“Chabinga Chabinga! PF Throws Out Mafinga MP Like a Used Campaign Poster”

“Chabinga Chabinga! PF Throws Out Mafinga MP Like a Used Campaign Poster”

In what political analysts are calling a “Kasama-style eviction,” the Patriotic Front (PF) has fired its Mafinga MP, Robert Chabinga, faster than you can say “alliance denied.”

In a letter stamped, sealed, and no doubt delivered with a frown, PF Secretary General His Honourable Raphael Nakacinda informed Chabinga that he had been expelled forthwith a term which in PF apparently means, “pack your bags and don’t forget your red beret if you have one.”

According to PF, Chabinga went rogue like a boda-boda during fuel shortage zooming onto Facebook to declare that PF had formed an alliance with the ruling UPND. The post, which PF claims was written without consultation or even a courtesy WhatsApp message, left the party leadership choking on their nshima.

“As a party, we were shocked. We thought maybe his account was hacked or he was dreaming in broad daylight,” said a senior PF official who asked to remain anonymous, “but when he endorsed HH for 2026? Aah, that one finished us. That’s political witchcraft!”

In the now-viral letter, PF accuses Chabinga of “gross misconduct”, a charge which in PF’s dictionary includes:

Thinking aloud on Facebook

Cozying up to the President in power

And most importantly, confusing the grassroots who still think UPND stands for “Under PF Negotiation Deal.”

PF has since written to both the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Electoral Commission of Zambia, asking them to begin procedures to delete Chabinga like expired talk time officially declaring the Mafinga seat vacant.

“He campaigned in green but now dances to red. That’s betrayal of the highest order!” cried out a PF youth from Mafinga, visibly upset, holding a faded 2021 campaign poster of Chabinga smiling with a hoe.

With by-election winds now blowing in Mafinga, and political temperatures rising like December ZESCO bills, one thing is clear in Zambian politics, the drama never ends, and the alliances are shakier than a ZNS-constructed road during rainy season.

Their projects focus on tree planting, waste management, and climate education, among other areas,” he said

ZAMBIA LAND ALLIANCE APPLAUDS UPND GOVT FOR REDUCED POLITICAL INTERFERENCE IN LAND ADMINISTRATION

ZAMBIA LAND ALLIANCE APPLAUDS UPND GOVT FOR REDUCED POLITICAL INTERFERENCE IN LAND ADMINISTRATION

By Michael Kaluba

Zambia Land Alliance Executive Director Patrick Musole has commended the reduced political interference in Zambia’s land administration under the current government, compared to the previous regime.

Mr. Musole says there has been a notable improvement in land administration over the past three years, compared to before the 2021 general elections, when illegalities were widespread but has acknowleged that some instances of political interference still persist.

He has however expressed concern that meaningful change remains stalled due to the absence of amendments to the land act, contending that while legal reforms and policy updates exist on paper, real challenges continue on the ground.

Mr. Musole has emphasized that the current land policy offers a solid foundation, but gaps remain between government pronouncements and enforcement, citing unfulfilled demolition of illegal structures in sensitive areas on the copperbelt, including water discharge points and protected areas such as Forest 27.

He is concerned over the governance of customary land, where some traditional leaders are reportedly allocating land to investors without community consultation, prompting him to call for legislation to regulate traditional land and protect vulnerable groups such as women, youth, and persons with disabilities.

ZAMBIANS WILL BREATHE THROUGH PF IN 2026 – NKANDU LUO

By Henry MWENJENGA

Edgar Lungu’s political partner and 2021 running mate loser Nkandu Luo has assured PF cadres that in 2026, they will breathe fresh air as her and Lungu will take over Zambia.

Luo is among a few PF thugs that upto now have refused to accept that they lost elections in 2021.

Meanwhile PF leader Robert Chabinga has said that it will be foolish for Rafael Nakachinda to accept the appointment from Miles Sampa as PF SG charging that the Registrar of Societies documents don’t recognise Sampa as leader of PF.

With these squabbles, Socialist band leader Fred M’membe has seen a hole to deepen the confusion and lead them under Tonse Alliance cooperative but breakaway in August and brand his cronies as thieves.

Political pundits say M’membe understands the art of keeping your enemies who closed down your only bread and butter making machine, Post Newspaper closer to his chest so that he can finish them off from inside as they would forget that he is a python.

TANZANIAN TRUCK DRIVER FINED K80,000 FOR AIDING UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS

TANZANIAN TRUCK DRIVER FINED K80,000 FOR AIDING UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS

Lusaka… Wednesday April 30, 2025 (SMART EAGLES)

The Mpika Magistrate Court on 29th April, 2025 convicted and sentenced a 54-year-old Tanzanian truck driver, Charles Michael Lumato to a fine of K80,000 or, in default, to serve two years simple  imprisonment for aiding 37 undocumented Ethiopian nationals.

Lumato was apprehended on 23rd March 2025, at the Mpika Weigh Bridge by a joint team of Immigration and Police officers after they discovered 37 Ethiopian nationals, aged between 14 and 39, locked inside the truck he was driving.

According to Immigration Department Chief Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka, the group was found after Lumato, prompted by loud banging noises from the container, opened it, inadvertently exposing the individuals inside who were struggling to breathe due to exhaustion and lack of oxygen.

Mr Nshinka explains that on the same day, all 37 Ethiopian nationals were convicted and sentenced to fines ranging from K1,500 to K5,000 or, in default, nine months simple imprisonment for failing to appear before the nearest immigration officer upon entry into Zambia.

“The truck and trailer used to transport the individuals have been conditionally forfeited to the State. These convictions bring the total number of convictions secured by the Department of Immigration on 29th April, 2025 to 72,” he said in a statement obtained by Smart Eagles.

“Further, in Western Province, the Senanga Immigration Office on 29th April, 2025 apprehended a
51-year-old Zambian national, Emmanuel Choza, for harbouring two undocumented Congolese nationals, a mother and her 13-year-old son, and for assisting the woman in fraudulently obtaining a Zambian National Registration Card. Mr. Choza was arrested within the Magistrate Court premises where he had gone to attend the woman’s court hearing on illegal entry charges. Preliminary investigations revealed that Choza had housed the woman for two years and later facilitated the arrival of her son from Congo to join them in Zambia.”

Mr Nshinka also disclosed that, on the Copperbelt Province, a routine operation by officers from the Kasumbalesa Border Control on the night of 29th April, 2025 led to the apprehension of 15 suspected illegal immigrants in the Chewe and Kwashimutale areas.

“The group includes 13 Congolese nationals, one Tanzanian, and one individual claiming to be Zambian. They face charges ranging from illegal entry and unlawful stay to possession of multiple travel documents without authority. All suspects are detained pending prosecution,” he added.

“Additionally, on the same day, the Department removed 16 illegal immigrants from the country and refused entry to six individuals who failed to meet Zambia’s entry requirements.”

UPND REVEALS LONG-TERM SOLUTION TO ZAMBIA’S POWER DEFICIT

UPND REVEALS LONG-TERM SOLUTION TO ZAMBIA’S POWER DEFICIT

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

The United Party for National Development (UPND) has revealed that it is aiming to find a long-term solution to Zambia’s power deficit.

UPND Chairperson for Energy, Charles Kaisala, stated during a press briefing that the party’s agenda to diversify the energy sector is progressing, with several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) already signed.

Eng. Kaisala, who also serves as a board member at ZESCO, revealed that the power utility has launched a hybrid, three-tier generation model designed to inject 270 megawatts into the national grid.

He explained that the model incorporates a mix of utility-funded and micro-generation projects, alongside ongoing diversification efforts at Kariba and Kafue Gorge, which include coal-powered initiatives.

Mr.Kaisala noted that the UPND government, through ZESCO, is also upgrading infrastructure to enhance both power imports and exports between Zambia and neighboring countries.

He stressed the importance of cost-reflective tariffs to ensure the sustainability of the energy sector and attract further private investment.

The UPND Chairperson for Energy also called for stronger collaboration between the government and the private sector to address the country’s energy challenges.

SOCCER FAN THREATENS TO BLOCK FAZ AGM

SOCCER FAN THREATENS TO BLOCK FAZ AGM

Football enthusiast Martin Akende has threatened to halt the May 9, 2025, Elective Annual General Meeting if resolved matters regarding who should chair the AGM are revisited.

Akende insists that FIFA has already provided clear guidance on this issue through its March 13 letter to FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga, outlining the procedures for regional conferences and the AGM.

In his view, football stakeholders consider this matter settled, and reviving it would derail the progress made so far.

Akende’s statement comes in response to remarks attributed to Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu, suggesting that the government doesn’t care who chairs the FAZ Elective AGM, as long as it’s not those whose mandate has expired.

He wrote;

STILL HERE AGAIN?

In light of the Minister of Sports, Elvis Nkandu’s, statements insisting that the government doesn’t care who chairs the FAZ AGM on May 9, 2025, as long as it’s not those whose mandate expired on February 28, 2025, we are left questioning the relevance of FIFA’s previous ruling.

On one hand we welcome FIFA guidance on the other hand we don’t care who chairs the meeting as long as it’s not those whose mandate expired in February.

This matter was settled by FIFA when it decreed that all Provincial FAZ Elections would be chaired by their respective Provincial chairpersons and that the FAZ elective AGM would be chaired by FAZ President Andrew Kamanga and his executive, as per the FAZ constitution.

On March 13, 2025 I wrote an article about this whole debate, FIFA guided, no transition committee, No NSCZ election committee… provincial elections commence this Saturday chaired by their respective provincial chairpersons.
• FIFA has guided the “FAZ Annual General Meeting must be chaired by the President of FAZ, Mr Andrew Kamanga.”
• Further, FIFA guided that, “For the avoidance of doubt, all Elective Regional General Meetings, scheduled between 15 and 27 March 2025, must be chaired by their respective Regional Chairpersons.”
• Additionally, FIFA has said “FAZ Executive Committee must continue to fulfill its statutory roles and obligations without any interference from any third parties.”

We thought we have made progress about this but we are still here. Should this continue, I will be left with no option to instruct my lawyers to halt the meeting.

Former Presidents are not exempt from security searches at the airport in Zambia- Dickson Jere

Editor’s choice: Former Presidents are not exempt from security searches at the airport in Zambia

By Dickson Jere

The issue of airport security is thorny. And it has been for a longtime now. While all passengers – especially on departures- are required to be searched for the safety of aircrafts, some are exempt. This exemption – by law and practice – is reserved for a small clique of passengers. By the way, even pilots and crew members get searched before boarding the plane even though they are the ones in command of the same machine.

Anyway, in Zambia, the responsibility of searching passengers falls on the shoulders of the Zambia Airport Company Limited (ZACL) but in line with international standards and government regulations. This is common practice all over the world.

By law, convention and practice, the Heads of State and their Deputies may be exempt from searches in a number of jurisdictions by virtue of their office.

In Zambia, only the President and visiting Heads of State and their spouses are exempt as per Government Circular of 2025. The second category is that of Vice President and visiting Vice Presidents and their spouses. And their baggage is included in this category.

So, any government official – whether serving Minister, Member of Parliament or Judge – are required to be searched at the airport. Former leaders are also not exempt by this Government Circular. However, by practice, these people are searched in private in the VIP lounges. That is why you do not see them removing belts and all.

Why Search them?

It is the international requirement in aviation for airports to search every passenger and crew. It is for the safety of all passengers especially on commercial flights. You cannot trust anyone on earth and that is why even priests and pastors are made to remove belts. It is what it is!  If you relax the security protocols at your airport, the country maybe downgraded. You may even have airlines searching your VVIPs on entrance of the aircraft to make sure that they comply.

I know there is a group of those suffering from the “You Don’t Know Me Syndrome” that they throw tantrums for just asking them to be searched. They have a sense of entitlement. However, the same people do not make noise when searched elsewhere in Europe and all.
Anyway, if I had a way, I would include the former Presidents and visiting former Presidents on the list of those exempt from security searches at the airport. I think this category deserves it but off-course not their entourage. Former Presidents and their spouses should be included on the exempt list.

By the way, whether one has a Diplomatic Passport or not, he is not exempt from being searched. I had one and I know the protocols. But sometimes one may be luck that the officers exercise discretion by allowing you to pass but that is not provided for in the law.

NOTE: President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya (as he then was) used – once in while – to pass through the normal security checks and removed his belt to be searched as a normal passenger. That sent a signal that all must comply for the safety of the aircrafts.

Unity Over Ego: Tonse Alliance Must Reunite for the Sake of Suffering Zambians- Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

Unity Over Ego: Tonse Alliance Must Reunite for the Sake of Suffering Zambians

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

In a time when Zambia is bleeding, when homes are breaking under the weight of hunger, when mothers are skipping meals so their children can eat, and when the youth walk the streets with empty pockets and empty hope, it is not power or pride that will save us. It is unity. It is sacrifice. It is leadership with a conscience.

The Tonse Alliance was not just a political pact; it was a covenant with the people—a promise etched in the hearts of millions who dared to dream of a new dawn. But today, that dream is hanging by a thread. That promise is cracking under the weight of bruised egos, unnecessary infighting, and public spectacles that do nothing but insult the intelligence of a suffering nation.

Let this be said clearly and without apology: the suffering majority of Zambians do not care about your disagreements. They do not care about backroom whispers, political jostling, or blame games. They are not interested in who betrayed whom or which leader said what behind closed doors. And they certainly have no appetite for the constant airing of dirty linen in public.

While politicians bicker, Zambians are battling daily for survival. They want food on their tables, jobs for their children, medicine in hospitals, and dignity restored to their lives. That is the only agenda that matters.

The Tonse Alliance gave people hope. You walked with them, spoke their language, felt their pain, and stood together against a regime that failed them. But now, when unity is needed most, you falter. You allow petty differences, public outbursts, and personal grievances to threaten the only credible force capable of rescuing Zambia from political and economic ruin.

Enough is enough.

Let your boardrooms be filled not with arguments, but with solutions. Let your meetings behind closed doors be about strategy, not slander. Let your conversations be filled with conviction, not suspicion. And above all, let your actions speak louder than your titles.

Leadership is not about always being right; it is about doing what is right. Swallow your pride. Forgive past political wounds. Set your eyes on the bigger picture—the cries of a nation that still believes in you, even when you are too busy tearing each other apart.

The UPND government thrives on your disunity. It counts on your silence. It depends on your egos. But the people—the real heartbeat of Zambia—are counting on your unity. They still believe the Tonse Alliance is the only vehicle that can liberate them from the chains of poverty, corruption, and despair.

So ask yourselves, all of you in the Alliance: What legacy will you leave? One of betrayal, bickering, and collapse? Or one of courage, unity, and national salvation?

The people are watching. The streets are listening. The youth are waiting. History is being written.

This is your moment. Rise above self. Rise above party lines. Rise above hurt feelings and political mistrust. The nation is crying out for leadership—not leadership in name, but leadership in action.

Let the Tonse Alliance be reborn, not in politics, but in purpose. Not in power, but in principle. Not for personal gain, but for national redemption.

Because in the end, when all the speeches are over and the elections are done, what will matter most is not who had the loudest voice, but who had the boldness to unite for the people.

Zambia cannot wait any longer. The cries are growing louder. The patience is wearing thin. The window is closing.

Tonse Alliance, unite—before it is too late.

UPND Responds to Opposition’s Misleading Claims on Dialogue and Governance

UNITED PARTY FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (UPND)

MEDIA STATEMENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: 30th April, 2025

UPND Responds to Opposition’s Misleading Claims on Dialogue and Governance

The United Party for National Development (UPND) wishes to set the record straight in response to recent misleading and inaccurate statements made by members of the opposition, particularly in relation to President Hakainde Hichilema’s genuine call for national dialogue and ongoing governance issues.

1. A Missed Opportunity for Constructive Engagement

President Hichilema extended an olive branch in good faith—inviting all political players to engage in meaningful dialogue for the betterment of our nation. This was not a political gesture, but a sincere appeal grounded in our shared democratic values. Unfortunately, segments of the opposition have chosen to squander this opportunity, responding not with engagement, but with distortion, hostility, and unfounded allegations. This is a regrettable abdication of responsibility in a constitutional democracy where the opposition is expected to provide credible checks and balances, not to stir division.

2. Dialogue Channels Are Open and Functional

Contrary to the claims being circulated, formal channels for dialogue remain open. Institutional frameworks exist for communication, collaboration, and consultation. The opposition has full access to these and is encouraged to participate constructively rather than resorting to misleading public commentary. Dialogue must be anchored in truth and mutual respect.

3. Media Freedom and Human Rights Are Protected

Under this administration, Zambia enjoys a renewed era of media freedom and human rights. The passage of the Access to Information Act stands as a landmark achievement—one that underscores our commitment to transparency and accountability. Allegations that journalists are being coerced lack evidence and appear to be politically motivated attempts to discredit progress.

4. Corruption Fight Guided by Integrity and Rule of Law

Our anti-corruption efforts continue with integrity, independence, and without interference. Institutions such as the Anti-Corruption Commission are functioning autonomously and have demonstrated their impartiality. Accusations suggesting otherwise are not only baseless but a disservice to the nation’s efforts to strengthen governance.

5. Transparent Constitutional and Electoral Reforms

Claims that constitutional and electoral reforms are being conducted in secrecy are entirely false. These reforms are being approached through broad consultations and open processes. The composition and operations of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) remain within constitutional bounds and are carried out with transparency and due legal process.

6. Advancing Gender Equality Together

We acknowledge that more must be done to achieve gender parity and remain committed to this goal. Our administration has made tangible progress in appointing women to leadership positions and will continue working with all stakeholders to ensure inclusivity and representation.

In Conclusion

The UPND reaffirms its unwavering commitment to democratic governance, open and respectful dialogue, human rights, and the rule of law. We call upon the opposition to rise to the moment, embrace the principles of responsibility and constructive criticism, and join hands in the ongoing constitutional reform process for the good of all Zambians.

SNAPSHOT IN HISTORY: IAN SMITH AND KENNETH KAUNDA HOLD A SECRET MEETING AT STATE LODGE, LUSAKA

SNAPSHOT IN HISTORY: IAN SMITH AND KENNETH KAUNDA HOLD A SECRET MEETING AT STATE LODGE, LUSAKA.

ON 14 August 1978, Three Rhodesian Air Force Alouette III helicopters landed on State Lodge grounds, on board were 10 Selous Scouts and the white Rhodesian leader Ian Smith who had flown to Lusaka for a secret meeting with President Kaunda and guerrilla leader Joshua Nkomo to discuss a role for the Patriotic Front guerrillas in a Rhodesian settlement. His coleader in the Patriotic Front, Robert Mugabe, did not attend the Lusaka meeting.

Also in attendance was Major General Joseph Nanven Garba the Foreign Minister for Nigeria. Nigeria was a major financial of the liberation movements in Southern Africa.

On 3 September 1978, the conflict took a turn that outraged even war-weary Rhodesia.

Nkomo’s forces shot down a civilian jet carrying 56 passengers.  Eighteen people survived the 1978 crash but 10 of them were murdered by guerrillas. Ten of the survivors, who included women and children, were then butchered on the ground.

Five months later, his men shot down another civilian plane killing all 59 on board.

White Rhodesia demanded revenge. On Good Friday 1979, a column of Rhodesian SAS soldiers dressed as Zambia Army soldiers crossed into Zambia, bound for the country’s capital, Lusaka. Their mission – codenamed Operation Bastille – was to assassinate Joshua Nkomo.

ZCLU CALLS FOR INDEPENDENT PROBE INTO OVER-DETENTION AND DEATH OF SUSPECT IN BRIBERY CASE LINKED TO INCEST

ZCLU CALLS FOR INDEPENDENT PROBE INTO OVER-DETENTION AND DEATH OF SUSPECT IN BRIBERY CASE LINKED TO INCEST

THE Zambian Civil Liberties Union has expressed concern over the recent death of Anna Kandonga in police custody, one of three female suspects accused of attempting to bribe a police officer in connection with a defilement case involving her husband.

ZCLU Executive Director Isaac Mwanza says this tragic incident raises urgent questions not only about the cause of her death but also about the prolonged detention of all three women who were arrested on march 28, 2025.

Mr. Mwanza is calling for an immediate and independent investigation into both the circumstances of her death and the over-detention that preceded it.

He says regardless of public sentiment toward the women’s actions, their fundamental rights must be protected, stating that every suspect no matter the nature of the accusation is entitled to the presumption of innocence, a fair and speedy trial and the right to apply for police bond or bail.

Mr. Mwanza says their prolonged detention reflects a disturbing trend of rights violations affecting not just these women, but many ordinary Zambians and political detainees across the country.

The deceased was one of three women arrested and jointly charged with conspiracy to defeat justice and interference with witnesses, as well as corrupt practices by or with private bodies after they attempted to bribe police officers in a bid to secure the release of their husband Juma Banda, who was arrested for allegedly defiling his 10-year-old daughter.

Zambia Cyber Security Agency coming

Zambia Cyber Security Agency coming

AS Zambia gears up for highetened Cyber security, the freshly refined Cyber Crimes Act of 2025 has paved way for the establishment of Zambia Cyber Security Agency, a specialised body that will be tasked with safeguarding the nation’s digital infrastructure and combating online threats.

The Agency which is under Part II, Section 3 of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act No. 3 of 2025 and will operate under the Office of the President.

This means that it will work under the general guidance of the Head of State and will be responsible for managing all cyber security matters in Zambia.

The law also gives the Agency the responsibility to work with other government institutions that are already tasked with protecting the country from cyber warfare and online attacks.

Together, they will ensure that Zambia’s independence and digital safety are protected in an age where cyber threats are growing.

One of the Agency’s main duties will be to coordinate all cyber security activities in the country.

It shall also be responsible for dealing with any online incident that could affect important government information, digital infrastructure or national security.

The Agency shall spread information about cyber threats and weaknesses in computer systems.

It has been given the mandate to identify which systems and data are most important to the country and make sure they are well protected.

Another part of its job will be to come up with clear rules and standards for cyber security.

It will also check to make sure individuals, companies and institutions are following these rules.

According to the Act, the Agency will also give licenses to those who want to provide cyber security services and will monitor how those service providers operate.

It will support research and development in cyber security and run education and awareness campaigns to help people understand how to stay safe online.

The Agency will carry out security checks on critical information and computer systems to make sure they are safe from cyber threats.

It will also test and approve cyber security products and services to make sure they meet national standards.

As part of its wider responsibilities, the Agency will come up with a national cyber security response plan, which will guide the country on how to respond to any serious cyber threat or attack.

It will be allowed to carry out digital forensics, which means investigating crimes that happen online or through digital devices.

The law also allows the Agency to work closely with both local and international institutions to improve Zambia’s cyber security.

It will also be responsible for giving advice to the President on issues that have to do with online safety and digital protection.

To lead the Agency, the President will appoint a Director General who will be in charge of managing the Agency’s day to day work.

The President will also appoint a Deputy Director General as well as Directors and Deputy Directors to help run the Agency effectively.

Other officers who are below the level of Deputy Director will be appointed by the Director General, based on recommendations from the Staff Board.

These officers will help in carrying out the work of the Agency as stated in the Act.

CLARIFICATION ON MEDIA REPORTS REGARDING 5,000MW  PROPOSAL

CLARIFICATION ON MEDIA REPORTS REGARDING 5,000MW  PROPOSAL

The Ministry of Energy wishes to clarify recent media reports suggesting that the Government has concluded a deal to develop 5,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity following the Minister of Energy’s recent engagements in London.

This clarification follows a press statement issued by the Zambian Mission in London, which has unfortunately been misinterpreted by some sections of the media as confirming a signed deal.

The Ministry would like to emphasize that the 5,000MW figure mentioned in the reports stems from a verbal proposal made by Echo Eight, a UK-based energy company, during a meeting held in London. This was an informal expression of interest and does not constitute a deal, agreement, or commitment by the Government of Zambia.

The Ministry urges members of the media and the public to verify information through official channels.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FTJ, YOUR LEGACY ENDURES- Dr Nevers Mumba

Dr Nevers Sekwila Mumba writes…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FTJ, YOUR LEGACY ENDURES.

Today, we remember a giant of a man, Dr. Frederick Chiluba, on his birthday. His unwavering courage and conviction continue to inspire us. Dr. Chiluba fearlessly championed the rights of workers and empowered Zambians through entrepreneurship, leaving an indelible mark on our nation’s history.

As a master orator, he amplified the voices of the voiceless, and his leadership was marked by humility and a deep commitment to the people. His contributions to conflict resolution in the sub-region and efforts towards Zambia’s economic relief, including the HIPC completion point, are a testament to his vision for a better Zambia.

Dr. Chiluba’s legacy extends far beyond his accomplishments, though. He was a man of faith, and his declaration of Zambia as a Christian Nation remains a defining aspect of our national identity. His faith was not just a public declaration, but a guiding principle that shaped his leadership and decisions.

Despite his many achievements however Dr. Chiluba left behind a mixed multitude of Zambians regarding their  opinions of him and his Presidency. Despite having a large number of Zambians who loved and believed in him, most Zambians with positive sentiments about our second republican President have had their voices  drowned out by those who choose to treat his legacy with disdain. Yet, I believe that the time that his name will be restored and for his legacy to get a fair review is fast approaching. A new wave of leaders and citizens who understand the value of his vision, his courage, and his commitment to the people is stating to emerge and speak more fairly about the achievements of this great Son of Zambia.

Recently, I came across a video of one of his dear sons, Darlington Chiluba, that went viral on social media, sparking a lot of interest and debate regarding and around President Frederick Chiluba and his legacy. The video filled me with such great pride, as I realised that through the Darlingtons of this world, President Chiluba’s wisdom and his humility is still eloquently speaking to us and try as they may, the nay sayers will not ever be able to extinguish the light that President FTJ carried.

Yes, we dare not forget what a man we had among us. His legacy lives on, and it’s up to us to ensure that his impact is celebrated and built upon for generations to come.

Rest in peace, Mr. President. Your legacy endures.

WhatsApp Group Closure Sparks Concern: Business Oracle Disbands Amidst New Cyber Laws

By Maria Phiri freelance journalist

In a surprising move, Diego Casilli, a close associate of President Hakainde Hichilema, has dissolved the prominent WhatsApp group known as Business Oracle. This group, which boasted an impressive membership of influential business leaders, private sector investors, cabinet ministers, and ambassadors, had been a vital platform for discussion and critique of the government’s economic policies.

Sources close to the group reveal that the decision to disband Business Oracle stems from the recently enacted Cybersecurity Law, signed into effect by President Hichilema on April 8th. This law has raised concerns among business leaders and critics, who fear it may stifle free speech and limit avenues for constructive criticism.

The Business Oracle group had been vocal about the government’s economic strategies, consistently expressing concerns that the current approach was not yielding the desired results. Members had been urging the government to reconsider its policies and adopt more effective measures to drive economic recovery.

The dissolution of Business Oracle has sparked concerns about the government’s commitment to open dialogue and transparency. As Zambia navigates its economic challenges, the absence of this platform may further exacerbate tensions between the government and the business community.

Key Points about the Business Oracle group:

Business Oracle’s Significance: The group provided a crucial platform for dialogue between the government and the business community.

Concerns Over Cybersecurity Law: The new law has raised fears about potential restrictions on free speech and criticism.

Economic Recovery: The Business Oracle group had been critical of the government’s economic policies, citing concerns about the country’s trajectory.

The closure of Business Oracle has left many wondering about the future of open discussion and critique in Zambia’s economic landscape.

ALLIANCE FOR COMMUNITY ACTION OPPOSES PROPOSED ELECTORAL FAST TRACK COURT CITING SUSTAINABILITY CONCERNS

ALLIANCE FOR COMMUNITY ACTION OPPOSES PROPOSED ELECTORAL FAST TRACK COURT CITING SUSTAINABILITY CONCERNS

THE Alliance for Community Action has opposed a proposal by a consortium of Civil Society Organisations to establish an Electoral Fast Track Court aimed at expediting the resolution of election disputes, describing the move as unsustainable.

In an interview with Phoenix News, organisation Programmes Manager Jimmy Maliseni argues that the real issue lies in ensuring judicial independence, rather than introducing specialised courts.

Mr. Maliseni has emphasised that existing electoral dispute laws are adequate, and efforts should instead focus on strengthening constitutional safeguards to protect the judiciary from alleged executive interference.

However, Governance, Elections, Advocacy, Research Services Initiative Zambia Chairperson Lackson Lungu, has defended the call, stating that current constitutional provisions, particularly articles 103(3) and 73, lack clarity on timelines for resolving election petitions.

Mr. Lungu, a member of the proposing consortium, believes an electoral fast track court would help bring timely justice and enhance public confidence in the electoral process.

TAXPAYER PLEADS GUILTY, IMMEDIATELY PAYS OVER K3.3M TO ZRA FOR TAX EVASION

The Zambia Revenue Authority in its desire to crack down on tax evasion in the country instituted criminal proceedings against Kupros Mining Limited of Kitwe on charges of providing false statements and returns contrary to the Value Added Tax Act.

The facts of the case are that on dates unknown but between 1st August 2020 and 31st September 2023 in Kitwe, jointly and whilst acting together with others unknown, in purported compliance with the law did provide information to ZRA claiming to show that Kupros Mining Limited was supplied with taxable supplies namely ores and materials on various tax invoice numbers by Wise Focus Mining Limited and Zamgem International Limited for the period August 2020 to September, 2023 which was false in material particular.

FDD CALLS FOR ENHANCED WOMEN AND YOUTH PARTICIPATION IN 2026 GENERAL ELECTIONS

FDD CALLS FOR ENHANCED WOMEN AND YOUTH PARTICIPATION IN 2026 GENERAL ELECTIONS

THE Forum for Democracy and Development has called for increased participation of women and youths in next year’s general elections.

FDD International Relations Chairperson, Anthony Chibuye says women and young people must take centre stage in the 2026 elections by vying for positions such as Members of Parliament and councillors.

Mr. Chibuye said that despite the enthusiasm, many women and youth are often discouraged from active political participation due to various challenges, including lack of financial support, political harassment, and electoral fraud, mostly perpetrated by male opponents through voter bribery.

He, however, urged them not to be intimidated but to rise and challenge the political status quo that has sidelined them for years.

Mr. Chibuye also echoed sentiments from the ruling party, emphasising that meaningful participation of women and youth in politics can only be achieved through constitutional reforms.

KCM CALLS FOR FAIR-MINDED DISCOURSE

KCM CALLS FOR FAIR-MINDED DISCOURSE

Lusaka, (30th April, 2025) -Konkola Copper Mines -KCM- says prudent investigation is key especially when the mine has demonstrated commendable openness to visitations and independent research.

John Kunda, the Konkola Copper Mines Chief Corporate Affairs Officer says encouraging openness to visitations and independent research is a rare and laudable quality for a private company to expose its operations and investments in such an altruistic fashion.

Dr. Kunda says it is important to separate fact from fiction about KCM operations in order to advance robust and meaningful discourse by focusing on verifiable data because numbers do not lie.

He says the factual account of the current status at the mine is that Vedanta’s strategy is systematic by aiming to fix the asset, grow the asset and sustain the asset and that this year, 2025, Vedanta committed $330 million toward asset revitalization of which $50 million was injected in March, $74 million is scheduled for July, and $206 million is targeted for December.

Dr. Kunda says mining development is inherently long-term, requiring consistent, patient investment and that it does not accommodate miracle-driven nor overnight transformations making it unrealistic to expect exponential growth within six months, particularly given the deteriorated state in which the assets were inherited.

He says Zambia’s mining engineers, many of whom have direct experience at KCM can attest to this reality facing the mine today.

Dr. Kunda says going forward, it is essential that conversations about KCM are grounded in fact and objectivity because scientists, researchers, and public commentators have a professional and ethical obligation to investigate thoroughly, verify claims, and present balanced analyses.

This is because mining development is complex and requires realism, consistency, and fair-minded discourse to safeguard Zambia’s national interests.

MOTHER’S ATTEMPT TO BLOCK DAUGHTERS ARREST LANDS HER BEHIND BARS WITH 4 OTHER DEFENDANTS

MOTHER’S ATTEMPT TO BLOCK DAUGHTERS ARREST LANDS HER BEHIND BARS WITH 4 OTHER DEFENDANTS

THE order and serene environment at Matero Local Court was disrupted yesterday as proceedings were abruptly halted following a dramatic intervention by a 58-year-old woman protesting the potential arrest of her daughter.

“Arrest me instead of my child,” Getrude Kangwa exclaimed, turning her plea into a Soweto Market traders’ songs to entice a client into buying her goods, until the court proceeding was stopped.

Fortunately or unfortunately, the Court, like the genie in Aladdin, granted the woman’s request of being apprehended, but she is now behind bars with her daughter and three other relatives.

This is in a case where her daughter, 29 year old Mulenga Kabwe, with her two cousins, Carol Kabwe aged 25, Jaqueline Kabwe, 26, and the two women’s mother, Beatrice Kabwe, 63, were arraigned before the court for being a cast in an amateur video which they used to insult and defame a family member.

Beatrice, and her three dependants’s action, allegedly targeted, Mary Kabwe, who happens to be the trio’s cousin, claiming that she was responsible for the continuous death of family members.

It was revealed in Matero Local Court that the four defendants, all from Chaisa compound posted a video on social media of themselves confronting an alleged “satanist” in their family, imploring this individual to cease their gruesome activities and devouring family members.

During the trial, the three young siblings defended their actions, stating that their motive for creating and circulating the video was to attract the attention of witch-doctors, pastors and even the President divine intervention and assistance in resolving their matter.

“The video did not contain any specific names or targeted accusations. Our intention was solely to persuade the supposed “guilty person” into coming forward and admitting their involvement in the mysterious deaths within the family,” asserted Jacqueline.

“Our only goal was to gain attention from social media users and potentially pastors, witch doctors and even the President so that we could receive the help we so desperately needed,” Carol said.

“Our parents are already gone and only three are left. We are afraid that they might be next which is why we decided to make the video, hoping that someone would listen to our pleas and help us find a solution to this horrific ordeal,” Mulenga added.

But Beatrice, the guardian of the three siblings passionately disassociated herself from their behavior, emphasising her role as their caregiver and the pillar of strength that advocated for unity.

“All I ever wanted was to unite my family and put an end to these baseless allegations. I have raised all of them including Mary (plaintiff) and her sibling, and my heart aches to see them at each other’s throats,” she said.

Despite Beatrice’s denial of involvement, the evidence in the video presented in the courtroom revealed otherwise.

The footage played in the presence of the judge and the parties involved, clearly showcased the three sisters engaging in a language that not only incited violence but also included derogatory statements full of unprintables towards Mary.

Magistrate Harriet Mulenga who presided over the hearing, wasted no time in formally charging the four women with contempt of court, citing the cyber security law of 2025.

Upon hearing the potential of Mulenga’s arrest, Getrude who is Mulenga’s biological mother, stepped outside for a while  and returned after a minute, all charged leaving even the birds around shocked that they flew away..

“Nkakeni ukuchila mukakilemo umwana wandi, Mary teti aliile palifwe (arrest me instead of my child because Mary can’t be rich on us,” Getrude exclaimed.

But in a turn of events, Getrude’s desperate actions resulted in her own arrest as the court was not moved by her emotional outburst, and became one of the clients to spend some nights at Matero Police Station.

“Honestly, just to come and disturb the whole court proceeding like a mad person, I have never seen such kind of behavior in court, you can all go outside, we are done. We are speechless as a court, we can’t proceed until we discipline these people,” Magistrate Mulenga expressed.

“I don’t think we are ready to proceed, we are sorry but we will continue tomorrow morning, I am really in shock,” she added.

The five women were escorted by police officers to the Matero Police Station following the adjournment. The case is expected to resume today.

TONSE ALLIANCE IS COLLAPSING UNDER ITS OWN WEIGHT

TONSE ALLIANCE IS COLLAPSING UNDER ITS OWN WEIGHT

By Dingindaba Jonah Buyoya

The Tonse Alliance, once seen as a potent opposition force capable of challenging the ruling party in the 2026 general elections, is now in what you can honestly describe as a freefall. What began as isolated statements of discontent has evolved into a full-blown leadership crisis, and you can see the open defiance, conflicting declarations, and an alarming absence of discipline within its ranks.

Zambia desperately needs a formidable opposition to ensure a healthy democracy, and right now, the opposition’s disarray is alarming. The United Party for National Development (UPND) is already wielding significant power, and if they continue to grow stronger, it should be because they have earned the trust and support of the citizens, not because the opposition is collapsing under its own weight.

A fragmented opposition only consolidates power in the hands of the ruling party, and you will agree that this in no uncertain terms undermines the very essence of democratic checks and balances. It’s mind-boggling that, at a time when the nation needs a united front to offer meaningful alternatives and hold the government accountable, the opposition is busy self-destructing. This failure to come together and function effectively only weakens the democratic process and leaves the citizens with fewer choices.

In the last seven days, we have been treated to a drama series, as if they are paid actors in The Fall of the House of Usher. A stinging internal notice by PeP President and Tonse Alliance Spokesperson Sean Tembo on April 23, in which he accused unnamed senior Patriotic Front (PF) leaders of undermining the alliance. This was a direct shot at the PF, the alliance’s anchor party, and sent shockwaves through Tonse’s fragile structure.

Tembo’s statement drew a public rebuke from none other than Edgar Lungu himself. Lungu is Chairman of the Tonse Alliance and leads a version of the PF. In a lengthy statement issued a few days later, the PF President and Tonse Alliance Chairperson called for a ceasefire. He reaffirmed the centrality of PF within the alliance and appointed Given Lubinda to act on his behalf. The tone was firm, conciliatory, and aimed at reasserting control.

But it didn’t work.

Just days after Lungu’s appeal, Sean Tembo issued yet another internal memo, this time warning of a clandestine attempt to rewrite the Tonse Alliance Constitution without proper authority. Tembo accused certain members of bringing “anarchy” into the alliance and invoked Lungu’s name, again, as justification for his position. The memo, if you’ve seen it, is clearly revealing deeper cracks. There’s either an imaginary or real internal turf war over legitimacy and control, with Lungu’s name being used by all sides to justify contradictory agendas.

Then came today’s intervention from Tonse Alliance Vice Chairperson, Professor Daniel Pule. In a move that effectively nullified Tembo’s actions, Pule clarified that no changes to the constitution are permitted until Lungu returns to Zambia; No disciplinary actions or suspensions are valid without Lungu’s express input;
There should be only one official WhatsApp group for Alliance leadership communication.

This seemingly minor note about WhatsApp groups is, in fact, the most telling. When top political leaders are being reminded not to form splinter chat groups, it is clear that the alliance has lost not just discipline, but even the pretense of coordination.

All this chaos stems from one issue: Edgar Lungu’s absence. As Chairman, Lungu’s leadership is seen as essential to the alliance’s stability. But his physical and operational absence has created a leadership vacuum no one can fill. Everyone now claims to be acting on his behalf, and in doing so, they are pulling the alliance in opposite directions.

Tembo insists on enforcement and expulsions. Pule calls for unity and nullification of suspensions. Both claim to be acting under Lungu’s guidance. The result? A political project eating itself from within.

Tonse Alliance is collapsing right before our eyes. The alliance no longer speaks with one voice. It does not follow a single leader. It is not governed by one constitution. It cannot even agree on who belongs on its WhatsApp group.

With less than 16 months to go before the general elections, the opposition’s most formidable coalition has become its own worst enemy. If this is the leadership the opposition is offering Zambia, voters may be justified in asking whether the alternative is any better than the status quo.

KALABA CALLS OUT GOVERNMENT ON ITS PLANS TO ENGANGE UK-BASED ‘SOLE TRADER’ TO PRODUCE 5000 MEGAWATTS

KALABA CALLS OUT GOVERNMENT ON ITS PLANS TO ENGANGE UK-BASED ‘SOLE TRADER’ TO PRODUCE 5000 MEGAWATTS

The UPND administration is banking its hopes on a newly registered and little-known United Kingdom based “sole trader” called Echo Eight Consulting Limited to produce 5000 megawatts of clean energy aimed at ending the debilitating challenge of loadshedding currently ravaging the country, Citizens First President Harry Kalaba, has charged.

According to Mr. Kalaba, Echo Eight which was incorporated in the United Kingdom under Company Number 14556474 on 23rd December, 2022, has a share capital of GBP100, which is (K3,744) equivalent as its registered capital.

Speaking to KBN TV in an exclusive interview, Mr. Kalaba wondered how the Zambian Government with all the resources at its disposal, could not carry out due diligence for them to land at Echo Eight with Mr. David Green as a sole director.

According to news reports, Energy Minister, Makozo Chikote, said he had invited UK-based Echo Eight investments limited to establish clean energy operations in Zambia, as part of the efforts to end load-shedding and achieve energy security by December 2025.

Mr. Chikote is quoted to have welcomed Echo Eight’s proposal to deploy up to 5,000 megawatts of renewable energy within six months of approvals and has stressed the urgent need for investors capable of delivering timely results toward Zambia’s long-term energy goal to generate 9,000 megawatts and become a regional power hub through new inter-connector projects.

However, President Kalala has rubbished Mr. Chikote’s announcement as cheap lies stressing that a sole trader like Echo Eight which has never published any audited accounts since its inception, lacks the requisite capacity and experience to handle such a huge and capital-intensive project within the given timeframe.

President Kalaba says, going by the rule of thumb, setting up of a 1-megawatt generation capacity requires circa USD1 million and if we expect Echo Eight to produce 5000 megawatts, the GBP100 capital worth little known UK firm, will have to mobilise USD5 Billion.

“The question Mr. Chikote should be answering is which financier would invest USD 5 billion in a company that has never published audited accounts since its inception in 2022.” Mr.Kalaba said.

He cautioned citizens to be alert and avoid a repeat of the Lusaka/Ndola duo carriage way scandal where local money from NAPSA is being used to finance the project while another foreign entity, is collecting toll fees to the detriment of the Zambian treasury.

UPND Matero aspiring candidate unveils anti Miles Sampa campaign, pledges real change

UPND Matero aspiring candidate unveils anti Miles campaign, pledges real change

UPND aspiring Member of Parliament for Matero Constituency Evans Mukobela popularly known as Kapokola who has unleashed an anti- Miles Sampa campaign has pledged real change for the people of Matero in 2026.

Mukobela promised the constituents more peace, unity and progress under the leadership of President Hichilema.

Addressing a crowd in Muchinga Ward 28, Mukobela noted some of the UPND’s key achievements such as the introduction of free education, recruitment of more teachers, increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF), improved youth job opportunities and the return of peace and order in Zambia’s political space.

“The days of fear and violence are gone. President Hichilema has restored dignity and brought real development. Matero must now rally behind him for a greater victory in 2026,” he said.

Mukobela also served food to hundreds who gathered for the meeting and gave out UPND-branded chitenges and caps to strengthen the party’s presence.

He also pointed to youth empowerment programmes like the ZNS Youth Empowerment Scheme as a tool to unlock opportunities for young people in Matero.

He criticised current leaders in the area for neglecting development and allowing projects such as the Muchinga Market to deteriorate.

“Since 2021, we have been led by people more focused on political battles than improving lives. That must change,” he said.

Mukobela was joined by local party leaders, including Constituency IPS Elvis Mbapera and Ward Chairman Chrispin Tembo who are helping build strong grassroots support for UPND in the area.

“I’m not an outsider, I live among you and I know your struggles. Let’s work together to build a better Matero and support the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema,” Mukobela said.

“A HYPOCRITICAL STANCE: PF’s SELECTIVE MEMORY ON CYBER LAW”

“A HYPOCRITICAL STANCE: PF’s SELECTIVE MEMORY ON CYBER LAW”

By Timmy

The Patriotic Front’s (PF) recent reaction to the UPND government’s Cyber Law is a classic case of historical amnesia. It’s ironic that they’re now speaking out against a law they themselves engineered and enacted during their tenure.

Who can forget the 2021 elections, when PF shut down the internet, restricting citizens’ access to information? The very same party now feigning concern about online freedoms.

The truth is, PF’s actions have consistently demonstrated their disregard for democratic values and citizens’ rights. It’s rich that they’re lecturing the UPND government on cyber laws, given their own track record.

The UPND government’s Cyber Law aims to regulate online activities, protect citizens from cyber threats, and promote digital security. It’s a necessary step in today’s digital age.

PF’s hypocrisy is staggering. They should focus on their own failures rather than criticizing others. The people have spoken, and UPND’s leadership has been endorsed.

Let’s move forward with building a safer, more secure digital landscape for all Zambians.

“A LESSON IN OPPORTUNISM: EXPOSING THE TRUE MOTIVES BEHIND KBF’S REGRET”

“A LESSON IN OPPORTUNISM: EXPOSING THE TRUE MOTIVES BEHIND KBF’S REGRET”

By Timmy

KBF’s recent admission of regret over supporting President Hakandinde Hichichema’s 2021 presidential bid raises more questions than answers. It’s clear that his support was not driven by a genuine desire to see Hichilema lead Zambia, but rather by self-interest.

Let’s be honest, KBF’s support for Hichilema was a calculated move, driven by the fact that ECL’s PF didn’t offer him what he was looking for. He found solace in UPND, but it’s evident that his expectations weren’t met. His regret is a testament to his lack of genuine commitment to the cause.

We, the people who voted for Hichilema, did so based on our collective wisdom that he was the better candidate. And we stand by that decision. If Hichilema had offered you a job, would you be singing a different tune? It’s clear that your support was conditional, and your regret is a reflection of your own opportunism.

In a democracy, we respect the will of the people. And the people chose Hichilema in 2021. We will do the same in 2026 if he continues to serve the nation with dedication and vision. Your regret is unfortunate, but it won’t change the fact that Hichilema remains a popular leader.

Let’s focus on building a better Zambia, rather than dwelling on individual regrets.

M’MEMBE URGES LEADERS TO EMBRACE INTEGRITY AND TRUTH

…says while those who deceive, exploit, and lie may hold power temporarily, they would ultimately face justice

Lusaka… Wednesday April 30, 2025 – Dr. Fred M’membe has called on citizens to rise with hope and courage as they work together toward building a just and equal Zambia.

He stated that the country’s ongoing struggle was not only political in nature but also moral.

Referring to Scripture, he cited Revelation 21:8, which warns that “all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire.”

Dr. M’membe interpreted this not only as a warning but also as a directive for leaders to act with honesty and integrity.

“I was raised on love, not survival,” says Given Lubinda’s daughter!

Namatama Lubinda, daughter of PF vice president Given Lubinda, says she was raised by a present father and didn’t depend on men for her needs like doing her hair and nails.

“I was raised on love, not on survival,” she said, emphasizing the role her father played in shaping her values.

She described her father as a present and supportive parent who, despite providing for her needs, always encouraged independence and self-sufficiency.

“My father would always say, ‘If you want something, you must get it yourself,’” she recalled.

Namatama, who holds a degree in mental health and clinical psychiatry, revealed she chose an entrepreneurial spirit saying she ran businesses from a young age, including selling lollipops.

“Before a man marries you, every single kwacha that he spends on you is an act of kindness, not an obligation,” she said.

Namatama’s remarks come after  she received criticism after publicly stating that it is not a man’s
responsibility to pay for his girlfriend’s personal expenses, such as hair, nails, and makeup.

The comment sparked backlash with some women labeling her a “pick me”a term used to describe women perceived as seeking male validation by criticizing other women.

“HICHILEMA’S INFRASTRUCTURE PUSH PAYS Off: NDOLA-SAKANIA-MUFULIRA ROAD REHABILITATION GAINS MOMENTUM”

BY TIMMY

The UPND government, led by President Hakainde Hichilema, continues to deliver on its promises of infrastructure development. The rehabilitation works on the Ndola-Sakania-Mufulira Road have gained significant momentum, with 8.6 kilometers out of 17 kilometers already paved to bituminous standard.

This impressive progress is a testament to the government’s commitment to improving Zambia’s infrastructure. The Road Development Agency’s (RDA) efforts, under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Financing Model, have borne fruit. The concession agreement with Jaswin Ports Limited has brought much-needed investment to the region.

President Hichilema’s vision for a better Zambia is becoming a reality, one road at a time. The people of Ndola, Sakania, and Mufulira will greatly benefit from this upgraded road network, which will boost economic activity and improve living standards.

Kitwe… Tuesday April 29, 2025 – Copperbelt Province Socialist Party (SP) Chairperson Brian Chirambo has issued a rallying call to opposition political parties, civil society organizations (CSOs), churches, and other key stakeholders to replicate national-level unity efforts at all grassroots structures, warning that the stakes are too high to allow individual ambitions to derail the momentum for change.

In a statement, Chirambo said the time for rhetorical solidarity is over, urging provincial, district, constituency, ward, and branch-level leadership to translate national opposition collaborations into tangible grassroots mobilization.

“As Socialist Party on the Copperbelt, we have begun these engagements with leaders of opposition political parties and CSOs at provincial level to actualize the unity that the people of Zambia have been calling for,” said Dr. Chirambo.

“Our people from all walks of life… have welcomed the idea of working together to remove the oppressive and failed government of the UPND in 2026.”

The call comes amid growing sentiment within the opposition that the current administration has failed to meet the basic needs of citizens, with Dr. Chirambo citing chronic unemployment, soaring poverty levels, drug shortages in health facilities, and persistent load shedding as clear indicators of failure.

“We must not betray the young mine worker whose salary can’t make ends meet, or the mother who cannot afford three meals a day,” Dr. Chirambo charged.

“These Zambians are counting on us to put our differences aside and unite.”

He further called on national opposition leaders to remain focused on the “bigger picture,” warning against selfish interests that could fracture a growing hope for an alternative government in 2026.

“There is hope among our people,” he said.

“This hope has made it easier for leaders of various political parties and civil organizations to engage and give solidarity to national leaders. We must match that pace at every level.”

Dr. Chirambo extended an open invitation to political and civil society groups across the Copperbelt who have not yet joined the ongoing provincial engagements to come forward and participate in a collective national rescue effort.

“When we are united, Zambia and Zambians will win,” he declared.

NGOCC DEMANDS JUSTICE FOR 10-MONTH-OLD STAMPEDE VICTIM

NGOCC DEMANDS JUSTICE FOR 10-MONTH-OLD STAMPEDE VICTIM

The Non-governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has noted with sadness that a 10-month-old baby died in Livingstone in a stampede. We have also learnt that this incident was caused by members of the public jostling for money, which was allegedly tossed to the crowd by Livingstone Mayor Ms. Constance Muleabai.

First and foremost, we wish to convey our sincere condolences to the family of the 10-month-old baby.

We would like to also take this opportunity to remind our leaders that leadership is a call to service with humility and respect for the citizenry, especially for the vulnerable. Our leaders are dutybound to use existing governance structures to ensure resources are distributed fairly and equally among citizens and not through unconventional means.

This act is testament to the prevailing high poverty levels in the country and the challenges that families are facing at personal and household levels. However, leaders should not take advantage of the citizenry’s vulnerabilities and treat them in dehumanizing ways such as the Livingstone incident. This is not only irresponsible but reflects a lack of respect for human dignity. What compounds this situation is that a life has been lost in circumstances that could have been avoided.

In this regard, we urge the relevant authorities and the Zambia Police in particular, to take keen interest in this matter and ensure justice prevails for the 10-month-old baby. We also demand that all people involved in this very sad incident are sanctioned.
