WE CAN’T EAT LECTURES, ZAMBIANS WANT A PRACTICAL, WORKING PRESIDENT – CHANGALA

WE CAN’T EAT LECTURES, ZAMBIANS WANT A PRACTICAL, WORKING PRESIDENT – CHANGALA

ZAMBIANS are looking for a leader with solutions to the country’s poor economy and not the one who will lecture them forever, governance activist Brebner Changala has said.

Speaking when he featured on KBN TV’s Big Hour programme Wednesday, Changala said the current leadership had lost direction.

He accused President Hakainde Hichilema of resorting to giving long lectures to the poor, angry and hungry citizens at the expense of offering solutions.

“You cannot have a Cabinet or a President who fights citizens day in, day out. You cannot have a President who is divisive to the extent of not caring about how the people will feel about his abusive actions. That man was elected to give us a daily updates. Not to lecture us,” Changala said.

He said Hichilema should face the reality that his government had failed.

“He should not run away from reality but tell the people why he has failed to govern the country without lecturing the nation,” Changala said.

He said Hichilema’s speeches were creating panic and sadness among Zambians as they projected his personal agenda aimed at dividing the nation.

“He was not elected to lecture citizens. Hichilema’s speeches sometimes worry me. But they reveal his personal agenda. There is a target that he wants to shoot at and destroy,” Changala said.

He said Hichilema had moved key institutions such as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to his office to pursue his political opponents using institutions of governance.

“He admitted the other day. In the same building built by criminals, the admission was that he is a chief spy who followed [former foreign minister] Joe Malanji and spoke to heads of states in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Turkey. I was a bit scared. I was perturbed and disturbed,” Changala said.

He said Hichilema should be told that a government was a system and it was for institutions established by the law mandated to pursue criminal activities.

Changala said Hichilema had a country to run, not to pursue individual;s because doing so was an abuse of prerogative.

He said the presidency under Hichilema was dented because it fell short of justice but was obsessed with vengeance.

“When Malanji or anyone is convicted, they will seek the prerogative of mercy from the presidency. Now, how does he get it when the President has decided to become the arresting officer, the judge and the jury, and the spy?” Changala said.

He said the institutions of governance should be independent and separate from any form of political interference.

Recently, during a UPND mobilisation meeting organised by the Lusaka provincial leadership, Hichilem boasted how he personally supervised the investigation and arrest of Malanji.

Changala reminded Hichilema that when Zambians voted him in 2021, they didn’t give him a blank cheque to conduct himself in whichever way he wished.

He also said it was a total abuse of office for Hichilema to appoint his political party members to lead independent institutions such as the Electoral Commission of Zambia.

“It is well known that Zaloumis [Mwangala ECZ chairperson] and Speaker of the National Assembly Nellie Mutti are pure UPND cadres who have been seen in the party regalia,” Changala said.

Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people of Eastern Province says things are not okay in Zambia.

He has expressed disappointment with the infighting in the opposition Patriotic Front, urging them to unite as time has run out.

He said this when PF Presidential hopeful Brian Mundubile, who was accompanied by MPs, paid a courtesy call on him.

BLACKOUT ON BILL 7: WITHOUT THE MANDATE OF THE INQUIRIES ACT, THE ‘TECHNICAL COMMITTEE’ IS A LAWLESS CLUB – AND ITS PAYCHECKS ARE NOW PERSONAL DEBTS!- Sensio Banda

BLACKOUT ON BILL 7: WITHOUT THE MANDATE OF THE INQUIRIES ACT, THE ‘TECHNICAL COMMITTEE’ IS A LAWLESS CLUB – AND ITS PAYCHECKS ARE NOW PERSONAL DEBTS!

The Inquiries Act (Chapter 41 of the Laws of Zambia) is the statutory foundation for establishing commissions of inquiry. It grants the President power to issue commissions but strictly limits that power. Section 2(2) requires that every commission specify the subject, nature, and extent of its inquiry and outline key procedures, including appointment of a chairperson, quorum, timelines, and whether proceedings are public. Section 2(4) further mandates publication of the commission in the Gazette by statutory instrument, while Section 5 compels commissioners to act “in accordance with the terms of the commission concerned.”

These provisions are not optional, they define legality. A body purporting to act as a commission under this Act must be duly gazetted, have clear Terms of Reference (ToR), and operate within its mandate. Without these, it lacks lawful status.

By all available evidence, the Technical Committee on Bill 7 of 2025 fails to meet these statutory requirements. There are no publicly disclosed Terms of Reference, no statutory instrument gazetting its establishment, and no clarity on its scope, membership, or procedures. Without these, the committee has no legal authority to function. In effect, it operates outside the Inquiries Act, making it illegal rather than merely irregular.

This illegality carries direct fiscal consequences. Section 18 of the Inquiries Act ties remuneration, fees, and expenses to funds appropriated by Parliament under a valid commission. Without a lawful basis, all payments to committee members amount to unauthorized expenditure. Allowances, per diems, and reimbursements thus lack legal standing, and recipients may be personally liable to refund such sums to the national Treasury. Similarly, any reports, recommendations, or findings issued by the committee are legally void.

The absence of a valid mandate also undermines key safeguards, public oversight, procedural transparency, and accountability, creating fertile ground for misuse of public funds and executive overreach. The opacity surrounding the committee’s creation erodes public confidence in constitutional reform processes and signals a worrying disregard for the rule of law.

This is not a technical oversight but a fundamental breach of constitutional governance. Establishing a committee outside statutory limits sets a dangerous precedent, suggesting that the Executive can act without legal restraint. When those charged with reforming the Constitution disregard the very laws meant to guide such processes, legitimacy collapses.

At the heart of this issue lies a simple principle: no one is above the law. Without a gazetted commission and defined ToR, the Technical Committee on Bill 7 operates without legal authority. Its actions, expenses, and outputs cannot be shielded by political convenience. Every allowance and payment made under this shadowy mandate risks recovery, and those involved may face personal liability for benefiting from an unlawful process.

If tested in court or examined by oversight institutions, the likely outcome is clear—nullification of the committee’s work and claw-back of all unlawfully disbursed funds. The warning is therefore unequivocal: in Zambia, public authority derives from law, not discretion.

Transparency is not optional. Legality is not negotiable. And impunity, especially where public money and constitutional reform intersect, will not stand.

IS MAKEBI ZULU SINCERE IN HIS ROLE AS SPOKESPERSON AND LAWYER TO THE LUNGU FAMILY?

IS MAKEBI ZULU SINCERE IN HIS ROLE AS SPOKESPERSON AND LAWYER TO THE LUNGU FAMILY?

As Zambia edges closer to the 2026 General Election, political ambitions are beginning to clash with loyalty and moral responsibility. One individual at the centre of this growing controversy is Makebi Zulu, who serves as both Spokesperson and Lawyer to the Lungu family.

The question that begs an honest answer is: is Makebi Zulu truly sincere in his dealings with the Lungu family, or is he playing political games of foxes?

Makebi has over time positioned himself as one of the key figures close to the Lungu family — representing them in legal matters and often serving as their public voice. However, recent developments raise serious questions about his integrity and motives.

While he continues to speak for and represent the interests of the Lungu family, he is also actively positioning himself to take over the Patriotic Front (PF) presidency — a move that clearly signals his ambitions to contest the 2026 Presidential election.

This dual role presents a glaring conflict of interest. How can Makebi Zulu be expected to faithfully represent the Lungu family — including members like Tasila Lungu, who herself may harbour political ambitions — while simultaneously pursuing his own political agenda within the same party structure?

His political aspirations naturally compromise his impartiality, making it difficult to distinguish whether his actions are genuinely in the best interest of his clients or strategically designed to advance his personal ambitions.

If indeed Makebi is receiving payment from the Lungu family for his legal and spokesperson duties, then ethical questions must be asked: is he honouring that responsibility, or is he subtly diverting attention and resources to bolster his political career? It would be morally questionable for him to continue drawing from the same hand that he may be indirectly competing against in the political arena.

At this point, Makebi Zulu must introspect. He cannot serve two masters. He cannot be both a trusted family representative and a political contender aiming for the highest office in the land. To maintain credibility, transparency, and moral uprightness, he must make a choice — either remain loyal to the Lungu family as their lawyer and spokesperson, or step aside and pursue his political ambitions openly and independently.

In politics, sincerity and integrity are priceless. Makebi must decide which path defines him — the path of loyalty and professionalism, or the path of personal ambition masked in loyalty. The Zambian people, and indeed the Lungu family, deserve to know which Makebi Zulu they are dealing with.

Politics Spill into Faith Spaces as Soldiers Eject Opposition Leader from Catholic Fundraiser

⬆️ NEWS DAY | Politics Spill into Faith Spaces as Soldiers Eject Opposition Leader from Catholic Fundraiser

A quiet Catholic fundraising dinner in Lusaka turned into a scene of political controversy on Friday night after Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP) president Kelvin Fube Bwalya, widely known as KBF, was allegedly forced to leave the event by senior Zambia National Service (ZNS) officials.

The incident occurred at the ZNS Chamba Valley banquet hall, where KBF, accompanied by his wife and senior party members, attended a Dinner Fundraising Event for the “Sister to Sister” Initiative, a programme run by Catholic Sisters to support women’s empowerment.

According to KBF, their presence was abruptly interrupted when ZNS officials ordered them out within minutes of arrival, without explanation.

“What happened last night was humiliating and unjustified,” KBF said in a statement on Saturday.

“My wife, who has always supported Church activities, was deeply hurt. The Church must remain a neutral space for all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.”

He accused those involved of turning a faith-based event into a political spectacle, calling the act “unchristian and dangerous for democracy.”

KBF urged the Ministry of Defence and ZNS Command to investigate the incident, warning that political profiling and intimidation erode the country’s democratic fabric.

Neither the Zambia National Service nor the Ministry of Defence has commented on the allegations. The Catholic Secretariat has also remained silent.

TONSE ALLIANCE MEMBERS RECONCILE ON DAY OF PRAYER

TONSE ALLIANCE MEMBERS RECONCILE ON DAY OF PRAYER

THE Tonse alliance has resolved its wrangles in commemoration of the National Day of Prayer.

Speaking to journalists after their meeting, Saturday, Alliance Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda said the alliance had ironed out what was worrying most Zambians.

Nakacinda said the alliance agreed to anchor everything they were going to do in truth and honesty towards one another, as well as towards God and the Zambian people.

“We have committed ourselves to God to guide us, give us wisdom, but also to anchor everything we are going to do in truth and honesty towards one another and also towards the Zambian people.

Today is a special day, one of the principal legacy issues in the presidency and the leadership of president Edgar Lungu was to acknowledge God as being supreme and preside over the affairs of our nation. He also declared October 18th as the day for prayer, fasting and reconciliation.

Building on that legacy, today we met as Tonse to iron out what seemed to be worrying every Zambian. And as we have discovered, these were really not fundamental issues, most of which were just around issues of communication misunderstanding, and we have resolved our issues,” said Nakacinda.

“Of course, the complex issue is how to repackage ourselves for the year 2026. So we are emerging today as a united Tonse alliance. There are a few other steps that we need to take with other colleagues who may not have been here today, not because they didn’t want to come but because some of them like president Tembo had a trip to hunt.

We hope whatever he has been able to bring down, he will come and extend our reconciliation process by sharing the meat. But otherwise, all is good, and we are grateful that God presided over our meeting”.

SANGWA RAISES ALARM OVER “CHAOTIC” VOTER REGISTRATION EXERCISE

SANGWA RAISES ALARM OVER “CHAOTIC” VOTER REGISTRATION EXERCISE

The Movement for National Renewal (MNR) has sounded the alarm over what it describes as “widespread operational and logistical chaos” in the ongoing mass voter registration exercise, warning that the current disorganisation could disenfranchise thousands of citizens ahead of the 2026 General Elections.

In a strongly worded statement issued in Lusaka today, MNR leader John Sangwa, SC, said the credibility of Zambia’s next election rests squarely on the integrity of the voter registration process. He cautioned that irregularities at this early stage pose a serious threat to democracy if not urgently corrected.

“Credible elections begin with a credible voter register,” Sangwa said. “The ongoing exercise has been marred by procurement irregularities, system breakdowns, and poor planning, all of which undermine public confidence in the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).”

According to MNR, the procurement of biometric voter registration kits was riddled with irregularities and delays, leading to last-minute deliveries, inadequate training, and widespread technical failures. Sangwa noted that many registration centres particularly in areas perceived to be opposition strongholds had failed to open on schedule, leaving citizens “frustrated and uncertain about where or when to register.”

He further criticised the ECZ for limiting election monitors to just three per constituency, describing the move as “a deliberate restriction on transparency.”

“Transparency is the bedrock of trust in any electoral process,” he said. “When you limit independent monitors, you breed suspicion and erode confidence in the Commission’s impartiality.”

The MNR also highlighted what it called a “shameful failure” in voter education, especially among rural communities, first-time voters, and women. The party accused the ECZ of neglecting its constitutional duty to ensure that all citizens are informed and empowered to participate in the democratic process.

“A democracy cannot flourish when citizens are uninformed of their rights and obligations,” Sangwa lamented. “Low voter awareness translates into low participation, and that weakens our collective voice as a people.”

In its statement, the MNR issued a six-point call to action, urging the ECZ to extend the registration period, resolve technical failures, lift restrictions on monitors, publish a full list of registration centres, intensify voter education, and ensure that the Commission receives adequate funding and independence from government interference.

“The government must provide the ECZ with timely resources to conduct this exercise effectively and independently,” Sangwa emphasised. “A credible voter register is the foundation of a credible election.”

Despite his concerns, the constitutional lawyer-turned-political reformist encouraged citizens not to lose hope, describing voter registration as both a right and a duty.

“Do not give up,” Sangwa urged. “Registering to vote is not just a procedural step it is a constitutional duty and a patriotic act. In doing so, we honour those who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today.”

The MNR reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring the voter registration process and defending the integrity of Zambia’s democracy.

“We will continue to advocate for transparency and fairness,” Sangwa concluded. “Together, we will defend the people’s right to free, fair, and credible elections.”

Hon. Kaunda explained that he viewed Lisa’s actions not with judgment, but as a display of confidence, passion, and joy after achieving something she had long worked for. Leadership Movement Gives Police 48 Hours to Avail Officers Involved in Brutality Case

……………..alleges UPND could have dealt with police brutality better as they experienced it the time they were in opposition.

By Ludia Phiri Ngwadzai

THE Leadership Movement (LM)  has given the police 48 hours to provide the names of officers involved in the brutal arrest and beating of two youths wearing party-branded T-shirts.

The youths were arrested on Tuesday, and one is currently hospitalized with convulsions.

Addressing journalists in Lusaka, party president Dr. Richard Silumbe disclosed that  two youths were arrested and beaten for wearing T-shirts with “Vote for Dr. Richard Silumbe” branding.

Dr. Silumbe has given the police 48 hours to provide the names of officers involved.

The party plans to sue the officers for unlawful arrest and brutality.

Dr. Silumbe alleged that the police are heavily infiltrated by UPND cadres and are not independent.

He said the UPND government could have dealt with police brutality better as they experienced it before assuming office.

He added he expected UPND to deliver the rule of law and justice despite failing to deliver on economic promises.

The party has expressed disappointment and concern about the police’s actions, citing a lack of independence and professionalism.

Dr. Silumbe has since called on the UPND government to do better and ensure justice is served.

RUBEN MADE BIG GAMBLES AGAINST LIVERPOOL BUT THEY PAID OFF!

KA RUBEN MADE BIG GAMBLES AGAINST LIVERPOOL BUT THEY PAID OFF!

1. Started Harry Maguire since the Brentford drubbing and the English man notched the headed winner and was man of the match.

2. Played Casemiro despite being fully involved with Brazil  against South Korea and Japan. When the brilliant Brazilian sitting in front of the back four received a yellow card, Ruben Amorim swiftly substituted the 33-year-old fearing a red.

3. Starting Matheus Cunha who had only one start in recent weeks and coming off an injury ahead of Benjamin Sesko who had scored in back to back Premier League matches seemed controversial at first for a boss who had never won back to back Premier League matches since his appointment in November, 2024.

It paid off as United had a fluid front three in Cunha, Mason Mount and Bryan Mbeumo.

The Red Devils kept the ball on the deck rather than hoof it upfront to the big boy had Sesko started. Those man mountains in Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate were going to have a field day in dealing with aerial ball against Sesko.

The tactical tweak left Liverpool’s stuttering rear guard startled as it was moved out of position of comfort to deal with the swift shifts in the United attack so much so that the home side could have been down  2-0 in the opening 20 minutes.

In the denouement,  it is remarkable that the much maligned Maguire, who Amorin trusted to start, got the winner-the first by the away side since Wayne Rooney notched the winner in 2016 at Anfield.

And Amorim got his first back to back Premier League matches in a remarkable 35 matches.

It was done to the Portuguese astute management of this match right from his first eleven selection.

Certainly, the three points against the defending champions has eased pressure on Amorim.

In consigning Liverpool to a fourth straight defeat for the first time in 12 years, Amorim deserves a pat on the back.

EDGAR LUNGU’S LEGACY OF PRAYER CONTINUES TO UNITE ZAMBIA — MATAMBO

By: Cletus Mutoki

Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo has reaffirmed the significance of the National Day of Prayer, Fasting, and Reconciliation, describing it as a powerful affirmation of Zambia’s identity as a Christian nation.

Speaking during the 10th wave of prayers held in Mufulira under the theme “One Nation Under God: Consolidating and Harvesting National Development and Spiritual Resilience,” Mr. Matambo emphasized that the day, established as a public holiday by Sixth Republican President Edgar Lungu, continues to unite the nation in faith and purpose.

He urged Christians to embrace forgiveness, warning that without it, their spiritual journey would be in vain.

Mr. Matambo also called on the Church to remain a steadfast moral, spiritual, and economic compass for the country, especially in times of transformation.

Commending President Hakainde Hichilema’s efforts to improve the economy, the minister noted that tangible progress is beginning to show. He expressed confidence that with the Church’s continued guidance, Zambia’s economic future will be shaped by citizens who possess the right mindset and
values.

LOAD SHEDDING IS NO LONGER JUST A TECHNICAL INCONVENIENCE IT IS A NATIONAL EMERGENCY- ENG BORNFACE ZULU

LOAD SHEDDING IS NO LONGER JUST A TECHNICAL INCONVENIENCE IT IS A NATIONAL EMERGENCY- ENG BORNFACE ZULU

Engineer Bornface Siliya Kenan Zulu shared……………………..

Load Shedding: The Silent Saboteur of Progress

Load shedding is no longer just a technical inconvenience—it is a national emergency. It holds our economy hostage, stifles industrial growth, disrupts education, and dims the hopes of millions. It is the invisible chain that binds us to stagnation. If we do not act decisively, we risk condemning future generations to a life of energy insecurity and economic mediocrity.

Politics Must Serve the People, Not Delay Progress

As an energy expert, I am deeply concerned by the politicization of our energy crisis. When progressive policies are blocked for political mileage, the people suffer. We must remember: “When the ground is hot, only the feet can tell.” The Zambian people are feeling the heat. It is time for our leaders—both in government and opposition—to walk barefoot through the reality and respond with unity, not division.

Guidelines for Opposition Participation in Energy Governance

Opposition parties have a critical role to play in shaping Zambia’s energy future. Here’s how they can contribute constructively:

– Support bipartisan energy legislation: Champion bills that promote renewable energy, grid expansion, and tariff reform—even if proposed by the ruling party.
– Hold government accountable with facts, not politics: Use parliamentary platforms to demand transparency in energy procurement, project implementation, and financing.

– Engage in public education: Mobilize communities with accurate information on energy conservation, solar adoption, and the importance of cost-reflective tariffs.
– Propose alternative solutions: Table well-researched proposals for hydro diversification, solar, wind, biomass utilization, and electric mobility.
– Build investor confidence: Publicly commit to continuity of energy policy regardless of political transitions. Investors need assurance that Zambia’s energy agenda is stable and future-focused.

Competing with Global Giants Starts with Unity

Our dream is to compete with energy giants like China, America,Germany, Britain, and Australia—not just in production, but in innovation, policy, and sustainability. Zambia has what it takes because most of the raw materials that are being used by those countries came from Zambia including the national grids, railway systems, building materials. We are a mighty nation, with the eagle soaring proudly on our flag. Our motto says it all: “One Zambia, One Nation.” United we stand. Divided, we fall.

African Wisdom for a Modern Crisis

Let us remember the African proverb: “A great man plants a tree whose shade he will not enjoy.” Energy reform is that tree. We must plant it now, not for ourselves, but for our children and grandchildren. Let us also heed the wisdom: “When the ground is hot, only the feet can tell.” The people are walking on burning ground. Their cries must not be drowned by political noise.

Investors Need Certainty, Not Chaos

The world is changing—and Zambia must change with it. Investors are watching. They need to know that whether governments change or remain, our energy agenda will not waver. We must speak one word, one vision, one commitment. That is how we attract capital, technology, and partnerships.

A Wake-Up Call to Zambia’s Leadership

Wake up, mother’s army. The time to act is now. We must rise as a united force—government and opposition, technocrats and citizens—to declare war on load shedding. Let us show Africa and the world that Zambia is not just a land of potential, but a land of power. A great energy giant. A beacon of unity.

Let us not remain imprisoned by the lamentations of load shedding. Let us break free—together.

DEPUTY HEADTEACHER IN MAZABUKA ALLEGEDLY MISAPPROPRIATES EXAM FEES FOR 6 GRADE 12 PUPILS

DEPUTY HEADTEACHER IN MAZABUKA ALLEGEDLY MISAPPROPRIATES EXAM FEES FOR 6 GRADE 12 PUPILS

SOME parents in Mazabuka have raised serious concerns after their children, who attend Anchor Private School, were informed during the examination verification process that they would not be writing their Grade 12 exams this year, despite having paid the required fees of K950 or more.

Police have since confirmed the matter, identifying the suspect as Clive Komba, 35, of Nakambala Compound in Mazabuka. Komba, who serves as the Deputy Headteacher at Anchor Private School, is alleged to have misappropriated K3,000 meant for examination fees for five pupils.

Police says Anchor Private School is a registered examination centre with ECZ under Centre Number 3517. Two other schools in Mazabuka Glance Private School and Firmroad Private School do not have centre numbers and therefore submitted their candidates (15 from Glance and 18 from Firmroad) to Ancer for exam facilitation.

Between January and March 2025, Clive Komba is said to have received a total of K36,100 from 61 pupils, meant to be deposited to the Examination Council of Zambia (ECZ) via its mobile payment platform.

However, in September 2025, when the final list of Grade 12 candidates was released, only 56 names appeared, instead of 61 meaning five pupils were left out. The missing candidates were identified as follows:

Maambo Bumba – Exam No. 400301960156 (Glance Private School)
Shanzuwa Festus – Exam No. 400309950129 (Glance Private School)
Sandra Hanambe – Exam No. 400309470027 (Glance Private School)
Siachitobola Emmeldah – Exam No. 400302890027 (Firmroad Private School)
Mainza Eurifine – Exam No. 400309480018 (Firmroad Private School)

The matter was reported to Mazabuka Central Police Station, prompting an investigation, and upon being summoned and interviewed, the suspect Clive Komba claimed he deposited the full K36,100 to ECZ for all 61 pupils. In response, police have since engaged the Examination Council of Zambia to verify the claim.

ECZ has promised to respond to the request within one week. Police say they are awaiting that confirmation before proceeding further with the case.

Investigations are ongoing.

AB Bank faces lawsuit over alleged role in property fraud

AB Bank faces lawsuit over alleged role in property fraud

AB Bank Zambia is facing legal action in the Lusaka High Court over allegations that it failed to exercise due diligence in a property-related loan transaction, resulting in financial and reputational harm to the property owner, Kemonic Trust.

The Trust, which owns Subdivision No. 5 of Farm No. 23a in Lusaka, has also sued its tenant, Paul Makota, for alleged fraud and breach of contract.

According to court documents, Makota, acting with a former AB Bank officer, said Zalus Banda, is accused of forging tenancy agreements to misrepresent rental income and secure a credit facility from the bank.

Kemonic Trust alleges that AB Bank, by failing to verify property ownership at the Land and Deeds Registry and relying on fraudulent documents, breached multiple provisions of the Banking and Financial Services Act and the Financial Intelligence Centre Act.

The Trust contends that the bank’s negligence facilitated the fraudulent transaction, which caused it significant inconvenience, financial loss, and reputational damage.

The lawsuit details a series of alleged statutory breaches, including the bank’s failure to conduct responsible lending assessments, its involvement with false documents, and omissions in ongoing due diligence obligations. Kemonic Trust claims that had AB Bank followed standard procedures, the fraud would have been detected before the credit facility was granted.

The Trust is seeking general and exemplary damages from the tenant, and damages for breach of statutory duty from the bank, alongside costs .

WRONGFULLY IMPRISONED FOR MORE THAN 40 YEARS, US MAN NOW FACES DEPORTATION TO INDIA

WRONGFULLY IMPRISONED FOR MORE THAN 40 YEARS, US MAN NOW FACES DEPORTATION TO INDIA

AFTER serving 43 years in prison for a murder he did not commit, Subramanyam “Subu” Vedam was finally free.

New evidence had exonerated him earlier this month of the murder of his former roommate.

But before he could reach his family’s arms, Mr Vedam was taken into custody by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), who want to deport him to India, a country he has not lived in since he was a baby.

Now, Mr Vedam’s legal team is fighting a deportation order and his family is determined to get him out of custody, for good.

His family are now working to navigate a new and “very different” situation, his sister Saraswathi Vedam told the BBC.

Her brother has gone from a facility where he knew inmates and guards alike, where he mentored fellow inmates, and where he had his own cell, to a facility where he shares a room with 60 men and where his history of good behaviour and mentorship is unknown.

Mr Vedam has been repeating one message to his sister and other family members in the wake of the new situation: “I want us to focus on the win.”

“My name has been cleared, I’m no longer a prisoner, I’m a detainee.”

More than 40 years ago, Mr Vedam was convicted of murdering his once-roommate Tom Kinser, a 19-year-old college student.

Kinser’s body was found nine months after he went missing in a wooded area with a bullet wound in his skull.

On the day of Kinser’s disappearance, Mr Vedam had asked him for a ride. While the vehicle Kinser drove was returned to its usual spot, no one saw it being returned.

Mr Vedam was charged with Kinser’s murder. He was denied bail, had his passport and green card seized by authorities and was labelled a “foreigner likely to flee”.

Two years later he was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. In 1984, he was sentenced to a separate two-and-a-half to five years for a drug offence, as part of a plea agreement. That sentence was to be served simultaneously with his life sentence.

Throughout that time, Mr Vedam maintained his innocence on the murder charges.

His supporters and family members stressed there was no physical evidence tying him to the crime.

MALAWIAN MAN AGED 71, ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY KILLING HIS WIFE AFTER DOMESTIC DISPUTE

By: Zodiak online

Police in Kawale, Malawi, are holding a 71-year-old man, Keleton Muyaba, for allegedly killing his wife, 59-year-old Florence Hunga.

According to Kawale Police Spokesperson Mabvuto Phiri, the couple had a disagreement on October 18, which was temporarily resolved after a lengthy discussion. However, the dispute flared up again the following morning.

“While they were in their bedroom, the argument intensified, prompting their son, who lives with them, to break into the room to stop the fight,” Phiri said.

Upon entering, the son reportedly found his father holding a panga knife while his mother lay on the floor in a pool of blood. The matter was immediately reported to Area 23 Police Unit, and the victim was rushed to Kamuzu Central Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police detectives from Area 23 quickly moved in and arrested the suspect in Chiuzira. Phiri said Muyaba will undergo a mental evaluation before appearing in court to face a charge of murder.

VIDEO: “People Still Think I Recorded That Video on Purpose” – Tiwa Savage speaks about Viral Video

Tiwa Savage has debunked some claims about her viral video that almost ruined her career.
She is one of the celebrities who endured a heightened level of cyberbullying after the private matter that was not meant for the internet circulated.

According to the songstress, that footage was recorded by her boyfriend (now her Ex) while they were alone, and she was not aware of that because he was a bit vulnerable, as people who watched the video testified.

In a recent interview, the actress revisited that traumatic experience and debunked the rumors that she did that on purpose to revive her career after she wasn’t getting hit for a long time.

The music industry is full of surprise and scripted acts, so music lovers thought that tha video was a stunt to promote an upcoming project of Tiwa.Portable speakers

Rappers and sometimes singers pick fights (beef) with their colleagues in the industry to trend for a while and drop a project, whether it’s a single, EP, or Studio Album. It is a method that works for many artists, so most people concluded that the video was planned.

The songwriter explained that she will not do such a thing just to promote her music because she has the talent to reach great feats without involving such acts, but it was unfortunate that it happened.

She said her politician friend called her to apologize to the Nigerian Youth, but she refused to do so because she was not at fault, but it was just an unfortunate incident that almost ruined her mental health and career.
Tiwa disclosed that she needed a lot of time to recover fully.

VIDEO: Pastor Delivering a Cat Goes Viral

Some churches have graduated from praying for members to casting spells on animals.

Normally, delivery service is done for the congregation, but a pastor decided to deliver a black cat.

Most people identify black cats as evil, so they prefer white cats to black.

A particular video is trending, the service was halted for the religious leader to cast out a spirit in the animal, and this has raised eyebrows on the internet.

Viewers are asking, what could be inside the animal for the man to pray for it amidst service? He was holding a cross on his right and the cat in his left.
Religious people believe in the existence of witchcraft, and this situation was no exception.

He called upon the Holy Spirit to come to his aid as he cast the spell out of the black cat. Non-believers also say some Christians exaggerate things too much because the cat is just a mere animal roaming.

Shockingly, he prayed for the cat and claimed the spirit left the cat and was on a certain wall in front of him. The pastor described the so-called spirit in the cat as an unclean one as he continued praying.

The video is going viral and has sparked opinions from different angles, as true believers say people like this pastor give non-believers the audacity to make certain blasphemous statements against the church.

False Prophets mostly do this to trends to have more members, so this is seen as a stunt.

VIDEO: High school student reveals why she is dating her maths teacher

These days, relationship between teachers can go beyond the classroom and even end in intimate ones.

While people blame teachers most of the time, some students can be very persuasive and persistent in that regard.

In a viral video that is circulating all over social media, a female student has revealed why she is still in a relationship with her maths teacher.

The girl revealed that she is dating her math teacher and it is basically because she needs to get good grades.

According to the student, it all started after the teacher once came to her class and they both had a really good conversation.

She said she knew the teacher would be in for it after he asked for a video of her colleague who had been exposed.

After she started taking his class, the teacher would let her stay back during lunch so they could catch up and have conversations.

She added that although she suspects that the teacher has a wife, she wouldn’t stop talking to me if it were so because her grades are on the line.

VIDEO: People who use their mouth to speak ungodly things but refuse to satisfy their spouses with their head- Prophetess Criticize Preachers who Speak Against Head

People who use their mouth to speak ungodly things but refuse to satisfy their spouses with their head because of what their pastor said have been chastised by a Nigerian Prophetess.

The world had evolved in all aspects of life, and the includes activities in the other room.
Unlike when the two get into action as soon as they enter the room, now there are new forms of games that are called foreplay before the real deal.

Some choose to do karaoke to get into the mood, couples sometimes do role-play, like the woman dressing like a nurse and the man dressing like a soldier, because people claim that turns them on.

Another fast-rising game is done with the head. It seems like a despicable game by certain pastors, and a Nigerian Prophetess has criticized them for calling what satisfies some women a sin.

It looks like most women have been complaining to her that their husbands do not want to use their heads because their preachers told them it is sinful to use their tongues to such acts.

She quoted the Bible and said, “Let no corrupt word come out of your mouth.” With this, she means the congregation should not use their mouth to insult, defile, and lie.

The Prophetess went ahead to say that there are people seated in the Church who use their mouths to say undespicable words against others, even though the Bible speaks against that, but their hypocritical nature appears when it’s time to satisfy their wives.

As the criticisms continued, she said some pastors preach cultural values in the Church instead of the Word of God.

I wont mind being a second wife – Afrobeat star, Tiwa Savage

Lately, Nigerian Afrobeat Super Star, Tiwatope Omolara Savage, widely known as Tiwa Savage, has been talking about her love life, and she has disclosed another groundbreaking statement regarding the type of marriage she will settle into.

The Songstress was married to Tunji Balogun, also known as Tee Billz, from 2013 to 2018. They had one child, Jamil Balogun, and he is 10 years old now.

Tiwa is reportedly coparenting with her baby daddy.
Their union ended after Tee Billz accused his then-wife of infidelity, to which Tiwa debunked and said he was rather reckless with money and also a drug addict.

Since then, Tiwa has not married again, but she has been in a couple of romantic relationships. She was mostly involved with Afrobeat Super Star, Wizkid, but she claims they were never a romantic couple, just friends.

Another relationship that got her into big trouble was her previous one with an Ex, as some unknown individual threatened to publish her leaked video with her partner. She took a bold step to inform the world before the people did to control the damage, but unfortunately, she was bullied for a long time.

She has been speaking about these incidents lately, and in the current one, she mentioned the type of marriage she wishes to be in.

As an African girl, Tiwa says she wouldn’t mind being a second wife just for peace of mind. She sees a Polygamous home as a normal thing and wouldn’t mind if a man over fifty would like to choose her as a second wife.

This take of hers surprised her host, but she clarified the statement that not everyone will be ready to share their man with another woman, but for the sake of not thinking about her love cheating on her, marrying a polygamous wife will help her.

Savage revealed that most first wives hate their junior colleagues because they see them as threats, but she won’t be; she will be on tour most of the time and would even invite her as a special guest.

Throwback Video When Regina Daniels Described her Marriage as a Happy One

25-year-old actress, Regina Daniels, is going wild as she wails for public sympathy after enduring so much pain in her marriage with Senator, Ned Nwoko.

She was crying in a circulating video saying she is worthless in her marital home because her billionaire husband does not treat her well, but she will be queen when she goes to her own house.

The incident happened outside their apartment. She left the house for the street, but people around her tried to calm the situation down; however, things got worse as her sympathizers picked a fight with the supporters of Ned.

Nigerians have pulled back a video where the actress disclosed that her union is a happy one.

Before this incident, she had been posting her married life mostly on Instagram and sometimes threw shade at other women. “It’s good to cry in a Ferrari than to be happy without luxury,” and many others, all in the name of a cruise.

She granted an interview with the BBC, and she revealed that how people see them outside, that’s how it is indoors.

According to the actress, some people thought she was not happy in her husband’s house, but she debunked those rumors during the interview and described her husband as a very good and loving man.

She said her husband usually read most of the hate comments towards their marriage and laughed together, and he didn’t even allow her to cook because they had servants, literally a queen treatment.

Now the Big Question is, What Changed in her Happy Marriage?
Was she pretending to be happy all this time until she got fed up?

Nigerians on social media seem to be happy about her situation because she left Somadina Adinma, a very handsome young man, for a 59-year-old (now 64years) man. After all, he is affluent.

Regina Daniels do drugs and Alcohol, she destroyed my Ferrari – Ned Nwoko

The billionaire husband of Nigerian Actress and Film Producer, Regina Daniels, Prince Ned Nwoko, has responded to her accusations on social media.

Daniels reportedly parked out of her matrimonial home after accusing Nigerian Senator, Ned Nwoko, of allegedly assaulting her on countless occasions.

Ned has taken his X(formerly known as Twitter) to break down what has transpired in their marriage since and how they got to their current situation.

He revealed that his wife is battling with her drug addiction and alcoholism, os which he has advised her several times to quit that wayward behavior if she wants to continue being his wife.

The Lawmaker disclosed that the chaotic scene of his wife had happened in his absence, and his valuables had been destroyed. He added a video to his statement, which depicts a broken windscreen of one of his expensive cars, hitting 3 of his staff and threatening to kill their resident nurse for exposing her wayward lifestyle.

He included that he has other wives who don’t act like Regina, and besides, he has never been the violent one; she is.

Regina’s husband stressed that all her actions to tarnish his image in the last 48 hours came true with the help of her drug supplier, Sammy.

Mr. Nwoko stated that he informed the actress to get into a rehabilitation center in Asokoro or probably Jordan, a country where she will have no access to drugs to be sane like she used to, but it has all fallen on deaf ears.

Nigerians are highly disappointed in Mr. Ned for washing his wife’s dirty linen outside instead of being the bigger person.

RESIGNED BECAUSE OF TRUMP” — MARINE COLONEL WALKS AWAY AFTER 24 YEARS

 “I RESIGNED BECAUSE OF TRUMP” — MARINE COLONEL WALKS AWAY AFTER 24 YEARS 

In a blistering Washington Post column, Marine Corps Colonel Doug Krugman revealed he resigned after 24 years of service because he no longer believed President Trump was committed to the Constitution — and feared being ordered to turn weapons on fellow Americans.

“I could not swear without reservation to follow a commander in chief who seemed so willing to disregard the Constitution,” Krugman wrote. “President Trump’s actions became increasingly difficult for me to justify, culminating with the Jan. 6 attack on Congress.”

Krugman said he had already made his decision before Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth summoned generals and admirals to a controversial, partisan meeting in Quantico. Trump reportedly warned the top brass, “If you don’t like what I’m saying, you can leave the room. There goes your rank. There goes your future.”

The combat veteran said what pushed him over the edge was the president’s delusional portrayal of American cities as war zones. “President Trump’s description of Portland as a ‘war zone’ is as fantastical as his belief that the June protests in a few blocks of Los Angeles would somehow ‘obliterate’ the massive city of nearly 4 million,” Krugman wrote. “In both cases, his words had little connection to reality.”

He warned that Trump’s inflammatory orders — and the imaginary threats they’re based on — are a direct threat to military cohesion.

“I do not claim to speak for any other person or institution,” Krugman added. “But if they have doubts about their orders, they are not alone. They should be confident in questioning possibly immoral or illegal orders, remembering they are responsible for their own actions.”

He served through two wars. But he’s drawing the line at this president

Nigerian man sentenced to 80 hours of unpaid work after using woman’s name to work at UK Hospital

Nigerian man sentenced to 80 hours of unpaid work after using woman’s name to work at UK Hospital

A Nigerian man has been sentenced to 80 hours of unpaid work after admitting he used a female colleague’s identity to carry out shifts at a UK hospital.

Lucius Njoku, 33, of Oliver Lane, pleaded guilty to one count of fraud by false representation when he appeared at Chester Magistrates’ Court on September 19, 2025.

Between February 16 and April 25, 2024, Njoku worked shifts at the Countess of Chester Hospital, including in the A&E department, under the name of Joyce George, a co-accused who was employed through an agency.

Prosecutor Lisa McGuire told the court that George had since returned to Nigeria and a warrant had been issued for her arrest.

Messages recovered from the pair’s phones mapped out the shifts they coordinated, though both had declined to give interviews.

Defence Highlights Circumstances
Njoku’s lawyer, Steve Alis, explained that Njoku came to the UK as a student and faced financial difficulties, which led to his agreement with George.

Alis also criticized the hospital’s lack of identification measures, pointing out that Njoku was qualified for the role.

“He hasn’t tried to downplay his role,” Alis said. “He had the relevant qualifications but went about it the wrong way. This was a joint enterprise.”

Sentence and Outcome
Njoku was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, meaning he will not go to jail unless he reoffends during this period.

He was also ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work, pay a £154 surcharge, and £85 in court costs.

If Zuma Had Stayed, South Africa Would Look Like the UAE — Supporters Reflect on His Development Legacy

If Zuma Had Stayed, South Africa Would Look Like the UAE — Supporters Reflect on His Development Legacy

A recent comment circulating on social media claims that “if Jacob Zuma had stayed in power, South Africa would be looking like the UAE right now — with more trains, stadiums, malls, housing, hospitals, highways, bridges, schools, nuclear power, farms, and a fair media.”

While the statement sparked debate, it has reignited discussion around the development record of former President Jacob Zuma, who served from 2009 until his resignation in 2018.

During Zuma’s tenure, South Africa experienced significant investment in infrastructure and social programs. His administration oversaw:

The expansion of the Gautrain and PRASA modernization programs, aimed at improving public transport.

Housing and infrastructure initiatives, including the Back to Basics campaign to strengthen local government service deliver

Major energy and transport investments through Eskom and Transnet, as part of the government’s economic stimulus strategy.

Rural development and agricultural support projects, designed to empower small-scale farmers.

The proposed nuclear energy deal with Russia, intended to secure long-term power generation.

However, Zuma’s presidency was also marked by deep controversy. His rule became synonymous with state capture allegations, particularly linked to the Gupta family, and widespread corruption claims within state-owned enterprises.

Mounting political pressure, declining investor confidence, and internal divisions within the ANC eventually led to his resignation in February 2018, paving the way for Cyril Ramaphosa’s leadership.

More than seven years later, opinions remain divided. To some, Zuma represented an era of rapid development and empowerment. To others, his leadership became a symbol of corruption and missed economic opportunity.

If You Want To Divorce Do It Quickly – Boko

President Duma Boko has given counsel on marriage at the just ended Police Commissioner’s Run.

Noa, who’s now a personal trainer, wasn’t having it, writing, “Stop putting us down. Stop putting me down with your victim card. The problem is not us. Not me. The problem is you. You’re the one who couldn’t keep it in your pants.”

PF HAS NO FUTURE, IT’S DESTINED FOR DOOM – MUSENGE

PF HAS NO FUTURE, IT’S DESTINED FOR DOOM – MUSENGE

FORMER Copperbelt Minister Mwenya Musenge says PF has no future and he can confidently say that the party is destined for doom.

And Musenge says Willah Mudolo can form his own political party if he really wants to be president.

In an interview, Wednesday, Musenge said the party had been infiltrated with wrong characters, which has made it difficult for the party to survive.

“What is happening or what has happened to the PF is extremely sad. And the founder of the PF, the late Mr Michael Sata, must be turning in his grave, seeing what is happening to the party that he sacrificed for and the party under which he had laid out a very progressive foundation for the improvement of the well-being of the people in society. He’s a man who cared so much for the poor.

What I personally conclude is that politicians have become so engrossed in selfish agendas and lost the important purpose of the vision of the party: the core value of service to the people, rather than to self. What we are seeing is people fighting for the opposition to become president of this country. And in the process, the party has been infiltrated with all the wrong characters who have literally made it extremely difficult for PF to survive,” Musenge said.

“And when you look at the problems that they’ve created for themselves, where they’ve ended up finding themselves in court. And the court will tell you that the wheels of justice [are slow], you don’t know when those matters are going to end.

And to try and reorganise itself after the matters have ended and be ready to participate in the 2026 elections is zero. It can’t happen. And looking at the alliance that they are trying to put together, again you can see that there are a lot of players involved with their personal agenda.

When you cast your eyes on the Tonse Alliance, you will be able to see that there are several individuals who are also focusing on leading it with the intention of becoming president next year. So generally, when you look at what is happening, there is no future. We can simply say that there is no future. Generally, I can confidently say that the PF is already destined for doom”.

And Musenge attributed the current crisis in the PF to former secretary general Davies Mwila, saying he fought genuine members and strong pillars of the party.

“This process of destroying PF started some years back when the party had the wrong secretary general who was more centred on himself and in the process, kept on fighting genuine members, strong pillars of the party, and threw them out of the party, sidelined most of them, ruffled everyone, and brought in new people that did not really understand.

What I can say is that Wynter Kabimba did exceptionally well when he was expected to. He really managed to run the party the way it’s supposed to be run. [Davies Mwila], that is the one who messed up, created all this mess because when you become so greedy, when you get so possessed with the love for money, then you sacrifice the values of the party. And that has cost the PF. And for it to rise is practically impossible. It is stuck in the mud where it cannot be pulled out,” he said.

Musenge said PF bouncing back, even under the umbrella of Tonse Alliance, was far-fetched.

“Bouncing back, not under the PF, but bouncing back under the Tonse Alliance also is far-fetched because of the fighting that we are witnessing. There is this grouping pushing this way, that grouping is pushing that way. Before the end of this year, we would be able to see several pockets of political groupings on this so-called alliance. And that is the reason why us, under the APP, have really distanced ourselves and watched it from the terraces.

As for now, I would rather work and see how the opposition out there will position themselves. The core value of politicians or political parties is to serve society. And for us, our focus is the most disadvantaged people in society. Yes, that’s why we are called Advocates for People’s Prosperity. How can we help to uplift the living standards of the most vulnerable in society? So when we watch and see people more focused on self, we distance ourselves because we feel that is not what we need,” he said.

Meanwhile, commenting on South African businessman Willah Mudolo, who expressed interest in leading PF, Musenge said Mudolo could form his own political party if he really wanted to be president.

“You go to hunt for people, people like Mudolo, coming from nowhere, and that’s because people have been bought because that’s what it implies. And you want to come and give a political party to an individual with no political background, no history within the party. I mean, the party is very clear, somebody has to stay within their ranks for so many years before you can assume leadership to a certain level.

So I think that is confusion, I don’t even support that. If Mudolo really wants to become president, he can form his own political party. PF leaders are supposed to be building their own leadership, and people are supposed to be graduating from their own ranks, rising within their ranks to take over the running of the party.

Not somebody just jumping over from nowhere and saying, ‘I want to be president.’ No. That is very selfish, and that does not really inspire anyone,” said Musenge.

A NOTE ON THE LAW USED TO APPOINT THE TECHNICAL COMMITTEE- Isaac Mwanza

A NOTE ON THE LAW USED TO APPOINT THE TECHNICAL COMMITTEE

By Isaac Mwanza

I been following with keen interest the ongoing criticism aimed at President Hakainde Hichilema  over how he appointed the Technical Committee to draft amendments to the Constitution of Zambia. When I accepted to serve on this Committee, I initially thought I would keep quiet and just get on with the work. But honestly, something in me just wouldn’t sit still. I feel the need to clarify a few things so that the public can have a fair understanding of the situation. These views are entirely my own— they don’t represent the Committee or any organisation I belong to.

1. The Law Behind the Appointment

Let’s start with the legal question. This is not the first time a Technical Committee has been appointed in this way. The late President Michael Sata used the same constitutional powers — then found in Articles 33 and 44, now reflected in Article 92 — to appoint the Judge Silungwe Technical Committee. The law has always given the President this authority. Interestingly, some of the loudest critics today actually sat on that very Silungwe Committee, which faced similar doubts about its legality back then.

Those arguing that the current Committee should have been established under the Inquiries Act are missing a key point. That law gives the President the power to appoint commissioners and set up a Commission of Inquiry — not a Technical Committee. The two are very different things.

A Commission investigates matters and reports findings, while a Technical Committee focuses on drafting and providing specialised stakeholder input. So, it wouldn’t even make legal sense to use the Inquiries Act for this purpose, and that was Sata’s reasoning when he departed from the previous style.

I support the use of Inquiries Act as well and disagreed with the Court that that President must appoint a Technical Committee but my opinion or disagreement doesnt matter in the face of a court judgment. This means the route of using a Technical Committee is lawful as guided and endorsed by the Court.

2. The Issue of Consultation

Another concern raised is that the President did not consult widely before appointing members. Of course, consultation is important and always encouraged. But if we are being honest, Zambian presidents have rarely, if ever, done this when appointing such committees. The only first time we saw some level of consultation was under President Edgar Lungu, when he asked organisations to propose names for the National Dialogue Forum and later for the Committee on Bill No. 10. Even then, he still made the final selections.

In this case, President Hichilema picked members from the list given to him by the 2 consortia of CSOS. The names he picked belong to institutions such as the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ), Caritas Zambia, Operation Young Vote (OYV) representing the 37 CSOs; and the Zambian Civil Liberties Union (ZCLU), representing the 11 CSOs.

These are not random picks — they are all part of the broader coalition of civil society groups that have long engaged in constitutional and governance matters and attended the meeting with the President and agreed they would submit names, which was done on 26 June, 2025. By this deed, President Hichilema did consult on which organisations he must pick from.

3. A Word on Fairness and Attitude

Now, here’s where I think we need some honest reflection. Some organisations seem upset not necessarily because there was no consultation, but because they were not among those consulted. There’s an unfortunate tendency in some parts of civil society where a few groups behave as if their voices matter more than others—as though they are “more equal than others,” to borrow George Orwell’s famous phrase from Animal Farm.

This sense of superiority is unhealthy. It divides the civil society movement and undermines the very principles of inclusion and equality we claim to stand for. The truth is that no single organisation or personality has a monopoly on wisdom, experience, or legitimacy. Whether big or small, every group working for the good of Zambia deserves equal respect and recognition.

It’s time we moved past the elitist mindset that only a select few have the right to speak on national matters, especially constitutional reforms. Real democracy and real progress come when we treat each other as equals, not competitors. The work of reforming our Constitution is too important to be derailed by ego battles or the politics of recognition. What matters most is that we all contribute meaningfully, in good faith, to shaping a Constitution that serves every Zambian.

ZAMBIANS URGED TO PRAY FOR THE FAMILY OF LATE FORMER PRESIDENT EDGAR LUNGU

By: Thomas Afroman Mwale

President Hakainde Hichilema has urged Zambians to pray for the family of the late former President Edgar Lungu, calling for national unity and closure over the unresolved burial matter.

Speaking during the 10th observation of the National Day of Prayer, Fasting, Repentance, and Reconciliation, President Hichilema acknowledged Lungu’s pivotal role in establishing the day as a public holiday on 18th October ten years ago.

The President emphasized that it is the collective prayer of the nation that Mr. Lungu may rest in peace, despite the ongoing legal dispute between his family and the government regarding his final resting place.

The matter remains unresolved more than 140 days after his passing on 5th June 2025, with negotiations stalled following online attacks against the family’s chosen mediator, Archbishop Alick Banda.

President Hichilema also stressed the importance of genuine dialogue and reconciliation across all levels of society, encouraging citizens to embrace unity.

He thanked the organizing committee for their dedication to the success of the annual event and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preserving its spiritual significance.

 ZAMBIA MUST PROSPER (ZMP)

PRESS STATEMENT ON POLITICAL DISCRIMINATION AND ABUSE OF STATE INSTITUTIONS

Date: Saturday, 18th October 2025
Issued by: KELVIN FUBE BWALYA (KBF)
President – Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP)

UNLAWFUL AND POLITICALLY MOTIVATED EVICTION FROM A RELIGIOUS FUNDRAISING EVENT

This evening, my wife and I, together with senior officials of the Zambia Must Prosper Party (ZMP), attended a Dinner Fundraising Event at the ZNS Chamba Valley for the Catholic Sisters – “Sister to Sister” Initiative.

Barely five minutes into the event, senior Zambia National Service (ZNS) officials ordered us to leave the venue without any explanation or justification. My wife, a devout Catholic and long-time supporter of Church initiatives, was deeply hurt by this humiliating act.

No legal reason was provided for our eviction — only the heavy hand of political fear and intimidation.

A GOVERNMENT THAT FEARS ITS PEOPLE IS A FAILED STATE

This unfortunate incident reflects the growing trend of state institutions being weaponized for political purposes under the UPND government. It is unacceptable that a peaceful citizen and political leader can be denied the right to participate in a charitable and religious event merely because of political affiliation.

Zambia is not a one-party state. The Constitution of the Republic of Zambia guarantees:

Freedom of assembly (Article 21),

Freedom of association (Article 22), and

Freedom of conscience, religion, belief, and opinion (Article 19).

No government — however powerful it imagines itself — has the right to violate these constitutional freedoms.

THE CHURCH MUST REMAIN A NEUTRAL AND SAFE SPACE

The Catholic Church has always been a refuge for truth, unity, and compassion. It must remain independent and inclusive — not a place where citizens are profiled or expelled for political reasons.

The “Sister to Sister” initiative represents the spirit of Christ — love, service, and inclusion. Turning such an event into a stage for political discrimination is both shameful and unchristian.

ZMP CALLS FOR ACCOUNTABILITY AND RESPECT FOR THE RULE OF LAW

We call upon:

The Command of the Zambia National Service (ZNS) to explain the basis of this misconduct;

The Ministry of Defence to immediately investigate the abuse of authority by ZNS officials; and

The Catholic Secretariat to reaffirm its position as a non-partisan and welcoming institution for all believers.

OUR STAND

Zambia Must Prosper stands firm in defense of every Zambian’s right to freedom and dignity. We reject intimidation, exclusion, and fear politics.

The UPND government must be reminded that the misuse of public institutions to silence opponents is unconstitutional, immoral, and politically dangerous.

ZAMBIA IS IN A SILENT WAR DUE TO GOVERNANCE FAILURE – NAKACINDA

PF Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda says Zambia is experiencing a “silent war” as a result of governance failure, citing issues like load-shedding and shrinking democratic space, among other problems.

Nakacinda was commenting on a statement made by Israeli Ambassador to Zambia, Ofra Farhi, who said Zambia was like heaven in terms of peace.

In an interview, Wednesday, Nakacinda said the envoy was justified in calling Zambia heaven, noting that coming from the war in Israel and Pakistan, she would consider Zambia’s “silent war” against democracy to be nothing.

“Looking at the war that is in Israel and Pakistan and the happenings in that part of the world, she can consider the silent war we’re experiencing against democracy to be nothing. Because she’s coming from a full-blown environment of physical war where people are killing each other, they are bombing [and] all those things. So, you can understand where she’s coming from.

So, we sympathise with her. When somebody is at war and they find that people are at war but they are not using bombs, you think you’re in heaven indeed. We are in a silent war, the democratic space in this country is shrinking, we are about to go into an election, [so] look at what ECZ is doing in terms of voter registration.

For us as Zambians, for this peace to continue, we need to make sure that institutions of government are strengthened, [and] the will of the people prevails. This is what guarantees peace, then the people that come from Israel will truly experience what heaven on earth is if these institutions and the processes are done in the correct way,” he said.

Nakacinda further said Zambia was at war with itself in terms of governance failure and inability to provide food for its people.

“How can we even imagine being in heaven when there are atrocities we’re experiencing here, the torment of people experiencing load-shedding and so on.

Israel itself has an abundance of resources, an abundance of what can meet the daily needs of citizens in Israel. But they are just at war or in conflict with other nations around them, but for Zambia here we don’t even have war with other countries.

We’re at war with ourselves because of failure to govern ourselves, we’re at war with [our] inability to provide food for our people, we’re at war with ourselves because we can’t provide energy, electricity for our people, we are at war with ourselves because of the expensive commodities that sustain the day-to-day lives of our people, [where] people are eating once a day, once in two days. That’s more of a war than where people are just solving problems with neighbouring countries,” said Nakacinda.

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA PRAISED FOR NOT STRIPPING FORMER PRESIDENT EDGAR LUNGU’S IMMUNITY

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA PRAISED FOR NOT STRIPPING FORMER PRESIDENT EDGAR LUNGU’S IMMUNITY

By: Thomas Afroman Mwale

Tabernacle of David Assembly City Mission Church overseer Bishop Harrison Sakala has thanked President Hakainde Hichilema for not stripping the late former President Edgar Lungu of his immunity.

Delivering his homily during the 10th Observation of the National Day of Prayer, Fasting, Repentance, and Reconciliation, Bishop Sakala said President Hichilema’s decision marked a defining moment in Zambia’s political history.

He noted that it had become a custom in the country for former presidents to be stripped of immunity over alleged abuse of office or corrupt activities, but President Hichilema chose a different path.

Bishop Sakala described this gesture as a true testament to the values God upholds in the Bible.

Meanwhile, the clergyman urged men of God across the country to support leaders both in power and after they leave office, stating that abandoning those who lose authority is a wicked act.

LUNGU’S LEGACY OF UNITY GUIDES TONSE ALLIANCE RECONCILIATION

LUNGU’S LEGACY OF UNITY GUIDES TONSE ALLIANCE RECONCILIATION

By Brian Matambo – Lusaka, 18 October 2025

The Tonse Alliance has reaffirmed its unity and commitment to working together ahead of the 2026 elections, drawing inspiration from the legacy of the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, whose leadership, members say, continues to shape Zambia’s moral and political direction.

Speaking during the National Day of Prayer and Reconciliation, Tonse Alliance Secretary General Hon. Raphael Mangani Nakachinda said the gathering was not only a moment of reflection but also a recommitment to the values of faith, truth, and honesty that President Lungu embodied.

“President Lungu’s greatest legacy was his acknowledgment of God as the supreme authority over the affairs of our nation. It was his vision that led to the declaration of October 18 as a national day of prayer, fasting, and reconciliation,” Nakachinda said.

He revealed that internal misunderstandings within the alliance had been resolved, describing them as simple matters of communication. Nakachinda said all members had recommitted to unity, guided by the spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation that the late President Lungu promoted.

“As a united Tonse Alliance, we have agreed to repackage and strengthen our cooperation as we prepare for the 2026 elections. We have sought God’s guidance and wisdom to ensure that all our actions are anchored in truth and honesty, both among ourselves and toward the people of Zambia,” he said.

Nakachinda added that some alliance partners, such as Mr. Sean Tembo, could not attend due to prior travel commitments but remained part of the collective vision to restore the nation’s moral foundation and democratic balance.

The event, held in remembrance of President Lungu’s 2015 declaration of the National Day of Prayer, Fasting, and Reconciliation, served as a reminder of his enduring influence on the country’s political landscape.

Observers say the renewed tone of unity within the alliance reflects a growing effort by opposition leaders to rally around common values and present a coherent alternative ahead of next year’s general elections.
