DON’T LET POLITICIANS HIJACK FUNERAL, CHABINGA URGES LUNGU FAMILY

DON’T LET POLITICIANS HIJACK FUNERAL, CHABINGA URGES LUNGU FAMILY

LEADER of the opposition Robert Chabinga, has appealed to the family of the late sixth President, Edgar Lungu, to resist attempts by politicians to exploit the funeral arrangements for personal political gain.

In a press statement released today, Chabinga said it was unfair for people to take advantage of a bereaved family by engaging them in unnecessary conflicts, especially with the government.

His plea comes in the wake of the government’s announcement of a State Funeral and seven days of national mourning for the departed former head of state.

Chabinga specifically urged members of the Patriotic Front (PF) to exercise restraint and refrain from issuing inflammatory, divisive, or disparaging statements, especially those directed at the State.

He expressed deep regret over some members using the former President’s death as a bargaining tool to achieve their political motives, demanding an immediate cessation of such behaviour.

“This conduct is un-Zambian, un-African, and contrary to the spirit of respect and dignity we must uphold at this time,” he stated.

Drawing parallels to past events, the leader of the opposition highlighted how similar mistakes had previously contributed to missed opportunities for dialogue with the current Head of State, President Hakainde Hichilema.

He further called upon all PF members and the Zambian people to respect and support the arrangements made by the State to honour the late President.

Chabinga further urged unity during this period of mourning.

“Our beloved former President ran his race, fought a good fight, and now that he has departed, it is time for us to come together in unity and mourn with one accord,” stated Chabinga.

“Now that Belvedere Lodge has been officially designated as the venue for national mourning, all other arrangements outside this directive should be regarded as acts of non-compliance.”

He warned that any deviation would be viewed as willful disregard for the guidance issued by the State.

“Let us rise above politics and personal interests. This is a moment for reflection, respect, and national unity,” said Chabinga.

The late sixth President is likely to be buried next Saturday with the body expected to be repatriated from the country he died in, South Africa, into Zambia on Wednesday.

LUSAKA RESIDENTS CALL FOR NATIONAL PRAYERS AGAINST THE DEATH OF FORMER PRESIDENTS

LUSAKA RESIDENTS CALL FOR NATIONAL PRAYERS AGAINST THE DEATH OF FORMER PRESIDENTS.

By Sun FM TV Reporter

Some Lusaka residents have called on the government and church leaders nationwide to intensify prayers for the presidency, following the passing of all former heads of state.

In separate interviews with Sun FM TV News, concerned citizens expressed deep sadness over Zambia’s current lack of living former presidents, noting that this leaves future leaders without elder statesmen to consult on national matters.
They described the situation as troubling, urging national reflection and spiritual intervention.

Mr. Michael Namitondo advised the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) to fully embrace the upcoming National Day of Prayer, Fasting, Repentance, and Reconciliation by dedicating it to prayers for healing and unity in Zambia.

Meanwhile, another resident, Joseph Sinkamba, appealed to the government to complete the House of Prayer, a project initiated by former President Edgar Lungu, suggesting it would be a meaningful way to honor his legacy.

Lungu’s leadership left a permanent mark on Zambia’s healthcare landscape- DR. CHITALU CHILUFYA

FORMER MINISTER OF HEALTH DR. CHITALU CHILUFYA WROTE…

Farewell Your Excellency; from a Grateful Nation!

My wife, Mutinta, and I join a sorrowful nation in mourning the passing of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu in the morning of 5th June 2025 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Words cannot fully convey the anguish of heart for such a colossal loss to the nation and to his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mama Esther Lungu and the family.

Fifth June will never be the same again for our nation; a day that the Righteous Judge has called this humble servant President home bidding him “well done faithful servant.”

President Lungu’s presidency was forged in the trials, tribulations and joys known by an average Zambian. From a place of obscurity and  limited opportunity, he rose to the highest office of the land. The monuments of infrastructure donning our country side stand as true testimony to his indelible legacy. Judicious with little, this humble and faithful servant from Chawama can now rest in the bossom of Father Abraham. For his good deeds followeth him.

There are lessons to learn in this moment of sorrow and grief. In President Lungu, the son of a miner in Wusakili and Chiwempala can find inspiration, a young girl from Chawama and Chimwemwe can dream. At the very least, humility has ceased to be a weakness but a virtue with which one could soar high into the halls and corridors of power.

We cannot forget that putting country above self, he handed over power when the peoples voice loudly spoke.

This humble alumnus of Mukuba Secondary and University of Zambia heed the recall, and touted it a privilege to have served.

Now He has slipped away from this life into the sunset and twilight beyond our gaze. Now the books of judgement are opened unto him where all his works are recorded. O thou Righteous Judge, may his selfless leadership and  his developmental legacy speaketh well for him.

For all of us that remain, this is time neither for political brinkmanship nor partisan pettiness. It is a solemn  moment that demands unity in grief, civility in conduct, and above all, a decent State funeral that reflects the honour and dignity of the office he once held. Anything less would be a betrayal of our collective values as a nation.

Throughout his presidency, Lungu demonstrated a quiet but resolute commitment to duty. Those who worked under him, like me who was privilegded to be his minister of health, speak of a leader who led with confidence, loyalty, and strategic foresight. From the establishment of the National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA), the Levy Mwanawasa Medical University and the Zambia National Public Health Institute to the construction of specialist hospitals and the mass recruitment of health workers, Lungu’s leadership left a permanent mark on Zambia’s healthcare landscape.

In times of national crisis – such as the  pandemic and the cholera outbreak – he led from the front, sometimes placing early morning calls to get real-time updates. These were not the actions of a ceremonial figurehead but of a hands-on, responsive commander-in-chief leading his troops against a formidable biological and medical foe.

A state funeral for our fallen leader is not a favour to his family or party – it is a constitutional and moral obligation to the institution of the presidency. The infectious wave of grief sweeping across the nation is not a coincidence; it is a genuine outpouring from people who saw in Lungu a leader who, despite his faults, served them with humility and a sense of purpose.

Zambia’s humanity is on trial. Our people are watching with bated breath to see whether we will emerge a better people from this tragic loss. Will the spectre of acrimony and intolerance continue in our ranks? Or the banner of brotherhood and reconciliation find a place in our nations collective conscience?

President Lungu has been called back to his Father’s home. We, too, as a people are called to make this country a home for all, a place where our differences make us better not bitter.

Zambians are a proud and free people. Never bowed down by the strings of sorrow and adversity. Even in these days of pain, wrath and ashes, they desire their President a dignified send off. A decent State funeral not just about flags, pomp and ceremonies, but as a statement of national character, of who we are; from many tribes but one people united by bonds of patriotism.

It says we honour our past, we value service, and we understand the solemnity of leadership. Let there be peace among political rivals. Let there be civility in how we grieve. Let there be unity in honouring a man who, through calm leadership and enduring humility, earned his place in Zambia’s history.

To President Lungu: your chapter is now in the hands of history, the people you diligently served shall not allow it to be rewritten by opportunism or defaced by the graffiti of indifference. You led. You served. You sacrificed. And now, you deserve to be laid to rest with the full honour of a grateful nation. May your legacy inspire a more respectful politics, and may your final journey be marked by the unity you always sought to uphold.

You may now find rest in the bossom of your maker where torment touches you no more.
Rest in Eternal Peace, Your Excellency, and may perpetual light shine upon your face.

Edgar Lungu Offered To Hide Mnangagwa During Zim Coup

By Dr. Walter Mzembi

Tribute to Edgar Chagwa Lungu ( MHDSRIP) @EdgarCLungu

Former Presidents ordinarily are citadels or repositories of wisdom and are consulted from time to time by incumbents as long as they do not constitute a threat and are no longer active in partisan politics .

I worked closely with the late , and my last duty as Mugabe ‘ s last serving Foreign Affairs Minister was as his Special Envoy to Edgar Lungu at the height of the November 2017 transition in Zimbabwe.

So I arrive at Statehouse in Lusaka on the 13th of November with my sealed envelope and accompanied by Ambassador Takawira , am received and ushered into Lungu ‘ s office & after exchange of niceties and hospitalities , the President before he opens the letter bursts out ;

” Minister , if you are looking for ED , he is not here , your Intelligence is accusing me of hiding Mnangagwa here , but even though I don’t have him here , just know that if he was here he would be at home in Zambia . He is a Zambian by all accounts and we have a responsibility to protect him if his life is under threat . There are two people we would take here from your Government without question, because of their links and backgrounds , it’s you and him . That said without even opening your envelope go and tell President Mugabe to smoke the peace pipe with his Generals to avert a Coup coming to your Country in the next 24 -48 hours . We would hate to see Mugabe go the undignified way , so instead of proceeding to meet Zuma in Cape Town as you say , find the next flight to Harare and broker this meeting ” .

I immediately complied and took the next Emirates flight back to Harare, looked for Mugabe on landing but he was not available until the following morning in Cabinet, surprised to see me but very irritable at the same time.

Twice in Cabinet , Gwatiringa his Personal Assistant brought messages from the Command element that they wanted to meet him resonating with my own feedback from Lungu , which he also ignored. The rest is history.

From Lungu I was learning of the impending changes in Zimbabwe for the first time and this is part of my memoirs covering this engagement in greater detail.

Condolences to the President of Zambia @HHichilema , the People & Government of Zambia & Amai Lungu and Family . MHDSRIP

The Legal and Constitutional Justification for Granting Full Military Honours to Former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu

The Legal and Constitutional Justification for Granting Full Military Honours to Former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu

By : Tobbius Chilembo Hamunkoyo 08/06/25

It is an uncontested constitutional and legal fact that Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu served as the President of the Republic of Zambia and, by virtue of that office, as Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces. In accordance with the established constitutional norms, military protocols, and precedents set by the funerals of previous Heads of State, he is entitled to be accorded full military honours upon his demise.

Such honours include, but are not limited to, a final Presidential 21gun salute, a military fly-past, the mounting of a full guard of honour, and the ceremonial placement of his casket on a gun carriage bearing the official number plate “GRZ P6,” which was previously used in state funerals of his predecessors very important.

These are not mere symbolic acts; they are legal and institutional recognitions of the office he held and the responsibilities he bore on behalf of the Republic of Zambia, mukutika?

While the views and sentiments of the bereaved family are to be respected and acknowledged, the former President’s status as a national public office holder, more specifically, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, places him within the legal and constitutional category of a public asset or res publica.

As such, the State is vested with the legitimate authority and duty to facilitate and conduct military and state ceremonial rites as a matter of public law and national protocol.

It is important to emphasize that the role of Commander-in-Chief is not a ceremonial title but a functional constitutional designation.

Mr. Lungu embodied this office during his tenure, including by actively participating in military ceremonies and wearing the official military uniform. This underscores the legitimacy of military institutions taking charge of his final send-off.

Furthermore, matters concerning the selection of clergy or religious rites should be viewed in light of precedents set during the state funerals of Presidents Frederick Jacob Titus Chiluba, Kenneth David Kaunda, and Rupiah Bwezani Banda, where similar reconciliations between family preferences and national interests were achieved with dignity and respect.

While the State acknowledges the family’s emotional stake, the public interest and constitutional imperative must prevail. The Defence Forces must be granted the opportunity to honour their former Commander in accordance with law, protocol, and national tradition. Once a Commander-in-Chief, always a Commander-in-Chief—even in death.

In the Silence of Death, a Chorus of Confusion

In the Silence of Death, a Chorus of Confusion

By : Tobbius Chilembo Hamunkoyo

When a leader passes, a nation turns to order, to structure, to protocol, to grief made bearable by clarity.

But as Zambia mourns the passing of its sixth Republican President, the late Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu, what has instead emerged is a strange theatre of voices. Some loud, some emotional, some contradictory.

In a moment that demands unity and dignity, we are left asking ; who truly speaks for the Lungu family?

The confusion began soon after the somber announcement of the former President’s death. As the nation tried to come to terms with the loss, a flurry of public statements began to fill the airwaves and social media.

Tasila Lungu, the daughter of the late President, was among the first to speak. Her grief was understandable, her tone firm,as she sat besides her husband, yet questions arose as she seemed to challenge aspects of the government’s plans, something that was wrong on her side , especially understanding her standing in society. She is a national leader who understands government protocols very well and everyone expected her to behave in a sober way.

Then came Sean Tembo, known more for his political commentary than any familial tie to the deceased. He made passionate declarations, hinting at secrecy and exclusion.

Given Lubinda, once a close ally of the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu , also issued statements, painting a picture that often clashed with official reports.

Raphael Nakachinda, ever the controversial figure, added his own version of events with discrediting the current government with regards to the former late President’s health leading to death, at an international level one was not expected to speak like him.

Snr Counsel and constitutional lawyer Makebi Zulu, acting in a quasi-legal role, gave interviews that only further deepened the public’s confusion, claiming to sideline government’s involvement with regards to the Former Late president Edgar Chagwa Lungu’ s funeral arrangements and repatriating his remains from South Africa to Zambia.

Each statement, instead of offering clarity, only made things murkier.

Were they official family positions? Were they personal opinions? Were they sanctioned? No one could tell.

Zambia, in its mourning, began to whisper: “How many spokespersons does one family need?”

It is no secret that in death, as in life, politics often looms. But what should have been a unified voice from the family has turned into a chorus of contradiction. And amid this disarray, it’s the people of Zambia who are left bewildered.

The government, for its part, has acted with formality and respect. A national mourning period has been declared.

Entertainment and political activities are suspended, and media houses have adopted solemn programming in tribute. A state funeral committee has been constituted and tasked with overseeing everything from the repatriation of the body to the lying-in-state, and eventual burial at Embassy Park, with full military honors, as is befitting of a former Head of State, very important.

Yet, as these formalities proceed, a shadow remains over the process, cast not by the government, but by the family’s seeming disorganization. And so we wonder,  is this chaos a reflection of deeper internal divisions, or just the noise of politics rushing in to fill the silence of loss?

This is not the legacy Edgar Lungu deserved.

This moment, more than ever, demands dignity, coordination, and respect, not only for the late President but for the grieving nation. Zambians are not looking for drama. They are looking for closure, for inspiration, and for a reason to reflect on the values of service and leadership.

As the country awaits the final farewell, the call is simple but urgent, let there be one voice. Let there be unity. Let there be peace.

May President Edgar Chagwa Lungu rest well.

What Happens When a President Dies in Zambia? A Story of State, Tradition, and Farewell

What Happens When a President Dies in Zambia? A Story of State, Tradition, and Farewell

By : Tobbius Chilembo Hamunkoyo

Becoming President in Zambia comes with great honour, but also great sacrifice, this is very important to take note . One of the things many people do not realize is that when a President dies, their funeral and burial are no longer just family matters. The State takes over and no two ways about it and it is non negotiable.

Let us look at what has happened when past Presidents of Zambia passed away.

Levy Mwanawasa , When a Will Overruled

President Levy Mwanawasa, SC, left behind a clear Last Will, both in writing and in a video recording. He wanted to be buried at his farm in Palabana. But after his death, the government decided otherwise. Because he was a Head of State, they chose a new Presidential burial site opposite Cabinet Office in Lusaka. That is where he now rests.

Even though he was a Baptist and belonged to the Twinpalm congregation, his funeral service was held at the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross. This Cathedral is commonly used for State funerals in Zambia, regardless of a President’s personal church, very important to note this.

Frederick Chiluba,  Church and State

President Frederick Chiluba also was a well-known Pentecostal and known to have declared Zambia as a Christian nation. But like the others, his funeral was held at the Anglican Cathedral. His own Pentecostal bishop led the service as it was observed, but we know that the venue remained the same because that’s the tradition for State funerals and Tasila Lungu’ knows this .

Kenneth Kaunda, we recall a Family’s Fight

When Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, Zambia’s founding and first President, died, his family wanted him to be buried next to his wife, Mama Betty Kaunda, at their New Kasama home. Other family members said that he wished to be laid to rest in Chinsali near his parents, we dnt know if this was true. But once again, the State stepped in and buried him at the official Presidential burial site in Lusaka.

We recall that his family even tried to stop this through court processes, but the attempt failed. Though Dr. Kaunda worshipped at St. Paul UCZ, his funeral was still held at the Anglican Cathedral, in line with State tradition,Snr Counsel Makebi Zulu and his team know about this notorious fact.

Michael Sata, The People’s President as he was known for

President Michael Sata died while in office. A strong Catholic, his funeral was a bit different. The main service was held at Heroes national Stadium instead of a church, to allow thousands of Zambians who wanted to  attend to properly fit the assembly.

He was loved by many, and the government said this arrangement was to give “the people’s President” a farewell from the people themselves , very important.

Rupiah Banda,  A Peaceful Surrender and humble Family

President Rupiah Banda had a different According to people close to him like Snr Counsel Dickson Jere and other family members,RB wished to be buried at his Chasimpha Farm in Chipata, where his family is buried. But he also knew that, as President, the State could override this wish, just as he had done for Mwanawasa when he was in charge of running the affairs of the nation.

When RB passed away,  his family knew that he was a State property. The family agreed to follow the directions of the government with regards to the funeral arrangements.

According to Counsel Dickson Jere President Banda was Anglican, so having his service at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross did not cause any issues, unlike what we are witnessing from Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s spokes persons.

With the exception of President Michael Chilufya Sata, memorial services for all late Presidents, Kaunda, Chiluba, Mwanawasa, and Banda, have been held at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. Even on national days like Independence Day or National Prayer Day, this is where the State usually holds major events, the country is aware including the tonse alliance .

Also, the government has a clear policy, once a President dies, the State will organize only two official memorials, the first anniversary and the tenth. Any other memorials are left to the family, full stop.

Truth be told and Which is a notorious fact , when someone becomes President in Zambia, they give up more than their privacy, they also lose full control over how they are remembered in death. The State steps in, takes over the farewell, and makes sure it reflects not just the individual, but the nation.

In short, once you accept the presidency, your life, and even your final resting place, becomes part of Zambia’s national story.

Chabinga Urges PF to Respect Funeral Plans

CHABINGA Urges PF to Respect Funeral Plans

Leader of the Opposition in Parliament ROBERT CHABINGA has called on Patriotic Front members to respect and support the official State funeral arrangements of Sixth President EDGAR LUNGU announced by Government.

Mr. CHABINGA says there is need for unity, restraint, and dignity during and after the seven day national mourning period declared by President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA.

He says now that Belvedere Lodge is the officially designated as the venue for funeral gathering, all other arrangements outside this directive should be regarded as acts of non-compliance.

Speaking to ZNBC News in a walk in interview, Mr. CHABINGA condemned attempts by some PF members to use the former President’s passing for political gain.

He said it is disheartening that some members have chosen to use the death of President LUNGU as a bargaining tool to advance political motives.

Mr. CHABINGA has warned against repeating past mistakes that hindered opportunities for national dialogue and engagement.

He has urged party members to avoid divisive and inflammatory statements.

Mr. CHABINGA has also appealed to the former first family to safeguard the dignity of the funeral proceedings by resisting attempts by politicians to hijack funeral arrangements for political mileage.

In his tribute, Uhuru remembered the late Lungu as a humble and visionary leader who dedicated his life to the unity and prosperity of his country.

Elon Musk deletes X post claiming Trump’s name in Epstein files

Elon Musk stirred controversy on Thursday, June 5, with a now-deleted post on X (formerly Twitter), in which he claimed that US President Donald Trump’s name appears in unreleased Jeffrey Epstein files.

Musk implied this was the reason certain documents remain sealed. He offered no evidence to back the allegation, instead cryptically posting, “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.” Both posts were removed by Saturday morning, June 7.

The post comes amid an escalating feud between Musk and Trump, largely centered on Trump’s proposed “Big Beautiful Bill” on spending and taxes legislation which Musk condemned as a “disgusting abomination.”

The controversy briefly subsided following a public appeal for reconciliation by billionaire investor Bill Ackman, to which Musk responded with a vaguely conciliatory tone, hinting at potential de-escalation.

Trump and Epstein were known to have socialized during the 1990s and early 2000s. Trump’s name appears seven times in Epstein’s flight logs. However, no evidence has ever linked Trump to Epstein’s criminal activities. The two reportedly had a falling out years before Epstein’s 2019 arrest.

The White House has dismissed Musk’s claims as an “unfortunate episode,” reiterating that the president denies any wrongdoing. Meanwhile, the incident has reignited debate over the sealed Epstein files and their potential implications, though no new evidence has surfaced to corroborate Musk’s suggestion.

Top TikTok star Khaby Lame was detained by US immigration and has now left the country

Trump’s ICE Detains TikTok Star Khaby Lame

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement under Donald Trump’s administration detained TikTok megastar Khaby Lame this week for allegedly overstaying his visa. Bo Loudon, a MAGA-aligned influencer who frequents Mar-a-Lago and appears on pro-Trump cable news shows, publicly boasted that he reported Lame to ICE, claiming the Italian-Senegalese creator was part of the “far left.”

Loudon posted a screenshot from an ICE database showing Lame, who has over 162 million followers on TikTok, in custody at the Henderson Detention Center. However, the record doesn’t pull up on ICE’s webpage which could indicate that ICE deleted the record.

According to a statement from ICE to Men’s Journal, Lame, known for his silent TikTok videos mocking overly complicated life hacks, was not arrested or charged with any crime, but was “detained” at the Las Vegas airport after overstaying his visa and granted voluntary departure, allowing him to leave the U.S. without further legal consequence. Lame hasn’t released any statements confirming ICE’s description of the encounter

Lame recently posted himself shopping for manga on his Instagram page. Spending money at books stores is not exactly the kind of behavior that American citizens need to be saved from

Some MAGA accounts online celebrated the removal of a harmless and beloved content creator. This underscores the MAGA movement’s pattern of painting immigrants and foreigners as threats, regardless of facts.

Khaby Lame isn’t political, violent, or dangerous. He’s a 25-year-old internet comedian who shrugs and gestures at bad DIY videos. The idea that he was framed as a menace by a Trump-aligned figure speaks more to the right’s obsession with punishment and control than any real immigration risk.

Oscar Pistorius returns to sports, finishes Durban Ironman 70.3

Oscar Pistorius, the former Paralympic star convicted of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013, competed in the Isuzu Ironman 70.3 triathlon in Durban on June 1, marking his first public sporting event since his release on parole in January 2024.

The event, consisting of a 1.9-km swim, a 90-km bike ride, and a 21.1-km run (totaling 70.3 miles), saw Pistorius finish 555th overall and third in the “physically challenged” category with a time of 5:56:39, according to SportSplits results.

His participation was confirmed by his attorney, Conrad Dormehl, who stated it was part of his rehabilitation and that Pistorius enjoyed the event but is not planning a return to competitive running.

Reports indicate he received permission from his parole officer to travel from Pretoria to Durban. His parole, which extends until 2029, includes strict conditions like therapy and a media ban.

Family to Repatriate President Edgar Lungu Privately After Rift with Government

Lusaka, Zambia — 7 June 2025 (SMART EAGLES)

The family of the late Sixth Republican President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu, has announced that it will proceed with a private repatriation of his remains from South Africa, citing mistrust and mistreatment by the current government.

Family spokesperson Makebi Zulu made the announcement during a press briefing, revealing that while the Zambian government had expressed interest in participating in the funeral arrangements, the former president’s family had decided to honor his personal wishes and manage the process independently.

“The family wished to respect the wishes of the former president,” said Zulu. “He made it clear that he wanted to be buried in Zambia, his homeland, and that the Zambian people should mourn him with dignity.”

Zulu noted that President Lungu, who died on Thursday in South Africa, was aware of how he had been treated during his post-presidency.

“He was cognizant of the mistreatment he underwent under this government,” Zulu stated. “He knew the state did not treat him as it ought to have.”

According to Zulu, President Lungu had repeatedly requested to travel abroad for medical attention first in 2022 and again in 2023 but was denied by the government.

“In 2022, he made a formal request to travel for medicals in South Africa. The state denied it. In 2023, he repeated the request. The response was that there were no resources. He offered to use his own resources, and even then, they said no,” Zulu said.

“This was not a vacation. This was for his life. Yet a letter dated 7th September 2023 stated clearly: denied.”

Zulu criticized the state for being aware of the president’s health condition due to his service in State House, but allegedly still choosing to restrict his movements.

“They knew his condition better than anyone. Yet they acted with indifference. His rights were denied while he was still receiving a former president’s salary,” Zulu emphasized.

When his condition worsened in 2025, Zulu said doctors flew into Zambia and advised urgent evacuation.

“At that point, he had been stripped of all his privileges. He traveled as an ordinary citizen, booked a last-minute ticket to avoid interception, and boarded just 30 minutes before departure,” said Zulu. “Those who showed him courtesy at the airport have since been fired.”

Upon his arrival in South Africa, medical professionals expressed that earlier travel could have saved his life.

“The doctors said, ‘Had he come earlier, we could have done more.’ Those words haunt us,” Zulu said solemnly.

Despite the government’s attempts to take part in ceremonial arrangements, Zulu explained that the family had declined state-led repatriation of the body

“We told them: this would dishonor him. He left Zambia quietly, and he will return quietly privately. That is the wish of the family.”

Zulu added that the family had attempted to reach common ground but was met with resistance from the government.

“Our engagement with the government today has fallen on deaf ears,” Zulu said. “They want to impose how he should be buried, who should lead the prayers, where the funeral should be. We say: no.”

“The state will not impose faith or ceremonial control on President Edgar Chagwa Lungu. His faith, his values, and his family’s wishes will be respected.”

The spokesperson concluded with a plea for national unity during the mourning period.

“This is not the time for division. We call for unity. We call for sobriety. And above all, we call for introspection,” he said.

“Any position from the government that goes against the desires of the family will not be accepted. However, we remain open to a win-win solution that respects the dignity of our late president.”

President Edgar Chagwa Lungu served as Zambia’s Sixth President from 2015 to 2021. The details regarding funeral services, burial location, and public memorials are expected to be made public by the family in the coming days.

“Stop the nonsense”, Lungu’s friend tells Nakachinda

CHILUFYA Tayali, a close ally of former Edgar Lungu, has blasted PF faction secretary general Raphael Nakachinda for the “nonsense” he said during an interview on South Africa Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

During the interview, Nakacinda claimed that government was attempting to use Lungu’s funeral for political mileage.

Nakachinda also accused the UPND administration of having subjected Lungu to mistreatment after leaving office in 2021.

He also claimed that the late former president had been stripped of his entitlements and wanted a simple funeral.

But Tayali fumed that Lungu was stripped of his benefits as a statesman because he came back into active politics.

“Government tripped off Lungu’s benefits because he came back into active politics. The constitution is the one that demands that. Government only did the right thing,” he stated.

He accused Nakachinda and other PF insiders of being the real cause of Lungu’s suffering, saying they selfishly dragged the former president back into the political boxing ring despite his fragile health

“Who really killed Lungu you are the ones who killed Lungu. You were busy dragging him into politics. The man was not okay, you would have prevented him and you kept on dragging him, you are political vultures, let go of the nonsense.”

“I’m sorry I have to come up and I’m upset because of the interview that was done by Nakachinda, come on, drop it Nakachinda, drop it. Don’t be the biggest orphan, you are an old man, come on, you can stand on your own. Man up Nakachinda, stop the nonsense Nakachinda, Lungu is gone leave it,” fumed Tayali.

He advised Nakachinda to start surviving on his own as Tayali wss also just surging on his own.

PF SAYS EDGAR LUNGU’S DEATH COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED IF HE WAS ALLOWED TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION EARLIER

PF SAYS EDGAR LUNGU’S DEATH COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED IF HE WAS ALLOWED TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION EARLIER

By Chamuka Shalubala

The Patriotic Front-PF says former President Edgar Lungu’s death could have been avoided had people been professional and patriotic by allowing the former head of state to seek medical attention earlier.

Speaking in South Africa to SABC news, PF Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda noted with sadness that from the time Mr. Lungu left office, he was not allowed to leave the country for his routine medical checkups before recently sneaking out of the country.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nakacinda has wondered why the government all the sudden has taken interest in wanting to be in charge of Mr. Lungu’s funeral procession by wanting to buy him a casket and repatriate his remains.

He explains that both the Lungu family and the PF have expressed reservations, fearing that these actions are politically motivated and that government seeks to use the funeral as an opportunity for political gain.

But Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa has expressed shock at the comments made by Mr. Nakacinda, stating that it would be both unfortunate and disheartening for anyone, including government, to exploit the death of Mr. Lungu for political gain.

Mr. Mweetwa says government has no intention of politicizing the passing of Mr. Lungu, as there was no benefit in doing so.

He has assured the public that government is committed to ensuring Mr. Lungu receives a dignified farewell, given the international significance of his death.

Government securing repatriation of Lungu’s remains

GOVERNMENT has begun formal engagements with the family of late former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu in a bid to secure the repatriation of his remains and ensure funeral arrangements honour his legacy.

Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Mulambo Haimbe, is leading a delegation of senior government officials in South Africa where the late President died.

The team, which includes officials from Cabinet Office and the Acting High Commissioner to South Africa, Inonge Mwenya, met with family representatives led by former Eastern Province Minister Makebi Zulu at Radisson Blu Hotel in Sandton.

The preliminary meeting focused on aligning positions and proposals from the family, the Patriotic Front party and the State to ensure that Lungu is accorded a dignified send off befitting a former Head of State.

The meeting is said to be the first in a series of consultations, with a follow up session scheduled.

The outcomes of these discussions will be publicly communicated once consensus is reached.

Patriotic Front faction Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda has also joined the family delegation in South Africa.

PF is trying to provoke government over Lungu funeral – Laura Miti

HUMAN Rights activist Laura Miti has accused the Patriotic Front (PF) of attempting to provoke the government into chaos over the funeral of former president Edgar Lungu.

In a Facebook post, Miti said the former ruling party appeared to be using the funeral as a political tool to create tension with the government.

“My reading is that the PF (whoever that might be at this point) is using everything in its arsenal to try to provoke government into some chaotic showdown over President Lungu’s funeral,” wrote Miti.

She called for sobriety and urged both government officials and members of the late president’s family to remain calm and avoid getting drawn into unnecessary political conflict.

“I wish the government wisdom and sobriety. Don’t bite the bait. I wish those in the Lungu family, that might be feeling overwhelmed by a party acting with the rancour we see at the funerals of kaponyas, wisdom too.”

Her comments come in the wake of growing tensions between PF officials and the government over funeral arrangements for the late former president, who died on Thursday in South Africa.

PF faction Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda, in an interview with South African broadcaster SABC, claimed that government was attempting to use Lungu’s funeral for political mileage.

Nakachinda also accused the UPND administration of having subjected Lungu to mistreatment after leaving office in 2021.

“Lungu was under a travel ban ever since he left office. He was subjected to mistreatment which was politically motivated. The current regime was scared that they would be exposed if they allowed him to travel,” said Nakacinda.

He also claimed that the late former president had been stripped of his entitlements and wanted a simple funeral.

“For the past three years, Lungu was stripped of all his entitlements. He came here as an ordinary person. His wish was that if anything were to happen, he should be buried like an ordinary person,” he stated.

Tayali and Miyanda Disappointed by Government’s Delay in Announcing Lungu’s Death

Tayali and Miyanda Disappointed by Government’s Delay in Announcing Lungu’s Death

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

Stakeholders have strongly criticized the New Dawn administration for delaying the public announcement of former President Edgar Lungu’s passing, describing the move as disappointing and a potential source of national confusion.

https://www.youtube.com/live/DhRjrGGqomU?si=099qsGEwdBHXHw4j

Governance activist Wesly Miyanda told Sun FM TV News that the death of a former head of state should have been announced immediately on state television, either by President Hichilema himself or Information Minister Cornelius Mweetwa.

Miyanda emphasized that President Lungu, as a former national leader, remains state property, and the delay in confirming his passing reflects poor adherence to protocol.

He also noted that the government’s silence reinforces public perceptions of a strained relationship between President Hichilema and his predecessor.

Meanwhile, Economic and Equity Party (EEP) president Chilufya Tayali has urged both President Hichilema and the Secretary to Cabinet to set aside political differences and ensure that Lungu is accorded a full state funeral, in recognition of his contributions as a former head of state.

I was at his bedside, give me time to mourn, Lungu’s ADC tells court

FORMER Aid De Camp to late President Edgar Lungu, Chisenga Chanda has informed the Lusaka High Court that he was on Lungu’s bedside in South Africa and needed more time to mourn.

Chanda through his lawyer, Charles Changano said he came to Zambia on Wednesday to appear before court but abruptly returned to South Africa upon receiving news of Lungu’s death.

In this matter, Chanda allegedly assisted a wanted suspect Shebby Chilekwa, who was later convicted and sentenced to 25 years for the 2019 murder of UPND cadre Lawrence Banda.

Chanda pleaded not guilty to one count of accessories after the fact to murder.

It is alleged that Chanda, while knowing that Shebby Chisenga Chilekwa, on October 6, 2019 in Kaoma district in Western province murdered Lawrence Banda, did between October 6, 2019 and February 4, 2022 in Lusaka, receive, comfort, harbour, assist and maintain the said Chanda.

But when the matter came up before Judge Ruth Chibbabbuka yesterday, Changano said his client had returned to South Africa upon receiving news of his boss’s death.

“The accused is not present today,he was at bedside. He had travelled back in the country for today’s hearing, but just yesterday he received the message that the former head of state had passed on and immediately travelled back to SA.”

“Due to circumstances that have befallen the country we apply that the matter be adjourned,” Changano submitted.

The state did not object to the application of adjournment.

The court extended its condolences to the accused and the nation at large.

“Matter adjourned to tentatively June 20 ,but i would understand if you wont be ready due to circumstances. But hopefully we can proceed on June 27,” court said.

“PF fully supports the Govt’s leadership in the funeral arrangements”

The Patriotic Front -PF- says government will take charge of the funeral arrangements for former President EDGAR LUNGU.

Speaking at the PF Secretariat in Lusaka, Mr. LUBINDA said the PF fully supports the Government’s leadership in the funeral arrangements, and urged all citizens to cooperate and participate respectfully.

Lungu was betrayed by his own inner circle

GUEST ARTICLE: Lungu was betrayed by his own inner circle

By Josh Godwin Musuku

The narrative that Edgar Lungu “died an abused man” is a gross oversimplification meant to deflect accountability from those who truly failed him—his own inner circle. The reality is this: Lungu had multiple opportunities to retire with dignity, but his handlers and power-hungry allies in the PF and Tonse Alliance refused to let him go.

After losing the 2021 elections, Lungu initially stepped b

ack—only for his party to drag him back into the fray, even when his health was clearly failing. The Constitutional Court ruled him ineligible for 2026, yet PF leaders forced him to reclaim party presidency from Miles Sampa just a month before his death, knowing full well he was ill and constitutionally barred. Why? Because to them, Lungu wasn’t a leader—he was a brand to exploit for political relevance and financial gain.

Changala’s attempt to blame the current government is disingenuous. If Lungu was “abused,” it was by those who kept parading him as a pawn in their power games—not by a system that upheld constitutional term limits.

Had his so-called loyalists allowed him a true retirement—free from political manipulation—he might have spent his final years in peace, not in unnecessary legal and political battles.

The People Are Silent, But Not Asleep: A Warning to Those Who Govern- Linda Banks

#banabaabo- The People Are Silent, But Not Asleep: A Warning to Those Who Govern

By Linda Banks

The man is gone, death has done what politics could not. It has silenced him but legacy is not so easily buried. Legacy lingers, It seeps into the soil, into memory, into the collective bloodstream of a people still coming to terms with loss. And when that legacy belongs to a former Head of State, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, Zambia’s sixth Republican President, it demands pause. It demands respect.

Instead, we are seeing something sinister.

At a time when grief ought to unify us, even if briefly, those in power have chosen propaganda over propriety. Bitter commentary, unrestrained insinuations, and veiled attacks have been thrown into the public square while citizens still lay wreaths and sing solemn songs. Is this the Zambia we fought for?

The UPND government, once seen as a breath of fresh air, must now confront the hard truth. Power has changed them. Or perhaps it has simply revealed them. They are forgetting the very people who carried them into office with ballots of hope. And if they are not careful, they will awaken something they cannot contain.

https://www.youtube.com/live/DhRjrGGqomU?si=87_yWLpRGkHBLCjq

Let this be clear, this is not about Dr. Lungu’s political record. The man is no longer here to defend or explain himself. This is about what his death revealed. A country quietly seething. A people holding their tongues, but not their judgment. A ground that is restless.

The orchestrated narratives being pushed now, allegations recycled and spoken louder simply because the man cannot speak back, reveal desperation, not dominance. If the ruling party believes that their hold on power can be secured by tarnishing the legacy of the deceased, then they understand neither power nor the Zambian psyche.

Even if you disagreed with him, Dr. Lungu was a father, a statesman, and a leader to many. For thousands, his leadership, flawed or not, symbolised stability. To speak ill of him now, to inject venom into a moment of national mourning, is not strategy. It is self-sabotage.

And here is the irony. Had the UPND not feared his influence in death, they would not be trying so hard to erase his memory even before his body is buried. But legacy does not obey propaganda. It lives in people’s lived experiences. It lives in markets, in churches, in compounds where citizens weigh who remembered them when it counted and who merely posted tweets.

The Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act may silence some. But it cannot jail resentment. It cannot jail the grief-tinged anger of a mother who remembers being able to afford mealie meal under another regime. It cannot mute the disillusionment of youth who were promised jobs but are now hustling airtime and maize in the scorching sun.

This is the problem with deceptive governance. It assumes that silence equals satisfaction. But Zambians have always been a quiet storm. They do not riot. They vote. They do not scream. They remember. And when that time comes, no law, no lie, and no cyber brigade will be enough.

If the UPND still values its credibility, let them recalibrate. Let them show leadership, not through eulogies but through restraint. Not through narratives but through nation building. At the very least, let them pretend to walk in the spirit of UBuntu. For the sake of peace. For the sake of their own survival.

Because when politics loses its humanity, history takes over. We are inking history, and posterity will judge you harshly if you don’t change trajectory.

Dear readers, epo mpelele.

ZAMBIA: WHERE PRESIDENTS DON’T RETIRE — THEY DIE

[GUEST ARTICLE] ZAMBIA: WHERE PRESIDENTS DON’T RETIRE — THEY DIE

By Godfrey Chitalu

A day after President Hakainde Hichilema celebrated his birthday, former President Edgar Lungu died in a South African hospital. It added another sombre line to our growing political obituary. With his passing, Zambia becomes a democracy with no living former president – a republic without elders. A country where the presidency doesn’t lead to retirement but to the grave.

From Kaunda to Lungu, six men have held the highest office before Hichilema. All are gone. Three died on Zambian soil. The other three—Mwanawasa in Paris, Sata in London, and now Lungu in Pretoria passed away in foreign hospitals. The symbolism is impossible to ignore: even our own leaders do not trust the health system they presided over or are forced to flee their institutions. And perhaps, just perhaps, God allows it to make a point we keep refusing to confront.

In Zambia, leadership seems less like national service and more like a fatal assignment. Not because the office is cursed – but because we’ve cursed the environment that surrounds it. Public insults have replaced public honour. No president, past or present, has been spared national ridicule. Remember cabbage and the DEC insults? Add to that a crumbling health system, deep-seated tribalism, and the isolating nature of Zambian politics – and State House begins to resemble a sacrificial altar more than a seat of leadership.

Why must our presidents flee to foreign hospitals to draw their final breath? Why Pretoria, why London, why Paris? Why do we import caskets to bury men who once ruled a country rich in timber, talent, and dignity? The brutal truth: our health system is too broken even for the elite. And our leaders have died as victims of the very neglect they once supervised.

Biblically, leaders were elders – living libraries of wisdom. Moses mentored Joshua. Samuel advised both Saul and David. Wisdom was not buried – it was passed on. *Proverbs* 16:31 tells us, “Grey hair is a crown of splendour.” But in Zambia, we bury our grey hair before it fully silvers.

Let’s not avoid the obvious: tribal politics. Our presidents often ascend to power along tribal fault lines, not national merit. Even in mourning, we whisper about tribe – as if the coffin is not a great equaliser. And let’s be honest – there’s no culture of mentorship between past and present leaders. It’s a system of suspicion. Dog-eat-dog politics. When one leaves office, they either vanish or are vilified.

Zambia must rethink what leadership means. We must build hospitals that treat everyone with dignity – including presidents. We must create room for former leaders to guide and advise, not disappear in shame or silence. We must dismantle tribal loyalty and rebuild our commitment to national unity – not just in vain slogans like One Zambia, One Nation, but in substance, service, and shared humanity.

Until then, we remain a strange democracy – where every president is a prophet, we only honour after death using crocodile tears.

Vice President  Nalumango mourns Edgar Lungu

Vice President of the Republic of Zambia 
W.K Mutale Nalumango writes…. ✍️

My fellow Zambians,

It is with a heart weighed down by sorrow that I reflect on the life and legacy of the Sixth Republican President of the Republic of Zambia, Dr. Edgar C. Lungu. Though I quarreled with him, though we stood apart on policies and principles, believe me when I say my heart will forever remain broken by his passing.

Every disagreement was borne of love and respect—anchored in a deep commitment to Zambia and her people. As a husband, father, and national leader, Dr. Lungu understood my quarrels and tolerated them, knowing that at the core, I was his sister in service to our great nation. The pain is even greater knowing there will never be another Edgar Lungu to challenge, to debate, to inspire through shared convictions.

Now more than ever, Zambia must turn to prayer. We have One President who bears the weight of this moment, and as he works to honor and mourn his brother in a dignified manner, let us stand with him, offering our unwavering support in the days ahead.

On the economic front, our nation continues to face challenges, including the devastating impacts of drought. Yet in this adversity, President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership remains steadfast, fighting aggressively to restore hope and prosperity to our people. May God guide us, may He grant peace to the soul of Dr. Edgar C. Lungu, and may He continue to bless the Republic of Zambia.

These were my words in Geneva, Switzerland as I interacted with the Zambians in the diaspora.

Dr. W.K Mutale-Nalumango
Vice President of the Republic of Zambia .

ZAMBIA, BOTSWANA PLAN STRATEGIC RAIL LINK TO BOOST REGIONAL INTEGRATION

ZAMBIA, BOTSWANA PLAN STRATEGIC RAIL LINK TO BOOST REGIONAL INTEGRATION

By Duncan Liywalii | Wagon Media

Kasane, Botswana – Zambia and Botswana have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing regional connectivity through the development of the Mosetse-Kazungula-Livingstone Rail-Link Project, a major railway initiative aimed at linking the two neighbouring countries and strengthening economic ties across Southern Africa.

Zambia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Hon. Frank Tayali, speaking at the first Joint Ministerial Committee Meeting held in Kasane, said the Zambian government stands ready to provide strategic direction for the project, which is currently in the feasibility study phase.

“This project is a game-changer. It is not just about a railway line, but about deepening cooperation, opening trade routes, and building the future of transport infrastructure across the SADC region,” said Hon. Tayali. “We are committed to seeing this through, and our strategic input will ensure meaningful progress.”

The proposed railway line will span approximately 430 kilometres, connecting Mosetse in Botswana to Livingstone in Zambia via the Kazungula Bridge. Both countries have pledged to co-finance the feasibility study, a sign of their shared commitment to the long-term vision of regional integration and economic development.

Botswana’s Minister of Transport and Public Works, Hon. Noah Salakae, emphasized the broader vision of the project, stating that Botswana looks forward to a study that will not only address logistics and trade potential, but also lay out a clear traffic development strategy that promotes regional integration.

“The success of this project will hinge on our ability to coordinate and plan for the future. This rail link must not only serve Zambia and Botswana, but become a strategic artery for the entire SADC region,” Hon. Salakae said.

The  Mosetse-Kazungula-Livingstone railway is expected to enhance cross-border trade, reduce transport costs, and provide an efficient alternative route for moving goods between Southern and Central Africa.

The meeting in Kasane marks a major step forward in the realization of this long-envisioned project, setting the tone for deeper collaboration and shared infrastructure development between the two nations.

“I WANT TO OPEN DOORS FOR WYCLIF, OWAS RAY MWAPE” – OC OSCILLATION AS HE FEATURES IN AN AMERICAN MOVIE “ASHES OF THE FREE”

“I WANT TO OPEN DOORS FOR WYCLIF, OWAS RAY MWAPE” – OC OSCILLATION AS HE FEATURES IN AN AMERICAN MOVIE “ASHES OF THE FREE”

Zambian singer Siame O’Brien alias OC Oscillation spoke to News Diggers on his pursuit and passion for acting. OC Oscillation, who is based in the USA, revealed that his love for acting made him relocate to Los Angeles.

The artist revealed that his acting career goes as far back as 2008 where he featured in about three movies including one with Muvi TV’s Peter Chitalu – despite completing the movies, they never made it on TV.

OC Oscillation told News Diggers that his link to featuring in the film he has publicly shared behind the scenes videos on his socials “Ashes Of The Free” by Hollywood director Simon Romain was through a mutual friend who suggested that he shoots his music video – the music video they wouldn’t work on because he couldn’t afford the director’s services.

Two years ago, the director would offer him a role in a series, shot two seasons, and now shooting has stalled as the series hasn’t made it on TV yet.

The two would become close friends and later offer him yet another role in a movie they intend to take to the Film Festival with hopes of being picked by Netflix, Prime Video, or other movie streaming platforms.

“Acting is my passion, music is my number one, but movies, I love acting and it’s one of the reasons actually I chose to move to LA, because of music and acting,” OC Oscillation told News Diggers.

The singer/actor further mentioned that his pursuit of an acting career is so that he opens doors for actors back home as there are no successful Zambian actors in Hollywood.

“I don’t want to do it for myself, I want to open doors for my friends, especially guys who are already acting like Wyclif, Owas Ray Mwape, these guys are already on TV,” said OC Oscillation.

The 40 years old creative who acknowledged his neglect of his music career, sighting that his fans are back in Zambia and can’t promote it on the ground advised filmmakers to maintain authenticity and make movies based on stories like that of “Kenneth Kaunda” and “Mushala” as they are more likely to become hits abroad because people in the USA read about them.

“All the old acters that I know, none of them have come to America to try and act?” OC Oscillation who couldn’t believe that no single Zambian actor he know has ever tried to come to the USA to pursue an actuing career advised his fellow actors to pursue more greener pasture and emulate Nigerians who are successful Hollywood actors.

One of the singer’s top things to do on his agenda as he hits full pursuit of a career in the film industry seems to be helping revive the Zambian film industry.

“You know why it’s lonely at the top? It’s lonely at the top because you never helped your friends get there. You never helped your friends get there. In fact, you are glad that you, amongst all your friends, are the only one who made it there,” said the rapper.

The rapper highlighted that those who make it to the top alone find the burden of having to finance everything when there’s a group trip like going for a vacation France.

“Now you have to buy all your tickets, you have to book accommodation, pay for the whole trip because none of your friends made it,” said the rapper.

Macky 2 further shared the importance of having the people one suffered with all together as they experienced the good life.

“It feels good when you are surrounded by people who were there with you in the mud. So you can reminisce and tell stories of the past and the things that you’ve been through together,” the rapper emphasized.

He continued stating that, because the person’s group is doing well, they reduce the risk of being betrayed or harmed.

The rapper said, “It’s actually even safer because the people around you are also eating. You won’t worry about being poisoned, or people being envious or jealous, or people plotting against you or stabbing you in the back.”

Macky 2 has for a long time been a great example of what to emulate when it comes to helping people – not only friends, but even strangers.

Well, many of his followers have agreed with the artist. Therefore, the one million dollar question is, are you helping your friends or are your friends helping you to get to the top?

CHEF 187 REFLECTS ON WORKING IN THE MINES – “WHEN I GOT PAID, I’D BUY COOKING OIL FOR MY PARENTS, THE REST I’D SPEND ON SWAG”

CHEF 187 REFLECTS ON WORKING IN THE MINES – “WHEN I GOT PAID, I’D BUY COOKING OIL FOR MY PARENTS, THE REST I’D SPEND ON SWAG”

While on Kenny T 1 ON 1 podcast, rapper Chef 187 shared an insight into his eight months experience working in the Chingola mines after he completed grade 12 before he would go on to pursue a diploma in Business Administration at Evelyn Hone College.

Chef 187 revealed that he worked as a general work in the mines. A contractor would come at a place they referred to as Ku wire/Pa mulolela chipuba, and they would randomly select people as the only qualification needed was a National Registration Card(NRC).

“So, randomly, one day, a guy would just come up and say, Iwe, Iwe, Iwe, Iwe tiyeni and that’s it, you would be employed by a contractor in the mines like that. So, I was fortunate enough to have had that particular job,” said the rapper.

The rapper would further reveal that working as a general worker meant he never knew what job he’d be doing when he showed up to work as they would only be told when they reached and be given a safety talk based on their assignment.

“Like you would show up for work this day, you’re working at the open pit, this day, you’re underground, this day, you’re cobalt concentrator, this day, you’re cobalt secondary,” shared the rapper.

Chef 187 shared a moment of when he was  working in the mines, which, up to date, he still shares.

He said once upon a time a colleague who seemingly looked younger that them had told them that he can’t be found with them because there’s nothing they could talk about.

“Ine teti nsangwe naimwe, kuposa inshita. Finshi twinga landa po?” said the colleague – words that touched him and left him wondering why someone seemingly younger than him and doing the same job would say that.

He would later find out that the colleague was married with children – and the money he made was shared between him and his family whilst his money was only for swag(clothes) and some for buying cooking oil at home.

“Nale ntontonkanya, ine nga nafola, mufyashi namushila olo fye ka cooking oil shashala ni ngubo fye manje, shalaingila fye muli swag,” said the rapper who letter understood what the colleague meant by saying he can’t be found with them.

The rapper would continue sharing how his experience shaped his next endeavor, “I believe my experience in the mines gave me a level of maturity that I took college. I had seen life down in Chingola in the mines. So it gave me a whole different perspective.”

The rapper would leave home at 4 AM to go to work and come back at 6 PM, enduring long hours of working without resting to the extent that he would be dozing by the time he got home.

Chef 187 would leave for college soon also shared one more thing he learned from the mines experience, “One thing I took away from that experience, I remember our  foreman baletu sonta ati, imwe baiche imwe muchili abaiche don’t think this is the “BE ALL, AND ALL” there’s more to life than efyo tulechita pano.”

Kondwani Kaira alias Chef 187 would then leave for Evelyn Hone College a year later after joining the mines to pursue something similar to his late father career, “Accounting.”

The rapper pursued Business Administration, a program he said was broader compared  to that of his late father.

Chipolopolo Boys deny boycott claims

Chipolopolo Boys deny boycott claims

ZAMBIA’s Senior Men’s National Team has denied claims of a boycott over unpaid allowances, reaffirming their commitment to representing the nation.

This comes as Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Keith Mweemba issued a stern warning against acts of indiscipline and betrayal within the national squad after revealing that the association had a K100 million debt burden for allowances and accomodations plus salaries.

In an official statement shared by Patson Daka on his Facebook page, the players expressed their unwavering commitment to the people of Zambia, emphasising their pride in wearing the national badge with.

The team’s statement directly addressed the perceived discord, explaining that locally based players traveled to Lusaka as requested for national duty, and international players made arrangements to fly in for a scheduled Monday departure.

However, the team was informed by the manager on Monday that the trip had been “cancelled by the FAZ executive.”

“Despite being owed substantial unpaid dues, we have never allowed financial issues to affect our willingness to represent Zambia. We have consistently shown up for the badge, for the fans, and for our country.” They added.

“In turn, we expect mutual respect for our time, our efforts, and our professionalism.”

The statement further read that following the cancellation and in absence of further communication or direction from the federation, players who had traveled to Lusaka returned home.

The players further stated their readiness to serve when called upon.

Earlier, FAZ President Keith Mweemba had strongly condemned any alleged boycotts, labeling such actions as “unacceptable,” “betrayal,” and “embarrassment.”

Speaking this morning, Mweemba stressed that the national team is not a platform for boycotts or power plays and that players who attempt to undermine commitment, loyalty, and unity will face swift repercussions.

“No player is bigger than the national badge, players should realise that playing for the national team is a privilege, not a right,” Mweemba declared.

He warned of looking elsewhere for talent if players do not uphold the expected values and standards.

Steenhuisen sacks chief of staff over racist remarks controversy

Steenhuisen sacks chief of staff over racist remarks controversy

Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen has terminated the contract of his chief of staff, Roman Cabanac, following months of controversy over Cabanac’s past racist remarks.

The decision, announced on Tuesday, comes after intense public and political backlash that has dogged the minister since Cabanac’s appointment in August 2024.

Cabanac, a polarizing podcaster known for his right-wing views, faced scrutiny when old social media posts resurfaced, including a tweet claiming “blacks are not liberals” and comments questioning the Sharpeville Massacre.

The remarks sparked outrage, with critics, including the EFF, labeling the appointment a betrayal of South Africa’s non-racial principles and accusing Steenhuisen of poor judgment.

Initially defending Cabanac’s legal qualifications, Steenhuisen later conceded the appointment was a misstep, citing its distraction from the ministry’s goals.

Despite a September 2024 request for Cabanac to resign, he refused, leading to a drawn-out HR process.

The termination, coincidentally on Cabanac’s birthday, has prompted him to hint at legal action over alleged procedural flaws.

The saga has fueled debates about accountability and transformation within the Democratic Alliance and the Government of National Unity, raising questions about political appointments in South Africa’s fragile coalition landscape.

US funding cuts leave 36,000 Lesotho children without school meals

US funding cuts leave 36,000 Lesotho children without school meals

Over 36,000 children across 200 primary schools in Lesotho are now without critical food aid after the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) abruptly ended funding for a Catholic Relief Services (CRS) school feeding program.

The initiative, launched in 2022 to combat food insecurity affecting over 20% of Lesotho’s population, was cut short, leaving students, educators, and local farmers reeling.

The program, originally slated to run through 2027, provided daily meals to 17% of the nation’s primary school learners, ensuring nutrition and encouraging school attendance.

Its termination, confirmed on June 6, 2025, has sparked concerns about rising hunger and dropout rates.

Local farmers, who ramped up production to supply the program, now face significant financial losses.

The Lesotho government claims its own feeding program will fill the gap, but skepticism persists due to its history of inconsistent delivery. The cuts are part of broader U.S. aid reductions, including $496 million in disaster assistance and $400 million in global health programs, further straining Lesotho’s efforts to combat HIV and TB.

As communities brace for the impact, advocates warn that the loss of this lifeline could deepen poverty and hunger in one of the world’s most vulnerable nations.
