Boko Haram founder’s son reportedly arrested in Chad

By: TRT Afrika

A young son of Boko Haram’s founder has been arrested in Chad, where he was allegedly leading a terrorist cell, according to both an intelligence source and a former member of Boko Haram.
Mohammed Yusuf was arrested alongside five other suspected members of the terrorist group, which was founded in neighbouring Nigeria a few years before his birth. His father, Mohammed Yusuf, founded the terrorist organisation.
Boko Haram has sown terror around the Lake Chad region for around 15 years, and has mounted increasingly brazen attacks on villages and military bases in recent months.
Chadian police confirmed having arrested six Boko Haram members but could not say if one of them was the older Yusuf’s son.

Blueface’s Shocking New Jail Photos Leave Fans In Disbelief

Social media users have a lot to say about Blueface’s bold new look, which he debuted in one of his latest Instagram posts.

It goes without saying that it’s been a rough couple of years for Blueface. At the beginning of 2024, the “Thotiana” rapper turned himself in. This was just a few months after the birth of his third child, and he’s been behind bars ever since.

his weekend, he gave supporters an update in the form of an Instagram post, which features a few recent photos of him. He seems to be sporting a new hairstyle these days, and looks to have gotten several tattoos on his face since going to jail. “This is not a 50/50 yard,” the carousel is captioned.

As expected, his bold new look has earned big reactions from Instagram users in his comments section. Many feel as though jail has taken a toll on Blueface, and that it’s apparent in these latest photos. Several users are also weighing in on his new ink, making it clear that they can’t get behind it.

Why Is Blueface In Jail?

“They need to let him out before he tattoo his nose,” one commenter writes. “He aged like 50 years in jail,” another claims. “He turned into chrisean with all them face tattoos,” someone else adds. At the time of writing, Blueface has not publicly addressed the criticism.

The Southern California-born performer’s latest stint in jail stems from a probation violation. Reportedly, he was on probation due to a 2021 assault case involving a security guard at a lounge in North Hollywood when he traveled to Las Vegas. Allegedly, he was prohibited from doing so and had a heated run-in with a fan, resulting in a robbery charge.

He does have at least one thing going for him as he serves his time, however. That, of course, is a new relationship with a woman named Angela. It’s unclear how long the two of them have been together, or even when they met, but she appears to be getting close to Blueface’s mother and father while he’s away.

Drake’s jewelry has reportedly been Googled more than any other rappers’ in 2025 so far

According to a new study by the men’s jewelry brand CRAFTD, Drake’s jewelry racks up 63.5K Google searches per month.

It’s no secret that Drake is a huge influence in the world of music, but it looks like he’s also a huge influence when it comes to jewelry. According to a new study by the men’s jewelry brand CRAFTD, his jewelry has been Googled more than any other rappers’ in 2025 so far. Reportedly, it racks up a whopping 63.5K searches per month. His chain in particular has seen a 399% spike in the past month.

Other rappers who made the list include Playboi Carti, Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, and more.

The increased interest in Drake’s jewelry in recent weeks might be thanks to his tour alongside PartyNextDoor. The two of them are currently making their way around Europe in support of their joint album, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, which dropped this February.

The tour has been a success so far, and European fans have made their appreciation for the Toronto MC known. He performed for two nights in Cologne earlier this month, for example, and hundreds of his German supporters gathered around his hotel just to catch a glimpe of him leaving.

The “$ome $pecial $hows 4 EU” tour will conclude with a performance in Hamburg, Germany in September. Touring and flaunting his influential jewelry is far from all Drake is making headlines for these days, however.

He’s also currently gearing up to drop his ninth studio album, ICEMAN. He’s previewed the project with two singles already, “What Did I Miss?” and “Which One” featuring Central Cee. It has no official release date at the time of writing, though Johnny Manziel recently provided fans with an unexpected update on when they can expect to hear it. “Soon, probably, around the end of October, maybe early November,” the Texas A&M athlete said during an interview.

White Police Officer Caught on Camera Flirting With Young Black Woman Being Arrested

Ebonie Collins, a 27-year-old African American woman from Chicago, led police on a high-speed chase through the city after speeding and sideswiping cars. Following her arrest, officers made flirtatious remarks to her, which were caught on video and quickly went viral.Earlier this month, Collins drove recklessly from Oak Brook to the Dan Ryan Expressway, attracting the attention of Oak Brook police. She managed to avoid capture for a while, sideswiping cars and even making contact with a police vehicle, according to Fox 32 Chicago.

To track her movements, officers used license plate readers and a police helicopter. Despite the intense pursuit, police decided not to use GPS dart technology due to safety concerns.

The chase ended when Collins tried to flee on foot after stopping on the Dan Ryan Expressway. However, officers quickly apprehended her. Collins faces multiple charges, including aggravated fleeing, speeding, and driving an uninsured vehicle. She also has a criminal history dating back to 2017.

The arrest took an unexpected turn when officers began joking with Collins. Bodycam footage posted on Instagram showed them laughing and telling her, “You’re like a race car driver.” One officer even asked about her relationship status, mentioned his salary, and showed interest in her TikTok and Instagram.

People on social media quickly reacted, with some joking that the officers were willing to pay her bond or even take her on a date.

One officer even joked about dropping the charges, but authorities confirmed that Collins was properly charged for her actions.

Black Judge Arrested for Shooting, Almost Killing Her Ex-Boyfriend Who Wanted to Break Up With Her

Sonya McKnight, an African American judge from Pennsylvania, has been found guilty of attempted murder and aggravated assault after shooting her ex-boyfriend in the head. The shooting happened on February 10, 2024, after her ex-boyfriend, Michael McCoy, tried to end their relationship.McKnight, who served as a magisterial judge in Dauphin County, entered McCoy’s Harrisburg home and shot him while he was asleep. The bullet passed through McCoy’s face, leaving him blind in one eye. He had reportedly asked McKnight to move out several times before the incident.

According to People, McCoy told investigators he had been asleep for about an hour when he woke up with severe head pain and vision loss. He claimed the last thing he heard before going to bed was McKnight saying, “Oh, so you’re serious?”

Cumberland County District Attorney Sean McCormack stated that only McKnight and McCoy were in the house at the time, and McCoy denied harming himself.

McKnight’s attorney pointed to gunpowder residue found on McCoy’s hands as possible evidence of reasonable doubt. But after two days of witness testimony, the jury reached a guilty verdict.

McKnight was suspended from her position after her arrest. Following the conviction, her bail was raised to $3 million, and she was sent to Dauphin County Prison. Her sentencing is set for May.

22-Year-Old Man Who Shot and Killed His Grandparents, “God Told Me To Do It”

Jeremyah Campbell, a 22-year-old African American man from West Melbourne, Florida, is accused of fatally shooting his grandparents and injuring a neighbor. Authorities said he later claimed that God told him to commit the crime.

Deputies said Campbell shot and killed the Rev. George White, 83, and Mary White, 81, inside their home. A neighbor was also shot but survived the attack. Campbell was arrested shortly after and charged with two counts of murder.

According to WESH, the arrest affidavit shows deputies found Campbell “sobbing uncontrollably and shouting a stream of incoherent words.” He allegedly told officers that “God told him to send his grandparents to him.”

Investigators reported that Campbell appeared disoriented when taken into custody. A search warrant noted he was sweating, had dilated pupils, and described bizarre visions. He claimed to see a cyclops and said Satan was inside his head.

Family members told detectives that Campbell had argued with his grandparents earlier that evening. The dispute reportedly stemmed from suspicions that he was under the influence of an unknown drug at the time.

Campbell is currently being held at the Brevard County Jail without bond as the investigation continues.

New Orleans’ First Black Woman Mayor Faces Federal Charges Over Secret Relationship With Bodyguard

LaToya Cantrell, who became the first Black female mayor of New Orleans about 7 years ago, has been recently indicted in a case accusing her of trying to cover up a romantic relationship with her bodyguard. She now becomes the city’s first mayor charged while in office, facing allegations of fraud, conspiracy, and obstruction.

According to CNN, federal prosecutors say Cantrell and her bodyguard, Jeffrey Vappie, misused taxpayer money to fund their private meetings and out-of-town trips. Vappie allegedly claimed he was on duty while spending time with the mayor at wine tastings, getaways, and even apartments where the two met alone.

The indictment claims Cantrell arranged for Vappie to join her on at least 14 trips paid for by the city, with travel costs exceeding $70,000. One cited example was a trip in 2022, where Cantrell skipped a Miami conference to travel to Martha’s Vineyard while Vappie traveled under city funding for a different event on the same island. Prosecutors said the mayor described these trips as times “when they were truly alone.”

Authorities say the pair exchanged more than 15,000 encrypted WhatsApp messages, which were later deleted. In one exchange, Vappie recalled a 2021 trip to Scotland as “where it all started.” Investigators also claim Cantrell lied in an affidavit about when she activated auto-delete on her phone.

When a private citizen photographed the pair dining together, Cantrell reportedly filed a false police report and sought a restraining order.

Vappie, who retired from the police department in 2024, already faces charges of wire fraud and making false statements. He has pleaded not guilty.

City officials confirmed the mayor’s lawyer is reviewing the case. Cantrell has not publicly commented since July, when she last posted on her official social media account.

Her allies argue she is being unfairly targeted as a Black woman in leadership. Acting U.S. Attorney Michael Simpson dismissed that claim, saying, “It’s irrelevant that it’s romance or that it’s female.” Instead, the case is about “an incredible betrayal of people’s confidence in their own government.”

Cantrell’s second term has been turbulent, marked by clashes with the city council, a failed recall effort, and declining public support.

Meanwhile, Cantrell’s husband, attorney Jason Cantrell, died of a heart attack in August 2023. The couple shares a 15-year-old daughter.

South African Police Launch Manhunt After Two Zimbabwean Men Shot Dead in Limpopo

Police have launched a major manhunt after two men were shot dead at Ha-Rangani Village in the Masisi policing area, Vhembe District, on Sunday, 17 August 2025. The victims, aged 30 and 28, were both Zimbabwean nationals originally from Bulawayo—one lived in Musina Location and the other in Ha-Rangani Village.

Police responded to a complaint around 07:30 and found a white Toyota Hilux 2.8 GD abandoned in the bush beside a gravel road. One man was discovered in the driver’s seat with multiple gunshot wounds, while the second victim was found nearby, also fatally shot. Investigators recovered live ammunition, spent cartridges, and one of the deceased’s cellphones at the scene.

A case of two counts of murder has been opened at Masisi Police Station, and the matter has been handed over to the Provincial Organised Crime Unit for further investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Lieutenant Colonel Rodney Ndou at 082 807 2666, their nearest police station, the Crime Stop number 08600 10111, or submit anonymous tips via the MySAPSApp.

After the news broke on X (Twitter) on Monday, 18 August 2025, reactions were mixed. Many users expressed shock and sadness over the killings, while others celebrated the deaths and suggested no further investigation was needed.

Here are some of the comments:

@LugileK:

We don’t have humans in SA anymore. With these types of comments, I am so scared of the human beings we have in this country. You guys continue to prove whites right. How do you celebrate the death of someone who never did anything to you?

@24_Langa:

Somebody ring Colonel Ndou up and tell him to close the case; justice is done.

@Kg200520:

Their brothers kill South Africans like flies, so they don’t deserve any sympathy or tax resources; they must be taken back to Zim, and they will see what they do with their problems.

I’m embarrassed – Neymar Jr breaks down in tears after suffering worst defeat in his career

Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr was reduced to tears after suffering the worst defeat of his career with Santos against Vasco da Gama.

Santos faced Vasco da Gama in a decisive Serie A clash and suffered a crushing 6-0 defeat, a result that leaves them in serious trouble in the standings. Both clubs entered the match battling relegation, making it a crucial contest. Neymar Jr could not make an impact for Santos, while Philippe Coutinho stepped up in style for Vasco.

This loss marked the worst defeat of Neymar’s career, a devastating blow as Santos continue their fight to avoid relegation. The No. 10 left the field in tears and had to be consoled by head coach Fernando Diniz. To make matters worse, Neymar picked up his third yellow card of the season, which rules him out of the next match against Bahia.

Santos now sit on 21 points in 15th place, slipping dangerously close to the relegation zone. The result also had immediate consequences off the field, as head coach Cleber Xavier was dismissed by the club’s board right after the final whistle.

After the game, Neymar did not hide his frustration. “I’m embarrassed. I’m totally disappointed with our performance,” he told reporters. “The fans have every right to protest, obviously without violence… But if they want to curse and insult us, they are in their right.”

“It’s an extreme shame. I had never experienced something like this in my life. Unfortunately, it happened,” he continued. Asked about his tears, Neymar admitted: “The tears were from anger, from everything. Unfortunately, I can’t help at all. Honestly, it was total crap — that’s the reality.”

Trump is not a force for good – London Mayor

0

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has expressed his willingness to meet with Donald Trump even after the US President insulted him.

Khan previously cautioned that Trump is “not a force for good” and his actions could unintentionally radicalise individuals.

During his visit to Scotland, Trump hit back, labelling the London Mayor as “a nasty person” who has “done a terrible job”.

However, Khan has shrugged off Trump’s comments as “water off a duck’s back”.

Speaking at an event at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Khan likened the experience to being “nine years old again” and feeling like he was “in the school playground”.

In response to the US President’s remarks, Sir Sadiq Khan, while appearing on the Political Party show with comedian Matt Forde, said: “Somebody who has views like he does about black people, about women, about gays, about Muslims, about Mexicans, thinks I’m nasty.

“Really. He is the leader of the free world, arguably the most powerful man in the world, and really.”

He highlighted that records indicate a surge in Americans applying for British citizenship and residing in London since the start of Mr Trump’s second term in January this year.

The Mayor said: “So I think Americans have got good taste by and large.”

He also expressed hope that the US President would visit London during his state visit to the UK next month, emphasising that the capital’s “diversity” is a “strength, not a weakness”.

Discussing the city’s diversity, he asserted: “I think it makes us stronger not weaker, richer not poorer.”

He expressed concern over President Trump’s rhetoric, stating, “And when President Trump says some of the things he does, it brings from the periphery to the mainstream, views that are potentially dangerous.

“He inadvertently – I’m not going to suggest he does it deliberately – he inadvertently could be radicalising people with views that could lead to them doing things that are dangerous.”

The London Mayor voiced fears that minorities “could be treated less favourably because of the views of the President of the USA”, accusing Mr Trump of “using London and our diversity as a political football, as a proxy for a culture war”.

Despite personal attacks, the Mayor remained unfazed, saying, “On a personal level, it is water off a duck’s back, but we can’t run away from the fact that there are some really serious challenges we face as a western society and President Trump, in my view, I speak generally, isn’t a force for good.”

However, he maintained his willingness to meet with President Trump, expressing his desire to demonstrate that it is “possible to be proud to be a westerner and a proud to be Muslim, that it is possible to be British, and proud to be British, and be of Pakistani origin and be a law abiding citizen and we aren’t three headed monsters”.

The Labour politician stated: “I suspect President Trump may have formed a view of Muslims because of the actions of a small minority of really bad people who are terrorists and use Islam in a perverted way.

“What I would want President Trump to know is that is a very small fraction of Muslims across the globe.

“So if there was an opportunity to meet President Trump, I would be more than happy to do so.”

Trump tells Zelenskyy to drop Crimea and NATO ambitions

0

US Leader, Donald Trump has increased pressure on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ahead of high-stakes talks in Washington, suggesting that Ukraine could “end the war almost immediately” if it abandoned its pursuit of NATO membership and efforts to reclaim Crimea.

Posting on his Truth Social account, Trump stated:
“President Zelenskyy of Ukraine can end the war with Russia almost immediately, if he wants to, or he can continue to fight. No getting back Obama-given Crimea (12 years ago, without a shot being fired!), and no going into NATO by Ukraine. Some things never change!!!”

Trump tells Zelenskyy to drop Crimea and NATO ambitions ahead of Washington talks with European leaders

The comments came just hours before Zelenskyy’s scheduled White House meeting with Trump, followed by a larger summit with European leaders including those from Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Finland, the EU, and NATO. Diplomats are concerned that Trump may pressure Kyiv into accepting concessions favorable to Moscow.

The European delegation is expected to reaffirm support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and oppose any peace deal involving territorial concessions. They are also seeking clarity on what kind of security guarantees Washington might extend to Ukraine outside of NATO.

Arriving in Washington late Sunday, Zelenskyy struck a tone of unity and resilience:
“I am grateful to the president of the United States for the invitation. We all equally want to end this war swiftly and reliably. I hope that our shared strength with America and with our European friends will compel Russia to real peace,” he wrote on Telegram and X.

The White House confirmed Trump will meet Zelenskyy first in the Oval Office before hosting European leaders in the East Room.

The talks follow Trump’s summit with Vladimir Putin in Alaska last week, widely seen as a win for Moscow. Trump, however, insisted that the meeting had made “big progress” on Russia.

Meanwhile, Russia’s envoy to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, said any future peace deal must include security guarantees not only for Kyiv but also for Moscow.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, ahead of the Washington summit, praised Trump’s efforts to pursue peace but stressed that no settlement could be reached without Ukraine’s full involvement. He also urged tougher sanctions on Russia.

Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, added that Putin had, for the first time, agreed to allow U.S. and European protection for Ukraine as part of a deal — a structure outside NATO but modeled on the alliance’s Article 5 collective defense principle.

JFK’s grandson mocks Melania Trump for writing Russian President Vladmir Putin letter

0

Jack Schlossberg, grandson of John F. Kennedy, has ignited controversy by mocking First Lady Melania Trump over a letter she sent to Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding children affected by the Ukraine conflict.

In a video posted on social media, Schlossberg donned a blonde wig, left his face unshaven, and read Melania’s letter aloud in a heavy Slovenian accent.

He captioned the post in all capital letters, mimicking President Trump’s style: “A message from our BEAUTIFUL FIRST LADY,” followed by Trump’s trademark sign-off, “thank you for your attention to this matter, We want peace!” Schlossberg then added a sarcastic critique of the letter, stating, “What am I saying? This make no sense. Please be more specific Miss Melania Trump.”

The letter, which President Trump delivered to Putin in person during last week’s summit in Alaska, urged the Russian leader to protect the innocence of children in service of Russia and humanity. While the letter did not mention Ukraine explicitly, it emphasized the war’s impact on children and called on Putin to “single-handedly restore” the “melodic laughter” of those affected.

Schlossberg, 32, has frequently used social media to voice criticism of the Trump administration. Last month, he opposed efforts to rename the Kennedy Center Opera House after Melania Trump, calling the move an example of suppressing free expression. In the latest post, he also joked about helping Trump achieve his “life-long goal” of changing the Kennedy Center’s name if Trump released his “Epstein files.”

Schlossberg was recently appointed to the America250 Commission by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, and he thanked Schumer for his “leadership at this critical hour,” promising not to let him down.

Commentators note that Melania Trump’s letter reflects her ongoing influence behind the scenes and her attempt to assert an independent voice despite maintaining a low public profile. Former White House correspondent Kate Bennett told CNN that the letter demonstrates Melania’s care for children and her political engagement, adding that her conservative values align closely with her husband’s.

Lungu Family spends  approximately 400,000 kwacha per day  in South  Africa- Hon. Matomola  Likwanya

By Hon. Matomola  Likwanya

The cost for storing a deceased body at a South African private hospital can vary, but generally, it’s included in the basic undertaker fees, which start around R4,000 which is about k 5,280.85 daily. If we multiply by 60 days it’s = k 316,851

cleaning and taking care of the body daily it’s R10,000 per day which is k 13,202.91  If you multiply ✖️ by 60 days it’s = k 792,174.6.

Hiring a private burrial at a VVIP burrial place like the one the Lungu family picked it’s R 50,000 which is k 65,990.75 plus other funeral arrangements like coffin, funeral services it gets to R 300,000.

Hiring a private security agents in South Africa per hour is R 250 multiplied by 24 hrs that R6000 multiplied by 60 days its R360,000 which Is k475,144.20.

The above costs are on their own with booking apartments for months for over 100people plus legal fees to hire what they call the best lawyers in South Africa. How much do you think they are spending on a day in expenses.

It’s estimated that they spend close to R 300,000 per day on expenses which is about k 395,963.40 multiplied by 60 days it gives you about k 23,757,804 which they have spent so far for the time they have been in South Africa.

Doesn’t that ring a bell on how much this family has in wealth and how they have managed to be this rich in a short space of time.

————-/////—————————////———————-
• They don’t care if the case moves for a year because they have money but if they are concerned about the expenses they are meeting, why have they hired a lawyer who has failed to settle this matter in time. The new lawyer has prolonged this issue and added on the expenses.

ECL BURIAL COURT CASE POSTPONED INDEFINATELY & MY APEAL TO PRESIDENT HH- Miles  Sampa

ECL BURIAL COURT CASE POSTPONED INDEFINATELY & MY APEAL TO PRESIDENT HH

August 18th, 2025

So the Widow’s lawyer submitted this morning to the Pretoria High Court Judges that they no longer had jurisdiction (authority) to deliberate on the case because the defendant (Widow & 7 others) had taken the case to the Constitution Court. It’s a legal procedural requirement that the High Court steps aside or put the case on ice until determination or s ruling is made by the superior constitution court.

The Constitution court is yet to set a date of the hearing.

As I predicated last week; it’s going to be a long haul or journey on this matter. Been around corridors of Courts for a while now on different matters to be able to know so.

Meantime status quo will remain as is and wishes of the government that were granted in the High Court remain suspended until the matter is completed in the Constitution Court.

No winner situation and if anything we are still in a lose-lose for both sides and for the entire Country.

I am not in a position to render any advice to the family and on principle don’t think that mine or anyone’s role to do so. Based on our Zambian culture and what been accustomed to; it’s to respect to abide by wishes of the deceased person.

I am however on terra firma or firm grounds to render advice to the government and in essence President HH.  They should give in to the family wishes and let them burry ECL as they please. If it’s in Zambia, let their wishes prevail on who can and can not attend. Whether or not there should be body viewing and who can or who can not.

Taking this matter like a football final game that has to have a winner and a loser, will not see an end or final whistle any time soon. It will only be the lawyers on both sides that will be laughing all the way to the Bank to withdraw their millions of Rands.

The family is using personal money while the government is using public money and which the problem here.

The unbudgted for money being or to be paid by the government can be used to buy 1 million 25Kgs bags of mealie meal to give free to Zambians wallowing in poverty out there. Alternately, that money can be used to buy not 70, but 70,000 cows to give free to the peasant farmers of Kalomo and Kazungula districts.

Rupiah Banda’s niece Dolika Banda  officially joins the presidential race

PRESS STATEMENT
DATE: 18 AUGUST 2025
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ISSUED BY THE OFFICE OF MS. DOLIKA BANDA

Today, I announce that I am seeking to run for the Office of the President of the Republic of Zambia in the 2026 election.

It is my conviction that it is time for serious leadership, selfless leadership, and sober leadership.

I pledge to bring to the table, a lifetime of service, global financial experience, and a heart that beats for this country.

I have not taken this decision lightly: we are living in a political culture where power often resists correction, where intimidation can precede truth. Our democracy is strained. The promises of
prosperity have given way to daily struggle in Zambian homes. The rule of law has been selectively applied, state institutions weakened, and public trust eroded.

Yet there is hope. Something wonderful, vibrant and intentional is unfolding to restore the foundations of this great and beautiful nation. Over the next few weeks, I will unveil a team of
honest and competent Zambians, young and old, who are joining me in this cause.

But it must unfold with order, with honour, and in the spirit of national service and candid reverence for
God who has planted the mandate in my heart to take Zambia forward. Let authenticity rule.

I am no stranger to the challenges of rebuilding, reforming, and restoring. My leadership has always been marked not by noise, but by quiet competence, compassion, and a determined
resolve to uplift those left behind by the opportunity train. I have negotiated international investments with the same passion with which I have fought for the ordinary market woman. My
record is built across borders and in-country, deeply and visibly grounded in service to the people.

Zambia shall reclaim her national pride, dignity, opportunity, and fairness. A nation where mining revenues fuel schools and hospitals, where climate finance reaches farmers, where young
entrepreneurs are invested in. And where public office is not the pinnacle of ambition but the beginning of service.

We will turn away from strongmen, saviours and favour, and toward institutions, ideas and ideology, and intergenerational justice.

Together we will renew our democracy, heal divisions, and chart a path where hope is earned by hard work, shared sacrifice, and a steadfast belief that a better future is deserved by all and that, that future begins today. Zambia, are you ready?

UPND govt’s  greatest achievement is directionless leadership- Fred M’membe

It’s very clear that Mr Hakainde Hichilema and his UPND government don’t know where they are headed, and that is very dangerous. Their greatest achievement is directionless leadership. Mr Hichilema appears to be in control, but no one knows where he is leading. We all make mistakes.

But few people have been consistently wrong on all the great issues that faced our nation over the last half decade as Mr Hichilema has. Blunders are everywhere. Wherever one turns, there’s a crisis – the body, electricity, diesel, soccer, cost of living, health services, and so on and so forth. Today, there’s a very serious crisis at NHIMA threatening the lives of  so many people.

At the rate they are mismanaging NHIMA, it will become very difficult to rescue it even by a new government.

The failure to pay hospitals is a symptom of deeper misgovernance and gross incompetence on the part of Mr Hichilema and his UPNDgovernment.
NHIMA has two many internal ailments; no interest and capacity to collect contributions, and sadly, absent is cost control.

Instead of increasing collections,  they removed key diseases from their list. Instead of deploying collection systems, they are now delaying paying private hospitals.

Instead of finding innovative medical equipment financing methods, they are directly procuring medical equipment paying huge upfront sums, thereby taking money meant to pay claims to private hospitals.

It’s a sad state of affairs. In the original design of NHIMA, with universal access to quality health care at the core, private health facilities were critical players. Because of their ability to expand quickly and offer better quality than public health facilities, it incorporated a 30-day FIFO ( First In First Out) robust claims payment system. All these seem to have been abandoned. It also incorporated effective claims fraud detection, prevention, and management protocols. Again, these were diluted, and we saw the blame shifted to private health facilities.

Most critically, there was a claims collection and management model that should have expanded collections even at the current 1%. The model was dumped as “private sector” obsession in a parastatal where BOMA won’t allow NHIMA to collapse even if no collections were made.

At this point, the government must immediately release the Statutory Instrument to increase the contribution rate from 1% to 2.5% and the contribution base from base to gross salary. On condition that management and the board have a tight contribution collection and management strategy,  and that claims and overhead costs are reigned in .

HH’s cabinet tribally balanced, with exceptional leaders – RPP youth chairman

President Hakainde Hichilema has selected a cabinet that is tribally balanced, with a deliberate effort to select individuals with exceptional leadership qualities, says Republican Progressive party (RPP) youth chairman Constantino Mubita

In a press statement, Mubita stated that RPP youths were inspired by President Hichilema’s cabinet.

“The caliber of ministers appointed is truly impressive, and it’s evident that the President has made a deliberate effort to select individuals with exceptional leadership qualities. These men of integrity have demonstrated exemplary character in their personal lives, prioritizing their families and communities,” Mubita stated.

“Notably, ministers like Felix Mutati and Doreen Mwamba have shown remarkable leadership in their personal lives, with well-managed households and families. This reinforces the adage that one who cannot manage their own home cannot effectively govern a country.

… please issue pastoral letter, Zambia is in disarray

Citizens First (CF) leader Harry Kalaba has demanded a pastoral from the Catholic Bishops because so many things have happened and the country is just in disarray.

In an interview with Daily Revelation yesterday, Kalaba said so many things had happened, citing the issue of late president Edgar Lungu’s body not being brought into the country to be buried among other issues.

He said there was also an issue of loading shedding now as ZESCO had announced that Zambians were now going to experience 19 hours of darkness daily, with the government further announcing the export of over

… and he died from throat cancer

By Mubanga Mubanga

PF deputy secretary general Brenda Nyirenda has accused the UPND of delaying the burial of Lungu so that they continue to campaign, while the PF remain static.

And Nyirenda says the UPND already planned to “kill” former president Edgar Lungu by going for his throat,  and he ended up dying with throat cancer.

UPND Lusaka Province chairman Obvious Mwaliteta accused the PF of using the body of Lungu to attract sympathy from the Zambian people.

Reacting to Mwaliteta’s allegations in an interview with Daily Revelation on Saturday, Nyirenda said delaying the burial of Lungu was a tactic.

“It  is their tactic. They are trying to delay the burial of ECL, so that they can continue moving on their own, and not allowing the PF to move. Even me

Opposition must not be hypocritical over ECL’s burial – Nkandu

By Mubanga Mubanga

UPND deputy spokesperson Elvis Nkandu says those championing for late president Edgar Lungu to be buried outside Zambia, failed to honor the wish of the family of first Republican president Kenneth Kaunda to be buried outside Embassy Park.

Last week,  Citizens First (CF) deputy secretary general Mwaba Kasese Bota said President Hakainde Hichilema was holding the body of Lungu to ransom.

Bota said she would have loved for President Hichilema to be the second chief mourner behind the widow, on account of the clout he would give the burial, but he should abide by what the family had decided.

But speaking in an interview with Daily Revelation over the weekend,  Nkandu said  the opposition must not be hypocritical over the burial of Lungu.

He asked why they did not also honor the wishes of Dr Kaunda.

Nkandu said Lungu was not an ordinary citizen for him not be buried like other late presidents.

“We still believe that let the body come so that the former president is buried where other colleagues have been buried. I think for us, we have been clear. So that is what we expect from our colleagues; they can talk about anything. Why didn’t they also honor the wish

HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION SAYS CHISHIMBA KAMBWILI RECEIVING ADEQUATE MEDICAL CARE IN CUSTODY

HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION SAYS CHISHIMBA KAMBWILI RECEIVING ADEQUATE MEDICAL CARE IN CUSTODY

By Leah Ngoma

The Human Rights Commission has confirmed that former cabinet minister, Dr. Chishimba Kambwili, who is currently detained at the Lusaka Central Correctional Service facility is receiving medical care, with no indication so far that his health needs exceed the capacity of the medical personnel attending to him.

Commission Spokesperson Mwelwa Muleya says the Commission’s findings, following a recent visit to the facility, revealed that Dr. Kambwili has been receiving adequate medical attention since his transfer to Lusaka from Kasama on August 5, 2025.

Mr. Muleya says Dr. Kambwili was placed in the facility’s clinic to accommodate his health needs, including access to an elevated bed.

He has since assured the public that the commission will continue to monitor Dr. Kambwili’s health and take further action, if necessary, based on professional medical assessments.

The Commission’s visit came in response to media reports and concerns raised by some stakeholders regarding Dr. Kambwili’s alleged deteriorating health.

“We are drained and on the verge of collapse, forced to provide NHIMA services without a single payment in return”

“We are drained and on the verge of collapse, forced to provide NHIMA services without a single payment in return”

The Health Care Federation of Zambia (HFZ) says the country’s private health sector is on the brink of collapse due to non-payment of bills by the National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA).

Speaking during a media briefing this morning, HFZ said its members have continued to serve hundreds of thousands of Zambians under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), but have not been paid for services rendered since mid to late 2024.

“We are exhausted and financially strained from continuing to provide NHIMA services without receiving payment from NHIMA,” HFZ declared.

The federation accused NHIMA of breaching contractual obligations, noting that all health care providers (HCPs) are legally supposed to be paid within 45 days of submitting claims. Instead, HFZ claims NHIMA has introduced an “unwritten rule” prioritizing payments to public health facilities, leaving private providers struggling to survive.

The statement further criticized NHIMA’s unilateral decision to revise tariffs in January 2025, saying the new structure is unrealistic and unsustainable. An outpatient visit remains capped at K600 but is now subdivided into K150 for drugs, K150 for lab tests, K50 for registration, K50 for consumables, and K200 for consultation. Chronic patients are now limited to one visit every three months, capped at K1,200 for all treatment.

HFZ argues these amounts fall far short of covering the cost of quality care.

“Public facilities are cushioned by government funding, but private facilities must cover salaries, equipment, consumables, and taxes from the same inadequate tariffs. It is unfair and unsustainable,” the federation stressed.

The federation warned that without urgent intervention, many private facilities will be forced to retrench staff or close entirely — worsening unemployment and reducing access to health services. It also noted that private insurance companies are being squeezed out of the market due to NHIMA’s dominance, with some already shutting down.

HFZ appealed directly to President Hakainde Hichilema to intervene, saying the private sector is a key driver of the economy and must be treated as an equal partner in health care delivery.

“We do not want NHIS to collapse. It is a game changer for Zambian citizens. But unless NHIMA clears arrears and creates a fair playing field, the private health sector cannot survive,” HFZ warned.

The federation concluded by reaffirming its commitment to supporting government in achieving universal health coverage but stressed that sustainability requires fair treatment, timely payments, and meaningful consultation.

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA DATES NORTH WESTERN PROVINCE

President Hakainde Hichilema is tomorrow expected in Northwestern Province for a one day working visit to officiate at the opening of Kansanshi Mine’s S3, a 1. 2 Billion United States dollar investment expansion project whose construction has been completed.

Speaking during a media briefing in Solwezi today, Provincial Minister, Robert Lihefu disclosed that the 1.2 Billion dollar investment is expected to have a positive impact on the economy of Zambia.

Mr Lihefu says this is in line with President Hakainde Hichilema’s vision of increasing copper production to three million tonnes per annum by the year 2031.

The S3 involves expanding the mining pit, constructing a new processing plant, and enlarging the smelter, aiming to increase copper production and extend the Mine’s lifespan.

The project is a key component of Kansanshi’s growth and is expected to significantly boost copper production.

The S3 project represents a substantial investment of US$1.25 billion.

ENERGY EXPERT SAYS ZAMBIA’S ENERGY SECTOR PERFORMANCE IN FIRST HALF OF 2025 STRESSFUL

ENERGY EXPERT SAYS ZAMBIA’S ENERGY SECTOR PERFORMANCE IN FIRST HALF OF 2025 STRESSFUL

Energy expert Dr. Johnstone Chikwanda has described the performance of Zambia’s energy sector in the first half of 2025 as stressful, particularly in the electricity sub-sector, which has been severely impacted by drought-induced power outages.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Dr. Chikwanda cited hydroelectric power generation that has been drastically reduced due to low water levels in major reservoirs like Lake Kariba and the Kafue River Basin.

He says Zambia’s energy sector is expected to remain challenging, with efforts focused on diversifying the energy mix and enhancing renewable energy contributions.

Dr. Chikwanda, however, notes that the petroleum sub-sector has performed relatively well, with reasonable fuel availability and significant price discounts.

He observes that despite isolated instances of fuel shortages, the sector has seen notable price reductions, with prices falling by 20-30% since March.

On future fuel price projections, Dr. Chikwanda believes the exchange rate will play a crucial role in determining further price adjustments, while stable global oil prices and continued favorable exchange rates could lead to sustained price relief.

KANCHIBIYA MP DEMANDS GOVERNMENT ACTION TO PROTECT TRUCK DRIVERS

KANCHIBIYA MP DEMANDS GOVERNMENT ACTION TO PROTECT TRUCK DRIVERS

Kanchibiya, Monday 18th August 2025

Kanchibiya Member of Parliament, Hon. Sunday Chanda, has called on the Government to urgently intervene and protect truck drivers from what he described as “exploitative working conditions.”

Hon. Chanda said truck drivers play a critical role in sustaining Zambia’s economy by transporting fuel, food, raw materials, and manufactured goods, yet many of them continue to work without contracts, leave days, or access to NHIMA and NAPSA benefits.

“It is unacceptable that truck drivers, who keep our economy moving, are treated as second-class workers. They deserve dignity, fair treatment, and protection under the law,” he told Smart Eagles.

The lawmaker has urged the Ministry of Labour and Social Security to introduce a Statutory Instrument specific to truck drivers to guarantee contracts, fair wages, leave days, and overtime pay.

He further called for mandatory NHIMA and NAPSA contributions, stricter road safety and occupational health standards, and stronger labour inspections in the transport sector.

Hon. Chanda also proposed the creation of a tripartite dialogue platform between Government, employers, and driver associations to resolve grievances and improve working conditions.

He stressed that protecting truck drivers is not just about safeguarding their rights but also about strengthening food security, transport safety, and the overall economy.

“It is time to end exploitation in the transport sector and give truck drivers the dignity, respect, and protection they deserve,” Hon Chanda said.

LETS TALK SINE DIE

LETS TALK SINE DIE

When the Appellate Court says the matter be adjourned sine die ( indefinitely) , in the issue in Pretoria, they are basically saying that because they do not know how long it would take the Concourt to conclude on the application made by the Lungu family , it is difficult for the court of Appeal to set the date for hearing the appeal from the Lungu family ; thus the Concourt may hear the application or dismiss it .

After that , the appellate court now set dates with counsel from both sides to hear the Lungu family appeal .

Remember , there are two matters that are active ; one is the appeal against the judgement to repatriation, the other is an application at the Concourt .

So for the court to know the date which is available , the Concourt must first conclude and this is what made the court to talk of “indefinitely”.

NEW ACC OFFICERS URGED TO UPHOLD INTEGRITY

NEW ACC OFFICERS URGED TO UPHOLD INTEGRITY

Anti- Corruption Commission Zambia (ACC) Board Chairperson, Justice Evans Hamaundu (RTD), on Friday welcomed 14 new officers who graduated after intensive training in investigations, urging them to uphold integrity.

“I am aware that you have gone through rigorous training — physically, mentally, and ethically — to prepare you for the critical role of fighting corruption in our country. You have been equipped with the tools of investigation, prosecution, prevention, and public education. More importantly, you have been entrusted with a sacred responsibility: to be guardians of integrity in our society,” he said.

Justice Hamaundu reminded them that serving in the ACC is not merely a job but a calling that demands adherence to the Commission’s core values of integrity, transparency, confidentiality, excellence, impartiality, and accountability.

Meanwhile, ACC Director General, Mrs. Daphne Chabu, also encouraged the officers to remain resolute in the fight against corruption, stressing that it is not for the faint-hearted as the corrupt often resist.

She urged them to execute their duties with urgency, professionalism, and without compromise.

Ruto Declares War on Corrupt MPs: ‘We are not going to shame them; we are going to arrest them,’

President William Ruto has announced that the government will apprehend and prosecute all leaders, particularly Members of Parliament and Senators, who have been soliciting and receiving bribes to perform their legislative duties.

Speaking on Monday during a joint parliamentary group meeting between the Kenya Kwanza Alliance and the Orange Democratic Movement party, the visibly angry Head of State read the riot act to lawmakers following reports that a majority of them, particularly at the committee level, had been demanding bribes to influence outcomes.

According to Ruto, he receives raw intelligence regularly and is reliably informed that some lawmakers have been consistently taking bribes.

“They are collecting money in the name of Parliament, and sometimes that money never gets to Parliament. Instead, it ends up in the pockets of a few individuals. We are not going to shame them; we are going to arrest them,” Ruto said.

Ruto referenced the Anti-Money Laundering Bill passed by the House a few weeks ago, noting that cheques were used in an attempt to influence the outcome of the Bill.

The Head of State indicated that there was one of the lawmakers from the Senate who, for instance, had obtained a total of Ksh150 million to influence the outcome of a matter before the House. However, he did not disclose the name.

”I am a consumer of raw intelligence. Do you, for example, know that a few members of the House here received upto Ksh10 million to pass the Anti-Money Laundering Bill? Do you know that? Did you get the money?” Ruto posed.

Adding that, ”There are people who are destroying the credibility of the Parliament. Some of the time, that money never gets to Parliament: it only gets to a few people.”

He expressed frustration at the growing impunity, warning that this culture of corruption had to come to an end.

According to the President, the time had come for the government to decisively confront and eradicate the vice. He affirmed that no one would be spared, regardless of their political affiliation or seniority.

HUGE CROWDS GATHER IN ISRAEL CALLING FOR HOSTAGE DEAL AND END TO GAZA WAR

HUNDREDS of thousands of people have gathered in Israel to call for an end to the Gaza war and a deal to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas.

The largest crowd was seen in Tel Aviv’s “Hostages Square” on Sunday, with the organisers saying the government’s plans to seize control of Gaza City risked the lives of around 20 hostages still being held by Hamas.

A one-day national strike part of wider protests closed roads, offices and universities in some areas. Nearly 40 people were arrested during the day.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticised the protests, saying they would “harden Hamas’s stance” and would only slow down the release of the hostages.

Legal Purgatory: The Painful Limbo of President Lungu’s Burial- Rev Walter Mwambazi

‎ Legal Purgatory: The Painful Limbo of President Lungu’s Burial
‎A reflection 爵 by Rev Walter Mwambazi

‎The latest development in the burial saga of Zambia’s sixth Republican President, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, is not just a legal technicality – upit’s a national heartbreak. The Pretoria High Court has postponed the case indefinitely, pending a hearing in the Constitutional Court. No date has been set. No closure offered. Just silence.

‎And so, the body of a former head of state remains in Johannesburg, suspended in what Simon Mwewa Lane Television aptly called legal purgatory. It’s a term that captures the surreal and painful reality: a man who once held the highest office in our land now lies in limbo, his final journey stalled by courtroom filings and unresolved appeals.

‎⚖️ What Does This Really Mean?

‎This isn’t just about legal procedure. It’s about dignity, legacy, and the soul of a nation.

‎ No burial date means no closure for the family, the nation, or the institutions tasked with honoring him.
‎ No repatriation means Zambia cannot fulfill its constitutional and cultural duty to bury its leaders in the land they served.
‎ No resolution means the body of a former president is effectively “stuck” – guarded in a morgue, watched by private security, and politicized by rumor and suspicion.

‎This is NOT how we honor our dead. And certainly not how we honor a former head of state.

‎ The Emotional Toll

‎For many Zambians, this delay feels like an insult to our collective memory. Whether one supported President Lungu or not, his role in shaping Zambia’s history is undeniable. To see his body caught in a legal tug-of-war is deeply unsettling.

‎ Families mourn in silence.
‎ Citizens watch in confusion.
‎ The nation waits, powerless.

‎This is not justice. It’s paralysis.

‎ The Danger of Rumors

‎In the vacuum of resolution, rumors have flourished. Allegations of ritualistic intent, political vendettas, and spiritual manipulation have clouded the discourse. These claims, while emotionally charged, lack credible evidence and risk turning a solemn moment into a circus.

‎Let’s be clear:

‎ State funerals are ceremonial, not spiritual.
‎ Body viewing is a universal practice of closure, not a ritual.
‎ The government’s filings focus on protocol and honor, not mysticism.

‎We must reject fear-based narratives and focus on truth, dignity, and national healing.

‎️ A Plea for Resolution

‎This indefinite postponement is not just a delay – it’s a denial of closure. It’s time for all parties to rise above personal grievances and political rivalries. The burial of a president is not a private affair. It is a national moment.

‎Let us:

‎ Urge the Constitutional Court to expedite the hearing.
‎ Call on both the family and the government to prioritize dignity over discord – a process that has been painful to follow to say the least!
‎ Remind ourselves that honoring the dead is a reflection of who we are as a people.

‎President Edgar Chagwa Lungu deserves to be laid to rest in Zambia. Not because of politics. But because of principle.

‎And so once again, we wait! 梁

Luugu family still fighting, the state is still waiting, and the final word will now likely come from the Constitutional Court

⬆️ CONTEXT | Pretoria High Court Adjourns Lungu Case Indefinitely

The Pretoria High Court has adjourned sine die, Latin for “without a date,” the appeal brought by the family of former Zambian President Edgar Chagwa Lungu. The family is challenging a ruling that directed his remains be repatriated to Zambia for burial. By halting the case without fixing a new date, the High Court has effectively paused the process, leaving the legal and political questions hanging.

✅ What “Sine Die” Really Means

In law, an adjournment sine die is not a decision on the merits of a case. It is a procedural move that leaves the file open but inactive. The case has not been dismissed, but the court will only return to it if one of the parties applies for a new date or if higher court orders demand it. In practical terms, it is a way for judges to acknowledge that another forum i.e. the Constitutional Court in this case may now be the proper venue.

 Why It Happened

The Lungu family filed a fresh application in the Constitutional Court last Friday, asking for direct access and urgent relief against the repatriation order. Once that was in motion, the High Court was caught in a procedural overlap. Continuing with the appeal risked conflicting with whatever the apex court might decide. By adjourning sine die, Pretoria avoided duplication and allowed space for the higher court to speak first.

⚖️ Legal Effect on the Repatriation Order

It is important to stress that the High Court’s original order, that the remains be returned to Zambia still stands. An adjournment sine die does not suspend that order on its own. Unless the Constitutional Court grants interim relief, the ruling technically remains enforceable. In practice, however, the state and the family are unlikely to act until the higher court clarifies the path forward. This is why legal watchers call it a “grey zone” period: the judgment is binding but not moving.

⚡ Strategic Implications

For the Lungu family, the adjournment buys time. It allows their Constitutional Court petition to take centre stage and shields them, at least temporarily, from the immediate enforcement of the repatriation order. For the Zambian government, the delay is less ideal. It prolongs an already sensitive dispute that touches on sovereignty, protocol, and public sentiment around the burial of a former president. Each side is weighing both courtroom tactics and political optics.

 The Road Ahead

The Constitutional Court will now decide two things: first, whether to grant the Lungu family “direct access,” which is exceptional and only allowed in matters of great constitutional importance; second, whether to stay or overturn the High Court’s ruling. If the apex court declines direct access, the family may still have to return to the ordinary appeal track, bringing the High Court back into play. If access is granted, the case jumps straight to the top bench.

 Why It Matters

This indefinite adjournment keeps the dispute alive but unresolved. It highlights how South Africa’s layered court system works and why burial disputes can become constitutional issues when they involve a former head of state. For ordinary readers, the bottom line is this: nothing has been settled. The family is still fighting, the state is still waiting, and the final word will now likely come from the Constitutional Court rather than Pretoria’s High Court. Until then, uncertainty remains the order of the day.
