UPND must only be replaced by a crop of politicians that is not tainted – Kalaba

‎UPND must only be replaced by a crop of politicians that is not tainted – Kalaba

‎”How do you come to me to say we field one candidate but you want to impose that candidate on me, on CF, without us even sitting to deliberate?” Kalaba said.

“Opposition unity must be founded in the desire to improve Zambian lives as opposed to just being motivated with removing UPND from office. Yes, UPND is a failed project that must be removed.

But in doing so they need to be replaced by a crop of people that is not tainted or only motivated by the desire of taking over power in order for the ruling party officials and their cronies to continue engaging in tenderpreneurship and feasting on government projects.”

On the UPND administration, Kalaba said ‎they had lost popularity on account of unfulfilled promises, with the country enduring the highest cost of living now because of high fuel prices, high fertilizer prices, farmers still unpaid and the stop gap measures they were now undertaking to reduce loadshedding motivated by the desire to hoodwink Zambians to win the elections.

POLICY, POPULISM AND THE LIMITS OF POLITICAL IMAGINATION

🇿🇲 VIEWPOINT | POLICY, POPULISM AND THE LIMITS OF POLITICAL IMAGINATION

The 3rd Liberation Movement (3rd-LM) has thrust itself into national debate with two headline-grabbing proposals: banning men from working as midwives and capping the price of a 25kg bag of mealie meal at K50. Both positions, articulated by party president Enock Roosevelt Tonga, have triggered strong reactions online and raised broader questions about policy seriousness, constitutional limits, and economic literacy in Zambia’s opposition space.

On healthcare, Mr Tonga argues that midwifery should be an exclusively female profession, proposing prison sentences of up to 20 years for men who practise as midwives. His justification rests largely on cultural interpretation of the word “midwife” and moral discomfort with male practitioners attending to women during childbirth. What this position overlooks is that midwifery in Zambia is a regulated medical profession governed by training standards, ethics, and professional councils, not cultural semantics.

Male nurses and midwives are legally trained, certified, and deployed in line with national health needs, particularly in rural areas where staffing shortages are acute.

A blanket ban would immediately conflict with constitutional protections against discrimination, undermine public health delivery, and worsen an already strained health system. It also ignores the reality that professional conduct in healthcare is governed by law, not gender.

On the economy, the proposed K50 price cap on mealie meal is framed as a pro-poor intervention that would allegedly protect households from rising food costs while preserving the free market. The tension is obvious. Price controls of this nature have historically required heavy state subsidies, guaranteed grain supply, and fiscal buffers to avoid market distortions. Without these, such controls risk miller withdrawal, shortages, parallel markets, or unsustainable pressure on the treasury. .

Zambia’s own history offers clear lessons. Past attempts at administratively fixing prices without corresponding fiscal capacity have resulted in delayed payments, miller exits, and supply disruptions. The proposal, as presented, does not explain how millers would absorb costs, how subsidies would be financed, or how inflationary pressures would be contained

The backlash online is therefore less about ideology and more about feasibility. Voters are increasingly interrogating how policies would be implemented, funded, and aligned with existing laws. In this context, the 3rd-LM manifesto has been described by critics as socially regressive on gender and economically simplistic on food pricing.

Supporters, however, see it as bold and unapologetically populist, aimed at tapping into real frustrations around the cost of living and cultural anxieties.

What this episode ultimately exposes is a wider challenge facing Zambia’s opposition politics ahead of 2026. There is growing demand for policy depth rather than slogans, for solutions grounded in constitutionalism, economics, and contemporary social realities. Populist instincts may mobilise attention, but governance requires coherence, legality, and fiscal realism.

The debate sparked by the 3rd-LM is therefore useful, not because the proposals are likely to be adopted, but because they force a national conversation about what serious leadership looks like in a modern Zambia. In an era of complex economic recovery, healthcare staffing shortages, and constitutional safeguards, policies rooted in exclusion or price decree invite scrutiny.

This scrutiny, in itself, is a sign of an alert electorate.

Operation Dudula Warns South African Citizens Against Attending Bushiri’s Crossover Service in Malawi

A South African civic organisation, the Operation Dudula SA Movement, has urged citizens to reconsider travelling to Malawi for Prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s upcoming crossover service scheduled to take place in Lilongwe.

In a statement shared on its Facebook page, the movement said its warning is based on ongoing allegations by South African authorities that the preacher was involved in defrauding some of his followers. Despite these accusations, the group noted that some South Africans are reportedly still making plans to attend the event.

“Some South Africans are reportedly flocking to attend the ceremony of Prophet Bushiri, a man accused of stealing from followers,” the post read. “What do you really want from someone with that kind of record—blessings, miracles, or just a spectacle? Think carefully before you follow blindly.”

Operation Dudula said it finds the situation concerning, given the seriousness of the allegations hanging over the prophet. The movement questioned what motivates followers to seek spiritual guidance from a religious leader surrounded by controversy and legal challenges.

The group has called on the public to pause and reflect before travelling for the service, urging people not to follow religious figures blindly but to make informed and responsible decisions.

He said, “A lot of people, especially my friends, are still asking where I’ve been and why I disappeared, not just online, but in life too.

It got to a time when everything felt too loud, and I just couldn’t keep up anymore. The things that used to bring me joy started to feel heavy, and even the simplest moments lost their spark. It wasn’t just social media I fell out of love with… it was life itself. A lot of things lost meaning, and each day after just hurried by in a blur, leaving me behind.

So I stepped away, to breathe, to remember who I was beneath all the noise. I took a pause long enough to feel alive again. Slowly, I am finding pieces of myself again, in small joys, in honest conversations, and most especially in the quiet moments.

So forgive me if you felt like I disappeared on you. I did it on myself too. I am learning to fall back in love with life, with peace, and showing up even when it feels like a struggle, so this one is a cheers to everyone who’s ever gone through days like this and to taking it all one day at a time.”

I want you to LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH, MAKE BABIES, and be HAPPY!

And yes! These are some of the last nice photos I took. Wouldn’t it be nice to hoard them, yeah?

I love you, Nene, Mary, Israel, Wadi, and Roy. I would choose you all to be my family over and over and over and over again. You made this journey of life better (with love and kiss emojis)

Kenya’s President William Ruto hands over 4,536 houses in his affordable housing programme in Nairobi

President William Ruto has officially handed over 4,536 housing units in Nairobi under the government’s affordable housing programme

The ceremony, held in Nairobi, marks one of the largest single deliveries of homes under the programmewhich is part of the administration’s broader Big Four Agenda on housing.

President Ruto described the handover as a major milestone, saying the homes will improve quality of life for thousands of families and contribute to broader economic development.

He urged beneficiaries to take pride in their new homes and emphasised the government’s commitment to addressing long-standing challenges in the housing sector.

The affordable housing initiative targets construction of tens of thousands of units across Kenya.

It focuses on urban areas where housing shortages and high rental costs have made decent accommodation out of reach for many workers and young families.

The units handed over in Nairobi were financed through a mix of government support, private partnerships and housing finance mechanisms designed to make payments accessible.

The handover comes amid ongoing national debate about housing policy, urban planning, and the real impact of large-scale development projects on ordinary Kenyans.

Supporters of the programme say it represents a tangible achievement in tackling a chronic housing deficit.

The government says future phases will continue alongside improvements in transportation, utilities and neighbourhood services.

CHIPOLOPOLO LEAVE RABAT FOR LUSAKA AFTER AFCON ELIMINATION

CHIPOLOPOLO LEAVE RABAT FOR LUSAKA AFTER AFCON ELIMINATION

Chipolopolo head coach Moses Sichone says Zambia gave hosts Morocco too much respect and paid the price in a 3-0 defeat in their final AFCON Group A match.

Morocco struck early in the 9th minute when Ayoub El Kaabi finished from close range after a set piece delivered by Azzedine Ounahi.

The Copper Bullets struggled to handle the pressure from the Atlas Lions and were punished again in the 27th minute. Brahim Diaz made it 2-0 and gave Morocco a comfortable lead just before halftime.

After the break, Morocco stayed in control as the Atlas Lions dominated possession, created more chances, and dictated the tempo.

El Kaabi then sealed the win in the 50th minute with an overhead kick, completing his brace and making it 3-0.

The result confirmed Zambia’s exit from AFCON 2025.

The Copper Bullets finished the group stage with two points.

“We gave Morocco too much respect and also some players were a little bit nervous. I must congratulate Morocco; they had put in all the pressure.” said Sichone during his post – match press conference.

Sichone admitted the performance made it difficult to find words.

“It’s unfortunate and hard to find the words after this performance…at least second half looked better but it was too late.” He said.

Despite the AFCON exit, Sichone remained positive about the young players he brought into the squad.

Meanwhile, the Chipolopolo Boys left Rabat this morning en route to Lusaka.

Judge reduces man’s jail time because “he is black and was feeling intense pressure” the time he s3xually assaulted two women in Canada

A Nigerian man who s3xually assaulted two women has been sentenced to just two years in prison in Canada because he is black and was feeling intense pressure around the time of the attacks, the judge said.

Omogbolahan Jegede, 25, a former university football player, had choked one of the women almost into unconsciousness.

The sentence has reignited a national debate over whether personal background should mitigate accountability for serious crimes.

“It should be noted that but, for the contents of the Impact of Race and Culture Assessment (IRCA), the pre-sentence report and all the mitigating factors surrounding Omogbolahan (Teddy) Jegede, this sentence would have been much higher,” Justice Frank Hoskins said in his Nova Scotia Supreme Court decision.

The women were attacked in residences at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, N.S., in 2022 and 2023.

One woman testified that Jegede choked her; one woman was forced to perform oral s3x. Both women said they were physically dominated by Jegede, who is much larger than they are.

The author of an Impact of Race and Culture Assessment, a report funded under a new initiative from the Trudeau Liberals, wrote that Jegede was feeling intense pressure around the time of the assaults and did not have culturally appropriate support to turn to.

Jegede was convicted in a jury trial this year and sentenced last Wednesday.

Justice Hoskins added three years of probation, although he said that term could be shortened if Jegede makes significant progress in counselling.

The Crown had requested a sentence of up to 36 months, while defence counsel asked the judge to consider a conditional sentence to be served in the community.

In my view, this is a case where the need for denunciation is so pressing the incarceration is the only civil way in which to express society’s condemnation of Mr. Jegede’s conduct,” said Justice Hoskins.

The judge noted that Jegede came from a strong, church-going family with strict parents who had stable professional careers. Jegede did well in school and excelled in sports, showing leadership capabilities. He told the court he grew up feeling loved by his supported family.

Later he began a degree in kinetics at St. FX, though those studies were interrupted by his crimes and subsequent charges. Nonetheless, he expressed interest in completing his degree and pursuing a masters, Justice Hoskins said.

He noted that Jegede was born in Lagos, Nigeria. He moved with his family to Canada in 2010. They lived first in Brampton, Ont., and then moved west to Fort McMurray, Alta.

His mother said the transition to Canada was a significant adjustment for the family, and said their youngest son “experienced bullying in elementary school due to his accent and racial identity as a black child.”

The IRCA writer looked at this kind of cultural factor, outlining declines in Jegede’s course performance and mental health in his second and third years at St. FX.

Jegede told the writer that he struggled with a sense of isolation being a black man in predominantly white university town.

“I grew up around black people in Brampton and Fort McMurray. Many of them were immigrants, which allowed us to relate to each other on many levels, especially culture. It was like that until I moved to Antigonish to attend university.”

Reading from the IRCA, Justice Hoskins said: “The absence of adult mentors or role models further exacerbated Mr. Jegede’s vulnerability. His parents had hoped his football coach would provide guidance, but this need went unmet.”

Hoskins said the IRCA “provided valuable insight. It has provided me with an understanding of Mr. Jegede’s background from a social, cultural perspective.”

However, he also circled back to the ” two very serious sexual assault and offences against two different victims at the same school, in similar circumstances, approximately five months apart, which is concerning, because it suggests that Mr. Jegede may be dangerous … In other words, this is not an isolated incident involving one victim, the nature of both offences and their immediate lasting consequences make them very serious offences.”

Hoskins went on to note that the “primary aggravating factor, in this case, is the violence and serious evasive nature of the s3xual assaults, particularly the offence involving (one of the victims), where she was forced to provide Mr. Jegede oral s3x, while her movements were being forcefully controlled by (him).”

He responded in a vehement tone to defence counsel’s suggestion that a conditional sentence served in the community would be appropriate.

“I’m in the view that I cannot exclude a federal period of incarceration as a fit and proper punishment for these offences.” (A federal sentence is at least two years; a shorter term would be in a provincial jail.)

Hoskins arrived at two years by determining 18 months for the more violent and invasive of the two s3xual assaults and six months for the other.

He tacked on three years probation, rather than more prison time, because he saw Jegede as having potential to turn himself around.

He noted Jegede is only 25 and has significant family and community support

He even expressed support for early parole: “I think Mr. Jegede will be a really good candidate for probably early parole given everything I’ve read. There’s no question about that.”

The use of IRCAs is relatively new. Their use has arisen from an initiative begun under the Justin Trudeau Liberals.

In April 2021, David Lametti, former minister of justice, announced funding of $6.64 million over five years, followed by $1.6 million annually to implement IRCAs across Canada. “IRCAs are pre-sentencing reports that help sentencing judges to better understand the effect of poverty, marginalization, racism, and social exclusion on the offender and their life experience,” the justice department stated in a 2021 press release. “IRCAs explain how the offenders lived experiences of racism and discrimination inform the circumstances of the offender, the offence committed, and the offender’s experience with the justice system.”

CHINA’S MESSAGE TO AMERICA: STOP ARMING TAIWAN OR ELSE

CHINA’S MESSAGE TO AMERICA: STOP ARMING TAIWAN OR ELSE

China launched its largest military exercises around Taiwan yesterday in response to Trump’s $11 billion arms sale to the island.

Beijing is making it clear they’re not thrilled about American weapons flowing to Taiwan.

The drills, called “Justice Mission 2025,” involve naval and air forces practicing how to blockade the island.

On day 2, China launched missiles and deployed fighter jets and warships in live-fire exercises targeting Taiwan’s key ports.

Chinese state media spelled out the goal: cut off Taiwan from outside help and make sure “external aid can’t get in.”

That’s aimed directly at the United States.

Trump approved the massive weapons package in mid-December.

Beijing retaliated by sanctioning 20 U.S. defense companies and 10 executives.

Now they’re flexing military muscles to drive the point home.

Asked about the exercises yesterday, Trump downplayed the threat of a potential invasion:

“I have a great relationship with President Xi, and he hasn’t told me anything about it.

I don’t believe he’s going to be doing it.”

Trump claims Xi promised not to invade Taiwan during his presidency.

That’s convenient, but it also means American credibility is now tied to that assurance holding up.

The US sells weapons to Taiwan but maintains “strategic ambiguity” about whether American forces would actually defend the island if China attacks.

China just reminded everyone what happens when Washington arms Taipei: they practice taking it by force.

Trump spreading MAGA ‘personality cult’ across the world with one key change

0

Donald Trump is pushing the MAGA “personality cult” across the world with one key change, according to a political analysist.

CNN correspondent Stephen Collinson believes the Trump administration has been all too obvious with their spread of MAGA beliefs on the world stage. The president, he argues, “doesn’t bother with pretense” when it comes to sharing what he believes is the best course of action in world politics.

Collinson wrote, “Most presidents profess not to interfere in other countries’ domestic politics and elections — despite decades of nefarious US political game-playing abroad. President Donald Trump doesn’t bother with the pretense.”

“A leader who transformed the Republican Party into a partial personality cult and whose every life experience seems to involve the flexing of leverage doesn’t stop at the water’s edge.”

The columnist would go on to suggest countries where the Trump name is popular is where he can best exhibit his “great political influence”. Collinson shared, “In his second term, Trump is acting as the global head of a nationalist political movement, seeking to shape partisan politics in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Honduras, South Korea, Venezuela, South Africa and across the Atlantic.”

“In most cases, Trump promoted leaders and candidates who favor his populist nationalism, those who flatter him, or who face legal battles that mirror his own.”

“On Monday, he plunged yet again into the politics of Israel, where he is highly popular and thus enjoys great political influence ahead of a general election expected next year.”

Trump has pushed back on what is expected of a sitting president when it comes to world politics, Collinson argues, by being so hands on with countries and their elections.

He wrote, “American presidents have traditionally balked at being seen to overtly interfere in the politics of foreign nations. To start with, it’s bad manners. And few presidents would enjoy the favor being returned to help their political opponents.”

“The Trump administration, however, rarely stops trying to shape foreign politics for its own gain. Last week, for instance, Honduras announced that the conservative National Party candidate Nasry Asfura had won a tight presidential election.”

“Trump had warned there’d be “hell to pay” if Asfura didn’t emerge from a prolonged counting process as the winner. Trump has repeatedly sought to use US power to shape the politics of the Western Hemisphere in his populist image.”

SOUTH AFRICA TOPS THE RANK AS THE MOST ‘GENEROUS COUNTRY ‘ IN THE WORLD

South Africa has been crowned the world’s most generous country, according to a recent study by Remitly, a digital financial services provider. The study, which assessed over 4,500 people across 25 countries, measured generosity beyond financial giving, focusing on broader human behaviors like empathy, emotional support, patience, kindness, and willingness to put others first.

With an impressive average score of 51.57 out of 60, South Africa took the top spot, followed closely by the Philippines (50.2) and the United States (49.23). The study highlights that South Africans strongly identify with statements emphasizing the value of others’ happiness and community-centered behavior.

What Makes South Africa So Generous?

The study suggests that South Africa’s strong culture of community and social responsibility contributes to its top ranking. The concept of “ubuntu,” which emphasizes human interconnectedness and community, is deeply ingrained in South African society.

‘Insecure and afraid’: Trump’s niece says president is overwhelmed by second term

0

Donald Trump’s niece has suggested the president is “insecure and afraid” and has been for much of his second term in the White House.

Mary Trump believes the frequent changes in government and administration blunders from cabinet members has caused strain on the president, who is now coming apart. In a video uploaded to her YouTube channel, Mary Trump claimed Trump is a “terrible leader” whose insecurities are now making him a “dangerous” president.

She said, “It goes without saying that Donald is a terrible leader, but one of the things that makes him a dangerous one is his incredible insecurity. What seems to be happening is that he’s becoming more and more insecure over time. It seems the more he gets of what he thinks he wants, money, power, chaos, the more insecure and afraid he becomes.”

“It’s dangerous but it’s also extremely embarrassing to have as the head of our country someone who is so thirsty and easily manipulated.” Mary Trump would use the Kennedy Center Honors as evidence of this, moving the ceremony from “prestige and gravitas” to “cheap, partisan, dry husk of what it used to be.”

Trump’s niece suggested the “hostile takeover” of the Kennedy Center is part of a bigger plan from Trump. She said, “The president is supposed to sit in the audience with the honorees, that’s it. Donald also said, ‘I don’t know why I’m doing this’, well he’s doing this because he needs the attention and because he doesn’t have anything better to do, quite frankly.”

“He wasn’t joking then, either, about calling it the Trump Kennedy Center honor, though I think he misspoke. If you seriously think he’s going to keep the name Kennedy in the title, you would be sorely mistaken.”

Mary Trump also noted changes to the Institute of Peace in Washington D.C. as an example of Trump placing his name on government buildings. She said, “The Trump regime is actually trying to dismantle the Institute of Peace. He still really wants that Nobel Peace Prize, I’m sure the FIFA Peace Prize was a consolation to him, but it’s no Nobel Peace Prize.”

“Perhaps renaming the Institute of Peace after himself will trick the Nobel committee into thinking that Donald actually cares about peace, which he does not.”

Cardi B Claps Back At People Mocking Her For Leaving Cheating Offset for Diggs with Multiple Baby Mamas

Cardi B has directly addressed relationship experts’ concerns over her recent choices following her split from Offset.

Their relationship ended after Cardi B revealed Offset’s ongoing infidelity, including during her pregnancy.

She thought her husband would change, but after some time, Offset was doing it over and over, so she filed for a divorce.

They had 3 kids together, and their names are

Kulture Kiari Cephus, born in 2018 (age 7 as of late 2025).

Wave Set Cephus, born in 2021 (age 4 as of late 2025)

Blossom, a daughter, was born in September 2024 (around 15 months old as of late 2025)

Their divorce is yet to be finalised completely, but they are no longer together.

The female rapper left her cheating husband for another man, and surprisingly, their divorce is not finalised; she was already carrying the baby of another man.

Stefon Diggs came into the picture after the chaos between Offset and Cardi B heated up.

He is a popular NFL player with two different Baby Mamas aside from Cardi B ( each has one child of his). His first Baby mama, whose identity is kept private, had a kid (Nova) with Diggs in 2016.

Charliee Harper Diggs-Lopera was welcomed in April 2025 by Steffon and Instagram Model Aileen Lopera.

In November 2025, the professional American footballer and Cardi B had their first child together, and that makes Cardi B his third baby Mama.

There are two other baby mamas whose identities are yet to be revealed by reliable sources.

With how Steffon Diggs is having babies with different women, people started criticizing Cardi for leaving Offset because he cheats, for a man who is not loyal to one woman.

Cardi B responded to all her critics, stating that whatever happened in the past should be in the past because she just had a baby with Diggs, and she is not leaving him for anyone, regardless of what the public says.

The rapper cautioned everyone to mind their business as it is her life, and she will do whatever she wishes without public validation.

Harry Kalaba is a baby in politics, we need to buy him lollipops for New Year – Cornelius Mweetwa

Kalaba is a baby in politics, we need to buy him lollipops for New Year – Mweetwa

CHIEF Government spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa says Citizens First leader Harry Kalaba is a political toddler who is still doing ‘nursery school politics’ and deserves lollipops for the New Year.

Mweetwa was reacting to Kalaba’s recent remarks in which he described the government spokesperson as a joker who should not be taken seriously by the nation..

But Mweetwa said he was no joker, insisting that everything he communicates to the public is done under the delegated authority of President Hakainde Hichilema and should be treated as serious national business.

“I am not a joker. What I do, I do on the basis of delegated authority from President Hakainde Hichilema, and what I tell the nation is serious business,” Mweetwa said.

The outspoken minister said he would not engage further with Kalaba, whom he described as still learning the basics of politics.

“I will not respond further to my brother, Honourable Kalaba, because he is still doing politics in a nursery school,” Mweetwa said.

“So my message to him is: Happy New Year, my brother. Keep learning politics. Maybe one day you will understand certain things. For now, you need lollipops for the New Year.”

Mweetwa said government remained focused on delivering development and telling the truth to Zambians.

He explained that transparency, confidence and audacity had defined the Patriotic Front’s successor administration.

The minister said 2025 would go down as a year that ended on a high note for government because President Hichilema had reset the economic history of the country from what he described as a deplorable state.

“This is why many credible local and international individuals continue to give a thumbs-up to the presidency,” said Mweetwa.

‎WE’LL SHAME UPND IN CHAWAMA – KALABA
‎… they are smearing us with filth because they can’t stand our rise

‎‎By Mubanga Mubanga

‎Citizens First (CF) leader Harry Kalaba says his party shall shame its doubters in the UPND and those in the opposition who want to discredit them by saying they don’t want to work with fellow opposition parties, in the Chawama parliamentary by-election.

‎And Kalaba said while UPND is a failed project, they must be replaced by a crop of people that is not tainted, or only motivated by the desire of taking over power in order for the ruling party officials and their cronies to continue engaging in tenderpreneurship and feasting on government projects.”

‎Kalaba also said opposition unity must be born out of respect for each participating party, not a situation where people wanted to impose a candidate in a by-election without even having to sit down with him first.

‎Speaking in an interview with Daily Revelation yesterday, Kalaba said Chawama will be a building block on the ward by-election victory

THE PEOPLE DESERVE BETTER: A RESPONSE TO DR NEVERS MUMBA

THE PEOPLE DESERVE BETTER: A RESPONSE TO DR NEVERS MUMBA

By Chishala Kateka – New Heritage Party pPresident

29 December 2025

Dr Nevers Mumba has accused me of misrepresenting his words, of distorting his intentions, and of weaponising identity in the service of political gain.

Far be it from me to do so.  I write not to indulge in personal quarrels, but to clarify the record, to defend the right of the people to question power, and to remind Dr Mumba of the very principles he once championed, principles he now appears to have abandoned in favour of political expediency.

When Dr Mumba assumed the presidency of the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD), he declared with conviction: “Hope is generated by a promise, but the execution of that promise is anchored on the morality and integrity of the one who made the promise.”
He warned that “the August 12th 2021 election will be a pointless exercise if we, as a people, don’t first identify the NATIONAL PROBLEM we currently face.”  He called for a new national vision, one that would restore trust in leadership and elevate the moral tone of our politics.

Yet today, in the twilight of 2025, Dr Mumba has not only endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema for the 2026 elections, but has also declared, in his own words, “I’ve positioned myself to ensure HH’s victory in 2026, running mate or not” (Prime TV, Matters Arising, 5 April 2025).  He has stood at the UPND Secretariat and urged civil society and the Church to “rally behind the President’s call for constitutional amendments” (Zambian Observer, 1 April 2025).  He has publicly stated that he “will not contest the 2026 general elections” and instead will “endorse President Hakainde Hichilema to retain his position” (Daily Revelation, 2 April 2025).

These are not the declarations of a neutral statesman.  They are the pronouncements of a partisan ally and that is his prerogative.  But what he cannot do, what he must not do, is pretend that his words are untainted by allegiance.  When he speaks of constitutional reform, he does so not as an impartial observer, but as a man who has tethered his political future to the success of the very administration he now defends.

Let us look at Dr Mumba’s claims that I have twisted his statement on Bill 7.  He insists that his intention was merely to highlight the “deep and long-standing mistrust between political players” and yet in the same breath, he castigates the public for “reckless emotionalism,” “witch-hunting,” and “lowering the quality of civic debate.”  These are not the words of a man seeking dialogue, they are the words of a man seeking to delegitimise dissent.  They are the words of a man who, having once stood with the people, now stands above them.

He accuses me of reframing our disagreement as a gender issue.  But I did not invent the language of condescension, I merely recognised it.  When a woman raises her voice in defence of constitutional integrity and is met with accusations of hysteria, it is not unreasonable to question the gendered assumptions at play.  I did not claim that disagreement with a woman is misogyny, I claimed that the tone and tenor of his rebuke echoed a long history of dismissing women’s political agency as emotional excess.  That is not a distortion, it is a diagnosis.

Dr Mumba further suggests that I oppose reforms that would increase women’s representation.  This is a falsehood; I support genuine inclusion but I will not be complicit in the use of gender as a political shield for procedural malpractice.  The people have asked why the Electoral Commission’s revised delimitation report remains hidden.  They have asked why the number of elected Members of Parliament has ballooned from 156 to 226 without consultation, justification, or transparency.  These are not the questions of a mob.  They are the questions of a Republic that remembers what democracy is supposed to look like.

Dr Mumba once said, “We must not only do what is right, but we must be seen to be doing it right.”  I absolutely agree with him on this score.  I ask him now, in all honesty and before his God: is it right to endorse a constitutional amendment process that has unfolded in the shadows?  Is it right to rebuke the people for asking questions that those in power refuse to answer?  Is it right to invoke Scripture to chastise the governed while standing shoulder to shoulder with those who govern but do not accord to the right due process?

I do not fear debate. I also welcome it but as we debate, I urge that our debate be honest, be free of pretence and let it be worthy of the people we claim to serve

Zambia does not belong to the UPND, it does not belong to Dr Mumba’s party or to New Heritage Party.  It does not belong to those who sit in State House or to those who orbit its power.  It belongs to the people and the people are not unruly, they are not emotional nor are they are not ignorant.  They are awake, they are watching and they will not be silenced.

WHEN OBEDIENCE BECOMES COMPLICITY

WHEN OBEDIENCE BECOMES COMPLICITY

By Brian Matambo | Sandton, South Africa

On Monday evening, I received a call from my friend based in the United States. He is Zambian, deeply patriotic, and increasingly concerned about the state of our nation. What began as a casual check-in quickly turned into an uncomfortable but necessary conversation, one that forced both of us to confront difficult truths about law, citizenship, courage, and silence.

The heart of our discussion revolved around a deceptively simple question: what does it truly mean to be a good citizen?

For many, the answer seems obvious. Obey the law. Respect institutions. Trust the courts. Wait patiently for processes to conclude. Yet history warns us against such simplicity. Apartheid was legal. Colonial rule was legal. Slavery was legal. Each of these systems was defended by men who insisted they were merely respecting the law of the day.

Laws, we agreed, are not inherently moral. They are tools. They can protect the people or suppress them. Democracy does not always collapse through tanks on the streets or soldiers at the radio station. More often, it erodes quietly through injunctions, selective enforcement, procedural delays, and the gradual exhaustion of resistance.

In Zambia today, legality is frequently invoked as a shield against criticism. Court cases are cited. Injunctions are issued. Procedures are followed, at least on paper. But the lived experience of citizens tells a more troubling story. Laws appear flexible for those aligned with power and rigid for those who challenge it. Opposition figures are detained, restricted, or neutralised, while others operate with remarkable freedom.

This is where our conversation grew tense. At what point does obedience to the law stop being civic responsibility and become complicity?.

If laws are used to discipline citizens rather than serve them, can compliance still be called virtue? Or does it become participation in injustice?

We spoke about recent examples that refuse to fade from the national memory. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, stripped of political eligibility through legal manoeuvres rather than democratic contest. Munir Zulu in prison even after his sentence came to an end. Raphael Nakacinda detained. Each case justified by procedure, each defended as lawful. Yet taken together, they reveal a pattern that cannot be dismissed as coincidence.

What troubled us even more was not only what had happened, but what had not happened. The silence. The absence of mass resistance. The millions who complain privately but remain invisible when courage is required. Patriotism, it seems, has become something we speak about rather than practise.

My friend challenged me, and in doing so challenged many of us who speak, write, and analyse from relative safety. Must resistance always lead to arrest? Is imprisonment the only proof of patriotism? Or have we redefined patriotism so narrowly that it now excludes strategic restraint, intellectual resistance, and long-term organising?

There is no easy answer. Not everyone can march. Not everyone can be arrested. Resistance takes many forms. Writing, speaking, organising, funding, shielding others. But resistance that carries no risk at all eventually becomes theatre. It comforts the speaker more than it challenges power.

As we spoke, the conversation returned repeatedly to the cost of leadership. Two weeks earlier, Makebi Zulu had been involved in a serious road traffic accident. He survived a near-fatal incident. Days later, he issued a calm, measured public statement on Bill 7. No insults. No theatrics. Just clarity. In moments like that, leadership reveals itself not through noise, but through steadiness under pressure.

Beneath our disagreement lay a deeper fear. Time. Elections are approaching. Campaigns cannot be built overnight. Court battles consume months. Confusion paralyses structures. While opposition factions argue over legality and procedure, power consolidates quietly elsewhere.

There comes a moment in every nation when citizens must decide whether they still believe change is possible, or whether they have slowly accepted management in place of democracy. That moment does not arrive with sirens or speeches. It arrives through private conversations like ours. Between friends. Between doubt and conviction. Between fear and resolve.

We did not end the call in agreement. But perhaps that was never the goal. Democracy is not sustained by comfort. It is sustained by tension. By citizens willing to wrestle honestly with the moral cost of obedience and the personal cost of resistance.

History is rarely kind to those who say, “I was just following the law.” It is far kinder to those who asked harder questions while there was still time.

In the end, the law will always demand compliance. Conscience demands more.

Hichilema declares December 29 a public holiday

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has declared December 29 a public holiday to mark the anniversary of Zambia’s declaration as a Christian nation.

The President made the announcement yesterday during the commemoration of the 34th anniversary of the Declaration of Zambia as a Christian Nation, held at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka.

President Hichilema said government would move quickly to formalise the decision and ensure the day is legally recognised as a national holiday by the first quarter of next year.

“We reaffirm our declaration and commitment that Zambia shall remain a Christian nation,” President Hichilema said.

“To consolidate this day and reinforce it, we shall make it a legal position beyond what it is already. By the first quarter of next year, this day will be embedded in our calendar and truly celebrated across the country as a public holiday.”

The Head of State said the holiday would be strategically placed between Christmas and New Year to allow more citizens to participate in the celebrations.

He noted that many people were unable to attend because they were at work.

He called on churches and Christian organisations to work together to strengthen and organise the commemoration.

“The body of Christ must work together to rationalise and consolidate this day so that it sits well between Christmas and New Year. We are just tools of God, used to serve His people,” he said.

The President also led congregants in singing one of his favourite hymns, Ubwite Bwamfumu, as he concluded his address with prayers for the nation.

The event was attended by Vice-President Mutale Nalumango and her husband Max Nalumango, Bread of Life Church International general overseer Bishop Joseph Imakando, and the chairperson of the commemoration committee Billy Mfula, among other church leaders and government officials.

POLICY ANALYST SAYS PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S TELEGRAPH RATING DETACHED FROM EVERYDAY REALITIES

POLICY ANALYST SAYS PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S TELEGRAPH RATING DETACHED FROM EVERYDAY REALITIES

By Nelson Zulu

Policy analyst Dr. Kelvin Chibomba says President Hakainde Hichilema’s recent Telegraph rating among the world’s top leaders seems disconnected from everyday realities, as the impact of recent reforms may only be felt after about five years.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Dr. Chibomba notes that short-term indicators may not capture the lag between policy implementation and tangible improvements in citizens’ livelihoods.

He has highlighted debt restructuring, renewed economic investments, and structural transformations as measures strengthening investor confidence and fiscal discipline but producing no immediate benefits for most households.

Dr. Chibomba explains that the full payoff typically accrues over several years as confidence, credit lines, and private-sector activity deepen and has urged institutionalization of achievements across government, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and sound budgetary practices at all levels.

He has however cautioned against complacency and recommends that government uses positive assessments for public education and policy continuity.

“This Immense Tragedy Casts a Deep Shadow” – President Tinubu Consoles Anthony Joshua Following Fatal Crash

“This Immense Tragedy Casts a Deep Shadow” – Tinubu Consoles Anthony Joshua Following Fatal Crash

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow upon receiving news of the fatal auto accident involving world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua. The tragic incident occurred on Monday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Makun, Ogun State.

Tragedy Strikes

While the boxing star survived with reported minor injuries, the crash claimed the lives of two other individuals. Reports detail that Joshua’s Lexus SUV collided with a stationary truck. Although investigations are ongoing, preliminary findings suggest that high speed and wrongful overtaking may have been contributing factors.

Trainer Confirm Dead

In a heartbreaking development, it has been confirmed that one of the deceased was Joshua’s personal trainer, known as Latz. The trainer had arrived in Nigeria barely 24 hours before the accident occurred. Fellow boxing champion Badou Jack confirmed Latz’s passing in a shocked Instagram post.

Presidential Condolence

Reacting to the devastating news, President Tinubu sent a personal message of sympathy to Joshua, acknowledging the heavy emotional toll of the incident during the festive season and praying for his recovery.

He wrote:

“AJ, I extend my deep sympathies to you following the tragic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which claimed two precious lives and caused you injuries.

This immense tragedy casts a deep shadow on this season. I sympathise with you and your family as you bear the emotional weight of this unfortunate incident.

As a sportsman, you have always shown courage, discipline, and unwavering love for our country. These are qualities that have made you a source of national pride.

In moments like this, we must encourage one another as brothers and sisters with a shared destiny.

I pray for strength, wisdom, and grace for you during this painful period. May God grant you a speedy recovery and repose to the souls of the departed.”

My father killed my grandfather, reveals actor Hicks  Yamba

HICKS Yamba, who plays Frank Dux in Zambezi Magic’s drama series Mpali, has shared a shocking story from his own family, revealing that his biological father killed his grandfather.

The tragedy, he explained, was linked to disputes over secretive family beliefs in the ‘dark world’ practices.

Known for his aggressive and feared role in Mpali, Yamba disclosed that his late grandfather practiced this mysterious tradition, which required him to leave certain rituals or possessions for the next generation to carry on.

According to Yamba, his father was expected to continue these practices but refused to participate.

He was speaking in an interview with ZMB Talks, monitored by #Kalemba.

“From what I hear, my grandpa believed in a dark world which required him to leave the rituals to the next person before he died, and the next person was my dad. My dad however, refused to participate in these practices and tensions escalated,” he explained.

“It ended tragically because my dad finally had enough. He beat his own father to death. He killed him and went to prison, then was later set free.”

Yamba said these developments forced him to grow up and become a man at a very tender age, a reality that shaped the actor’s perspective on life and family.

Yamba also revealed that he once wanted to become a pastor, but he also had a dream of joining the army.

“I attended Bible school in Kitwe, but about two years before completing it, I realised it wasn’t the right path for me. I couldn’t pretend for myself or for others. I had to choose between restricting my life or following my own path,” he stated.

He also admitted that during that time, he began experimenting with alcohol.

“When I got bored, I would sneak out to a local pool hall. It started with just soft drinks, but eventually I moved on to beer. Nenzo nkala dizzy ku Bible school, Yamba said, reflecting on the struggles and distractions that came with finding his true direction in life.

GOVERNMENT EXPRESSES DISAPPOINTMENT WITH CHIPOLOPOLO PERFORMANCE AT AFCON 2025

PRESS STATEMENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
30th December, 2025

GOVERNMENT EXPRESSES DISAPPOINTMENT WITH CHIPOLOPOLO PERFORMANCE AT AFCON 2025

.

The government has expressed disappointment with the performance of the Zambia Senior Men’s National Football Team at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) currently taking place in Morocco.

Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts, Hon. Elvis C. Nkandu, MP, said the government was not satisfied with the showing of the national team, particularly given Zambia’s history as former African champions.

“I am disappointed by the performance of our boys. We need to immediately start reorganising ourselves. Our players did not show the required character, patriotism, sense of responsibility, and will to win that is expected when one wears the national jersey,” said the Minister.

Hon. Nkandu noted that Zambia’s failure to register a win and amassing two points from a possible nine was a poor outcome for a nation that has won the Africa Cup of Nations before.

“This is not a good showing for former champions. We urge the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), the technical bench, and the players to introspect and ask themselves if these are the results they truly wanted for the country,” he said.

The Minister has further reminded stakeholders that there were very rich submissions made during the National Football Indaba convened on the 1st and 2nd of December, which must now be fully utilised.

“We need to tap into the very rich submissions from the Indaba. Those recommendations were meant to guide reforms in Zambian football, and this performance shows that implementation can no longer be delayed,” Hon. Nkandu emphasised.

While the government recognises the progress being made by age-group national teams, the Minister expressed concern that the performance of the senior men’s national team has remained average and, in some instances, poor.

“The growth of our junior national teams is commendable. However, the senior men’s team has not matched that progress, and this is an issue that must be urgently addressed.”

Regina Daniels and Brother Sweezzy Unfollow Each Other Amidst Ned Nwoko Divorce Saga

Regina Daniels and Brother Sweezzy Unfollow Each Other Amidst Ned Nwoko Divorce Saga

Speculation about internal family conflict is rife as Nollywood actress Regina Daniels and her UK-based brother, Sweezzy, have unfollowed each other on Instagram.

The “Unfollowing” Spree

This digital separation comes at the height of the actress’s highly publicised marital crisis with her estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko. Checks reveal that the tension appears to involve more family members, as Regina’s younger brother, Sammy West who was recently released on bail has also unfollowed Sweezzy on the platform.

A Surprise Twist

The development has left fans confused, especially given that Sweezzy, alongside their mother Rita Daniels, had been very vocal in demanding Sammy West’s release during his recent detention.

Context: The Arrest and Marital Crisis

The family drama is unfolding against the backdrop of Sammy West’s arrest on November 6, 2025. He was taken into custody in Lagos and transferred to Abuja following a petition reportedly filed by Senator Ned Nwoko, accusing him of criminal conspiracy, assault, theft, and cyberbullying. He was eventually granted bail set at ₦5 million on November 10.

Custody Battle

The arrest is believed to be linked to the bitter separation between Regina Daniels and the Senator. The actress recently opened up about a fierce child custody battle, alleging that Ned Nwoko dismissed her nannies and pressured them to make false statements against her. She further claimed that the Senator has filed for full custody of their children, despite the fact that the children are currently in his care.

“Excessive Speed” – FRSC Reveals Cause of Anthony Joshua’s Fatal Crash That Killed Two

Internationally renowned boxing champion Anthony Joshua has survived a tragic road accident in the Makun area of Ogun State, which claimed two lives on Monday morning.

The Crash Details

The collision occurred around 11:00 am on the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Video footage from the scene shows the 35-year-old former heavyweight champion being pulled from the wreckage of an SUV, visibly injured. Reports confirm that his vehicle collided with a stationary truck.

FRSC Confirms Casualties

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) issued an official statement signed by Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, confirming that five people were involved in the accident.

The statement detailed:

“The incident involved two vehicles: a black Lexus Jeep with registration number KRD 850 HN (private) and a stationary red commercial Sinotruck with unknown registration number. A total of five adult males were involved in the crash.

Two persons sadly lost their lives, one sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt. Anthony Joshua was rescued alive and sustained minor injuries.

The injured victim was evacuated for medical attention, while the remains of the deceased were conveyed to Livewell Morgue, Ajaka, Sagamu,”

Cause of the Accident

Preliminary investigations by the FRSC suggest that the crash was a result of traffic violations. The authorities suspect the SUV was traveling above the speed limit and lost control during an overtaking maneuver, slamming into the truck parked by the roadside.

The FRSC noted:

“The primary causes of the crash being excessive speed and wrongful overtaking constitute serious traffic violations and remain among the leading causes of fatal road crashes on Nigerian highways,”

Safety Warning

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and wished Anthony Joshua a swift recovery. The agency used the opportunity to warn motorists against dangerous driving habits, especially during the festive season.

TRUTH PAINS, LIKE RAIN! FOOTBALL TALENT DOES NOT RAIN IN ONE OR 3 PROVINCES

TRUTH PAINS, LIKE RAIN! FOOTBALL TALENT DOES NOT RAIN IN ONE OR 3 PROVINCES.

The post does not Mention any Specific province or tribe and nothing radical. It merely suggests that football talent, much like rain, does not fall on only two or three provinces. In the true tradition of Samuel “Zoom” Ndhlovu, it calls for an inter-provincial, inclusive, and nationally representative approach to player selection.

Yet, as the saying goes, “When you throw a stone into a pack of dogs, the one that yelps is the one it has hit.” If a call for transparency and meritocracy provokes anger or defensiveness, then perhaps the discomfort is not with the message, but with the mirror it holds up.

A fair, geographically diverse selection system should alarm no one who is acting in good faith. Only those invested in narrow gatekeeping would interpret inclusivity as an attack. Or, as our elders warn, “He who owns the granary fears the hungry man asking for a key.”

Football does not grow in silos. It grows when doors are opened, not when corridors are narrowed for convenience. “A river that forgets its source will dry up,” and a national team that forgets the nation will never truly compete.

The objective remains simple: national excellence over provincial comfort, systems over sentiments, and integrity over noise. As they say, “Wisdom is like a baobab tree; no one individual can embrace it alone.”

In other ways what iam saying is or the  post simply advocates for a broader, inter-provincial approach to player selection, anchored in inclusivity and national representation much in the same spirit that Samuel “Zoom” Ndhlovu consistently championed.

If this position triggers discomfort or hostility, it may be worth reflecting on why. A transparent, merit-based, and geographically diverse selection framework should not threaten anyone acting in good faith. Resistance to such a call often signals vested interests rather than genuine concern for the growth of the game.

Football thrives when opportunity is widened, not narrowed. The objective is national excellence, not provincial convenience.

I am just telling you what a lot of people are thinking but can’t say it and truth pains. Any way do a mirror check I have not mentioned any specific tribe or province.

It’s not an excuse, but I didn’t like the way the referee handled the game – Moses Sichone

Chipolopolo coach Moses Sichone has expressed disappointment with the standard of officiating following Zambia’s elimination from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, saying some decisions in their final Group A match left him frustrated, although he insisted this was not the reason the team exited the tournament.

Zambia bowed out of the AFCON at the group stage after finishing winless, as hosts Morocco and Mali sealed qualification to the next round, leaving Chipolopolo and Comoros out of contention.

Speaking after the match, Sichone admitted that emotions got the better of him on the touchline due to what he felt were questionable refereeing decisions, but stating that Zambia must also take responsibility for failing to get the results they needed.

“It’s not an excuse, but I didn’t like the way the referee handled the game, and that’s why I was upset over some of the decisions,” Sichone said.

The Chipolopolo gaffer said the tournament had shown areas that need serious attention going forward, particularly the need to gradually refresh the squad by allowing younger players to step up and take responsibility at senior level.

Sichone noted that while some experienced players who were part of past successes, including recent youth achievements, are still in the setup, the future of the national team will depend on how quickly emerging talent can assert themselves and compete for starting positions.

He added that Zambia should not dwell too much on past achievements but instead use the AFCON disappointment as a learning curve to rebuild and prepare a stronger team for future competitions.

The Chipolopolo failed to register a single victory, despite moments of promising that they would get to the drawing board.

With Morocco and Mali advancing, focus now shifts to returning home and join the rest of the country to watch New Year fireworks.

U.S. STRIKES INSIDE VENEZUELA: WASHINGTON SHIFTS FROM CONTAINMENT TO DIRECT ACTION

U.S. STRIKES INSIDE VENEZUELA: WASHINGTON SHIFTS FROM CONTAINMENT TO DIRECT ACTION

For years, U.S. policy toward Venezuela focused on pressure, sanctions, and maritime interdiction.

If confirmed, striking a major drug-production facility on Venezuelan soil marks a clear escalation and a deliberate shift in strategy.

This move signals that Washington is no longer satisfied with chasing boats at sea and is now targeting the infrastructure that enables the flow of narcotics in the first place.

Geopolitically, this changes the equation in the Caribbean, sending a warning not only to Caracas but to regional actors who assumed U.S. action would remain limited and indirect.

It also raises the cost for the Maduro regime by demonstrating that sovereignty will not shield criminal networks tied to state power.

The lack of immediate details only heightens the message: pressure is now kinetic, unpredictable, and closer to home.

This step also recalibrates deterrence. Direct action on land signals that escalation dominance now rests with Washington, forcing adversaries to weigh retaliation against the risk of further strikes that dismantle core revenue streams.

Finally, it reshapes regional calculations. Allies see resolve; traffickers see vulnerability; Caracas faces a narrowed margin for miscalculation. The precedent matters as much as the impact, once crossed, this line resets expectations across the hemisphere.

ZELENSKY ASKS FOR 50-YEAR GUARANTEE – TRUMP SAYS GIVE UP THE LAND NOW

ZELENSKY ASKS FOR 50-YEAR GUARANTEE – TRUMP SAYS GIVE UP THE LAND NOW

Zelenskyy met Trump at Mar-a-Lago Sunday asking for 50 years of security guarantees. Current peace plan offers 15.

Trump said they’re “getting close” but “one or two thorny issues” remain.

The issue? “The land,” Trump said. “Some of that land has been taken. Some of that land is maybe up for grabs… you are better off making a deal now.”

Translation: lock in your losses before Russia takes more.

Zelensky wants any deal put to a referendum during a 60-day ceasefire. Russia, currently launching heavy drone and missile attacks, “clearly does not want a ceasefire,” he said.

Moscow’s demands: Ukraine cedes the entire Donbas region (mostly but not fully occupied), and no security guarantees for Kyiv whatsoever.

So here’s the negotiation: Zelensky wants half a century of protection. Russia wants land with no strings attached.

Trump’s telling Ukraine to hurry up and accept territorial losses before the map gets worse.

That’s just managing Ukraine’s surrender in installments while calling it diplomacy.

50-year guarantees mean nothing if year one starts with giving up the east.

I am funding campaigns from my own pocket- Given Lubinda

I am funding campaigns from my own pocket, cries Lubinda

PF figurehead Given Lubinda has complained of the financial burden of singlehandedly financing the campaigns of his candidate in the Chawama Constituency parliamentary by-election.

The former justice minister has revealed that he has been personally bankrolling party activities, including costly by-elections.

Speaking in frustration, Lubinda said the PF currently has no money to run its operations, forcing him to use his own resources to fund campaigns whenever by-elections are called.

He explained that during internal meetings, some members loudly promise to contribute large sums of money towards campaigns, but once the election is over and financial reports are compiled, those same individuals are nowhere to be seen.

Lubinda said records clearly show that some people who make noise and brag about contributing as much as K50,000 end up not even giving a single kwacha to the party.

“I have been using my own money to run the campaign in Chawama and not only Chawama but all the other by-elections that we have held,” Lubinda said.

He added that the burden of funding the party has largely fallen on him as a loyal member who remains committed to keeping the PF alive despite the confusion and leadership fights rocking the party.

Lubinda also took aim at some Mpika constituency outspoken lawmaker Francis Kapyanga, accusing him of being loud in public while contributing nothing towards the party’s survival.

He challenged him to be honest with himself by publicly stating how much money he and others have personally contributed to the running of the party.

In recent months, PF leaders and members have been trading insults on social media and in public statements as they fight over leadership and control of the party.

DEFACTO BOYCOTT OF 2026 ELECTIONS LOOMS –  IF

This morning I woke up to a video of JJ Band lamenting. He, being on the run and in exile, I felt his anger to the bone. It reminded me of my depression the day after Bill 7 was passed some two weeks ago.

This is very very disturbing, what is going on in the PF as the main parliamentary opposition.

It reminds me of my personal experience 30 years ago, the State of UNIP in 1996 during the change of the constitution to Barr KK; When UNIP was so undecided about direction that internal problems began in the Party.  First, collection of NIKUV voter’s cards from voters, then burning of voters cards, then the arrest of Senior party officials in Black Maamba treason case and then eventually, Boycott of Elections…..UNIP could not take a decision to enable it to prepare for the elections.

I hope, there will be no De’ Facto Boycott of elections in 2026 due to the inability of the opposition to show leadership.

We Should not allow a situation where the UPND is allowed to shoot the ball into the goal, without a defence or a goal keeper.

This would be the highest degree of Irresponsibility. The end of opposition politics and the end of multi-party politics and a return to a Defacto one party state. This is what the UPND wants and the rest of us will be losers

I pray and hope and wish and cry that Someone, Some Brave People in the opposition will rise to the occasion and provide a direction before it is too late. A BRAVE LEADERSHIP MUST STEP UP,

My quick thoughts as a Private Citizen of the Zambia that I don’t want.

PF FINANCES UNDER STRAIN AS LUBINDA ADMITS PERSONAL FUNDING

🇿🇲 BRIEFING | PF FINANCES UNDER STRAIN AS LUBINDA ADMITS PERSONAL FUNDING

Patriotic Front figurehead Given Lubinda has openly acknowledged that the party is struggling financially, revealing that he is personally funding PF campaign activities, including the ongoing Chawama parliamentary by-election.

Speaking in frustration, the former justice minister said the PF currently has no operational funds, leaving him to bankroll campaigns whenever by-elections arise. His remarks offer a rare public glimpse into the party’s internal financial stress at a time when it is also grappling with leadership disputes and legal uncertainty.

“I have been using my own money to run the campaign in Chawama and not only Chawama but all the other by-elections that we have held,” Lubinda said.

Lubinda complained that internal fundraising commitments often fail to materialise. He said some members publicly pledge amounts as high as K50,000 during meetings, but post-election financial records show that no contributions are made.

“Records clearly show that some people who make noise and brag about contributing as much as K50,000 end up not even giving a single kwacha,” he said.

The PF leader argued that the burden of keeping the party afloat has fallen on a small circle of loyalists, with himself carrying most of the cost. He framed this as a test of commitment amid growing factionalism.

Lubinda also took aim at Mpika PF MP Francis Kapyanga, accusing him of being vocal in public while contributing nothing financially to the party. He challenged Kapyanga and others to publicly disclose how much they have personally contributed to PF operations.

The comments come against a backdrop of intensifying internal disputes within the PF, with rival camps aligned to Given Lubinda, Brian Mundubile, and Makebi Zulu competing for influence ahead of a delayed party convention.

At the same time, senior members have publicly warned that disunity and weak coordination are undermining the party’s electoral competitiveness.

Lubinda’s admission highlights a deeper structural problem for the opposition.

Campaign financing remains critical under Zambia’s electoral system, particularly during by-elections that require rapid mobilisation. The PF’s apparent lack of a functional funding base raises questions about its organisational capacity, especially as it positions itself as an alternative government ahead of the 2026 general election.

For now, Lubinda’s remarks shift the spotlight from ideological battles to a more basic reality: without money, party machinery stalls, regardless of rhetoric or popular support.

Chief Mabumba of the Ushi People of Mansa District in Luapula Province has observed that Patriotic Front (PF) members who maliciously fought Dr. Chitalu Chilufya only ended up destroying their own party.

The traditional leader said the PF now requires a leader capable of rebuilding and reuniting the party ahead of the 2026 General Elections.

Chief Mabumba noted that the PF presidency demands someone with a proven track record of development and a clear understanding of the needs of the people, citing Dr. Chilufya’s contribution to Zambia’s health sector, where health infrastructure was developed countrywide.

He said with limited time remaining before the 2026 polls, the party needs a nationally recognised figure such as Dr. Chitalu Chilufya.

The Chief further urged Dr. Chilufya to unite the PF and embrace all members, including those who previously persecuted him, adding that leadership should be anchored on forgiveness and unity.

He also stated that should Dr. Chilufya be given an opportunity to govern, he must use it to unite the country.

Meanwhile, Chief Kalaba encouraged Dr. Chilufya to replicate what he did in the Ministry of Health to other Sectors Countrywide.

The Royal Highnesses were speaking when Dr. Chilufya  accompanied by some members of the PF Central Committee, provincial, district, constituency and ward officials paid a courtesy call on them on Monday.

DR. NOEL CHISEBE WELCOMES DECLARATION OF CHRISTIAN NATION PUBLIC HOLIDAY

By Constance Shilengwe

GOVERNANCE and  Human Rights Advocate  Dr. Noel Chisebe has welcomed President Hakainde Hichilema’s declaration of the Day of Prayer and Fasting, marking Zambia as a Christian nation, as a public holiday, describing it as a recognition of the important role Christianity plays in shaping the country’s values.

Dr. Chisebe says the decision, which follows a request by Bishop Nfula, reflects the government’s commitment to acknowledging Zambia’s spiritual and moral heritage.

He notes that the declaration is a moment of joy and unity, providing an opportunity for Christians across the country to come together in prayer, worship, and reflection.

Dr. Chisebe has also commended President Hichilema for reinforcing the message of “One Zambia, One Nation”, love, and inclusiveness, saying the call promotes national cohesion and mutual respect among citizens.

He adds that recognising the role of the church opens avenues for stronger collaboration between government and faith-based institutions in addressing key social challenges such as poverty, education, and healthcare.

Dr. Chisebe further says the move highlights Zambia’s democratic culture, where leaders engage citizens and respond to their aspirations.

As the country approaches the 2026 general elections, he has urged Zambians to embrace peace, unity, and love, in line with the President’s call for harmony.

He has welcomed the President’s invitation for the church to partner with government, encouraging stakeholders to work together to drive positive change, support community development, and promote peace and reconciliation.

Dr. Chisebe has called on all citizens to celebrate Zambia’s Christian heritage and work towards a brighter future founded on unity, love, and hope.

Pastor Chris Okafor’s ex-wife Bessem fires back, makes fresh allegations

Pastor Chris Okafor’s ex-wife, Agnes Bessem Okafor, has publicly responded to the clergyman’s recent emotional appearance where he denied allegations and spoke about his divorce and children.

Speaking in a lengthy video, Bessem introduced herself as the woman who married Chris Okafor at the age of 18, stating that their marriage was both traditional and legal, and produced four children. She insisted she was never a “side partner” and said people who conducted their wedding are still alive and aware of the marriage.

Bessem claimed she was the one who walked away from the marriage, saying she could no longer cope with what she described as his lifestyle and conduct, which she alleged brought shame to the church. She said she kept quiet for over 14 years but decided to speak now after hearing what she described as lies and half-truths in his recent statements.

She accused the pastor of repeatedly lying about his past, claiming she discovered evidence that he had been previously married, which he allegedly denied at the time. According to her, the discovery left her devastated, and she accused him of deceiving her while she was young and vulnerable.

Bessem further alleged that throughout their marriage, she endured abuse and assault, claiming she has medical reports from hospitals to back up her claims. She stated that on the day she finally left, she was physically attacked and had to leave through a back gate to escape.

She also made serious allegations of infidelity, claiming that Okafor impregnated multiple women during their marriage, including women she said were members of his church. She alleged that after she left, one of the women she identified moved into the house and took over caring for the children.

“I have accepted your apology but God has not” – Actress Doris Ogala tells Pastor Chris Okafor

Actress Doris Ogala has reacted again following Pastor Chris Okafor’s public apology, making it clear that while she has personally accepted it, she believes the matter is far from over.

Speaking in a lengthy and emotional statement, Doris said people urging her to forgive were being hypocritical. According to her, she has accepted the apology on a personal, human level, but does not believe the apology was sincere or enough to address the issues she raised.

She stated that Pastor Chris’ apology was directed at “the mortal Doris,” adding that while she has forgiven him as a person, she believes God has not accepted the apology. Doris claimed the apology was more about damage control than genuine repentance.

The actress further alleged that deeper issues exist within the church, insisting that many members are under what she described as “bondage” and “hypnosis.” She claimed that people were blinded to wrongdoing and continued to applaud actions that should raise concern.

Doris also challenged Pastor Chris to take the matter to the police if, as he claimed, all allegations against him were lies. She said she was prepared to present evidence if the matter became a legal one, stressing that she did not come forward for attention or clout.

She maintained that recent developments and people speaking out are signs that the situation is unfolding beyond her control. According to her, she believes God is intentionally exposing issues and that more revelations may still come.

Despite confirming that she has forgiven him personally, Doris insisted that what is happening now goes beyond her and urged people to allow events to take their course. She concluded by saying that she sees herself as only a vessel and believes that whatever is coming next will surprise many.

China launches “Justice Mission 2025” war games surrounding Taiwan

Tensions in the Taiwan Strait have escalated significantly as China’s military announced the mobilization of its army, navy, air, and rocket units for “major military drills” starting Monday, December 29, 2025.

The exercises, officially dubbed “Justice Mission-2025,” are described by Beijing as a “serious warning” against Taiwanese independence movements and “external interference”—a clear reference to recent U.S. and Japanese diplomatic and military support for the island.

The Eastern Theater Command of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) confirmed that the drills are designed to test combat readiness and simulate a “systemic blockade” of Taiwan’s key ports and critical maritime areas. China has designated five maritime and airspace zones encircling the island for live-fire activities scheduled for Tuesday, December 30.

The mobilization includes a comprehensive array of hardware, featuring destroyers, frigates, fighter jets, bombers, drones, and long-range missile units. Beyond mere intimidation, the PLA stated the drills focus on “all-dimensional deterrence outside the island chain,” signaling an intent to practice fending off international intervention.

The timing of these war games follows several major developments that have drawn Beijing’s ire. Earlier this month, the United States approved an $11.1 billion arms package for Taiwan. The deal includes 82 HIMARS rocket systems, 420 ATACMS missiles, and advanced drones, marking one of the largest military sales to the island in history.

Furthermore, tensions between Beijing and Tokyo have spiked after Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi suggested Japan could respond militarily if China moved to take Taiwan by force. Additionally, Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te is currently pushing for a $40 billion special defense budget to create a “T-Dome” air defense network, though the proposal currently faces gridlock in Taiwan’s opposition-controlled legislature.

Taiwan’s government has strongly condemned the drills as “irrational provocation” and “military intimidation.” The defense ministry reported it is on high alert, deploying “appropriate forces” and conducting its own rapid response exercises to defend the island’s sovereignty.

The United States, while maintaining its “One China” policy, remains legally bound to provide Taiwan with defensive weaponry. U.S. officials emphasized that the recent arms sale is intended to maintain the military balance and ensure regional stability in the face of China’s increasing assertiveness.

No ambulance, no proper care. Just look at the terrible state of Nigeria — X User reacts as video from accident Anthony Joshua was involved in surfaces

A social media user has sparked fresh outrage over Nigeria’s emergency response system following a video showing heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua at the scene of a fatal road accident in which two people reportedly lost their lives.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Esen (@SemiNigerian) criticised the absence of basic emergency protocols after the crash, describing the situation as a reflection of Nigeria’s poor governance and weak public safety systems.

According to the post, despite the seriousness of the accident, there was no visible ambulance, no trained medical personnel, and no proper first aid at the scene. Instead, Anthony Joshua was reportedly made to sit upright in the front seat of a police van immediately after the crash — a move the user noted goes against standard safety procedures, which require accident victims to be laid flat and stabilised to prevent further injury.

The video accompanying the post allegedly shows Joshua being dragged out of the vehicle involved in the accident, further fuelling public concern over how such critical situations are handled.

“This is deeply troubling,” the user wrote. “It highlights how broken our emergency response and governance systems are. May Nigeria not happen to any of us.”

The incident has since generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians echoing frustrations over the lack of functional emergency services, poor accident response infrastructure, and inadequate training for first responders.

As of now, there has been no official statement clarifying the circumstances of the accident or the actions taken by authorities at the scene.
