies on trust, respect and open communication.

No wonder this government is underperforming. The President is feared by many, and no one is prepared to tell him the truth. Evidently, Mr Hichilema is an emperor without clothes and no one dares to say a word. His, is a government based on fear, not respect, creativity, growth and innovation. Shame!

HICHILEMA SHALL NOT GET MY VOTE IN 2026 HE HAS BETRAYED ME – SANGWA

TRUSTED CONSTITUTIONAL lawyer John Sangwa says he will not vote for President Hakainde Hichilema in 2026 because the Head of State has betrayed his trust by attempting to amend the Constitution.

Sangwa says Zambia does not need any form of Constitution amendment at the moment.

Speaking on ‘Millennium Tonight,’ Tuesday, Sangwa said he did not vote for President Hichilema so he could change the Constitution, but to improve the social and economic status of the country.

He stated that politicians must know that bad decisions had consequences but Zambians were at liberty to make their own decisions.

For me he is not getting my vote along with the Member of Parliament, for me he has betrayed me, I don’t know about others.
