Zambia secures 5,000 MW clean energy proposal from UK to end load-shedding by December 2025!
Energy Minister, Makozo Chikote, has invited UK-based Echo Eight investments limited to establish clean energy operations in Zambia, as part of efforts to end load-shedding and achieve energy security by December 2025.
Speaking at Zambia house in London, Mr. Chikote welcomed Echo Eight’s proposal to deploy up to 5,000 megawatts of renewable energy within six months of approvals and has stressed the urgent need for investors capable of delivering timely results toward Zambia’s long-term energy goal to generate 9,000 megawatts and become a regional power hub through new inter-connector projects.
Echo Eight founder, David Green, has assured the Minister that his company, backed by immediate capital, is ready to install Solar, hybrid, and advanced storage systems, featuring patented 3d solar technologies and rooftop wind units.
And Director of planning and information, Mwape Chipala, says the government is ready to fast-track processes for credible investors, noting that even a gigawatt of power could help stabilize Zambia’s national grid.
Meanwhile, senior financial analyst for petroleum, Allan Mtonga, has emphasized the need for innovation and speed in delivering energy solutions during a meeting also attended by deputy head of mission Lubu Nxumalo, counsellor economic, Kasalika Mulenga, and first secretary trade, Yvonne Zulu.

CALL FOR MASS MOBILISATION AND CONCURRENT CONDUCT OF MOBILE ISSUANCE OF NATIONAL REGISTRATION CARD AND MASS MOBILE VOTER REGISTRATION EXERCISE
ADVOCATES FOR DEMOCRATIC GOVERNANCE FOUNDATION
PRESS STATEMENT
CALL FOR MASS MOBILISATION AND CONCURRENT CONDUCT OF MOBILE ISSUANCE OF NATIONAL REGISTRATION CARD AND MASS MOBILE VOTER REGISTRATION EXERCISE
28 April, 2025
The Advocates For Democratic Governance Foundation(ADEG) would like to urge all eligible citizens to seize the opportunity to obtain their National Registration Cards during the ongoing mobile registration exercise across the country.
This registration exercise which aims to register 3.5 million Zambians, is a crucial step towards ensuring that all citizens can participate in the democratic process. We are particularly encouraging young people who have reached the age of 18 and above to take advantage of this timely opportunity. Obtaining a National Registration Card is a fundamental requirement for registering as voters, thereby enabling them to exercise their right to participate in elections as both voters and candidates.
We urge all eligible citizens to visit their nearest registration center and take this important step towards exercising their civic rights. To make the process even more efficient, we call upon the Electoral Commission of Zambia to consider bringing forward the planned mass mobile voter registration exercise to run concurrently with the current National Registration Card registration drive. This would not only increase convenience for eligible citizens but also potentially boost voter registration numbers by reducing logistical challenges and costs.
By conducting these exercises concurrently, we can ensure a more streamlined process, increased efficiency, and reduced costs for citizens. We also urge all electoral stakeholders to join forces with us in mobilizing eligible citizens to register. Achieving the target of 3.5 million registrations will require a collective effort and effective strategies.
Furthermore, we caution political parties to take a keen interest in collaborating with the registration authority and monitoring the process to prevent claims of manipulation. By working together, we can ensure a successful registration exercise that lays the foundation for inclusive elections.

Kamanga in the company of general secretary Reuben Kamanga and Chipolopolo assistant coach Moses Sichone joined a family members and a handful of fans at the Heroes Acre in remembering the fallen heroes.
The FAZ chief reiterated the long-term dream of honouring the fallen heroes by qualifying for the senior men’s world cup.

While their aspirations remain unfulfilled, we take pride that other national teams have achieved this prestigious goal,” he said.
“Our Women’s National Team, Under-20 Men’s Squad, and Under-17 Women’s Team have all participated in FIFA World Cup tournaments. We remain committed to helping Chipolopolo reach the World Cup, fulfilling the vision of those who rest here.”
Kamanga said FAZ was still prodding government to actualize the museum proposal to immortalize the legacy of the fallen heroes.
“We continue working toward establishing a museum dedicated to these courageous individuals. Our ongoing discussions with the Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts reflect this commitment,” he said.
“Last year, FIFA President Gianni Infantino encouraged families to connect with the FIFA Foundation to develop a meaningful legacy project. This opportunity remains available through the foundation established by the children of our fallen heroes.”
And family representative Tamara Mtonga expressed gratitude to FAZ for its continued support in ensuring the day is commemorated annually.

DR. MUCHIMA CALLS FOR MORE INVESTMENT IN NHIMA
DR. MUCHIMA CALLS FOR MORE INVESTMENT IN NHIMA
WASHINGTON, DC. April 28, 2025 Minister of Health, Dr. Elijah Muchima says the Ministry of Finance and National Planning has been supportive to the sector amid withdrawal of aid from key stakeholders.
Dr. Muchima has further called for investment in the National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA) to extend health insurance coverage to the poor and vulnerable.
Dr. Muchima was in Washington D.C for the 2025 Spring Meetings where he also participated in a high-level dialogue on sustainable health financing in Africa, convened by the AfroChampions Initiative.
The forum brought together key stakeholders to identify actionable strategies and forge partnerships critical to strengthening health systems across Africa.
Addressing the Zambian delegation at the residence of Zambia’s Ambassador to the USA Dr. Chibamba Kanyama, Dr. Muchima said his engagements were a success as they discussed ways of sustaining healthcare in Africa following the withdrawal of aid in the health sector.
He said the Ministry of Finance and National Planning in Zambia has acted tremendously by supporting the health sector amid the withdrawal of financial aid.
“How do we sustain ourselves following the withdrawal of funding? These are the key issues that we critically looked at. We first start domestically, regional and the continent,” remarked Dr. Muchima.
He emphasised the need to use local funds prudently, in view of the limited aid.
Dr. Muchima said the Government will take care of the poor who can’t manage to pay for NHIMA, so that they can also receive proper insurance schemes.
“We need to invest in NHIMA to broden our health schemes. Reduce on wastage. We should not take it lightly. NHIMA should extend health insurance coverage to the poor and vulnerable, ” the Minister said.
Dr. Muchima noted that the fiscal constraints the country faces calls for sustainable solutions to bridge finding gaps for health commodities.
And Ambassador Kanyama said the Mission will continue to engage stakeholders in the health sector despite the withdrawal of funding in the health sector.

UPND YOUTHS WANT NDOLA DC TO STOP ATTACKING MPs
UPND YOUTHS WANT NDOLA DC TO STOP ATTACKING MPs
United Party for National Development (UPND) Ndola District Vice Youth Chairman in charge of Politics, Hitmus Mulengu, has called on Ndola District Commissioner Joseph Phiri to desist from attacking some members of Parliament.
In a statement made available to the media, Mr. Mulengu wondered why the District Commissioner has consistently been attacking Ndola Central MP Frank Tayali, who is currently appointed by the President to serve as Minister of Transport and Logistics.
Mr. Mulengu notes that he expects the DC to be a unifier and ensure that he continues to foster development with other leaders who are appointed and elected to work for the people of Ndola.
Mr. Mulengu has urged the DC to adhere to what the Secretary to the Cabinet, Mr. Patrick Kangwa, directed: that civil servants who want to be active in politics should resign and stop hiding behind their positions.
He has since applauded Mr. Tayali for having kept quiet without responding to the DC despite several attacks.
Livingstone Mayor’s Reckless Act Triggers Stampede: 9-Month-Old Child Dies in K10 Chaos
Livingstone Mayor’s Reckless Act Triggers Stampede: 9-Month-Old Child Dies in K10 Chaos
By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma
It is heartbreaking beyond words and infuriating beyond measure to witness the loss of a 9-month-old child, trampled to death in a senseless stampede at a UPND youth rally at Maramba Stadium in Livingstone. Chaos erupted when the Livingstone Mayor, in a display of reckless arrogance, threw K10 notes into a desperate, starving crowd, triggering panic, a stampede, and, tragically, death.
A life full of promise was stolen in seconds, not by accident, but by the selfishness and thoughtlessness of leadership.
This horrific incident serves as a brutal, bloodstained reminder of the crushing poverty that millions of Zambians endure every single day. The fact that a few K10 notes — barely enough to buy a loaf of bread — could ignite such deadly desperation should shatter the conscience of this nation. Poverty in Zambia is no longer hidden behind closed doors. It is screaming from our streets, bursting from our markets, and now, tragically, it is claiming the lives of our most innocent — in full view of the world.
Yet, those entrusted with leadership choose not to confront this suffering. Instead, they exploit it. They do not fight poverty; they parade it. They do not lift up the poor; they gamble with their lives for cheap, hollow political points.
This was not an accident. It was a predictable and preventable disaster, a direct result of a leadership culture that has grown callous, arrogant, and dangerously disconnected from the people it was elected to serve.
As we mourn this unspeakable loss, we must demand answers.
Why did the mayor, an elected official charged with protecting the people, deliberately unleash desperation among the most vulnerable? Was this generosity? Or was it a shameless, staged publicity stunt to harvest applause from the misery of the poor?
When you know that your people are battling daily for mere survival, when you see the hollow cheeks, the worn-out bodies, and the anguish in the eyes of mothers and fathers, how can you knowingly act with such reckless cruelty?
This was not charity. It was humiliation. It was stripping people of their dignity, treating them like animals scrabbling for scraps. It was turning their hunger into a spectacle for political theatre.
And a 9-month-old child paid the ultimate price.
The mayor must take full and unequivocal responsibility. This was not an unfortunate incident. It was an indictment of a political system that uses poor people as pawns, that values photo opportunities over human life, and that weaponizes hunger for applause.
True leadership demands foresight. It demands wisdom. It demands compassion and a fierce respect for the sanctity of human life. None of those qualities were demonstrated at Maramba Stadium.
Had the so-called assistance been distributed with dignity, planning, and humanity, this child would still be alive today.
When political arrogance collides with public desperation, and poverty is used as a prop for campaigns, death becomes inevitable.
Today, a family sits shattered by grief. A community is gripped by sorrow and rage. And a nation must confront a terrible question: How far have we fallen, that the poor must die simply to be noticed?
This tragedy is not an isolated mistake. It is a symptom of a deeper and deadlier disease within our leadership. We are becoming a country where the suffering of the poor is not solved, but staged. Where hunger is not healed, but broadcast for claps and cameras.
We must not allow this to be buried under empty apologies and hollow sympathy. We must demand real, tangible accountability. We must demand leaders who value lives, not headlines. We must reject the politics of poverty that tramples on the dignity and lives of our people.
Because make no mistake: A child has died, not by random chance, but because desperation was used as a spectacle and leadership failed at its most basic duty — to protect life.
May this precious, innocent life not be lost in vain. May it ignite outrage strong enough to tear down this broken system. May it awaken every Zambian to stand for something better — to demand leadership rooted in compassion, dignity, and respect for every life.
Leadership without compassion is not leadership at all. It is a danger to every citizen.
Enough is enough.
The time for change is not tomorrow. It is now. It is today. It must begin with justice for that 9-month-old child and for every Zambian crushed under the weight of poverty and failed leadership.

“A LEADER BORN OF PERSEVERANCE: THE HAKAINDE HICHILEMA STORY”
By Timmy
As I reflect on the remarkable journey of President Hakainde Hichilema, I am filled with a sense of awe and admiration. From the depths of adversity to the pinnacle of leadership, his story is a testament to the power of resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment to the people of Zambia.
Who can forget the image of President Hichilema waving to his supporters at the Lusaka Magistrate Court Complex in 2017, surrounded by heavily armed police officers? This moment, though fraught with uncertainty, showcased his unshakeable resolve and dedication to the cause.
The treason charges, the police custody, and the uncertainty of his fate could have broken a lesser man. But President Hichilema’s spirit remained unbroken. He continued to inspire his supporters, and his message of hope and change resonated with the nation.
Today, as President of Zambia, he stands tall, an example of hope for a brighter future. His journey serves as a reminder that even in the darkest moments, courage, perseverance, and a commitment to justice can lead to triumph.
President Hichilema’s presidency is an example of the power of the people’s voice and the importance of leadership that truly serves the nation. His story inspires us to believe in the possibility of a better Zambia, where justice, equality, and prosperity reign.
Let us celebrate the leadership and vision of President Hakainde Hichilema, a true champion of the people.

KAMANGA TEAM CHALLENGES MWEEMBA TO DEFEND CONSTITUTION CONSISTENTLY
KAMANGA TEAM CHALLENGES MWEEMBA TO DEFEND CONSTITUTION CONSISTENTLY
Lusaka… Monday April 28, 2025 – The campaign team for Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga has hit back at presidential challenger Keith Mweemba, citing him for selective outrage and political posturing in the run-up to the crucial May 9 elections.
In a statement issued earlier today, Kamanga’s camp questioned Mweemba’s commitment to upholding the FAZ constitution, following his recent press release alleging constitutional breaches by the current executive.
The team said while Mweemba was quick to demand the full tabling of financial and statutory reports, he had previously remained silent when the National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) and court injunctions disrupted FAZ’s constitutional processes.
“Where was Mr Mweemba to defend the FAZ constitution when the National Sports Council through its CEO, Mr Musunsa, directed FAZ General Secretary Mr Reuben Kamanga not to call an executive meeting to approve the accounts?” the statement asked. “Where was he when the FAZ AGM was halted by an injunction?”
The Kamanga team further reminded Mweemba that FIFA itself directed outgoing provincial chairpersons to oversee provincial AGMs, a decision which he accepted by attending seven out of ten such meetings without raising objections.
The statement also argued that accusations against Kamanga, particularly regarding the alleged failure to present financial statements, were misleading. They clarified that the presentation of FAZ’s 2024 financial statements and 2025 budget were scheduled agenda items for the AGM, which Kamanga is constitutionally mandated to chair.
“It is clear that there is a deliberate and calculated attempt to discredit Mr Kamanga,” the statement reads, adding that Kamanga, a Chartered Accountant and member of both CAF and FIFA finance structures, had no challenge in presenting FAZ accounts if the NSCZ allowed him to preside over the AGM.
The Kamanga team warned that the current narrative being pushed by Mweemba suggested an unwillingness to face Kamanga in a properly constituted election.
“It is surprising that Mr Mweemba is advocating for the disqualification of candidates before elections are held. If Mr Mweemba has evidence of wrongdoing, he has every right to report it to law enforcement agencies instead of attempting to derail the electoral process,” they charged.
The team reiterated that the proposed move to defer discussion of certain agenda items until after elections was not an attempt to shield anyone from scrutiny but a practical measure to conclude a process already delayed by court actions.
In closing, the Kamanga campaign insisted that proceeding to elections would ensure a fully functional FAZ executive is in place and urged Mweemba to hold any FAZ member accountable after the elections if wrongdoing is proven.
SENANGA DISTRICT SET TO SHOWCASE CLIMATE – RESILIENT AGRICULTURE AT 2025 AT AGRICULTURAL AND COMMERCIAL SHOW
SENANGA DISTRICT SET TO SHOWCASE CLIMATE – RESILIENT AGRICULTURE AT 2025 AT AGRICULTURAL AND COMMERCIAL SHOW
Senanga, Western Province
Senanga District is gearing up for its much-anticipated District Agricultural and Commercial Show, scheduled for 6–7 June at Senanga Day Centre School. Under the theme “Adapting to Climate Change,” this year’s event aims to spotlight how local farmers are innovating and strengthening their practices to withstand the challenges posed by a changing climate.
Ahead of the main show, a Block Show will take place on 16–17 May, bringing together six agricultural camps — Mwanamwalye, Mutwa, Kakenge, Sikumbi, and Mumbula — to highlight success stories in sustainable farming, climate-smart technologies, and resilient crop production.
Following a season of good rainfall and the promise of a bumper harvest, participation is expected to reach record levels. Farmers will showcase climate-resilient crops, conservation farming methods, irrigation innovations, and other adaptive practices that help safeguard livelihoods against erratic weather patterns.
Organizers say the show will offer more than just exhibitions; it will be a hub for learning, knowledge exchange, and empowerment. Workshops and demonstrations will focus on techniques that help farmers adapt to droughts, floods, and other climate-related impacts — ensuring food security and promoting sustainable development in Senanga.
“The theme is very timely,” said one of the organizers. “Our farmers are on the frontlines of climate change. This show is about celebrating their resilience and encouraging the spread of farming methods that protect both the people and the environment.”
The Senanga District Agricultural and Commercial Show continues to be a cornerstone event, bringing together farmers, agribusinesses, community members, and stakeholders in a shared mission of building a stronger, more climate-resilient agricultural sector.
KAMANGA SETS RECORD STRAIGHT ON RE-CONVENED AGM…Smokes out his accusers
KAMANGA SETS RECORD STRAIGHT ON RE-CONVENED AGM…Smokes out his accusers
PRESS RELEASE
We have taken note of the press release of 24th April 2024 by Mr Keith Mwemba, FAZ presidential candidate wherein he cited purported/ alleged breaches of the FAZ constitution.
From the outset, we welcome Mr Mweemba’s concerns, and would be happy if he could also share with the FAZ councilors and the public his position regarding the following;
1. Whether the FAZ executive committee following the conclusion of the 10 (ten) provincial elections has the mandate to preside over FAZ matter without the conclusion of the remaining 3 (three) elective positions namely president, vice president and women’s representative.
2. Where was Mr Mweemba to defend the FAZ constitution when the National Sports Council through its CEO, Mr Musunsa directed FAZ General Secretary Mr Reuben Kamanga not to call the FAZ executive meeting as advised in his letter of 14th March 2025, to approve the FAZ counts which he is demanding today. For avoidance of doubt the National Sports Council CEO’s directive reminded the General Secretary that the accounts should not be tabled since the exco’s mandated expired on 28th February 2025.
3. Where was Mr Mweemba to defend the FAZ executive commitee following the directive by FIFA on 13th March that all 10 (ten) provincial AGM’s would be chaired by the outgoing provincial chairmen, and the final AGM of 29th March by the FAZ president who would remain in office until elections were concluded and a new executive elected.
Interestingly Mr Mweemba saw it fit to attend 7 (seven) of the provincial AGM’s and did not question the legitimacy of the FIFA directive. Surprisingly Mr Mweemba chose to remain silent when the National Sports Council directed the FAZ General Secretary on 25th March 2025 that the FAZ President should NOT chair the AGM on 29th March 2025 in Livingstone.
4. Where was Mr Mweemba to defend the FAZ constitution when the FAZ AGM was stopped by an Injunction?
5. Presentation of the financial statements for year ended December 2024, and the budget for 2025 are agenda items for the AGM and the FAZ president is expected to preside over the entire AGM.
We note that Mr Mweemba in his press release demands the “full discussion of the financial report, statutory reports and all items constitutionally provided for, move a motion to dismiss, impeach and or/ disqualify those who will be found wanting or perpetuating breaches or violation of the constitution, and demand for criminal investigation for embezzlement of funds”
Mr Mweemba conveniently and deliberates ignores to state that the FAZ president must chair the meeting as provided for who is supposed to chair the same AGM. It is very clear from the foregoing that Mr Mweemba with the help of the National Sports Council is NOT ready to participate in any election where Mr Kamanga is a participant. It is surprising that Mr Mweemba is advocating for disqualification of candidates before elections are held. If Mr Mweemba has any evidence of any wrong doing by any FAZ member including Mr Kamanga, he has every right to report to law enforcement agencies as has been the case in the past instead of refusing to proceed to elections in the absence of an AGM presided by the FAZ president with all agenda items tabled.
6. The proposal to ask members to defer all agenda items and proceed to elections is intended to ensure completion of the electoral process which was delayed by the injunction halting the AGM in Livingstone, is NOT in anyway an attempt by Mr Kamanga to avoid presentation of the accounts.
Suffice to state for Mr Mweemba’s benefit in case he is not aware , Mr Kamanga is a Chartered Accountant, FCMA, FZICA and holds a practicing licence from ZICA. Further, Mr Kamanga has served as CAF Finance Commitee as vice president since 2021, and presented the CAF financial statements and budget at the last CAF congress on 22nd October 2024 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Mr Kamanga has served on the FIFA Governance, Audit and Compliance Commitee since 2017, and would have NO challenge to present the FAZ 2024 accounts at the reconvened AGM on 9th March, as long as he is allowed by the National Sports Council to chair the meeting. This we implore Mr Mweemba to attend to as a condition precedent to his demands.
In conclusion, it is clear that there is a deliberate and calculated attempt to discredit Mr Kamanga that he is refusing to have the accounts tabled because of suspected wrong doing. To the contrary we wish to impress upon Mr Mweemba to call upon the National Sports Council to allow Mr Kamanga as FAZ president to chair the AGM and present the accounts as demanded. Otherwise, proceeding to elections allows FAZ to have an elected fully functioning executive, and avoids any new injunction directed at Mr Kamanga since the meeting will be under the charge of the FAZ Eelectoral commitee. In any case, Mr Mweemba will still retain his right to hold any FAZ member accountable regardless of who wins the elections on 9th May.

HH HAS RAISED THE BAR IN FAILURE TO UPHOLD CONSTITUTION, KAFWAYA TELLS MWEETWA
HH HAS RAISED THE BAR IN FAILURE TO UPHOLD CONSTITUTION, KAFWAYA TELLS MWEETWA.
… Says the economy is the worst it has ever been in the country. The cost of living is the worst we’ve ever had.
LUNTE PF MP Mutotwe Kafwaya has wondered what bar of leadership President Hakainde Hichilema has raised when the economy is at its worst.
Commenting on Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa’s remarks that he often has nightmares over who will succeed President Hichilema in 2031 because he had raised the bar of leadership too high, Kafwaya said the President had only raised the bar in bad leadership and failure to abide by the Constitution.
“Why is he having nightmares for 2031? Is he saying that UPND has no capacity to develop talent? From 2021 to 2031 they are unable to develop talent? But what is this bar he’s talking about? Is it the laws that they have pushed through like the cyber laws? Is it the constitutional amendments that they are trying to push through? What is a bar? Because the economy is the worst it has ever been in the country. The cost of living is the worst we’ve ever had, democracy has plunged to the lowest ever, governance is completely the worst that we know of,” Kafwaya said.
“Some people are even saying I was not appointed but they have been signing reports from 2023. You go to court and say ‘I wasn’t appointed’. The bar in terms of bad leadership, failure to abide by constitutional provisions, caderism in institutions is the highest. Maybe If honourable Mweetwa thinks there’s no one who is going to beat this government on those bad aspects of leadership, I would agree with him”.
Kafwaya lamented that members of parliament could not even iron their clothes or access warm water because National Assembly Motel was also load-shedded.
“But good leadership, go to the people, go and ask them. Mweetwa is eating and enjoying himself, he’s drinking so he’s a very wrong person to talk about the high bar. This bar is the lowest and I can assure you. Look at the reports that have been coming out of the Financial Intelligence Centre, can you say that’s a high bar? It’s the worst. I don’t think there will ever be anything like that. Go to the National Assembly Motel, load-shedding, MPs who have come from their constituencies living in a load-shedded facility; you can’t iron, you can’t warm water, and it’s crazy. That is their best. The bar he’s talking about is disorganisation of political parties by the misapplication of the Registrar of Societies,” said Kafwaya.

The Consortium of Civil Society Organisations has urged Zambia’s Chief Justice, Dr. Mumba Malila, to prioritise the establishment of a specialised Electoral Court ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Consortium Chairperson Isaac Mwanza said the proposed court would play a crucial role in enhancing the administration of electoral justice by expediting the resolution of disputes, ensuring transparency, and involving judges with the necessary technical expertise.
Mr. Mwanza further appealed to Zambia’s international partners to support the initiative by funding the court’s establishment and facilitating specialised training for judges and magistrates. He noted that such investment would not only improve the quality and efficiency of electoral justice but also contribute to broader judicial reforms.
The Consortium also expressed concern over the growing trend in Economic and Financial Crimes Courts to deny bail to convicted individuals, particularly high-profile figures who have lodged appeals. Mr. Mwanza pointed out that with appeals often taking years to conclude, denying bail may result in individuals serving full sentences before their cases are reviewed—leading to potential injustice, especially if convictions are later overturned.
He emphasised that this is particularly troubling in cases involving short-term sentences, where the punishment may be completed before the appeal is heard.
In light of these concerns, the Consortium is calling on the Chief Justice to provide clear administrative guidance to judicial officers, ensuring that bail decisions are grounded in law and fairness, rather than influenced by public sentiment or perceived punitive motives.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to engaging with the Judiciary, cooperating partners, and other stakeholders to support reforms that promote fairness, efficiency, and the protection of constitutional rights within Zambia’s justice system.

Kenneth Kaunda Day: A Tribute to a Father of the Nation – President Hakainde Hichilema
Kenneth Kaunda Day: A Tribute to a Father of the Nation
Fellow citizens,
Today, the 28th of April, we gather as one people to honour the life and legacy of our Founding Father, Dr. Kenneth David Buchizya Kaunda.
In August 2021, this day was enshrined as a public holiday, not merely as a date on our calendars, but as a living reminder of the sacrifices, dreams, and hopes of a man who gave his all so that we might live in freedom and dignity.
President Kaunda was more than a leader; he was the soul of our nation’s conscience. A tireless advocate for unity, peace, reconciliation, and love, not just within our borders, but across the African continent. His belief in the preservation of our culture and heritage was profound, knowing that a people anchored in their identity would stand firm through the tides of time.
Today, as we pause to reflect, let us summon the spirit of unity that Dr. Kaunda so passionately nurtured. Let us renew our vows to peace, to reconciliation, and to the hard work and sacrifice that freedom demands.
May we love our neighbor, as he loved all of humanity. May we cherish our national identity, as he so carefully preserved it. And may we, in our own time, be worthy heirs to the noble legacy he bequeathed us.
May the spirit of Kenneth Kaunda live on in every Zambian heart.
May God bless his memory, and may God bless our beloved Zambia.
Happy Kenneth Kaunda Day!
Hakainde Hichilema,
President of the Republic of Zambia
WE ARE LOSING A NATION, A PEOPLE AND A CULTURE: WAKE UP!
WE ARE LOSING A NATION, A PEOPLE AND A CULTURE: WAKE UP!
A LETTER TO ZAMBIAN BELIEVERS
By Victor C Chikafya.
I was shocked with what I saw ku show grounds last Friday. As late as 20.00hrs when we came from church we went to Manda Hill to buy something and couldn’t find any empty parking slot. All the slots were taken up mainly by motorists who had come from all around Zambia for Pastor Jerry Eze’s meeting. After this experience, thoughts started dropping in my spirit.
What I am about to share is solely addressed to Zambian believers to ponder. How will the coming generations look at us?
Let me state from the onset that I am not against foreigners and l am not writing this out of envy or jealousy BUT OUT OF CONCERN for our people and future generations. I also know very well that from time to time God raises and brings people who bless nations. This is by no means intended to demean any servant of God.
This is not the first time Zambia has hosted such meetings that have drawn crowds to celebrate a man of God. We have received white and black and we’ll continue to receive more and welcome them.
We need foreigners and we need outsiders to help us, challenge us and take us to levels we have never been. It’s healthy.
Arising from the interest ,the frenzy and the passion I saw, I just had the following impressions dropping in my spirit about Zambia.
THE BEST THINGS IN ZAMBIA ARE FOREIGN OWNED
Everything in Zambia seems to be driven by outsiders. Name them;
1. The Mines.
2. The biggest supermarkets.
3. The biggest farms.
4. 18 Banks out of 19 are foreign.
5. Intemba muma komboni.
6. The biggest supermarkets
7. Water manufacturing companies
8. Oil companies
9. The biggest Hotels
10. The best tourist spots.
11. Pharmaceutical companies
12. Chemists
13. Wholesalers.
14. Block making companies.
15. Manufacturing companies.
16. Fast foods outlets (Inkoko ne fyumbu).
Check any industry or line of business and tell me who is driving it and getting the biggest chunk. Please add your own to this list.
The people who control the economic environment of a place determine the spiritual environment and culture of that place. They are actually the ones in control. Money is a force.
All the highlighted industries represent financial portals through which the wealth of this nation flows out.
Besides this check the level to which Zambians are abused, bullied, harrassed, intimidated, robbed of their dues and silenced by those we lovingly welcome IN OUR OWN HOME. Worse still some of our own people for a morsel of bread betray their own people and side with those who pocket poor people’s wages and salaries. Where has such gain taken us? Do we love our nation? What will you tell Jesus when you stand before him? Believers let us fear God and save our nation. God has lifted us to higher positions to make just laws.
No one challenges this because we’ll be seen as bad people and lose investment. Anyone can cross our borders, come in and bully us as much as they want and it’s business as usual.
Many flock in not because we are good but………. (You are free to fill in the blanks with whatever comes to mind). The environment is very conducive to bully
WEAK MENTALITY
We were raised to keep quiet as a mark of humility and love. We are a mentally weak nation. We find it hard to compete and fight at the international stage. Our successes are few and after long periods of waiting. We are good at wearing scarves and waving flags ati Zambia ku calo with little to show for it. Bane for once Impact where we are and not flags and scarves.
Just check how some of our promising and talented sportsmen falter on the international stage all because of lack of aggression. Too nice and too weak to succeed in a rough world
Who bewitched us?
AND NOW NAKU CHURCH?
Dear Pastor, I would probably not be far from the truth to insinuate that the largest number of your church members attend an online prayer meeting conducted by someone from outside than the one you conduct. This includes members of mainline congregations. Why?
Doesn’t it bother us to ask ourselves why our children no longer eat breakfast, lunch and dinner in our homes but from our neighbours homes? Have we faced ourselves and asked ourselves hard questions? How have we packaged ourselves ?: Have we asked our people to honestly assess us and give us honest feedback no matter how it hurts? Have we ever imagined that we may be the problem people are avoiding because we may not be adding value to their lives?
THIS MAY NO LONGER BE NORMAL.
It’s national bewitchment which must be reversed. Who taught us to hate our own to the extent of annihilating them and hate whatever is local?
The most disappointing thing I am seeing today are senior believers(including Pastors) lining up for deliverance and very convinced that they need deliverance over and over again? How will church members view their leaders falling and rolling on foreign altars in Zambian colours or busy following online prayers? Does God reside outside Zambia?
Our major undoing is the comfort mentality and lack of aggression , passion and zeal in our approach to issues of life. This has made it easy for Indians, Nigerians, Rwandese,Somalians, Abasungu, Congolese, Chinese , Lebanese, Boers and many others coming from aggressive territories to rule over us.
But make no mistake Zambians know how to pull each other down. We can’t support our own. (Cowardly acts). Fighting ourselves and failing to conquer outwards is a sure sign of cowardice, fear and being extremely weak. It’s like a husband who is a champion at beating his wife and easily gets walloped by fellow men.
LOOSING OUR IDENTITY
We are losing our identity and if the church doesn’t get together to protect this nation, we’ll completely lose it. Why the church? It is the largest constituency that meets almost every day and impacts people greatly.
Slowly the church we have known is eroding. Our own songs are vanishing. We are also discarding our songs. Where are our Psalmist’s? Where is our nice music? Our own men and women of God are becoming distant and unknown. Our members are aligning with men and women we don’t know and some with questionable credentials and not groomed among us. Our doctrines are shifting to align with strange teachings and beliefs. The word of the Lord has been replaced by man made mantras which we are chanting with gusto.
We are importing foreign cultures and destroying the fabric of our society.
Have we failed to raise the next generation that our people must now rely on external spiritual fathers?
With the advent of Social media, what can we do to bring proper visibility to the right things? We see questionable practices and doctrines being propagated and we are watching our children following and going astray and we remain mute for fear of being attacked. Meanwhile the people propagating evil are aggressive and not scared of being attacked.
A NATION THAT DOESN’T HONOUR IT’S OWN.
I am deeply saddened. What nation are we that doesn’t believe it’s own prophets who have laboured to build the great spiritual environment we enjoy.
How can a nation that fails to honour its own but honour outsiders surely progress?
Most of us have probably neglected the men and women who formed the foundation of our christian faith. Those who changed our spiritual diapers. We claim they are not anointed now that they have raised us to the level we reached before we abandoned them
Some people we are copying know how to honour and promote their own. They have no interest in outsiders.
Look at how this nation even treats it’s own senior citizens who have retired. In almost every organization there is a troubled old citizen following up their unpaid dues at some office everyday.
Talk about insulting our own leaders who have served us or are still serving. I guess Zambia can win that world cup of insults.
WHERE IS A GENERATION? WHO IS CARRYING YOUR BATON?
30 to 50 years ago we had men and women who were impacting our nation with powerful meetings. They did mighty things and shook the nation.
Some are very much around but have gone into oblivion. They are still in ministry but very low key.
Where are those vibrant young ladies and young men who had so much promise to be impactful in ministry? What happened to their faith?
Which young people are carrying the batons of the father’s of the land?
How have the young and upcoming ministers been treated by their fathers and mentors and why? How have the young and vibrant ministers treated their fathers and why?
We now have a generation of young people who are being fathered and mentored online by men and women they don’t know and whose fruit they don’t understand. We have a huge chunk of people in our churches who are more indoctrinated by people they follow online than their physical pastor. Sadly even some pastors children are more aligned to outsiders. They are the ones posting other men and women leaving their own parents.
Why are our people topping the list of those following people they don’t know in foreign lands? What can we need to do to fix this situation? Of course the days are evil and deception is on the increase as the bible clearly states but how can we stem this as a local body if Christ?
WHO IS WRITING OUR HISTORY?
If we don’t document our history, someone else will and they will distort it to suit their narrative.
Who has documented the rich history of the Zambian church to show the coming generations where we are coming from? Oral history may not be accurate and some valid details may be forgotten or entirely omitted.
Do you have a written history of your church? Where is the written history of our men and women who have done exploits?
A generation is here today that doesn’t understand what the founding fathers did and don’t even know them.
Our visibility on social media platforms needs to improve as we propagate what is right. Why should evil prevail? The world has shifted and if we hold onto the world of yesterday, we shall sink into oblivion.
WHY HAVE WE CUT TIES AND WHY ARE WE FIGHTING EACH OTHER?
Some great and impactful relationships have ceased. The great and powerful interdenominational prayer and fasting meetings have ceased. City wide revival meetings have ceased. Some of our leaders who were once close are now enemies and don’t talk to each other. Members are aware and they watch our hypocrisy. Why are we comfortable with hatred?
The other sad reality is that we have injured each other. Many have crossed over to other churches bitter, offended and wounded. No one is ready to reach out to the other because we have become so big and powerful to say sorry and mend fences. How can we pray together?
Why has politics polarized the body of Christ? Has politics seperated us from the love of God? Why has politics made us cold ?How did we get to this level?
Have we cut ties because God answered our prayers and we are now so prosperous, living well, driving great cars, built bigger and better churches, we have more people and the others are no longer in our class? Why can’t we no longer pray together again.
Our disunity and fights have given rise to “unknown” people to come in our midst and take our people. This is the very reason why we see foreigners flourishing in Zambia because locals are busy fighting each other, sizing each other and bringing each other down. Some of this is actually witchcraft manipulation and satanic infiltration in the church.
We now have strange people ravaging our people with strange and everlasting deliverance sessions and practices. Some of our church members are victims. We may even mock them for not being serious.
WHERE HAS OUR INITIAL ZEAL GONE?
Where is our zeal for national prayer? Where are those men who organized powerful prayer meetings and prayer chains for Zambia?
Why have we given up?
WHAT ABOUT THE PROPHETIC WORD OVER ZAMBIA
Beloved of the Lord, some of us where present when God spoke great things about Zambia. Infact someone reading this is the vessel God used to prophecy about Zambia.
What are you doing about that word?
TIME TO UNITE
Zambia is so endowed with human and natural resources. Zambia is rich and it’s time to produce our own Billionaires and celebrate them.
Some of the people in diaspora must come back to build a new Zambia.
Zambia is so blessed in the sense that we still have a great number of believers that have seen the hand of God on our nation. They are still living because they still have an assignment to fulfil and probably this is what they owe Zambia.
Man of God, Woman of God, when did you last speak to that friend of yours with whom you moved mountains in those days? You prayed and you saw God in action. The life you lead now is as a result of those prayers of agreement. Surely are our differences beyond reconciliation?
Man of God, Woman of God, is it possible that for the sake of posterity you stand together, talk and pray for Zambia? You are the ones who heard what God said about Zambia.
It’s time for senior clergy to arise, throw away their differences, pray together and agree to salvage Zambia and support our own. It’s time to soul search ourselves critically, repent before God and forge alliances that will protect the nation from wolves in sheeps clothing.
The unity of the nation lies in the unity of the church. The fences and walls are broken down, our people are vulnerable. We must ring fence Zambia once again
CONCLUSION
The problem is ourselves and we are the ones to self correct.
How long are we going to be a nation without identity, tossed to and fro?
How long are we going to copy others?
When shall we stop blocking each other? When shall we build and promote our own?
When shall we amend our laws to suit our own people? When shall we wake up and protect our own children?
When shall we write our books and celebrate ourselves?
What kind of Zambia shall we live behind for our children’s children?
The church is the last hope for Zambia . When we lose it, there will be no Zambia.
If we don’t act to preserve this nation, it will become something else when the older generation bows out.
It’s time to arise, write those books, take responsibility over our nation without fear.
It’s time to form a shield around Zambia and become the people God has intended us to become.
It’s time for Zambia to impact the world positively. Zambia has great men and women of God.
It’s time for Zambians to run industries and many billionaires will come from the church.
IT IS TIME TO PROMOTE ZAMBIA AND ZAMBIANS.
May God heal our relationships and bring us together to do his work.
Let prayer be the starting point. ANYTHING GREAT STARTS WITH PRAYER. REORGANIZE AND REINFORCE. MORE ENERGY AND MORE AGGRESSION!
God bless Zambia
OUR HEROES: Remembering the Heroes: The Gabon Air Disaster of April 27, 1993
OUR HEROES: Remembering the Heroes: The Gabon Air Disaster of April 27, 1993
By Kamphembele Ngulube
Today marks a somber anniversary for Zambia as we remember the Gabon Air Disaster that took place on April 27, 1993. I was only 19 years old in my second year at UNZA. I remember this sad day quite vividly.
A military DHC-5 Buffalo aircraft carrying the Zambian national football team crashed into the Atlantic Ocean shortly after taking off from Libreville, Gabon. Tragically, there were no survivors.
The team was en route to Senegal for a crucial World Cup qualifying match. The disaster claimed the lives of 30 people, including 18 players, coaching staff, and officials. Among the fallen were some of Zambia’s brightest football talents and beloved national figures, including:
Players:
• Efford Chabala (Goalkeeper)
• John Soko (Defender)
• Whiteson Changwe (Defender)
• Robert Watiyakeni (Defender)
• Eston Mulenga (Midfielder)
• Derby Makinka (Midfielder)
• Kelvin “Malaza” Mutale (Striker)
• Timothy Mwitwa (Striker)
• Moses Masuwa (Striker)
Coaching Staff:
• Godfrey “Ucar” Chitalu
• Alex Chola
• Wilson Mtonga (Team Doctor)
Officials and Others:
• Michael Mwape (FAZ Chairman)
• Nelson Zimba (Public Servant)
• Joseph Bwalya Salim (Journalist)
The Gabon Air Disaster remains one of the darkest days in Zambia’s sporting history. It is a painful reminder of both the fragility of life and the sacrifices made in pursuit of national pride. The memories of those lost continue to live on, and their contributions to Zambian football are forever etched in the heart of the nation.
Today, we honor their legacy, cherishing the dreams they carried and the inspiration they left behind.
ELEPHANTS DESTROY CROPS AT DREAMLAND FARM
ELEPHANTS DESTROY CROPS AT DREAMLAND FARM
It was a heartbreaking morning for the team at DREAMLAND Farm in Siyachiyasa, Livingstone, after a herd of elephants crossed into their land overnight, causing widespread destruction to their sorghum fields. Months of hard work, significant investment, and sleepless nights nurturing the crops were wiped out in a single night.
The farm management described the incident as not just a loss of crops, but a major setback to their broader mission of improving food security, creating employment, and contributing to community development.
In a statement released this morning, the farm emphasized their respect for wildlife as an important part of Zambia’s national heritage and tourism industry. However, they expressed deep concern over the growing threat of human-wildlife conflict, which they say is endangering rural livelihoods and even human life.
DREAMLAND Farm has appealed to the Zambian government, the Department of National Parks and Wildlife, and all relevant stakeholders to strengthen protective measures for communities living near wildlife corridors. They also called for urgent compensation from the Zambian Wildlife Authority for the losses suffered, stressing that the destruction of their sorghum plantation has severely impacted their operations.
“We remain committed to farming and to our community, but without timely intervention, these devastating losses could discourage many hard-working farmers across the country,” the statement reads.
The farm concluded with a strong call to action, urging authorities to provide protection, compensate affected farmers, and implement sustainable solutions to safeguard both wildlife and people.

ZAMBIA AND CHINA STRENGTHEN ECONOMIC TIES THROUGH PARTNERSHIP
Minister of Commerce, Trade, and Industry, Hon. Chipoka Mulenga, MP, recently met with Chinese Assistant Minister of Commerce, Tang Wenhong, to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and implementing the China-Africa Ten Point Plan.
This meeting follows President Hakainde Hichilema’s successful trip to China for the FOCAC Summit.
Hon. Mulenga expressed gratitude for China’s commitments in Zambia, including the upgrade of the TAZARA rail line and partnership in revamping Mulungushi Textiles in Kabwe.
The revamped Mulungushi Textiles mill is expected to employ approximately 500 local people once operational, contributing to the government’s efforts to boost economic growth and create employment opportunities.
The Chinese government’s investment in Zambia is substantial, with over $5 billion invested in various projects as of 2024. This investment underscores the strong bilateral relations between Zambia and China, with a focus on mutual benefit and growth.
The partnership between Zambia and China continues to thrive, driving economic development and promoting economic diversification.
The revival of Mulungushi Textiles is a significant step towards revitalizing Zambia’s industrial sector, and with China’s support, Zambia is poised to harness the potential of its textile industry, creating new opportunities for economic growth and development. This collaboration highlights the commitment of both nations to work together for economic prosperity

The Copper Princesses are World Cup bound and once again, history has Carol Kanyemba’s fingerprints all over it!
Staff Sergeant Kanyemba, the fearless tactician from the Zambia Army, has led the Zambia U-17 Women’s National Team to their second consecutive FIFA World Cup, blazing a trail never before seen in Zambian football.
Roaring to a dominant 4-1 victory over Benin and sealing a 6-2 aggregate triumph, the Copper Princesses left no doubt that they belong on the world’s biggest stage. From the first whistle, Kanyemba’s warriors attacked with relentless pace, clinical finishing, and rock-solid defense, crushing Benin’s hopes and lifting an entire nation.
This latest triumph builds on Kanyemba’s groundbreaking feat last year, when she became Zambia’s first female head coach to guide a national team to a FIFA World Cup. Now, she has shattered records, rewritten history, and ignited a new era for women’s football in Zambia.
The Copper Princesses are not just going to Morocco — they’re charging in as a team to watch. And at the heart of it all stands SSgt Kanyemba, a true national hero.
My letter to you as I depart: Hakainde Hichilema- George N. Mtonga
George N. Mtonga Wrote;
My letter to you as I depart: Hakainde Hichilema .
His Excellency Mr. Hakainde Hichilema
President of the Republic of Zambia
State House
Lusaka, Zambia
Subject: A Plea from One Freedom Fighter to Another: Amend the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act to Protect the Zambia We Dreamed Of
Your Excellency,
I write this letter not merely as a citizen but as one who walked the long and painful road of hope alongside you.
I remember the days when your voice was silenced, when your rights were trampled, when the full machinery of the state was unleashed against you for daring to speak truth. I remember the indignities you suffered — arrested, humiliated, cast as a villain in a land you only sought to serve. I remember how we prayed for you, how we stood for you, because your suffering was not just yours — it was the suffering of every Zambian who longed to be free.
You taught us that injustice must never be tolerated. You taught us that power must serve the people, not enslave them.
Today, Mr. President, I am burdened by a deep fear — a fear that the very pain you once endured could return, not to you, but to others, under laws written in our time. The Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act of 2025, though crafted with good intentions, holds within it seeds of oppression — seeds that, if left unchecked, may one day grow into the same tree that once bore the bitter fruits you tasted.
Section 19 criminalizes “false information” without a clear standard, a tool that can silence the honest mistake as easily as it can silence the inconvenient truth.
Section 21 conceals government actions from the very citizens who entrusted you with power.
Section 23 punishes what is “offensive” — a word that tyranny always defines at its convenience.
Section 37, in its vastness, risks branding patriots as terrorists simply for raising their voices.
Sections 44, 56, and 60 grant powers that, in wrong hands, could turn Zambia into a surveillance state, where fear replaces freedom.
Mr. President, you of all people know: good leaders come and go, but bad laws endure. No democracy dies overnight — it withers slowly, law by law, silence by silence, until the spirit of a free people is broken.
You are the child of Zambia’s struggle, a man who refused to bow even when the weight of the state fell on your shoulders. You did not survive that fire so that we could build new chains with our own hands.
We believed in you because you showed us what courage looks like. I beg you now to summon that same courage — not for yourself, but for the Zambia that will exist long after we are gone.
Amend these sections. Protect the freedoms you fought for. Do not allow future leaders, less noble than you, to inherit weapons that could destroy everything you have sacrificed for.
History will ask of you: “When you had the power to protect the people, what did you do?”
Let the answer be: “He chose freedom.”
Let the answer be: “He trusted the people more than he trusted power.”
The future watches us. The young girl in Mansa who dreams of becoming a journalist. The young man in Mongu who dreams of leading his people. The farmer in Chinsali who dreams of being heard. They all depend on the decisions you make now.
I am not asking for a favor. I am pleading for the future.
May God guide your heart.
May God bless Zambia.
And may history remember you as the President who, even at the height of his power, chose restraint over control, freedom over fear, and love for country over love for power.
With hope and respect,
George N. Mtonga

Buffalo City cancels Omotoso’s crusade after public outrage
Buffalo City Metro has scrapped televangelist Timothy Omotoso’s planned crusade at Orient Theatre, citing public outrage over his rape and human trafficking acquittal.
Mayor Princess Faku on April 24 barred Omotoso’s Jesus Dominion International church from all municipal venues.
Omotoso was cleared by the Gqeberha High Court on April 21 due to what it called a weak NPA case, sparking backlash from survivors like Cheryl Zondi and groups like the EFF. The NPA may appeal, and three Chapter 9 bodies are investigating. Omotoso could also face deportation.
“This is about community safety,” said activist Nosipho Mthembu, as anger mounts over the gap between court rulings and public calls for justice.

WE ALWAYS WORK WITH THE GOVERNMENT – CHIEF MPEZENI
WE ALWAYS WORK WITH THE GOVERNMENT – CHIEF MPEZENI
April 26, 2025
Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people has reaffirmed that traditional leaders will always work with the government.
Speaking when President Hakainde Hichilema’s Special Assistant for Political Affairs, Levy Ngoma, paid a courtesy call on him at Ephendukeni Palace, Chief Mpezeni thanked President Hichilema for gracing this year’s Ncwala Traditional Ceremony, saying his attendance was a strong testament of respect and commitment to traditional leadership.
Chief Mpezeni also praised the New Dawn government for its progressive plan to construct chiefs’ palaces in all chiefdoms across the country.
Reacting to President Hichilema’s commitment to the construction of dams as communicated by Mr. Ngoma, Chief Mpezeni welcomed the move and urged the government to expedite the construction process to boost agriculture and livestock farming in the chiefdom.
“Monga pa nkhani ya madam ya mwalabila, tupempha boma kuti iikeko nzeru, chifukwa Manzi ni umoyo,” said Chief Mpezeni.
The traditional leader further appealed to the government to begin the distribution of fertilizer early, citing the unpredictable rainfall patterns currently affecting the country.
Meanwhile, President Hichilema’s Special Assistant for Political Affairs, Levy Ngoma, conveyed a goodwill message from the President, emphasizing that the Head of State was delighted to send him to the palace.
Mr. Ngoma reiterated President Hichilema’s unwavering commitment to working closely with all 286 traditional leaders across the country.
He further underscored the government’s dedication to the construction of chiefs’ palaces, describing it as a priority project.
Commenting on the free education policy, Mr. Ngoma said President Hichilema remains steadfast in his pursuit of sustainable development through free education and encouraged Chief Mpezeni to advocate for massive school enrollment among his people.
“The President has sent me to encourage you to continue embracing education through advocacy to your subject,” said Mr. Ngoma.
Mr. Ngoma also outlined the government’s ongoing efforts to combat the rising cases of child defilement.
He noted that mechanisms had already been put in place to ensure the swift reporting and arrest of perpetrators.
Mr. Ngoma was accompanied by Eastern Province Minister Peter Phiri, Chipata District Commissioner Elida Mwanza, and members of the UPND Provincial Executive.

MIGHTY UPND STILL PARTY OF CHOICE IN WESTERN PROVINCE -Spuki Mulemwa
MIGHTY UPND STILL PARTY OF CHOICE IN WESTERN PROVINCE
————————————————-
27/4/25
The ruling UPND still remains the party of choice in Western Province due to the visionary pro poor leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, who prioritizes the wellbeing of the people.
Western Province has in the past suffered marginalization due to previous administrations’ lopsided development programming that concentrated mainly along the line rail, sidelining rural areas in the process.
However, this scenario changed significantly when President Hakainde Hichilema came to power after defeating PF in the 2021 polls, as he shared the national cake equitably.
The President has kept the promises he made to the people such as Free Education, which is the best equalizer and investment any administration can give to the youth.
The unprecedented massive recruitment of teachers, healthcare workers and other government wings.
The expanded and increased CDF is a game changer as sufficient resources are made available to the local communities for infrastructure development through devolution to all 156 constituencies countrywide.
Despite the devastating effects of the worst drought in the country’s history, no one died of hunger in Western Province and indeed Zambia as government put in place social security programs as a safety net to mitigate the effects of the devastating drought.
The road network left unattended to by previous administrations such as the Lusaka/Mongu road, which is an important economic road for the movement of people, goods and services is finally receiving a facelift, Nalikwanda road, Katunda/Lukulu road, Kalabo-Sikongo- Angola road are all set to be worked on.
Limulunga/Mongu road, Muoyo road and the first ever dual carriage way from Shopping Mall/Napsa roundabout are all done by the New Dawn Administration.
It’s for these reasons no political party or so called opposition alliance can unseat the mighty UPND in Western Province because President Hichilema has delivered where previous administrations lamentably failed.
The opposition or political alliance know that if elections were held today UPND would defeat and completely white wash them, especially here in Western Province where the people are enjoying the fruits of President Hichilema’s pro poor servant leadership, that prioritizes the wellbeing of the citizens first and foremost.
Incase you missed it, the mighty ruling UPND completely white washed the opposition in previous by elections in Ndanda, Sikongo and Nalikwanda, we are therefore confident of defeating the opposition emphatically in 2026 as UPND is indeed the party of choice in Western Province.

LUNTE PF member of parliament Mutotwe Kafwaya has rubbished claims that the UPND has merely refined cyber laws to protect citizens, arguing that they have repealed a good law initiated by PF, replacing it with a bad one.
Yesterday, State House Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka said the cyber laws were initially enacted by the PF in 2021, and the UPND administration had just refined them to ensure more protection for citizens.
Commenting on the matter in an interview, Saturday, Kafwaya said UPND had repealed a good law and replaced it with a bad one.
“I am sorry, I am the one who promoted the Cyber Security and Cyber Act of 2021. I am the one who promoted it, and I am the one who took it to Cabinet, and I am the one who defended it at Cabinet level. I am the one who defended it in Parliament.
That is my law, I am actually the one who operationalised it, it was good law despite being labelled by the UPND. What the UPND has done is to repeal a good law and bring bad laws. When we enacted those laws, the American government did not comment in the manner they had commented on this one,” Kafwaya said.
“Why didn’t the American government do that? [They] didn’t see that law as bad as this one to such an extent that they warned their citizens who may consider travelling to Zambia for tourism or investment. Have you ever seen this in the past? I am sorry, I do not agree with whatever that person is saying. If you refine something, you make it better. Has the law been made better? It’s been made worse. This is so because the UPND is a deceptive government. Didn’t they deceive Zambians that the mealie meal will be K50? How much is it? Did they not deceive people that fuel will be cheaper? What is the price? Did they not deceive Zambians that fertiliser will be cheaper? How much is it? Did they not deceive that Zambia will be more united? Is it more united now?…I see a government that is deceptive. I might be wrong, but that is what I see”.
Kafwaya said government’s intention is not to protect the citizens, but to gag them.
“So, when you protect people, people must feel safe. Why would you say I am protecting you, and the person you are protecting is protesting your protection? I have a problem with anybody thinking they are protecting you and you are protesting the measure of that protection. If you, my friend, have been summoned by the police for a cyber-offence and properly summoned with a call out, why should the police say do not tell anyone, and if you tell anyone, it’s an offence? Just for telling somebody, you will go to jail.
Why should the police have secret investigations? Does that tie into what HH said when he told law enforcement agencies to work quietly? So, why should you remove accountability and transparency in the process of protecting people? Why shouldn’t people be free to discuss issues that affect them on the platform that is available for them to discuss those matters, and you call that protection?” asked Kafwaya.
“On the other hand, the Constitution guarantees those same people the right to have that communication because they have that freedom, freedom of communication, but that is what you are curtailing, and when you curtail that, you even want to use secret measures so that people do not know that you have actually inflicted pain on a suspect, I’m sorry that when you protect people, you should be proud, and people should be proud of your protection. So, for me, what the government should be asking itself is why are people protesting against what the government thinks is protection, that is not protection, it is gagging and gagging for selfish reasons on the part of the government”.

LUNDAZI COUNCIL CHAIR AND PF COUNCILLORS ENDORSE PRESIDENT HICHILEMA FOR 2026 ELECTIONS.
Lundazi Town Council Chairperson Golden Tembo, along with five Patriotic Front (PF) councillors including Lumezi Vice Council Chairperson Blastone Ngoma have endorsed the candidature of President Hakainde Hichilema for the 2026 general elections.
Mr. Tembo stated that the district has experienced notable development under the UPND government.
He also urged the people of Lumezi to vote for a candidate from the ruling party in the upcoming parliamentary by-election.
Ward councillors, including Kazembe Ward Councillor Emmanuel Miti, said their wards have seen significant improvements due to the increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
They added that there is nothing in the opposition that would make them turn away from the progress brought by the Hakainde Hichilema-led government.
Meanwhile, UPND Provincial Chairperson Peter Phiri invited other councillors to support the developmental agenda of the ruling party.
He emphasized that elected leaders should prioritize serving the people who elected them, rather than maintaining loyalty to political parties.

Vedanta Resources’ Promises and Contradictions in Financing Konkola Copper Mines
Vedanta’s Commitments to Regain Control of KCM
Settlement of Debts and Legal Obligations
To resolve the legal dispute with Zambia’s government, Vedanta agreed to:
• Pay $250 million to settle KCM’s outstanding debts to local creditors and suppliers, as mandated by a Zambian court.
• Invest $1 billion over five years to modernize infrastructure, expand production, and improve working conditions.
• Increase worker salaries by 20% and provide a one-time payment of $121 to all employees.
• Allocate $20 million annually to community development through a trust fund for healthcare, education, and local infrastructure.
These commitments were framed as part of Vedanta’s “responsibility to Zambia” and its intention to “unlock KCM’s full potential” through self-funded investments.
Shift to Debt Financing: Contradictions and Implications
From Internal Funding to External Debt
Despite pledging to use internal resources, Vedanta has sought $1 billion in debt financing since early 2025 to fund KCM’s expansion. This pivot contradicts its original assurances in three key ways:
1. Broken Promises of Self-Sufficiency: Vedanta’s CEO, Chris Griffith, initially claimed the company would fund KCM’s development through “internal accruals” and equity. However, by 2025, the company admitted that raising debt was “a much higher likelihood” than using internal funds or selling equity stakes. This shift suggests Vedanta either overestimated its liquidity or misrepresented its financial capacity during negotiations with Zambia’s government.
2. Debt Overhang and Sustainability Risks: Vedanta Resources’ parent company already carries significant debt, with ongoing refinancing needs. Adding new debt for KCM raises concerns about:
• Debt servicing priorities overshadowing community and worker commitments.
• Reduced flexibility to address unforeseen operational challenges.
3. Equity Sale Failures and Valuation Disputes: Vedanta attempted to sell a stake in KCM but failed due to disagreements over asset valuation. This forced the company to rely on debt markets, undermining its earlier stance that equity dilution was undesirable.
Implications for Zambia’s Stakeholders
Economic and Social Risks
1. Worker and Community Concerns: Vedanta’s debt-driven strategy could jeopardize its pledges to workers and communities. For example:
• The promised 20% salary increase and community trust fund depend on consistent cash flow, which may be diverted to debt repayment.
• Historical precedents highlight Vedanta’s past failures to meet financial obligations.
2. Zambia’s Economic Exposure: As a stakeholder in KCM, Zambia’s government faces indirect risks from Vedanta’s leverage. A debt-laden KCM could:
• Limit dividends to state-owned entities, reducing public revenue.
• Undermine Zambia’s economic recovery plans.
3. Reputational and Legal Repercussions: Vedanta’s reliance on debt has reignited criticism of its “resource extractivism” in Zambia, with watchdogs accusing the company of prioritizing investor returns over local development. The Zambian government now faces scrutiny for enabling this financial maneuver.
Risk of Asset Loss: Default and Collateral
Beyond these immediate fiscal impacts, leveraging KCM’s assets as collateral for large-scale debt facilities introduces a much deeper risk: the potential loss of the mine and its assets if the company defaults on its obligations. When KCM takes on substantial debt, its assets-including equipment, mineral rights, and infrastructure-can be pledged as security to lenders. If KCM fails to meet its repayment obligations, creditors may seek legal remedies to recover their funds. This could include court-ordered asset seizures, as has already occurred in recent disputes over unpaid debts. In such a scenario, Zambia’s government could lose not only its revenue stream from the mine but also its strategic influence over the asset, undermining national economic interests and long-term development goals.
This risk is particularly acute given KCM’s history of accumulating large debts to local utilities and suppliers, as well as ongoing legal disputes over unpaid bills. The pattern of asset seizures and creditor actions underscores the fragility of Zambia’s stake in KCM when the mine is heavily leveraged. In summary, while leveraging KCM may provide short-term capital for expansion, it exposes Zambia to the real danger of losing the mine and its assets if the company is unable to service its debts.
Conclusion: A High-Stakes Balancing Act
Vedanta’s debt financing strategy exposes a stark contradiction: the company’s pledges to revitalize KCM through self-funded investments have given way to a high-risk reliance on external borrowing. While this approach may expedite production growth in the short term, it introduces systemic risks for Zambia’s economy and KCM’s stakeholders. For Vedanta, the challenge lies in reconciling its financial ambitions with its social commitments-a balance that will determine whether KCM becomes a catalyst for sustainable development or a cautionary tale of corporate overreach.
The Zambian government must strengthen oversight mechanisms to ensure Vedanta’s debt does not compromise worker welfare, community investments, or national revenue targets. Without transparency and accountability, the return of KCM to Vedanta risks perpetuating cycles of resource exploitation that have long plagued Zambia’s mining sector.
