Benni McCarthy to land Kenya national team coaching job

Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy is preparing for the next phase of his coaching career after reaching a preliminary agreement to lead Kenya’s national team.

The move comes following his departure from English Premier League giants Manchester United at the end of last season.

He had served as a first-team coach specialising in strikers under now former manager Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

Appointment was delayed
According to the Kenya-based Mozzart Sport website, McCarthy is set to arrive in Kenya on Wednesday, with his official unveiling scheduled for Friday next week.

The South African coach was identified as the new Harambee Stars tactician last December, but the process of formalising his appointment was delayed.

However, the wait is nearly over.

A source within the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) confirmed that all preparations have been finalised ahead of McCarthy’s arrival.

“He is flying to Nairobi this coming Wednesday. Everything regarding his appointment has been completed, and we have tentatively scheduled his unveiling for Friday,” the source said.

McCarthy’s appointment comes at a crucial time, with the World Cup qualifiers against Gambia and Gabon on 17 and 24 March, respectively.

Once officially appointed, McCarthy will immediately begin preparing the national team for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Missed out on Afcon qualifying
The Harambee Stars missed out on qualification for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Morocco and currently sit fourth in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying group, with five points from four matches.

“As the president mentioned earlier, Francis Kimanzi was only an interim coach. The new head coach will be in charge of the matches against Gabon and Gambia. After his unveiling, he will work alongside several identified local coaches to prepare for the games. We need to be ready to compete,” the source added.

There is still uncertainty regarding whether McCarthy will also handle the CHAN tournament in August or if local coaches will take charge of those games.

The source clarified that a decision would be made later, as the immediate focus is the March international break.

Earlier this year, FKF president Hussein Mohammed reassured fans that the federation was committed to finding the best candidate for the national team.

“FKF is working to appoint a substantive coach and a competent technical bench to help us achieve our objectives. That’s why the current technical bench was appointed on an interim basis. We will provide an update on the new coach once all the details are finalized,” Hussein said at the time.

He also emphasised the importance of getting the appointment right, especially considering the financial challenges FKF has faced with previous coaches.

“We have had issues with paying coaches in the past, and we don’t want to repeat those mistakes,” he noted.

Coaching CV
Benni McCarthy’s appointment is seen as a significant step for Kenya, a nation eager to reclaim its stature in African football.

McCarthy’s coaching CV also includes managerial stints in South Africa’s PSL with Cape Town City FC and AmaZulu FC.

McCarthy, now 47, played 79 matches for Bafana Bafana between 1997 and 2012, scoring a record 31 goals.

A look at the latest FIFA rankings shows that Kenya are ranked 25th in Africa and 108th in the world.

Fatal Frugality: Wife Fatally Stabs Husband Over $1 Price Difference For A Gas Cooker

0

A wife fatally stabs her husband during a fight over a mere $1 for a gas cooker. The man from Sally Mugabe Heights has tragically lost his life after a heated argument with his wife over a mere US$1.

Liberty Takaza, 39, was stabbed twice in the chest and shoulder by his wife, Prisca Takaza, 29, during the altercation. The incident occurred on Wednesday, and Liberty succumbed to his injuries at Parirenyatwa Hospital.

The argument was sparked by a gas cooker that Liberty had purchased for US$5. Prisca had budgeted for a cooker costing US$4 and was upset that Liberty had spent an extra dollar. This seemingly minor financial disagreement escalated into a violent confrontation.

Wife kills husband over $1: Details of the Altercation
According to Harare provincial deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Faith Mapisa, Liberty returned home intoxicated late on Thursday night. He had purchased the gas cooker top for US$5, which Prisca found unacceptable. The couple began arguing while in bed, and the situation quickly deteriorated.

Liberty accused his wife of various issues, leading to a heated exchange. The argument turned physical when Liberty began choking Prisca. In the struggle, they fell to the floor near a dish full of kitchen utensils. In a moment of desperation, Prisca grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Liberty twice—once in the right side of the chest and once in the right shoulder.

Aftermath and Legal Consequences
Liberty sustained severe injuries and bled profusely. He was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Prisca has since been arrested and is facing murder charges. The couple, who were married, had a history of domestic disputes, but none had previously escalated to this level of violence.

Police Statement
Assistant Inspector Faith Mapisa provided a detailed account of the incident, confirming that Prisca is in custody and will be charged with murder.

“The accused person and the deceased were related as wife and husband. The argument began over the cost of a gas cooker top and escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in the tragic death of Liberty Takaza”

TONSE ALLIANCE RESPONSE TO THREATS ISSUED BY PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA DURING THE N’CWALA TRADITIONAL CEREMONY, AGAINST SOCIAL MEDIA USERS

TONSE ALLIANCE RESPONSE TO THREATS ISSUED BY PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA DURING THE N’CWALA TRADITIONAL CEREMONY, AGAINST SOCIAL MEDIA USERS

Liberty House, 24th February 2025

1. The TONSE ALLIANCE is compelled to respond to the threats that were issued by President Hakainde Hichilema, in his keynote speech, during the celebration of the N’cwala Traditional Ceremony at Mutenguleni in Chipata of the Eastern Province of Zambia, on Saturday, 22nd February 2025.

2. First and foremost, the President has no moral pedestal to stand on and condemn social media abuse, for as long as he remains a beneficiary of rogue social media pages such as Koswe, Zambian Bulletin and Zambia Watchdog, which insult, defame and disparage his perceived political opponents on a daily basis, without attracting the wrath of neither ZICTA nor the condemnation of the President himself.

3. Our advice to the Zambian people is to disregard the threats issued by President Hakainde Hichilema and treat them as rantings of an outgoing President, who has realized, albeit too late, that the Zambian people want him out of office next year, due to his perennial dismal performance so far. As a response to his realization that he is on the way out next year, President Hakainde Hichilema has now resorted to threatening the Zambian people, so as to gag them and instill fear in them, so that they should be afraid to freely talk about the failures of his outgoing UPND administration.

4. This ploy of seeking to threaten citizens from freely using social media, is in addition to the President’s other unscrupulous  initiatives such as obtaining endorsements from persons of a moral standing comparable to his own, such as Chabinga. As TONSE ALLIANCE, our message to President Hakainde Hichilema is simple; none of these desperate, last minute attempts, will have any impact to derail or reverse the will of the Zambian people in next year’s general election.

5. As TONSE ALLIANCE, our advice to the Zambian people is to disregard the threats issued by President Hakainde Hichilema, and continue to use social media as they see fit. In seeking to determine what is appropriate social media content, the Zambian people are advised to use the standard set by President Hakainde Hichilema’s affiliated social media pages such as Koswe, Zambian Bulletin and Zambia Watchdog.

6. Until such a time that either ZICTA or Zambia Police take action and arrest the administrators of President Hakainde Hichilema’s affiliated social media pages; Koswe, Zambian Bulletin and Zambia Watchdog, the Zambian people should take the content that is published on these social media pages as the national standard of permissible social media content. Any double standards which President Hakainde Hichilema or his Government may seek to impose on the Zambian people, should be rejected with the contempt that it deserves.

7. The TONSE ALLIANCE further wishes to take this opportunity to advise the organizers of the N’cwala Traditional Ceremony, not to abuse the ceremony to peddle narratives of the UPND party. N’cwala is a ceremony for all Ngonis, regardless of their political affiliation. It is not a ceremony for UPND Ngonis only. Therefore it is wrong to use N’cwala as a platform for seeking to resucitate the dwindling political fortunes of the UPND party.

8. Lastly, the TONSE ALLIANCE wishes to assure President Hakainde Hichilema that, regardless of his last minute unscrupulous initiatives, the Zambian people are resolute to vote him out of office next year. For 15 years, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema cried for state power. But when it was finally bestowed on him by the Zambian people in 2021, he decided to abuse it and focus on personal enrichment, at the expense of the Zambian economy and it’s people. Therefore, our advice to President Hakainde Hichilema is that, instead of further alienating himself from people, by issuing morally unsound threats, the President should utilize his remaining 17 months in office to reconcile with the Zambian people so that they may forgive him when he leaves office next year.

PF SUFFERS MAJOR BLOW AS ENTIRE CHILELE WARD EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE IN KALABO DISTRICT DEFECTS TO  UPND
————————————————-
23/2/25

The UPND Western Province Presidential Campaign Team led by Coordinator General Max Kasabi and his team, were in Chilele Ward of Kalabo District on a mobilization campaign trail of some Wards in Kalabo.

Coordinator General Kasabi told the crowd which included area Indunas, that President Hakainde Hichilema is indeed the best leader ever for Zambia as he has a heart for everyone particularly the vulnerable in society.

” President Hichilema has done many good things to uplift the lives of you people who live in far flung rural areas which wasn’t the case with previous administrations.

It’s for these reasons that all the people in Chilele Ward should reciprocate the President’s goodwill by giving him maximum votes in 2026″ he said.

Meanwhile PCT Chairlady Mwangala Sututu called on all the women and youths in Chilele Ward who are beneficiaries of President Hichilema’s social protection programs to vote for the President in next year’s polls for those programs and iniatives to continue.

At the same meeting, embattled former ruling party PF suffered yet another major setback as the entire PF Chilele Ward executive Committee led by Ward Chairman Kufekisa Njekwa ditched PF and defected to UPND.

Receiving the defectors on behalf of the Kalabo District Chairman Samuel Masiye, Chilele Ward Chairman Erick Chani Chani expressed happiness and welcomed the defectors, and told them to feel free  in the party as UPND is led by a great leader who wants the best for every Zambian.

And speaking on behalf of the defectors Ward Vice Youth Treasurer Erick Nyumbu who represented the Ward Chairman said it was not possible to keep on opposing and fighting a President who is doing everything possible to improve people’s lives, especially free education and recruitment of so many teachers and healthcare workers.

Speaking in a vote of thanks on behalf of other area Indunas, Senior Induna Mutaami thanked the Presidential Campaign Team for visiting Chilele to spread the President’s message of togetherness and love for one another.
“I want to assure our President on behalf of all the area Indunas in Chilele Ward of our support because of his good leadership.

It’s our wish that the constitution is amended so that this wonderful President can continue beyond the stipulated two terms”. the Senior said.

THE CHURCH, THE STATE, AND THE SELECTIVE CRUSADE AGAINST “HATE”

THE CHURCH, THE STATE, AND THE SELECTIVE CRUSADE AGAINST “HATE”

By Linda Banks ©

Dr. Nevers Mumba, I read your article with great interest. As a man of the cloth, one would expect a sermon of fairness, a homily of justice, and perhaps a reminder of the Beatitudes—“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.” Instead, we got a fire-and-brimstone attack on young people, conveniently wrapped in a pseudo-moral crusade against “hate speech.”

Let’s dissect this, shall we?

1. Christian Nation or Political Expediency?

You assert that Zambia cannot be both a Christian nation and a place where hate speech is tolerated. Convenient. But where was this righteous indignation when past regimes used state machinery to brutalize dissenters? Or when young Zambians were shot at for protesting injustices? Or when leaders enriched themselves while the youth remained unemployed and hopeless? Were those acts of love and Christian virtue?

If Zambia is truly a Christian nation, then it must embody all Christian principles—justice, humility, and fairness—not just selective moral outrage when power is at stake. Otherwise, we risk turning faith into a political branding exercise.

2. The Recycled Bourgeoisie and the Forgotten Youth

You lament about “badly brought up young people.” Interesting. Who raised them? Who has governed them? Who has denied them opportunities while recycling the same families into political power, ensuring that the “national cake” remains the delicacy of a privileged few?

History has taught us that young people do not stay silent when they feel betrayed. The end of colonial rule? Ushered in by young revolutionaries. The fall of dictatorial regimes across Africa? Led by youth movements. The Arab Spring? Students and unemployed graduates. The very movement that brought multiparty democracy to Zambia in 1991? Driven by an impatient youth demanding change.

Threatening or vilifying young people has never worked in history. It only fuels their resolve. You, as a former vice president, should know better.

3. The Real Threat: Isn’t just Social Media, but also injustice and political greed and hunger for remaining in power.

You call for traditional leaders, schools, and parents to join in silencing so-called purveyors of hate. But tell me, where is this collective call when young people demand jobs, quality education, or an end to corruption? Why is “moral outrage” reserved for social media criticism and not the actual suffering of Zambians?

The real “social sewer” isn’t Facebook . It’s the unchecked greed of those in power. It’s the widening gap between the haves and have-nots. It’s the silence of institutions when justice is denied. If the Church is to play a role, let it be one of justice, not just censorship.

So yes, let’s fight hate speech. But let’s also fight poverty. Let’s fight corruption, let’s fight nepotism and  Let’s fight the idea that leadership is a birthright for a select few while the rest of the nation watches from the sidelines. Because if history has proven anything, it’s that when the youth rise, no amount of threats or sermons can stop them.

Choose your battles wisely pastor.

UPND WALKOUT SPARKS DEBATE ON ITS COMMITMENT TO COST-OF-LIVING CRISIS

UPND WALKOUT SPARKS DEBATE ON ITS COMMITMENT TO COST-OF-LIVING CRISIS

…had the debate been about increasing parliamentary allowances, UPND lawmakers would have remained in the chamber says the Socialist Party

Lusaka… Monday February 24, 2025

UPND Members of Parliament have come under criticism following their decision to stage a walkout during a parliamentary debate on the cost-of-living crisis.

The move has been widely condemned, with some observers arguing that it reflects the party’s disconnect from the struggles of ordinary citizens.

In a statement, Socialist Party (SP) Deputy General Secretary for Political Affairs, Faston Mwale, described the walkout as a “walk of shame” that had lowered the moral standing of the ruling party.

He stated that the UPND had demonstrated an elitist attitude by refusing to engage in discussions that primarily affect the working class and the poor.

Mr Mwale suggested that if the debate had been about increasing parliamentary sitting allowances, UPND lawmakers would have remained in the chamber with enthusiasm.

He further argued that the UPND’s refusal to participate in the debate was a clear indication that the party was not genuinely concerned about the welfare of the struggling masses.

He pointed out that Zambia was experiencing a severe economic crisis, with millions of citizens living on less than $2.15 a day.

“How is it that in a country blessed with vast natural wealth and a genial populace, 12.6 million people are subsisting on less than $2.15 a day? Against this backdrop, we have a crop of leaders and their cronies that are becoming disproportionately richer than what their incomes and earnings permit,” Mr Mwale stated.

The walkout, he said, signaled that the ruling party was unwilling to address the growing poverty, hunger, and social exclusion affecting large sections of the population.

Mr Mwale disclosed that the government is detached from the everyday realities faced by ordinary citizens, noting that despite Zambia’s natural wealth, economic hardship had worsened.

He stated that while the majority of Zambians were struggling to afford basic necessities, some government officials and their associates were accumulating wealth at an alarming rate.

According to him, corruption, wastage of state resources, and abuse of public wealth were becoming increasingly prevalent under the UPND administration.

Reflecting on the party’s promises during the 2021 general elections, Mr Mwale reminded the public that the cost-of-living crisis had been a key issue in the UPND’s campaign.

He criticized the party for now refusing to debate the very issue that helped it rise to power, attributing the worsening economic situation to what he called “harsh neo-liberal economic policies.”

Mr Mwale urged the UPND leadership to reconsider its stance and recognize the consequences of its economic policies.

He warned that the implementation of these policies had created a new underclass, making life even more difficult for ordinary citizens.

He called on all Members of Parliament, including those from the ruling party, to engage in meaningful discussions and work towards finding a solution to the crisis.

While some have defended the UPND’s right to protest by walking out of the debate, Mr Mwale dismissed such arguments, claiming that their actions distorted the principles of democracy.

He insisted that lawmakers had a responsibility to address the economic challenges facing the nation rather than avoid critical discussions.

In his statement, Mr Mwale also rallied support for the Socialist Party and its leader, Dr. Fred M’membe, whom he described as a true defender of the struggling masses.

He called on Zambians to stand together and support M’membe’s leadership to bring about what he termed “progressive change.”

Mr Mwale concluded by asserting that the UPND had failed to govern effectively and should be removed from power.

He urged citizens not to lose hope despite the numerous challenges facing the country, emphasizing that now was the time to fight against economic exploitation and injustice.

NCWALA MUST REMAIN UNTAMED, UNDILUTED…must not be dimmed by political posturing

NCWALA MUST REMAIN UNTAMED, UNDILUTED

…must not be dimmed by political posturing.

By Njoya Mulonga Tembo MZIM

The Nc’wala Traditional Ceremony of the Ngoni people in Zambia is a grand spectacle of culture, history, and identity. Rooted in the warlike traditions of the Ngoni, the ceremony is a vibrant testament to our resilience and unyielding spirit. Hosted annually at Mtenguleni Village in the Eastern Province of Chipata town, it is a momentous occasion where the paramount chief, the Inkosi yama Nkosi, is honored, and the first harvest is celebrated.

The event draws thousands from across Zambia and beyond, eager to witness a living history unfold, experience the strength of Ngoni traditions, and partake in the collective pride of it’s people who have preserved their customs despite the passage of time.

In its evolution, Nc’wala has encountered various transitions, some progressive and others tainted by opportunists or setbacks. Initially, crowds gathered to the ceremony, drawn by the majestic display of Ngoni women in their traditional attire, a sight both revered and sensationalized. However, authorities soon intervened, curbing excesses to maintain the dignity of the occasion.

A turning point came when musician Potiano Kaiche was caught on camera engaging in unwarranted theatrics with his guitar strumming fingers, prompting swift action to restore decorum and protect the integrity of the event. Yet, just as one issue was resolved, another is sprouting fast and furious.

With people from diverse backgrounds flying and driving to Zambia’s easternmost region, the Nc’wala ceremony has unfortunately become a stage for political opportunism. These elements, lacking genuine grassroots support, exploit the cultural gathering to seek political mileage.

Tourists and international visitors, expecting an authentic African cultural showcase, are left bewildered, wondering whether they have stepped into a traditional event or an impromptu political rally. “No, this is not a political event,” we try to assure them, but the endless party sloganeering and empty rhetoric paint a different picture. Our society is being systematically bruised by transient leadership, accustomed to dismantling strong institutions for short-term gains. First, it was political parties cannibalizing each other; now, the target is the very foundation of our heritage…our traditional ceremonies.

Yet, at its core, the Nc’wala ceremony remains a mesmerizing display of Ngoni heritage. Picture the rhythmic pounding of drums echoing through the Mtenguleni’s fauna and flora, their deep reverberations summoning warriors and villagers alike to the sacred grounds. The ululations of the women rise in harmony, a chorus of joy and pride. Bare-chested men, clad in traditional animal skins, leap high into the air, their feet landing with a thundering stomp that sends dust spiraling into the golden sun almost covered by rainy clouds. Their spears and shields glisten as they simulate ancient war dances, a handful pimped by kopala stunts, their movements fierce and precise, a reminder of the battles fought and the victories won. The air is thick with the scent of burning wood, roasted meat, and the raw energy of a people dancing not just for entertainment but as an act of remembrance, a tribute to their forefathers.

This is the essence of our traditions—untamed, undiluted, and deeply meaningful. It must be preserved, not hijacked. If those in political office wish to engage, let them do so respectfully, as guests paying homage to culture, not as intruders seeking a moment of fame. The Nc’wala ceremony belongs to the people so is the Kuomboka of the Lozi, Ukusefye pa’ngwena of the Bemba, Mbambala of the Nsenga Luzi etc, and it must remain that way. It is not merely an event; it is the heartbeat of a proud people, an enduring link between past and present, and a beacon of identity that must not be dimmed by political posturing.

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA IMPRESSED WITH PRIVATE SECTOR INVOLVEMENT IN URBAN SECTOR DEVELOPMENT IN EGYPT

February 23rd, 2025

CAIRO, EGYPT – President Hakainde Hichilema has kick started his two day state visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt with a visit and tour of the new Kairo which includes the city’s new administrative district as well as the construction site of the iconic 78 floor tower.

President Hichilema who was welcomed by Egypt’s Agriculture Minister Alaa El deen Farouk at the Cairo International Airport took time to appreciate the construction of the new city under the private sector under the public Private Partnership covering an area of more than 400,000 square meters.

The new city urban development project includes the construction of the cabinet building and much houses all government ministries and departments, residential housing units, religious buildings as well as the iconic 78 floor tower which stands to be Africa’s tallest building.

President Hichilema who could not hide his excitement at the marvel of the new city said it was gratifying to note that the urban development was privately financed without any contribution from the national treasury, a policy he added that his administration was vigorously pursuing through the PPP model of financing.

The President who is on the visit accompanied by Infrastructure Minister Charles Milupi, Commerce Minister Mulenga Chipoka, his Livestock counterpart Peter Kapala and Water and Sanitation Minister Collins Nzovu as well as other heads of government departments said his administration believes that private participation in especially capital projects was the most effective way towards sustainable infrastructure development.

He said this will leave the treasury with enough money to deal with more pressing socioeconomic sectors such as health, education and agriculture which will in turn reduce the poverty levels especially at community and family levels.

The President and his entourage is tomorrow expected at the Presidential palace for a series of bilateral talks that will culminate into the signing of a number of legal instruments where full honors will be accorded before departure for business forum hosted by the Zambia Development Agency ( ZDA) and a visit to an animal vaccine research institute.

He will wind up his visit on Tuesday with a tour of the civilization museum and a visit to the world and historical acclaimed pyramids of Giza before return back home.

The President’s visit according to Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Mulambo Haimbe is part of the UPND administration’s bilateral and economic diplomatic policy aimed at positioning Zambia as an important economic hub.

Zimbabwe Prepares to Launch ZimSat-3 and Several More Satellites in Major Space Milestone

Zimbabwe Prepares to Launch ZimSat-3 and Several More Satellites in Major Space Milestone

Zimbabwe is gearing up to launch its third earth observation satellite, ZimSat-3, as part of a broader strategy to harness space technology for national development.

This latest addition to the country’s growing satellite fleet will join ZimSat-1 and ZimSat-2, which were launched in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

The Zimbabwe National Geospatial and Space Agency (ZINGSA) has confirmed that multiple satellite projects are underway, each designed to address specific challenges facing the nation.

From improving communication networks to predicting droughts and mapping human settlements, these satellites aim to bring tangible benefits to everyday life.

ZimSat-3: A Tool for Transformation
ZimSat-3 is set to build on the successes of its predecessors, offering enhanced capabilities in mineral exploration, environmental monitoring, and disaster prediction.

Painos Gweme, ZINGSA’s director-general, emphasized the importance of real-time earth observation data, which is critical for tasks like crop yield analysis, soil erosion monitoring, and tracking environmental changes.

“Our goal isn’t just to launch satellites into space. It’s to ensure these satellites address Zimbabwe’s specific needs. For example, we currently lack real-time earth observation capabilities that provide updated images every few hours. ZimSat-3 will help fill that gap.”

Solving Everyday Problems from Space
While the technical achievements of Zimbabwe’s space programme are impressive, its true value lies in its practical applications. The upcoming communication satellites aims to tackle everyday challenges like poor network coverage and limited internet access.

“People need reliable communication—network coverage, internet access, and the ability to call each other. These are the kinds of challenges we aim to solve with our upcoming satellites.”

Upgrading Ground Infrastructure
To support its expanding satellite fleet, ZINGSA has also upgraded the Mazowe Ground Control Station, equipping it to handle advanced frequency bands. This upgrade set to enhance Zimbabwe’s ability to communicate with its satellites and process the data they collect.

Zim teachers reject ‘maternity wards’ in schools

Zimbabwe’s teachers’ unions have expressed strong reservations about the newly-gazetted education regulations, highlighting potential challenges in their implementation, particularly with regard to supporting pregnant learners and maintaining discipline in schools.’

The government recently introduced a Statutory Instrument that prohibits schools from expelling students for non-payment of fees or the absence of a birth certificate. The regulations also require school heads to provide psychosocial support for pregnant girls, allowing them to continue their education throughout pregnancy and return after giving birth.

While acknowledging some positive aspects of the policy, Raymond Majongwe, Secretary-General of the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ), criticized the decision to allow pregnant learners to remain in school. He argued that this undermines discipline and could make schools unmanageable.

“While there are some positive takeaways from the recently gazetted education regulations, such as the protection of the girl child and ensuring that the impregnated girl is not the only one punished by banishing her from attending school while the perpetrator is left free, there are some provisions that raise more questions than answers,” Majongwe said.

He went on to suggest that the regulations risk rewarding indiscipline by offering special treatment to pregnant learners instead of reinforcing discipline. “A learner who gets pregnant is ‘rewarded’ by being given special care rather than emphasising discipline,” Majongwe remarked. “If a child engages in sex, it is grounds for expulsion from school, but if they get pregnant as a result of that sex, they are to be given psychosocial support and asked to remain in school.”

Majongwe also raised concerns about the need for teachers to be adequately trained to handle these new provisions. He questioned whether the government would provide the necessary training to enable educators to support pregnant learners effectively. “Psychosocial support, as mentioned in the document, is no mean task,” Majongwe said, pointing out that it would require specialized skills.

In addition to these concerns, Majongwe highlighted the growing pressure on teachers, who are already struggling to manage curriculum demands such as school-based projects. The new regulations would add to teachers’ burdens by expecting them to create “maternity wards” to accommodate pregnant learners who may experience complications while at school.

Financial issues were also raised, with Majongwe pointing out that schools heavily rely on fees for their operations and infrastructure development. He accused the government of using controversial policy changes to divert attention from more pressing matters, such as improving teachers’ salaries. “The last Beam payment was received in 2022, and some schools are on the brink of collapse,” he said.

Zimbabwe Teachers’ Association National Secretary-General Goodwill Taderera shared similar concerns, agreeing with Majongwe that the new regulations could strain an already struggling education system.

Both unions are calling for a more realistic approach to education reform, with a focus on improving teacher welfare, resource allocation, and the overall quality of education. Taderera also emphasized the importance of addressing the broader issues that affect the education sector, including teacher salaries, infrastructure, and resources.

As the debate over the new education regulations continues, teachers’ unions are urging the government to reconsider the implications of these policies on the day-to-day functioning of schools and the well-being of both students and educators.

Ukraine Begs America For Help After Suffering Largest Drone Attack From Russia

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday, said the country suffered its largest drone attack since the start of Russia’s invasion of the country, with 267 attack drones launched overnight.

The assault, which took place on the eve of the war’s third anniversary, targeted multiple regions across Ukraine, leaving casualties and widespread destruction.

In a statement released on X on Sunday, Zelenskyy described the mass drone strike as an “aerial terror,” involving Iranian-made drones.

According to him, Russia launched nearly 1,150 attack drones, over 1,400 guided aerial bombs, and 35 missiles at Ukraine, within the last one week.

Ukrainian officials revealed that though Ukraine’s air defense forces managed to intercept and destroy 138 drones, the attack still caused considerable damage in at least five regions—Dnipro, Odesa, Poltava, Kyiv, and Zaporizhzhia.

In Kyiv, multiple fires broke out after due to the drone impacts, and in Kherson, a strike on a residential building killed two people, including a mother of twins. In Kryvyi Rih, another person was killed, and three were wounded, while a 53-year-old woman was hospitalized in Zaporizhzhia after being injured by a drone strike, Ukrainian officials stated.

Zelenskyy renewed his call for increased air defense support from Ukraine’s Western allies, stating that “everyone capable of helping with air defense must work to enhance the protection of human life.

“We must do everything possible to bring a lasting and just peace to Ukraine. This is achievable through the unity of all partners, we need the strength of all of Europe, the strength of America, the strength of everyone who seeks lasting peace.”

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, also called on the international community to take a harder stance against Russia.

He urged world leaders to “look at Putin’s actions, not his words,” arguing that the drone assault was proof of Russia’s continued aggression.

While Moscow has yet to comment on the scale of its attack, the Russian Defense Ministry on Sunday, claimed to have shot down 20 Ukrainian drones launched into Russian territory overnight.

Premier League Title Chase Over – Arteta Laments After West Ham Defeat

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has admitted that the Premier League title race is now out their hands following a disappointing 1-0 loss to West Ham at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

The Gunners missed the opportunity to close the gap on table-toppers Liverpool ahead of their clash against Manchester City on Sunday.

Jarrod Bowen scored the only goal of the encounter with a thumping header to end West Ham’s four match winless run.

It was the first time Arsenal had trailed in a home Premier league game at half-time this season, but the hosts failed to get going in the encounter, lacking the firepower to trouble West Ham.

Arsenal’s Lewis-Skelly was sent off for dragging Kudus to the floor to stop a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Liverpool will go 11 points clear with a victory against Man City on Sunday with 12 games to go.

He said: “It’s not in our hands. I’m really really annoyed of the things that were in our hands.

“It’s very painful. First of all, I congratulate West Ham for the victory. From our side, I’m very disappointed. For big parts of the game, our performance level was nowhere near what we needed to beat them. Obviously, there were a lot of factors during the game that made it even more difficult.

“Even with 10 men, we tried, we put in a lot of energy, but we lacked a lot of precision and a lot of quality. We have to be very disappointed with what happened today and especially how it happened but there’s a long way, there are still 12 games to go. There’s a lot to play for, we’re still in February, and what happened today can happen to any team. All we can control is what we do.”

West Ham recorded just their second victory under Graham Potter, the former Chelsea manager was full of praise for his players for their committed performance.

He said: : “It’s a massive three points for us. It was a really committed performance, I thought the players were amazing and stuck to our task really well. They were tactically disciplined. The players, while not being perfect, were close to it in terms of their efforts, their intentions and their understanding of what we’re trying to do. I’m delighted for them and the supporters because it’s a big win for us.”

Arsenal’s defeat ended their 15-match unbeaten run in the Premier League, while it was also the first time they’ve lost a Saturday 3pm game in the competition since April 2022 against Southampton (W14 D3 before today).

The Gunners will be back in action against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, while West Ham will take on Leicester City on Thursday.

The victory leaves West Ham in the 16th position on the same points with Manchester United in 15th but the Red Devils are ahead because of goal difference.

513 Youths and Women Defect from UPND to Socialist Party in Chawama

513 Youths and Women Defect from UPND to Socialist Party in Chawama

Chawama, Lusaka — In a bold political move, more than 500 youths and women have defected from the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) to join the opposition Socialist Party.

The mass defection, which took place at a public event in Chawama yesterday, marks a growing wave of political discontent and signals a shift in grassroots support ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Welcoming the new members, Socialist Party’s Chawama Constituency Chairman Nickson Nyirenda, alongside National Youth Deputy Spokesperson Lusambo Sconel, expressed gratitude for the defectors’ decision to align with a party they described as “the voice of the voiceless.”

“Today, you have made a courageous choice to join a movement that stands with the people,” said Sconel. “The Socialist Party is the only hope for Zambians — a party committed to reclaiming our future and fighting for economic justice.”

The event also saw National Youth Vice Secretary Bravo Mulenga rally the new members to remain steadfast, assuring them that the Socialist Party is a home for all, particularly for marginalized groups like women and youth.

“A Socialist Party victory in 2026 is not just for the party — it is a victory for every struggling Zambian. Together, we will build a nation where opportunities are shared, and the economy works for everyone, not just the privileged few,” Mulenga declared.

The defectors, led by their appointed representatives, voiced their deep dissatisfaction with President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND government.

They cited unfulfilled campaign promises and the worsening cost of living as key reasons for their departure.

“We believed in President Hichilema’s vision, but the reality on the ground is different. Prices of essential goods keep rising, and life is becoming unbearable for ordinary Zambians. We feel betrayed,” they stated.

THE INDIVIDUAL PF MPs  WHO ENDORSED PRESIDENT HH ALSO ENDORSED LOSING UPND CANDIDATE IN PETAUKE CENTRAL- MUNDUBILE

THE INDIVIDUAL PF MPs  WHO ENDORSED PRESIDENT HH ALSO ENDORSED LOSING UPND CANDIDATE IN PETAUKE CENTRAL- MUNDUBILE.

……….urges UPND to respect traditional ceremonies and not turn them into political events

Lusaka………Sunday, 23 February 2025 (Smart Eagles)

Patriotic Front Mporokoso Member of Parliament Hon Brian Mundubile has charged that some Political endorsement are laughable as they tend to bring bad luck.

This comes after some individual UPND aligned PF MPs yesterday openly declared their endorsement to President Hakainde Hichilema.

Commenting on this matter, Hon Mundubile said the same individuals who have endorsed President Hichilema also recently endorsed UPND candidate in the  Petauke Central by elections who lost terribly to a Tonse Alliance backed candidate.

“The results are there for all to see. What awaits for the UPND and President Hakainde Hichilema after those endorsements is akin to what happened in the petauke by elections. With all that excitement, it is laughable, the results are known.  I do not think the language will change from the people coming from other parts of the country.

Even for endorsement, one has to be careful who endoses them. I can give an example of the UPND candidate for petauke, on his own he stood a better chance, but because of the certain endorsement, he lost terribly. We do not think this will change, President Hichilema was performing badly and after those endorsement, it further reduces his chances because he already has poor ratings,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hon Mundubile advised the UPND to refrain from taking politics to traditional ceremonies, stating that these events should be respected and celebrated as cultural events.

He said that the President lost an opportunity to preach messages of unity by entertaining talks of endorsement and making political statements during the Nc’wala ceremony.

He said the Nc’wala ceremony is a significant cultural event, and introducing politics into it was a lost opportunity.

“Yesterday, the people that attended the Nc’wala were interested in one thing to understand the culture of the Ngoni people and other traditions of the Ngoni. But to use that platform to entertain some circus by some politicians wanting to endorse him was a lost opportunity,” he explained.

And Hon Mundubile also reminded the UPND that Zambia rejected a one-party state 34 years ago and that any attempts to revert to it should be condemned.

“The UPND must be reminded that 34 years ago, Zambians decided to reject a one party state. Many Zambians who were there, know that Zambia resounded rejected the one party state.

Any attempt to take Zambia back to one party state should be frowned upon. The attempt by the UPND to temper with the records or political parties at registrar of societies, moving from genuine bearers to other names will not change anything. The Zambian people have already decided and the rating of the current Government are very low,” he said.

HIGH COST OF LIVING: FREE COUNSEL TO THE VICE PRESIDENT – Saviour Chishimba

HIGH COST OF LIVING: FREE COUNSEL TO THE VICE PRESIDENT

I have watched the trending video of the Vice President in which she was talking about her government’s intervention to deal with the cost of living. Tellingly, there is no content in her explanation.

Madam, you are a leader of government business in the House. You are like a Prime Minister in the Westminster parliamentary system. The sacrosanct nature of government services to all citizens irrespective of colour, tribe, political affiliations, creed, religious beliefs and other factors naturally demands that you take all matters seriously and with much deliberation.

To be clear, filling the long overdue vacancies in the civil service is not job creation. In the same breathe, there is no government on earth that addresses the cost of living by creating jobs. The civil service structures have what is called the establishment. Sometimes vacancies are not filled up as per establishment. It is the duty of government to fill all vacancies in line with the civil service establishment.

Madam, job creation is primarily private sector driven in response to the pro-growth economic policies of government. Some of the government policies that spur growth include, inter alia, elimination of double taxation, incentivise growth sectors, reduce production input costs through stimulus packages or subsidies on a case by case basis, reduce the cost of fuel by eliminating unnecessary cost drivers in the cost plus model, stabilise electricity supply and provide export incentives.

One of the underutilised ministries is the ministry of local government and rural development. This Minstry can develop and execute an emergency style response and bring the unemployed youth together to accelerate industrial development for job creation in both urban and rural areas. The entrepreneurship culture of young people remains unharnessed.

Madam, the cost of living is truly very high in our country and things are getting out of hand. There is hunger and many working class families are failing to balance their budgets.

I recall that you were a deputy speaker under one of the best speakers of the National Assembly, Speaker Amusa Mwanamwambwa of blessed memory. He always ensured that government ministers were held accountable in the house. Speaker Mwanamwambwa more often than not said that backbenchers were allowed to be cantankerous, but the same was not applicable to ministers (the front bench).

The government of the day must be sober and listen to divergent views so that official responses can be made with a commitment by government to take action. That’s why there is a committee on government assurances at the National Assembly. You must be a voice of reassurances to all Zambians.

As leader of government business, take keen interest in all line ministries and help the president to get ministers to work. The hard working intelligence community cannot be the only one to report on issues on the ground. You must take a lead in gathering information for appropriate action in order to inspire confidence.

It clearly looks like there is no direction right now and this is deeply troubling. Incumbency must be defended by practical actions.

I remember how Hon. Vernon Mwaanga as Chief Whip reached out with humility to some of us at the backbench who took government to task on many issues. Outside the Chamber, he would engage us in constructive discussions to get our opinions on the best for the country.

As Vice President and leader of government business in the house, Hon. George Kunda SC of blessed memory was also very good at reaching out. Several times, Hon. Kunda sent notes to me and other controversial MPs right in the Chambers. Vice President R B Banda of blessed memory also did the same. Sometimes he would even use to chimbuya to talk to some of us who were always fearlessly speaking for the masses on the floor of the House. Truly government embraced some of the workable ideas from the backbench and in the final analysis our nation won. TOGETHER WE DID IT!

I have the honour to be,

Saviour Chishimba

Hichilema’s Hostile Takeover of PF: The Death of Democracy in Zambia- Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

Hichilema’s Hostile Takeover of PF: The Death of Democracy in Zambia

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

I recently watched a live stream from the Nc’wala Traditional Ceremony, where the Mafinga Member of Parliament, Robert Chabinga, made the bizarre and fraudulent claim that he is the President of the Patriotic Front (PF). What remains unclear to many is how he ascended to this position—except for the undeniable fact that the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND), under President Hakainde Hichilema, orchestrated this blatant illegality.

In the live stream, Chabinga went further to endorse President Hichilema for the 2026 elections and audaciously declared that PF had now entered into an alliance with the UPND. This was not only a calculated political maneuver but also a direct assault on Zambia’s multi-party democracy.

Hichilema’s Systematic Destruction of Zambia’s Democracy

The same scripted narrative was parroted on ZNBC—Zambia’s national broadcaster, which has now effectively become an extension of the UPND propaganda machine.

ZNBC quoted Chabinga as saying that he, along with PF structures and MPs, had thrown their support behind President Hichilema for the 2026 general elections. This was nothing short of a deliberate attempt to create the illusion that PF as a party had surrendered to UPND—a fabrication meant to mislead the Zambian people.

The truth is simple: No matter how hard President Hichilema tries to manipulate the system and impose Miles Sampa and now Robert Chabinga as PF Presidents, they will never be accepted as such. Their so-called leadership is a creation of the UPND regime, not the legitimate will of PF members.

But let this be a warning: One day, President Hichilema will be held accountable for his brazen attempts to destroy democracy, the rule of law, and the constitutional multi-party character of Zambia. His actions will not be forgotten, and justice will prevail.

Zambia’s independence and democracy were secured through blood, sweat, and sacrifice. Our forefathers and foremothers fought relentlessly to enshrine these rights in the Republican Constitution. They did not struggle for Zambia to be turned into a dictatorship by a power-hungry leader and his enablers.

But let it be known—those who are actively participating in this constitutional rape, including Jackie Mwiimbu, Nellie Mutti, Graphael Musamba, and Mwangala Zaloumis, will also be held to account. These individuals have chosen to serve as stooges of a regime that is openly undermining Zambia’s democratic foundations.

And let’s not forget the pawns—Robert Chabinga, ZNBC, and others—who are shamelessly aiding in the destruction of democracy. They, too, will not escape responsibility for their roles in this grand betrayal.

How the UPND Government Hijacked the PF Party

The UPND government, under President Hakainde Hichilema, has systematically hijacked the Patriotic Front, undermining its legitimate leadership and imposing their own puppets to weaken the opposition. This scheme began with the installation of Miles Sampa through a bogus convention on 24th October 2023, where he unilaterally declared himself PF President.

To ensure this illegality succeeded, the UPND government provided full state security to Sampa and even had ZNBC broadcast the fraudulent convention on national television. This was a clear case of government-sponsored political interference.

That very night, arrangements were secretly made to lift fingerprints, enabling the fraudulent change of PF’s legitimate office bearers in official records. The UPND’s direct involvement in this manipulation was unmistakable.

Following this, the legally recognized PF office bearers at the Registrar of Societies were forcibly replaced—another blatant act of political sabotage carried out with the assistance of UPND officials.

Miles Sampa, now emboldened by state backing, paraded himself as the legitimate PF President, and the UPND celebrated, knowing this was their plan all along. But when Sampa eventually fell out of favor with Hichilema, the regime swiftly discarded him like a used pawn.

The PF leadership was then handed over to Robert Chabinga, another puppet willing to play along with UPND’s scheme. His job? To continue the work of weakening and dismantling PF from within.

What we witnessed at the Nc’wala Ceremony, where Chabinga shamelessly endorsed President Hichilema for 2026 and declared that PF had entered into an alliance with UPND, was not a genuine political decision. It was simply another episode in President Hichilema’s grand script—an ongoing, calculated effort to completely neutralize the opposition through deception and illegality.

The Big Question: How Long Will Zambians Tolerate This Fraud?

What gives President Hichilema the audacity to engage in such blatant illegalities when he is bound by the Zambian Constitution? Does he truly believe that Zambians are so gullible as to support this political mediocrity?

This is not democracy—this is tyranny in disguise.

Zambians must wake up to the reality that our democracy is under siege. The opposition is being systematically dismantled, state institutions are being politicized, and constitutional laws are being trampled upon.

If we do not stand up now, what will be left of our democracy by 2026? Will we still have the right to choose our leaders, or will we be forced to accept whatever political charade Hichilema and his enablers impose on us?

The choice is ours. But history has taught us one thing—dictators never stop on their own. They must be stopped by the people. And Zambians must act before it is too late.

PF IN NORTH WESTERN DENIES ENDORSING HH AND THE UPND

PF IN NORTH WESTERN DENIES ENDORSING HH AND THE UPND

…we do not recognize Robert Chabinga as party president says Provincial Chairperson

Chavuma.. Sunday February 23, 2025 ( SMART EAGLES)

The Patriotic Front (PF) in North Western Province has distanced itself from claims that it has endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema and the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND).

In a statement issued by PF Chairperson for North Western Province, MCC Enock Kapalu, the party made it clear that it does not recognize the so-called endorsement made by Robert Chabinga and certain Members of Parliament from Eastern Province.

Mr Kapalu emphasized that the PF remains united under the leadership of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, who continues to be the only leader endorsed by the party’s Central Committee.

The PF official dismissed reports of an endorsement for Hichilema as mere “wishful thinking” and a distraction.

He further accused the ruling UPND of attempting to manipulate public perception by associating Chabinga with the opposition party.

According to MCC Kapalu, such tactics only demonstrate the desperation of the UPND as it struggles with waning popularity and increasing public dissatisfaction.

“We are disheartened, but not surprised, that the ruling party would stoop so low as to recognize Robert Chabinga as a leader of the PF,” Kapalu stated.

He added that the government should focus on addressing the real challenges affecting Zambians, including poverty, unemployment, and economic instability, rather than engaging in what he described as “futile attempts to fabricate support.”

Mr Kapalu urged President Hichilema and his government to shift their focus towards providing solutions for the people instead of seeking political distractions.

He insisted that the PF in North Western Province remains committed to supporting President Edgar Lungu and working towards a better future for the country.

ZAMBIAN ARMY SEEKS COURT ORDER TO EVICT SQUATTERS FROM MIKANGO LAND

ZAMBIAN ARMY SEEKS COURT ORDER TO EVICT SQUATTERS FROM MIKANGO LAND

The Zambia Army has waged a legal war at the Lusaka High Court, seeking a declaration that it is the rightful owner of the northern portion of Subdivision 1 of Farm No. 3208, located in Mikango area.

The Army is requesting the court to order the eviction of squatters occupying the land and the demolition of any structures they have built.

In its statement of claim, Colonel Charles Mulenga, a surveyor for the Zambia Army attached to the Ministry of Lands, explained that the land in question was originally held under freehold tenure by Lucy Van Renburg before being compulsorily acquired by the government in 1978.

The Ministry of Lands and Agriculture held the land until August 1, 2016, when it was leased to the Zambia Army under a Presidential lease.

According to Mulenga, following the lease, the Army discovered that illegal squatters had gradually encroached on the northern part of the land.

He noted that previous legal actions had been taken concerning the land, including Cause No. LAT/08/2011, which was settled through a consent agreement where the State agreed to subdivide the southern portion of the land and allocate it to claimants.

Additionally, Cause No. 2023/HP/1551, initiated by the Busoli Royal Establishment against the State and unknown individuals, resulted in an interim injunction against the squatters.

Despite these efforts, Mulenga stated that squatters not party to the settlement continue to encroach and build on the northern portion of the farm.

He believes it is in the best interest of the Zambia Army, as the registered proprietor of the land, to be granted the relief it seeks in the court application.

“I verily believe that it is necessary and in the best interest of the Zambia Army being the registered proprietor of this application to be granted,” stated Mulenga.

Kalemba,

ZEMA SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY OVER THE POLLUTION OF KAFUE RIVER – KASHINGA

ZEMA SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY OVER THE POLLUTION OF KAFUE RIVER – KASHINGA

…says the people whose farming fields were destroyed by acidic effluent from Sino Metals be given life long compensation

Mufulira… Sunday February 23, 2025

Socialist Party (SP) Copperbelt Provincial Vice Chairman Reagan Kashinga says the Government through Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) must take responsibility over the pollution of the Mwambashi Stream and Kafue River by Sino Metals Mine of Chambishi in Kalulushi.

And Mr. Kashinga has proposed that the people whose farming fields were destroyed by acidic effluent from Sino Metals be given life long compensation because the Kalusale environment will no support farming any time soon.

The pollution incident involving acidic effluent from Sino Metals tailings dam which burst last Tuesday destroyed crops from several farming fields belonging to peasant farmers and later contaminated the Mwambashi Stream and the Kafue River.

Mr. Kashinga said the pollution which has resulted in a critical water shortage in Kitwe and Kalulushi would have been avoided had ZEMA not approved substandard tailings dams being used by the mines in Chambishi.

He challenged the Ministry of Green Economy and ZEMA to explain why it was approving poorly built tailings dams which mining firms are using to store acidic liquids from copper ore processing.

“It is not common to see a well constructed tailings dam burst like it happened at Sino Metals in Chambishi. Therefore, the UPND Government through the Ministry of Green Economy and the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) must take the blame and responsibility over this pollution. We are aware that ZEMA officers have been approving poorly constructed tailings dams in Chambishi that do not have recommended two layer-systems,” Mr. Kashinga said.

“We challenge the Government through the Ministry of Green Economy and ZEMA to explain to the people of Zambia how the use of the poorly constructed Tailings Dam at Sino Metal was approved. The Chambishi pollution is as a result of negligence on the part of the Government and we can predict more pollution if ZEMA continues approving poorly constructed Tailings Dams in Chambishi and beyond. We are aware that there is another mine near NAMBOARD in Chambishi that is using unfit -Tailings Dam,” Mr. Kashinga said.

He urged the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to quickly provide food and water to the people of Kalusale in Chambishi who have been badly affected by pollution from Sino Metals.

“The Chambishi Pollution, is a disaster that needs urgent action from the Government to mitigate its impact on the people of Kalulushi and Kitwe who have had their sources of water contaminated with acidic mine effluent. Before we can even talk about compensation for the peasant farmers in Kalusale, the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) must come in quickly to provide food and water to the people of Kalusale, who are badly affected after their maize, groundnuts and vegetable fields were destroyed by the acidic pollutants. On Compensation the people of Kalusale need lifelong compensation from Sino Metals because their farming area will not support agriculture anymore following the destruction of the soil by acid,” Mr. Kashinga said.

“As Socialist Party in the Copperbelt Province, we say that it is impossible to reverse the adverse impact of this pollution incident, therefore we remind the people of Zambia to be mindful of the type of leaders they vote for. Every well meaning Zambian can see now that there are more problems in Zambia than good things under this outgoing regime.”

About the desperate UPND fake claims that the PF has endorsed them when not- Miles Sampa

22.02.2025

About the desperate UPND fake claims on the national public ZNBC TV that the PF has endorsed them when not.

A disrespect of the Judiciary by President HH that was present when Contempt of Court was being Committed yesterday.

MBS22.02.2025

Commiting contempt of court is one thing, commiting it in front of the Republican President is another and an embarrassment to the rule of law and separation of power for the Executive, Judiciary and Legislature (Parliament).

PF leadership matters are locked and active in the Courts of Zambia and up until they are fully disposed of, no one other than Miles Sampa has the seat of PF President. How we got there is a topic for another day and immaterial to the current disrespect of the Court. As President of the PF then I made certain appointments and disappointments.

Other than Miles Sampa, claims  to be President of the PF by any other person even while President HH and Levy Ngoma are clapping is therefore a criminal act of disrespecting the Court Judges presiding over the cases involving the PF. Otherwise unless they know Court outcomes already and in which case one would ask how they got to know.

They’re living in an illusion that the Judiciary and Parliament are at their beck and call. They think they will forever order or intimidate Courts and Parliament on what to do . Little do they realize they’re committing crimes that are likely to visit them one day via the same Judiciary or Judicial complaints Commision.

When therefore despite matters being in court, then the ruling UPND start to fake (via people still in court with the PF) by using ZNBC that the opposition PF has endorsed them for 2026 when not, then means they care little about the Judiciary separation of powers. In their minds they are the judiciary themselves.

Their desperate perchant for fake endorsement purporting to be representing the PF leadership, is a sign on their part that  bola naibakosela. It shows the UPND has no confidence in themselves to win 2026 so that’s why claiming PF endorsement when not. It’s like  forcing love on a woman who has refused but you keep insisting paying people who don’t represent her to say she has agreed to marry the UPND when not.

Even after marrying one or two widows (MMD & Akafumba party), they still continue to spending money faking a marriage with the PF when not true and will never happen. The PF believe in helping the poor while the UPND believes in helping the rich only and therefore marriage cannot happen.

The PF believes in puting the Copper, Gold, Emeralds, Litium, Phosephate, Amethyst, Coal and Sugilite mines in the hands of Zambians and for Zambians while the UPND believes in having these mines in the hands of foreigners who they allow to take the minerals for free without paying any tax. So based on these fundamental differences on how to serve Zambians and how to manage the Zambian economy, an alliance between the UPND and the PF will never happen.

No matter how much they fake an alliance with the PF and announce on the state owned ZNBC, Times of Zambia & the Daily Mail, they will not succeed in any misleading any Zambians and not even in Mapatizya or Dundumwezi. In this social media era, even people in villages are woken up and fully aware of the UPND desperation.

The people of Katete, Sinda, Chipangali, Chama, Chipata etc; are patiently waiting for August 2026 to have their ‘One Day’ reckoning. It’s in that day that they fear no police or soldiers because they know they have the more powerful weapon called One Vote Each. The one vote on that day becomes more powerful than guns held by the Police being used to intimidate citizens countrywide.

For now the people will receive when given and eat from public state resources goodies, but don’t Kubeba reloaded is coming . It’s on that day that the UPND will realize that abuse of ZNBC with false endorsements actually subtracted votes from them for being deceptive. It’s on that day that the editors or ZNBC, Times of Zambia and the Daily Mail will scamper with nowhere to hide after realizing the law would visit them sooner.

The contemptuous acts in the presence of President HH not only goes to annoy bonafide PF members countrywide, but the general undecided populace. They understand and can read between the lines the separate acts of President HH. Even those that may have been waiting to decide  on whether to vote for him or not, these fake ZNBC PF endorsement will just push them away from him. They will realize he and the UPND are deceptive. They will decide not to vote for them but anyone other.

So may the UPND keep faking and telling lies that the PF has endorsed them when not. It will be continued admission that they know they have no backbone or stamina of their own to face Zambian voters. In 2021 when they won, they did not fake endorsement. Now worse off when holding power, they keep worrying about the PF that they beat and lying it has partnered with them when not. Zambians are very sharp people politically. They don’t like liars.

MWANAWASA AND MAGANDE WERE OFFERED $25 MILLION TO REMOVE WINDFALL TAX
…They Refused, RB And Musokitwane Removed It – Former Finance Deputy Minister

MWANAWASA AND MAGANDE WERE OFFERED $25 MILLION TO REMOVE WINDFALL TAX
…They Refused, RB And Musokitwane Removed It – Former Finance Deputy Minister

There was a huge offer of $25 million offered by a mining giant to then President Levy Mwanawasa and his Finance Minister Ng’andu Magande to remove the tax on mining, a former Deputy Minister at Finance at the time has disclosed.

Jonas Shakafuswa who also served as member of Parliament made the disclosure when he commented on the removal of windfall tax.

“This reminds me of RB and Musokotwane removing windfall tax which was projected to benefit Zambians with almost $2B in annual addition revenues. The most unfortunate thing about this removal is that late President Mwanawasa was offered $25M with Hon. Magande to remove the tax by a known Mining Congloment. Mwanawasa rejected the offer in preference to the tax benefiting the Zambian people than him pocketing the money personally,” Shakafuswa who also served as member of Parliament explained.

Shakafuswa says President Mwanawasa told the mining company he did not mention to leave the country if they were not willing to pay tax.

“Mwanawasa asked the mining company to leave our minerals underground and leave the Country!” said Shakafuswa.

He explains that the Mining Giant fired its Financial Director at a hurriedly called press conference at Pamodzi hotel blaming him of offering the bribe without board approval.

Shakafuswa says there is someone to benefit when such resources are removed from the benefit of the people.

” I hope RB  did the same. Someone always benefits when such resources are removed from the benefit of our people. It is like some enjoys seeing our self induced poverty in the land of plenty. Initially I thought some excited Presidential aide was joking when he hinted about the removal of the export tax,” Shakafuswa said.

Shakafuswa served under both UPND and MMD government.

Dr Situmbeko Musokowane who served as Finance Minister under President Rupiah Banda and currently serving in the same portfolio under President Hakainde Hichilema has not responded to this statement.

SOCIAL MEDIA, A MENACE, WE ARE DESTROYING EACH OTHER WITH FALSEHOODS – HICHILEMA

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has expressed concern over the growing number of social media users who are in the business of posting falsehoods in order to tarnish people’s reputations.

Officiating at this year’s Nc’wala Ceremony in Chipata yesterday, President Hichilema vowed to address social media abusers in order to deter would-be offenders.

This came to light after Paramount Chief Mpezeni through his spokesperson Dumisani Tembo raised concern over the growing trend of falsehoods on social media.

Mpezeni said it was disheartening to see senior government officials being victims of falsehoods on social media because of selfish individuals who want to tarnish their image.

And President Hichilema acknowledged that social media was indeed a danger to society which he said would be dealt with accordingly.

“The issue of social media. Social media is a menace. It will be dealt with because we are destroying each other with falsehoods,” said the Head of State.

The President further commended Chief Mpezeni for continuing the celebration of culture as it was important to every nation.

“People without culture are a people without character, culture is the backbone of who we are. Most of the very successful economies are anchored on strong culture, Japan, China the UK too values the heritage of the kings there. We need to learn something from there,” said President Hichilema.

The Head of State added that culture unites the country as it brings people together from all different walks of life.

He said his administration was committed to supporting traditional ceremonies in order to promote unity.

Meanwhile, Mpezeni asked President Hichilema to rename Mwami border to Nsingo border in order for the name to resonate with the people of Chipata.

The traditional leader added that there was need for government to guarantee a reliable market for his people whom he said had worked hard during this year’s farming season.

He also requested government to expedite the construction of dams in the city of Chipata so as to secure a future for his people.

IG MUSAMBA CHALLENGED TO ARREST SIMUWE ON PROVOCATIVE AND INFLAMATORY STATEMENT ACCUSING PRESIDENTS IN THE REGION OF MEETING WITH ECL TO BRING INSTABILITY

……UPND Consultant must come and account for his statement and if false be disclosed so as to quell the potentially explosive relationship between Zambia and some countries in the region…

Lusaka Saturday 22 Februaty 2025 – Smart Eagles

Patriotic Front Chairperson for Legal and Constitutional Affairs George Chisanga has called for the arrest of UPND Consultant Mark Simuwe over a statement he issued accusing Sixth Republican President Edgar Chagwa Lungu of having meetings with some named Presidents in the region with the intent to distabilize the UPND Government.

Mr Chisanga said it is public knowledge that the Sixth Republican President is in South Africa for medical review and that the statements by Simuwe is not only false but highly provocative and extremely inflammatory and he must be made to account for it.

“Recently Mr. Simuwe found it fit to accuse the Sixth Republican president who to the knowledge of the whole nation know is actually in South Africa on medical review and attributed him to having meetings with some named Presidents in the region with the view to come and destabilize the UPND Government” he said.

“Those statements were not only false, they were not only highly inflammatory, theyre also extremely provocative for those of us who side with Edgar Chagwa Lungu because he is the president of the Tonse Alliance and the Patriotic Front” Mr chisanga added.

He further said after Simuwe’s statements, the Patriotic Front decided to follow the Law and formally file a report with the inspector General of Police but it is now over a week and nothing has been done.

“We calmly decided to respond to it (Simuwe’s statement) by following the law and filing formally a report with the Inspector General of Police, it’s over a week now we have not heard any statement from the police sect on what they are going to do with this individual.

You can begin to imagine, what the police in Zimbabwe are thinking, you can begin to imagine what the defense forces in Zimbabwe are thinking that their president can be linked to a story false as it should sound, which has the potential to stabilize the region.” Mr Chisanga said.

He has since called on the government to take decisive steps against the UPND Consultant for him to substantiate his claims.

“Government must take decicive steps against Mr Simuwe and ensure that he comes to account for his statement that he made and if they are false it must be disclosed to the nation so that we can resolve the potentially explosive relationships that we are beginning to develop between ourselves as a nation and our neighbours with whom we have enjoyed peace for close to 60 years from the time we got independence.” He said.

ZAMBIA RANKS 6th POOREST COUNTY

ZAMBIA RANKS 6th POOREST COUNTY

Zambia is the 6th poorest country in the world according to the World Bank.

And the opposition says this ranking is unacceptable and the country must not continue on this path.

The World Bank also observes that Zambia is the most unequal country in the world, with 12.6 million of its people living below $2.15 a day.

https://documents.worldbank.org/en/publication/documents-reports/documentdetail/099021825125536607

The World Bank says this level is not only the 6th highest but it also misaligned with the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita level.

In four of the five poorer countries, GDP per capita is between one-quarter and one-half of Zambia’s GDP per capita. The remaining country is South Sudan, which is  immersed in a protracted and fragility and conflict situation.

Leader of the opposition Socialist Party Dr Fred M’membe has questioned why the country would found itself in this status.

“How can we be in the same league with countries at war like South Sudan and Yemen?” Dr M’membe wondered.

The World Bank observes that at the same time, Zambia’s consumption inequality is high, even when compared with the subgroup of highly unequal resource-rich countries.

In 2022, the Gini index stood 51.5  –  significantly above the World Bank”s newly adopted high-inequality threshold of 40. This places Zambia as the country with the 4th  highest inequality in the region and the 6th  highest globally.

Resource-rich countries with similar or higher inequality have substantial lower poverty levels. This is certainly not a just economy. This is certainly not a recipe for peace and stability. This is certainly a recipe for conflict, tension, and instability. How can we have peace and stability in such an unjust economy? How can we expect to have peace and stability where there’s no justice.

Dr M’membe says Zambia is sitting on a time bomb about to explode.

“We are sitting on a time bomb. It can’t be business as usual. We have to think outside the box and abandon the methods or approaches that have brought us to this miserable position. New alternatives are needed,” he says.

He says it’s only his party offering alternatives.

“Today, it is only the Socialist Party offering us that alternative, that different approach that  moves us away from Calvary,” Dr M’membe a Journalist turned politician says.

But President Hakainde Hichilema who took over in 2021 says the country’s economic growth is now 4+ from negative it was. He says  the previous administration had destroyed the economy.

PARAMOUNT CHIEF MPEZENI HAILS PRESIDENT HICHILEMA FOR SUPPORTING NCWALA CEREMONY

PARAMOUNT CHIEF MPEZENI HAILS PRESIDENT HICHILEMA FOR SUPPORTING NCWALA CEREMONY

February 22, 2025

Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni-speaking people in Eastern Province has expressed deep gratitude to President Hakainde Hichilema for his unwavering support towards the Ncwala Traditional Ceremony.

Chief Mpezeni commended the President for being a consistent and reliable partner in preserving cultural heritage and thanked him for facilitating his trip to Eswatini last year.

Speaking through Ncwala Traditional Ceremony Organizing Committee National Chairperson Dumisani Tembo, Chief Mpezeni also acknowledged President Hichilema’s contribution of K400,000 and five heifers towards this year’s ceremony, themed “Cultural Restoration for National Unity and Peace in Zambia After 60.”

“The President’s commitment to our tradition is commendable, and we appreciate his continuous efforts to uphold our cultural values,” Chief Mpezeni said.

He also extended his appreciation to corporate partners for their support in ensuring the successful hosting of the ceremony at Mtenguleni Village in Chipata.

Raising concerns on infrastructure, Chief Mpezeni urged the government to address the long-neglected Chipata-Chadiza Road to improve connectivity in the region.

He further called for the renaming of Mwami Border Post to Prince Singo Border Post, in honor of Ngoni heritage.

Touching on agriculture, the traditional leader noted that the 2024/2025 farming season had received relatively good rains and urged the government to ensure farmers access a good market for their produce.

“As farmers, we need assurance that our hard work will be rewarded with fair prices and access to stable markets,” he said.

He also emphasized the urgent need to combat deforestation, warning that the destruction of forests was reaching alarming levels.

In addressing transport concerns, Chief Mpezeni called for the actualization of the Chipata-Mchinji Railway, noting that the Great East Road was deteriorating due to heavy traffic that could be diverted to rail transport.

Expressing concern over digital platforms, he cautioned against the abuse of social media, urging Zambians to use it responsibly for national development.

King Mswati of Eswatini, represented by Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla, praised the Ngoni people for preserving their cultural roots since migrating from KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa.

“The Amazulu and Ngoni share a deep and historic bond, and we honor the fundamental values that unite us,” King Mswati said.

Zambezi Ranching and Cropping Limited Managing Director Graham Rae reaffirmed his company’s commitment to supporting agriculture, highlighting the benefits of open-pollinated seed varieties.

He noted that these seeds were farmer-friendly and could easily be cultivated across the country to enhance food security.

The ceremony, attended by dignitaries and cultural enthusiasts, showcased the vibrant traditions of the Ngoni people while reinforcing the importance of unity, peace, and sustainable development in Zambia.

And speaking at the same event, President Hakainde Hichilema emphasized that culture reunites people and should be treasured.

The head of state stressed that a people without tradition are a people without character.

He highlighted the government’s efforts to counter the effects of drought through initiatives such as Cash for Work, Social Cash Transfer, free education, and an increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

President Hichilema assured the nation that these measures will continue and urged chiefs to encourage their subjects to send children to school.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring food security through irrigation agriculture and energy diversification.

Addressing Paramount Chief Mpezeni’s concerns, he announced that a contractor had already been engaged to work on the Chipata-Chadiza Road.

He further revealed that the government is examining the railway line in relation to the Nacala Corridor.

President Hichilema also stated that the government will soon take decisive action against the abuse of social media by some individuals.

LUSAKA DRIVERS DRIVEN TO TEARS BY THE SIGHT OF AN OLD WOMAN SELLING ROASTED MAIZE IN THE RAIN

LUSAKA DRIVERS DRIVEN TO TEARS BY THE SIGHT OF AN OLD WOMAN SELLING ROASTED MAIZE IN THE RAIN

Life can be harsh sometimes, there are people who toil day and night just to raise a K100 to feed their family.

Yesterday in Lusaka, the sight of an old woman by the roadside sitting in the rain with an old umbrella covered in dirty rain water fearing to move and lose her capital weakened a renowned accountant who broke into tears remembering exactly how his single mother raised him.

He lost control, only the handbrake saved his soul. His car was parked in the middle of the road, he was sobbing wildly, the other drivers were already shouting and insulting him as it is in Africa but when they read the situation, they could not control themselves too. Tears were unavoidable. Even savages cry when the right button is kissed.

The old woman was in her own world and never paid attention to the drama. It was only when the accountant got out of the car, pushed the wire together with the four corns which were half way roasted that she got alerted.

Before the old woman could say a word to curse with pain, the accountant in question embraced her and continued to sob. His mother died a month after he got his first job. She used to sell maize cobs and at times fried sweet potatoes to pay his school fees but never got a chance to enjoy a thing from her hard-work.

The sight of a well dressed man, not just leaving his car to join an old woman in the rain but kneeling in dirty water ignited intense emotions in many, no one was able to move his or her car. Pedestrians in shelters near her remained quiet with tears dripping. The scene was nothing you have seen on Zeeworld or Zambezi Magic.

Kneeling in the rain water, the man asked the old woman to come with him. She was surprised but agreed to go with him. Together with his wife, the accountant gifted the old lady K15,000 to do another business near her home. They also pledged to be giving her K1,000 per month for free. To God be the glory. 😭 🙏🙏

Flooded Neighborhoods in Lusaka: A Consequence of Poor Urban Planning

Flooded Neighborhoods in Lusaka: A Consequence of Poor Urban Planning

By Nando Sebitwane

Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia, has been experiencing frequent flooding in various neighborhoods, leaving residents to deal with the devastating consequences. The floods have damaged homes, businesses, and infrastructure, disrupting the lives of thousands of people.

One of the primary causes of these floods is the unauthorized construction of buildings on waterways and natural drainage paths. Many residents have built structures on these areas, blocking the natural flow of water and creating artificial dams. This has resulted in the accumulation of water during heavy rainfall, leading to floods.

Compounding the problem is the construction of compounds on swampy areas around Lusaka. These areas were once natural water absorption zones, but the development of residential and commercial properties has disrupted the natural ecosystem.

The question on everyone’s mind is: why did the city’s town planners allocate plots in areas that were clearly unsuitable for development? Did they ignore the potential risks of flooding, or were they unaware of the consequences of their decisions?

It is the responsibility of urban planners to ensure that development is done in a sustainable and responsible manner. This includes identifying areas that are prone to flooding and designating them as protected zones or green spaces.

The Lusaka City Council and other relevant authorities must take immediate action to address this issue. This includes:

1. Conducting a thorough assessment of the city’s drainage system and identifying areas that are at risk of flooding.
2. Implementing measures to prevent further development on waterways and natural drainage paths.

3. Providing support and compensation to residents who have been affected by the floods.
4. Developing and implementing a comprehensive urban planning strategy that prioritizes sustainability and environmental protection.

The people of Lusaka deserve better. It is time for the authorities to take responsibility for their actions and work towards creating a safer, more sustainable city for all.

His ever-expanding rotation of romantic partners was seemingly met with backlash online, but the “So Sick” hitmaker has made it clear that he’s nonplussed by the negativity.

In a post to his Instagram Stories on Thursday (February 20), he wrote: “Them: Ne-Yo we don’t approve of your poly relationship!” alongside a selfie of him wearing a T-shirt featuring the words: “Fun fact: I don’t care.”

Ne-Yo has been open about his polygamous lifestyle since his messy divorce from Crystal Renay, with whom he shares three children.

Appearing on the Lemon Drop podcast last year, the 45-year-old admitted that monogamy is simply not for him.

“I realized that I had not been living my truth for a very, very long time,” he said. “I’m living it now, and you can tell: my skin is glowing. I’m in a great space — mentally, emotionally and everything else.

“I realized that everything is not for everybody. It is some of the truest shit that anyone has ever said. Society tells you that you’re supposed to be with one person. You get married and y’all supposed to be together for ever.

“I am not shitting on marriage, I am not shitting on anyone who has figured out how to make that thing work for them. Monogamy’s for you? It’s not for me. I know this now and it’s like a weight lifted off my shoulders.”

Ne-Yo added: “I spent so much time lying and trying to be somebody that I wasn’t for the sake of somebody else. Complete and utter time wasted, when I could have just been exactly who I am, said exactly what I wanted and then waited for those people to gravitate towards me. Because that’s my reality now.

“I don’t have to lie anymore and I’ll be damned if I ever go back to [being] that person that needed to lie for the appeasement of somebody else.”

He also said that there was not a “cap” on how many women he would date at any one time.

President Hakainde Hichilema’s Reactive Leadership: A Disappointing Shuffle That Changes Nothing

President Hakainde Hichilema’s Reactive Leadership: A Disappointing Shuffle That Changes Nothing

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

Once again, President Hakainde Hichilema has exposed his leadership for what it truly is: reactive, indecisive, and ultimately ineffective. His latest reshuffle of Provincial Ministers and permanent secretaries  comes not as a proactive measure to fix a broken administration, but as a knee-jerk response to mounting public criticism—ironically, from one of his own “advisors,” Laura Miti. She rightly condemned his comfort with incompetence and his glaring failure to take bold leadership actions. Only after being publicly shamed did Hichilema shuffle a few officials. But make no mistake—this was no act of courage or principle. It was a desperate attempt to appease his critics without making any real changes.

The real question remains: Why is President Hichilema so afraid to take decisive action? Why does he shield incompetence instead of eliminating it? His so-called reshuffle is nothing more than a smokescreen, leaving the true architects of Zambia’s failures untouched. If he were serious about cleaning up his administration, the following individuals would have been dismissed without hesitation:

1. Sylvia Masebo – Minister of Health

The scandal surrounding Sylvia Masebo’s handling of medical supplies is a damning indictment of her failure. The discovery of 61 containers of medical supplies hidden at a private residence under her watch is nothing short of criminal negligence. Instead of firing her in disgrace, Hichilema simply transferred her to the Ministry of Lands—a pathetic attempt at damage control. This blatant recycling of incompetence is an insult to Zambians and proof that accountability is dead under Hichilema’s rule.

2. Thabo Kawana & Matembo – Permanent Secretaries

Thabo Kawana and Matembo stand accused of coercing Hon. J.J. Banda into exonerating his alleged abductors—an outrageous abuse of power that should have resulted in their immediate dismissal. Yet, under Hichilema’s spineless leadership, their actions have gone unpunished. This failure to act sends a clear message: corruption and political manipulation will be tolerated as long as they serve the ruling elite.

3. Reuben Mtolo Phiri – Minister of Agriculture

Zambia’s agricultural sector is crumbling under the weight of mismanagement, and the man responsible, Reuben Mtolo Phiri, continues to hold his position despite repeated failures. Food insecurity, poor planning, and incompetence plague the sector, yet Hichilema refuses to act. Why? Because his leadership is based on loyalty, not performance. While millions struggle with rising food prices, Phiri’s continued presence in government exposes the president’s utter disregard for Zambia’s farmers and food security.

4. Paul Kabuswe – Minister of Mines

Zambia is blessed with immense mineral wealth, yet it is being plundered while Hon. Paul Kabuswe idly watches. The mining sector is drowning in corruption, environmental destruction, and mismanagement, yet Hichilema refuses to act. The failure to remove Kabuswe is proof that this government is more interested in protecting shady business deals than securing Zambia’s future.

5. Situmbeko Musokotwane – Minister of Finance

Under Situmbeko Musokotwane’s leadership, Zambia’s economy has spiraled into deeper crisis. Rising debt, skyrocketing inflation, and unemployment have crippled the nation, yet Hichilema insists on keeping Musokotwane in charge of our economic future. The continued economic collapse is proof that this minister has failed—yet, once again, incompetence is rewarded rather than punished.

6. Graphael Musamba – Inspector General of Police

Law enforcement under Graphael Musamba has become synonymous with brutality, inefficiency, and political bias. Police corruption is rampant, justice is selective, and law enforcement serves the ruling elite rather than the people. Hichilema’s failure to address this decay in our police service demonstrates his unwillingness to enforce true justice and accountability.

7. Levy Ngoma – State House Operative

Levy Ngoma has been implicated in the shocking abduction of Hon. J.J. Banda. His continued presence in State House is an outright disgrace and a clear indication that Hichilema prioritizes political loyalty over justice. By shielding him, the president is sending a chilling message: criminal behavior within his inner circle will be tolerated.

8. Clayson Hamasaka – State House Operative

Like Ngoma, Clayson Hamasaka is linked to the abduction of Hon. J.J. Banda. His presence in government is a direct slap in the face to every Zambian who believes in justice and transparency. Why is Hichilema protecting individuals involved in criminal activities? The answer is simple—he values control over integrity.

9. Jack Mwiimbu – Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security

Jack Mwiimbu’s tenure as Minister of Home Affairs has been marred by lies, deception, and a failure to protect Zambians. His attempts to mislead the nation on critical security matters expose his untrustworthiness. The worsening state of law enforcement and political violence under his watch prove that he is unfit to serve. Yet, Hichilema keeps him in place—why? Because accountability in this administration is a myth.

HICHILEMA’S FAILED LEADERSHIP: A PRESIDENCY BUILT ON EXCUSES

President Hichilema’s leadership is a masterclass in failure. Instead of taking proactive, bold decisions, he governs by reaction, constantly scrambling to control the damage caused by his own inaction. Instead of cleaning up corruption, he reshuffles the same faces, hoping that cosmetic changes will fool the Zambian people. Instead of prioritizing economic stability, justice, and good governance, he prioritizes his political survival.

The truth is clear: Hichilema is unwilling—or incapable—of making the hard decisions necessary to fix Zambia. His administration is riddled with incompetence, corruption, and failure, yet he refuses to act decisively. This is not the leadership Zambia needs or deserves.

If President Hichilema truly cared about good governance, he would fire the individuals responsible for the nation’s failures instead of protecting them. But his continued reliance on weak, unqualified officials exposes the reality: his presidency is built on excuses, not solutions.

Zambians deserve more than lies, cover-ups, and empty promises. They deserve a leader who values integrity, competence, and accountability. The era of reactive leadership must end. It’s time for Hichilema to show real leadership—or step aside for someone who will.

Easterners, Wake Up! Why Is Chief Mukuni Lobbying for Hichilema in Your Province?- Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

Easterners, Wake Up! Why Is Chief Mukuni Lobbying for Hichilema in Your Province?

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

Easterners, it is time to wake up! Chief Mukuni from Southern Province has allegedly been making rounds in Eastern Province, moving from palace to palace, lobbying for votes for his “son,” President Hakainde Hichilema, ahead of the 2026 elections.

His mission? To convince traditional leaders that HH understands their struggles, that he is “trying his best” to work, and that he should be given a second chance to “finish what he started.”

But let’s be honest—what exactly has he started, and what has he finished for the people of Eastern Province?

Chief Mukuni’s Political Tour

▪️February 19, 2025 – He was in Chipangali, visiting Chewa palaces.
▪️February 20, 2025 – He arrived in Lundazi.
▪️February 21, 2025 – He went to Chipata.

This raises serious questions:

Why does a chief from Southern Province feel the need to campaign for HH in Eastern Province?

Why is he lobbying Eastern Province chiefs on behalf of a president who should be judged by his performance, not by regional alliances?

What is President Hichilema so afraid of that he must resort to chiefs to do his bidding?

Why is HH unable to face the people directly and answer for his failures?

The Real Motive Behind Chief Mukuni’s Visits

Make no mistake—this is not a courtesy tour. This is a well-planned political maneuver designed to manipulate and deceive. Chief Mukuni is attempting to sway traditional leaders and, through them, the people of Eastern Province.

Why? Because Hichilema’s administration knows it is losing ground in Eastern Province and is now desperate to use traditional leaders as political tools to control the narrative and secure votes.

But let’s ask ourselves: What exactly has HH done for Eastern Province and Zambia at large that warrants a second term?

Hichilema’s Five Years of Failure: What Has He Achieved?

Has he fixed the struggling agricultural sector that people depend on? – No! Farmers are still suffering, fertilizer and seed prices remain high, and maize production is in crisis.

Has he reduced the cost of living? – No! Prices of mealie meal, fuel, and essential goods are at record highs, making life unbearable for ordinary Zambians.

Has he stopped favoritism and bias in his government? – No! Easterners have been sidelined in key government appointments, while those from favored regions dominate government positions.

Has he improved the economy? – No! Unemployment is soaring, businesses are collapsing, and the kwacha continues to weaken.

Instead of delivering real development, jobs, and better living conditions, HH is sending chiefs to do his political bidding. This is an insult to the people of Eastern Province!

Easterners, Do Not Be Fooled!

Eastern Province must not be swayed by cheap political tricks disguised as traditional diplomacy.

If HH has truly delivered, why does he need chiefs to convince you? Shouldn’t his achievements speak for themselves?

If a leader must send traditional rulers to campaign for him, it means he has failed to win the people’s trust on his own!

To Chief Mukuni, We Ask:

Why are you in Eastern Province lobbying for HH instead of focusing on your own province?

What personal benefit do you stand to gain from Hichilema’s re-election?

Are you serving the people, or are you serving your own political interests?

To You, Easterners:

Wake up! Do not let Chief Mukuni decide your future.

Your votes are NOT for sale!

Reject leaders who remember you only when elections are near.

Vote based on performance, not deception and manipulation.

Hold leaders accountable for their failures—demand results, NOT excuses!

2026 Is Coming—Choose Wisely!

Easterners, the power is in your hands. Do not allow yourselves to be deceived by political games. The time for blind loyalty is over—it is time to demand real leadership, real solutions, and real change.

If HH and his government have failed you in the last five years, DO NOT REWARD FAILURE WITH ANOTHER TERM!

Zambia belongs to all of us. Stand firm. Reject manipulation. Vote for a future that works for everyone, not just a chosen few.

We didn’t divorce you, Bembas beg Mpezeni after double booking with Lozis

We didn’t divorce you, Bembas beg Mpezeni after double booking with Lozis

THOSE who thought the rat eating Ngonis were still nursing grudges against the monkey eating Bembas for expanding their cousinship to the hopani eating Lozis were left disappointed yesterday when Paramount Chief Mpezeni IV and Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba people stood side by side, laughing and chatting like brothers at Elaweni ahead of the Ncwala Ceremony in Chipata.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/15gGGHtuJM/?mibextid=oFDknk

Dressed to impress, Chitimukulu arrived in a crisp blue suit, white shirt tucked in so perfectly it looked like his kapaso ironed it while the royal was wearing it.

The black shoes were so polished you could see your reflection in them, and If musician, Pompi was there, he would have sung “londo pa nsapato.”

The Paramount Chief looked like he was attending a wedding and not a royal ceremony as he walked around Elaweni in his smart Bemba looks.

After weeks of speculation that the Bembas had abandoned their Ngoni cousins in favour of a new alliance with the Lozis, the two Paramount cousins showed it to the world that despite the Bembas having ‘cheated’ on the Ngonis with the Lozis, their bond could not be shaken.

The two Chiefs squashed all doubts with firm handshakes, hearty laughter and a show of cousinly love.

The great king of the monkey eaters had traveled all the way from his palace in Mungwi to show support to his long lost blood drinking cousin.

Earlier, Transport and Logistics minister Frank Tayali had seemingly taken up the role of “Minister of Bemba Cousinship Affairs,” also stepped forward to beg Mpezeni that even though the Bembas were now cousins with hopani eaters, the Bemba-Ngoni cousinship still stood firm.

“This is our culture. As a Bemba, I ask that we strengthen our cousinship. We didn’t leave you as purported by the media,” pleaded Tayali with a tone almost as desperate as a husband explaining why another woman’s name is saved in his phone as “Zesco.”

The minister also explained to Mpezeni that he had come with his traffic officers who were ready to control traffic during the main ceremony in the capital city of bicycles and motorbikes.

“We ask that we discourage people from drinking and driving.”

“The motorbike riders are riding without helmets. Let’s promote a safer way of riding motorcycles. We are happy to be here and we are proud that so far so good we are making progressed,” reported Tayali.

Meanwhile, chief Mpezeni assured Tayali that no one could come between their cousinship as it traces back to many years ago when his people were warring against ‘thieving’ Bembas.

“This cousinship cannot end. It traces back to many years ago. You are our people and we are happy to see you,” said Mpezeni.

Navigating Currency Change in Zambia: Legal Insights and Public Sensitization

Navigating Currency Change in Zambia: Legal Insights and Public Sensitization

By: Hamunkoyo Tobbius 22/02/25

The announcement of a new currency often sparks curiosity and debate among the public. In Zambia, the recent introduction of a new currency has been a focal point for both economic observers and everyday citizens. However, it is important to understand that currency change is not solely an economic maneuver but a multifaceted process rooted in legal, security, and modernization considerations. This article delves into the legal framework and procedural steps involved in Zambia’s currency change, shedding light on why such a transition is essential beyond mere economic impacts.

The Rationale Behind Currency Change

The primary reasons for changing currency range from countering counterfeiting to promoting economic efficiency and modernization. Enhancing security features is vital in reducing the risk of counterfeit currency, thereby protecting the integrity of the financial system. For example, the introduction of the new K500 and K200 notes helps streamline cash management, reducing reliance on smaller denominations like the K100 note. Furthermore, updating banknote designs to reflect national heritage and technological advancements keeps the currency system modern and relevant.

1. Counteracting Counterfeiting:
One of the most critical reasons for introducing a new currency is to combat counterfeiting. By incorporating advanced security features such as holograms, watermarks, and micro-printing, the Bank of Zambia aims to make it increasingly difficult for counterfeiters to replicate banknotes. These enhancements protect the public from fraud and ensure that the currency remains a trusted medium of exchange with integrity.

2. Promoting Economic Efficiency: Another key rationale is to improve the efficiency of cash transactions within the economy. The introduction of higher denominations, like the new K500 and K200 notes, allows for more convenient and efficient handling of large sums of money. This reduces the need for carrying excessive quantities of smaller denominations, streamlining everyday transactions for both individuals and businesses.

3.Modernization and National Identity: Currency design is more than just an economic tool, it is a reflection of a nation’s identity and heritage. Updating banknote designs to include cultural symbols, historical figures, and modern technological advancements helps to foster a sense of national pride. Additionally, modernized banknotes are better equipped to handle the wear and tear of daily use, ensuring their longevity and continued functionality, very important.

Legal and Institutional Framework

At the heart of Zambia’s currency change is the Bank of Zambia (BoZ), the institution responsible for currency issuance. The BoZ’s mandate is supported by several legal instruments:

1. The Constitution of Zambia (Act No. 2 of 2016) Amendment: Article 213 assigns the BoZ the responsibility for ensuring financial system stability, which includes currency management.

2. The Bank of Zambia Act, 2022 (Act No. 5 of 2022) : This act establishes the BoZ’s authority over currency management and outlines the roles of the BoZ Board and the Monetary Policy Committee.

3. The Banking and Financial Services Act (Cap 387): This act details the BoZ’s regulatory role over financial institutions concerning currency issuance.

4. The Banking and Financial Services (Bureau de Change) Regulations, 2003 : These regulations provide rules for foreign exchange transactions, ensuring the new currency integrates smoothly into international transactions.

5. Statutory Instruments (SIs) :
The BoZ issues SIs to guide the currency transition, including timelines, exchange points, and public sensitization measures.

Zambia’s currency change is a well-planned process aimed at enhancing security, improving cash handling, and modernizing banknotes to reflect national heritage. The Bank of Zambia oversees the transition, guided by legal frameworks such as the Constitution and the Bank of Zambia Act. Public awareness is crucial for a smooth adoption. A successful currency change strengthens economic stability and financial integrity.

IT’S AN INSULT TO PAN AFRANISM TO CALL MUGABE A PAN-AFRICANIST

IT’S AN INSULT TO PAN AFRANISM TO CALL MUGABE A PAN-AFRICANIST
By Hopewell Chinono in Harare

It was Robert Mugabe’s birthday yesterday, and many celebrated what they called their hero, some in Africa called him a Pan-Africanist. Was he really a Pan-Africanist?

The African fascination with Robert Mugabe is bewildering and embarrassing at the same time.
Calling Mugabe a Pan-Africanist means you either do not know what Pan-Africanism means or you simply support murderous dictators.

A man who authored a genocide in his own country, killing his kith and kin, cannot be a Pan-Africanist.
Calling Mugabe a Pan-Africanist mocks genuine Pan-Africanists and makes those who are truly Pan-Africanist reluctant to associate with the term.

Pan-Africanism is the love of African people. Mugabe continued to kill his own African people until he was overthrown in a military coup in 2017.
How, then, can any sane person call such a man a Pan-Africanist?

Africans are gullible, they love rhetoric and empty speeches that hold no meaning.
Do not embarrass the continent and real Pan-Africanists by calling brutal dictators Pan-Africanists, unless Pan-Africanism now has a new meaning!

Pan-Africanism, at its core, is a movement focused on unity, solidarity, and the well-being of African people.
Attributing this label to a leader who was responsible for widespread violence and human rights violations within his own country not only distorts the meaning of Pan-Africanism but also diminishes the efforts of genuine Pan-Africanists who fought for the rights and dignity of African people.

The contradiction between Mugabe’s actions and the principles of Pan-Africanism is stark and undeniable.
By holding up Mugabe as a Pan-Africanist figure, you inadvertently glorify authoritarianism and undermining the values of justice, equality, and human rights that are central to the Pan-African movement.

That is why many South Africans on this app reject the “Pan-African” label because it is associated with people who have done the most horrible things to their own people.

The tragedy is that these dictators were never Pan-Africanists. To them, the term is a fashion label.

Until we stop the nonsense of calling anyone who bashes whites a Pan-Africanist merely based on rhetoric, many young progressive Africans will shun the term.

Pan-Africanism is about the well-being of African people. Look at Zimbabwe today, is that what Pan-Africanism is about?
Its people die because hospitals have collapsed due to Mugabe and ZANUPF rule.
2500 women die every year giving birth in Zimbabwe due to lack of proper maternity facilities. Had it not been for South Africa, many more Zimbabweans would have died.

When the Pan-African label is applied indiscriminately to leaders who have done horrible things like commit genocides, it not only cheapens the term but also makes it difficult for genuine Pan-Africanists to promote their progressive ideas and vision.

The focus on anti-Western rhetoric as the sole criterion for determining Pan-Africanism is crazy.

It ignores the fundamental principle of Pan-Africanism, which is the unity, dignity, and well being of African people.
Did Mugabe leave Zimbabweans living in dignity, how can a man who gives 22 farms to his daughter to the detriment of many landless blacks be a Pan-Africanist. He used foreign hospitals while his people were left ti die from easily treatable diseases.

If a leader like Mugabe, whose actions have led to significant suffering for Zimbabweans, is hailed as a Pan-Africanist, then the term loses its meaning and integrity.
This is why the rest of the world looks at Africa as a joke, it is because we idolise people that have taken the continent backwards.

To preserve the essence of Pan-Africanism and attract younger, progressive Africans to the movement and its ideas, it is important to shift the focus back to the core values of unity, human rights, and development.

This requires a more nuanced understanding of the term and a commitment to holding leaders accountable for their actions, regardless of their rhetoric.

I recommend reading literature by William Edward Burghardt Du Bois for those genuinely interested in understanding Pan-Africanism not this propaganda of elevating a man who killed his own citizens to stay in power including a genocide.

It is shameful that we have people who can’t understand this simple issue!

The argument that Mugabe had his flaws is weird because calling a genocide a flaw is an insult to the memory of those killed.

What a Pan-Africanist he was living in luxury at the cost of his people who continue to live in penury!
