NAMIBIAN MINISTER RESIGNS FOLLOWING ARREST AND SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS
NAMIBIAN MINISTER RESIGNS FOLLOWING ARREST AND SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS
By: The Namibian
Nambian Minister of agriculture, fisheries, water and land reform Mac Hengari has resigned from his position.
This follows rape allegations involving a 21-year-old woman, and his arrest.
Hengari early on Sunday confirmed to The Namibian that he had stepped down.
“I resigned as minister, but l cannot comment further,” he said.
Hengari’s resignation follows allegations that he raped the woman when she was still a minor.
National police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi on Saturday confirmed Hengari’s arrest, following an alleged attempt to bribe the woman to withdraw the case she opened against him last year.
“Hengari is indeed arrested after he attempted to bribe the victim to withdraw the case. That is what he was arrested for.
“That’s all I have for now,” she said.
The matter is currently under police investigation.
Police inspector general Joseph Shikongo this week confirmed that DNA samples were collected from both Hengari and the alleged victim for testing.
Sources familiar with the case say the test results are still pending.
Hengari was appointed to the Cabinet in March after president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah included him among her top-eight parliamentary candidates.
Several allegations first surfaced earlier this month, prompting calls from political commentators such as Rui Tyitendi, for Hengari to step down pending investigations.
AN URGENT APPEAL TO THE GOVERNMENT OF ZAMBIA
AN URGENT APPEAL TO THE GOVERNMENT OF ZAMBIA
By Carol Lyambai
Warmest greetings to the esteemed people of Zambia, including:
– *His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema, the visionary leader guiding our nation towards progress and prosperity.
– *Our revered Traditional Leaders, the custodians of our rich cultural heritage and wisdom.
– *The Honorable Ministers, entrusted with the responsibility of shaping our nation’s future.
– *The esteemed Members of parliament, representing the voices of the people.
– *The dedicated Councilors, working tirelessly to improve the lives of our communities.
– *Fellow young and old Zambians, the backbone of our nation.
As a concerned young female Zambian citizen, I am compelled to bring to light the pressing issue of student dropouts from colleges and universities due to financial challenges. This crisis not only affects individuals but also hampers our nation’s progress and development.
*THE IMPERATIVE NEED FOR PROFESSIONAL COURSE
Supporting students in professional courses is crucial for Zambia’s growth and development. Some of the key areas include:
– *Information Technology (IT): Driving innovation, digital transformation, and economic growth.
– *Healthcare: Improving healthcare outcomes, reducing mortality rates, and enhancing the well-being of our citizens.
– *Engineering: Building infrastructure, driving industrialization, and creating employment opportunities.
– *Agriculture: Enhancing food security, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, and increasing agricultural productivity.
– *Business and Entrepreneurship: Fostering innovation, creating jobs, and stimulating economic growth.
*THE CAUSES OF DROPOUT
– Financial constraints: Many students struggle to pay tuition fees, leading to dropout.
– Limited access to scholarships and bursaries: Insufficient funding opportunities hinder students’ ability to pursue higher education.
– High tuition fees: The cost of education is a significant barrier to access.
– Family responsibilities: Some students have to balance academic pursuits with family obligations.
*THE CONSEQUENCES
– Loss of potential talent and skills: Dropouts result in a loss of skilled workforce, hindering national development.
– Increased poverty and unemployment: Without education, individuals are more likely to experience poverty and unemployment.
– Slowed economic growth: A lack of skilled workforce slows down economic growth and development.
– Brain drain: Talented individuals may seek opportunities abroad, leading to a brain drain.
*A CALL TO ACTIONS
We urge the government to prioritize education and support students in need. Some potential solutions include:
– Allocating CDF funds to support students in professional courses
– Increasing scholarships and bursaries
– Collaborating with the private sector for sponsorships
– Implementing flexible payment plans
Together, let’s empower Zambia’s youth and build a brighter future!
“CHIPANDULE” CRIMINALS NABBED
“CHIPANDULE” CRIMINALS NABBED.
APRIL 27, 2025 – Police in Lusaka have apprehended four dangerous criminals belonging to a gang known as “Chipandule,” which has been terrorising members of the community in Matero and surrounding areas.
An intelligence-led operation was conducted by police officers in Matero between 20:00 hours on April 26, 2025, and 05:00 hours on April 27, 2025. The operation targeted criminal groups commonly referred to as “junkies.”
During the operation, an 18-year-old gang member, in the process of being apprehended, attempted to escape by climbing onto a roof, despite several police warning shots. Unfortunately, he was struck by an errant bullet and sustained an abdominal wound.
Police officers immediately rushed him to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH), where he is receiving medical treatment. His condition is reported to be stable.
The four suspects have been identified as Joseph Banda, alias “Josalase,” aged 23; Prosper Mbewe, aged 24; and two male juveniles, aged 18 and 15.
In addition, a 47-year-old woman, the mother of two of the suspects, has also been apprehended for aiding and abetting the gang members by hiding them from the police.
The suspects have been on the police wanted list for various offences related to aggravated robbery.
Meanwhile, patrols were extended to Chunga, George, Desai, Soweto, Kachele, Kizito, and Lilanda compounds, where an additional 41 suspected “junkies,” including two females, were apprehended.
All suspects are currently in police custody and will appear in court soon.
The Zambia Police Service wishes to thank the residents of Matero and surrounding areas for their continued cooperation and support in making our communities safer.

POLITICAL HISTORIAN WARNS TONSE ALLIANCE INSTABILITY COULD JEOPARDIZE 2026 POLL BID
POLITICAL HISTORIAN WARNS TONSE ALLIANCE INSTABILITY COULD JEOPARDIZE 2026 POLL BID
Historian Dr. Eustone Chiputa has cautioned that internal instability within the Tonse Alliance could threaten its ability to effectively participate in the 2026 general elections.
In an interview with Phoenix News, Dr. Chiputa has observed a growing trend of alliance members prioritizing personal political ambitions over collective goals, citing the increasing number of breakaway parties and rising mistrust among members, as key indicators that the alliance is struggling to maintain unity.
He has compared the Tonse Alliance to other coalitions like the United Kwacha Alliance -UKA, which has experienced similar factionalism, noting that many political players seem convinced that only their respective leaders can truly represent the alliance’s vision.
He has called on senior political figures, particularly those from the former ruling party, to take on the role of mediators and help rebuild cohesion within the alliance by fostering compromise and a shared sense of purpose.
Meanwhile, former Patriotic Front-PF Secretary-General Davies Mwila has offered a contrasting view, claiming the Tonse Alliance may actually serve as a lifeline for the embattled PF whose ongoing internal wrangles are unlikely to be resolved before the 2026 elections.

How Can Magistrate Chibwili Demand to Be Excused From Munir Zulu’s Petition?
How Can Magistrate Chibwili Demand to Be Excused From Munir Zulu’s Petition?
Chibwili’s Plea to Escape Scrutiny Is an Admission of Guilt
Accountability Is Not Optional: Chibwili Must Answer for Zulu’s Jailing
By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma
It is both outrageous and absurd that Chief Resident Magistrate Davies Chibwili — the very man behind Munir Zulu’s controversial and questionable imprisonment — is now pleading to be removed from the Constitutional Court proceedings. How can a magistrate who presided over a matter riddled with allegations of illegality and constitutional violations suddenly claim innocence and demand to be “struck out” of a process that directly questions his own conduct?
Chibwili was no passive actor; he was the architect of Munir Zulu’s incarceration. It was under his authority and direction that Zulu was convicted and jailed, despite widespread concerns about bias, procedural irregularities, and a blatant disregard for the core principles of justice. Now, as the legitimacy of his actions is challenged, he seeks to distance himself from the consequences? It is an insult to the intelligence of the Zambian people.
Justice demands full transparency and accountability, especially from those entrusted with judicial power. Chibwili cannot hide behind the excuse of merely “performing a judicial function” when it is precisely his conduct during that function that is under intense scrutiny. If he genuinely believes his actions were lawful, fair, and impartial, he should welcome the opportunity to defend them before the Constitutional Court. His plea to be excused only deepens suspicion over the integrity of the entire process.
Equally troubling is the State’s simultaneous push to shield Chibwili by arguing that only the Attorney General should answer to Zulu’s petition. This maneuver exposes a dangerous alliance aimed at protecting those who abuse their judicial authority. If the judiciary is truly independent and confident in its processes, why scramble to prevent scrutiny?
The truth is undeniable: a magistrate cannot preside over a deeply questionable case, jail a sitting Member of Parliament on shaky grounds, and then disown personal responsibility when legally challenged. Davies Chibwili must face the very justice system he is sworn to uphold. To allow otherwise would set a dangerous precedent — one where judicial officers can trample on citizens’ rights with impunity and then hide behind technicalities when held to account.
This case is no longer just about Munir Zulu. It has evolved into a critical test of Zambia’s commitment to the rule of law, judicial accountability, and the protection of fundamental human rights. It raises the critical question: will Zambia allow those who wield state power — in the courts, in Parliament, or in the Executive — to act without fear of being held answerable when they cross the boundaries of legality?
Zambians are watching. They are awake, alert, and asking the hard questions. They will not be fooled by cowardly technicalities or legal gymnastics designed to protect those who betray their oath to deliver justice impartially and fearlessly.
Accountability is not optional. It is the very foundation of a functioning democracy. Davies Chibwili must not be excused. He must answer fully, openly, and without manipulation.
Justice must not only be done — it must be seen to be done.

MILUPI SAYS OPPOSITION ALLIANCES ‘A MIXTURE OF TOXIC INDIVIDUALS’
Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) president Charles Milupi says opposition alliances are a mixture of toxic individuals with nothing to offer to Zambians.
Mr. Milupi, who is also Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, said in an interview yesterday that opposition alliances lack credibility and a vision for the country.
He said it is clear that the alliances are only driven by a desire to get into power and not to serve the people of Zambia.
“They are a mixture of toxic individuals with nothing in common apart from wanting to get into State House. I don’t think it is a good recipe for leadership,” Mr. Milupi said.

NAKACINDA FAILS TO TAKE FRESH PLEA IN SEDITION CASE
PF faction Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda yesterday failed to take fresh plea in the matter in which he is charged with sedition.
This follows after the court was informed that Nakacinda’s lawyers of Messrs. Makebi Zulu Advocates were undisposed. In this matter, Nakacinda is facing one count of seditious practices. It is alleged that Nakacinda, a former minister of water development and sanitation, on August 21, 2024, uttered seditious words:
“The UPND government is undertaking genocide against its own citizens. The government imported mealie-meal and maize contaminated with aflatoxins which caused the death of dogs and an uncertain number of Zambian citizens which is yet to be established,” when he featured on Millennium Radio.

FDD APPLAUDS FARMING SUCCESS URGES GOVERNMENT TO ADDRESS MISUSE OF PUBLIC FUNDS
THE Forum for Democracy and Development has hailed the 2024-2025 farming season as a game-changer for Zambia, citing impressive maize fields across various parts of the country.
FDD Chairperson for International Relations, Anthony Chibuye, expressed admiration for the country’s agricultural progress, particularly in Luapula, Northern, Central, and Copperbelt provinces.
Mr. Chibuye attributed the success to the hard work and resilience of Zambian farmers, emphasising that consistent high production in the agricultural sector would significantly boost the country’s Gross Domestic Product.
However, he cautioned the government against allowing excessive maize exports, warning that this could compromise national food security.
Meanwhile, Mr. Chibuye criticized the government’s use of the Constituency Development Fund, alleging that funds were being misused for personal gain rather than for productive purposes. He urged the UPND administration to revise CDF guidelines to prioritise investments in productive sectors such as agriculture.
Mr. Chibuye also condemned the alleged abuse of government resources under the cash-for-work program, citing reports of fake names being paid for work that was never carried out. He stressed the need for greater transparency and accountability in public spending, warning that such practices undermine the country’s efforts to combat corruption.

UPND’s Popularity in Barotseland reduces further, Claims Western Province PF’s Bright Kufuka
UPND’s Popularity in Barotseland reduces further, Claims Western Province PF’s Bright Kufuka
By Barotseland Watchdog
Western Province Patriotic Front (PF) Chairperson Bright Kufuka has declared that the United Party for National Development (UPND) has suffered a significant loss of popularity in Barotseland, also known as Western Province.
According to Kufuka, the decline is attributed to the UPND’s lack of political will to bring meaningful development to the region.
Kufuka revealed that the PF, in collaboration with the Tonse Alliance, is intensifying its efforts to mobilize and penetrate Western Province.
He said the goal is to build on the development agenda initiated by the PF, which, according to Kufuka, has been lacking under the current UPND administration.
“The UPND has failed to deliver tangible development projects to the people of Western Province, beyond completing some infrastructure projects that our party started,” Kufuka claimed.
“We are confident that our development agenda will resonate with the people of Barotseland once again. We are not happy with substandard work our friends are doing like 1X3 classrooms they are building.”
Kufuka expressed disappointment that the UPND has not fulfilled its promises to the people of Barotseland, particularly regarding the completion of King Lewanika University and the upgrade of Lewanika General Hospital.
“We had hoped that the UPND would honor the people of Barotseland by completing these projects, given their long-standing support for the party,” Kufuka said. “However, it seems that the UPND is not committed to delivering on its promises.”
Kufuka emphasized that the PF/Tonse Alliance will prioritize the completion of King Lewanika University and the upgrade of Lewanika General Hospital once they return to power.
“These projects will be among our top priorities, and we will ensure that they are completed to benefit the people of Barotseland,” Kufuka stated.
The PF’s renewed focus on Western Province could have significant implications for the 2026 general elections. With the UPND’s popularity waning, the PF may see an opportunity to regain lost ground in a region that has historically been a stronghold for various political parties.

Unjust Dismissal: A Blatant Attack on Zambia’s Public Workers
Mr. Paul Kasonde’s Unjust Dismissal: A Blatant Attack on Zambia’s Public Workers
By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma
I read the news from News Diggers with a heavy heart, but more than that, with anger and disbelief. What has become of Zambia’s public service? How has it come to this — where the very core principles that should guide public servants, such as fairness, professionalism, and adherence to procedures, are so recklessly discarded for political expediency?
The story of Paul Kasonde, former Manager for Aviation Security (AVSEC) at Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL), is a glaring example of the erosion of justice in Zambia. Kasonde, who has now filed a lawsuit seeking damages for unfair dismissal, was fired for performing his duties in full compliance with the law. His “crime”? Clearing former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s departure at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) without subjecting him to full security screening.
What is particularly outrageous here is the fact that VIP facilitation procedures, which are clearly outlined and universally known, exempt former presidents from routine security checks. This is not some vague, open-ended guideline — it is a well-established and respected protocol followed in countries that understand the importance of honoring former leaders. In Zambia, this should have been no different. Yet, here we are, watching as a dedicated and law-abiding public servant is ruthlessly punished for following the very procedures that he was hired to enforce.
The question must be asked: Why was Mr. Kasonde fired for doing his job? Why should a professional, simply carrying out his duties with integrity, be stripped of his livelihood? Was this really about security? Or is this yet another political attack aimed at punishing anyone, regardless of their professional conduct, who is even remotely associated with Edgar Lungu?
This is not just about one man’s wrongful dismissal. It is a wake-up call to every civil servant in Zambia: Your career, your future, can be obliterated not because you’ve broken any law, but simply because of the political affiliations of the person you happen to serve at any given moment. Is this the Zambia we are building? A country where loyalty to political parties trumps adherence to laws, regulations, and the principles of justice?
The sad reality is that we are creating a climate where public workers are not safe — where doing your job, following the law, and maintaining professional standards are no longer enough to protect you from political retribution. If this continues, Zambia will become a society where public servants live in constant fear of losing their jobs simply for carrying out their professional responsibilities in line with established procedures. Is this the kind of country we want?
Today, it is Paul Kasonde. Tomorrow, it could be anyone — any dedicated public servant who dares to do their job with honesty, integrity, and professionalism. Where does it end?
The injustice done to Mr. Kasonde is not just a personal betrayal. It is an outright assault on the very integrity of Zambia’s public service. We cannot, under any circumstances, allow the weaponisation of state institutions for political score-settling and vendettas. If we do, we destroy the very foundation of our democracy. The rule of law, fairness, professionalism, and the protection of civil servants’ rights must be at the heart of any truly democratic society. The politicisation of public service undermines the trust the Zambian people have in their own government, and that is a danger we cannot afford.
As I reflect on this, my frustration grows. We are not simply witnessing the victimisation of one individual, but the beginning of a deeply worrying trend. We are allowing public servants to be punished for doing their jobs — for following procedures — and for serving the country, even when those they serve are politically unpopular. This is a violation of justice that we cannot — and should not — tolerate.
Paul Kasonde deserves to be reinstated. He deserves justice, not only for himself but for every public worker who has the misfortune of working in a climate of fear and political persecution. But even more than that, Zambia deserves better. We deserve a public service that is insulated from political manipulation — where merit, integrity, and professionalism reign supreme.
We must not allow intimidation and political retaliation to replace fairness, integrity, and service. Public servants should not have to fear for their jobs when they are doing their duty in accordance with the law. If we allow this kind of victimisation to continue, we are sentencing our public service to a future of fear, dysfunction, and corruption.
This is a call to action — for Mr. Kasonde, for all civil servants, and for Zambia. We must stand up for the rights of our public workers, demand justice, and protect the integrity of our institutions. The future of our nation depends on it.

Pope Francis buried at Santa Maria Maggiore in historic break from tradition
Pope Francis buried at Santa Maria Maggiore in historic break from tradition
Pope Francis was laid to rest today in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, departing from centuries of Vatican tradition that saw his predecessors interred in St. Peter’s Basilica.
The 88-year-old pontiff, who died on April 21, chose the site out of personal devotion to the Virgin Mary and as a reflection of his lifelong commitment to humility.
The funeral, held earlier in St. Peter’s Square, drew thousands of mourners from around the world, including heads of state, clergy, and the faithful. Following the ceremony, his remains were transported to Santa Maria Maggiore, where he was buried near the icon of Salus Populi Romani a symbol he visited more than 100 times during his papacy.
“His decision to be buried here speaks to his profound Marian devotion and his desire to remain close to the people,” Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, said during the burial rites.
The tomb, as requested in the pope’s will, is modest, underscoring the simplicity that defined his 12-year leadership of the Catholic Church.
Santa Maria Maggiore, Rome’s largest Marian basilica, dates back to the 5th century and houses some of the Church’s most revered relics. Pope Francis’s burial is expected to turn the basilica into an enduring site of pilgrimage, further solidifying his legacy as a pontiff who favored accessibility over grandeur.
As Catholics worldwide mourn a pope known for championing the marginalized and calling for unity, the Church now turns its attention to the upcoming conclave, expected to begin in the coming days.

American pastor Josh Sullivan returns to the US after harrowing kidnapping and rescue in South Africa
American pastor Josh Sullivan, who was kidnapped at gunpoint during a church service in Motherwell, Gqeberha, South Africa on April 10, 2025, has safely returned to the United States after a dramatic rescue.
Sullivan, 45, a missionary from Tennessee, USA was freed on April 15 in Gqeberha following a “high-intensity shootout” where South African police, led by the Hawks unit, killed three of his captors.
Sullivan was found unharmed in a vehicle at a safe house and has since expressed gratitude for his survival, attributing his strength to his “personal relationship with Jesus” and the prayers of people worldwide. He described the experience as the “worst” of his life but is now focused on healing, asking for privacy as he reunites with his wife, Meagan, and their children.
The US Embassy commended the South African authorities for their rapid and coordinated efforts in the rescue operation. The rescue team, which included specialized police units, was able to locate the safe house in a matter of days after Sullivan’s abduction, responding quickly to leads that led to the suspects’ hideout.
Three captors were killed during the operation, and several others are under investigation.
Sullivan, who moved to South Africa in 2018 to establish a church for Xhosa-speaking communities, plans to eventually share his “miraculous” story. He expressed deep gratitude for the support he received during his ordeal and hopes to continue his missionary work when he feels ready.
South Africa and Tanzania strengthen ties as agricultural import ban is lifted
South Africa and Tanzania strengthen ties as agricultural import ban is lifted
Tanzania has lifted its import ban on South African agricultural products, marking a significant step in enhancing trade between the two nations.
Minister of International Relations, Ronald Lamola, hailed the decision as a victory for diplomatic efforts and a boost for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The move follows months of negotiations to resolve trade barriers affecting South African exports like citrus and avocados.
The announcement coincides with Tanzania’s 61st anniversary of unification. Lamola called the agreement a win for both economies, opening new opportunities for South African farmers. Tanzania’s growing demand for quality produce offers valuable potential for exports.
Experts caution that continued investment in infrastructure and compliance with standards will be crucial for fully realizing the benefits.

KAMANGA SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT: FAZ PRESIDENCY NOT A FULL-TIME JOB AS HE EYES FINAL TERM COMPLETION
KAMANGA SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT: FAZ PRESIDENCY NOT A FULL-TIME JOB AS HE EYES FINAL TERM COMPLETION
IN a revealing and purpose-driven conversation on the Kenny T One on One Podcast, Football Association of Zambia President Andrew Kamanga shed light on what has truly defined his tenure vision, reform, and legacy-building. With the 2025 FAZ elective Annual General Meeting set for May 9 in Kabwe, Kamanga isn’t just seeking re-election he’s seeking to finish what he started.
Picture this: a man standing at the top of a structure he’s spent nearly a decade building laying brick by brick, policy by policy. Kamanga paints his journey not as one of personal glory, but as the architect of a football system designed to stand long after his presidency.
“It’s been an exciting journey,” Kamanga reflected. “Football has its challenges, but as president, I have always understood my role to provide vision and strategic oversight. Execution is the job of the secretariat, led by the General Secretary as CEO.”
DISMISSING MYTHS, DEFINING LEADERSHIP
There’s a common misconception that the FAZ presidency is a hands-on, full-time job. Kamanga demystified this notion with clarity: “Our job is strategic, just like a board chair in a company. Day-to-day operations are managed by the secretariat.”
It’s this non-executive, reform-centered approach that Kamanga says sets his leadership apart. From the get-go, he zeroed in on transforming governance structures beginning with the constitution itself.
“The first step was constitutional reform,” Kamanga noted. “We introduced provincial governance and empowered local structures to run their own AGMs. This decentralisation made FAZ truly national, not just Lusaka-centric.”
BUILDING FROM THE GROUND UP
If the first term was about laying the foundation, the second term, according to Kamanga, is “taking the structure up to roof level.” The vision? A self-sustaining, performance-driven FAZ.
From the grassroots to global stages, Kamanga recounted the journey with pride:
The resurrection of Chipolopolo, qualifying for two consecutive AFCON tournaments after a string of painful misses.
Zambia’s U20 Africa Cup triumph in 2017.
Reaching the quarterfinals of the FIFA U20 World Cup.
A flourishing women’s program culminating in a historic FIFA Women’s World Cup debut in 2023.
Ongoing hopes with the Copper Princesses eyeing another U17 World Cup qualification.
“Between 2016 and 2021, we focused heavily on grassroots football supporting clubs with grants and equipment. Today, Super League clubs are receiving over K1 million in support, compared to K200,000 before.”
LOOKING AHEAD: A LEGACY IN MOTION
With elections looming, Kamanga isn’t campaigning on promises he’s campaigning on progress. He urges FAZ councillors to help “complete the structure” and build a legacy of financial independence and continental glory.
Not one to rest on laurels, Kamanga also hinted at a post-FAZ project a book capturing the intersection of football and business, inspired by his experiences steering one of Africa’s most complex football institutions.
“This is about systems that last beyond personalities,” he said. “We must think beyond today. That’s how we build enduring success.”
As the sun sets on his second term, Kamanga’s story reads less like a politician’s pitch and more like a builder’s blueprint drawn in sweat, strategy, and the unwavering belief that Zambian football’s best days lie ahead.

Last night, we were privileged to be part of the 2025 Lwiindi Gonde Traditional Ceremony Fundraising Dinner Dance, held at Family Safari. I attended alongside my brother, the Minister of Defense, Hon. Ambrose Lufuma and his wife, Chieftainess Kucheka.
As a proud son of the soil, I firmly believe in promoting and preserving our rich Tonga culture. The fundraising dinner dance offered a valuable opportunity to contribute meaningfully to this important cause.
In this spirit, my family — the Mwiimbu family — has pledged K100,000 to support the successful hosting of the ceremony in July this year.
I therefore call upon all well-wishers to join us in this noble cause. The success of the 2025 Lwiindi Gonde Traditional Ceremony rests upon our collective shoulders.
Hon. Jack J. Mwiimbu, SC, MP.
Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security

FIVE LUMEZI COUNCILLORS ENDORSE UPND CANDIDATE AND PRESIDENT HICHILEMA
FIVE LUMEZI COUNCILLORS ENDORSE UPND CANDIDATE AND PRESIDENT HICHILEMA
Five of the nine Patriotic Front (PF) councillors for Lumezi Constituency, including Lundazi Council Chairperson Emmanuel Miti, have pledged their support to the UPND candidate ahead of the forthcoming Lumezi Parliamentary by-election.
The councillors have also endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Speaking during a press briefing held at Country 24 Lodge in Lundazi District, all the councillors cited the developmental policies of the UPND government aimed at uplifting rural communities and the lack of direction in their political party.
The Patriotic Front councillors who declared their support include Blaston Ngoma of Kamimba Ward, Alick Banda of Lumimba Ward, Fackson Sakala of Chibande Ward, Samuel Nkhoma of Kapangala Ward, and Emmanuel Miti, who is also Lundazi Council Chairperson.
Blaston Ngoma said he chose to support the UPND candidate because of the equal distribution of resources regardless of political affiliation.
He called on all opposition Members of Parliament to appreciate the good works of the UPND government.
Mr Ngoma added that President Hichilema has shown a genuine commitment to supporting the people of Eastern Province.
Emmanuel Miti from Kazembe Ward said he was pleased that President Hichilema introduced free education, allowing many children to return to school.
He also praised the positive impact of the Cash for Work Programme and the increased Social Cash Transfer.
Mr Miti highlighted the construction of the first-ever mini-hospital and new classroom blocks in the valley area by the New Dawn government.
Samuel Nkhoma, councillor for Kapangala Ward, revealed his total support for the ruling party, citing projects like the construction of health posts through Constituency Development Funds (CDF) and the free education policy.
Alick Banda of Lumimba Ward said the timely completion and quality of infrastructure projects influenced his decision to support the ruling party.
Eastern Province Minister Peter Phiri, who officially welcomed the councillors, expressed happiness over their support for the UPND.
Mr Phiri clarified that the councillors have not defected but are simply supporting the progressive works of President Hichilema and his government.
He emphasized that no well-meaning Zambian can ignore the benefits of free education introduced by the UPND government.
Mr Phiri, who also serves as Eastern Province UPND Chairperson, reiterated that President Hichilema loves and respects all citizens, including members of the opposition.

UPND denies hand in Tonse coup…..says SP should take responsibility in its nocturnal schemes

*UPND denies hand in Tonse coup…..says SP should take responsibility in its nocturnal schemes*
Saturday 26 April, 20025
THE United Party for National Development (UPND) has categorically dismissed allegations of destabilizing the opposition Socialist Party (SP), describing such as an attempt to clothe themselves after being caught pants down scheming to take over leadership of Tonse Alliance.
An audio has gone viral in which Akende M’membe, a senior member of the SP and also daughter of party owner Fred M’membe, and youth leader by the name of Kelvin were mooting to dislodge Tonse leader Edgar Lungu.
“The allegations are not only disingenuous but malicious and a plain vain attempt to drag us into their internal squabbles and schemes in which we absolutely have no interest. Ours is to serve the people to the best of our ability, having taken over a country whose economy was knocked to its knees by the Patriotic Front… It is the PF leadership and their collaborators who have converged on Tonse, trying to hoodwink Zambians once again,” Lusaka Province UPND chairman Obvious Mwaliteta said.
He said SP has failed to come clean on the schemes and has now resorted to scapegoating or at their regrettable best sucking in the ruling party.
The SP, he said, should just confess and seek forgiveness from their partners because the videos have exposed their evil plans, especially at a time the Tonse leader is receiving treatment in South Africa.
“That’s their own treachery hatched from their own factory. These diversionary tactics are old-school and fall short in a basic test of decency,” Mr Mwaliteta said.
He noted that the UPND cherishes an opposition that is fully and robustly involved in checks and balances and not one that is hellbent on a witch-hunt after being trapped in its own nocturnal schemes.
Mr Mwaliteta is proud that the UPND has stabilised the economy, improved governance and sanitised politics.
“The mines have been revived, Zambians are enjoying free education and the farmer is happier than ever before because of timely delivery of farming implements and inputs.
That’s our focus. We, therefore, are reluctant to engage SP whose ideologies, everyone knows, have been overtaken by time and are impracticable society,” he said.
He encouraged his party functionaries not to be distracted and Zambians not to be swayed by such naysaying zealots.
“Instead, join our leader and dear President Mr Hakainde Hichilema as he works day and night to bring Zambia to life once again. It may take a little long but a concrete foundation has been laid and it shall be well.
We urge all Zambians to support the President in every endeavour because he means well for us all,” Mr Mwaliteta said.
