M’MEMBE URGES ZAMBIANS TO REMAIN HOPEFUL FOR 2025

…as he prays for justice to reign supreme, and for everyone to be driven by the spirit of goodwill towards one another

Lusaka… Wednesday December 25, 2024

Socialist Party (SP) President Dr Fred M’membe has urged Zambians to remain hopeful that the coming year 2025 would draw the country closer to a just society.

This was contained in his Christmas message to the nation.

Dr M’membe expressed trust that wherever people were, they would join him in a prayer for peace to prevail throughout the homeland, for justice to reign supreme, and for everyone to be driven by the spirit of goodwill towards one another.

He mentioned that his thoughts turned to all those in the country who would not be able to be with their families, including those held in police cells and prisons, and those admitted to hospitals.

The Opposition Leader noted that the year had been marked by moments of despair, such as loadshedding, high food prices, and ceaselessly increasing fuel prices.

As the year came to a close, he conveyed a message of hope, expressing confidence in the wisdom and good sense of the majority of Zambians to share the hope that the New Year would bring everyone nearer to a situation of justice and peace for all the people of the country.

Dr M’membe thanked all those, regardless of their political affiliation, who had contributed to the difficult process of resolving the country’s problems by peaceful means over the past year.

He urged them to persist in their noble efforts.

The SP President emphasised that everyone must strive to be inspired by a deep-seated love of the country without regard to tribe or political affiliations.

He called for a generosity of spirit that would enable people to outgrow hatred based on tribe or political affiliations and anchor all efforts in the common determination to build a more just, fair, and humane Zambia.

As people spend the holidays with their families and friends, his prayer is that none would be injured or killed as a result of criminal or politically inspired violence, and that none would die as a result of reckless driving on the roads.

(For Immediate Release)
Football Association of Zambia

CAF SANCTIONS FAZ FOR PITCH INVASION AND BREACH OF SECURITY

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has sanctioned the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) for breach of security standards and also pitch invasion by fans during the October 9, 2024 Group G Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between the Chipolopolo and Leone Stars.

FAZ general secretary Reuben Kamanga says CAF had fined Zambia $10, 000 for pitch invasion and failure to maintain adequate security measures during the match.

“CAF Disciplinary Board decides: To impose on the Football Association of Zambia a fine of USD 20,000 for pitch invasion and failure to maintain adequate security measures during the match,” Kamanga quotes correspondence from CAF.

“USD 10,000 of the aforementioned fine is suspended provided that the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is not found guilty of a similar incident for a period of twelve (12) months. If the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) commits a similar infraction during this period, the USD 10,000 suspended fine will be automatically imposed, notwithstanding other sanctions that the CAF Disciplinary Board may impose.”

The CAF note further reads, “The fine is to be paid within 60 days of notification of the present decision.”

He has advised fans to conduct themselves better in 2025 to avoid being sanctioned by CAF and FIFA.

“We have repeatedly warned fans to desist from throwing missiles on the pitch or invade the pitch during matches either in protest or celebration. The sanctions can be as high as being banned from playing matches at home. We appeal to fans to behave better in 2025 and make the stadium safer for families to attend matches,” he said.

Archbishop Msusa dismisses Chilima Commission inquiry report

Archbishop Msusa dismisses Chilima Commission inquiry report

By Our Reporter

Archbishop Thomas Luke Msusa of the Blantyre Archdiocese of the Catholic Church has dismissed results of the Commission of Inquiry on what led to the plane crash that killed Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima and eight others on June 10th this year.

Archbishop Msusa is the first higher level Catholic Church leader to react and dismiss findings on what caused this national tragedy.

Speaking during the evening Christmas Mass at Limbe Cathedral on Tuesday night, Msusa said that the truth on the Chilima plane crash has not been told and that time is coming when the nation shall know the truth.

“I am not satisfied at all with the findings and we are yet to be told the gospel truth. With time, the truth shall come out,” Msusa said to the ululation of the packed Cathedral.

The Archbishop said looking at what the nation was told and the pictures that went into circulation during the accident, it was very difficult to believe that the truth has been told.

“We were told the plane crashed in a thick forest, but pictures in circulation showed us that there was only a single tree and the site was also near the main road,” he said.

Msusa further recalled his sermon during the Mass Service for the late Saulos Chilima in Church that there is evidence on how the whole accident occurred on June 10th.

“I said in Ntcheu that someone took all pictures of the accident and saw everything that happened and one day, we shall all know the truth on how our Vice President and others were killed,” he said.

Msusa described the year 2024 as a difficult year following the killing of Chilima and eight others in the plane crash.

On 25th October this year, President Lazarus Chakwera appointed a Commission of Inquiry to investigate the accident the led to the death of Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima and eight others on June 10th.

Last week, President Lazarus Chakwera received a report from the Justice Jabber Alide Commission whose results mainly attributed the cause of the accident to bad weather and human error.

In his address after receiving the report, the President appealed to Malawians to come to terms with findings of the Commission.

Chakwera said it was important for the Malawi society to believe in the inquiry report for the nation to move on.

Alleged Ochestrator of Violent Protests in Mozambique, Deported from Botswana, Arrested in Zimbabwe

BEITBRIDGE – *The militant Professor Talent Rusere, chairman of the Southern Africa Human Lawyers Commission ,and a key figure in the ongoing violent protests in Mozambique, has been arrested at the Plumtree Border Post.*

Mozambique’s top court ,on Monday, confirmed the victory of ruling party Frelimo in the October election, which has sparked massive protests by opposition groups, who say the vote was rigged. *The Constitutional Council has the final say over the electoral process* and its ruling is likely to spark further protests in Mozambique, a Southern African country of close to *35 million people that Frelimo has governed since 1975.*

Rusere, known for his outspoken stance against alleged election rigging in Mozambique, was *deported from Botswana yesterday, while his asylum application was being processed.* It is believed he skipped the South African border when he sensed danger and went into Botswana.

The protests in Mozambique, sparked by accusations of electoral fraud in the October 9 presidential elections, have claimed multiple lives and led to widespread destruction of property.

Rusere had alleged that *over 226,000 Zimbabweans participated in the Mozambican elections, a claim he supported with videos shared by The Mirror newspaper, and had called for regional demonstrations against election rigging.*

The aftermath of the protests in Maputo, the capital, and its surrounding province, includes *fallen power poles, road barricades, and extensive vandalism of police units, fuel stations, and banks.*

*Essential services* have been disrupted, with *electricity and water supplies* restricted in some areas, and *passenger transportation* has been nearly halted.

*Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Mozambique, Victor Matemadanda*, has strongly denied reports of Zimbabwean nationals voting in Mozambique.

“There is no record or indication that Zimbabweans participated in the electoral process of Mozambique,” Matemadanda said, dismissing the claims as baseless.

The controversy surrounding the allegations has intensified scrutiny on *The Masvingo Mirror, which first published the report with Professor Rusere allegedly being the source*. Owned by *Matthew Takawona, a former opposition candidate for Gutu Central under the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC),* the newspaper has been accused of *politically motivated reporting, aimed at undermining Zimbabwe-Mozambique relations*.

Government sources have demanded that *The Masvingo Mirror provide evidence to substantiate its claims,* warning of potential diplomatic fallout. Critics and analysts have also raised scepticism over the logistics of 226,000 Zimbabweans voting in Mozambique, calling the figure implausible.

Meanwhile, the deportation of Rusere has raised eyebrows regarding Botswana’s political stance under President Duma Boko. While *Tswana activists had hoped Boko would champion democratic forces*, his administration’s growing ties with Harare suggest a different narrative.

Rusere, now in Zimbabwean custody, is expected to be taken to Harare as the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) continues to determine *charges against him*

LUNGU AND M’MEMBE FACE OFF BOTH WANT TO BE PRESIDENTS

By CIC Politics.

LUNGU AND M’MEMBE FACE OFF BOTH WANT TO BE PRESIDENTS.

We can only unite if  I am the presidential candidate, Fred M’membe in response to ECL’s call for opposition to unite, as Lungu disagrees with him maintaining that its him to be the president.

For those who don’t know these are sworn enemies that will never unite or agree for anything good in Zambia. Fred M’membe wants power to take on ECL for closing his post newspaper and ECL knows it the moment M’membe becomes president whatever Lungu is going through right now from UPND will be multiplied by 50 times.

M’membe is angry but he is not showing it and he is ready to fake it for the sole purpose of getting power and resurrect his might empire back to life.

Following the defeat of Kawambwa, Edgar Chagwa Lungu  on his Facebook page called for the opposition to move as a united alliance in order to face UPND, he said new tactics, lessons have been learnt and that ways to counter UPND must start with a call for the opposition unite and field one candidate to face UPND which seems so strong.

Socialist Party leader has other ideas by the way and that they are dominated by fixing Lungu badly and his entire family the same endgame Lungu is in today at the hands of law but M’membe would take it further beyond the law.

This is not the first time these two opposition leaders are talking and not agreeing with anything. The first discussion was when UKA was formed M’membe maintained that joining that alliance he has to be the president while Lungu also said the same until today the UKA alliance thanks to Saboi Imboela and his disagreements with ECL flopped now we have tonse Alliance. UKA could not participate in Kawambwa elections due to obviously no money or political grip to waste but they are strong on social media.

The discussion is back after Kawambwa elections with both Lungu and M’membe still not agreeing who should lead the other. If all goes to the waste Lungu would prefer UPND continues for they are lesser devils than M’membe who will amplify and not honour anything they would agree on the moment he wins.

“Of Charms, Chameleons, and Presidential Perils: A Satirical Tale of Witchcraft and Politics in Zambia”

By Dr Lawrence Mwelwa

As the world races toward an era defined by artificial intelligence, space exploration, and groundbreaking medical innovations, Zambia has found itself at the center of a headline that seems ripped from the annals of medieval folklore. While nations unveil self-driving cars and quantum computers, Zambia’s Christmas offering to global newsfeeds is a courtroom drama involving chameleons, charms, and alleged witchcraft. The sheer absurdity of it all—the suggestion that ancient superstition could be weaponized against a modern head of state—has left many wondering if Africa’s progress is being overshadowed by relics of its past. This story, a bizarre collision of tradition and modernity, is as unsettling as it is emblematic of the challenges of bridging ancient beliefs with contemporary governance.

In a courtroom saga more fitting for a fictional thriller than a modern democracy, two traditional healers, Jasten Mabulesse Candude and Leonard Phiri, stand accused of plotting to harm President Hakainde Hichilema through supernatural means. Their supposed weapon of choice? A live chameleon and an assortment of charms, allegedly imbued with powers capable of bypassing state security. Candude and Phiri, however, have denied the charges, insisting they are certified traditional healers practicing their ancestral craft. “I admit I have the charms; that’s my work,” Candude boldly declared, as if defending the possession of gardening tools, not the alleged instruments of presidential doom.

Police investigations, with an apparent seriousness that borders on parody, claim the men were hired by Nelson Banda, a fugitive linked to opposition politics, to carry out the plot. Banda, reportedly the younger brother of a runaway MP, is said to have paid K16,500 upfront, with the promise of millions more upon the mission’s success. One is left to wonder if the chameleon, an unwilling participant in this alleged conspiracy, was given a down payment in insects for its role.

The charges, brought under Zambia’s Witchcraft Act, rest on the premise that the accused professed knowledge of witchcraft and possessed dangerous charms. This raises profound questions: How exactly does one discern a harmful charm from a harmless one? Did the police consult experts, perhaps even a rival witch doctor, to verify the accusations? Could this case, in its bizarre unfolding, be vindication for Professor Nkandu Luo, who once proposed a degree in witchcraft at the University of Zambia and was widely mocked for it?

Critics have pointed out the timing of this witchcraft spectacle, noting that Leonard Phiri is a popular political figure in Petauke, where a by-election looms. Is this a convenient effort to discredit a formidable opponent, cloaked in the absurd theater of superstition? If political rivals cannot be defeated at the ballot box, why not accuse them of plotting to harm the president with ancient magic? It’s a tactic so cynical it borders on genius.

Amid the farce, the absurdity reaches its peak when one considers the implications of the allegations. Are we to believe that a chameleon, an unassuming creature known for changing colors and clinging to branches, could single-handedly breach Zambia’s state security apparatus and bring harm to the president? One imagines the reptile, if it could speak, rolling its eyes and muttering, “You fools, I’m just a lizard.”

This story, with its surreal mix of superstition, politics, and satire, has done more than provide comic relief; it has served as a sobering reminder of the tensions between tradition and progress. While other nations celebrate advancements in science and technology this Christmas season, Zambia grapples with a narrative that feels more at home in ancient folklore. In this courtroom, we see the challenges of reconciling a modern state with the remnants of its cultural past—and perhaps a cautionary tale about the power of political narratives to weave even the most fantastical stories into the fabric of reality.

It’s high time M’membe grew up and acted responsibly – Hamasaka

STATE House Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka has advised Socialist Party leader Fred M’membe to graduate into adulthood and act responsibly.

This follows M’membe’s recent article on the reintroduction of the Voluntary National Service Programme where he is accusing President Hakainde Hichilema of attempting to establish a “parallel army” through the programme.

Hamasaka stated that the opposition leader’s claim is both shocking and disappointing especially for the fact that it is coming from someone aspiring to lead Zambia.

He added that M’membe’s article reveals how unaware he is of a “parallel army” in youths commonly referred to as “junkies” which already exists.

“We have noted a long rambling statement from the Socialist Party President, Fred M’membe, in which he makes a series of astonishing and baseless allegations against Republican President Hakainde Hichilema.”

“This claim is both shocking and disappointing, especially coming from someone aspiring to lead Zambia. It reveals a lack of awareness that a “parallel army” of sorts already exists in the form of youths commonly referred to as “junkies” who are involved in harmful activities and terrorising citizens in our communities,” said Hamasaka.

Hamasaka said the opposition should occasionally commend efforts aimed at addressing societal challenges by President Hakainde Hichilema, instead of perpetuating unfounded allegations.

“The ZNS voluntary training programme is designed to equip young people with essential skills in trades such as plumbing, carpentry, tailoring and other artisan professions. These skills will empower them to secure employment or start their own ventures, contributing positively to the economy and staying away from lawlessness,” he added.

“In case Mr. Mmembe is not aware, currently President Hichilema’s government is offering free education policy which has been embraced by Zambians with millions of children going back in classrooms.”

Hamasaka explained that the Head of State is aware that not all the school leavers will be absorbed by colleges and universities and later the formal jobs, hence the idea of voluntary ZNS programme and many other skills training programmes being implemented to address what would be another challenge in future.

”M’membe is welcome to enroll his misguided youths from his outdated Socialist Party, which appears to be a family-run organisation controlled by himself, his sister, and daughter,” he advised.

State House further challenged M’membe to tour the country and inform the youth and their parents not to participate in the ZNS skills training if he feels it is a scam.

“Let them argue that it is better for these young people to remain on the streets as “junkies,” terrorising communities and succumbing to substance abuse,” Hamasaka explained.

“Fred M’membe’s strategy is clear, make wild, incendiary statements about national security, and when questioned by law enforcement, claim that democratic freedoms are under threat to gain sympathy and funding from sponsors.”

Hamasaka urged M’membe to avoid inciting and misleading citizens for his own benefit.

“For once, let him make constructive contributions to the nation’s progress. It’s time for him to graduate into adulthood and act responsibly,” stated Hamasaka.

Media Spin or National Distraction? UPND’s Strategy and the Witchdoctor Assassination Tale- Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

Media Spin or National Distraction? UPND’s Strategy and the Witchdoctor Assassination Tale

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

I recently watched a video in which President Hakainde Hichilema proudly revealed that he had hired a media expert firm from Kenya to assist his media team and cabinet ministers in “explaining” to citizens what the government has accomplished since taking office in 2021. Initially, I was stunned. Why the need for such an effort? If the government had genuinely achieved anything significant, shouldn’t the effects be obvious to the people by now? If the UPND’s policies were working, we would already be experiencing tangible improvements. Instead, we are left with an economy in freefall, prolonged hours of load-shedding, an ever-escalating cost of living, and a growing sense of despair. What exactly is being “explained” to the Zambian people?

Fast forward to today. After the UPND hired a media expert from Kenya, we are now confronted with absurd and alarming developments. One of the more outrageous stories to emerge involves two alleged witchdoctors supposedly sent by Nelson Banda, the younger brother of Hon. JJ Banda, to assassinate President Hichilema using a live chameleon and other so-called charms. This outlandish narrative is not just bizarre; it raises serious questions about the intentions behind its creation.

Is This the Advice the Media Expert Gave to UPND?

Could this be the kind of “strategic communication” the media expert recommended to the UPND? Could this bizarre assassination plot, involving witchdoctors and chameleons, really be the product of professional media guidance? What exactly was the expert hired to do—help the government present compelling policies or create sensational distractions that shift focus from the administration’s failures? If the government had delivered on its promises, there would be no need for such absurd stories to divert attention. Citizens should already be experiencing the benefits of good governance. Instead, we are left buried in fabricated stories that do nothing to address the nation’s real problems.

Rather than focusing on tangible reforms that improve the lives of ordinary Zambians, it seems the UPND has chosen to manipulate the media. This raises an uncomfortable question: Was the media expert hired to help the government focus on real, meaningful progress or simply to create smoke and mirrors—sensational narratives that offer no real solutions? This “media strategy” seems less about communication and more about political deflection.

International Attention and the Danger of Media Manipulation

What’s even more troubling is the international attention this witchdoctor assassination story has garnered. This utterly ridiculous claim has made its way into international news outlets, deepening suspicions that this could be part of a broader, calculated attempt to manipulate both local and global public opinion. Why is this nonsensical tale being spread beyond Zambia’s borders? Is it an effort to deflect attention from Zambia’s deteriorating economic crisis and political repression?

The question lingers: Why is the Zambian government going to such lengths to ensure that these sensational stories make their way into the international spotlight? Could this be an attempt to gain global sympathy or simply an effort to divert attention from the harsh realities facing the country? This only reinforces the suspicion that the UPND has mastered the art of media manipulation, even when it has nothing of substance to show for its actions.

Who Is the Complainant in the Witchcraft Story?

The most glaring question that remains unanswered is: Who is the complainant in this witchcraft story? In any legitimate criminal case, the identity of the complainant is crucial for verifying the authenticity of the accusations. Yet, the origins of this witchdoctor assassination plot remain shrouded in mystery. Who is claiming that President Hichilema was targeted for assassination, and why hasn’t this critical detail been clarified?

The fact that the authorities have failed to identify or even acknowledge the complainant behind these accusations only deepens the suspicion that this could be a politically motivated fabrication. If the authorities cannot even trace the origins of this claim, why should the Zambian people trust such a far-fetched story? This entire episode raises more questions than answers, and the lack of transparency only undermines the credibility of the government further.

The Genesis of the Witchdoctor Assassination Story

Another crucial question is: How did this story even begin? What prompted the wild claim that Nelson Banda, Hon. JJ Banda’s brother, was involved in an assassination plot? Was this wild tale planted as part of a larger, more nefarious strategy to discredit the opposition, distract from the real issues, or manipulate public opinion? Given the current political climate in Zambia, where opposition figures like Hon. JJ Banda are increasingly subjected to harassment and intimidation, it’s not hard to see how this witchdoctor story could have been deliberately fabricated to serve a political agenda.

Hon. JJ Banda has already been a victim of repeated harassment by UPND officials, including intimidation and even abduction. Could this witchdoctor assassination claim be part of an orchestrated campaign to demonize him and other vocal critics of the government? The timing of this story is deeply suspicious, especially when set against the backdrop of Zambia’s worsening economic situation and political repression. The fact that this ridiculous tale is gaining traction only strengthens the belief that it is intended to distract from the far more pressing concerns of the Zambian people.

A Media Strategy That Detracts from Real Issues

In conclusion, the hiring of a Kenyan media expert and the subsequent emergence of the witchdoctor assassination story only intensify concerns about the UPND’s media strategy. Instead of focusing on addressing the country’s real, tangible problems, the government seems far more invested in shaping a narrative that distracts from its failures. The Zambian people deserve more than mere sensationalism—they deserve accountability, transparency, and meaningful solutions to the pressing issues they face.

The government can hire media experts to help craft its narrative, but one fundamental question remains: Will the media expert help the UPND focus on delivering real solutions to Zambia’s problems, or will they continue to prioritize controlling the narrative and diverting attention from their failures?

The Zambian people are not interested in stories about witchdoctors and magical charms. They are looking for real solutions—jobs, affordable living costs, political stability, and a government that prioritizes their well-being over media spin. The time for explanations is long over. Zambians deserve action, not distractions.

It is time for the UPND to stop hiding behind the veil of media manipulation and confront the harsh realities of their governance failures. Zambians have suffered long enough. We need answers, and we need them now. The clock is ticking.

Edgar Lungu’s daughter Chiyeso loses application for retention of personal property and stay of forfeiture judgment

Chiyeso loses application for retention of personal property and stay of forfeiture judgment

FORMER president Edgar Lungu’s daughter Chiyeso might not retain her status of landlady or receive chicken orders soon, as the Economic and Financial Crimes Court has declined to stay its judgment forfeiting her tainted properties on Chagwa drive in State lodge area to the State.

The court says there are no compelling reasons advanced by Chiyeso to persuade it into stopping the Director of Public Prosecutions from taking over the properties, and using them in manner the State wishes, within the confines of the law.

Chiyeso asked the Court to stay the execution of the judgement pending determination of her appeal against the confiscation of her two farms with a high-cost house, four chicken runs, and three flats worth K9, 375, 438.62 on Chagwa Drive in State lodge area.

She has challenged the forfeiture of her properties in the Court of Appeal arguing that the EFCC was wrong when it refused to consider her evidence that the properties were given to her by her father a former ‘top notch’ lawyer and former president.

Chiyeso who is also a lawyer protested the confiscation of her personal possessions together with her tainted properties, by the State and demanded the release of the same.

She said the acts by the State to lock up her electronic appliances and movable properties which were not ordered in the judgement of the Economic and Financial Crimes Court is beyond what the Court ordered for confiscation.

Emmanuel Khondowe, a Senior Investigations Officer of the Drug Enforcement Commission, under the Anti- Money Laundering Investigations Unit disputed the assertions by Chiyeso arguing that the State did not rush to her farms as alleged, as the forfeited properties were already under seizure and in control of the State even before the Judgment was rendered

He said on the day of taking over the Properties, Chiyeso’s husband was present and did not claim that there were personal chattels belonging to her.

Khondowe said Chiyeso disassociated herself from the containers and their contents by lying that they did not belong to her, but to her unnamed tenant.

He said her personal items were locked pursuant to the Judgment and the contents that are locked up in the three containers are still under investigations, as they are reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Khondowe added that there are no prospects of the appeal succeeding and that there are no personal chattels to be duly released by the Court.

Ruling on behalf of judges Ann Ononuju and Vincent Siloka, judge Ian Mabbolobbolo said,
Chiyeso’s application has no leg to stand on and is improperly before Court.

“Undoubtedly, the preserve to delve into the details of the merits or otherwise of the Appeal does not lie with ourselves. That notwithstanding, the authorities above enjoin us to preview or assess the prospects of the Appeal succeeding. In doing so we have perused our Judgement of 16th April, 2024, sought to be challenged in the context of the Grounds of Appeal,” he said

“In our considered view, the Grounds of Appeal do not reveal any special circumstances, let alone any realistic prospects of succeeding. We have not found “something more” that would bring this case within the exacting requirements set out in the various authorities for grant of a Stay of Execution of Judgment pending Appeal.”

Judge Mabbolobbolo said owing to the fact that no exceptional circumstances have been demonstrated or that it is desirable, necessary and just so to do, the order to stay the execution of Judgment pending appeal, cannot be granted to Chiyeso.

She was ordered to pay costs to the Director of Public Prosecutions, to be taxed in default of agreement.

ERB PRESS STATEMENT ON LOOMING FUEL SHORTAGE

ERB PRESS STATEMENT ON LOOMING FUEL SHORTAGE
The Energy Regulation Board- ERB would like to dispel reports circulating on social media that there is a looming fuel shortage in the country and assures stakeholders and members of the public that the country has sufficient diesel stocks and is working to address the logistical challenges affecting petrol imports.

As you may be aware, diesel is imported by both road and pipeline with about 2.8 million litres coming in through the pipeline on a daily basis resulting in the sufficient diesel stocks observed at most retail sites. Petrol on the other hand is wholly imported by road, and the logistical challenges being faced are affecting the turnaround time resulting in some retail facilities stocking out on this product. As of 23rd December, 2024, out of 616 sites countrywide, 587 were selling diesel while 502 were selling petrol with 20 sites dry on both products.

As reiterated in our last joint briefing held with the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) on Friday 20th December 2024, the logistical challenges being faced through the Zimbabwe route are due to the introduction of refundable transit taxes in that country. This has resulted in transporters opting to use alternative routes through Chanida and Nakonde border points, resulting in extended transit times.

The ERB has since directed OMCs to put in place measures to ensure the timely delivery of petroleum products, particularly petrol, to their respective sites. Further, OMCs have been implored to pre-clear their imported products to avoid unnecessary delays at the border points.
In an attempt to further reduce on the transit time, the ERB in collaboration with the Road Traffic and Safety Agency (RTSA) has temporarily relaxed the movement restrictions for Petroleum Road Tank Vehicles and extended the operating hours, beyond 18:00 hours. This intervention will ensure a quicker turnaround time.

The ERB continues to actively monitor the situation to ensure timely intervention and availability of petroleum products on the market. Motorists and the general public are therefore advised against panic buying to avoid exacerbating the situation as efforts to restock sites that do not have petrol are ongoing.

If in need of further information on the current supply situation, please contact the ERB through its offices in Lusaka, Kitwe, Livingstone and Kasama, on the various social media platforms or the ERB Toll-Free Line 8484.

Maresca Hailed For Change Of Fortunes At Stamford Bridge

Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez has credited Enzo Maresca for his upturn in form in the last few games after struggling to live up to his price tag in the first 18 months at Stamford Bridge.

Fernandez joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023 for a reported fee of 106 million pounds which was a British record transfer deal at the time.

He started the first six league games of the season before he was dropped to the bench in favour of Romeo Lavia due to poor performances, but the Argentine star has rediscovered his form in recent games.

Since making his return to the first team in November, Fernandez has looked revitalised, scoring three goals, and four assists in seven Premier League games to help Chelsea climb to second on the log.

The World Cup winner has credited manager Enzo Maresca for his change of fortunes at Stamford Bridge.

He said: “I learned the position in which I had to play, over time I got the idea of what the coach wanted.

“He (Maresca) explained to me what he wanted and I was getting the concept, reading the games. There is still a long way to go.

“On a personal level I have been feeling very good. The team has shown a very strong character, always working and with humility and showing that great things can be achieved. There is still a long way to go.

“When I arrived it was very difficult, the first year and a half here: change of coaches, the club wasn’t doing well, personal injuries.”

Fernandez also revealed that the price tag did not affect him after his record-breaking move in 2023.

“It didn’t affect me. I tried to take it responsibly, with enjoyment, without pressure. I was not satisfied with what I had been showing, then I got injured, many adverse things happened, I tried to move forward but today I feel very good, as does the team and we hope to continue on this path.”

Fernandez and his Chelsea teammates will be hoping to return to winning ways when they take on Fulham at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day.

The Blues are currently four points behind table-toppers Liverpool, and two points above third-placed Arsenal.

Snoop Dogg’s Daughter Announces Pregnancy: ‘I’m Having A Mini Me’

Snoop Dogg‘s daughter Cori Broadus has made a big announcement hot on the heels of the release of a reality show about her relationship with fiancé Wayne Deuce: she and Wayne are having a baby.

Tha Doggfather’s only daughter told E! News, which shared the information in a story published on Monday (December 23).

“I found out Oct. 28,” Cori said. “This baby is so unplanned, but we are soooooo blessed.”

Despite Broadus having been diagnosed with lupus as a child, she went on, “me and the baby are doing perfectly fine. I’m having a girl.

“My mom and dad were so excited, their baby girl is having a baby. My dad was hoping for a grandson, though.”

Cori said that she and Deuce are looking forward to being parents.

“I’m just excited to love on my baby girl and make her feel like she’s the prettiest in the world,” she said. “Growing up, I wasn’t the most confident and never felt like I fit in, so just to instill all the beautiful things in her head at a young age. And I’m having a mini me.

“Wayne said he’s excited to have someone that looks like me. He knows she is going to be so beautiful and he just can’t wait to build things for her and give her all the love in the world.”

Cori and Duece were engaged in November 2022, but pushed back their wedding after she suffered a stroke earlier this year. However, she’s fully recovered and full steam ahead on planning, which was documented in the series, which premiered on December 5.

As previously reported, Cori Broadus was rushed to the hospital in January after suffering what she described as “a severe stroke.”

The cause behind the episode was initially unknown, though she has been battling lupus — an autoimmune disease for which there is currently no cure — for most of her life.

“I had a severe stroke this am [two teary-eyed emojis] I started breaking down crying when they told me,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories while revealing the news.

Denzel Washington Gets Ready To Do God’s Work After Baptism

Actor Denzel Washington is considering a new role in life as he gets closer to retirement. The multi-award-winning performer is said to be on his way to becoming a minister of the gospel.

The Gladiator 2 actor began his spiritual journey on December 21, reportedly after he was baptized at the Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ.

The ceremony, according to sources, was streamed live on Facebook by the First Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ Eastern, New York.

Denzel was reportedly seen in a white baptismal gown before changing into another casual gown, with his wife Pauletta making a few statements.

“Forty-six years later, here I’m still standing next to him as only God will have it. So I’m very proud of you. You are the head of our house and you have set a great example for our children, who are now adult children who know the difference because we have shown them the difference,” she stated.

Denzel explained why he was embarking on the spiritual journey, emphasizing it was a perfect moment to take the step.

“In one week I turn 70… It took a while but I’m here. If [God] can do this for me, there’s nothing He can’t do for you. The sky literally is the limit,” he said. The ceremony was said to be his first step to getting a license to become a Minister of the Gospel.

In October, Pauletta Washington, wife of actor Denzel Washington, provided some peek into what has kept their marriage going for over four decades.

She granted an interview at the premiere of the upcoming movie The Piano Lesson, which their 33-year-old son, Malcolm Washington, directed.

Mr. and Mrs. Washington tied the knot in June 1983, and now Pauletta believes “lots of prayers” and “basic love” for one another have been key ingredients in their long-lasting relationship.

“We work at it…It’s not that you sit there and you go like, ‘Oh, you know…There are a lot of prayers for strength for staying in a forgiveness mode and both parts, mine and his. But it’s the basic love that we have for each other,” she stated.

Pauletta’s remarks attracted commendation from some social media users who urged them to keep up the spirit of the union.

Protests Erupt In Mozambique After Daniel Chapo Is Named President In Court Ruling

0

The streets of Maputo, Mozambique, have once again become a battleground as protests reignite following the Constitutional Court’s decision to uphold the controversial victory of ruling party candidate Daniel Chapo in the October presidential election.

The protests, which turned violent when preliminary results were announced, have only intensified as opposition leader Venâncio Mondlane continues to challenge the legitimacy of the election outcome, accusing authorities of rigging the vote in favour of the Frelimo party.

Protesters Demand Justice Amid Growing Violence
Demonstrators, undeterred by heavy security measures, have taken to the streets chanting Mondlane’s name, burning tyres, erecting road barricades, and clashing with police forces. Authorities have responded with tear gas to disperse the crowds, escalating tensions further.

The unrest has turned deadly, with over 110 fatalities reported by local monitoring group Plataforma Decide. Allegations against the police claim that many of these deaths resulted from excessive force. However, police commander Bernardino Rafael defended his officers, stating they acted in self-defence under attack.

Opposition Leader in Exile Calls for Change
Venâncio Mondlane, who fled the country after the killing of two of his aides in October, has continued to rally his supporters from exile. In a recent social media post, he warned of a potential “popular uprising” if the election results were not overturned. Despite his absence, his influence remains strong, fueling ongoing demonstrations across the country.

In an interview earlier this month, the 50-year-old evangelical pastor reiterated his refusal to accept the results, describing them as a blatant manipulation of the electoral process.

Election Results Revisited, But Disputes Persist
The Constitutional Court’s recent ruling slightly revised Chapo’s margin of victory, reducing his vote share from an initial 71% to 65%, while Mondlane’s share increased from 20% to 24%. However, the adjustments have done little to quell allegations of electoral fraud.

International observers have also criticized the election, citing irregularities such as altered figures during the vote count. Meanwhile, the electoral commission has denied any wrongdoing, asserting that the process was free and fair.

The unrest has disrupted daily life in Maputo and surrounding areas. The normally bustling streets have turned eerily quiet, with businesses shuttered and residents staying indoors for safety. This stark change reflects the severity of the ongoing crisis, which has persisted since protests began on October 21.

No Pressure To Play Rashford – Amorim

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has revealed that he is not under pressure from the club’s board to play Marcus Rashford, who has been left out of the team in the last three games.

The Portuguese manager admitted that Rashford was dropped due to his poor performances in training, and the English star expressed his desire to seek a new challenge in an interview last week.

There have been rumours on social media that Amorim’s decision to drop Rashford was influenced by the new ownership led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

The former Sporting Lisbon said the decision to drop Rashford was taken by him with no internal influence from the ownership.

He said: “Yeah, it’s my decision. He wants to play, he’s trying. It’s my decision. Only my decision. I spoke with a lot of players individually, during training, so I try to do things and I am doing things my way and that is the only way I know. If I don’t do that, I will lose myself, and I will not lose myself, I know what I am doing.

“When I feel that is the right moment, I will change something. Until then, I will continue to think about what is best for the team. I speak with him every day, not about the interview, about the performance.”

He also revealed that the situation is not a distraction for the club despite losing two consecutive games against Tottenham and Bournemouth.

Amorim said: “I don’t think so. Not for me. Not for the other players. Because everybody is there every day during training, so they understand, and that is the key point.

“For the media and for the other people, I cannot control that, but I am really focused and they know. I am so clear in my message, everybody in Carrington knows what I’m talking about and what I want from Marcus and everybody else, so it’s not a distraction for us. Maybe it is for the media but that is not my concern.

Amorim demanded improvement from Rashford to regain his place in the team.

He said: “Like any other player, the best that they can be. If you have big talent: big performance, big responsibility, big engagement, like push forward everybody in this moment.

“And some guys have a big responsibility here because they are here for a long time. So this is maybe one of the lowest moments in our club, so we have to face it and be strong in this moment, that’s what I want for every player on the team.”

The Red Devils will spend Christmas Day at the bottom of the league table for the first time since 1989 after losing three of their six Premier League games under Amorim.

He added: “We know we cannot let this become normal. I understand it’s a tough moment and it’s on me. We cannot think about that, we just have to think about improving, to understand the context and not focus on what happened in the past, but see what we can do so it doesn’t happen again.”

According to reports in England, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and other members of the board have decided to allow Amorim decide what happens next with Rashford.

The Red Devils are languishing in the 13th position on the Premier League log with 22 points from 17 games, and they will return to action against fellow strugglers Wolves on Thursday at the Molineux Stadium.

Wendy Williams’ son shares update on her condition

Wendy Williams’ son Kevin Hunter Jr. recently shared an update on his mother’s health, and it appears the former media personality is on the mend. Per TMZ, Kevin, who shared the update on Monday, stated that his mother is currently “sober and wants to come home.”

There are, however, no details about where Williams, 60, is currently staying. Her guardian Sabrina Morrissey in a new legal filing is claiming that the former talk show host’s struggle with dementia has made her “permanently incapacitated.”

Kevin said their family wants her back home, and they’re doing everything possible to make that happen. He also said “isolation is killing her faster than anything else.”

One of the last times Williams was seen publicly was at Florida International University where she attended Kevin’s graduation. She also appeared to be in high spirits.

Morrissey in the court filing states that the 60-year-old “has been afflicted by early-onset dementia and, as a result, has become cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated,” TMZ reported.

Williams’ team in February announced she had been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. Williams’ team in the press release explained they decided to share the update to “correct inaccurate and hurtful rumors about her health.” They stated that Williams in 2023 was officially diagnosed with the disease after she underwent “a battery of medical tests.”

A year before her diagnosis, Williams was placed under legal guardianship to manage her health and finances. Morrissey is also involved in a legal battle with the Where Is Wendy Williams? documentary, and the recent court filing is reportedly linked to that.

Morrissey, in a February lawsuit, attempted to have the court bar the documentary’s release. But Lifetime released it, and the documentary cast a spotlight on Williams’ health and alcohol issues.

Morrissey in the filing is seeking to protect Williams’ privacy and wants the court to remove certain details about the case, TMZ reported. These include details about Williams’ health, her finances as well as her relationship with her family.

Williams’ eponymous talk show was canceled in 2022 after 13 seasons because of her health issues. Her team in the February press release said that her health disorders had “already presented significant hurdles” in her life.

“As Wendy’s fans are aware, in the past she has been open with the public about her medical struggles with Graves’ Disease and Lymphedema as well as other significant challenges related to her health,” her team said elsewhere in the statement.

“The decision to share this news was difficult and made after careful consideration, not only to advocate for understanding and compassion for Wendy, but to raise awareness about aphasia and frontotemporal dementia and support the thousands of others facing similar circumstances,” the statement also said.

“Unfortunately, many individuals diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia face stigma and misunderstanding, particularly when they begin to exhibit behavioral changes but have not yet received a diagnosis.”

Gay couple sentenced to 100 years imprisonment for r@pe of adopted sons

A gay couple from Georgia, William Zulock, 34 and Zachary Zulock, 36, have been sentenced to 100 years imprisonment without the possibility of parole for committing heinous s£xual offences against their adopted sons, according to the Walton County District Attorney’s office.

The victims, two brothers now aged 12 and 10, were adopted through a Christian special-needs organization.

The couple presented a facade of a loving family, residing in an affluent Atlanta suburb. Zachary worked in banking, while William held a government job, maintaining an outward image of normalcy.

Behind closed doors, the couple subjected the boys to regular s£xual abuse, compelling them to engage in s£xual acts and recording the incidents to produce p£dophilic pornography. The abuse reportedly began when the children were merely three and five years old.

Evidence indicates Zachary boasted about the abuse to friends.

A friend told police Zachary sent a Snapchat message saying, “I’m going to f**k my son tonight. Stand by,” along with images of the boy being abused.

They allegedly utilised social media platforms to exploit the boys by connecting with at least two other individuals in a local abuse network.

When authorities initially searched their luxurious Atlanta suburban residence, they examined two weeks of interior surveillance footage, which revealed abus£ occurring in several areas of the house.

Gay couple get 100 years in prison for r@pe of adopted sons

The couple was arrested in 2022 after an alleged member of the ring was caught downloading child porn, and he told the investigators how the Zulocks were making porn with young boys living in their house.

Authorities were alerted by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding suspicious material uploaded to a Google account traced to a Walton County address.

Following a warranted search, investigators discovered over seven terabytes of digital evidence, including surveillance footage and mobile data containing graphic images, videos and text messages discussing the abuse, the Daily Mail reported.

During questioning, both individuals acknowledged years of abus£ against their sons, whom they had adopted in 2018 through a now-closed Christian agency.

Both Zulocks entered guilty pleas to charges including aggravated child mol£station, aggravated sod0my, and s£xual exploitation of children.

“These two Defendants truly created a house of horrors and put their extremely dark desires above everything and everyone else,” District Attorney Randy McGinley told WSB-TV.

“However, the depth of the Defendants’ depravity, which is as deep as it gets, is not greater than the resolve of those that fought for justice and the strength of the victims in this case. The resolve I have seen from these two young victims over the last two years is truly inspiring,” he added, the New York Post reported.

Previously, Zachary had faced accusations of assaulting another child in 2011. Although reported, prosecutors did not pursue the case sufficiently to file charges.

Young Thug Addresses Leaked Jail Call With Boxer Devin Haney’s Wife

Young Thug has cleared the air after footage leaked of him having an intimate conversation with Devin Haney’s wife Leena Sayed while he was in jail.

The phone call, which dates back to July 2022 — two months after Thug was arrested on racketeering charges — features the two of them having an emotional exchange that lasts around 15 minutes.

At one point during the call, Thug tells Sayed — who reportedly married Haney in 2023 and shares a child with the fighter — to move on and “find love,” indicating that they were romantically involved.

The Instagram model then sobs and replies: “Why would you say that? I don’t like anyone but you […] I want you.”

Thugger, who was also dating Mariah The Scientist at the time, becomes emotional himself and tells Sayed that he doesn’t want to “burden”

her.

After regaining her composure, Sayed tells the Atlanta rapper that she “loves” him, adding: “Everyone knows this.”

Young Thug, who was recently released from jail after striking a plea deal in his YSL RICO case, addressed the leak on X (formerly Twitter) in a number of posts.

“Them n-ggas don showed they hands, them n-ggas ain’t in… #saytwin,” he wrote. “Man me and twin was talking bout some whole other serious shit, I don’t know y she spoke on loving other people or anything else cause ain giving no fuck bout no hoes or n-ggas I’m the capital P lol that’s my twin and nothing else. Never have never will lol.”

The Punk rapper then appeared to reference his relationship with Mariah: “I can have that lil shit right now if I wanted it, but she been pushing the p harder then n-ggas lol that’s the twin…I got who I want.”

Sayed also reacted to the footage and claimed that it precedes her relationship with Haney: “That video was before I met my bd… I would never talk to Thug or any other man.”

THE UPND ARE EXPERTS OF CORRUPTION- KALABA

… adds that President Hakainde Hichilema has turned against the youths who ushered him office.

LUSAKA, TUESDAY, DECEMBER 24, 2024 SMART EAGLES]

CITIZENS First President Harry Kalaba says Zambians are going through alot as a result of a vengeful leadership that is intent on making them suffer for having rejected the UPND and its leader for over 20 years.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. Kalaba said just after the youths gave President  Hichilema power, he has turned against them and would like to make them pay for the many years he was rejected.

He said this kind of leadership must be stopped in the next General election.

” I am therefore appealing to all the citizens within the reach of my voice to do everything within your means to ensure that you encourage at least 5 people to register as voters. Let us take advantage of the continuous voter registration exercise to ensure that we have as many people as possible registered as voters. we would also like to encourage you to start taking a keen interest in what is going on in the country and ensure that whenever there is a by election, encourage the people in that particular area to be vigilant and stop vote buying but more importantly encourage them to vote for an opposition candidate regardless of the party they belong to,” Mr. Kalaba said.

“It is also my hope that as opposition leaders we shall come together and ensure that we start fielding a single candidate in all the by elections. I would personally like to encourage voters to get whatever they give you, even if it is seeds, fertilizer or money, just get them but when it comes to voting, make sure you vote for an opposition candidate that will be supported by the Alliance given the opportunity to field the candidate,” he said.

And Mr. Kalaba said while many citizens had a lot of hope that the UPND was going to address corruption, it is sad to note that the current government has taken corruption to an even higher level to the extent that the UPND government is ranked the most corrupt government in Zambia’s 60 years history.

“This regime has made the previous government look like child-play in as far as corruption is concerned. At any given point the UPND leader while in opposition would castigate the PF government of being corrupt and that when he forms government he would deal decisive with corruption. Today, we are faced with worse off corruption than what we have seen under any previous government. We have seen rampant abuse of donor funds that has resulted in some partners pulling back on support and yet the rhetoric continues to grow louder.  It is very clear that Zambia has been captured. The nation is experiencing state capture, the magnitude of which has never been known before and to continue with this kind of leadership beyond 2026 may lead to total bankruptcy of the country and at worst all the strategic assets will be owned by those close to the corridors of power,” he said.

“The UPND government is using the fight against corruption as a means of beating members of the opposition into submission and getting them to join the UPND in order to buy their freedom. This is not just abuse at its highest level but also goes to demonstrate clear lack of integrity. Opposition leaders with pending cases against them all of a sudden end up having their cases expunged upon crossing over to the UPND. It is therefore fair to assert that the UPND is using the power of incumbency to woe members regardless of their conduct of history,” Mr. Kalaba said.

STATE HOUSE HITS BACK AT FRED M’MEMBE’S HICHILEMA BUILDING PRIVATE ARMY AHEAD OF THE 2026 GENERAL ELECTIONS

SOCIALIST PARTY PRESIDENT’S ALLEGATIONS: A Response to Fred M’membe’s Claims

24th December 2024

By Clayson Hamasaka
Chief Communications Specialist
State House

We have noted a long rambling statement from the Socialist Party President, Fred M’membe, in which he makes a series of astonishing and baseless allegations against Republican President Hakainde Hichilema.

M’membe’s article, which is filled with unverified claims, falsehoods, malice, and speculation, centers on accusations that the Head of State is attempting to establish a “parallel army” through the newly introduced Zambia National Service (ZNS) voluntary skills training programme.

This claim is both shocking and disappointing, especially coming from someone aspiring to lead Zambia. It reveals a lack of awareness that a “parallel army” of sorts already exists in the form of youths—commonly referred to as “junkies”—who are involved in harmful activities and terrorizing citizens in our communities.

Instead of perpetuating unfounded allegations, the opposition should occasionally commend efforts aimed at addressing societal challenges by President Hakainde Hichilema. The ZNS voluntary training programme is designed to equip young people with essential skills in trades such as plumbing, carpentry, tailoring and other artisan professions. These skills will empower them to secure employment or start their own ventures, contributing positively to the economy and staying away from lawlessness.

In case Mr. Mmembe is not aware, currently President Hichilema’s government is offering free education policy which has been embraced by Zambians with millions of children going back in classrooms.

As a visionary leader, President Hichilema is aware that not all these school leavers will be absorbed by our colleges and universities and later the formal jobs, hence the idea of ZNS and many other skills training programmes being implemented to address what would be another challenge in future.

The initiative is being implemented transparently, and M’membe is welcome to enroll his misguided youths from his outdated Socialist Party, which appears to be a family-run organisation controlled by himself, his sister, and daughter.

If M’membe and his colleagues in the opposition oppose this policy, we challenge them to tour the country and inform the youth and their parents not to participate in the ZNS skills training. Let them argue that it is better for these young people to remain on the streets as “junkies,” terrorizing communities and succumbing to substance abuse.

Fred M’membe’s strategy is clear: make wild, incendiary statements about national security, and when questioned by law enforcement, claim that democratic freedoms are under threat to gain sympathy and funding from sponsors.

We urge Fred M’membe to avoid inciting and misleading citizens. For once, let him make constructive contributions to the nation’s progress. It’s time for him to graduate into adulthood and act responsibly.

WE ARE CERTIFIED PRACTITIONERS, ALLEGED SPIRITUAL ASSASSINS TELL COURT

WE ARE CERTIFIED PRACTITIONERS, ALLEGED SPIRITUAL ASSASSINS TELL COURT

VOODOOISTS who allegedly entered into a covenant with Nelson Banda, who is the brother of fugitive Petauke law maker Emanuel Jay Banda, to cast a spell on President Hakainde Hichilema yesterday admitted to possessing charms which they intended to use for their black magic.

The duo identified as Leonard Phiri 43 a witch doctor of Sinda Eastern province, and Jasten Mabulesse Candunde, 42, imported from Maravia, Mozambique, is charged with professing knowledge of witchcraft and possessing charms before the Lusaka Magistrates Court.

Phiri and Candunde have been charged pursuant to Section 5 and Section 11(2) of the Witchcraft Act Chapter 90 of the Zambian laws, which they are accused of contravening.

It is alleged that the two between November 22, 2024, and November 23, 2024, whilst acting together pretended to exercise supernatural power calculated to cause fear.

In the second count, it is alleged that the two wizards possessed charms.

The two spiritual assassins were promised a K2,000,000 if they successfully managed to have the Head of State spellbind, and were given a K16,500 from the agreed advance payment of K30,000.

However the wizards’ get rich -quick scheme backfired, as their charms could not overpower the prayers of the SDA church elder, as every missile they sent to the Head of State returned to their shrine and caused it to tremble.

With their dark kingdom destabilized with prayer, causing them bewilderment, the wizards ran amok with  their evil work tools in their hands among them a live chameleon and a tortoise, leading to their apprehension by the department of wild life.

During plea before magistrate Fine Mayambu, Phiri and Candunde readily admitted possessing charms, but denied professing knowledge of witchcraft.

Asked if they had lawful justification to possess charms, the wizards responded in the affirmative.

They said they possessed the charms for their use during black art and that they were certified with doctors affiliated to the largest organization of witch-finders, Traditional Health Practitioners Association of Zambia (Thapaz).

Magistrate Mayambu recorded a pleas of not guilty in the first count and guilty in the second count.

State prosecutor Maclean Chulu proposed that the matter comes up on January 20, 2025 facts and commencement of trial.

Magistrate Mayambu adjourned the case to the proposed date by the State.

HON MUSOKOTWANE IS THE REAL ENEMY OF ZAMBIA- Dr. Mbita Chitala

HON MUSOKOTWANE IS THE REAL ENEMY OF ZAMBIA

Dr. Mbita Chitala writes:

Hon Musokototwane’s first act against Zambia is when he betrayed President Mwanawasa’s economic program following Mwanawasa’s demise and his appointment as Minister of Finance by President Banda.

President Mwanawasa following the advice of experts from Norway and the IMF and other friends including Musokototwane as Economic Adviser to President Mwanawasa introduced a progressive taxation policy of the mines. President Mwanawasa in 2008 introduced changes to the fiscal and regulatory regime for the mining sector. The fiscal changes were intended to increase the effective tax from our God-Given minerals.

With Ngandu Peter Magande as Minister of Finance, the Mwanawasa MMD administration introduced windfall tax in the charge year 2008/2009 on base metals. Windfall tax was not paid when the monthly average did not exceed US$5,512. Even as it was known that the breakeven point of base metal production averaged about US$2,000, Mwanawasa provided more than double to reach the first trigger point for windfall taxation. Using special taxing formulae, Zambia was to benefit 25% at the 1st  Trigger point, 50% at the 2nd  Trigger point and 75% at the 3rd Trigger point.

The MMD further introduced variable tax where assessable income from mining activities exceeded 8%of the total sales. The variable tax however did not apply to mining income that had been subjected to windfall tax.

The MMD government of President Mwanawasa also increased mineral royalty tax to 3 percent from 0.6 per cent.
These tax measures were supported by the IMF, IMF and all cooperating partners and were meant to enable Zambia benefit fairly from its base metals. Sadly, this was not to be.

In 2009 as new minister of Finance Hon Musokotwane in clear betrayal of Mwanawasa with whom he had worked as Economic Adviser, immediately introduced a most reactionary macro-economic policy regime. He abolished the windfall tax regime that surprised all cooperating partners including the IMF and the World Bank who had been at the fore of advising Zambia to adopt the policy. Furthermore, Musokotwane  reduced mineral royalties from the 3 percent to 0.6 which was short of abolishing it. He also zero-rated the variable tax that had been imposed on the minerals by Mwanawasa. In other words, he simply introduced a tax regime that allowed the multi-nationals to continue plundering Zambia without Zambia benefiting anything.

Hon Musokotwane went further. The US$485 million in windfall tax that was collected in the financial year 2008 and deposited in a special account at the Bank of Zambia was closed and most of the money returned to the mine companies. The mine companies must have given a golden handshake to Banda and Musokotwane for this clearly unpatriotic conduct.

MUSOKOTOTWANE STARTS RECKLESS BORROWING

The IMF Staff Report for the year 2012 for Article IV Consultation on Debt Sustainability Analysis, revealed that external public and publicly guarantee debt by MMD under the leadership  of Hon Musokotwane as minister of finance $2.1billion, about 11.6 percent of GDP in 2011. Most of his borrowings were for consumption. This was the beginning of the debt overhang which grew in later years and which Zambia is currently facing.

As at September 2021, Zambia’s external debt was reported to be US $12.99 billion while guaranteed and non-guaranteed external debt for State Owned Enterprises was US $1.56 billion and US $164.52 million, respectively.

SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE RETURNS AND WORSENS ECONOMIC SITUATION

On 29 October 2021, Musokotwane presented his 2022 Budget to the National Assembly. He not only reduced the mineral royalty tax from 10% to 3.1% but also announced that mineral royalty will be deductible for corporate income tax purposes. In other words, it would be considered as a cost in the accounts of mining companies. This of course was a departure from best practice as a royalty is simply a right to use land and should never be part of costs. This measure effectively reduced royalty payments on base metals in Zambia as the mining companies were able to report reduced sales particularly as they also enjoyed  rights to carry on losses according to their development agreements. Many people criticized this move with the Governor of the Bank of Zambia Dr. Denny Kalyalya commenting that “our economy has shrunk and stagnated.” The Zambia Revenue Authority also continued to fail to reach the 22% of GDP collection demanded of them by the Minister and in fact regressed to 17% of GDP. This made its Chairman Dr. Caleb Fundanga  who is a close friend of mine very concerned as he is not used to failing.

Musokototwane further continued on the borrowing path as he did earlier under President Banda  to the extent that Zambia’s external debt in 2022 was reported to stand at $18.6 billion. This  external debt included debt-service arrears of which the Eurobond arrears were reported to be $821million as at  December 2020. The Total Local debt also rose from K198 billion as at December 2021 to K236 billion as at September 2023 with the adverse effect of the government borrowing overcrowding private sector borrowing.

Musokotwane also entered into another strange deal. He announced that ZCCM-IH, that held 20% shareholding in Kansanshi Copper and Gold Mine had agreed to convert its dividend rights in Kansanshi Mine into a life of mineral royalty payment. He announced that the first payment that FQM would pay ZCCM-IH would be sourced from the outstanding Value-Added Tax refunds from Zambia Revenue Authority due as at 30 June 20222. The aggregated amount of the VAT refund was  US$ 442 million and  ZMW 433 million. This measure would not only adversely affect the rights and power of ZCCM-IH as shareholders and its Directors would be removed from Kansahshi Board of Directors. It would also adversely affect the country’s right to use its forex income to support the Kwacha.

Further, in some very surprising move, Government directed that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) drop criminal charges against Kansanshi Copper Mine Directors, as part of the conditions precedent for FQM to declare a dividend in the sum of the amount that the government had been claiming from the mining giant majority-owned by First Quantum Minerals (FQM) – to a 3.1% revenue royalty. In this case an audit had revealed that FQM Directors had illegally repatriated $2.5billion from Kansasnhi Copper Mines to develop Cobre Panamá Mine, a new and large-scale open-pit copper mine in Panama without ZCCM-IH consent. This was simply theft. No details was disclosed how the Zambian Government would recover these colossal sums. In fact, ZCCM-IH had in fact won the case in the London Court and awarded US$1.4 billion in damages. However, Musokotwane and his new dawn government let go this money following their so called methodical approach to governance.

ZNS VOLUNTARY TRAINING IS A LIFELINE FOR YOUTH, NOT A MILITARY SCHEME

24th December, 2024

LUSAKA – We the United Party for National Development (UPND) strongly dismiss the baseless and desperate allegations from Fred M’membe, President of the Socialist Party, who claims that Republican President Hakainde Hichilema is preparing a military battalion ahead of the 2026 general elections through the Zambia National Service (ZNS) voluntary skills training programme.

These assertions are not only false but also a blatant attempt to mislead Zambians and derail a transformative initiative aimed at empowering our youth. M’membe’s claims reflect ignorance and a lack of appreciation for the real challenges facing our young people and the solutions being implemented by the New Dawn Government under President Hakainde Hichilema.

The ZNS voluntary training programme is a forward-thinking initiative designed to equip young Zambians with life-changing skills in trades such as plumbing, carpentry, tailoring, and other artisanal professions. This programme provides a lifeline to thousands of youths who might otherwise fall victim to unemployment, substance abuse, and criminality. It is not a military operation; it is a blueprint for hope and opportunity.

The opposition leader’s claim that this initiative is part of a sinister agenda is laughable and unpatriotic. If anything, the “parallel army” M’membe fears already exists in the form of “junkies” and disenfranchised youths left behind by years of negligence. Instead of politicizing progressive policies, opposition leaders should offer constructive alternatives or, better yet, support efforts that uplift Zambian citizens.

President Hakainde Hichilema deserves commendation for his vision and commitment to securing a brighter future for Zambia. The free education policy his government has implemented is already transforming lives, with millions of children back in school. However, the President understands that education alone is not enough ,hence the introduction of skills training programs like ZNS. These initiatives ensure that school leavers who may not pursue higher education still have the means to create their own success stories.

As the UPND government, we are in full support of this important program and urge all young people to embrace it with full commitment for the betterment of their future. The ZNS voluntary training programme is an invaluable opportunity for the youth to acquire skills, secure jobs, and contribute to the development of our great nation.

To Fred M’membe and others opposing this programme, we challenge you to tour the country and speak to the youth and their parents. Convince them that idleness and lawlessness are better than acquiring practical skills for economic empowerment. We dare you to tell Zambians that empowering young people is a threat to democracy.

The New Dawn Government will not be swayed by fearmongering or falsehoods. We remain focused on creating opportunities for all Zambians, especially the youth. Let us unite in building a prosperous and peaceful nation, free from the divisive rhetoric of political opportunists like Fred M’membe.

President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership is visionary, progressive, and inclusive. The ZNS voluntary training programme is proof of his unwavering commitment to securing a better future for every Zambian child. As a nation, we must reject baseless allegations and support initiatives that bring real change to our communities. The future of our youth is non-negotiable, and the New Dawn Government is delivering on that promise.

ECHOES OF THE PAST: UPND’S BORROWING STRATEGY MIRRORS PATRIOTIC FRONT’S FISCAL FAILURES

ECHOES OF THE PAST: UPND’S BORROWING STRATEGY MIRRORS PATRIOTIC FRONT’S FISCAL FAILURES

In light of the recent supplementary budget request by the UPND government to increase the debt ceiling, there are growing concerns that Zambia’s debt accumulation may mirror the rapid increases seen during the Patriotic Front (PF) administration. The PF, which governed from 2011 to 2021, recorded an average annual debt increase of approximately **$2.42 billion**, culminating in a staggering **691%** rise in total public debt over ten years.

DEBT ACCUMULATION UNDER THE PATRIOTIC FRONT

When the PF took office in 2011, Zambia’s public debt was around **$3.5 billion**. By the end of their tenure in 2021, this figure had ballooned to **$27.7 billion**, representing a total increase of **$24.2 billion** over a decade. This rapid escalation in debt was marked by significant borrowing to finance various development projects and manage fiscal deficits.

CURRENT TRAJECTORY OF THE UPND GOVERNMENT

Since taking office in August 2021, the UPND inherited a substantial debt burden, and projections indicate that by 2025, total public debt could reach approximately **$36 billion**. The UPND government has proposed an average annual increase in debt of **$2.42 billion**, similar to that of the PF. This trajectory raises concerns about a potential repeat of past fiscal mismanagement.

COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS

– **PF Administration (2011-2021)**:
  – **Initial Debt**: $3.5 billion
  – **Final Debt**: $27.7 billion
  – **Total Increase**: $24.2 billion
  – **Average Annual Increase**: $2.42 billion
  – **Percentage Increase**: Approximately **691%**

– **UPND Administration (2021-2025)**:
  – **Initial Debt**: $27.7 billion
  – **Projected Debt by 2025**: $36 billion
  – **Total Increase**: $8.3 billion
  – **Average Annual Increase**: $2.42 billion
  – **Percentage Increase**: Projected at approximately **30%**

IMPLICATIONS OF INCREASED BORROWING

The UPND’s decision to raise the debt ceiling signals a willingness to borrow more extensively, potentially leading to a similar pattern of debt accumulation as seen under the PF. While the government argues that additional borrowing is necessary for development and economic recovery, critics warn that this could exacerbate Zambia’s existing fiscal challenges and hinder long-term sustainability.

CONCLUSION

As Zambia navigates its economic landscape, the parallels between the UPND’s current borrowing strategy and the PF’s historical approach are concerning. With an average annual increase in debt projected to match that of the PF, there is a pressing need for prudent fiscal management to avoid repeating past mistakes and ensure that Zambia’s financial future remains stable and sustainable.

Lack of Political Freedom and the Failing Zambian Economy Under UPND

Lack of Political Freedom and the Failing Zambian Economy Under UPND

In the heart of Southern Africa, Zambia has long been a symbol of political transition, having experienced various shifts in governance, from authoritarian regimes to more democratic structures. However, under the current leadership of the United Party for National Development (UPND), headed by President Hakainde Hichilema, the nation faces mounting challenges. While the UPND’s rise to power in 2021 brought hope for reforms and economic recovery, the country’s political freedom has significantly diminished, and its economy remains in a state of change. The failure of Zambia’s economy, coupled with an erosion of political freedoms, presents a serious crisis with far reaching implications for the country’s future.

Political freedom is a cornerstone of any democracy. It enables citizens to voice dissent, engage in free expression, and participate in decision making processes. Under the UPND administration, however, many have argued that political space has become increasingly restricted. While the country is formally democratic, there are growing concerns about the government’s crackdown on opposition parties, media freedom, and civil society organizations.

One of the most hostile  examples of the erosion of political freedom is the treatment of opposition parties and alliances. The UPND has been accused of using the state Machinery to suppress political opponents, particularly the PF of Edgar Lungu,NHP,GPZ,ULP,NDC of President Saboi,FDD more still on  (PF), the party they succeeded after its defeat in the 2021 elections. Although the UPND promised to foster unity and inclusivity, critics argue that the current government has used its power to marginalize the opposition, often denying them the right to peacefull demonstrations, or speak out against the government’s policies.

Media freedoms, another vital pillar of democracy, have also come under threat. Independent journalists and media outlets critical of the government report increasing instances of harassment and intimidation. In some cases, journalists have faced arrests, and media houses have been targeted  or face closures for covering stories deemed unfavorable to the administration. These actions have created a chilling effect, making it harder for the public to access unbiased information and hold the government accountable.

Furthermore, civil society organizations, which play a crucial role in safeguarding democracy and advocating for human rights, have reported increasing pressure from the UPND government. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that criticize government policies face bureaucratic hurdles and even threats of closure. This climate of fear has weakened the public’s ability to engage in meaningful political discourse and advocate for .

When the UPND assumed power in 2021, the party inherited an economy ravaged by years of mismanagement, soaring debt, and high inflation. With promises of revitalization, job creation, and fiscal discipline, the UPND gather significant support. However, more than three years into their term, the economic outlook remains unpleasant.

Zambia’s economy continues to struggle with high inflation, a depreciating kwacha, and increasing unemployment. Despite the UPND government’s attempts to restructure the country’s unsustainable debt and engage with international financial institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for bailout packages, the country is still grappling with a sluggish recovery. Economic growth projections remain subdued, and many Zambians are yet to feel the promised benefits of the new administration’s economic policies.

The rising cost of living is one of the most visible indicators of economic failure under the UPND. Prices of basic goods, including food, fuel, and utilities, have soared, leaving many Zambians struggling to make ends meet. The government’s attempt to stabilize the currency has yet to yield tangible results, with the kwacha continuing to lose value against major currencies. The resulting inflation has eroded purchasing power, particularly among the poor .

Moreover, the UPND’s efforts to diversify Zambia’s economy away from a heavy reliance on copper exports have met with limited success. While the government has launched various initiatives aimed at boosting agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism, these sectors have failed to provide the rapid growth needed to offset the country’s contiune to face physical struggle with debt burden. The mining sector, which remains the backbone of Zambia’s economy, continues to be plagued by policy uncertainty, leading to investor reluctance.

The lack of political freedom under the UPND and the failing economy are intrinsically linked. A government that curtails political expression and limits opposition voices creates an environment where accountability is weak. Without a strong opposition, an independent media, and active civil society, the government faces little pressure to enact meaningful economic reforms. Policies that fail to address the underlying structural issues in the economy, such as corruption, mismanagement, and an overreliance on copper, continue to worsen Zambia’s economic decline.

In Zambia’s case, the erosion of political freedoms has resulted in a lack of effective checks and balances, allowing government leaders to act with impunity. The economic failures under the UPND are often compounded by the government’s reluctance to listen to alternative viewpoints or make the necessary reforms to diversify the economy. With a shrinking space for public discourse and engagement, citizens are left with limited opportunities to demand a more accountable government or to propose alternative solutions to the country’s mounting economic challenges.

For Zambia to overcome the twin crises of political repression and economic decline, a concerted effort is needed on multiple fronts. Firstly, the government must take concrete steps to restore political freedom. This includes respecting the rights of opposition parties, media outlets, and civil society organizations to operate without fear of retaliation. Allowing for greater political pluralism and open discourse will ensure that the government remains accountable to the people and that policies are based on the diverse needs of society.

Economically, Zambia must focus on creating an environment that fosters sustainable growth. This includes ensuring fiscal discipline, diversifying the economy, and improving the business climate to attract foreign investment. The UPND’s promises of job creation and poverty reduction can only be realized if economic policies are restructured to empower small businesses, improve infrastructure, and support key sectors beyond mining and by allowing opposition voices.

International financial institutions and donor agencies also have a role to play. Their support can be more effective if they encourage democratic reforms alongside economic assistance, ensuring that the Zambian government is held accountable, rule of law and people for both political and economic governance.

HOLD THOSE IN POWER ACCOUNTABLE, MUTUBILA URGES THE MEDIA

….as he resigns from the Zambia Daily Mail as Board Member

Lusaka… Tuesday December 24, 2024

VETERAN broadcaster Frank Mutubila has called on the media to interrogate, analyze, and hold power accountable ahead of the pivotal 2026 general elections.

Ambassador Mutubila said he feels compelled to make an urgent appeal to the media because Zambia’s democracy hinges on an informed and engaged citizenry, and that the role of journalism has never been more critical.

Announcing his resignation as Board Member of the Zambia Daily Mail effective December 31, 2024, Mutubila stated that his decision is not a retreat, but rather a strategic pivot towards a broader mission; one that reflects his belief in making a more profound and direct contribution to the media industry that has shaped his identity and remains his lifelong calling.

“A year ago, I had the distinct honor of being appointed as a Board Member of the Zambia Daily Mail, a responsibility I accepted with humility and an unwavering commitment to advancing the institution’s mission,” Mr Mutubila narrated.

He expressed gratitude to the Industrial Development Corporation for the privilege he was accorded.

“Entrusted with this role by the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) CEO, I remain deeply grateful to the IDC leadership, our Chairperson, and my fellow board members for their collaboration and shared vision. Together, we embarked on a transformative journey to lay the groundwork for the renewal of the Zambia Daily Mail and the Times of Zambia. I am confident that the seeds we have planted will one day yield a vibrant and resilient media landscape, serving as a cornerstone of our national discourse.”

The former Ambassador to Italy said now is the time to reclaim journalism’s sacred role as democracy’s watchdog, reminding those in power that leadership is not an entitlement but a trust granted by the people.

Ambassador Mutubila has said this is the time for fearless journalism, “journalism that confronts entrenched interests, uncovers inconvenient truths, and empowers voters with the clarity they need to make informed decisions.”

He reminds colleagues in the media that the choices we make today will shape the legacy of Zambia’s democratic journey for generations to come.

“After more than 53 years in this noble profession, my passion and resolve remain undiminished. My decision to step away from the Zambia Daily Mail board is driven by a renewed commitment to fearless, independent journalism. My focus now shifts to ensuring that the road to 2026 is guided by truth, fairness, and accountability.”

Ambassador Mutubila salutes those who have supported him for the unwavering dedication.

“Let us rise together and elevate journalism, not as a passive observer of history, but as an active architect of progress, justice, and democracy. The stakes have never been higher, nor has the opportunity to redefine the role of the media in shaping Zambia’s future. This is our defining moment. Let us seize it.. Together, we can make a difference.”

Jay-Z has no ‘plans to show loyalty to longtime friend Diddy

Jay-Z has no plans to show loyalty to longtime friend Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs amid the music mogul’s legal woes, according to sources.

This comes weeks after the 55-year-old rapper- real name Shawn Carter – was named in a civil lawsuit accusing him of r@ping a 13-year-old alongside Combs in 2000 after the MTV Video Music Awards.

The Empire State Of Mind rapper vehemently denied the allegations, while his attorney Alex Spiro insisted to the media that the pair do not share a ‘closer association’ than professional friends.

Now insiders have told DailyMail that the 99 Problems rapper is willing to do all he can in order to ensure that he never steps foot inside a jail.

‘Jay-Z would absolutely throw Diddy under the bus if that is what it took to clear his name and walk away from this,’ the insider exclusively dished. ‘He has zero loyalty to Diddy.’

The insider noted that the rap star, who is married to singer Beyoncé – began to distance himself as soon as Combs was arrested on charges of s3x trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prost!tution earlier this year.

The insider continued: ‘The moment Diddy was arrested, Jay-Z scrubbed him from his existence. He is going after [lawyer Tony] Buzbee for himself and not for anyone else.

‘The only thing that he cares about is him never stepping foot inside a jail cell and his family being safe. Jay-Z is extremely powerful and will deploy any tactic necessary.’

Carter has slammed the Jane Doe’s attorney Tony Buzbee for his alleged ‘blackmail attempt’ with the shocking lawsuit.

The unidentified woman recently added Carter to her lawsuit against Combs in Manhattan federal court – which was first filed in October.

The woman alleges that she was attacked by the musicians after Combs’ limo driver offered her a ride to a VMAs afterparty.

On Wednesday, Carter’s lawyers asked a judge to extract the rapper from the lawsuit, citing a recent television interview with NBC News in which his accuser acknowledged inconsistencies in her story.

Though Carter’s legal team at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP have made it clear that they intend to get the suit dismissed, a second source noted that it has nothing to do with helping Combs.

‘Jay-Z is more than ready to throw Diddy under the bus to defend himself if that is what it takes and doesn’t want anything to do with his lawsuits,’ the source stated. ‘Any notion that Jay is trying to help Diddy by going after Tony Buzbee is false. He doesn’t care about Diddy.’

The source then explained that Carter had personally decided to cut ties after footage of Diddy physically attacking his ex-girlfriend Casandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura was leaked online.

The source continued: ‘Jay was appalled by the Cassie video which is why he is adamant that he and Diddy weren’t friends as he didn’t really know what he was capable of.

‘The video was a deciding factor for Jay when announcing that he and Diddy weren’t close.’

However, a third insider noted that no matter what the motivation might be, Combs is delighted to have another star involved in his fight against the allegations.

‘Diddy does enjoy that Jay is fighting against the same person that is accusing him of doing any wrongdoing,’ the insider began. ‘Because if Jay succeeds, it will help Diddy tenfold.’

The insider continued: ‘Diddy has a never-ending mountain to climb, but any small win can only lead to bigger wins. Diddy is very happy that he isn’t fighting everything alone.’

Combs, who is already behind bars while awaiting trial, has also denied the rape allegation.

PASSENGER TRAIN AND TRUCK COLLISION AT KOZO LEVEL CROSSING -CHOMA

PASSENGER TRAIN AND TRUCK COLLISION AT KOZO LEVEL CROSSING -CHOMA.

KABWE, Zambia, 24th December, 2024 -Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) regrets to announce an accident at Kozo level crossing in Choma which occurred today at 06:00hrs ,involving a north -bound passenger train no.202 on locomotive no. 270 and a truck and trailer registration no. CY458-491 loaded with floor tiles enroute to South Africa.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the truck driver failed to stop at the level crossing leading to the collision with the passenger train, as a result the truck capsized and a locomotive and genset coach derailed.

The incident did not result in any injuries or fatalities, but caused damage to the truck, locomotive and genset coach.

The accident has affected passage of vehicles at the level crossing. However, an alternative temporary route has been created to allow passage of vehicles.

The ZRL recovery team is already on site working to ensure restoration of normal movement of road and rail traffic.

The failure by the truck driver to observe the traffic rules is unfortunate as it posed a huge risk to the many lives that were on the passenger train. Further, this accident is a huge cost to ZRL through repairs of the rail infrastructure, equipment and loss of business due to the disruption to planned train operations.

ZRL is deeply concerned with the increasing number of level crossing accidents as a result of motorists wilfully disobeying the traffic rules. An earnest appeal is made to motorists to observe traffic rules for their own safety and other road and rail users.

The company reiterates the need for concerted efforts among stakeholders in addressing rail- road safety issues.

The inconvenience caused to the travelling public is regrettable.

Emmanuel Macron names fourth Prime Minister of the year

0

French President Emmanuel Macron unveiled a new government on Monday evening, naming Francois Bayrou as his fourth prime minister this year in an effort to steer the country out of its ongoing political crisis. The announcement follows months of turmoil in France’s second-largest EU economy, marked by parliamentary deadlock and contentious governance challenges.

The new cabinet sees former prime minister Elisabeth Borne taking on the role of education minister, while another ex-premier, Manuel Valls, makes an unexpected return as minister for overseas territories. Valls’ appointment underscores the importance of the role after authorities faced criticism over their handling of a deadly cyclone in Mayotte, France’s poorest overseas territory, which claimed at least 35 lives.

Gerald Darmanin, previously interior minister, was appointed justice minister, despite his long-standing ambitions to helm the foreign ministry. Current Defence Minister Sebastien Lecornu and Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot retained their posts, while Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau, a conservative known for his hardline stance on illegal immigration, also stayed in his position.

The crucial task of delivering next year’s budget falls to Eric Lombard, the newly appointed economy minister. His role is pivotal as the government aims to secure parliamentary approval for a cost-cutting budget for 2025, a major hurdle given the fractured state of the legislature.

Bayrou’s cabinet reflects Macron’s strategy to assemble a government with political heavyweights to ensure stability and avoid the fate of Bayrou’s predecessor, Michel Barnier, whose tenure ended prematurely. The inclusion of two former prime ministers indicates a focus on leveraging experience to navigate the country’s political impasse.

Bayrou, 73, leader of the centrist MoDem group allied with Macron’s party, was appointed on December 13. His immediate challenges include surviving a likely no-confidence vote and pushing through a contentious budget plan.

France’s current political crisis stems from Macron’s gamble on snap elections earlier this year. The strategy, aimed at consolidating his authority, backfired when voters returned a fragmented parliament split among three rival blocs. As a result, Macron has struggled to push through his legislative agenda, further intensifying political instability.

The announcement of the new government coincided with a national day of mourning for victims of the Mayotte cyclone, reflecting the dual pressures of domestic challenges and international responsibilities weighing on the administration. However, many political analysts are skeptical about Bayrou’s ability to navigate the crisis, with predictions of continued difficulties ahead.

Snoop Dogg apologizes to Kendrick Lamar for Drake diss track post

Snoop Dogg has publicly addressed an issue with ‘nephew’ Kendrick Lamar after he shared an Instagram post that included Drake’s diss track, “Taylor Made Freestyle.”

Kendrick and Drake have been in a rap feud for months, and Snoop’s action clearly displeased the “Not Like Us” star.

Speaking in an interview with Bootleg Kev, 52-year-old Snoop revealed that he privately reached out to Lamar to apologize for the incident.

The American music legend referred to Kendrick as his “nephew,” and said he was not aware the post was attached to a diss track targeting Lamar and apologized for his actions.

“That’s my nephew, man,” Snoop said. “He’s a rapper, he’s supposed to speak his mind and tell his truth. That’s the way he felt, you know what I’m saying? And he has the right to say that.”

Snoop previously referred to Lamar as the “King of the West,” and revealed that he left the “Not Like Us” rapper a voicemail once he realized his mistake.

“I apologized. I was like, ‘Damn, I was on them edibles. You’re right, nephew. I gotta be more careful.’”

It all began when Snoop shared a promotional post for his cocktail brand, Gin & Juice, unaware that “Taylor Made Freestyle” was the soundtrack.

The track features AI-generated vocals from Snoop and Tupac had some jabs against Lamar.
Kendrick Lamar later addressed the situation in his own lyrics and said: “Snoop posted ‘Taylor Made,’ I prayed it was the edibles.”

Snoop Dogg admitted he had not reviewed the music attached to the collaborative post before he shared it.

“When I do these posts, I just see ‘Gin & Juice,’ because it’s my brand. I don’t know what song this is—I’m not hip to everybody’s music,” he said.

Once Snoop learnt of Lamar’s reaction, he immediately deleted the post and reached out to make amends.
“I called nephew, left him a message because he ain’t pick up—he was working. I said, ‘Nephew, it’s Uncle Snoop. I got the message. I apologize. I was f***ed up. My bad.’”

When asked about Drake’s use of AI-generated vocals in the diss track, Snoop chose to distance himself from the feud.
“I don’t want to be in nobody’s s, man. I like being in my own s,” he said.

“I don’t get in nobody’s beef—I’m usually the one who ends the beef”.
“When it comes to this s, you’re gonna handle your business because you’re from the muthafin’ West. You don’t need no help. And if you needed help, you wouldn’t have to ask. I’d have been on the double.”

Snoop Dogg also chose not to leave a comment on Drake’s ongoing lawsuit against Universal Music Group over Kendrick Lamar’s track “Not Like Us.”

Another South African man has k!lled his 37-year-old wife over alleged infidelity.

It was gathered that the suspect stabbed Rebecca Mokoena to d3ath at the weekend after he allegedly found her and a male neighbor on their matrimonial bed while their 3-year-old child was sleeping on the floor in the same room.

The ANC Youth League, Mpumalanga, in a statement issued by its Provincial Spokesperson, Comrade Brilliant Mncina, on Sunday, December 22, 2024, condemned the murder of Rebecca and other recent femicide incidents in the country.

“The festive season is usually plagued with frequent incidents of domestic violence, abuse, particularly of women and children. The ANC Youth League Mpumalanga condemns the rampant killings of women and children as reported and seen on social media,” the statement read.

“The recent brutal and senseless killing of Bongeka Makhathini (21), Nontobeko Cele (25), Rebecca Mokoena (37), and many other young and vulnerable women is a clear indication that a lot of work needs to be done in order to abate the current high rate of femicide in South Africa.

“These murder and rape cases once again highlight a systemic crisis with relation to the safety of women in the society. As the youth of the African National Congress, we cannot afford to remain silent when the murder and abuse of women become common occurrences in our society.

Snoop Dogg has opened up about the tension that arose between him and Dr. Dre following his decision to acquire Death Row Records

American rapper, Snoop Dogg has opened up about the tension that arose between him and Dr. Dre following his decision to acquire Death Row Records.

In a candid interview with AP News, the rapper revealed that his longtime mentor was initially wary of the move. Snoop purchased the famous label from MNRK Music Group, formerly eOne Music, in 2022—a milestone that marked a full-circle moment in his career but stirred skepticism among those closest to him.

Notably, before Snoop’s acquisition, Death Row Records faced a turbulent history.

The label filed for bankruptcy in 2006 and was subsequently sold to WIDEawake Entertainment Group in 2009.

When WIDEawake declared bankruptcy, Death Row changed owners again, eventually becoming a division of Hasbro before eOne was bought by Blackstone in 2021.

By the time Snoop took control, the label’s financial struggles had cast a long shadow over its legacy. Dr. Dre’s initial reaction reflected those concerns. “Oh, he didn’t like it,” Snoop admitted bluntly. “He was torn up about it. He didn’t like it.”

According to Snoop, Dre and others questioned why he would choose to take on what appeared to be a financial and reputational burden.

“To them, it looked like, ‘Why is he buying a bag of problems when he’s already successful? Why bring that back into his life?’” Snoop explained. But for Snoop, the acquisition went beyond business. It was a matter of legacy and redemption.

“They didn’t understand what I saw,” he said. “I saw my legacy. Saw unfinished business that needed to be handled. I wanted to put some life into Death Row—some beautiful music and happy moments to redefine what it stood for.”

Over time, Dr. Dre’s perspective shifted. Snoop shared that his mentor eventually became one of the label’s biggest advocates. “He loves it now,” Snoop said with a grin.

“He’s down with it. I even got him asking for a Death Row jacket.”

Since taking the reins, Snoop has brought back iconic artists like The Eastsidaz and Tha Dogg Pound while signing new talent, including standout R&B artist October London.

Last week, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre released their collaborative album, Missionary, under the Death Row label, cementing the label’s renewed presence in today’s music industry.

Cardi B Accuses Tasha K Of Hiding Money To Evade $3.4M Judgment

Cardi B and gossip blogger, Tasha K, have been battling it out in court for a while now, and it appears as if the musician has no plans of backing down.

Cardi reportedly sued Tasha K back in 2019 for alleged defamation, she accused her of carrying out a “malicious campaign” to damage her reputation, leading to the court ultimately ruling in her favour, with an award of almost $4 million, money she is yet to see.

Tasha K filed for bankruptcy in 2023, claiming that she had less than $60K in total assets, but that did little to stop Cardi B, who has offered the judge evidence to support her claims that Tasha K is allegedly hiding money offshore. According to new legal documents obtained by TMZ Hip Hop, she accuses Tasha K of fraudulently transferring assets and income out of her name and into her husband’s.

She also alleges that Tasha K holds multiple offshore trust accounts in the Cook Islands, Nevis, and Georgia. Cardi B goes on to add that despite the internet personality telling the court that she can’t afford to pay off what she owes, she’s living a “life in luxury”.

Available information also reveals that she and her husband have even recently moved into a deluxe apartment, which costs them $7K per month.

In the documents, Cardi also cites various social media posts in which Tasha K flaunts high-end clothes, jewelry, and more. She’s asking the judge to dismiss Tasha’s bankruptcy case and to block her from refining for another two years. At the time of writing, Tasha K has yet to respond.

In other news, Cardi B, has recently taken to Twitter Spaces to address a number of issues about various aspects of her life.

This follows criticisms from people who are surprised she is almost always at a party or an entertainment event and having fun.

The entertainer has been seen in a significant number of parties lately, and she has since been fighting off an impression that she is being irresponsible, especially since she is a mother.

TARGETED FRIVOLOUS AND VEXATIOUS CLAIMS ENDS UP MISLEADING PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA TO THINK HIS PARTY IS BECOMING MORE POPULAR AND WINNING ELECTIONS.

We received actionable intelligence of there being illegal offensive weapons being kept at a named lodge in Room 1 which the UPND cadres called Emergency  Room. The said room was occupied by a UPND Cadre they called Commander who up until recently I have come to learn was imported from Lusaka and from an area called Gabon in Garden Compound.

We first of all decided go and report to Chief Munkanta because he had intimated that he needed to ensure that the elections in his chiefdom must be free and fair and without any violence.  The Chief agreeably indicated to us that he equally received those reports and was waiting to speak to the owner of the lodge because the said was his Young Brother.

The chief called two of his young brothers (One being the owner of the Lodge and the other being a UPND youth leader called Don).

He confronted the two and requested them to ensure that they are not involved in any illegal possession of such items.  He said he had a duty to protect his family and therefore needed to ensure that he is certain that such items are not in the lodge.

The chief then called an Officer (from a named Security Wing) and told him to accompany his retainer, the owner of the lodge and the other young brother to go and search the lodge suspected rooms. We were advised go and witness the search .

The owner of the lodge called for the keys to the first room.  The receptionist brought him the keys and opened the room.  He then conducted a search with the chiefs retainer and even moved the beds.  and there was nothing in the first room which apparently belonged to their young brother called Don.  (This was done in the presence of Don).

He then called for the other room which was in fact the so called Emergency  Room. The receptionist indicated that the keys  were carried by the owner of the room.  The retainer and the owner of the lodge requested the receptionist to called the room occupant, but within 4 minutes, the owner of the room appeared with a Black Toyota Mark X without a number place and he had covered his hands with a black jacket. He saw the presence of the chief’s retainer then he decided to go back to his car exclaiming that he had forgotten his keys  and I could see him put back a gun into the Car.

He then came and opened his door  and proceeded to seating on his bed and asked what the people standing outside his door wanted.  The chief’s retainer responded by introducing the owner of the lodge and told him that they needed to search the room because there is a suspected allegation of their being offensive weapons in that room.

No one entered into that room to search that guy, we stood outside the room while the chief retainer spoke to him and the owner of the lodge spoke to him to inform him that they suspect that in that room there are offensive weapons. The guy sat on his bed and literally refused to be searched while pressing his phone.  . I realized then that he may be mobilizing cadres then requested the MP and the Pastor that we needed to leave. That’s how we left for fear of being attacked.

When we went back to report to the chief of how we had moved, we found that guy at the palace. He had already lied to the chief that he was roughed up and forced to open the door and in the process he lost a bag and that there was money in that bag.

We confronted this guy’s lies at the Chiefs palace but he still went ahead and lied to the police that he lost his bag which had money in it. He never mentioned a laptop at the palace only to read that on social media.

The Police then decided to target only myself as Counsel, Mr. Peter Chanda and Honorable Chisenga as being suspects when in fact we never even entered any of those rooms.

Legal Logic would  require that if the Police have to charge anyone for a suspected criminal offense that may have been committed in the process of the ordeal, they would have applied the provisions of Section 22 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia which provides for “Offences committed
by joint offenders in
prosecution of
common purpose”.

“22. When two or more persons form a common intention to prosecute an unlawful purpose in conjunction with one another, and in the prosecution of such purpose an offence is committed of such a nature that its commission was a probable consequence of the prosecution of such purpose, each of them is deemed to have committed the offence.”

Simply put; In this case everyone would have been jointly charged starting with the Chief, his retainer, the Officer who was present, Mr. Don, including the receptionist and ourselves. This would have been a proper case intended to achieve justice.

On the contrary, the State singled out persons who in fact would make good state witnesses because they did not participate in the actual physical search but merely witnessed it.

I think such is a pure targeted crime to intimidate every voice of reason that’s standing in for the defense and protection of the Republican Constitution.

I am not only Counsel but also a business Man and I can actually manage to spend the same K28 almost on a daily basis. There was an Honorable Member of Parliament who is equally of distinguished good financial standing in society. There was a President of a Political Party with capacity to run a political party in Zambia .

The State shamelessly crafted this plan just so as to isolate myself, President Peter Chanda and the Hon. MP from the totaling Centre for the Kawambwa by-election because they knew that we were the ones receiving the PVT from our monitors.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia only accredited five (5) persons from each political party to be present in the Elections Totaling Centre. NCP accredited persons included myself – Celestin Mukandila, Hon. Jean Chisenga, Hon. Given Lubinda, President Shawn Tembo, President Peter Chanda and the NPC Deputy Secretary General had a roving accreditation.

The detention of myself and Hon. Chisenga meant that two men down. President Shawn Tembo had earlier that day been attacked and brutally bruised by known UPND Cadres and had to be attended to by doctors. The same was the case with President Peter Chanda who was in fact cut with a knife  by UPND cadres in my presence and had to be attended to by doctors. For Hon. Given Lubinda, while he started off to the nomination Centre, his vehicle was pursued by known UPND Cadres who had about four vehicles and he had to maneuver into safety.  This meant that only those who attended the process did not have PVT results.

The State refused to Charge us that evening and opted to charge us the following day so that we wouldn’t attend to this sacred constitutional duty.  It was amazing that they had to abuse the entire Provincial Police Commissioner Mr. Yuyi to descend and execute an illegal detention.

They may have succeeded to isolate us and give fake figures to ECZ and persons in the Totaling Centre  but the people of Kawambwa actually won that election by over 7,000 votes.  ️

That’s the reason why, No one celebrated the ECZ announcement of results in Kawambwa.  The people know what transpired and that election monitors and observers including agents were violently chased from polling stations by UPND panga carrying cadres.

President Hakainde must know that people are resolved now more than ever as to who they want to vote out of power come 2026.

His people will continue to lie to him in the name of massaging his ego.  But he must get this reality, that political power does not transcend people power.

The Zambian people have a final say. Democracy shall thrive. I am committed to see to it that we uphold Democracy and the Rule of Law in our country.

KAWAMBWA BY-ELECTION HAD ELECTORAL CODE OF CONDUCT VIOLATIONS – CCMG

The Christian Churches Monitoring Group-CCMG has raised concerns about the electoral code of conduct violations during the recently held Kawambwa Parliamentary By-Election.

These relates to Voter Inducement, Continuous Voter Registration, Replacement of Voters Cards, and Collection of Voters Card Details,

Member of the CCMG Steering Committee Bishop Emmanuel Chikoya says CCMG observers noted multiple incidents of party officials, candidates, and others providing inducements, including food and cash, to voters, detailed below.

Bishop Chikoya says these acts violate Section 81 (1) (a) of the Electoral Process Act.

He says on 14 December, a CCMG observer witnessed the Socialist Party handing out K10 to people in Senga Ward, led by the party president and the SP candidate.

Bishop Chikoya says on 16 December, a CCMG observer in Lushiba Ward reported hearing of United Party for National Development (UPND) officials including the Minister of Youth, Sports and Arts; the Chililabombwe MP; and the UPND candidate distributing K50 kwachas to the residents of the Chitondo area.

He says the UPND officials are reported to have promised to distribute fertilizer to the community at a later date.

He says a CCMG observer in Ntumbachushi Ward also reported an incident involving UPND supporters allegedly ferrying individuals with lost or damaged voter’s cards from Kawambwa to Nchelenge Constituency for replacements.

AND Bishop Chikoya says notes with concern, that the ECZ operated the Nchelenge Voter Registration Centre beyond prescribed working hours including very late in the night to facilitate voter’s card replacements for voters from Kawambwa Constituency because of the by-election.

He has therefore called for the Enforcement of the Electoral Code of Conduct.

Why the Zambia Police Service Deserves the Label “UPND Police Force”-Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

Why the Zambia Police Service Deserves the Label “UPND Police Force”

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

The Zambia Police Service, a body mandated to uphold justice and protect citizens without bias, has seemingly abandoned its constitutional duty in favor of blatant partisanship. Under the current administration, the police have consistently demonstrated selective law enforcement, shielding members of the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) while ruthlessly pursuing opposition figures. This systematic double standard has earned the police the notorious title of the “UPND Police Force.”

Below are glaring examples that justify why the Zambia Police Service is often referred to as the UPND Police Force.

Ignored Complaints from Opposition Members

1. The Sean Tembo Stabbing Incident
During the Kawambwa by-election, Sean Tembo, leader of the Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP), was allegedly stabbed by UPND Vice National Youth Chairperson Trevor Mwiinde. The attack was reported to the police, accompanied by a certified medical report as evidence. Yet, there was no investigation or arrest. In a brazen show of impunity, Mwiinde was allowed to hold a press conference to deny the allegations without facing any legal scrutiny.

The police’s refusal to act sends a clear message: UPND officials are untouchable, even when compelling evidence is provided. Such neglect undermines the integrity of the justice system and leaves opposition members vulnerable to unchecked violence.

2. Death Threats by Mwense Mayor Chikota
In another shocking case, Mwense Mayor Chikota, a UPND official, issued death threats to Hon. Mulenga Fube, MP for Chilubi Constituency. The threats were recorded and submitted to the police as irrefutable evidence. However, the police took no action.

Chikota, undeterred by the report, continued his political activities, even campaigning at Mpota Primary School near Kawambwa Police Station. The police’s inaction, despite the evidence and proximity, underscores their unwillingness to hold UPND members accountable, further emboldening lawlessness within the ruling party.

3. Electoral Fraud Allegations Against Mike Mposha
On the eve of the Kawambwa by-election, credible reports emerged of Minister of Green Economy and Environment Mike Mposha, a senior UPND official, engaging in illegal voter manipulation by collecting NRCs and voter cards in exchange for money. Hon. Mumbi Phiri personally verified and exposed this act of electoral fraud.

Rather than investigating this serious breach of electoral laws, the police turned their focus on Hon. Phiri, charging her with trespass. This glaring double standard demonstrates a disturbing trend: UPND members are shielded from accountability, while opposition figures are punished for exposing illegalities.

Swift and Harsh Action Against Opposition Members

1. The Arrest of Hon. Jean Chisenga and Counsel Celestin Mukandila
Opposition members Hon. Jean Chisenga and Counsel Celestin Mukandila were detained overnight after raising concerns about the importation of illegal weaponry into Kawambwa by a known UPND cadre. Despite credible evidence, the police ignored the allegations about the weaponry, which was reportedly used in subsequent attacks on Sean Tembo, Peter Chanda, and others.

The swift arrests of Hon. Chisenga and Counsel Mukandila starkly contrast with the police’s inaction against UPND cadres, further cementing the perception of the police as an extension of the ruling party.

2. The Call-Out for Hon. Mumbi Phiri
Hon. Mumbi Phiri was promptly issued a police call-out for simply questioning why UPND officials were collecting NRCs and voter cards before the election. The police’s quick response to silence her highlights their partisan enforcement of the law. This stands in sharp contrast to their failure to act on credible allegations of electoral fraud involving UPND officials.

Conclusion

The Zambia Police Service’s actions, or lack thereof, have exposed a deeply rooted bias that prioritizes the interests of the UPND over the principles of justice and equality. The consistent inaction on credible allegations against UPND members, coupled with the swift and disproportionate targeting of opposition figures, has rightfully earned the institution the label of the “UPND Police Force.”

It is time for the Zambia Police Service to demonstrate that they serve the people, not the ruling party. Anything less would be a betrayal of their duty and an affront to the principles of justice.
