THIS IS BILL 7
Here are the 13 amendments to the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Bill, 2025, along with reasons why we should support them:

1. *Increase in National Assembly seats*: From 156 to 211 constituency-based seats, aligning with the Electoral Commission’s delimitation report.
    – Reason: This will enhance representation and democracy, ensuring more citizens have a voice in parliament.

2. *Mixed-member proportional representation*: Introducing a system to guarantee representation for women, youths, and persons with disabilities.
    – Reason: This will promote inclusivity and diversity, ensuring marginalized groups have a stronger voice in parliament.

3. *Reserved seats*: 20 for women, 12 for youths, and 3 for persons with disabilities, allocated based on party performance.
    – Reason: This will ensure more representation and participation of marginalized groups in decision-making processes.

4. *Removal of two-term limit for mayors and council chairpersons*: Promoting accountability and transparency.
    – Reason: This will allow experienced leaders to continue serving, promoting stability and good governance.

5. *Harmonization of parliamentary and council terms*: Aligning terms to 5 years, promoting stability and good governance.
    – Reason: This will ensure consistency and predictability, allowing for more effective planning and implementation.

6. *Vacancy in Minister’s office 90 days before elections*: Ensuring accountability and transparency.
    – Reason: This will prevent abuse of power and ensure a smooth transition.

7. *Revised qualifications for Secretary to Cabinet*: From 10 years to 5 years, promoting meritocracy.
    – Reason: This will ensure the best candidates are appointed, regardless of experience.

8. *Attorney-General and Solicitor-General continue in office*: Until new appointments are made, ensuring continuity.
    – Reason: This will ensure stability and consistency in government operations.

9. *Revised definition of “child” and “adult”*: Clarifying legal definitions, promoting clarity.
    – Reason: This will ensure consistency and clarity in laws and policies.

10. *Election petition deadlines*: Specifying timelines, promoting efficiency.
    – Reason: This will ensure timely resolution of disputes, promoting stability.

11. *Inclusion of MPs in councils*: Enhancing representation and participation.
    – Reason: This will ensure MPs are more involved in local governance, promoting accountability.

12. *Revised nomination procedures*: Addressing resignations and disqualifications, promoting fairness.
    – Reason: This will ensure a smooth and fair process, promoting democracy.

13. *Clarification of partial terms*: Addressing ambiguities, promoting clarity.
    – Reason: This will ensure consistency and fairness, preventing abuse of power.

Overall, these amendments aim to strengthen democracy, promote accountability, and enhance representation and participation in Zambia.

I think this is one of the best amendments.

Why Hon. Chishimba Kambwili Remains One of PF’s Strongest Options for Party President”

Why Hon. Chishimba Kambwili Remains One of PF’s Strongest Options for Party President”

_By Michael Zephania Phiri Political Activist_

If the PF wants a President who won’t kneel, won’t shake, and won’t sell the party for survival  then the choice is simple: Chishimba Kambwili.

He has been in the fire, walked through the storms, carried Cabinet responsibility, and still remained loyal to the grassroots when others ran to the highest bidder.

Kambwili is not perfect he is proven. Not polished  but powerful. Not experimental  but experienced.

At a time when PF needs a fighter with a voice that cannot be muted and a backbone that cannot be broken, Kambwili remains the strongest bet for the PF presidency.

In short: If the party wants safety, choose anyone. But if the party wants victory choose Kambwili.

I WAS WRONG TO CALL UPND MEMBERS HOOLIGANS, ADMITS KAPYANGA

I WAS WRONG TO CALL UPND MEMBERS HOOLIGANS, ADMITS KAPYANGA

MPIKA PF MP Francis Kapyanga says he has reflected following his seven-day suspension from the House and realised that the word ‘hooligans’ was not parliamentary.

He has, however, urged the Speaker of the National Assembly to also act on points of order raised by opposition members.

The Mpika lawmaker was on Tuesday suspended for seven days by Second Deputy Speaker Moses Moyo for using unparliamentary language.

Kapyanga’s suspension came after Mitete MP Misheck Mutelo raised a point of order against him for calling UPND members ‘hooligans’.

This is the second time he has been suspended in this sitting, as on September 17, he was suspended for two weeks for contempt of the House.

Reacting to this in an interview, Wednesday, Kapyanga said he did not feel targeted, as he felt the Speaker was just doing his job.

He urged the Speaker to also act on the points of order raised by opposition members.

“Well, I don’t feel targeted. I just feel that maybe the Speaker should also attend to our points of order and complaints against the members on the right. Because we’ve complained a lot of times against our fellow members on the right. It’s not a secret that most of these suspensions are just on the opposition side. But I don’t feel targeted, I feel the Speaker was just doing his job,” he said.

“The only issue I want is that also our complaints must be attended to whenever we complain, even our points of order should also be attended to in the same fashion as when those on the right complain against certain figures within the opposition rank in Parliament. The enforcement of the Standing Orders must be fairly applied to both sides”.

On the use of the word ‘hooligans’ in the House, Kapyanga said, “I have reflected and realised the word ‘hooligans’ was not parliamentary”.

Kapyanga further said he used the word ‘hooligans’ because he felt he wasn’t protected against attacks from members on the right, but admitted his reaction was wrong as a leader.

“Even when I used that word, it’s because I was being harassed whilst debating, being attacked, being insulted. [But] even when you complain against such or a point of order is raised against such, the perpetrators will just go scot-free. And that’s their fashion. You know, in the House there are those exchanges of words, but it has always been a joking way. Unlike where someone targets you like they are attacking you and uses unpalatables against you. If you checked, it was during debate, and I asked the Speaker to protect me. But of course, being a leader, it’s not right not to accept a wrong,” said Kapyanga.

PROTESTS SHOULD PROCEED-ARCHBISHOP BANDA

PROTESTS SHOULD PROCEED- Bishop Alick Banda

Archdiocese of Lusaka Bishop Alick Banda says the Presidency is playing with fire, and Zambia’s stability and wellbeing is way too important for the kind of reckless political experimentation that the country is being subjected to.

And the Archdiocese of Lusaka has urged all the faithful to join a peaceful demonstration to bear witness to their commitment to a Zambia where laws serve the people, not oppress them, and where leaders govern with humility, not with unchecked power.

“Truth be told, the Presidency is playing with fire, and Zambia’s stability and wellbeing is way too important for the kind of reckless political experimentation that the country is being subjected to.”

The bishop said the protests where not an act of defiance but an expression.

“This gathering is not an act of defiance, but an expression of the citizens’ constitutional right to speak against injustice and to affirm the values of participation, accountability, and respect for human dignity.”

“As Catholics, our faith calls us to be peacemakers and defenders of the truth. The Gospel reminds us that justice and merey walk hand in hand, and that silence in the face of oppression is itself a form of complicity.”

“By joining this peaceful demonstration, we bear witness to our commitment to a Zambia where laws serve the people, not oppress them, where leaders govern with humility, not with unchecked power.”

He said, “Let our presence be marked by prayer, discipline, and unity. Carry yourselves with dignity, remembering that our strength lies not in violence but in the moral authority of truth.

We call upon every Catholic to recognize that this moment requires courage. The Freedom Statue, a symbol of sacrifice and liberation, is the fitting place for us to gather and proclaim that Zambia belongs to her people, not to oppressive laws. May the Lord bless our efforts, guide our steps, and grant us the wisdom to act with love and justice. Together, let us stand for truth, for freedom, and for the future of our beloved nation.”

WHY IS WATCHDOG SO MUCH AGAINST THIS MAN, THEY VILIFY HIM ALMOST EVERY OTHER DAY, FORGETTING THAT THEY ARE ACTUALLY EXPOSING THE UPND GOVT
==============

Instead of fighting against the political missiles coming right into the Presidential compound, the deadliest UPND propaganda F-35 fighter jet is busy fighting this guy over fuel supply and other tenders.

This is misplaced energy and is attracting more criticism because Zambia Watchdog is actually revealing that there’s corruption in the UPND government. The opposition and other interest groups can take advantage of this to attack the UPND government.

Now, the issue is that whoever runs ZWD doesn’t supply fuel or anything to the Zambian Government, so whatever they write is coming from other tenderpreneurs who are blinded by their selfishness to pay ZWD to write these stories, which conversely dent the image of the Government.

Whatever the inner fights over tenders in the UPND government, should not be brought out by the UPND themselves; this is irresponsible.

At the moment, the focus should be on countering the malicious propaganda being unleashed on President Hichilema and his Government instead of washing dirty linen in public for others to pick up and use against the UPND.

BaZWD (or whoever runs it, I can mention your names but we are on the same team), give it a break before you draw all of us into this.

If you are being paid to write stories on a particular businessman, what will stop me from also getting money from another businessman to attack your people? But where will that take us?

I need money too, maybe I should reach out to Shashi Patel, or Gulamu, or whoever, to pay me to take on those who are paying for such articles. Remember no businessman is unblemished, so careful when you throw stones at others.

As a Party in power you need all businessmen to be on your side, otherwise you risk frustrating others to start supporting your opponents. BE WISE, DON’T BE SELFISH.

Basically, all I’m saying is that let’s focus on the real danger here; we have a lot to do, not causing more damage to the UPND Government.

ECZ EXTENDS VOTER REGISTRATION BY THREE DAYS FOLLOWING HIGH TURNOUT

ECZ EXTENDS VOTER REGISTRATION BY THREE DAYS FOLLOWING HIGH TURNOUT

THE Electoral Commission of Zambia has extended the mass voter registration exercise by three days following a surge in turnout on the final day.

The exercise, which was initially scheduled to end on Wednesday, will now run until Saturday, 29th November 2025.

ECZ Chairperson Ms. Mwangala Zaloumis says the extension is aimed at ensuring that all eligible citizens who have not yet registered are given a fair chance to do so.

She says the decision follows reports from registration centers across the country indicating overwhelming participation, particularly in the concluding hours of the original deadline.

Ms. Zaloumis has emphasized that the new date will be the final one, stating that the registration period will not be extended further beyond 29 November.

The Commission also cited visits to various centers over the past 45 days as part of its assessment leading to the decision.

ECZ has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering an inclusive and credible voter registration process ahead of the 2026 general election.

Ms. Zaloumis has encouraged eligible voters who have not registered to take advantage of the remaining days, while thanking the public for the orderly conduct observed throughout the exercise.

The Commission further acknowledged the media and other stakeholders for their continued cooperation during the nationwide registration period.

Govt calls for exchange-based approach for rural teacher deployment!

Govt calls for exchange-based approach for rural teacher deployment!

Minister of Education, Douglas Siakalima, has assured the public that government has put measures in place to ensure that teachers transferred from one district to another promptly vacate their original pay points, to create space for their replacements.

Mr. Siakalima says to address staffing shortages in some schools, the Ministry is proposing an exchange-based transfer system.

Speaking during the oral question session in the National Assembly today, Mr. Siakalima said this model will ensure that when a teacher is moved out of a place another one is moved concurrently.

He noted that this approach will help maintain stable staffing levels while also minimizing payroll distortions.

The Minister was responding to a question from Kanchibiya Member of Parliament, Sunday Chanda, who sought to know how many teachers had been transferred from Kanchibiya to other districts while still drawing salaries from the Kanchibiya pay point as of June 2025.

Mr. Siakalima revealed that 87 teachers who were transferred from Kanchibiya to other districts are still withdrawing their salaries from the Kanchibiya pay point.

“This process safeguards against delays and prevents multiple teachers being linked to the same payroll slot,” said Mr. Siakalima.

The European Union has started a process that may impose more sanctions against Tanzania

Responding to the Embassy of Tanzania’s Note Verbale dated 25 November 2025.

1. “The Government is concerned the EU did not give it an opportunity to present its side.”

Rebuttal:

A government that shuts down domestic media, censors all journalism about the October 29–Nov 3 killings, blocks observers, and arrests witnesses cannot claim it is being denied an opportunity to speak. The EU hearing exists precisely because Tanzania has refused to allow free reporting or independent investigations internally.

What the government calls “not given an opportunity” is actually:
•victims not being allowed to speak,
•civil society being threatened,
•opposition leaders being detained, and
•state machinery blocking truth-finding.

The EU cannot wait for a regime that is actively suppressing evidence.

2. “*Proceeding without Tanzania’s views is inconsistent with the Cotonou Agreement and partnership dialogue.”*

Rebuttal:

The Cotonou/OACPS–EU framework does not oblige the EU to seek permission from a state before condemning killings or human rights violations. Dialogue is not a shield against accountability.

The government selectively quotes “dialogue” while ignoring:
•human rights clauses of the same agreement,
•obligations to prevent killings,
•obligations to protect political rights,
•the fact that dialogue does not supersede fundamental rights.

The EU is fully within its legal and moral mandate to deliberate on mass atrocities without waiting for perpetrators to dictate the schedule.

3. “*Natural justice requires hearing both sides before conclusions are drawn.”*

Rebuttal:

Natural justice begins at home.
If Tanzania respected this principle:
•protesters would not have been shot,
•detainees would not be held incommunicado,
•Tundu Lissu would not be isolated under CCTV surveillance,
•journalists would not be threatened,
•families of victims would not be denied information about their loved ones.

A government committing violations cannot invoke “natural justice” only when facing international scrutiny, while denying the same rights to its own citizens.

4. “*The EU risks relying on unverified and one-sided narratives.”*

Rebuttal:

This claim collapses instantly under scrutiny.

The evidence of abuses is:
•video-recorded,
•geo-verified,
•documented by hospitals treating gunshot victims,
•supported by eyewitnesses,
•corroborated by international organizations,
•acknowledged even by government insiders who have fled.

The only “unverified narrative” is the government’s shifting explanations, including:
•denying deaths,
•then admitting casualties,
•then blaming “outsiders”,
•then blaming “opposition incitement”,
•then claiming “no protests were authorized”.

None of these contradictions discredit the documented facts of killings.

5. “*Tanzania has established a National Commission of Enquiry.”*

Rebuttal:

The government is asking the world to trust a Commission that:
•has no publicly released terms of reference,
•is not independent of the Executive,
•excludes victims, opposition, civil society, and independent observers,
•lacks transparency,
•has historically been used to bury cases.

Calling this Commission “independent” is misleading.
It is not credible by international standards (UN, AU, ACHPR) and cannot replace an impartial investigation.

6. “*Tanzania remains committed to democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.”*

Rebuttal:

Actions matter more than words.

No democratic government:
•shoots unarmed civilians,
•detains elected leaders for political reasons,
•blocks opposition rallies nationwide,
•manipulates the media through threats,
•invokes cybercrime laws to arrest group admins,
•shuts down the internet during political crises.

Commitment to human rights cannot coexist with extrajudicial killings and systematic repression.

This statement is diplomatic theatre, not reality.

7. “*The Embassy requests rescheduling of the EU plenary session.”*

Rebuttal:

This request is a delay tactic designed to buy political time, not a genuine procedural complaint.

Authoritarian governments always:
•delay hearings,
•demand more “dialogue”,
•ask for “balanced information”,
•request postponements until pressure fades.

The EU should not reschedule anything.
Victims did not get “rescheduling”.
Families burying loved ones did not get “dialogue”.

If the government wants to present its case, it can send representatives.
Nothing stops them.

8. “*Ensure Members of Parliament receive accurate and balanced information.”*

Rebuttal:

The Embassy is essentially asking:

“Do not believe the victims’ testimonies. Believe only us.”

Balanced information does not mean:
•suppressing independent data,
•sidelining civil society,
•diminishing the voices of survivors,
•replacing facts with state propaganda.

If the government wants “balance”, let it:
•release the detainees,
•allow independent investigators in,
•open the hospitals and mortuaries to scrutiny,
•stop intimidating witnesses.

You cannot demand “balance” while violently controlling all information channels at home.

9. “*Tanzania values its longstanding partnership with the EU.”*

Rebuttal:

Partnership requires:
•honesty,
•transparency,
•respect for human life,
•cooperation with international norms.

A government cannot openly violate human rights and simultaneously invoke “partnership” as a shield against accountability.
Partnership is not a blank cheque.
It comes with standards.

*CONCLUSION:*
A DIPLOMATIC NOTE THAT EXPOSES MORE THAN IT PROTECTs

The Note Verbale is:
•legally weak,
•morally hollow,
•diplomatically evasive,
•procedurally manipulative,
•politically desperate.

International partners should treat it for what it is:
an attempt to obstruct scrutiny of state-perpetrated atrocities.

*The European Parliament must proceed with its hearing, deliberate independently, and place the protection of human life above governmental sensitivities.*

South Africa does not appreciate insults from any country, Ramaphosa tells Trump

President Cyril Ramaphosa has strongly criticised comments by US President Donald Trump regarding South Africa’s participation in the 2026 G20 Summit, stating that South Africa “does not appreciate insults” from any country.

Ramaphosa emphasized that South Africa is a sovereign constitutional democracy and a founding member of the G20, asserting that its membership is legitimate and recognised by all other member states. He said the country will not accept attempts to question its worth or standing on global platforms.

The President noted that the 2025 G20 Summit hosted in Johannesburg was widely hailed as a major success, even though the United States chose not to attend. He added that South Africa respects the sovereignty of all nations and would never insult or demean another country in the international arena.

Ramaphosa reaffirmed that South Africa will continue to participate fully and constructively in the G20, urging all members to uphold principles of multilateralism and equal participation.

He concluded by expressing regret that, despite Pretoria’s efforts to improve relations, President Trump “continues to apply punitive measures against South Africa” based on what the Presidency describes as misinformation and distortions about the country.

SWEDEN SEEKS MISSILES WITH RANGE TO REACH MOSCOW – A NEW ERA OF DETERRENCE

SWEDEN SEEKS MISSILES WITH RANGE TO REACH MOSCOW – A NEW ERA OF DETERRENCE

This is not your grandparents’ neutral Sweden.

Fresh off joining NATO, Stockholm is openly telling its government:

We need cruise missiles with a 2,000 km reach – enough to strike deep into Russia, including the capital.

Why now? Easy:
– Russia already has long-range strike capability.
– Ukraine showed what happens to countries without credible deterrence.
– And Sweden is done pretending geography will save it.

They’re already getting Taurus missiles (500 km), but the military wants real reach – plus surveillance drones and spy satellites to actually find and track targets.

To be clear: Sweden is not saying “we’re preparing to attack Moscow.”

They’re saying: “Russia only respects strength. So here’s some strength.”

Moscow is ~1,000 km from Stockholm.

Now Sweden wants the ability to hit anything within twice that distance.

Russia will howl, NATO quietly nod, and the Baltic region will become the next major frontier in the European arms race.

Sweden’s era of quiet caution is over – and Putin just gained another neighbor that’s done taking chances.

THE PUTIN-TRUMP BACKCHANNEL LEAK: A 5-MINUTE CALL THAT REWIRES THE TRUMP–PUTIN GAME

0

 THE PUTIN-TRUMP BACKCHANNEL LEAK: A 5-MINUTE CALL THAT REWIRES THE TRUMP–PUTIN GAME

Bloomberg drops 2 bombshell call transcripts – and instead of denying, Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov basically shrugs: “Someone is leaking, someone is listening, but not the Russian side.”

In other words: “We’re not saying it’s fake. We’re saying it’s inconvenient.”

Let’s dig in.

Here’s the raw meat straight from the leaked logs:

  • Putin’s inner circle strategizing how to launder a peace plan through the U.S.

Putin’s Special Envoy Kirill Dmitriev:
“We’ll make this paper from our position… I’ll informally pass it along… making it clear it’s all informal.”

Ushakov worries the U.S. might twist it:
“They might not take and say that it was agreed with us. That’s what I’m afraid of.”

Dmitriev promises loyalty:
“I’ll say it exactly as you say it, word for word.”

This is not diplomatic language. This is operations language – precise phrasing, message discipline, plausible deniability.

  • Witkoff advising how Trump should pitch peace to Putin

Steve Witkoff tells Ushakov Trump should open with flattery:
“You respect that he is a man of peace… you’re really glad to have seen it happen.”

Then he floats the real ask:
“If we can get the Russia-Ukraine thing solved, everybody will be jumping for joy.”

Ushakov, laughing:
“You need to solve only one problem… the Russian-Ukrainian war.”

The vibe:
2 governments preparing a peace pitch like it’s a joint press release – and now the whole thing is on the front page.

Most likely scenario:
The calls are authentic. The leak was not accidental.

Russia can truthfully say “we didn’t leak it” – because leaks often come from 3rd countries monitoring the calls (Gulf states? Israel? Even friendly intel services?).

And Moscow knows exactly how to weaponize a leak it didn’t technically release.

One thing is certain:
After this leak, any Trump-Putin conversation on Ukraine is now freighted with the question no one can unsee –

Who’s really writing the peace plan?

MAGA love triangle EXPLODES — Boyfriend chooses TRUMP over MTG as she quits Congress

BREAKING: MAGA love triangle EXPLODES — Boyfriend chooses TRUMP over MTG as she quits Congress.

In a meltdown so messy even Bravo wouldn’t film it, the MAGA universe has officially entered its Real Housewives era. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, once Donald Trump’s most loyal attack dog, has dramatically quit Congress after a bitter, very public breakup with the man she once worshipped — and to make it even juicier, her own boyfriend has now picked Trump over her.

Yes, you read that correctly. In this flaming political divorce, Brian Glenn — MTG’s partner and a Trump-aligned White House correspondent — has chosen loyalty to the president over the woman sitting next to him on the couch.

This is the kind of Shakespearean chaos you get when a movement is built entirely on grievance, ego, and mutual blackmail.

MTG, once so devoted she practically embroidered Trump’s initials on her tactical vest, announced she will resign on January 5, 2026. She delivered the news in a video filmed in her living room — with Glenn awkwardly sitting just off-camera like a man who knows he’s about to be caught in the crossfire — claiming she wouldn’t force her constituents to endure a “hateful primary” that Trump was engineering against her.

This all unraveled after Trump labeled her a “traitor”, vowed to “destroy” her for pushing him on the Epstein files, and accused her of abandoning the “America First” agenda — which, for the record, Trump abandons every 12 minutes whenever it’s convenient.

But Glenn? He’s staying right where the power is.

As MTG faced a wave of MAGA rage, Glenn posted a patriotic couple’s photo with the caption, “I love this woman. I love this country. God bless America.” Sweet, right? Except he then immediately told reporters he’s still firmly team Trump.

“I stand with the president,” he said. Translation: Love you, babe, but I’m not giving up my MAGA press pass.

He even admitted that when he returns to the White House briefing room — where Trump has been publicly torching his girlfriend — he’ll just stand there, stone-faced, letting it all happen. A supportive, modern partner who will absolutely let the president insult his girlfriend on national television while he just… watches.

MTG is left trying to salvage her pride — and maybe launch a presidential campaign from outside elective office, according to Glenn. He claims she’ll be “more powerful” now, helping “message the party,” like Trump did after leaving office. Sure, Jan.

Meanwhile, Glenn made sure he was standing front and center at the White House turkey pardon this week — in the perfect spot for Trump to see him, like a loyal dog waiting to be noticed.

Let’s be clear: When even Marjorie Taylor Greene — a woman who spent years debasing herself for Trump’s approval — can’t survive the MAGA loyalty Olympics, it tells you everything about the cultish rot inside the GOP.

This isn’t a movement. It’s a toxic relationship — and now we’re all watching the world’s pettiest custody battle for the soul of a fascist fan club.

Pass the popcorn.

ARSENAL BEAT BAYERN TO MAINTAIN 100% RECORD

NONI Madueke scored his first goal for Arsenal as the Gunners put three past Bayern Munich to maintain their 100% record in the Champions League.

Arsenal were dominant from the beginning of the game and took the lead in the 22nd minute when Jurrien Timber headed in Bukayo Saka’s corner – the 10th goal that Arsenal have scored from a corner this season, the most of any side in Europe’s top five leagues.

Bayern grew into the match after going behind and equalised 10 minutes later when Joshua Kimmich hit a crossfield pass to Serge Gnabry and the former Arsenal forward played the ball across the area for 17-year-old Lennart Karl to score from close range.

It was the first goal that Arsenal had conceded in the competition this season but it did not stop them making it five wins from five.

England winger Madueke put the Gunners in front when substitute Riccardo Calafiori fired a powerful cross into the area for him to help into the net.

The Gunners then wrapped up the win when Sunday’s north London derby hero Eberechi Eze clipped a pass over the defence and Gabriel Martinelli knocked the ball around goalkeeper Manuel Neuer – who was in no man’s land – to hand Bayern Munich their first defeat of the season.

This week looked like it had the potential to be difficult for Arsenal, with games against rivals Tottenham Hotspur, Bayern Munich and Chelsea, but Mikel Arteta’s side have made the first two of those matches look easy.

Arsenal put four past Spurs and now three past Bayern Munich as they continue to perform like a team that are finally going to win their first major trophy since 2020.

Arsenal and Bayern Munich were the top two sides in the league phase heading into this match but, just like the Gunners have done to most teams they have played this season, they dominated the match.

Arteta made just two changes to the side that beat Spurs, with Cristhian Mosquera and Myles Lewis-Skelly coming into the backline, and the strength of Arsenal’s squad has been the biggest theme of their season.

Arsenal have had to deal with injuries to a number of players in their front line, but they have dealt with them due to the quality they have and have now welcomed back Martin Odegaard, Martinelli and Madueke.

Madueke and Martinelli came off the bench to score as Arteta utilised what he calls his ‘finishers’ from the substitutes’ bench.

Arsenal have lost just one game this season and are top of both the Premier League and Champions League table and, with key players returning from injury, they look like they are going to be very difficult to dislodge.

Bayern were unbeaten before their trip to London but, apart from a short period after their equalising goal, they did not look like winning against Arsenal.

Harry Kane was starved of the ball and, although a strength of his is picking the ball up in deep positions, he could not create or get on the end of any dangerous attacks.

His team-mate Michael Olise, who is also having an excellent season with nine goals and 10 assists in 19 games, was also quiet – although he did cause Lewis-Skelly trouble at times.

Bayern Munich also struggled with the threat Arsenal posed from corners in a disappointing night for Vincent Kompany’s side.

The brightest spark was 17-year-old Lennart Karl, who scored on just his second start in the Champions League.

The teenager showed great touches on the ball and continues to flourish in his breakthrough season for Bayern Munich.

WHILE THE WEST PONDERS AI UTOPIA, CHINA’S IS BUSY MAKING WASHING MACHINES

WHILE THE WEST PONDERS AI UTOPIA, CHINA’S IS BUSY MAKING WASHING MACHINES

In the West, AI is pitched as a force to cure cancer, fight climate change, or write your emails slightly faster.

In China, it’s wiring washing machines, managing shipping ports, and quietly rebuilding the world’s factory floor.

While American tech CEOs give keynote speeches about “ethical frameworks,” Chinese factories are already rolling.

One AI model designed a winter jacket. Another slashed production time at a washing machine plant from 15 minutes to 30 seconds.

At steel plants, operators intervene once every 30 minutes instead of every 3.

And at one of China’s busiest ports, AI now handles scheduling – a task that used to take 24 hours – in just 10 minutes.

China’s goal isn’t hype. It’s scale. Billions are flowing into AI that actually does stuff – fast.

Forget killer robots. Think faster garment sampling, better cement, and ports so automated they barely need lights, let alone workers.

Western countries argue about regulation, data rights, and whether AI should replace copywriters.

China’s AI is already replacing shift workers and it’s not asking for permission.

Their thought process is simple: AI doesn’t have to be magic. It just has to work.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Wednesday the possibility of constructing Kyrgyzstan’s first nuclear power plant

0

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Wednesday the possibility of constructing Kyrgyzstan’s first nuclear power plant.

During a meeting with his Kyrgyz counterpart Sadyr Japarov in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek, Putin said that advanced small modular reactor technology could be used in the new nuclear power plant.

“Rosatom (Russian nuclear industry company) is implementing a large-scale reclamation program for uranium mining sites (in Kyrgyzstan). The possibility of constructing the republic’s first nuclear power plant using advanced Russian technology—small modular reactor technology—is being explored, which, I emphasize, meets the most stringent safety and environmental protection requirements,” Putin noted.

He also said that Russia and Kyrgyzstan are planning to build a large solar power plant in the Issyk-Kul region, in eastern Kyrgyzstan.

Meanwhile, in northern Kyrgyzstan, a new modern combined heat and power plant will be built, the Russian leader noted.

Bilateral agreements

During his state visit to Kyrgyzstan, Putin also said Moscow and Bishkek are set to sign a package of major agreements covering trade, economic, educational and migration fields.

Putin said a “joint policy statement” was ready for signature, outlining priorities to further strengthen the alliance and strategic partnership between the two countries.

“The agenda for our talks is quite extensive,” he said, noting that the intergovernmental documents represent “key objectives” for expanding cooperation across multiple areas.

Putin added that Russia values its relationship with Kyrgyzstan, stressing that bilateral ties continue to advance “based on mutual respect and consideration of each other’s interests.”

“My colleagues and I are very pleased to be in friendly Kyrgyzstan,” he said, adding that his visit comes ahead of a meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization’s (CSTO) Collective Security Council.

Moscow, Bishkek trade in national currencies

Putin also noted that Russia and Kyrgyzstan conduct around 97% of payments in their national currencies.

He underlined that both countries are exploring new options for organizing “mutual settlements.”

“Russia is Kyrgyzstan’s leading trade and economic partner. Last year, trade turnover increased by 13.6% to a record $4.1 billion. It also increased by another 17% between January and September,” said Putin, adding that Russian investments reached almost $2 billion.

Meanwhile, Sadyr Japarov announced that the number of Russian companies in Kyrgyzstan increased to 1,800 last year.

Putin arrived in Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek on Tuesday. The Kyrgyz presidential statement said the two leaders will pay particular attention to strengthening trade and economic ties, expanding investment and industrial cooperation, developing military-technical and cultural-humanitarian cooperation, as well as discussing regional security issues.

Putin’s visit coincides with the upcoming summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), comprising Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan, which will take place in Bishkek on Nov. 27.

LOOKS LIKE A SHIPPING CONTAINER BUT IT’S ACTUALLY CHINA’S NEW MISSILE THAT COULD HIT JAPAN

A Chinese startup just dropped a hypersonic missile that flies at Mach 7, dodges threats, launches from shipping containers, and ends its promo video by aiming straight at Japan.

The YKJ-1000 isn’t coming from a state-run defense giant, it was developed by a private Chinese firm called Space Transportation (or Lingkong Tianxing if you’re a local).

The company says it can mass-produce hypersonic missiles at just 10% of what traditional military manufacturers charge.

That means faster, cheaper, and potentially more unpredictable weapons – and it’s coming from outside China’s usual state-controlled arms industry.

The missile reportedly has an 800-mile range, can adjust its own flight path mid-air, and may eventually come with AI.

It’s also deployable from what looks like a basic cargo box. So yes, your next shipping container could be a missile silo.

The C-suite wars just went supersonic.

Trump, After Call With China’s Xi, Told Japan to Lower the Volume on Taiwan

Trump, After all Call With China’s Xi, Told Japan to Lower the Volume on Taiwan

Xi spent half the call hammering Trump about Taiwan, furious over Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s recent comments suggesting Japan could join a military response if China attacked the island.

Hours later, Trump phoned Takaichi and gently suggested she cool her tone, according to both U.S. and Japanese officials. He didn’t pressure her to retract anything, but the message was clear enough that Tokyo interpreted it as Trump trying to protect his new trade détente with Beijing from any fresh Taiwan friction.

The episode shows how tightly Taiwan and trade have become linked in Trump–Xi diplomacy. Xi framed Taiwan’s “return to China” as part of the post-WWII order and emphasized Washington and Beijing’s shared responsibility to avoid destabilizing moves. Trump, meanwhile, has been leaning hard on China to speed up its promised purchases of U.S. farm goods, and didn’t want a Japan–China flare-up to derail the thaw.

Takaichi, who has built her brand on a tougher defense posture, appeared to soften slightly in parliament afterward, saying she hadn’t meant to get specific on a Taiwan contingency. Analysts in Tokyo noticed the order of calls (China first, Japan second) as a sign Trump is unusually willing to rein in an ally when it risks upsetting his relationship with Xi.

Tanzania Redirects Independence Day Funds to Rebuild After Unrest

Tanzania  Redirects Independence Day Funds to Rebuild After Unrest

The Tanzanian government has announced that there will be no official Independence Day celebrations on December 9, 2025. Instead, the funds set aside for the event will be used to repair infrastructure damaged during the recent election-related unrest.

Authorities say the decision reflects a commitment to restoring stability and focusing resources where citizens need them most. While Independence Day is usually a major national moment, this year the priority shifts to rebuilding roads, public facilities, and essential services affected in the turmoil.

The move has sparked conversation across the country—some see it as a responsible step toward recovery, while others say it highlights the deeper tensions following the elections.

Julius Malema and “Cat” Matlala Share Light Moment During Ad Hoc Committee Hearing

The tense atmosphere at Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee briefly gave way to laughter when EFF leader Julius Malema and Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala exchanged jokes during testimony.

It began when the Senior Counsel asked Matlala how he knew General Senona.
Matlala replied:

“My cousin is married… not my cousin, but we share the same name.”

Before the room could settle, Malema jumped in with a joke:

“You’re going to end up saying I’m your cousin.”

Without missing a beat, Matlala shot back:

“But you are.”

The room erupted in laughter as the hearing resumed.

FINDLAY TO KNOW HIS FATE TODAY

FINDLAY TO KNOW HIS FATE TODAY

“Acquit Me, I have no Case-Findlay”

Lusaka-27th November 2027

Lusaka Businessman Valden Findlay is in court for Judgment for allegedly possesing a second passport without authority.

Lusaka-Thursday, 27th November 2025

…the prosecution once again failed to prove beyond all reasonable doubt that the accused was in possession of more than one valid passport, therefore has failed to satisfy the statutory requirement of the offence,”…

Lusaka Magistrate Sylvia Munyina is expected to deliver Judgement in the case.

While the State has urged the court to find him guilty of immigration related allegations, the businessman has submitted that he “must” should be acquitted.

Findlay contends that the prosecution has failed to find a prema facie case against him in the criminal allegations that he was found with more than one valid passport.

“…the prosecution once again failed to prove beyond all reasonable doubt that the accused was in possession of more than one valid passport, therefore has failed to satisfy the statutory requirement of the offence,” Findlay submits through his lawyers.

“We maintain that the accused must be acquitted. We humbly beseech this honourable court to dismiss both counts and acquit the accused,” the lawyers-Messrs Milner & Paul Legal Practitioners and Messrs D. Findly & Associates submit.

Findlay is charged with two counts of holding more than one passport and possession of a forged immigration endorsement.

It count one, allegations are that on March 14, 2014, in Lusaka, Findlay acquired a Zambian passport number ZP021382, purporting to have lost Zambian passport number ZP013259.

It is further alleged that on October 3, 2022, in Lusaka, Findlay was found in possession of endorsements of forged immigration stamps for Mwami immigration border control.

The prominent businessman denied both allegations but after several witnesses testified, he was found with a case to answer and placed on his defence.

In defence, the accused denied the allegations contending that the stamp in issue was genuine but merely blurred.

He also justified possession of holding more than one passport at the same time as a replacement due to loss and subsistence of a valid visa.

In their final submissions, the prosecution team urged magistrate Sylvia Munyinya-Okoh to find the accused guilty based on the evidence adduced which proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.

But Findlay, in his final submissions contends that he should be set free because the case has not been proved in both counts.

“In conclusion on count two is that the prosecution did not produce any evidence to support allegations leveled against the accused”.

Residents of Mali report brutal torture and executions carried out by Russian mercenaries from the Wagner Group

Residents of Mali report brutal torture and executions carried out by Russian mercenaries from the Wagner Group

In 2021, a military junta seized power in Mali, forcing French troops to leave the country after accusations that they had failed to stop the insurgent movement.

The junta turned to Russia for help, which deployed mercenaries from the Wagner Group, then closely linked to the Kremlin.

Since then, the Wagner mercenaries have left, and their operations have been taken over by the “African Corps” under the patronage of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Ahmed, a former shop owner who survived torture and witnessed murders, told BBC correspondents about the brutality of Russian mercenaries:

“They dunked my head in water until I almost suffocated, stepped on my chest, beat me, and dunked me again. Then they brought two men and beheaded them in front of me. They held one of the bodies close to me so I could smell the fresh blood.”

On Telegram channels, the mercenaries shared photos and videos of killings, torture, cannibalism, and desecration of corpses, often with racist captions.

Today, operations are carried out by the Russian African Corps, but most former Wagner fighters continue to operate in the region, carrying on their methods of violence.

The conflict has forced tens of thousands of people to flee their homes and seek refuge in camps for displaced persons.

“PRESIDENT RAMAPHOSA NOTES US STATEMENT ON SOUTH AFRICA’S #G20 PARTICIPATION

President @CyrilRamaphosa has noted the regrettable statement by President Donald Trump on South Africa’s participation in the 2026 #G20 meetings.

The G20 South Africa 2025 Leaders Summit was hailed by all members who attended as one of the most  successful summits.

The summit produced a declaration that affirmed the indisputable strength and value of multilateralism in response to the most pressing challenges facing the world.

As the United States was not present at the summit, instruments of the G20 Presidency were duly handover to a US Embassy official at the Headquarters of South Africa’s  Department of International Relations and Cooperation.

As a founding member, South Africa has always valued the spirit of consensus, collaboration and partnership that defines the G20 as the premier forum for international economic cooperation.

In keeping with this approach, the United States was expected to participate in all meetings of the G20 during South Africa’s Presidency and elected not to attend the G20 Leaders Summit in Johannesburg out of its own volition.

South Africa is a member of the G20 in its own name and right. It’s G20 membership is at the behest of all other members.

South Africa is a sovereign constitutional democratic country and does not appreciate insults from another country about its worth in participating in global platforms. South Africa will never insult another country or its standing in the community of nations.

US entities such businesses and civil society organisations participated in large numbers in G20 related activities such as the B20 and the G20 Social. South Africa values their participation.

South Africa will continue to participate as a full, active and constructive member of the G20. We call on members of the G20 to reaffirm its continued operation in the spirit of multilateralism, based on consensus, with all members participating on an equal footing in all of its structures.

It is regrettable that despite the efforts and numerous attempts by President Ramaphosa and his administration  to reset the diplomatic relationship with the US, President Trump continues to apply punitive measures against South Africa  based on misinformation and distortions about our country.

EU’s Top Diplomat Kaja Kallas Gets the Cold Shoulder from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio

Breaking Diplomatic Drama: EU’s Top Diplomat Kaja Kallas Gets the Cold Shoulder from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio!

Reports are buzzing that Rubio has straight-up refused to meet with Kallas, canceling their Washington sit-down at the last minute and dodging any bilateral chats since.

As the EU’s foreign policy chief, this snub couldn’t come at a worse time amid escalating global tensions—think Russia-Ukraine fallout and the Gaza crisis.

Kallas, known for her tough stance on Russia (she’s Estonia’s former PM, after all), is already catching heat in Brussels for her bold comments on Gaza, and now her rocky vibes with European Council President Antonio Costa are adding fuel to the fire.

Is this a sign of cracking transatlantic unity? Or just personality clashes in high-stakes politics?

What do you think—could this rift impact EU-US relations long-term?

South Africa has officially transferred the G20 presidency to the United States in a quiet ceremony held in Pretoria.

The low-key event took place without any heads of state, following mutual agreement by both governments to avoid unnecessary political or diplomatic friction.

The understated handover comes after earlier disagreements regarding the level of U.S. representation expected at the summit  prompting both sides to opt for a modest, conflict-free transition.

The Long-Dormant Ethiopian  Volcano Erupts After 12,000 Years

A rare and dramatic natural event is unfolding in northern Ethiopia’s Afar Region.

The Hayli Gubbi volcano, silent for at least 12,000 years, has erupted for the first time in recorded history, according to Volcano Discovery.

The eruption has sent massive plumes of ash and smoke sweeping across parts of Ethiopia and drifting over the Red Sea toward the Arabian Peninsula. Scientists also report significant emissions of sulfur dioxide, which could affect air quality and regional weather patterns.

This unexpected awakening adds to the geological intensity of the Afar region—one of the most volcanically active rift zones on Earth.

HH is playing with fire – Archbishop Alick Banda in his long written warning statement

ARCHDIOCESE OF LUSAKA

The People’s Right to Peaceful Protest Against Bad Governance and Degeneration of Democracy is Truly Right and Justified

**Proverbs 29:2 “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan”.**

The Archdiocese of Lusaka is in full support with the Archbishop of Kasama and Bishop of Mpika regarding the right of citizens to express displeasure against bad governance and degeneration of democracy in Zambia. Truth be told, the Presidency is playing with fire, and Zambia’s stability and wellbeing is way too important for the kind of reckless political experimentation that the country is being subjected to. We submit that Bill 7 as it is being championed by its purveyors, the government, is proposing a big structural shift to this country’s political trajectory that will ultimately cause severe stress on the nation.

Bill 7 is being championed for himself, by himself with himself to the exclusion of the majority of people of Zambia. Since the government is unyielding to the voices of wisdom and reason calling for discontinuation of the Constitutional Amendment Bill Seven (7), the Archdiocese of Lusaka calls upon all Catholics and people of good will to stand together in defence of justice, truth, freedom and the dignity of our Constitution. As shepherds of the faithful, we cannot remain silent when laws are proposed that erode the voice of the people and compromise the common good.

Bill 7, presented under the guise of constitutional amendment, threatens the very foundations of our democracy and undermines the rights and freedoms that generations of Zambians have struggled to secure. We therefore urge all members of Small Christian Communities, Parishes, and Lay Groups across the Archdiocese to join the peaceful demonstrations organized by the Oasis Forum this Friday, November 28th, 2025, from the Freedom Statue to State House.

This gathering is not an act of defiance, but an expression of the citizens’ constitutional right to speak against injustice and to affirm the values of participation, accountability, and respect for human dignity. As Catholics, our faith calls us to be peacemakers and defenders of the truth. The Gospel reminds us that justice and mercy walk hand in hand, and that silence in the face of oppression is itself a form of complicity. By joining this peaceful demonstration, we bear witness to our commitment to a Zambia where laws serve the people, not oppress them, where leaders govern with humility, not with unchecked power.

We emphasize that this is a peaceful action. Let our presence be marked by prayer, discipline, and unity. Carry yourselves with dignity, remembering that our strength lies not in violence but in the moral authority of truth. Let us sing hymns, pray together, and walk side by side as one body of Christ, showing the nation that faith and civic responsibility are inseparable.

Together, let us stand for truth, for freedom, and for the future of our beloved nation.

UPND has dismissed allegations  that Israel plans to use Zambia as a base for launching attacks on South Africa

UPND CALLS ON PUBLIC TO REJECT CLAIMS OF ZAMBIA–ISRAEL COLLUSION

The United Party for National Development (UPND) has dismissed and condemned allegations suggesting that Israel plans to use Zambia as a base for launching attacks on South Africa.

The claims emerged shortly after Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s historic state visit to Zambia, which aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.

UPND Deputy Media Director, Sikwindi Situla, described the allegations as false, dangerous, and irresponsible, remarks he said were intended to create divisions among friendly nations.

“Zambia will never allow its sovereign territory to be used as a platform for aggression against any country because it is firmly committed to peace, regional stability, and the principles of non-alignment and mutual respect in international relations,” said Mr. Situla in a statement issues to RCV News in Lusaka.

He further affirmed that Zambia values its longstanding ties with both Israel and South Africa and will not permit attempts to entangle the nation in fabricated conflicts or smear campaigns.

Mr. Sikwindi noted that such insinuations undermine Zambia’s sovereignty and contradict the country’s foreign policy, which reflects its reputation as a peace-loving nation dedicated to fostering unity and cooperation across Africa and beyond.

Mr. Situla urged citizens to remain alert and reject propaganda, warning that misinformation of such kind threatens national unity, erodes public trust, and distracts from efforts to build a stronger Zambia.

WE’LL BE HAVING POWER CUTS FOR 2 WEEKS IF UPND WINS NEXT YEAR – KALABA

WE’LL BE HAVING POWER CUTS FOR 2 WEEKS IF UPND WINS NEXT YEAR – KALABA

CITIZENS First President Harry Kalaba says if UPND wins next year’s elections, the country will be having power cuts lasting for two weeks.

The country is currently experiencing at least 21 hours of load-shedding for residential areas due to power rationing by Zesco.

Speaking when he appeared on Prime TV’s Oxygen of Democracy, Monday, Kalaba told the interviewer he could not reveal his plans to work with other parties, to avoid being “preyed on” by President Hakainde Hichilema, whom he called undemocratic.

He accused the President of wanting to stay in power for another five years to increase load-shedding. “The reason why UKA collapsed is because we were playing to the gallery of the UPND”

Catholic Bishops Fire Back as Bill 7 Tsunami Escalate Ahead of Friday Dialogue

 MATTERS ARISING | Catholic Bishops Fire Back as Bill 7 Tsunami Escalate Ahead of Friday Dialogue

The fragile calm that briefly emerged early Wednesday after the Oasis Forum confirmed a scheduled dialogue meeting with President Hakainde Hichilema has evaporated within twenty-four hours, following a forceful intervention from the Archdiocese of Lusaka.

In a statement dated November 26, the bishops accuse the Presidency of “playing with fire” and warn that “Zambia’s stability and wellbeing is too important for reckless political experimentation.”

The tone marks a significant escalation at a moment when the country expected a de-escalation after days of confrontations over the controversial Constitution Amendment Bill 7.

The bishops declare explicit solidarity with the Archbishop of Kasama and Bishop of Mpika, two of the most vocal clerics in recent weeks. They accuse the government of championing a constitutional shift that will “cause severe stress on the nation,” adding that “Bill 7 is being championed for himself, by himself with himself to the exclusion of the majority of people of Zambia.”

This language mirrors the wider clerical criticism that has intensified since Sunday, when President Hichilema publicly invited dialogue and warned church actors against spreading what he called “hatred” and “divisive talk.”

President Hichilema had used his three-hour press conference on Tuesday to denounce what he described as a small but powerful network of elites and clerics fuelling hostility towards him. In one of the clips that triggered national debate, he said:

“The level of hatred for me is shocking. You can see and even touch the venom. I did not choose where I was born.” He followed with a direct warning: “Do not preach hatred and hide in the name of the church. The law is blind to whoever commits a crime.” His remarks were widely interpreted as targeting segments of the Catholic Church.

The bishops’ statement, released within twenty-four hours, signals that these comments were not received lightly. The Archdiocese frames Bill 7 as an existential threat to Zambia’s democratic architecture, stating that the proposed amendments “undermine the rights and freedoms that generations of Zambians have struggled to secure.”

It calls on Catholics across all parishes, Small Christian Communities and lay groups to join the Oasis Forum’s planned demonstrations from Freedom Statue to State House. The phrasing suggests that even with Friday’s dialogue confirmed, the clerical movement sees confrontation as necessary.

The timing is significant. This morning, the Oasis Forum Chairperson Beauty Katebe had said the coalition had “engaged State House for dialogue,” signalling openness to negotiation. Sources confirmed the meeting was set for Friday afternoon.

But the bishops’ statement brings the confrontation back into national focus, particularly the line that “silence in the face of oppression is itself a form of complicity.”

This raises questions about whether the terrain has shifted from dialogue to parallel pressure.

The government’s posture also remains firm. During the same press conference, President Hichilema questioned the motives behind street-based mobilisation, asking opponents: “Why after 2026? There is someone you are waiting for.” He accused unnamed actors of attempting to “reverse the gains” of the past four years and warned that “we will go very heavy on violence, they will not be allowed to regroup whether in UPND, PF or Tonse.”

His criticism of clerics with a track record of having said “it would have been better to rig the 2021 election than allow some people to rule” was widely interpreted as an unprecedented rebuke of the Church’s political faction.

The bishops insist that their planned mobilisation is peaceful, urging Catholics to “carry yourselves with dignity” while invoking moral resistance: “Our faith calls us to be peacemakers and defenders of the truth… leaders must govern with humility, not with unchecked power.”

Yet the language of moral confrontation, combined with the call for a public march, ensures that Friday’s meeting now sits within a tense national mood.

What emerges is a widening gap between two centres of authority that both claim legitimacy: a Presidency insisting on constitutional order and warning against clandestine political alliances, and a clerical establishment positioning itself as moral guardian of democratic rights.

With the Oasis Forum now balancing a dialogue invitation and a mobilisation mandate, and with the bishops renewing public pressure, Zambia enters Friday’s round of talks at a moment of heightened political and religious tension.

Whether dialogue will cool tempers or harden positions is now the central question.

ABANDON BILL 7 AND STOP BEING EMOTIONAL,  PF MPs TELL HH

ABANDON BILL 7 AND STOP BEING EMOTIONAL, OPPOSITION MPs TELL HH

By Prudence Chota

Opposition Members of Parliament have slammed President Hakainde Hichilema’s remarks suggesting that the church is against him due to his origin.

Addressing the media in Lusaka on Wednesday, Lunte MP Mutotwe Kafwaya said President Hichilema must stop bringing ethnicity into national discourse whenever different sectors of society oppose his style of governance.

Mr. Kafwaya said what Zambians have rejected is Bill 7 and the President’s alleged determination to have it enacted against the people’s will. He reminded the Head of State that he was elected by 2.8 million voters from across all regions, and noted that the UPND, while in opposition, also rejected Bill 10 and freely protested against it.

And Lukashya MP George Chisenga said Zambians have not changed in their expectations of leadership, arguing that it is the President who has shifted course. He described it as disheartening for Mr. Hichilema to accuse the church of attacking him when he previously sought refuge and support from the same church while in opposition.

Meanwhile, Tonse Alliance Chairperson Brian Mundubile said the Constitution is a national document and not a personal one, emphasizing that any amendments must be people-driven.

Mr. Mundubile accused the President of dishonesty in handling national matters, saying no one forced him to make promises he has failed to fulfil.

He has since urged the Head of State to promote love and unity rather than division.

Zambia Emerges From Debt Crisis as Reserves Rise & S&P Upgrades Sovereign Outlook

 BRIEFING | Zambia Emerges From Debt Crisis as Reserves Rise & S&P Upgrades Sovereign Outlook

Zambia’s slow but measurable economic recovery gained fresh momentum this quarter, with foreign reserves, debt metrics and copper output showing sustained improvement even as the country struggles with a severe energy deficit and public frustration over living costs.

Bank of Zambia data shows gross international reserves climbed to 5.2 billion dollars at the end of September, equal to 5.2 months of import cover. This is up from 4.7 billion dollars in June. The central bank attributes the gain to a 191.1 million dollar disbursement under the IMF’s Extended Credit Facility, improved foreign exchange inflows and tighter fiscal controls.

The positive trend was reinforced last week when S&P Global Ratings upgraded Zambia from selective default to CCC plus with a stable outlook. The agency cited “substantial progress” in restructuring 94 percent of the 13.3 billion dollar external debt under review and said the remaining holdout creditors pose a “manageable” risk to the deal’s integrity.

It is Zambia’s most significant credit improvement since it defaulted in 2020.

The structural story behind the upgrade is anchored in copper. Output rose 17.8 percent in the first half of 2025 after years of contraction, driven by operational improvements and new investment flows into large assets such as Mopani and Kansanshi.

S&P notes that copper will “anchor Zambia’s growth outlook” because global demand from electric vehicles and renewable energy remains strong.

Food security featured prominently during President Hakainde Hichilema’s charged three hour press conference on Tuesday. He announced the resumption of mealie meal exports to the Democratic Republic of Congo for the first time in three decades. “Rain or no rain, in the next three years Zambia will have food security,” he said, pointing to expanded irrigation and maize production, which reached 1.6 million metric tonnes against an earlier estimate of 500,000.

He also disclosed that Zambia is now exporting fertiliser after years of reliance on imports.

The President said government requires 11.3 billion kwacha to settle farmer payments and has already secured 7 billion. He appealed to commercial banks to lower lending rates in line with easing inflation and a more stable kwacha, arguing that the benefits of macroeconomic stabilisation must “reach households and producers.”

Fiscal restraint remains a central theme. Hichilema said his decision to skip the United Nations General Assembly for three consecutive years freed funds for education and health. “That money has gone into free education, desks in schools and medicines in hospitals,” he said.

The broader macro picture still faces serious risks. The energy deficit remains the biggest constraint to economic activity, with load shedding hurting mining, manufacturing and household welfare. S&P flags this vulnerability, warning that Zambia remains “highly exposed” to external shocks and must accelerate energy diversification if the recovery is to hold. The 2026 election cycle presents its own pressures, given Zambia’s historical pattern of pre election spending.

History underlines the significance of this moment. Between 2015 and 2020, Zambia accumulated large external debts, especially to Chinese lenders and international bondholders. By 2020, the country became the first African sovereign to default during the pandemic, with debt levels surpassing 120 percent of GDP.

The downgrade cascade pushed Zambia to the bottom of global credit rankings by 2022. The new CCC plus rating does not signal safety, but it confirms that Zambia has moved out of the most dangerous phase of its crisis.

For investors, the upgrade restores a path back to the markets. For citizens, the test is whether macro stability will translate into lower prices, reliable electricity and jobs.

Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane says the priority now is to “convert stability into productivity,” a task that will require strict spending controls, faster project delivery and resilience against climate shocks.

Zambia has taken a step forward, but sustaining credibility will demand discipline beyond the headlines.

Guinea-Bissau soldiers say they have taken power after reports of president’s arrest

….The event occurred shortly after the country’s national election, amidst political instability and disputes over the outgoing president’s term.

The results were expected on Thursday – both Embaló and his closest rival Fernando Dias have claimed victory.

On Wednesday, witnesses in Bissau heard gunfire at around 13:00 GMT but it was not immediately clear who was involved in the shooting or if there were any casualties.

Hundreds of people on foot and in vehicles fled, seeking shelter as the shots rang out, the AFP news agency reported.

Later on, General Denis N’Canha, head of the military household at the presidential palace, read out a statement declaring a takeover.

He said officers had formed “the High Military Command for the Restoration of Order” and closed the border.

Gen N’Canha instructed the population to “remain calm”.

In addition to Embaló, the president’s army staff and a number of ministers have reportedly been arrested.

Guinea-Bissau, with a population of just under two million people, is one of the poorest countries in the world. The former Portuguese colony has seen nine coups or attempted coups since 1980.

There have been two attempts to overthrow Embalo, the latest in December 2023They said they had formed “The High Military Command for the Restoration of Order” and would be in charge of the West African nation until further notice.

GUNFIRE IN THE CAPITAL BEFORE ANNOUNCEMENT
Shortly before the announcement, gunfire rang out near the electoral commission headquarters, presidential palace and interior ministry, witnesses said. It lasted for about an hour but appeared to have stopped by 1400 GMT, a Reuters journalist said.

There was no word yet of any casualties.
The electoral commission had been due on Thursday to announce provisional results from Sunday’s election in which Embalo faced off against top challenger Fernando Dias.
