Fake Mr Bean: How a man disguised himself as Mr Bean, hosted a show in Zimbabwe where people paid to see him perform

Fake Mr Bean: How a man disguised himself as Mr Bean, hosted a show in Zimbabwe where people paid to see him perform

People in Zimbabwe paid to see world-renowned comedian Mr Bean perform in 2016, only to discover that the man was a fake Mr Bean.

It was later revealed that he was a Pakistani actor who took the program’s organizers for granted by disguising himself as Mr Bean simply because he resembled the original Rowan Atkinson.

This man was escorted by police in a car through the main streets of Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital. Zimbabweans flocked to the street to catch a glimpse of the man they see on television, who waved to them and basked in the spotlight.

This Pakistani man had his plane tickets paid for, his accommodations arranged and was the headline performer for the show, which had sold out tickets.

Zimbabweans are still shocked, even after realizing that they were duped and that the man who came in the name of Mr Bean and whom they paid to see was a FAKE Mr BEAN.

CYNK Officially Launched in Johannesburg: A Game-Changer in African Tech and Investment

CYNK Officially Launched in Johannesburg: A Game-Changer in African Tech and Investment

Albert Oosthuysen, Group CEO of Evotel and Net Nine Nine, has officially launched CYNK, a bold new tech and investment company created through the strategic merger of five influential entities. The launch took place in Sandton, Johannesburg on Friday, 11 July, marking a significant step forward in Africa’s digital transformation journey.

The formation of CYNK coincides with two major milestones: the 10-year anniversary of Evotel, a leading South African Fibre Network Operator (FNO), and the 5-year anniversary of Net Nine Nine, an innovative Internet Service Provider (ISP) with a footprint in eight provinces. The new company, CYNK, brings together these two powerhouses along with three other organisations, Magnolia Fibre Tree, Internet for Education, and Linklayer to form an integrated digital solutions platform for businesses, government sectors, and underserved communities.

Oosthuysen described the launch as more than just a business move. “CYNK is more than just a company it’s a shared vision,” he told the audience of stakeholders, shareholders, and board members. In a symbolic gesture, Oosthuysen discarded a page representing the past before unveiling the new chapter for the organisation. “We’re building a platform that’s agile, scalable, and rooted in African innovation.”

The five founding entities will operate under the CYNK umbrella, each contributing unique capabilities: Net Nine Nine and Evotel bring robust ISP and fibre infrastructure experience; Magnolia Fibre Tree focuses on high-performance residential fibre networks; Internet for Education, an NPO, connects learners to digital tools; and Linklayer offers open-access, high-speed fibre to homes and businesses.

CYNK already boasts impressive reach, providing fibre access to over 410,000 homes, employing more than 600 people, working with 20 contractors, and connecting over 200 schools across South Africa. Oosthuysen announced an ambitious goal to pass two million homes in the next three years, underscoring CYNK’s mission to “sync the country.”

Key industry leaders were present at the launch, including Reflex CEO Paul Divall, Nokia MD Toni Pellegrino, and Huawei’s Integrated Systems Director Alex Yuan. Strategic partner Infinity was also acknowledged for its role in the initiative’s success. Oosthuysen further credited the many contractors and teams whose efforts laid the foundation for CYNK’s growth.

With an eye on regional expansion, Chief of Staff Nicholas Thipe confirmed that CYNK is already planning to enter neighbouring countries such as Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Eswatini. A strong emphasis will be placed on job creation, especially among youth, women, and previously disadvantaged communities.

CYNK’s founding investors include Infinite Partners, Myriad Capital, KLT Holdings, and Buffet Investments, all firms committed to long-term impact and innovation in the South African and African digital economy.

“Everyone here believes in making a difference,” said Oosthuysen. “We share, we care, we love — and we are passionate.” While some brand names remain confidential due to final legal processes, all five entities behind CYNK have a proven track record and are now synchronised into one dynamic organisation.

About CYNK
CYNK is a purpose-driven holding company that invests in businesses designed to add long-term value to society. By nurturing talent, potential, and innovation, CYNK aims to build a more connected, inclusive, and future-ready Africa.

LAZ SUES SPEAKER NELLY MUTTI OVER BILL 7 RULING

LAZ SUES SPEAKER OVER BILL 7 RULING

The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has sued Speaker of the National Assembly, Nelly Mutti, over her ruling on the deferment of the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 7 of 2025, describing it as unconstitutional.

Ms. Mutti had ruled that the Bill was properly before Parliament and that its deferment on Thursday, 26th June 2025, was in line with procedures outlined in the Standing Orders.

She further stated that if the sponsor of the Bill, Minister of Justice Princess Kasune decides to proceed with the next stages, Parliament would resume its consideration regardless of the Constitutional Court’s judgment in the case involving Munir Zulu and others.

According to the Speaker, neither the Constitutional Court nor any other external body can halt a legislative process once it is underway in Parliament.

In the referenced case, the Constitutional Court had directed the government to establish an independent body of experts to lead broader public consultations before amending the Constitution.

This followed a petition by former Lumezi MP Munir Zulu and Tonse Alliance National Youth Chairperson Celestine Mukandila, who argued that Bill No. 7 lacked sufficient citizen engagement and contravened Articles 8 and 9 of the Constitution.

The Court found that the state’s approach violated several constitutional provisions and ruled that any future amendments must be driven by a people-led process, facilitated by an independent body.

In its petition filed before the Constitutional Court, LAZ is seeking a declaration that the Speaker’s ruling is unconstitutional, null, and void ab initio, as it violates the supremacy of the Constitution and disregards the binding judgment of the Court.

LAZ also seeks an order suspending all legislative and related proceedings concerning Bill No. 7 until full compliance with constitutional requirements is achieved specifically, the mandatory publication of the Bill in the Government Gazette and the facilitation of meaningful and inclusive public consultations, as required under Article 79 and other relevant provisions.

Furthermore, LAZ wants an order reinforcing the obligation of all state institutions, including the Speaker and Parliament, to respect and adhere to judicial decisions of the Constitutional Court in upholding the rule of law and constitutional governance.

The association has cited Articles 1, 2, 5, 79, 128, and 267 of the Constitution in support of its petition.

Tonse Alliance to Challenge Lumezi by-election results

Tonse Alliance to Challenge Lumezi by-election results

THE Tonse Alliance will challenge the results of the recent Lumezi by-election in court, alleging manipulation by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).

Given Lubinda, the actin

g chairman of the Tonse Alliance, announced the decision today, accusing the ECZ of favouring the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND).

Speaking at a press briefing, Lubinda claimed the ECZ was “compromised” and cited irregularities in the distribution of ballot papers, which he asserted occurred without the presence of observers or party representatives.

The by-election, held last month on June 26 saw UPND candidate Lufeyo Ngoma elected as Member of Parliament for Lumezi Constituency with 11,521 votes.

His closest contender, backed by the alliance, Goodson Banda of the New Congress Party, garnered 6,821 votes.

Two days before the polls ECZ announced that one candidate’s name on the ballot paper was ommitted.

The following day, ECZ chief electoral officer Brown Kasaro announced the reprint and the ballot papers arrived in Lusaka aboard an Emirates flight at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

ECZ confirmed officials and representatives from various political parties including Citizens First, New Congress Party, and the United Party for National Development were present to witness both the arrival verification and dispatch and of the ballot papers to Lumezi.

The by-election was held to replace former lawmaker Munir Zulu, who was recently jailed.

However, Lubinda expressed his displeasure today.

“We are challenging the Lumezi results. And we shall make sure that we prove in court that the ECZ are criminals.

“The ECZ has become compromised under UPND. Stakeholders were shocked when ballot papers were redistributed in the absence of representatives and observers and the deliberate confusion on names were done to confuse voters,” he said.

Lubinda added that the same things which happened during the Lumezi by election is bound to happen in Mfuwe as signs of malpractice have already mounted up.

“Even in Mfuwe, we saw choppers carrying so many people. We are watching, the PF is watching, the Tonse alliance is watching. For the ECZ, you are not an arm of any political party, you have no immunity, what you do today shall follow you,” warned Lubinda.

OUR OPPOSITION POLITICAL PARTIES HAVE NO VISION AND POLICY – MARK SIMUUWE

OUR OPPOSITION POLITICAL PARTIES HAVE NO VISION AND POLICY – MARK SIMUUWE

July 14-2025

Lusaka -United Party for National Development (UPND) Media Director Mark Simuuwe has launched a scathing critique against Zambia’s opposition, stating they lack national vision, credible policies, and a realistic path to governance.

Speaking at a media briefing following recent by-elections, Simuuwe said the opposition’s failure to present a national agenda disqualifies them from leading a modern and progressive state like Zambia.

He highlighted that the UPND’s recent engagement with the Communist Party of China (CPC) has positioned the ruling party to learn from China’s developmental successes and apply similar models at home.

Simuwe explained that the meetings in China were not ceremonial but strategic, aligning with President Hakainde Hichilema’s broader vision of global economic integration and diplomatic expansion.

“Ninety percent of what we discussed with CPC officials had already been agreed upon at the presidential level between President Hichilema and his Chinese counterpart,” he said.

Among the immediate benefits from these bilateral engagements are plans to ease visa restrictions, introduce direct passenger flights between China and Zambia, and strengthen investment in transport and energy sectors.

Simuwe stressed that these milestones are not mere political optics but real outcomes driven by strategic intent and the President’s commitment to national transformation.

“We are also pushing what the President proposed to China direct flights, better transport links, and eased visa restrictions,” he said.

He noted that the CPC’s poverty reduction model offered valuable lessons for Zambia, particularly in its categorisation of vulnerable populations to ensure targeted and effective support.

Domestically, Simuwe reiterated that the UPND inherited an economy in shambles due to fiscal indiscipline under the former Patriotic Front (PF) administration, which left public services in a state of collapse.

He recalled how civil servants went unpaid, retirees languished for years without compensation, and strategic institutions like TAZARA and FRA were left without recapitalisation.

“Farming inputs were delayed, farmers remained unpaid for their maize for two years, and the mining sector lost over 25,000 jobs,” he said.

Simuwe stated that under President Hichilema, Zambia is now on a path to recovery marked by debt dismantling, timely payments to farmers, and consistent disbursement of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) projects.

He took aim at opposition parties for hiding behind new names like NACP, calling it a desperate attempt to rebrand failed PF ideologies and exploit funeral platforms for political mileage.

In closing, Simuwe described the UPND as the only party grounded in development and backed by the trust of the Zambian people, as reflected in the party’s by-election victories in Roan, Manguza, and Trauma.

In a demonstration of the rule of law, PF Secretary General and Tonse Alliance Chairman Hon. Raphael Nakachinda appeared before the Police at Police Headquarters in Lusaka, as summoned.

The police are not persecuting anyone, but rather fulfilling the demands of the law when some individuals have become in conflict with it. Nakachinda’s appearance before the police is a clear indication that he has some explanations to provide, and it’s a normal process for those who have interacted with the law

This development highlights the importance of accountability and the rule of law in our society. It’s a reminder that everyone is equal before the law, and no one is above it.

“Zambians Would Have Loved to See Late President Lungu Buried in Zambia”

“Zambians Would Have Loved to See Late President Lungu Buried in Zambia”

By Timmy

The recent court case in South Africa regarding the burial of late President Edgar Lungu has sparked emotions among Zambians. Many would have loved to see the former President laid to rest in his home country, as a sign of respect and dignity.

The Lungu family’s decision to bury him in South Africa has raised questions about the role of government in such matters. However, the Zambian government, led by President Hakainde Hichilema, has shown its commitment to repatriating the late President’s remains for burial in Zambia, in line with established protocols.

This move is seen as a respectful gesture towards the family and the Zambian people. It would have been a fitting tribute to the late President’s legacy to have him buried in his homeland, surrounded by his loved ones and the people he served.

The current President’s efforts to ensure the late President’s burial in Zambia demonstrate his commitment to upholding the dignity and respect due to his predecessor. Zambians appreciate President Hichilema’s efforts in this matter, and it is hoped that the issue will be resolved in a manner that respects the wishes of the family and the Zambian people.

“HH’s Commitment to Zambian Constitution Praised Amidst Cameroon’s Leadership Concerns”

“HH’s Commitment to Zambian Constitution Praised Amidst Cameroon’s Leadership Concerns”

By Timmy,

As the world watches Cameroon’s President Paul Biya’s bid for an eighth term, Zambians can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that their President, Hakainde Hichilema, is committed to respecting the country’s constitution.

Unlike Biya, who has been in power for 43 years, President Hichilema has shown a strong commitment to upholding the Zambian constitution, which clearly states that a president can only be elected to office two times.

This commitment is evident in President Hichilema’s recent introduction of Bill 7, a constitutional amendment that aims to benefit the interests of Zambians. This move demonstrates his willingness to amend the constitution only to suit the needs of the people, rather than personal gain or power.

Zambians can trust President Hichilema to lead with integrity and respect for the country’s laws. His leadership style is a stark contrast to leaders like Biya, who seem to prioritize power over the people’s needs.

“A Rebuttal to Fred Mmembe’s Misguided Article: Celebrating UPND’s Achievements”

“A Rebuttal to Fred Mmembe’s Misguided Article: Celebrating UPND’s Achievements”

By Timmy

Fred Mmembe’s recent article criticizing the UPND and President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership is a clear example of misinformation and selective amnesia. Despite the party’s numerous achievements, Fred chooses to focus on perceived shortcomings, ignoring the significant progress made in the last four years.

The UPND government has demonstrated its commitment to delivering to the people of Zambia, and the results are evident. From economic reforms to infrastructure development, the party has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of Zambians.

It’s surprising that Fred fails to acknowledge the UPND’s accomplishments, despite benefiting from the government’s achievements. One notable example is the freedom of the press, which has been respected under the UPND administration. Unlike the previous government, which shut down Fred’s newspaper, the current administration has allowed the media to operate freely.

The UPND’s achievements are a testament to President Hichilema’s leadership and vision. As we approach the 2026 elections, Zambians will have the opportunity to judge the party’s performance and decide whether to continue on the path of progress or revert to the past.

Ghana prepared to finance the production of Ukrainian drones

Ghana is reportedly interested in Ukraine’s advanced technologies as the West African country is ready to help finance the production of drones in Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made this known last week on the social media platform X, adding that he had a phone call with Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama.

“Ghana is also interested in our technologies, the production of various types of drones, and the experience Ukraine has gained during this war. Ghana is ready to finance our production, and we are ready to help our partners secure their borders,” Zelensky wrote.

After more than three years of all-out war with Russia, Ukraine has developed an expanding fleet of long-range drones that can strike targets deep inside Russia, according to a report by the Atlantic Council. “This has made it possible to carry out a wide range of attacks on Russian military bases, ammunition storage facilities, air defenses, and Putin’s economically vital but vulnerable oil and gas industry,” the report adds.

Ghana is prepared to help finance the country’s drones, following the West African country’s need to enhance its border security amid increasing regional instability and some cross-border activities deemed illegal.

Ghana and Ukraine also discussed cooperation in the agricultural sector and the creation of a food logistics hub in Ghana, Zelensky said.

“We discussed areas where we can already deepen our partnership, first and foremost in the agro-industrial sector and the creation of a food logistics hub in Ghana. We agreed to organize a ministerial-level meeting, and a Ukrainian delegation will travel to Ghana in the near future,” Zelensky said.

Ghana’s agricultural sector has often faced significant challenges, largely due to outdated farming techniques and limited access to modern technologies. This kind of partnership is a testament to the country’s readiness to reclaim its food sovereignty by combining traditional farming wisdom with modern innovations.

The Ukrainian leader also invited Ghana’s President John Mahama to visit Ukraine.

In March 2025, foreign ministers from Ukraine and Ghana, Andrii Sybiha and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, met in New Delhi to exchange viewpoints about how to expand bilateral cooperation and trade.

How Muammar Gaddafi was pushing for an African government, a common passport, and one currency backed by gold

Muammar Gaddafi, the former Libyan leader, was a vocal advocate for African unity and proposed ambitious plans for continental integration.

He called for a single African government, envisioning a “United States of Africa” to consolidate political and economic power.

His vision included a common African passport to facilitate free movement across the continent and a single currency backed by gold, often referred to as the “African dinar.”

This currency was intended to challenge Western financial dominance, particularly the U.S. dollar and the CFA franc, and promote economic independence for African nations. Gaddafi believed these measures would strengthen Africa’s sovereignty and global influence.

His proposals, while bold, faced significant skepticism and resistance. Many African leaders viewed the idea of a single government as impractical due to the continent’s diverse political systems, cultures, and economic disparities.

The African Union (AU), which Gaddafi heavily influenced during his tenure, adopted some of his ideas in principle, such as the African Continental Free Trade Area, but the more radical aspects, like a unified government or gold-backed currency, never materialized.

Critics argued his plans were partly driven by personal ambition to lead such a union, and his controversial leadership style alienated potential allies.

Gaddafi’s push for these ideas was also tied to his broader anti-imperialist stance. He saw a gold-backed currency as a way to counter Western control over global finance, particularly through institutions like the IMF.

However, his proposals were met with resistance from both African states and external powers, who saw his initiatives as destabilizing or self-serving.

His pan-Africanist vision, while visionary to some, was overshadowed by his authoritarian rule and the eventual collapse of his regime in 2011.

From being prevented to eat food to chanting African spirits, Here’s the reason Metal Masks were used during slavery

1

The metal mask played a significant role for the colonial masters during slavery and it is used for 3 main reasons.

1) To prevent the enslaved from eating fruits such as apples, pineapples, oranges, cashews, bananas, plantains and sugarcanes etc while harvesting them, yet they were made to work consistently in all the plantation farms.

2) To stop the enslaved from chanting our African spiritual songs. Not only that those our spiritual and war songs affected the slave masters, it also motivated some enslaved to rebel and fight back not minding l0sing their lives.

3) To stop enslaved form teaching our African local dialects (languages) to their children…whereby destr0yed our dialects and forced them to learn foreign languages.

Last but not the least, to starve enslaved as a punishment in the slave camps. The mask prevented them from eating or drinking.

Sometimes the slave masters would f0rced an apple (a whole) into the mouths of enslaved before they wore the metal mask on them with the padlocks so that they couldn’t talk.

Senegal bans UN and Netherlands from holding LGBTQ events in the country

0

Senegalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and African Integration have issued a statement prohibiting a specific LGBTQ-themed event in Dakar, organized by the United Nations and the Dutch embassy.

The event, which included a screening of the documentary MIWA (We Are Here) focusing on LBTQI women and trans men in West Africa, was canceled after the government warned of “repercussions” for organizers and participants, citing opposition to the “promotion of the LGBTQI phenomenon.”

The ministry emphasized that activities by diplomatic missions, international organizations, and NGOs must comply with Senegal’s laws and cultural values, which include criminalizing same-sex relations under Article 319 of the penal code, with penalties of up to five years in prison for “acts against nature” with someone of the same sex.

The controversy was sparked by MP Guy Marius Sagna, who denounced the event as an attempt to impose foreign values and called for its immediate prohibition.

His alert, amplified by influential figures like Imam Ahmadou Makhtar Kanté, led to significant public and social media backlash, prompting the government’s swift response.

While a 2022 proposal to strengthen anti-LGBTQ laws was rejected by lawmakers as redundant, Senegal’s existing legal framework and societal attitudes remain hostile to LGBTQ rights, with the government reserving the right to take “appropriate measures” against similar events.

This incident reflects broader regional trends in West Africa, where conservative values and anti-gay laws prevail in many countries.

How France conducted 17 nuclear tests in Algeria which resulted to the death of 42,000 Algerians after they were exposed to the nuclear bomb

France conducted 17 nuclear tests in Algeria’s Sahara Desert between 1960 and 1966, at Reggane and In Ekker, including four atmospheric and 13 underground tests.

The first test, “Gerboise Bleue,” on February 13, 1960, had a yield of 60–70 kilotons, roughly four times the strength of the Hiroshima bomb.

These tests caused significant radioactive fallout, impacting local populations, including Tuareg nomads, farmers, and villagers, as well as French military personnel.

Estimates of the death toll and health impacts vary widely and are contested. Algerian sources, such as Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum in 2021, claim the tests caused around 42,000 deaths and injured thousands due to radiation-related illnesses, including cancers, birth defects, and miscarriages.

However, the French Ministry of Defense estimates 27,000 Algerians were affected, while Algerian nuclear physicist Abdul Kadhim al-Aboudi suggests up to 60,000 people in the region were impacted.

These figures are not independently verified, and precise death tolls remain uncertain due to limited documentation and restricted access to French archives.

The tests, particularly the Béryl incident in 1962, where an underground explosion was not fully contained, released radioactive material, exposing soldiers and local communities to high radiation levels.

Radioactive waste buried in the desert, often uncovered by winds, has continued to contaminate the environment, with effects persisting across generations.

Reports indicate ongoing health issues, including elevated cancer rates, blindness, and congenital disabilities in the region.

France’s 2010 Morin law aimed to compensate victims, but only one Algerian, a soldier stationed at a test site, has received compensation out of 50 claims, with no residents of the affected desert regions compensated.

Algeria continues to demand transparency, including maps of buried radioactive waste, and reparations, which France claims to have partially provided. The lack of accountability and cleanup remains a point of tension in France-Algeria relations, exacerbated by the use of contaminated sites as detention camps in the 1990s.

Cameroon’s 92-year-old president, Paul Biya, the world’s oldest sitting head of state, has announced he will run for an eighth term

Cameroon’s President Paul Biya, the world’s oldest sitting head of state at 92, has announced his candidacy for an eighth term in office, extending his 43-year rule.

Biya, who has led the Central African nation since 1982, stated he is responding to “insistent” calls from supporters to continue his leadership.

The announcement has sparked controversy, with critics raising concerns about Biya’s health, given his age and infrequent public appearances, as well as his ability to effectively govern.

Opponents also question the legacy of his long tenure, pointing to ongoing challenges such as economic stagnation, corruption allegations, and the unresolved Anglophone crisis in Cameroon’s western regions.

Biya’s decision sets the stage for a contentious election, with opposition groups and civil society calling for political reforms and greater transparency.

Uganda ranked second largest producer of bananas in the world, first on the list will shock you

Uganda has been ranked as the second-largest producer of bananas globally, following India.

The country produces around 10-12 million metric tons of bananas annually, with varieties like Matoke (cooking bananas) being a staple food and cultural cornerstone.

India leads with over 30 million metric tons, driven by its vast agricultural sector. Uganda’s banana production thrives due to its favorable climate, fertile soils, and smallholder farming, though it faces challenges like pests, diseases, and market acces.

Uganda’s banana production is a cornerstone of its economy and food security, with the country producing around 10-12 million metric tons annually.

This figure guaranteed it to become the second-largest banana producer globally with only India producing more.

Bananas, particularly the cooking variety known as Matoke, are a staple food for millions of Ugandans and are deeply embedded in the country’s culture and cuisine.

Sweet varieties like Cavendish, consumed fresh are also used for brewing traditional banana beer in the country.

Son of ‘El Chapo’ promises to cooperate with U.S. Government against his family for lighter prison sentence

0

In a significant development in the fight against drug trafficking, one of El Chapo’s sons has agreed to cooperate with the U.S. government.

Ovidio Guzmán López, son of notorious Sinaloa Cartel leader Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, has agreed to cooperate with the U.S. government in exchange for a lighter prison sentence.

As part of the agreement, Guzmán López admitted to playing a key role in overseeing the production and smuggling of drugs into the United States, contributing to a crisis responsible for tens of thousands of deaths annually.

His cooperation is expected to provide critical insights into the operations of the Sinaloa Cartel, one of the world’s most powerful drug trafficking organizations.

Further details of the plea deal and Guzmán López’s cooperation remain undisclosed as the case progresses.

Ovidio is the son of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, and his second wife, Griselda López Pérez. He was arrested in January 2023 in Culiacán and extradited to the United States in September 2023 to face charges related to drug trafficking, money laundering, and illegal weapons possession

‘To be free, you must be feared’ – President Macron cites return of nuclear risks and hybrid wars

0

French President Emmanuel Macron has made a statement claiming, “To be free, you must be feared,” which reflects his call for enhanced military readiness and strategic autonomy in response to growing global threats, particularly from Russia.

In a speech ahead of Bastille Day, Macron announced a €6.5 billion ($7.6 billion) increase in military spending over the next two years, aiming to double France’s defense budget to €64 billion by 2027.

He cited the return of nuclear risks, hybrid warfare, and major conflicts as the greatest threats to freedom since World War II, emphasizing the need for France and Europe to bolster their defenses amid uncertainties over U.S. support.

Macron has also proposed extending France’s nuclear deterrent to European allies, a response to Russian aggression and potential U.S. disengagement under President Donald Trump, who paused military aid to Ukraine.

This proposal, discussed in a March 2025 address, aims to strengthen European security through France’s 290 nuclear warheads, though it has sparked debate over sovereignty and strategic feasibility.

Critics, like Marine Le Pen, argue that sharing nuclear deterrence undermines France’s autonomy.

Hybrid threats, including Russian cyberattacks, election interference, and sabotage, were highlighted as part of a broader “global conflict” involving actors like North Korea and Iran.

Macron urged national unity to counter these challenges, warning that Russia’s actions threaten not just Ukraine but all of Europe.

He also stressed the need for Europe to reduce reliance on the U.S., advocating for a stronger, more independent defense framework.

HIGH COURT UPHOLDS SENTENCE, SENDS KAMBWILI TO PRISON FOR HAT£ SPEECH

HIGH COURT UPHOLDS SENTENCE, SENDS KAMBWILI TO PRISON FOR HAT£ SPEECH

The High Court sitting in Kasama has upheld the conviction of opposition politician Chishimba Kambwili for hat£ speech, sentencing him to five months imprisonment with hard labor, effective immediately.

This ruling follows the dismissal of Kambwili’s appeal against an earlier judgment by the Kasama Magistrate Court, which found him guilty of using tríbal and regional slúrs targeting the people of Southern Province.

The original conviction was delivered by Senior Resident Magistrate Samson Mumba, who underscored the importance of a custodial sentence to deter hate speech and foster national unity.

Despite submissions from Kambwili’s legal team citing his status as a first-time offender, underlying health conditions, and past ministerial service, the High Court upheld the seriousness of the offense and its broader implications.

Kambwili is expected to serve his sentence at Milima Correctional Facility in Kasama.

The case stems from his remarks on Radio Mano in Kasama during the 2021 General Elections campaigns.

Lungu family has asked  Court  not to allow the Zambian Govt to remove South Africa’s Minister from the burial court case

THE Lungu family has asked the High Court in South Africa not to allow the Zambian Government to remove South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Ramola from the burial court case..

Zambia’s Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha added Mr Ramola as the nineth respondent in a case in which he has sued the Lungu family.

In this lawsuit, Mr Kabesha has applied that late former President Edgar Lungu’s remains be repatriated back to Zambia for burial in line with established protocols.

Those sued as respondents in this case are former First Lady Esther Lungu, six of her of family members, family spokesperson Makebi Zulu, including Two Mountains, the mortuary keeping the remains of Mr Lungu who died on June 5, while in South Africa.

However, Mr Kabesha later added Mr Ramola as nineth respondent in the matter, but later amended the court documents and applied that the minister be removed from the case.

But the Lungu family has asked the court not to allow the removal of Mr Ramola to the case.

Ms Lungu and others have argued that Mr Ramola should be maintained so that he gives the South African Government’s stance on who should be in charge of a dead person’s body.

She submits that Mr Ramola is a necessary and material party to the proceedings.

“The relief sought by the Applicant, which implicates foreign relations, international protocol and procedure is of paramount importance to the Government of South Africa.

“It is imperative that the court be favoured with the Government of South Africa’s stance on the matter,” Ms Lungu submits.

She adds that the manner in which Mr Kabesha wants to have Mr Ramola removed from the case is wrong.

“The Applicant (Mr Kabesha) has attempted to irregularly remove this party from the application.

“The correct process was not followed, and the Ninth Respondent remains a party to these proceedings. If not, the application is fatally defective,” the document reads.

And on the issue of jurisdiction, Ms Lungu submits that the South African law should apply and guide who takes control of a dead person’s body in their country.

She said Mr Kabesha has failed to show any clear right as to whether the Zambian Government has, by law, control over the remains of her husband.

“There can be no issue regarding which law to apply, the Constitution is clear on this point.

“The South African law applies as the RSA retains territorial jurisdiction over all matter occurring within its borders, including the custody and disposition of human remains.

“In terms thereof the next of kin of a deceased person retains the right to decide where to bury the remains of a deceased,” the widow submits.

She adds that the the interest and wishes of the Applicant do not override the legal rights of the next of kin in Republic of South Africa(RSA).

“Absent of any treaty or specific legal agreement between RSA and the Republic of Zambia on this matter, diplomatic requests remain non-binding.

“I am also advised that reference to the via media approach being applicable in the current matter is misguided and ill-informed. The fact is that there is no conflict of law,” Ms Lungu submits.

“There is no law in Zambia that states that the wishes of the next of kin can be ignored and overruled by the Applicant. Secondly, even if there was such a rule, there are no connecting factors present that would support such an interpretation,” she says.

Ms Lungu adds that the late President Lungu, was reluctant to returning to Zambia, and the human rights treasured in the Constitution takes precedence over any approach that is not Constitutional.

” The Constitution, specifically the Bill of Rights, is supreme, and all actions by the state and its organs must be consistent with its provisions. Any attempt to justify actions that violate and invalid. Further legal argument shall be made on this point.

DE-REGISTER PF THEY ARE THREAT TO NATIONAL UNITY CHIEF CHIKAZA URGES UPND

CHIEF Chikaza Munyama of Itezhi Itezhi has called on the Registrar of Societies to deregister the Patriotic Front (PF), describing the former ruling party as a threat to national security and unity.

In an interview, Chief Chikaza, of the Ila-speaking people of Southern Province, said PF leaders have shown bitterness and an unwillingness to accept their defeat in the 2021 general election.

“We have seen more hate from within the PF leaders since 2021 and it seems they are refusing to accept that Hakainde Hichilema, whom they said would never rule Zambia, was actually the Head of State.”

RESPONSE TO RPP NOTICE: ANOTHER UPND-ENGINEERED DISTRACTION

By Thandiwe Ketiš Ngoma

Once again, we are witnessing the UPND government hiding behind proxies and surrogates to carry out its vindictive and petty politics, this time under the veil of professionalism and legal process. The so-called complaint by the Republican Progressive Party (RPP) against Counsel Makebi Zulu is nothing but a cowardly attempt to punish truth, loyalty, and integrity.

Let us be very clear: Makebi Zulu is not just a legal practitioner. He is a family spokesperson who has been speaking on behalf of the Lungu family during one of the most painful and sensitive moments in their lives—the funeral of a husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and brother, in the name of Edgar Chagwa Lungu. That responsibility does not, in any way, compromise his standing as a legal professional. In fact, it underscores his commitment to justice, dignity, and constitutional rights, even in the face of relentless state intimidation.

The question must be asked: Why is the UPND government so uncomfortable with the voice of Makebi Zulu?

Because he speaks the truth.
Because he defends the legacy of a man they have persecuted both in life and in death.

Because he exposes their obsession with control, even over a man’s burial.

This latest move to report him to LAZ is nothing more than a politically motivated witch-hunt, engineered to silence anyone who dares to challenge their manipulative narrative. The RPP, a barely visible political outfit, has simply become another pawn in Hakainde Hichilema’s game of national gaslighting.

Make no mistake—this is not about ethics. It is about vengeance.
It is about distraction.
It is about using institutions to harass dissenters.

Let HH stay away from this funeral.
Let the family mourn in peace.
Let the legal profession not be weaponized for political revenge.

If anything falls below professional standards, it is this continued abuse of regulatory bodies to target individuals for simply speaking on behalf of a grieving family.

We say to the UPND: Enough is enough. Stop using surrogates. Stop hiding behind so-called complaints and processes. The Zambian people see through it, and we will not be silent.

I  have no intentions of coming back to active politics- Elias Chipimo Jr I

**STATEMENT BY ELIAS C. CHIPIMO FOLLOWING RECENT SOCIAL MEDIA DISCUSSION ABOUT A RETURN TO ACTIVE POLITICS**

The statement circulating on social media claiming that I have returned to active politics and will soon be launching a new political party, is false. It is not yet clear who originated the statement, although I have some ideas as to the possible motives for doing so.

Careful observers and those close to me will know that my focus over the past 6 years since I left the political arena, has been to apply my God-given talents towards building a better Zambia by raising the levels of excellence in private sector delivery, particularly at the entrepreneurial level.

While I reserve my right to report and take action against the originators of this story for the damage it has already caused me, I currently remain steadfastly committed to the work I embarked on when I left active politics to address the needs of underserved communities – work that is focused on delivering economic ownership and facilitating access to generational wealth at scale for all Zambians.

It is unfortunate that the false statement began circulating on the day my colleagues and I were celebrating the 30th anniversary of Corpus Legal Practitioners, a firm I founded in 1995 that has set a high bar for excellence and innovation in legal service delivery and, hopefully, will continue to serve as a testament to the ideals I hold dear and the belief I have in what we can achieve when we focus on developing and applying our strengths in the service of others.

Kazadi appears before Livingstone High Court today

Kazadi appears before Livingstone High Court today
DETAINED filmmaker David Kazadi is appearing before the Livingstone High Court under police escort, following a Writ of Habeas Corpus that forced police bosses to produce him or risk jail time for contempt.

His appearance follows a court order issued last week, demanding that Livingstone Central Police explain why Kazadi has been held without charge, after he was rearrested while filming in the tourist capital.

The reason for his recapture was not clear but it is alleged that it is related to the film maker’s first apprehension over charges of the viral sextape that featured socialite and model Mwaka Halwindi.

Kazadi, who said he has been left traumatised by the unexplained detention, is now seeking justice through his Legal Aid lawyers.

STATEMENT ON THE MUMFUMBWE GOLD RUSH: A CALL FOR FORMALIZATION AND COOPERATION

STATEMENT ON THE MUMFUMBWE GOLD RUSH: A CALL FOR FORMALIZATION AND COOPERATION

July 14, 2025

As representatives of the small-scale mining industry and the general public involved in mining, we would like to express our support for the government’s stance on the Mumfumbwe gold rush.

The government’s decision to temporarily halt illegal mining activities in the area was a necessary measure to ensure the safety of the miners and prevent further accidents.

We acknowledge that the artisanal small-scale miners (ASMs) in the area were operating illegally and selling their gold to unauthorized buyers. We believe that formalizing their operations through the formation of cooperatives and acquisition of ASM licenses is a crucial step towards sustainable and responsible mining practices.

The government’s provision of an aggregator, Zambia Gold Company, under ZCCM-IH, to buy gold from the ASM sector is a positive development. The model has already shown success in Mumbwa and potentially in Rufunsa, and the construction of a buying center in Mumbwa is a step in the right direction.

We strongly emphasize that the issuance of licenses should prioritize local Zambians, particularly the ASMs discovering these minerals, and those with the capacity to partner with local people in the extraction of these minerals. We believe that this approach will ensure that the benefits of mining are retained by Zambians and contribute to the local economy.

We agree that empowering local Zambians through formalization and guidance on mining methods is essential, rather than relying on foreign investors. The Ministry of Mines’ initiative to create an ASM operating manual book and the upcoming small-scale mining conference in August are commendable efforts to promote cooperation and development in the sector.

We encourage all interested parties to form cooperatives, engage with the Ministry of Mines, and apply for licenses to start mining legally. By working together, we can ensure that the benefits of mining are shared equitably among stakeholders, and that the industry operates in a safe, responsible, and sustainable manner.

CHIRAMBO DISAPOINTED WITH  GOVERNMENT OVER ALLEGED YOUTH CRISIS AND MUFUMBWE SHOOTINGS

CHIRAMBO DISAPOINTED WITH  GOVERNMENT OVER ALLEGED YOUTH CRISIS AND MUFUMBWE SHOOTINGS.

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

Socialist Party Copperbelt Provincial Chairperson Dr. Brian Chirambo has strongly criticized the government’s handling of the ongoing crisis affecting Zambia’s youth, citing widespread poverty and limited opportunities.

Dr. Chirambo said the government has failed to provide essential services such as employment, healthcare, and basic needs, pushing many young people into desperate situations.

He pointed to the recent fatalitie
s involving youths who were shot during a chaotic scene in Mufumbwe District, North Western Province, which has become the latest hotspot for illegal gold mining.

Dr. Chirambo stressed that the hardships facing the youth reflect a deeper issue that the government is disconnected from the everyday struggles of ordinary Zambians.

Hichilema orders immediate crackdown on illegal mining amid rising fatalities and security threats

President Hichilema orders immediate crackdown on illegal mining amid rising fatalities and security threats!

President Hakainde Hichilema has directed the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development and law enforcement agencies to take decisive and immediate action against illegal mining, following a surge in unsafe practices and deadly confrontations between authorities and illegal miners.

The President expressed deep concern over the increasing incidents of illegal and unregulated mining, which have resulted in loss of life and posed serious risks to national security and economic stability, often involving illegal immigrants.

Mr Hichilema has stressed that all mining activities must be conducted legally, safely and in an organised manner, with strict adherence to the law and established safety standards.

He noted that apart from protecting lives, organised mining is key to ensuring that the country’s mineral resources generate maximum benefit for Zambians through taxation, which increases revenue to the national Treasury.

“We cannot allow lawlessness and chaos to persist in such a strategic and, indeed, any other sector. Immediate and firm action is required to stop illegal mining, save lives and safeguard our resources,” he said.

NUPPEZ BLAMES RISING TEACHER DEBT ON HIGH COST OF LIVING, NOT FINANCIAL ILLITERACY

NUPPEZ BLAMES RISING TEACHER DEBT ON HIGH COST OF LIVING, NOT FINANCIAL ILLITERACY.

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

The National Union of Private and Public Educators of Zambia (NUPPEZ) has attributed the increasing indebtedness among teachers to the escalating cost of living and not to illiteracy among civil servants.

In an interview with Sun FM TV News, NUPPEZ Executive President Victor Muyumba said the high cost of living continues to erode the take-home pay of civil servants, leading many into debt.

Mr. Muyumba has described as erroneous the move by Members of Parliament to raise labour-related debt swap issues, stating that such matters fall under the jurisdiction of labour unions through the process of collective bargaining.

Mr. Muyumba has, however, expressed concern over parliamentary debates on the subject, stating that such actions threaten the integrity of social dialogue between the unions and the government.

He has since called for calm among civil servants following the rejection of the motion to reintroduce the debt swap initiative for civil servants.

I AM APPEALING TO PRESIDENT HICHILEMA TO PUSH ALL AMBASSADORS TO WORK HARDER  – MUKUKA

ZAMBIA’S Youth advocate Mukuka Kampamba popular as Tiza Mukuka wants President Hichilema to push ambassadors for them to do extra work than assigned to.

Tiza Mukuka wrote;
Zambia has over 34 embassies and high commissioners worldwide, yet none of them have connected Zambians to powerful business opportunities.

High commissioners should not only help stranded citizens but also seek opportunities for Zambians back home.

If all 34 ambassadors approached investors in Zambia’s energy sector, at least 10 would have set up electricity companies by now from 2021.

Zambia needs 5 privately owned companies to supply uninterrupted electricity, increasing competition will reduce cost and end load shedding permanently. .

If I Tiza Mukuka youth advocate was Zambia’s ambassador to the USA, I’d convince all billionaires such as Jeff Bezos, Warren Buffet, Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk to visit Zambia and invest in our energy sector and also connect Zambian entrepreneurs such as Brian Chanda Innovation, Mwizukanji and Magnate to these billionaires.

This should be the top priority mission for all Zambian ambassadors worldwide instead of touring those cities.

Lusaka | July 13, 2025

Chief Justice Dr. Mumba Malila has called on lawyers across the country to uphold the highest standards of ethics, professionalism, and integrity in delivering legal services, describing their role as central to Zambia’s justice system and democratic growth.

Speaking during the 30th anniversary celebration of Corpus Legal Practitioners in Lusaka on Friday evening, Dr. Malila emphasized that the legal profession must not lose sight of its core mission — to serve the people with diligence, fairness, and unwavering respect for the rule of law.

“Legal practitioners must remain steadfast in their commitment to integrity, professionalism, and top-notch client care,” he said. “These are not optional values; they define who we are as officers of the court.”

The Chief Justice challenged members of the legal fraternity to become champions of justice and equality, noting that their actions and decisions shape public trust in the legal system.

“The future of the vocation of advocacy rests in your hands,” Dr. Malila stated. “What you choose to stand for today will determine the direction of legal practice in Zambia for decades to come.”

He praised Corpus Legal Practitioners for their enduring contribution to the legal landscape over the past three decades, calling them a benchmark of resilience and excellence in the profession.

The event brought together legal minds, clients, and dignitaries to celebrate the legacy and continued growth of one of Zambia’s leading law firms, while reflecting on the broader role of the legal community in advancing national development and social justice.

‘inexcusable’ failures led to Trump’s assassination attempt- US senate

0

A congressional investigation into the assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump at a campaign rally a year ago has sharply criticised the Secret Service for a series of “inexcusable” security failures and called for stronger disciplinary measures.

The July 13, 2024 incident occurred in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a gunman opened fire at a campaign event, grazing Trump’s ear. One spectator was killed, and two others were injured before the attacker, 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, was shot dead by a government sniper.

“What happened was inexcusable and the consequences imposed for the failures so far do not reflect the severity of the situation,” stated a report released Sunday by the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

While the report did not offer new details about Crooks’ motives, which remain unclear, it condemned the Secret Service for “a cascade of preventable failures that nearly cost President Trump his life.”

“The United States Secret Service failed to act on credible intelligence, failed to coordinate with local law enforcement,” said Republican Senator Rand Paul, who chairs the committee. “Despite those failures, no one has been fired.”

“It was a complete breakdown of security at every level—fueled by bureaucratic indifference, a lack of clear protocols, and a shocking refusal to act on direct threats. We must hold individuals accountable and ensure reforms are fully implemented so this never happens again.”

The Secret Service has acknowledged communication gaps, technical issues, and human errors. In response, the agency said it has initiated reforms, including enhanced coordination among law enforcement agencies and the creation of a specialised division focused on aerial surveillance.

Six unnamed staff members have received disciplinary action ranging from 10 to 42 days of unpaid suspension. All have been reassigned to restricted or non-operational roles.

Reflecting on the attempt on his life in an interview aired this week, Trump told his daughter-in-law Lara Trump on Fox News’ “My View with Lara Trump” that “mistakes were made” but expressed satisfaction with the investigation’s handling.

“The sniper was able to get him from a long distance with one shot. If he didn’t do that, you would have had an even worse situation,” Trump said.

Describing the harrowing moments, he added, “It was unforgettable. I didn’t know exactly what was going on. I got whacked. There’s no question about that. And fortunately, I got down quickly. People were screaming.”
