BOWMAN WAS MESSED UP BY MAKEBI, HE SHOULD HAVE COMPROMISED NOW HE HAS ANOTHER 3 YEARS
==================

Awe Bowman munandi, I can’t throw him under the bus, I ate with this guy panono. But I know he will pull through, I just hope Boma will leave him at least one house for his family.

I wish he had compromised but ukumfwila abena Makebi who think they are champions in everything,  like they are doing pachitumbi. The made him to be stubborn thinking he will win.

Ala this Hakainde whom you deem to be so bad hearted, has tried to lead a Govt with a human face. Bowman was offered a deal to give up some properties and remain with a few, but lawyers (Abena Makebi) misled him in being adamant kwati ni BaEsther. But look now 🤷‍♂️

Anyway the good part about these cases is that, they are running concurrently, so it is like he is serving one sentence.

MAY THE LORD BE WITH HIM AND STRENGTHEN HIM

Will Makebi Zulu’s rumored presidential ambitions deepen  PF  cracks?- A KBN TV EDITORIAL

Will PF survive the storm of its own  leadership storm?

A KBN TV EDITORIAL

UPND Alliance Chairperson Charles Milupi has thrown a sharp arrow into the heart of the Patriotic Front (PF), warning that the party will disintegrate once it chooses a leader. His remark should not be dismissed lightly, especially when the PF stands at a crossroads.

But will the PF truly collapse? Let us ask the hard questions.

1. Is PF united enough to survive a convention?

The PF today is not the PF of 2011 or even 2016. It is fractured, riddled with mistrust, and heavily bruised from its 2021 electoral defeat. Can such a party truly hold a convention without tearing itself apart?

2. What about the ‘three days before elections’ theory?

Mumbi Phiri suggests that PF could hold a convention just three days before the general election and still win. But is that realistic, or is it wishful nostalgia for the days when PF could rally masses at short notice? Can the current PF, battered by internal squabbles, survive such a gamble?

3. Will Makebi Zulu’s rumored presidential ambitions deepen the cracks?

Strong whispers are circulating that lawyer and MP Makebi Zulu is positioning himself for the presidency. Will his bid unify or further polarize the party? How will older heavyweights—such as Brian Mundubile, Given Lubinda, or Chanda Katotobwe—react to being outflanked by a younger contender?

4. Can PF manage the generational clash?

There is a visible tension between the “old guard” who feel entitled to lead and the younger generation that believes the PF must rebrand. Will this generational tug-of-war explode once nominations open?

5. What role will Edgar Lungu’s legacy play?

Although former President Lungu has stepped aside, his shadow looms large. Will the PF move on from him, or will loyalty to his legacy become a stumbling block for new leadership?

6. Can PF overcome its image problem?

The party is still associated with corruption scandals, economic mismanagement, and political violence in the eyes of many Zambians. Can any leader—whether Makebi Zulu or anyone else—convincingly rebuild trust before 2026?

7. Is Milupi’s prophecy of disintegration inevitable?

Will PF surprise everyone by emerging stronger after its leadership contest, or will it confirm Milupi’s prediction and scatter into factions and splinter parties?

The Final Question

The PF stands before a storm. Its convention—whether held tomorrow or three days before the 2026 polls—will not just be about choosing a leader. It will be about deciding whether the PF remains a political force or becomes a cautionary tale in Zambian politics.

So, the question we must all ask is simple: Will PF survive the storm of its own making?

I’M VERY SORRY TO YOU ZAMBIANS…Bob Sichinga apologises for supporting HH/UPND

I’M VERY SORRY – BOB SICHINGA

…Sichinga apologises for supporting HH, UPND

They don’t deserve my support or the support of Zambians

UPND and Hichilema had totally failed the people of Zambia

The current mess under HH and UPND is not what Zambians voted for.

THE new government that will be elected next year should not betray Zambians like President Hakainde Hichilema has, Robert Sichinga has said.

Sichinga, a former minister of commerce, trade and industry, said his trust in Hichilema before the 2021 general elections had…

ABOUT THE INTRODUCTION OF MINIMUM ALTERNATIVE TAX: THE GOOD AND THE BAD- Sean Tembo

ABOUT THE INTRODUCTION OF MINIMUM ALTERNATIVE TAX: THE GOOD AND THE BAD

By Sean Tembo – PeP President and TONSE ALLIANCE Spokesperson

1. Government recently tabled in Parliament an Income Tax Amendment Bill number 9 of 2025, which, among other things, introduced a new tax called Minimum Alternative Tax (MAT). This tax is to be charged at the rate of 1% on turnover, for persons and partnerships that are neither on turnover tax, nor on presumptive tax. The question that arises is whether this new tax is progressive or retrogressive? In order for us to fairly and objectively answer the above question, we need to breakdown this tax. Who is it targeted at? What are it’s pros and cons?

2. According to the Bill that seeks to introduce the Minimum Alternative Tax, this tax is aimed at addressing the issue of tax avoidance, and will therefore widen the tax base by increasing the number of persons that contribute to the national tax pool. Before we delve into whether this new tax can actually achieve the stated objective, let us first look at who it is targeted at.

3. The Bill says that the Minimum Alternative Tax will only apply to persons (both natural and corporate) that are neither on turnover tax nor on presumptive tax. The current threshold for turnover tax is K5 million, meaning that this new tax will apply to businesses that have an annual turnover of more than K5 million per annum.

4. Let us now look at the merits of the argument presented, that the introduction of the Minimum Alternative Tax will address the issue of tax avoidance and therefore widen the tax base, so that instead of a few people contributing to the national tax pool, the tax burden can be shared among more taxpayers.

5. It is true that Zambia’s tax base is very narrow. It has historically been narrow since the time of independence, for a variety of reasons. In fact, when you look at the resource envelope for all the National Budgets that we have ever prepared since 1964, you will realize that on average, tax revenues have only accounted for about 50% of the national expenditure. This begs the question of how the other half has been funded?

6. During most of the KK regime, the other half of national expenditure was largely funded by profits from various parastatals, especially ZCCM. During most of the FTJ, LPM and RB regimes, the other half of national expenditure was largely funded by foreign donors through grants. During the MCS, ECL and now HH regimes, the other half of national expenditure is and was funded by borrowing. The song of expanding the tax base is one that has been sung by all of the 7 administrations that have so far run the affairs of this nation, with little success.

7. The most basic question that needs to be asked, and answered, is; why is Zambia’s tax base so narrow? Well, according to Bill 9 that seeks to introduce the Minimum Alternative Tax, our tax base is narrow because of tax avoidance. But l beg to differ. In as much as tax avoidance is one of the reasons for our narrow tax base, it is not the main reason.

8. In my considered view, the main reason for our narrow tax base is the continued lack of a conducive environment for the private sector to grow and flourish. Unlike other countries in the region, Zambia has never had a vibrant private sector since independence. Successive administrations have never really appreciated the importance of a vibrant private sector and it’s potential contribution to the national tax pool.

9. Even the current administration, which spoke so vehemently about creating a conducive business environment, when they were in opposition, have completely failed to do so, and appear to have no clue whatsoever, as to what it really takes to create a conducive business environment for the private sector.

10. You cannot talk about creating a conducive business environment for the private sector when businesses that supply goods and services to the Government (the largest customer in any economy) take 3 years to be paid. When you look at the national budgets from 2021 to 2025, you will note that the amount of domestic arrears has increased from about K18 billion in 2021 to about K95 billion at present. That’s a more than 400% increase. Domestic arrears is the amount of money that Government owes various businesses that supply goods and services to it. Now, in a small economy like ours, when Government, which is the largest customer, owes businesses in the private sector, a staggering K95 billion, then you cannot surely expect the private sector to survive, let alone grow and thrive to be able to adequately contribute to the national tax pool.

11. Other hindrances to the growth of the private sector include high interest rates, which make it literally impossible to borrow. That is why foreigners are able to come to this country with capital sourced cheaply from their respective countries, and start a business in any sector, and thrive, because there is no competition from local players. Meanwhile, we the Zambian people just watch the foreigners become rich before our very own eyes, a few years after arriving. The most that we can hope for is to get employed by these foreign players. Not because we don’t have brains or ideas to start businesses, which the foreigners start, but because we do not have access to reasonably priced capital.

12. A quick question is why are interest rates so high in Zambia? It is because of the poor decisions of Government, who decide to massively borrow from local financial institutions, through instruments such as Government bonds and Treasury bills, thereby wiping out all the liquidity on the market, and crowding out the private sector. On any day of the week, the bank would rather lend to the Government than to Sean Tembo. When you look at the national budgets for the years 2021 to 2025, you will note that domestic debt has increased by almost 200% from about K87 billion in 2021 to about K248 billion at present. The money that Government has borrowed from local financial institutions is the money that the private sector could have borrowed from these institutions. In other words, the private sector has been crowded out by Government. Surely, you cannot expect the private sector to grow and adequately contribute to the national tax pool, in such a business environment?

13. The list of hindrances to the growth of the private sector is endless, and includes a suffocating regulatory environment which is very costly to comply with, extremely high tax rates, etcetera. My advice to Government is that, instead of introducing additional taxes as a way seeking to widen the tax base, you need to consider working towards creating a conducive business environment for the private sector. When the private sector is able to grow and thrive, the tax base will widen exponentially.

14. On the issue of tax avoidance, yes it is true that the Zambian people have low appetite for tax compliance. But the best way of addressing the issue of tax avoidance is not by enacting laws such as the Minimum Alternative Tax, no. We need to address the reason as to why the Zambian people have low appetite for paying tax. In my considered view, this low appetite for paying tax emanates from the lack of accountability by successive Governments in the use of taxpayers’ money, as well as corruption and wastefulness. How do you expect people to have appetite to pay tax when their money is used to buy 68 containers of medicines which are then forgotten in a private yard somewhere in Makeni until they expire, and the Minister responsible is not fired, but merely transfered to another ministry? How do you think taxpayers feel about that?

15. In conclusion, the proposed Minimum Alternative Tax is an unnecessary tax because it falls far short of addressing the root cause of why we have a narrow tax base in Zambia. The only way we can widen our tax base is by creating a vibrant private sector. And the only way we can create a vibrant private sector is by addressing the issues that are currently stifling the private sector, such as failure by Government to pay businesses that supply it with goods and services, high interest rates, expensive overregulation, instability in the supply and pricing of key factors of production such as electricity and fuel, high tax rates etcetera.

Introducing additional tax types such as the so-called Minimum Alternative Tax, will only further suffocate the private sector, thereby indirectly further narrowing the tax base. But it takes a competent Government to see things from this standpoint. The question is; do we have one? I have always argued that this country needs to have a competent and visionary President, even just for 10 years, and it will be put on a trajectory of economic prosperity forever. Once we are on a proper trajectory, our fortunes as a nation would have been SET forever, even if we subsequently have less competent and less visionary Presidents. Anyway , TILI TONSE 欄 and the Future is SET ✌

THE DOLIKA BANDA FACTOR AND THE SUDDEN OUTBREAK AND MANIFESTATION OF POLITICO- PHOBIA IN THE UPND CORRIDORS OF POWER.

THE DOLIKA BANDA FACTOR AND THE SUDDEN OUTBREAK AND MANIFESTATION OF POLITICO- PHOBIA IN THE UPND CORRIDORS OF POWER.

By Friday Kashiwa

I would like to believe that most of us still remember the story of how Anderson Kambela Mazoka-  MHSRIP was forced to abandon or was hounded out of the MMD party and made to go and form his own political party the UPND.

The reason was due to the sudden politico-phobia or intense fear that had suddenly engulfed the entire MMD top leadership immediately Anderson Kambela Mazoka – AKM announced his intentions to enter politics by first standing as Bauleni branch chairman during the 1997 countrywide party elections.

This announcement and intentions by Andy triggered the instant politico- phobia or intense fear amongst the top MMD hierarchy and the Republican president then, Fredrick Titus Chiluba did not hide his discomfort when he publicly commented on the matter at a public rally that: – “Now even some Chief Executives are busy campaigning for political positions, we will not allow them.” By then Mazoka was working for Anglo American Corp as Managing Director- Central African division.

The animosity and disparaging innuendos that followed targeting Andy made it practically impossible for him to continue his membership in MMD party and that is how he subsequently founded his own political party the UPND in 1998.

Despite jumping into the political arena straight from the confort of the Anglo American Boardroom, with NOT so much documented or any discernible political EXPERIENCE to sing about, AKM was instantly accepted countrywide due to his untainted and unsoiled personal background and some hugely and widely respectable corporate credentials.

Well, as they say, the rest is history because within three years, AKM was on the presidential ballot paper and arguably won the 2001 stolen presidential elections.
AKM, you will ever be my HERO.

ENTER DOLIKA BANDA and no sooner had the ink announcing her intentions to stand for the 2026 Republican presidency had even faded than the political panic mode button was activated.

The statement issued by her office dated 18th August 2025, from the outset,  clearly set the tone and the character of a person who has decided to jump into the political arena from the confort of the corporate boardrooms.

The statement clearly outlined Dolika Banda’s excellent, exceptional and selfless leadership credentials of ‘over three decades working in development finance, governance and investment portfolios.’

Perhaps what triggered some political discomfort is when she touched on the most sensitive issue of how and why she resigned from the most lucrative position of Chairperson of ZCCM – IH, stating that she refused to be ‘a pawn of political interference but instead chose principle over position then, just as she would continue to chose principle over politics.’

As expected in today’s political environment, the reactions to Dolika’s intentions to stand for President have not only been fast and furious, but also retrogressive and full of pettiness, with the majority political players anxiously pushing her to state the political party she will stand on.
The usual preemptive maneuvers of frightened little people.

These are, of course, understandable market places and bus stations empty political debates devoid of any substance and an indepths understanding and appreciating the rich credentials presented in the statement announcing Dolika’s political intentions.

Other political players including the Hon Minister of infrastructure, who is also UPND alliance Chairperson, Mr Charles Milupi as expected and perhaps clearly showing symptoms of some politically manufactured fear decided to pick on some outdated narrative of questioning the political experience of Dolika.

Asking for political experience
even without people digesting and appreciating what is contained in Dolika’s statement of intent is not only a primitive way of conducting politics but also an indirect way of discouraging clean, credible and unsoiled and  political competitors from entering politics so that we only remain with questionable characters.

Very cheap and irrelevant way of politicking.

In a mature and democratic political environment, what is expected, especially from us the ordinary members as well as top leadership in the UPND, as the party in government, is to happily and honorably welcome Ms Dolika Banda to the world of politics and then challenge her to bring to the political table those ideas that will match or even surpass:
Our principles.
Our vision.
Our mission and
Our core values as espoused in our Party Manifesto 2021 – 2026.

That is what is called mature politics.

LET US APPRECIATE WHERE GOVERNMENT HAS DONE WELL – FR THOLOSI

September 1, 2025

Mpumba, Lavushimanda – Our Lady of Fatima Parish Priest, Fr Emmanuel Tholosi, has called on citizens to cultivate humility and learn to appreciate the good works being done by government.

Delivering his homily during a Church service attended by Science and Technology Minister Felix Mutati, yesterday, Fr Tholosi said true humility requires people to recognize blessings and progress, rather than only complain.

“We cannot have citizens who criticize everything. Even in leadership, there are good things we must acknowledge,” he said.

The priest pointed to free education and the school feeding program as examples of policies that have lessened household burdens. “Our children are learning for free, and they come home satisfied,” he added.

The father also thanked the government for building the only mortuary in Mpumba area, Chikanda Ward, stating that this has really helped because previously people had challenges taking care of the dead.

Fr Tholosi reminded leaders to be humble and admit shortcomings. “Even when things are not done, leaders must say sorry,” he said.

Mr Mutati, who was accompanied by newly elected Mfuwe Constituency MP Malama Mufumelo, thanked the parish for its warm welcome.

“On behalf of the MP, we are grateful for the confidence you have shown by voting for him. He must now work hard to deliver,” Mr Mutati said. He urged the new area MP to always be close to the people by paying attention to their needs.

The Minister announced that government is launching two 4G Zamtel network towers in Chiundaponde Chiefdom to address communication challenges.

He added that government has since started building a new boma. He revealed that the government has started constructing the new boma with structures like the civic center, bringing electricity to make sure Lavushimanda is developt.

The Minister also assured farmers that government will push and ensure the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) buys their produce so that they can have money to buy farming inputs for the coming farming season.

Meanwhile, Mr Mufumelo thanked the people of Mfuwe for giving him the chance to serve, promising to remain available and accountable.

KANCHIBIYA CHIEFS CALL FOR EMBATTLED BILL 7 TO PROCEED DEMANDING DELIMITATION

KANCHIBIYA CHIEFS CALL FOR EMBATTLED BILL 7 TO PROCEED DEMANDING DELIMITATION

By Michael Kaluba

Chiefs in kanchibiya district have urged the government to proceed with the constitution amendment process to allow for the delimitation of constituencies.

The call was made yesterday when the speaker of the national assembly, Nelly Mutti, paid a courtesy call on Senior Chief Kopa, Chief Luchembe, Chief Kabinga and Chief Mpepo during her tour of Muchinga province.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional leaders, Chief Kabinga said the delimitation of constituencies would promote equitable distribution of resources and fast-track development across the country.

The chiefs also commended President Hakainde Hichilema and his administration for increasing the Constituency Development Fund -CDF- allocation to K36.1 million, saying Kanchibiya district has recorded unprecedented progress as a result.

Ms. Mutti is on a provincial tour where she is visiting all constituency offices to check on their operations and engage with stakeholders.

Chiefs to start getting over K11,500 per month in next budget

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has promised chiefs across the country that government will increase their allowances in the next national budget.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1A4YpyFoLj/

Currently, senior chiefs receive K11,500 per month, while junior chiefs get K10,000.

President Hichilema also assured chiefs’ retainers known locally as Kapasos that they too will also get a salary increment so they can serve chiefs better.

At present, Kapasos across the country earn K2,300 per month.

About a week ago, Kalemba ran two stories in which Northern and Luapula Provinces’ chiefs and Kapasos complained about their monthly payments, lamenting that the money was not enough to sustain them.

Yesterday, during the celebration of the Kulamba Traditional Ceremony of the Chewa people in Katete, President Hichilema announced that government had heard the cries of traditional leaders and in the next budget, their allowances would be increased.

“I’m glad here, using this platform, Kalonga Gawa Undi to announce that this coming budget, we are increasing the retainers’ and the chiefs’ allowances. I’m glad to announce that, because we have heard the message and I think it’s a correct messsge that we address those issues,” said the Head of State.

President Hichilema also shared that government would continue upgrading their livelihoods of the chiefs and their retainers by providing them with better houses and palaces.

He said social support programmes such as Social Cash Transfer, Cash for Work will also continue to work for the less advantaged in society.

“We need to continue taking care of our people, God did not make us the same, He made us different, some are capable, some are less capable, some are differently abled, so it’s our duty to take care of all our population in totality and then to also ask our people through you to work hard,” he stated.

The President shared that the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) will also continue to improve lives and urged chiefs to supervise local authorities on the proper use of the fund where necessary.

“We will continue with the decentralisation policy because the local authorities are closer to the people and they understand them better. Our CDF will continue. We encourage you to be the natural supervisors of these programmes, whisper to us if you are not happy,” said President Hichilema.

We can’t have civil servants surviving on loans  – Njobvu

We can’t have civil servants surviving on loans  – Njobvu

…as East minister alarmed by suicide cases

By Francis Chipalo

Democratic Union (DU) President Ackim Antony Njobvu has expressed concern over civil servants relying on loans to survive due to low salaries, affecting productivity and contributing to increased suicide cases in the Eastern Province.

Njobvu is urging the government to consider increasing salaries for public service workers, following President Hakainde Hichilema’s announcement to adjust salaries for chiefs in the next year’s budget.

Njobvu has commended President Hichilema’s intentions of wanting to adjust salaries for traditional leaders.

The President made the announcement during the Kulamba traditional ceremony in Katete District.

Speaking to journalists shortly after attending the commissioning of St. Martin Parish in the district on Sunday, Njobvu called on government to consider increasing salaries for public service workers too

Njobvu noted that most civil servants were surviving on loans due to poor salaries being given.

He said high cost of living had given citizens too much pressure, and was one of the leading causes of suicide in the  eastern province.

“A K10,000 salary increment across the board for civil servants would not be a bad idea. This would alleviate their sufferings,  otherwise it is very sad that majority of our public service workers are surviving on loans,” Njobvu said.

Njobvu argued that recent financial flows were an indication that the country has the money to better conditions of service for public service workers.

He called for the respect of civil servants.

“If this not done next year, I will make sure that once the DU forms government in 2027, salaries for civil servants will be adjusted without debate. We need to motivate them in order for Zambia to be productive,” he added.

Meanwhile, eastern province minister Peter Phiri expressed concern on suicide cases in the region.

Phiri described suicide levels which had even seen some civil servants taking their own lives as alarming.

The minister appealed to the church to offer prayers while government does its part in addressing the matter.

The eastern province had recently reported an increase in the number of suicide cases in 2025, statistics the Democratic Union leader said were worrying.

He emphasized on the need to among others, addressing cost of living as well as investing in mental health services.

OFFICIAL RESPONSE TO SOCIALIST PARTY CLAIMS ON DEMOCRATIC SPACE

OFFICIAL RESPONSE TO SOCIALIST PARTY CLAIMS ON DEMOCRATIC SPACE

By: Timmy

We have taken note of remarks made by Dr. Cosmas Musumali of the Socialist Party (SP), alleging that the United Party for National Development (UPND) administration has denied his party democratic space.

First and foremost, it is important to state clearly: under President Hakainde Hichilema, Zambia’s democratic space has never been broader, safer, or more respected. Citizens are free to assemble, free to associate, free to express themselves, and free to criticize government without fear of persecution freedoms that were under severe threat in the past

What must also be understood is that the management of public gatherings is not a political decision, but a professional and constitutional responsibility of law enforcement agencies. Each request to hold a rally is assessed based on public order, security considerations, and the ability to ensure the safety of all Zambians. No political party  UPND included  is above these requirements.

Dr. Musumali’s comparison to the Patriotic Front era is misleading. Under PF, opposition leaders were routinely arrested, tear-gassed, and blocked even from moving freely across the country. In contrast, today leaders of the opposition, civil society, and media practitioners freely hold press briefings, radio programmes, church meetings, and community engagements without harassment. This is the true measure of democratic growth.

It is also worth reminding Zambians that democracy is not measured by the number of rallies held, but by the strength of institutions, protection of rights, and delivery of development. On all these fronts, the UPND government under President Hakainde Hichilema is making steady progress stabilising the economy, lowering inflation, attracting investment, reforming the justice system, and improving access to education and healthcare.

The assertion that the President is “Bashi Promise” is both unfair and uninformed. In just four years, this administration has:

Recruited record numbers of teachers, health workers, and security personnel.

Introduced free education from primary to secondary school.

Expanded the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to empower communities directly.

Restored Zambia’s international credibility and restructured unsustainable debt.

These are not promises  they are deliverables.

The Presidency assures the nation that no political party will ever be denied its constitutional right to exist and operate. However, all political activity must remain within the framework of law, order, and public safety. The government welcomes issue-based politics that strengthen unity and contribute to national development, not rhetoric aimed at dividing the people.

Zambia belongs to all of us. Let us defend it with facts, not fear.

We urge our citizens to share, like, and comment on this page. Let the truth about our democracy and President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership be known to every corner of the country.

Mr Malanji is jointly charged with former Secretary to the Treasury Fredson Yamba on allegations of possession of property suspected of being proceeds of crime and willful failure to follow procedure.

Allegations are that  between January 2020 and August 2021, Mr Yamba, then serving as Secretary to the Treasury, irregularly authorised the transfer of K108 million to the Zambian Mission in Turkey for real estate procurement.

Mr Malanji is solely accused of possession of property suspected of being proceeds of crime, among them a Bell 430 helicopter, a Bell 206 Jet Ranger, the Gibson Royal Hotel, and three houses in Silverest.

MAN DEMANDS DNA TEST, AFTER ‘FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS’ RESULTS IN PREGNANCY

MAN DEMANDS DNA TEST, AFTER ‘FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS’ RESULTS IN PREGNANCY

A 22-year-old man from Lusaka has dragged his 18-year-old friend to court, seeking clarification on whether he is the father of her seven-month-old child.

Bernard Kabwai told the Matero Local Court that he was confused as to why Gladys Sengula insisted he was the father, noting that she had also been intimate with some of his friends.

When the matter came before Magistrate Lewis Mumba, Kabwai admitted to having been intimate with Sengula, but only once.

In her defence, Sengula disputed Kabwai’s claim, insisting that their sexual relationship occurred on multiple occasions at his house.

Kabwai, however, maintained that he did not believe he was the father and asked that a DNA test be conducted to determine the truth.

COURT BAILIFFS SEIZE MUNALI NICKEL MINE ASSETS OVER UNPAID DUES

COURT BAILIFFS SEIZE MUNALI NICKEL MINE ASSETS OVER UNPAID DUES

Court bailiffs in Mazabuka have seized assorted goods from Mabiza Resources Limited, a company operating Munali Nickel Mine.

Among the seized goods are earth-moving equipment, vehicles, and office furniture.

A notice of Sheriff’s sale by public auction, seen by Byta FM News, indicates that Lemmer Hydraulic Limited dragged Mabiza Resources Limited to court over unpaid dues.

The seized goods will be auctioned on 3rd and 4th September 2025, at the Mazabuka Subordinate Court.

Among the goods to be auctioned are an Eproc dump truck, a Tata bus, a Toyota Hilux, a front-end loader, a bulldozer, a Tata tipper truck, and an excavator.

Earlier in May, Mabiza Resources Limited management abruptly shut down operations at the mine, sending workers on paid leave.

However, workers have gone two months without getting paid.

The mine owes workers salaries, as well as contractors and suppliers of goods and services.

Southern Province Minister Credo Najuwa recently visited the mine on a fact-finding mission, during which he ordered management to resume operations and pay workers.

ALEXANDER – A NEW HOPE FOR MATERO UNDER THE UPND GOVERNMENT

ALEXANDER – A NEW HOPE FOR MATERO UNDER THE UPND GOVERNMENT

By: WAGON MEDIA

Matero deserves more. Matero deserves better. Matero deserves Alexander.

For too long, the hardworking people of Matero have carried the weight of underdevelopment. But today, under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND government, there is a real opportunity to change this story.

A Practical Plan for Matero
With a budget allocation of K36.1 million, it is true that we cannot build everything at once. But with smart prioritisation, phased projects, and strong community partnerships with government, tangible results will be seen every single year.

By the end of 5 years, Matero will not be the same:
✅ More clinics to bring healthcare closer to the people.
✅ More classrooms to give every child a fair chance.
✅ More boreholes to end water challenges.

ECONOMIC ANALYST PREDICTS ZAMBIA TO HIT SINGLE-DIGIT INFLATION BY 2027 AND NOT 2026

ECONOMIC ANALYST PREDICTS ZAMBIA TO HIT SINGLE-DIGIT INFLATION BY 2027 AND NOT 2026

By Chamuka Shalubala

Economic analyst Yusuf Dodia says Zambia is more likely to achieve a single-digit inflation by 2027, rather than 2026, if the government remains committed to its current economic strategies.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Dodia stressed that consistency in policy implementation is critical to sustaining the positive progress made so far.

He has cautioned that any shift away from these strategies could delay the reduction of inflation and undermine long-term economic growth.

Mr. Dodia adds that steady investment and strong policy continuity will be essential for Zambia to reach its inflation targets in the coming years.

His remarks come as President Hakainde Hichilema recently assured the nation that the government is working hard to achieve single-digit inflation by late 2025 or early 2026.

Lusaka City Council Woman Engineer Jailed Over Village Bank Money She Stole

A VILLAGE banking group administrator has been sentenced to one year imprisonment for falsely obtaining over K500,000, which she had borrowed from members of the informal financial co-operative.

Apart from serving the 12 months jail term, Naomi Kwenye, a 35-year-old valuation surveyor at Lusaka City Council, has been ordered to pay back the money to the owners.

When jailing the weeping convict on Friday, Lusaka resident magistrate Crispin Hampungani said Kwenye, of Chelstone, betrayed the trust of village group banking members.

The court heard that when the members demanded for the money, the accused claimed that she had invested it in another scheme with Josvic Investments, but that she was allegedly scammed.

The accused, who was charged with theft, is said to have borrowed money using another member’s details and failed to pay back.

ZAMBIA’S HAPPINESS RANKING DROPS

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

Zambia has slipped to 134th place globally in the 2025 World Happiness Report, down from 128th in 2024, with a happiness score of 3.5, highlighting a decline in self reported life satisfaction.

Regionally, Zambia ranks 26th in Africa, trailing behind several neighboring countries.

Tanzania is ranked 116, Malawi 120, Zimbabwe 124, Botswana 105, and Mozambique 141.

The report attributes these rankings to factors including social support, freedom to make life choices, generosity, perceptions of corruption, and healthy life expectancy.

However Zambia’s score remains well below the global average of 5.56, underscoring persistent economic and social challenges.

According to WHR the decline may be linked to economic hardship, governance issues, and limited access to healthcare and public services.

MINING INVESTORS MUST PUT ZAMBIANS FIRST – ANDD

MINING INVESTORS MUST PUT ZAMBIANS FIRST – ANDD

….. Zambians must not remain “spectators in their own economy.”

Kitwe, 1 September 2025 (SMART EAGLES)

The Advocates for National Development and Democracy (ANDD) has urged mining investors operating in Zambia to prioritize local participation in the mining sector, saying Zambians must not remain “spectators in their own economy.”

ANDD Executive Director, Samuel Banda, said Zambia’s minerals are the birthright of its people, and foreign investors must ensure meaningful partnerships with local businesses in supply, contracting, logistics, and processing.

“Too often, Zambians watch from the sidelines while outsiders take the lion’s share of opportunities created from our own soil. This must change,” Mr Banda said.

He commended President Hakainde Hichilema for consistently calling on investors to work with Zambians in driving mining-led development, adding that ANDD fully supports the President’s stance.

Mr Banda also praised government for policies that have stabilized the mining sector but stressed that their full impact will only be felt if Zambians are active beneficiaries.

He singled out major mining houses such as Konkola Copper Mines, Mopani, and FQM, urging them to lead by example in supporting Zambian business entities.

“This is not just about fairness. It is about justice, dignity, and the future of our nation. When Zambian companies are empowered, jobs are created, skills are built, and wealth remains in our communities,” he said.

Mr Banda called on all mining investors to urgently set clear targets for Zambian participation and adopt fair business practices that ensure shared prosperity.

“It is time to put Zambians first,” he emphasized.

“Unity in Christ Can Heal What Politics Has Divided”- Dr. Kingsley Chanda

“Unity in Christ Can Heal What Politics Has Divided” Dr. Chanda

Dr. Kingsley Chanda has urged the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) to rise above political and tribal divisions by embracing unity and economic self-reliance as the church celebrates 60 years of ministry.

Speaking at the Men’s Christian Fellowship (MCF) Conference, where he was officially welcomed as a member of the fellowship, Dr. Chanda reminded the gathering that the strength of the UCZ lies not only in its numbers but in its ability to live out the gospel through unity and action.

“Our first identity is in Christ, not in tribe. Our unity in Christ can heal what politics has divided,” he said, drawing loud applause from the audience.

Dr. Chanda emphasized that unity was not just a spiritual command but also a national necessity. He called on Christians to model reconciliation and brotherhood in a country increasingly tested by political intolerance and ethnic tensions.

“We cannot claim to love God while hating our neighbour. Zambia will stand or fall on the strength of our unity. The church must lead the way in showing that we are one family under Christ,” he added.

Beyond unity, Dr. Chanda challenged UCZ to embrace economic independence by putting its land, enterprises, and skilled membership to productive use. He noted that self-reliance would empower the church to feed communities, support youth evangelism, and create jobs.

“God has blessed UCZ with fertile land, idle businesses, and skilled members. These are not just assets, they are opportunities. This must change, and it must change now,” he said.

He further reminded the men of their responsibility to be priests, protectors, and providers in their homes and communities, calling for faith expressed through humility, service, and care for the vulnerable.

Quoting scripture, Dr. Chanda declared: “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord,” urging the Men’s Christian Fellowship to be remembered as a movement that builds bridges, ignites revival, and restores hope.

As the UCZ marks six decades of ministry, Dr. Chanda’s message resonated as both a call to action and a vision for a church that unites spiritual revival with social and economic transformation.

GOVT REVISES K16 MILLION RONGXING MINE AND SINO METALS POLLUTION COMPENSATION INTO MULTI-YEAR PLAN

By Nelson Zulu

Mines and Minerals Development Permanent Secretary Dr. Hapenga Kabeta has clarified that the ongoing compensation for farmers and other affected residents on the Copperbelt is only interim, as government has not yet established the full extent of pollution from the collapse of tailings facilities at Rongxing Mine and Sino metals.

Dr. Kabeta explains that the initial payouts were based on a first-round assessment, noting that the previously quoted K16 million has now been revised in favour of a multi-year compensation plan to reflect long-term losses.

He says final compensation levels, as well as the scope of a clean-up, will be guided by an independent technical assessment, a study that will shape decisions on the scale and duration of compensation, as well as technical requirements for remediation.

Dr. Kabeta says the Ministry has already initiated the process to appoint a consultant through the Zambia Environmental Management Agency–ZEMA, to determine the environmental impact and recommend remedial measures before the rainy season.

Dr. Kabeta has urged affected residents to remain patient while the assessment is carried out, assuring them that the government will use the findings to implement a coordinated clean-up and an evidence-based compensation framework.

Authorities Crack Down On Fake Medical Degrees Flooding Zimbabwe’s Health Sector

Authorities are cracking down on criminal networks that are aggressively selling fake medical degree degrees to unqualified individuals. An investigation has uncovered a thriving black market for fake degrees and diplomas, allowing impostors to masquerade as doctors and nurses within the nation’s healthcare system.

The price for a new, fraudulent identity in the medical profession is shockingly low. For a mere US$200, one can purchase a nursing diploma. A full medical degree, complete with forged transcripts, official-looking seals, and deceptive QR codes, is available for around US$500, a fraction of the cost of genuine university tuition.

Fake Medical Degrees Flood Zimbabwe’s Health Sector
The clientele for these forgery syndicates is varied, encompassing everything from medical professionals seeking illicit promotions to complete fraudsters with no training whatsoever. The documents are reportedly printed in bulk on sophisticated security paper, using templates easily sourced online, making detection increasingly difficult for employers.

The Nurses Council of Zimbabwe (NCZ) has acknowledged the severe challenge, confirming that several individuals have already faced legal consequences. In a written statement, the Council revealed,

“A total of seven individuals were flagged for using fake practising certificates from 2024 to date.”

Over the past five years, numerous cases have resulted in certificate revocations and criminal prosecutions.

The Council is fighting back with technology. “We are enhancing digital infrastructure to prevent the forgery of Nursing Certificates,” they stated, confirming the introduction of new security measures, including holograms, QR codes, and digital verification systems, to ensure the authenticity of official documents.

Impostors In The Hospital Ward
Recent court cases highlight the alarming ease with which these impostors can infiltrate the system. In a notorious Bulawayo case, a man known as Taurai Prosper Vanhuvaone successfully posed as ‘Dr Prosper Mpofu’ for nearly two years, treating patients and prescribing medication at two major central hospitals before finally being exposed and jailed for fraud.

Vigilance is now paramount. Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare has become a key line of defence, with its security teams apprehending 33 fake doctors and tutors in 2023 alone. A further 11 were arrested in the first four months of this year. One individual was caught only when seasoned staff noticed he was holding an X-ray plate upside down.

TIMBER PRODUCERS SAY SECTOR FARED BETTER UNDER PF COMPARED TO UPND

TIMBER PRODUCERS SAY SECTOR FARED BETTER UNDER PF COMPARED TO UPND

By Michael Kaluba

The Timber Producers’ Association of Zambia-TPAZ president Charles Masange has charged that the UPND government has neglected the timber industry, saying the sector was better managed under the Patriotic Front-PF administration.

Mr. Masange argues that the industry currently suffers from a lack of political will, despite Zambia’s vast timber potential, particularly the mukula tree, whose trade remains suspended indefinitely.

The timber producers’ association president notes that under the PF, the sector benefited from government-backed projects such as the construction of schools and hospitals, but claims that under the UPND, even Constituency Development Fund-CDF projects are being captured by politically connected individuals.

Mr. Masange also points to policy inconsistencies, including the unresolved ban on Mukula exports, which he says was challenged in the courts and should have been restored following a ruling.

He further cites structural changes, such as the transfer of the forestry department to the new ministry of green economy and environment and ministerial reshuffles, as factors that have negatively impacted the sector and further made it difficult for industry players to access climate action funds from european partners for the past four years.

Ramaphosa furious as Masemola returns political killings dockets

Ramaphosa furious as Masemola returns political killings dockets

President Cyril Ramaphosa is reportedly “fuming” over National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola’s decision to return 121 case dockets to the KwaZulu-Natal Political Killings Task Team, a move that has sparked concerns about undermining the newly established Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, report News24.

The commission, chaired by retired Constitutional Court Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, was set up to investigate allegations of corruption and political interference within the South African Police Service (SAPS).

The controversy stems from Masemola’s announcement, made on the sidelines of the 27th INTERPOL African Regional Conference in Cape Town, that the dockets, previously removed from the task team, would be returned to KwaZulu-Natal for further investigation.

These dockets are central to allegations raised by KZN Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who claimed in July that suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and Deputy Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya had interfered with the task team’s work, potentially shielding politically connected individuals.

Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia expressed dismay at Masemola’s decision, arguing that it was premature given the Madlanga Commission’s mandate to probe these very issues.

“The Political Killings Task Team is at the heart of the allegations, and steps taken before the commission’s investigation could compromise its work,” Cachalia said, urging Masemola to submit a detailed report on the task team immediately.

The Madlanga Commission, originally set to begin hearings on September 1, has been delayed due to procurement issues, further fueling tensions.

As the nation awaits clarity, the rift between Ramaphosa’s administration and SAPS leadership raises questions about the integrity of efforts to combat political violence and corruption.

Mutharika fires back at critics: “I will lead Malawi for five years, not one month”

Mutharika fires back at critics: “I will lead Malawi for five years, not one month”

By: Malawi24

During a major rally at Chilimampunga Ground in Mtandire, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Arthur Peter Mutharika strongly dismissed claims from political rivals, particularly from the United Transformation Movement (UTM), that questioned his ability to serve a full term if elected.

Addressing a large crowd of supporters, Mutharika rejected allegations made by UTM officials, led by Dalitso Kabambe, suggesting he would step down after just one month in office in favor of his vice president.

“I’ve worked too hard for this party to step aside and hand leadership to someone else. That’s nonsense,” Mutharika declared. “I will win this election, and I will serve a full five years as your president.”

The comments came as Mutharika confronted UTM, whose leader, Dalitso Kabambe, defected from the DPP earlier this year. “Your party came from the DPP. You allied with MCP and managed to win together. But this is the last time I will respond to you,” Mutharika said, warning his rivals to stop spreading “foolishness.” He added: “Don’t test me; I will fight back. Stop now. This should be the last time.”

Reflecting on his return to politics, Mutharika, who previously served as Malawi’s president from 2014 to 2020, emphasized his renewed commitment to bringing meaningful change to the country. “In 2019, they chased me from the State House, but now I’m back to bring real transformation. On September 16, you must elect me,” he urged.

Mutharika painted a grim picture of Malawi’s current situation, noting the country’s ranking as the third least developed and second in terms of widespread suffering and hunger. “Malawi needs change,” he said. “We will do everything in our power to save this country and free it from its current challenges.”

He vowed to end tribal politics and unite the nation. “Under my leadership, there will be no fear. No one will be persecuted for opposing the government. We will work tirelessly to uplift this country,” he promised. “Tribal politics will be a thing of the past.”

Addressing persistent rumors about his potential early departure from office, Mutharika reiterated his commitment to a full term. “People say that if I win, I will leave office in one month. That’s absolute nonsense,” he said. “I’ve dedicated years to building this party. Am I supposed to abandon it now?”

He stressed that, if elected, he would serve a full five years and use that time to transform Malawi. “By the end of my term, Malawi will be in a better place. If you elect me, I will change this country, and you will see it thrive like Singapore. You will be so grateful you’ll wish I could stay longer.”

In closing, Mutharika urged voters to carefully review his manifesto, which he described as a blueprint for national transformation. “This manifesto contains the roadmap to a better Malawi. I urge you to read it carefully.”

FNB Warns of Scam Selling South African Accounts to Zimbabweans

FNB Warns of Scam Selling South African Business Accounts to Zimbabweans

First National Bank (FNB) has raised the alarm over a scam where criminals are illegally selling South African business accounts to non-residents, mainly in Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

According to the bank, the fraudsters pose as FNB representatives and use stolen or fake documents to open accounts under bogus company names.

How FNB Scam Selling South African Accounts to Zimbabweans Works
Roshan Jelal, Head of Fraud at FNB Commercial Chief Risk Office, explained that the criminals trick people by pretending to be FNB staff. They then rope in either willing accomplices or unsuspecting individuals, using forged passports, proof of address, and fake identities to set up these accounts.

“These perpetrators are reportedly registering companies as South African entities. To this end, these criminals will use complicit or unsuspecting victims, stolen identities, or synthetic identities, including passports, proof of address, and related party identification to open business profiles under false pretences”.

A Wider Fraud Problem
This warning comes at a time when financial fraud is on the rise in South Africa. The National Financial Ombud (NFO) recently revealed that digital banking fraud complaints have shot up by 73% in just a year — from 1,436 cases between January and May 2024 to 2,483 in the same period this year.

The bank made it clear that these activities are illegal and not linked to its operations. FNB stressed that it does not operate in Zimbabwe and has not authorised any such business account openings in the region. It added that new measures are being put in place to detect and block this kind of fraud.

“This activity is unauthorised and constitutes a serious breach of its policies and brand integrity. The bank does not operate in Zimbabwe and has not sanctioned any such account openings in that region. FNB is developing proactive measures to detect and prevent such fraudulent account openings and will continue to raise awareness through its official channels,” FNB said.

FNB also warned that anyone caught selling, facilitating, or using these fake accounts could face severe legal consequences.

Al Ahly Fires Jose Riveiro After Poor Start to Season

Al Ahly Fires Jose Riveiro After Poor Start to Season

Al Ahly have fired head coach Jose Riveiro after a disastrous start to the season.

Why Jose Riveiro Was Fired by Al Ahly?
The Spanish coach, who previously worked at Orlando Pirates, managed just one win in seven games. Saturday’s 2-0 home loss to African champions Pyramid FC proved to be the breaking point.

On Sunday, the club confirmed that Riveiro and his assistant had left by mutual consent.

In their statement, Al Ahly explained that the decision came after long discussions with the club’s top leadership, including president Mahmoud Al-Khatib and sports director Mohamed Youssef. They said Riveiro had worked hard and given his best, but the poor results made it impossible to continue. The club stressed that their ambitions are much higher, both in Egypt and in African competitions.

“The club thanked Mr. Jose Ribeiro, the technical director of the first football team, and his assistant for the past period, and the contractual relationship was terminated by mutual consent. This came after the meetings of the planning committee in the presence of Captain Mahmoud Al-Khatib, President of the Club, and Captain Mohamed Youssef, the Sports Director, which started at eleven o’clock this morning and lasted for several hours, during which the reports submitted by both the Sports Director and the Technical Director were discussed, and in light of them, the aforementioned decision was made.”

Next Steps for the Club
The statement also noted that the planning committee is already meeting to decide who will take charge next.

“In its meeting with Jose Ribeiro, the committee stressed its appreciation for what he has done since taking charge, and that he has made a lot of effort, but the results did not help to complete the experience, at a time when the club seeks to achieve the great ambitions of its fans at the local and continental levels. The planning committee continues its meetings to settle on the final concept of the technical staff that will lead the team during the next stage,” the statement read.

Al Ahly’s struggles this season have left them sitting in 12th place with just one point from five league games, a position far below the standards expected of the Cairo giants.

Leon Schuster’s films make comeback on DStv and Showmax after racial sensitivity ban

Leon Schuster’s films make comeback on DStv and Showmax after racial sensitivity ban

MultiChoice has reinstated several of Leon Schuster’s classic films on DStv and Showmax, ending a five-year ban that followed allegations of racial insensitivity.

The move comes after a global content review in 2020, triggered by the Black Lives Matter movement, which originally saw Schuster’s films removed for blackface and racial stereotyping.

Titles including Sweet & Short, There’s a Zulu on My Stoep, Your Country Needs You, and Oh Schucks, I’m Gatvol are now part of a curated collection on Showmax. MultiChoice stated the films were “not banned” and emphasized content reviews to ensure regulatory compliance. The release coincides with a new KykNet documentary on Schuster, set for 1 October.

Known for slapstick comedy and candid-camera pranks, Schuster’s films have long been box-office hits in South Africa, though their use of blackface drew criticism for perpetuating harmful stereotypes.

In 2020, Showmax removed nine films, permanently delisting five due to “negative racial stereotyping.” Schuster previously defended his work as innocent comedy but expressed regret for profiting from blackface.

The reinstatement has sparked debate. Showmax highlighted its aim to create shared viewing experiences while acknowledging past mistakes.

The move also comes amid 50% subscriber growth for Showmax, contrasted with a 17% decline in premium DStv subscriptions since 2021.

Public reaction is mixed, with fans celebrating the return and critics questioning the decision given the films’ controversial history.

Chidimma Adetshina crowned Miss Universe Nigeria successor online after fallout

Chidimma Adetshina crowned Miss Universe Nigeria successor online after fallout

Reigning Miss Universe Nigeria and Miss Universe Africa & Oceania, Chidimma Vanessa Adetshina, did not attend the 2025 Miss Universe Nigeria finale in person to crown her successor. Instead, she passed the crown virtually.

The finale, held this past weekend at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, proceeded without Adetshina on stage.

Adetshina cited a fallout with organizers and her outspoken support for fellow contestant Nyekachi Douglas as reasons for her absence. In a bold statement posted online, she wrote:

“I STAND WITH YOU! You deserve every opportunity to compete… TELL YOUR STORY.”

The beauty queen, known for her strong advocacy and fearless presence, also unfollowed the official Miss Universe Nigeria account, fueling speculoation about tensions behind the scenes.

Adetshina’s reign had been anything but conventional, and her decision to break tradition ensured that the finale was one of the most talked-about in the pageant’s history.

Pirates fans rally for Jose Riveiro’s return as technical director after Al Ahly exit

Pirates fans rally for Jose Riveiro’s return as technical director after Al Ahly exit

Orlando Pirates fans are buzzing with calls for their former head coach, Jose Riveiro, to return to the club as a technical director following his abrupt sacking by Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

The Spaniard, who left Pirates in May 2025 to take the helm at Al Ahly, was dismissed after just four games into the Egyptian Premier League season, culminating in a 2-0 defeat to Pyramids FC on Saturday night.

Riveiro’s tenure at Pirates was nothing short of transformative. Over three years, he delivered three consecutive MTN8 titles, two Nedbank Cups, and guided the Buccaneers to the CAF Champions League semi-finals, earning him a special place in the hearts of the Pirates faithful.

His departure to Al Ahly, while seen as a step up, left many supporters longing for his tactical acumen and calm leadership.

Social media posts have captured the sentiment, with fans urging the club to rehire Riveiro in an director role.

However, Riveiro’s brief stint at Al Ahly was marred by intense pressure and high expectations. Critics labeled him “unqualified” for the role, citing the immense scrutiny at the 12-time CAF Champions League winners, where anything less than dominance is unacceptable.

Despite his efforts, Al Ahly’s slow start with just one win and two draws in their opening league matches sealed his fate.

While some Pirates fans dream of Riveiro’s return, others question whether a technical director role would suit the 49-year-old, who thrived as a hands-on coach.

With Orlando Pirates now under new management, having appointed Abdeslam Ouaddou as head coach, this looks very unlikely.

For now, the Sea Robbers’ faithful can only wait and see if their calls will be answered, as Riveiro’s next move remains a topic of intense speculation in South African football circles.

SACP removes Gwede Mantashe from central committee amid escalating ANC tensions

SACP removes Gwede Mantashe from central committee amid escalating ANC tensions

The South African Communist Party (SACP) has removed ANC national chairperson Gwede Mantashe from its central committee, a move that highlights escalating strains within the Tripartite Alliance.

The decision comes as the SACP prepares to contest the 2026 local government elections independently, a step that has unsettled its long-standing ally, the African National Congress (ANC).

Mantashe, a former SACP chairperson, was dismissed amid mounting disagreements over electoral strategies and ideological direction.

The ANC has warned its members against supporting rival parties, with Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula cautioning that dual membership could trigger disciplinary action against leaders such as Mantashe, Higher Education Minister Buti Manamela, and Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Blade Nzimande.

SACP spokesperson Mbulelo Mandlana defended the move, accusing the ANC of undermining its partners. “The process of elections and deployment involves the alliance, not just the ANC,” he said, insisting that dual membership remains central to their partnership.

The rift comes against the backdrop of the ANC’s government of national unity, which includes the Democratic Alliance, a party the SACP views as hostile to socialist principles. Analysts warn that the alliance’s fractures could reshape South Africa’s political landscape ahead of 2026.

Mkhwanazi suspends KZN SAPS officer for alleged political involvement

Mkhwanazi suspends KZN SAPS officer for alleged political involvement

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in KwaZulu-Natal has suspended another officer pending a misconduct investigation, following allegations of the officer wearing political party regalia and actively participating in political events.

The suspension underscores SAPS’ commitment to maintaining neutrality among its members, as required by the SAPS Code of Conduct.

The officer, whose identity has not been disclosed, is accused of breaching regulations that prohibit police personnel from engaging in partisan political activities.

SAPS spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe confirmed the suspension, stating, “The officer’s actions are being investigated to determine the extent of the misconduct. SAPS remains impartial and will not tolerate behavior that compromises our integrity.”

This incident follows a series of similar suspensions in the province, raising concerns about political influence within the police force. The investigation is expected to conclude within 60 days, with further disciplinary action to follow if the allegations are substantiated.

The public is urged to report any similar incidents to SAPS to ensure accountability and uphold the service’s impartiality.

DR Congo rejects Thabo Mbeki Foundation’s peace dialogue invitation amid bias concerns

DRC rejects Thabo Mbeki Foundation’s peace dialogue invitation amid bias concerns

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) government has declined an invitation to participate in a peace and security dialogue hosted by the Thabo Mbeki Foundation, scheduled for September 3-6 here in South Africa.

The decision, announced by government spokesperson Patrick Muyaya, stems from accusations of bias against former President Thabo Mbeki, who Congolese officials claim has shown favoritism toward the M23 rebels and Rwanda in past statements on the eastern DRC conflict.

The dialogue aimed to bring together Congolese officials, civil society, opposition leaders, religious figures, and armed groups, including M23, to address ongoing violence in the region.

However, Kinshasa dismissed the initiative as “inappropriate,” citing Mbeki’s alleged alignment with former DRC President Joseph Kabila, who faces treason charges linked to the M23 rebellion.

Critics in the DRC argue that Mbeki’s remarks have historically leaned toward narratives that could destabilize the region.

The Thabo Mbeki Foundation, known for promoting African-led solutions to peace and security challenges, has not yet responded to the DRC’s withdrawal.

ActionSA targets 42 municipalities in 2026 elections

ActionSA targets 42 municipalities in 2026 elections

ActionSA, led by Herman Mashaba, will contest no more than 42 municipalities in the 2026 Local Government Elections, adopting a targeted strategy to maximize impact.

The party says its focus will be on restoring essential services such as water, sanitation, electricity, and roads, while tackling corruption and mismanagement.

National Chairperson Michael Beaumont said the campaign would emphasize “accountable, people-centered governance,” building on ActionSA’s 2021 performance where it contested only six municipalities but won 2% of the national vote.

The decision follows ActionSA’s merger with the Forum 4 Service Delivery (F4SD) and the launch of its “Big Green Umbrella” initiative, aimed at uniting independents and smaller parties to reduce ballot fragmentation.

Mashaba positioned the party as an “unofficial opposition” to the Government of National Unity, pledging a professional, grassroots-driven campaign to address service delivery failures.

With elections expected between November 2026 and February 2027, ActionSA hopes its selective approach will reshape governance in key municipalities.

Unemployment fuels gender-based violence crisis in South Africa

Unemployment fuels gender-based violence crisis in South Africa

High unemployment is a major driver of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) in South Africa, according to a lecture at Nelson Mandela University honoring activist Dr Brigalia Bam.

Dr Bam warned that poverty and joblessness create conditions that heighten violence, particularly against women.

“Economic dependence and frustration can lead to violent behaviors,” she said, stressing the need for stronger role models and a shift in societal values.

Research backs these concerns. A 2024 Human Sciences Research Council study found that one in three women has suffered physical intimate partner violence, while the South African Medical Research Council reports that three women are killed daily by partners.

Although government initiatives such as the National Strategic Plan on GBVF and the new National Council on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide focus on empowerment and legislative reform, activists argue that addressing unemployment and entrenched gender norms is vital.

Experts are calling for holistic solutions from job creation to community programs to tackle what has been described as South Africa’s “second pandemic.”

Ex-Trump insider flags ‘alarming’ news about president’s health

Donald Trump’s health is “deteriorating” behind closed doors, according to a former insider.

Ex-Trump associate Lev Parnas on Sunday reported on some of the devastation going on in Ukraine at the hands of Russia. He the delved into the president’s health.

“And where is Trump? Absent. Silent. He has not appeared publicly in more than three days. Social media is ablaze with rumors that he is dead,” he wrote. “My sources tell me he is not. But what I am hearing is even more alarming: Donald Trump’s health is deteriorating. His condition is being kept very close, whispered about only among the tightest circle.”

According to Parnas, “The reality is, something is wrong. Very wrong. And while America is kept in the dark, while his inner circle hides it, dictators overseas are already calculating their next moves in a world without him.”

He went on to talk about the dangers of reporting on Trump’s operation.

“I tell you these things not lightly, but at great risk. I risk a lot by bringing you this information—and so do my sources—because these are not ordinary men. These are the most powerful men in the world, and they don’t play by rules. They don’t want you to hear what I am telling you now. But I know how they operate. I know the games they play. Remember, I was Trump’s right hand—the one he sent to carry out his shadow diplomacy in Eastern Europe, to put pressure on Zelensky, to deliver his threats.

I sat in the rooms. I watched their deals unfold in the shadows. And that’s why I know exactly what it means when Putin plays godfather, when Xi nods along, when Modi and Kim break tradition to show up at the same table. And I know, better than most, what it means when Trump is left behind,” Parnas wrote. “No matter the risk, I will not stay silent. They will not silence me. Silence is not an option—not now, not ever. If we don’t act now—if we don’t speak louder than ever before—there may not be a free world left to fight for. This isn’t just about saving American democracy. This is about saving the idea of freedom itself.”

Trump’s ‘atrocious’ plan to profit from Ukraine war stuns former diplomat

A former ambassador to Russia said on Sunday that the president’s plan to profit from the war in Ukraine is “atrocious.”

Michael McFaul, who served as the U.S. ambassador to Russia from 2012 to 2014, discussed President Donald Trump’s handling of the war in Ukraine on MSNBC’s “Alex Witt Reports” on Sunday. McFaul said Trump’s Russian counterpart has effectively been allowed to dictate how the war continues because Trump has been focused on the wrong objectives.

One aspect of the war that McFaul said Trump seems to be focused on is who is at fault for the peace negotiations breaking apart, instead of providing new weapons to Ukraine so they can continue fighting Russia. This has allowed Russian President Vladimir Putin to expand the war in Ukraine with almost no consequences, McFaul added.

“He needs to announce his new military assistance package for Ukraine,” McFaul said. “It’s great that he’s allowing the Europeans to buy them from us, but it is atrocious to me and embarrassing to me that we are now profiting from the war in Ukraine.”

Trump has also allowed Putin to cross his red lines with seeming impunity, McFaul said. That seems likely to continue unless Trump stands up to Putin, he added.

“The president has to put in place some consequences,” McFaul said. “He has to implement new sanctions. And not just on the Indians. Directly on the Russian banks that are still not sanctioned. Directly on the so-called shadow fleet that runs Russian oil around the world. He can seize their assets. We still have $5 billion to $10 billion of Russian central bank assets in the United States.”
