Trump to hold face to face talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping  to find solution to ongoing trade war

China and the United States are currently trying to find a way to solve issues surrounding their escalated war.

Recent reports indicate President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will soon hold trade talks

Trump has repeatedly expressed a desire for direct, one-on-one talks with Xi to address escalating trade tensions.

The meeting will be particularly over tariffs, which have reached 145% on Chinese imports to the U.S. and 125% on U.S. goods to China until their recent agreement of reducing the tarrifs temporarily.

The United States president has claimed multiple times that China’s Xi called him to discuss trade, asserting that negotiations were active and deals could be finalized within weeks.

However, Chinese officials, including Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun and Commerce Ministry spokesperson He Yadong, have consistently denied any such talks or calls.

The Chinese official stated that no negotiations are underway and emphasizing that dialogue must be based on mutual respect and equality.

According to a new BRICS publication, the stage is getting set for the two powerful leaders to meet and find a positive agreement.

Talks between Ivory Coast and US to establish a drone base successful as US aims to counter Russia and China’s growing influence in Africa

The United States is in advanced discussions with Ivory Coast to establish a drone base in the country.

Reports says they main intention is primarily to address rising security threats in West Africa, particularly from jihadist groups in the Sahel region.

The United States also aimed to counter the recent growing influence of Russia and China in the continent.

These talks follow the U.S. withdrawal from Niger in March 2024, prompted by a coup that disrupted its military presence there.

The proposed drone facility is not a traditional military base but a technological platform for advanced drone operations.

If they succeed with their intention, they will be focusing on aerial surveillance and intelligence sharing.

Initial proposals suggested a site near Korhogo in northern part of Ivory Coast, but the Ivorian government rejected this location, instead approving the use of part of an existing air force base in Bouake.

Ukraine – Russia war not ending soon because Putin refused a ceasefire negotiation despite pressure from US and Europe- Zelensky

It’s looking like we may not be witnessing peace between Russia and Ukraine anytime soon.

This is because of the recent revelation of Ukrainian president, Zelensky who continues to accuse Russia of not making any attempt to end the war.

The Ukrainian president provided an update on the recent attack launched by Russia in summy region of Ukraine.

Zelensky revealed doctors are currently providing every medical assistance needed for the victims to get back into good conditions.

Hours ago, he accused Russia of deliberately hurting ordinary citizens on the streets and further claim there is no single day that there’s no k!ll!ng incident in Ukraine by Russia.

“Right now in Sumy region, doctors are providing all necessary assistance to those wounded by a Russian strike. The Russians struck right on the street, hitting ordinary residential buildings. Sleazebags.” He said

The Ukrainian president insists on his earlier accusations that Russia is responsible for the ongoing war.

According to him, President Putin isn’t interested in negotiating any ceasefire deal to bring the war to an end despite efforts by the US, Europe and other global allies.

“There have been virtually no days without killings during this whole time, while the United States, Europe, and other global actors have been urging Russia to agree to a ceasefire and negotiations to end the war.

But Russia remains fully committed to war, and they prove it with both their strikes and their statements. All of this is the argument for new, tougher sanctions against Russia. I’m grateful to all Americans and Europeans who support this approach of pressuring Russia into peace, it’s extremely important. Russia must feel what war truly means.” He added

Many believes that Trump’s statement reflects his perception of Xi Jinping as a formidable negotiator unlike other world leaders he had an easy path with.

The recent issues surrounding Taiwan is one that is adding fuel to an already existing fire between the two countries.

This aligns with both nations’ efforts to counter Western sanctions and influence, potentially escalating tensions with the U.S. and South Korea.

North Korea has been a significant supporter of Russia and recent revelations claim a huge supply to back them in their ongoing war with Ukraine.

US has warned UK and France not to recognize a Palestinian state ahead of upcoming conference

The United States has sent some strong caution to the United Kingdom and France against recognizing a Palestinian state.

The US is particularly sending the caution in the context of a UN conference scheduled for June 17-20, 2025.

There will be a huge conference in New York, which will be co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia to discuss the two-state solution.

According to reports, the U.S. views such recognition as potentially undermining direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.

The US argued that that a Palestinian state should emerge through bilateral talks rather than unilateral actions.

France has been actively pushing for European countries, including the UK, to recognize Palestinian statehood at the upcoming conference.

French President Emmanuel Macron said it as a step toward peace and a potential trigger for reciprocal recognition of Israel by some Middle Eastern states.

The UK, while engaged in discussions with France and Saudi Arabia, is however treading cautiously not to offend Israel in the process.

Botswana Govt announce a new policy banning export of unprocessed minerals

Botswana President, Duma Gideon Boko has joined other African countries in taking a huge step to takeover their natural resources.

The Botswana Government has passed a new bill that prevents any mineral exported out of the country unprocessed.

The president is particularly keen on the exportation of unprocessed diamond which the country have been doing for years now.

“No diamond will leave this country raw, all will be cut and polished here. No copper concentrate will be exported without local value addition,” he said.

This comes at the backdrop of emerging campaign sweeping across the entire African continent.

Prior to this date, countries across the continent export minerals at raw value, earning smaller percentages in returns.

However, some countries have started taking steps to nationalize their resources to benefit their citizens.

Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger have already made bold statements and policies in a bid to takeover their natural resources.

DR Congo and Liberia to serve as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council

The United Nations General Assembly has elected the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Liberia,, to serve as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for two-year terms starting January 2026.

The two countries were chosen to serve as non-permanent members alongside Bahrain, Colombia, and Latvia.

This marks the DRC’s third time and Liberia’s second on the prestigious council, a body tasked with maintaining international peace and security.

Delegates from the DRC emphasized their focus on fostering peace and stability, particularly in conflict-affected regions, while also tackling pressing global issues like inequality and climate change.

Liberia echoed these priorities, with its representatives highlighting their nation’s journey toward reconciliation and sustainable development as inspiration for their tenure.

non-permanent member of the UN Security Council means a country is elected to serve a two-year term on the council, contributing to decisions on international peace and security.

Unlike the five permanent members (China, France, Russia, UK, US), who have veto power and indefinite seats, non-permanent members—ten in total—rotate, with five elected annually by the UN General Assembly.

These members participate in discussions, vote on resolutions, and help address global conflicts, crises, and issues like sanctions or peacekeeping missions. However, they lack veto power, so their influence depends on diplomacy and coalition-building.

Cassie’s Friend Accuses Diddy Of Dangling Her Over 17th Floor Balcony

Fashion designer Bryana “Bana” Bongolan took the stand in Diddy’s federal trial today, accusing him of leaving her with severe back pain.

Diddy’s federal trial continues, and today fashion designer Bryana “Bana” Bongolan took the stand. She’s currently suing the mogul for $10 million. Bongolan alleges that back in 2016, Diddy stormed into Cassie’s condo, where she was staying with her ex at the time. Allegedly, he grabbed her and dangled her over the 17th floor balcony, shouting “You know what the f*ck you did!”

Eventually, Bangolan alleges that Cassie ran outside, prompting Diddy to throw her into the balcony furniture. Allegedly, she was left with a large bruise on her leg as well as back and neck pain.

“I called one of my managers and they said, if you’re scared of anything else, just go to a chiropractor,” she alleged, per Inner City Press. When asked whether or not she told the chiropractor who was responsible for her injuries, she said no.

“They asked but I just paid and took the neck brace,” she added.

This isn’t all Bongolan had to say on the stand, however. She also alleged that her and Cassie would frequently take drugs and go shopping together. She even alleged that she consistently purchased OxyContin for Cassie, and was always paid back for it. Allegedly, she purchased cocaine for Diddy on one occasion.

She recalled one instance in 2016 when her and Cassie were allegedly out shopping and the singer received a text from the Bad Boy founder. Allegedly, he asked her where the two of them were. He then allegedly proceeded to send a list of everywhere they’d been that day.

Various other individuals from Diddy’s past have taken the stand so far, including his former assistants, an exotic dancer, Dawn Richard, Kid Cudi, and more. Of course, Cassie also testified, recalling the years of alleged abuse she endured at the hands of her then-partner.

Namibian businessman fatally mauled by lion while using the toilet on safari trip

Popular Namibian businessman, philanthropist, and nature enthusiast Bernd Kebbel was tragically killed by a lioness in the Kunene Region of northwest Namibia on the morning of Friday, May 30. He was 59 years old.

His death has shocked both the business and environmental communities. The incident occurred while Kebbel was on a safari excursion, camping with his wife and a group of friends near the Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp in the Sesfontein area, according to the Namibian. The group had set up camp along the Hoanib River, a remote and rugged area known for its desert-adapted wildlife, including a rare population of desert lions.

Ndeshipanda Hamunyela, spokesperson for Namibia’s Ministry of Environment Forestry and Tourism, told Informante “The victim had stepped out of his tent to use the toilet on Friday morning, May 30, when he was attacked by the lioness.”

Early reports also suggest that he may have been descending from the rooftop of his tent when the attack occurred.

Other campers present at the scene managed to scare off the lioness, but by then, Kebbel had already succumbed to his injuries, Hamunyela said.

Namibian police spokesperson Inspector Immanuel Iiduwa confirmed that a case of human-wildlife conflict had been opened and that police were attending the scene.

“A full report will be submitted in due course,” added another spokesperson, Elifas Kuwinga.

The Ministry of Environment and Tourism later confirmed that the lioness involved in the attack was euthanized on June 1, after authorities determined that she posed a continued threat to the local community and tourists.

Kebbel, a former owner of the Offroad Centre (also referred to as the Outdoor Centre), was widely recognized in the country’s conservation and off-roading circles. He was known for selling safari vehicle accessories and had long supported wildlife conservation initiatives.

ported by CBS. In 2023, there were roughly 60 adult lions and more than a dozen cubs. Long-term droughts, however, have decreased their populations recently by reducing the amount of prey available and increasing human-wildlife conflict.

In Namibia, there is increasing conflict between rural livelihoods and conservation. To fight starvation in communities hit by drought, the government approved the culling of hundreds of animals, including elephants, in August 2023.

Meanwhile, authorities continue to investigate the tragic incident involving Kebbel.

This is at least the second deadly lion assault in Africa in recent weeks. In April, a 14-year-old girl was killed by a lion in Nairobi National Park in Kenya, according to a CNN report.

The animal entered a residential compound near Nairobi National Park by climbing over an improvised fence, according to KWS Senior Corporate Communications Manager Paul Udoto.

The lioness then broke into a house and attacked the girl, who was there with another teenager. “There is no evidence of provocation from the victims,” Udoto informed reporters.

Jackie Chan reveals he didn’t understand anything Chris Tucker said during first ‘Rush Hour’ film

Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker are fondly remembered for their formidable partnership as law enforcement agents in the Rush Hour film series. But it appears Chan, 71, initially had communication issues with Tucker, 53, while they were on set for the first Rush Hour film.

During a Tuesday appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show with his Karate Kid: Legends co-stars Ralph Macchio and Ben Wang, Chan touched on those dialogue issues when the host asked him if he familiarized himself with fast-paced English while shooting Rush Hour, PEOPLE reported.

“The whole movie, I don’t know what Chris Tucker’s saying,” Chan revealed. “Not a clue.”

He also stated that his dialogue in “every shot” was not the same because he faced comprehension issues. “My dialogue coach sits right behind the camera,” he stated. “Every scene, every shot, different dialogue.”

Chan then answered in the affirmative when Clarkson asked him if he faced comprehension issues when he had to improvise. “I asked my dialect coach, ‘What did he say?’ He speaks so fast!” Chan said.

Chan credited country music for improving his English, stating that the songs are not fast-paced. In a previous interview with Buzzfeed, Chan was asked to rank his favorite Rush Hour films.

“I don’t know. You know what, the first one: little money, little time,” he said about the first installment. “We shot it like, ‘Go, go, go, go!’ The second one: a lot of money, a lot of time. The third one: too much money, too much time.” “Too much money is no good,” he also stated.

Rush Hour hit the theatres in 1998. The cop action comedy movie featured Chan and Tucker as police officers who teamed up to “rescue the Chinese Consul’s kidnapped daughter, while trying to arrest a dangerous crime lord along the way”, per IMDb.

The success of the debut movie paved the way for two more Rush Hour sequels to be released in 2001 and 2007 respectively. Chan in December 2022 also spoke about the likelihood of releasing a fourth Rush Hour sequel.

“We’re talking about part four right now,” Chan said at a film festival in Saudi Arabia, Deadline reported.

2025/2026 ESTIMATED PRICE OF MEALIE MEAL CALCULATION- Sean  Tembo

2025/2026 ESTIMATED PRICE OF MEALIE MEAL CALCULATION:

By Sean E. Tembo

-FRA price for 50kg bag of maize = K340
-Estimated cost of transport, insurance, administration & storage (30%) = K102
-Estimated Landed cost of 50kg bag of maize at millers’ premises = (K340+K102) = K442

-Estimated amount of breakfast mealie meal that comes out of a 50kg bag of maize = 80% x 50kg = 40kg
-Estimated cost of milling (labour, overheads, packaging, distribution) (40%) = K177

-Estimated total cost to miller of 40kg breakfast mealie meal before profit mark-up = (K442+177) = K619
-Estimated profit mark-up by millers = 15% x K619 = K93

-Estimated selling price by miller for 40kg of breakfast mealie meal = (K619+K93) = K712

-Estimated selling price by miller for a 25kg bag of breakfast mealie meal = K712/40 x 25 = K445
-Estimated profit mark-up by retailers = 5% x K445 = K22

ESTIMATED SHELF SELLING PRICE FOR A 25KG BAG OF BREAKFAST MEALIE MEAL FOR THE 2025/2026 PERIOD = (K445+K22) = K467

Conclusion: With an FRA buying price of K340, the farmer makes a loss and the consumer cannot afford the mealie meal. In short, it’s a double tragedy.

The solution is to reduce the cost of farming inputs by producing all the fertilizer locally through a state parastatal like Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia. Anyway, TILI TONSE 🤝 and the Future is SET ✌🏽

Press Statement from the Office of the Secretary General of the Tonse-PF Alliance, Hon. Raphael Mangani Nakachinda

Press Statement from the Office of the Secretary General of the Tonse-PF Alliance, Hon. Raphael Mangani Nakachinda

Date: June 04, 2025

The Tonse-PF Alliance unequivocally rejects the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Bill, 2025, as gazetted by the current administration. This proposed amendment is a blatant affront to our democratic principles and an insult to the intelligence of the Zambian people.

1. Flawed Process and Lack of Genuine Consultation

The government’s approach to constitutional reform has been characterized by a top-down methodology, lacking genuine public consultation. Civil society organizations have expressed deep concern over the absence of a clear and transparent roadmap for the amendment process. The announcement of constitutional amendments without a detailed plan undermines the participatory nature essential for such a significant undertaking.

2. Superficial Inclusivity Measures

The allocation of only three seats for persons with disabilities in the expanded National Assembly is not only inadequate but also tokenistic. This minimal inclusion fails to address the broader issues of representation and inclusivity. Civil society organizations have emphasized that such limited  representation does not align with the principles of equality and non-discrimination. Furthermore, the proposed reserved seats for women and youth, while seemingly progressive, lack a clear implementation framework, raising concerns about their effectiveness.

3. Piecemeal Amendments and Political Expediency

The proposed amendments resemble the previously rejected Bill 10, raising concerns about the government’s intentions. The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has criticized the government’s approach, describing it as a reintroduction of controversial provisions through the backdoor. LAZ emphasizes that any constitutional amendments should be comprehensive, widely consulted, and not politically driven.

4. Alternative Approach by the Tonse-PF Alliance

As an alternative government, the Tonse-PF Alliance advocates for a comprehensive and inclusive constitutional reform process. This process should:

Engage in Broad-Based Consultations:

•  Involve all stakeholders, including civil society, political parties, traditional leaders, and the general public, to ensure that the reforms reflect the collective will of the people.

Ensure Genuine Representation:

•  Implement measures that go beyond tokenism to ensure meaningful participation of marginalized groups, including women, youths, and persons with disabilities.

Adopt a Holistic Approach:

•  Address interconnected issues within the governance ecosystem, such as judicial independence, checks and balances, and decentralization, rather than isolated amendments.

Maintain Transparency and Accountability:

•  Provide a clear roadmap and timeline for the reform process, ensuring that citizens are informed and can actively participate at every stage.

In conclusion, the Tonse-PF Alliance stands firm in its commitment to protecting the sanctity of our Constitution. We urge the government to halt the current amendment process and initiate a genuine, inclusive, and comprehensive constitutional reform that truly reflects the aspirations of the Zambian people.

SENIOR PF MEMBERS DEFECT TO UPND, CITE PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S DEVELOPMENT RECORD

SENIOR PF MEMBERS DEFECT TO UPND, CITE PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S DEVELOPMENT RECORD

Lusaka, Zambia – June 4, 2025

A number of senior founding members of the Patriotic Front (PF) have officially defected to the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND), citing the developmental strides made under President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership.

Leading the group of defectors is Paul Moonga, who recently announced his resignation from the PF. He was joined by Retired Captain Benson Mpundu from Chilanga, Rabison Siwila—Vice Constituency Chairman from Katuba, Benedatte Kaimbe—Treasurer in Chilanga, and Betty Chisi—the Women’s Vice Chairlady from Chilanga District.

Speaking during the event, Retired Captain Mpundu said his decision to join the UPND was motivated by the unity, love, peace, and inclusiveness that the ruling party has demonstrated both in leadership and among its grassroots membership.

“These are clear signs of the presence of God’s spirit in the ruling party. I am inspired to be part of the efforts to develop this country under President Hichilema,” said Capt. Mpundu.

He praised President Hichilema’s servant leadership style and highlighted key achievements such as the reintroduction of meal allowances for university students, the implementation of the free education policy, and notable improvements in the agricultural sector.

He also commended the government’s announcement of a K340 floor price for a 50kg bag of maize by the Food Reserve Agency—an initiative aimed at increasing farmers’ income.

The defectors were warmly received by UPND Secretary General Batuke Imenda, who commended their courage and described their decision as a timely birthday gift for President Hichilema, who turned 63 today.

Mr. Imenda reaffirmed the party’s commitment to inclusive development and praised President Hichilema’s leadership in steering Zambia through various national challenges, including a high debt burden, the aftermath of  pandemic, and prolonged droughts.

“Had the PF remained in power, Zambia’s problems would have worsened due to the poor leadership they offered. Under President Hichilema, the economy is now back on track,” Mr. Imenda said.

The defection marks yet another high-profile shift in Zambia’s political landscape as the UPND continues to gain ground following its 2021 electoral victory and ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Pastor Duncan Simuchimba Released from Kamfinsa Prison, to Complete Sentence Outside

BREAKING: Pastor Duncan Simuchimba Released from Kamfinsa Prison, to Complete Sentence Outside

Pastor Duncan Daniel Simuchimba, a well-known cleric and community advocate from Kitwe, has been released from Kamfinsa Correctional Facility after serving four months of a ten-month sentence. The remaining six months will be served outside the prison walls under conditions believed to be part of a supervised release program. His release has been met with both relief and celebration by his supporters, especially among marketeers and informal traders who viewed his imprisonment as unjust.

Pastor Simuchimba’s arrest earlier this year was surrounded by controversy. He was charged with allegedly inciting public unrest through sermons and social media commentary. Critics of the arrest said the charges lacked substance and were politically driven, aimed at silencing a community leader who had grown increasingly vocal about social injustices faced by informal workers.

Astone Sakala, Coordinator of the Informal Economy Consortium of Zambia (IECZ), welcomed the release with a message of unity and gratitude. “We thank all those who stood with Pastor Duncan Simuchimba and us marketeers during this difficult period. As marketeers, we shall continue to be united in good times and bad times. Together we can,” Sakala stated in a public message.

Several members of the clergy have also spoken out about the arrest, describing it as an abuse of power. In an earlier statement, Reverend Chilekwa M of Ndola condemned the political interference he believed led to the arrest. “Politicians in Kitwe should spare the Pastor from their unnecessary cheap politics. It’s important to remind them that every citizen has a right to freedom of expression and association within the law,” he said.

Supporters of Pastor Simuchimba have insisted that his statements were not incitement, but rather a call for social justice. Many believe that his arrest reflects a growing trend where outspoken citizens and community leaders face harassment for speaking out against poor governance and economic hardship. The incident has raised fresh questions about the balance between public order and constitutional freedoms in Zambia.

While official details surrounding the terms of his early release have not yet been confirmed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, it is widely believed that Pastor Simuchimba was released under a community-based sentencing arrangement. These programs allow non-violent offenders to serve part of their sentences outside correctional facilities under supervision.

Public reaction to the release has been largely positive, with small gatherings of supporters seen in Kitwe celebrating the news. Some carried placards reading “Justice for Pastor Duncan” and called on government authorities to protect freedom of speech and the role of the Church in society. Others emphasized the importance of forgiveness and national healing over political vendettas.

Though Pastor Simuchimba has not issued a formal public statement since his release, sources close to his family say he remains in good health and plans to resume his religious duties while abiding by the terms of his supervised release. His legal team has also hinted that an appeal may be considered in the future to challenge the original conviction.

A Vote Against the People Is a Vote Against History- Dr Mwelwa

A Vote Against the People Is a Vote Against History

By Dr Mwelwa

> “Will Members of Parliament Surely Vote for a Bill That the People Have Rejected?”

In a constitutional democracy, Parliament exists not to serve itself, but to serve the people. It is a forum where the collective will of the nation is refined into law—not where that will is silenced. That is why, in the context of Constitution Amendment Bill No. 7 of 2025, one fundamental and moral question must echo in every corner of the National Assembly:

Will Members of Parliament surely vote for a bill that the people have clearly rejected?

This question is not rhetorical—it is constitutional, legal, and profoundly ethical. The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ), in its recent press statement, has laid bare the dangers and procedural defects of this bill. The Church, including voices from the Council of Churches in Zambia and the Catholic Bishops, have asked for a halt. Civil society—from ActionAid to Transparency International Zambia—has joined the call. Students, opposition parties, and traditional voices outside of select provincial endorsements have spoken. What more clarity do MPs need? Whose voice are they waiting for?

If Parliament proceeds to pass a bill that has been widely rejected by key stakeholders, then it will not be amending the Constitution—it will be amputating the spirit of democracy. The Constitution is not a private document, but the common inheritance of the Zambian people. The preamble of our own Constitution says it is adopted by “We the People of Zambia,” not We the Cabinet, not We the Party, and certainly not We the Political Elite.

So again, how can MPs proceed, eyes wide open, to vote for a bill that the people have not owned, debated, or embraced?

We must remember that the authority MPs exercise is delegated. The seat they occupy belongs to the people of Chipili, Chienge, Lukashya, Mandevu, Chawama—not to party leaders, not to the executive. An MP is a servant of the constituency, not a slave to a party whip. If an MP cannot consult their people on a constitutional change of this magnitude, what exactly is their role?

Some may argue that Parliament is supreme under Article 79, and legally, they may be right. But law is not a tool for betrayal, and legality is not morality. Fiat justitia ruat caelum—Let justice be done though the heavens fall. Constitutional reform must not merely follow the letter of the law, but the spirit of public trust.

The moral legitimacy of any law is not derived from how many votes it gets in Parliament, but from how well it reflects the will, interests, and aspirations of the people. If the people have not asked for more MPs, not asked for quiet by-elections, not demanded silent party replacements of expelled members—why are we proposing it in their name?

Why is this government not starting with the promises it made? Why is it not giving more teeth to the Electoral Commission of Zambia to ensure free and fair elections? Why is it not repealing the Public Order Act to allow peaceful assembly? Why is it not strengthening the Anti-Corruption Commission and the Auditor General to secure accountability? Why is it starting from the top, with power, numbers, and procedural engineering?

MPs must reflect: Will I vote for this bill and sleep peacefully knowing my people said no? Will I hide behind a technicality and betray their trust? Will I look my children in the eye and say I helped mutilate the Constitution for a job, a car, or fear of losing favour?

Make no mistake—this vote will not be forgotten. It will be your legacy. History has no short memory for those who undermine constitutions. Ask the MPs who voted for similar self-serving amendments in 2001 and 2015—what did the people remember? Ask those who promised to end cadreism, but didn’t—what did the ballot say?

As African wisdom says: “Chalo chali bumba—what you mold today becomes the shape of tomorrow.” This Constitution is the clay of our Republic. Will you mold it with wisdom and integrity, or with expedience and cowardice?

The people have rejected this bill in spirit and substance. The nation has spoken. If Parliament cannot hear that voice, then democracy is no longer represented in the chamber. The people will remember.

UPND CRITICIZES NGOCC FOR U-TURNING ON BILL 7

UPND CRITICIZES NGOCC FOR U-TURNING ON BILL 7

The UPND has criticized the Non-governmental Gender Organizations Coordinating Council -NGOCC- for advocating for the withdrawal of bill 7 of 2025.

Addressing the media in Lusaka this morning where 4 members of the opposition Patriotic Front joined the party, UPND secretary general Batuke Imenda says it is surprising that NGOCC u-turned on the process despite having supported it during women’s day celebrations in Kasama.

Mr. Imenda has urged citizens not to be swayed by alleged falsehoods especially from the opposition and other civil society organizations, which do not mean well and have failed to recognize the UPND’s significant efforts to stabilize the country.

At the same briefing, friends of bally student, a student group from various institutions of higher learning representative Albert Manjelonje backed bill 7 for promotion of inclusivity in government.

Meanwhile, the clergy in Ndola is calling on Members of Parliament to engage with stakeholders and listen to their concerns regarding the proposed constitutional amendment number 7 of 2025, rather than rushing to pass it without broad consensus.

Speaking on the sidelines on the town hall meeting with the Law Association of Zambia-LAZ in Ndola today on constitutional law, cyber law and human rights, organizing committee member and city chapel reverend, Chilekwa Mulenga, is disappointed that none of Ndola’s four members of parliament have convened a town hall meeting to educate constituents on the proposed amendments.

Reverend Mulenga has questioned whether the current approach to constitutional reform can be considered “people-driven,” emphasizing the need for inclusive and participatory processes.

He has warned that the government’s approach may impact public trust in institutions and the political process.

URGENT CALL FOR THE WITHDRAWAL OF BILL 7 AS IT IS  A THREAT TO DEMOCRATIC PRINCIPLES AND LOCAL GOVERNANCE- UMODZI KUM’MAWA

URGENT CALL FOR THE WITHDRAWAL OF BILL 7 AS IT IS  A THREAT TO DEMOCRATIC PRINCIPLES AND LOCAL GOVERNANCE

The KUM’MAWA DEVELOPMENT COALITION, known as UMODZI KUM’MAWA, stands in solidarity with His Royal Highness, Paramount Chief Mpezeni, in voicing our grave concerns regarding the recent Constitution Amendments under Bill 7. We echo his sentiments that the lack of consultation with traditional leaders and vital stakeholders undermines not only the integrity of the legislative process but also the fundamental rights of the Zambian people.

These amendments threaten to erode the democratic values we hold dear, silencing the voices of communities who should actively participate in shaping the laws that govern them.

In light of overwhelming opposition from various sectors of society including the Church, the Non-Governmental Organizations Coordinating Council (NGOCC), Civil Society Organizations, the Law Association of Zambia, and the general populace, we call on the government to immediately recall or withdraw Bill 7.

The Zambian people have made it abundantly clear that they reject these proposed amendments, primarily due to the glaring absence of transparency and meaningful consultation processes. Our democratic framework thrives only when all stakeholders, especially those at the grassroots level, are actively engaged in such significant decisions.

Moreover, passing this bill without comprehensive consultations poses serious risks to our governance structure. It can lead to the marginalization of traditional leaders and local voices, ultimately destabilizing the fabric of our communities.

Additionally, such actions could result in a disconnect between the government and the people, fostering an environment ripe for discontent and resistance. The consequences may include undermining the already fragile trust in public institutions, thus exacerbating social and political tensions within our nation

We implore the government to prioritize dialogue and inclusiveness over hurried legislation. The future of our democracy hangs in the balance, and it is imperative that we listen to the collective wisdom of our people.

As UMODZI KUM’MAWA, we remain committed to advocating for a transparent and participatory approach to governance, ensuring that all Zambians can have a say in shaping their own future.

THE FOOTPRINTS OF CORRUPTION: WHY PF’s RETURN TO POWER THROUGH THE TONSE IS A RECIPE FOR DISASTER”

“THE FOOTPRINTS OF CORRUPTION: WHY PF’s RETURN TO POWER THROUGH THE TONSE IS A RECIPE FOR DISASTER”

By Timmy

Folks, let’s face it, the Patriotic Front (PF) has a track record of corruption, brutality, and mismanagement that’s simply staggering. And now, they’re trying to convince Zambians that they’ve changed, that they’re the answer to the country’s problems. Give me a break!

🔴The PF’s Dirty Past

✅Corruption: The PF’s tenure was marked by rampant corruption, with public funds being looted left and right. Who can forget the scandals that rocked the nation?
✅Brutality: The PF’s law enforcement was notorious for brutalizing citizens, with women being undressed and humiliated in public. This is the kind of behavior that should never be tolerated.
✅Mismanagement: The PF’s economic policies were a disaster, leaving Zambia’s economy in shambles.

🔴The Same Old Faces in New Alliances

It’s laughable that the same o PF members are now trying to cozy up to  TONSE, pretending to be something they’re not.  Emmanuel mwamba, a key PF figure, is a prime example. He’s been trying to manipulate public opinion, even going so far as to criticize the government’s attempts to curb hate speech. But let’s be real, these guys are just trying to cling to power.

🔴Why UPND is  still the Better Choice

President Hakainde Hichilema’s government, on the other hand, is committed to transparency, accountability, and good governance. They’re working hard to turn Zambia’s economy around and ensure that the country is run for the benefit of all Zambians, not just a select few.

🔴The Verdict

So, Zambians, the choice is clear. Do you want to go back to the dark days of PF rule, or do you want to continue on the path of progress and development with UPND? The answer is obvious. Let’s keep Zambia moving forward, and leave the PF’s toxic politics behind.

🔴Bringing Thugs to Book

It’s high time that those who perpetrated atrocities during the PF’s rule are brought to justice. Zambians deserve accountability, and it’s up to us to demand it. Let’s make sure that those who are guilty face the music, so that we can move forward as a nation.

In 2026, let’s make a conscious decision to reject the PF’s brand of politics and choose leaders who will put Zambia’s interests first. The future is bright, but only if we choose wisely.

YDF REJECTS ZAMBIA’S CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT BILL, CALLS FOR DELAY UNTIL AFTER 2026 ELECTIONS

YDF REJECTS ZAMBIA’S CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT BILL, CALLS FOR DELAY UNTIL AFTER 2026 ELECTIONS

The Youth Development Foundation in Chipata has joined other stakeholders in rejecting the proposed Constitutional Amendment Bill,  stating that it is a government-driven bill, as stakeholders were not involved in its initial stages.

Executive Director Chinoya Muyeye has urged the government to defer the bill until after the 2026 general elections to allow sufficient time for civic education and consultation with stakeholders.

Mr. Muyeye said that the bill, does not reflect the government’s emphasis on youth, women, and persons with disabilities’ engagement in governance.

He explained that according to the proposed constitutional recommendations, where the government is creating 55 new constituencies—bringing the total to 211, with an additional 10 that the president will be able to nominate—the total number of parliamentarians will rise to 221.

He further stated that the government’s decision to reserve only 12 constituencies for youths, 20 for women, and three for persons with disabilities is not an appropriate approach. He argued that the government is rushing to legislate the amendment bill.

Mr. Muyeye has called on the government to withdraw the bill so that adequate time can be provided for the bill to be properly debated.

BILL 7: A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, BUT LAZ’s OBJECTIONS Fall FLAT

BILL 7: A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, BUT LAZ’s OBJECTIONS Fall FLAT

“Folks, let me tell you, the Law Association of Zambia, or LAZ, is absolutely wrong about Bill 7. They’re whining about not enough stakeholder engagement, but they’re right in the middle of the process, picking and choosing which clauses to reject and support. That’s how the system works, folks. So, why are they suddenly demanding more consultations all over the country? It’s just a total waste of time, folks, like reinventing the wheel over and over.

🔴The Real Issue: Cutting Down on By-Elections
Lungisani Zulu, come on, stop wasting our time. What’s your better plan for cutting down on by-elections? You’ve got a chance to make submissions to the committee, so what’s holding you back? You’ve got colleagues against Bill 7, but why do you need every single Zambian consulted when they’re agreeable to the bill? Let’s face it, Bill 7 actually favors the opposition. They won’t worry about losing their seats through by-elections.

🔴LAZ’s Position: A Lame Duck
LAZ is a lame duck in this process. The people have the final say through their Members of Parliament. Who told you LAZ’s vote matters here? One learned counsel asked the LAZ president who he consulted for his statement, and that’s a great question.

🔴The Bill’s Provisions: A Closer Look
Let’s break down the bill’s provisions:
✅Section 8: Allowing vacancies in Parliament to be filled by political parties .
✅Women, Youths, and Persons with Disabilities.
✅Expanded National Assembly.

LAZ, withdraw your objections and let’s move forward. The people of Zambia deserve better. Bill 7 is a step in the right direction, but we need to make it work. No more delays, no more excuses. Let’s get it done, folks.”

UPND GOVERNMENT NOT BEING TRUTHFUL

….they are saying there is no money to employ doctors but yet they want to create 55 new constituencies, says SP

Lusaka…. Wednesday June 4, 2025 — The opposition Socialist Party (SP) says the UPND government is not being truthful that there is no money to employ more medical doctors in the country and yet they want to create 55 new Constituencies through Bill No. 7 of 2025.

SP General Secretary Dr Cosmas Musumali says the UPND government lacks priority in governance of the country.

Dr. Musumali says by creating more new Constituencies in the country, the government will be spending more for the new Members of Parliament.

He says roughly, the country will be spending about US$25 million for transportation needs of the Members of Parliament.

He said this during the ‘SP Hour’ programme on Hot FM Radio in Lusaka this morning.

“The Minister of Health is not being truthful because the doctors have been airing their grievances for a long time. They have engaged government on several occasions and this has been in the public domain, it’s not a state secret that doctors have been complaining and they have tried everything possible but government has not listened to them. The doctors are actually crying for help they are saying they want to save lives in the country but you also have to take care of us, give us the jobs that we need. I don’t think the Minister has the moral right to speak to them about saving lives more than they do,” he said.

“The Minister is talking of the fiscal space, what does that mean? Because the same government is coming up with Bill 7 of 2025 which is going to create atleast 55 new Constituencies. If you do simple arithmetic just about the transport requirement of the Members of Parliament, it will come to about US$25 million; that is what will be needed to service the transport requirements of MPs according to Bill 7.”

Dr. Musumali has emphasized the need for the country to employ more medical doctors to attend to the health needs of the people.

“How many medical doctors are required now? We need a lot of medical doctors. This country is short of medical doctors as we have about 3, 000 medical doctors available. About 2, 000 are in Lusaka and 1, 000 out of Lusaka. What is the required number of medical doctors according to the World Health Organization (WHO) standards; it says one doctor should serve one thousand people. And we are 22 million people in this country, if we do the arithmetic, we need about 22 thousand medical doctors but we only have 3, 000,” he added.

“We are not fair to the 3,000 medical doctors and they are saying there is no money to employ more medical doctors yet the same government is trying to dish out money to consolidate its power by creating more Constituencies. This is a government that has no priorities. It’s a government that is lying to Zambians!”

The SP General Secretary said the medical doctors in the country are not düll to understand that the country has enough resources to employ.

“And the medical doctors are not düll, they know that the government has money but it’s not setting priorities right,” he concluded.

“We will shut you down”, IBA Threatens Kabwe’s Cloud FM

The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has cautioned Kabwe – based Cloud FM Radio for allegedly contravening provisions of the IBA Act and the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) which require all broadcasting content to be fair, impartial, responsible and respectful of human dignity.

The broadcasting authority has, however said it has acknowledged and commended the station for instances in which it promptly halted live broadcasting statements which had the potential to cause harm, incite violence, hatred, or public disorder.

IBA acting director general, Susen Ndumingu has said the warning follows comprehensive monitoring of the station’s content during which the IBA observed multiple instances of poor programme moderation, bias, and emotionally charged content that failed to meet the required journalistic and ethical standards particularly in its News Analysis and Cutting-Edge programmes.

Ndumingu has told the media in a statement that key breaches identified include: failure to guide and moderate callers and guests during live programmes, airing of unsubstantiated and emotionally charged claims, deliberate skewing of discussions, compromising neutrality, and technical shortcomings during call-in segments.

“The authority has since directed Cloud FM Radio to submit a corrective action report within seven (7) days and to immediately align its programming with the provisions of the IBA Act, 2010 and its corresponding SOPs,” Ndumingu said.

Ndumingu added that IBA remains committed to promoting ethical and responsible broadcasting that safeguards public peace, security, and the integrity of the media landscape.

The station’s editor in chief Wilson Kuyumayuma Pondamli, reiterated the station’s commitment to upholding the ethics of journalism and called for calm from the followers and other stakeholders.

“My Office Moves With Me”: The Road Warrior Spirit of Janet Kamenda, Female Truck Driver Defying Stereotypes

“My Office Moves With Me”: The Road Warrior Spirit of Janet Kamenda, Female Truck Driver Defying Stereotypes

In a world where most people wake up and walk into an office, Janet Kamenda wakes up already in hers a powerful machine of steel and wheels that she commands with grit, grace, and an unshakable sense of purpose.

A proud Zambian woman behind the wheel of a heavy-duty truck, Janet is not just driving cargo she’s steering a movement. A movement that challenges stereotypes, empowers women, and celebrates the unseen heroes who keep nations connected.

“My truck is my office,” Janet says. “It’s where I think, work, eat, and sometimes sleep. It’s my grind my hustle on wheels.”

For Janet, the road isn’t just a route it’s a way of life. Her cab becomes her workspace, her rest stop, and her temporary home. Behind every delivery made and every mile conquered lies a story of determination, sacrifice, and strength.

Truck driving, especially as a woman, is no walk in the park. It demands long hours, grueling conditions, and time away from family. But Janet doesn’t complain. She reflects with pride and honesty.

“Yes, I have a home. It’s filled with love, peace, and memories. But I only visit it. Because the road is where I live most of the time,” she says.
“This life takes discipline working when you’re exhausted, resting in strange places, pushing on when your heart misses home.”

And yet, she embraces it.
To the outside world, people often only see the final product: the delivery, the stocked shelves, the fuel at the station. But few understand the journey it takes to get it all there.

“People see the destination. But I live the journey,” she shares. “Every corner I turn, every kilometer I cover that’s the real story.”

Janet’s story is not just her own, it’s the story of countless truck drivers across Zambia and beyond. And for the women who dare to step into this male-dominated industry, it’s a powerful declaration of what’s possible.

“If you’re out there grinding whether you’re driving, running your own business, or working long hours away from family just know this: you’re not alone.
Your hard work matters. Your sacrifice is your strength.”

In a time when women are increasingly breaking barriers in sectors once considered off-limits, Janet Kamenda stands tall as a symbol of what courage looks like in motion.

“We don’t just work. We carry nations. We connect cities. We move the world.”

For Janet, her truck may have wheels but her vision stands still and strong: to inspire more women to pursue non-traditional careers, to take pride in honest work, and to redefine what power looks like.

“So yes, my office moves with me,” she says with a smile.
“Yes, my home misses me. But I’m out here making it happen.”

Her message to Zambia, to Africa, and to every working woman fighting to make her dreams roll forward?
Keep going. Your journey matters. You’re not just driving, you’re delivering something far greater than cargo: you’re delivering purpose.

The emotional moment took place during a prize giving ceremony at Lusaka Golf Club earlier today where Mumba is was sponsoring a two-day golf tournament from May 31 to June 1.

At a time when Mumba was on the verge of giving up due to a lack of support and recognition, Coach Adrian Chunduma stepped in offering guidance, mentorship, and working tirelessly to help him find sponsorship opportunities. His belief in Mumba reignited the young golfer’s dreams and helped chart a new path for his future.

Recalling those early struggles, Mumba shared a deeply personal reflection.

“At a time when no one believed in me, my coach did. He could have chosen anyone else. I was a naughty boy I even remember being banned for life from this very golf club. I’m truly grateful for everything he did for me.”

2024/2025 MAIZE CROP FLOOR PRICE FAIR TO FARMER – PHIRI

2024/2025 MAIZE CROP FLOOR PRICE FAIR TO FARMER – PHIRI

… says it’s a step in the right direction.

LUPOSOSHI, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 04, 2025 [SMART EAGLES]

Go back to the Land Zambia has welcomed the announcement of the 2024/2025 maize crop price saying it is fair and reflective of the cost of production.

Organization executive director Cyprian Phiri said at a time when many anticipated a reduction in the price due to the projected bumper harvest, the government’s decision to maintain a fair price underscores its continued commitment to supporting and empowering the Zambian farmer.

He said the decision demonstrates the importance that the government attaches to the welfare of small-scale and commercial farmers, as well as its recognition of agriculture as a key driver of economic growth and rural development.

He said farmers across the country should consider expanding their hectarage in the 2025/2026 farming season adding that with proper planning and support, increased production will translate into improved income and sustainability for farming households.

“As an organization, Go back to the Land Zambia is committed to advocating for the timely disbursement of Sustainable Agricultural Financing Facility (SAFF) loans. We urge the government, through its relevant agencies and cooperating partners, to expedite this process to allow farmers sufficient time to plan and prepare adequately for the next farming season,” he said

“We remain hopeful that with continued collaboration between government, private sector, and farmer organizations, Zambia will not only achieve food security but also ensure that agriculture remains a profitable and dignified livelihood for our people,” Mr. Phiri said.

Patrice Evra: “If Ferguson were coaching today, he’d be in jail!”

Patrice Evra: “If Ferguson were coaching today, he’d be in jail!”

Former Manchester United star Patrice Evra revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson’s tough and often ruthless management style would have likely landed him in jail if applied in today’s era. Ferguson, who managed United from 1986 to 2013, led the club to an incredible 38 trophies, including 13 Premier League titles, making United the most successful club in Premier League history. However, since his retirement in 2013, the team has failed to win the league again

In a shocking interview on the SDS Podcast, Evra, who won five Premier League titles and a Champions League under Ferguson, said the legendary manager was “a total gangster, in every sense of the word.”

Evra explained,
“If Ferguson was coaching today, he’d end up in jail. There’s no way he’d get away with what he used to do. Do you know how many players I saw cry because of his yelling? He used to throw boots at players — he was a real gangster.”

He recalled a famous incident in 2003 when Ferguson kicked a boot that struck David Beckham above the eye after a loss to Arsenal in the FA Cup. Ferguson allegedly shouted,
“That’s what you get for shaking it nice for her, you little shorts model!

Evra also shared a story involving Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck in a friendly match. Rooney let Welbeck take a penalty as encouragement, but Welbeck missed. Despite the game being friendly, Ferguson stormed into the bathroom yelling
“Who the f\*\*\* are you, son of a b\*\*\*\*, to be taking penalties for the first team?!”

Evra described the team environment under Ferguson as brutal and recounted another incident after Nani was injured in a match against Liverpool in 2011. When Nani started crying, Paul Scholes told him to get off the field. But as Nani walked off, Ferguson shouted from the touchline
“I hope your leg is actually broken, because if it’s not, I’ll hang you by your balls! No Man United player cries at Anfield, you little…”

These stories illustrate the fierce and uncompromising atmosphere that defined Manchester United under Ferguson, a culture of toughness that forged one of the most dominant teams in football history, but one that would likely be impossible to replicate in today’s game.

LUANSHYA MAN GETS 15 YEARS IMPRIS0NMENT FOR STEALING CHICKEN, K40

LUANSHYA MAN GETS 15 YEARS IMPRIS0NMENT FOR STEALING CHICKEN, K40

A 34-year-old man of Luanshya has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisoñment with hard labour for røbbing a woman of a chicken, K40 cash, and other items, all valued at K300.

This is in a case Richard Mwape, unemployed, was charged with aggrav@ted r0bbery.

On August 23, 2023, around 19:00 hours, Mwape robbed Christabel Muntanga, 45, of a chicken, mattress, K40 cash, and other valuables.

It was heard that on the material night, Mwape approached the victim’s house arm£d with an ax£, iron bar, and other tools, demanding property from her, including a chicken.

The victim testified that she recognised Mwape, who was later apprehended a few metres from her house.

In his defence, Mwape claimed that three men were pursuing him as he ran along Lumumba Road but became exhausted.

It was then that an unknown person struck him with a sharp object, and he was arrested by police the following day.

“Police found me in possession of items including an ax£ and a chicken, but I did not provide a statement to the officers,” he said.

Delivering judgment yesterday, Ndola High Court Judge Lameck Mwale said it was a fact that the complainant saw the convict, who was apprehended shortly after.

He added that the victim also identified Mwape in court. Judge Mwale said the law stipulates that any person armed with a weapon used to obtain or attempt to obtain property is liable to a minimum of 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.

“Therefore, the State proved the case beyond reasonable doubt,” he said In mitigation, Mwape, through his lawyers, regretted the ordeal but that no actual violence occurred and that there were no aggravating factors warranting a life sentence.

Judge Mwale sentenced Mwape to a minimum sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.

Former Minister of Finance of Ghana Wanted

Former Minister of Finance of Ghana Wanted

Ghana is turning to Interpol to locate and extradite its former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta, who now stands accused of evading justice amid multiple corruption probes.

Ghana’s former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta has officially been declared a fugitive from justice by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), which has initiated proceedings to issue an Interpol Red Notice to facilitate his arrest and extradition.

This move follows Ofori-Atta’s failure to appear in person before the OSP on 2 June to respond to a series of high-value corruption allegations dating back to his tenure as the key architect of Ghana’s economic policy between 2017 and 2023. The charges relate to alleged procurement irregularities, financial mismanagement and the authorisation of questionable payments.

Accused of deliberately evading justice
Special prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng accused Ofori-Atta of deliberately evading justice, stating that his refusal to appear in person despite repeated invitations demonstrated “baleful spite toward law enforcement and criminal investigations”.

The special prosecutor will have to go and arrest him personally if he wants him back in Ghana

Ofori-Atta had requested to participate via video due to health reasons, citing a medical notice from the Mayo Clinic in the US.

Ghana’s most influential political families: Kufuor, Rawlings, Ofori-Atta
However, the OSP said no official medical documentation had been received. As a result, the office rejected the request for virtual engagement and proceeded with efforts to locate and extradite him.

“Ofori-Atta’s conduct is unacceptable… It ends here. It ends today,” Agyebeng declared.

Ofori-Atta’s lawyer: ‘He is simply unwell’
Ofori-Atta’s lawyer, Frank Davies, says his client is not fleeing justice but is “unwell and undergoing treatment” in the US. He accuses the OSP of “politicising” the issue and undermining due process.

“It’s a fact, and I can assure you that Ken Ofori-Atta is not fleeing from justice,” Davies told The Africa Report. “It is easy to verify that he is simply unwell, and the OSP is aware of this.”

Ghana’s corruption crackdown: Ofori-Atta, Asamoah among key people named
However, some legal experts remain unconvinced. Lawyer Martin Kpebu criticised Ofori-Atta for failing to honour the agreed appointment. “He has not shown good faith at all,” Kpebu told The Africa Report, though he also argued that the OSP should clarify why virtual participation was ruled out given the circumstances.

Legal and political implications
A motion filed by Ofori-Atta at the Human Rights Court to restrain the OSP from labelling him a “fugitive from justice” has been adjourned until 18 June. The court’s ruling could influence whether Interpol proceeds with issuing a Red Notice and may set a precedent for how medical-related absences are treated in high-profile corruption investigations.

Ofori-Atta’s legacy is closely tied to Ghana’s current economic challenges. His tenure saw the country descend into debt distress, marked by soaring inflation, a depreciating currency, and the decision to seek IMF assistance after initially ruling it out.

Beyond the personal consequences for Ofori-Atta, the case could serve as a test for Ghana’s institutions, particularly the independence and resolve of the Office of the Special Prosecutor. It may also shape the credibility of the country’s anti-corruption efforts ahead of the 2028 elections.

Journalist and outspoken political commentator Kevin Taylor told local broadcaster Joy TV that Ofori-Atta is unlikely to return voluntarily, suggesting that “the special prosecutor will have to go and arrest him personally if he wants him back in Ghana”.

Elon Musk slams Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” as deficit disaster

Elon Musk slams Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” as deficit disaster

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has unleashed a scathing attack on US President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” calling it a “disgusting abomination” in a series of fiery X posts.

The legislation, passed by the House in May 2025, has sparked a fierce debate over its projected $2.3–$3.8 trillion increase to the federal deficit over the next decade, according to the Congressional Budget Office and independent analysts.

Musk, a former ally of Trump, decried the bill as “pork-filled” and warned it would saddle Americans with “crushingly unsustainable debt.”

The act extends Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, ramps up spending on military and border security, and raises the debt ceiling by $4 trillion, while slashing Medicaid, SNAP, and green-energy tax credits cuts that could hit Musk’s Tesla and other ventures hard.

Fiscal conservatives like Senators Rand Paul and Mike Lee echo Musk’s concerns, decrying the deficit surge. But House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune pushed back, with Johnson hinting Musk’s opposition stems from the loss of electric vehicle tax credits.

In a surprising twist, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and some Democrats sided with Musk, seizing the chance to oppose cuts to social programs.

The clash, coming days after Musk’s exit from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), underscores growing fractures within the Republican Party and a widening rift between Musk and Trump’s administration.

75% OPPOSITION MPs HAVE ALREADY AGREED TO SUPPORT CONSTITUTION AMENDMENT BILL, SAYS GOVT WHIP MULUSA

By Chamuka Shalubala

Government chief whip Stafford Mulusa says no walk out is expected among opposition members of parliament during debate of the proposed constitution amendment bill when sitting resumes next week.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Mulusa has revealed that 75 percent of the opposing MPs have already agreed to support the constitution amendment bill once it is tabled in the National Assembly, thereby making its passage into law uncomplicated.

According to Mr. Mulusa, no opposition MPs, aside from those who want to politicize everything, will walk out on the bill because it has already been agreed that it should be supported considering how progressive and inclusive it is.

He explains that the proposed constitutional amendment bill is one which is welcome in the house as it was agreed a long time ago among both the ruling and opposition MPs.

LAZ DEMANDS WITHDRAWAL OF BILL 7

LAZ DEMANDS WITHDRAWAL OF BILL 7

THE CONSTITUTION AMENDMENT BILL NO. 7 OF 2025 MUST BE  WITHDRAWN BY GOVERNMENT AS IT IS DEVOID OF STAKEHOLDERS INVOLVEMENT AND PARTICIPATION AS REQUIRED BY THE BASIC TENETS OF CONSTITUTIONALISM

The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has carefully reviewed the provisions of the
Constitution Amendment Bill No. 7 of 2025 which was published in the Government Gazette on 23rd May, 2025 wherein the Government indicates its settled intention to introduce it on the floor of the National Assembly to reform the country’s Constitutional Order.

LAZ notes with concern that the initiated proposed constitutional amendment process excluded stakeholders and citizens from involvement. In fact, the proposed Bill appears to have been published in the Gazette merely for citizens’ ‘general information’ without any established pathway for meaningful participation prior to its submission to the National Assembly.

We note, further, that Government has not disclosed any information on the processes adopted in coming up with the content of the Bill and changes thereto, nor is there information on which stakeholders made recommendations on the proposed content of the Bill.

It is LAZ’s position that the Constitution is a people’s document and their involvement in its formulation is not subject to any exceptions.

The preamble to the Constitution is explicit about this fundamental principle, and the provisions of Article 79 of the Constitution, which provides for procedures for making amendments to the Constitution, must never be used to sideline the owners of the Constitution, the citizens, from meaningfully participating in its reform.

Government and the party in power at any particular time exercising delegated power which is reposed in the people –– have an obligation to create a legally protected process which assures citizens’ meaningful participation in the reform of the supreme law of the land and protects the content.

It is therefore LAZ’s position, that the Constitution Amendment Bill No. 7 of 2025 lacks the much-needed broad-based stakeholder engagement and consensus to birth a legitimate and acceptable constitutional reform.

Unfortunately, due to its failure to benefit from the collective wisdom which broad-based
stakeholder consensus assures, some of the proposed amendments have the potential to erode the democratic tenets on which our country is anchored.

We wish to draw the attention of the
nation to the following:

1. Section 8 of the Bill proposes to amend Article 72(8) of the Constitution, to enable
vacancies in the office of Member of Parliament (MP) to be filled by Political Parties from which the MP was elected.

This is dangerous, especially with weak intra-party democracy within political parties. It not only deprives citizens of the right to choose leaders of their choice to represent them in Parliament, but can also result in abuse where democratically leaders of the people in National Assembly are wholesomely replaced, clandestinely and without elections, by timid and abiding members of the parties. This will result in the erosion of the accountability function reposed in the
National Assembly, undermining checks and balances, to the prejudice of citizens.

2. Further, the proposed amendments aimed at increasing the participation of women,
youths and persons with disabilities are wholly inadequate and do not benefit from the views of these stakeholders, whom they are purportedly intended to serve.

3. We also note that the proposed provisions increasing the number of elected Members
of Parliament to 211 are based on the Electoral Reform Technical Committee Report, which remains shrouded in secrecy, despite having been a product of a public process.

We do not believe citizens can debate an increase of constituencies, while the location
of the proposed constituencies is treated as a state secret. It is equally hard to understand
why Government would want to prioritize and rush to expend the country’s meagre
resources on an expanded National Assembly instead of prioritizing mechanisms for
actualizing the decentralization policy, for resources to trickle down to the grassroots,
especially that there is no empirical evidence that smaller constituencies are currently
better off than bigger ones, nor that the presence of more MPs is the panacea for the
much-needed economic development of the country.

LAZ, therefore, calls on Government to listen to the voice of the Church, traditional authorities, civil society among other stakeholders, and withdraw the proposed Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 7 of 2025. All constitutional reforms must be based on genuine, broad-based stakeholder engagement and consensus on both the substance and process to assure the
legitimacy of its outcome.

Meanwhile, LAZ will be convening a Public Forum to give members and the general citizenry a platform to air their views on the current proposed Constitutional reform process.

The press release on a matter of national interest, in promotion of Constitutionalism and legal reforms, has been issued in furtherance of LAZ’s mandate under Section 4 of the Law Association of Zambia Act No 31 of the Laws of Zambia.

Dated this 3rd June, 2025.

Allow MPs to Occupy their Traditional Role of Legislators- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Allow MPs to Occupy their Traditional Role of Legislators

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba Wrote;

Government primary justification in the constitutional-making process is that it is necessary to expand parliament to include women, youth and persons with disability to increase their participation in governance.

Government is also insisting that some constituencies are so large that they need to implement the recommendations of the 2019 Delimitation  Report before the country holds the next election.

This is where the argument is totally folly.

Delimitation, an exercise done every ten years, after the Census exercise, doesn’t necessary need to result in new constituencies!

Delimitation is the process of redrawing the boundaries of electoral districts, and adjusting boundaries based on census data.

However we have promoted the notion that Members of Parliament need to resolve all  social-economic issues in the Constituency from; building roads, bridges, schools, clinics and hospitals, fighting crime while attending to the needs of constituents such as funerals, sickness, and to their meet educational needs.

We have everything so twisted!

I recognize that MPs represent the views and interests of their constituents in Parliament, but that is their primary role and development must be undertaken by local structure.

DECENTRALIZATION POLICY IS THE SOLUTION

When we truly implement decentralization and devolution process, the MPs will revert to his/her primary role of a legislator, a law-maker.

It is for this reason that MPs are usually nine months away to Lusaka to attend to Parliamentary business.

We must therefore enhance the role of Councillors, the Council and the Mayor/Council Chairperson for our people to know and feel truly represented.

The structure exists already where a team of planners, technocrats and engineers led by the Town Clerk/Council Secretary and the councillors seat in Ciuncil to hammer development of the area.

It is for this reason that Government is expected to channel capacity funds and financial support to local authorities as part of its decentralization policy to support the technocrats and plans of the district.

If we allow districts to plan their own development with this democratic infrastructure, we will deliver development and change far quickly than the CDF approach. We must emphasise that CDF is not decentralization!

CDF is a small component in the decentralization and devolution process and cannot be the anchor of grassroot development.

Many people wonder why CDF is not effective despite the huge increase from K1.6million to K36.1million.

This is because the emphasis and mechanism is lopsided and impractical.

The focus should be in investing in the district council, or municipality where a democratic leadership exist (Mayor and Councillors) and delivery mechanism (Town Clerk and team) exist to bring actual and planned development.

We must continue to build financial, procurement capacity, and fiscal decentralization and resource mobilization mechanisms of the Councils.

Infact, we may even need fewer MPs than we currently have.

And no one will miss the MPs as they will revert to their traditional and primary role of legislators.

BISHOP CHISANGA AND BISHOP MULANDU CALL FOR TRANSPARENCY  AND GRASSROOT INVOLVEMENT IN THE PROPOSED CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS

BISHOP CHISANGA AND BISHOP MULANDU CALL FOR TRANSPARENCY  AND GRASSROOT INVOLVEMENT IN THE PROPOSED CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS.

The Bishop of Mansa, Rt. Rev Patrick Chisanga OFM, has called on the government to begin its consultations on the Constitutional Amendment Bill Number 7 with ordinary citizens at the grassroots level, rather than starting with traditional leaders and elected officials.

Bishop Chisanga emphasized that the people must be given a chance to understand the contents of the proposed constitutional amendments before endorsing them.

He said many citizens are still unaware of what Bill 7 entails and stressed that it is the government’s responsibility to provide clear explanations.

“It is not right for a few leaders to say everyone has agreed to something in the region when people have not been given the opportunity to express themselves,” Bishop Chisanga stated.

Rt. Rev Chisanga also warned people against endorsing what they do not even understand

The Bishop encouraged citizens to actively participate in the constitutional reform process, noting that every Zambian has the right to scrutinize how they are governed and to contribute to decisions that shape the nation such as constitutional amendment.

Meanwhile the Catholic Diocese of Mpika Bishop, Rt. Rev. Edwin Mulandu, has urged the Government leaders especially the Catholics in the leadership positions to be more transparent about the constitution amendment of bill number 7.

He said leaders should tell the people what is involved in the amendment of the bill and ensure that they also explain the implications rather than the benefits alone.

The Bishop stressed that people should know exactly what they are agreeing to and how it will affect their lives.

He expressed concern over delimitation  that comes with bill number 7 saying increasing the number of constituencies from 156 to 211 will see an increase in the number of Members of parliament which will need more resources that the country barely have at the moment , looking at its current economic state.

Bishop Mulandu has called on the government to prioritize the most pressing issues currently facing the country, such as addressing electricity shortages, restocking essential medicines in hospitals, and improving the agricultural sector. This includes ensuring farmers have access to sufficient fertilizer and securing fair market prices for maize.

The Bishop has since recommended that the plans to amend the constitution be shelved for now…

“ZAMBIA NEEDS EMPOWERMENT, NOT A BIGGER, HUNGRIER GOVERNMENT ” DORA SILIYA

“ZAMBIA NEEDS EMPOWERMENT, NOT A BIGGER, HUNGRIER GOVERNMENT ” DORA SILIYA .

Former Cabinet Minister and veteran parliamentarian Hon. Dora Siliya has launched a no-holds-barred critique of the proposed Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Bill, 2025, warning that the changes signal a dangerous shift toward bloated governance while ordinary citizens continue to choke under economic pressure and poor service delivery.

In a scathing write-up titled “Minding My Father’s Country,” Siliya describes the ongoing constitutional amendment campaign as a thinly veiled power grab that threatens to reverse Zambia’s hard-won democratic gains. Her target: the proposed increase of parliamentary constituencies from 156 to 211 a move she says will only expand government at the taxpayer’s expense without addressing deep-rooted developmental failure.

“We must ask: what are we trying to cure?” she wrote. “If smaller constituencies equaled more development, rural Zambia would be paradise by now.”

Siliya brutally exposes what she sees as hypocrisy in the justification behind the move using development as a smokescreen while ignoring the failure to decentralize actual power and financial control to the people.

“Why not turn the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) into a Ward Development Fund (WDF)? Let us stop pretending that MPs are the solution to grassroots poverty,” she declared.

She didn’t mince words when attacking the government’s reluctance to empower local communities:

“You cannot claim to be fixing the Constitution while tightening your grip at the top. This is not reform. This is consolidation of power. And worse, it’s expensive.”

The former Petauke MP challenged the logic behind further empowering MPs many of whom, like councillors, only need a Grade 12 certificate to contest office while sidelining the very people they claim to represent.

“The argument that councillors are too uneducated to manage development funds is weak and arrogant. People say the same thing about MPs.”

In an audacious proposal, Siliya offered an alternative that would disrupt Zambia’s entrenched political power structures:

“After 60 years of independence, real empowerment would mean giving every 25-year-old Zambian citizen with a Grade 12 certificate one acre of titled land. Let them build. Let them farm. Let them create wealth.”

“That’s nation-building. Not more MPs, more salaries, and more allowances for people who sit in Lusaka while villages starve.”

She accused the government of pushing constitutional changes without the usual nationwide consultations, ignoring past traditions of public engagement that ensured legitimacy and inclusivity.

“This sacred process is being hijacked by a few with narrow interests. It is a betrayal of our collective ambition a slap in the face to democracy,” she said.

The 2025 Bill, which emerged amid whispers of a “secret” draft committee, has drawn criticism for prioritizing electoral changes including proportional representation and delimitation without first fixing glaring flaws in the 2016 Constitution, including gaps in judicial hierarchy, candidate nomination rules, and non-functional commissions.

Siliya, who has participated in three constitutional processes spanning 2007 to 2021, ended her commentary with a chilling reminder:

“The Constitution is our soul. It reflects who we are and who we dare to become. We cannot let it be cheapened into a political convenience.”

LOADSHEDDING IS DELIBERATE – ZAMBIANS ARE BEING ROBBED IN BROAD DAYLIGHT WHILE ELECTRICITY IS ILLEGALLY EXPORTED FOR PRIVATE PROFIT- Kasonde Mwenda

Urgent PRESS STATEMENT

LOADSHEDDING IS DELIBERATE – ZAMBIANS ARE BEING ROBBED IN BROAD DAYLIGHT WHILE ELECTRICITY IS ILLEGALLY EXPORTED FOR PRIVATE PROFIT

By Kasonde Mwenda C – President, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Zambia

Date: 3rd June 2025

Fellow Zambians,

The continued electricity blackouts across the country—lasting up to 17 hours a day—are not a result of power shortages. Let me make it clear: LOADSHEDDING IS DELIBERATE. Zambia has enough electricity to power every home, business, and industry, yet citizens remain in the dark while politically-connected elites are exporting power to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for private gain through illegally registered companies.

Water levels have risen, and electricity generation has doubled compared to last year. Yet instead of Zambians benefiting from this improved generation capacity, a few connected individuals are raking in profits by exporting our electricity. The same Hakainde Hichilema and his UPND government who promised to end loadshedding have now U-TURNED, selling our electricity behind our backs while Zambians suffer in darkness, joblessness, and economic collapse.

ILLEGAL COMPANIES, ILLEGAL CONTRACTS – SANCTIONED BY GOVERNMENT
Evidence shows that on 2nd April 2024, at the peak of Zambia’s declared power crisis, the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) granted an electricity export license—SL/EE/TRN/2024/002/1—to a company called Enterprise Power Zambia Limited, also known as En-Power. This company is operating illegally, according to records from the Patents and Companies Registration Agency (PACRA).

PACRA has flagged Enterprise Power Zambia Limited as non-compliant, having failed to disclose beneficial ownership, in direct violation of Sections 21 and 123 of the Companies Act. This is not just administrative negligence—it is criminal collusion. Who approved this company? Who are the faceless shareholders? Are they paying taxes? No. Are they known to Zambians? No. Are they politically connected? Most definitely.

En-Power is used as a conduit to export electricity to a sister company in the DRC, Enterprise Power SARL Limited (EPDRC). Since August 2023, Zambia has been exporting 50MW of power to DRC mines through this shadowy network of private profiteers. This power doesn’t benefit ZESCO or the average Zambian—it benefits private shareholders who operate in the dark, just like the rest of the country is kept in the dark.

ADDITIONAL SCANDALS: MORE POWER SHIPPED TO DRC WHILE ZAMBIANS SUFFER
In yet another scandal, the government has authorized the export of 120MW to DRC’s Petrodex LLC, as disclosed by ERB’s own Press Release dated 7th March 2025. Though ERB claimed only 30MW was being exported initially, it was made clear that the capacity would increase to 120MW as water levels rise—which they have. This means even more electricity is being sent abroad while local homes, schools, hospitals, welders, tailors, and small businesses crumble due to manufactured darkness.

PUBLIC WEALTH, PRIVATE PROFITS
It is sickening to see that while ZESCO, the national utility, is approaching bankruptcy, companies like Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) have become billion-dollar giants—because they buy cheap electricity from ZESCO and sell it at a premium to mines. This is economic sabotage, and Zambians are the victims.

THE POSITION OF EFF
As the Economic Freedom Fighters – EFF, we say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

We demand:

  1. An immediate halt to all electricity exports until power is restored to all Zambians.
  2. A full public inquiry into all power export contracts, including the role of ERB, PACRA, and State House.
  3. The prosecution and blacklisting of all illegally operating companies like Enterprise Power Zambia Limited.
  4. The immediate disclosure of all beneficial owners of companies involved in the power sector.

A PROMISE TO THE NATION

Upon election in 2026, the EFF will cancel all exploitative contracts that rob Zambians of their national wealth. We will return power—literally and economically—to the people. We will ensure that ZESCO, not private foreign-controlled entities, leads the charge in national electrification.

Zambia produces 1,080MW, which is more than our domestic demand. There is no justification for this nationwide darkness

Zambians, you are being lied to. You are being robbed. But we see through the lies, and we will fight for you.

Power to the People.

Wherever we want to go our feet will take us there.

Signed,

Kasonde Mwenda C
