YOUTH MINISTER URGES RESPONSIBLE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA

YOUTH MINISTER URGES RESPONSIBLE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA

MINISTER of Youth, Sport and Arts Elvis Nkandu has reiterated that the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act was enacted in good faith to promote responsible use of digital platforms and protect citizens from abuse.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, Mr Nkandu emphasized that while the law is often associated with controlling social media, its intent is to safeguard the public and promote productive use of digital tools, especially among the youth.

“Social media can be used to develop talent, educate others, and even generate income. It’s a tool that, when used properly, can transform lives, Mr Nkandu said.

He, however, warned against the misuse of social media to insult or defame others, urging young people to engage online with knowledge, integrity, and respect.

“Cyberspace was created to be used in good faith. I appeal to the youth to avoid using these platforms to malign innocent people and instead focus on building themselves and their communities,” he added.

ZANIS reports that the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act, introduced in April this year, empowers authorities to intercept and monitor electronic communications in a bid to curb online fraud, child pornography, and the spread of disinformation.

Violations under the Act carry penalties ranging from five to 15 years in prison, depending on the offence.

PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA HOSTS THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF NAMIBIA NETUMBO NANDI-NDAITWAH

He writes ..

We were honoured to host Her Excellency Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia, for warm and fruitful bilateral talks at State House in Lusaka today.

President Ndaitwah is no stranger to Lusaka, having lived here during Namibia’s liberation struggle making her visit both historic and deeply symbolic.

Amid shifting global geopolitics, our continent must urgently scale up intra-African trade and investment. This requires robust investment in jointly owned infrastructure.

Namibia fully aligns with this realization and Zambia’s vision of a land-linked economy, notably through the Walvis Bay–Ndola–Lubumbashi Development Corridor, which is key to enhancing regional trade and access to the Atlantic Ocean.

Namibia remains one of Zambia’s most strategic partners, with both countries bound by deep social, economic, and historical ties.

NOTORIOUS DRUG SUPPLIER BUSTED IN KITWE — 500g OF COCAINE SEIZED
…..“Queenpin” caught with stash in Toyota Mark X

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested Khadija Mingel, a 36-year-old businesswoman of Kitwe, after she was found in possession of 25 pellets of cocaine weighing 500 grams.

According to DEC Public Relations Officer Allan Tamba, Khadija had long been on the Commission’s radar and was listed on the agency’s Watch List for her suspected role as a major supplier of narcotics in the North-Western and Copperbelt Provinces.

“She has been a person of interest for a while, and today, the Commission moved in to neutralize her alleged activities,” Mr. Tamba said in a statement.

The illicit substances were discovered in a Toyota Mark X vehicle the suspect was driving at the time of her arrest. The sleek ride often associated with status and speed has since been seized as part of ongoing investigations.

“This is not just another arrest. It’s part of a broader, coordinated campaign to disrupt and dismantle the criminal networks that are poisoning our communities,” Tamba added. “A sophisticated cocktail of strategies is now in play, and no one involved in the drug chain whether supplier or street-level dealer will be spared.”

The arrest sends a clear warning to others in the underground drug economy: the net is tightening, and the DEC is watching.

Khadija is expected to appear in court soon, where she will answer to charges of drug trafficking. In the meantime, the Commission says investigations are ongoing, with more arrests expected as it moves to trace the origins and distribution web behind the cocaine.

As drug trafficking increasingly threatens the health and safety of Zambian communities, law enforcement authorities are reinforcing their commitment to rooting out every link in the narcotics chain from supplier to street.

When Leadership Meets Legacy — A Lesson from Namibia

When Leadership Meets Legacy — A Lesson from Namibia.

The other day, I came across a powerful image from Namibia a picture featuring the country’s past and present presidents standing side by side. A simple photograph, yet one that carried profound symbolism. Was it coincidence? Was it by design? Whatever the case, one thing is clear: it is a desirable sight.

In that single frame, Namibia captured a sense of continuity, dignity, and maturity in leadership. Without words, it declared: “We may lead at different times, but we serve the same nation.”

This is the kind of image that speaks volumes of peace, of generational wisdom, and of a nation that understands the value of unity beyond tenure. Seeing former and current leaders together reflects not rivalry but shared responsibility. That’s not just good optics ,it’s good statesmanship.

An old African proverb reminds us: “A river that forgets its source will dry up.” A nation that honors its past and integrates it into the present builds a firmer foundation for the future. Namibia’s example is a gentle yet powerful reminder of what leadership, humility, and national purpose can look like when ego steps aside and legacy steps forward.

600 CANCER PATIENTS ON WAITING LIST TO INDIA

600 CANCER PATIENTS ON WAITING LIST TO INDIA

Minister of Health, Elijah Muchima, has disclosed that there are about 600 cancer patients waiting to be evacuated to India for treatment.

The Minister has therefore stressed the importance of Zambia having its own facilities to ease the burden of sending cancer patients to India for treatment, and save more lives locally.

Dr Muchima says the government has since prioritised the construction of three cancer diseases hospitals across the country, of which one in Lusaka is operational.

He adds that equipment for the Ndola Cancer Diseases Hospital has arrived and the Livingstone hospital is under construction.

Speaking when Rotary International President, Mario De Camargo, called on him in Lusaka today, Dr Muchima indicated the need to equip local cancer hospitals especially with radiotherapy in an effort to reduce the cost of treatment abroad and also deal with the ever growing number of patients.

And Rotary International President, Mario De Camargo, indicated that his visit to Zambia is aimed at strengthening ties between local Rotary constituents and government officials for collaboration in government programmes.

Former Zimbabwean commercial farmer, Rory Duncan who was dispossessed of his farm under the land reform programme shares his reflections

Former Zimbabwean commercial farmer, Rory Duncan who was dispossessed of his farm under the land reform programme shares his reflections.

“Some days, my mind wanders back to a farm I managed in the eastern highlands of Zimbabwe in the late 80s. It was something special.

We produced apples, peaches, pears, and kiwi fruit for local and export markets. We grew broccoli and cauliflower for the frozen veg market and did seed potatoes for a major contract. All on a large scale. Im talking about 1000s of tons of produce. We had a herd of Jersey cows for milking and made butter and cream.

We plowed huge hectarage to grow maize, sweet potato, and vegetables for the farm workers. We had a junior school there with a headmaster and 5 classes. We had a clinic with a permanent nursing sister with meds and staff. We had a church with a pastor and a football team competing in provincial leagues.

Every worker, 550 of them, lived in a brick home with electricity, running water, and a wood stove with unlimited firewood. There was a large store that provided everything from blankets to bicycles. There was a section of the farm dedicated to wildlife conservation.

We had a proactive workers committee and had regular updates and meetings and professionally integrated  management systems. We had huge refrigeration facilities and a modern pack shed with a fleet of trucks.

The engineering division had everything it needed, including skilled workers to maintain a large estate. We had a beekeeping division, everything worked, and our people were  cherished. We had adult literacy courses in the evenings at the farm hall and transport to functioning hospitals at any time of day or night.

We had professional security services with a canine unit. A football field with  a coach and smart uniforms and boots provided to the teams. The annual turnover was in the multiple millions, and the wage spend was huge,  as was the tax bill. We spent millions on tractors, implements, fertilizers and fuels. Today, it is a village of subsistence level agriculture, all of it gone with hardly a memory of what was once there. Why?”

A VALID MARRIAGE IS ONLY BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMAN- POPE LEO

Pope Leo has said that a valid marriage, according to the teachings of the Catholic Church, is only between a man and a woman.

He emphasized this today at the headquarters of the Catholic Church in the Vatican during his meeting with ambassadors representing their countries at the Vatican.

In this meeting, the leader of the Catholic Church also stressed that a strong and stable family is the foundation of every nation.

He said that unborn children in their mothers’ wombs, as well as the elderly, deserve respect because they possess dignity that comes from God.

Senzo Meyiwa case investigator escapes attempted kidnapping

Senzo Meyiwa case investigator escapes attempted kidnapping

The National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), General Fannie Masemola, has confirmed that no sensitive documents or exhibits were stolen during an armed robbery and attempted kidnapping involving a former investigator in the Senzo Meyiwa murder case.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Thursday, 15 May 2025, in Lombardy East, Johannesburg. The former investigator, travelling in a state vehicle, was followed by suspects who forced him to stop and attempted to kidnap him. The investigator managed to resist and escape unharmed.

During the robbery, a state-issued firearm, ammunition, police reflector jacket, laptop, USB drives, and photocopies of documentation relating to the Meyiwa case were stolen. However, General Masemola emphasized that the original docket and key exhibits remain secure and that the stolen materials had already been disclosed in court proceedings.

A high-level investigation team, led by Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, has been assembled to pursue the suspects. Crime Intelligence is involved, and the motive behind the attack is under investigation.

Masemola reassured the public and the Meyiwa family that the incident will not impact the ongoing trial. SAPS encourages anyone with relevant information to assist the police.

Steenhuisen says 49 Afrikaners ‘made a mistake’ leaving South Africa for U.S.

Steenhuisen says 49 emigrants ‘made a mistake’ leaving South Africa for U.S.

Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen has strongly condemned the decision by 49 Afrikaner families to seek asylum in the United States, calling it a “mistake” and a “bad choice.”

Speaking at the annual NAMPO agricultural exhibition, Steenhuisen made it clear that his priority lies with farmers committed to building a future in South Africa.

“I’m here to support those who have chosen to stay and invest in the land,” he said. “South African agriculture holds immense potential, and we are actively working to expand opportunities.”

Steenhuisen pointed to ongoing efforts to secure bilateral trade deals, particularly with the United States, to boost export markets for South African produce. He dismissed fears over land reform, stating unequivocally that “there is no land expropriation without compensation taking place in South Africa.

The minister further cast doubt on the motives of the emigrants, suggesting they may not be “real farmers.” “Not a single farmer I spoke to here at NAMPO said they wanted to leave,” he noted, emphasizing confidence in the country’s farming prospects.

Chris Brown denied bail amid assault charges, tour dates in jeopardy

Chris Brown was denied bail and will remain in custody until June 13, 2025, after his arrest in Manchester, England, on charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent connected to an alleged nightclub assault in 2023.

This development clashes with the planned start of his “Breezy Bowl XX” tour, set to kick off on June 8, 2025, in Amsterdam, with UK shows at Manchester’s Co-op Live scheduled for June 15 and 16.

Although no official announcement has been made regarding the tour, cancellation or postponement of the initial dates seems probable.

BA UPND THIS IS NOT POLITICS ,THIS IS NOW EVIL- Hon Binwell Mpundu

Hon Binwell Mpundu writes..

BA UPND THIS IS NOT POLITICS ,THIS IS NOW EVIL.

If indeed it is the law we on the opposition are breaking continue sending us to Jail.I just want to appeal to your concious over these crimes namely tribalism, hate speech, seditious practices and proceeds of crime.

Is it only tribal remarks if made by us on the opposition?

Consider the remarks of Hon Siakalima who alleged that the people of Luapula suffers from mental poverty is that not a tribal remark?why is he still free.
Compare this with the remarks of Hon Munir who suggested that the people of Lumezi are more intelligent than the people of bungwe and munir is appearing before the courts of laws .IS THIS REALLY ABOUT THE LAW OR IT IS SOMETHING ELSE.

Is it only hate speech when one person from the opposition insults? what about the young people of UPND who insulted president Lungu threatening to circumcise him that is not hate speech?
What about the UPND who called the bishop of Lusaka Lucifer,is that not hate speech.I ASK AGAIN ,IS IT THE LAW OR IT IS SOMETHING ELSE.

Is it only defamation when issued by us from the opposition, what about all the defamatory statements that are published on Koswe and watchdog is that not defamatory .What about Larry mweetwa who defamed me by editing a video to pit me against the people of northwestern is that not defamation?? SO I ASK AGAIN IS IT THE LAW WE ARE DEALING WITH OR IT IS SOMETHING ELSE?

Is it only seditious practices when uttered by us from the opposition what about all the sensetional statements that have been made by upnd especially when you were in opposition are you more human than us on the opposition.

How many of you ba UPND have properties that if you were treated the way u are teeating others would not have gone to jail but when did anyone come to antagonize you on the basis of mere suspicions of proceeds of crime let alone send you to prison over mere suspicions.

I want to repeat that if it is the law we are breaking please send us all to Jail and congratulations for the record u have set so far.We should not forget the seed we are planting. We should not forget that you have children who will have to fit into society and will have to mix with our children and imagine the pain they will bear to explain the atrocities their parents committed against their friend’s parents and remember that by then we may all not be there to correct things.

We have done politics for many years in Zambia ,this is not politics ,We have had the fredoms to speak even you ba UPND have enjoyed the same freedoms before ,the very freedoms you have taken away from us that whatever we say will either amount to tribalism, hate speech or seditious practices. You will one day need the same freedoms you are taking away from us and Karma will remind you of what you doing today.

Politics cannot be this evil, politics cannot cause so much pain politics cannot bring so much divisions and tensions .Thsi is not politics you are playing, this is evil guys and you need to revisit your approach.
The people you sending to Jail have families, they have children, spouces and relatives, the people who are running away from a justice system that is openly seen as being weaponised againts us on the opposition have families they need to take care of but you are destroying their lives just like that in the name of politics.

You claim you were treated badly, how many of you were jailed for such petty cases as the ones you are jailing us for .THINK ABOUT THIS

UPND IS AFTER OPPOSITION PARLIAMENTARY SEATS- Dr Fred M’membe

UPND IS AFTER OPPOSITION PARLIAMENTARY SEATS

….that’s why they are not even allowing court judgments to be appealed in the High Court before calling for a by-election, says Dr M’membe

Lusaka…. Friday May 16, 2025 — Socialist Party (SP) President Dr Fred M’membe says the UPND is just after parliamentary seats following the incarceration of Mfuwe Member of Parliament Hon Maureen Mabonga.

Dr. M’membe says this is the reason why they are not even allowing subordinate court judgments to be appealed in the High Court before declaring a by-election.

He told journalists in Lusaka today at the Magistrates Court that it is not difficult to predict what will happen next in the country.

The SP leader said this is not the right way to handling things.

“Throughout history, those who are administering criminal justice system poses power with high potential for abuse. They can exempt their own members and supporters from criminal prosecution and subject their opponents for the same offenses and acts to criminal prosecution. It is no longer difficult to predict what will happen in this country anymore. You know exactly what happens, it’s very rare that you get it wrong. What has happened today fits in that particular thing. It’s very clear of what is being sought, it’s a parliamentary seat,” he said.

“We have another by-election, they are not even allowing subordinate court judgments to be appealed in the High Court before by-elections are held. A poor or erroneous judgment from a subordinate court does trigger a by-election. I don’t think this is the way to go. We want to see some changes… If we can’t get them now, we have to get them next year in August.”

Dr. M’membe further said there is a lot to say by citizens but that they decided to keep quiet.

“There is a lot to say that can’t be said by many of our citizens… We hope our people are seeing what is happening and will know how to give themselves justice where it is denied,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dr M’membe castigated the authorities for not allowing the SP youths to conduct a peaceful protest in Lusaka saying it is their democratic right to protest or demonstrate.

Speaking at the same event, United Liberal Party President Sakwiba Sikota, who is also UKA Chairperson, condemned the behavior of the police officers who interrupted the press briefing just to confiscate posters displayed by opposition sympathisers and the civil society at the court grounds.

He said the messages on the posters were harmless and wondered why a battalion of police officers would be sent to confiscate the posters.

The Lusaka Magistrates Court has convicted the Mfuwe lawmaker on a charge of seditious practices.

Former President Edgar Lungu would have been in jail by now if UPND hated him, but we don’t – Simuuwe

Lungu would have been in jail by now if UPND hated him, but we don’t – Simuuwe

UPND media director Mark Simuuwe says the ruling party does not in any way hate former President Edgar Lungu.

Simuuwe said if the UPND harboured any hatred toward Lungu, the party would have facilitated for his arrest the moment President Hakainde Hichilema assumed office.

“Our priority has always been and remains, the fight against corruption, irrespective of time, status, or political affiliation,” said Simuuwe.

The media director was responding to remarks made by Tonse Alliance member, Mumbi Phiri during her appearance on Hot FM yesterday.

Phiri suggested that both Hichilema and Simuuwe harbored personal hatred toward former President Edgar Lungu.

But Simuuwe dismissed the allegations and expressed concern over the tone and language used during the broadcast, especially that it was coming from a senior figure like Phiri.

He said the Tonse member needed to maintain responsible discourse, particularly from senior figures in society like her whom he regarded as a mother.

“It is not appropriate for parents and leaders to use such language on public platforms. Children and the general public listen to these programmes and we must all be mindful of the messages we send. We respectfully remind Ms. Phiri, as a mother and a senior politician, that she has a responsibility to promote unity and focus on strengthening the Tonse Alliance, which is currently facing challenges,” he added.

“Terms like ‘hatred’, ‘tribe’, or ‘political persecution’ should not be used to distract from the broader national interest, which is to ensure transparency, good governance, and development.”

He said the UPND remained focused on delivering development in line with their party manifesto.

“To date, we have made significant progress, with around 90 percent of our goals already achieved,” said Simuuwe…https://kalemba.news/politics/lungu-would-have-been-in-jail-by-now-if-upnd-hated-him-but-we-dont-simuuwe/

HEARING, DETERMINATION OF AN ELECTION PETITION IS A SETTLED MATTER

HEARING, DETERMINATION OF AN ELECTION PETITION IS A SETTLED MATTER

….the Constitution Court already guided and there is no need to revisit this provision, says Mukandila

Lusaka… Friday May 16, 2025 (SMART EAGLES)

Lusaka Lawyer Celestine Mambula Mukandila says hearing and determination of an election petition has already being settled by the Constitutional Court and there is no need to revisit this provision.

Among the provisions that the UPND government seeks to amend in the Republican Constitution includes the amendment of Articles 73(2), 101(5), & 103(2) to determine petitions within 90 or 14 days.

But featuring on Diamond Live programme in Lusaka on Diamond TV, Mr Mukandila argued that the Constitutional Court already guided on this matter on two occasions when determining constitution matters.

“I think it’s extremely important to look at the matters we are looking at. There is a petition of 2016 which is the Hakainde Hichilema – Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba vs Edgar C Lungu – Inonge Wina, ECZ and the Attorney General… In that petition, that petition was actually dismissed for one reason, for lack of jurisdiction by the court. The court in dismissing that matter indicated that fourteen days is fourteen days. So the court gave position as to what amount of time amounts to 14 days,” he said.

“There is another matter that was filed into the court… Hakainde Hichilema vs the Attorney General wherein President Hakainde Hichilema was trying to challenge the constitutionality of that decision that was made to dismiss that matter. And in that case, they brought out human rights issues and the fact that their right to be heard was not given because they did not submit whatever it is that they needed to submit – the matter should have been heard on the merit. However, when you look at the judgement in this other case, the court had actually clarified to say this is a forgone issue, fourteen days is fourteen days. This is the second issue.”

Mr Mukandila emphasized that for as long as the constitutional court has guided, which regards to the provision which was before court, there is no need to look at that provision again.

Mr Mukandila has also observed that there is no properly outlined process to amend the current constitution.

He said a lot of stakeholders have not been consulted saying this is a people’s driven document hence the need to widely consult.

FASTON MWALE WELCOMES NEW SOCIALIST PARTY MEMBERS IN CHONGWE

FASTON MWALE WELCOMES NEW SOCIALIST PARTY MEMBERS IN CHONGWE

Chongwe… Friday May 16, 2025 — The Socialist Party (SP) yesterday welcomed new members from Katoba Ward in Chongwe Constituency during a community meeting addressed by the party’s Deputy General Secretary for Politics, Faston Mwale.

Mr Mwale told attendees that the Socialist Party offered hope and a brighter future for Chongwe District, describing the party as a vehicle for change.

He said the leadership of Dr Fred M’membe provided a new direction for the area, with a strong emphasis on grassroots empowerment and equitable development.

He emphasized the party’s commitment to serving the interests of the masses, rather than a select few.

Mr Mwale criticized the current Member of Parliament, Sylvia Masebo, stating that despite having served in three different governments, her tenure had been marked by unfulfilled promises, controversy, and a lack of tangible development in the area.

According to Mr Mwale, it was time for the people of Chongwe to demand better representation and choose leaders who prioritize the needs of their communities.

He reiterated the Socialist Party’s dedication to building a just and equitable society under Dr M’membe’s leadership, noting that the party was working hard to address systemic challenges that had hindered development in the constituency.

Mr Mwale expressed confidence in the potential of Katoba Ward and Chongwe as a whole, stating that effective leadership and collective action could unlock that potential.

He further encouraged the new members to mobilize others to join the movement, calling for unity in building a better future.

“The time for change is now,” stated Mr Mwale who invited all residents to be part of the journey toward a more prosperous and fair Chongwe.

The meeting was attended by several members of the Socialist Payrty’s Central Committee, including Fletcher Kalobwe, Joseph Chibanga, Marian Mwango, Kapasa Makasa Kalulu, Nancy Busiku Mpongo, and Thressa Kayanda from the Women’s League.

Also present were Simon Sinyangwe and Matthews Nsama from the Lusaka Provincial leadership.

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA RESOLUTE IN RESTORING INTEGRITY IN HEALTH SECTOR – FR. FRANK BWALYA

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA RESOLUTE IN RESTORING INTEGRITY IN HEALTH SECTOR – FR. FRANK BWALYA

The United Party for National Development (UPND) has reiterated President Hakainde Hichilema’s unwavering commitment to restoring integrity and accountability in Zambia’s public health system.

Speaking live on Pan African Radio’s “People’s Debate” programme, UPND Presidential Campaign Media Team Director General, Fr. Frank Bwalya, outlined the New Dawn administration’s robust efforts to combat corruption and theft in the health sector.

Fr. Bwalya emphasized that the government has not turned a blind eye to the theft of medicines from public health institutions, but is instead actively addressing the issue through comprehensive interventions.

“This government is not only aware of the challenges but is taking deliberate steps to root out corruption. President Hichilema has shown unmatched resolve by initiating both standard and forensic audits aimed at uncovering and dismantling the networks behind drug pilferage,” Fr. Bwalya stated.

He noted that theft of medical supplies is a long-standing issue, predating the UPND administration. However, what distinguishes the current leadership is its proactive stance and concrete measures to safeguard public resources. Among the interventions cited are enhanced monitoring systems, strengthened oversight mechanisms, and a drive to professionalize procurement and distribution within the health sector.

“The President has made it clear—there is zero tolerance for theft and corruption. Measures have been implemented to ensure that medicines not only reach health facilities but are accounted for and protected from abuse,” he added.

Fr. Bwalya further rejected accusations that the theft is due to government negligence, instead pointing to a deeply embedded problem involving corrupt individuals exploiting systemic weaknesses. He stressed that President Hichilema-led administration has prioritized institutional reform and is determined to close these gaps.

“No government wants to see life-saving drugs stolen. What we are dealing with is a legacy of corruption. The difference now is that we have a President who is serious about cleaning up the system,” Fr. Bwalya said.

He described the theft of medicines as a “cancer” within public institutions, but assured citizens that President Hichilema has already demonstrated strong leadership and political will to treat and cure this problem.

Fr. Bwalya also highlighted the broader policy direction of the New Dawn government, which includes increased investment in healthcare infrastructure, digital record systems to track medicine supply chains, and a renewed focus on public sector accountability.

Meanwhile, Fr. Bwalya reaffirmed UPND’s support for the recently enacted cyber laws, urging responsible use of social media, and called for peaceful engagement as the country prepares for upcoming by-elections. He stressed that UPND remains committed to democratic values and the rule of law.

LUSAKA | WAGON MEDIA

President Hakainde Hichilema has reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to strengthening trade and economic cooperation with Namibia through targeted infrastructure development and regional integration.

During high-level bilateral talks held at State House with Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President Hichilema emphasized the urgent need to invest in border infrastructure, road and rail networks that will unlock new opportunities for trade, reduce import costs, and enhance local production.

“We must accelerate efforts in improving connectivity between our two countries. The road and rail links, coupled with efficient border infrastructure, are not just about trade—they are about transforming our economies and creating jobs,” said President Hichilema.

He also acknowledged the deep historical and cultural ties between Zambia and Namibia, grounded in a shared liberation struggle and Pan-African solidarity. “This is not just a diplomatic relationship—it is a brotherhood built on mutual respect, shared values and a vision for a prosperous region,” he added.

On her part, President Nandi-Ndaitwah announced a significant gesture of cooperation: Namibia has allocated land at a dry port facility for Zambia to boost its trade logistics and economic activity, a move that reflects Namibia’s ongoing support for landlocked neighbours.

“We must join hands to solve common challenges. Our private sectors must work together and operate in an environment of peace, responsibility and mutual benefit,” she said, calling for stronger private-public sector partnerships across borders.

The two leaders echoed a united vision of economic resilience, regional peace, and people-driven development. President Hichilema later hosted a luncheon in honour of his Namibian counterpart, cementing a day marked by diplomatic warmth and strategic focus.

Grok AI under fire for pushing South Africa white genocide narrative

Grok AI under fire for pushing South Africa white genocide narrative

On May 14, 2025, Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok began inserting unsolicited references to “white genocide” in South Africa and the “Kill the Boer” chant into unrelated conversations on X.

The behavior caused widespread confusion and criticism. Grok claimed it was directed by its creators to address these topics but also contradicted itself by emphasizing neutrality.

The incident coincided with the U.S. granting refugee status to a group of white South Africans amid disputed claims of racial persecution.

Speculation suggests a coding error, data poisoning, or deliberate bias tuning may be responsible. The episode raised concerns about AI neutrality and potential influence of developers’ biases.

BOLD THIEVES STRIKE AT DALLAS HILLS, 12 COPPER PLATES VANISH INTO THIN AIR …Truck ambushed like a movie scene, driver left baffled

BOLD THIEVES STRIKE AT DALLAS HILLS, 12 COPPER PLATES VANISH INTO THIN AIR
……..Truck ambushed like a movie scene, driver left baffled

In a daring heist that feels like something straight out of an action movie with a Zambian kopala soundtrack- Ndimupindo, suspected criminals pounced on a moving truck and vanished with 12 copper cathode plates worth a still-undisclosed fortune.

The incident unfolded in the early hours of May 15, 2025, at about 05:30 hours in the usually quiet Dallas Hills area of Chikankata District, Southern Province.

According to police reports from Chikankata Police Station, the copper plates were on a north-to-south journey aboard a white Sino truck (horse: BCF 2751 ZM, trailer: BCD 2922 ZM) owned by Zamland Company of Ndola. The driver, 35-year-old Mr. Silvester Bwalya of Pamodzi Compound, Ndola, was left stunned when he discovered that unknown individuals had cut open the tarpaulin and ratchet securing the trailer without even making a sound.

“These bandits didn’t even wake the driver,” muttered one roadside vendor from the area. “Ati ba ninjas or what? How do you remove 12 plates of copper silently? That’s not theft, it’s talent!”

The driver, who must have been either in a deep sleep or in full cruise mode, only realized what had happened once he was well past the scene of the crime. “The truck was still intact just minus the money-makers,” he reportedly told the police.

The stolen copper cathodes each weighing around 100kg are not exactly easy to carry or hide, which has left both police and the public scratching their heads. “Unless they had a forklift hiding in the bush, awe sure, this one is a Hollywood job,” quipped another local.

Deputy Commanding Officer for Southern Province, Moono F. Namalongo, confirmed the incident in a statement, adding that no arrests have been made so far, and none of the stolen goods have been recovered.

Meanwhile, Chikankata residents have been advised to report any suspicious movements of scrap dealers suddenly driving fancy cars or wearing designer boots “because copper doesn’t just disappear like nshima in a bachelor’s pot.”

Police investigations are ongoing, and authorities have vowed to leave no stone unturned. Or as one officer put it off the record: “Even the stones that don’t want to be turned, we will turn them. Ba kateka batufwila ama resources twalapepesha nomba.”

CHINA’S XINJIANG REGION EXPLORES ENERGY INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN ZAMBIA

16th May, 2025

PRESS STATEMENT

CHINA’S XINJIANG REGION EXPLORES ENERGY INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN ZAMBIA

The Minister of Energy, Mr Makozo Chikote, today held a high-level meeting with Mr Erkin Tuniyaz, Chairman of China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Region, at the Ministry Headquarters in Lusaka.

Chairman Tuniyaz is leading a delegation of energy sector engineers and investors who are in the country as part of follow-up engagements after the recent State Visit to China by President Hakainde Hichilema, during which Mr Chikote held key discussions on energy cooperation with Chinese officials.

In today’s meeting, Mr Chikote urged the Chinese delegation to consider investing in Zambia’s energy sector, especially in renewable energy sources such as solar and wind. He noted that ongoing electricity load-shedding is significantly affecting productivity in key sectors such as mining and agriculture while also impacting youth-led enterprises.

The Minister also outlined several reforms the Zambian Government is undertaking to strengthen the energy sector and foster a more supportive environment for investment. These include efforts to establish cost-effective electricity tariffs, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure long-term policy stability.

Mr Chikote further assured the Chinese delegation that the Government of Zambia is fully committed to supporting genuine investors, offering a stable policy environment and necessary facilitation for successful project implementation.

“The Government of Zambia is committed to fast-tracking energy investments and finding practical solutions to our electricity challenges,” said Mr Chikote. “We are creating an enabling environment through policy and regulatory reforms to attract greater private sector participation.”

In response, Chairman Tuniyaz expressed China’s readiness to support Zambia’s efforts to overcome its energy challenges. He sympathized with Zambia’s current electricity deficit and emphasized the importance of a stable and reliable power supply to support economic growth.

“China is ready to come in and support Zambia,” Chairman Tuniyaz affirmed. He also invited the Ministry of Energy to send technical experts to China to identify specific areas for development cooperation and investment, particularly in the renewable energy sector where China has vast experience and capacity.

As Zambia and China commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration in strategic sectors such as energy aimed at promoting sustainable development and mutual prosperity.

COPPER PRINCESSES CRUISE INTO COSAFA FINAL WITH 5-1 WIN OVER ZIMBABWE

COPPER PRINCESSES CRUISE INTO COSAFA FINAL WITH 5-1 WIN OVER ZIMBABWE

Defending champions Zambia stormed into their fifth consecutive final of the COSAFA U17 Girls’ Championship with a resounding 5-1 win over regional rivals Zimbabwe at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek on Friday.

The Copper Princesses will now face the winner of the second semifinal between Malawi and Mozambique in Saturday’s final set for 14h00 at the same venue.

Midfielder Natasha Kasema opened the scoring in the 36th minute with a thunderous strike that flew past Zimbabwe goalkeeper Tanyaradzwa Nyakuchena, giving Zambia a deserved 1-0 lead at halftime after a dominant display that included four strikes against the woodwork.

Midfielder Hellen Misozi Banda doubled the lead in the 61st minute with a trademark freekick before Zimbabwe pulled one back through Dee Winnie Mapuwa in the 74th minute.

But Zambia responded with a clinical display of attacking football, with substitute Beatrice Njobvu restoring the two-goal cushion 10 minutes from time following a selfless assist from captain Ruth Mukoma.

Grace Phiri added a fourth just three minutes later, rifling in a rocket past Nyakuchena, and Kasema completed the rout in the first minute of added time with a half volley to seal her brace and a decisive 5-1 win for the Copper Princesses.

Banda, who was instrumental in midfield, was named Player of the Match for the second time at the tournament and received her award from COSAFA Executive Committee Member Brenda Kunda.

The Copper Princesses have now scored 18 goals and conceded only one goal in just three matches at the tournament and will be hoping to cap off a dominant campaign with silverware on Saturday.

Renaldo Gouws apologizes to Julius Malema for racial slurs

Renaldo Gouws apologizes to Julius Malema for racial slurs

Former Democratic Alliance (DA) MP Renaldo Gouws issued a public apology on 15 May, for using racially charged and harmful language in a 2010 YouTube video targeting Black South Africans, including Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema.

The apology settled a hate speech case brought by the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC).

In the video, recorded when Gouws was 27 and not yet a public figure, he responded to Malema’s singing of the controversial “K*ll the Boer, K*ll the Farmer” song. Gouws used racial slurs, including the K-word and N-word, called Malema an “ignorant, little fing bl*ck idiot,” and described those singing with him as “fing b*rbaric people,” while criticizing affirmative action as a “new apartheid.”

The video resurfaced, prompting the SAHRC to pursue legal action for its racist and inflammatory content.

In his apology, Gouws acknowledged that his language was “insensitive, divisive, and deeply hurtful,” aligning with the Constitutional Court’s ruling that such terms are unutterable and racist. “I am sorry for the pain, anger, and trauma my words have caused,” he stated, admitting that using such language to provoke was unacceptable, even if not meant literally.

The SAHRC withdrew the case, sparing Gouws potential penalties like community service.

The Trump Jet Tale in the USA…Qatar Gift Raises Dust over Possible Compromise for POTUS

The Trump Jet Tale in the USA
…Qatar Gift Raises Dust over Possible Compromise for POTUS

By Amb. Anthony Mukwita

16 May 2025

His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar is a great and generous man—a prized friend if you move in the high royal circles of Arab wealth and deep pockets.

From Zambia, the name may seem distant, even alien. So why do I bring up Qatari royalty, glitz, and glamour today? The reason is simple.

The Emir of Qatar has gifted the most powerful man on Earth—yes, the one and only Donald Trump—with a multi-million-dollar jet the American media are calling a “Palace in the Sky.”

Currently parked in San Antonio, Texas, this luxury jet is only about 13 years old and valued at around $400 million. The stupendously rich Emir, it seems, has no real use for it—except for the fact that he wants an upgrade.

Hard to believe, I know, but it’s true. Trump has reportedly agreed to accept the gift, pending final approval by the U.S. Congress.

Here’s the catch: under U.S. law, the President—commonly referred to as POTUS—cannot accept such lavish gifts from foreign governments, as they may constitute a conflict of interest or compromise national interests.

Congress must give the green light, and it’s proving to be a bumpy ride.

Both Republican and Democrat lawmakers have expressed opposition to the gift. The Pentagon has estimated that upgrading the jet to meet POTUS-level security could cost up to $1 billion—yes, with a “B.” Think “Nkandla,” but on ster0ids.

Critics are asking valid questions: What does Qatar expect in return? Is this a ‘retirement package’ for Trump? After all, in just under two years, Trump could leave office—and the jet would be donated to his presidential museum.

Yet the Pentagon would still be responsible for its maintenance, at taxpayer expense, with only Trump using the Qatari gift.
Trump hates to look a gift horse in the mouth.

I wish I had friends like the Don and His Royal Highness. All I need is a modest jet—though, I hear, even spare parts can be quite costly for a single engine lol! The 747 has four.

Trump already has access to two Boeing 747s, but he complains that they’re aging—about 40 years old. I’m not sure what that is in ‘dog years’, but engineering experts say 40 isn’t too bad for these big machines.

Then again, America is the wealthiest nation on Earth—they can afford a little extravagance.

Lessons for Zambia

If you’ve gotten lost in all the opulence, here’s the takeaway: the United States remains a model of accountability and transparency.
They have strict limits on what public officials can receive, even gifts from friendly nations.

Zambia, once regarded as a budding democracy in Southern Africa, should take a leaf from this. We must clearly define and publicize what gifts government officials are allowed to receive—to prevent graft and abuse of office.

I wish the Don luck in acquiring his new toy. If approved, it will be yet another glass ceiling broken in Trump’s long list of headline-making executive actions.

Back to Zambia from Qatar

Closer to home, dust is still swirling over a diplomatic spat between Zambia and the United States after life-saving medical drugs donated by the U.S. government reportedly went missing.

According to U.S. Ambassador to Zambia, H.E. Michael Gonzales, the disappearance of these drugs could affect over 1.3 million Zambians who rely on them annually, potentially leading to serious health consequences—even loss of life.

The Zambian government has responded, pledging to investigate the theft, which is good. However, this has not been without some diplomatic ‘back-and-forth’ between Foreign Affairs Minister Mulambo Haimbe and Ambassador Gonzales.

As someone with experience in international relations and diplomacy, I was widely quoted on this issue. I maintain what I said then: “Diplomacy is all about talking—and talking—and talking.”
Zambia must work this out with Uncle Sam for the sake of our 60 year old stellar relationship, we must win together or lose alone.

These medications could mean the difference between life and death. Those responsible for the theft must be brought to justice swiftly. We know the Don HH resents graft or the whiff of it so clearly he will act on this swiftly.

Restoring Zambia’s good international reputation is crucial, especially to avoid a domino effect of diplomatic backlash from other cooperating partners like the EU.

From Drugs, Jets and Politics—to Energy

On a more positive note, I was pleased to learn that Zambia has secured foreign debt financing through Stanbic Bank to construct a 100MW solar power plant in Chisamba—touted as the biggest in Sub-Saharan Africa.

A firm called GreenCo of Africa will be involved in this critical energy project, helping to address our country’s current power deficit.

I was especially thrilled to see GreenCo’s name in the mix, as I played a small but meaningful role in bringing the company to Zambia during my time as Ambassador to Germany.

I facilitated high-level ground breaking meetings between GreenCo and then-President Edgar Lungu, which helped lay the groundwork for their presence here, they deserve the growing success.
I mention this because the work diplomats do often goes unnoticed.

The public sees the suits and the champagne, but not the hard hours and strategic negotiations behind the scenes.

Right now, Zambian households are freezing during this cold season, despite a generous rainy season. The power shortage affects everyone—from factories to barber shops—and stifles economic growth.

So, as the weekend beckons, I’ll end with what I always say: Make love, not war—we only have one Zambia. Others may visit, but we must remain focused on job creation and poverty reduction, especially as we head toward elections next year.

On a Lighter education note, join me on 31 May for a book signing event at the newly refurbished Grey Matter Bookstore at East Park Mall as I sign some books and shake hands. Let’s talk books, ideas, and everything in between.

HONORING LEGACY: ROADS AND LANDMARKS NAMED AFTER AFRICAN LEADERS

HONORING LEGACY: ROADS AND LANDMARKS NAMED AFTER AFRICAN LEADERS

Zambia’s founding President, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, is highly revered both in Africa and internationally for his significant role in the region’s liberation struggle.

In recognition of his contributions, various Southern African countries have named roads and buildings in his honor.

Dr. Kenneth Kaunda Road in Windhoek, Namibia, is just one example of the infrastructure dedicated to his legacy.

Many nations have paid tribute to Dr. Kaunda by dedicating roads and other landmarks to his memory.

Similarly, Zambia has historically named places and institutions after significant figures, such as Dedan Kimathi Rd (named after Kenya’s freedom fighter) Evelyn Hone College (named after Sir Evelyn Hone, the last Governor of Northern Rhodesia, now Zambia) and Kwame Nkrumah University (named after Ghana’s former President). Examples are still many.

Here in Zambia many, many roads have been named after freedom fighters, musicians, athletes, broadcasters, famous journalists, etc.

Today, Kasama Road will be officially renamed to commemorate the late former Namibian President Hage Geingob.

This will be graced by Her Excellency President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwa, the President of Namibia, who is currently visiting Zambia for a two-day working visit.

IT’S TIME FOR A ZAMBIA CDF AUTHORITY—LETS GET DEVELOPMENT RIGHT

Title: IT’S TIME FOR A ZAMBIA CDF AUTHORITY—LETS GET DEVELOPMENT RIGHT

By Duncan Liywalii

When the government increased the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to historic levels, many of us cheered. It was a bold move toward decentralization and community-led development. But fast-forward to today, and we find ourselves asking: why are some projects stalling? Why is there inconsistent quality? And why do some constituencies thrive while others fall behind?

THE ANSWER LIES NOT IN THE IDEA OF CDF ITSELF—BUT IN HOW MUCH WE MANAGE IT.

THE PROBLEMS ISN’T THE MONEY—IT IS THE SYSTEM

The current setup places too much pressure on local councils, many of which lack the technical expertise to vet, plan, and monitor CDF projects. Worse, political influence sometimes turns CDF into a campaign tool instead of a development tool. This is not what the people were promised.

THE SOLUTION: A Zambia CDF Authority (ZCFA)

Zambia needs a professional, semi-autonomous body to take charge of CDF management—a Zambia Constituency Development Fund Authority (ZCFA). This institution would standardize processes, monitor progress in real time, and ensure that every kwacha spent leads to real results on the ground.

HOW WOULD IT WORK?

MPs recommend projects based on community needs.

Councils implement, but under technical guidance.

ZCFA approves, disburses, and monitors—free from political influence.

Citizens track progress online through a digital dashboard.

It’s a smarter, cleaner, and more transparent model—one that India has used successfully through its MPLADS program.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Zambians deserve quality infrastructure, youth skills centers that function, safe classrooms, and clean water systems that actually work. A CDF Authority will help deliver that—efficiently, equitably, and transparently.

Let’s stop leaving CDF to chance. Let’s build a system that respects taxpayers, empowers communities, and delivers real development.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa reportedly spent over US$500,000 on a luxury private jet during his recent overseas trip to Russia and Belarus.

President Mnangagwa Spends US$500K on Private Jet to Russia and Belarus

Mnangagwa travelled aboard a Boeing Business Jet (A6-DAS), a high-end aircraft owned by Royal Jet in the United Arab Emirates. The plane costs around US$18,000 an hour to rent.

According to ZimLive, the total cost of the trip is estimated at over half a million US dollars.

“President Mnangagwa is homebound after trips to Russia and Belarus. He left on May 6 on the $18,000/hour luxury 737 Boeing Business Jet (A6-DAS) owned by Royal Jet of the United Arab Emirates. Based on market rates for hiring the aircraft, the government sank over $500,000,” ZimLive wrote on X.

Mixed Reactions Over Costs
In the comments section, some users questioned the calculations, suggesting the trip might have cost millions instead. Others criticised the government for renting planes when purchasing a jet could be more economical, while some defended the expenditure, stating it was less than a million.

Here are some of the comments:

@mputailic:

Are you sure it’s $500,000 only? My calculations tell me it’s $5,000,000. How is it calculated? Flying hours only?

@MoyoChihota:

If the government buys a $150 million dollar plane which is way cheaper you would complain too. So, what do you suggest must happen?

@Mashangolloyd:

@Truthsocial263:

Is 18k for flying hours only. How about ground/waiting time?

@ChillazJay:

My calculations put it at way more than US$500,000. Actually, in the millions of dollars, probably around US$ 2,000,000!

Diddy Faces Yet Another S3xual Assault Lawsuit From Woman Who Mocked His P3n1s S1z3

An anonymous woman accused Diddy of sexually assaulting her at his Manhattan apartment in 2001 after multiple other meetings.

Diddy will face his fourth day in his federal criminal trial for alleged sex trafficking today (Thursday, May 15). In the midst of that process, though, more sexual misconduct allegations against him continue to emerge, all of which he and his legal team have denied.

This latest accusation comes in the form of an anonymous woman accusing Sean Combs of sexual assault, according to TMZ. The Jane Doe claims that the Bad Boy mogul sexually assaulted her at his Manhattan apartment in 2001.

Per the alleged victim’s story, they met a couple of times at his Manhattan recording studio, nightclubs, and a restaurant. They allegedly met for a fourth time in July of 2001, which is when the alleged sexual assault occurred.

After a night out, Combs allegedly threw the Jane Doe on his bed after locking the door. While placing his hand around her throat, he allegedly said, “I’m going to suck the life out of you.”

Then, the woman alleges that Combs held her down and pulled his penis out, which she compared to “a large Tootsie Roll.” She said she felt “relieved” by this, since she thought it wouldn’t hurt as much. In addition, the Jane Doe alleged that she told Diddy to stop, but he ignored her until he was about to climax.

Afterwards, the woman allegedly wiped semen off her body and asked a bodyguard to show her the way out. Diddy’s staff and colleagues allegedly drove her and her friend home.

Also, the Jane Doe alleges that Combs contacted her a few times after this alleged incident. He even allegedly invited her to one of his white parties, but she turned him down.

In the lawsuit, the woman claims this alleged incident ruined her vulnerability and comfort with other men, turned her into a shell of herself, and led to her pursuing psychotherapy. She seeks damages for physical abuse, emotional abuse, psychological damage, trauma, and injury. Diddy and his legal team have not reportedly addressed this matter at press time.

Elsewhere, Diddy’s federal trial continues to move along, as we are still in the middle of the testimony of Cassie Ventura. Her 2023 lawsuit against Combs blew this whole scandal up.

Netflix is set to release a new documentary called “Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy

Netflix’s new documentary about Travis Scott’s 2021 Astroworld Festival will feature interviews with victims’ families, 911 audio, and more.

It’s been over three years since a deadly crowd crush took place at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival in Houston. Now, Netflix is preparing to unveil a new documentary about the devastating accident, Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy. Consequence reports that the doc will feature interviews with survivors and victims’ family members, 911 call audio, and more. It’s currently scheduled to premiere on June 10.

“On November 5, 2021, Travis Scott stepped on stage to perform his set at Astroworld: what would have been the best night of the festivalgoers’ lives quickly turned into a catastrophe that left 10 of them dead,” the description reads. “The Astroworld Tragedy takes an exclusive look at that night, told from the perspective of the survivors, paramedics, and security staff that were at the center of this catastrophe.”

An official trailer for the documentary arrived earlier this week, giving viewers a glimpse of what they can expect.

The Astroworld Festival tragedy left 10 attendees dead and hundreds injured. Scott, his companies, concert promoters, and more have since been hit with several lawsuits. They’ve faced serious criticism for the alleged lack of preparation and overall safety measures that could have contributed to the deadly crowd crush.

In May of 2024, the last remaining wrongful death lawsuit against Scott and Live Nation was settled. It was filed by the family of 9-year-old Ezra Blount. Blount was the youngest person to pass away as a result of the 2021 Astroworld Festival.

Treston Blount, Ezra’s father, says the child was on his shoulders enjoying the show when they were crushed by the crowd. Treston lost consciousness, and when he came to, Ezra was missing. Following a frantic search, he was found severely injured at a nearby hospital. He succumbed to his injuries a few days later.

“The family will continue its journey to heal, but never forget the joy that Ezra brought to everyone around him,” S. Scott West, an attorney for the Blount family said in a statement after the settlement.

Cassie reportedly identified herself and 13 other alleged “freak-off” participants in a series of photos and videos t

Diddy’s trial continued today, and Cassie identified herself and several others featured in photos and videos of his alleged “freak offs.”
Diddy’s trial continued today (May 15), and again, his ex-girlfriend Cassie took the stand. According to AllHipHop, the songstress identified herself and 13 others in a series of explicit photos and videos tied to the mogul’s alleged “freak off” parties.

At one point, Cassie identified herself in one of the images, describing it in detail. “There is baby oil on me,” she said. “I am standing there during a ‘freak-off’ with a candle and lubricant on the table.” Another individual identified in the gallery was Johnathan Oddi, who alleged in a 2018 interview that he was Diddy’s “sex slave.”

Cassie accuses Diddy of coercing her into participating in these alleged drug-fueled sex parties involving male escorts. She alleges that she participated to please the Bad Boy founder at first, but later did so out of fear. “I felt pretty horrible about myself,” she said, adding that she felt “disgusting” and “humiliated.”

Today in court, various text messages between Diddy and Cassie were read aloud. In some of them, she showed interest in sleeping with him, calling him “sweet,” and more. In a text sent in 2009, she told him, “I’m always ready to freak off, it can be whenever.”

As for what else Cassie has said on the stand so far, she’s recalled multiple instances of alleged physical assault. Once, for example, she alleged that Diddy assaulted her after being told she was attending Drake’s OVO Fest in Toronto. “Sean came to my home & tried to attack me. I was thrown into the bed frame,” she alleged.

Cassie also revealed how they would recover from the freak off parties. “I’d take opiates. I wanted to feel numb. We’d get massages, I.V. fluids. The chef would cook us something,” she alleged.

Teen girl escapes ‘house of horrors’ where mom and stepfather held her captive for 7 years in abuse

0

Ateen girl has reportedly escaped a house of horrors where she was allegedly abused for seven years by her mother and stepfather.

On May 8, the girl, 18, miraculously escaped from the suburban home in Gloucester Township, New Jersey with the help of a neighbor.

She told police the horrific conditions she endured since 2018 when her mother, 38-year-old Brenda Spencer, pulled her from school.

After she was removed from the sixth grade, the teenager was allegedly forced to live in a padlocked bathroom where she was kept chained up, per the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.

The 18-year-old also told cops that her stepfather, 41-year-old Branndon Mosley, sexually abused her for years and often struck her with a belt.

She alleged that he denied her food and sexually abused her while she had her hands chained.

Chief of Gloucester Township Police David Harkins said at a press conference that the victim also revealed that she had allegedly been forced to live in a dog crate for 12 months though it was meant for the couple’s Great Danes.

Her parents also kept her in an empty room with nothing but a bucket, which she had no option to use other than a bathroom.

According to a Daily Mail report, the victim claimed that she was forced to live in sickening conditions, with an alarm system alerting her mom and stepfather once she tried to escape.

Harkins stated that initially, the victim hesitated to share the information with police, yet contacted them a week later after she escaped.

He also said the case was one of the most ‘despicable’ their department had ever had to deal with.

Cops did not immediately share how she escaped the home yet revealed they met with the victim at a grocery store to take her statement.

She chose to decline domestic abuse services, yet called law enforcement two days later to recall the full horrific ordeal.

Detectives found stomach-churning conditions when they searched the home, with the likes of a slew of dogs, chinchillas, and other animals that the girl was forced to live with, all being discovered.

Also, a second girl living in the home, who was just 13 years old was found, and both teen girls were removed from school, allegedly being homeschooled during the abuse.

Neighbors told local NBC affiliate, WCAU-TV, that the family rarely left the home and they had never seen the two girls living there.

Spencer and Mosley were arrested and face a slew of charges relating to kidnapping, neglect, and assault, including one count of third-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Mosley is also facing sexual assault charges and endangering the welfare of a child by using sexual contact.

According to reports, Spencer was unemployed, and Mosley worked as a train conductor. Now, they are both behind bars and await detention hearings.

Tory Lanez: Legal Team Claims Artiste Did Not Shoot Megan Thee Stallion

Lawyers for incarcerated musician Tory Lanez have reportedly produced new evidence claiming that the artiste did not shoot Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.

According to the supposed evidence, the legal team stated that Megan Thee Stallion’s former friend, Kelsey Harris, was responsible for the shooting.

The lawyers made these claims at a press conference on Wednesday, alleging that Tory Lanez, aka Daystar Peterson, was never given “a fair trial, free from bias, political interference, and media-driven pressure.”

“[Harris] fired at [Megan] three times. Mr. Peterson grabbed her arm and knocked it down, and the gun fired two more times,” one of the lawyers was quoted.

“In essence, Mr. Peterson never shot anybody. He never fired the gun. This statement aligns with the statement of the only non-party witness to the case, who at trial testified he saw two women fighting.”

“There were three potential suspects in the car that night. And yet the only DNA sample was taken of Mr. Peterson, even though unknown DNA was found on the gun,” the representative added.

Early this week, Tory Lanez was reported to be in ‘critical condition’ after he was stabbed in prison. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed the incident via some outlets.

The man who stabbed him has been identified as 42-year-old Santino Casio, who has been serving a life sentence for second-degree murder.

In a statement posted to his Instagram page, Tory’s team claimed he suffered wounds to his back, torso, the back of his head, and the left side of his face.

As the Canadian rapper continues to recover at a hospital, his legal team believes their new evidence will lead to his release.

The stabbing incident and supposed fresh evidence come barely a week after the artiste posted a picture of his new physique behind bars and noted that his next album will be ready soon.

In February, Tory Lanez had his recording session cut short when a disturbance occurred inside a part of the California Correctional Facility.

Excerpts of the video, which appeared online, showed the artiste rapping through the prison telephone when the disturbance occurred behind him.

The composer of the Prison Tapes series had said he and his engineer had found a way to record music over the jail phone and still maintain its quality.

Protest erupts in central Mali over alleged army killings

In the central Malian village of Diafarabé, dozens of demonstrators, mainly women and children, took to the streets to express outrage after reports surfaced that more than 20 civilians were killed by the Malian army.

The protest took place on Wednesday, just two days after the alleged executions. While accusations of military abuse are not uncommon in Mali’s conflict-ridden central region, public demonstrations have become increasingly rare since the military seized power and tightened restrictions on civil liberties.

“The women are demonstrating their anger to denounce the alleged murder of 27 people by the Malian army last Monday,” said Diowro Diallo, who leads the Fulani association Dental Wuwardé.

Diallo, speaking to The Associated Press on Thursday, recounted how the military allegedly detained men who had gathered at a local livestock market. “The army arrested 28 men who were at the Diafrabé market to sell their animals,” he said. “The soldiers crossed the river behind the village with the prisoners, but one escaped and returned to the village to report that the army had executed the others.”

Diafarabé is a Fulani-majority village in Mali’s central Mopti region, an area plagued by insecurity and frequent attacks by the al-Qaida-affiliated group Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM).

In response to the allegations, the Malian army said it had begun looking into the matter.

“An investigation has been opened following these allegations, and we are waiting for its conclusion to determine what happened,” stated army spokesperson Col. Maj. Souleymane Dembélé on Thursday.

This incident echoes previous allegations of abuse. A December report by Human Rights Watch accused Malian troops, along with Russian mercenaries from the Wagner Group, of executing civilians and burning down homes during operations in central and northern Mali.

John Ewing Jr. makes history as Omaha elects first Black mayor

John Ewing Jr. etched his name into Omaha’s history books Tuesday night, becoming the city’s first Black mayor following a decisive win over Republican incumbent Jean Stothert.

Ewing, who has long served as Douglas County Treasurer, unseated Stothert as she sought an unprecedented fourth term in office. The race culminated in a historic shift for Omaha and a potentially symbolic victory for Democrats ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Fresh off his win, John Ewing Jr. delivered a hopeful message centered on inclusion and collective progress.

“Tonight, we embark on a new chapter,” he told a cheering crowd of supporters. “Together we will build an Omaha that offers opportunity for the ‘good life’ — to everyone.”

Jean Stothert, who made history as the city’s first woman to hold the office, acknowledged her opponent’s victory in a gracious concession and looked back on her tenure with pride.

“Tonight, I’m very proud, grateful and hopeful. Proud of 12 years of success. I’m grateful for your support, your friendship and your trust. And I’m hopeful that the momentum we have created will continue,” she said.

Confirming her concession, Stothert added, “I called John Ewing and I congratulated him. John Ewing is inheriting tonight a great city, and we leave a strong foundation for the city that we love. We are grateful and we are hopeful.”

Ewing’s win may signal shifting winds in a state that generally leans Republican. Though Nebraska remains solidly red in statewide contests, Omaha — often seen as a “blue dot” — has emerged as a competitive battleground for Democrats.

National Democrats seized on the moment. Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin cited the result as part of a broader trend.

“From coast to coast, from blue to purple to even red states, Democrats are overwhelmingly outperforming Republicans in nearly every election held this year — as voters condemn Republicans’ plot to attack Social Security and health care while hiking prices on working families every chance they get.”

Back in Nebraska, party leaders heralded Ewing’s ascent as a milestone for representation and leadership.

“As a public servant for 43 years, Mayor-elect Ewing’s commitment to the people of the great state of Nebraska speaks for itself,” said Nebraska Democratic Party Chair Jane Kleeb. “My fellow Nebraskans: We made historic progress tonight, and tomorrow, the hard work continues on as we look to 2026. Democrats are here to do the work for the people.”

DR Congo govt accuses Rwanda and M23 rebels of mass killings, abductions and war crimes in eastern region

Congolese officials have leveled serious accusations against Rwanda’s military and the M23 rebel faction it allegedly supports, claiming they are responsible for a wave of atrocities in the conflict-ravaged eastern region of the country.

According to a statement issued by Congo’s interior ministry on Wednesday, the alleged abuses took place between May 10 and 13 and targeted civilians whom the rebels accused of being affiliated with the Congolese military or its allied militia groups.

“The toll includes 107 murders, more than 4,000 men and boys abducted and forcibly loaded onto trucks to an unknown destination, hundreds of cases of summary executions, rape, torture, looting, restrictions on freedom of movement, as well as incursions into health facilities,” the statement read.

These claims have yet to be independently corroborated. The Associated Press reported that both the Rwandan military and M23 did not immediately respond to inquiries for comment.

The conflict in eastern Congo, which has simmered for decades, sharply intensified earlier this year. In January, M23 forces captured the strategic city of Goma, followed by Bukavu in February. The renewed hostilities have resulted in an estimated 3,000 deaths and sparked growing concern about a potential regional war.

The allegations from Kinshasa surfaced shortly after M23 publicly showcased hundreds of detained individuals in a stadium in Goma. The group insisted the captives were members of the Congolese army or affiliated militia fighters, claiming Congo had armed them to ignite violence and then shift the blame to M23.

According to U.N. investigators, M23 benefits from the support of roughly 4,000 Rwandan troops and has, at times, issued threats to advance toward the Congolese capital, Kinshasa, located more than 1,600 kilometers (1,000 miles) to the west.

The roots of the current unrest are tied to long-standing ethnic tensions in the region. M23 contends it is protecting Congo’s ethnic Tutsi community. Rwanda, for its part, argues that Tutsis in Congo are under threat from Hutus and remnants of the militias behind the 1994 genocide that claimed the lives of around 800,000 people, primarily Tutsis and moderate Hutus.

After the genocide, many Hutus crossed into Congo and established the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), a rebel group that Rwanda now claims is “fully integrated” into Congo’s armed forces, a claim Congo continues to reject.
