Donald Trump has set 10 to 12-day deadline for Russia to end Ukraine war

0

US President Donald Trump has issued a new ultimatum, giving Russia “10 to 12 days” to end its war in Ukraine or face tough new sanctions and tariffs from the United States.

Speaking during a July 28 meeting in Scotland with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump expressed mounting frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s refusal to de-escalate the conflict, stating, “I’m going to make a new deadline of about ten or twelve days from today. There’s no reason in waiting.”

The president suggested he would officially announce the revised deadline by July 29, significantly shortening the original 50-day timeline he gave on July 14. That initial deadline would have expired on September 2.

“I want to be generous, but we just don’t see any progress being made,” Trump said. “It would be sanctions and maybe tariffs – secondary tariffs.”

Trump warned that if Putin does not move toward a ceasefire by the new deadline, the U.S. will impose penalties not only on Russia but also on countries doing business with it.

“He’s got to make a deal,” Trump said. “Too many people are dying. It’s a really bloody war.”

When Trump began his second term, he placed equal blame on both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for the conflict, which began with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. However, in recent weeks, Trump has focused his criticism squarely on Putin.

The president accused the Russian leader of pretending to entertain peace talks in private, only to follow up with missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities.

“You would think, based on common sense, that he would want to make a deal,” Trump said. “We’ll find out.”

See what woman with the ‘World’s largest lips’ looked like before she spent $26,000

Before surgery photos have emerged of a Bulgarian woman who began her transformation in 2018, undergoing an extreme number of cosmetic procedures — including lip injections, chin reshaping and lengthening, jaw contouring, and cheekbone enhancement all in pursuit of a doll-like appearance.

By 2022, she had undergone nearly 32 procedures and now closely resembles a real-life Bratz doll, spending over $26,000 on lip fillers alone has earned Andrea Ivanova the title of the woman with the “world’s largest lips.”

Doctors have repeatedly warned her about the dangers of excessive cosmetic work, calling it potentially fatal. Still, she insists on pushing the limits. “I wanted to experiment with myself to see how many injections and how much filler my body could take.”

Recently surfaced photos of Ivanova before the surgeries reveal a dramatically different look, underscoring the extent of her transformation. See below.

Despite acknowledging that her over-the-top appearance likely affects her love life, Ivanova remains undeterred. “My doctor was afraid to inject more hyaluronic acid into my lips, but I was adamant. I will not stop,” she said.

In addition to facial procedures, Ivanova also underwent breast augmentation, increasing her size from 75C to 75E.

Tesla and Samsung have signed a $16.5 billion chip deal- Elon Musk

Tesla CEO, Elon Musk has announced a $16.5 billion chip supply agreement with Samsung Electronics, a move expected to revive the South Korean company’s struggling foundry business.

The deal will see Samsung’s new chip factory in Taylor, Texas, manufacture Tesla’s next-generation AI6 chip.

Musk revealed that Tesla will help optimise production at the plant, located near his home, adding, “I will walk the line personally to accelerate the pace of progress.”

“The $16.5B figure is just the minimum — actual output will likely be several times higher,” Musk said in a post on X.

Samsung’s shares surged 6.8% to their highest level since September 2024 following the announcement, while Tesla stock gained 1.9% in premarket trading.

According to analysts, the Taylor facility previously struggled to attract major clients. The Tesla order marks a significant breakthrough, especially after reports in October 2024 revealed Samsung had delayed equipment deliveries due to a lack of customers.

Samsung currently produces Tesla’s AI4 chips for its Full Self-Driving system. While TSMC is set to make the AI5 chips, Samsung has now secured the more advanced AI6.

Though no specific timeline was shared, AI6 production is expected to begin in 2027 or 2028. Musk previously stated AI5 chips would be ready by late 2026.

Samsung, the world’s largest memory chipmaker, is working to expand its contract manufacturing business, which currently holds just 8% of the global market — far behind TSMC’s 67%.

The chip deal, running through 2033, had been initially announced without naming Tesla as the client. However, multiple sources confirmed the U.S. automaker as the buyer.

The partnership comes as Samsung faces intense pressure to compete in the booming AI chip sector. Earlier this month, the company projected a 56% drop in Q2 operating profit, with foundry losses exceeding $3.6 billion in the first half of the year.

Industry analysts say this deal could help reverse Samsung’s fortunes, offering a much-needed win in its race to stay competitive in a capital-intensive and technologically demanding field.

Russia began direct commercial flights to North Korea on Sunday July 27

0

Russia began direct commercial flights to North Korea on Sunday, July 27, marking a new phase in the strengthening ties between the two countries amid Russia’s ongoing offensive in Ukraine.

The first flight from Moscow to Pyongyang, operated by Russia’s Nordwind Airlines, took off at 1625 GMT, according to Sheremetyevo airport’s website. The flight is expected to arrive in the North Korean capital approximately eight hours later.

Initially, the route will be serviced only once a month, the Russian transport ministry said. Tickets for the flight were priced at 45,000 rubles, roughly five hundred seventy US dollars. Nordwind Airlines previously operated flights carrying Russians to European holiday destinations before the European Union imposed a ban on Russian flights.

“This is a historical event, strengthening the ties between our nations,” said Oleg, a Nordwind employee managing the flight, who declined to give his full name or disclose the number of passengers onboard.

Russia’s deputy transport minister Vladimir Poteshkin highlighted the significance of the event, stating that this was the first time in more than seventy years of diplomatic relations that direct flights were launched between the capitals of the two countries.

According to Russia’s state news agency TASS, the first return flight from Pyongyang to Moscow is scheduled for Tuesday, July 29. The two countries restored train links on June seventeenth after suspending them in 2020 during the Covid pandemic.

Russia and North Korea have been building closer military ties in recent years. Pyongyang has supplied troops and weapons for Russia’s military operations in Ukraine. The two nations signed a mutual defence pact last year during a visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin to North Korea. In April, North Korea confirmed for the first time that it had deployed a contingent of its soldiers alongside Russian troops on the frontline in Ukraine.

Lionel Messi and wife caught on ‘Kiss Cam’ at Coldplay’s concert in Miami

Football legend, Lionel Messi, and his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, were shown on the Kiss Cam at Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres concert in Miami on Sunday, July 27.

In the video, the couple can be seen standing side by side at a reserved section. Messi smiles and raises his hand, as the stadium erupts in chants of “Messi! Messi! Messi!”,

The two do not kiss or interact further with the camera, though the moment created a viral moment that quickly spread across social media.

Delta Airlines pilot arrested by ICE agents moments after landing plane

Passengers and plane crew were left shocked when a Delta Airlines pilot was detained by federal agents just moments after landing a plane at a California airport.

The pilot was arrested on board Delta Flight 2809 around 9:35 p.m. Saturday, July 26, just as the aircraft touched down in San Francisco from Minneapolis and was preparing to deplane, according to a local report.

Before anybody could leave, about 10 federal agents — including officers from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) — boarded the full plane, then “stormed the cockpit, cuffed the co-pilot, arrested him, walked him down the aisle, and ushered him off the plane,” one alarmed passenger who saw the whole ordeal said.

“A group of people with badges, guns, and different agency vests/markings were pushing their way up through the aisle to the cockpit,” passenger Sarah Christianson told the San Francisco Chronicle.

After the pilot was led away by the entourage of officers, another group came to cart his bags away.

The flight crew had apparently no idea what was happening, with the other pilot telling passengers that he was as baffled as they were by the arrest, Christianson said.

Exactly why the pilot was arrested remains unclear.

HSI is a division of the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and has led many of the immigration raids and arrests since President Trump began rolling out a mass crackdown on illegal immigrants.

Christianson called the incident “shocking and unnerving.”

“It was rage-inducing to see someone being disappeared right in front of me,” she said.

HSI has not clarified why the pilot was arrested or whether his immigrant status had anything to do with it.

Clergywoman tells firstborn daughters to ignore their parents’ pleas for them to support their siblings’ education

A Nigerian clergywoman has advised firstborn daughters who are having difficulty in their families to ignore their parents’ pleas for them to support their siblings’ education.

In a now-viral video, the clergywoman said during a sermon in her church that parents who place such demands on their daughters who are already having financial difficulties are only encouraging them to become prostitutes.

She advocated for parents to stop placing pressure on their kids.

In her words;

‘’Your siblings are not your responsibility. You only help if you have. If you do not have, relax. There is an age my parents will reach and I will know it is now time for all of us to start taking care of them. You are the first daughter and you are training your six siblings in school. From which salary? There are invariably pushing you into prostitution, you should reject it.

How can they give birth to eight children and failed to train anyone? and they are expecting you as the first daughter to train them. Are they okay?

Go and look at some lazy fathers, they are the ones that do not care about the joy of their children in marriage.

‘He has money, go’.

Go where?

‘He will take care of you’

Because you as a father you have failed. There are some people in marriages crying ‘Mummy I am dying here’

Mummy will say ‘Don’t come out ooo..stay there oo..he is giving us money every month..my Ogor, my one and only in-law, while you are dying”

Kemi Badenoch has vowed that doctors’ strikes will be banned under a Conservative govt

Leader of the United Kingdom’s Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, has vowed that doctors’ strikes will be banned under a Conservative government

The Tory party leader today announced she would amend the law to bar the protests as she insisted the British Medical Association (BMA) is ‘out of control’.

It comes following 11 strikes in the past 18 months, which Ms Badenoch said had resulted in patients dying.

Her comments were made on GB News amid the ongoing five-day series of strikes by resident doctors in support of a pay claim.

Urging Sir Keir Starmer to take similar action, Ms Badenoch said: ‘The BMA has become militant, these strikes are going too far, and it is time for action.

‘Doctors do incredibly important work. Medicine is a vocation – not just a job. That is why in government we offered a fair deal that supported doctors, but protected taxpayers too.

‘These strikes will have a significant economic effect, but they will also mean cancelled operations, worry for families of the sick, and suffering for those who are unwell. We know that previous strike action by doctors even led to some patients losing their lives.

‘That is why Conservatives are stepping in, and setting out common sense proposals to protect patients, and the public finances. And we are making an offer in the national interest – we will work with the Government to face down the BMA to help protect patients and the NHS.’

Police, the military, and prison officers are banned from taking strike action under the 1992 Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act in the UK. The Conservatives would amend this to include doctors.

woman shot d3@d months after receiving a threat letter with message: “Stay away from my man. Your days are numbered”

A 32-year-old South African woman, Lesego Mary Masina, was shot and k!lled by unknown gunmen during what seemed like a robbery.

The sad incident happened on Sunday, July 20, 2025 at Boikhutsong, Phase 8 in Mabopane, Tshwane, few months after she received a threat letter, warning her to stay away from a certain man.

Lesego was laid to rest at the Soshanguve Crossing Cemetery on Sunday, July 27.

Her sister, Ofense Masina, 27, said three thugs, wearing balaclavas, robbed them at gunpoint.

She said seven members of the family were chilling when they heard footsteps outside the house.

“We didn’t even hear them open the door. They had torches as there was no electricity in the area on that day,” she said in an interview with Daily Sun on Monday, July 28.

“They told us to keep quiet as they didn’t want to kill anyone. They didn’t even tell us exactly what they were looking for.

“They took almost 15 minutes to search the house, asked our names, then we knew they wanted something more. We realised this was not a robbery, but they were sent to kill Lesego. We were tied up.

After Lesego told them her name, they said they had found what they were looking for. Then, they took her to the bedroom and told her she was the person they were after.

There was screaming, a gunshot rang out and they left.

“My sister had one bullet to the head. They stole two cell phones, a Samsung Galaxy, Huawei Y70, and R150,” she explained.

Offentse said in February, someone dropped a letter at night with a strong message and two bullets attacked to it.

She said they also called her mum at night, saying they had delivered a parcel.

She said the family didn’t know who sent the letter.

“We don’t know who killed Lesego. We need justice,” she said.

Lesego’s father, Paulous Masina, 57, said these thugs wanted to kill her, and it wasn’t a robbery.

“That Sunday, we were at a funeral burying a church member during the day. My daughter was happy. We want justice for my daughter,” Paulous said.

The grieving father said police failed them during the first incident of a letter.

Gauteng Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, confirmed the incident.

“A case of house robbery and murder is opened for further investigations, and no one has been arrested as yet,” he said.

Francesco Totti’s son retires from football at just 19 due to ”intense pressure from comparisons to his father”

Cristian Totti, son of Italy and AS Roma legend Francesco Totti, has retired from football at just 19.

According to the Spanish newspaper As, the decision stemmed from intense pressure from comparisons to his father, a Roma icon, and constant criticism of his physical appearance on social media.

The young forward, who played for clubs like Roma, Frosinone, Rayo Vallecano, Avezzano, and Olbia, chose to step away from the pitch and take a role at the Totti Soccer School, where he will help develop new talents.

Despite his recognized talent, Cristian struggled to cope with expectations. The burden of the Totti name, combined with online criticism, made his career unsustainable. He now seeks a new purpose in the sport, away from the spotlight.

His father, Totti, 48, spent his entire career at Roma, winning a Serie A title, two Coppa Italia titles, and two Supercoppa Italiana titles.

A prolific goalscorer, he is the second-highest scorer of all time in Italian league history with 250 goals, and is the sixth-highest scoring Italian in all competitions with 316 goals.

Israeli human rights groups accuse Israel of genocide in Gaza

Two of Israel’s most prominent human rights organizations have accused the Israeli government of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza—marking the first time Israeli groups have made such a claim.

In a detailed 79-page report released Monday, July 28, B’Tselem concluded that Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Gaza constitutes genocide. The group cited Israel’s policies, the scale of destruction, and public statements from senior political and military figures as the basis for its conclusion.

“Nothing prepares you for the realization that you are part of a society committing genocide. This is a deeply painful moment,” said Yuli Novak, Executive Director of B’Tselem. “As Israelis and Palestinians who live here and witness the reality every day, we have a duty to speak the truth as clearly as possible: Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinians. Our genocide has context.”

Physicians for Human Rights Israel (PHRI) joined B’Tselem in its accusation, publishing its own analysis documenting what it described as the “deliberate and systematic dismantling of the health system in Gaza and other essential services vital to civilian survival.”

PHRI argued the destruction goes beyond collateral damage: “This is not about unintended consequences of war, but a deliberate policy aimed at harming the Palestinian population as a group.”

The Israeli government swiftly rejected the accusations. “We have free speech in this country, but we strongly reject this claim,” said government spokesperson David Mencer, adding that Israel has facilitated aid deliveries into Gaza.

Israel maintains that its actions in Gaza, launched in response to Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attacks, are lawful acts of self-defense. The attacks resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and the abduction of 251 others to Gaza.

B’Tselem’s report accuses Israeli forces of mass killings, large-scale destruction of infrastructure, forced displacement, and efforts to dismantle Gaza’s social fabric. It also highlights what it describes as “genocidal intent” in statements made by Israeli officials since the war began.

The organization said its findings are based on data collected over 20 months, including thousands of incidents across Gaza, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Israel. The report includes information from both B’Tselem’s own fieldwork and other vetted sources.

B’Tselem also directed criticism at the international community, particularly the U.S. and European governments, for “enabling genocide” through continued political and military support.

“Many state leaders have not only refrained from effective action to stop the genocide but enabled it—through statements affirming Israel’s ‘right to self-defense’ or the continued shipment of weapons and ammunition,” the report said.

It noted that such support continued even after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) found a “plausible risk” that Israel’s actions in Gaza could constitute genocidal acts.

The report comes amid growing international and domestic pressure on the Israeli government over conditions in Gaza. Images of malnourished children and warnings of famine have sparked global outrage. Governments including the United Kingdom, France, and Germany recently described the crisis as “man-made and avoidable.”

Domestically, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces mounting protests calling for an end to the war and the release of hostages, while members of his far-right coalition threaten to collapse the government if military operations cease.

On Monday, the presidents of five leading Israeli universities published an open letter to Netanyahu expressing deep concern. “We observe with shock the harrowing scenes emerging daily from Gaza, where hunger and disease continue to claim the lives of the most vulnerable,” they wrote. The letter also condemned “appalling” statements by Israeli politicians advocating for the destruction of Gaza and forced displacement of its population.

While B’Tselem is the first Israeli group to accuse the government of genocide, similar allegations have previously been made by international organizations and governments.

Last year, the UN Special Committee reported that Israel’s conduct in Gaza was “consistent with the characteristics of genocide.” Human Rights Watch accused Israel of “acts of genocide” in December 2024, and Amnesty International stated that there was “sufficient evidence” to suggest genocide was occurring.

In December 2023, South Africa filed a case against Israel at the ICJ, alleging genocide. Ireland later joined the case. In response, the UN’s top court ordered Israel to take “all measures” to prevent genocide in Gaza while it continues to examine the full merits of the case—a process that could take years.

Prominent individuals, including genocide scholar Omer Bartov, have echoed these accusations. In an op-ed published in The New York Times, Bartov wrote that the “inescapable conclusion has become that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people.”

Donald Trump fails to back Israel’s claim there’s ‘no starvation’ in Gaza

0

Donald Trump has challenged Israel’s claim that there is “no starvation” in Gaza during talks on the humanitarian crisis with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland.

Meeting at Trump Turnberry in Ayrshire, the US President and the Prime Minister discussed the ongoing Middle East conflict, with Trump describing the situation in Gaza as “a mess.”

“They have to get food and safety right now,” Trump said as he welcomed Starmer.

The Prime Minister, who planned to present a UK-led peace initiative, described the crisis as “an absolute catastrophe.” Over the weekend, he also held talks with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Britain, in collaboration with Jordan, is carrying out aid airdrops into Gaza and evacuating children needing medical care. Military planners have also been deployed to assist. However, the head of the UN’s Palestinian refugee agency has called such efforts a “distraction” that will not sufficiently address the growing hunger crisis.

Recent images of starving children and warnings from aid agencies have increased scrutiny on the Israeli government. Despite this, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed it is a “bald-faced lie” to say he is using starvation as a tactic.

“There is no policy of starvation in Gaza, and there is no starvation in Gaza,” Netanyahu said.

Trump offered a different view. When asked if he agreed with Netanyahu, he replied,

“I don’t know. I mean, based on television, I would say, not particularly because those children look very hungry.”He added that the US was providing significant humanitarian aid and acknowledged the UK’s contributions: “We’re giving a lot of money and a lot of food. And other nations are now stepping up. I know that this nation is right here.”

Standing beside him, Starmer said, “People in Britain are revolted at seeing what they’re seeing on their screens, so we’ve got to get to that ceasefire. Thank you, Mr President, for leading on that… America has done a lot on this. A lot of countries have done a lot.” When asked whether Israel had done enough to avoid civilian casualties, Trump responded, “I think nobody’s done anything great over there—the whole place is a mess. It’ll get straightened out, but it’s a mess.”

Starmer is expected to convene an emergency Cabinet meeting this week—unusual during Parliament’s summer recess to discuss the escalating crisis.

Downing Street stated that the Prime Minister is focusing on a pathway to peace, immediate relief efforts, and a long-term two-state solution. He is facing growing pressure, including from within his party, to formally recognise Palestinian statehood. France has already signaled its intention to do so in September.

A letter signed by 221 MPs from multiple parties—including 131 Labour MPs—urges the UK to follow suit at a UN meeting next week.

The UK government has maintained that recognizing Palestinian statehood is a question of “when, not if,” but insists it must come as part of a broader strategy ensuring long-term security for both Palestinians and Israelis.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage criticized Netanyahu’s handling of Gaza but warned against what he described as “rewarding Hamas” through premature recognition of Palestinian statehood, adding that the Israeli Prime Minister is “losing friends.”

“Uncovering the Truth: FIC Report Sheds Light on Past Corruption

By Timmy

The recent release of the 2019 FIC report has sparked questions about why it’s being brought to light now, in 2025. However, a closer look at the FIC’s operating procedures reveals that this is business as usual.

The FIC only disposes of a case if it has been fully investigated, and their annual reports include all pending cases, including old ones that may date back decades. This approach allows for a thorough examination of the genesis of corruption and sheds light on hidden rot.

In this case, the 2019 FIC report is likely highlighting cases of corruption committed by the PF party while it was in power. By investigating and reporting on these cases, the FIC is helping to bring transparency and accountability to government.

The current government’s commitment to fighting corruption is evident in its support for the FIC’s work. By allowing the FIC to operate independently and bring forth reports like this one, the government is demonstrating its dedication to rooting out corruption and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.

WHAT HAS ZAMBIA DONE WITH THE IMF’S $1.55 BILLION UNDER THE ECF?ECONOMIST Dr Lubinda Haabazoka makes a REFLECTION

WHAT HAS ZAMBIA DONE WITH THE IMF’S $1.55 BILLION UNDER THE ECF?

ECONOMIST Dr Lubinda Haabazoka makes a REFLECTION;

28th July, 2025

LUSAKA – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has released a total of $1.55 billion to Zambia as part of a three-year Extended Credit Facility (ECF). This funding has generated significant debate, particularly around its use and the impact on ordinary citizens. As we try to answer the question, “What has Zambia done with the money?”, it is first important to understand what the IMF is, what it does, and what this support represents for our country.

The IMF, established in 1944 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a global financial institution comprising over 190 member countries, including Zambia. Its primary objective is to promote global financial stability, support international trade, foster sustainable economic growth and contribute to the reduction of poverty worldwide.

To achieve these goals, the IMF provides several services. First, it offers financial support to countries experiencing balance of payment problems, helping them afford imports and meet debt obligations. Zambia, for instance, is benefiting from such support through the ECF. Second, the IMF provides technical assistance in areas such as tax systems, public financial management and central banking. Third, it plays a surveillance role by assessing the health of member economies and offering policy advice, notably through Article IV consultations. Finally, it offers training and capacity building to government institutions and personnel.

Zambia’s ECF programme with the IMF is aimed at stabilising the economy, supporting reform implementation and enabling debt management. While many Zambians may not yet feel a direct impact in their everyday lives, the programme has laid critical foundations for long-term economic resilience and inclusive growth.

So far, the funding has been utilised in several key areas.

Firstly, it has supported macroeconomic stabilisation. Part of the money has gone into strengthening Zambia’s foreign exchange reserves, which has helped stabilise the kwacha. Additionally, it has supported inflation control measures, which in turn have improved price predictability, especially for essential commodities like food and fuel.

Secondly, the funding has been instrumental in the debt restructuring process. It has helped create fiscal space that enabled the government to clear some arrears and engage creditors successfully. The credibility restored by IMF-backed reforms has allowed Zambia to make progress in its debt negotiations.

Thirdly, a portion of the funds has been invested in the social sector. The hiring of over 30,000 teachers and health workers has improved access to education and healthcare across the country. The Social Cash Transfer programme has also been scaled up to reach more vulnerable households, ensuring a safety net for those most in need.

Fourthly, governance and institutional reforms are underway. Institutions such as the Ministry of Finance, the Auditor General’s Office and the Zambia Revenue Authority have seen capacity enhancements. Furthermore, reforms in procurement systems, state-owned enterprise oversight and budget execution are being implemented to improve transparency and efficiency in public spending.

Looking forward, there are several proposed interventions that can maximise the benefits of the IMF support.

Zambia must invest in scaling up local production, particularly in agriculture and light manufacturing. This will reduce the country’s dependence on imports, help stabilise the kwacha and create employment opportunities.

There is also an urgent need to establish a youth employment fund. The government should channel part of the fiscal space created by IMF support into programmes that promote entrepreneurship, with a special focus on green sectors and digital innovation.

Social protection efforts should be expanded beyond cash transfers. Introducing food security schemes and transport subsidies for the most vulnerable would further cushion citizens against economic shocks.

Improved public engagement is essential. Citizens need to understand how government funds are spent and how ongoing reforms will benefit them. Transparency and accountability must become a core feature of public communication.

Finally, the Bank of Zambia must continue to pursue prudent monetary policies and promote export-led growth. Key sectors such as agriculture, mining and tourism should be prioritised to support sustainable foreign exchange earnings.

In conclusion, the $1.55 billion provided by the IMF is not merely financial support. It is a clear signal of international confidence in Zambia’s reform journey. While challenges persist, Zambia has taken bold steps towards economic transformation. What is now required is discipline, consistency and citizen empowerment.

The opportunity is before us. If managed well, this phase of economic adjustment and reform can mark a turning point for Zambia. It can lead to a more resilient, inclusive and prosperous future for all.

LUBINDA, SINKAMBA HAVE CONTRADICTED KBF… He must leave Tonse if he’s not ready to acknowledge PF as anchor party  – KAMBA

LUBINDA, SINKAMBA HAVE CONTRADICTED KBF – KAMBA
… He must leave Tonse if he’s not ready to acknowledge PF as anchor party

PF central committee member Kennedy Kamba says acting PF president Given Lubinda and Green Party leader Peter Sinkamba have confirmed to him that Kelvin Bwalya Fube, also known as KBF, issued the remarks he is trying to distance himself from in last Friday’s Daily Revelation lead story.

And Kamba has accused Fube of being happy with the malign activities by the government, through Mafinga member of parliament Robert Chabinga, against the PF as he would want to benefit from the same.

Daily Revelation in its last Friday’s edition quoted KBF, the Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP) leader, arguing that Lubinda could not continue to lead the Tonse Alliance when the substantive vice-chairperson, Dr Dan Pule, was around.

In his posting in the Tonse Presidential Whatsapp Group to contribute to the argument over the alliance chairmanship, and made available to Daily Revelation, KBF urged all alliance members to be realistic as they analysed issues they were currently facing, especially with regard to PF as a political party.

In his response to what someone had posted in the group, KBF argued that the likelihood of a PF convention was a pipedream that he could not even entertain, urging against pretense and giving “our friends in the PF false hopes” because that was wrong.

Following the publication of the story, KBF’s media team issued a statement dismissing the story and gave Daily Revelation 24-hours within which to retract and apologise to KBF.

There are disagreements between members in Tonse over constitution – Sean Tembo

There are disagreements between members in Tonse over constitution – Sean

The Tonse alliance has acknowledged disagreements involving members regarding the correct interpretation of the alliance constitution.

Daily Revelation yesterday ran a lead story where the newspaper correctly and accurately quoted Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP) leader Kelvin Bwalya Fube saying that PF acting president Given Lubinda should not continue as the Tonse alliance’s acting president when the substantive vice-chairman Dr Dan Pule was around.

Daily Revelation also reported that Fube indicated in the WhatsApp group for Tonse leaders that the lie that the PF is Tonse’s anchor party does not exist.

The submissions from Fube remains true despite concerted attempts by some to whitewash it. Actually, the Tonse Alliance has today acknowledged the existing disagreements in the alliance over the interpretation of the constitution.

In a press statement issued by the alliance today, alliance spokesperson and chairman of the disciplinary committee Sean Tembo spoke to the same.

“However, we also wish to acknowledge and admit that there exists some disagreements between some members, regarding the correct interpretation of the Alliance Constitution, but these internal disagreements are being amicably resolved internally.

It is worth noting that, in an Alliance, disagreements are normal and sometimes even healthy,” Tembo stated. “What is not healthy is when such internal disagreements are taken to the public using the media.

In this regard, the TONSE ALLIANCE would like to inform the general public that it has since issued a moratorium on all

ZIGCLAP DISAPPOINTED WITH GOVERNMENT’S SUSPENSION OF CDF LOANS

ZIGCLAP DISAPPOINTED WITH GOVERNMENT’S SUSPENSION OF CDF LOANS

….the move will further worsen the economic hardships facing citizens

Lusaka… Monday July 28, 2025 (SMART EAGLES)

The Zambian Institute of Governance and Civil Liberties Advocacy Platform (ZIGCLAP) has expressed disappointment over the government’s decision to halt the administration of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) loan component to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), cooperatives, and clubs.

In an interview with Smart Eagles Organization Executive Director Francis Chipili says the move—reportedly taken due to poor loan repayment rates—would further worsen the economic hardships facing citizens, particularly in light of the ongoing loadshedding and other economic pressures affecting business operations.

The ZIGCLAP Executive Director has questioned the rationale behind suspending the loan facility, arguing that poor loan recovery was a result of weak administration and not a justification for withdrawing financial support altogether.

Mr Chipili urged the government to focus instead on strengthening administrative systems and improving capacity-building efforts to ensure better loan performance.

“The CDF loan initiative is vital to supporting local enterprises and community-based economic activities,” Mr. Chipili said.

“Halting it now undermines the empowerment of SMEs and cooperatives that rely on this support for survival and growth.”

Mr Chipili further called on the government to clarify the current status of CDF disbursements to local councils, as recently announced, and questioned why many loan applicants in various districts had not yet received the funding despite public assurances.

He appealed to the government to reconsider its decision and reinstate the CDF loan component, ensuring that it remains a tool for inclusive development and economic empowerment.

We Need to Copy Rwanda on How to Make Lusaka a Clean and Green Garden City – Councillor Simataa

CLEANING FEELS LIKE A PUNISHMENT

We Need to Copy Rwanda on How to Make Lusaka a Clean and Green Garden City – Councillor Simataa

Kamwala Ward Councillor Hon. Mainda Simataa says there’s need to copy best practices from Rwanda on cleanliness, if the goal of making Lusaka achieve the status of a Clean, Green and Healthy City like Kigali is in Africa, is going to be achieved.

Speaking when he represented Lusaka City Mayor Chilando Chitangala at the launch of a clean-up exercise organized by Clean Cities initiative and graced by the Minister of Local Government Hon. Gift Sialubalo, Councillor Simataa said the only difference between Lusaka and Kigali in terms of cleanliness, is that Public Health Laws in Rwanda are religiously observed by all, and enforced with military discipline.

“The cleanliness we see in other cities did not happen by accident – citizens there have taken up the responsibility for their own health, but here, when you invite people for a clean-up, they feel like its a punishment. In as much as we need to build more capacity for our waste management systems and companies, cleanliness should start in our minds, in our homes and business places,” said Councillor Simataa.

DEMOCRATIC UNION CALLS FOR REAL ACTION, NOT POLITICAL POETRY

DEMOCRATIC UNION CALLS FOR REAL ACTION, NOT POLITICAL POETRY

The story of a Zambian teacher who took his own life after failing to provide for his family is more than a tragic headline. It’s a reflection of a deeper national wound one that continues to fester beneath the surface of unemployment, economic pressure, and a growing sense of hopelessness. And according to Ackim Anthony Njobvu, President of the Democratic Union, it’s time the country treated this as the crisis it truly is.

Speaking with Kumwesu Media in Lusaka, Njobvu did not mince his words. “We are seeing young people, some as young as 15, giving up on life. They are overdosing, hanging themselves, or vanishing into drug abuse. And now even our elders are joining in. This is not just a statistic; it’s a cry for help,” he said.

Over the past four years, Zambia has witnessed a noticeable spike in suicide cases, especially among youths in urban townships and rural districts. Reports of parents taking their lives due to poverty, or young men turning to drugs after failing to find jobs, are becoming frighteningly common. “We’ve allowed desperation to grow louder than hope,” Njobvu reflected.

The Democratic Union leader believes this crisis has roots in deep economic inequality and political neglect. “The truth is people are tired. Tired of promises. Tired of hunger. Tired of being told to ‘be patient’ while their children go to bed with nothing,” he said. “This is why people are losing the will to live.”

But rather than simply point fingers, Njobvu laid out his party’s strategy to fight back beginning with a direct investment in youth employment and mental wellness programs. “Through our Strategic Operations Program, we plan to create jobs not in theory, but in action. From farming blocks to local manufacturing and innovation hubs. People need work, not slogans,” he stated.

The Democratic Union also proposes using a portion of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) under what it calls the Chiefdom Filament Initiative. This plan aims to build youth academies and rehabilitation centers in partnership with local traditional leaders. “We want to create safe spaces for young people to learn skills, receive counselling, and stay away from substances,” he explained.

For many young people, especially in peri-urban areas, idleness has led them into what some call “chemical comfort” glue-sniffing, alcohol dependency, and heavier narcotics. “When you have nothing to wake up for, anything that helps you forget becomes attractive,” said Mutinta, a 23-year-old recovering addict from Kanyama. “I don’t want to die, but sometimes it felt easier.”

Njobvu insists that the lack of free mental health services is making things worse. “A person going through depression shouldn’t have to pay to be heard. Mental health support should be available at no cost, especially in this economy,” he said, adding that his party would push for the expansion of such services across public hospitals and clinics.

When asked if political leaders, including those in opposition, have failed the people, Njobvu was frank. “Yes, we haven’t done enough all of us. But let’s also be fair: we as the Democratic Union are still young, just three years old. We’ve made proposals to government, but most times we are ignored,” he said, his voice tinged with both frustration and resolve.

He was especially critical of the ruling party, accusing it of abandoning its promises to create mass employment. “You can’t campaign on jobs and deliver nothing. The result is what we see today young people lost, elders defeated, families broken,” he said. “It’s not just bad politics it’s deadly.”

Despite this, Njobvu still believes change is possible. But it requires sincerity, political will, and plans that go beyond PowerPoint slides and press statements. “Let’s stop announcing jobs and start creating them. Let’s stop talking about youth empowerment and empower them. That’s what people need.”

He also made an appeal to Zambian voters: “As we head into the 2026 elections, ask every political party, ‘how?’ How will you create jobs? How will you stop our people from dying silently? No more sweet words without sweat.”

Zambia impressed the world with drought response, Norwegian Minister praises Hichilema

Zambia impressed the world with drought response, Norwegian Minister praises Hichilema

NORWEGIAN Minister of International Development Asmund Grover Aukrust has commended the Zambian government for demonstrating exceptional leadership during the drought that affected the country last year.

Speaking at State House in Lusaka during a courtesy call on President Hakainde Hichilema, Mr Aukrust said Zambia had impressed the international community with how it managed the crisis, which could have turned into a severe humanitarian disaster.

“I know it’s been a challenging time also in Zambia, and I think you impressed the whole world with how you faced the drought last year. It could have ended in a much worse situation,” Aukrust said.

The Minister noted that with climate change continuing to cause more extreme weather conditions, Zambia’s example of preparedness and response should be emulated by other nations, especially those with limited resources.

Aukrust said Norway was keen to deepen its partnership with Zambia in areas such as renewable energy, agriculture and mining.

The Norwegian Minister is in the country as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral ties between Zambia and Norway, with both countries looking to enhance cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels.

HARRY MWAANGA NKUMBULA WARD 12 CDF ROAD PROJECTS HISTORICAL – COUNCILLOR AARON MWANZA

HARRY MWAANGA NKUMBULA WARD 12 CDF ROAD PROJECTS HISTORICAL – COUNCILLOR AARON MWANZA

Lusaka, 28th July 2025 — Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula Ward 12 Councillor, Mr. Aaron Mwanza, has hailed the upcoming road construction projects in his ward—funded through the 2025 Constituency Development Fund (CDF)—as a historic milestone for the people of Kanyama Constituency.

Councillor Mwanza announced that the construction of Estimer, Chifundo, and Lavania roads, covering a two-kilometre stretch, will finally connect John Laing and Chibolya to Ben Bella into Kafue Roundabout. He described the project as “a landmark achievement,” noting that despite the strategic importance of these roads, they have never received such attention before.

In addition, the Chibolya Police Road, which links Kalusha Bwalya Road to Kafue Road, along with Chishala Road connecting Kalusha Bwalya to Chiti-Mukulu in Kampasa area, are also set for upgrades, with contractors already on site.

“A proper road network is critical to improving people’s livelihoods,” Mr. Mwanza emphasized. “These roads will enhance access to health posts, schools, and other essential services, especially for expectant mothers and schoolchildren who previously struggled to navigate the area.”

Looking ahead, Councillor Mwanza expressed hope that even more roads would be developed in 2026, particularly addressing long-standing drainage issues.

He also revealed that the roads under construction will feature road markings and speed humps to enhance safety, thanks to a partnership between Lusaka City Council (LCC) and the Zambia Road Safety Trust. The initiative aims to ensure safe, sustainable, and inclusive road infrastructure.

However, Mr. Mwanza cautioned against illegal encroachments on public roads, noting that such actions increase project costs and obstruct the work of contractors. He urged all residents planning to build to seek prior planning approval from the LCC City Planning Department to avoid unnecessary disruptions.

In conclusion, the Councillor extended his gratitude to the residents of Ward 12 for demonstrating active citizenship. He acknowledged that the road projects being implemented are a direct result of public submissions highlighting priority needs for the ward and the greater Kanyama Constituency.

Ramaphosa releases progress report on State Capture recommendations

Ramaphosa releases progress report on State Capture recommendations

President Cyril Ramaphosa has released a new progress report on the implementation of the State Capture Commission’s recommendations, highlighting significant strides made in the fight against corruption and institutional reform.

The report, which builds on the government’s October 2022 response to the Zondo Commission, outlines key developments including the recovery of over R11 billion in stolen public funds, the enactment of eight anti-corruption laws, and ongoing criminal proceedings against dozens of implicated individuals and entities.

Four major state capture-related trials have concluded with convictions, and 51 individuals along with 27 companies are still facing prosecution. Additionally, efforts to hold public officials accountable include delinquency proceedings against 71 former executives of state-owned enterprises.

Despite these achievements, former Chief Justice Raymond Zondo has criticised the pace of implementation, particularly the lack of action against sitting Cabinet members implicated in corruption. The Presidency, however, insists that work is ongoing and that Ramaphosa remains committed to transparency and reform.

The report also details progress on new legislation to improve public procurement, protect whistleblowers, and strengthen oversight bodies. Analysts say the coming months will be critical in determining whether the remaining recommendations will be fully executed.

WE STARTED PURSUING MWAMBA BEFORE AUDIO, HE SHOULD JUST PRESENT HIMSELF – POLICE

The Zambia Police Service has urged PF Information and Publicity Chairperson Emmanuel Mwamba to present himself to law enforcement agencies due to an active bench warrant against him. Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga stated that the police had initiated pursuit of Mwamba prior to the recent controversy surrounding a leaked audio conversation.

According to Hamoonga, the police are not reacting to the audio conversation, but rather, they are following up on an existing warrant. The police spokesperson encouraged Mwamba to cooperate with the authorities, emphasizing that presenting himself would be in his best interest.

The development comes after Mwamba’s appearance on Diamond TV’s Breakfast Show, where he discussed the leaked audio conversation. The police maintain that the warrant against Mwamba is a separate issue that needs to be addressed. By presenting himself, Mwamba can resolve the matter and avoid further complications.

The call for Mwamba to present himself highlights the importance of cooperation with law enforcement agencies. The Zambia Police Service remains committed to upholding the law and ensuring that individuals with active warrants are brought to justice.

CORNELIUS MWEETWA CRITICIZES SOME ZAMBIANS AND OPPOSITION FOR IGNORING UPND ACHIEVEMENTS

UPND spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa says some Zambians and opposition political leaders have been blinded by bitterness and fail to appreciate the tangible realities of President Hakainde Hichilema’s positive results.

Mr. Mweetwa adds that opposition figures are engaging in political comedy by ignoring a host of policy achievements recorded since the UPND came into office in 2021.

The Lonely Journey of a Leader: Are You Ready for the Weight of Zambia?

The Lonely Journey of a Leader: Are You Ready for the Weight of Zambia?

By Dr Mwelwa

As Zambia marches toward the 2026 general elections, the air is thick with ambition. Billboards, press statements, political surveys, and backroom meetings all signal one thing: many want to lead. But the real question is not who wants power — the question is, who is prepared to carry its weight?

Leadership, in its truest sense, is not glamour. It is not handshakes and microphones. It is a lonely road paved with sacrifice, betrayal, and deep introspection. As the Greek philosopher Heraclitus once said, “Character is destiny.” Leadership is less about charisma and more about the internal fortitude to withstand storms — alone, misunderstood, and often unloved.

Consider Moses — the great liberator of the Israelites. When he answered the divine call to lead his people out of bondage, he didn’t walk into applause. He walked into conflict, doubt, and rebellion — even from his own people. At Mount Sinai, he ascended to commune with God, only to descend and find the people he led worshipping a golden calf. That is the burden of a leader: to give your soul for people who will mock your silence, and curse your presence.

Jesus, the greatest moral leader in history, knew loneliness deeper than any throne could promise comfort. He was misunderstood by his family, betrayed by a disciple, and abandoned by friends in his hour of need. He healed the masses, yet the same masses cried “Crucify him!” The crown of leadership is, more often than not, a crown of thorns.

Zambia’s own Kenneth Kaunda knew this pain. He led with vision and endured insults, sabotage, and the heartbreak of leading a nation still raw from colonial trauma. In his later years, he was ridiculed, imprisoned, and cast aside — yet he never stopped believing in peace and national unity. That’s what true leadership looks like: perseverance in the face of rejection.

Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in prison, and emerged not with vengeance, but with reconciliation. He was prepared not only to lead — but to lose everything in pursuit of justice. Can the politicians of today say the same?

Aspiring leaders must understand that leading Zambia is not about trending on social media, or being loudest at press conferences. It is about building consensus where division thrives, staying calm when your name is slandered, and putting the nation above your ego. You will be accused. You will be betrayed. You will sit in rooms where your integrity is tested, and your vision ridiculed. You will weep in silence. Are you ready?

In Plato’s “Republic,” Socrates argues that the best leaders are those who do not seek power for its own sake — but those who are burdened by the necessity to serve. Leadership is not a reward, but a responsibility. Not a career, but a calling.

And this is where we must pause as a nation.

Before we are dazzled by slogans or seduced by polished speeches, we must ask: Is this person ready to suffer for Zambia? Are they willing to lose friends, wealth, and comfort to serve us with clean hands and clear conscience?

The journey to State House must not begin with applause, but with self-denial. It must not be walked in the company of sycophants, but with the guidance of truth, courage, and deep national love.

Many desire to lead Zambia in 2026. But few are ready for the price. Let us not be fooled. Let us not be led by entertainers or opportunists. For this land cries out not for rulers, but for servant leaders.

And remember: The higher the mountain, the lonelier the summit. Not everyone who wants to climb belongs at the top.

CONCOURT DISMISSES SAME S33X AND OTHER STYLES PETITION

CONCOURT DISMISSES SAME SEX AND OTHER STYLES PETITION

THE Constitutional Court has refused to determine the petition in which a civil liberties organisation challenged the constitutionality of a piece of law which criminalizes same s3x acts and other styles, which are deemed “against the order of nature”

In this petition, the petitioners, who have issues with section 155(c) of the Penal Code, wanted a clear definition of what “against the order of nature” means.

Alternatively, they wanted section 155(c), which criminalizes certain sexual acts like same sex, to provide an exhaustive list of categories of sexual intercourse which can be performed in accordance with the “order of nature”

But last week, the Constitutional Court said it has no jurisdiction to determine this petition because issues raised have to do with the Bill of Rights.

The court found that the petition alleges contravention of Articles 17, 18, 19 and 23 of the Bill of Rights, which are to be handled by the High Court.

“This petition fails for lack of merit,” ConCourt deputy Judge president Arnold Shilimi said on behalf of six other judges.

In this petition, Zambia Civil Liberties Union (ZCLU), and its director Isaac Mwanza had sought a declaration that section 155(c) of the Penal Code is unconstitutional.

Section 155(a) (c) prohibits carnal knowledge by persons of the same sex or between male and female or between female and male, deeming it “against the order of nature”.

The petitioners argued that the section is discriminatory on the basis of sexual orientation, gender, gender identity and advances inequality of persons under the law in contravention of Article 8(d) of the Constitution.

They sought a declaration that the section is unconstitutional and contravenes Article 8(d) and 17(1) of the Constitution.

Articles 8(d) and 17(1) provides for the right of privacy, human dignity and equality between adults engaged in consensual relations or sexual activities and violates and undermines their autonomy and personal freedoms.

Alternatively, the petitioners sought a declaration that single or married people who consent to engaging in different categories of sexual intercourse are excluded from liability for a criminal offence under section 155(a) (c).

Further, they sought an alternative order that section 155(a) be repealed for being vague and ambiguous.

They also wanted clarity on the expression “the order of nature” with regards to sexual activities.

The respondents Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha while three church mother bodies- Council of Churches in Zambia, Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops and Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ), joined as interested parties.

Both Mr Kabesha and the church mother bodies had urged the court to uphold section 155 and dismiss the petition.

Mr Kabesha submitted that section 155(a) should be maintained, further dismissing contentions that the statute is discriminatory.

He argued that section 155 does not prevent anyone from having sex with another individual as long as the act is within the “order of nature”.

And rendering judgement, Judge Shilimi said the petition lacked merit owing to jurisdiction issues since it raises questions to do with the Bill of Rights.

Meanwhile, Mr Mwanza said he proceed to take the same matter to the High Court for determination.

“We shall be going to the High Court, because, as you have noticed, the Constitutional Court has even acknowledged that the issues that have been raised in this matter are very, very significant,” Mr Mwanza said.

Meanwhile, the church mother bodies also said when Mr Mwanza takes the case to the High Court, they will also be part of it, in defence of morals and national values in the Christian nation.

“NO MONEY, NO HONEY!” – CHISAMBA WIFE SLAPS HUBBY WITH 4-YEAR BEDROOM BAN FOR CHEATING, DEMANDS K3,000 SIN-OFFERING!

Like something ripped straight from the book of Revelations, the Matero courtroom turned into a fiery confessional as Sophia Kwale, a 32-year-old teacher from Chisamba, channeled both her ancestors and the Book of Proverbs to justify four years of marital celibacy because her husband brought home not just sin, but a whole child from the wilderness of adultery.

“For 1,460 days, I shut the gates of Eden!” Sophia declared, standing tall like a prophetess on Mount Sinai. “He defiled the covenant. He broke the vow. He planted his seed in foreign land and now he wants to eat the fruits of marriage? God forbid!”

The court fell into stunned silence as she revealed how she had demanded a K3,000 ndapusa a traditional offering of guilt as redemption for her husband Samuel Chongo’s “ungodly transgression.”

“In my tradition and in the eyes of God, when a man strays and fathers a child outside wedlock, he must come clean not just with words, but with sacrifice. I gave him a simple price for his sins: K3,000. He refused. So I did what any wise woman would do, I became the gatekeeper of righteousness.”

She said for four long years, she denied him all intimacy. “He cried like Samson after losing his strength, but I stood firm like Esther before the king. No gold, no glory.”

Then came the twist of biblical proportions. Last month, overcome with desperation and perhaps fearing divine punishment (or another cold night alone), Chongo returned like the Prodigal Son only this time, he came with K500 in hand, begging for one night.

“And I took the money, yes. Like Delilah collected the silver,” Sophia declared, pausing for dramatic effect. “But even then, I did not enjoy it. It was mechanical. Forced. Like Judas kissing Jesus no love, just betrayal.”

Court attendees gasped. One woman clutched her Bible and muttered, “These are the last days.”

When asked to respond, a visibly embarrassed Chongo mumbled, “But we are married. It’s written that the wife’s body does not belong to her alone…”

Before he could finish, Sophia fired back with a verse of her own: “And the husband must love his wife as Christ loved the Church not run around planting seeds in Babylon!”

The courtroom erupted. Even the magistrate had to pause to sip water and regain composure.

Outside court, spectators were heard saying, “This wasn’t just a case it was a sermon, a revival, and a cautionary tale in one!”

As judgment looms, many believe Sophia has already delivered hers with biblical thunder. And if there’s any lesson here, it’s this:

“The wages of sin is not just death sometimes it’s K3,000… plus 4 years of cold nights and judgment day every bedtime.”

Ex-Health Minister calls for strategic Budgeting in Health Sector

Ex-Health Minister calls for strategic Budgeting in Health Sector

Former Health Minister Dr. Chitalu Chilufya has urged the Ministry of Health to shift focus from mere budget compliance to strategic health systems strengthening as it prepares for the 2025 fiscal year.

Speaking during a parliamentary committee session on the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Budget Plan, Dr. Chilufya has warned that rigid alignment to indicative planning figures (IPFs) from the Ministry of Finance risks reducing the ministry to a “Ministry of Treatment of Diseases,” preoccupied with drugs, hospitals, and salaries.

“What is key when engaging the Ministry of Finance is not just to ask for improved resources,” he said. “You need to recalibrate your budget to speak to a functional health system and link it to your performance indicators.”

He has criticised the current budgeting model, saying it promotes stereotyped programmes that fail to meet the broader goals of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Dr. Chilufya has also flagged leadership and governance gaps at institutions such as the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA), which currently has no board in place.

“As we speak today, you don’t have a board at ZAMMSA. That’s corporate governance mischief of the highest order,” he said, warning that such oversight failures threaten the system’s credibility.

He has also questioned the omission of the Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI) from the ministry’s epidemic preparedness strategy.

“ZNPHI is silent in your submission. You talked about epidemic preparedness, but not about strengthening surveillance systems, which are crucial,” he observed.

Dr. Chilufya has stressed the need to prioritize health promotion, disease prevention, and wellness investments, warning that over-reliance on curative services is both costly and unsustainable.

“We need to see health promotion not masked under other programmes. Jumping quickly to clinical care is expensive,” he said.
