‘I am Ready to Be President of Zambia’—BRIAN MUNDUBILE

‘I Am Ready to Be President of Zambia’—BRIAN MUNDUBILE

“I love Zambia. I love Zambians. I am willing to be President of Zambia.”

The Big Debate–08.1025

With those words, Brian Mundubile made his intentions clear on The Big Debate, hosted by Ambassador Frank Mutubila.

In a heartfelt and candid interview, Brian reflected on the legacy of Edgar Chagwa Lungu (ECL), not just as a former President, but as a father and husband who’s passing, he believes, deserved more dignity and unity in its handling.

Mundubile regrets the legal and diplomatic limbo that leaves President Lungu frozen and unburied today four months after death.

When asked directly about his presidential ambitions, Brian responded with conviction: “I wish to confirm that I am one of those who has expressed interest in leading the alliances. If the Zambians gave me a chance, I would serve with love and dedication. What’s important for any leader, in my case, is to love Zambia—and I do.”

His vision for Zambia is rooted in practical transformation. He emphasized the need to prioritize the mining sector, ensuring that its benefits are felt by ordinary Zambians. “Mines must first serve Zambia,” he said, outlining plans to reduce poverty by professionalizing small-scale mining and channelling its gains into agricultural development and broader economic empowerment.

This declaration places Brian among a growing list of opposition figures who have signalled readiness to contest, including Harry Kalaba CF, Fred M’membe SP, Given Lubinda SP, and Kelvin Bwalya Fube (KBF) ZMP. Yet, Mundubile stands out for his emphasis on unity according to analysts.

He believes that a strong, cohesive opposition is essential for Zambia’s democratic health and future progress.

“I am ready to debate any other candidate,” he added, signalling openness, confidence, and a commitment to transparency. His message was not just political—it was personal, patriotic, and deeply rooted in service according to political analysts.

As Zambia looks ahead, voices like Mundubile’s are shaping the conversation. Whether or not he secures the presidency, his call for unity, professionalism, and love for country resonates with many who believe Zambia’s best days are still ahead.

it’s my time, if some people  in PF think they can discriminate me for who I am as Lozi, they are lying and wasting their time- Given Lubinda

When l visited him at his residence last month, we talked about many issues of PF, Tonse Alliance & the nation. I was particularly interested to know if he is considering to contest at the PF national convention and later as Republican President in 2026.

Hon. Given Lubinda categorically said, “by God grace, it’s my time Dr. Zimba and I am available to serve both PF and Zambians by continuing from where my elder brother ECL left from….If some people in PF think they can discriminate me for who I am as Lozi, they are lying and wasting their time”. I was impressed with his clarity of mind, passion and honest.

Among known opposition presidential candidates so far both in PF and Tonse alliance, I don’t know many who can beat him in terms of experience in parliamentary politics and national politics in general. He is a defined political veteran, credible statesman, experienced former cabinet minister and a devoted PF senior leader.

Hon. Given Lubinda is someone l find very intellectually grounded and deeply passionate. Generally, l get along with him well and our one on one conversations are always fruitful and politically sound.

As we prepare for the Tonse Alliance General Congress in December, 2025, these are the competent, credible and sound presidential candidates we must look out for.

With such quality candidates, we can smile at August 2026 knowing that we shall cross the UPND bridge with confidence even if it means walking barefooted✅

John Sangwa says he wants ordinary Zambians to fund his campaign to unseat UPND govt

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba writes:

Asking Zambians to Fund Political Campaigns

Instead of seeking funding from multinationals, mining groups, businessmen or known tenderprenuers, John Sangwa says he wants ordinary Zambians to fund his campaign to unseat the current leaders and hegemony.

He says this approach is a hopeful guarantee that Zambian will own the process and his government could escape future negative or corrupt policy influences or contract benefits these entities force on or obtain from government leaders.

It is common knowledge that these entities benefit from favourable tax policies or obtain large-scale tenders in fuel, fertiliser, power trade and other benefits.

Sangwa has also sued Government to force it to actualize Article 60 of the Constitution that should guarantee the provision of integrity, independent regulation and funding to political parties through the enactment of enabling subsidiary legislation and policy.

He is therefore asking for a donation of K100 each from Zambians who support his candidature and approach.

Can this novel idea work in Zambia?

I offered the NCP presidency to Edgar Lungu only and not anyone in tonse alliance-  Peter Chanda

The Predicaments of Joining Tonse Alliance With ECL as Constitutional Chairman & 2026 Presidential Candidate Versus the New Temptations of Challenging PF leaders at the 2025 General Congress: The Case of Rev. Peter Chanda and other Tonse members

Before and after we formed Tonse Alliance, Rev. Peter Chanda repeatedly reached out to our late father, hero, former president and chairman, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu to voluntarily offer him NCP as an alternative party after PF was “taken over by hostile forces”. As his political advisor, I was engaged by boss alongside my close friend, a lawyer to thoroughly vet and scrutinize NCP.

Finally, I technically approved NCP to ECL since it was small, unknown and more easy and effective for PF to “take over” at the appropriate time among few other known parties that had covertly offered themselves to the former president going into 2026.

When we formed Tonse Alliance, NCP strategically joined so early and settled very fast. Yes, Rev. Chanda is an intelligent folk and subtle person. In December, 2024, Tonse Alliance needed to participate in the KAWAMBWA parliamentary by election & the matter of SPECIAL PURPOSE VEHICLE (SPV) became crucial & urgent. PF Central Committee met & picked FDD as their priority ticket. When Tonse Alliance received the PF report, the Council of Leaders rejected FDD because it was still a member of UKA and not in the alliance.

The Council of Leaders resolved to only approve a SPV among parties in Tonse Alliance. This became a hot issue in the council. As secretariate, we technically recommended NCP among many others in the alliance and fortunately, it was approved including being supported by Vice Chairman, Prof. Danny Pule, PeP president, Mr. Sean Tembo and PF Vice President then, Hon. Given Lubinda. Rev. Peter Chanda was given full conditions to fulfill as a SPV and he agreed as NCP leader before everyone. Again, me and the lawyer, a close friend were tasked by our late father and chairman to closely work with Rev. Chanda to begin the process of making NCP a truly acceptable SPV for Tonse Alliance. This included changing the party symbol from “ancient satellites  to the CHAIR you see today.

On two or three occasions when he visited me home and were strategizing on this crucial issue of NCP and Tonse Alliance, Rev. Chanda raised some important issues. He wanted to know what happens to him since ECL was blocked from contesting if the chairman picked a successor (Plan B ) and his party executive does not approve him or her to contest on NCP but instead they approve him (Rev. Chanda) as their leader to contest on their party ticket. It’s a matter he raised with me many times. My answer was always casual as I rubbished his concerns to be both illegitimate, ultravious and extravagant. I was sure he was merely postulating and forcing dead waters from a rock. I innocently didn’t see a Moses in him!

Unfortunately, our father and constitutional chairman died on 5th June, 2025 in SA. Rev. Chanda raised his concerns again in August, 2025 concerning the Tonse Alliance 2026 presidential candidacy following the death of ECL. Last month, he went further to indicate that his executive believes that they offered the NCP presidency to ECL only and not anyone. I reminded him of the December, 2024 conditions that were attached to him when the Council of Leaders approved NCP to be our SPV. He agreed but with many but, but, but, but, etc. At this stage, I started understanding his new political situation, predicament and taking him seriously.

In my routine discussions with many other Tonse Alliance Leaders outside PF recently, I discovered that many have changed and no longer agree with the constitutional position that the 2026 presidential candidate must automatically and only come from the ECL PF Movement. They seem to agree with some NCP leaders who are troubling Rev. Peter Chanda in considering to participate and compete with PF leaders at the General Congress this year given that the legal flag bearer in ECL is no more.

When you ask me as Tonse National Coordinator and Lead Consultant who received and vetted these leaders when joining the alliance, their new position is solidly valid and empirically sound. All these old members joined Tonse Alliance knowing fully that their alliance Chairman and 2026 Presidential Candidate was Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu and not anyone else from the ECL PF Movement. Their new predicaments and concerns are nakedly factual because we forcefully and effectively used ECL as Former President in his personal capacity to engage , attract and convince them in joining Tonse Alliance.

Article 11. (I) and (II) of Tonse Alliance categorically says:

(I) Given that it is resolved and agreed that , The 2026 presidential candidate shall come from the “ECL Patriotic Front (PF) Political Movement”, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu shall immediately assume the position of Chairperson of the Alliance as well as candidate after accepting his candidacy adoption at the official launch of the alliance to the exclusion of the General Congress since Tonse is a moving electoral pact.

II. The General Congress shall merely ceremoniously affirm The 2026 presidential candidate, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu since the actual adoption would have already been done at the official launch of Tonse.

When we say that we need the Tonse Alliance General Congress either in November or early December, 2025, these are complex issues we need to collectively discuss, amicably resolve and quickly cure as a family soonest besides electing our new chairman and 2026 presidential. We urgently need the alliance chairman and candidate with compelling popular legitimacy and democratic approval from Tonse members via the General Congress. If and once the General Congress approves amendments to article 11. (I) and (II), then “all leaders who are members of Tonse Alliance” shall be free to contest the Chairmanship and 2026 Presidential Candidacy alongside those from the “ECL PF Movement”.

Technically, this amendment maybe necessary in order to open up the alliance to many credible members and candidates. This equally may cure and resolve many critical questions Rev. Peter Chanda’s executive members and other Tonse Alliance members are raising. The standard fact remains that “Tonse is ECL and ECL is Tonse”. This is the correct background and understanding when everyone was joining Tonse Alliance. But now that our beloved ECL is gone, we need to be objective, fair and honest with everyone in the alliance than treat others like “rebels” or “secondary members” because they are critical and vital stakeholders.

Moreover, the ECL PF Movement has zero reason to fear or object amending article 11. (I) and (II) because they enjoy a majoritarian status in all decision making bodies of Tonse Alliance including the General Congress itself. The recent published list of the “Expanded Council of Leaders” that was approved by ECL in May, 2025 clearly shows this preposition and reality.

The untimely demise of our constitutional chairman and 2026 presidential candidate now presents both complications, challenges as well as political new curves and opportunities in Tonse Alliance. We just need to be more sober, wise, subtle, pragmatic, thoughtful and balanced to navigate this sharp curve and take off collectively. Hence, the Tonse Alliance General Congress is timely and urgent for everyone. #WeLoveLunguForever ✅欄

TONSE ALLIANCE SPLIT DEEPENS AS KATUTA ENTERS 2026 RACE; CSO BACKS CONSTITUTION REFORM DRIVE

⬆️ MORNING WIRE | TONSE ALLIANCE SPLIT DEEPENS AS KATUTA ENTERS 2026 RACE; CSO BACKS CONSTITUTION REFORM DRIVE

Good morning. As Zambia inches toward the 2026 elections, the opposition Tonse Alliance continues to unravel, a controversial lawmaker joins the presidential race, and civil society groups weigh in on the country’s constitutional reform agenda. Here are the top stories shaping the day.

Tonse Alliance: Nakacinda Calls Emergency Meeting Amid Leadership Rift

The opposition Tonse Alliance faces another test of unity this morning. Patriotic Front Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda has called for an emergency Council of Leaders meeting at the PF Secretariat, just hours before the Alliance is scheduled to brief the media on resolutions from yesterday’s gathering convened by Sean Tembo and Chris Zumani Zimba.

Nakacinda and acting PF president Given Lubinda were absent from that earlier meeting, despite being listed among the new Tonse Council members announced last week. The two have accused Tembo’s camp of acting outside established procedures.

Party insiders say today’s emergency session aims to reclaim control of the Alliance and clarify who holds authority to speak or organise under its banner. Tembo’s team has yet to respond, but parallel statements are expected before the day ends, deepening the Alliance’s image crisis ahead of next year’s elections.

Given Katuta Joins Presidential Race

Chiengi independent lawmaker Given Katuta has confirmed she will contest the presidency in the 2026 general election. The announcement, expected at a press briefing later this morning, positions her as one of the few women entering the crowded race.

Katuta, a familiar figure in Parliament, has built her profile around strong views on marriage, family life, and morality. She has also made headlines for controversy including an ongoing assault case in which she allegedly spat in the face of a journalist during a heated exchange at the National Assembly last year.

Despite the criticism, her supporters say Katuta’s outspokenness and independence resonate with voters frustrated by elite politics. Her decision to run as an independent is likely to test whether personality-driven politics can break through Zambia’s traditional party barriers.

CSOs Welcome Constitutional Reform Process

Civil society has applauded President Hakainde Hichilema’s decision to form a technical team on constitutional reforms, describing it as a necessary step toward a credible and inclusive national dialogue.

Speaking on behalf of a coalition of CSOs, Chapter One Foundation executive director Josiah Kalala said the initiative offers a chance to end the cycle of politically engineered amendments that have undermined public trust in Zambia’s governance system.

“The process must be transparent, inclusive, and free from political interference,” Kalala said.
“The committee must publish drafts, hold public hearings, and engage women, youth, and rural communities.”

Kalala urged government to adopt a legal framework defining the team’s mandate, timelines, and accountability mechanisms. He cautioned against rushing the process to fit the 2026 election schedule, insisting that constitutional reform must aim for durability, not expedience.

The Bigger Picture

Zambia’s opposition remains fragmented and distracted, even as the ruling party sharpens its message around economic recovery and governance reform. The Tonse Alliance is bleeding legitimacy, while figures like Katuta seek to redefine political relevance on individual terms.

Meanwhile, the constitutional reform process could mark a turning point if it avoids political capture and delivers a charter rooted in inclusion and justice.

Mundubile downplays ‘Tonse’ confusion, calls it family misunderstanding

Mundubile downplays ‘Tonse’ confusion, calls it family misunderstanding

PF MPOROKOSO member of parliament Brian Mundubile says the confusion rocking the Tonse Alliance is not a sign of collapse but a ‘family misunderstanding’ that can be resolved if members stop washing their dirty linen in public.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/173wSxEwYs/

Speaking when he featured on Prime TV last night, Mundubile said the recent wrangles among members of the opposition alliance were normal in any political party but had been blown out of proportion because they played out in the public instead of being handled internally.

The Tonse Alliance hopeful explained that the disputes stemmed from disagreements over a recent meeting called by some members of the alliance, with others questioning the legitimacy of the gathering.

“The recent confusion, which has been very topical and discussed on various platforms, arose from a meeting that was called by Tonse Alliance members. Others argued that the members that called for that meeting had no power to do so. A number of us, including myself, were caught up in that, but I believe differences should be resolved in meetings,” Mundubile said.

He stated that unlike other political parties that manage their internal challenges behind closed doors, the Tonse Alliance had allowed its issues to spill into the media, giving the impression of deep divisions.

Mundubile noted that despite the visible cracks, the alliance remained a viable platform for the opposition to unite and provide a strong challenge to the ruling UPND ahead of the 2026 general elections.

He urged alliance partners to put the interests of Zambians above personal ambition and work together to address national challenges.

“The opposition must learn to keep family issues within the family,” he said.

The Mporokoso lawmaker further called for maturity and discipline among alliance members, saying the Tonse Alliance still had a chance to rebuild trust and regain public confidence if its leaders focused on unity and dialogue.

PF IS A SENIOR PARTY, IT SHOULDN’T BE IN THIS MESS – SACCORD

PF IS A SENIOR PARTY, IT SHOULDN’T BE IN THIS MESS – SACCORD

SOUTHERN African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes Executive Director  Arthur Muyunda, has described the ongoing internal wrangles within the Patriotic Front and their spillover into the Tonse Alliance as “unnecessary” and damaging for a senior opposition party.

Mr. Muyunda says he expects PF to be more united, particularly after the death of former President Edgar Lungu.

Speaking during an interview with RCV News today, Mr. Muyunda has  expressed concern over the PF’s internal disunity, stating that instead of setting an example, they are deepening divisions not just within their party, but across the opposition alliance.

Mr. Muyunda emphasized that as the largest opposition party, PF has a responsibility to offer guidance to other political parties within the Tonse Alliance, warning that the ongoing disarray is undermining public confidence.

“PF should realise they are not in government, and that being in opposition, they have a lot of work to do. They need to choose one person who is going to represent them and stop the infighting,” said Mr. Muyunda.

He further cautioned that if the current trend continues, it will become difficult for Zambians to trust the PF with national leadership in the future.

Mr. Muyunda also urged the Tonse Alliance to avoid being drawn into the PF’s internal problems, calling on its members to remain “sober and united” as they work to identify a capable leader to take the alliance forward.

WYNTER KABIMBA SAYS MARIA ZALOUMIS’S DOWNGRADED MURDER CHARGE TO MANSLAUGHTER IS NOT A CASE OF SELECTIVE JUSTICE

WYNTER KABIMBA SAYS MARIA ZALOUMIS’S DOWNGRADED MURDER CHARGE TO MANSLAUGHTER IS NOT A CASE OF SELECTIVE JUSTICE

By Chamuka Shalubala

Former Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba has defended the decision by the Director of Public Prosecutions -DPP Gilbert Phiri to downgrade the murder charge against Maria Zaloumis, popularly known as Zed Farmer, to manslaughter.

On Monday, the charge was officially revised, and the matter was committed to the High Court for trial. All the accused persons, including Zaloumis, her Nigerian partner, and three farm workers, were granted K20,000 bail each.

Appearing before Kabwe Resident Magistrate Wamundila Liswaniso, the five accused of causing the death of 22-year-old Enock Simfukwe at a farm in Central Province were informed that DPP Gilbert Phiri had consented to reduce the charge under Section 199 of the Penal Code, causing an uproar on social media.

Bu in an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Kabimba says there is nothing political about the decision, saying it was made purely on legal grounds.

He believes Zaloumis being the daughter of Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis is coincidental and shouldn’t be mistaken for selective justice.

Mr. Kabimba has further warned that politicizing every legal matter has the potential to put the country on a dangerous path and urged the public to allow legal institutions to function independently.

MUMBI PHIRI’S REMARKS SPARK TRIBALISM DEBATE AHEAD OF 2026 POLLS

MUMBI PHIRI’S REMARKS SPARK TRIBALISM DEBATE AHEAD OF 2026 POLLS

Recent remarks by former Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General Mumbi Phiri, suggesting an ideal opposition presidential ticket based on regional origins, have ignited a national conversation on tribalism and its role in Zambian politics ahead of the August 2026 general elections.

Ms. Phiri was quoted in a local publication advocating for a Bemba presidential aspirant to select a running mate from the Eastern Province as a strategy for the opposition to defeat the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) in the upcoming polls. These comments have been widely viewed as tribal and discriminatory.

The National Restoration Party (NAREP) President, Ezra Tikwiza Ngulube, condemned Ms. Phiri’s suggestion, stating that tribalism is primarily “perpetuated by politicians to advance their agenda.”
“Our Mother Mumbi Phiri was not supposed to come out that way,” said Mr. Ngulube, a former UPND Alliance Spokesperson and current UPND Alliance Council of Presidents Secretary. “Zambia is not the East or the North, Central or Northwestern.”

Mr. Ngulube argued that widespread intermarriages complicate discussions around tribalism, noting his own family ties across North-Western and Western provinces. He asserted that Zambians prioritize a candidate’s ability to deliver development over their regional origin.

Echoing this view, Community Advocate and Teresa Heart Foundation Executive Director Manga Chibesa Kambole suggested that tribalism exists “just on paper and not among the younger generation,” many of whom are “mixed breed” and do not speak their mother tongues

Ms. Kambole, who is both Bemba and Lozi, stated she has not experienced tribalism “to the magnitude that it can even be recorded.”

However, Disability Rights Advocate Steven Jethro Phiri expressed concern over what he termed an “emerging trend of Tribalism” that risks dividing cultural and social norms. He acknowledged that tribal identity is part of cultural identity but insisted it “must not be used to discriminate or favor a particular group.”

As stakeholders weigh in, there is a perception that tribalism is largely confined to “few individuals with vested interest to advance particular agenda based on emotions” rather than being a widespread societal issue.

Political parties are currently preparing their manifestos, with increased scrutiny on politicians to present a unifying message to the Zambian electorate.

UNDER HH ZAMBIA’S ECONOMY IS NOW STABLE AND PERFORMING WELL – HAABAZOKA

UNDER HH ZAMBIA’S ECONOMY IS NOW STABLE AND PERFORMING WELL – HAABAZOKA

By Dr. Lubinda Haabazoka

Since President Hakainde Hichilema took office in August 2021, Zambia’s economy has undergone major reforms aimed at restoring stability and credibility.

A landmark debt restructuring deal reached in 2023–2024 under the IMF and G20 Common Framework eased repayment pressures

Inflation, which had soared above 20%, is now in single digits, while improved fiscal discipline and investor confidence have strengthened the macroeconomic outlook.

Economic growth remains modest, driven by mining, agriculture, and growing interest in renewable energy.

The government’s free education policy and recruitment of teachers and health workers are helping to boost human capital, though fiscal sustainability remains a concern.

Investor confidence has returned, with rising activity on the Lusaka Securities Exchange, but access to affordable finance continues to challenge small businesses.

Overall, President Hichilema’s administration has restored economic stability and international credibility. The task ahead is to turn these gains into broad-based, inclusive growth that uplifts all Zambians.

Archbishop Alick Banda did not directly or indirectly receive a vehicle from the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA)- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Deliberately Implicating Archbishop Alick Banda

The Kingsley Chanda Case has brought out interesting facts and in my view needs immediate review. I hope Chanda appeals both the conviction and sentence.

First the former Commissioner General does not appear in any record that he approved, processed or benefited in any transfer or sale of the 22 said vehicles but an approved committee handled the matter the entire time.

The case appears to have been designed to reinforce the earlier allegations that State assets were generously being given or distributed to Patriotic Front officials…similar to the hashed facts in the case of Francis Muchemwa,(InterCity Bus Terminus Cadre), where he was convicted for  alleged receiving payments from ZESCO and none of those that listed  him as a worker (yet they claimed he was not) and made regular payments in form of salaries, allowances and emoluments, were never prosecuted.

While Archbishop Alick Banda did not directly or indirectly receive a vehicle from the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), it appears that the single witness who made the testimony, was choreographed  to put on record, court testimony designed to confirm that a vehicle from the Authority was irregularly transferred to Archbishop  Banda.

The person that received the vehicles from the Authority was NOT brought to court to connect or collaborate this strong allegation or could make the alleged link between the buyer and Archbishop Banda.

Clearly, the testimony was made for the sake of the propaganda, political storm and potential harm the allegation would do the Archbishop  and the Catholic Church.

Former ZRA Board Secretary, Suzyo Ng’andu claimed that 8 vehicles were donated to a catholic charity, through a PF official Derick Mpundu, who collected on behalf of Heart of Mercy Children’s  Village with one vehicle alleged driven by Archbishop Banda.

During this period, ZRA donated over 50 vehicles to the Zambia Police, DMMU, charity organisations and churches including the 8 vehicles that went to the Heart of Mercy Children’s Home.

It is clear that the 8 vehicles  took centre stage to focus the allegation to link Archbishop Alick Banda.

No effort was made to bother to collaborate or verify this evidence.

The evidence from Ng’andu had achieved its intended purpose.

The ZRA has repeatedly denied directly gifting the vehicle to Archbishop Banda.

The disposal of government assets, including vehicles, is governed by several laws and policies designed to ensure transparency, accountability, and value for money.

The primary legislation includes the Public Finance Management Act of 2018 and the Public Procurement Act of 2020, which outline the procedures that public bodies must follow.

It’s for this reason we are watching recent decision by Cabinet Office to dispose off vehicles where high value vehicles were irregularly disposed off, especially to senior officials.

Nakacinda summons Sean Tembo, others to attend Tonse emergency meeting

PF secretary general Raphael Nakacinda has ordered Sean Tembo and other Tonse Alliance party presidents and council representatives to attend today’s emergency meeting to be held at the PF secretariat in Lusaka.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/17bUadxS2f/

In a statement, Nakacinda stated that the meeting will be held at the PF secretariat at 08:30 hours.

He said the agenda of the meeting is to review recent political and legal developments affecting the alliance, consolidation of unity and reaffirmation of the Tonse Alliance vision and strategic alignment and the way forward.

“All Presidents and designated representatives of member parties are hereby requested to attend this important meeting without fail. The session will provide an opportunity to realign our collective efforts and safeguard the confidence of the Zambian people in the mission of the Tonse Alliance,” he noted.

I wonder what Archbishop Alick Banda thought was a good reason for him to be gifted a ZRA car- Laura Miti

Laura Miti writes:

I wonder what Archbishop Alick Banda thought was a good reason for him to be gifted a ZRA car.

I mean, what was he told was the reason he had been selected to receive an asset from a public institution, he had no relationship with?

Interesting to know too, would be how the Archbishop feels about two people going to jail for unprocedurally giving him and others cars bought by taxpayers – quite literally.

Without electricity, Africa’s digital future will stall – Hichilema

Without electricity, Africa’s digital future will stall – Hichilema

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has emphasised the importance of investing to actualise Africa’s ambitious digital transformation agenda.

He said the agenda cannot succeed without universal access to electricity.

In his keynote address at the third Digital Government Africa Summit yesterday, President Hichilema said digitalisation and energy infrastructure must go hand in hand if the continent is to realise its full potential.

“Without electricity, we will basically slow down our digitalisation. Energy access must be universal to allow digital access to be universal across the continent,” he stated.

The President called for bold, collective investment in energy and digital infrastructure, urging governments, private sector players and development partners to view electricity as a foundational pillar of Africa’s digital future.

He argued that power should not be treated as a separate issue but rather as an integral part of digital strategy, particularly in efforts to support cross-border trade, digital identity systems and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

“Let’s include energy especially electricity, as part of the investment we need to make. Our aspiration is to be a single, rich market for Africa,” he said.

President Hichilema also spoke strongly about the need for high-quality, affordable digital technologies, pushing back against the narrative that Africa must settle for less.

“Africa does not need third-rate digital technology. We want the first-rate, grade one technology and bring it at a fair price. Access to top-tier digital tools should not be a luxury, but a necessity for the continent’s growth,” the President emphasised.

He also highlighted the broader social impact of digital infrastructure, noting its role in addressing issues such as human trafficking and improving social service delivery.

“A robust digital ID system, supported by reliable electricity and internet connectivity, would not only restore family ties but also help combat illegal activities that distract from Africa’s development agenda,” said the Head of State.

Zimbabwe Slashes More Business Fees – Liquor Licence Now Only US$20

Zimbabwe Slashes Liquor Licence Fee To A Mere US$20 In Dramatic Business Overhaul
In a stunning move to boost the economy, the Zimbabwean government has announced a massive reduction in business licensing fees. The most eye-catching change is the slashing of the liquor licence application fee to just US$20 (approx. R360) for all sectors. This decision, announced on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, promises significant relief for businesses, particularly wholesalers who were previously paying a hefty US$1,080 (approx. R19,440).

The announcement was made during a post-Cabinet media briefing in Harare. The Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere, confirmed the wide-ranging reforms aimed at stimulating private sector growth. The changes are part of a broader July 2025 Cabinet decision to overhaul business regulations across twelve key sectors of the economy.

A Sweeping Reform For Business
The new framework is not limited to liquor licences. The government has approved a comprehensive review aimed at reducing bureaucracy and attracting more investment. According to the post-Cabinet media statement, the reforms include consolidating fragmented licensing requirements into a single licence and scrapping unnecessary levies.

“The liquor licence application fee is to be reduced to US$20 across all sectors,” the official post-Cabinet media statement reads.

“For example, this is a reduction from US$1 080 for the Wholesale Liquor licence application.”

Speaking at the briefing, Dr Muswere provided further details on the government’s strategy.

“Cabinet approved the consolidation of fragmented licensing requirements into a single licence, the streamlining of duplicative and overlapping permits, the removal of unnecessary levies, and the lowering of high fees across major wholesale and retail sub-sectors,” said Dr Muswere.

More Fees Abolished and Capped
The fee reductions extend far beyond the liquor trade. In a significant move for agricultural traders, the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) permit fee of US$200 (approx. R3,600) for trading in veterinary products has been removed entirely.

Bakers have also received good news, with the Local Authority bakery licence fee of US$703 (approx. R12,654) being scrapped. To ensure fairness nationwide, all Local Authority licence fees will now be capped.

The Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, Professor Mthuli Ncube, weighed in on the impact of the previous high charges. He stated that the fees imposed by some local authorities had been a significant deterrent to both local and foreign investment. Dr Muswere added that the reviewed licences, permits and fees will undergo further refinements before being formally gazetted into law.

These sweeping changes to business fees, particularly the dramatic cut to the liquor licence, signal a determined effort by the government to create a more competitive business environment and drive economic recovery.

Most wanted drug lord ‘secures protection in Sierra Leone by having a child with the president’s daughter’

Opposition figures in Sierra Leone have accused a wanted cocaine kingpin of securing protection in Africa by fathering a child with the daughter of Sierra Leone’s president.

Dutch trafficker Jos Leijdekkers, known as Chubby Jos, has spent more than two years on the run in Sierra Leone while being hunted by European authorities.

The 34-year-old, who faces prison sentences totalling 74 years, is allegedly being shielded by President Julius Maada Bio.

Europe

Opposition leader Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray claims that Agnes Bio, the president’s daughter, gave birth to Leijdekkers’ child in New York.

He accused the Bio government of protecting the Dutch fugitive and blocking efforts to bring him to justice.

Leijdekkers has been seen socialising with the Bio family, including at a New Year’s church service filmed and shared on social media by First Lady Fatima Bio, where he appeared standing two rows behind the president.

Footage obtained by Follow the Money and AD also shows Leijdekkers at a private birthday party in March 2024 for Alusine Kanneh, Sierra Leone’s immigration chief, where he presented a gift during the celebration.

Leijdekkers has a €200,000 reward for his capture and reportedly remained in Sierra Leone during the birth, while President Bio visited his daughter and grandchild in New York during the UN General Assembly.

In response to mounting reports, Sierra Leone’s communications ministry issued a statement saying Bio had ‘no knowledge of the identity or the issues detailed’ concerning Leijdekkers.

Convicted multiple times in the Netherlands and Belgium for large-scale cocaine trafficking, Leijdekkers was sentenced in September to eight years in Belgium, bringing his total prison term there to 50 years.

He also faces charges including torture and murder. Last year, he received a 24-year sentence in the Netherlands for his role in six major drug shipments.

Dutch authorities have formally requested his extradition, but the appeal remains unresolved.

Family of teenager who died weeks after being released from jail in Dubai release statement

The family of Marcus Fakana, a teenager who died as a result of a traffic collision, have released a statement.

Fakana previously spent time in prison in Dubai after being arrested there for having a relationship with a fellow Brit while on holiday.

He had been 18 at the time (the age of consent in Dubai) and she 17, meaning their relationship would have been legal back in the UK, but was illegal in the country they met.

The girl’s parents contacted the authorities in Dubai after they had returned to the UK, and Markus was arrested and imprisoned, being released back to England earlier this year.

Sadly, three months after his release, he was involved in a collision on 3 October and died at the age of 19, with the Metropolitan Police later confirming that the teen who died had indeed been Marcus and that he was not the driver of any of the involved vehicles.

The teenager’s family have now released a statement expressing their grief at the loss of Marcus so shortly after getting him back.

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the passing of our beloved son,” the statement read.

“Words cannot express the pain we feel. He was more than just our son – to many, he was a brother, cousin and friend who touched countless hearts.

“To mark the 7th day of his passing, we will hold an Act of Remembrance on Friday the 10th October at 6:00pm, by doing a balloon release.

“We invite you to join us in his honour, with blue and white balloons. We kindly ask that everyone respects our family’s privacy during this difficult time. Your love, prayers, and support mean the world to us.”

Marcus’ family used the caption to thank those who had supported them during such a difficult time for the family and said that they could come to the balloon release.

They said: “Thank you all for the outpouring of love and support. We know that so many of you have been standing with Marcus since the beginning of this year, and your kindness has not gone unnoticed.

“We’ve received countless messages from those wishing to pay their respects, and we’d like to invite you to join us for a balloon release in Marcus’s honour this Friday.”

The family asked that people intending to attend at the Roundway to bring white and blue balloons along with ‘your prayers and a genuine heart’, saying they hope those who attend do so with ‘peace and respect’ for the Fakana family and the space they would be in.

South African  has been warned that the relationship between South Africa and the US could worsen after a Russian cargo aircraft blacklisted by the US, landed in Upington

South African 🇿🇦 has been warned that the relationship between South Africa and the US could worsen after a Russian cargo aircraft, blacklisted by the US, landed in Upington on Thursday.

(By IOL News)
A Russian cargo aircraft, which has been blacklisted by the US, and landed in Upington on Thursday was offloading transport general cargo, civilian helicopters, and acrobatic aeroplanes, the Department of Transport confirmed on Sunday.

The aircraft belongs to Abakan Air, which was blacklisted by the US in June 2024, for transporting Russian military equipment and supporting Russia’s defence industrial base during its war against Ukraine.

The landing of Abakan Air in South Africa has raised concerns that this could exacerbate the already prickly relationship between South Africa and the US.

According to media reports, the Ilyushin IL-76 cargo aircraft landed heavily loaded before it was later spotted empty when it stopped for fuel at Lanseria Airport.

The last recorded position on Flightrader24 (FR24) for the aircraft shows that before the long flight to South Africa via Dar es Salaam, it had been in Iran for a considerable time.

The US Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated the Moscow-based cargo airline as part of a larger round of sanctions targeting Russia.

Asked if the company applied for a foreign operator permit from the Department of Transport, spokesperson Collen Msibi said it had and this was granted.

Msibi said Abakan Air applied for a permit on September 9 and this was issued on September 23 and the purpose was to transport general cargo, civilian helicopters and acrobatic aeroplanes.

“It must also be noted that the South African government has not blacklisted the operator. Furthermore, we have no knowledge or receipt of any information from any other government that this operator has been blacklisted,” he said.

Asked if the Department of International Relations & Cooperation (Dirco) was made aware of this, spokesperson Chris Phiri refused to comment, saying questions should be sent to the Department of Transport.

International relations expert Dr Noluthando Phungula said this will anger US President Donald Trump, adding that it would most likely take a similar route as the ‘Lady R incident’.

The Lady R incident was a diplomatic controversy in December 2022, triggered by the docking of a US-sanctioned Russian cargo vessel at a South African naval base.

The incident sparked international scrutiny and led to accusations that South Africa was supplying weapons to Russia. An independent inquiry was subsequently launched to investigate the matter.  The investigation found no evidence to substantiate the claim that weapons were loaded onto the Lady R destined for Russia.

Phungula said the timing of the incident works against the current engagement between Pretoria and Washington, following the expiration of  African Growth and Opportunity Act (Agoa) agreement.

“Politics is about the acquisition and retainment of power. Iran and Russia are both a part of the formation. The BRICS expansion and growth speaks to a clearer call from the Global South towards multilateralism.

“This inadvertently challenges Western dominance and calls for a reformation of international power structures. This is certainly an uncomfortable reality for the Trump administration,” Phungula said.

South Africa is currently negotiating with the US to secure a renewal of Agoa and to remove the 30% punitive tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. Despite South Africa’s lobbying efforts, Agoa expired at the end of September 2025 without a confirmed renewal.

Nigeria’s president asks parliament to approve $2.3b in new loans

Nigeria’s president asks parliament to approve $2.3b in new loans

By: TRT Afrika

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has asked parliament to approve $2.3 billion in new loans and authorised the issuance of a $500 million debut sovereign sukuk on international debt markets, according to a letter read out to lawmakers on Tuesday.

Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economy, Wale Edun, told an economic summit in Abuja on Monday that the government was focusing on green bonds, sukuk and diaspora bonds, which are priced cheaper than Eurobonds.

Last month Nigeria’s debt office chief told Reuters, that the country could sell as much as $2.3 billion of international bonds before year-end, depending on market conditions.

Nigeria launched its first international bond sale in nearly three years in December, but it has not tapped international capital markets in 2025.

Trump Mocks Al Sharpton By Posting an Old Photo of Him and Calling His TV Show ‘Lowest Rated in History’

President Trump has reignited his feud with Rev. Al Sharpton by posting an old photo of him on Truth Social and calling for an investigation into why the civil rights leader still has a TV show he called the “lowest rated in history.”

According to the New York Post, Trump recently shared the decades-old photo showing a young Sharpton wearing a red shirt, suspenders, and a large gold pendant. The president used the post to renew his attacks on mainstream media, urging the Federal Communications Commission to revoke broadcast licenses from NBC and ABC.

In his post, Trump claimed Sharpton once admired him, saying, “I knew Al Sharpton for many years, not that it matters, but he was a major ‘TRUMP’ fan. He’d ask me to go to his fake Rallies all the time, because I brought BIG Crowds, and he couldn’t get anybody to come without me.”

Trump also mentioned Sharpton’s involvement in the 1987 Tawana Brawley case, where a teenage girl falsely accused several men of rape, saying it damaged Sharpton’s reputation.

He went on to accuse NBC Chairman Brian Roberts of keeping Sharpton’s show on air for political reasons, calling PoliticsNation “one of the lowest rated shows in television history.” Trump claimed Roberts refused to cancel it because doing so “wouldn’t be politically correct.”

Trump also widened his criticism to other networks, accusing NBC and ABC of bias. He claimed both networks air mostly pro-Democrat content and are “97% negative to Republicans.”

Sharpton’s TV show, PoliticsNation, currently airs weekly on MSNBC. Trump has repeatedly suggested the government should consider stripping licenses from major outlets that criticize him

Barcelona and AC Milan will play La Liga and Serie A games abroad

UEFA has confirmed that it has granted permission for La Liga and Serie A to stage league matches overseas, a decision the European governing body described as “regrettable” and “exceptional.”

The approval allows Barcelona to play their La Liga fixture against Villarreal in Miami, Florida, and AC Milan to face Como in Perth, Australia, marking the first time domestic league matches from Europe’s major competitions will be played outside their home countries.

The landmark ruling came after separate requests from the Spanish and Italian football associations were “reluctantly” approved at a recent meeting of UEFA’s Executive Committee in Tirana. In its official statement, UEFA reiterated its “clear opposition” to domestic league matches being relocated abroad but admitted that gaps in FIFA’s regulatory framework left it with no choice.

“UEFA has today reiterated its clear opposition to domestic league matches being played outside their home country,” the statement read. “After consultations with stakeholders, including fans, leagues, clubs, players, and European institutions, it became clear that there was widespread lack of support for such a move. However, given that the relevant FIFA regulatory framework is not clear and detailed enough, the UEFA Executive Committee has reluctantly taken the decision to approve, on an exceptional basis, the two requests referred to it. UEFA will actively contribute to the ongoing work led by FIFA to ensure that future rules uphold the integrity of domestic competitions and the close bond between clubs, their supporters, and local communities.”

UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin also released a separate statement expressing dissatisfaction with the decision, stressing that the approval should not be seen as setting a precedent. “League matches should be played on home soil; anything else would disenfranchise loyal match-going fans and potentially introduce distortive elements in competitions,” Čeferin said. “While it is regrettable to have to let these two games go ahead, this decision is exceptional and shall not be seen as setting a precedent. Our commitment is clear: to protect the integrity of national leagues and ensure that football remains anchored in its home environment.”

The Barcelona vs Villarreal match in Miami is scheduled for January 2026, while Milan vs Como in Australia is expected to take place in February 2026. UEFA confirmed that it remains opposed to the concept and will advocate for new rules to prevent any further games from being staged abroad.

According to reports, FIFA will have the final say, as it is still finalizing its updated regulations on the matter. UEFA officials are working closely with FIFA’s working group to ensure future rules explicitly prohibit relocating domestic fixtures outside their home countries.

The move has sparked widespread criticism from fan groups and European officials. The European Union Sport Commissioner, Glenn Micallef, said last month that staging domestic league games abroad “isn’t innovation, it’s betrayal,” while Football Supporters Europe (FSE) condemned UEFA’s reluctant approval of the two matches despite its opposition.

In its statement, FSE said: “FSE will continue to stand firmly with fans in Spain and Italy in resisting these damaging proposals. Together with our members in these countries, we are looking into every possible option to counter these plans. By forcing through these matches, La Liga and Serie A risk undermining their own history and long-term success while inflicting long-lasting harm to football in Europe, and beyond. Now is the time for a solid regulatory framework that protects domestic competition. We remain committed to working with UEFA, the European institutions, and all relevant bodies to uphold the voice of supporters and protect European football.”

Despite the backlash, UEFA officials emphasized that the exceptional approval was driven by procedural necessity rather than endorsement and reaffirmed their intention to safeguard the integrity and tradition of European domestic football.

Trump confirms Diddy asked him for a pardon following his conviction on pr0stitution-related charges

US President Donald Trump has revealed that Sean “Diddy” Combs reached out to ask for a pardon following his conviction on two pr0stitution-related charges.

Trump disclosed this while speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Monday, Oct. 6, revealing that Sean “Diddy” Combs has requested a pardon as he’s set to serve several more years behind bars.

“A lot of people have asked me for pardons,” Trump said. “I call him Puff Daddy; he has asked me for a pardon.” USA TODAY has reached out to Combs’ representative for comment.

U.S. District Court Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced Combs to 50 months in prison on Friday, Oct. 3, after the embattled hip-hop mogul was convicted in his federal s£x-crimes case.

Combs could be released in less than three years after receiving credit for the time he has already spent locked up at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where he’s been held in custody since his September 2024 arrest.

Combs’ lawyers, who spoke exclusively with ABC News on Friday, said they are considering an appeal, arguing that the judge unfairly imposed a sentence four times longer than what they had requested and that it was improperly based on unproven allegations not included in the conviction.

“The jury made it very clear in their verdict that they acquitted him of the s£x trafficking and the RICO counts,” lead attorney Teny Geragos said at the time. “Not guilty means not guilty.”

According to a letter from his legal team, Combs has asked to serve his sentence at FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal prison in New Jersey that houses about 4,000 inmates and offers a drug treatment program known as RDAP, or the Residential Drug Abuse Program.

“In order to address drug abuse issues and to maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts, we request that the Court strongly recommend to the Bureau of Prisons that Mr. Combs be placed at FCI Fort Dix for RDAP purposes and any other available educational and occupational programs,” Geragos said in the letter on Monday.

I’d have to take a look at it – Donald Trump on possible pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell

After the US Supreme Court rejected an appeal from Jeffrey Epstein’s right-hand woman, Ghislaine Maxwell, US President Donald Trump told a reporter he would “take a look at it”.

Lawyers for convicted British socialite Maxwell argued that she should never have been tried or convicted for her role in luring teenage girls to be s£xually abused by Epstein, a New York financier. Her appeal was rejected.

She is serving a 20-year prison term, but was moved from a low-security federal prison in Florida to a minimum-security prison camp in Texas after she was interviewed by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche in July.

When asked by reporters in the White House about Maxwell’s appeal and a potential pardon, Trump replied: “I haven’t heard the name in so long. I can say this – I’d have to take a look at it… I will speak to the Department of Justice.

“I wouldn’t consider it or not consider it, I don’t know anything about it.

“I have a lot of people who have asked me for pardons… I didn’t know she was even asking for it, frankly.”

Judge’s $1.5m beach house burns down in suspected arson attack weeks after ruling against Trump

A South Carolina judge, Diane Goodstein, whose $1.5 million beach house went up in flames over the weekend, has spoken out after the shocking fire that left her husband and son hospitalised.

The 69-year-old circuit court judge told Daily Mail she was “alright” following the incident, which occurred while she was out walking on the beach in Edisto. Her husband, former state senator Arnold Goodstein, reportedly jumped from a first-floor window to escape and suffered multiple broken bones.

Authorities say the blaze, which completely destroyed the four-bedroom beachfront home, may have been caused by an explosion. Investigators are treating it as suspected arson.

The incident came just weeks after Judge Goodstein issued a ruling blocking the Trump administration’s attempt to obtain sensitive voter registration data of over 3.3 million South Carolina residents.

Reports say the judge had received death threats following that decision. However, there is currently no confirmed link between the fire and the political backlash surrounding her ruling.

Democrat Congressman Daniel Goldman has accused Trump’s former Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller of “doxxing” judges who ruled against Trump, claiming that such actions put lives in danger. Miller, however, denied the allegations.

South Carolina Chief Justice John Kittredge confirmed that the fire was the result of an “apparent explosion” and that the state’s law enforcement division has begun investigations.

Local authorities say extra security measures have been put in place for Judge Goodstein and her family as investigations continue.

Indian lawyer throws his shoe at judge

An Indian lawyer threw a shoe at the country’s Chief Justice BR Gavai in anger over remarks the judge made about a Hindu god.

Rakesh Kishore launched his attack on Monday, October 6, during a court proceeding in Delhi.

Three lawyers present in the courtroom confirmed to the BBC that a shoe had been hurled at the judge, with one saying it “brushed against the chief justice and [another] justice… and fell behind them”.

Mr Kishore was heard saying “India won’t tolerate insult to Sanatan Dharma [Hinduism]”, as he was led away from the courtroom by security officials. He was later suspended from practice.

Advocate Ravi Shanker Jha, a lawyer who was in the courtroom during the incident, told the BBC that Mr Kishore “threw his shoe, and raised his hand to indicate that he had thrown the shoe”.

“After he was apprehended by the courtroom security, the chief justice told the lawyers to continue their arguments and not get distracted,” Mr Jha added.

Chief Justice Gavai remained calm all the time, Anas Tanwir, another lawyer who was in the courtroom, told the BBC.

The chief justice has not publicly commented on the issue. Indian authorities later said no charges would be filed against Mr Kishore.

Rajesh Kishore said he does not regret what he did and accused the Chief Justice of mocking Sanatan Dharma.

“I did not do it; God did. The Chief Justice of India mocked Sanatan Dharma. This was the Almighty’s order, a reaction to an action,” he said.

This comes after the Chief Justice of India drew sharp criticism on social media over his remark on Lord Vishnu. Refusing to entertain a public interest litigation seeking judicial intervention for the reconstruction of a 7-foot beheaded idol of Lord Vishnu in Khajuraho, the Chief Justice reportedly said, “This is purely publicity interest litigation… Go and ask the deity himself to do something.”

The comments sparked controversy, with some accusing him of mocking Hindu beliefs.

Justice Gavai later took note of the criticism, saying he respects “all religions”, the Press Trust of India reported.

“He not only refused to accept the prayer, but made fun of the Lord Vishnu,” Mr Kishore told The Print.

Speaking hours after throwing the shoe, Mr Kishore also said he had “not been able to sleep since 16 September” when Justice Gavai made the remarks.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the shoe attack “utterly condemnable”.

Greta Thunberg mocks Trump for ‘anger management problems’ after he called her ‘crazy’

Greta Thunberg has fired back at Donald Trump after the former U.S. President called her “crazy” and said she should “see a doctor.”

Trump made the remarks after Thunberg was deported from Israel, where she had joined a Gaza aid flotilla. The group of 171 activists had been intercepted by Israeli forces before reaching Gaza and were subsequently deported to Greece and Slovakia.

Referring to Thunberg, Trump said she had “anger management problems”, sparking a sharp response from the 22-year-old Swedish climate activist.

Taking to Instagram, Thunberg responded with characteristic sarcasm, writing: “I heard Donald Trump once again has expressed his very flattering opinions on my character, and I appreciate his concerns for my mental health.”

She continued: “To Trump: I would kindly receive any recommendations you might have to deal with these so-called ‘anger management problems,’ since – judging by your impressive track record – you seem to be suffering from them too.”

Her witty comeback quickly went viral, with fans praising her boldness. One follower commented, “You’re clearly hitting a nerve – keep the pressure on!! Thank you for giving us hope for future generations!” Another joked, “He’s going to need some cream for that burn.”

The exchange came just days after Thunberg spoke publicly for the first time following her release from Israel. Addressing reporters in Athens, she condemned the Israeli government’s actions and the treatment of detained activists.

“This [mission] is a last resort. It is a shame. I could talk for a very long time about my mistreatment and abuses in our imprisonment, trust me, but that is not the story,” Thunberg said.

“What happened here is Israel, whilst escalating genocide and mass destruction with genocidal intent, is attempting to erase an entire population, an entire nation, in front of our very eyes. They once again violated international law by preventing humanitarian aid from entering Gaza while people are being starved.”

Thunberg was one of 437 activists aboard the Global Sumud flotilla, which sought to deliver humanitarian aid to famine-stricken Gaza. The flotilla was intercepted by Israeli naval forces before reaching its destination.

Following their detention, multiple activists claimed that Thunberg was mistreated while in custody. Some alleged that she was dragged by her hair, beaten, and forced to kiss the Israeli flag before being released. Others described “cells with bedbugs,” sleep deprivation, and lack of food and water.

A group representing the flotilla members stated that several detainees were “beaten, kicked, and locked in a cage.”

However, Israel’s Foreign Ministry rejected the allegations, insisting that all detainees were treated lawfully. In a statement accompanied by photos of Thunberg at the airport, the ministry said:

“All participants’ legal rights had been upheld, and the only violence involved an activist who bit a female medic at Israel’s Ketziot prison.”

An Israeli Embassy spokesperson dismissed the abuse claims as “complete lies.”

Thunberg’s confrontation with Trump is the latest in their long-running feud, dating back to her rise as a global environmental figure. Both remain deeply polarizing, Trump for his climate denialism and Thunberg for her unflinching activism, ensuring their exchanges continue to ignite global debate.

Diddy begs judge to let him spend his four-year sentence at low-level New Jersey prison

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is pleading with the judge presiding over his case to serve his four-year prison sentence at a low-level New Jersey facility.

The Digsraced rapper has been locked up at the infamous Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn in the Special Housing Unit since September 2024.

Following the conclusion of his highly anticipated trial and sentencing, his legal team has requested that he serve his time at FCI Fort Dix, a low-security prison in Fort Dix, New Jersey, the Daily Mail can confirm.

The 55-year-old, who was found guilty on two counts of transportation for prostitution in July, made his plea for a cushier facility to Judge Arun Subramanian on Monday.

The notice from defense attorney Teny Geragos reads: ‘On behalf of Mr. Combs, we respectfully request that the Court strongly recommend a designation facility to the Bureau of Prisons in Mr. Combs’ Judgment.

Combs’ team urged the judge to move him to FCI Fort Dix, located on the McGuire Air Force Base, for Residential Drug Abuse Treatment Program (RDAP) purposes and ‘any other available educational and occupational programs.’

Geragos also wrote the change would allow him to ‘maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts’ to tackle his drug abuse issues.

RDAPs typically last from six to 12 months. Enrolled prisoners often live in a designated section of the prison and divide up their days between activities centered around drug abuse treatment and work and educational programs.

Federal prison consultant Sam Mangel told the Daily Mail the program is ‘intense’ and is comparable to AA.

Successful completion of RDAPs can lead to up to one year slashed from prisoners’ sentences, according to criminal defense law firm Elizabeth Franklin Best.

The firm noted that few inmates qualify for sentence reductions and that the MDC does not offer an RDAP to inmates.

Combs confessed in court that his time in federal custody has been the first in 25 years that he has been sober.

‘I lost my way. I got lost in my journey. Lost in the drugs and the excess,’ he said.

Eswatini  to Receive 11 “Dangerous Criminals” from the US  Under $5.1 Million Deal

Eswatini  to Receive 11 “Dangerous Criminals” from the US  Under $5.1 Million Deal.

In a controversial development, the Kingdom of Eswatini is set to receive 11 deportees from the United States under a $5.1 million (R106 million) third-country deportation agreement.

The U.S. describes the individuals as “dangerous criminals” whose home countries refused to accept them back — including offenders reportedly convicted of murder, child rape, and burglary.

Eswatini says the arrivals will be securely housed in isolation at the Matsapha Correctional Complex, working with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to coordinate their repatriation.

Government spokesperson Thabile Mdluli assured citizens that the move poses no security risk, emphasizing that it is part of a broader migration management and humanitarian cooperation effort with the U.S.

The deal has sparked mixed reactions, with critics calling it a “human dumping” program, while others argue it strengthens Eswatini’s international partnerships.

Musamba has since ordered all commanding officers and operational units across the country to remain on high alert, conduct proactive intelligence led policing and take firm but lawful action against any person or group that willfully seeks to incite, organise, or perpetrate violence or disorder.

“commanding officers must ensure quick response capabilities to preserve peace and protect law-abiding citizens,” he said.

The police boss further warned that those found wanting will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the laws of Zambia.

“Let it be made abundantly clear that while the right to peaceful assembly is guaranteed, it must be exercised within the confines of the law.”

“The Zambia Police Service will not tolerate any actions or rhetoric aimed at undermining public order and the safety of citizens. When law enforcement moves in to act, those responsible should not cry foul, as their conduct has clearly shown intent to cause public disorder. The Police will act firmly and decisively,” warned the police leader…https://kalemba.news/politics/police-boss-warns-lubinda-nakacinda-and-team-against-countrywide-protest/

“MWALITETA EXPOSES PF’S TRIBAL AGENDA, URGES UNITY AHEAD OF 2026 ELECTIONS”

Lusaka
United Party for National Development (UPND) Lusaka Provincial Chairperson, Hon. Obvious Mwaliteta, has publicly criticized the Patriotic Front (PF), accusing the former ruling party of fostering corruption, tribalism, and political manipulation.

Addressing the media at the UPND Lusaka Provincial Office, Hon. Mwaliteta condemned efforts by PF operatives to divide Zambians along tribal lines for political gain.

“PF’s agenda is to manipulate innocent tribes to serve their ambitions. But Easterners, Bembas, and all Zambians are equal. We will not fall into their trap,” Mwaliteta asserted.

He further denounced certain religious figures allegedly being used to spread discord, emphasizing that Zambia’s 73 tribes must remain united under one nation.

Hon. Mwaliteta highlighted the UPND’s commitment to national unity, peace and development, praising the administration of President Hakainde Hichilema  for its preparedness and stability.

“HH prepared thoroughly for this country. Today, Zambians enjoy peace, infrastructure development, and social welfare initiatives that were absent under PF. Attempts to create confusion will not succeed,” he said.

The briefing also showcased provincial development initiatives, youth employment projects, and the party’s readiness to contest and win in the 2026 general elections.

Hon. Mwaliteta concluded by urging Zambians to remain vigilant against political manipulation and to support policies that strengthen national unity and progress.

PRESS STATEMENT
For Immediate Release

LUSAKA, Tuesday, October 7, 2025 — The United Party for National Development (UPND) has taken note of recent remarks attributed to Mr. John Sangwa, State Counsel, as reported in News Diggers Newspaper, where he alleges that Zambia is on the verge of becoming a failed state.

As a senior lawyer, one would expect Mr. Sangwa to speak from a position of knowledge, guided by the law. A lawyer who is firm and grounded in legal principles must always be known for citing the law, not making political statements masked as legal arguments.

In his recent outburst, which we can only describe as political rhetoric, Mr. Sangwa failed to cite any specific provision of the law that has been violated.

When he talks about the removal of judges from office, the Constitution of Zambia clearly provides both the process and the grounds upon which such removals can occur. Therefore, we challenge Mr. Sangwa to cite which law has been breached and which provision supports his assertions.

It is increasingly evident that Mr. Sangwa is not standing on firm legal ground. Instead, he has resorted to issuing politically motivated statements, perhaps in pursuit of relevance ahead of the 2026 general elections. We are aware of his ambitions to contest public office, but we must remind him that credibility in leadership is not built on bitterness or frustration.

This is a man who, by his own record, has struggled with interpersonal relations and has long harbored frustrations over not being appointed to the bench.

Citizens will recall that he once claimed that all Constitutional Court judges were unqualified, except himself. Such self-righteousness cannot be the foundation of credible leadership.

As legal practitioners, we must remain guided by law and not speak like ordinary citizens driven by emotion or political agendas. Senior Counsel like Mr. Sangwa should be a source of guidance and enlightenment, not confusion and division.

When he claims that Zambia is becoming a failed state, we must ask: has he forgotten where this country has come from?

• Is the significant reduction in political violence under the New Dawn Administration by accident?
• Are the functioning and independence of media houses under President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership by accident?
• Is the environment of national cohesion and regional representation in Cabinet by accident?
• Is the unprecedented recruitment of over 42,000 teachers in just three years by accident?
• Is the revamping of the mining sector and Zambia’s successful debt restructuring by accident?

These are deliberate policy achievements anchored in good governance and the rule of law, not the characteristics of a “failed state.”

If Mr. Sangwa now wishes to join active politics, we advise him to do so openly and present his manifesto to the Zambian people. Let him tell the nation what judicial or institutional reforms he intends to introduce, what his plan is for economic transformation, and what his agenda is for the ordinary Zambian who has never been to school.

Otherwise, if he chooses to speak like an ordinary politician, we shall take him as one, and not as a legal authority. The UPND remains committed to upholding the rule of law, not the rule by law, and to strengthening institutions that protect democracy and citizens’ freedoms.

We urge Mr. Sangwa to return to the principles of his profession and provide legal guidance, not political commentary. Zambia deserves sober, factual, and constructive discourse, not misplaced frustration disguised as patriotism.
