PRAISE FOR GOVERNMENT BY THE MILLERS ASSOCIATION PREMATURE

PRAISE FOR GOVERNMENT BY THE MILLERS ASSOCIATION PREMATURE – SP

…the UPND had promised that a bag of mealie meal would cost K50, says Chinyama

Lusaka… Saturday May 24, 2025 –The opposition Socialist Party (SP) has raised concerns over premature celebrations by the Millers Association of Zambia (MAZ) regarding the recent partial reduction in mealie meal prices in some parts of the country.

In a statement issued to the media, SP Presidential Advisor, Preston Chinyama, questioned whether the association was aligning itself with “the public relations efforts of the ruling UPND.”

He expressed shock that MAZ appeared to have forgotten the recent hardships faced by Zambians in accessing mealie meal and other maize products.

According to Chinyama, the country had only recently emerged from a period marked by serious debates on the availability of maize, farming inputs, and the effects of climate change on agriculture.

He reminded the public that the nation had experienced protests over the alleged distribution of genetically modified (GMO) maize sourced from South Africa, which had reportedly been given to certain milling companies.

The government at the time claimed that Zambia was only a transit point for the maize, stating that the intended destination was the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Documents were presented in defense of this claim, though several ministries were implicated in the controversy.

Mr. Chinyama further recalled the health concerns that had been raised over “toxic maize brands,” referencing specialist analyses that sparked widespread alarm.

He noted that many Zambians had gone to bed hungry during the peak of mealie meal shortages and emphasized that those memories were still fresh.

While he acknowledged that any gains made in stabilizing the mealie meal situation were welcome, he warned against forgetting the recent past.

He urged policymakers and stakeholders to approach the issue on a region-by-region basis, considering that harvest outcomes and levels of need varied across the country.

Addressing the current price drop—from K400 to K350 per 25kg bag of mealie meal—Chinyama argued that this was not a significant reduction.

He reminded the public that the UPND had promised during its campaign that a bag of mealie meal would cost K50.

He called on the ruling party to deliver on its promises, asserting that time was running out and public demand for fulfillment was increasing.

He cautioned MAZ President Andrew Chintala against making statements that could be interpreted as political spin.

According to Chinyama, MAZ, as a key stakeholder in the food security sector, must exercise greater care in its communication and should avoid celebrating what he called “temporal gains.”

He concluded by suggesting that MAZ’s recent statements could be viewed either as a contribution to political public relations or as part of a broader attempt at impact mitigation, adding that the public would ultimately judge their motivations.

NGOCC CONCERNED BY THE DELAYED PUBLICATION OF THE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT BILL

NGOCC CONCERNED BY THE DELAYED PUBLICATION OF THE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT BILL

The Non-governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has noted the delay in the publication of the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Bill, 2025, with serious concern. It may be recalled that on 25th March 2025, the Minister of Justice Hon. Princess Kasune MP delivered a ministerial statement in the National Assembly, outlining the thirteen proposed amendments with specific timelines.

As of 21st May 2025, the Government was supposed to publish the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Bill 2025 in the Gazette for 30 days. This was for the purpose of public consultation in accordance with Article 79 of the Constitution, Cap 1. However, as of 23rd May 2025, the said Bill was not published.

The non-adherence to the timelines in this very important process is a cause for serious concern. Given the sensitivities around matters of constitutional amendments, the least the government can do is miss critical timelines. What is even more worrying is the government’s reluctance to proactively engage the members of the public over this delay. In fact, this delay casts serious doubts on the government’s ability to meet the tight deadlines set, let alone deliver on this task in time before the August 2026 general elections.

It has been NGOCC’s position over the years that the low numbers of women, persons with disabilities and youth, were in part, due to inadequate legal and policy framework. Therefore, we have been desirous to see the proposed amendment aimed at addressing this historic exclusion of the marginalized groups.

In view of the above, we challenge the government to update the nation on the constitutional amendment process and particularly, explain the delay in the release of the Bill and the implication on other processes thereafter.

DPP PLEDGES TOUGHER STANCE—NO MORE WITHDRAWAL OF GBV, DEFILEMENT CASES

Lusaka, Zambia – May 24, 2025

In a bold declaration, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Gilbert Phiri has reaffirmed the National Prosecution Authority’s (NPA) commitment to ending Gender-Based Violence (GBV) by adopting a zero-tolerance policy towards the withdrawal of GBV and defilement cases from court.

Speaking during the launch of the Spotlight 2.0 Initiative, Mr. Phiri stated that the NPA is actively pursuing evidence-based or “victimless” prosecutions in cases where survivors retract their statements or are pressured to abandon the pursuit of justice.

“We will not allow justice to be derailed by fear or intimidation. Whether testimony is retracted or not, if there is evidence, we proceed,” Mr. Phiri said.

The Spotlight 2.0 Initiative, which seeks to eliminate violence against women and girls, is being supported by international partners.

Gender Division Permanent Secretary Mainga Kabika hailed the government of Ireland for its continued support, noting that the 1.9 million USD in funding under the initiative will greatly boost efforts in gender equality and women empowerment.

Ireland’s Chargè d’Affaires, Kate O’Donnell, emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes of gender inequality, stating that the initiative provides a platform for long-term, sustainable change.

Zambia’s Smallholder Farmers Face Access to Finance Crisis Despite Government Support — Dr. Frank Kayula

Zambia’s Smallholder Farmers Face Access to Finance Crisis Despite Government Support — Dr. Frank Kayula

The President of the National Association of Smallholder Farmers, Dr. Frank Kayula, has raised the alarm on the worsening financial access crisis affecting small-scale farmers across Zambia, despite several government-led efforts to ease credit flow into the agricultural sector.

Speaking at a recent stakeholder briefing, Dr. Kayula expressed deep concern over the reluctance of commercial banks to lend directly to full-time farmers, despite the existence of government-backed credit guarantee schemes. Instead, banks continue to favor salaried workers and intermediary institutions, thereby denying genuine smallholder farmers direct access to financial resources crucial for boosting production and productivity.

“It is unfortunate that despite government introducing credit guarantee funds to cushion banks, many financial institutions still choose to lend only to salaried individuals,” said Dr. Kayula. “This excludes the very farmers who need it most those dedicated full-time to agriculture.”

He further lamented that intermediaries entrusted with managing funds often divert them to non-farming ventures or part-time ‘briefcase’ farmers, undermining the purpose of financial inclusion initiatives.

Dr. Kayula also pointed out that this trend contradicts successful financial inclusion models seen in developed countries, where banks assess each smallholder enterprise on its own merit, rather than applying broad generalizations about risk.

“We want Zambian banks to stop putting all smallholder farmers in the same risky category. There are committed and productive farmers who simply need capital and support. Let’s make the loan facilities more accessible,” he urged.

Additionally, Dr. Kayula highlighted the dire state of Zambia’s soil health, citing declining organic matter as a major threat to sustainable agriculture. He called for a national soil mapping initiative to provide farmers with better data for informed decision-making, adding that improved soil management practices are long overdue.

“Many of our farmers are still using outdated farming practices passed down from their great-grandparents. These are not effective. We need a shift to scientifically proven methods to restore productivity,” he emphasized.

On the pricing front, Dr. Kayula revealed that most maize on the market is currently fetching under K200 per 50kg bag — a figure far below the break-even threshold for farmers.

“From our analysis, farmers need to sell maize at a minimum of K380 per 50kg bag just to break even. Anything below that is a loss. We are therefore recommending a fair price of at least K400,” he stated.

He urged farmers not to succumb to desperation and sell their produce at throwaway prices, but rather to practice patience and diversify into other value streams while waiting for favorable market conditions.

“Don’t be pressured into selling at ridiculously low prices. Learn to be patient. Diversify your income sources so you’re not forced to sell when the market is down,” advised Dr. Kayula.

The National Association of Smallholder Farmers plans to issue formal recommendations to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) and other stakeholders, pushing for price adjustments and policy reforms that truly empower Zambian farmers.

ECZ GETS GREEN LIGHT ON MFUWE SEAT

ELECTORAL Commission of Zambia (ECZ) chief electoral officer Brown Kasaro says the commission has been notified by Speaker of National Assembly Nelly Mutti of the vacancy in Mfuwe constituency.

Responding to a press query, Mr Kasaro said the matter is under consideration for a by-election in accordance with Article 57 (1) of the Constitution.

And the ECZ chief electoral officer has urged political parties that will be participating in the various upcoming by-elections to abide by the electoral code of conduct.

A parliamentary by-election is due in June in Lumezi Constituency in Lumezi District, Eastern Province, plus two local government by-elections in Fibalala Ward in Milenge District, Luapula Province, and Tuuwa Ward in Sikongo District, Western Province.

Mr Kasaro said, “Should there be any complaints or cases of conflicts during the by-elections, political parties and other stakeholders should take advantage of the Conflict Management Committees, which are in every district, to report any matters of conflict”.

He also implored political parties to report matters of a criminal nature to the police and other law enforcement agencies.

Open letter to President Hichilema

Mr. President, Your Men are Very Corrupt

Open letter to President Hichilema.

Dear Mr. President, I hope that this letter finds you well and deeply reflecting on the future direction of our nation.

Mr. President, please accept my sincerest apologies for openly expressing myself in this manner. Having made several unsuccessful attempts to communicate privately with you through your advisors, I have been left with no choice but to submit my concerns in writing. I have consulted with most of your advisors, who, upon hearing my plight, have chosen to exercise restraint for fear of the individuals I have called out. I trust that you will treat the issues I raise with the seriousness and gravity they deserve, given their genuine and benevolent intent.

Mr. President, I feel obliged to discuss governance issues and your seeming nonchalance regarding some nominees, who appear to have been afforded excessive freedom to misconduct themselves without repercussions. Here, I specifically mention the unchecked misconduct of your Solicitor General, Marshal Muchende, who has, in collaboration with my former client Maba Medicals, caused me undue hardship.

Mr. President, as an attorney in good standing, I am available to provide legal services to any entity requiring my expertise. My former client, Maba Medicals, retained me for representation, and I provided the service. Unfortunately, Mr. President, I encountered Mr. Muchende, the Solicitor General, who allegedly utilized his position to acquire confidential information regarding the government’s plan to liquidate my client’s debt after admitting owing through us.  Mr. Muchende’s actions, motivated by greed and abuse of authority, compromised my interests and demonstrated professional misconduct and corruption which I seek to bring to your attention through this letter.

In response to Mr Muchende’s misconduct, I sought assistance from the Attorney General, Mr Kabesha Mulilo SC, who, upon hearing my concerns, requested written documentation of my issues for him to take action, which I provided. For a considerable time, Mr Mulilo SC assured me that he would resolve my situation without any action until someone from within the Ministry of Health informed that about USD 1.6 million had since been paid out to Maba Medicals behind my back as an interested party.

Upon discovering this act of impunity, I consulted the Attorney General, who, despite his prior commitments to provide assistance, unexpectedly retreated from his position and claimed a familial connection to Mr. Muchende, citing him as his Siamese twin. I found this assertion detrimental to my cause, as it seemed designed to exonerate his subordinate of blatant professional misconduct, which I continue to allege. The Attorney General appears inclined to protect Muchende, and in so doing, he sought to tactfully dismiss my demands by requesting that I produce a court order, in the hope that the firm I operated under would stop me from instituting court proceedings to obtain the order, which I effectively fought.

What is remarkable is that the Attorney General resisted the court process once instituted, despite having initiated the demand for the court order and having conceded owing Maba Medicals through a letter addressed to us as Maba Medicals’ lawyers. This was subsequent to their payment of a substantial USD 1.6 million to Maba Medicals without our knowledge, having expressed concerns seven months prior.

Mr. President, I respectfully request your intervention in  matter due to the unacceptable behavior exhibited by those who attempted to dishonestly deprive us of our legal fees, seemingly leveraging their connection with you to grant themselves unwarranted latitude, as if they are above reproach, which negatively impacts us. They have greatly abused their position owing to their collusion with our former client, a feat we have vowed to fight no matter the odds.

Typically, a courtroom should function as a forum for relief for individuals who have been wronged, and my resolve to pursue justice through the courts has remained steadfast. Nevertheless, I am sensing that the same individuals I am denouncing are attempting to manipulate the courts to undermine the pursuit of justice. They have deliberately sought a court order from us solely to impede our efforts to obtain our legitimate legal fees, which are owed to us due to their unprofessional actions intended to deprive us of our rightful fees.

Mr. President, you assumed office on a promise to eradicate impunity, a hallmark of the previous administration. You committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring equal justice for all citizens. However, your failure to censure Mr. Muchende for his multiple abuses of authority, including his attempt to sue Dr. O’Brien Kaaba, apparently aimed at preemptively silencing Dr. Kaaba from exposing his alleged abuse of state facilities, and Mr. Muchende’s attempts to gag me by reporting unsubstantiated professional misconduct against me  to the Law Association of Zambia, has led many to question your administration’s resolve to create a more just society.

I have suffered injustice at the hands of your Solicitor General, sir. His relentless opposition has brought me to a point where, had my plight not gained public attention, I dread to think of the repercussions beyond his resolve to withhold my legally earned fees. Consequently, my children have been denied access to education, and I have faced systematic suppression for resisting his bullying behavior.

Mr. President, I would like to bring to your attention that every allegation inherently possesses two sides. Your decision not to take disciplinary action against Muchende, notwithstanding the widespread public awareness of my situation and similar concerns, leads me to infer that you either regard him highly and believe him to be incapable of misconduct or that you tend to accept his version of events without due consideration for opposing viewpoints. Should you not have endeavored to hear the alternative perspective, I hereby invite you to hear my side of the story. Muchende has been publicly bragging about his proximity to you, asserting that his actions are immune to consequences, despite the substantial evidence.

Over the past three years, I have vigorously pursued reimbursement for my legal fees, only to be met with fierce resistance from Muchende, who has exploited his impunity to frustrate my efforts. I humbly request a meeting with you, sir, to provide evidence corroborating my allegations, enabling us to reach a resolution and conserve the court’s resources for more meritorious cases. With your assistance, we can streamline the court’s docket, ensuring that more critical matters receive the urgent attention they warrant. It is imperative that the Attorney General’s chambers adhere to their mandate, litigating matters of public interest, rather than being manipulated to serve individual agendas that subvert justice.

I look forward to hearing from your good self sir believing that with this benevolent plea, I could finally see justice served as I have endured the impunity of your nominee without recourse.

Ndamana.

Yours faithfully,

Frank Gwaba.

Congratulations to CEC—and a well-deserved salute to LuSE for being the cradle of Zambia’s first homegrown billion-dollar enterprise

CEC HITS $1 BILLION VALUATION ON THE LUSE!
By Dr Lubinda Haabazoka

Good morning colleagues. I woke up to the news that CEC has achieved a $1bn valuation of the Lusaka Stock Exchange! This gives hope to most of us who really push wealth creation for Zambians! Guys its possible to build the next billionaire in Zambia!

As a former member of the Nuclear negotiating team (Head of the Commercial Group) between the Zambian government  and the Russian government, I cannot not over emphasize the importance of the energy sector as a catalyst for national economic growth.

So the Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc (CEC) has officially become the first Zambian company to surpass US $1 billion in market capitalization, making it the most valuable brand on the Lusaka Securities Exchange (LuSE). This outstanding achievement, confirmed by LuSE trading data of 23 May 2025, positions CEC not only as a national pride but also as a continental leader in private sector-driven energy development.

1. So what is Market Capitalization—and Why It Matters

Market capitalization, or market cap, refers to the total market value of a company’s outstanding shares of stock. It is calculated by multiplying the company’s share price by the total number of its outstanding shares. Market cap is a critical measure of a company’s size, financial stability, and investor confidence. A $1 billion market cap places CEC in the elite category of “unicorn” companies—public firms with valuations exceeding the billion-dollar threshold.

This status signals that the company is not only financially strong but also widely trusted by investors who see long-term growth potential and solid governance practices. For a Zambian firm to reach this benchmark speaks volumes about the maturity of the local capital markets and the evolving investment climate in the country.

2. Why CEC’s Milestone Matters for Zambia’s Energy Future

CEC’s record valuation comes at a time when the region is under severe energy pressure due to the worst drought in decades, which has wiped out about 70% of Zambia’s hydropower generation. Yet, despite this adversity, CEC has managed to inspire investor confidence through its bold strategic decisions and strong financial performance.

Key to this success was the issuance of a US $200 million green bond, channeled through its subsidiary, CEC Renewables Limited. This initiative is transforming Zambia’s energy landscape, setting the stage for the country’s largest solar power capacity of 236MW by year-end 2025. The company is also expanding cross-border transmission with a second interconnector to the DRC, enhancing export potential and regional grid stability.

This level of innovation and investment not only strengthens energy security but also enhances Zambia’s standing in the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP), positioning it as a key energy player in regional trade.

3. Opportunities for Zambians in the Energy Sector

CEC’s growth unlocks a multitude of opportunities for Zambian citizens and businesses:

– Employment Creation: The expansion of renewable energy and transmission infrastructure will create new technical, construction, and operations jobs, especially for young engineers and technicians.

– Local Entrepreneurship: SMEs can participate in the energy value chain—ranging from equipment supply to environmental services and logistics.

– Green Innovation: CEC’s focus on solar energy and sustainability opens doors for local startups to enter the green tech space through partnerships or service provision.

– Capital Market Participation: Zambians can invest in listed companies like CEC through LuSE, enabling wealth creation and financial inclusion.

– Skills Development: Collaboration with universities and training institutions can foster specialized programs in energy economics, renewable engineering, and power systems management.

4. A Win for LuSE and the Nation

This milestone is not just a triumph for CEC but also a historic moment for the Lusaka Securities Exchange, which has now officially given birth to a billion-dollar brand. It validates the strength of Zambia’s regulatory environment, the effectiveness of LuSE as a capital mobilization platform, and the country’s readiness to support high-growth, high-impact companies.

As the country grapples with climate challenges and a changing energy landscape, CEC is proving that sustainable innovation and solid governance can attract capital, build investor trust, and deliver national progress. There is enough room for everyone!

Congratulations to CEC—and a well-deserved salute to LuSE for being the cradle of Zambia’s first homegrown billion-dollar enterprise.

LIVING A LIE – A SCORE OF 7/10
WHILE YOUR OWN FRIENDS SCORED YOU 4/10- Fred M’membe

LIVING A LIE – A SCORE OF 7/10
WHILE YOUR OWN FRIENDS SCORED YOU 4/10

In life, the most confused we ever get is when we try to convince our heads that something we know deep down our hearts is a lie, is true. It’s so painful, frustrating and stressful to live a lie. Like hiding how you genuinely feel, saying what you assume other people want to hear, and doing things you don’t actually want to do—just because you think you’re supposed to.

This above is the perfect description of Mr Hakainde Hichilema’s current situation. Mr Hichilema is a troubled man, who is fighting his own inner demons of lies and manipulation. That is why he is trying so desperately to convince all of us that lies he told, and are now back to haunt him, can easily be coveted into accomplishments, of which we must praise him for. How?

He thinks it’s straightforward to claim victories when in reality, there is nothing to prove that he has indeed done well. Mr Hichilema’s overinflated ego has misled him into believing that deception, manipulation and arrogance is the currency of leadership. But he’s mistaken because Zambians know the kind of a liar he is, and how lost he is in his own mind, and his own heart to realize that he is in fact, a victim of his own lies.

That is why while all indicators show otherwise, he is today telling us that they have scored 7/10, while their own friends are telling them that they have only scored 4/10. In which country is Mr Hichilema and his league living? Is this how power blinds people?

Surely, can living a lie sustain them? Impossible! No matter what they do or say, aba bena nabaya.

We urge Zambians to psych themselves up for a new, honest, inclusive and genuinely democratic government in August next year.

TONSE ALLIANCE REJECTS  UNITED OPPOSITION FRONT OVERTURES – TEMBO

BREAKING: TONSE ALLIANCE REJECTS  UNITED OPPOSITION FRONT OVERTURES – TEMBO

By KBN TV Staff Reporter

Tonse Alliance says it has unearthed a scheme where some Alliance members are working with the remnants of UKA and Socialist Party to create what they are calling a United Opposition Front both in  Lumezi and going forward

Tonse Alliance Spokesperson, Sean Tembo told KBN TV in an interview that the United Opposition Front was  allegedly opposed to having the former Head of State Edgar Lungu as Chairperson of the Alliance.

“They want to create a parallel structure where the Chairmanship can become debatable or rotational with the intention to get rid of ECL,” Tembo said.

He said it was regrettable that some members of Tonse Alliance were entertaining the idea to push the Socialist Party as the anchor Party and main beneficiary  of the scheme.

“It seems the plan that was initially exposed through the leaked audio has actually not died down and the push to collaborate with us in the Lumezi by-election is not in good faith,” he said, adding that “if they continue with the scheme, it will be impossible to go into Lumezi with them.”

When contacted for a comment, United Opposition Front representative, Muhabi Lungu said he was reluctant to respond to Tembo about Lumezi or the details about working together adding that “the people we have been working with from Tonse don’t include him.”

Lungu confirmed that he and Ambassador George Chulumanda were the architects of the United Opposition Front, an idea they have been developing over the last two years.

He said the idea was premised on getting parties together to marshal a united opposition going into the 2026 elections.

“We didn’t want a messiah, that was a general principle without refering to any specific individual or political party. We said anyone who is excited about power is a wrong candidate to the extent that they don’t want to be legitimised by others,” said Lungu.

He said the greatest danger to the UPND, is a reasonably united opposition but the UPND and its surrogates are trying to kill the unity in the opposition.

He refuted claims that the United opposition Front was trying to front a specific individual saying ” we don’t have preferences of which person or party, but we just wanted to have a legitimate process.”

Both UKA Chairperson and Socialist Party officials were not available for comment by press time.

UKA TO SUPPORT CITIZENS FIRST  IN LUMEZI

UKA TO SUPPORT CF IN LUMEZI

23/05/2025

The United Kwacha Alliance will support its former Alliance partner the Citizens First, CF, in the upcoming LUMEZI by elections.

While in UKA, the CF was the one that would participate in almost all by elections, even in areas that other Alliance members had pledged to field candidates but failed to do so on nomination day. The CF showed capacity, dedication and determination to participate in these various by elections.

The UKA Chairman Mr. Robert Chansa has commended the CF for participating in the by elections as this ensures that the opposition presence and determination to better the lives of Zambians is enhanced. This is so because it cultivates the ground and helps prepare for the opposition election victory in 2026.

‘We have sadly noticed that there are some overzealous opposition leaders who want to paint the picture that unless you work with them then you are not working as opposition. We would like to urge these people to stick to their own agendas and concentrate on fighting the ruling party and not each other.’ Mr. Chansa said.

‘UKA will not be deterred by any misguided voice in its quest to support any formidable opposition like the CF whose works speaks for itself on the ground, unlike align with boardroom politicians who spend all days and time in meetings in Lusaka instead of working on the ground,’ he said.

UKA further believes that fake displays of unity to stop others from participating in elections while plotting to damage each other’s images is the reason why it has become more important now to align with the right partners and not selfish, egoistic people whose mission and plans are not clear for all to see.

SP VOWS TO RESIST ‘DESPERATE’ ATTACKS

SP VOWS TO RESIST ‘DESPERATE’ ATTACKS

…we know they are being executed on behalf of the UPND by individuals who belong to the opposition, says Muba’sa

Lusaka… Saturday May 24, 2025 – The Socialist Party (SP) has strongly condemned a series of “well-orchestrated attacks” aimed at discrediting and disrupting the growing unity among opposition political forces in Zambia.

In a statement by the party’s National Youth Secretary, Mr. Stanley Muba’sa, the attacks were attributed to the ruling UPND, although he declared they were being executed on behalf of the UPND by individuals who belong to the opposition.

Mr. Muba’sa said the party viewed these actions as desperate and demeaning attempts to sow division and confusion among opposition ranks.

He emphasized that the Zambian people were capable of distinguishing between “hired assassins” and genuine opposition leaders.

According to him, the Socialist Party remained committed and disciplined in its efforts to work with other political actors toward removing the UPND from power in the upcoming general elections.

Mr. Muba’sa stated that the party’s National Congress had already responded to public calls for opposition unity as early as September last year.

The Congress had directed the party leadership to explore collaborative strategies with political parties, independent leaders, religious bodies, traditional authorities, and civil society in an effort to build “a just, fair, and humane Zambia.”

He said the Socialist Party was currently cooperating with others to establish a strong united opposition front and a broader progressive movement.

Mr. Muba’sa also stated that citizens were disillusioned by the UPND government, which he condemned for poor economic management and bad governance.

Specific issues raised included the shrinking of democratic space, politicization of the judiciary, misuse of the Public Order Act, and intimidation of the Catholic Church.

He further argued that the hardships Zambians faced—such as a rising cost of living and poverty—were a direct result of the current administration’s failed policies.

The Socialist Party, he said, sought to address these issues through collective action and respect among opposition leaders, guided by the party’s values of equity, honesty, humility, and solidarity.

In addressing recent criticisms and attacks, Mr. Muba’sa questioned the motive behind the “malice and slander,” suggesting that the ruling party feared the potential of a united opposition.

He warned that efforts to derail the emerging coalition would not succeed, asserting that the Socialist Party remained resolute and ready for any counter-efforts.

“Our mission is noble, our resolve is very strong,” Mr. Muba’sa stated. “We are revolutionaries, and we know that every revolutionary initiative will face a counter-revolutionary response. We are ready.”

The Socialist Party reiterated its commitment to continue working with others in the opposition and civil society to bring about change and restore hope to the people of Zambia.

Harry Kalaba will not work with Socialist Party  that support Homosexuality- Max Chongu

By Max Chongu

WE SHALL DEFEND PRESIDENT HARRY KALABA FROM VERBAL OR PHYSICAL ATTACKS ORCHESTRATED BY POLITICAL OPPONENTS

We have noted with great concern a growing trend of unwarranted attacks towards President Harry Kalaba , engineered by self appointed political prefects under the umbrella of opposition unity.

We want to put it on record that we shall decisively deal with any organisation, Party or individual trying to attack the CF and President Harry Kalaba with all our might.

CF has always shown willingness to work with like minded mass movements, organisations, the Church, traditional leaders, NGO’s, human right activists, Civil societies, other opposition Political parties to mention but a few in pushing the National agenda anchored on unity of purpose among the opposition.

However our willingness to work with others does not mean that we can be bulldozed into an alliance or pact by any political Party particularly those with questionable history.

We challenge the self proclaimed political prefect of alliances to first declare it’s official party position on HOMOSEXUALITY before we can engage into talks of working together.

Let it be on record that CF will not work with any organisation or political Party that supports homosexuality under the umbrella of opposition unity for we are a Christian Party that highly upholds Christian values.

M’MEMBE URGES ZAMBIANS TO UNITE FOR JUSTICE IN SABBATH MESSAGE

Caracas… Saturday May 24, 2025 – In a heartfelt Sabbath message, Dr. Fred M’membe, President of the Socialist Party, has urged Zambians to embrace peace, resilience, and unity in the face of ongoing challenges, while reaffirming his commitment to a better future for the nation.

Dr. M’membe extended warm greetings of peace, strength, and unwavering hope as the country welcomed the Sabbath.

He emphasized that the day should serve as a time of rest and reflection, offering citizens an opportunity to renew their spirits despite the hardships they may face.

He encouraged citizens to reconnect with core values such as compassion, justice, and solidarity, which he described as the foundation of the opposition united front.

According to him, true change requires sacrifice, patience, and resilience, but he expressed confidence that with perseverance, the people would ultimately triumph.

“No oppressive force can silence a people who are united in their pursuit of dignity and justice,” Dr. M’membe stated.

The opposition united front, he noted, should not be seen merely as an unstoppable political force but as a genuine people’s movement rooted in the struggles and dreams of workers, students, marketeers, and the often-overlooked voices across the country.

He declared that when people unite, they become an unstoppable force for change.

Meanwhile, Dr. M’membe called on Zambians to find solace and strength in each other and affirmed his belief that “a better Zambia is not just possible — it is coming.”

He concluded the message by wishing all citizens a happy and reflective Sabbath.

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

The Leadership Movement has announced that it will not participate in the opposition alliance formed to challenge the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) in the upcoming Lumezi by-election.

Party leader Dr. Richard Silumbe stated that his party will field its own candidate in the election scheduled for June 26, 2025.

Dr. Silumbe dismissed the opposition coalition, accusing its members of lacking a clear and genuine plan to improve the lives of Zambians.

He further emphasized that the Leadership Movement would only consider aligning with other opposition parties that demonstrate a sincere commitment to the welfare of the Zambian people.

Chakwera rejects IMF conditions on increasing utilities tarrifs, reducing subsidies

President Lazarus Chakwera said Malawi’s decision to reject the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Extended Credit Facility (ECF) aimed at shifting towards economic self-reliance,

Chakwera was speaking on Thursday, May 22, 2025 during the opening of the 35th Malawi International Trade Fair in Blantyre.

The President emphasized that the stringent conditions attached to the IMF loan would have imposed undue hardship on Malawians, particularly the business community.

“We cannot accept financial assistance that comes with conditions detrimental to our citizens and enterprises,” Chakwera stated, highlighting the government’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for local businesses.

He underscored the importance of supporting entrepreneurs and small enterprises as the backbone of the nation’s economy.

The President’s remarks come in the wake of the IMF’s termination of Malawi’s $175 million loan program after only $35 million was disbursed over 18 months, citing the country’s failure to meet the program’s requirements.

Chakwera criticized the IMF’s conditions, which included reducing subsidies and increasing utility costs, arguing that such measures would stifle local businesses and burden ordinary Malawians.

At the trade fair in Blantyre on Thursday, President Chakwera also announced initiatives aimed at bolstering the local economy, including plans to provide over 1 trillion Malawian Kwacha in financial support to youth and women entrepreneurs over the next five years.

He highlighted the government’s efforts to streamline business processes, such as digitizing export permits and establishing one-stop border posts to facilitate trade.

Furthermore, the President addressed the upcoming September elections, urging political parties to maintain peace and avoid violence.

“Violence will not secure victory; the winner is already us,” he said, emphasizing the need for a stable environment to ensure economic growth and investor confidence.

Chakwera’s stance marks a significant pivot in Malawi’s economic policy, prioritizing domestic empowerment over external financial dependencies.

By rejecting the IMF’s conditions and focusing on local enterprise development, the President aims to chart a new course towards sustainable economic growth and self-sufficiency.

ZAMBIANS SHOULD WATCH OUT FOR SOME OPPOSITION LEADERS WHO WANT PRESIDENCY FOR REVENGE AND VENGEANCE – MAX  CHONGU

ZAMBIANS SHOULD WATCH OUT FOR SOME OPPOSITION LEADERS WHO WANT PRESIDENCY FOR REVENGE AND VENGEANCE
=====================================

Change of Government is meant to usher in competent leadership that will focus on improving the welfare of our Nation and it’s citizenry.

I am not ashamed to say that some leaders in opposition seem to want PRESIDENCY for revenge or escalate vengeance that will not only retard development but enhance divisions in our country something that is definitely against my beliefs and principles.

Personally i have gone through mistreatment, trials and tribulations under the UPND GOVERNMENT but that was designed by God not to break me or make me a person to harbour hatred, revenge and vengeance but to make me grow more wiser so that should God bring me near the corridors of power i should not entertain nor allow innocent people to go through the pain, torment and torture i have passed through simply because of being in opposition.

As a people let’s have honest conversations and do a clinical introspection with regards to some opposition political leaders who exhibit traits of dictatorial tendencies that could be worse than what they are currently condemning under the UPND administration.

I urge those in alliance to seek for genuine unity of purpose that is meant to champion the national agenda in line with what majority citizens wants and not unity of convenience driven by pretence meant to champion personal interests at the expense of majority citizens interests.

You can’t have senior party officials rejoicing about the former head of state sickness as though you want him dead so that you propel your political aspirations to greater heights yet pretending to be championing a national agenda.

Opposition leaders must open eyes of wisdom, how can the Jehovah’s witnesses and Roman Catholic Church pretend to agree on principle that they will be worshiping together ?

Ideologies and beliefs are certainly different lest it’s a marriage of convenience in which one has seen an opportunity.

Wisdom demands for opposition political leaders to roll back the clock of time and see the relationship they had with some of these leaders ( When in Government ) then reflect on what they did to them with regards to businesses which will give them a clear picture of what to expect in future should they be the ones behind the steering wheel of our country as President.

We all want unity of purpose among opposition political party leaders but let it be genuine.

I remain,

Maxwell Chongu

CHOMA, Zambia

Speaking at the Development Forum in Choma, the President said the UPND-Led Government remains guided by the social contract it signed with the people of Zambia centered on equity, opportunity and national healing. “We are servants. Everyone in public office, be it Permanent Secretary, District Commissioner, Mayor or MP is there because the people placed them there,” he declared.

President Hichilema thanked the people of Choma and Southern Province at large for remaining loyal stewards of the UPND’s mission, even during difficult times. He said their unwavering support has kept the reform agenda alive, citing landmark progress made across education, health, infrastructure, governance and economic empowerment.

Among the standout achievements mentioned:

Free education for all public learners, with 2 million children back in school

Community driven development through increased and equitable CDF allocations

Job creation in the defense forces, teaching, health and civil service sectors

Restoration of critical industries, including the reopening of Mulungushi Textiles

Massive infrastructure works, including roads, bridges and power solutions

Support to agriculture, with inputs, equipment and farmer financing

Social protection boosts, including meal allowances, CEEC grants and welfare funds

Institutional integrity, shown in asset recovery and the fight against corruption

National cohesion, with an end to political violence and cadreism

The President noted that while many promises have been fulfilled, several areas still require attention particularly in energy and cost of living. “We are working on electricity. We won’t rest until every household has reliable power,” he assured.

He urged citizens to remain engaged, register for NRCs and prepare to participate meaningfully in future elections. “You voted for change and now you are seeing the dividends. Let’s protect that momentum,” he said.

The Choma Development Forum served not only as a platform to reflect on progress but also as a call to deepen civic responsibility and national unity, reinforcing the spirit that ushered in the 2021 political transition.

CEC REACHES $1 BILLION MARKET CAPITALIZATION, MAKING IT THE MOST VALUABLE BRAND IN ZAMBIA

CEC REACHES $1 BILLION MARKET CAPITALIZATION, MAKING IT THE MOST VALUABLE BRAND IN ZAMBIA

The Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc (CEC) has become the first Zambian company to hit $1 billion in market capitalization.

This record valuation reflects an unprecedentedly strong rally on the Lusaka Securities Exchange (LuSE) for the main power supplier to the mines in Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

According to the LuSE trading results of 23 May 2025, CEC’s market capitalization stands at K27.1 billion—equivalent to about US $1.24 billion at the current exchange rate—making it the most valuable brand among the 20 publicly listed companies on the Lusaka bourse.

The record performance of CEC’s shares comes at a very difficult time, as the Southern African region is reeling from the worst drought in decades, which has deprived Zambia of about 70% of its power generation. However, analysts say this performance reflects investors’ endorsement of the values and strategy of CEC’s top management team.

At a time when most power developers are struggling to reach financial close on key renewable projects, CEC became a trailblazer by issuing its US $200 million bond, which will enable its wholly owned subsidiary, CEC Renewables Limited, to become the biggest solar generation company in Zambia, with a capacity of 236MW by the end of this year.

CEC is also in the process of building a second transmission line to bolster the capacity of the Zambia-DRC power transmission network to 550MW from the current 250MW. This will strengthen the SAPP central power corridor and allow CEC to take advantage of improving power generation in the lower parts of Southern Africa.

He has been identified as 32-year-old Teddy Lubona, stationed at Boombwe Railway Station, with the incident occurring on 22nd May, 2025, between 03:00 and 03:30 hours.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, has stated that on the fateful day, Lubona was on duty at Boombwe Railway Station when the Mulobezi passenger train arrived at approximately 03:00 hours, and he boarded to meet his supervisor.

Daka has reported that as the train began to move at around 03:30 hours, Lubona attempted to jump off but missed his step, falling beneath the locomotive, which crushed both of his legs.

He has explained that traders at Boombwe Railway Station discovered him injured beside the railway line around 04:00 hours and alerted Zambia Railways officers in Livingstone, who quickly responded to the scene.

Lubona was transported to Livingstone University Teaching Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery resulting in the amputation of both legs.

Despite the severity of his injuries, Daka has indicated that Lubona remains stable and is out of danger.

KOMBONI RADIO BACK ON AIR AFTER BAILIFFS MISTAKENLY SEIZE STATION EQUIPMENT

KOMBONI RADIO BACK ON AIR AFTER BAILIFFS MISTAKENLY SEIZE STATION EQUIPMENT

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

Komboni Radio has resumed broadcasting after bailiffs, acting on instructions from the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC), mistakenly seized the station’s equipment in an operation intended for a private property in PHI.

Acting Station Manager Oswald Tembo confirmed to Sun FM TV News that transmission had resumed following the return of the confiscated broadcasting equipment, newsroom computers, and furniture.

The bailiffs had earlier stormed the station, believing it to be connected to an alleged outstanding debt owed to the CEEC.

However, it later emerged that the enforcement action was meant for a different property located in PHI, not the radio station itself.

Komboni Radio CEO Lesa Kasoma had publicly appealed to President Hakainde Hichilema for Intervention through viral social media videos, describing the incident as an unfair and damaging mistake.

She urged government intervention to prevent such wrongful actions from recurring.

You’re only thinking we’re going to k!ll you cos you k!lled our people” ~ Julius Malema f!res Donald Trump again

South African activist, Julius Malema slams Donald Trump following a meeting between the Us leader and his South African counterpart.

South African president, Cyril Ramaphosa was in the United States earlier to have some bilateral talks with Donald Trump.

Things got a bit different during the meeting when the US president used old clips of Julius Malema to push the “white genocide” narrative in South Africa.

Trump played Malema’s speeches to President Ramaphosa in D.C., claiming white South Africans are under attack

Malema fired back, calling them “old men gossiping in Washington about him” and vowed the EFF won’t back down on land expropriation.3

“A group of older men meet in Washington to gossip about me. No significant amount of intelligence evidence has been produced about white genocide. We will not agree to compromise our political principles on land expropriation without compensation for political expediency” he said

Julius Malema stressed that the Americans are only thinking they (South Africans) have any thoughts of k!lling them simply because of the things they have done to Africans.

“You think we’re going to k!ll you because you k!lled our people. The K! lling mentality is in you head, not ours”

Trump threatens Apple to either manufacture iPhones in the US or face a 25% tariff

President Donald Trump has issued a bold ultimatum to tech giant Apple, demanding that iPhones sold in the United States be manufactured domestically or face a 25% tariff.

In a Truth Social post today, Trump emphasized that Apple’s reliance on production in countries like China and India must shift to the U.S.

The threat comes as Apple’s stock fell over 3% following the announcement, reflecting investor concerns about the potential impact on the company’s supply chain and pricing.

Apple currently assembles 90% of its iPhones in China, with key components sourced from Taiwan, South Korea, and other Asian nations.

Apple has been diversifying its production, with CEO Tim Cook recently stating that most U.S.-bound iPhones will soon be assembled in India. However, this move falls short of Trump’s demand for full U.S. manufacturing.

Trump’s tariff threat may serve as a negotiation tactic, as Apple successfully secured exemptions during his first term.

The company has also pledged $500 billion in U.S. investments, including a new Texas server facility, potentially to ease tensions.

50 Cent Comments On Chris Brown Paying $7 Million Bail In UK

Manchester, UK – 50 Cent has reacted to Chris Brown finally getting released from jail in the UK after posting almost $7 million in bail.
50, who has been a steadfast supporter of his “I’m The Man” collaborator through his many controversies, celebrated the fact that Brown was now free.

Fif wrote: “CB out he made bond, I’m only saying shit about him because I think he is the best over all artist out. I watched his whole run !”

Brown was arrested last week in Manchester and charged with grievous bodily harm with intent related to an incident in a London nightclub in 2023.

He was originally denied bail and remanded in custody until June 13, just two days before the start of his Breezy Bowl tour in the same city he was arrested in.

Brown offered a brief comment on Instagram after he was released on bail, writing: “FROM THE CAGE TO THE STAGE!!!”

Brown has to abide by a number of strict conditions as per his release.

As well as the nearly $7 million sum, he must live at an address in the UK up until his trial and surrender his passport to the authorities.

However, he will be allowed to travel internationally for the purpose of his tour.

It is alleged that Brown assaulted music producer Abe Diaw at Tape nightclub in London in 2023.

That same year, Diaw filed a lawsuit against the controversial R&B singer, alleging Brown had inflicted severe and lasting injuries” on him after “beating him over the head” with a bottle of tequila.

Brown was also accused of “ruthlessly” stomping on Diaw’s head while he was on the ground which resulted in him being knocked unconscious.

The incident was caught by CCTV which is now in the hands of prosecutors who describe the situation as “extremely serious”.

Diaw further accused Brown of “spreading false rumors” about him in the aftermath of the alleged incident.

It is not known if the lawsuit was settled between the two parties.

It was reported at the time that police attempted to speak to Brown about the incident but he left the country before he could be questioned.

For Immediate Release

“Empty Rhetoric or Genuine Dialogue? HH’s Call to Consult ECL is Insincere and Politically Motivated”

Lusaka – 23rd  May, 2026

The Patriotic Front has taken note of recent remarks by President Hakainde Hichilema’s spokesperson, Clayson Hamasaka, suggesting the Head of State is willing to consult former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

While this statement may sound conciliatory on the surface, it rings hollow when placed against the backdrop of President Hichilema’s consistent public disdain and institutional harassment of his predecessor.

It is public knowledge that President Hichilema has repeatedly used every opportunity, from national platforms to international engagements, to demean and vilify President Lungu. From the Heroes Stadium inauguration, where his supporters booed the former President with impunity, to casual remarks insinuating that President Lungu will never return to office — such as “alebwelelapo pamupando? Naliika glue pa seat!” — these are not words of a leader seeking honest reconciliation.

The record is clear. When President Hichilema assumed power, he missed a golden opportunity to unite the nation by extending a genuine hand of friendship and respect to his predecessor. Instead, his administration stripped President Lungu of his entitlements, barred him from exercising freely in public, and subjected his family to repeated court appearances under heavy police presence.

This pattern of behavior undermines the very foundation of the proposed dialogue. How can the Head of State claim to protect the former President while simultaneously creating a hostile environment that treats him as an enemy of the state? How can there be trust when the same government has allowed its officials and cadres to hurl daily insults and deny President Lungu the dignity of being referred to as “Father of the Nation”?

Hon. Brian Mundubile’s call for meaningful engagement between President Hichilema and his predecessor was intelligent and timely. However, what we have witnessed from State House is nothing more than political theatre, aimed at controlling public perception rather than fostering genuine reconciliation.

In summary, It is too late for President Hakainde Hichilema to pretend he seeks dialogue when his actions have consistently betrayed a lack of goodwill. True unity is built on sincerity, not soundbites.

The Patriotic Front remains committed to the peace and progress of Zambia, but it will not be deceived by empty rhetoric. If this government truly desires national healing, it must begin by restoring the dignity and rights of President Edgar Chagwa Lungu and treating him with the respect due to the only surviving former Head of State — the true Father of the Nation.

UNZA, NIPA, AND HONE STUDENTS ENDORSE AND PROMISE TO MOBILIZE FOR PRESIDENT HH

UNZA, NIPA, AND HONE STUDENTS ENDORSE AND PROMISE TO MOBILIZE FOR PRESIDENT HH

May 23, 2025

The United Party for National Development (UPND) Secretary General, Batuke Imenda, has described the Constitution amendment review as progressive, stating that President Hakainde Hichilema wants a quarter of parliamentary seats reserved for youths and women, as students from UNZA, NIPA, and Evelyn Hone College endorse and pledge to mobilize for the President.

Speaking during the Friends of Bally interactive forum at NIPA, Mr. Imenda urged youths across the country to defend their right to be included in governance, as their interests cannot be discussed in their absence.

He explained that the UPND government is implementing the free education policy to empower vulnerable rural youths who cannot afford school fees by equipping them with livelihood skills to contribute to the economy.

Mr. Imenda said some of the best-performing students come from humble backgrounds, which is why President Hichilema introduced free education, bursaries, allowances, and the school feeding program to ensure equal access to education.

He emphasized that President Hichilema envisions restoring Zambia’s greatness, similar to the era of President Kenneth Kaunda, when finding employment was as easy as putting food on the table.

The Secretary General stressed that the future of Zambians is secure with President Hichilema’s re-election in 2026, as he is a visionary leader who cares deeply for the youth, women, the differently abled, and the vulnerable, and that is why the Constitution is being amended to reflect their concerns.

Dorothy Matyola, the NIPA Chapter representative of Friends of Bally, commended President Hichilema’s methodical approach that has led to lower prices of mealie meal and fuel despite the recent drought, and pledged that NIPA students will continue to mobilize for him.

Comfort Chisenga from the Evelyn Hone Chapter of Friends of Bally stated that the Cyber Security Act of 2025 is a progressive law meant to bring order to cyberspace, and only those who commit crimes have reason to panic.

Response to Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma’s Commentary

By Cosmas Chileshe

As a member of the UPND Media Team, I am committed to addressing public discourse with clarity and respect. Commentaries by Ms. Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma have raised concerns that warrant a factual and measured response. Ours is to correct the record and speak for the millions who refuse to be misled by relentless cynicism disguised as patriotism.

You question my motives. Let me make mine clear: I stand not for a paycheck, but for progress. I speak not to spin, but to push back against coordinated misinformation that seeks to erase the very real strides this government is making in rebuilding a broken nation.

Let’s be clear—your attacks are not against me. They are against a democratically elected government that inherited a hollowed-out economy, captured institutions, and a culture of impunity. But somehow, you expect miracles in three years.

On the economy—you lament rising costs. So do we. That’s why we’ve negotiated historic debt restructuring deals, stabilized the kwacha after global shocks, and made strategic investments in agriculture and energy to build resilience. Yes, people are struggling. But the difference is this government is actually doing something about it, not looting in the dark while citizens suffered in silence.

On the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act, you claim it’s a muzzle. Yet here you are, free to write, publish, and criticize. What you call repression is actually restraint. No one has knocked on your door. But if you advocate for an unregulated digital wild west, say it plainly.

Corruption? We are not defending it—we are cleaning it up. What your article omits is that under the UPND, senior officials have been investigated and removed, not shielded. No administration in our recent history has shown such willingness to confront corruption from within. The medical aid scandal you referenced? Investigations are active. The theft did not begin in 2021. We are the ones finally exposing it.

On justice, the UPND administration respects the independence of the judiciary and is committed to upholding justice. Allegations of corruption are taken seriously, with mechanisms in place to investigate and address misconduct. The government encourages transparency and accountability across all sectors.

If there was wrongdoing, let the courts decide—not columnists playing judge, jury, and editor-in-chief. Unlike the past regime, we do not interfere with judicial independence, even when it is inconvenient.

As for violence and cadreism, we condemn it in all forms—regardless of who the victim is. But it’s disingenuous to suddenly invoke peace when the previous administration weaponized state power and perfected political violence for a decade. We are dismantling that legacy, not repeating it.

Ms. Ngoma, you speak as though the UPND has failed because Zambia hasn’t transformed overnight. That’s not failure. That’s the reality of reform. Transformation is not a headline—it is hard, slow, uncomfortable work. This government is doing it, and we make no apology for that.

You write with conviction, but conviction does not equal truth. You call it speaking truth to power. I call it echoing a tired narrative designed to undermine reform before it can take root.

This government is not collapsing. It is confronting. It is correcting. And it is committed—to the Constitution, to transparency, and to the people of Zambia.

You say Zambia does not belong to the UPND. On that, we agree. It belongs to all of us. And this administration was elected by the Zambian people to serve—not silence them.

You may continue your commentary. That is your right. But don’t mistake our refusal to shout back as weakness. We choose action over outrage, reform over rhetoric, and truth over theatrics.

OPEN LETTER TO PF SECRETARY GENERAL
FROM A PF SUPPORTER IN CHILILABOMBWE

OPEN LETTER TO PF SECRETARY GENERAL
FROM A PF SUPPORTER IN CHILILABOMBWE

Dear Sir/Madam,

I write as a loyal PF member from Chililabombwe. We are thankful for the work Hon. Musukwa did for our area. But to win again in 2026, PF must make big changes. Here are our concerns:

1. Remove Certain People
– Hon. Musukwa lost because of some individuals close to him. These people acted badly and disrespected voters.
– Chililabombwe residents KNOW these people and DO NOT want them near PF leadership. They caused Hon. Musukwa and President Lungu to lose.

2. Let Members Choose Leaders (Bottom to Top!)
– The Provincial Executive and Hon. Musukwa must STOP choosing leaders for us.
– Let ordinary members elect leaders from branches → wards→ constituency → district. No more “top to bottom”!

3. Candidates Must Be Chosen Fairly
– Last time, PF picked candidates secretly. They chose friends, not good leaders.
– In 2026, let members vote openly for candidates. No secrets!

What PF Must Do NOW:
– Remove all bad elements who caused losses in 2021.
– Listen to members: Let us choose leaders at ALL levels.
– Respect the people: Chililabombwe knows who should GO and who should STAY.

Chililabombwe still loves PF, but we will not vote for PF if these same people return. Change the leadership, and we will WIN in 2026!

Thank you for listening.

Yours sincerely,
PF Supporter, Chililabombwe

Zambia Launches $15.37 Million Project to Tackle Post-Harvest Losses

Zambia Launches $15.37 Million Project to Tackle Post-Harvest Losses

In a landmark step to combat post-harvest losses, the Zambian government has launched the Scaling Solutions for Food Loss in Africa project, popularly known as the REGAIN Project. With a financial injection of $15.37 million from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), the initiative aims to address the persistent challenge of food losses, particularly among smallholder farmers.

Officiating the inception meeting at the Intercontinental Hotel in Lusaka on May 23, 2025, Ministry of Agriculture Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, John Mulongoti, acknowledged the alarming post-harvest losses the country has endured over the years.

He noted that Zambia continues to lose between 30 to 40 percent of its maize and soya bean harvests every season due to inadequate storage, poor handling practices, and limited access to affordable preservation technologies.

Mulongoti emphasized that the REGAIN Project comes at a critical time, as the country emerges from a severe drought that impacted food production and exposed vulnerabilities in Zambia’s agricultural value chains. He highlighted the importance of aligning the project with the country’s broader development strategies, including the Comprehensive Agriculture Transformation Support Programme and Zambia’s climate adaptation priorities.

“Reducing post-harvest losses is a vital step toward enhancing food security, increasing farmer incomes, and supporting our national development agenda,” said Mulongoti. “This initiative will empower farmers with access to climate-smart post-harvest technologies and foster public-private partnerships that drive innovation.”

Representing AGRA, Country Manager Maziko Phiri described the project as a bold commitment to one of Africa’s most under-addressed agricultural challenges. He reiterated AGRA’s mission to not only boost agricultural productivity but also to ensure that what is produced is protected, preserved, and translated into economic value for farming households.

Phiri revealed that the REGAIN Project will focus on Zambia’s critical maize and soya bean value chains, two strategic commodities with the potential to enhance national food security and drive economic growth. The project will support smallholder farmers with improved drying, handling, and storage solutions while promoting local innovation and private sector investment in post-harvest management.

He further noted that the project is designed to strengthen market systems to ensure that reduced food losses translate into increased incomes for farmers. Additionally, it aims to create an enabling environment for the use of climate-resilient technologies, with a particular focus on inclusivity by actively involving women and youth.

The Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, represented by Permanent Secretary Dr. Douty Chibamba, also pledged support, recognizing the project’s contribution to Zambia’s climate mitigation and adaptation efforts. Dr. Chibamba affirmed that aligning agricultural initiatives with the country’s climate policies will accelerate the transition to a resilient and sustainable food system.

AGRA expressed gratitude to the Zambian government for its leadership and commitment to tackling post-harvest losses. “This collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, and AGRA demonstrates a unified front in addressing systemic food system challenges,” said Phiri.

The project is expected to directly contribute to Zambia’s national production targets, including ambitions to produce 10 million metric tonnes of maize and 1 million metric tonnes of soya bean by 2027.

With these targets in sight, reducing food losses will be essential to achieving the intended economic and social benefits.

FREEDOM DAY COMES EARLY ASs FAZ UNBLOCKS FANS ON FACEBOOK

FREEDOM DAY COMES EARLY ASs FAZ UNBLOCKS FANS ON FACEBOOK

By Uncle Philip Banda

A new dawn appears to be breaking in Zambian football, as several fans and stakeholders have expressed joy after being unblocked from the official Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Facebook page. The development follows the ushering in of a new FAZ executive led by President Keith Mweemba.

Many fans who had been blocked for years are now celebrating what they see as a symbolic step toward openness and inclusion. One such fan, Maureen Kawengele, commented,
“I was blocked on the FAZ page in 2016. Today I can proudly say I’m able to access it again. Change is good. Thank you!”

Football blogger Abel Nkhowani wrote in bold relief, “I AM NOW ABLE TO ACCESS THE FAZ FACEBOOK PAGE.”

Renowned journalist and media freedom advocate Augustine Mukoka  based in the United States, added his voice to the growing excitement, posting:
“Happy early Freedom Day to those that have been unblocked on the FAZ page. May the era of blocking football fans end forever. Fans are the lifeblood of the game and must be heard even when they speak uncomfortably.”

Another delighted fan echoed similar sentiments, writing, “Finally, I’ve been unblocked after five years!”

Indeed, for many football fanatics, this move marks more than just digital access—it signals a fresh start for fan engagement under the new FAZ regime.

President Keith Mweemba has repeatedly emphasized unity and transparency as core pillars of his leadership. The unblocking of fans is already being hailed as a practical demonstration of that commitment.

As the football fraternity embraces this new era, there is growing hope that no fan will ever again be silenced or sidelined from contributing to the beautiful game.
