South African govt  Investigates Edgar Lungu Poisoning Claims

⬆️ NEWS FLUSH | SA Investigates Lungu Poisoning Claims

A SOUTH AFRICAN pressure group has told the Sunday Times of Zambia that its government is investigating the death of Zambia’s sixth President, Edgar Lungu.

The probe follows claims by some Patriotic Front (PF) officials, members of the Tonse Alliance, and Lungu’s family that he was allegedly poisoned on South African soil.

Last week, the Progressive Forces of South Africa (PFSA) petitioned the South African Minister of Police to launch a criminal inquiry to clarify the circumstances and protect South Africa’s reputation.

PFSA president Mtheteto Ngcukayitobi told the Sunday Times from South Africa that the South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed the investigation had started in early August 2025 and is now about 90 percent complete.

He said the probe faces obstacles, as Lungu’s family allegedly instructed the hospital and a private mortuary not to release his medical records or grant access to his body, delaying progress.

“For two months, the hospital has not submitted Lungu’s records to SAPS officials,” Mr. Ngcukayitobi said, noting that ongoing litigation is also affecting the investigation.

Despite these challenges, he said PFSA is determined to ensure a thorough probe.

“We cannot have family members and PF Secretary Generals allege poisoning and then block the investigation. A proper inquiry must be conducted,” he said.

He added that PFSA plans to engage private entities involved to ensure compliance with South African law and expressed concern over conflicting statements from Lungu’s family and PF officials, which could undermine efforts to uncover the truth.

“DROP BILL 7 NOW!” – NJOBVU ACCUSES HH OF USING CONSTITUTION TO CLING TO POWER AS ZAMBIANS SUFFER IN DARKNESS!

“DROP BILL 7 NOW!” – NJOBVU ACCUSES HH OF USING CONSTITUTION TO CLING TO POWER AS ZAMBIANS SUFFER IN DARKNESS!

Democratic Union (DU) President Ackim Antony Njobvu has launched a fierce attack on President Hakainde Hichilema’s push for Bill 7, the controversial constitutional amendment that many fear could tilt the political landscape ahead of the 2026 elections.

Speaking in a hard-hitting statement, Njobvu questioned the true motive behind the President’s decision to reintroduce the Bill barely seven months before national polls, despite widespread public resistance.

“Why would anyone tamper with the Constitution this close to an election?” Njobvu asked. “It’s suspicious, undemocratic, and not people-driven.”

The DU leader accused the UPND administration of being tone-deaf to national suffering, saying the move exposes a government more interested in power than progress

“Families can’t afford food. The country is in darkness. Businesses are collapsing. Yet, this government wants to waste time and money on a controversial Bill that benefits no one but themselves,” he charged.

Njobvu said the Hichilema administration has failed to show empathy towards the daily struggles of citizens, pointing to the ongoing energy crisis, unemployment, and high cost of living as evidence of misplaced priorities.

“This arrogance and lack of tolerance for opposing views is shocking,” Njobvu said. “The people are crying for relief, not constitutional experiments.”

He further warned that Bill 7 is a political trap meant to secure the ruling party’s interests, not the nation’s future.

“Our Constitution is not a toy. It should not be rewritten every election cycle to suit politicians’ ambitions,” he said.

Njobvu has since called on Zambians to remain alert and question every move by the government, saying civic vigilance is the last line of defense against political manipulation.

“Fellow citizens, this is not the time for constitutional reform. This is the time to wake up. Let’s open our eyes and see through the deception. We have a chance in 2026 to end this nonsense,” he declared.

IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE IN EACH OTHER , WHY SHOULD WE BELIEVE IN YOU? SUSAN TEMBO QUESTIONS BINWELL AND KANGOMBE

IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE IN EACH OTHER , WHY SHOULD WE BELIEVE IN YOU? SUSAN TEMBO QUESTIONS BINWELL AND KANGOMBE

They play together but don’t believe in each other and can’t work together. They all want to be presidents. So why can’t Kangombe support Ichabaiche? Probably he knows the friend struggle with leadership skill. Why can’t Binwell support Kangombe’s Presidential bid? Probably know Kangombe does not remember his friends.

This is the reality on the ground, young people don’t support each other. Both Binwell and Kangombe were ready to support Edgar Lungu , but they could support each other. What is wrong with young people? What qualities did Binwell see in Edgar Lungu that he could see in Kangombe and vice versa?

Winning elections should not be about defeating the incumbent but being prepared to serve the people. Speaking English or using vulgar language has nothing to do with good leadership. If English was the measure of leadership , then Frederick would be the best President that Zambia has ever had.

When you are ready to serve, you put your ego aside. Even Michael Sata, after all the attacks on Levy Mwanawasa, humbled himself and said “I am sorry my brother” because politics is beyond personal hatred. We have young people and opposition leaders who are full of pride, They are seeking power not for service.

In conclusion, if we don’t trust each other in your circle of friendship, why should we trust you? They say if you want to know what happens underwater, ask the crocodile. You can’t ask a bird about sea life.

Madagascar Army Overthrows President Rajoelina Amid Nationwide Protests

⬆️ REGIONAL | Madagascar Army Overthrows President Rajoelina Amid Nationwide Protests

The Malagasy army has seized power in Madagascar, toppling the government of President Andry Rajoelina after weeks of public unrest over water and electricity shortages. The coup was led by Colonel Mickaël Randrianirina of the CAPSAT regiment (Corps d’Administration et des Services de l’Armée de Terre), who announced the move on national television early Saturday.

Colonel Randrianirina said the military acted “out of patriotism, not politics,” claiming the decision followed widespread appeals from citizens demanding leadership change.

“We did not wake up to fight but rather to answer the call of the people. This is not politics, but pure patriotism,” he said, adding that the army’s goal is to restore order and protect civilians.

The colonel accused the outgoing government of human rights abuses, including excessive force against protesters. He vowed to prevent further bloodshed and maintain military discipline while engaging in dialogue with civil society. “We are open for discussion. The discipline remains, but we are standing with the people,” he said.

Witnesses in Antananarivo reported heavy military presence across the capital following the announcement, with a nationwide curfew declared hours later. President Rajoelina is believed to have fled the capital, though his whereabouts remain unclear.

The coup follows weeks of demonstrations that began as protests over chronic power and water shortages before escalating into calls for the president’s resignation. The United Nations, African Union, and several foreign governments have expressed deep concern, urging calm and the restoration of constitutional order.

PAUL KABUSWE’S ATTACK AGAINST SC JOHN SANGWA

PAUL KABUSWE’S ATTACK AGAINST SC JOHN SANGWA

It is disappointing, though not surprising, that Paul Kabuswe has chosen to insult rather than engage with the ideas of State Counsel John Sangwa, a man whose courage, intellect, and consistency continue to shake the foundations of a failed political order.

When a government minister resorts to mocking accents instead of addressing substance, it is clear that he has run out of ideas. Kabuswe’s outburst is not a show of confidence  it is a confession of fear.

The UPND camp is trembling because John Sangwa represents something they have long abandoned  principled leadership, constitutional order, and accountability.

Let me remind Paul Kabuswe that Zambians are tired of career politicians who believe leadership is their birthright. The people are ready to rally behind men and women who speak truth to power, not those who insult their intelligence with arrogance and cheap political theatrics and boot leaking,  like you iwe Paul Kabuswe, insoni ebuntu.

Kabuswe himself understands the power of local support. His campaign in Chililabombwe was funded by hardworking businessmen and women who believed in him only for him to abandon them soon after taking office.

Yet today, he dares to belittle Zambians who wish to support a man of integrity. Kabuswe’s hypocrisy speaks louder than his words.

Zambians will fund SC John Sangwa not because they are wealthy, but because they are ready to reclaim their country from those who have sold its dignity for political survival.

This movement is not about money it is about restoring national pride, reviving justice, and putting the law above politics.

Kabuswe, instead of mocking accents, return to your constituency and deliver the development you promised. Because while you are busy insulting those who challenge your boss, the people of Chililabombwe are still suffering.

They do not have water  not just from their taps, but even from water bowsers, as if Chililabombwe has been turned into a refugee camp.

They are still waiting for decent jobs, especially from the very mines you boast about having reopened, and for proper roads, not the token projects done under corporate social responsibility by ZMAT.

ZMAT is reaping billions from our Kasumbalesa border post, yet mocking our people with a mere 10 kilometres of roadworks a shameful comparison to what they are extracting from our district.

The truth is simple SC John Sangwa does not need foreign funding to stand  he has the hearts and minds of the Zambian people. And that, Paul Kabuswe, is something no amount of money, noise, or arrogance can buy.

I even wonder where Paul Kabuswe is garnering the courage and audacity to talk about SC John Sangwa. It is quite evident that Sangwa has sent shivers through Community House and the UPND camp.

HH FULFILLS CHURCH PLEDGE WITH OVER K1 MILLION DONATION TO UCZ COPPERBELT

HH FULFILLS CHURCH PLEDGE WITH OVER K1 MILLION DONATION TO UCZ COPPERBELT

President Hakainde Hichilema has donated over one million kwacha to the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) on the Copperbelt to support the completion of various church projects in the province.

This contribution fulfills a pledge he made during his previous visit to the region.

The UCZ Kwacha East Congregation received an additional K500,000 towards the completion of its church project, along with K100,000 earmarked for the choir.

Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo announced that the President also donated K500,000 to the UCZ Mindolo Congregation to help carry out pending church projects.

Speaking during the confirmation of the fund transfers in Kitwe, Mr. Matambo also handed over K50,000 to the UCZ, a contribution jointly pledged by himself and Mines Minister Paul Kabuswe.

Meanwhile, Reverend Hopkins Changwe of the UCZ Kwacha East Congregation expressed gratitude to President Hichilema for honoring his commitment to the church.

Reverend Changwe reiterated that the United Church of Zambia remains non-partisan and will continue to uphold that stance.

He emphasized that politicizing donations made by the Head of State is inappropriate, as the church is a house of God and welcomes everyone regardless of political affiliation.

Reverend Changwe added that the UCZ, like any church, is obligated to respect those in leadership, including the Republican President.

Musonda urges Zambians to look beyond PF for redemption from alleged UPND misrule

Musonda urges Zambians to look beyond PF for redemption from alleged UPND misrule

By KENNETH LUTENA

Public affairs commentator, Dr. James Musonda, has urged Zambians seeking redemption from what he termed the United Party for National Development (UPND)’s alleged misrule to look beyond the Patriotic Front (PF), arguing that the former ruling party was reportedly rotten to the core.

Musonda claimed that the PF was “registered in the UPND’s names” through Mafinga Member of Parliament, Robert Chabinga, adding that the party still had an “unburied former president” and was “busy fighting amongst themselves for the presidency.”

“This shows that they are not ready to rule, they have never been and will never be. This is the chance for other parties to show up by raising their hands,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He added that, in its current form, the PF was “unrepentant,” with its only objective being to remove President Hakainde Hichilema from power, send him to jail, and release its incarcerated members.

“Nobody within PF is articulating what they will do for Zambia except pointing out UPND’s failures. While this is important, it is inadequate to bring about a change of government — that is a job you leave to Emmanuel Mwamba,” he said.

Musonda called on other political players to focus on articulating a clear vision for Zambia’s future, stressing that the country needed to move beyond both the PF and UPND.

“These two are the same,” he said.

KANCHIBIYA MP CALLS FOR URGENT ACTION AGAINST JUNKIES

KANCHIBIYA MP CALLS FOR URGENT ACTION AGAINST JUNKIES

Kanchibiya Member of Parliament, Sunday Chanda has called for swift action to curb escalating criminal attacks committed by drug-influenced individuals commonly referred to as junkies.

Mr. Chanda noted with sadness that innocent citizens have been killed, maimed and left traumatized while families are grieving, businesses are suffering and public safety is under siege.

Speaking to Chikuni Radio News, Mr. Chanda says such acts of terror should not be downplayed under the guise of unemployment or youthful delinquency.

He has since called on the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security and the Zambia Police Service to treat this situation with the urgency it deserves.

He has further implored fellow Parliamentarians to swiftly strengthen laws, ensure stiffer penalties and mandatory imprisonment for those found guilty of the violent, drug-related offences.

Mr. Chanda is of the view that convicts should have no option of a fine, probation or a suspended sentence so that the court would have no discretion to give a lighter punishment or alternative sentence.

GOVERNMENT COMMITS TO PAYING FARMERS BY OCTOBER MONTHEND AS MAIZE PURCHASES SURPASS TARGET BY OVER 100,000 METRIC TONS IN CENTRAL PROVINCE

GOVERNMENT COMMITS TO PAYING FARMERS BY OCTOBER MONTHEND AS MAIZE PURCHASES SURPASS TARGET BY OVER 100,000 METRIC TONS IN CENTRAL PROVINCE

Government is doing everything possible to ensure that farmers who supplied maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) are paid.

Speaking in Mkushi Saturday morning ahead of the colourful and cultural rich Ichibwelamushi Traditional Ceremony, Mr. Nzovu said government remains committed to encouraging farmers to increase production in a bid to meet the national target of 10 million metric tons (MT) of maize.

The Minister, who was in Mkushi District representing President Hakainde Hichilema at this year’s Ichibwelamushi Traditional Ceremony of the Swaka and Lala people of Kapiri Mposhi, Serenje, Luano, Chitambo, and Mkushi Districts, disclosed that the country has so far produced 4 million MT of maize.

He said this when he met Central Province Permanent Secretary, Dr Milner Mwanakampwe that government intends to secure enough maize stocks for national food security with any surplus being exported to boost the country’s revenue base.

“We want to secure enough for the country’s food security and hope to export the excess,” said Mr. Nzovu.

Mr. Nzovu also noted that the Ichibwelamushi Traditional Ceremony is gaining regional attention, with neighboring countries viewing such events as important platforms that unite people and promote cultural values.

Meanwhile Dr. Mwanakampwe revealed that government has so far procured 191,000 MT of maize, surpassing the provincial target of 80,000 MT by over 100,000 MT.

He added that 86 percent of the purchased maize has already been secured and expressed optimism that all farmers who supplied the grain will be paid by the end of October, as some have already received their payments.

Regarding the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP), Dr. Mwanakampwe said 22,000 out of 162,711 targeted farmers have already made their payments to access fertilizer and seed.

He further noted that five Swaka and Lala Chiefs from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) were in Mkushi for the Ichibwelamushi Traditional Ceremony — an annual festival that marks the people’s return to their villages after harvest.

The Swaka and Lala people traditionally camp in their fields from the time of cultivation until harvest season.

Betting Companies Suspend Operations, Protest 10% Exercise Duty on Betting Stakes

Betting Companies Suspend Operations, Protest 10% Exercise Duty on Betting Stakes

Betway and other betting companies temporarily suspended their operations in Zambia in October 2025 in response to a newly introduced 10% excise duty on betting stakes. The companies claimed the new tax made the business environment “financially unsustainable”.

The legal and financial challenge

Betting companies’ arguments: In October 2025, BetPawa and Betway filed a constitutional petition to stop the government from collecting the new excise duty. The companies argued the tax was “excessive, ambiguous, unimplementable, and financially unsustainable”.

They also cited a lack of transparency and consultation with the industry during the legislative process. The companies warned that the tax could force them out of business and lead to job losses.

Constitutional Court Dismisses BetPawa and Betway Challenge Against 10% Betting Excise Duty

By Masauso Mkwayaya

The Constitutional Court has dismissed an application by BetPawa and Betway, which sought to restrain the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) and the Attorney General from imposing and collecting the newly introduced 10% excise duty on betting stakes.

ZRA Corporate Communications Manager, Oliver Nzala, confirmed the development in a statement to ZNBC News. He explained that the two betting companies had petitioned the Court, arguing that Section 7 of the Customs and Excise Act of 2025—introducing the excise duty on betting services—was unconstitutional.

The companies cited alleged violations of Articles 8, 9, 10, 89, and 198 of the Constitution, claiming the law lacked transparency, adequate public consultation, and would have severe economic consequences.

Mr. Nzala stated that the petitioners described the tax as excessive, ambiguous, unimplementable, and financially unsustainable, warning that it could lead to business closures and job losses.

In response, ZRA maintained that the excise duty is a consumption tax borne by betting players—not operators—and that the law was enacted following stakeholder engagement. The Authority also argued that the companies’ financial projections were speculative and unsupported by audited data.

The petitioners had additionally sought an interim injunction to halt enforcement of the excise duty pending a full hearing, contending that the tax burden exceeded their gross gaming revenue, lacked clarity, and was introduced mid-financial year, making compliance impractical. They further argued that damages would not be an adequate remedy due to the scale of potential harm.

ZRA countered that the tax was lawful, implementable, and aligned with its constitutional mandate. It emphasized that suspending tax collection would undermine the widely accepted “pay now, argue later” principle—a cornerstone of tax administration globally.

The Court ruled that the petitioners failed to demonstrate a sufficiently serious constitutional issue to justify suspending the law at this stage.

MADAGASCAR PRESIDENCY SAYS ATTEMPT TO SEIZE POWER UNDER WAY

MADAGASCAR PRESIDENCY SAYS ATTEMPT TO SEIZE POWER UNDER WAY

BBC -The office of Madagascar’s President Andry Rajoelina has said an attempt to seize power illegally and unconstitutionally is under way in the country.

Hours later, an army unit known as CAPSAT claimed that it had taken over the leadership of the military command, and was now in control of all the armed forces – land, air, and naval.

This is the same unit that played a crucial role in the 2009 Malagasy political crisis, which helped Rajoelina rise to power.

Madagascar was first hit by protests on 25 September against water and power cuts, but they have escalated to reflect wider dissatisfaction with Rajoelina’s government over high unemployment, corruption, and the cost-of-living crisis.

Rajoelina’s statement said “there is an attempt to seize power at this time in the territory of the Republic, in complete violation of the Constitution and democratic principles,” in a translation.

He condemned “in the strongest possible terms” what he called an attempt to destabilise the country. He also called on all of the nation’s key forces to unite in defending the constitutional order and national sovereignty.

CAPSAT said it had appointed a new chief of staff, Gen Demosthene Pikulas, according to a statement issued on its Facebook page.

On Sunday morning, there were reports of a shoot-out at the CAPSAT camp after officials from the gendarmerie visited it for discussions. No further details have emerged of the incident.

On Saturday, some soldiers had left their barracks on the outskirts of the capital, Antananarivo, to join protesters in front of the city’s town hall.

CAPSAT had condemned the use of force by security forces in handling recent protests in Antananarivo.

On Saturday, a statement from the presidency had assured the nation that Rajoelina and the new prime minister – an army general he appointed last week – were in control of the situation.

DA calls for criminal  charges for Hangwani Maumela after SIU seizes luxury assets

DA calls for criminal  charges for Hangwani Maumela after SIU seizes luxury assets

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has demanded immediate criminal charges against businessman Hangwani Maumela following a Special Investigating Unit (SIU) raid at his Sandton mansion.

The operation uncovered luxury assets including three Lamborghinis, a Bentley, and valuable artwork allegedly purchased with proceeds from fraudulent contracts at Tembisa Hospital.

Maumela is implicated in a syndicate that allegedly siphoned over R820 million from the hospital through manipulated procurement processes. The investigation was initiated after whistleblower Babita Deokaran flagged suspicious contracts before her assassination in 2021. Her findings led to a broader probe by the SIU and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

The DA has welcomed the asset seizures but insists that they must lead to arrests and prosecutions. Health spokesperson Jack Bloom emphasized that the stolen funds should be recovered and redirected to restore basic healthcare infrastructure in Gauteng.

As investigations continue, the public and political pressure mounts for swift accountability in one of South Africa’s most significant healthcare corruption scandals.

MASKED THIEVES RAID CHALALA MALL, STEAL GOODS WORTH K456,500

LUSAKA

Five masked criminals carried out a daring early morning raid at AKZ Mall in Chalala yesterday, making away with assorted goods valued at K456,500.

Police reports indicate that the suspects broke into a shop owned by businesswoman Shula Beleshi, cutting through burglar bars before helping themselves to electronic items, including a safe, solar inverters, batteries, routers, and phone accessories.

Two of the robbers were reportedly armed, while another stood guard at the gate. The gang is believed to have escaped in a getaway vehicle, though its registration number has not yet been established.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed the incident, saying a specialized team has been deployed to track down the culprits. “We have since launched a manhunt for the suspects and are urging members of the public to report anyone found selling or in possession of the stolen goods,” Hamoonga said.

He also advised business owners to strengthen security measures, including hiring guards, installing alarm systems, and using solar lights for improved night-time visibility.

Investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information emerges.

Zimbabwe in debt distress, claims World Bank

Zimbabwe’s public debt has reached unsustainable levels, limiting the country’s access to international financing, the World Bank has warned in a new report.

The multilateral lender put Zimbabwe’s debt at US$23.3 billion, US$2.2 billion higher than Treasury’s declared figures. The IMF recently confirmed the same figure in its latest Article IV Consultation, casting doubt on the US$21 billion public debt reported by the Ministry of Finance in May.

“Zimbabwe continues to be in debt distress, with high and unsustainable public debt that limits its access to international financing,” the World Bank said. Total public debt reached 72.9% of GDP in 2024, with arrears owed to the World Bank, African Development Bank, and European Investment Bank.

Zimbabwe has been defaulting on international loans since 2000, following the controversial land reform programme under former President Robert Mugabe. Its largest Paris Club creditors — Germany, France, the UK, Japan, and the US — account for 74% of the country’s Paris Club debt, amounting to US$2.9 billion.

The World Bank highlighted that structural challenges — including macroeconomic volatility, reliance on low-productivity agriculture, climate shocks, and high inequality — have constrained poverty reduction.

Despite the challenges, the report noted opportunities for growth, citing Zimbabwe’s highly educated workforce, natural resource endowment, and recent economic policy advances.

Zimbabwe’s GDP grew just 1.7% in 2024, impacted by drought and low commodity prices. However, the IMF projects growth of 6.6% in 2025, supported by a strong agricultural season, record-high gold prices, and robust remittance inflows.

The World Bank cautioned that the recovery remains fragile, with fiscal risks, domestic arrears, weak foreign reserve buffers, and governance vulnerabilities posing ongoing challenges. It called on authorities to implement reforms to safeguard macroeconomic stability, strengthen public financial management, and improve monetary and foreign exchange frameworks.

Geza sparks chaos for Zanu-PF conference

Outspoken war veteran Blessed Geza has thrown Zanu-PF’s preparations for its annual conference in Mutare into disarray by calling for a “million men march” to oppose attempts to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term of office.

Geza warned Zimbabweans to reject any moves to “mutilate” the constitution, urging a street demonstration in Harare on Friday to block loyalists from extending Mnangagwa’s tenure. His announcement has sent jitters through the ruling party as it finalises logistics for the conference, which Defence Minister Oppah Muchunguri-Kashiri confirmed are in place.

Although Mnangagwa has repeatedly stated he has no interest in extending his term beyond 2028, his loyalists are reportedly pushing for a two-year extension to preempt the rise of his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga, widely seen as a front-runner for succession.

Controversial figures such as Temba Mliswa have suggested businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei, who recently bought 300 cars for central committee members, is Mnangagwa’s preferred successor, though Tagwirei has denied any presidential ambitions. Meanwhile, speculation surrounds Zanu-PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa, who is also rumoured to harbour presidential aspirations.

Ahead of the conference, Mnangagwa reshuffled the party’s Politburo, dropping Secretary General Obert Mpofu, reportedly a Chiwenga ally, and replacing him with Parliament Speaker Jacob Mudenda. Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi was appointed party legal secretary, while Patrick Chinamasa became treasurer general. Last week, party Director General Retired Brigadier General Ezekiel Zabanyana was also dismissed.

Political analyst Reason Wafawarova described the reshuffle and dismissals as a desperate attempt to consolidate Mnangagwa’s power, calling Zabanyana’s removal a “bureaucratic masterpiece in self-preservation” aimed at signalling loyalty over competence. “No one is too senior to be sacrificed,” Wafawarova said.

Geza, who was expelled from Zanu-PF earlier this year after openly calling for Mnangagwa’s ouster, has a history of mobilising protests. In March, he disrupted city activities by calling for demonstrations against the president, citing corruption and misgovernance as key grievances.

The coming days are likely to test both Zanu-PF’s internal cohesion and public sentiment, as the party convenes its annual conference amid rising tension over succession and governance issues.

Chinese Ambassador Sparks Outrage With Statement On Zimbabwe Worker Shot Dead

Chinese Ambassador Slammed Over Statement On Zimbabwe Mine Death
A storm of anger has erupted after Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding shared a company statement about the shooting death of a Zimbabwean man at a mine in Mutoko. The post, made on 10 October 2025, drew sharp criticism for repeatedly referring to the deceased as a “gangster” while a police investigation is still underway. The statement, issued by China Zhuhe Mining, has been described as insensitive and premature by many Zimbabweans, sparking widespread calls for transparency and justice.

The Statement From China Zhuhe Mining
Ambassador Zhou posted the mining company’s account of the incident on his official X account, writing:

“A statement by the Chinese company involved. FYI. @advocatemahere. The final conclusion must come from the Police.”

According to the statement released by China Zhuhe Mining, the incident unfolded on 9 October 2025 at around 00:33 a.m. when a group allegedly attempted to rob the gold mine in Mutoko.

“A group of gangsters climbed over the courtyard wall of the gold mine owned by China Zhuhe Mining in Mutoko, Zimbabwe, in an attempt to commit robbery,” the company declared.

The statement claimed that an on-duty Chinese engineer, “armed with a legally registered security firearm for mining operations,” responded by firing several warning shots into the air. The suspects then fled into the night.

Later that morning, at around 7:00 a.m., local workers discovered an injured man roughly one kilometre from the mine site.

“Upon questioning, the latter admitted to being injured during the robbery and abandoned at the scene by his accomplices. Mr. Zilu [the translator] arranged to report the case to the police, but unfortunately, the gangster had already passed away when the police arrived,” the statement said.

The company added that villagers who came across the man’s body mistakenly suspected misconduct by Chinese employees and briefly surrounded them, but police intervened quickly to defuse the situation.

China Zhuhe Mining said the Chinese engineer involved in the incident is “actively cooperating with the police investigation and awaiting the police’s final handling decision.”

The official document was signed and dated 10 October 2025.

Public Figures Challenge The Ambassador
The Ambassador’s decision to post the company’s account was met with immediate criticism from public figures, human rights advocates, and social commentators.

Advocate Fadzayi Mahere, addressing Zhou directly on 10 October 2025, wrote:

“Dear @China_Amb_Zim, Your Excellency, are you aware of this incident? Is the Embassy watching what’s happening presently in the affected community? What’s your official position on it? We need new leaders.”

In a follow-up, Mahere demanded accountability and clarity:

“The company’s statement leaves more questions than answers. If only warning shots were fired into the air as alleged, how was a person killed? Why did the company officials take the law into their own hands instead of calling @PoliceZimbabwe? Zimbabwean lives matter.”

She went further to highlight contradictions in the timeline of events:

“Why were the police not called for a good seven hours, yet the company officers knew they’d fired shots at people whom they now label as ‘robbers’ and ‘gangsters’? Is there any regret for the needless loss of life? Why are early Police reports suggesting the murder victim was a worker as opposed to a ‘gangster’ as curiously alleged by the company?”

Her statements, widely shared on X, amplified the backlash already gaining momentum across Zimbabwe.

Outrage From Zimbabweans
The wording of the mining company’s statement — and the Ambassador’s public sharing of it — triggered outrage among Zimbabweans. Many saw the use of the word “gangster” as dehumanising and premature given that the investigation by the Zimbabwe Republic Police is ongoing.

Social commentator Chenayi Mutambasere said:

“Ambassador @China_Amb_Zim — with due respect, your comment is highly inappropriate while a police investigation is still underway. It gives the impression that you’ve already endorsed the mining company’s version of events before facts are independently verified. A responsible statement from a diplomat should condemn the loss of life and call for full transparency and cooperation with law enforcement, not attempt to predetermine the outcome.”

Another user, @MinisterMM23, raised concerns about ownership of Zimbabwe’s mineral wealth:

“How is it that Chinese companies own mines in our own country, while we, the locals, see nothing from the returns? How can you call the deceased a gangster — is that really how you see all Zimbabweans? Mining in our land, taking our resources, and yet you label us as gangsters? Really?”

User @McDonald expressed anger at the terminology:

“Gangster? Throwing around the word gangster in reference to the deceased so as to dehumanise him? No sympathy or regrets for the needless loss of a life whatsoever?”

Similarly, academic and political analyst Dr Chipo Dendere added:

“Repeatedly calling him a gangster doesn’t make him any less human. A human being was murdered. Where is the apology?”

Criticism continued to mount online. User @kudzani_ndlovu argued:

“That the ambassador sees it fit to share this derogatory statement should tell you everything about how the Chinese view us. The company and the ambassador have concluded that the shooter is innocent even though police are still investigating the incident.”

Some questioned the technical inconsistencies in the company’s narrative. User @jena1905 asked:

“Warning shots are fired into the air, how could a bullet have hit anyone? Unless he was flying? If the suspects fled upon firing ‘warning shots’, what was the purpose of using force to stop them?”

Others demanded to know why the police were not immediately notified. User @T_Chakoroma said:

“Already labelling him gangster whilst the matter is under investigation. Are you saying several warning shots at around 00:33 are the ones that injured him? Were they warning shots or direct shots? Why didn’t they report to police that same night before discovering one victim?”

The outrage extended to questions of sovereignty and dignity. User @Chamosimba wrote:

“Calling a Zimbabwean a gangster in his own country is pure disrespect. No foreigner has the right to judge our citizens in their homeland. Such arrogance and racism have no place in Zimbabwe. We demand respect for our people and our nation.”

The phrase “Zimbabwean lives matter” trended widely as citizens demanded accountability and an independent investigation into the events in Mutoko.

Shock As Two Women, Teen Arrested For Stock Theft, Caught Skinning Cattle

0

Extremely Rare Case: Women Arrested For Zimbabwe Cattle Rustling
A stunning scene unfolded in a quiet village this week as police arrested two women and a teenage boy for the brazen theft of cattle. According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the trio was allegedly caught in the act, skinning beasts they had just slaughtered. The involvement of women in such a serious agricultural crime has been described as exceptionally rare.

The suspects were identified as Prisca Sithole (34), Cathrine Sibanda (29), and a 16-year-old male. Their alleged participation challenges the typical profile of stock theft offenders.

Grisly Discovery In Mboma Village
The incident took place on 9 October 2025 in Mboma Village, Lower Gweru. Police rushed to the scene after receiving a tip-off and found a disturbing sight.

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the evidence was overwhelming:

“ZRP Maboleni arrested Prisca Sithole (34), Cathrine Sibanda (29) and a 16-year-old boy… The suspects, along with three others still at large, allegedly stole five cattle and were caught while skinning two. Three live cattle, two carcasses, two buckets of offal and the getaway vehicle, a black Honda Fit, were recovered at the scene.”

Severe Legal Consequences
The suspects now face the severe consequences of Zimbabwe’s stock theft laws, which make no distinction based on gender. The legal framework for this crime is notoriously strict, especially when it involves cattle.

The Criminal Law Code stipulates a mandatory minimum sentence for such offences. For the theft of cattle under the circumstances described by police, the law is clear:

“If the stock theft involved any bovine or equine animal stolen in the circumstances described in paragraph (a) or (b)… [the offender is liable] to imprisonment for a period of not less than nine years or more than twenty-five years.”

This means that if convicted, the accused could face a prison term of no less than nine years, with limited options for suspending the sentence.

Accomplices Still At Large
Police confirmed that three other suspects are on the run. The presence of a getaway car suggests organised planning.

Zimbabwe Plans Sole Use Of Local Currency By 2030

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has declared that the country is on a deliberate path to ditch its multi-currency system and adopt the local currency as its sole legal tender by 2030. The central bank’s Governor, Dr John Mushayavanhu, has stated that current economic conditions provide a fertile ground for this historic transition, aiming for full “mono-currency” status by 2030.

This move is seen as crucial for Zimbabwe to reclaim its monetary sovereignty, a power it lost in 2009 when the US dollar and other foreign currencies were adopted following the collapse of the local dollar. The shift promises to hand greater control over domestic monetary policy back to authorities and ensure that the fruits of economic growth directly fortify the local economy.

Zimbabwe Plans Sole Use Of Local Currency By 2030
Governor Mushayavanhu was keen to emphasise that this is not a rushed process, but a carefully calibrated strategy designed to preserve the nation’s hard-won macroeconomic stability. He outlined that the country is currently in an “adjustment phase” following the introduction of the ZiG in April 2024.

He stated,

“The transition process to mono-currency requires a cautious and gradual approach in the implementation of appropriate monetary and fiscal policies to create the desired conditions precedent.” The Governor added, “When the desired fundamentals are in place, the road to mono-currency will be market-driven.”

This cautious optimism is backed by several key indicators. Inflation has been tamed, averaging a remarkably low 0.5 percent per month this year. Furthermore, the gap between the official and parallel market exchange rates has significantly narrowed, signalling greater currency stability. Perhaps most importantly, the nation’s foreign currency reserves have seen a dramatic surge, climbing from a paltry 0.4 months of import cover to 1.2 months by the end of last month.

Building a Fortress of Economic Stability
A cornerstone of this ambitious plan is the relentless accumulation of foreign reserves, which act as a buffer against economic shocks. The central bank has been strategically building this war chest to underpin the long-term value of the ZiG.

Dr Mushayavanhu revealed,

“As a result, gross foreign reserves have risen steadily to over US$900 million (approx. R16.8 billion), representing about 1.1 months of import cover on the back of record tobacco, gold output and other mineral exports.” He confirmed that the strategy is to build these reserves to a robust three to six months of import cover in the short to medium term, a level considered “critical to promote durable ZiG stability.”

Confidence in the banking sector itself is also holding strong, with non-performing loans recorded at just 2.9 percent, a figure that sits comfortably below the international safety benchmark of 5 percent.

Public Confidence In The ZiG Rises
For any currency to succeed, it must be trusted by the people who use it. The RBZ has therefore prioritised transparency and consistent policy to win over the public. The efforts appear to be bearing significant fruit. The central bank’s own research points to a dramatic shift in sentiment.

The Governor announced that results from the RBZ’s latest “ZiG Perception and Confidence Survey II” show a marked rise in public acceptance of the currency from 40 percent in June 2024 to over 90 percent by September 2025. This growing trust is reflected in everyday transactions, with the share of ZiG payments on the National Payment System skyrocketing from 26 percent at its launch to a peak of 43 percent in May 2025. With monetary authorities pledging to remain vigilant against emerging risks, the journey towards a singular Zimbabwean currency seems to be gathering undeniable momentum.

SARS confirms Lucky Montana owes over R55 million in taxes

SARS confirms Lucky Montana owes over R55 million in taxes

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has confirmed that former Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) CEO and current Member of Parliament Lucky Montana owes more than R55 million in outstanding taxes.

According to SARS, the total debt amounting to R55,133,282.94 includes tax, penalties, and interest accumulated between 2009 and 2019.

The revenue service said the debt stems from Montana’s alleged under-declaration of income, failure to submit returns for some years, and unexplained deposits not linked to employment income.

Montana, however, has accused SARS of fraud, claiming the agency “doctored” a court judgment to justify its actions against him. He insists the matter is politically motivated and has filed legal action to challenge what he calls a “fake judgment.”

SARS has strongly denied the allegations, describing Montana’s claims as “false and vexatious.” The agency said it followed due legal process and warned that it could publicly disclose his tax information under section 67(5) of the Tax Administration Act to correct misinformation.

In August, Montana offered R5.4 million as a compromise settlement, but SARS said such offers can only be considered if the taxpayer acknowledges the debt. The revenue service is reportedly pursuing sequestration proceedings and the attachment of Montana’s assets to recover the outstanding amount.

The dispute has reignited debate over tax enforcement and accountability for high-profile public figures, with SARS reaffirming that “no one is above the law.”

EFF demands state protection for witnesses in DJ Sumbody murder case

EFF demands state protection for witnesses in DJ Sumbody murder case

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have called for the immediate placement of all witnesses and whistle-blowers in the DJ Sumbody murder case under state protection, warning that their lives are in danger following the release of alleged mastermind Katiso “KT” Molefe on bail.

Molefe, a Sandton businessman, faces charges linked to the murders of popular musician DJ Sumbody (Oupa John Sefoka) and his two bodyguards, who were gunned down in Woodmead in November 2022. He is also implicated in the killing of DJ Vintos (Hector Buthelezi) in Orlando East the same year.

The Johannesburg High Court granted Molefe bail of R400,000 on 10 October 2025, under strict conditions that include surrendering his passport, reporting to police three times a week, and avoiding contact with state witnesses. However, the EFF says the decision undermines public confidence in the justice system and places critical witnesses at risk.

EFF spokesperson Sinawo Thambo said the party is alarmed by Molefe’s release, insisting that the State must “act decisively to protect those brave enough to come forward.” The party further argued that allowing someone accused of leading a violent criminal network to walk free while witnesses remain exposed is a “recipe for witness intimidation and obstruction of justice.”

The State has previously described Molefe as a dangerous individual with “no regard for human life,” alleging that he leads an organised crime ring linked to multiple killings. Investigators have also warned that some witnesses have already expressed fear for their safety.

The EFF’s intervention comes amid growing concern about South Africa’s ability to safeguard witnesses in high-profile criminal cases, a persistent issue that has seen key testimonies lost due to intimidation and assassinations in recent years.

Travis Scott joins elite list of global stars to fill up FNB Stadium

Travis Scott joins elite list of global stars to fill up FNB Stadium

American rapper Travis Scott has officially joined the ranks of global superstars who have managed to fill up Johannesburg’s iconic FNB Stadium, delivering a sold-out performance last night, 11 October 2025 as part of his Circus Maximus World Tour.

The high-energy show drew tens of thousands of fans, reaffirming the venue’s status as Africa’s largest live entertainment arena.

Scott’s show follows in the footsteps of Chris Brown, who made history in December 2024 by selling out FNB Stadium two nights in a row during his Under the Influence Tour.

The back-to-back sellouts stunned the local entertainment industry, setting a new benchmark for international acts performing in South Africa.

While both American artists have proven their massive drawing power in the country, their success has also reignited debate about whether local performers can still command crowds of the same scale. Apart from Cassper Nyovest who managed to pack FNB Stadium, a venue with a capacity of nearly 95,000.

Despite a rain delay and heavy traffic around Nasrec, Travis Scott’s performance drew praise for its stage production, pyrotechnics, and raw intensity. Fans braved the weather, turning the concert into one of Johannesburg’s most talked-about nights of the year.

“Filling up FNB Stadium isn’t just about fame, it’s about logistics, timing, and a fanbase willing to show up in massive numbers,” said one industry insider. “Travis did it. Chris did it. And Cassper proved it can be done locally too.”

American woman sparks debate after saying people with HIV and incurable STDs should be listed in a national database

An American woman has stirred serious conversation online after calling for a national database that would make it possible to check if someone is HIV positive before dating or getting intimate with them.

In a viral video, the lady questioned why people with incurable sexually transmitted diseases like HIV or herpes aren’t automatically registered in a public system — the same way sex offenders are.

She said it doesn’t make sense that people can search for sex offenders in their neighbourhood, but there’s no way to confirm if a potential partner is carrying an incurable disease.

“If you’ve tested positive for HIV or herpes, the doctor should be required to put your name in a national database,” she said.

“Why are we relying on people to be honest about it? That’s why there are 20,000 new HIV cases in Atlanta — people are not telling their partners.”

She went on to say many people don’t even get tested, and those who know they’re positive often keep it to themselves — spreading the infection to others.

“It’s not fair. The government needs to take it more seriously,” she added.

“Doctors should automatically register anyone who tests positive because HIV is incurable. That way, people can check before getting involved.”

MIT rejects White House offer of funding for supporting Trump’s agenda

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has become the first U.S. university to formally reject a federal funding offer from the White House after refusing to align with President Donald Trump’s conservative education agenda, marking a major escalation in the growing standoff between American higher education and the Trump administration.

The proposal, sent to nine major universities earlier in October, demanded that institutions stop considering race, gender, ethnicity, or similar factors in admissions and hiring if they wished to continue receiving federal research and education funding. It also required universities to ensure their campuses were “friendly to conservative ideas.”

In a strongly worded letter to U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon, MIT President Sally Kornbluth said the institute “cannot in good conscience” accept the terms of the proposal.

“The government’s document includes principles with which we disagree, including those that would restrict freedom of expression and our independence as an institution,” Kornbluth wrote.

She continued “Fundamentally, the premise of the document is inconsistent with our core belief that scientific funding should be based on scientific merit alone.”

The rejected offer, according to White House documents, would have required universities to “transform or abolish institutional units that purposefully punish, belittle, or spark violence against conservative ideas.”

In addition to MIT, the letter was also sent to the University of Arizona, University of Pennsylvania, University of Southern California, University of Texas, University of Virginia, Brown University, Dartmouth College, and Vanderbilt University. None of the other eight institutions have yet responded, with replies expected by October 20.

President Trump’s administration has waged an aggressive campaign against elite U.S. universities, accusing them of liberal bias, censorship, and anti-conservative discrimination. Federal officials have warned that schools refusing to “restore ideological balance” risk losing billions in public research grants.

Trump’s broader push has included legal and financial pressure on universities such as Harvard and Columbia. In one high-profile clash, Trump’s Department of Education froze $2.6 billion in federal funds for Harvard, citing alleged antisemitism and ideological bias. However, a Boston judge later ruled the freeze unlawful, saying the administration had “used antisemitism as a smokescreen for a targeted, ideologically motivated assault on this country’s premier universities.”

MIT’s firm refusal now positions it as the first elite institution to publicly defy the White House’s education directive. Kornbluth noted that while MIT already meets “many standards outlined in the government’s document,” the university will “not compromise academic independence or freedom of inquiry.”

The Trump administration’s campaign has seen mixed results, with some universities, such as Columbia, reportedly agreeing to new restrictions on diversity policies in exchange for continued federal support. Columbia recently agreed to pay $200 million and pledged to end race-based considerations in admissions and hiring, while the University of Pennsylvania announced it would ban transgender women from women’s sports after similar negotiations.

Trump admin fires more than 4,000 workers due to ongoing govt shutdown

0

The Trump administration has begun laying off thousands of federal workers in an effort to pressure Democrats amid the ongoing government shutdown down due to the inability of Congress to reach a funding deal.

“The RIFs have begun,” White House Office of Management Director Russell Vought announced in a post on X , referring to an acronym for “reductions in force”.

A spokesman for his office confirmed the cuts had started and were “substantial”. Their size and scope began coming into focus later on Friday, when the administration disclosed seven agencies had started laying off more than 4,000 workers.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to use the shutdown to further his long-held goal of reducing the federal workforce.

On Friday night, a senior administration official told NBC News “those RIFs are a snapshot in time and represent only where things were at the time of the court filing,” suggesting the situation remains fluid.

Reduction-in-force notices are being sent to federal workers across seven departments, with the Treasury Department and Department of Health and Human Services being the hardest hit and accounting for more than half of the total layoffs, according to a new Justice Department filing.

The court filing is in response to a lawsuit over the shutdown layoffs from the American Federation of Government Employees and the AFL-CIO.

Other affected agencies include the departments of Homeland Security, Education, Energy, Housing and Urban Development and the Environmental Protection Agency.

On Friday, notices were issued to an estimated 315 employees at the Commerce Department, 466 at the Education Department, and 187 at the Energy Department.

Roughly 1,100 to 1,200 employees at Health and Human Services were sent notices, in addition to 176 DHS employees and 1,446 workers at the Treasury.

An estimated 20-30 EPA employees were sent general notices Friday saying they may be affected by reductions in force in the future.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, an arm of the Commerce Department, also previously sent notices to 126 employees when the government shut down on Oct. 1.

Democrats are pushing back on the layoffs, saying that a shutdown does not require President Donald Trump to fire workers or give him new powers to do so, arguing the White House is being vindictive.

A DHS spokesperson said that the layoffs at the department were occurring within the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, which has been a major target of Trump’s since its then-director affirmed that he lost the 2020 election to President Joe Biden. “During the last administration, CISA was focused on censorship, branding,

and electioneering,” the DHS spokesperson said. “This is part of getting CISA back on mission.”

HHS spokesman Andrew Nixon said the cuts at that department were focused on countering a “bloated bureaucracy” created under the Biden administration, adding: “HHS continues to close wasteful and duplicative entities, including those that are at odds with the Trump administration’s Make America Healthy Again agenda.”

AFSCME President Lee Saunders said the “mass firings are illegal” and will hurt families, vowing to “pursue every available legal avenue to stop” the administration’s action.

Federal employee unions had already sued the Trump administration over OMB’s threat to trigger mass firings of federal workers before the shutdown even began on Oct. 1. Plaintiffs in that ongoing lawsuit filed a supplementary motion on Friday asking for an immediate temporary restraining order preventing the OMB from ordering agencies to conduct reductions in force. It cited Vought’s post on X declaring that “The RIFs have begun.”

VIDEO: “I incite you to take over power by force, go to the cells…”- Nakachinda tells PF Faction leaders

PF RISES WITH UNSTOPPABLE SPIRIT, NAKACHINDA URGES UNITY AHEAD OF 2026

By Sam Zulu

In a stirring address to party structures in Kafue District, Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General Raphael Nakachinda called on members to hold fast to the party’s core ideology and resist external pressures as the PF emerges with what he described as an “unstoppable reincarnated spirit.”

Speaking with conviction, Nakachinda rallied the party faithful to remain steadfast in their commitment to PF’s vision, warning against attempts by the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) to undermine the opposition’s cohesion.

“All party structures across the country must not allow themselves to be cannibalized by the UPND,” Nakachinda declared. “Hold firm to the PF’s principles and stay focused on our collective goal—success in 2026.”

His remarks underscored the party’s determination to reclaim political dominance in the upcoming general elections, emphasizing resilience and unity as cornerstones of their strategy.

Nakachinda also issued a pointed warning to PF presidential aspirants, urging them to set aside personal ambitions and divisive tendencies. “Manage your ego and leadership desperation,” he cautioned, stressing that internal unity is critical to the party’s resurgence.

His call for discipline and collective purpose signals a strategic effort to consolidate the PF’s ranks and present a united front ahead of the fiercely contested 2026 polls.

The event, held in Kafue, was attended by key PF figures, including National Mobilization Chairman Greyford Monde and National Security Chairman Steven Chungu, reinforcing the party’s organizational strength and commitment to grassroots mobilization.

As the PF galvanizes its base, Nakachinda’s message of ideological fidelity and unified resolve sets the tone for a reinvigorated campaign to reclaim power.

With the political landscape heating up, the PF’s renewed vigor and Nakachinda’s clarion call for unity position the party as a formidable contender, determined to harness its “reincarnated spirit” to shape Zambia’s future.

SILAVWE JACKSON BACKS SANGWA’S CITIZEN-FUNDED PRESIDENTIAL BID

SILAVWE JACKSON BACKS SANGWA’S CITIZEN-FUNDED PRESIDENTIAL BID

Golden Party of Zambia (GPZ) President Silavwe Jackson has expressed admiration for State Counsel John Sangwa’s proposal to fund his 2026 presidential campaign through citizen contributions, describing it as a bold and revolutionary move that could reshape Zambia’s political culture.

According to Sangwa’s plan, one million Zambians would each contribute K100 towards his campaign—an approach he believes would ensure accountability and people-driven politics.

Silavwe noted that current projections place the minimum budget for a successful general election bid in Zambia at about USD 30 million, while credible sources suggest that President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND have already raised approximately USD 50 million in preparation for the 2026 polls.

“It is the deepest wish of every well-meaning political leader to be funded by fellow Zambians,” Silavwe said. “Unfortunately, our people have been conditioned to expect handouts instead of supporting leaders who wish to serve them.”

He lamented that Zambia’s political system has become “rotten”, with voters expecting financial incentives from politicians even during basic party mobilization efforts. “Zambians expect politicians to give them money. It is a broken culture that must be fixed if we are to see genuine leadership emerge,” he added.

Silavwe further noted that both past and present ruling parties have historically relied on external funding, often from foreign corporations with vested interests. He cited a report presented in the UK Parliament, which alleged that the UPND, while in opposition, received support from a multinational mining corporation operating in Zambia.

He emphasized that if Sangwa succeeds in mobilizing citizens to fund his campaign, it would mark a turning point in Zambia’s political history.

“If State Counsel Sangwa manages to change the mindset of our people and gets them to invest in his vision, he could very well become the next President of our Republic,” Silavwe said. “That would truly revolutionize Zambian politics forever.

SILAVWE JACKSON writes:

‎State Counsel John Sangwa advanced an interesting theory regarding his Zambian 2026 Presidential bid.

‎Zambians should fund his political campaign by having 1 million individuals contribute K100 each.

‎According to our calculations, the lower limit budget for a successful Zambian General Elections bid is at USD 30 million.

Well placed sources have indicated that President Hichilema and UPND have already raised $50 million dollars or almost for the 2026 General Elections.

‎It is the deepest wish of every well meaning political leader on the political scene currently to be funded by fellow Zambians.

‎The problem is that Zambians don’t just give, even party members meeting or beating people in your name, don’t just give money to a political party.

Zambians expect politicians to give them money. It is a rotten system.

‎All past and present ruling parties in Zambia have all been aided by external foreign funders.

‎A report presented in the UK Parliament found that President Hichilema and UPND in opposition were funded by a mining multi-national corporation (MNC) mining in Zambia.

‎It will be interesting to see how SC Sangwa manages to change the mindset of our people.

‎If SC Sangwa manages, he is definitely the next President of our Republic and could revolutionalise our politics forever.

‎All the best SC Sangwa!

I will relaunch my Southern Province  Strategy in December – UPND Cadre George N Mtonga

Below is what George N Mtonga posted…..

I have been observing alot that i have been in this country. And im encouraging our comrades in UPND who have always desired nothing from the party and the president to reestablish the same lines of defense that we had in 2021.

Remember, i launched what was called the SOUTHERN STRATEGY with the aim of getting more than 90% of the votes in the province and we managed to get what we wanted. WE FINANCED it ourselves and pushed.

Im asking that by December to re-establish the same channels of operations that we had. Eventually the opposition will organize and we must make sure we ready to match them everywhere and control the narrative our governments achievement. MISINFORMATION is what they will ride on.

I will be reaching out to many of you so that we can relaunch our structures!!

WE MUST DEPLOY at ward level. I will need access to the same machinery we built in last elections to handle the 2026 election.

AT THIS POINT NO ONE SHOULD BE TALKING ABOUT ANYTHING IN OUR PARTY OTHER THAN WINNING THE ELECTION. THE FOCUS SHOULD JUST BE ON THAT!!!

HAKAINDE HICHILEMA ESCAPED DEATH IN CHINGOLA

HAKAINDE HICHILEMA ESCAPED DEATH IN CHINGOLA.

It was during the difficult days of the PF government when fear ruled the streets and courage was rare.In the mining town of Chingola, Hakainde Hichilema now the President of Zambia escaped death by inches. A police officer had fired a bullet on HH vehicle near the Civic Centre, forcing him to flee for his life.

When no one dared to offer him shelter, one brave woman stepped forward Mrs. Mushimbwa Gardner a respected lodge owner known for her kindness and strong spirit. Despite the danger, she opened her doors and said the words that would be remembered forever:

Bring him to my lodge. If he is to die, we die together.

For three tense days, Mrs. Gardner hid HH at her lodge, refusing to bow to fear.Thousands of UPND youths and community members surrounded the building, determined to protect both their leader and the woman who risked everything for him.

Mrs. Gardner knew she could lose her business or even her life but she didn’t hesitate. Her only dream was to see Hakainde Hichilema one day walk through the gates of State House.

Today, she is remembered as the Iron Lady of Chingola a woman whose courage, loyalty, and sacrifice helped shape history,

We’re requesting the Chingola Municipal Council through the able leadership of Johnson M Kang’ombe – Chingola Mayor to also honour her as a freewoman of Chingola like they did to Mr Mwee.

UNIP URGES ZAMBIANS TO SHUN TRIBAL POLITICS

UNIP URGES ZAMBIANS TO SHUN TRIBAL POLITICS

THE United National Independence Party (UNIP) has called on Zambians to move away from tribal talk, describing it as divisive and detrimental to national unity.

UNIP Political Bureau Chairman, Mubanga Chileshe, expressed concern that some politicians have resorted to using tribal rhetoric as a means to remain politically relevant.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Chileshe said the party’s founding father, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, had already set the foundation for unity through the “One Zambia, One Nation” slogan.

“It is unfortunate that in 2025, the country is still grappling with issues of tribalism,” said Mr. Chileshe.

He has since urged Zambians to desist from supporting or engaging in political activities that promote tribal divisions, emphasizing the need to uphold peace and unity in the nation.

Police have since confirmed opening investigations into the matter.

According to sources, FAZ expected revenue of a little over K3 million from the capacity crowd of about 50000 spectators that watched the match.

Records from CompuTicket show that FAZ only raised about K1.2 million.

On the day of the match, two people were apprehended after being found with stashes of booklets of tickets that were not obtained through any normal channel.

The booklets are allegedly part of a syndicate in which tickets are dispatched onto the black market and revenue from the sales do not accrue to the association.

Some FAZ officials who were manning the gates during the Morocco match have also been interviewed by the police.

The matter is being handled by Twapia Police in Ndola where the CIO Arbacon Hikabali has confirmed receiving a report.

In a telephone interview, CIO Hikabali has confirmed recording a ticket fraud case but did not disclose any further information.

He said more details will be availed next week by Wednesday.

The CIO says so far, the police has recorded statements from four people.

Asked about the details of the case, Hikabali says these will be availed during an in person interview on Wednesday.

POLICE OFFICER FATALLY SHOT BY FELLOW OFFICER IN SUSPECTED MISTAKEN IDENTITY INCIDENT IN SHIWANGANDU

POLICE OFFICER FATALLY SHOT BY FELLOW OFFICER IN SUSPECTED MISTAKEN IDENTITY INCIDENT IN SHIWANGANDU

An identified police officer Raymond Mubita, has died after being shot by a fellow officer in what sources suggest may have been a case of mistaken identity while both were responding to a reported theft incident.

The shooting occurred in Shiwang’andu District as the two officers were reportedly and separately en route to a location where they had received reports of a suspected theft.

The deceased officer, who was in full police uniform at the time, was shot three times.

While official details remain scarce, preliminary information suggests that the shooting may have stemmed from  misidentification during the operation.

Police authorities have been contacted for comment but have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

Chete FM has also reached out to Shiwang’andu District Commissioner Maureen Bwembya, who has confirmed receiving a report of the incident.

However, she was unable to provide further comment as she was accompanying a Cabinet Minister currently visiting her district.

CLARIFICATION ON ALLEGATIONS BY HON. WYNTER KABIMBA, SC, ODS REGARDING ACCESS TO LUSAKA CENTRAL CORRECTIONAL CENTRE (CHIMBOKAILA)

PRESS STATEMENT.                                                                                                                                                   FOR  IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CLARIFICATION ON ALLEGATIONS BY HON. WYNTER KABIMBA, SC, ODS REGARDING ACCESS TO LUSAKA CENTRAL CORRECTIONAL CENTRE (CHIMBOKAILA)

The Zambia Correctional Service (ZCS) has taken note of the statement attributed to Hon. Wynter Kabimba, SC, ODS concerning his recent experience at Lusaka Central Correctional Centre (commonly known as Chimbokaila) on Tuesday, 7th October, 2025.

At the outset, the Service wishes to acknowledge the concerns raised by Hon. Kabimba. While we recognize his right to express dissatisfaction, it is important to provide context and clarity to ensure that the public is correctly informed.

Prisons and Correctional Centres are highly regulated security institutions. Access to these facilities, particularly for persons intending to communicate with inmates, is subject to identification and verification protocols. These procedures are designed to safeguard the welfare of both inmates and the public while maintaining the integrity of the correctional system.

In recent years, the Service has recorded instances of fraud and misrepresentation, where individuals have gained access to inmates under the guise of being legal practitioners or family members, resulting in cases of inmates being defrauded. In response, the Service introduced additional verification measures requiring all legal counsel to present identification or introductory documentation from their respective law firms.

It should also be noted that the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has, on an annual basis, provided the Zambia Correctional Service with an updated list of registered practitioners and their designated law firms. Furthermore, LAZ issues identification cards to all bona fide members for ease of verification and access to correctional facilities.

The Service, therefore, categorically states that the officer on duty acted within established security procedures and that there was no deliberate attempt to frustrate or impede Hon. Kabimba’s work as legal counsel. The decision to request an introductory letter was in line with standing security guidelines and standard operating procedures applicable to all legal practitioners, without exception.

Regarding Hon. Kabimba’s concerns about client-lawyer confidentiality, the Service continues to provide reasonable facilities within the constraints of its infrastructure. Nonetheless, we remain committed to improving conditions to align with best practices and uphold the rights of both inmates and legal practitioners.

The Zambia Correctional Service remains open to constructive engagement with all stakeholders, including the Law Association of Zambia, to ensure continued improvement in service delivery and the protection of human rights within the correctional system.

The Service, therefore, wishes to assure the general public that the procedures in place are not punitive but preventive, aimed at protecting both inmates and legal professionals from potential misconduct or exploitation.
